Hair Color: Brown

Physical Description:

The most notable part of Gavin's appearance is that of his figure; slim and slender, no doubt as a result of the genes inherited through his father for his height and also as a result of him keeping fit and healthy. Though he does do his exercises as he aspires to be as strong as Evan who he looks up to, he does not go over the top and spend hours working out as what was the point, he wasn't in the military like Evan or his best pal from college, but he does enough so that he maintains his image since he is wary about the way he looks, not only his body but the clothes that he wears which have got to be comfortable and his hair to make sure that it doesn't grow too long, as well as keeping ontop of it so it remains soft rather than greasy. Like his hair which is soft to the touch, his creamy skin is also, his face well-rounded with his soft facial features and his eye-brows which are also maintained to make sure they do not bushy because that would be awful.

General Overview
Gavin follows his fathers' footsteps as a scientist in the pursuit of knowledge. As the maxim goes, knowledge is power, but it is how such power is used that is important. Gavin is against how the mer-people were being treated, sure they were the ones that started the attack in the first place, but that was only because humans were expanding on 'their' territory. Personally, he believes that they and the mer-people should be able to co-exist, now that the creatures are real rather than just a myth, but something tells Gavin that there are those who would rather remove them completely which concerns him greatly.

Growing up as a scientist, Gavin questions almost everything and curious about everything that he does not understand. He admires his father for how much he has accomplished, but he only wished he didn't have to rely on the government for funds and having to do what the government says which is also frustrating. Gavin is a likeable guy, he's friendly and approachable and he always tries to do the right thing whether it is acceptable to others or not. Sure there have been a few girls that caught his eye at school but who wants to be with a guy that can hardly protect himself and nevermind them. It is why he looks up to Evan who is able to protect himself by being the leading hunter to bring in the mer-people for his father and his team.

He is not one to seek pity, but he does speak his mind whether to himself or to others since thinking about it outloud helps him sieve through to the things that still held ground. Gavin may not be as strong as Evan or brainy like his father, but he does come inbetween and having the best of both worlds with their help, even more so since finishing school. Some of his plans work, some of them fail, but he learns from his mistakes and is quite persistant in making things work, like working on his own plan to free the mer-people since unlike his father, he is not being watched. However, to be able to work to their best, they had to do what drove them like scientists of the past, scientists certainly do not work so well when they are chained up. Gavin believes that maybe it is time to break the shackles.....

History

Image

ImageWhere to begin....well, Gavin was born 18 years ago to two 'loving' parents, or at least that was the way that Gavin saw it back then like any baby, totally in a world of their own and pretty much casting reality as a blur which could not be understood, nor knowing where exactly where he was. As the years went on, he learnt about history and became quite interested in history, seeing that they lived under the water which was once a restricted place. However, it seemed that he'd be going through life with only his father when his mother left them. Well, left his father since she kept in touch now and then but it was hard. With the absense of mother, Gavin pretty much took care of himself. Sure he had his father, but Gavin took pride in the way he looked as he grew older and liked to look his best, especially when making a nice impression. Afterall, he was the son of a leading figure of the submerged colonies so he didn't want to let his father down.

He also did not wish to let him down when he began tutoring him in science, something that he could not grasp or like at first, but as time went on, he got more and more into it, with science becoming a favourite to him as history has always been. Gavin was not a sporty person, but he did keep fit and healthy under the guidance of Evan who stayed with them now and again which was nice. Gavin wished he was stronger, but with the fights Evan gets in as he works under his father and the fights his pal gets in at school, he is quite content at remaining neutral and merely acting as support. With it just being him as the only child, Gavin had no elder siblings to look upto, but he admired Evan that he became a sort of big-brother figure anyway as he was the type, since big brothers are usually the strong ones who look after the younger ones which is what Evan did, so he certainly fit the bill.

Once school had finished, doing well at science and history as expected, Gavin left to aid his father since there was no way that anywhere else would satisfy and leave all that he had left behind. In this time, he has witnessed what the captured mermans go through and also came to realise his fathers' position when he begun getting watched which annoyed him. His father might be amazing and all that, but this was no reality TV show but real life! Despite his frustrations, he remained calm and just continued as normal while trying to come up with a way to set the mermans free but he didn't feel he was strong enough since he continued second-guessing himself, even when he was thinking aloud, but he knew he had to do something at this rate....

Ashley Simmons

Every girl loves a girl in uniform, or at least this was what was conveyed to the young Ashley in his youth, hence why he saw himself as a ladies man. Afterall, those in uniform have to be strong, especially when in the armed forces, so if a girl sees a man like that in a uniform, it is like a dream come true. Isn't such what the girls want, a strong guy to hold and protect them? Well, it was what was in Ashley's mind since college. If he couldn't wear a uniform, then it would be no uniform at all to clearly show off his abs and show how strong he was that way. The result? a hot girlfriend. Clearly looking after your abs and keeping your exercises got you the best, though it was the least he could say with his parents, the outset of their divorce had caused Ashley's victories to descend and begun being unable to cope as he wasn't pleased with mother for leaving him and wasn't pleased with father for not holding it together and being a man, in the process he lost his girlfriend.

However, Gavin came to give him words of encouragement to remind him of his past energetic self which in itself acted like his batteries had re-charged, causing him to get into that uniform that girls love so much and keep up the training and being a better man that his father was. Being the son of a General of course had its perks so Ashley had great training and what the armed forces wanted in recruits that caused him to be moved to a special unit, but then the armed forces suddenly became the colonies' fisherman. Not what he signed up for at all, but hearing of Evan Prescott's successes against them, Ashley was determined to become more well known than Mr. Big Head and show his stuff, seeing as he was now working with the so-called 'hero', both under the supervision of Colonel Lang, the Head of the Colonies Defence.

