When Order 66 was enacted, Rinexia had been returning to Coruscant after her last mission with her Padawan. It had been a mission that had kept them away for the Jedi Order for nearly five months as they had attempted to work out a negotiation between two races that dwelled upon a now lost planet. They had been successful and were ready to return to their home. They knew nothing of the atrocities that were taking place during their journey back. They landed and had been able to make their way to the Jedi Temple without crossing anyone. It had been something that had struck both Jedi as strange at the time.
Regardless, they had continued until they had reached their destination. It was upon entering the large building that Rinexia realized what had happened. Each and every Jedi that had been there was no more. The two were discovered shortly after and barely escaped. Rinexia knew that they were being chased, that the Imperials wanted them gone. The two had been able to lose the ships that had followed them but Rinexia knew that they would continue to search for them. It was then that the woman had made a quick stop at one of the closer planets. She had left her student there, giving him strict orders as to what to do.
It would be easier for the young one to blend in than her. They had seen her in the Temple and barely anything of the child. It had been then that the woman had jumped onto a transport that had taken her to Osarian. Rinexia immediately had taken to hiding within a rather large forest that was located near one of the beaches that she had visited so long ago. It was dark and as far as she'd seen over the past few years, there were very few people that actually ventured within. The woman had run out of provisions five months earlier, forcing her to scavenge the forest for a means of survival. As such, she had lost quite a bit of weight and she was beginning to feel the effects. Rinexia had removed her usual Jedi attire and now wore an outfit that aided her in staying unseen. She did, however, still keep her lightsaber at her side though it was hidden from view.
She went about her day, as usual, gathering and simply trying to survive. It was around dusk when she suddenly heard a snap nearby. The woman immediately froze, straining. She allowed herself to reach out with the Force, trying to locate whatever had made the noise. She was unable to pick up the cause until it was almost too late. In her weakened state, she was slipping. Storm Troopers who had been patrolling the area had caught sight of movement and had moved deeper within the forest to see what it had been. They yelled at her to stand so that they could figure out why she was there. That meant that they didn't know what she was. Yet.
It was only a matter of time before they realized who they were dealing with. Instead of complying, Rinexia turned and took off running through the forest. Immediately, the Troopers followed. Within moments they began using their blasters in an attempt to get her to stop. Instead, the woman pulled out her lightsaber and blocked the attacks. For a long time, Rinexia thought that she would be able to lose them. However, she was caught by surprise as the group that had been following her had sent for help. The second group ambushed her. This blocked her current route.
They threatened her, though the woman knew that they would kill her either way. The only reason she was still alive was that they needed to know who she was so that they could mark her off of their list. She did the only thing that she could. Fight. Normally, she would have had no trouble. Now, however, she could tell that she wouldn't last long. It took only a few moments before her lightsaber had been knocked out of her hand and one of the men had struck her hard enough to land her on the ground. Not a second later, the same Trooper placed his foot on her left hand and crushed it. Rinexia cried out in pain at the unexpected feeling as her hand was broken.
She then used the Force to push the Troopers away from her and jumped up, taking off in a different direction as she used the Forced to pull her lightsaber to her right hand. She ran as fast as she could, hearing the blasts that were being shot her way. She was sure that she would meet her end. Rinexia was exhausted, starving, and in pain. As the forest grew darker, it was becoming harder for the Troopers to keep up with her. However, at the last second, a blast struck her right side, causing the woman to crumble to the ground. Pain seared up her side and she was certain that she was bleeding. The Troopers continued to look for her for some time before they finally gave up, having not seen her fall. They agreed on a different direction and headed away from her.
Rinexia was covered in mud as well as her own blood. She took a moment to inspect her wounds. Her side was bleeding fairly badly and her hand was a terrible red color though was beginning to turn more of a deep purple from bruising. She didn't have time to worry about any of that. She stumbled to her feet, hooking her saber to her side and making sure that her satchel was still on her form. She kept her Jedi robes within as well as a few items that she'd had with her when she'd arrived on the planet. The woman continued to walk in the direction that she'd been heading, soon emerging out of the forest. The Troopers where nowhere to be seen. However, she did see a rather small settlement within view.
