"The true battle is within. We must learn to control our desires rather than letting them run free."

a character in “Blood & Fire: 2nd attempt”, as played by Valveskur

Description

Venlak
Image
Physical Description

Venlak goes around wearing his flashy clothes and glasses. Ven likes running his hand through his blondish hair for no reason. The glasses are intended to hide his eyes, which seem all too lifeless. Something he hates. He also hides a scar going straight across his stomach. {Nothing much to him really.}
-
Age; 308 (Flipped) {He lost count after awhile}
-
Height; Six foot one- 6'1
-
Race; Vampire
-
Personality; Although he's a vampire, he waits to feed until the last possible moment. Altogether he's a cheerful guy. Not with standards of killing... Or whatever other normal vampires do. Things. Taking things seriously is... Not his strong suit. Unless provoked to an unbelievable stage. Then that's a different story.
-
Backstory- WIP

If I were to explain every I've gone through, I'd surely be here forever.

You see, I grew up in a very abusive home. Expected to follow the family heritage... Being a vampire wasn't my choice. The choice was ripped out from under me the moment I was turned. Even back at that age, I still went after cattle... animals, etc. Wandering around for at least three hundred years or more is a big burden. You find people you like, only to watch them die from old age or vampires. Or even a sickness. You'd wish to turn them so they don't die, but then they refuse to become the thing they're at war with. My story is my story... And mine alone. So go make your own.

Venlak rushed forward, feeling the wind press against his body. There were many things he missed when he was younger. ~Why must one give up his humanity just to live?~ He always asked that question. Living without feeding was painful enough. Starving himself would also make him incapable of doing good- to show people not all Vampires were the same. How could they be? This wasn't free any more than it was a prison.

Many others would have a different view, but Ven strived to be good. Not to fall into his desires as he did at a young age. He'd seen it all... Or so he thought anyway. ~I haven't seen a human for some time. Well, not too long.~ It would've been nice to have some company besides Vampires. Have someone else's view for a change would be a good step forward. Even if it was biased; He could still view it from both sides.

Adventure still brimmed deeply within him. Wanting to explore. He could explore if he wanted to. But it'd seem pointless seeing as how he was.

Ven stopped moving to reflect. It'd get pretty boring once he saw it all, wouldn't it? Venlak shrugged it off, now walking instead of running. Taking in the surroundings. Breathing in. Breathing out. He wasn't sure he even needed to breathe. "I wonder what'd happen if I rushed into a human..." His voice trailed off as he continued walking. What were the chances of running into a human?

Severely low.

Lance had been fishing for a few hours when he heard a few birds behind him fly out of the trees. He turned to look and it was clear that something had startled them. He pulled out a pair of binoculars from his messenger bag and looked to the area the birds had flown away from. He noticed movement in the bushes down below. For a brief second he saw the form of a person walking. He was pale, wearing glasses, and his clothing was too fancy and clean to be human. "Shit!" he muttered. He instantly regretted it, knowing that the vampire could probably hear him. He grabbed his bag, but left the fish he had caught and went off in a direction away from the settlement. He saw the Space needle in the distance so he walked off in that direction. He wouldn't run until he was sure he had been seen. There was no point in drawing more attention to himself than he already had.

Venlak's ears perked up. "Hm?" He was broke from his train of thought as his eyes scoured the open-ness. Rushing forward once more, he looked for the sudden sound that attracted his attention. ~Could it be? No. Humans wouldn't come out this far... Would they?~ Ven paused when he saw the fish. "So humans do come out here?" His ears perked up again, listening. ~Why do they always run? Is it because of the depiction other vampires have made for us?~ And by us- he meant himself. Picking up speed, Ven rushed once more to see this human. "Hey there." He tapped the old man's shoulder. "I'm Venlak. I didn't mean to startle you from fishing." He talked so suddenly he didn't really give time for a response until he'd finished talking.

Lance jumped higher than a man of his age should have been able to. He knew that vampires were fast, but he didn't expect for one to end him like this. It took him a second for the vampire's words to sink in. "You're a vampire. Do you think I care what your name is? Just kill me and get it over with. No need to toy with an old man." He said as he closed his eyes and waited for the death blow.

Venlak gasped in the offense. "I feel quite insulted you think I'd kill you. I much prefer cattle or birds. Anyhow." Ven circled the old man. "Forgive me for my pacing. I usually do this when thinking." He took in what the man looked like. "I don't think anyone should have to die to a vampire." His mind flashed back to the past but soon came back. "You know, I only met one other human. She was quite nice. I hope humans aren't evil." Ven chuckled. "Although, you do view vampires as evil in your own eyes probably... I am not like the rest."

Lance wasn't used to vampires making sense or talking about morals. "Good and evil are constructs that don't hold much value in this world anymore. I don't know you so I can't make an assumption as to whether you're good or not. But based on my past experiences, I've yet to meet a vampire that cares about much more than feeding. So forgive me if I'm skeptical." He gave Ven a cautious look. He took a deep breath and extended his hand. "My name is Lance." He said with a noticeable amount of emotional difficulty. "So if you aren't out here to feed and don't want to kill me, what are you doing?"

