The Gods predate man. Their reign powerful, eternal and revered. But since the dawn of the Gods, there have always been those sworn to end Olympus. The golden throne, the seat of the righteous, king of the Gods, Zeus. It is the core of their world. Many seek to destroy it, dethrone Zeus and end the reign of the Gods.

Camp Athens, a safe place for demigods, children of the Gods. A place for them to live, grow and train. That was the intent. The demigods were never supposed to be the warriors for the Gods. Their parents wanted them to grow up safe from the world that threatens to end them. But the ruler of the Underworld, Hades, sought after the golden throne for himself, the demigods had no choice but to fight.

The campers faced many trials that tested them on levels far greater than they ever imaged. It was but the first day of the summer, demigods flooding into the camp, when a minotaur stormed its way through. A distraction while a son of Zeus, Ajax, was stabbed by an Underworld blade and poisoned. When things seemed to die down, it was only the quiet before the storm. Ajax was later taken prisoner by Hades, only set free when his soul was taken from him in exchange for a daughter of Hecate.

And all the while, when some of the most powerful demigods were nowhere to be found, the rest of the campers had to band together to take down their toughest foe… A Hydra. Then there was death… at the hands of a God and at the hands of a daughter of Zeus. It seemed, when at their weakest, Hades attacked.

The war. Something the demigods had been preparing for, but never thought would come. Giants and minions flooded their way onto the grounds of camp. The Gods stood side by side with their children in a fight for Olympus. It tested them more than anything had before… And in the end, they succeeded. But not without great loss. Wounded, weak and broken, the demigods came together victorious.

It’s been a year since that war. New demigods have found their way to the camp. The heroes of the war found ways to cope with their losses and train harder. Although the war is over, no one can rest. Something lurks in the distance, like a storm on the horizon. They don’t know what it is or when it will come… But they must be ready.

WIPs will not be accepted x / / x WIP tends to lead to people assuming they do not have to complete CS. So, due to that I will not accept a character until the CS is completely finished. It helps us and you to have a fully flushed out character before you post. Password 1 : Who was stabbed with an underworld blade?

Demigods x / / x There will only be two demigods per God. This keeps the number of characters at a balanced manageable level. Discussion could be made to potentially add another God, but we don't want to overload the RP. Also the deceased campers will remain, and prohibit the possibility of a new camper their place. Their life and death had significance in the first year of Camp Athens, and for other reasons it is necessary.

Reservations x / / x Reserving a character will be done through the OOC discussion board. All reservations must include the God/Goddess you intend as the parent, FC, how often you are online and average word count per post; along with the answers to the passwords. If you want more than one character you are welcome. But, if you would like to reserve both child of a single god you must ask. Depending on the circumstances it may not work for diversity's sake.

Character Guidelines x / / x Throughout the balancing of the characters, a good mix of male and female roles would be appreciated. That doesn't necessarily mean each God has a male and female child, but that throughout an even amount would help the RP be balanced. Ideally, FCs should look close to the age of your character. Abilities shall be taken from the provided list. If you are wanting your character to have an ability not listed, please contact me and we shall discuss it.

Inactivity x / / x Inactivity and ghosting is a plague in RPG. It seems people cannot stick to RPs for the life of them. I get it, life happens... It happens to all of us. But, we all want RPs to succeed. The first year of Camp Athens made it to the end, but by that day there was only 5 writers out of the numerous that were originally part of the RP. So, that being said, if life happens please just contact us and let us know, we are very understanding. If you're MIA from OOC, posting or PMs without explanation or word, we do reserve the right to write past your character if it's keeping us in limbo. I'd rather you back out of the RP versus disappearing. Password 2 : Which Demigods are deceased?

General Rules x / / x Violence, adult language and adult situations will happen so if you cannot handle that you may not want to join. I encourage romance, it’s fun and we all enjoy complicated romance stories. Kissing and what not is fine, but when this get handsy... or naked. Just fade to black, and have your characters imply it later or whatever. We have imaginations, plus site rules and stuff :p Don’t control someone else’s character without their ok, this includes their NPCs. Also this meant to be fun so please no OOC fighting. Any issues can be directed through me and I'll handle it :)

There she was, eventually standing in the midst of her own mini-chaos that sort of mirrored her emotions right about now. Liv closed her eyes, braced her back against a wall and rubbed the palm of her hand down her face. A sigh passed through her lips, and she tilted her head back and fought the urge to continue on this destructive path. Admittedly, it felt so good to have this kind of disastrous power just lurking somewhere waiting to be fully unleashed. That sigh turned into a bit of quiet laughter, now that she was daring to embrace the ruinous nature of being Poseidon's daughter.

Why the fuck not? Alex was free to kill and harm people, right? Free to do as she pleases to whom she pleases, and that was the most irritating thought. Then there was Trinity, the Camp's volatile powerhouse just laying out whoever pisses her off just a little bit. If those two women could be bad, then perhaps there was no harm in being worse. Liv wasn't going to be a beaten dog, and she certainly didn't like that certain people were forgiven no matter what they did. The justice in this world, with the gods - it felt biasedly... weighted more heavily on one side than the other. If she spent the next few days, weeks even, working on her deadly ability, those girls would think twice in the future.

Oh, but for now, Liv has to put her good girl face on as Duke enters the gym in its calamitous state. Not that she minded, of course. He wasn't bad company from what she could discern on their little Pegasus ride from Olympus. It was just unfortunate that she had other issues to take care of before they could properly engage. She pushed herself off of the wall, put on that veneer of meek innocence, and let him have the first word.

"Do I bother to ask what's on your mind?" He inquired, and she offered him a light smile as she bent down to pick up some of the displaced weights. Now, she wasn't Trinity or Alex, so she'd probably have to leave the obscenely heavy ones for Duke or maybe Liam later when he hogs the gym.

"Well, Duke - that depends on if you genuinely want to know," she responded with the shrug of a single shoulder as she placed the dumbbells in their rightful spot.

"Do you want to do some resistance exercises then head outside to try your powers?" He then asked, and she shook her head at the weight training. "I am not really a weights kind of girl, but I won't stop you from getting under the barbell." That was almost a tease as if to imply that she'd love to watch him try to get under a barbell. Of course, that meant he would have to pull off the plates that Liam used because that asshole never put anything back.

"Alex isn't with you?" She then asks, aware of his attachment to the girl - or rather, her attachment to him. Either way. Whichever it was. "I really don't feel like getting deep into conversation and training only for her to steal you away, as she often does with my other conversational partners. What is it with some people that they feel they are so entitled? It's annoying." There was a sharp tinge of resentment in her usual kind tone, but only for a few seconds.

"Liv, a hand please," Duke requested, and while Liv wasn't going to lift a barbell with all those plates on it, she did know how to remove them properly. The daughter of Poseidon placed two smaller plates on the ground, the 25-pound ones. Then she beckoned for Duke to help her roll the barbell on top of them which would, in turn, help with the ease of wiggling the plates that were not touching the floor any longer off. She'd do that, then lift up her end to remove the last plate and let Duke take care of his end. She'd let him, on his own, pick the barbell up and place it on the rack. He can lift forty-five pounds. She believed in him.

She turned to face him, head tilted after she combed her hands through her hair now styled in a short bob, and smiled again, "You know, I've been meaning to train with someone like you. If you think about it, you're kind of like the Yin to my Yang in terms of godly power." With the gym in better shape than before Duke had entered, she started to leave with him likely walking beside her.

"I hope you like the beach," she turned her head to him, her teeth biting her lower lip and eyebrows both lifting a couple of times kind of comically. It wasn't really a seductive move, but more like... fire didn't cope so well with water. "Oh, and swimming. You never know when you might need to save yourself from drowning..." she accidentally added that last part as more or less an ominous murmur, but she didn't address it at all or even care. If she had to do something drastic, maybe some of the people she liked could save themselves. Fuck the rest of them. They could drown.

Some part of her hoped these emotions were just temporary - just that part of her that was back and forth between happy, sad, and anger. Yet, it seemed the longer she stayed, the more permanently certain emotions ruled her.

"Why? Are you offering?" Andy joked laughing. Mason grinned with her, an impressed brow shooting up before he could help it but thought his instant reply was better left unsaid. He'd do what he had to for Andy in this state but applying a gel for her wouldn't be one of the most painful chores.

As she inspected herself and questioned what might be healed or happened to her body, Mason shrugged. How was he to know if she did or didn't have burns or what Cherise's powers did. He supposed they could catch up with the doctor that might have been an amateur but actually half cared later.

Most of the conversation Andy seemed honest about her pain and comfort levels. Though Mason wasn't assured by her 5-6 pain lingering and her saying she was okay. She'd be okay when there was no pain and she was more mobile. God how he wanted to kill Alex.

"I would love something to eat and something to wear that isn't an itchy hospital gown. Even if it was just a t-shirt." Mason nodded. Anything next to a gown was an improvement no doubt. Then she grimaced and Mason waited for the explanation, what was hurting, where was the pain? "I hate being useless."

He shook his head almost glad to hear it was a bruised ego rather than physical. That wasn't the reality at all. "You're temporarily incapacitated. Not useless." For now she'd just have to take the services offered to her.

It seemed along the way maybe he did persuade her to accept her current circumstances and his help. "Alright. Just... make sure you get food for yourself. Ok?"

Mason got to his feet. "No promises," he replied knowing she'd probably hate that. But his stomach wasn't speaking to him and food wasn't on his mind. "I'll be quick. What do you want?" Women were generally fussy eaters and he didn't want to come back with the wrong order or something that didn't appeal to her appetite. Andy wasn't one of the princesses among camp but it didn't hurt to get what you wanted.

Mason exited the infirmary, coming to a halt when he saw Ajax's retreating figure. "Shit," he muttered. He sighed. They hadn't done anything wrong in his mind, but somehow, he felt he had managed to worsen conditions on the Andy and Ajax thread. He of course couldn't care less about Ajax's feelings but Andy happened to be attached to the son of Zeus. He glanced back over his shoulder then went to her cabin. Somehow Ajax's back didn't look like it was walking away to sneak in to visit her. Guess they'd cross that bridge when they came to it.

Mason didn't mind letting himself in her cabin but going through her clothes was new territory. He got to her room and froze not knowing where to begin. Did he have to get matching stuff or random? Delicates? Happy to stall the inevitable for a few seconds he instead searched for a bag to carry her clothes in because walking out of a cabin with a woman's clothes really wasn't a good look. Where was Trinity when needed? He cussed and grabbed everything: underwear, a dress, top and pants. That way everything was covered. He threw the bag over his shoulder and headed for the hall not stopping for anything or anyone.

Although as he was making Andy's breakfast, he did lift his head to see Iliana and Daniel talking. Judging by the grin on his face, it looked like he was back to thinking he was the funniest guy on earth. Mason smiled to himself. He could almost feel sorry for Iliana. Instead he crept out without saying anything, spotting two newbies side by side. Well one of them was the Hermes girl, Penny or something, that he offloaded on Liv and took Sylas into the closet last night but the other was super new. He gestured back the way he had come. "That way freshies. Food, tour guides, the whole deal." Now he didn't have to stop and chat to them as they passed.

He returned to the infirmary without any heavy confrontations. "Hey. How'd I do?" He placed her breakfast on the bedside table and let the bag slide down his arm to the chair. "Come on, sit up." He held out his arms as support if she needed when she tried to sit upright. Mason hated seeing the slow and painful progress though. He closed his arms around her tenderly, getting low enough so her chin could rest on his shoulder like a hug and lifted her up the bed cautiously then fixed up the pillows behind her. "Good girl," he said softly. Andy wasn't disabled or immobile or likely even to be in this state very long but Mason had seen too much decay of the ones he loved and it became an effort and painful for them to move.

He set the overbed tray over her and replaced her breakfast on it then sat by her legs.

When she was done eating he scratched the back of his neck, dreading the moment Andy buried through the bag to find out where he had been in her closet and drawers. He brought the bag on his lap almost like signing his own death warrant. "I thought it was better to get fresh...everything." He handed it to her. "I tried to get clothes that weren't too clingy but they all looked the same to me. I can get some staff to help you get changed or find Trinity?" Whoever or whatever she was most comfortable with. As long as she didn't use her powers.

Image "At least if you see her you'll know you tried. You're at least giving her the common courtesy." As Duke reached out towards him, Ajax met him halfway to shake his hand back in return.

He felt, no he knew, that he would be the last person on earth that Andy would want to see at this point, but like Duke told him, at least he'd know he tried. If only it were as simple as that, though. Countless times he could have redeemed himself, corrected the wrongs with rights, and saved all the campers last year. He hadn't been there for Andy, he didn't stop the fight before it happened, and now she was sitting in the infirmary.

Alex was out of control, he knew it, but he didn't like to admit it to anyone... especially not to himself. He truly believed that everything would get better after the trial and that Alex would start feeling like her old self, but he was wrong. Again.

He began to chew on the loose skin that lay on his bottom lip while he made his way to the infirmary. He had no idea how Andy was going to react to him even being there. Maybe a slap to the face was what he deserved. He could stand beside her so she could watch as her friends came to visit her, slapping him on their way over to her.

His thick black boots carried him right up to the door almost. He froze. Right there in front of him as he could see the silhouettes of the healers inside the military-type tent as they moved around to check on Andy. He could imagine her swatting them away as she didn't like them fussing too much, which just made him smile behind that thick mustache of his. That smile soon faded, though, when he saw another silhouette sitting down with her. The voice confirming who it was. "I can't get the closet out of my mind either." Ajax's gaze fell to the ground as he sighed.

Mason was the better option that didn't constantly let her down, always took her side, and cared for her more than he cared about himself.

Before anything else could be heard, Ajax walked away.

He set his new path in the direction of the hall where Daniel and Iliana were talking. Without engaging with them like he was in his own world, Ajax grabbed some food and took a seat at the back of the hall with his back to them both. He'd finish, then head back to the cabin to pack since there was nothing left for him here. Not right now.

Peace wasn't for long in this place. "Hey Ajax.... you doing okay?" As nice as they were, his father's temper stirred in him. Not because this nice person was checking in on him, but because of earlier. The words that tumbled out of Mason's mouth, the returned affection that Andy now felt for the snake. His grip tightened around the fork he was holding in his right hand, the metal of the handle digging into the palm of his hand without realizing.

Image His mind pictured Mason and Andy kissing, and before he knew it, before he could even stop himself, the food bowl was launched up against the wall opposite him.

The food ran down the wall as the bowl clattered against the concrete and the marbled floor. The camper quickly stepped back in shock, shielding themselves as they instantly thought the son of Zeus was going to attack them.

Instead, Ajax stormed out of the hall, leaving the half startled and frightened camper to watch the back of him.

Image Standing in the bathroom in front of the mirror, toothbrush in hand, she thought about the night before. The pair had spent over an hour talking, or at least Alex did. Duke just listened. "It's okay if you don't want to stay... I'll understand if you even end up hating me like everyone else."

Duke had shaken his head, and with a weak smile, he squeezed her hand and said, "I'm staying." even though she knew he wasn't the type of person to allow others opinions to affect his own, she didn't expect him to stay. After all, she had promised him that she'd be herself again, but that promise had been broken the second she laid her hands on Andy.