She took a few steps before suddenly falling again. This time, however, she could not get up. This was it. Her end. If anyone found her they would turn her in. She closed her eyes as she fought sleep. It would likely be the last time that she would do such a thing. It took only a second as her eyes closed before she lost consciousness from her wounds and lack of nutrients.
When he had first had the section built on the front of house, the townsfolk of Home had complained that it was too sterile and gave them nothing comforting to look at. So he framed some of the crude drawings that some of town younglings had done and scattered them on the walls. He didn't know what was so comforting about a crudely drawn tree, but it seemed to make people happy. Maybe its because its actually a fathier - he didn't think it was polite to ask. He had gotten the idea on his own to get a fish tank and arrange the waiting room couches around it. With help from Dilo Gregaw, the town's best fisherman, he had managed to set up a nice little ecosystem in the tank, with several different species of fish swimming around. The younglings loved to come in and feed them. The clinic was arranged so that the waiting area was in the middle, with four beds in the corners of the room, with curtains for privacy. Each curtained room had a bed, an IV stand, a heart monitor, and a metal foot locker in case they needed to store any items. It wasn't the most high end, but it was better than nothing.
He grabbed a food replacement drink and a straw from his kitchen, and swung open his office door, which had Dr. Cademus Mardura written neatly and clearly on it, walked through the clinic and out onto the front porch. His mother sat in her chair, quiet and still as ever. She looked someone had torn the skin off a bigger person, and tried to fit it on a small skeleton. He put her tray up and put the drink on it, putting the straw between her lips. She started drinking immediately. She did very little to take care of herself, but at least she did that. "There's your dinner, Mom," he said to her as he started to wheel her back inside. "I'm going to put by a window in the living room so you can still watch the sunset." She gave no answer, or showed a spark of understanding, not that he expected one. He didn't know if she heard him, or actually looked at anything.
Just as he had gotten her through the front door, he heard a thunk on his porch stairs, he turned around and saw Jamicliff Muskem lying on his back on the ground. Based on the smell of him, he was already plowed. Cade rushed over to help him up, and the man mumbled, "Saw a woman sleeping by the forest."
Cade suppressed an eye roll as he helped the drunk man to his feet. "Does she know the half-fish woman who lives in the lake and blows you kisses?" he asked him sarcastically.
"It's true!" the man insisted. "You can see her from here!" He pointed in the direction behind them.
Sure enough, far away at the edge of the forest, Cade could see a shape lying motionless on the ground. His heart starting racing, and he pushed Mr. Muskem in the general direction of his house. "Go on home sir and go to bed." As the started hobbling away. Cade said to his back, "I'll take care of the woman."
"What woman?" was slurred behind him as Cade took off for the forest.
When he came across the unconscious body of a redheaded woman, he was alarmed to find that she was covered in blood. He found the source of the blood to be a wound on her right side. He put his arms around her to lift her up and carry her to his clinic, then felt a hard metal. He looked down and saw a lightsaber. He groaned inwardly. That meant one of three thing: she was a Jedi, or a Sith, or stole from one. None of those options meant good news for him, but his oath as a Medic, or his conscience, would let him leave her to die, so he carried her back to the clinic, using the backdoor so no one would see her.
It wasn't until after he had lain her down on the operating table that her left hand was swollen and bruised. Touching it, he discovered that it had been crushed, and winced. He didn't know how this happened, but she had really been put through the ringer. The first order of business had to be fixing her side, as she was still bleeding. He cut away her clothing so he could get to it, which was hard since it was covered in blood and muck, but after a little work the scraps of gross cloth was piled on the floor. He cleaned and disinfected the area thoroughly, then applied some kolto to the area. He had a moment of regret that he hadn't been able to go out and buy some bacta recently, the kolto would take longer to heal. He wrapped a bandage around her waist and outfitted her with a patient gown. Then he moved onto her hand, once again putting kolto on it, then wrapping it in a special bandage that hardened right away into a cast so she could move it.
