Introduction

"If there was ever a moment where I considered myself to be a true hero, it was when I was so sure that I was going to die. I was ready and willing to take my fate, even if it meant dying at the hands of our enemy. And since I still stand here and breathe, I will fight for you every step of the way my friends, because now I know what it's like to look fate straight in the eyes... and defy life." -Dannie

You have been born into the Tribe of the Fallen, a group of wolves in a woodland world surrounded by enemy filled mountains. Your rank in the Tribe is your duty for life, whether it be hunting and caring for our young, or fighting the battles that will hopefully be won. I stand here before you hoping you choose wisely as to what you will be doing for your Tribe.

Ranks:

--Alpha... The Alpha is the leader of the pack, they try their best to keep up with the pack. They see each of the pack members as family and make important decisions that reflect the growth and welfare of the pack. The Alpha creates the rules for the pack and makes sure they are properly enforced. During pack meetings, most issues will be discussed with the pack as a whole. The final decision will be made by the Alpha after all opinions are heard by the pack members. The Alphas have the final say so in everything, yet act only for the good of the pack.

--Beta... The Beta wolf is the second ranking individual within the dominance hierarchy. They show commitment and loyalty to the pack, also acting as a discipliner to reinforce the Alpha's decisions. The Betas stand in as Alpha when the Alphas are not present. They answer to no one but their Alphas, but are expected, as with all members, to show respect to every wolf. They also assist the Alphas with any conflicts within the pack and enforce the rules, keeping peace within the clearing. Betas may also call hunts, deciding when and where to hunt, along with the Hunters. In pack meetings, the Betas' answers and suggestions are the second most important, being trusted advisers to the Alpha, only thinking for the good of the pack as a whole. There may only be a male and female Beta.

--Delta... The Delta wolf is a wolf in training for Beta position. They are third in rank to Alpha and Beta. Deltas usually become the next Beta after training is complete but one can remain Delta without moving to Beta position. When this is the case, if ever the current Beta is removed from their rank, steps down, changes rank, or leaves the pack, the Delta may take the place as the new Beta at the Alpha's request. There may only be a male and female Delta.

--Sentries... Sentries are to ensure that the pack is safe by patrolling the territory and watching the movements of the surroundings. They are to make sure that no intruders enter the clearing. In doing so, it is a Sentry's responsibility to greet new visitors and learn why they are here and where they come from. Being in that position, it is the Sentry's job to make sure each new visitor that comes into the clearing has good intentions as well. When the Sentry is not present within the clearing or if there is none, the greeting responsibilities go to all Adult Pack members. Sentries also make sure that the Pack Members keep themselves out of trouble, and that no fights break out between visiting wolves (or other pack members), warning them of the rules.

--Hunters... The Hunters are those wolves who are exceptionally skilled at tracking and hunting down prey. The Hunters make sure that the Pack has a full abundance of food. There is only one lead Hunter who is to start hunting groups and choose who the captains of each group are, and will lead a group themselves sometimes.

--Caretakers... A wolf that shows interest and skill in caring for weakened pack mates. They also watch over the older or ill wolves of the Pack. The Caretaker of the Pack ensures when any wolf is wounded, they recover properly not putting to much stress on their wounds. They serve as a support unit, and try to keep the pack in a healthy state. If they feel a wolf is not strong or rested enough to hunt, they are to inform the Alpha, Beta, or Hunter. Caretaking does not mean healing; its means helping to survive, to watch over and make sure one does not further hurt themselves. A Caretaker has to be stern to the wounded. Many wolves will insist they are fine. A good Caretaker needs to know what injuries are serious and what injuries can heal on their own. They need to make sure a wounded wolf, does not over exert themselves. They need to be firm in having the wolf rest. Some are positioned to take care of the young when their mothers are out on duty.

--Scouts... Scouts are responsible for patrolling the territory for any signs of the enemy, especially when a Sentry reports any strange signs.

--Fighters... Those who fight for the pack, either attacking or defending. The lead Fighter can plan an attack, and either split the others into groups or stay as a whole

--Omegas & Pups... The Omega of the pack is lowest ranking wolf. The Omega is usually a young wolf that is very new to pack life and still learning, a wolf that has been lowered in rank due to wrong actions. They explain to the pups what is right and wrong, or safe and dangerous. Pups while low in rank have many social freedoms; their antics are tolerated by most of the members. Reaching 1 year old, pups of the Pack may become Full Adult Members. Must be 1 year to Court/Mate and 2 years to Breed (have a litter).

"Lih-chen. That's how you say it.
Not Lie-ken. I am not a fungi."

Sitting by the entrance was a bulky male. His reddish brown trained on his surroundings, making sure the pack was safe from immediate dangers. It was his job to make sure nothing got past him. They had young to feed and wolves to protect. However, his gaze was not hard and penetrable. It was soft and sweet. How is it that this large strong wolf get ranked as a sentry? The skin beneath his short tinted pelt was gashed with scars unimaginable. He dealt with more than just the annoyance of deceptive foxes and cowardly coyotes. His skin was tough and hard. Perfect for battle since his injuries did nothing more than feel like a bloody scratch. He was not a fighter though, he refused. He was too much of a softy to hurt another wolf. Even if it was an enemy. Second best rank he could be fitted into was a sentry. Originally, Lichen wanted to be a caretaker, but his gifts cursed him. He was too rough for his own good and didn't acquire the gentleness and skill needed to be a caretaker. So there he sat, watching and waiting for something to ambush him. The ginger wolf didn't mind being a sentry, since in a way he was helping his fellow pack mates by keeping them safe on his own accord.

