Max Hollyfield

"Were you looking at my sister?"

0 · 208 views · located in Chippewa and Blink Chippewa

a character in “Blink World”, as played by blackrider

Description

Max Hollyfield

Age: 17
Gender: Male
Role in community: Highschool Senior, Pot Dealer
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Hazel
Skin Tone: Caucasian
Height: 5'11”
Weight: 170
Appearance: Your typical “trying to hard to look angry” type highschooler, from his constant grumpy face to the torn up jeans and band shirts (and cant forget the signature wallet chain).

Items: The only two worldly possessions worth a damn to Max are his old beat up Honda Rebel motorcycle and his genuine leather jacket.

Personality: If you had to describe Max in one word it would be abrasive, if you got to use a second word it would probably be blunt. Having grown up while bouncing from home to home in the grade A United States foster care system Max quickly learned a lot about himself.

1. He hated people. Sure there were some good ones, but most were simply fake cons trying to lure you in and take advantage of you. The bastards!
2. The only person who will stand up for you is yourself.
3. Family first.

Relationship to Ellie and Seamus: They are merely familiar faces.

History:
Losing his mother at the tender age of four minutes old the only real family Max ever knew was his younger sister Jane. Their mother had died giving birth to both of them in a particularly complicated delivery, a horrible tragedy that had lead the two of them into the open arms of government programs and volunteer families.

By the sheer grace of God the first thirteen years of his life he was lucky enough to have been placed in a foster home with his sister. Their temporary parents had been a younger hard working middle class couple who couldn't have children themselves.

Overtime Max actually came to think of the Hendersons as his actual parents, and on he and Jane's twelfth birthday the Hendersons had excited news. Max and Jane were going to have a little brother or sister! The quickly assured the two children nothing would change and that they still loved them.

Three months later Max was sobbing incoherently in the back of some social workers car as he was driven away from the place he had known as home and the people he had thought were family. And with each mile he drove further from his twin the more and more he felt truly alone.

It was a whole two years before he was reunited with his sister, a direct result of good luck and the shear annoyance their case worker felt having to file all sorts of paperwork for the hijinks the two got into while separated.

Unfortunately they were then briefly separated for two more years before being united once again under the care of a kind, if somewhat odd, elderly couple in the small town of Chippewa. He and his sister have lived in the small town for the past six months and have already begun to build up a reputation as “rotten apples”.

So begins...

Max's eyes sprung open only to be greeted with the site of a darkened room, sunlight just barely beginning to trickle into his bedroom window as he sat upright in his bed. Turning to groggily look at his nightstand he tried focusing on the cheap little alarm clock he relied on each day. Like every morning Max's freaky internal alarm clock had woken him up ten minutes before his actual alarm had gone off. At least it allowed him to turn it off before the thing began screeching at him.

Having always been a morning person Max got up without much effort and after slipping on a dirty torn up pair of jeans and the closest band shirt within reach he was ready to start his day. Before leaving his room to go downstairs Max followed his morning routine of making his way over to the left side of his room where a weight bench sat, the wall behind it was adorned in all sorts of band postsers.

Raising his muscular right arm Max pounded a particularly disturbing looking “Slayer”poster several times, the loud banging noise sounding throughout the house as the wall itself slightly shook. Grinning as he gave the wall a few more solid whacks Max could only think of his sister whose bed was directly on the other side. He made it a point to always have his alarm set atleast a half hour earlier then his sisters, for obvious reasons.

After making sure his sister was up Max made his way out of his room, hopping down the hallway on one foot while the other comically struggled to find its way inside a tan steel toed work boot. As he descended the stairs to the downstairs living room Max could already smell fresh bacon lingering in the air, his foster parents no doubt having woken up early to make them a fresh breakfast.

“It's the most important meal of the day, you know?” The elderly Gladys chimed in as if on mental cue as Max made his way into the well kept kitchen. Unfortunatley for the attention craving Gladys Max was only able to make brief small talk before the temptation of the banquet before him pulled his attention away. Wasting no more time he took a seat and began piling all sorts of delicious breakfast food on his plate, he was halfway through cleaning his plate when he saw the look Gladys was giving him-her frail elderly frame watching him with concern and a hint of disappointment.

Stopping and clearing his throat for a moment Max blushed momentarily as he did something he was doing more and more often for his elderly care takers. With a sigh he began “Our father who art in heaven...”

Jane was sleeping peacefully in her room, until her brother pounded on the wall, waking her out of a dead sleep. A quiet groan escaped her lips as she pulled her pillows over her head, hoping to ignore Max and simply go back to sleep, but when he hit the wall a few more times, she knew it was useless. Reluctantly, she climbed out of bed uttering curses at her brother under her breath. As she walked across her room, she ran a hand through her hair as she rummaged through one of the boxes still pilled in her room. Even though she'd been here for six months, she still wouldn't let herself believe that this would last, kept her things boxed up. Her room was bare of anything a normal teenager might have, there were no posters or pictures just blank walls.