When he was done, he carried her to one of the beds in the clinic. He noticed that she looked malnourished, so he hooked her up to an IV that would help replenish her body of crucial nutrients. He then clipped the heart monitor to her finger, and was satisfied when he heard the steady beeping. He changed out of his bloody doctor cloths, and put on a dark blue shirt and black pants. He moved his mother to her bedroom, and pushed the button that extended her mobile chair into bed. He put the bag the woman was carrying in the footlocker beside her, but locked away the lightsaber in the safe underneath his desk. He didn't know anything about her, and didn't want her getting any ideas about using it. He put a chair by the foot of her bed and sat down with his arms crossed. He didn't know how she was going to react when she woke up, and he wanted to be ready to restrain her if necessary.
Despite this plan, it didn't take long for him to nod off to sleep.
Once the pain had eased off, Rinexia's gaze suddenly fell to the figure at the end of the bed. A man sat there, clearly asleep. Suddenly, panic began to fill her. She was still in flight mode and waking up in strange surroundings was not helping. She looked down, seeing that she was no longer in the clothing that she'd had on earlier. Her supplies were missing as well as her weapon. Without thinking, the woman's right hand shot out. The action forced the sleeping man forcibly away from the bed. The woman was out of the bed in less than ten seconds, her gaze locked onto the stranger.
She had no idea who he was or if he was a threat to her. All that she knew was that she had missing time and was currently unarmed after having been chased throughout the forest. She was attempting to keep her feelings at bay though was finding it hard to do so. Such things would only lead her down a dark path that she had no intention of falling down. She reached out with the Force, feeling one other within the building. It struck her as odd that they had not come running at the sound. Rinexia's back was pressed as close to the wall as possible as she stood close to the IV stand.
"Who are you?" She asked suddenly, her voice giving away what she was feeling. She gave the man only enough time to answer her before she continued. "Why am I here?" She knew that she had reacted as someone who was about to be killed and she had no apology for that. The past few years had not been easy on her. She had suffered and went without. Worried about the young one that she'd sent from her side. She had to survive and find the child. She'd made a promise and this... man would not be the one to stop her.
It was as he spoke that she reached out with the Force as she tried to gauge his words. After the explanation, Rinexia visibly relaxed though just slightly. The pain was beginning to come back. She felt her way back to bed, allowing herself to gently sit down as she held her injured side. It was then that she realized that her hand had been bandaged as well. She was suddenly no longer looking at the man as she closed her eyes in pain. "Where are my things?" She asked, offering no information to the stranger. It mattered little that he'd treated her. If she was found she was as good as dead.
"You will please return them as I must leave. I cannot stay here." Her gaze suddenly found the man once again, watching him closely as she waited.
"Who are you?"
"Dr. Mardura." He stopped a few feet away from her, afraid getting any closer would set her off. When she demanded to know why she was where she was, Cade explained in great detail how he found her and treated her, hoping it would calm her down.
"Where are my things?" Cade thought
"Right in that metal box beside you. Except your weapon. I locked that away because I was afraid of how you react when you woke up, and I was right. With that things you could have hurt me, yourself, or my fish."
"You will please return them as I must leave. I cannot stay here."
His face remained neutral, he crossed his arms, and dared to take a few steps closer. "That's just foolish. You can't leave. One, your only clothes are dirty shreds, so all you have is that nightgown. Two, you're so badly injured you can't make a fist with your left hand and you have a constant pain in your side. So here's what's going to happen if you leave - you're going to be running from whoever is chasing you." He paused and looked her over. "Just a wild guess about that. In the middle of running, you'll bend over in pain, show your enemy you're most valuable assets, then either be killed or bleed out and die. Assuming you don't die of starvation first. I will get you your lightsaber if you promise not use it." He disappeared into his office, came back out with the saber and placed it on the bed beside her. He walked over to the front door and opened it. "Now, if you can walk at a brisk pace to this door and not so much as wobble or wince, then you'll probably be fine and can keep going." No part of him thought that feat was possible. "Or you can get back into bed, and I'll bring you a tray of breakfast."