His eyes wandered as the chilled breeze buffeted his fur. He shuttered. The forest was unnaturally silent and that unsettled him. The crinkle of the leaves snapped him to attention. The short, stubby fur on his neck bristled and he slowly assumed the crouching position. Teeth automatically bared at the direction the sound came in. Pressure settled in his ears as blood started to pump faster from his beating heart. He could feel it thudding against his chest. Once he took in the scent, his haunches relaxed and he plopped back down on his hide. It was just the morning patrol. The throaty growl that threatened to come lose was swallowed and he wagged his long curled tail. He didn't bother asking the Beta what went on in the forest of Isiria. He would hear from the scouts soon enough, especially from Salix. Rumors traveled fast in this pack with Salix's informative gossip. Speaking of Salix, he trotted past him with a mischievous look on his face. Lichen snorted as Salix whacked him in the muzzle with his long fluffy tail and he growled at him. "Why so serious?" He asks as he slips through the entrance. "It's my job to be serious." He responds though Salix was already gone.

The night was cold as winter was long, the sharp air crisp with the promise of frost. Only an hour ago had the sun finally sunk down below the barren trees of the forest, the skies stained red like the blood of a fresh kill as the glowing orange orb touched the peeks of the mountains in the distance. A set of paws left tracks in cold mud, stirring up the fall leaf litter underfoot, crushing the moist and decaying grasses that the sudden autumn had killed a few weeks ago. The clouds above covered the moon, threatening to deposit the first snow of the season, the night was going to be cold, long, and dark. Hot breath misted out in a shapeless white billow as the runner's uneven run slowed, coming to stand still on a firm and thick fallen maple tree trunk. Golden eyes peered out into the darkness, seeing everything even in the seemingly pitch black forest. The hunter's ears pressed forward, standing erect, rotating first to the left and then to the right.

His coast was clear, muscles tensing as he bunched, preparing to jump down from the log he had perched himself on to get a better view of his path. There was hesitation though, ears laying back as the mature male wolf calculated the height of the jump, his bad leg wouldn't take the weight of his body from such a height. Using his claws to sturdy his paws he walked a line down the trunk, coming to the top where the branches were once heavy with leaves. Much closer to the ground he stepped off, making sure to brace his back leg before pushing himself into an easy run. At this pace he'd reach his pack within a half hour, having set out with a patrol to check the Northern border at midday. It had been a long day of running on an empty stomach with the cold from the mountains nipping at his heels. He had brought two others with him, though neither were in sight, having gone ahead at a faster pace than the crippled male wolf.

Asher's sensitive nose could still smell them and every once and awhile he'd hear the rustle of the dry undergrowth from in front of him. The dusky brown wolf perked his ears, picking up on the sounds of his pack as they neared their camp. Shouldering through the dense undergrowth the large male wolf trotted into the camp, head lifted with authority as he returned. Asher was in pain, his back right leg burning in white hot pain. The trip had been too far for the aging Beta male, not that he'd ever admit it, all he wanted to do now was lay down and relax with a full belly. But first he had to report his findings to the Alpha, Ghost. Using his nose he focused in on her location and approached slowly, lowering his ears and dropping his body closer to the ground. Stopping in front of her he tilted his head, baring his throat to her in submission as he let out a whine of greeting to his superior.

The patrol had come back with nothing to report, the borders had gone uncrossed and there was no sign of an trespassers. There had been evidence of a bear moving into the North hemisphere of the territory but it was well away from the camp and was getting ready to bed down for winter hibernation. Come spring they may have to chase it off, though Asher did not think of it as a concern to worry Ghost about at the time. His eyes did not meet the Alpha's, though the dark haired male did look upon the white she-wolf, tail wagging between his legs ever so slightly as his ears slowly perked up. "Hope you didn't miss me too much." Asher said with a smile to his voice.

Thorn

Far from where she was expected to be, Thorn lowered her head to growl menacingly at the at the little trespasser. She bunched her muscles, and slowed her breathing, feeling the sudden rush of excitement that always came with taking another animal to the ground and tearing through their throats. Her quarry was frozen, staring right back at the gray she-wolf, waiting for its bigger and more equipped cousin to start the chase that would either end its life or scare it so bad it'd never return to this location. The birds in the trees stopped whistling their songs. The forest around the two was silent, until the little coyote tore itself from Thorn's gaze and bolted toward the nearest tree. Thorn dug her paws into the earth and sprinted after her prey.

The two sprinted through the trees, over logs, around bushes. Throughout the race, the she-wolf gaining on the coyote, and when her muzzle was just inches from the little scavenger's tail, the coyote darted into a nearby den. Thorn snarled, her hot breath appearing and disappearing just as she heard the scavenger's mocking laughter. It was male. "Lost this time? Eh, cousin?" Thorn growled, her ears pressed flat against her skull as she left the coyote's den in a foul mood.

