h a i r x // xIt is long and wavy; about down to her mid-back. On the bleakest days those soft waves are dark and lackluster, but when the sun embraces her, a vibrant copper hue shines through every gentle strand.

e y e s x // xThe hue of her eyes, much akin to her hair, shifts from a forest green with flicks of chestnut, to the darkest of browns. She doesn't know if it depends on what she is wearing or her mood.

o d d i t i e s x // xNone as of now.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xWhen one thinks of Poseidon, perhaps they dream of beautiful flowing hair and voluptuous tanned beauty. However, this southern belle is a lithe and soft. From sole to crown she is riddled with freckles, and her skin is not as favored by the sun despite all of her best efforts to tan. In her family she is considered short. To everyone else, she is perfectly average in every way. One glance her way normally appeases the curiosity, as she is easily forgettable. Of course, without the ability to regulate her emotions, even if she was beautiful to someone, her moodiness made her quite unappealing and ugly. Regardless, she dresses casually and is nicely groomedt. Her make-up is typically can venture from natural to attention seeking - but it all depends on how she feels that day. Everything about her rests upon her emotions, even her appearance.

a b i l i t y x // x Water Breathing is self-explanatory. The limits of this are yet untested, but she can at least hold herself under the water for an hour thus far. That is as far as her exploration has gone.

a b i l i t y x // x Water Manipulation Liv can manipulate water!.

a b i l i t y x // x Equine and Aquatic Communication She has a kinship with this creatures, and she always has since she was a child. At first, she believed herself to be crazy imaginative, but eventually she learned that she could communicate with them. They are probably her only chance at a social life because animals are not as judgemental and humans.

a b i l i t y x // x Underwater Healing
is also self-explanatory, but it is really tiring.

While she might be unstable, she is determined to do her best and be her best no matter what.

She has a serious case of the noodle arms, and is unlikely to beat anyone up at this time.

P E R S O N A L I T A T E
xxxxxxxxxx bi-polar xx secretive xx untrustworthy xx reclusive x

There is something to be said about one as emotionally disordered as she. The woman can be perfectly lovable one day, and then screaming and crying the next. There are times when she smiles brightly and wishes and hopes for the best in people. In those moments, or on those days, she is fun to be around and a joy. When she is high on life, she is really high. However, when she crashes she truly collides with a velocity that can shatter hard stone on a blade of grass. It can happen in a matter of seconds - a misunderstanding or an unkind word. When she is angry, she throws these massive temper tantrums that look laughable for someone her size, and that can make it worse - that she is so physically not intimidating that she knows how ridiculous she looks.

When it is all said and done, she’s hard to trust. The woman is so closed off about herself and her past because she believes that she is the common denominator in all her troubles - the reason, the problem. At the same time, when she does find that one person to open up to, she genuinely opens. It is hard to believe that she could be so easily manipulated, but when someone needs constant validation and emotional support, it isn’t hard to notice that there’s a perfect opening for something dark to slither into and control. If she could blame others instead of herself all the time, maybe she could shift her misfortunes.

Since loneliness is her eternal curse, she doesn't care if she hurts someone's feelings. She's very intelligent and knows how to use her words, even if there is no real tact. If she's feeling insecure or as though she is delving into something uncertain, her best defense is the verbal kind. Liv will attempt to stir people away from her with harsh verbiage when discomfort settles in. She also doesn't always know how to say the right thing the right way - most of the time having decent intentions but laughable execution.

She can be kind, warm, angry, sad - whatever she feels at the moment, she just is.

God of the Skies & Justice / King of the gods || Hex: #00457a

Image With the trial now dealt with, and with Hades completely out of his sight, Zeus could finally grab a moment with his children before they'd have to leave him again for Camp. "I would like a word with both of my children."
Zeus said, causing the other Gods to leave the room and the arena. "My children... I have never doubted either of you of being good people, and once Camp Athens is over for the both of you, I want you to decide on something."

he held his hands together in front of him as he stood there before them, looking between them with a gentle smile. "It is your choice alone, so whatever you decide, I will be happy. You can either come and live here with me, or you can remain on Earth with your step-father." he knew it could be a possible hard choice for them, but he hadn't done it on purpose to get them away from their step-father. Zeus knew as plain as day, what that mortal man had done for both Alex and Ajax. Raised them as his own, loved Susanna when Zeus could not. He honored the man, but he wanted to remain close to his children, to get to know them better than he thought. "You do not have to decide right away." he assured them. "There is plenty of time." he promised.

Just after hugging both of his children, and before he was about to head out, someone else had joined them. First, it was Iliana. The adorable young lady from earlier. It was nice of her to apologize to his son, though Zeus did know or understand what she was being sorry for. Next, was Heath. Still polite as ever.

"Pardon me Lord Zeus, but my mother and I have a private manner we wish to discuss with you?"

"Of course. Follow me." He leads them both to a separate room. "We will not be disturbed here. How can I help?"

Son of Zeus || Hex: Green Outfit: XXX

ImageHe couldn't contain himself. The second Alex was proven innocent, he vaulted over the wall and landed in the arena before he rushed over to her. He pulled her into his chest with his arms wrapped around her, and almost squeezed the air out of her. He chuckled as she wheezed for air. He let her go.

"You scared me."

"I know. I'm sorry. she said, her brows furrowed.

"Don't be. I'm just glad you're still with us." Mason wouldn't have agreed of course, neither would his own girlfriend, or anyone else behind them... but it didn't matter. None of it mattered anymore. Of course, Jennova was still robbed of life, but no-one could blame Alex for wanting to avenge her mother. So many would have wanted to do the same. Just as Ajax gave his little sister one more hug, their father had joined them.

Ajax stood there staring at him as Zeus announced his proposal to make a choice on where they'd both want to be, and honestly... Ajax was torn. He was already on the path towards Mount Olympus as future king, and Earth would be that home he'd miss once it was gone. Unable to step foot there, again. Unable to see the faces he cared and loved, again.

He knew his father was telling the truth. He had no reason to play manipulation with his children.

Ajax turned his head to look at Iliana with her mother. She was writing on that notepad of hers again. As soon as she was done, she turned it around for him to read it: ~I am sorry about my behavior before the trial when I gave you those flowers. I just felt your anger and it scared me. I am . . . able to feel the emotions of others and it directly affects me to the point where I can't control my actions or powers. So I left before I could hurt you and Ethan.~

He nodded. "Um.. okay..." He was confused as to why she needed to explain herself, but it was clear that she was more sensitive than the other girls, which was fine. Everyone is different after all."I honestly do appreciate it, but you, or your... brothers?" he couldn't remember if they were related or not. "Don't need to keep apologizing for what you believe to be wrong. What I'm trying to say is... it's fine. Just be yourself." He shrugged. "I should be sorry. I didn't mean to scare you, so... as an apology, how about I ride with you back to camp, huh? you can tell me a little more about yourself."

