"I may not look like much, but you'd be surprised what I can do with this ax."
Joanie's personality can be taken many different ways, it just depends on how much she likes whomever she happens to be talking to. If she likes you, she can be funny, sweet, and kind, but if she doesn't, she is rude, smart mouthed, and sarcastic. Generally, Joanie likes to keep a positive attitude, and does not let the Lyysavirus keep her from seeing the glass half full, rather than half empty. She is out-going, and enjoys meeting new people, but she is very cautious.
She understands that anyone infected by the Lyssavirus is still a person, so it hurts her a bit to harm anyone, even if it's only to protect herself from becoming one of them.
Normally, Joanie carries an ax with her, but she also has a sub machine gun that she keeps in her back pack, as well as a first aid kit. She has several water bottles in her bag, along with a pack of cigarettes and a few lighters of various sizes. She has enough ammo to last her a while, but she tries not to use any of it.
Before the outbreak, Joanie had lived in Alaska with her parents, though several weeks before the first sighting of Lyssavirus B, she had flown to Chicago to help her sister, Megan, who was very close to being due. Joanie had watched the crash on the news, but had thought nothing of it, until she watched the passengers, what few had survived, furiously attack the paramedics and firefighters who had arrived on scene. From the window of the small, two bedroom apartment, she watched Megan get attacked by the monsters that had gotten off of the plane that day, and had vowed not to become one of them. That day, she'd gone to the gun store and bought her sub machine gun, and had taken an ax from the fire extinguisher area in an office building.