Just half a mile from camp, she reined in her anger and began to approach the winter camp site. As she entered, she dropped her tail and looked over to see Asher approach Ghost, their current Alpha. She watched the beta show his rank by showing his throat. Thorn cocked her head in question before trotting over to her favored rock. It was a great at giving her warmth in the mornings when she wanted to sun bathe and it was in the shadow of the trees during the hottest parts of the day, proving a cool place to sit, and in the evenings, had a great view of the entire camp site. She lay her body down and let out a huff before laying her head on her paws.

"Just call me Sim."

Amber eyes blinked beneath the shrubs where a she-wolf had nestled in. The mottled pelt shifted behind her shade and the wolf let out a long, shivering yawn. The she-wolf stretched her legs and dug into the ground with her nimble paws. Lifesimmer wanted to sleep more than anything, but she knew of the work she had to do. She nosed the leaves out of her vision as she slowly crept from her sleeping place. The shrub occupied the corner of a clearing which the pack claimed as the heart of their territory. The camp now had wolves seeping in from the entrance. The she-wolf pushed herself onto all fours and watched them with weary eyes. Giving her pelt a shake, she wondered if she had slept in. Assuming that the Beta was back with a mouthful of companions in her ranking, she had. The morning patrol took their places and started to socialize as Asher trotted over to the Alpha. It was the Beta's duty to report in to the Alpha, even if there was nothing that took place in the premises.

Her amber hues studied the grounds, and her sights caught young Thorn resting by her lonesome. The she-wolf decided to gather up the courage to approach the fighter, padding over with her ears pricked. Lifesimmer stopped a tail length away and let out a muffled woof to get her attention. "Pardon," She breathes light and quick. "Have I missed the morning patrol?" What an obvious question she spurted out! The absurdity of her question made her nervous. The little stub, where her tail should be, stiffened. She wasn't used to talking to many of her peers, mainly because she was branded as an outcast because of her father. For some odd reason, the Alpha decided that Lifesimmer would be great use to her pack and took her in. Still, not every wolf agreed with her decision. She was pleasantly surprised when she was ranked as a scout instead of a lowly omega. Lifesimmer was determined to prove to them all that she was worthy to be here. So far, first impressions weren't exactly her department. The she-wolf listened attentively as Thorn prepared to speak, shivering with anticipation. If she had indeed missed morning patrol, she would take it as her duty to monitor the area anyway. Who knows what could be lurking out there with fewer wolves on the scene. The only wolf she could trust to be with her on this mission was Lichen, the sentry. Unless someone else wanted to come with them. She doubted it though, the majority of the pack recently came back from the forest and were probably hesitant of going back out there.

SADIES
Female | Omega

Sharp canines suddenly snapped in the face of the much smaller red fox as the small silvery dusted she-wolf proceeded to keep possession of the rotting dead rabbit that she had stumbled upon. The fox was determined but not as determined as Sadies. She was skinny, underweight, she didn't eat much, being an omega meant she never got as much to eat as the others and the fact that Sadies always got to carried away around mealtime meant that it was best for her to stay out of the way and wait for last. Everyone knew to stay away from Sadies while she had food because she completely changes, except this fox didn't.

The creature lunged in again, this time getting closer to the leg of the already disembowled corpse. Sadies lunged at the fox once again, growling and snapping her jaws. She was getting ticked off. Her hackled across her back were pointed upright and her body was tense. Her eyes locked sharp on the fox, he could see she was angry but proceeded to test her. All of a sudden it was lights out for the fox as it jumped in for another attempt to get the rabbit and the wolf grabbed him around the rump and ripped him apart with ease. Once the fox was out of the way she returned to enjoy the rest of the rabbit alone. It didn't take her long to finish the rabbit off and she decided to eat the fox also so that it didn't go to waste.

Sadies licked her white lips then got up shaking her pelt. It was painted with blood from where she had killed the fox and ate the rabbit but it wasn't much, nothing a quick wash wouldn't remove. She climbed to her feet and started to head back towards the den site, it had been a while since she had been around the pack, they would forget who she was if she didn't visit often. Sadies wasn't the most social of wolves, she kept to herself, she didn't really trust anyone. It was strange for a wolf to hate being around others of her own species but that was Sadies.

GRIFFIN
Male | Delta

Griffin shook out his pelt and came back into the view of the campsite. He was a large male with a thick black pelt and amber eyes. He was probably slightly older than most of the wolves, 6 years old. He pressed himself down under a tree then looked around while licking his leg. His joints hurt again as usual, he wasn't what one would say is old but he was defiantly not young anymore and his body clearly knew it. Join pains were common for him now.

He looked around to determine what every member of the pack was doing then he set his eyes on LifeSimmer and the alpha, Ghost. For a moment he wondered what was up, maybe he had missed some-thing as well. For a moment he pondered but then his mind rested, there wasn't anything he really had to be doing which he could had missed out on. He relaxed again, removing his gaze and allowing his head to drop to the ground and his eyes close.

His peace didn't last long, it never did. The sound of rustling near him distracted him and made him open his browny orange eyes. It was just a bird, a small blackbird looking for insects in the snow. The forest was so alive, so active where as he wasn't He yawned, his yawn was some-what funny, sounding similar to the sound a cat would make when meowing, before he dropped his head back down and shit his eyes once again.