Daughter of Zeus || Hex: #d63b71

Image It felt good to finally be free, and she couldn't wait to get back to camp to be with her friends, her brother, and Duke. It felt good to have that monster inside of her head finally die, knowing that what she did, was not by her own impulse, but a cursed and manipulated one.

She looked up into the crowd, and even though some had left, and some that showed no sign of relief for her innocence... Alex smiled. Wes, Duke, and Ajax were still there, at least. For a little while. Her smile faded.

"Are you ready to head out or what?" She caught Duke say, his arm waiting for someone to hook their arm around it. It was the girl who had made such a long speech earlier. Clearly, she had impressed him for him to give her the time of day, and no doubt a ride back to camp. Alex watched, and expected even Wes to come to her... but neither of them did. Just her brother.

He ran to her and hugged her half to death, right before their father asked them to decide on something that Alex was more than happy to hear come from him. For years, she had wanted to meet him, and dreamt so many times of life beside him where she would get to see him every single day. But now that it was offered to her... she didn't know what to say. She had so much to leave behind.

She hugged her father. "We'll think about it." she answered for herself and Ajax before her father left to speak with Heath and Athena. It sounded important, but Alex wasn't about to eavesdrop. She wanted to be back at camp, so she headed out and made her way to the winged horses where Daniel stood alone.

It seemed he was waiting for someone, but the second some brunette girl arrived, Alex smiled. It was nice to see him moving on. She didn't know the girl, but Alex felt as though she was maybe what he needed to distract him. He had been through so much.

With everyone else partnering up, Alex climbed up onto the free horse, adjusting herself on its back. Maybe riding alone was a good idea. A chance to be by herself with her thoughts.

With the trial concluded, the daughter of Poseidon felt, well, probably as her father did - in between two really pathetic gods still fighting for this or that. She wrinkled her nose, her darkened eyes veered down toward Alex and then shifted to Hades as he was being banished. Or whatever it is that the gods do, Liv didn't really know. She crossed her arms over her chest; the earbuds in her ears hardly vanquished the conundrum of the trial's aftermath. Soon enough, everyone was departing.

Liv sat there for a little longer. Maybe she was hoping for a showing from her father, much like everyone else's godly parents. Yet, he does not come. Her lips did that thing where they kind of pouted, and then they thinned out with disappointment. Maybe he was also tired of being caught between the plague that is the eternal battle of Zeus and Hades.

For a quiet moment with some somber tune with the timbre of a grown-up celebrity that caters to every teenager's angsty side, she watched as demigods paired up. She couldn't shake this feeling that nothing good will come of this, even with the verdict. How could anyone know what is real? Liv wasn't so sure about everyone else, but the more she thought about it -- her gaze traveling from one god to another, flitting to the demigods one by one. It was a calculatory gaze, similar to that of Liam's, but without the combat expertise.

She looked at the more passive voices; the children of the more peaceful and friendly gods: Cherise, Ethan, Iliana, Heath - and wondered where they might stand.

"You raised some good points in the trial. You should probably just work on execution, might get more respect that way. Are you ready to head out or what?" A much closer voice crawled through her earbuds as the song died down, just during that pause before the next one might chime in. She pulled the both of them out and looked at him pointedly, standing quietly. For the moment she hooked her arm into his but was otherwise very quiet.

They make way to the beastly, white-winged creatures and her arm untangled from Duke's own. She walked to the front, whispering something under her breath. It was enough for the horse's neck to lower so that she could give it a quick pat and some simple instructions. "I need to visit daddy dearest, so I am going to need you to get as close to the ocean as possible. Be careful with the other rider and make sure he doesn't fall off. Hmm?" Of course, speaking to equine creatures is on her list of capabilities, especially since Poseidon practically invented them. She smiles at it, and there was seemingly some acknowledgment of instruction there.

Without further adieu, she hopped on - likely with his assistance and behind him. Only then would she address his earlier comments, leaning in toward him and setting her chin on his shoulder so that her mouth might reach his ear. It wasn't anything other than the Pegasus was so fast, and the wind was incredibly loud - it was otherwise impossible to get a word in without screaming at him. ”It’s not about respect. It's about… being caught up in this millennia-old game that our parents have been playing with each other. It's about not being used. Maybe even about not falling into the same traps. If I were down there, I wouldn't want to be judged because of my godly parent." She pulled away and then gave him a tap on the side, "Hold on tight."

That said, she swung an awkward leg over and edged close to falling off of the horse. She took in a deep breath, and then - just as its hooves skim the ocean’s surface, she dove right in. The execution was flawless, and she hardly made a splash as she cut through the water.

Time to find her father and maybe figure out how to deal with all of this.

"I’d call you repulsive, but I wouldn’t want to turn you on." Oh, but Liam was smart. He is just ill-mannered - thought he could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. There were no boundaries with him. He was like an Aphrodite child on steroids and with a dash of violence. For a mama's boy, he sure was pretty vile to the fairer sex. So, when she called him “repulsive” in that sly ‘she didn’t really want to but was thinking it’ manner, he didn’t hold it against her. In fact, he just grinned wide and cocked his head from side to side, as if thinking about that comment jokingly in the recesses of his own distorted cranium.

He leaned in close, likely as soon as she did herself, and let his eyes travel to her own, "I know I am repulsive. It doesn't turn me on, but I'm thinking that you're enjoying the attention. It's okay, though, you can pretend that you're not."

"I'm Eve. Sister of no one important," she informs him while squeezing his thigh like the conniving vixen she probably is. Not that he minded, naturally. She's a woman. He's a man. There wasn't going to be much that she could do to him otherwise. It's a sexist thought, but he wasn't exactly an upstanding gentleman rooting for the efforts of women to shed their physically inferior stereotypes. He wasn't as acutely aware that there are other ways to cause a lot of harm to someone.

Then she stood, and he just sat there. Right as he practically broke his neck from unnatural extension when he observes her rear end, she caught him. "If you want to rub against me on one of those beasts, you better help me up first." With that invitation, he all but jumps out of his seat and is well on his way toward her in a light jog, slowing as he caught him.

Not the invitation to rub on her. That was borderline sexual assault, and he knew better, but the one in which they would actually ride those Pegasus'. Now, those were some scary-ass beasts - diving and swooping in that kind of way that has even a hardass like Liam clenching his buttcheeks. Which they do notice, by the way - the horses. They know when the cheeks clench, and they seem to have taken it as a personal invitation to make the flight even more terrifying on his way to Olympus.

After all, now he has a lady that will ride with him, and he can't be seen clenching his buttcheeks.