He went into the back area that was his house, though you wouldn't know since it looked less lived in than the clinic. The only sign of habitation was the fully stocked kitchen. As he was cooking, he thought about his patient. He really didn't want this possibly dangerous very likely crazy woman anywhere near Home, and could lead definitely dangerous people to him, but it was his own personal rule that he would always help people in need, no matter who or what they were. Besides, she looked more like a mouse backed into a corner than a snake poised to strike. He fixed enough food for the both of them and brought her out a tray. "An egg with steamed vegetables, mixed fruit, and some juice, all in small portions so you don't get sick."
Rinexia had been in hiding for far too long to not understand what it meant if she were to go back into the wilds. However, she remained silent. There was really no point in arguing with the doctor. At least not right now. She allowed him to continue speaking. He did have valid points, but so did she. Suddenly, his words pulled her attention. "I will get you your lightsaber if you promise not use it."
It was something that she'd not expected. Doctor Mardura was gone only a moment before he'd returned with the weapon that Rinexia had been worried about. The man placed the weapon on the bed, next to the woman. She still remained silent, watching as the man opened the front door and continued speaking. "Now, if you can walk at a brisk pace to this door and not so much as wobble or wince, then you'll probably be fine and can keep going. Or you can get back into bed, and I'll bring you a tray of breakfast."
The man was gone after that and for a moment, the Jedi thought about doing as instructed. However, it just wasn't in her. As soon as he was farther back in the home, Rinexia was off of the bed once again. She began looking around, trying to figure out where the man had stashed her things. It took her only a few short moments to find the metal box that was nearby. She was quick to pull out her pack and pulled out the clothing that she'd refused to wear for so long. She had no choice now and needed to move quickly.
Rinexia pulled the gown off of her form and dressed in the outfit that she'd pulled out of the pack. She slipped on a pair of deep brown pants and the same black boots that she'd worn the day before. The pain in her side was still there though she attempted to ignore it as she moved suddenly, yanking the IV from her arm. She picked up her weapon, attaching it to her waist before she picked up the pack. The Jedi made her way over to one of the windows, sliding it open.
She hesitated only for a moment before she slipped out, landing on the ground. Pain shot up her side. She was very aware of every movement that she made. She rose slowly before moving as quickly as she was able. It didn't take her long before she had reached the forest edge. She stopped, placing her right hand against one of the trees for support as she tried to catch her breath. She knew that she had to move soon or the man would see her. After another moment, Rinexia pushed herself away from the tree, heading into the forest.
It was unlikely that the Troopers were still in the area. They had likely continued in the direction that they'd been headed in the night before. They would be back... but not for a while still and that was only if they'd shared their previous night with others. She moved, walking as she was unable to move much faster than that for the time being. She walked until she'd reached a rather large tree that was located no more than thirty minutes out from the small settlement. She stopped, looking up at the mass of green and brown that stood before her.
The woman used the Force and her right hand in order to climb the tree. It took longer than it normally would have but when she was at a high enough branch she leaned her back against the tree bough. She closed her eyes in pain, trying to ride out the waves of pain. She felt a bit better having moved a bit away from the settlement. She didn't want to put anyone in any sort of danger. She could only hope that the man would accept that she'd left and wouldn't pursue her.
He opened up her drink and put the straw to her lips. She did not attempt to drink it. "What's the matter?" No response. She had never done this to him before, and a thought occurred to him. "Don't tell me you disapprove?" Still no response, not that he expected one. He sighed and went back into the house. A few minutes later, he emerged with a satchel and wearing a brown jacket. He asked a neighbor to watch his mother while he took a walk in the woods, and set out to find the mysterious woman.