"Lih-chen. That's how you say it.
Not Lie-ken. I am not a fungi."

It has been assumed that Lichen was now on break. He could smell the scent of one of the ranked sentry members approach him. He turned his head to the left. The sentry's head popped out from the entrance and greeted Lichen with a hearty bark. He dipped his head as a symbol of appreciation to the wolf that would be taking his place in the new shift. The first thing this chunky wolf wanted to do was run. It wasn't because he was the swiftest of wolves, since he definably wasn't. It was because of the exhilaration; feeling the cool frosty air billow his muzzle. As Lichen removed himself from his post, he bothered to ask permission from the wolf if he could go out for a run. "Why not? It's our forest." The wolf replied to Lichen. The speckled ginger dipped his head again and jerked away from the wolf, sprinting into the woods.

Lichen was minding his own business, taking a leak on one of the trees that loomed over him. He had been running for a while, exercising his stiff muscles. He was on post for what felt like all morning and he longed to stretch himself out. He kicked dirt and leaves over his mark, only because he felt it was polite to do so. Who wanted a full blast of his scent? Not himself for that matter. Another frosty breeze buffeted his back and he shivered. His flank was unprotected with the short fur he prayed would grow out. It never has. He wasn't meant to live in the cold. Just as the breeze had past, a mild scent of wolf teased past his nose. This scent was almost unfamiliar but it was in their camp before, however it was rare he would catch a smell of it. His nose raised up, daring to follow where it was coming from. Now nosing the brown leaves and twigs, he trotted in it's direction. His bum and long, curled tail stood straight up. This caught his interest now.

He was on top of a dirt hill, his reddish-brown eyes scanning the premises. The scent was unwavering now, stronger than his mark on the tree. However, nothing was out of sorts. No wolf either. Discouraged, he bounded down the side of the hill and landed clumsily into a clump of ferns. The ferns crumpled under his hefty weight. The ginger wolf quickly recovered his stance and his ears pricked to listen to anything that might have been startled. To his dismay, nothing. The scent of wolf was so strong he wanted to bury his muzzle beneath the crushed ferns. He did not retreat back to camp though, instead he inspected the area. The dirt hill he had once stood on had a burrow at the bottom made perfect to sleep in. At first he assumed it was the den of a coyote, because of the size, but the wolf's scent proved his assumption wrong. Without hesitation, he nosed the entrance of the den, ears forward with concern of who he might come face to face with. "Hello? Is anyone in here?" Nothing, but a supernatural presence caused his fur to tingle. It felt like he was being watched. Was something behind him? It caused him to spin around. A thin, white she-wolf with long legs stared straight back at him with mixed yellow eyes.

SADIES
Female | Omega

Sadies slowly walked back towards the camp. She deliberately walked slow, she was in no hurry. She kept her ears erect as she listened to the sounds of the forests. She knew most of the smells and sounds of the forest, she had become accustomed to them and so could tell easier if some-thing was different. All of a sudden the sound of rustling nearby made her completely stop for a second as she was cautious. She tilted her head to the side to listen more closely then lowered her head to the ground to smell the floor before lifting her head to smell the wind. She caught the scent of a male wolf, she knew the scent from around the territory, she had seen him before from afar like everyone although she couldn't put a face to the smell. She relaxed a bit and continued to walk although she was a lot more cautious now and tried to be quieter.

As she arrived back at her den site she came to a stop a few meters away seeing another wolf there. The tender she-wolf fearful kept her distance and kept silent. She didn't want to be noticed, not even by a member of her pack. She watched the familiar stranger investigate her home, she stood behind him at a distance watching him. She lowered her head curiously and sniffed the air towards him, she didn't trust him, not one bit.

All of a sudden the brute turned around and saw her. Sadies quickly scrambled backwards as if she had gotten too close. She was ready to run away as fast as she could if he was to step towards her. She held her body low to the ground and her tail curled right under her body and her ears back. She stared straight at him in fear of looking away that he will lunge. She was still using her nose, still trying to smell him, but not as much, it was more the nerves talking.

[occ](Sadies doesn't growl at anyone unless there is food. That's the only time she is brave.) [/occ]

Cerci's soft, old, eyes blinked open slowly. The elderly wolf lay in a pile of feathers and dead grass inside the camp, rolling to her back and stretching before falling to the side and getting to her paws. With a shaky stretch of her legs and a wide yawn she was on her feet and walking around. With a grayed muzzle and weak eyes she made her way around using her ears, though they were starting to fail her as well, and her nose. Asher had just returned, Sim had just awoken and emerged from a den, others moved around freely. With a huff the elder and oldest omega sat down, tail flicking irritated along the ground. "What kind of treatment is this? Up for more than a few minutes and no pup offering me breakfast." She spoke aloud, mostly to herself, like she always did. "I may be mean but a lady of my age should be well taken care of." Cerci muttered darkly, hunching her shoulders as she stood, padding off to find a pup to torment.