After she approached one of the horses, his large hands grab her on either side of the waist and plop her right onto it. As for himself, he just clamors on like a hot mess. The Pegasus dreaded the weight of a man over two-hundred bounds, and with Eve joining him, this horse was going to need a godly chiropractor. He placed himself behind her so that she could be secure - a small glimmer of protective instinct flickering in an otherwise abrasive and surly guy. One of his hands grasp its white mane, the other arm snaking around her waist and ensuring that Eve was properly pressed up against him. Once he felt that all were secure, and his buttcheeks were relaxed, the beast took off.

Within moments they were on the beach, and as he had helped her up, he reaches up to assist her in dismount. Once she is settled onto the ground, he releases and then starts to walk. "What the fuck to demigods do here anyway? I mean, is it all underworld versus Olympus versus ocean, or is there some purpose?" Now that there was a conversation at hand that was not about Eve's body, he maybe looks a little less repugnant. At the same time, he's genuinely curious about the grand purpose of this place. He didn't want to be part of his father's home or his world, and he certainly did not enjoy the thought of being around a bunch of high school drama kids.

Not that he was any better. Truly.

Image As he escourted Liv to a pegasus in silence, she broke off and seemed to be whispering something to the horse. Strange behaviour had to be somewhat expected in a camp full of demigods so he waited back as if it were a privvy conversation. Once it concluded with Liv and the horse straightening, Duke lifted Liv on the back and climbed on, shuffling forward to assure plenty of room for the daughter of Poseidon.

She placed her chin on his shoulder and spoke to him during flight. ”It’s not about respect. It's about… being caught up in this millennia-old game that our parents have been playing with each other. It's about not being used. Maybe even about not falling into the same traps. If I were down there, I wouldn't want to be judged because of my godly parent."

Duke turned to face her as she pulled away. "I don't think they see it like that."

He didn't get the chance to explain further as she said to hold on tight and the horse lowered down by the ocean. Shit. Automatically Duke's grip tightened on the mane, ready to redirect the horse. Liv was moving around behind him and he paid a confused glance or two over his shoulder before she dove in. For a moment he looked at her diving space expecting her to surface and flag him down but he reminded himself she was a daughter of the sea and willingly dived.

He landed without a passenger which probably wasn't a good look to anyone that saw him pair with Liv. He climbed off with a huff patting the creature once, grateful that it hadn't thrown him overboard or diverted course. He walked to his cabin briskly. Duke had earned some rest and sleep.

Hades | HEX: #05105E | Outfit

Image Apparently the girl wasn't used to being a first to anyone and if he cared a little more, he would have assured her she had her perks.

"You say that as if your presence is usually intolerable."

Mason smiled a little. "I'm top three of most intolerable in camp." Because even when he was approached by the odd camper or two, he had an attitude that chased them away. It's just the way he was. He couldn't help but let the coldness in his heart show.

"You don't have to be so polite," she said. She stood like a statue for some time and Mason thought her preference clear. "I just wish to avoid Sylas for as long as possible. And if you want to be alone, I understand," she answered finally.

In honesty it probably was for the best that he headed his way and she heads her own. "If you say so," he shrugged and nodded. Just as he got a step or two away, she spoke again.

"Aren't the two of you... a thing?" Mason frowned, prepared to ask for context but when he saw the big guy and Eve, he drew the lines.

Mason narrowed his eyes on small brunette. Eve and he didn't play discreet but he didn't think they particularly drew attention to themselves either. He glanced between the pair on the horse and her, tongue pressed to his cheek. "Sloane, right?" He wanted to be sure that was her name since they'd never officially met and gone through all those formalities. "How long have you been playing fly on the wall?" Mason didn't really care for her answer or retaliation so he waved it off. "Let's say it's complicated."

"I can go take Liam off her hands, if you wish to talk with her. I doubt my presence with you would make her jealous. I'm not the type of person that other women are jealous of," she said.

Mason rose a brow and looked her over. Sure her dress looked like it belonged on a fashionable older woman but Sloane wasn't ugly. Actually she could have snuck in as one of his top 4. He appreciated the offer too, more so if he actually cared about Eve. "Don't undersell yourself. But if you want to take Liam off her hands for the sake of it," Mason nodded in their direction. "I'm not really the jealous type when it comes to our relationship." And the lack of jealousy was exclusive to their relationship.

"Goodnight, Sloane." He headed off. He was in two minds, one to see Andy and another to go direct to his cabin. The latter won. Andy needed some time to cool down and so did he.

Mason pulled his tie off glad to get rid of the foresaken thing. He should have checked the underworld but he didn't want to deal with another problem for the day. Jacket and shirt came off, then he kicked his shoes off.

Image He had a ready smile for Cherise, but it dropped when he saw the weapon she was now equipped with. A crossbow. Well it looked like it would be a nervous flight inbound and outbound. Keith rose his hands in surrender hesitantly.

“I call front this time, and maybe a nice upbeat tune. Unless you're waiting on someone, then, well - I can just hop on a flying horse with someone else. I don't want to seem like I am just clinging to the first cute face I see.”

"If you want the front and to pick the music, you can just shotgun you know?" He lowered his hands back on the horse. Then he picked up on some other certain words she said. "Cute face? Thank...thank you." Keith wanted to say her face was cute too but he wasn't good at the whole compliment business. Especially as the timing would have made it sound forced. Okay snap out of it. She probably meant nothing of it.

Keith hovered his hands out to lift her. "May I?" When Cherise was on, Keith clambered on behind her. He couldn't hug her as tight as he wanted on the rollercoaster with the crossbow in the way, so it was indeed bound to be a nervous flight back to camp as well. Before they took off, Keith brushed aside her hair softly to expose an ear and gently placed the earbud in, then handed her his music to pick a song and readied an earbud in his own ear.

He was relying heavily on company and music to distract him from the fear of falling and on uncertain angles, he would tighten his grip around her. Despite nerves etc, he did believe they made it to Camp in one piece. Being too eager to dismount, he stumbled a little, but other than that, they were dandy. "Made it again, woo." He went for the high five again before realizing he hadn't helped her down yet. "Sorry." He grinned and held out a hand for her.

"I think I'm developing a phobia of crossbows," he confessed uneasily. "You're not gonna live with that thing attached to your back, right?" That might have caused some friction in their developing relationship. A lovely girl with a crossbow was a real mixed message. The camp was already loaded with nasty, feisty and fighting demigods, she didn't have to add to those numbers.

Son of Zeus || Hex: Green Outfit: XXX

Image ~Okay Ajax, I'll ride with you, but I won't be able to talk with you until we get back to camp.~ That was fine by him since he needed to go over his own thoughts anyway about the entire trial. Seeing everything his sister had done due to manipulation, and the feeling of not being able to protect her from it in the first place. He blamed himself, yet again.

~Lia is my nickname. So, after you I guess?~

He could tell she was finding it awkward, or that she was feeling anxious about the entire situation he had invited her into, but she would be ago once he had given her the time to warm up to him.