With the thought of the days ahead, Alex closed her eyes for a second, took a deep breath, and let all her anxiety float away with the exhale of air before brushing her teeth.

It wasn't too long before she was ready, fully dressed, and heading down the stairs. The lounge was empty as Duke wasn't on the couch anymore, but his pillow and quilt were there, stacked neatly into a pile. He hadn't had time to get back to his own cabin yet by the looks of things, and given what time it was in the morning, the camp would be breathing life.

She slipped on her shoes that lay on the carpet by the door and headed out. She'd just missed her brother when she made her way over to Wes.

Image "Hey... I... can I talk to you for a moment? I need some advice and... well, that's not the only reason I want to talk to you. Please." she said, her brows furrowing as she gently pleaded to be heard. She looked passed him for a quick moment, her eyes landing on Trinity and that hulk brother of hers before she looked back at Wes. Once he gave her some indication that it was alright for her to talk, Alex got started. "A part of you probably hates me right now, and I don't blame you, but... I just want to say that I and Ajax are leaving soon and I couldn't leave without saying goodbye to you. I'm going to miss you, cupid."

hopefully, that sudden nickname for him didn't sound cliche or lame. "I hope, one day, you'll forgive me." she smiled a little. "I also feel like I should apologize to Andy, but... I don't think it will make any difference with how much she hates me." Alex also didn't blame Andy for that, or Trinity. Even Alex hated herself.

Heath and Ethan were still jogging as the path they took went into a wooded area.

"You'd think a place as nice as this wouldn't have such drama," Ethan commented.

"It just goes to show just how much looks can be deceiving. I hope there will come a day here that things aren't so tense."

"Still I am glad we came. I love your place, Heath, but I was getting tired of being cooped up in your place."

Ethan knew he could be completely honest with Heath. He was an extrovert, he could never stay inside for too long. Heath grinned at his friend, grateful for his assistance. He had started seeing the anxiety of staying inside, trying to help his sister, was starting to take its toll. It was a good thing their mothers told them to go to the camp when they did because he could tell that Ethan had been slowly going nuts.

As the two continued to jog, they soon started hearing voices. Finally, they came upon the source of those voices. It was Cherise and Rae. Ethan couldn't help but suppress a groan. While both girls were nice, they did freak him out last night when they dragged him on the dance floor. Heath saw his friend's face, but seeing how the two ladies already noticed them, he was the first to greet them.

"Morning ladies. Getting some archery in? We were just getting some jogging in before getting some breakfast."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I like this girl. She's beautiful and sweet and...owns a crossbow or two but, she's nice. Except when I met her I was different, and I'm not sure entirely how to explain that to her without her thinking I'm a liar or she's the butt of the joke."
This caused Iliana to think. She had only seen him with 2 girls so far, one was a redhead, and the other was Cherise. And when she first met Daniel, he had been someone else and had been with Cherise during the trial. So maybe it was her? Plus Cherise was the daughter of Apollo, whom she knew was into Archery.
~You're talking about Cherise right? I remember you two were in the closet together. Maybe if you start at the beginning on how you became a different person to begin with, that might help? And it looks like your sister, Trinity, and Wesley know what happened to you, so maybe one of them could help? My brother has told me that having those who can back up your statements can be an asset.~
Iliana might not be as smart as her brother, but she was still an observant person. And Daniel was definitely troubled by the idea of Cherise not liking him. Cherise had been in a much better mood after leaving the closet, so she was hopeful things would be fine between the two of them.
Soon those Daniel asked her a pretty personal question. Instead of answering, Iliana avoided it and got her breakfast before returning. His sudden question left her without thought and she tried coming up with an answer. Her attention was diverted when she saw Mason come in quickly before leaving. She was tempted to ask him how Andy was was, but with him in a hurry to leave, she felt it best to let him be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nelly watched as the young woman composed herself and greeted her. She giggled when the woman's stomach growled.

"So how long have you been at this camp? I know I'm a few days late, so I hope I haven't missed anything big."

"I just got here myself the other day, so I was late too. And you've missed a few big things. I've missed some big things here, and not just the past few days. Seems a lot of stuff happened last summer because some campers were here last year and what happened then is affecting events now. So what do you want first? The good, the bad, or the ugly? I can only tell you what I know, which isn't a whole lot unfortunately. Oh before I forget, what's your name and who is your divine parent? Mine is Hermes."

The girl then asked where the food was and Nelly was glad she knew where it was from here. Suddenly Mason showed up and told them where to go. Always wanting to have the last word, Nelly called after him.

"I know where it is, but thank you DADDY!" she yelled with a laugh.

Looking at the new girl, she said, "That's Mason, he seems to think I need a babysister. You best keep an eye on him, he's definitely part of the drama here. Still I don't know what to make of him."

Leading the other demigoddess to the main hall, she saw that Iliana was there with the guy who was with Cherise in the closet. Waving at them both, she led the new girl to the food.

Iliana waved to Nelly as she came in with another new face. She finally came up with an answer for Daniel when suddenly Ajax came in and sat by himself. His angry energy was easy to read and Iliana trembled in fear, trying her best to ignore it, but his angry energy seeped into her pours, making her nauseous. Suddenly a crash was heard and it startled both Iliana and Nelly as they watched Ajax leave the main hall. Iliana didn't want to admit it, but she was relieved when Ajax left because she was about to get sick. Taking deep breaths, she tried calming herself down. This had to stop. There had to be something she could do to help Ajax and Alex. What is was, she didn't know yet. Maybe walking around would help her? Decision made, she turned back to Daniel to finally answer his question and wrote in her notebook.

~Sorry, I wouldn't know who to kiss, I haven't even met everyone yet. Besides, it seems like all the boys I've met here so far are interested in someone and I would never want to step onto any toes. It was nice talking with you, but I am going to go for now. I wish you the best of luck with Cherise.~

With a bow she was soon out the door.

Nelly saw Iliana leave and looked to the guy she had been sitting next to. Looked like he could use some company. Turning to her companion though, she said, "Hey, sorry you had to see that. Things got intense last night. That there was Ajax, and I think he's Zeus's son. Feel free to get your breakfast. I am starved myself."

With that she got her own food and sat across from Daniel.

