Description

Vermuse
"Oh God, I just want to be Captain Jean-Luc Picard"

Image
Name
Marvin Vermuse

Age
36

Appearance
"Heheh, well we all know I ain't no Captain Kirk, heheh."

5'6", 345lbs, Pretty much your average Joe, Vermuse is not a lady killer.

He sweats a lot, and he speaks too quickly, often fumbling over his words. His voice is a little too high to be masculine (see Cameron's voice from Modern Family--he begins on the right), and he has never looked good with hair, no matter how it laid it always made his face look fatter, so he shaves his head. He is experimenting with facial hair at the moment though. The rest of his body is hairy in all the wrong places, so he generally wears long sleeves and pants, no matter the weather. Whenever he isn't at work, he wears one of his star trek shirts--either a replica from the show or a casual t-shirt (a long sleeve beneath it if it is short-sleeved) with some sort of star trek reference on it (something like "Live long and proper" with Spock sporting a top hat and elegant mustache whilst drinking tea). His shoulders aren’t particularly wide, nor his arms muscular. He has a sniveling laugh, bushy eyebrows, and Terrible posture, he shuffles and waddles when he walks. He knows he is unattractive, but he is still insecure about it. He is aware that he's overweight, and though he pretends to not be sensitive about it, he is. Soft and pudgy all over, he sports a large belly. His jeans fit right below his stomach, so if his shirt were to rise up, it is not unheard of to see crack. He wheezes when he walks for too long, and he wears unfashionable and dirty sneakers. He sort of pants even when sitting, he has beady blue eyes that are always watery. They are kind eyes, even if they are nervous around new people. He has a snub nose and a large double chin and pudgy fingers that make it impossible to use the new phones, so he has a very old outdated phone with large buttons. He generally doesn't smell pleasant, and makes strangers uncomfortable with his large size. He get's stared at a lot, but he pretends not to notice. He has always been big, as long as he can remember, even pictures from before his earliest memories, in kindergarten, he was the fat kid in class. Being large and unpopular and awkward has been with him his entire life, though he has never gotten used to it; It always bothers him. Though from looking at his parents, even if he lost the weight he probably wouldn't be any Captain Kirk. And then with his crippling social skills…there was really no point in even wondering about it.

Likes
"You could probably just look at the shirt, heheh. I mean, I have other interests too. I keep an online blog. I like my cat, he's a feisty one, heheh. He doesn't really have anyone else other than me though." ((Really, he wants too live a quiet life. He wishes there was less discord in the world, and wishes to fall into monotony for the rest of his life, thriving on the comforts of familiarity. Naturally, he loves Star Trek, but he loves speaking with people as well. Simple, civil conversations mean the world to him. He enjoys things like intelligent or philosophical conversations over sandwiches and coffee. He likes the rain because it causes most people to stay inside, where they are safe these days. He imagines that it is washing away all the blood and trauma into the cluttered gutter. Perhaps one day the world will flood while everyone sleeps, and they'll all drift away on their mattresses to a newer, happier place.

Dislikes
"I don't really like it when other people are mean to each other. I know it sounds silly, but it happens a lot these days, ya know? It doesn't really make sense. Oh, and that one quote that Picard says. What is it, gimme a second. It's ahhh… it's ahhh.. Yea, here we go: 'It is possible to make no mistakes and still lose.' Deep, huh? I wish it weren't true, though I love Picard." ((He dislikes simple things like violence and commotion. His appearance and how people react to it. Change, bright sunlight, manuals, speaking in front of large groups,