Ajax motioned his head to the horse with a smile. "Ladies first." he carefully took hold of her waist and hoisted her up onto the horse's back before hopping on behind her, before he took the reins and chuckled as he felt her tense up slightly with his arms either side of her. "Relax. I'm not going to hurt you, or throw you off mid-flight. I promise. That's only for those who start singing annoying songs." he joked, knowing that she wouldn't be able to with being quiet. It wasn't long before they were back at Camp. The horse executed its landing perfectly before he hopped off and helped Iliana down gently. "See, wasn't so bad was it?" he asked, and gave her shoulder a gentle, comforting rub. "I swear I'm not all Mr.Angry."

***

The following day, Ajax woke with the feeling that he hadn't slept that well. The trial still lingering in his head, the feeling of his own girlfriend hating him more than ever, and how everyone was going to be now Alex was free.

There was always going to be tension in the air no matter what, and after yesterday... they needed something normal. Something that could at least allow them to relax for a little while Maybe a beach party like last year? It would be easy to set up. Daniel was the only person, so far, that he knew was enthusiastic about music, or maybe they could set up a cushioned area on the beach, huge fabric screen to watch a horror movie or something like that?

He got out of bed and put on some clean clothes after quickly using the bathroom to wash etc, and headed outside and headed towards the canteen to get some breakfast.

He sat in the far corner by himself, for now, hoping that he wasn't looking unapproachable to those who needed him as the staff announcement came through the speakers. "As soon as you can, head to the staff cabin and vote for the poll that is pinned outside. Movie night and games with drinks and food, or Just a traditional Campfire, music, games, drinks and food." the speakers squeaked slightly as they turned off, and Ajax remained to enjoy his morning cereal of cornflakes. He had voted for the movie night.

After conversing with the one named Evelyn, Ethan stayed behind to wait for his friends. First to arrive back was Iliana, who was with Ajax. Seeing the two interact, he decided to let them 'talk' before he would go greet them.

Iliana had wanted to smile or laugh at a few of the things that Ajax mentioned. The bit about annoying singing had been one of them, but the best she could do was a slight upturn of the corners of her mouth. However her eyes had shined in amusement. She was trying, but it was a slow go. The ride itself was fine. After he helped her dismount, Ajax asked if the ride wasn't so bad and mentioned he wasn't always angry. She had a feeling that the question he asked was rhetorical, but she shook her head regardless. While it was true he wasn't angry now, who was to say that would change? It was at that moment she saw Ethan. Relieved to see him at least, she turned back to Ajax and quickly wrote in her notepad.

~Thank you for the ride back. I guess I'll see you later.~

After bowing to him, she quickly went over to Ethan.

"Well now, did you enjoy your ride with Ajax there? I guess all that leaves now is your brother. Would you like to wait for him?

Iliana nodded and the two stood together in silence.

It really didn't take Heath long to return to camp. Even though Zeus hadn't been able to help much, Athena and him were able to discuss a few possibilities. She would go to Hecate and Hephaestus for help in making an amulet to help ward off negative emotions. She would deliver it to Heath herself or have someone give it to him or Iliana, hopefully by the end of the week at the most. By the time they finished their talk, all the other demigods had left. Luckily there was still one horse left. When Heath landed he quickly saw his sister and Ethan. As he approached, Ethan was the first to speak up.

"There you are. What took you so long?"

"I was talking with my mother and Zeus about Iliana. We're going to try and get Lia an amulet to help protect her from negative emotions to where at least they won't affect her as much. So what we decided, with Zeus's permission, was to get Hecate and Hephaestus involved. Hephaestus can make the amulet and Hecate can charm it. How does that sound, Lia?"

Iliana looked at Heath in surprise. She didn't know why she didn't think of something like that in the past. It was aggravating on how much influence people's emotions had on her. Want to tell Heath of her appreciation, she wrote something down and showed it to him.

~That you so much Heath.~

She gave him a hug. The three talked about the trial a bit before deciding to go back to their cabin to do their own thing before the day was over.

The night had been a rough one for all three. For one thing, several times during the night, Iliana had woken up crying and screaming. She was having nightmares again. This was why she actually slept with Heath, even though their cabin had three bedrooms. Heath never knew what nightmare Iliana was having for she either had nightmares about her father's murder or her kidnapping. This time he wouldn't be surprised if the nightmare was her father's death. He had learned about her conversation with Mason from her. Each time Iliana woke up, Ethan had come in to since he heard her cries. It was sad crying and screaming were the only sounds she made now. On the 3rd time Iliana had a nightmare that night, Ethan stayed in the same room and Iliana finally went to sleep.

She was actually the first one of them to wake up. She noticed that both Ethan and Heath were sound asleep. While she was tired herself, she was more drained then anything. Yesterday after they returned to the cabin she found out where the greenhouse and gardens were. Needing something to calm her nerves and hopefully revive her a bit, she go changed into her 'garden clothes' before leaving a note and left the cabin just around sunrise.

After an hour of gardening in the greenhouse, she returned to their cabin to see them still asleep. She decided to get going without them for once because she was now very hungry. She took a shower, got changed, and left another note she'd be at the main hall.

Walking towards the hall she heard an announcement.

"As soon as you can, head to the staff cabin and vote for the poll that is pinned outside. Movie night and games with drinks and food, or Just a traditional Campfire, music, games, drinks and food."

There was just one problem with that, Iliana didn't know where the main cabin was. And both options didn't sound too appealing to her. Iliana had always been picky about movies and she never been to many game nights. So she wouldn't worry about it at the moment. Reaching the main hall, she saw several people there, including Ajax, Mason, a redhead she didn't recognize, and Poseidon's daughter. What was her name again? Sighing, Iliana focused on getting breakfast and after getting some, decided to sit on her own, hoping that Ethan and Heath would arrive soon.

Image Mason was in as good as another world when a voice brought him back to reality. "Good morning, my name is Penelope Givens and I just got in last night. Oh you can call me Nelly. I just wanted to introduce myself really quick before getting my breakfast. I am so famished right now."

Mason rose a brow. Because he cared about her level of hunger. He shook his head to himself and bit into his toast, dusting some crumbs from his fingers when she returned. "I don't like being alone so I hope you don't mind me sitting here."

Another girl afraid of the dark. Awesome. "I'll stick to Penelope," he told the girl sitting across from him and chowing down on her food. Somebody had a habit of making themselves at home. But seriously did he have camp orientation glued to him. The amount of frickin newbies that approached him and cared to introduce themselves. In Penelope's defence, he was one of the few already in the hall so she couldn't see the likes of Wes or Eve who actually indulged conversation. But there was Liv so..."I'm Mason," he said, since he was a hot topic and every random demigod happened to know his name and story anyway. "That's Liv over there. She loves company and meeting new people. A real chatterbox."

And on cue Ajax entered. Mason smirked slightly. "That's Jax. He's a real jackass, hence the name. He's busy making sure the world revolves around him and his sister, even though he has a smoking girlfriend. I think, according to him they have a one-sided open relationship. You know, she can't care for another guy or compliment them, but he can screw all the chicks he wants because he's Mr. Athens."