Ashley was in training when he heard Evan's voice behind him, causing him to stop training and listen to his orders, "Simmons, There's a merman about outside the dome. We're to capture him and deliver him to the Beckman Research Facilities immediately. Also, I don't want him hurt, are we clear?". Ashley nodded, "Perfectly", as Evan left to suit up, leaving Ashley to add, Big-head.." without him nearby. Of course the orders were clear as there was nothing wrong with his hearing, perhaps Evan merely loved the sound of his voice. Then again, he was close to Gavin as he recalled how Evan had helped him in his bad times, just as Gavin had helped him. Well, he can do more tutoring that he likes once he does better than him.

Suiting up, Ashley followed side-by-side with Evan, refusing to be behind as he too carried his equipment before swimming with Evan who unfortunately had the upper hand of having longer legs and arms. Cheat! as Ashley continued until the merman was spotted looking into the dome. The mermans certainly were intelligent creatures to actually have spies, but clearly this mission was going to be a failure. Spying into the dome and being so visible was so idiotic, yet they were forced to do what needed to be done. "Fire already...", Ashley said impatiently since the 'hero' liked to take charge, which he finally did so when the merman began to swim away. "It's a good job Colonel Lang wanted me along huh..", as he fired his capture cable onto Noel's legs, before taking the lead in bringing him into the dome. Afterall, knowing the 'hero', he probably wanted to do himself so this had to be Lang's intervention.

Orders were orders at the end of the day, as much as Ashley disliked fishing but what had to be done, had to be done, even if the merman had some resemblance to Gavin but he knew it wasn't Gavin which is why he did not hesitate. If Prescott kept this up, it wouldn't be long till Ashley became the 'hero', all the girls would be back with him then..wonderful! Once inside, he pulled out his phone and quickly texted Gavin that there was incoming so the Labs could get ready. He knew that it would annoy Gavin for another successful capture, but it wasn't exactly hard when the merman left himself so open and without backup. Ashley hated doing all this, but hopefully an opportunity would come to bring peace between their people and theirs.

Gavin Beckman

Beckman Research Facilities, his fathers' pride and joy, a pride that Gavin wanted to feel too but with what had happened in recent times, he didn't feel any pride of what his father was doing and he didn't believe his father had any pride of what he was doing either, especially having the Colonial Board have a Corporate Overseer in the form of Kenji Tran to watch his fathers' movements. His father was a scientist for goodness sake and now his every move was being judged. No longer could scientists be free to explore their own ideas and developments without the Colonial Board interfering. It was truly annoying. All those years that he had been with his father as his father passed on his knowledge and how great it was to be a scientist and now it seemed that the scientists were as caged as their 'specimens'.

Mermans were not 'specimens', if anyone should be a 'specimen', it should be the idiot on the Colonial Board that wanted the mermans experimented on in the first place. How could the war between their cultures end if humans were actually capturing mermans and experimenting on them, surely the best course of action was an act of kindness. His father from what he had witnessed had tried to release the 'specimens' but failed and as a result brought more eyes to watch him. Sometimes he just felt like lashing out on them but he knew he couldn't since he had to be there for his father, but he also had to be there for the mermans to make sure that there was kind scientists around and have some control of what was happening to them, which no doubt was his fathers' position now.

Just then his phone vibrated as he picked it up and saw Ashley's message that there was an incoming. Gavin sighed, but each had their jobs in this dictatorship, that caused Gavin to get up to see his father so that he could prepare the labs and prepare the chamber where this new merman would go. Seeing his father working, he walked up to him so that he was by his side with a hand on his back as he spoke, "I got a message from Ashley, we have another coming in", he informed him. Now the rest was upto father, but there was a nagging voice in his head that was asking him what he himself could do, but any answer was fruitless as what could he do, especially without help and without father, getting father to help would only get him into more trouble and he didn't want anything to happen to father.

Reeve Beckman

Reeve was busy overseeing various testing projects. Niles Nivens sat nearby logging in data from the previous research projectā€™s results. Robyn, standing a few paces away, feed some of the fish being kept under observation. Reeve was so wrapped up in the stats that he examined that he hadnā€™t heard Gavin approached him. Reeve turned to see Gavin beside him once he felt his sonā€™s hand being placed on his back.

"I got a message from Ashley, we have another coming in", Gavin informed him.

Reeve sighed heavily, placed his hand on Gavinā€™s shoulder and patted it a couple of times. ā€œI never thought Iā€™d cringe at news of a new test subject like I have in recent months. Thanks for the heads up Gav.ā€ Reeve Replied and began to prep the holding tank. He turned toward Robyn and Niles, ā€œPrep-for a specimenā€™s arrival stat.ā€ Reeve said unenthusiastically.

The team prepped the Tank and research items. Niles turned to Robyn and Gavin chuckling, ā€œHey ten bucks says that Iā€™m hotter than Mr. Merman.ā€ He gave a wink.

Robyn replied, ā€œYouā€™re on, my ten bucks is on the merman. So weā€™ll see when the poor chap gets here.ā€ Robyn gave a smile that conveyed how not so happy she was about another merman specimen coming in. She turned to Gavin with a warm smile. ā€œWill you stick around this time Gavin? We could use your usual cheer in the atmosphere.ā€ Everyone liked having Gavin help out in the lab. He was an excellent researcher and generally brought positive energy to the atmosphere.

