Setting
An apartment complex that looks a little too armed for something that is supposed to be a peaceful organization based around the rights of augmented individuals. 5 stories high and smack dab in the middle of the slums, the Augmented Refuge is not the first place you think of when dealing with the CAI, or at the very least, not the ideal place you would believe themselves to base out of. The building itself is in a state of disrepair, obviously needing more than just a coat of paint and a couple of nails. There’s been evidence of fire, integral damage and more, yet the apartment complex continues standing strong. If one looks closely, weapons can be seen hiding just inside the frames of certain windows, while armed augmented individuals patrol around the outside of the building. While not every room is used, it is considered a sanctuary for the augmented who, for whatever reason, have been forced into poverty or homelessness. As such, there is a communal feeling that can be seen, with kids often stating that they have multiple parents or siblings as they do their best to have normal lives under the watchful gaze of the CAI.
Naturally, this is not an easy thing for the SCPD and MCU to take, even if the reasoning for such a location and behaviour has not only been explained but fully justified. The Purist Movement won’t come this far down into the slums, for even they have the brains to know that their bigotry would immediately get them shot where the rejects and downtrodden tread. However, this doesn’t give them the right to basically declare martial law around their own piece of territory, considering that they are only leasing the building from a third party. Unfortunately for the people who protect this city, the CAI is protected by Sonder City Laws of protection and prevention. So long as CAI doesn’t use these military means to expand outwards or otherwise damage property or people unprovoked, the SCPD and MCU are frozen in place. They can’t take the building or guns without causing an international incident, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t keep an eye on it. On a daily basis there are no less than two SCPD cruisers in the area, constantly watching for threats and people who would attempt to provoke the CAI. Despite the fact that the apartment complex is filled with augmented families, including children, the law stands ready to storm the building at a moment’s notice.