Penelope wanted the Hades version of company and orientation and he delivered. Bit by bit, more demigods filed in. Mason had developed an opinion on most of them, but the important ones to cover were the Valises. He was trying to prevent groupies of the Valises but Penelope didn't seem different. Because they had the blood of Zeus, she'd grovel at their feet too.

"As soon as you can, head to the staff cabin and vote for the poll that is pinned outside. Movie night and games with drinks and food, or Just a traditional Campfire, music, games, drinks and food."

They all sounded lame coming from the speakers. "Actually, there's this guy, Theo, that you might like." 'He's also an ass kisser, and pretty spineless. But nice to pretty faces and adventurous.' Mason was probably better leaving that out. "So what are you going to choose?" he asked, as got to his feet and gestured to Liv's table as if more were merrier.

He sat across from Liv. "Hey," he said. What remained of breakfast was a bite or two, which he devoured as the girls talked or silent treated each other. He rolled up his sleeves and glanced at his watch. "Crap, I got a thing to do." Mason stood up, resting his hands on Penelope's shoulders, smiling to Liv. "Your turn for daycare, sweety" he winked to the daughter of Poseidon and left. He was lucky to have sat with Liv for two minutes before offloading the new girl onto her. Oh well, survival of the fittest.

Mason took his plate, dumping it in the sink and headed out.

"Liam... I have to tell you something." are words that no man wants to hear at all, so when they fall from her lips, the son of Ares sighed deeply. He drew his gaze to her, head tilted and expression expectant.

"In Olympus... I used my powers on you." Liam looked confused at first. He didn't recall that she had used anything on him, but he was not very well-versed in all of this magic demigod shit. He was quiet and allowed for her to continue. "I only warned you about people like my brother at camp and gave you strong enough influence to not be manipulated by people with powers like my own. By someone like Sylas." While she felt like a monster, it wasn't lost upon him that she had felt nothing more than concern for the other campers. Had he not known the degree to which Sylas was inherently evil, he might have been livid at the thought that she had managed to make him an unwitting vessel to use her powers on. "I knew that the moment my brother saw you he'd do anything to make you his puppet…. That scared me. An Ares son under the influence of... Sylas."

It wasn't long after her whispered words that she had started to pack her things. How typical of a woman to assume before a man can get a word out. "It should wear off in a couple of hours and I will never do it again without your permission." Liam allowed her to continue to believe that she was going to leave the cabin and wander off knowing that she had nowhere to go. The way she had avoided having to answer his question about where she would even go, to begin with, he was led to believe that he was going to be her only option. Unless she wanted to go back to her brother, and he would not allow that. Period. "I'll... figure out somewhere else to go."

As she walked out of his room and eventually out the cabin, he sat there on the edge of the bed trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Sloane had nowhere to go, and it wasn't like he was offering her charity. He also didn't want her to feel like she had to be watched, or that he was her babysitter. She was a free woman that could make her own choices, but she did not have the option to stay with that monster. He brought his hands to his face, rubbing it and sighing.

It wasn't that he didn't want her there. Truth be told, some inkling of him did - even if now he suspected that her powers might have swayed the way he thought about her. She wasn't his type, but there was something about her that had some strange allure.

Not that that should be the only reason why she could stay - that he was somewhat and confusingly attracted to her. She needed help, and that was the first and best reason for her to stay. It didn't matter if she never spoke to him as friends, or if she found him repulsive overtime - she'd be safe. She was a victim of sibling abuse. He'd never forgive himself if Sylas hurt her again.

He rose from the edge of the bed and carried himself out of his room, out the front door, and then onto the porch. He watched Sloane for a time - she wasn't going anywhere because she didn't have any place to go. He crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe, waiting for her to go somewhere. Maybe she noticed, perhaps she didn't.

Eventually, he decided that she was going to stand there forever if he didn't retrieve her. So, he moved toward her, stepped out in front of her, and reached out to grab the strap of the duffle bag and relieve her of it. “Sloane, let’s talk about this later, okay? I trust that you had good intentions, and after seeing what your brother is capable of, I believe that you made the only choice you thought you could. I would have appreciated a heads-up, but I get it. I'm not the most approachable guy, and I am probably not smart enough to notice."

He paused for a moment or two so that all of that could sink into her brain and held her duffle bag at his side. “Stay. I want you to stay with me, even if I have to sleep on the couch. You're not a burden to me." He stepped closer, and if she didn't recoil immediately, he reached his other hand up so that his thumb could brush the scab of her lip. Even his fingers tried just to push the collar of her shirt down enough to observe the discoloration of her neck. Of course, she had that choice not to allow him to touch her at all - at which he would cease.

"I mean, you can stand out here if you want to, but your things will be inside. You also stink, so… the shower will be waiting for you, too." He gave her his best smug grin, and with her bag in tow, he left her there to go shower himself.

Whether or not she decided to let go of that fragile, insecure woman thing and come back, he showered quickly, changed into a pair of blue jeans, a t-shirt, and didn't bother to brush his hair. He was okay with the rough look.

After that, he sat on the couch with his pup and his thoughts. He didn't care about parties or movie nights right now.

She had been enjoying a rather bland meal, reading her book all on her own and without any interference. Then came Mason and the new girl, of whom she lowers her book just beneath her eyes to gaze upon flatly. "Your turn for daycare, sweety" It was perfectly clear that the chatter was unwelcome, not that the son of Hades was concerned with that. She set her book down completely, tilted her head, and locked gazes with Mason, ”Oh, petulant man-child, how Hades blessed the human realm with your perfectly symmetrical face and innocent intentions. How kind of you to grace me with someone you would typically give the grand tour to if it were not for you needing to drink away your rampant daddy-issues.” Now, Liv was not well-known for keeping her tongue tactful when she didn’t feel like doing so. Mason could make her life hell, but it was already hell so it didn’t really matter. To be honest, she felt sorry for him, but it was hard to show it when he was such a dick. There was nothing else to do with this one than to deliver the same sarcastic smack as he so often delivered with that stupid smirking face of his.

It would be less irritating if he weren't so hot.

She wriggles her fingers at him in a sarcastic wave as he departs, "Buh-bye now, dear, try not to be too angsty today. Remember, daddy loves you," She calls out with a pause before continuing in that over joyous but sarcastically colored tone, "- when he decides you're useful to him." She popped off a smile, but it was quick and swiftly replaced by her neutral expression as she drags her attention to Penelope.

”Well, on that note - welcome to Camp Athens. I like to call it High School, but with a dash of powers, killer demigods, romance problems on steroids, and whatever else you can imagine, but worse than that." She smiled and waited for the girl to take her turn to speak. There wasn't much else to say on behalf of herself or the Camp because Liv wasn't exactly part of any clique - new or old. She was just here, minding her own business sometimes and getting into other business other times.

