When the enemy approaches all you can do is fight, right?

Introduction

You live in the Realm of Kenern it is a beautiful place all the people are nice etc. etc.

Not much can be said for the neighbouring Realm, Arkanine, primarily made up of all those exiled from Kenern it is generally a crappy place, to put it in the nicest terms possible.

Recently there has been grumblings in Arkanine and they have now decided they have enough support to overrun Kenern and take control, making the nice people of Kenern (which is you) their slaves, to do with what they will. King John Wollte the VII has mobilised his great armies and realised it is not enough. The general peasantry is needed to fill in the rest of militia. The King has sent out Heralds to all villages calling men and women alike to help with the war effort.

It is your choice if you join the army to fight, heal or strategists. The fighting body is made up of mages, cavalry, foot soldiers and archers. The healing party is made up of white mages, doctors and herbalists. The strategists need architects, hunters, spies, assassins and scientists.

Base your characters on any one of these roles and let us know what they are, (healer, fighter, strategist) and from that, what subgroup they fall into (mage, doctor, spy etc.)

The General was caught off guard by the young man's outburst. Anger filled Trivius and his fists tightened. Such a man would call him a coward and a lapdog is completely foolish. "You have some nerve boy," General Krutus warned, "But I like that". The man had something he had not seen in any soldier since Ritter. He had a pair between his legs. A pleasant smile erupted on the General's face. "I think I might not have all your men killed and you crucified." Crucifixion was a common punishment in the Reatric states of the Drodech Empire, one that Trivius enforced with great pleasure. "War isn't about banners or nations, boy," the General explained, "War is about strength, power, and victory. I fought till the bitter end with my kinsmen but we weren't strong enough. We failed and we deserved death." He stepped down from his horse to take a more casual stance. He knew better than to let his guard down. As his feet touched the ground, his archers lined their sights to Hérion and armed their arrows.

"My life should not have been spared!" he shot at the Northern man, "But I saw an eagle follow us as we neared the capital and I am not certain if you are familiar with Raetric customs, but that is our most important symbol. I was meant to fight again. Drodech is powerful, I fight for them. My brothers and sisters who did not join me were cut down...as they should have been. They were weak. The weak die and the powerful triumph. They had potential but failed to utilize it, so they died." He studied the angered man with great caution. He was enraged and potentially dangerous. The man was staring him down. Trivius decided he'd return the stare. "Be careful with your choice of actions and words," the General advised, "I've killed more important men for less important reasons and I don't plan on killing you...for now."

____________

Ritter was astonished by the way Hérion spoke to General Krutus. If only he could see what the General has done to soldiers and regular citizens alike. He inspired fear throughout the entire Empire. Ritter was ready to jump into the fray if Hérion lets his emotions get the better of him.

He turned to see Rhovanion. "At last, some good news!" Ritter exclaimed, "Bring him up here, but remain steady."

***OOC I do admit, Herions outburst made my day I was laughing and at the same time thinking 'holy craaapppp' :P**

Tasmyn grinned ruefully and nodded to Ritter, about to speak when Herion burst out suddenly, she watched as he walked along a precarious line between tolerable and potentially lethal comments. Her mouth dropped and she held her face in her hands, a small smile coming falteringly onto her lips. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath and nodded once in order to become stoic again.

When the General jumped from his saddle, Tasmyn tightened her grasp on the arrow and watched him wearily as he came forward, ready to strike if he did anything. He did not and she relaxed, slightly. Taking a step toward Hérion she gave him a glance that suggested he stop, "General Trivius, may I suggest that we leave this rather dreary area for a more private one?" she interjected her eyes darting between the mass of armed men behind the General. "The conversation will be far less likely to have such raucous outbursts, I'm sure," she continued turning her head to glance at Hérion once more a twinkling in her eye, before turning back to Tarvius with a steely look, the twinkle gone.

***OOC - His outburts are for sure making this RP really great, I honestly love his character! :D oh and sorry and the long post again :$***

When the woman stepped forward, Trivius was intrigued by the woman. He looked to see Ritter and Hérion eyeing her with more interest than he was. He smiled for a moment before letting his self-discipline wipe the smile from his face. "Very well, we may speak inside my command tent," he stated, "But for security reasons I must ask that you relinquish your weapons and leave your guard of soldiers outside. No harm will come to them, I assure you." He may be a vicious tactician and brutal commander, but Trivius was not a liar, something he prided himself on. "Only the commanders of the Kenern may enter the camp," he stipulated, "Them being the young woman, the three northern riders and Prince Kolwert of course." Trivius proceeded to mount his horse and his men cleared a narrow path for him. "We will have a guard of my legionnaries with us during the entire meeting, I hope you understand my caution. They will not strike unless ordered to and you are not my enemy for the moment, let us hope it can stay that way."

