Charlotte Izara Everly

"I am not a Human, nor am I some mere worker for hire. I am a Purus, an article of furniture just as permanent as the throne of a king. Order it, and it shall be done, for my body, mind, and soul are all at your disposal, my master."

Description

- Charlotte Izara Everly -

Image
The Basics
"I am your throne, master, and if that means I must humble myself and be sat upon to be of service to you... then I will gladly do so, without protest nor complaint. Please make use of me in whatever way you see fit."

Nicknames
Generally, she answers to whatever name her master may address her by.

Age
15.

Role
The Volunteer.

Gender
Female.

Height
Five feet, four inches.

Weight
120 pounds.

Appearance
A fragile looking individual, Charlotte's small stature - the large part of which consists of her long, lean limbs - thin figure - with a thin waist, flat stomach, and relatively average-sized bust - and stoic countenance make her seem rather pathetic and doll-like. Her skin is pale and soft, with few blemishes - a becoming appearance is necessary for a servant, as is the practice of good hygiene - curving smoothly into rounded cheeks and a small chin and forehead, adorned with a petite nose, pursed pink lips, and deep, amethyst colored eyes, all framed with a curtain of silky and straight, waist-length raven black hair, which is suspended and kept back from her eyes by a simple headband of a matching hue. Even with this band, her bangs are just long enough to cover her eyes if she hangs her head, a measure meant to conceal expression as efficiently as possible in the utmost emergencies. Her countenance, while beautiful, in a sense, seems almost lifeless. Her eyes hold little animation, her lips remain firmly locked together, twisted neither into a smile nor a frown. Her cheeks are never drawn back by a grin of any sort, and are just as pale as the rest of her skin, rarely lighting up with any sort of rosy tinge. Her hair hangs low about her, almost like a funeral veil, and the only expression she could really be said to have is one that gives a vague sense of apathetic melancholy.

Her posture is generally quite rigid, her movements practiced and mechanical, her mannerisms respectful and submissive. She seems to have very little personality or will of her own, instead simply following orders calmly and without giving voice to any opinions she might have. Physically, it's quite obvious that she is rather frail and weak, but even so, she strives as best she can to hide any exertion or strain on her part, making it somewhat hard to tell when she's actually having trouble accomplishing something.

Her general attire consists of a black blouse, over which she wears a white blazer topped with a small gray mantle, trimmed with bands of black and white and tied with a bow of deep purple ribbon. A dreary gray skirt lined with white lace and tied in the back by two tails of similar purple ribbon serves to accompany this ensemble, and patterned gray-on-black tights with matching purple trim complete her wardrobe, along with a pair of featureless black dress shoes.

Digging Deeper
"A throne... that's all I am! To think otherwise is selfish, is to disobey the masters... isn't it? I have to stop... I have to stop thinking about it, but... I can't...! That question... That damned question! What... What am I?"

Personality
Loyal to a fault, almost disturbingly subservient, and quiet and stoic to the point where it seems like you could force her to hold up the weight of the world, and she wouldn't once make a sound of either strain or protest. Her devotion to the family she has been programmed to serve is single-minded and unparalleled, even self-destructive in nature. She would probably be willing to take a bullet without a second thought for the sake of those she serves, then get back up and take another, all without batting an eye. She does not smile, laugh, or cry, instead showing only the bare minimum of expression at any given time, making it very difficult to discern what she actually thinks or feels. It's not that she doesn't feel emotions or pain, however. Quite the contrary, in fact. She hates pain in all its forms, and serves so wholeheartedly out of a desire to escape from the feelings that continue to haunt her, repressing every last ounce of her Human nature that she can in the hopes that she will someday be able to be free of it entirely, and, by extension, free of pain and cares. Her single highest goal is to become the perfect servant, a submissive, silent doll to be used by her masters as they see fit, one without will or feeling of its own. After all, if one doesn't have a heart, it can't ever be broken again... right?

Despite her unfeeling, cold exterior, however, she's actually a very emotional person. Due to the respect she holds for her family, a mere scolding or insult from them would probably be enough to make her cry - once nobody was looking, of course. The converse also holds true. Even the most basic praise or kindness from her overseers warm her heart. It is this joy in working that gives Charlotte her only remaining reason to continue living. Because of this, however, she's also torn inside. She doesn't want to throw away her feelings altogether, because this last shard of happiness is her precious life. She knows living for her own happiness is selfish for a Purus, and yet can't fully hide the emptiness she feels without the security her masters' kindness gives her. Confused, lonely, and angry at herself for all of her own failures, and with strange and unknown feelings and memories slowly creeping back into her mind, Charlotte doesn't know what to do, and although she tries to hide all of these things and just keep working as always, she's finding it harder and harder to cope with, and is beginning to break under the pressure. Even still, though, she doesn't show a thing on the outside, keeping everything shut up in her heart as best she can, trying her best not to be a problem to anyone, especially not her masters.

An odd habit of hers is to refer to herself as "furniture" or a "throne." This is just another attempt to master her own emotions and feelings and to live solely for the sake of her masters, but even despite this, she's beginning to doubt her identity, wondering if a servant is really all she is...

Skills & Hobbies
Cleaning, cooking, and other such mundane household duties. As she's essentially the maid of the Everly family, this is really no surprise. What is a bit more of a surprise, however, is that, as hobbies, she enjoys singing, drawing, and playing the piano, although she never shows any of her pictures, nor plays any of her songs to anyone, deeming them inferior and undeserving of her masters' attention or notice. She also likes reading books of all sorts, especially novels, and can oftentimes be seen doing so in her free time.