"Sorry, I was just getting out of the shower," a voice stopped her just short of walking out of the door. When she turned around, she stared at Sylas wordlessly - only because he had caught her by surprise. Of course, she had waltzed into his cabin without so much as an invitation. They didn’t know each other. It was a little bit awkward.

It was not awkward that he was without a shirt. Cherise has seen a man or two in her lifetime, so it wasn't that big of a deal to her. It was that she seemed to have stumbled upon an injured man as if it were some sort of taboo that she happened upon. Her eyes drank in the various blemishes that riddled his obviously battered body, but they soon disappeared underneath the sweater. The bruises along his torso did not compare to the ring of discoloration settling around his neck.

If she had been slightly disturbed about the cabin before, she started to feel - settled. It was strange how Sylas could make her go from feeling cautious to comfortable. Perhaps it was the fact that he was obviously a victim of some heinously violent individual. What could she say? She has a soft spot for victims, and it's because she's been one herself in the past.

He approached and reached up to take her hand, and she settled her small palm in his firm grasp. "Cherise is it? I'm Sylas. I appreciate your concern. Sorry to have distracted you from your run. I was just about to go get some breakfast... If you wanted to join.

She smiled once her fingers withdrew, and it was a sweet and understanding curve of the lips that had a tinge of sympathy with the overwhelming need to ask questions right behind them on the tip of her tongue. Something was crawling through her - a thought, a feeling - that she knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that someone terrible did this to Sylas, and whoever it was needed to be put down.

Not that she could put the son of Ares down without considerable amounts of weaponry and power control. But that's a story for another day.

”Sylas,” she parrots softly, committing the name the face now imprinted in her mind. " Nice to meet you, and I was done with it anyway. I was actually going to go get breakfast myself, so I wouldn't mind joining you."

Cherise wasn't going to go get changed. A sports bra was not exactly something that one would normally wear in public unless they are actually doing something - well, sporty, but she obviously had by the sheen of sweat gracing her chest and upper back.

" So, um - I don't mean to pry, but who did that to you?" She inquired finally, "Not that you are obligated to answer, of course. It's not like I am the Camp avenger or anything. I'm just wondering who to stay away from," she assured him.

The person who did this must be a monster, played through her head over and over again.

Eventually, both Sylas and Cherise would find themselves in the cafeteria, and it was a bit too packed for her liking. That, and she just so happened to land her attention onto Keith, of whom she was pretty sure she yelled at last night. Any kind of scolding, no matter how tame, made her feel undeniably guilty. She made an ass of herself and perhaps got a bit too defensive.

Then there was Evelyn and she recalled Sylas conversing with her on Olympus yesterday. It occurred to her that he might want to approach the redhead, even if that meant she had to face Keith with all of the embarrassment.

Maybe it wouldn't be too awkward.

Once the unlikely duo made their way to Evelyn's table, Cherise pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear - as she often does when nerves get the best of her, and offers an unusually small greeting to the both of them, "Good morning, Evelyn, Keith." However, the smile that came over her when she looked from Evelyn to Keith was wide and probably had flirty undertones. Once she noticed that she had actually smiled when she meant to retain some semblance of her dignity, she thought to retreat rather quickly. "I - uh, need food and... a shower... real clothes that are not these clothes..."

That was as good of an excuse as any because she wasn't looking like a ball of sunshine. More like a ball of sweat, tussled hair, hair that clung to her face with aforementioned sweat, one earbud in that was no longer playing music (only the gods know where the other went), her face without make-up, and an overall picture of someone that hadn't had their caffeine yet.

Even Cherise couldn't be sweet with all that going on this early.

Just as she turned around and took a couple of steps, she felt stupid for not verbally dismiss herself, she pivoted to face all three of them and offers a flustered, "Bye," before she went on her way.

It was awkward.

She gave off little waves to the demigods that were scattered around here and there, but otherwise got herself something to eat without much else. She was strongly considering to take it to go as she stood between a table and the nearest exit with a bowl in her hand.

Nelly kept her words to herself as Mason introduced himself and began talking about different campers. When he mentioned Liv, Nelly spotted her and remembered her from the trial about finding more evidence. Looks like she was a new camper like herself. Liv didn't appear to be a chatterbox, not like her. For one thing she had deliberately sat alone and was reading. Nelly looked back at Mason when he talked about Ajax. He had also mentioned his girlfriend. Was he jealous? She wondered who this girlfriend was. Whelp, she find out soon enough. One thing was obvious though, Mason hated Ajax and his sister. She remembered his testimony. He comment about Ajax screwing around caused Nelly to raise an eyebrow. Wasn't he one to talk? She had gotten a good whiff of Mason when she sat down and he obvious hadn't had a shower yet because she could smell something on him that totally feminine. He'd been with someone. She wonder if she should tell him that, but with Ajax in the vicinity, combine with her loud voice, and her not knowing who he'd been with, yeah things might not go well for Mason. While Nelly was no stranger to trouble, she did try to avoid causing it if possible. She'll just mention it to him when she got the chance.

All thoughts left her mind when he directed her to follow him to Liv's table. She laughed when he mentioned it was time for Liv to babysit her.

"I am a big girl, daddy, but thank you for your concern."

Liv then proceeded to converse with Mason with a very tart reply. Nelly just let her have her say while watching Mason's reaction. The girl could certainly hold her own. Finally the brunette addressed her.

”Well, on that note - welcome to Camp Athens. I like to call it High School, but with a dash of powers, killer demigods, romance problems on steroids, and whatever else you can imagine, but worse than that."

Nelly giggled before replying, "I've never went to HS so this might be interesting. My mother hired tutors for me because we traveled all the time. Still I only got a GED. Never went to college because by then I was making a living off of my pictures. Oh my name is Penelope, but I prefer Nelly. Roles off the tongue easier. Mason told me you're Liv. Do you prefer to be called that? It sounds like a nickname."

Even though her attention was focused on Liv, she made note of those who also showed up. One in particular caught her eye and that guy looked like he went through the gauntlet. Gees, what happened to him? He'd been silent in the trial, but she remembered he had been sitting with the redhead girl. As she waited for Liv to reply, she also saw a blonde conversing with Ajax, but he didn't look like he was enjoying her company.

"I can see what you mean about romance problems on steroids. I only got in last night, but my dad, Hermes, showed me what happened yesterday through a pensive with his memories. Is there anything else I should be aware of because it looks like I got her at tense time?"