As much power as the General boasted, the Empire was fighting its own wars and did not want to have to fight Kenern and the Assu'sair. Kenern and the Empire had been enemies of the same nation and a grudge was the only force bringing an Imperial army into Kenern. The Emperor had even bought Ritter from the Kenernian king for a hefty sum. Coin motivated most humans, something Trivius didn't quite understand the concept of money and greed. The battlefield was his home and promise of wealth or women could change that. His tactics were superior to any Imperial general, except Ritter's of course. But Ritter had what he did not: Heart. The heart to lead and passion to bring out the best in every soldier under his command. Something Trivius admired and hated Ritter for. Their rivalry would never die. Perhaps our days of battle are over, he thought, considering all possible outcomes of this situation. "Before we continue on I want to know where my Emperor is." He was hellbent on completing the mission or seeing if he failed.

___________

Ritter cautiously observed Tasmyn as she offered her suggestion to Trivius Krutus. She was very polite and very formal. Trivius would appreciate that. The General eyed her for a moment and delivered his responce. Tasmyn was sucessful with her negotiation as Trivius invited them into his camp. Ritter sighed with relieif. Another outburst and a battle would have surely commenced. Though they may have a chance at victory, the discipline of the Drodech-Raetric legions and the abundance of archers would surely cause heavy casualties. Kenern did not need more casualties. "He speaks the truth when he says he won't attempt to harm us," Ritter told his allies, "But the choice is yours if you wish to go into the camp."

Ritter listened as Trivius named the commanders who would be allowed into the tent. As his name came up, Ritter could help but clench his fists and grit his teeth. He did his best to restrain himself. Prince Kolwert, he hated that name. Despite his urges to get up and wire Trivius's jaw shut, he remained silent, staring daggers through him from inside his helmet.

"The emperor is safe. That is all you will know until we can decide on terms for his release," Eurainon said sternly. "Let us speak in private now." Erurainon said, walking his horse towards the designated tent. Erurainon removed his sword belt and handed it to a Kernean bannerman. He lead the way into the tent to prepare for a hard day of negotiations.

Tasmyns expression was tight when Trivius instructed them to remove their weapons. Passing them to one of the Kenernian soldier she leaned next to him and muttered grimly "lose any of it and you will pay" she felt him go rigid before she leant back and turned back to Trivius, "May you be so kind as to do the same?" she asked in a calm tone her eyes cold as she stared at the General. "May I also request that five Kenernian troops are situated in the tent, for my state of mind?" she added in a sugar coated tone, "For security, I hope you understand," she continued, casting Trivius a side long glance.

She turned to Ritter and Erurianon with a sheepish grin when the General asked about the Emperor and Erurianon responded. She had never been part of negotiations but their expressions suggested it was not a pleasnt time.

The General studied the commanders carefully as they handed their weapons to the soldiers. Prince Ritter did the same but glared towards Trivius as he removed his helmet.

Grudges never die, do they Ritter? his thoughts brought him to a darkened place in his mind. Visions of striking down the prince in cold blood clouded his thoughts. Ritter's corpse fell violently as Trivius pulled his shortsword from his rival's chest.

The General shook those visions from his mind. Focusing on the task at hand was more important. "Very well, I will relinquish my arms also," Trivius agreed, "And bring 5 soldiers with you, I wouldn't want you to feel pressured or threatened during the negotiation." General Trivius Krutus knew he was a man of his word. Deception was never a tactic used outside the battlefield. A guard of the General's reform soldiers surrounded the group of Kenernian commanders and their five soldiers. "Don't be alarmed, they're simply escorting you." He could sense the tenseness of the Kenernians as his soldiers approached.

"Please bring the Emperor if you may," he requested, "I do wish to know you're not bluffing. Keep a blade to his throat if you believe we'll try to rescue him by force. If one of my soldiers or myself attempt to free him without negotiation, slit his throat." His stern voice and complete seriousness shocked some of his own soldiers. "Come, it is almost time for dinner, if we're going to spend the evening arguing, we may as well do so over a nice dinner."

___________

Ritter held in his frustrations as he complied to General Trivius's demands. "Listen to the man," he advised his companions, "But do be careful, I may not be able to negotiate with him cause of our past, I'll do my best to help though." Optimism shined on the exterior but he was nervous deep inside.

Erurainon nodded to one of his guards when the General asked for the emperor. "He will be here shortly," the tall Arkadian told the general. The two brothers took seats at a round table. Both hard-faced, they prepared for a long day of negotiations. “We have no business negotiating with this traitor brother,” Hérion told his brother in Arkadian. “We will see what will come of today. Please brother, just don’t say anything to him.” Erurainon responded. The rest of the party sat at the table and they prepared negotiations.