The bitter she-wolf passed LifeSimmer and Thorn, cloudy eyes narrowed as she folded her ears back, upper lip twitching in a sneer, a growl rumbling from the back of her throat. She had learned quickly to trust no one, not even the ditsy females, they'd turn around and bite you in the rump just as fast as an angered male. Padding away quickly she let out a startled yelp as she came nose to nose with a gray and brown she-wolf. "Orion, you startled the Gods out of me." The omega scolded darkly. The young pup's ears went up, tail wagging behind her, cold nose touching Cerci's again in greeting. The old wolf rolled her eyes with a woof and kept on walking, knowing the pup would follow obediently. "Don't you have somebody else to bother?" The elderly she-wolf complained as she stopped in the middle of the camp, summing up what was left of her strength to dig a small and shallow hole in the moist dirt. Sighing contently she closed her eyes, waiting for Orion to speak.

"Grandma!" Orion exclaimed as the old she-wolf had bumped into her, waggling her hindquarters and bounding along beside her. The pup sat down as the older she-wolf dug herself out a spot in the middle of camp, waiting for her to be comfortable before also laying down. The young wolf had been cooped up in camp since yesterday and there weren't many pups her age to play with. A small growl curled from her throat as she grabbed the Omega's ear in-between her teeth, giving a soft tug, trying to get the elder to play.

"Not now child!" The she-wolf snarled, lifting her head to free her ear from the pup's grasp. Orion laid her ears back and placed her head on the ground, whimpering softly as her tag slowly started to wag. She tensed and pounced, tackling the omega and taking hold of her ear again. "Gotcha!" The she-wolf growled as she wrestled. Cerci was in no mood to play though and quickly got up, shaking off her granddaughter. "I said not now! Sod off you overgrown pup!" Cerci snarled, snorting as she settled back down in her shallow hole.

Orion shook out her fur, ears burning hot with embarrassment as she trotted away, mumbling under her breath as she went. Perking her ears she spotted LifeSimmer and Thorn, padding over quickly. "Good morning! Any news from the patrol?" The future caretaker asked curiously. Her father, Asher, had returned not to long ago with his patrol, having gone straight to the Alpha to report his findings. Orion wanted to know what had happened along the north border, what better way to find out then from these two?

The Alpha female turned her head and smiled at Asher, her fluffed tail neatly beside her and her head held high as she sat. "I miss all of you when you leave." she noted truthfully, he pale red eyes sparkled. "I worry too much, but I guess I should have known this role in life would come with a price. There are some advantages to it I suppose."
The white wolf stood, holding her gaze on the male Beta, searching for the question she was originally going to ask him, but had forgotten. "Ah," she remembered, "was anything sighted during your patrol at all?"

"Lih-chen. That's how you say it.
Not Lie-ken. I am not a fungi."

The she-wolf's claws scraped the ground in a short retreat once their eyes locked, and Lichen tensed from her presence. Not that he was planning to attack her, but because she had startled him. He studied her with his reddish-brown hues. It was certainly clear that this wolf was much more alarmed than he was. There was no point in trying to defend himself, she didn't seek to fight. Instead, he lifted his head and his ears pointed forward in concern. What was this wolf doing out here? Was she a part of his pack? Her little muzzle twitched in his direction, she was smelling him. Lichen opened and closed his speckled mouth, slowly preparing to speak to keep the she-wolf calm. "Pardon," He dips his head to her submissively. "I didn't mean to invade your home." Lichen could not leave now. He had to get to the bottom of this misunderstanding. More importantly, he had to figure out if she was an enemy spy or if she was just a stray. Yet, he couldn't shake off the familiar scent. She must have been around the camp before for him to recognize it. He dreaded the thought of what he would have to do to her if she really was an enemy. Then, it dawned on him.

She must be an omega. But how so? Even omegas would stay in the camp.

OOC: (Thank you for the feedback, I edited my post to fit your needs. By the way, I'm only tagging Lichen and Sadies in this post because only these wolves are talking to each other. Once back to camp I tag everyone again. Just something I learned recently. If I tag everyone, I might confuse who is talking to who.)

The beta, satisfied that she had asserted herself as the dominate, came to his full height in front of the white she-wolf. His keen golden eyes watched her body posture and studied the way she woofed softly at him. Asher was unsatisfied with her animistic answer to his flirtatious play of words and tone. It was no secret that Ghost was all business and rarely any pleasure, despite his numerous attempts to woo her. Over the last month or so his pursuit of the alpha had gone stale, though he always made sure to show her some charm every once and awhile. It had seemed, or at least from Asher's point of view, that she held no real interest in a relationship with the mature male wolf. It hadn't crushed him too much, though the ambitious wolf was a little let down at the beginning. Now they shared a rather close friendship and Asher believed himself to be one of her closest advisors. "The borders were clean of any signs of trespassers. Stale fox den near the Old Cherry Oak, no fresh trails from the inhabitants." His tone was cool, collected.

The Beta, done with his report, dipped his head out of respect before backing away and turning to trod away, limping heavily and favoring his crippled leg. His eyes narrowed on his daughter, spotting her standing with LifeSimmer and Thorn. Their eyes met briefly as the large dark haired male walked across the camp, though he did not linger his focus on the pup for too long. Their relationship was weak, if not nonexistent, between father and daughter. When Orion had been much younger, merely a few weeks old, a badger had found Vitani's den. Like all female wolves, she had taken herself outside of the safety of the pack to deliver a litter and raise the single pup alone until she was old enough to bring her within the rank of the pack. While Vitani had been out hunting the male badger had sniffed out the pup's hideaway, digging out the entrance. When the she-wolf returned to find her first and only pup under attack, she had acted. Vitani fought off the stout creature with ferocity, but later suffered infections in her wounds that had eventually led to her passing.