That last question was asked in a serious tone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iliana watched and ate as other campers arrived. She purpose sat in a place where she could see everything. Nothing really caught her attention though until Cherise showed up with one she only saw briefly before, but knew he was on Ethan and Heath's radar. The two had approached a redhead and Keith. Iliana waved back to Cherise when the girl waved to her as she left. Soon Keith wasn't far behind. It wasn't long before that blonde minx showed up. She first went over to the redhead's table and said something. Iliana wished she was closer to she could hear them. Soon the blonde left to get her own breakfast and made a beeline for Ajax. Iliana frowned and would have joined them, but soon the same guy who told her run yesterday, sat down in front of her. She wasn't expecting this at all.
“What's your name again?”
She started writing that down in her notepad, but then he asked her a question she wasn't too surprised with.
“And why don’t you speak?”
She had a feeling that someone here would ask her that one day. She had prepared herself for that too. She already knew she would be as honest as she was able, but not say everything because she didn't know all the answers herself. She wrote down her answers before showing it to the dark hair guy.
~My name is Iliana. What is yours? And I don't know the exact reason why I can't talk because my memory is all foggy and fractured. All I can tell you is that I was hurt . . . by humans last year and it left me traumatized.~
It was then she saw Heath and Ethan enter the hall. The two guys woke up and saw her note. After taking a shower and getting dressed themselves, they headed straight for the hall. Heath frowned when he saw Pete with his sister. Ethan kept his grin on his face though. The two soon got their own breakfast before going over to Iliana and Pete.
"Good morning Lia. Did we miss something this morning?"
Iliana was quick to write down all she heard and saw that morning and showed it to her friend and brother. She also asked one check on Cherise and the other help Ajax. The two nodded and ate.
"Don't worry, Lia, we'll see to it. You take care of yourself then. And you," Heath said turning to Pete,"Next time you tell my sister to run, I suggest you warn us next time. Excuse us now."
With that, the two guys left the hall.
"Ethan, you go help Ajax since you're more familiar with him. I'll check on Cherise. I want to be able to figure out if Sylas had any influence on her and to see what Eve might have said."
"You be careful then. Are you sure you don't me handling that part since Eve and Sylas are able to manipulate people? Since I can influence others myself, they wouldn't be able to affect me."
"That's exactly why I want you with Ajax. You won't be able to get under her influence."
"Righto then. Good luck. Ethan said before returning to the hall.
He approached Ajax and Eve and immediate sat next to Ajax, not even bothering to address Eve.
"Hey, how are you doing? Heath and I woke up a little late, but I thought I heard an announcement. Do you know what is was?"
Heath soon found Cherise, who was with some other guy. He recognized him for he sat with her during the trial.
"Hi there, sorry if I am interrupting. Iliana wanted to see how you were Cherise. She could tell something was troubling you."
Liam welcomed Rocco with open arms; the pup wagging its tail and sticking its nose up against his neck and under his chin in an attempt to lap at some part of his face. Eventually, he grabbed the dog gently at either side of its face and gave it soft squish - like that kind of subdued pressure you give to little animals when you just want to squeeze them to death because of their undeniable cuteness. Because you can’t - especially if you’re the son of Ares, then you really have to watch how you go about doing that.
"I guess it's my turn then," Sloane said to him, and that drew his gaze from the overly cuddly up trying to climb up his shoulders, to her. "Thanks Liam." Then her lips met his cheek, and it left him just a little speechless. He wasn't used to women that simply pecked him - he was all about the full-blown make-out sessions from the doorway to the bedroom (if they made it to a bedroom anyway). A kiss on his cheek was different, but it wasn't bad.
And no, he wasn't going to objectify her. Verbally, anyway. Hell, not even in his mind as he watched her scamper off to the bathroom. He looked over at Rocco and pulled the canine down to look it in the eyes. They locked gazes, and he inquires seriously, "She looked, didn't she?" The dog tilted its head from side to side, as it had done with Sloane previously - clearly not capable of understanding what these strange humans were trying to communicate. "You think she liked what she saw?" Rocco barked at him, and it was a tiny noise that caused Liam to chuckle. "Yeah, she did. It's always the quiet ones." He offered it a wink, and the dog took off just in time for Sloane to emerge from the shower.
"I can go make myself scarce... Wonder around camp or get my things, so you don't have to babysit me. I don't ruin your chances with the girls at camp." She teased him, and he scoffs at her. "I'm beginning to think that the women here are too smart to sleep with me. I'm sure that you will make me seem less - repugnant, actually." He gave her that single squinty-eyed look that had playfully accusing undertones. He didn't speak for a minute or two and held her in suspense.
Maybe he'd say something sweet to her like: Why would I want other girls when you are a natural beauty? or, I don't care if you stay by my side. You see, these were the things that he wanted to say, but was clearly incapable of croaking out at the expense of sounding like a woman.
"Unless you liked what you saw and you don't want me with other girls?"
Nope, he went ahead and spewed out the dumbest thing he could think of. Probably the less emotionally tethered string of words that coursed through his testosterone-filled brain. Liam was a stereotypical meathead. If you saw the son of Ares, your first thoughts of him were probably the correct ones - high school drop-out, couldn't tell you the name of a single piece of literature that wasn't pornography, sexist pig, smug - a real manly man on that A-type personality level. For him to actually tell a girl that she was beautiful might shrink his biceps by ten inches. To say she had a nice rack, well - that was always the better route. Yet, he couldn't do that with Sloane. Not that she didn't have a nice body - he wouldn't know, but he just… couldn’t.
He had it in his mind - she bewitched him. She was sly. Yeah, he was going to go with that.
He placed his hands on his knees and pushed himself up, "Let's go get the rest of your shit from your cabin while your brother's out. Not that I mind that smell on you," he grinned and wiggled his eyebrows a few times in jest.
Mostly. Like 40%.
Liv smiled at Penelope as she stabbed a piece of egg with a fork and then popped it into her mouth. The redhead spoke, and she'd offer a nod or two. As she spoke of Eve, her eyes follow the blonde vixen as she meandered through the cafeteria to weave her early morning chaos. Right at that time when literally no one has touched a cup of coffee yet.
"I've never went to HS so this might be interesting. My mother hired tutors for me because we traveled all the time. Still I only got a GED. Never went to college because by then, I was making a living off of my pictures. Oh, my name is Penelope, but I prefer Nelly. Roles off the tongue easier. Mason told me you're Liv. Do you prefer to be called that? It sounds like a nickname."
"Oh, it's just Liv. It's not Livianna or whatever else it might be short for. My mother was a cruel, cruel woman. Loved to keep people on their toes."
"I can see what you mean about romance problems on steroids. I only got in last night, but my dad, Hermes, showed me what happened yesterday through a pensive with his memories. Is there anything else I should be aware of because it looks like I got her at a tense time?"
She nodded slowly, looking back at Penelope with a slight wince. "You should stay away from that one. She loves the drama, I guess. She can literally have the entire camp slitting each other's throats in seconds. I, for one, have decided to make like Switzerland and just sit back and watch as she lays her web. It's not really that hard to do, it would seem. I think she's disrupted pretty much every relationship that has formed. Girl's got skill, I say."