He was by no means a master tracker, but he had been dragged on enough hunting trips with the men in town to know what to look for. It took him about two hours of inspecting snapped twigs on the ground and the occasional red hair hanging from a low branch to find the woman sitting in a tree. Her new attire confirmed her Jedi status, but it didn't reassure him as much as he hoped it would. "Please don't run, I come with food and painkillers!" he called up to her, and held up his bag so she could see it. "I'm not going to force you to come back with me, I just want to talk, maybe come up with a compromise. I'll even come up to you." As a boy, he used to climb tall buildings all the time to avoid an arrest or a beating, so he figured it was about the same. He realized by the second branch that it was not.
He succeeded to climbing up to the branch beside hers, though halfway through his motivation was more pride, less wanting to help. But he settled down, and threw her his bag. "Now, I patched you up and gave back your lightsaber, I think that earns me a modicum of trust. How about some formal introductions. I'm Dr. Cademus Mardura, but since you seem to be a lady of few words, let's just go with Cade. So, what's your name, Lady Jedi?"
As the being moved closer to her location, Rinexia was able to pick up on the familiar energy. It was most definitely the doctor and that surprised her more than anything. Why had he followed her all the way out here? Surely he had more important things to do rather than chasing after a Jedi through the forest. She could try to run, to stay ahead of him... but there was a small part of her that was simply tired of the running, the hiding. So, she remained rooted to her seat and continued to rest.
The moment that the man was in view, Rinexia allowed her pale green eyes to focus on him as he approached the tree. He surely knew what she was now. There should be no question. Suddenly, the man called up to her as he came to a stop at the tree. "Please don't run, I come with food and painkillers! I'm not going to force you to come back with me, I just want to talk, maybe come up with a compromise. I'll even come up to you."
Rinexia eyed the bag that the man held up. He was nothing if not persistent. The tree was large and not the easiest to climb, even for one that could use the Force. She watched the man as she remained seated. She knew that he was struggling, though said nothing. Once the man had reached the branch next to her own, the Jedi tore her gaze from him. Her right hand reacted as he tossed the bag to her, catching it as she glanced his way. She gently lowered the bag as she eyed him as he spoke once again. "Now, I patched you up and gave back your lightsaber, I think that earns me a modicum of trust. How about some formal introductions. I'm Dr. Cademus Mardura, but since you seem to be a lady of few words, let's just go with Cade. So, what's your name, Lady Jedi?"
His words were true and she could not argue them. She'd not been the kindest to him though, in her defense, she wasn't used to being around others nor not being chased. Her silence was due to trying to find the words that he wanted to hear. She wasn't used to giving such information so freely anymore. "You are right... and I am sorry for acting the way that I did." She said softly as she suddenly gave the man her full attention. "You must forgive me... It has been a long time since I've had any sort of interactions with others." She bowed her head to him as a sign of deep respect.
She hesitated before allowing herself to raise her head, her eyes locked onto the man. "Thank you for tending to my wounds, Doctor." This was the most that she'd said in a very long time and she hoped that it wasn't something that the man was picking up on. Suddenly, she realized that she'd not asked his original question about her name. "My name is Rinexia Shrialla and I am a Jedi Knight." She had never cared for her first name and that was why she was refusing to give him that one. It was unlikely that he would ever find that out, at any rate. "You should not have followed me." She stated evenly. "If you were found aiding me in any way it would mean the end of you and those within the settlement." She said, hoping that he would understand why she'd left against his wishes, disregarded her condition.
Cade waved off her concern. "It's all part of the job. Besides, I couldn't just leave someone to die, no matter who they are."
"My name is Rinexia Shrialla and I am a Jedi Knight."
He already knew it, of course, but hearing it for sure was sobering, so schooled his features into a neutral expression.
"You should not have followed me. If you were found aiding me in any way it would mean the end of you and those within the settlement."