Reeve added, ā€œYes Dad needs you by his side today Gavin.ā€ Reeve smiled exhaustedly.

Noel Rinion

Noel was terrified with what was happening to him. First his arms were bound and now his tail. The two humans were dragging him away into the colony. Noel had once snuck into the colony and attended a dance club once and he was terrified of the thought of getting caught then. However now he was actually being captured, a happening his father was very careful with warning Noel about avoiding. Noel struggled a little but it wasnā€™t easy. The humans were strong and Noel wasnā€™t much of a fighter.

When they entered the hub and the water was drained out Noel found him-self in more trouble. He was like a beached whale. He lay on floor flailing in an attempt to get away but it was utterly fruitless. One of the humans used a phone to communicate with someone. It seemed he was telling the person on the other side of the line to get prepared for them. Noel knew he needed to try harder to escape. H concentrated and began to levitate the water molecules in his body to hover above the ground and attempted to break through the hatch. The merman batted Ashley with a powerful blow of his tail sending the young soldier into the wall.

Evan was swatted as well with Noels swift tail fins. Even pulled out a tranquilizer gun that carried special darts filled with a solution that would de-moisturize a mermanā€™s tail thus preventing him from being able to levitate. ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€ Evan said as he pointed the weapon and fired a clear shot to Noelā€™s tail. Noel dropped hard to the ground unable to float above the ground like he had previously done. Evan stood to his feet and extended a hand out to help Ashley up. ā€œYou alright Simmons? We should have secured him better. Well lets head out.ā€

In a few moments a team of military soldiers prepped Noel for transport. They all arrived at the lab. Kenji Tran watched with a smile as Noel was carried into the research lab. He knew that Kyle MacLachlan the VP of the Colonial Board was to arrive in a few short hours to visit his potential merman plaything. Evan eyed Kenji suspiciously, he very much disliked the heavily political types that were so sneaky and agenda filled. Evan locked eyes with Reeve upon entering the lab and gave a saddened expression. ā€œSorry Reeve.ā€ Evan said quietly as he placed a hand on his shoulder.

Reeve sighed, ā€œMe too. I suppose it canā€™t be helped for now.ā€ Noel was placed into his tank and his vitals were being displayed. Reeve asked Gavin, ā€œCould you keep an eye on our mermanā€™s stats as I write up the lab reportā€™s preliminaries.ā€

Noel placed his hands onto the glass of the tank and stared hopelessly out at Gavin. The young human was quite handsome in Noels eyes. While looking at Gavin, Noel almost forgot that he was in danger. Noel let himself drift down to the bottom of the tank and sat looking at the people that surrounded him in the room. They all seemed quite interesting and very different from the merpeople, except for Niles who seemed to look like he could have been a merman given his looks and body.

Robyn stared at Noel in awe. ā€œWell Gavin who do you say won Niles and my little bet, Nile or me? I totally think this merman is captivating. Itā€™s a shame he was caught.ā€ Robyn said as she stood next to Gavin.

Kenji Tran stepped further into the room after ending a phone conversation. He stepped closer to Reeve and smirked. Reeve seemed to tense up considerably at that moment. Evan discreetly grabbed hold Reeveā€™s hand in an attempt to calm him down. Kenji spoke to Reeve, ā€œI just got off the phone with Vice President of the Colonial Board Kyle MacLachlan. He has ordered that no testing be done on the subject before he arrives to see him. He may be interested in acquiring the merman for his person use.ā€

Reeve couldnā€™t hide how upset he was. ā€œPersonal use?! Excuse me but what the hell does he think this is, a store for merman ken dolls? What the hell does MacLachlan plan to do with this man?ā€ Reeve questioned fiercely.

Kenji replied, ā€œThatā€™s no man, itā€™s a creature, half a man at best. What the Vice President plans to do with him is none of your concern past the initial check up of the merman. The Vice Presidentā€™s order is not to be questioned. Just do your job as we say you should do it Beckman. Are we clear?ā€

ā€œAs clear as how bullshit this all is. Yes crystal clear.ā€ Reeve replied in a stoically yet defiantly.

Kyle entered the lab and affixed his gaze on Noel. He smiled like a child in a toy store. ā€œHeā€™s magnificent isnā€™t he.ā€ Kyle walked up to the tank and spoke to Noel. ā€œDonā€™t you worry. In a few short days Iā€™ll safe you from here. I promise.ā€ Everyone in the room looked uneasy about the happening except for Kenji.

Evan spoke up in protest. ā€œI donā€™t think taking him into your personal custody is such a wise idea sir. He requires professional care.ā€ Kyle seemed to ignore Evan.

Kyle only smiled at Evan and then turned to the researchers. ā€œI will prepare a space for him in my home and in a few days I will have him transported there. Please take care of him and only do minimum testing, no scars.ā€ Kyle left shortly afterwards.

Gavin Beckman & Ashley Simmons

Science is the pursuance of knowledge, the process in uncovering what is in the world and the drive towards future development. Even though his father was the infamous scientist who had brought about the Beckman Research Facilities, Gavin felt that even if his father was not the scientist that he was, he would of still felt a pull towards science, to learn more about the world around him and to explore things in detail of how things work and how things were how they were. It was certainly a fascinating subject and the studies were also fascinating, he also found the work he does under his father very interesting, it was just the whole experimenting on the merpeople that he was totally against, it was inhumane and they were supposed to be human. It was wrong.