Venlak smiled brightly. "Like I said before, I'm Venlak." He extends his hand to shake Lance's. "I'm out here to try and relax. It gets tiring being around Vampires who aren't like me. Feeding is the last thing on my mind concerning anything." Ven looked down at their hands, blinking as if he was lost. "It's almost as if it was only yesterday. You know, a human... inspired me to be good." He chuckled again. "I didn't even think humans came out this far. I mean, I haven't seen a human in forever. So it's interesting."

Venlak drudged his left hand up to his eyes. "Based off what I know so far. Which is very little. You enjoy fishing?" He didn't mean to seem like he was prying. He had only asked one other human what her habits were. He was intrigued to explore the human mind. Since he'd long forgotten how it was.

"Well it's more relaxing than hunting, but it's more of a necessity than anything. I have to put food on the table some how." He spoke with wisdom in his voice. "A human inspired you, huh? Must have been quite the catch to make someone defy their nature like that. You see vampires, humans or anything else in this world, they're not evil or good to start with. They make choices based on their nature and it's in a vampire's nature to feed. It's in a human's nature to fear things they don't understand. I know more about the legends than most." He looked at the Ven. "So do you feed on animals instead of humans? I've heard that was possible, that some of them did it in the time before the flare. I always wondered if it were true." he said as he looked out over the water.

Venlak looked to the man intently. Not in a bad way of course. "Aye. It's been over at least ei-... Three hundred years since I've last met someone like her." He spoke, quietly and yet swiftly. "I too have heard of the legends over a long period of time. Quite funny how people heard it. Some are different. Some are the same." Ven let his hands hang at his sides. "Yeah. It's hard, considering it takes a lot to quench the desire of blood." He followed Lance's gaze to the water. "I must agree with you. Although I view it differently, I agree. I like to view it as; It's their choice. One moment they could make the best choice possible, but then choose the worst next. Everyone has different views. But some are also the same." Ven ran his hand through his hair. "What brings you out here? I'm sure there's more then one place to fish."

"It's a convenient place. It's close to the settlement. Also there are a lot of big fish out here, every now and then I can even get a bear out here." He smiled thinking about the last time he killed a bear. "As much as I'd like to keep chatting with you out here, pretty soon the others from the settlement will come looking for me. If they see me with a vampire, they'll try to kill us both. No sense in that. I'll probably be out here again tomorrow, I go hunting or fishing daily. I don't mind the company if you miss interacting with people or just want to talk." Lance smiled and shook his hand once again. "I'll see you around" He said before he walked back to the boat, grabbed the fish then returned to the settlement.

Venlak nodded as Lance walked off. "Now I must return." He took his time walked off, heading towards the "den" of vampires as he called it. "Hopefully nothing much happened while I was gone." Ven kicked rocks. Whatever he could. ~It was nice to talk to a human. Once and awhile- normal can be quite nice.~ Stuffing his hands into his pockets, he felt a piece of paper. ~How long had that been in there?~ Ven pulled out the piece of paper and started reading it. "Ah. It's this..." He stuffed the note back into his pocket as he came across a door.

Pressing his hand against the door, Ven opened the door. "-'Ello gents." He walked forward, not really expecting a response. Why would anyone respond to him anyway? ~Just like any other day.~

Ven took joy in his day being like all his others, except the small change in detail.

Venlak saw the sun setting. "Senses are usually heightened at night, so maybe looking out there would be better now." Ven rushed out from where he was, not letting himself stop to say bye. Not that he would need to. It was almost time for him to feed again after two years. His thirst was becoming more noticeable, making him a bit more daring as well.

The best place to find wildlife would be near water. But he also had to be careful not to thin the herd. If he killed too many, he'd soon have to resort to humans. Which he'd kill himself before even attempting that.

When Ven arrived at the nearest water source, he began whistling. It seemed a bit off. Sniffing, he smelled an animal. A dead one. Each animal carried a specific smell when alive and dead. He smelled dead. "So I guess I'm not the only one who looks for animals? Or maybe it's a human hunting." Ven was careful to approach the direction he believed the person who killed the animal went in. He also took into mind that it could be a Vampire, making him cautious.

Following his instinct, he asked out. "Hello? Anyone out there?" Ven was quite loud to catch anyone's attention. Hopefully, he seemed friendly. He was friendly. Nothing wrong with making friends... if they wanted friends... whoever they were.

Brandon was quite a distance from the Ven, but he heard him call out from where he had been hunting earlier. It sounded like a friendly voice. It didn't make sense, there were no humans he knew of in this area and if there were, they wouldn't be calling out like that. He stepped out of the book store, his vision instantly focusing on what looked like a man off in the distance. He called out to him, knowing only another vampire would be able to hear him that far away. "Come over here." he called. He thought it was weird that the guy looked so similar to him. His hair, the eyes behind the glasses about the only visual difference was his style and his height. "Wow, kinda weird, he looks like he could be related to me."