After a few moments, Jane found what she was looking for, her outfit for today. She then walked into the bathroom to take a shower, it normally took her a good thirty to forty-five minutes to shower and dry her hair. She brushed out her hair, pulling it back into a high ponytail and quickly braided it before finally walking out of the bathroom. Her stomach growled quietly as the smell of bacon hit her and she could hear Gladys and Max talking down stairs. She pulled her skirt down a little, not wanting the old lady to have a stroke or anything. She was wearing a rather short, frayed jean skirt that stopped just shy of midway down her thigh, as well as a button up shirt with the top few buttons undone showing off an ample amount of cleavage.

"Good morning," Jane said as walked down stairs, seeing her brother at the table, praying over his half eaten plate of food. It took all she had not to laugh at the sight, she found it funny how hard her brother tried to placate these new foster parents. She wasn't going out of her way to anger them, but she wasn't going out of her way to please them either. The smell of the bacon lured Jane across the kitchen, and she picked up a piece, eating it slowly as she leaned against the counter.

After eating a couple pieces of bacon, Jane walked over and grabbed her backpack, glancing back over her shoulder at Max. "Are you about ready?" She asked her brother, seeing as they usually walked to school together, or at the very least left the house together, not necessarily going straight to school.

“About ready?” Max asked in between rather noisy bites of toast. “I've been waiting on you sis. But what else is new, eh?” He finished with a mischievous grin as he stood up from his seat, downing his glass of orange juice and grabbing his back pack in one fluid motion. “Later Glad's” Max hollered over his shoulder as he and his sister headed towards the door.

“And where do you think your going?” A crotchety old voice came from the living room followed by the annoying drawn out 'thump...thump...thump' of a walker. After a few seconds that felt like hours an elderly man appeared in the hallway, his shriveled frame clutching at the walker in sheer defiance of gravity.

Max's eyebrows narrowed in suspicion at the site of the elderly gentleman he knew to be Gladys's husband, Milton Covelli. Survivor of multiple wars and apparently whatever killed the dinosaur Milton Covelli was still a somewhat intimidating figure. Max was sure Milton was about to give an ultimatum or throw a personal insult his way.

“Can't forget your lunch money.” Milton said with a toothless grin and a wink as he slipped both Max and Jane a crisp twenty dollar bill.

“Uhm. Thanks, Milt?” Max asked more then stated, giving an awkward glance to his sister who responded with her own confused look. Max could almost hear her saying “whats the catch?”. He responded with his own look of 'Its a free forty dollars.'.

“We really should be going though, you know, the importance of school and all.” Max said while squeezing his way awkwardly past Milton, a moment later he and his sister had finally cleared the elderly gauntlet and were on their way to school.

Seamus, bloody nose and all, ran through the school in and around Ellie's homeroom frantically trying to catch up with her and talk before the bell. In his haste, he again forgot to look where he was going (an all too common occurrence today) and suddenly crashed into Jane Hollyfield. This time, however, he recovered his balance in time to avoid tumbling to the ground, and Jane didn't seem too shaken by their collision, as Max had quickly caught her from falling.

Red flaring to his cheeks at his clumsiness, Seamus quickly stammered out, "Um...uh...sorry, Hollywood...and...uh Max. I wasn't looking where I was going, cause I was sorta looking for Ellie. Would you guys happened to have seen her, by any chance?" Hollywood was a nickname that he, Ellie, and Jeffery had been using for Jane since pretty much the first day, as a teacher had accidentally read her name as Hollywood when taking attendance, and when it appeared that Jane didn't mind the name, it had stuck. (Seamus had also suggested giving Max a nickname, since they were twins and all, but quickly reconsidered when he remembered that he was just a band geek, and band geeks that drew attention from guys like Max to themselves were the kind of people you hear about in all those high school stories of wedgies and lunch-money-taking)

For the first time in a long while, the twins actually showed up to school, almost on time. "I wonder what was up with Mr. Covelli this morning," Jane murmured as they walked into the school, shrugging her backpack higher up onto her shoulders as she and her brother walked down the hall together. She learned a long time ago, no one does anything nice without expecting something in return. She bit her bottom lip as she thought the old couple and how nice they had been to her and Max so far, it was just so unfamiliar to her, she still felt there had to be an ulterior motive.