"Hi there, I don't think we've formally met yet. My name is Penelope Givens, but I prefer Nelly. My dad is Hermes. I saw you were enjoying yourself last night." she said with a grin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iliana was nervous and took slow steps, but then relief filled her when she saw other campers, one of them being Alex. Next to her was Wesley. Trinity was with the other huge demigod and Sylas's sister. Deciding to talk to Alex, the blonde walked toward her and Wes and saw instantly felt her emotions. Guilt, so much guilt. Holding back her own emotions, Iliana quickly addressed both her and Wesley. Going on instinct, she wrote something done.
~Morning. Sorry to interrupt you, but I wanted to talk to you Alex. I don't know if you remember me, we only met briefly before the trial. My name is Iliana and I just wanted you to know that I have problems controlling my powers when my emotions are all over the place. I hope you don't mind me asking this, but do you remember what you were doing before you lost control of yourself? My mother use to tell me that if I knew the cause of what sets me off, I could try to find a way to prevent it from happening.~
Internally, she wasn't sure if this was a true solution. She knew intense emotions set her off, but she still struggled to control her own reactions to them.
The girls were well on their way to training. They had made good use of the area; dusted off all the targets, cleaned it up a bit, and made sure that everything was in working order. They gossipped a little bit here and there, but their goal was to spruce up on their archery and let a little bit of stress go. They even used a bluetooth speaker to put on some sweet, or not so sweet, jams to spice everything up. After all, they were technically working out - drawing bowstrings, running to and from or side-to-side to hit their targets. It's sweaty and tiring work, especially first thing in the morning (thanks Sun child).
Once upon a time, Rae was actually better than her friend. However, over time, Cherise tapping into her godly powers granted her more of a lead. Not that it mattered. They were not competitive. With each other anyway.
For Cherise, this was a good time to think about how she was going to approach Daniel. Keith. Daniel. There must have been a huge misunderstanding sometimes between the day they met and the closet. The closet of which she sort of remembers as pleasant, but she had also been quite intoxicated. Yet, she doesn't remember drinking too much. Whatever. Sometimes she got a little too far ahead of herself, and there's no doubt that the two girls didn't feed off of each other in terms of social drinking. It was a habitual thing.
Rae spent this time thinking about whether or not Pete was still at her cabin. He's cute, kind of a loner - a little less cleanly cut as she normally liked. Probably not, though. While she cared about Cherise's situation, the redhead knows that she already has a few words for their dear Daniel. Kind words in a stern tone, of course. These are the situations that best friends work best. She still needed to figure out whether or not she had to be that best friend, or a nicer one that doesn't scare away all the boyfriends. Not that scaring away boyfriends isn't fun. It is.
Somewhere in her thoughts, Rae lost control of her aim. At first, she didn't think anything of it. Then there was a tweeting noise, and she looked back at Cherise, "Did you hear that?"
The Sun-Child tilted her head, waited a few seconds, and then shook her head. "No, but—my thoughts are in another place. Sorry!"
Just as Rae was going to find the source of what sounded like pained tweets, Ethan and Heath were there. "Morning ladies. Getting some archery in? We were just getting some jogging in before getting some breakfast."
Rae offered them a smile, as did Cherise. They were both friendly people... for the most part. It was decided that the groan must have come from the boys, but then she heard the bird again. "You three will have to excuse me," she informed them as her gaze traveled someplace else for a moment. With her bow in hand, Rae left Cherise with Ethan and Heath.
And that wasn't a problem because Cherise was the friendliest of the two. "Oh, hey guys!" She gave them a genuinely warm smile and nodded to Rae as she announced her departure. "I got my job in a while ago, thank the gods. It's starting to get a little warm."
As Cherise conversed with the two guys, she went around to gather up all of the arrows. "I should probably go get breakfast myself," she mentioned. "You think a ton of people are going to be there right now? I hope not. I'm as friendly as the next person, but I like my breakfast quiet." That was a lie. While the words came out of her mouth pretty easily, anyone with a sense for untruths would know that she was being dishonest. Not that it was a big deal, though.
After she picked up all of the arrows, she counted them to make sure they were all accounted for. Then her eyes traveled in Rae's direction because they were missing one. Maybe the redhead had taken it with her. She didn't think a whole lot of it.
"I can't go to breakfast with all of this, though. Maybe I should go get a shower in." Just to make a point, she lifts an arm and unabashedly sniffs her armpits. No, she didn't smell. She's just trying to buy her time before she had to actually make sense of certain things. Was it really that big of a deal, though? Cherise and Daniel were not an item, per se. She didn't want to cling to the guy. Cherise was not a pleasant clinger, as much as she meant well.
"Actually, I am probably going to go get breakfast now," she sighed and placed the arrows into her quiver, which was then slung over a shoulder. She'd carry the bow for now. "Coming?" she inquired as she began to walk in the direction of the mess hall.
* * * * *
Rae stalked the woods and there a strange feeling that something was wrong crept over her. Her boots lightly and slowly moved across an unbeaten path, cracking twigs and crunching dry leaves that might have fallen about. She took a moment to close her eyes and tap into the visual sense of the nearest living creature, but when her eyes opened the picture was clouded and hazy. It was nearly darkening, and Rae found herself reaching out to touch nearby trees in order to not run into them.
Something about this vision felt horribly out of place, and she blinked once more to snap back to her own sight. She managed to grasp a decent picture of where the creature was, so she used that to eventually find herself where she was supposed to be.
On the ground was a nightingale with one of her arrows pinning the wing to the ground, and Rae looked up upon hearing a series of smaller whistling from apparently more than one source. There, cradled against a tree branch, was a nest. She knelt down and scooped the tiny avian up after she pulled out the arrow. Oh, but she's never been able to heal an animal in her life. What was she supposed to do? She could take her to Cherise, and she made the sound choice that it was her only option. Rae turned and began to go back from whence she came.
That's when her mother showed up; Artemis, blocking her daughter's path. "Going somewhere?" she inquired, her hands calmly placed at the lap of her flowing cream-colored dress.
"Hello, mother. So nice of you to show you care. As I have already shared with you, you're a little too late for mother-daughter talks," she says as a matter-of-factly, and attempted to bypass Artemis by stepping off to the side.
Artemis turned around to look after her retreating child, "You seem to believe that I will stand for your disobedience and your ungrateful little mouth." While the goddess' voice was quite calm, the words were firm and piercing. This was her daughter, and she would have that dominance and authority over her even if it took a harsher tone. She and Rae were very much alike—stubborn to the core, independent of others, and clearly in charge of her own life and destiny with little to no help from anyone. Those were good traits, but she needed further training and Artemis won't stand for any more of that mouth. Rae blamed her for the life that she had to live, but Artemis believed that it built the girl up to who she is now. Had her life been any easier, Rae might not be who she is right at this very moment. Sure, she has some psychological wounds and problems, but they could fix that here. Artemis could help her, but Rae was resistant at every turn.
Rae sighed, still gently cupping the wounded bird in her hands. Ever since she had come to Camp Athens, Artemis has been on her ass and it was getting a little irritating. Who did this woman think she was? Her mother? "What do you want?" she asked as she stopped in her tracks but did not turn around.
That didn't matter because Artemis walked to Rae and eventually moved in front of her. The amiable appearance of this woman made Rae sick to her stomach. The thought that she had a mother through her mess of a life the entire time made her sick.
"I just want you to heal the bird. That's all," she replied calmly and held out her hands to rest them at the knuckles of Rae's. "You injured her, so you heal her."
The truth was that Rae's arrow was never on the direct path to hit the nightingale. It simply wasn't possible. Artemis had caused it, and while it was a sort of twisted thing to do, the bird would be healed regardless of what transpired after. It wouldn't even remember that it has been injured. Perhaps that was cold of the goddess, but she thought that she might have felt a little empathy come from the girl. Just a little. It was just too bad that she had almost zero for humans.
"I'm afraid that I don't know how," Rae confessed.
"Well, my child, if you stop resisting me I can show you," she began, turning away from Rae as if she might leave, "...or you can just run to Cherise and never get better at anything. Your choice."
The Moon-Child was quiet for a few moments, her gaze cast down to the bird in thought. She looked back at the tree with the nest and wondered about this or that. Could she do it? Does she care enough about this little thing to heal it? She picked it up with the intent to bring her to Cherise. Did that mean that she cared?"Fine," she relented.
Liam noticed that Trinity lept out of view via a sudden dash of blond hair behind one of Wes' shoulders. The man just sort of sucked on his teeth for a second and swept his attention to Wes. "Wes, my dude!" he greeted unabashedly, giving poor Wes an all-too hard punch to the shoulder that was meant to be more of a tap, but wasn't.
"I'm guessing you're here for Trinity," Wes assumed with a sigh, and Liam didn't blame him. If that little dash of blond meant anything, it was that Liam is ruining what is probably a lovely morning for the couple. On a normal day, he wouldn't dream of doing something like this, but Sloane was kind of a priority at the moment. Sylas was haunting his mind - especially after Trinity made him feel about one inch tall for not killing the asshole when he should have. He knows something is coming. He can feel it in his gut. Maybe it is his prowess for combat tactic or just some new pervasive fear, but Sylas wasn't going to stay away for very long.
Then Trinity finally emerged. Just to make a dramatic flair of it all, he put a hand against his chest and feigned surprise, "Oh, shit - didn't see you there!" Then he added insult to injury and gave her a really dumb grin, "Nice dress." It was clearly in jest, but Trinity was well within her rights to hate him. Now that he knows that she's his sister, he is also well within his rights to be a dumbass brother. Liam was in no short supply of dumbass.
"This probably requires appropriate clothes. I can meet up with you guys in a minute.” He gave her a thumbs up and then looked at Wes, "She hates me." Yet, it didn't sound like something he was disappointed by. In general, people hate him.
He glanced over Wes' shoulders and kind of winced a time or two as the woman abused the drawers in his room. Then she re-emerged, and he wasn't going to make further jokes about her clothes. Trinity was here to help, and he's more than grateful for that. Teaching women how to fight was not his domain. Teaching anyone how to do anything but pump some iron was not his domain. He could help Sloane with a lot of things, but fighting dirty is a woman deal. He's pretty sure of that, anyway.
“How do we wanna do this, chief?" Trinity questioned, but then she looked over at Sloane.
"I have some thoughts but figure you've been here longer and I don't know shit about this god stuff."As Wes tossed the water bottle, he caught it, popped off the lid, and just about sucked the entire bottle into his mouth. The plastic crinkled, and it didn't appear he took a breath at all. He crushed what wasn't already flattened and started the walk. He let the ladies take the lead and hung around the rear, but still within hearing distance.
"Have you hit someone before, Sloane?" That inquiry seemed to draw Sloane's gaze back to him, and while he wasn't particularly skilled at trying to help one's confidence, he tried. He gave her a thumbs up and a quick encouraging smile. "No, but I've made one person hit another."
He leaned closer to Wes and dropped his tone, "What does it mean when you hit on a woman and the woman you are with is upset by it, but she is still saying that I should do my thing? On a scale of 1-10 - if I stared at another woman's boobs and told her that I would do bad things to her in front of said other woman, how much trouble am I actually in? And should I stay away from other women for the rest of my life?" Whenever Sloane would look back at him, he would just smile at her and pretend like he's not trying to figure her out by talking to someone else.
After a bit of guy talk, Trinity and Sloane seemed to stop and Liam was following their lead. He had intently allowed the two to chat amongst themselves before he approached. "My thought was that we teach her how to defend herself," he advised, looking between Trinity and Sloane. He held both of his hands up, palm out in defense of himself before any questioning begins, "All she has to do is get her hand on someone, right?" he looked to Sloane for confirmation. It all sounded rather simple when she sort of explained it earlier before the party. "We just have to train her to utilize quick defensive movements - brushing a hand away, whatever it may be - to allow her to use her own power to do the fighting for her. I mean, think about it."
Oh, this was going to come out all kinds of discombobulated, but he meant really well. He took a few steps back to avoid the wrath of his own sister, and maybe even a scathing eye from Sloane. "We're on a different playing field. Even in the normal world, people train for years to learn how to fight. We are not going to train Sloane in a day or even a week. She's small, so right there she's disadvantaged against at least more than half of the camp. But she knows her powers, so she just needs to learn how to use them to do the fighting for her. But her power is control over another person. It's no small power. It has... endless uses in a fight. You probably know the folks around here better than me. I think I dropped out of school before I learned anything about mythology. You're more experienced in this area..."
Just as it seemed that he might turn away and let the girls do what they do, Liam slowly turned around. He stared at Trinity for a few quiet minutes. It was really just a couple of seconds, but it felt like a long time. His hands clenched and unclenched as he tried to find a soft way to put this. "She just needs to stop being afraid to do what she has to do. She has no confidence. You can teach someone to fight... but that won't mean anything if... you know..."
He kind of just gave Sloane this cautious sideglance. There really wasn't another way to ease into that. Sloane was meek and gentle, and he wasn't sure that would translate well when it comes down to Sylas. There was no if with Sylas. It was a matter of when, and that could happen anytime. He stepped over to her and gently grasped her right shoulder, "Just tell yourself that today is the day you're not going to take any more shit. You got this," he released her and gave that same shoulder a much more gentle pat than he had Wes earlier.
That said, he turned away and made for that log to plop his ass down.
“If that is what you want.” Her eyes locked on Sylas, very aware of the hand slowly reaching out for her and taking hold of her belt loop. The tug caught her by surprise. “And what if I said... I wanted you to stay.” She let herself be guided nearer watching him cautiously. He could be charming because coming from anybody else that would string together a swoon worthy phrase.
He got as much as any woman could offer him, there wasn't much more to give. Before she could say an unbefitting reply of either sarcasm or snark, she reminded herself, she did a lot of initiation and could only be mad at herself. Evelyn inhaled deeply, bracing her hands on his shoulders, looking at the wall as if mulling over the thought. “I would inquire what benefit you think we can gain from one another by me staying. Then worry perhaps you were getting attached or trying to distort my emotions.” She smirked.
“Plus,” he began softly while his other hand joined to caress her, bringing her eyes back onto him. His touches were as troubling and nice as ever, only now they echoed the sensations he could evoke in her which was much too fresh in her mind and thrilling. “You still have a question to cash in.”
A smile fought its way to her lips not only at what he said but because she thought she'd flushed it all out of her system. Yet, he remained magnetic. To the point she questioned why she put on her pants, and she could easily fall onto his lap. Luckily, some of that magical self-control was back. “I know,” she assured. No sex or being hit by a truck would make her forget that. “But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I have to make it count.” She was only half-joking. While they were alone, it might have been the best time to come up with that question. There were so many curiosities and queries to ask all fighting to the front of her mind. She bit her lip in thought all the while keeping her eyes on Sylas.
Why? kept swirling in her mind. What's the worse he's done? None of them were good enough. “What's the most valuable lesson you've learned in life so far?” Part of her was surprised that's the question that came out but she stuck to it. In comparison, it sounded weak to the fifty questions she could have asked him, not to mention slightly ridiculous but it was relatively significant, offering a slither into the scope of his thinking and potentially, morals or lack of.
Being far more tender than he deserved, Evelyn began to glide her hands along his shoulders and upper arms, studying his expression. The reality was people could lie to her and get away with it as she did not possess the full abilities of Athena, only a likeness. Sylas was himself at the end of the day, a gifted liar and held no obligation. One hand slid up to cup the side of his neck. An affectionate act by appearance, however, a good resting place to feel his pulse and manipulate his nerves, where little indications of a lie could reveal themselves.
Providing he played fair, she would. Not that she thought his hands and their placements were particularly fair.
Evelyn's gaze gravitated to his lips. She found herself leaning in and before their mouths could meet for the umpteenth time that morning, she pushed his chin to the side with her thumb and kissed his neck, more specifically over his pulse point. It was there she placed a curse on him. When he lied his pain receptors would let him know about it, originating from his throat. Short term. Weak. Not enough to interfere with his deceptive statements, only be a nuisance to him. Childsplay really. So now she could try to look at this visit as more than a royal error. One of her legs came to rest upon the bed carefully, followed by the other, virtually straddling Sylas. If he didn't want her there, well, he had shown he was quite capable of moving her with enough ease. She smiled against his skin and drew back.
He should have expected give her an inch, and she'll aim for the mile. “I should get one more request because you've been...somewhat distracting and in a way, I did two favors for you.” Granted both of those also scratched an itch she had, however, it seemed she was playing that card now. “It can be an easy one like a confession of your choice,” she suggested like she was being all so merciful. “You couldn't be afraid to overshare with all that power lurking in your veins.” She knew the chances were slim to none, and frankly, if she wanted more answers from him she probably should have manipulated her luck or placed an anti-silver tongue curse on him because she doubted sweetening him up or challenging his ego would work.
She sighed out coming to give up on the idea and wiggled her hips for the pure purpose to get comfortable and not at all misguide his thoughts. “Part of me is tempted to test your endurance and stamina.” Evelyn let her eyes wander down his appealing body, her hand following the invisible trail her eyes had paved. “But I'd hate to wear you out. Things to do, people to see, I'm sure.” She gave him a conspiratorial look.
Everybody got bored with their favorite toy at some stage and she imagined Sylas wasn't an exception. Though, whether that's what she was regarded as in his mind...who knew. As for her, they both knew she was attracted to him and she needed to dose her one-on-one Sylas exposure because behind closed doors her methods of getting to know him had been...controversial. Impulsive and indulgent. And it was best not to show those colors too often around the charming devil. Besides, he had an experiment to run for her and she needed real food and perhaps a nice long bath. They couldn't get that within his cabin. Not to the full effect anyway.
Evelyn moved away and left his room and found her way to the living room. She placed her hand on top of her mug, initially to place it in the sink so he didn't have to clean up after his guest but froze in contemplation. Her fingers tapped the rim. A sound made her jump back to reality. She carried them to the sink, remaining as simple dishes, in the spoon's case, returning to its original state.
“No,” she answered. Bummer. Trinity’s lips pursed to the side but then Sloane added in. “But I’ve made someone else hit someone.”
Trinity visibly perked up at that. It wasn’t what she was expecting but it was a start. “Well, that's something. How'd you feel afterwards?” Oh, who was she kidding, she was no therapist. Whether they deserved it or not or how Sloane felt was irrelevant to what Trinity really wanted to get to.
“I was actually going to suggest you hit me.” She instantly became aware how much that could have sounded like an excuse for herself to hit something rather than Sloane's benefit. “Or any other person or object. I just think you must be furious about being in your circumstances.” Then again Trinity's go-to emotion was anger and that's what she understood best. Others coped and felt differently. Still, if Sloane wanted to swing, Trinity popped her hands up.