She was right. The Empire showing up to his doorstep was the last thing he needed. The thought to just give up and go back Home was very tempting, but if he just left someone to die when there was something he could've done, again, he wouldn't be able to live with himself. "Well, I have a problem with that. When I healed you, I used valuable medical supplies, and if you die, you're basically throwing away my credits. Which isn't ok. So, if you don't come back, I'm going to have to follow you around and change your bandages until you're completely healed. And I'm warning you, I'm hard to live with when I'm tired and hungry."
He sat back against the tree and made himself comfortable. "Or you can save yourself the pain, of which there would much of, and go along with my plan. You pretend to be a nurse I just hired to take care of my mother. That will explain your presence in Home. Mrs. Gregaw bought this gadget last year that changes her hair color whenever she wants. I'll borrow that for you so you don't stand out so much. And if anyone comes looking for you, I giant container full of SynthSkin I haven't found a use for. You can change your face, and they'll be on their merry way.
He opened his eyes and stared at her seriously. "How about it?"
Was he being serious? Although being around her was putting him in danger he just didn't seem to care. It was something that she wasn't used to and obviously didn't know how to handle. Cademus made himself comfortable before he continued.
How he'd come up with such a solid plan in such a short amount of time was impressive. It didn't change the fact that she worried about bringing misfortune to the man and the people that lived near him. Cademus seemed determined and very clearly wouldn't take no for an answer. It was easy to see that she was thinking about her options as she remained silent. "How about it?"
His question... the way he was looking at her... she knew that he would follow her until she was better. In truth, Rinexia couldn't find much to argue with him about. The woman opened the bag that the man had given her moments before and took some of the painkillers. "So long as you understand the dangers of what you are asking of me... I will return with you." She paused, looking out into the forest for a moment. It was peaceful save for the two of them sitting up in the tree talking. It was calming and the woman could almost forget the troubles that she currently had.
"Know that as soon as I'm healed I will be leaving." She said, making it clear to the man that though she appreciated his aide she knew that it was only a temporary relief from the horrors that had become the life of a Jedi. The pain in her side was beginning to subside and so Rinexia slowly stood on the branch. She would eat when they had returned to the man's home. Her eyes fell on him, a look of mischief suddenly shining within them. " However, I can't help but wonder how you will get out of this tree." The woman had slung the bag across her form in order to secure it before she moved, stepping off of the branch.
The drop was fairly fair and if she'd not been a Jedi there was no way that she could have done such a thing. Her falling form passed the branches and she landed on the ground in a crouch. She rose a bit more slowly than she normally would have, turning her gaze up to the doctor. She knew that he'd struggled to get to that branch and was curious how he would handle getting down. "I can come back up to rescue you... if you'd like." She called up in jest.
"Know that as soon as I'm healed I will be leaving."
Cade nodded in agreement. "That's a good call. This town is very boring and I'm sure you have pressing Jedi business to attend to." She suddenly got a mischievous look, and he narrowed his eyes in suspicion. What was she going to do now?
"However, I can't help but wonder how you will get out of this tree." He watched her jump down, gracefully, despite her injuries. She looked up at. "I can come back up to rescue you... if you'd like."
His cheek twitched despite himself. "That won't be necessary." He started the arduous journey down the tree, all the while fondly remembering a time when he wouldn't have given a flying porg about his patients running off and getting killed. After the third time he lost his footing and almost fell, he was sorely tempted to return to that way of thinking, but he eventually touched solid ground without incident. "Well, let's go Home before my ego completely evaporates."
When they reached the edge of the forest and could see the town, Cade said, "Welcome to Home! That's what the very practical locals call it. They say no one ever needed to call it anything else. The only activities to do here are fishing, gossiping, and Sabacc."
His clinic was on the outskirts of Home, so it was the closest building to them. As they got closer, he said, "You might want to wait while I get rid of my neighbor."