Nevertheless, as much as he disagreed with it, he remained in his position of work to retain the honor and integrity that true scientists have, but inside a desire was burning heavily to do something about it. Experimenting started at basic, but once the basic stages were completed, the experiments would go up to the next level. As the stages went up, the experiments were more harsher and it felt like a fellow human had been condemned into the cage, the experiment itself looking more like torture, which was why Gavin kept his distance as best as he could and why his father had tried his best to rescue their subjects, but ultimately failed and now had the government on his back. Now captured mermans had little allies when their hands were metaphorically tied.

Gavin and his father were not the only ones who felt the same way, as Ashley felt it too and so did Evan and Robyn, but it was hard to pick out among the scientists who were human and who were not so much. His father also knew how he disliked it as he felt him pat his shoulder, "I never thought I'd cringe at news of a new test subject like I have in recent months. Thanks for the heads up Gav", before ordering the team to prepare for the arrival as Gavin helped where he could as he overheard Niles chuckle, "Hey ten bucks says I'm hotter than Mr. Merman", causing Gavin's smile to appear as he rolled his eyes. Even with what they had to face, they still found something to laugh about, but it was hard for Gavin personally, before Robyn turned to him, "Will you stick around this time Gavin? We could use your usual cheer in the atmosphere", before his father then added, "Yes Dad needs you by his side today Gavin", which Gavin responded with a nod and returning their smiles. Afterall it was one of the reasons he was still sticking around, for those he did care about, and that there had to be some true scientists to keep this place from falling into the hands of tyrants......

.....It was not so long after that, then Gavin turned his head to see Ashley and Evan bring in their new test subject. As soon as they arrived, Gavin turned his head away so he could not see or react to the poor creature now entering captivity, but as he did so, he caught Evan's eye who was looking elsewhere, which Gavin followed to see Kenji Tran. He couldn't stand the man, so much so that he could barely look at him. They were all the same, those in government, always wanted more, their interests above the interests of others, and in this case it merely resembled the years of persecution in the time of Hitler when he was on the war path towards Jews because they were Jews, now it seemed that the government were on the war path simply because they were not human without any attempt to try and understand and try to make peace with such gentle creatures. Sure they launched the strike, but they could of handled things a lot better.

"Could you keep an eye on our merman's stats as I write up the lab report's preliminaries", he heard his father ask which brought him back into the world of miserable reality as he sighed with a nod as he took his station, trying to remain positive for the good of everyone else. Afterall, it was why he was asked to stay with them this time, even if doing such angered him when it involved these sort of experiments. Nevertheless, keeping an eye on the merman's stats was as good as being the merman's support as he made sure he was okay. The fact that he was doing okay made him feel better, but this was before the experimentation began, Gavin knew full well this would change as he looked up to finally see the merman whose hands were on the glass and looked out of it so peacefully, at him which was what surprised him and made him go a little red. "Well Gavin who do you say won Niles and my little bet, Nile or me? I totally think this merman is captivating. It's a shame he was caught", Robyn stated which made Gavin laugh before turning to Niles, "Sorry Niles, I think you own Robyn some money", giving Robyn a wink and feeling more cheery again which was why he liked to spending time with these guys. He only wished they were working on something more, more....something, the words not coming to his mind, especially when Kenji came down to speak to father, so though he wasn't part of it, he listened out so he could support his father, only to hear him say outloud, "Personal use?! Excuse me but what the hell does he think this is, a store for merman ken dolls? What the hell does MacLachlan plan to do with this man?".

Gavin understood his fathers' frustration and even smiled when he commented on the dolls, but even that humour could not ease himself as he thought about what MacLachlan wanted to do, further angered by how Kenji saw the merpeople as just a creature and further putting his father in his place about doing his told. This was not what being a scientist was all about, being a scientist was to make a hypothesis and test such a hypothesis and follow the course which a scientist sees fit, as he couldn't help but voice his thoughts but said such quietly so that Robyn could hear, "Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full sir..", clearly sick of playing slave to these heartless masters that they could do nothing about, at least at this time. He merely continued watching the merman's stats, completely blanking off Kyle as he entered and spoke of 'saving' the merman and then after Evan's confrontation, spoke of taking him home in a few days. What was the man thinking? He was no scientist and now wanted to have the merman as a pet, even if he felt that way, would he put a cat or dog or hamster under these conditions...no! so why the merman?

Anyhow, the only good thing that came from it all was it was Kyle's order for minimum testing only which meant the merman would not be harmed, but who knows what Kyle had in store. "He's quite the feisty one", said a voice behind him as Gavin turned and smiled as he saw Ashley who was looking at the new arrival. Examining his friend, he noticed he was holding his back, his straight face holding something in so he no doubt was putting on a brave face, such that he knew well with Ashley. "Can you blame him?", he said looking towards the merman as no doubt he must of attempted to escape and that Ashley had been preventing such escape, hence his covering up. "Well if it wasn't for Evan daydreaming...", he complained, but then Gavin as per usual put him at ease, "You know that those trying to escape, try to remove their greatest threat first to help them to escape...", causing Ashley to smile, before the two friends looked to their left as a few people rushed in towards Reeve, "We have a problem, there is a minor oil leak in one of the exterior pipes". Overhearing this, Ashley then turned to Gavin, "I better check this out, see you later Gav", before he then went off since the operation to fix the leak would involve him to clear the area....

Noel Rinion

Image

Noel watched quietly as the room full of people suddenly cleared out. The scientists mentioned an oil leak. Noel didnā€™t like the sound of that but if it got everyone to leave that couldnā€™t have been too bad in his current predicament. However one remained. The young man that stood close to the tank. Noel sat at the bottom of the tank with a saddened expression. He looked Gavin up and down and a slight smile crept across his face. Noel couldnā€™t help but feel slightly relaxed with Gavin nearby.