Personality
"I'm a pretty easy going guy, you know. I just go with the flow" ((You realize, Vermuse, that only dead fish go with the current?)) "That's not what I meant. I'm more like a rock that sits at the bottom of the river." ((Slowly eroded over time?)) "Man, why are you giving me a hard time?" ((I'm sorry, I'm sorry...continue)) "*huffs* We all get eroded over time, anyway. That's what life is. You can't help that."
((In reality, all he ever wanted was to be left alone with his trinkets. His collector's items and memorabilia. Perhaps he fantasized about getting his hands on Dr. Helen Noel,)) "OH GOD" ((or T'Pol. A humble man, of varying interests. He had a pet fish, named Spock who recently made the great trip down the toilet. And he has an ugly cat who always hides under his bed named Treble. Treble always shakes and glares, his hair is scratchy and patchy and there is a kink in his tail as well as a chunk missing from one ear. His yellow eyes make him look like he has jaundice. Vermuse has a good heart, though sometimes fear gets the best of him. He is the type that will shout out "Hey you" to stop a mugging. He won't back down, he already gets beat up on a weekly basis so he isn't scared of that anymore, not when the life of someone else is in danger. Nor does he fear death, because he doesn't attach much value to his life anyway, a sad realization. However, he isn't one who will stop a car from being stolen or a house from being robbed. He might stare as if he means to, but in the end, fear overrides the importance of protecting the city. He is clumsy, but means well. His entire being lights up when someone sincerely talks with him or seems interested in things he has to say. He is nervous and fidgety, passive. Vermuse is socially awkward, though this doesn't stop him from talking to others, though both parties feel uncomfortable, he feels a need to at least try and make human contact once in a while. Goofy when you get to know him, he's not that painful to have around all the time. He has never really considered becoming a true vigilante hero, despite the fact that he's known about his power for a while now.

Relationships
"What, like a girlfriend? *snorts* You could say I'm between girlfriends at the moment. I had this one girlfriend that I met at a convention a long time ago, but the distance really just tore our love apart."((What about your friends?))  "I have a few friends. You know Ludis and I are very close. I like to think we're very close. Maybe he feels different, but I'd say he's my best friend; he knows me most. I actually met him, you know it's a funny story, I met him at this--this carnival thing heheh. He just came right up to me, and I was this absolute mess heheheh cotton candy sticking to my face and stuff. That was before I had a beard too, so it must have looked soooo bad. He's always been this crazy kid. I really like him; more people should be just like him. He shines so bright…and I think other people shine a little brighter when they're around him. Don't tell him I said so, I don't want him to think I'm weird or anything. That would be terrible.

((Anyone else?))
Well, I don't even know if she counts as a friend, she's more of a mentor than anything, but there is this girl named September. We talk sometimes. I really have to just stand back in aww of her whenever I think of her. She really knows how to put away that Thai food heheheh. Yea, she's real cool. She actually saved me from being mugged once, you know that? She said she didn't mean to, but I'm glad she did. And she's so smart! And great on the violin, AMAZING really. She's an inspirational person; really help me establish a sense of self-worth, you know?

((Other friends?))

You know, there is Carl and Wayne, we met online in a chat forum on Star Trek: The original series. Carl and I actually hated each other at first. He thought that Data essentially filled the same role as Spock in the later series, and was even the better version. But really they were entirely different, becau--"
((Do they know about your power?))  "Well, no…we're friends though. All you need is a few really good friends, and that's what I have. What's that one quote? From Dr. Love all those years ago? Something like "A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world." I think it is fitting." ((That's really sweet))  "*blushes and gets flustered* "Yea it's no big deal" ((What about your family?))  "I still talk to my mom almost every day. I mean, how can I not? I live with the woman, heheheh. But yea, we're pretty close. And there is my cousin Penny. She has powers too! She's an artist!"