“My thought was that we teach her how to defend herself,” Liam approached. Whether in relation to Trinity's method or it was always his own master plan, Trinity guiltily lowered her hands. “All she has to do is get her hand on someone, right? We just have to train her to utilize quick defensive movements - brushing a hand away, whatever it may be - to allow her to use her own power to do the fighting for her. I mean, think about it.”
She arched a brow and looked back at Sloane to see how it was sitting with her but let Liam carry on in one piece. Along his speech, Trinity's eyes narrowed, particularly at the point of saying Sloane was small and therefore disadvantaged. Buuut he had his points. Obviously, they couldn't train her to be an instant professional fighting machine and defensive gestures to execute her powers seemed the most doable but...there were so many buts. Trinity took in a breath. For one, she was also a high school dropout and maybe she knew more about mythology than him but that was still minimal. Two, wasn't Sloane's parasite brother her biggest threat? Demigods with the same or similar powers often ended up being ineffective against each other.
“Liam..” she began, to fire her uncertainties at him.
He turned back to her. He looked like he had something to say so she found herself waiting. “She just needs to stop being afraid to do what she has to do. She has no confidence. You can teach someone to fight... but that won't mean anything if... you know...”
Again, he had a point but she was right near them. “She needs confidence so I'm going to say this to you and not to her.” Trinity was almost insulted for her, staring at Liam at his audacity then checked on Sloane. Her brother meant well, so did she, but their communication about nine times out of ten needed work. “Right,” Trinity answered.
Then he did thankfully address the lean brunette. It wasn't a big exchange because soon enough he headed for the log again. Trinity stepped up beside Sloane, arms crossed. She had one burning counter-point to let off her chest. “Size doesn't matter,” she told her lowly. It didn't help if you didn't know what you were doing, but, it wasn't as big a disadvantage as people made it. Her boyf-..Wesley's build was fit for fighting yet he hadn't thrown a fist or shoved anyone that she'd seen. All the while, she was quite short and knew how to get in range of her target.
“I guess I'll be guinea pig then.” She clapped her hands stepping in front of the girl now. “Some of us have reflexive powers, but I need to know you're in control of yours.” She wasn't getting voodoo'd for trying to help a girl with her confidence and combat. Unawares anyway.
In the event of accidental power usage, she supposed there was Wes to subdue some nasty effects. When she looked to him, he was busy in conversation with Alex and Iliana. There goes the cavalry. She couldn't look there too long anyway because she wanted to hurt Alex. Very badly for what she did to Andy.
Trinity glanced at Sloane then struck out her hand to clasp Sloane's shoulder seeing the brunette's reflexes and instinct to being grabbed suddenly. People weren't attacked with warning.
Trinity didn't hold her too long. At least she didn't think she did before letting go. From there, Trinity pulled back on her blows so they never made contact giving Sloane ample opportunity to counter or defend as habit, or perhaps as Liam's commentary lead. This continued for some time until Sloane got in a rhythm of hitting Trinity's wrist away. “Perfect.”
She upped the pace and ditched the 'almost contact'. But even Trinity knew the difference between training, a spar, and an enemy battle. She never struck Sloane with an Ares blow. Growing tired of the same riff-raff, Trinity drew Sloane in with the typical pulled punch, set a leg behind hers and threw her hip and shoulder into the girl to put her off balance. She then swiftly spun behind Sloane and wrapped her arm around her neck. Not too tight but she did want to keep the trainee on her toes and aware she had slipped into a vulnerable position. Maybe she should startle the fellow demigod more and tighten her grip...see how she reacted with panic.
“Do you trust him?” she whispered while they were close and released her promptly, stepping away.
“Liam, your turn.” Trinity would play ref for whatever it was worth. She found herself glancing around for Wes. He could probably help with powers and all matters of self-control. Or she could try to train him and convince him to use his powers against demigods for once too.
Wes was happy to linger in the distance as the training commenced. He knew full well this was not his area of expertise but Trinity seemed to want him there. And honestly, Liam looked like he could use the presence of another male to balance the odds out a bit. He couldn't help but quirk a brow when said male seemed to make his way back towards Wes. At first he thought Liam just wished to stand back and watch the proceedings. But when the large man leaned in toward him, his words had a different tale.
"What does it mean when you hit on a woman and the woman you are with is upset by it, but she is still saying that I should do my thing? On a scale of 1-10 - if I stared at another woman's boobs and told her that I would do bad things to her in front of said other woman, how much trouble am I actually in? And should I stay away from other women for the rest of my life?"
Now this was something he did know well, whether or not he liked it. Wes noticed Liam's lingering gazes toward Sloane. A curious predicament. He never would have imagined the two of them together. But opposites attract and for some reason the small awkward brunette vexed him.
Wes tried to keep up the ruse, keeping his face as plain as he could while turning his attention more toward Liam. "Ok, first of all," he started, extending his bionic arm in a cautionary manner. "Whenever a woman says to do what you want, that never means do what you want." Wes chuckled softly. "It means you can do what you want, but if you don't want to piss her off... Do what she wants. Most of the time, the woman is right and we're dumb. Then there's the off chance we're right and that... well that's something else. I haven't even figured out that territory yet." Given his recent circumstances with Trinity he was by no means an expert in trying to convince a woman she was wrong. Sure, they figured it out in the end. But it was a rocky road.
"As for the second part..." Wes sighed. His brows furrowed in sympathy and confusion. "Dude, never ever check out a girl or hit on a girl if you're in the presence of another girl, unless you've explicitly said you are only platonic friends. If you're just wanting a piece of ass, then I suppose you can do as you please. But what you'll need to ask yourself is how do you feel about this girl? And what do you want with her? Because if it's more than just sex... If you really want her, then yes, you'll need to stop looking at other women."
Wes's gaze fell to the ground as he slid his hands into his short pockets with a sigh. "If she's really someone special, she'll consume your thoughts." He slowly looked up, finding his blonde several feet away attempting to train Sloane. "And you won't notice other women."
It wasn't long into the training that Alex seemed to appear from the edge of the woods. Wes inhaled sharply, looking between Alex and Trinity. Not good. "Sorry, you'll have to excuse me," he said to Liam before heading over toward his friend, hoping that Trin was too preoccupied to notice her arrival.
"Hey... I... can I talk to you for a moment? I need some advice and... well, that's not the only reason I want to talk to you. Please." Wes nodded his head but said nothing. He gently took a hold of her arm and lead her further away from the training. Once they were out of ear shot, he released his hold on her. "A part of you probably hates me right now, and I don't blame you, but... I just want to say that I and Ajax are leaving soon and I couldn't leave without saying goodbye to you. I'm going to miss you, cupid."
He didn't like it. His stance probably said that. It seemed as the words left her mouth, Wes crossed his arms over his chest. He sighed. "If that's what you think is best. I know camp has been... difficult for you recently." He didn't know how else to say it, but it was true. Ever since Jennova, it's only gone from bad to worse. "I'll miss you too," his tone was softer as he gently patted her shoulder. "I hope it helps."
"I hope, one day, you'll forgive me." Wes nodded and gave his best smile. In time, he would. But even though Andy wasn't his closest friend, watching his best friend do that to someone left him a bit shook. "I also feel like I should apologize to Andy, but... I don't think it will make any difference with how much she hates me."
Wes inhaled sharply between his teeth. That was a true statement. Neither of the girls were particularly fond of the other, and for good reason on either part. But he wasn't going to voice that. "I don't know Andy well enough to know how that would go over. For that you'd have to ask my girlfriend," he said, nodding his head towards Trinity. It was the moment the word left his mouth that he realized what he actually said. Gods, would she kill him for labelling them like that? He tried not to think about it even though his heart began to race in his chest. "Or Daniel." He quickly continued the conversation. He would have said Mason. To be honest, it seemed the son of Hades knew Andy better than most but he knew that just saying his name would erase any chance at peace.
Before they could talk anymore Iliana snuck up on the pair of them. "Morning. Sorry to interrupt you, but I wanted to talk to you Alex."
He didn't say anything. Wes simply nodded his head while giving both girls a gentle touch to the shoulder. He excused himself and slowly made his way back to the group. When there was a temporary lull in training he passed behind Trin, placing a quick and brief kiss on her head. But he didn't linger there. He simply smiled toward her before making his way back to the log and taking a seat beside Liam.
“I would inquire what benefit you think we can gain from one another by me staying. Then worry perhaps you were getting attached or trying to distort my emotions,” Evelyn said after she let herself be drawn closer to him.
"You speak as though I have an ulterior motive." Sylas's gaze remain fixed on hers while his voice was deep playing into their little game of cat and mouse. He did quite enjoy the chase with her.
He didn't need her words to know that there, in that moment, Evelyn was his. Her words might have said one thing but her body moved with his every touch like it was hungry for more. And while manipulating the hypnotizing red head might have been tempting, he secretly found himself magnetized to her as she was to him. Maybe it was the mystery or her way to see through the veil, if only a little. She was a woman who wasn't scared by the potential beast within, but intrigued by it. That only made him more ravenous.
“I know,” she commented in regards to the question she still had in her arsenal. “But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I have to make it count.”
Sylas smirked slightly watching her nibble at her lip as he could see the wheels turning in thought. Part of him wanted to make another sly comment. Who's to say he hasn't been honest with her thus far? Maybe she thought everything that left his lips was a lie. Or maybe she just wanted this one particular question to count. He couldn't help but find his pulse quicken the longer it took her to think of what she wanted to ask. What could she want to know? And what would she think of his response? This was new territory for him... honesty.
“What's the most valuable lesson you've learned in life so far?” Sylas was surprised at the question, almost expecting something far more personal. He sat there in the silence, mulling over the answers in his head while Evelyn's hands gently ran along his shoulders and down his arms. The tip of his tongue grazed his lips when her gaze fell to them. But just before they could kiss, she guided his head sideways and placed her lips softly upon his neck. All the while, she moved her body ever closer to him until her knees rested on the bed as she straddled him. Once she was settled, he let his hands move to her backside, tugging her closer with a quiet groan.
"I've learned..." Sylas spoke quietly, tilting his head with her tender kisses. He let himself conform to her touch, as his voice grew quiet and serious, a small fraction was perhaps even vulnerable. "That I'm alone in this world." He didn't elaborate. Because it was that plain and simple. He let his gaze fall to hers for a long moment and his face showed the seriousness that was apparent in his tone.
“I should get one more request because you've been...somewhat distracting and in a way, I did two favors for you.” Evelyn's words caused him to chuckle and his smirk regaining it's place upon his lips. “It can be an easy one like a confession of your choice. You couldn't be afraid to overshare with all that power lurking in your veins.”
"She's had a taste and wants more," Sylas said as his smirk grew slightly. If anyone else was there, his comment would seem surface level and merely about sex. But she knew his meaning. Evelyn enjoyed having the power to pull secrets from him, something that seemed unobtainable to most. And she wanted more. "If that is the case, then it's only fair if you confess something yourself."
After a long moment, Evelyn sighed and wiggled her hips, presumably to get comfortable, although it still caused Sylas to raise a curious brow. “Part of me is tempted to test your endurance and stamina.” Her gaze trailed his bare chest while her fingers following suit. “But I'd hate to wear you out. Things to do, people to see, I'm sure.”
"You'd be surprised what I can handle." He remained sitting on the bed as Evelyn retreated. Sylas could have pulled her back and whispered velvet words to persuade her to stay. But instead he watched her exit his room, no shame in taking in her form as she walked.
He waited there, seated on the edge of the bed as he heard her move about his cabin. Sylas ran a hand through his hair as he took a deep breath. His gaze drifted towards the heaps of blankets strewn about the bed and along the floor, his mind letting the events that just transpired sink in. Part of him, wanted to let her leave. Let their moment in bed remain that and nothing more, but something else was drawn to her. Something he couldn't quite explain. She was different than other women. Evelyn challenged him. Her tongue silvered like his own and it was intoxicating.
He hadn't heard the front door, so she still lingered somewhere. Before Sylas could play out the possibilities or think of a plan of attack, he was on his feet, moving toward the door. For a moment he wondered, until he found her standing at his kitchen sink. He didn't announce himself. Quiet footsteps carried him across the room until his bare chest brushed against her back. His fingertips slowly found their way to Evelyn's hips as the tip of his nose brushed along the nape of her neck. "You want a confession?" he purred in her ear.
His voice was deep and graveled in the back of his throat. It was primal, not dripping with honey, but seductive and intense. Sylas's right hand ran up her arm and along her shoulder until it cupped the side of her neck. "I'm dangerous. And you should stay far from me." That was a confession no other would hear. A confession that is a brief glimpse into his true nature and his acceptance of it. Sylas was a dangerous person and he knew it. What they shared couldn't be described. Was it simply a game of discovery? Lust? Something more? They didn't talk about it. But everyday they grew closer. And as much as her curiosity and tests thrilled him, it only drew her closer to a black void.
He did not move, nor release his hold on her. Sylas stood there for a long moment, before he gently turned her around. He kept her there, pinned between himself and the counter, looking down into her eyes. "When I'm around you, I lose reason... Your presence is intoxicating."
“Well, that's something. How'd you feel afterwards?” Trinity said almost like there was some light at the end of Sloane's hopeless tunnel.
She found herself standing there silent with her mouth slightly agape as she searched for a response. "I don't remember... I just know that they deserved it."
“I was actually going to suggest you hit me... Or any other person or object. I just think you must be furious about being in your circumstances.”
Sloane's brows furrowed as she tried to put a finger on how she felt. Anger would be reasonable. That is to be expected. But she had grown used to how Sylas treated her. It was sad, but the truth of it. She knew what the pain felt like, his temper and his reactions. She no longer tiptoed around him to try and not set him off, because if it wasn't one thing it was another. She accepted it.
...Until someone intervened. That's when the fear returned. Before, she could talk back to him and accept her punishment with her head held high. But now, it was bigger than herself. When Sloane was his punching bag. It was contained. She could handle the pain because it was hers to bare. It was under control. And now, Liam was part of it... perhaps even Trinity, Wes and Andy simply because they knew the truth. Whatever courage Sloane once had was gone because whatever misstep she took would no longer be inflicted upon herself... but him. She no longer had control.
But she said none of this, although her face, no doubt, showed how deep in thought she was. "It's fear... Not anger," Sloane admitted, as her gaze fell to her hands. That wasn't something easy for her to admit. No one likes to admit when they are frightened. But this girl she barely knew was trying to help. Liam was trying to help. If she wanted to protect them from her brother, she had to let them help her. And secrecy wasn't the answer.
"My thought was that we teach her how to defend herself." Liam put up his hands in surrender before he continued. “All she has to do is get her hand on someone, right? We just have to train her to utilize quick defensive movements - brushing a hand away, whatever it may be - to allow her to use her own power to do the fighting for her. I mean, think about it.”
While, from a tactical point of view, what Liam said made sense. But Sloane didn't like using her abilities. Sylas did but she didn't. And on top of that, she had only been able to use her abilities on her brother once... once. Not that they knew that. But the moment she did, he knew. It was like an inner alarm went off letting him know that she was there, trying to slip her tendrils around him. And it was hard... Perhaps the most difficult thing she ever did.
"We're on a different playing field. Even in the normal world, people train for years to learn how to fight. We are not going to train Sloane in a day or even a week. She's small, so right there she's disadvantaged against at least more than half of the camp. But she knows her powers, so she just needs to learn how to use them to do the fighting for her. But her power is control over another person. It's no small power. It has... endless uses in a fight. You probably know the folks around here better than me. I think I dropped out of school before I learned anything about mythology. You're more experienced in this area..."
“Liam..” Trinity began to speak, but was cut off.
"She just needs to stop being afraid to do what she has to do. She has no confidence." A lump instantly grew in Sloane's throat as her gaze fell to the ground. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other as she tried not to show her discomfort. It was the truth, she could not deny that. But it still hurt. The words cut deep and it took all she had not to just walk away. "You can teach someone to fight... but that won't mean anything if... you know..." What made it all worse was he spoke to Trinity... Like she wasn't even there. So, rather than be offended, she acted exactly like he did... Like she wasn't even there.
“Right,” Trinity replied briefly.
Sloane didn't move from where she stood, nor look up at Liam as he stepped up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Just tell yourself that today is the day you're not going to take any more shit. You got this."
She listened to his words but once he finished, Sloane shrugged his hand off her shoulder. "I know," was all she said in response, walking away from him and heading out into the clearing.
After Liam left them to take a seat on the log, Trinity joined her. “Size doesn't matter,” she added lowly, concluding the previous discussion. It wasn't much, but it was enough to make Sloane smile and remove a little of the chip on her shoulder that Liam, so kindly, put there.
“I guess I'll be guinea pig then.” Trinity clapped and moved in front of her. “Some of us have reflexive powers, but I need to know you're in control of yours.”
"I can control them," Sloane said in a factual way. This she knew for certain. She learned to do this years ago with her mother's aid and used this to refrain from using her powers all together. But she understood Trinity's concern and would not question it.
Then, quickly without warning, Trinity's hand reached out and grabbed her shoulder. Sloane was practically trained not to fight back or flinch whenever Sylas lashed out. So, contrary to what most might think, she didn't flinch nor blink. Her brow's furrowed as her gaze fell to Trinity's hand. It took a second or two before she realized what the blonde was trying to do. "I've uh... gotten used to it. Sorry... You want me to dodge or... something?" she asked rhetorically and then smacked the hand away.
It seemed the moment she pushed Trinity's hand away another came back faster. Sloane faltered a lot in the beginning, her reactions were delayed or she barely used any effort to push the girl away, not wishing to hurt her or be too forceful. But it seemed like the more she did that, the harder and faster Trinity went. It pushed her. Until it was almost subconscious to shove the hand away, not particularly worrying about how hard she went. Her form was not good and it would, by no means, block a real hit. But she wasn't standing still like a punching bag waiting for her punishment.
“Perfect.” The pace got faster. Trinity no longer withheld her hits. There were going to be bruises in the morning, Sloane was sure of that. But she tried to match the pace. Sometimes she missed, but sometimes she actually deflected. Then things shifted and before she knew it, Trinity's leg was behind her, knocking her off balance. Sloane stumbled backwards, but not for long before the blonde was behind her with an arm around her neck. She was standing on her tip toes, barely, without a clue how to get out of the hold. Part of her didn't want to hurt her, but this was all a test.
Sloane contemplated kicking Trinity in the knee or biting her arm, but before she could do either, she spoke to her lowly so that only she could hear. “Do you trust him?”