Noel remembered that getting out of there needed to be his first priority. Noel placed his hands on the glass and pushed a little. He then swam up a bit and braced his back against the rear of the tank and used his tail to push against the front of the tank, however this too proved fruitless. The glass was very strong and Noel wasnā€™t the strongest merman around. A look of frustration took over his face. Noel then decided that he should reach out to the human. Perhaps he would help Noel. Noel had begun to communicate in the mer-tongue but the language was hard on human ears and most impossible to understand.

Noel placed his hand over his mouth in embarrassment. His bangs flowed in his face. Noel whisked them out of the way and looked as if he had an idea. He gave an excited smile. ā€˜I know, Iā€™ll speak like the humans do!! Iā€™m good at that!ā€ Noel thought to himself. Most merpeople learned human speak in mer-schools. It was important for them to learn so that if need be they could take refuge among humans easier. Noel was most curious about human culture so his human speak skills were pretty good. However human speak didnā€™t work under water. He needed to be above the water to talk to Gavin. Noel then began to wave at Gavin. He pointed up to the top of the water and gestured by lowering his hands as to say, lower the water level. Then he gestured by pointing at Gavin and motioning his hands in a ā€˜mouth moving gesture.ā€™ As if to say, ā€œI want to talk to you.ā€

Noel smiled brightly when Gavin eventually followed suite. With the water lowered about halfway Noel was now able to speak in a manner Gain could understand. Noel swept his wet hair out of his pale face. ā€œHello I am called Noel Rinion. Do you understand me? Who are you? What do you want from Noel Rinion?ā€ Noel said his voice light and innocent.

Noel Looked around at the tank, examining it. ā€œIs this what humans call a Tank? I have heard about tanks before. Noel doesnā€™t like them very muchā€¦ā€ He began to look a bit sad once more. His speak was a little different from the average person but he picked up on sounds very quickly so heā€™d show difference from a native human in speak in no time given the proper exposure. ā€œWill you help Noel get home? My father has a home here can you help me find him. Noel would like to see his father.ā€

Gavin Beckman

Ever since Gavin had saw the merman look directly at him, he had instead opted to turn his attention to something else. Sure he was used to people looking at him but that was only while they were speaking, looking at a person while they spoke to such a person was being respectful and giving the attention needed, staring was something entirely different. However, as the room began to get emptier and emptier with Ashley gone, Evan gone, father gone, Niles and Robyn gone, he begun to lose others he could talk to that could distract his attention from the merman. Such an effect would happen no matter who was staring, but the sheer thought of someone watching your every move and looking you over was one to freak a person out, sending a chill down the spine.

However, being the one in charge of the area now with just him and the merman, Gavin had little choice but to acknowledge his presence and watch him as there was no-one else to do so, such that caused him to look up when Noel tried to break free with his tail but with no luck. If anything, Gavin wanted to open the cage and let him free but from what he had heard, this certain merman had been caught right outside the colonies so he had come here regardless of the risk, so would letting him go do more harm than good when he'd just repeat himself again.

Gavin truly didn't know what to do for the best, until it seemed the merman was trying to talk, or at least that was the impression he was giving. Afterall, mermans were half-humanoid so they had to have the ability to talk which he seemed to desire to do. It would give him someone to talk to anyhow and the lack of water wouldn't help his escape efforts either which covered his grounds if his act was questioned as he then moved to the water controls which then lowered the water until it was half-way, before returning back to his console to monitor his life signs as per his last orders.

"Hello I am called Noel Rinion. Do you understand me? Who are you? What do you want from Noel Rinion?", the merman spoke in a tone so innocent as if he was a child, compelling him to just go and pull him out, but unfortunately that tone would not help his case. The tone no doubt was a result of how much experience he has had around humans he guessed so would probably develop with more conversation which would of course show signs of intelligence which he was already showing by his awareness of where he was, "Is this what humans call a Tank? I have heard about tanks before. Noel doesn't like them very much...Will you help Noel get home? My father has a home here can you help me find him. Noel would like to see his father".

Instantly a security risk was already presented by the fact his father lived here, unless he was half-human and that his father was human while his mother was a mermaid. Maybe that was the reason why he took the risk to come here. Gavin wanted nothing more but to help him but he knew he couldn't, yet it seemed he'd be in trouble in a few days should he endure the transport to Kyle's residence who was not a man to trust at all. First Scientists get told what to do so they are no longer scientists, now they are babysitters and prison officers. None of this made sense at all, wishing the days of old would return but knew they wouldn't come, but the question was what to become of it and what was to be done about it.

His head remained down as he looked at the scans, purely to give himself time to brace himself. Afterall, he wasn't lying to Niles when he said that Robyn won the bet, such that become even more apparant when he had the courage to look up and seeing him more clearer as a result with the water down with his clearly defined abs that one could only dream of having, his sharp facial features containing those dark eyes that seemed to have the power to see right through him and then there were those pale waterly lips, while ontop of that was the water that dripped from his hair then across his face and shed like tears across his body.

All the time Gavin remained as composed as he possibly could, never did he imagine in his career as a scientist to have such a speciman as a test subject, usually it was inanimate objects or tests on the dead, but living creatures and young ones at that, it felt totally wrong. The merman who had introduced himself as Noel, had asked what he wanted with him and asking for his help to get home, such was enough to cause wobbly knees but Gavin remained firm. Closing his eyes and tilting his head forward while holding a clipboard, he took the opportunity to straighten himself and his sentences out.