Power
"I got this pretty cool power, I guess you could call it a super power, where I can make all the props from the best show ever created (heheh) work as if they were real life. None of my friends can do it, of course, because I'm the one with Super Powers. But god, if I could chose between having super powers and living for real in the future, I mean, I never wanted to be a super hero. Be bit by a radioactive spider or anything like that. It's too stressful, I'm no good at it. Even if I were in Star Trek, like my dream, I'd still be that one guy in the red shirt. You know…the one who always dies." ((…)) "Don't look at me like that, I'm not being morbid, I'm being honest. I'm just no good at anything." ((That's not true. Every excuse is an option to fail, my friend)) "See, what's that supposed to do besides make me feel like crap?" ((You're testy today…)) "Well you're asking all these questions that are all personal and stuff. The questions alone are enough to make me feel like crap, you don't got to judge me on top of it all." ((…I'm sorry, again. Really though, I am. So back to your powers…which props can you make work?)) "Hrm. All of them. The phasers and weapons and all the super nifty gadgets like the telecommunicaters and stuff. It's pretty cool. I can show you some time if you want." ((Does it work with like…other props? Like from Star Wars? Could you use a light saber?)) "No, no, just Star Trek." ((Alright))

Equipment
((The various props from the show he's collected over the years, "wasting" every cent he's ever earned on them, lord knows he doesn't pay rent or for groceries. Various phasers with settings from stun to kill to disintegrate. He even had one that was outlawed in the Federations for including settings that allowed for slow, excruciating methods of kills that tore the body apart from the inside, though he'd never use it. He also owns a variety of melee weapons from knives to katanas to strange weapons called bat'leths that appeared on the show. Though he has no idea how to use any of them, naturally. He has a Tricorder, a device could detect particles in the air, life signs. He even has the original set from the starship, transporter included. So he has the ability to essentially teleport…as long as he does so from the safety of his garage. He can use this to grab someone from the city and bring them to his garage as well, if he ever had their location.))

Strengths
"What am I good at? I pretty much know every line ever uttered in Star Trek. I guess you can say I'm patient, because I've seen all of the series at least six times. And I am dedicated. I am loyal, even in the face of prosecution. " ((While he isn't good at conventional things, his heart is in the right place. Infallibly noble, he always tries to do what is "right," a deeply rooted sense of morality he achieved from watching Star Trek. He is also incredibly accurate with his phaser pistols, practicing with them since he was a child. He is also stubborn as hell, and would rather die than betray his cause))

Weaknesses
"Puppies and kittens? Heheheh, I don't know. Pretty much everything if you ask me. I'm no good. No good at all." ((Low self-esteem has riddled his being from a very young age. He is easily intimidated, and he is a terrible liar (though you'll never get him to admit what the real story is if he doesn't want to tell you). He is in terrible shape, and a novice--)) "heh, novice at best--" ((in hand to hand combat, though he does learn quickly.))

Home
"I live with my Ma, over in the other side of town. It's not the nicest place, but it's also not the worst." ((He lives with his mother. His room is littered with the devices, and he has his "man-cave," aka the garage, where he keeps the bigger things. ))

History
"Well, I was born and raised here, heheh, nothing really exciting to that. Even with me living here, you probably never noticed me, unless you were picking on me and my dweeb friends. Raised by a single mom, I went to public school, I had my group of friends. We got picked on by other kids, ya know, but it never got to us. We were in our own little world. My friends from high school went on with their lives, and we drifted apart. I got a desk job, eventually met Carl and Wayne online. I dated a bit here and there, but I can't say my hearts ever been broken or anything like that. Then I got a different desk job working at the hospital and went on with my life. ((But what about your powers? When did you realize you had them?)) "Oh, well, about when I was fifteen. That's when I got my first genuine prop from the show, no more kids toys. At first, I thought it really worked, it was one of the phasers which I had set, of course, to stun. I able to stun one of my buddies from school, which was awesome. However, when other people used it, it didn't work. It was pretty self-explanatory." ((Anything else?)) "What can I say? My life has not been that exciting. No one talks to me, nothing ever happens to me. I get mugged a lot on the streets, but that isn't really exciting, it happens to everyone. Especially when you look like me. What do you want me to say?" ((I was just asking. Very good Vermuse. I think we have enough.))