Another secret of hers is a small collection of dolls she occasionally adds to out of her small allowance, hiding this fact from her masters, since it's rather strange for a Purus to have an exceeding attachment for any specific thing.

Likes
Music, generally classical or quiet.
Reading books.
Art.
Anything given her by her masters.
Being in the company of others.
Being needed.
Dolls.

Dislikes
Being alone.
Being scolded.
Being useless.

Opinion On The Government
Largely ambivalent. To Charlotte, the government of Paxatore is just another master to obey, but actually, she respects her own personal masters over the rules and regulations of the government, something rather unusual for a Purus. To other Purus, she is nonetheless respectful and quiet, viewing even them as superior to herself, and somewhat naively assuming that they, unlike her, do not have the same doubts or shortcomings as she herself does.

Behind The Scenes
"I am a failure... just a humble stool that thought it could be a throne. A household has no need for broken furniture. That's right... I'm useless. There's nobody who needs me, nobody who even cares I exist. And I... I don't deserve anyone to acknowledge my existence, anyway. I should just... disappear."

History
Born Alicia Izara, the Purus now known as Charlotte Everly, was, to begin with, a very ordinary person. Her parents were a normal, middle class family with stable, decently well-paying jobs. They obeyed the law, loved their only child, and were content. She went to school, and, although she wasn't an intellectual prodigy, she made decent grades even thought her introverted nature kept her isolated, unable to make any close friends. Instead, she often played by herself or with her mother, treating her dolls as her companions when she found herself alone, taking her favorite, one she called Charlotte, with her almost everywhere she went. She was content with her life, and took up the piano, studying how to play it from a government-approved music tutor, from a young age, loving the instrument and the sounds it made. She sang government-approved songs, played government-approved games, participated in her local government-approved youth league's government-approved community service and self-improvement exercises, did her studies, and was happy, along with her loving family. And yet, abruptly, all of these good things came to an end.

Riding in her mother's car on their way home from school one day, young Alicia's life was suddenly torn apart when the car's tire was suddenly cut open by a broken bottle lying in the road, sending the vehicle skidding out of control and into the next lane over, where it was struck by several other passing cars, and battered into an unrecognizable heap of debris. Miraculously, Alicia survived with few injuries. Her mother, on the other hand, was left an unrecognizable corpse, dead by the time the wrecked car had finally stopped moving. Alicia was trapped inside the rubble, unable to avert her eyes from the body that had once been her beloved mother.

Deeply traumatized by the event, Alicia withdrew into herself, becoming terrified by perfectly ordinary things and people, and taking no enjoyment in the activities she had once loved. Making matters worse, she was not the only one scarred by the events of the crash, for her father, driven to despair, gave up his job and took to drinking, losing himself in endless alcoholic binges during which he would chase and berate his terrified daughter, unable to even recognize her. He blamed her for murdering her mother, and would chase her out of the house, saying that he would not let her kill Alicia, too. Becoming quite delusional, he instead took to addressing the doll Charlotte as his daughter, treating it as such, while he let the real Alicia starve, locked away in her room to avoid his wrath.

At last, Alicia reached a level of despair where she could no longer bear her sustained existence. And yet, having seen her mother's body, she found herself too afraid to die. And so, despite her pain, she strove to live, yet also to abandon her memories, her life, and her very heart, a burden which she was unable to bear without breaking completely. And so, one cold winter's night, when she was chased out of her home again by her drunken father, she made her way to the town hall, and begged to be made into a Purus so she could at last escape from the life she could not bear. She made one final request, and then the deed was done, her memories and feelings wiped. She forgot everything about herself: her life, her mother, her father, even her own name. She retained but one memory.

She was not Alicia. She was Charlotte, and her sole purpose in life was to never be useless or unwanted again.

Those conducting the indoctrination process found Charlotte's mind surprisingly easy to rewire. Deep down, she didn't want to remember or feel anything, and wanted to be useful, no matter what. Once a family agreed to buy her services, all there was to do was to program her mind to acknowledge them as her absolute masters, and then the deed was done. She was a Purus, and was taken in by the Everly family without much question on either side. Although she was comparatively very young - having become a Purus at age 10 and having been taken in at age 11 - she nonetheless worked as hard as she could, making herself useful as a maid and cook, and, oftentimes, as the - albeit very stoic and emotionless - playmate of the twins of her new family, who were naught but a year younger than herself.

And yet, no matter how hard she worked, there was still something distinctly wrong with her, even if she was the only one who knew it. For some reason, being in a car made her uneasy, and any sort of violence, loud noise, or sudden happening frightened her, even if she mastered herself and never showed it. And, when she slept, she would have nightmares she could not explain. She felt grieved over even slight mishaps, and overjoyed by relatively ordinary things. And, even if it was selfish, she found herself feeling more and more aware and focused upon her own being and existence. Uncertain, she tries to continue her duties, however, strange memories have begun to creep into her thought process. The kind-looking, smiling face of a familiar yet unknown woman, and a vague sense of nostalgic pain repeatedly surface in her mind, drawing her to feel ever more and more isolated, hopeless, and alone, uncertain even of herself and her own identity...

Romantic Interest
None yet, although she might well end up falling in love by the end of things. Generally, she'd be interested in a male around her own age who consistently treated her kindly, although even she might not realize the feelings she harbored were romantic love, at least not for a while.

Friends
All members of the Everly family, although again, they're treated with the utmost respect and regard as her "masters," rather than as actual friends.

Theme Song
Will - Yuki Kajiura

Other
She's very easily scared, although she never shows it much. She has several phobias, so expect some evidence of that in her actions.