Once ready, he looked back up, "I am afraid I do not have the power to send you to your home, for if I had, I would do so and let you out. What I can do is ensure your safety while you are here in the Beckman labs. My name's Gavin, and it's nice to meet you Noel, though I wish it was on better circumstances....", offering a friendly smile. Afterall, this was why Robyn had invited him to join them as he was always positive so why not, especially since he probably would be the only friendly face he will see.

Biting his lip lightly, he then grabbed his pen and then leant against the back of the console so he could talk to Noel better, "You mentioned you have your father who lives here, is he a human? and can you tell me how old you are Noel?", wanting to see what sort of age he was. He looked like he was 18 or over, but if he was younger and looked older than he looks, then perhaps such was an argument Gavin could use for his release, though even if he was, the attempt probably would be futile anyway....

"I am afraid I do not have the power to send you to your home, for if I had, I would do so and let you out. What I can do is ensure your safety while you are here in the Beckman labs. My name's Gavin, and it's nice to meet you Noel, though I wish it was on better circumstances....", Gavin replied offering a friendly smile.

Noel smiled in reply. ā€œNice to meet you Gavin.ā€ Noel pondered excitedly upon learning the youn manā€™s name. ā€œGavinā€¦ what a nice name. Noel likes the name Gavin.ā€ He was happy to hear the young manā€™s voice. He looked gentle and he also sounded gentle. However he was saddened to hear that the young man couldnā€™t help him in getting home. Once Noel thought on his predicament he bagan to look a little sad. He sighed and sunk downward in the tank. Noel glanced back up at Gavin shyly. Gavin seemed to be a confident and strong person. Noel was remninded of his friend Ibukiā€™s confidence. However Gavin seemed to be far more humble than Ibuki was.

Noel was reassured when he thought on Gavinā€™s mention of ensuring Noelā€™s safety while in the Beckman labs. Noel smiled once more. ā€œSo you are to protect Noel from harm? Then Noelā€¦ um I, wonā€™t worry. Humans say I instead of their names often right?ā€ Noel said in a reassured and upbeat tone.

Biting his lip lightly, Gavin then grabbed his pen and then leant against the back of the console so he could talk to Noel better, "You mentioned you have your father who lives here, is he a human? and can you tell me how old you are Noel?"

Noel was a little nervous about that question. He didnā€™t want to make anymore trouble for his father than he already had. He realized that he shouldnā€™t have mentioned his father in the first place but what was done was done. There was no changing that now. Noel looked conflicted. He didnā€™t know what he should say. Noel looked Gavin in the eyes as he wanted to get a feeling of trustworthiness from him. Noel felt warm and at ease when he looked into Gavinā€™s inviting eyes, he felt comfortable placing his trust in Gavin. Noel came closer to the glass of the tank.

ā€œIā€™m 19 human years old. My father is a merman. Iā€™m a full blooded merman and Iā€™m very happy to be one. He just looks like the humans do. He knows how to walk on legs almost like itā€™s easy! I wish I could walk on legs as good as he can. Ibuki is really good at it too. I donā€™t know how you do it. Feet hurt so much when walking, fins are much simpler. Please keep my dadā€™s secret. The humans donā€™t know that heā€™s not human. He never harms anyone.ā€ Noel pleaded. He didnā€™t know what would happen if his father was caught. Noel imagined that it wouldnā€™t be good.

Noel thought about the time he went dancing at the human club once. It was the night he met Ibuki. Noel loved the human club and wanted to go once more. He remembered dancing with Ibuki or at least trying to dance with Ibuki (Noel moves clumsily on human legs). ā€œGavin youā€™re very handsome. Do you know how to dance? I would imagine Gavin looks good dancing. Please could you take me someday? I wish to learn how humans dance? Itā€™s not as nice looking with finsā€¦ā€ Noel said excitedly. He was quite impulsive. Noel had begun to treat Gavin as if the two were good friends, dropping all of his apprehensions.

Ibuki had saw Noelā€™s capture and unfortunately couldnā€™t stop it. He needed to sneak into the colony and try to find Noel. ā€œThere is no way Iā€™d let my friend get gutted by those savages!ā€ Ibuki thought. He raced to the usual port of the colony that he entered into often. The security in that port was the most lax there. He entered the colony fully clothed, a magically granted ability that merpeople aquired with the proper training. He needed to find Noel, and the first place that Noel would likely be taken would be to the labs for testing. He didnā€™t have clearance into the lab building so heā€™d have to figure out a way to sneak in. Ibuki was tough but there was no way heā€™d be able to strom the building. This wasnā€™t going to be easy.

ā€œI should tell Oliver. But perhaps Iā€™ll wait. If I can save Noel first, I needenā€™t worry his father.ā€ Ibuki thought to himself. He then set out toward Beckman labs to find Noel.

Gavin Beckman

Despite Gavin's feelings, he was as bound as his father to do the government bidding. His father had tried time and time again but he was discovered and now having his actions watched by Kenji. The labs were supposed to be a place where discoveries are found and developments are made and tested, but instead of the lab rats testing future development, it seemed that the scientists themselves had ironically became lab rats to do what they are told. Since finishing school, he had worked hard with his father to be a food scientist in the pursuit of knowledge, but instead it seemed the government was more interested in the merfolk and having the labs work with the Colonial Defence Force. The Colonial Defence was also another body that had ended up doing more than they originally intended, as Ashley grew up to be in the military, only to find himself in the navy and becoming a marine hunter like Evan. Like him and his father, they were of course following orders.