Asher had blamed Orion at first, still grieving heavily, but as she grew older he came to a realization that the pup had done no wrong. It was too late for their relationship to be mended by that time and the two kept a set distance from one another. Sighing softly, the adult wolf approached his mother, touching his muzzle to her shoulder as he lay in a spot across from her. "Enjoying yourself?" He mused at the elderly wolf. His mother flicked an ear and rolled over with a huff, ignoring him. Asher chuckled softly and let his tongue roll out the side of his mouth, panting softly as he enjoyed the weak fall sunlight from overhead as he listened to the sounds of camp life.

Thorn

"Pardon," LifeSimmer breathes light and quick. "Have I missed the morning patrol?" Thorn raised her head,as if to say, where were you? Planet Jupiter? The gray she-wolf sighed, "Yes." Not looking at the she-wolf's face directly, Thorn could feel the sudden grief, rage and homesickness that always accompanied the tailless she-wolf. She reminded Thorn too much of her past predicaments and how she became a rogue for a year before joining the Fallen pack. Thorn growled, her hazel eyes looking off into the forest as if she weren't there but somewhere else. Maybe even a better place.

Without meaning to, she shook her head and found herself looking at LifeSimmer. Grief stung her pelt and made her look quickly away. Thorn lay her head back on her paws, and her eyes would have misted over if it weren't the other she-wolfs shadow blocking out the sun. Reminded that her life had once been like Simmer's, she looked at the wolf and smiled, "Where were you anyway? Off running around with rogue males?" The new light in her eyes said she was teasing.

"Just call me Sim."

"Yes." Thorn's name fit the tone she set towards her. The gray she-wolf avoided Simmer's gaze with a hard glance towards the lumbering trees. Her quieted, throaty growl set her off and she wanted to dart beneath the undergrowth and hibernate for the rest of her life. However, she did not show it. Her mind surged with unsettlement and the stub of a tail slumped. It was the only part of her body she could show her feelings through gestures and no one would notice. Who would want to stare at her rump the whole time? Yet something about her hues revealed a hidden emotion. Simmer couldn't help but watch her silently, studying the signs waiting to be interpreted. For a split second, Thorn caught her gaze. Embarrassed, Lifesimmer darted her amber hues toward the bounding pup that was approaching them.

When she returned her eyes upon Thorn, her tail thudded the ground revealing an inward smile. Her inquiry left her fur standing on end with sheepishness. "O-oh, no way. I just slept in, I swear." She stammered, words falling from her muzzle in jumbled text. The question was absurd. Males always went for the females with the fluffiest tails. She was out of the question. Orion bustled into the conversation just as her fur became hot and bashful. "I..." She yapped awkwardly. Her tongue twisted and she found herself lost in her words. She ducked her head and avoided their piercing eyes. Her ears facing backwards. Thorn could answer this for her. She didn't want to admit to the young pup that she slept in. In fact, she wanted to keep it to herself but talking to another wolf pressured her to giving them reason for her absence.

Sadies continued to stare at him. She was afraid, every movement he made made her body jump slightly with surprise. She stepped back some more and briefe looked around planning her escape before looking back at him. Her tongue rolled out the front of her mouth as she started to pant with anxiety because of the situation. He didn't look like he was too attack however she had learnt not to trust anyone even if they seemed safe, she had made that mistake a few times.

As the words came from his mouth she pulled back once more. She paced slightly in the small area she was and whined through her nose. She was clearly stressed out. She didn't know what to say, she never did, it was as if the words were choking her, she wanted to reply but she struggled.
"Uhhh....It's...fine" she finally managed to say, her voice was tiny, so quiet it was possible he wouldn't had heard her. She closed her mouth trying to mask how uncomfortable she was but it was difficult plus her signs would had already given it away.

At Thorn's suggestion to where Simmer had been, Orion couldn't help but bow playfully wagging her tail and hindquarters in the air. " 'Sleeping in' a male's den?" She waggled her eyebrows and woofed softly. The young wolf bounced out of her stance, bumping shoulders with Simmer, reassuring that her words were only meant to tease. "Besides, she's got lookers far closer to home." Orion breathed out, rotating an ear back, listening to her father pant softly and grandmother snore. All playfulness left the she wolf as she sighed softly, putting a nose to Simmer's ear.

Orion enjoyed the company of Thorn and Simmer, they were both older, ranked, wolves and she had admired them as a pup. Finding a new source of energy to keep her moving she quickly scrambled to her paws and stood between the two, tilting her head as she balanced back and forth on her paws. "Since you missed the patrol this morning why don't you go at midday? I would love to go along." Orion yipped excitedly. The she-wolf was unsure of where she wanted to be within the pack. There were so many different choices and all were extraordinary in Orion's eyes.

"Lih-chen. That's how you say it.

Her fragile, broken behavior wrenched Lichen's heart. He wanted to assure her that she was safe and there was nothing to worry about. However, he knew better. Every time Lichen made the slightest of movements, the she-wolf would flinch, not to forget she'd inch farther away. There was quite the amount of distance between them by the time he woofed to her. In response, her tongue lolled and she whined quietly as she shuffled in her place. Lichen's ears stayed perked towards her and his tail stiffened. Was she ill? Was she hurting? Finally, he heard her murmur timid nothings. His head docked to the side. "Sorry, I missed that. Would you kindly repeat?" He responds steadily.