Jane was still on this train of thought when Seamus bumped into her, causing her to nearly fall on her butt if it weren't for her brother's fast reflexes. Though, the surprise did cause her to bite down on her lip a little too hard, drawing a little blood. "Oh, Seamus!" She said in surprise a hand going to her bitten lip, though she wasn't angry, for some reason it was impossible for her to get angry with Seamus. Honestly, at first, she hadn't really liked the nickname they'd given her, feeling it was their way of making fun of her, but gradually it started to grow on her and she realized that it was a term of endearment not one of ostracism, and now she kind of liked it.

"Nope, sorry Seamus, we haven't seen her. Literally just walked in the door." Jane said with a small laugh, running a hand through her hair, giving a small shrug of her shoulders. Realizing her brother had been a little too quiet, she looked over her shoulder at Max, raising a curios eyebrow. She knew her brother could be a tad bit over protective of her, though with everything they'd been through she couldn't really blame him, but some times it could get annoying especially when she considered it unwarranted or unwanted. Plus Max seemed to enjoy getting into fights, she felt like she was just an excuse he used to justify it sometimes.

Jane had made it clear to Max a while ago that Seamus was off limits though, she didn't want her brother torturing the poor guy. She'd seen how her brother could get especially if he was in a bad mood, though it seemed they were few and far between these days and she couldn't help but to think it was because of the Covelli's.

“Who knows? Old man was probably excited to get another check from Uncle Sam or somethi-” Max had been cut off mid sentence as his sister became the victim of a runaway animal. At a second glance it hadn't been a rabid beast at all. No, it had been something far far worse that collided with his only family member.

Seamus Reed.

Having reacted on pure instinct Max's arms shot out, catching his sisters shoulders he helped her steady herself. He then turned his gaze to Seamus, his eyes burning holes in the poor kid. He stood like that for a few moments, fists and jaw clenched as Seamus and Jane talked. To Max's dismay Seamus was quick to apologize and avoid the full throttle beating that had been coming his way, even worse though was the way his sister genuinely accepted the apology. He didn't know what his sister saw in the guy or his band of freaky friends, because all Max saw in the kid was a possible punching bag and a tuba that desperately begged for a memorable prank.

“And watch where you'r goin next time, Else you'll get worse then a bloody nose.” Max added with a grunt, his voice completely devoid of kindness. He made sure to crack his knuckles for added effect.

Forcing a smile, Seamus laughed, "Oh, yeah, the bloody nose. Actually, funny story, this isn't even from this crash. I accidentally ran into Brianna with my tuba not five minutes ago."

Seeing that this topic of conversation would not be the best appeasement for Max, Seamus decided to drop it and ask, "Hey, uh, would you guys be willing to help me find Ellie real quick, before the five minute bell? Now that I think about it, she probably headed to the student council office thingy that's in the library to get ready for the morning announcements. It won't take like, five minutes and we have plenty of time before..."

And, as he was explaining the bountiful amounts of time they had available to him, the five minute bell decided that it's only purpose today was to prove him wrong. With a sigh Seamus said, "Never mind I guess. It's fine if you guys head to class, I'mma see if I can't find her really quick. Stupid girl is taking up all my time to copy my homework off of everybody else."

Max and Jane quickly exchanged glances, that weirdo twin telepathy thing apparently kicking in as the two began laughing at almost the exact same time. It took a moment to regain himself from the laughing fit but when he did he replied to Seamus, his voice dripping with sarcasm "Don't worry Seamus ol buddy." He clapped Seamus, rather roughly, on the shoulder. He acted as if they were old friends or something "We aren't in any rush to get to class. And besides I have some uh...business...waiting in the library."

By "business" he meant the two sophomore's who had texted him on his way in to school, the pair looking to get a hold of a certain illegal green and leafy substance. Max was all to happy to oblige, a quarter ounce size of happiness tucked away in a plastic bag inside the hidden pocket of his leather jacket.

"We'll help you find Ellie. Right sis? I mean, you and Ellie were my main concern today when I came to this fine establishment for eight hours of indoctrination..." He continued to rattle on like a sarcastic ass down as the group headed towards the library. Most of his ramblings would have been humorous were it not for the hidden insults and clear hostility. After a minute or two, and a particularly harsh sideways glance from Jane, and Max begrudgingly yielded.

Shoving his hands into his coat pockets he thought of how much he already desperately wanted a cigarette.

The P.A. sounded off with Ellie's voice, "Good morning Chippewa. Today for lunch is pizza, with green beans to the side. And the lunch staff asked me to inform the school that, no, the green beans are not optional. A healthy student is a happy student. Moving on...Oh my God!" Out the window, looking into the library from the P.A. room, Ellie saw bleeding Zachary appear out of nowhere. Without a second thought she sprinted out towards him.

"What happened!? Oh my God, it was a blink wasn't it. I didn't, oh my God I should have told you. It's all my fault, it's all my fault, it's all my fault!"

Then, just as Ellie reached Zachary, Seamus, Max, and Jane entered the library.