The question was how long they would listen to orders for, as before they were to capture them, but now they were instructed to not test him but prepare him to be used for Kyle's personal use. Gavin agreed with Evan when he spoke out asking what personal use meant, as the labs were not a pet shop or kennels and nor were the merfolk pets, they were subjects or at least supposed to be subjects for the pursuit of knowledge. It seemed that the Colonial Board was losing their way however and this concerned Gavin, as well as how long he could keep this up. Afterall, his father, Evan and Ashley were all strong but all this got to Gavin and he could only take so much.

"Nice to meet you Gavin...Gavin...what a nice name. Noel likes the name Gavin", he heard Noel say which made him smile. Even in imprisonment and being in a place he hated, he seemed to not forget his manners and not forget to show respect which those outside of the cage had not forgotten. Perhaps Kenji and Kyle needed some 'cage time' to learn respect, but nevertheless, he couldn't help but have the inner desire that he could help him, even more so when he begun to sink sadly towards the bottom of the tank which he blocked from his vision with the help of his clipboard, even more as he heard Noel feel assured that he was not to worry as he would protect him. The question, was how? as there was only so much that he could do for him in the labs under the watchful eye of the government and not wishing to get father into trouble.

What made matters worse was that he did not have much time with him being prepared to move to Kyle MacLachlan's place for unknown reasons. Gavin hoped that a solution could be made, but if they could not change the Colonial Board which was so determined to capture these merpeople and now interested in acquiring them as pets, then the remaining solution was to gather support and hopefully bring about the end of the war so they'd be no need for capturing the merpeople and they could be free, much like what occurred when the slave trade was abolished centuries past for the treatment of other humans based on the color of their skin, and now the problem seemed to occur again because they were different. He truly did wish for there to be change but could he really do it, as he thought about such in his mind with his head down, once again defended with his clipboard before looking towards Noel once again as Noel looked back at him, Gavin attempting to hide how he felt.

"I'm 19 human years old", Noel explained so there certainly was not a case to argue that they were keeping someone too young, such that Gavin could of guessed with his defined features and how distinct such features were, not only evident in his facial features but also that of his exposed chest. Noel was only a year older than him, and here he was trapped away from his loved ones, such that Gavin could only imagine if this situation was the other way round, except that Gavin's features would not be so sharp nor would he have Noel's looks which had immediately caught the eye of the staff from Niles' bet. Niles liked to think that he was 'it' though from where Gavin was standing, it was not true.

Despite the situation Noel faced, he spoke so calmly as if he didn't have a worry in the world when it was in reality the opposite, no doubt taking comfort that he would protect him. There was no way he could let him down now, but Gavin was hardly strong enough, being muscle was Ashley's forte but he had gone off as security. Speaking of security, Noel spoke about his father looking like a human and walking like a human. Being aware of such information certainly raised a cause of concern to be a security issue to be investigated, though if things were ever to improve between mankind and the merpeople, it had to start with taking risks which Gavin was preparing himself for as he felt as if he was talking to a friend when Noel spoke so openly and even humoring him when he spoke of fins being simpler than legs and the fact Noel stressed his dad doesn't harm anymore, looking into his eyes he believed him.

"Gavin you're very handsome. Do you know how to dance? I would imagine Gavin looks good dancing", Noel commented, causing Gavin's cheeks to heat up and giving a chuckle to hide embarassment, even if it was only Noel who was there to see but preferably he would not like to be so readable and instantly react in such a way. He was another guy for goodness sake and he was probably just complimenting him generally, so he shouldn't be acting in such a way. "Thanks...", attempting to laugh it off, "though I have not danced much myself personally, never had much need to if I am honest with you, I am just into my work too much", before looking back down at his clip-board as he returned to his console to check his readings. to take notes, before speaking his mind also, "It is all starting to get a bit much if I am honest, I never thought when I started that I'd be doing all this and having your people hunted down like dogs. I love finding out about new things but not like this and now I am conflicted whether to help you or not as helping you would not help my father....".

Of course Gavin had already made his mind and had begun tapping into the system so that their conversation could not be heard while also attempting to block camera footage. It was a risky plan he had in mind, but he couldn't leave Noel in there or leave Noel to Kyle either. His father would understand but right now was the best time while everyone else was busy with the leak. Sure Gavin was determined to help, but at the same time he would be as hunted as the merpeople should he be found out, where would that leave father and Evan and Ashley. Nevertheless, he still had someone while Noel had no one, as tears begun staining his face as he thought about what he was doing, as if trying to tell him not to, but his convictions were high as the water level in the tank began to drop, before being replaced with air to help adjust Noel to the human environment.

Once cameras were down, regardless of his tear-stained face, he approached the tank, placing his hands on the sides as he looked into Noel's magnetic eyes, "I'm helping you get out of here. Just do everything I tell you and I'll protect you like I promised, okay? The tank will lift once the air cycle is complete, so am I understood?", sounding more like Ashley now to the giving of orders, but such was needed when it was only a matter of time when his tapping would be discovered. Thankfully he had been bouncing to an external source, but response teams would be sent in here also who Gavin did not wish to see.

"Thanks...", Gavin replied attempting to laugh it off, "though I have not danced much myself personally, never had much need to if I am honest with you, I am just into my work too much", before looking back down at his clip-board as he returned to his console to check Noelā€™s readings. Noel couldnā€™t help giggling at Gavinā€™s shy response to Noelā€™s inquiry regarding dancing. Noel began to feel that Gavin was indeed a shy person.