The General sat at the elongated table within his personal quarters. His "guests" joined him shortly after. The Northern men began whispering to one another. Trivius could normally pick up on whispers but the Northerners were speaking their native tongue. Servants brought out a small-portioned meal of meats and vegetables. "By all means eat," The General invited, "If you believe it to be poison, have a servant try it, or our War Hounds would enjoy the meal." Trivius disregarded the Northerners and their foreign dialect, one he was not familiar with, no point of lingering on what one will never know. He analyzed the men and women seated at his table, trying to figure out their traits and flaws in order to achieve the maximum success within the negotiation.

The Northerners seemed to be the makeshift leaders of the Kernernian Forces. Strange that the ancient enemies of Kenern would someday be leading their armies, he thought. The one he heard them call 'Hérion' was a hot-headed individual, easily set off by anything he may deem "dishonourable". A warrior bound by tradition. What seemed to be a close relative or friend to him, the one they called 'Erurainon', was a more logical thinker who did not let his emotions get the better of him. Trivius had not encountered the third Northerner long enough to read him.

The young woman was very tough to read. He could see the scorn inside her, but she displayed a courteous and friendly disposition. Her intentions were unclear. She carried herself as though she could embrace him like a husband in one moment, the plunge a blade in his throat the minute he let his guard down. She extended one hand to him, while arming the next. Trivius Krutus made a mental note to be wary of this one.

As for Prince Ritter, he had no worry about his actions. The man was too emotionally and politically involved to make a real difference in the negotiations without losing his temper. He assumed he would simply keep quiet. These were of course all just assumptions, the General was never a diplomat, but being a general teaches one how to deal with others on and off the battlefield.

"Now explain something to me," The General began, "My men are better trained, more numerous, have higher moral, equipment and stamina, what leads you to believe that I will withdraw my legions from this area, what leads you to believe that if you deny a request to surrender and choose to fight that you will leave with your lives?"

((I am a terrible person, almost a month long writers block + no time = no fun :( I hope you guys still check the RP so we can get it going again.))

Tasmyn sat at the table her expression bland, it was in her opinion she would wait and see before she commented. Never mind how difficult that may be. She watched the General witha critical eye he seemed to hold them in contempt, this idea was further shown in his remark. Leaning forward she leaned over the table and grabbed an apple taking a large bite before responding, "General. you must remember, we have your King in our hands and you have little idea what condition he is in. For all you know he could be in severe need of healing or perfectly fine. We could have 20 men surrounding him blades to his skin ready to kill him on the off chance they hear of your invasion. For all you know, General we could have troops from all sections of the world, as you can see we have in our Party myself and men from all different backgrounds. Is it perhaps possible, each man has brought soldiers? Are you willing, General to risk it. We have defeated your men once, and the Assu'sair, are you really willing to try us?" she kept a placid expression as she said this, a small smile on her lips but her eyes showed a challenge.

The General pondered for a moment, considering all that the blue-haired woman was telling him. They weren't numerous but they were hardy and determined. Numbers alone could never win a war, something Trivius knew very well. Perhaps these people weren't as pathetic as he once thought.

"You make an interesting argument," The General remarked, "Return the Emperor to us, safely, and my forces will withdraw from the area. I would like to make one condition though: a garrison of my soldiers will stay here under supervision of one of my more competent captains...to protect the interests of the Empire."

The General paused for a moment, sipping some wine from his chalice before speaking again. "I see Kenern as something of value to the Empire, possibly a future ally. To see you fall to the Arkanine or the Assu'sair would be a shame, the garrison stationed at this camp will be small...nothing you can't handle."

Tasmyn pondered what the General said and was secretly thrilled by the expression of surprise on his face after she made her little speech. Now she was unsure what to say she glanced at the others in the room, and they looked around too. "If it is acceptable General, would we be able to have a private moment to confer?" she asked in a sweet tone flashing him a convincing smile. She was not sure of the protocol in these meetings, were they allowed private time? God she hoped so. If not it was up to the others to decide, that perhaps would have been the better option before she opened her big trap.

Sitting still for such a long period of time bothered General Krutus. The fur resting on his shoulders began to itch and the stillness annoyed him. Negociation was uncomfortable but necessary. Though they spent far too long discussing the Emperor's safe return and the well-being of the Kingdom of Kenern. Nonetheless, Krutus was satisfied with the results.

"Of course you may discuss privately," Krutus graciously offered, "Although please hurry, I would like to see our Emperor safely returned. I'll explain to him the details of our truce and possibilities of alliance - if my liege wills it of course."