He hesitated to approach the frightened she-wolf. Instead, he decided to formally ask her to follow him back to camp. First, he had to contemplate how he should say it. He didn't want her darting off. If she did, she was light and limber and there was a chance that he would lose her on sight. He was too heavy to briskly give chase. His reddish-brown hues softened and he proved his docile nature by taking a seat in the dirt and crinkled leaves. This was the moment to ask, "Why are you out here all alone? Shouldn't you be with your pack?" He couldn't whisk her away immediately. He had to take it slow.

The tender she-wolf continued to watch him from afar. She nervously shook her head in reply to him as if to announce it wasn't important what she said. She looked away briefly towards the heart of the territory, where she was heading, then back at him again. She felt the sudden bitterness of the wind blow through her fur, it made a shiver go down her spine but she didn't show it, she knew better than to show any signs of weakness on a physical scale. She made no attempt to get closer to him, only would she retreat backwards.

As the brute spoke again she didn't flinch this time, she stayed where she was, she still wasn't feeling secure but she definitely knew the sound of his voice now. She thought his words through her head as if analysing them for any clues before she spoke again.
"I..." she didn't really know, or at least know what to say. "...I like being alone..." she replied, her voice was still quiet and shaky but it was louder this time, only because of his request.

"Lih-chen. That's how you say it.
Not Lie-ken. I am not a fungi."

There was a moment of silence before the she-wolf swayed her head side to side. He only caught a glimpse of her sneaking a peek towards the campsite. A sudden blast of chilled air buffeted the two wolves but only one revealed an obvious shiver. The she-wolf was as still as the trees while he shuttered with immense force. His rough skin was only covered with thinned ginger fur. He was jealous of the wolves in his pack with fluffy coats and long fur. The tinted wolf before him began to speak and Lichen teetered forward just an inch so he could hear her. "I... I like being alone..." She admitted to him. Just then, He noticed specks of red in her fur and around her muzzle. Where did that come from? Alarmed, he lifted his nose to the wind and the wind favored him. Her scent drifted down to reveal that it was the odor of fox, and a smidgen of rabbit. "Speaking of which, where are you from?" He questioned her. He whimsically dug up a new conversation. Obviously she had been living in the dark hole behind him, but what pack did she originate from? Maybe he could escort her back. Unless she was from the mountains... He prayed it wasn't the case. However, her aroma was just barely familiar. It was within the camp as well. He refused to believe it. "I'm sure everyone misses you." He adds obliviously, his tail thudding the ground in a small wag.

She watched the larger male sway with the wind, it probably made her look strange, maybe stronger than what she was but she ignored the point. She was still focused on him and his movements. All of a sudden the male took a step towards her, she managed to keep her calm but in turn she took a step back, a much bigger step back than he had just to be on the safe side.

"I'm from here..." she replied to him quietly. "...I'm in your pack" she added as the chill quickly got to her and made her shiver slightly but she recovered quickly. She looked down to the ground at the tufts of grass when he mentioned her being missed, she was rarely missed, she pretty much just tagged along as an extra to fill in if some-one else was to be unable to take up the role. Her eyes darted up when his tail landed with a thud as she was still alert of his movement.

Lacy
“Running, you should know, is a kind of stillness.” ― Tiphanie Yanique
Image

The bright fire was slowly fading behind her, as was the victory cries of the humans and last whimpers of her family. Soon the only sound that filled the dark forest was the thumps of her paws onto the ground and the soft exhales and inhales of breath. Cold gusts of wind fought against Lacy, threatening her to slow down, but she ignored it, she ignored the burning of her lungs as she pushed the freezing air in and out, and the numbness of her paws as she pushed herself to get further and further away, as she tired to escape her appending doom. It would be so easy to stop now, to give up and let death come and collect her, but she had always been a fighter, she had never been one to give in. The she-wolf would never understand why it was her who had lived and not one of her siblings, after all, she was the smallest of her family, she would have been the easiest to pick off, the only thing she had going for her was her speed, and even that was less when it came down to a battle. Then again, it was her speed that had saved her.

The night wore on, and as she traveled up, over the mountain, the air cold colder and the winds whispered louder, soft snow was falling slowly, unlike in the valley below. The tall, dead trees cracked and twigs snapped beneath her, and yet, she only stopped once. She stopped at the peak of the mountain so she could turn around and look down at the valley that used to be her home. She could see the fire that was engulfing the dead trees, it was slowly spreading, through it would stop soon, it was clear it had been man made. Other animals were running away, fleeing from death. She lifted her head, and let out a heart broken howl. It priced through the air and echoed off the the mountain and down to the burning valley, and the darker, untouched valley. Lacy turned then, and started to run again. She didn't stop again after that, not with the picture of her home burning branded into her mind.