Cade escorted his neighbor out of his house, careful to keep her facing the opposite direction Rinexia was in. He told her that he was getting an assistant to help with his mother coming in tomorrow, and because he needed time to get ready for her, then time to train her, he told her to tell everyone not to come in unless they really needed him. When she was gone, he gestured for Rinexia to come inside.
His words brought a small smile to her face. She allowed the man to take the lead, falling into place a few steps behind him. The trek back to town seemed to take much less time that it had taken to get to the tree. There was silence until they had come to the view of the settlement. "Welcome to Home! That's what the very practical locals call it. They say no one ever needed to call it anything else. The only activities to do here are fishing, gossiping, and Sabacc."
It was easy for Rinexia to see that this was a simple place. She'd not needed Cademus to tell her so. However, she allowed the man to say what he wished. They continued walking until they neared the clinic. The man told her to wait before he moved and saw his neighbor off. Once the woman was gone, Cademus gestured for Rinexia. She moved, entering the building.
It was strange entering in such a normal manner. It had been some time since she'd just walked into a building. It was an odd feeling. She almost longed for those times... the things that she'd taken for granted. "I may still be weak... but I could have hidden from her." She paused, clearly hesitating in what she was telling the man. It was as if she wasn't sure whether or not to continue. She suddenly turned away from the man. "I should have been a Master by now. With the fall of the Jedi... that is the only reason that I'm still a Knight. As such... I am able to bend the Force more so than others."
She turned her gaze back to the man. "But thank you." She could feel the presence of who could only be the man's mother. "I will need different clothes if you're intent on me staying. Otherwise, your plan will not work. I have a few credits that I can give you." Her current outfit stood out. It would tell any looking at her that she was a Jedi. She was silent, allowing the man to speak. She had more than a few credits but she had to ensure that she had enough in case she needed to get off-world quickly.
"If you'll tell me how to care for your mother, I can see to her while you are gone." She said, eyeing the man. Though she was still injured, Rinexia knew that she could tend to the woman. It would give her time to eat and to see what this man expected in return for his kindness.
Cade nodded. You'll have to forgive my ignorance on your Order, I don't know very much about you. I lived not far from the temple when I lived on Coruscant, but I just never paid much attention to them." He crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, then met her eyes with a steady and dead serious expression. "But you're right. You're a warrior and I shouldn't treat you like a complete invalid."
"I will need different clothes if you're intent on me staying. Otherwise, your plan will not work. I have a few credits that I can give you."
Cade knew his mother would be ashamed if she knew how long he considered the offer of her credits. He did exactly make a lot in this town, and it was very tempting to take it. But someone can use up their credits really fast when they're on the run. The right corner of his mouth lifted, in what was probably the biggest smile he'd given since he'd move to this town. I'll just put it on your tab. You can pay me back after the Empire is gone and the Jedi are back on top." Not that he was going to hold his breath on that one.
"If you'll tell me how to care for your mother, I can see to her while you are gone."
He shrugged and looked over at his mother. He had put her in front of a window and put a couch beside it so him or someone else could watch the outside with her. "She doesn't need anything done right. If she looks like she's dying, there's probably not a lot a we can do for her. My biggest concern is to make sure she's not alone. Other than that, you can talk to her. She won't respond, but she's really good at keeping secrets. And I'll tell you what I tell everyone else - call her Mrs. Wilsea. Being called 'Mardura' might be the thing that kills her." He then walked out the door to get what was needed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He came back some time later with the hair color changing device, and white short sleeved dress-robe that tied in the front. He placed the items next to Rinexia. "Its supposed to be one size fits all, and I hope its true. Also, the guy I bought it from boasted that it was made with a material that's 'just like silk'. I'm not used to buying women's clothing, so I just picked out something that a nurse might wear."
He looked at her for a moment, and he was struck again by how skinny she looked. "So, how long were you in that forest?" He waited for her to answer, then asked a second question. "How long were you planning on staying there?" He realized he sounded like he was interrogating her. "Sorry, it's none of my business. I know there's not exactly a lot of places you can go right, and I definitely can't think of a better plan."