She hesitated for a moment, trying to figure out who Trinity meant. But then her gaze fell on Liam. Sloane swallowed before answering. "Yes..." She said quietly. His bedside manner needed some work... a lot of work. But even though she hadn't known him for long, he meant well. If he didn't, he wouldn't have gone to Trinity for help. And maybe that womanizing part of him was doing it hoping it would get him laid, but he was still helping her. Although something in her gut told her, that that wasn't it. Maybe part of it was her projecting her own emotions on him. But she didn't have time to think about that, not at that moment.
She shook off the thoughts after Trinity released her from the hold. Sloane sighed softly as she brushed loose hairs behind her ears. “Liam, your turn.”
"Wait, what?" Sloane quickly pivoted, looking towards a retreating Trinity. That was barely enough practice for her to be ready to go against... well, anyone, let alone a man over twice her size who could break her with a sneeze. She didn't argue. But she didn't like it. Instead she remained where she stood, twiddling her fingers, trying not to look nervous.
Mason seemed to have zero problems with going to get her food and clothes, which only made Andy feel worse. Knowing him, he blamed himself. She was in the closet with him and he was the one who had bad blood with Alex... worse than her own anyway. But there was nothing she could do to stop him. A strange foreign feeling she didn't enjoy. Useless.
"I'll be quick. What do you want?"
Andy hated being the person who abused a gift and at that point, she could eat anything. "Just something... bread. Toast, bagel, whatever. And a piece of fruit." To be honest, she listed off the first things she could think of. Something quick that he could grab, because she didn't want to be alone in that place any longer than she had to.
By herself, she sat there in silence. Andy combed her memory of what happened the day before. Part of her ached, not from the lightning, but from before. She had no idea where all her indecisive feelings came from. They seemed to appear almost over night. When you're in love, you weren't supposed to have feelings for someone else. But there it was. She felt guilty about it. Mason was there for her, always. No matter if they were just fighting or vowed to never speak again. If she needed him he was there. He always put her first. And to Ajax she was first... After Alex.
Andy never blamed him for that. Alex was family and she was just... some girl. But it seemed like each time it happened, it hit a little deeper. She thought maybe, this would be the difference. If it wasn't murder, then his sister nearly killing her would be the one time she'd come first. But still... he wasn't there. Worst of all, she found herself staring at the entrance, hoping that Ajax would come through. That he'd prove her wrong.
Her lips clenched as she tried to sniff back the tear that ran down her cheek. Luckily, she managed to wipe it away just as Mason came walking back in with a bag and food in tow. "Hey. How'd I do?"
Andy smiled, trying not to sniffle. "It looks great. Thank you."
He set down the bag and food before coming to her side. "Come on, sit up." He offered her his arm for support, which she used but her movements were slow. So, rather than letting her suffer through it, Mason lightly wrapped his arm around her. She rested her chin on his shoulder as he lifted her in a gentle hug to help her sit up. Andy quickly blinked back the tears and took a deep breath while her face was hidden, trying to keep her emotions in check. Then by the time he pulled away she was smiling once again. "Good girl."
Afterwards, Mason even moved the tray over to her so she could eat. Andy rested her hand on top of his while he still held the tray before he could withdraw. "Thank you for being here." She had already said it before and she was probably going to say fifty more times before she got out of the infirmary. His support meant more than words could say and if the only way she could show it was by saying 'thank you' too many times, then so be it.
Before her was a bagel and an apple, which Andy was all to happy to dig into. A few bites in, she held out the other half of the bagel to him. "Here... I won't take no for an answer." She waited there with her arm outstretched until he took it, which was quite a feat considering how sore she was. But she was stubborn. Mason knew that. She also made sure that every other bite of her apple she passed it off to him. Regardless if he admitted it or not, he also needed to it. Andy wouldn't have him withering away while he nursed her back to health.
Once she was done, Mason seemed to grow nervous as he reached down and picked up the bag. "I thought it was better to get fresh...everything. I tried to get clothes that weren't too clingy but they all looked the same to me. I can get some staff to help you get changed or find Trinity?"
Andy opened the bag and sifted through what he brought. When she came upon undergarments, her cheeks instantly flushed. She swallowed and took a deep breath before looking up at him and smiling. "It's perfect. I'll be ok. I need to try doing it on my own." She was determined not to be entirely useless. Even if she spent all her energy just changing. But this was something she had to. At least, try on her own.
She pulled out the baggiest clothes she could find and laid them on the bed beside her. Andy slowly and carefully draped her legs over the edge of the bed one at a time. She felt like she was moving slow as the grave, but she was doing it. Once there, she paused for a moment to take a breath then grabbed the sweatpants. Luckily, a hospital gown made it easy for her to pull them on to her thighs. She then, cautiously stepped off the bed. For a moment she lost her balance, grabbing Mason's arm for stability.
She stood there for a moment or two until the room stopped spinning. "It's ok. I got it," she quickly reassured him before she let go. It took a little work and wiggle but she managed to get the pants on. Andy turned her back to Mason before she tried to reach behind her back and untie the gown. Her hand could barely reach up to her hip before she got a sharp pain in her ribs. She took a deep breath and tried again with her other arm to no avail. "Dammit," she cursed under her breath. For a long moment, she stood there with her face in the palm of her hand trying not to have a melt down about not being able to take off a damn gown.
Her face quickly grew red. She knew what she had to ask but was too embarrassed to speak up. It took her a couple minutes to finally open her mouth and speak. "Can you untie this... please?" she asked quietly, unable to look back at him.
Kohana froze a little as what Nelly said actually dawned on her. Hermes? She looked wide-eyed at Nelly as she responded to a passing camper. This has to be the person Hermes was referring to! She can probably do everything I can! As she was about to share her parentage, Kohana hesitated. If they shared a father, then this meant that they were sisters; they were technically family. She started to feel a knot form in her stomach, wondering how much Nelly knew of Hermes's past. Recalling how long it took for her to find out that she had divine parentage, she wondered if Hermes even bothered to alert Nelly. As the woman turned back to her and explained the other camper, Koa zoned back in. Not wanting to be rude and to buy herself some time, she replied, "A babysitter huh? I'll be sure to watch out. It's my first day and that'd be a bit soon for drama. My name is Kohana by the way. Friends can call me Koa."
She walked behind Nelly as they made their way to the food. Her stomach growled as she gazed at the spread laid out. Oh I'm going to love it here. A sudden crashing sound jerked Koa out her trance and back to reality. She watched the guy storm out the hall. "He aha lā…(The hell…)" She shook her head as she wondered how upset they'd have to be in order to waste good food like that. "Hey, sorry you had to see that. Things got intense last night. That there was Ajax, and I think he's Zeus's son. Feel free to get your breakfast. I am starved myself." Koa smiled and replied, "It's fine. A shame he wasted good food though." Kohana grabbed a plate after Nelly helped herself. She grabbed some oatmeal topped with sliced banana and nuts, a bowl of fruits with some yogurt and granola, water, and a couple small protein shakes. With her plate full and a handful of drinks, Koa turned. She looked around, searching for her new friend (and relative). Once she spotted Nelly, she walked over. Placing her things down, she smiled at the camper across from them.
"Hi there, I don't think we've formally met yet. My name is Penelope Givens, but I prefer Nelly.""And I'm Kohana." Koa started to eat as Nelly continued her conversation with the other camper, biding her time until she could speak with her about their shared parent.
Image He wasn't above whining and he could have whined when Iliana didn't play the game properly. Daniel wanted to push it, to emphasise, "somebody has a gun to your head and tells you to kiss one person" but she dismissed herself. And all within reason too after Ajax's scene. Through all that though, she left him with one powerful thought I wish you the best of luck with Cherise.
He smiled and gave a little wave goodbye. After only seconds, Daniel rested his chin in his palms, hitting his cheeks gently. Cherise, Cherise, Cherise. That beautiful little slice of heaven. Daniel smiled imagining himself trying to use one of those corny lines on her and the banter that would start from it.
Somebody shifted and Daniel brought himself back to reality to sight a redhead sitting across from him and another girl. "Hi there, I don't think we've formally met yet. My name is Penelope Givens, but I prefer Nelly."
"And I'm Kohana."
"Kohana," he repeated. "Is that an islander name? It's way too mystical to come from New York." It just sounded like a name where culture was still alive.
"My dad is Hermes. I saw you were enjoying yourself last night."
His eyes bounced between them as they talked and he beamed. He liked the company already since grinning and initiating non-dramatic conversation was rare. "Of course, that's what a party's for. I'm Daniel. I'm one of Hecate's kids." He stood up and reached over the table to shake each girls' hand. Providing they weren't too consumed in their food which he would forgive. "Are you two twins?" He grinned at the joke.
"How'd you find the night anyway, Nelly?" Part of Daniel wanted to say parties weren't always like last night but that’d be a lie. They always ended with a boom. Literally something had to be broken or the skies crack open with thunder and lightning.
"So being one of Hermes kids have you ever been to prison?" He laughed then returned to a slightly more serious get to know questions. Slightly. "What do you do with all that speed on your side? I would love to be swift and deft in everything I do, you could get away with a lot. Illusions and conjurations are so easy to point the finger at." Especially considering Andy was a lot more sensible with her powers and...as a person in general. Then again, he wasn't one to shy away from the dreaded pointed finger and blame. The initial reactions to his pranks and training scenarios were worth it. Honestly it was plain good to be him some days.
He looked around the hall. People must have been off doing their own thing or he was that distracted staring at his breakfast he missed people coming in and out before Ajax. "Would you like to be training buddies today? Or if you've got friends, you know, invite them along, we'll make our own group." Out of the blue as it seemed it was still totally valid to the girls sitting across from him. Daniel may have had one or two things to do before the power parade started, but it was no less legitimate.
Listen, the guy isn't going to earn the Man of the Year award, so the fact that he downright likely insulted, degraded, or what have you, Sloane in the presence of others wasn't something that he was capable of being aware of. Even with the girl he liked he couldn't muster a good white lie. Why sugar coat things? The man's love is tough, and that's just that. Take it or leave it. At the same time, for some reason, he couldn't bring himself to say it to her face. Maybe some part of him was beginning to develop empathy afterall. His ability to fuck up in words and action is just something that comes second-nature to him, so he's learned to ignore the signs of people's irritation. Or just got used to them? He doesn't know.
Regardless, he was drawn into the very perplexing conversation of women with Wes. His expression was probably priceless, and he didn't have any words to counter. Why did women have to be so damn confusing? He never understood why anyone would say one thing when they meant something else, and he is left kind of wondering if he was really an asshole, or if women were just too finicky. Nah, he's a dick.
As Wes departs with Alex to have whatever kind of conversation they'd have, his eyes moved toward Sloane and Trinity. The man tried to hide some of his winces, a bit scared that Trinity might accidentally hurt the meek female. He leaned forward, one hand balled up into a fist and against his other palm, elbow pinned to thighs that were spread apart. There was a point where he felt like Sloane might be holding back, and he watched as Trinity pressed here more and more. It took all his mental strength to not yell at Sloane in that overbearing coach kind of way because that would further paint him in a bad light.
He got really caught up in the whole exchange, which led him down the dark valley of this own thoughts. He was staring but not really attentive to what was going on anymore. For a few minutes, or however long it was from the moment Wes left him to the moment in which Trinity was pulling him away from the dark well of his thoughts, it had been quiet. Liam loathed the silent moments because he had a lot of thoughts that liked to plague him.
He's also still trying to process Wes' advice, which is not easy for a man like him to hear or decipher.
“Liam, your turn,” a voice slipped into his mind like a distant echo, and even though he was staring straight at the blonde, it took more than a few seconds to react; much less respond.
He placed his palms onto his thighs, pushed his tall broad figure to his feet, and traversed the short distance between him and a rather intimidated Sloane. See, Liam still had rules in life and one of them did include not hitting females. Well, there was those moments with his mother, when he was in a rage over his father's death. So, as he stares down at this female before him, he is uncharacteristically quiet. His teeth clenched together which pulsed the muscles of his jaw, and he closed his eyes to draw in a deep breath.
He wasn't going to hurt her like he did his mother. He was, at the very least, better than that now. Sloane didn't piss him off. Then again, neither did his mother. She was just a victim of this strange innate and uncontrollable rage. Still, he's better than that than he was years ago.
He hopes.
It was time to put emotions aside and do what needs to be done. That's what an Ares child does. That's what Ares does. Love him or hate him, he always gets the hard jobs done regardless of how others feel about his actions. It can be said that Liam is very much the same, and teaching Sloane was a chore; not because of who she is, but because he really didn't want to be the one doing it. The physical part. It freaked him out.
He breathed in through his nose and out, and his eyes remained closed for moments longer. Something began to feel different. Off. His aloof air started to churn and something darker leaked rapidly from his core. It's an emotion so powerful that one could feel it creeping upon their flesh like tiny gooseflesh and bristling the hairs on the backs of their necks. His breathing becomes labored, and veins that were not initially raised did so. Sloane, being closest to him, would feel it strongest. It would likely ignite her fight or flight instincts.
It's rage. Pure, uncensored, surprising, scary rage. Yet, it was not his.
"Don't run," he states. Actually, that's putting it lightly. It's a gruff demand as the metaphorical tendrils of this emotion slither toward her and seemingly encompass her. That is - if she chose to stay anyway. It would only take a small taste of his power to conjure up the moments in her life when she felt scared, but also... angry. Resentful, maybe. It didn't matter if it was because of him, her brother, or whatever else. It only mattered that these emotions do exist and that they are powerful, and that in moments of her life, rage might have been cleverly disguised as helplessness. These moments, if they existed and however many there were, would swiftly flood Sloane.
He could do this because this is a controlled environment. Trinity could reel him in if he took it too far, and the possibility was there. It's always there with an Ares child. They tend to hurt the people they care about the most.
"Look at yourself," he issued another demand, this time Liam watched her. "Look at all the ways you've made yourself a victim. You. Not your brother, not me. You make yourself weak. No one else can do that for you. Who are you, Sloane? Is this the real you? Is this how you're going to live the rest of your life?" He stepped toward her slowly, and if she hasn't run away or completely shut down his power somehow, the way his manipulations penetrated her only dug in more deeply and harshly.
So, he's probably going to be sleeping alone in his cabin tonight, but if he gets through to her then he'll just have to deal with it.
When his words revealed he was alone, traces of playfulness, taunting, all of it dissipated. A valuable little slice of information but also...sad. Independence was fine but to be truly alone was a great pity and morphed a person. Evelyn didn't want to offer too much sympathy, nor appear too off-guard and there were still many things to learn, so she found her ability to press on until they resumed their usual way.
She stiffened and barely masked a gasp of surprise as Sylas appeared behind her soundless. His chest touched her back and fingers slid to her hips. “You want a confession?”
She didn't reply, only remained frozen in place, somewhere torn between anxious and excited about what would follow. He knew what she wanted. One of his hands travelled up her arm to the cup the side of her neck. She swallowed a newfound lump in her throat and for a second, she closed her eyes almost surrendering to his touch. “I'm dangerous. And you should stay far from me.”
Her brows drew together and she forced herself to stop melting into him. She didn't try to escape his hold or the non-existent space between them. It wasn't a shocking revelation as such. Somewhere she knew Sylas's potential was always dangerous but the fact he had to give her that reminder proved how over her head she was. “I know,” she whispered, more to herself than him. She should have run for the hills. Let him find some other person to seduce and allure.
He gently turned her around and Evelyn met his eyes straight away. “When I'm around you, I lose reason... Your presence is intoxicating.”
It was hard to look somewhere else within reason, but that didn't stop Evelyn from turning her head away. She needed to slip away or at least into the public eye again where she could find her own reason and sense. Fine, a confession for a confession and she'd hate herself later for it. “I'm uninhibited around you. It's thrilling and I feel insatiable and vigorous.” Altogether he was an addictive and intoxicating blend himself and part of that were due to the darkness and danger he posed.
She found the courage to gaze up at him again. “You’re forbidden desires wrapped in one package. I should stay away....I should,” she whispered. Yet, one arm slid to the back of his neck and her fingers played through his hair. Evelyn raised to her tiptoes while pulling him towards her slightly. Don't! The sharp order from the rational part of her brain caused her to pause painfully close to getting what she wanted. Evelyn sighed out and shrank back down to original height, replacing her hand to lightly press on his chest, asking for space.
“Let me summarise this. You so charmingly implied you may want me to stay, but you admit you are dangerous, and I should do the exact opposite. You can see how that's rather cruel of you.” Not to mention him trapping her between his body and the counter didn't leave her much room to escape. What they wanted and what was best for her were two very different things, but it was on her to look after her own welfare.
She looked him over, her eyes all but devouring him. “You are wickedly tempting. But you already know that don’t you?” she arched a brow and smirked slightly. “Now, unless you plan on keeping us cooped up all day, I’m going to go fulfil other basic needs. And you should put on some clothes before there’s a chance of burning more daylight.” Once was enough, there was a whole expression about being fooled twice. Evelyn brushed by him letting her palm drift along his stomach as she passed. A little last touch for the devil in her.
Finally, she reached the door where safety was on the other side.“Thank you again for...everything.” A degree of power may have been forfeited to him during their time, but it didn't make it any less good for her to unwind. Plus, she obtained his warning and admittance that he's alone.
Evelyn opened the door enough for her frame to get by. “I'll see you around, Sylas.” She smiled at him over her shoulder and closed the door behind herself. The camp was large but there was no denying the likelihood of other encounters. Even when she wisened up and tried to avoid him.
Once outside, alleviation came. Along with some sense knocked into her harder than she'd like. Evelyn peeled off her cardigan to relieve her of the temperature and nerves that had kept climbing in the son of Eris presence. She knew Sylas was bad news. It's not like she fully fell for the belief that he was harmless and now there was no room for delusion. She sighed out and rubbed her neck. “Idiot,” she muttered.
Almost absently, Evelyn was able to travel to the hall, make herself a single slice of toast and sink into a chair. Beyond that she didn't touch her food, only stared off vacantly.
Trinity jumped a little when of all things a kiss was placed on her head, mid-training. She watched Wes for a moment or two then decided to join him since Liam tag-teamed in. She had a thought to ask what Alex wanted but she knew how it’d come out…all accusing and nosey. She sighed out instead watching her brother interact and train with Sloane. “Isn’t this nice? Demigods training to fight and defend themselves with powers.” No doubt he got the hint she was dropping, subtle as ever. She turned to him, grabbing his hand tightly. “Lie to me at least and tell me you’ll use your abilities on threats.” She was begging him beyond what he could comprehend. If Sloane could make people battle and fight for her then that meant her counterpart could do it too. She wanted Wes to be predator before he became prey and if he only used his abilities she wouldn't have to worry about him. He could get away from situations unscathed. His application could be amazing.