Gavin continued, "It is all starting to get a bit much if I am honest, I never thought when I started that I'd be doing all this and having your people hunted down like dogs. I love finding out about new things but not like this and now I am conflicted whether to help you or not as helping you would not help my father....".

Noel noticed Gavin ā€˜s cheeks were beginning to become stained with tears. Noel felt his own heart beat increase in pace. He was drawn to this human and Noel wanted nothing more than to embrace Gavin. The water level in the tank began to lower and the air pressure changed. Noel looked confused, was Gavin setting Noel free? The water was now completely drained in the tank and Noel sat at the bottom on the cold wet tank floor. Without the water Noel felt considerably weighted. His tail was not a very light thing, no mermaid or mermanā€™s tail was.

Gavin approached the tank, placing his hands on the sides as he looked into Noel's eyes, "I'm helping you get out of here. Just do everything I tell you and I'll protect you like I promised, okay? The tank will lift once the air cycle is complete, so am I understood?"

Noel stared back at Gavin in awe. Gavin was truly risking a lot by helping him and Noel knew it. Noel shook his head to signify that he understood. ā€œOkay. I will.ā€ Noel replied meekly. Noel was a bit nervous but Gavinā€™s gaze helped to steady Noelā€™s rapidly beating heartā€™s pace considerably. The tank finally lifted. They didnā€™t have much time. Noel tried to remember his training so that he could levitate, it was all coming to him just fine. However, Noel was more concerned about how much energy he had. He was still tired from all the struggling he had done while fighting earlier. He began to rise from the floor of the tank and glided above the ground as if he were swimming in the water.

Noel smiled once more as he approached Gavin and opened his arms to hug him. Noelā€™s embrace was gentle and surprisingly warm for a being that lived in the water. ā€œThank you.ā€ Noel whispered as he embraced Gavin. He let go of the young man and looked about the room. He knew that Gavin was making a sacrifice to save him but Noel was determined to help Gavin too. ā€œI donā€™t want you to get into trouble for helping me. If I had escaped on my own then it wouldnā€™t look as if you set me free . That way you wonā€™t get into trouble.ā€ Noel looked up at the tank behind him and had an idea. ā€œI know what to do. Please lower the tank down again, then cover your ears as tightly as you can okay?ā€

After Gavin followed the mermanā€™s instructions. Noel focused his voice so that he could create a sharp high pitched sound that shattered the glass of the tank. Noel wasnā€™t able to do so from inside the tank as he could have popped his own eardrums due to the bouncing of the high pitched sound off of the glass while he was trapped inside. With the tank glass shattered now it was time to make it look like there were signs of a struggle. Noel turned to Gavin and apologized. ā€œSo sorry but I want it to look like you hadnā€™t betrayed your job.ā€ Noel then raised his tail and swung it full force at the control council placing a large gash in it upon impact. Noel huffed and puffed, he was quite tired, he plopped down onto the floor. As Noel huffed and puffed he turned to look at his tail as he lay on the floor. ā€œSorry Gavin, Iā€™m too tired to levitate for much longer, Iā€™ll have to walk on legs. Just give me one more moment, itā€™ll be quick I promise.ā€ Noel said, and he waved his hand over his tail and fins as he generated heat to dry it out. After a few seconds his tail began to transform to legs.

[Noel upon transformation appeared partially clothed minus the shoes. See the picture below:]

Image

Noel looked tired as he breathe heavily. A proud smile crept across his face as he looked down at his legs. He tried to stand up but his legs trembled a little. Before Noel could fall he caught hold of Gavinā€™s shoulders. Now steadied, looking trustingly into Gavinā€™s eyes, Noel said quietly. ā€œSorry Gavin Iā€™m ready now. Iā€™m a little tired and Iā€™m not so skilled at walking. Can you help me walk?ā€ Noel asked innocently.

Ibuki approached Beckman Labs carefully scoping out the area. It was a well guarded building, no doubt due to it being under government supervision. ā€œThis wonā€™t workā€¦ā€ Ibuki thought to himself. He decided that heā€™d have to obtain Oliverā€™s help after all if he was to save Noel. ā€œHold on my friend. Iā€™m on my way to help I promise.ā€ He said to himself.

The colony was bustling with people out in the streets, going about their day. Ibuki remembered where Oliver lived and ran as fast as his feet could carry him to his destination. Ibuki about 30 minutes later arrived at Oliverā€™s home in the colony. It seemed Oliver was not home at the moment so he had to wait for his return. Ibuki simply waited outside the house on the front porch for Oliverā€™s return. After a short while Oliverā€™s car pulled up in front of the house and out stepped the stylishly dressed man.

Oliver recognized Ibuki immediately. A concerned look took over his face. ā€œIbuki Nakoma what brings you here? Is Noel alright?ā€ Oliver said as he approached Ibuki who was seated outside of the front door of the house. Ibuki stood and let out a deep sigh.

ā€œNoel has just been captured by hunters and brought to the Beackman Labs! I tried to stop it from happening but I was too far away to catch up with them before they entered the colony. We need to get to him fast! I couldnā€™t breach such tight security on my own.ā€ Ibuki explained, his face baring an intense stare.

Oliverā€™s heart began to beat swiftly. He couldnā€™t bear the thought of anything having happened to his son. He clutched his forehead with his hand and paced back and forth. ā€œH-How did this happen?ā€ Oliver asked anxiously. He stopped pacing and stared at Ibuki intensely.

ā€œI saw him close to the dome. I think he was staring inside when the two humans cornered him. They roped him with a cable and dragged him into the colony. Youā€™ve got to help me get into that lab!ā€ Ibuki would do anything to save his friend.
