Personaltiy:
Jessica is a fairly laidback soul and it takes a fair bit to really rile her up. She does get annoyed but few have ever seen her really lose her temper, and it's really not a pretty sight. She usually just goes with the flow and lets the majority decide the action, only digging her heels in when something is hugely important to her, and then she can turn into a stubborn little madam. Jessica rarely takes the role of leader, not liking to make the end decision, but if she has to step up to the plate, she will, particularly when people are taking too long to make their minds up.
Jessica is very careful with people's feelings, and tries to find the best way not to hurt anyone's feelings, even if that means her own get hurt. She hates to be the one to dish out the harsh home truths to people and usually just lets people get on with their own lives. Jess is a fiercely loyal friend and will always have your back in a fight unless she also likes the person you're fighting with, in which case, she will walk away and let you two figure it out, or someone else. She refuses to take sides amongst friends. It really is more trouble than it's worth. She tends to avoid arguments, but when she's in the wrong, she will apologise as soon as she can, sometimes, straight after the words have left her mouth. If she believes that the other person is in the wrong, she will hold a grudge until they've apologised and then, as far as she is concerned, that's the end of it. She can be the kind of person to give someone way too many second chances, but she does try to see the best in everyone, even if no one else can see it.
While she does try to give off a confident aura, Jessica isn't that confident. Not to say she's shy, because she isn't, she's just not that gregarious. She can be sociable, finding the light banter easy and is a very good bar maid for it, but she does like her own company from time to time. Also, she's never quite sure how to take a compliment, and generally just feels uncomfortable, smiles and says a polite 'thank you' even if she doesn't really believe it herself. She knows that she isn't a bad person, but she feels uncomfortable when people point out good things about her.
History:
Jessica grew up in the little village of Lanchester, just outside Durham with her two bothers, one older, one younger. Jessica was the quiet child of the family with a distinct flair for the creative. While her brothers were often found messing around on the village green, Jessica stayed at home with her vast collection of books, escaping the humdrum, if highly idyllic, village life. Jessica always enjoyed the trips into Durham, the city's impressive Cathedral and castle and little twisty lanes sparked her imagination and she would often create little stories in her head where the hero would use these little side alleys to make their daring escape from the villains. As she grew up, Jessica began to nurture a talent for writing. With her writing came a greater understanding of people, who they were, what made them tick, all that background noise that's never obvious.
At school, Jessica was fairly bright, able to switch her creatively inclined mind to the academic with little struggle, altough she did find most of her lessons dull. English was always her strongest subject and was the natural choice for her to study at university. Much to her mother's disappointment, who was adamant that Jess studied History, Jessica was studying English Literature and Creative Writing at Northumbria University before the demons arrived. Wanting to be indpendent of her family, she also began working part time at a nearby bar. Rather than finding the work dull, Jessica enjoyed it, finding a great deal of inspiration for her characters. Being hit on by drunk men did get a bit dull after a while though.
Jessica survived the demon attack by sheer luck. She had been visiting home for the weekend and had taken herself off to the Cathedral. She hid out in one of the dungeons in the cathedral, hoping and sort of praying that they wouldn't find her there and if they did, that death would be quick. She managed to keep her nerves steady and stay quiet while the scream echoed around the old building. She stayed down in the dungeons for a while trying to figureout what was happening, when she felt her mind jump. She could see herself looking down onto the river near the cathedral. Willing herself closer, she saw that her reflection was not her own but that of a small bird. The shock made Jessica jump back to her own body. Realising she hadn't heard any screams for a while, she pulled her nerves back together and ventured up to the surface, doing her best to ignore the bodies around her. That's when she met the mysterious man, wandering aimlessly. And the rest, as they say, is history