As usual, Trinity was the one that couldn’t let it go. But not in her usual pestering way. “Since we’re here how about you teach me something. Anything,” she said looking him over and smiled. Since they were so opposite, he must have had something worthy of note. Some nifty talent to share. An aspect of combat to consider or something non-combat-related. Trinity was open to most experiences.
“You could probably teach Sloane a thing or two. Liam reckons she needs confidence and I feel like you'd be good at drawing that out of her.” Whether it was through conversation or quickly learning her area of strength. Wesley was good at people. Though paying a glance back at the training pair, she became glued to the scene and slightly worried. Initially about her brother’s methods and the anger exuding from him, him going too far but if Sloane felt threatened and pissed and could mind warp him…or even hit him… Part of it would be comical to see but how Liam responded was anyone’s bet. She couldn’t interfere preemptively though, only trust him for now and wait for things to unfold.
Then the girly thoughts entered. Sloane literally told Trinity she trusted him - and yes Trinity got her brother's angle, they needed to see something more from Sloane, no more pulling back and timidness - evidence that she would defend herself as seen fit. But when a man of his stature was looming over her and turning into rage, and counted as a friend over foe... That trust just might be put into question. Sylas hits her, she gets fearful, and Liam now looks like he could finish her with a simple swat. She felt for the girl but knew this extra push might be for her own good.
Trinity pulled their joined hands onto her lap, looking for a mild distraction. She cleared her throat. “You know your other friend suggested I help her with her own emotions? Umm, Iliana. I think you should start offering your service as a counsellor or trainer so people know you're the productive one.” Because the daughter of Ares sure as hell wasn't the best choice for these kinds of scenarios.
There was no dodging the real anxiety in front of them however and she couldn't have been the only uneasy one. “What do you think of this? Who are you taking if things go south?” She nodded towards Liam and Sloane. Because while it wasn't ideal, she may have to follow big brother's footsteps on this one to get something out of Wes.
Image "Alex isn't with you?" He stopped what he was doing to look at her, insulted at first maybe then just shrugged. She certainly wasn't in his pocket and with Alex, you knew when she was around. "I really don't feel like getting deep into conversation and training only for her to steal you away, as she often does with my other conversational partners. What is it with some people that they feel they are so entitled? It's annoying."
Despite the irritation shining in her voice, he smiled slightly. "I couldn't tell you." He knew it existed but why people threw their nose in the air and thought they could away with what they wanted. "Maybe it's a new hobby? Which is a lesser evil." Better than fighting and hurling lightning at someone anyway.
With Liv's aid he got the gym back in shape, including the heavier barbell and weights attached. It wasn't a big deal but still, he drew away glancing at her. "Do you know what's sad about that?" he pointed to the barbell. "That's the greatest display of teamwork I've seen in a while." Like he said, sad.
He naturally fell in step with the daughter of Poseidon as she headed out. "You know, I've been meaning to train with someone like you. If you think about it, you're kind of like the Yin to my Yang in terms of godly power."
He nodded his head side to side. "It's not the worse idea. Besides, I suppose your options are pretty limited if you're looking to train with the opposite elements." Behind his mock approval and smile there was uncertainty. Duke was always up for a challenge and bettering himself and others but there were a lot of variables when exercising their yin/yang powers.
As if to make matters worse, she turned to him. "I hope you like the beach," she said with a ridiculous gesture yet somehow wicked. They were going to walk right into her advantaged territory were they? She muttered something else, that Duke only half caught about swimming. He trusted pools and lakes but a beach had tides of varying strengths and this beach now had a daughter of Poseidon to rule it.
"That's cute, Liv. Tell me what do you get out of being in home-field advantage? Because I'm starting to feel a little like this training is more for me." Of course he didn't mind being challenged because most the time you could only evolve from failure. Or drown in this specific instance.
They drifted to the set destination and Duke's pace unwillingly slowed in the sand and he crossed his arms. He couldn't quite decide entirely whether he trusted Liv or not. In his eyes, she was one of the more mature demigods but there was something about her. The muttering that sounded like threats, the state of the gym...
He lifted a hand trying to summon a small flame. Some assurance that his powers hadn't suddenly left him. It was only heat at first giving him time to frown then his fingers lit up with flame, flickering uneasily in the beach breeze and damper conditions. He closed his fist extinguishing them before they disappeared by other means. Then his eyes wandered over to Liv. In a show to overcompensate his hesitance, Duke walked straight for the water. He took off his shoes and shirt, dumping them on the sand and marched through the dreaded element until it turned into wading his way further away from the shore. If the tide picked up or a powerful wave came then he'd be in a bit of trouble but it was manageable for now. Beaches normally had patterns to follow.
ImageMason smiled a genuinely warm and knowing smile. Because he knew how stubborn she could be for one and how genuine she was in her excessive thanks. Anybody else and this might have been a painful role for him, a role he would bail on but he couldn't leave Andy on an infirmary bed or apparently to eat alone. At first he stared at the food offered his way ready to equal her stubbornness. "Here... I won't take no for an answer."
Seeing as she wouldn't budge, Mason obliged with a roll of his eyes and took it. "You know you need the calories more than me," he said and ate what was given his way to satisfy her.
Upon the bag search, Mason did his best to avert her gaze. "It's perfect. I'll be ok. I need to try doing it on my own." Mason sighed out relieved she took it well then nodded understanding about her trying to do it herself.
She moved like a tortoise or more realistically like someone who went a round with the daughter of Zeus. He pressed his tongue to his cheek watching Andy move about slowly all to get some damn sweatpants on. He may have looked impatient and frustrated but Andy wasn't the reason. It was those damn Zeus spawns doing this to her. She stood up slowly, Mason's eyes remaining on her like a hawk. When she staggered he reached out for her the same time she used him for stability.
"Andy.." he began to check if she was alright.
"It's ok. I got it," she assured. Mason carefully returned his arms to his sides, their definitions of ok apparently different. But she already knew what crappy condition her body was in and he didn't need to rub it in with his usual crude self. He shuffled back letting her continue her struggle until some form of resolution came, only for another to begin.
She turned her back to him and began to reach for the ties of her gown. He huffed out a laugh. He got it, she had to play big girl and dress herself but if struggling with her pants was hard enough, doing the whole top half would be a bigger trial. It would take two seconds for the girl to borrow some help and nobody would think less of her. With a smile in place Mason turned his back too as some extra assurance. And he waited and waited. Mason spun around and was about to ask her about getting that help again but Andy spoke first. "Can you untie this... please?"
Mason did a double-take. "Sure." He approached Andy and carefully untied the strings, afraid to so much as brush her skin. How did he breach the subject he desperately wanted to avoid. "Did...I...." Mason sighed out as the knots came undone. Andy had been through a lot, that was hint enough in her asking for him to help her. He decided no mentioning of Ajax on his end. "I've never seen you fight like that before," he said instead. Andy wasn't just defending herself but fighting back.
Mason looked her over only to realize he remained close behind her. She wasn't his to admire. He turned on his heels giving her back her privacy and space. "We never really got to talk much after that whole bullsh-...the trial. After Alex's trial. What I said to you was crap. I'm sorry I said what I said and how I spoke to you. I meant the whole Jennova and looking into your memories thing but... With Hades gone, that leaves....a big role to fill. I'm not going now - especially not now but someday..." It wasn't often Mason was stuck for words but apologizing and thanking and confessing a reality at the same time was a foreign language. "I know Hecate lives there too and she can manage things for a while but she doesn't deserve the duty to be thrown on her eternity. She didn't do anything wrong. I was thinking we could try make a device. Something that lets me travel freely between the Underworld and here because...I don't want to be there forever. Every second of every day and Gods are Gods. For all I know Zeus could seal me in there or Hades as some last trap sprung on me."
He shook his head looking back at her. Andy probably didn't need to hear his problems right now. Again, his timing was off. "Sorry. I know you have your own stuff to deal with. Just...wanted to come clean and wonder if that's something you'd be comfortable with doing when you've regained your strength."
So there they were, in the domain of Liv. This was, perhaps the one place where she felt unconquerable, but her father's deeply scathing words had made her feel like she didn't belong in the majesty of the deep blue. Yet, as she stood in the sand and the crisp morning ocean breeze hit her nostrils, she was reminded that this was her space. No one could take away anything from her while she was here. Not even daddy dearest. Especially him.
Having seemingly gone from sweet to unabashedly deviant, she let her eyes roam when he pulled his shirt off. After all, she's a woman that could admire a man's body, and he was offering her the view - whether he believed so or not. Liv was very unashamed about it.
"Such a shame, really," she spoke, gently placing a fingernail between her teeth as she stares him down, but fails to offer any context for her commentary.
Once he turned his back toward her to begin his valiant march toward the gentle tides of the shore, that amiable smile of hers departed. It was as if, in that very moment, thoughts slipped into her mind that were of ill intent. She spared a glance over both of her shoulders, checking to make sure that there were no witnesses to anything. The gods may be watching, and maybe they should because anything could happen here, and no matter what Duke wanted to bravely tell himself - water always triumphs over fire. Always.
After she kicked off her shoes and peeled away her leggings, she was in nothing but her sports bra and some dark underwear. She didn't mind at all because she had better things to think of, and he's probably seen a woman's body before. It's nothing surprising. That, and Liv has never been anything worth staring at for a long period of time. She's petite and short, and all those womanly curves could hardly compete with your average woman.
She slowly walked to the shoreline, dipping her toes in to test the temperature. Warm as always. Then she began to slip further in, and when she could submerge herself - even if she could still stand - she dipped under the water. The way she swam was quiet yet swift, and before Duke knew it, the moment he thought to look down he'd see a full head of hair emerging from the surface followed by Liv rising in rather close proximity to him. Nearly touching, actually. No personal space granted. Everything about this picture looked really wrong from afar, and if a certain pair of eyes saw it - well, Liv might be sitting in a trial of her own. What was he going to do about it? Go back further into the ocean he's so scared of? Maybe that's what she secretly wanted - to be trouble because being good wasn't getting her in her father's good graces. She wanted to learn more, do more, and unfortunately that meant changing for the worse.
It wasn't until she was up close to him that she could appreciate that he is taller than her. Broader, too. She's so tiny compared to so many people here, but size wasn't everything. He'd learn that in a few minutes, but first she has to get something off of her chest since it is just them two. She doesn't quite know why, but she feels like Duke can be trusted.
"My father says that I'm not the daughter that he wanted. That... I could never be better than his sons," she began, tilting her head slightly to look the man in his eyes. That is, if he hadn't run out of the water yet. "I found myself wondering what kind of person my father wishes me to be. Then it dawned upon me as I watched my conversational partner be stolen, when I was having a good time - or when I was just trying to be a decent person. I let you all walk over me." As the words leave her lips, she pressed her chest against him to begin forcing Duke to step back. They had a long way to go before there was a sudden drop off and he would have to swim, but for now... she's just making some things perfectly clear. "First, Trinity, then Alex... and who's going to be next? I suppose that I've been going about dealing with you all the wrong way. Gods fear my father, and... I am beginning to believe that the iron fist rules mightiest than the velvet glove."
The daughter of Poseidon continued to press him further and further into the deep. She stopped them both just as the reached that sweet spot where she knew one more step back would feel like the ground has sunken beneath his feet, and then he will be in real trouble. Everyone here always expected that they would drown from her power, but the ocean is so much more than just water. Something... undeniably serpentine made a pass at one of his ankles, and by the way it slid across his flesh it was certainly something long and threatening.
She lifted a hand to the side of his face and cupped it gently, "Oh, Duke - there's so much more to fear than drowning. The children of Poseidon command all in the sea's domain." Then she pushed him against his chest hard, hopefully to send him plummeting into the water because there is no more ground to walk on. As his body submerges, he'd find a nightmarish swarm of sea snakes - long, venomous, schooling like a dark cloud in the deep blue.
She turned away from the scene, content that news of this might reach the ears of the people she'd like for it to. Yet... she trusted him, for some reason, and maybe he wasn't one of them. She turned back around, watched the scene unfold, and found herself curious about how he would handle it. If she should intervene. If she was too harsh. She didn't know - her emotions were mixed. He'd be a good ally to have if anything were to happen, but she had already spilled everything out her mouth in a horribly threatening way, and he must know that she meant every word of it.
Regardless, he wanted training, so here it is - snakes, drowning, and a potentially wicked Poseidon daughter in the making.
Wes wasn't sitting alone for long before Trinity passed Sloane off to Liam and decided to sit beside him. "Isn’t this nice? Demigods training to fight and defend themselves with powers."
He let out a soft sigh, with an eye roll, even though he still had a smile on his face. "You know, you're not subtle."
Trinity didn't seem to be letting the conversation end there. She turned around and took ahold of his hand, gripping it tightly. "Lie to me at least and tell me you’ll use your abilities on threats."
He knew she was just worried about his well being in the face of imminent danger. The last time they were in a battle for their lives he lost an arm, and he could tell she was worried he'd lose more... like his life. "I used them during capture the flag on that hellhound didn't I?" It wasn't the answer she was looking for, but it was something. He recalled using his abilities during the last battle as well. Although not much. Trin wanted him to be a warrior... but he just wasn't.
"Since we’re here how about you teach me something. Anything," she said with a smile.
Wes sighed, running his fingers through his hair. Being put on the spot and told to teach someone something is like being asked to tell someone about yourself. Where the hell do you start? It usually just leaves the person blank with no idea what to say. And that's where he was. "Hell, I have no idea. I could teach you how to introduce yourself in French. But it's nothing spectacular or helpful."
"You could probably teach Sloane a thing or two. Liam reckons she needs confidence and I feel like you'd be good at drawing that out of her." Jesus she was determined that day. It wasn't a new conversation. Hell, Trin has been trying to convince Wes to use his powers for over a year now. He admired her determination, but he didn't like messing with people's free will. He wasn't gifted with the ability to manipulate water or fire... but people. And that didn't sit right with him.
"Liam doesn't know the first thing about reading people." Wes laughed weakly. "I don't think her confidence is the problem... She's scared. I can feel it when I'm around her." He shrugged his shoulders slightly.
For a long moment, Trinity's gaze shifted to the training. Wes on the other hand was trying not the pay attention to it, but as he heard the harsh words Liam said toward Sloane, he winced. There was nothing more frustrating then people trying to force you to fight back. He knew that struggle all to well. The blonde beside him often trying to insight that in him. But Liam was making it personal. He supposedly cared for this girl, from what Wes could tell, yet the way he spoke to her. The idiot might have gone three steps forward defending Sloane from her brother, but talking to a women you care about like that would send him four steps back. It wasn't a pretty sight.
Trinity took their joined hands and brought them into her lap. But it was when she cleared her throat that he looked over at her. "You know your other friend suggested I help her with her own emotions? Umm, Iliana. I think you should start offering your service as a counsellor or trainer so people know you're the productive one."
"I don't know if I'm the one people should look to for guidance when it comes to controlling their emotions. Sure, I can tell people how to talk to a girl... or not too, in Liam's case. But, I don't have control over my emotions. Maybe hide them better than some on occasion. But... I don't know if it's possible to control emotions. Powers aside. We feel what we feel. Good or bad."
But the topic didn't keep their attention for long. They were both looking back to the training in front of them. It was uncomfortable. "What do you think of this? Who are you taking if things go south?"
Wes sighed. "I think your brother doesn't have a clue how to talk to women." Wes laughed slightly, but it was a serious conversation. If this went south quickly, they'd both have to be ready to act. "Liam, probably. He's stronger than me, but if I could get a hand on him I could calm him down."
Sylas watched as Evelyn struggled between him and the counter. Not to break free, but it was like she was trying with everything in her power not to look at him. "I'm uninhibited around you. It's thrilling and I feel insatiable and vigorous." He liked the sound of that. It nearly made him smirk, before he caught himself. There was a 'but' coming. There always was. "You’re forbidden desires wrapped in one package. I should stay away....I should."
Her words said she should. Yet, her hand found its way to the back of his neck, playing with his hair. Evelyn shifted up to her tiptoes, bringing her closer while she pulled him down toward her slightly. But then she froze. "You should," he said quietly in agreement as his hands fell from her sides.
Evelyn's hands still rested on his chest, but not in an affectionate way, instead requiring space. Sylas didn't argue and took a step back. "Let me summarise this. You so charmingly implied you may want me to stay, but you admit you are dangerous, and I should do the exact opposite. You can see how that's rather cruel of you."
"Yes. It is," he agreed as he looked down at her. She was not wrong and in this brief moment of truth, he would not argue it.
"You are wickedly tempting. But you already know that don’t you?" And then she smirked, raising a brow.
Sylas couldn't help but chuckle softly. "I've heard rumor."
"Now, unless you plan on keeping us cooped up all day, I’m going to go fulfill other basic needs. And you should put on some clothes before there’s a chance of burning more daylight."
He would have been happy spending the entire day in bed, but he wouldn't argue. Sylas stepped aside and let her pass, although he smirked, just slightly, at her hand that lingered upon his stomach. He watched her head toward the door, but didn't follow.
Evelyn stopped just before she exited and looked back to him. "Thank you again for...everything."
Sylas nodded his head as he lightly crossed his arms over his chest. "Any time." And he meant it.
Once she opened the door, Evelyn said her fair wells and closed the door behind her, leaving Sylas standing half naked, staring at the exit. He waited there for a moment or two longer, in case she changed her mind and came back in. But when he realized she wasn't returning, he sighed and finally decided to move. He made his way back to his bedroom where he let his gaze linger on the disheveled bed for a moment, before he stripped out of his clothing and wondered into the shower.
Sloane stood there, like a spectacle, waiting as Liam slowly made his way over to her. She didn't like being the center of attention. And with him standing before her like an oppressive giant, she found herself feeling smaller than she has before. He didn't say anything. So, she neither did she.
Then it seemed like everything got quieter. Liam began to breathe heavily as the air around him grew heavy. It was like all the hairs on the back of her neck raised and a cold chill ran down her back. But Sloane's gaze couldn't leave Liam. She just stood there in silence and watched him change before her. He was panting, his chest raising and falling with labored breaths. The veins protruded from his arms and neck.
It was a strong wave that slammed into her like a tsunami. It made her want to retreat. And she thought about it until Liam spoke. "Don't run," he said almost robotically.
Sloane could feel his tendrils trying to worm their way into her mind. Maybe if her constitution was weaker. If she couldn't control emotions or manipulate others with her powers it might have effected her more. Perhaps even caused memories and visions of the past to flood into her mind. It was like something inside her was scratching at the walls, trying to get out. It was fighting to make her scared or angry, perhaps both. It was a strong sensation. Her breathing grew heavier as she tried to keep it at bay and remain calm.