Soon the mountain started to tilt downward and she knew she was coming closer and closer to the other Tribe of wolves. Her mother had heard mere rumors about the other wolves, since not many of her own tribe had liked to travel over the mountain, she knew now, by the scents that burned her nose, the rumors had been true. This tribe, The Tribe of the Fallen, was one of the biggest tribes in this area. If she could, she would warn the Alpha of this tribe, explain what had happened, how ruthless the humans had been, and how they might be next, and then she would move on to warn others. Lacy no longer had a family of her own, the least she could do was help protect other family's from the same loss.

She pushed down the swelling emotions, the pain, and pushed her legs to move faster. She strained her ears and nose, trying to hear if any of the wolves were near by, trying to figure out how old these scents were. As far as she could tell, they were at least seventy-four hours old, most likely, they had belonged to a hunting party, they were most likely trying to pack as much food up for the rest of the pack before winter hit them as hard as it had hit the mountains. The snow was still caught up in her fur from when she had been higher in the mountains, and most likely it wouldn't melt out completely until the sun rose. Lacy kept going through, ignoring the new cold as she traveled blindly through the forest. She didn't start to slow down until she came across newer scents. The she-wolf soon slowed down to a light jog, and let out a softer howl than before, through she still winced at how horrible it sounded, like she was a dying animal calling for help. She was certain that the tribe would hear the unfamiliar howl and come to investigate.

Thorn

Thorn smiled lightly at Orion's sudden jest at Simmer. She saw the young adolescent glance at her father, Asher, and the Fighter looked too. She wagged her tail slightly as she saw a blur in her peripheral. "Since you missed the patrol this morning why don't you go at midday? I would love to go along." Thorn lowered her ears at that, the new look in her face that of which a mother would wear. It said, No. Yet again the young wolf seemed so happy at the idea. "You can't go unless you can take me down," Thorn replied as she swiftly jumped to her paws and into a play-bow. The way she moved suggested her to be happy and having fun, but her solemn gray eyes spoke another story. "Come on, pup, you can team up with Simmer if you truly think yourself to lose this fight." Wagging her tail as she waited for Orion's and Simmer's reply to her challenge.

All too soon, Thorn froze, her ears pricking forward as she heard the foreign howl cut through camp. She jumped around, and with only a warning look at Asher, she bolted into the forest, running toward the howl. She was no sentry or scout, but living alone and with no one to fight with her, had learned to run for her life. Thorn leaped over a fallen tree, and stopped to listen, her breathing rapid and quick, as she heard a wolf approaching. Her hackles went up, as she saw a strange she-wolf approach. From the way it moved, Thorn could tell it was exhausted, but it would get no sympathy from her. She growled warningly, and flicked her ears backwards listening for Ghost and Asher.

Ears went back, tail tucked, and body lowered to the ground as Orion heard the howl. Tense eyes peered out fearfully into the forest, the young she-wolf's playful banter was all but gone as she cowered next to Simmer. In the next moment Thorn had jolted to her feet, speeding out towards the trees like a bat out of hell. "Thorn! Wait!" But it was no use, the fast older she-wolf was already out of sight. Orion looked to Simmer and then back at her father, eyes watching as the large male wolf struggled to his feet. The crippled Beta was already exhausted from his long patrol out to the North border, Orion could tell by the way his muscles quivered when he stood.

Turning her head back to the forest, heart pounding, she ran after Thorn. Ears laid back and tail streaming behind her she followed the she-wolf's scent towards an unfamiliar one. Even if she didn't know how to fight, no wolf of the pack should face a stranger on their own. Orion had followed her gut and followed on a mere whim, coming to stand by Thorn, hackles and tail puffing out as her hair stood on end, tingling her skin. Upon first seeing this 'intruder' Orion couldn't help but be caught off guard by the strange new female. The she-wolf stood barely as tall as the pup and was similar in size, Orion's ears perking out of curiosity and head tilting. This stranger was no pup, she smelled mature and weathered by the seasons. "Oh," She started with a small whine, tail wagging between her legs. "My name's-"

Image

"Orion!" Asher's stern voice snarled from behind the two she-wolves as the large dark haired male padded through the undergrowth at a much easier pace than what Thorn and Orion had taken off at. His sharp golden eyes glared down at the pup, lips curling back as he bared his teeth, towering over her. The pup lowered herself to the ground immediately, showing her throat and tucking her tail submissively. "Get back to camp." The beta snarled sharply, giving her back foot a well deserved nip as she turned and padded away, the teeth to her ankle making her go faster. Asher's gaze turned onto the owner of the howl, his stance calm and collected as he approached, tail pointed up and head lifted, asserting his dominant rank up front. "Can you not smell? The borders are clearly marked, state your business here or allow me to escort you back." Asher woofed, a small growl at the back of his throat. He meant no disrespect to the small she-wolf, but there were rules that he had to follow.

A wolf this close to camp was concerning and shouldn't be taken so lightly. He was sure that if their positions were switched she would have acted the same way. His golden irises studied her small size and the color of her coat, nose burning with her smell, memorizing it. She looked healthy enough, not big enough to fight off Thorn and himself, but she looked swift and not easy to catch. Asher could barely catch a regular sized wolf who could run at a decent speed, this compact little runner would be long gone before he could catch up. No matter, there were others in the pack well suited to tracking and hunting a trespasser down, Asher only need to give the word and get confirmation from the Alpha. Would she run? Or would she stay? Asher let his eyes meet with hers, head tilting to the left as his tail fell from its high point to swish between his legs slowly.