The woman hesitated for a moment. She knew that she needed to eat. That had to be the first thing that she did. There was no telling how much longer she would be able to go if she did not. She moved to the bed that she had been in before and sat down. Rinexia saw the abandoned tray and felt bad that the man had gone to such efforts and she'd bolted on him. She took the bag from her form that Cademus had tossed to her in the forest. She then proceeded to eat the food that he'd packed.
It didn't take her long and with the small meal, she was feeling much better already. It would take some time before she was back to where she had been so long ago. In all honesty, Rinexia doubted that she would be around this place long enough for that to happen. She rose from her bed and then picked up the discarded plate. She made her way past the elderly woman and it took only a moment for her to find the kitchen. Once there, she cleaned up the mess that had been made.
Once finished, Rinexia made her way closer to the elderly woman that was still sitting before the window. She took a seat on the couch, making sure that it was unlikely that she would be seen from those outside. For a moment, she was silent as she eyed the world outside.
The Jedi had spent the time that Cademus had been gone sitting with the man's mother. She had found that though the old woman did not respond much that she was most definitely within her mind. It only took some digging to find her. There was nothing that could be done about the state that she was in. She had spoken with the woman and to receive answers was comforting. Though, at times she could not pick up on the responses though that was because they had only met.
When Cademus returned, he moved towards and sat the items that he'd brought down next to her. She broke the connection that she'd had with his mother and turned her gaze to what sat next to her. The device that he'd spoken about earlier was there as well as a new outfit. "Its supposed to be one size fits all, and I hope its true. Also, the guy I bought it from boasted that it was made with a material that's 'just like silk'. I'm not used to buying women's clothing, so I just picked out something that a nurse might wear."
His words brought a small smile to her face. "I'm certain that it is far too nice in any case. Thank you." She said, watching him. In truth, being a Jedi, she'd never owned nicer things and it was something that she was okay with. The dress that he'd brought back definitely looked better than most things that she'd owned. A moment of silence passed between them and she could see that he was taking in her appearance once again. "So, how long were you in that forest?"
The question surprised her. Rinexia hadn't expected him to ask her that. It took her a second before she answered him. "I'm not sure... at least a few years." She answered. She'd lost track a long time ago. Almost immediately Cademus threw another question at her.
"How long were you planning on staying there?" Before she could answer him, the man was continuing. "Sorry, it's none of my business. I know there's not exactly a lot of places you can go right, and I definitely can't think of a better plan."
A smile suddenly broke on her face. "Do not apologize. I honestly don't mind answering questions." She said turning a bit so that she could see him better. "I actually wasn't planning anything. I didn't even plan to end up on this planet. When I fled the Jedi Temple my only priority was ensuring that my Padawan remained safe... I parted ways with him and I ended up here. I would have left soon had I not been discovered by the Troopers."
She paused, turning her gaze back to his mother. Changing the subject, as if she didn't wish to speak of the revelation that she'd had a student or that she'd been at the Temple around the time of the attack, Rinexia suddenly spoke again. "Your mother... Cade... she is wonderful." Her statement likely wouldn't make much sense to him and it didn't bother her at all. She glanced back at the man, watching him.
He remembered fighting with her at the docks. She was still willing to walk then, and she planted her feet to the ground and refused to move. If she was going to die, she was going to die in her home like a normal old woman. He was almost afraid she was going to bolt. Even in her age he might not have been able to catch her his pantpockets filled with pounds of the Wilsea family valuables, and a crying Illuria hanging on his arm. But she was the one who finally convinced his mother to board the starship, so he couldn't exactly complain.
"She was a real champion for children back in the day. She'd probably would have jumped on the next ship out of here and go save your Padawan. And force feed him stew." He smiled at the thought. She thought that every child she came across was too skinny and needed some stew.
"What about you? I know Jedi take initiates young, but do you remember your parents?"