"Look at yourself," he demanded of her. Liam's voice was cold and harsh. The words were sharp enough to make her double take and snap out of whatever magical hold he had on her. "Look at all the ways you've made yourself a victim. You. Not your brother, not me. You make yourself weak. No one else can do that for you. Who are you, Sloane? Is this the real you? Is this how you're going to live the rest of your life?"
It wasn't the air the spun around them that churned her stomach. It was his words. Sloane's nostrils flared as she clenched her jaw. Her gaze drifted over to a spot on the floor as she tried to remain calm. Why did it always seem that someone like Liam could do the right thing one moment, and negate it all with thoughtless words that flood out of his mouth like poison the next. It was like one moment, he wanted her there and to help. Then the next he saw her as a sheepish burden. Some damsel that needed saving and no idea what she had gotten herself into.
She had enough.
"You have no idea what you're talking about!" Her voice wasn't quiet and timid, but forceful and demanded to be heard. Sloane shoved her hands into Liam's chest, and while that normally wouldn't have made him budge, the powers in her demanded he stumble back when she pushed him. "I didn't make myself the victim. You did!" She shoved him again. Her abilities only getting more powerful, forcing him to stumble back again.
"I had everything under control before you came around and made it your problem!" She pushed him again. To those who watched it must have been strange seeing someone so small knock Liam back with every push. "I knew how he was! And rather than letting him take his sickness out on others, I let him take out his anger on me! Letting him hurt me, kept everyone else safe. But you didn't see that. You didn't ask about my side of the story."
Sloane took a step toward him and jabbed his chest with her index finger. "I wasn't scared until you came crashing into my life!" The poke wasn't intended to make him stumble back, but her powers were already coursing through her and it wasn't going to calm down anytime soon. "Because now, I don't have it under control. It isn't about me anymore. You brought yourself into this mess... Along with your sister, Wes, even Andy. Every single person you've opened your big mouth too is now in danger because you put your nose somewhere it didn't belong."
She looked like she was on the edge of tears. Not sadness, but angry tears. "I bore his anger so no one else would have to!" This time when she pushed him, all that pent up anger and the powers that tingled at her fingertips transferred over to Liam, telling him to stumble backwards until he falls upon the ground. Sloane moved to stand over him. "I am not a victim. And I'm am not weak."
After a second or two of looking down at him, Sloane stepped over Liam and walked for the edge of the woods. "Don't follow me," she said back toward him before she disappeared into the trees. She had no destination in sight, just the desire to get away. She felt like she was suffocating when she was around him, and with every step away she took it was like she could finally breathe.
This was one of those moments Sloane wished she had her own cabin. Not Sylas's and not Liam's. Somewhere she could go that was hers, where she could be alone. Instead, she continued to walk through the woods, going wherever her feet lead her. After a couple minutes of walking, the dirt beneath her shoes turned to sand and she stepped out onto the beach. When that ocean breeze hit her, she was overwhelmed with all the stirring emotions and just stumbled to her hands and knees.
She remained like that until she managed to catch her breath. Once she did, Sloane let herself shift back until she was kneeling, her weight resting back on her shins and feet. As she ran her hands back through her hair, she noticed far on the other end of the beach were two others. She was too far away to tell who they were and hopefully, that was far enough for them to leave her alone. Sloane slowly moved her feet out from under her and laid back in the warm sand.
"Sure." As Mason approached, Andy tried her best to move her hair out of the way. She stood as still as she could manage as he untied the strings of the gown. At one point his breath brushed her shoulder sending a chill down her spine. It made her nervous how close he stood. Not in a bad way, but it was different than all the other times they stood close before.
"Did...I...." Mason begin to say. She slowly looked back over her shoulder at him, being sure to hold the gown against her chest. Andy waited, patiently, to hear what he was going to ask. But he said nothing. She sighed softly as she turned back around, leaving her back to Mason. She set down the gown on an empty chair, then carefully slipped into a zip up hoodie. It was the easiest thing she could manage to put on.
"I've never seen you fight like that before," he said instead.
Andy sighed softly before she sat back down on the hospital bed, even managing to cross her legs under her Indian style. "She blames me for breaking her brother's heart. Like our relationship failed because of me, and Ajax had no part in it." She gave a small shrug. The best she could manage. "And I was tired of her blaming you... for everything, while no one ever holds her accountable for her actions." She slowly looked up to meet his gaze. "So... I did."
She rubbed her side and laughed weakly. "I'm not scared of Alex. I might not be able to control lightning, but I'm just as powerful as her, in ways that she couldn't imagine." Andy looked down at the blankets beneath her. Her fingers idly picking at the threads. "But I fight fair... And she doesn't. She shook her head with a defeated smile. "I should have broken her arm when I had the chance." Not that she would have. It might have felt good. But she was more proud of herself for being the bigger person and walking away. Even if it ended badly.
"We never really got to talk much after that whole bullsh-...the trial. After Alex's trial. What I said to you was crap. I'm sorry I said what I said and how I spoke to you. I meant the whole Jennova and looking into your memories thing but... With Hades gone, that leaves....a big role to fill. I'm not going now - especially not now but someday..."
Mason seemed to be at a loss for words, something Andy wasn't used to seeing. But she remained silent and waited for him to continue. "I know Hecate lives there too and she can manage things for a while but she doesn't deserve the duty to be thrown on her eternity. She didn't do anything wrong. I was thinking we could try make a device. Something that lets me travel freely between the Underworld and here because...I don't want to be there forever. Every second of every day and Gods are Gods. For all I know Zeus could seal me in there or Hades as some last trap sprung on me."
Her heart sank as he continued. She didn't like the thought of him leaving... again. Andy relied so heavily on Mason, probably too much. He was a rock in her life that she needed and the thought of him being out of reach saddened her. But she understood why he had to do it. Luckily, Hades wouldn't be there.
"Sorry. I know you have your own stuff to deal with. Just...wanted to come clean and wonder if that's something you'd be comfortable with doing when you've regained your strength."
"Don't apologize. I'm glad you told me. And you know I'd be happy to help you however I can." Andy's brows furrowed as she pondered the request. Instantly, a couple ideas came to mind. "We could always make some kind of beacon... A stationary object that you can travel to. Or, perhaps, items kind of like walkie talkies. They could allow travel between the two. So, the carriers could travel between the two with ease. Someone could travel to the Underworld to see you, or you could leave to go to them."
Andy didn't try to assume that Mason would want her to carry the other one. Perhaps he'd give it to Eve, or leave it somewhere hidden. But it was an option. And part of her liked the possibility of being able to travel to the Underworld to see him rather that waiting an indefinite amount of time for him to come see her.
"And for the record, I forgive you... for what you said before the trial. I..." Andy's voice trailed off as she tried to find the words. As she sat there her gaze fell to her hands. "I had no right to be jealous of Eve and lash out at you for it. It was selfish and rude."
She exhaled softly as she brushed loose hairs behind her ear. "I grew used to you being just mine. And... I don't like Eve, I don't. But, I had no right to get mad about it. Especially when you've watched me with Ajax for so long. I think... I think it made me realize how unhappy I was and I took it out on you when it isn't your fault. I haven't been fair to you." Andy inhaled sharply but couldn't look up. "If she makes you happy, then I won't make you choose between her and me."
It wasn't easy for her to say. Even as the word's left her lips, Andy's stomach churned at the thought. But she didn't have any right to be jealous over whomever Mason wanted. He wasn't hers. While the thought of it sat uneasily, in the end, she just wanted to see him happy. She couldn't recall the last time he seemed genuinely content. "I just want you to find happiness."
ImageShe knew that Wes didn't like the idea of his friend leaving, but at least he understood that it could be for the best. There was no going back now, and at least there was more pros than cons to leaving. She'd get to spend time with her dad, and hopefully, do some deep soul searching.
After Wes had said what he needed to, he left to leave her with Iliana. The young girl was sweet enough to try and reach out to Alex, to show her sympathy for the troubles the daughter of Zeus was going through... but in honesty, Alex didn't really care at this point. Her mind was full of a war that she had slowly been losing since day one, but at least she wasn't alone. Others had their own problems, dealing with them how they deal with them. Alex couldn't. She had been strong for so long that it just caused her to break like a dam filled with water pressing against the fragile structure with all its might.
Beautiful, but destructive... those were the words anyone would describe her at this point.
"I don't remember" She told the girl. Alex wasn't herself that night. That, she knew for certain. "I just remember the people who were there at the party. Everyone was enjoying themselves the best they knew how, and that creepy guy...Sylas...he passed me at one point and then I just... got angry after seeing Mason enter the closet with Andy. That's all I know." Nothing really seemed odd, but it caused her to frown a little. "Lets just fact it... It was my fault. All of it is." She let out a sigh. "I hope you find peace with yourself soon..." Alex began to walk away, then stopped. She turned to Iliana, looking a little hesitant. "Thank you.... for, you know... trying to help." Alex then nodded with a slight smile before she began to walk away again, heading in the direction of her cabin.
Closing that door behind her, shutting out the entire world was a relief. Everything remained tranquil.
She took off her shoes and lay herself down onto her bed allowing her thoughts to pass through for seconds at a time.
She eventually opened her eyes, finding herself not in the cabin anymore, but in a dense forest.
She hadn't a clue why she was ever then, but when she was younger, there was a forest just like the one she was in now that had been close to their home in Nova Scotia; Canada. There, she'd pick flowers to take back home to her mother.
Alex remembered the place being calm. Spending time with Nature was like being cleansed with holy water. But that thought of peace soon became just a memory again as the forest began to feel... threatening and uneasy.
Image Alex didn't recognise them at first. They were carrying a gun as they made their way towards her. Everything in her told her to run, but she couldn't. She was rooted to the ground.
Vines wrapped around her legs which pulled her down to her knees. She looked up and found the guns barrel pointed at her head.
"Do it... I'm not afraid to die." The corners of her lips pulled up into slight smile as she waited. She blinked a couple of times as the clicking sound of the hammer was pulled back on the gun. This was it, this was relief she had been waiting for. She had accepted all the wrongs she had caused, and could now finally be free.
"You've always be afraid."
"Not anymore."
Image With the gun still pointed at Alex, the other her looked towards the treeline.
"NO... Please, don't!" Alex begged "Kill me! kill me and be done with it. Just don't hurt anyone else." but it was no use, they just kept heading towards the camp until they disappeared down the hill. Nothing could be heard for a while, and Alex couldn't see anything either.
She tried to reach for the knife in her boot, but every time she moved, the vines wrapped even tigter. She could barely breath, but she managed to let out a bloodcurdling scream when she heard the gun shots.
She was still screaming when she shot up in bed.
Finally back in the real world which was still no better.
Everything was set. All the luggage was packed, or at least, all they needed was. He looked over the bags that lay on his bed to make sure he did indeed have everything. He jumped before quickly turning his attention to the door, and then began to run towards Alex's room.
She was fighting with her bedsheets as they tangled themselves around her legs. "hey, it's okay.. You were just dreaming. It's a dream. You want to talk about it?"
Image "no, it's fine... It was just a stupid nightmare. I'll be fine." she fixed herself and her hair before climbing off her bed, throwing the tangled sheets out of the way. "Is it time to go? How we even getting there? we can't exactly carry him. He's grown more muscle since I last saw him."
"Ares is coming apparently. I got an email from hermes." he explained, seeing the confused face she had since no god had stepped foot in camp since the trials.
"Email? I thought dad was against modern technology?"
"Doesn't mean they all are."
"Did you get to talk to Andy?" Alex asked him as she headed off into the kitchen to fix herself a bowl of cereal.
"No.... She doesn't need me anyway. She has him." the same thought of Mason being close to her made his blood boil, and it wasn't like he could walk up to him now and attack him. The entire camp would start thinking the valises were just mentally unstable.
Just as Ajax had managed to brew himself a coffee, the skies opened up, causing a loud crackle and rumble as a flash of light came rushing down towards the camp like a shooting star, its tail end like white fire.
"they always like to make a grand entrance don't they?" Alex comments as she peers out of the kitchen window. Ares chariot had landed directly in their backyard perfectly.
"Can't exspect anything less from them." he shrugged.
He wandered away from the window, finished off his coffee before placing it into the sink, and then headed outside to meet Areas who was taking off the spartan looking helmet of his.
"you ready to go?" Areas asked, his right hand stroking down the neck of one of the two horses pulling the chariot.
"Almost. Alex and I just gotta grab our things" he said, motioning his thumb back over his shoulder to the cabin behind him. "and we are just waiting for Duke. He shouldn't be too long. No doubt he saw you coming."
Image Ares smiled before he patted the horses neck. "Let me help you get your things onto the chariot then."
Ajax nodded. "I'll toss them down to you through the window."
Ares caught them with little to no effort before throwing them into the back of the chariot, placing them so there was enough room for his three companions.
Liam could tell quite quickly that his power was not behaving in that it should. Of course, he did not have a deep understanding of Sloane's abilities and how they might affect his own. Naturally. It was really his hapless luck, and he was going to be very sorry for it later. There was nothing he could do about it now, though. The words had already viciously departed, and they had been cruelly indiscriminate in choosing Sloane as their target. The deafening silence was thicker in the air than that of his power.
Until that once soft timbre of a voice had commanded his attentiveness, "You have no idea what you're talking about!" She'd be right. Now, he didn't know what he was talking about. Probably. He truly thought he had, but Liam's mind has always been a one-way track regarding this or that. Before a reply could leave his lips, petite palms pressed against the thick sinew of his chest and slender fingers emit a power that weaves powerfully into his mind. It was like a whisper, maybe. He could never be too sure, only that he could hear it in some odd way.
He stumbled back, and his expression bore a great amount of confusion. He felt no pain, no physical strength coming from the woman, but he still stumbled. "I didn't make myself the victim. You did!" He looked down at her and blinked, only to be shoved again.
And then again. And again. Her words reached his ears and he listened. Liam listened to the blame that she cast upon him for interfering - for doing what had only made sense to him. Nothing that she spoke made any sense to him because it was not the way he lived his life. Sloane was different, obviously, but she was... pathetic sounding. One might think that he should get pissed off or embarrassed that this small woman is pushing this bigger man around, but he wasn't upset about that. He's pissed off that the one good thing he's really done for someone is blowing up in his face.
Not this, of course - the Sylas incident. This was a bad idea. A really, really bad one because now they were just being cruel to each other. His words might have been like poison to her, but her own words became a hot conflagration that actually burned at him in ways that words typically wouldn't. It wasn't anger or resentment, rather he felt sorry for her. Sorry that she's been abused and suffering alone for gods know how long.
He let her speak as much as she needed to. If she wanted to continue to lash out on him, then that's what he'd allow. He had to because to strike back at her meant that he might go too far. Sloane's power pierced his mind and rippled through his body, and he ended up stumbling and tripping up until he had finally fallen onto his back.
"I am not a victim. And I'm am not weak," she looked down at him after she said that, and her usual soft-brown gaze was laced with bitterness and a threatening swell of tears behind it.
He sighed, his chest rising and falling heavily. "I would do it again, Sloane," Liam stated as a matter-of-fact, holding onto her gaze with his own. "I'll take the blame for your victimhood, too. If that makes you feel better."
After Sloane stepped over him and made sure to let him know not to follow, he rolled onto his stomach and then pushed himself up off of the ground. Large hands clapped over his attire, dusting off the debris on his pants. He didn't feel much like holding a conversation with anyone, and he certainly was going to give Sloane the space she required. He just... calmly slipped away from the area and left Wes and Trinity to do their talking thing. Whatever they did, he doesn't know. All he knew was that the training was over, but it wasn't entirely a bust.
* * *
Whether it was some strange fate or by chance, Liam had ended up peering through that window and watching that toxic sibling interaction play before his eyes. The beast in him that hungered for a chance to strike couldn't shrink away from the opportunity, and the man in him couldn't just walk away and pretend that nothing happened. There had been no other logical choice in his mind, and anyone would agree with him.
Maybe he was wrong.
Liam eventually found himself sitting against a thick tree trunk quietly ruminating over his choices since he's been here. For the life of him, he can't understand how she could be so upset at him for doing something so basic. Sure, he was rather demanding that she come to his place that night, but it was for her own good. Right? Was he the selfish one? There were just... too many questions, and those questions delved into a deeper rabbit hole that he wasn't going to fit in anyway so he might as well as stop thinking.
He ran a hand down his face in a flustered motion then pinned the back of his head against the tree. He wasn't tired in the least bit, but he still felt a lot like closing his eyes. He drew his knees up a bit, placed his arms over them, and shut the world out so that he could take a nap, of sorts.
It's only been two days, but it really has felt like it's been so much longer than that. He knew that this stupid place wouldn't be a good fit for him. He's pretty sure that he is already regretting ninety percent of the choices he has made here, and for the length of time that he has been around - that was not a huge list.
The first to speak was Cherise's friend, whom both boys had a hard time remember her name. Did she even introduce herself to them? Before either could ask though, the demigoddess left, leaving them with Cherise.
"I got my job in a while ago, thank the gods. It's starting to get a little warm."
The two nodded as she started cleaning the area up and mentioned breakfast before stating she hoped for a quiet breakfast. Heath nodded. He did catch the lie, but decided to not address it since Cherise must have her reasons. He would keep an eye on her though and if she lied again, he would bring it up.
"I come from a big family and I am lucky if I have a private breakfast. Then again since moving out on my own, most of my breakfasts have been quiet. But then Ethan here likes talk and fill in the silence."
Heath chuckled when he said that last line.
Ethan rolled his eyes and replied, "Are you saying I talk too much?"
"You are pretty loquacious my friend," Heath laughed.
"See what I have to put up with Cherise? He takes after his mother too much, he's too honest for his own good."
"Thank you, I am glad I am like my mother. Since I know when someone lies to me, it be hypocritical to lie myself," Heath replied, looking directly at Cherise when he said that.
While he wouldn't bring up her lie, he did want to remind her not to lie around him. When Cherise finished up, she debated on whether she should take a shower or not. She eventually decided she would go now and asked if they were coming. Both guys smelled themselves too.
"Unfortunately I do need a shower Cherise."
"Same here, but we'll meet up with you there in no time. Our cabin isn't too far from here."
With that the 2 left and soon arrived at their cabin before getting taking showers and getting changed. Leaving the cabin again, they head for where the food was and arrive to indeed see others there. Seeing that Iliana wasn't there, both wondered if she had already ate and just left. They get their own meals and sit down to eat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Even though Iliana was aware of when the others were doing, she kept her whole attention on Alex.