Venlak noticed a figure and heard him call out. Nodding his head, he rushed forward. It would be a blessing to find another vampire that wasn't only interested in human blood. And from the looks of it, it seemed like he wouldn't be bored.

Within a few seconds, he was in front of the mysterious person. "Hello there, I'm Venlak." Ven had kinda a goofy attitude to him right now. "It's nice to know that I'm not the only vampire who's interested in animals. Or Cattle. I mean, I can tell because of how you smell. N-n not that I'm weird or anything!" He defended himself awkwardly. He was about an average age and yet he still had problems being social to... certain people. "I mean. I can smell you from here. N-" He found it pointless to defend himself. It was like he was digging himself a bigger hole to go lay in. "I'm just gonna stop being that... way. I'm Venlak!" Ven's attitude returned as he greeted the young man.

"I get it, man, I know what you mean." Brandon gave a smile to the Ven. "I'm Brandon, nice to meet another vamp with similar... eating habits." He chuckled. The guy was cute the way he got all socially awkward. He didn't want to make assumptions about the guy though. "Come on inside, most of the books in here are still in good shape and I think they might actually have some board games in here too if you're looking to pass some time." He held the door open for Ven. "You aren't related to the Lamont's in any way are you? I know that's a weird question, but you just look so much like me I just was wondering if we might be related." He began to chuckle with his own little bit of nervousness.

"Lamont? I've never heard of the name before. It sounds neat though." Ven chuckled quietly. "O-oh. Um, thank you for letting me in." He awkwardly walked in, looking around. He hadn't been invited in somewhere for... A long time. "It's nice to meet you, Brandon." His attention snapped to Brandon after hearing books as well. "I mean. I haven't read a book in a long time either. I mean. I don't mean to impose... Could I read one?" Ven scratched the back of his head as he smiled. "But I think if you're lonely I could play some board games with ya'." His attention spanned across the place before his eyes landed back on Brandon.

It took him awhile to figure out he was staring and stepped to the side. "Um. So. This is awkward. How long have you been out here?" Ven's mind burst with questions he wanted to ask Brandon. "I mean, I can ask a question one by one." He didn't even know he asked one question. Not multiple questions. His words and rambling were all over the place.

Brandon couldn't help but smile. "Well it's not like I own the book shop so you can read anything you like, you don't need to ask me. I just found these guys to be the best form of entertainment since the flare knocked out all the power. I'm a little bit lonely, but that's to be expected with my... I guess I mean our way of feeding. The humans stay away, the vampires treat us like we're weak and pathetic. So I've been on my own since the flare and the people I loved were eaten by vampires." He looked at Ven. He was so excited and bursting with energy. He let the guy ramble for a little bit before he interrupted him "Dude, you're so wound up, how about you relax a little bit?" he smiled gently and took him by the hand. Brandon had cased the shop earlier in the day and set it up before returning to it tonight. He took Ven to an old bean bag chair that he planned to use as a pillow tonight. He laid him down on it and rubbed his shoulders to get him to calm down a little. "There isn't that better?" He asked.

Venlak froze up from embarrassment. "U-um. Yeah..." He had to admit. He felt a little tense and this did help. He completely forgot to stop and wait for his response. "T-thanks." Ven muttered quietly before looking up at Brandon. "I couldn't help but have an input on what you said. Even though they treat us like we're weak. We still maintained our humanity, didn't we? Feeding off of animals is hard but also worth it." His voice drifted off. He hadn't relaxed for a while so this was new. "I don't mean to pry, but you don't have anyone out here with you?" Ven's eyes were filled with a slight emotion. After all, he hadn't felt emotions for a long time. "I can stay here and make sure you aren't alone." Ven smiled brightly once more. Then Ven decided to use a reverse thingy majhig on Brandon. "Are you relaxed?" He tilted his head slightly. ~The flare. That wasn't too long ago, was it? Hah. My memory is pretty bad.~ "I can't be the only one feeling relaxed." He protested kindly as he continued to look at Brandon.

"I like to think I kept my humanity. I still have emotions and don't just cast people aside like they're food." He looked down into Ven's eyes as he smiled. "There's no one here but us, but I would love to have some company for a while." Brandon smiled at the obvious trick he was doing here, but he went along with it. "Well, if you insist, I guess I'm a little bit tense." He chuckled as he laid down on the floor next to Ven. "So what about you? How long have you been... alone?"

Ven sighed quietly. ~You can be truthful. Three hundred is just to make you young.~ "About..." He paused to think how long he'd been alone. "Over Three hundred years." He sighed once more. "It's nice to finally take a break from it all though. Like an actual break." His smile remained as he looked to his side towards Brandon. ~Company for a while...~ "Well don't think you kept your humanity. You have, haven't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't be hunting animals." Ven was rather quick to try and change the subject off of himself. He much preferred to learn about other people.