"I don't remember. I just remember the people who were there at the party. Everyone was enjoying themselves the best they knew how, and that creepy guy...Sylas...he passed me at one point and then I just... got angry after seeing Mason enter the closet with Andy. That's all I know."

Sylas's name caught Iliana's attention. Before she could think about it, Alex continued.

"Lets just face it... It was my fault. All of it is. I hope you find peace with yourself soon..."

Alex began to walk away, then stopped. She turned to Iliana, looking a little hesitant.

"Thank you.... for, you know... trying to help."

Iliana felt her defeated nature, a feeling she knew all too well. At least Alex hadn't been tortured like her, but any more drama and she might lose herself completely. The girl needed a break, that was for sure. As much as Iliana wanted to follow her, she knew when someone needed to be alone and the 2 were still strangers. Plus her attention was quickly diverted to Sloane's outburst. Spinning around, Iliana watch her shout at the big muscle guy.

"I didn't make myself the victim. You did!"

Puzzled, Iliana started listening in earnest.

"I wasn't scared until you came crashing into my life! Because now, I don't have it under control. It isn't about me anymore. You brought yourself into this mess... Along with your sister, Wes, even Andy. Every single person you've opened your big mouth too is now in danger because you put your nose somewhere it didn't belong."

Her words and anger penetrated Iliana's heart like spear, she felt the underlying fear too. Was she . . . talking about Sylas? Iliana tried to focus on just the words, while battling her own emotions, which were starting to rise again.

"I bore his anger so no one else would have to!"

With those words she caused the guy to tumble over before saying she wasn't a victim or weak. The angry woman walked away then, saying not to follow her. Iliana gasped and shuddered as she dropped to her knees, clasping her notebook to her chest. She was shaking and taking deep breaths as the wind picked up a bit. It took her several minutes, but the breathing helped her calm down, but now she was exhausted. She didn't even realize the big guy had left for when she looks up she only saw Wes and Trinity. The wind was still blowing, but it had calmed down slightly. Iliana got up and walked towards Trinity. Writing something down, she showed it to Trinity.

~Was she talking about Sylas? Has he hurt her? I did see that Sylas was hurt the other day. Did that big guy who was here do that to him, because Sylas hurt his sister? That big guy is your brother right? Sorry, what's his name?~

She didn't mean to ask so many questions, but she had so many of them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Koa was right behind Nelly as she greeted Daniel. He asked her new companion about her name. It definitely sounded like an islander name. Soon Daniel introduced himself as one of Hecate's kids. That had to have some perks. Suddenly Daniel asked if she and Koa were twins. Nelly burst out in laughter.
"What gave you that idea?! We look nothing alike! It would be cool if we were related though. I know my father isn't the 'steady' types when it comes to relationships, but neither is my mom. My mom loves her independence too much. My parents are on good terms though, so that's good. I actually never met my father or knew of my divine half until I was 10 right after I discovered I had a nut allergy. I have to tell you it was a relief to know why I was so fast or have a perfect visual memory."
Daniel then asked her about last night.
"I had a great time, despite how it ended. I don't think I did so well with that game though. I never played it before. It got pretty awkward between Sylas and I hehe. What was the purpose of it? I know you and Cherise were in there and ya'll looked pretty happy exiting. Maybe you can explain to me what was suppose to happen?"
Nelly laughed again when he asked if she had been to prison. She knew her father was called the God of Thieves from the time he 'borrowed' Apollo's herd.
"Not quite, but I have gotten speeding tickets hehe. I have a way of getting into trouble though. My mom says my middle name should have been Trouble hehe."
She was really enjoying Daniel's company, so much so she didn't pay attention to when others came into the hall. So when Daniel asked if they like to be training buddies, Nelly leaped at it.
"I don't know if I have friends yet since I just got here, but yeah I'd love to train with you. How often do they train us here?"
There it was, a lesson without trying. Just his logic, his whole perceptiveness and mind was ten times better than the short-sighted Ares fools Liam and Trinity were. Although she might argue a bit about controlling emotions because there had to be some trick not to lash out at people because they irked you. Like Liv....she probably should have processed the words before seeing them as a threat. And like Alex and Ajax, actually, fuck them they deserved it. Alex for hurting her friend. Ajax for letting her walk on water.
But Wes had a different effect on her entirely. “You drive me crazy,” Trinity said. He was so stubborn and Mr. Right. Their peers and her didn't deserve his code of conduct.
"I think your brother doesn't have a clue how to talk to women." Wes laughed slightly and Trinity grunted in agreement. They were not a breed gifted with charm and thoughtfulness. "Liam, probably. He's stronger than me, but if I could get a hand on him I could calm him down."
Almost countering his point, Sloane hammered into Liam, but it wasn't the victim anger coming out it was another. One more directed right at Liam. Scratch the comical thought, there was nothing good about watching Liam get pushed repetitively. Trinity may have been concerned and got involved if he hadn't called it upon himself. When the tower was knocked over, she averted her eyes in a way to avoid bearing witness to it. More like playing ignorant and for her own sake and maybe Liam's.
Trinity busied herself fiddling with Wes's fingers until Sloane headed one way, and Liam another. Trinity rubbed her forehead.
On top of that, the wind started to pick up and a crackle and light shot down from the sky, pulling her out of her spell awfully quick. Her eyes fell on Wes questioningly as if he’d know what it was all about, but if it concerned her or was a message for everyone, she’d know. Some announcement would probably come their way.
“So do we….?” Trinity pointed in both directions where Sloane and Liam trailed off to. Whatever tension was there didn’t seem to end on a good note and she thought maybe one or both of them could use company even if they didn’t particularly want it. Honestly she wouldn’t know how to talk to either of them though. “Or do we - ”
Then she stopped thinking about them. Bugger them, and pestering Wes with insisting to train could wait, what about Andy! She leapt up from the log only to be stopped in her tracks by Iliana. Trinity pulled herself short of colliding with the girl as she scribbled something on her notebook. Trinity shifted foot to foot. Gods, she was a shit friend.
Was she talking about Sylas? Has he hurt her? I did see that Sylas was hurt the other day. Did that big guy who was here do that to him, because Sylas hurt his sister? That big guy is your brother right? Sorry, what's his name?~
Trinity's gaze shifted up to Iliana's face. It wasn't her information to reveal unfortunately, especially after Sloane's outburst. “His name's Liam and he is...capable of inflicting Sylas's injuries and worse.” Unlike fellow demigods Trinity wasn't gifted in speech and diversion, making her words come out with evident thought. But that didn't matter because Trinity wouldn't squeal, even on a ratbag like Sylas who deserved half the camp at his throat.
She sighed out placing her hands on Iliana's upper arms. “Look, the overall summary is Sylas is somebody you shouldn't be near if you can help it.” That’s the wisdom Liam departed on her anyway, not to let him get close and touch you.
“You told me at the fire, he scares you. So follow your instincts on that. Try tune into what people feel and pick friend or foe for yourself.” If Iliana truly wanted to know their deal, why not embrace her abilities, for better and worse. She would suggest asking Sloane herself but even Trinity bypassed that and she thought Sloane could use a breather.
“Don't do anything rash okay?” If Trinity got a majorly unhelpful answer like she just gave Iliana, she knew she'd confront a source. Well at least she hoped Iliana didn't do it alone if she was compelled to.
She spun on her heel and popped a quick and firm peck on Wes's lips. “I'm gonna hunt down Andy. I'll give you your clothes back later.” She put a hand on his arm. “And one day, I'll learn to be gentle.” She laughed to herself. Always, always rushing her kisses. And he was the damn son of Aphrodite so she really should work on it, less she suffer more comparison.