She leaned forward, ignoring whatever else is going on. Just as she said, she would. "A model or photographer?" Liv inquires, trying to find a way to keep the conversation going without immediately shutting this girl out. It didn't hurt to make a friend or two, but she wasn't sure how she's supposed to do it.
Someone’s bare hand was now on her waist, and it took her a minute to turn and look to see that it was Keith. Who else could it have been? "Hey, are we okay? I mean, I'm sorry for not taking in more than your sunshine, I didn't mean to offend you." He was quick to realize what he thought was an err on his part my withdrawing his touch, "Sorry for that too." But of all the questions going through her mind right now, will you please stop touching me was definitely not one of them. "Can we...do you wanna sit outside while the sun's out? "I do owe you a coffee,"
She nodded at his inquiry about going outside while the sun was still out. Who knows how long it will be until it hid away behind the clouds under a spell of rain again. Not that she minded the rain. As they began to walk, a bowl of cut fruit in hand, she placed a piece or two in her mouth. The first moment or two would be relatively quiet, and maybe it was even awkward. She looked pleasant, at the very least, smiling at whatever her eyes landed on - a tree, the sky.
"You don't need to apologize," she spoke only when she had all of her thoughts in order. "For anything." She turned her head so that her dark brown eyes could land on him and judge his reactions to her words. Maybe there was something about anything that she was trying to subtly get through his head. Maybe.
Then there was the son of Hades sitting under a tree. There must be a joke in there somewhere, but when she looked back at Keith, she narrowed her eyes slightly. Something was wrong there, and her attention travels to Mason curiously. He didn't look pleasant at all - like someone she should avoid. Her current companion, however, seemed apprehensive about something. He wanted to approach, but something was stopping him.
She made sure that her bowl was tightly secured in one hand, and then hooked her other arm through his. Her hand wrapped around his tricep, and she tucked herself in close. It could be platonic, it could not be. It was up for his own interpretation, but she tried to divert him from the Hades child so that they could put this awkwardness aside. She led both of them to a bench, and she sat down after unhooking her arm and set the bowl down so she could scoot close to him.
”I’m the one that should apologize, really. I mean, I got really defensive without considering all that you have been through. You don't know me, and maybe it will take some time for you to trust me. I just want you to know that, as silly as it sounds, my intuition is compelling me to offer you a safe space - something, anything." She paused for a moment, "If you need something, Keith, anything at all - just let me know. But if you need me to beat up the son of Ares, you'll have to give me a few days notice to make sure that I can come up with a clever plan." Cherise laughed at that, even if it wasn't entirely funny. She also hoped that she never had to do that. Ever.
She leaned back against the bench at that point and tilted her head back to look up at the canopy of trees where the sun poked through. She almost snuck her hand very close to his own - maybe a hair away, before another voice caused her to withdraw immediately. From surprise.
"Hi there, sorry if I am interrupting. Iliana wanted to see how you were Cherise. She could tell something was troubling you," Heath said, and she averted her eyes from whatever she was looking at to greet him with her best smile.
"Oh, oh!" She said that twice, caught off guard by the thought that someone was concerned for her well-being. It was a nice feeling that she doesn't often get to savor. "You’re not interrupting at all! Also, I am fine. I think maybe the stress of a new place is kind of getting to me, but I will be just great." Well, he certainly kept her from grabbing Keith's hand, which could have turned out pretty badly anyway. What had she been thinking? "We were just weighing our party options - campfire or movie night. I actually thought that a campfire would be nice if the weather is good for it. How about you?"
Cherise easily slipped into conversation with anyone, and that same sweet smile accompanied every single time. She was still shoulder to shoulder with Keith, just as a reminder that she hadn't forgotten about him.
"Oh, it's just Liv. It's not Livianna or whatever else it might be short for. My mother was a cruel, cruel woman. Loved to keep people on their toes."
"Hey that's fine with me, Liv. With my energy I always kept my mom on her toes, but she's adventurous herself so she didn't mind. But anyway it's nice to meet you."
Indeed, she was thrilled to have hit it off with someone so far. Now the problem would be staying in touch consistently. She was always good at making friends, but keeping them was hard for her.
Liv then warned her about the blonde not too far away. She was sitting with a gorgeous guy and as clueless as Nelly could be when it came to 'romance', she could tell that the guy was not interested in her.
"Oh I'll definitely keep an eye on her then. This should be interesting. I do plan on getting to know everyone here. I do remember her from that court scene and even though she wasn't speaking up, I do remember her sitting with another guy. One of my abilities is my photographic memory so that helps."
She continued eating and was almost done when Liv asked if she was a photographer or model. The model part caught her a bit off guard and she laughed in response.
"Definitely a photographer, hun. I am too independent for my own good and do not take direction well. I've met a few models and omg, it's like that have no meat on their bones at all! And oh, I do documentary pictures mostly from landscapes to city scapes."
Suddenly, all hell broke lose when Andy arrived with who Nelly remembered being Ares's daughter, Trinity. The dark hair lady zeroed in on the minx and really laid it on her, even going so far as to physically threatening her and using her powers. Even Nelly was a little scared of her. Her own skills were the 'threatening type' like Andy's so seeing those kind of powers being used now was unnerving. So this was Ajax's girlfriend. Now the pieces were coming together bit by bit. The blonde, Eve, started to leave, but soon had a few words of her own. One part definitely caught Nelly's attention.
“Now that I think about it though, that must make you feel pretty crappy. Ajax is such perfect, loyal boyfriend to you, and you can’t even fake loyalty. Since we all know you're not a one man kind of gal.”
Now that was eye opening. Nelly's gaze looked at Ajax's reaction and saw him clench his jaw. Did Andy have feelings for someone else? She immediately thought of Mason who appeared to have a thing for Andy based on what he told her. Oh lovely, a love triangle and you add Eve into the mix and it was just one big mess. After making a comment about the 'birds and the bees', Eve left and it wasn't long before Trinity as well as Ajax and Andy. Nelly whistled and turned back to Liv.
"Wow! Now that was intense! You know, Mason told that Ajax has been with other girls, yet according to Eve, Ajax is the loyal one and Andy is the one who is having issues. Now I can already tell Mason doesn't like Ajax, so I am wondering in all of this mess, where does the truth lie? My mom is a journalist and that is always her ultimate goal, to find the truth while being as unbiased as possible."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Iliana watched as the whole confrontation between Andy and Eve commenced. It was so intense that it left Iliana in shock and she couldn't even take in all the emotions from all parties present. She sensed Ethan using his own serenity inducement immediately to try and help the situation, but it seemed to bounce off of Andy. Only Ajax seemed to be the only one to calm down Andy. Her heart went out to the girl. Her powers were terrifying. Now she had an idea on how Heath and Ethan felt when she used her powers when mad. At least Andy had better control of her abilities because she could have easily killed Eve. Both Ajax and Andy ordered Eve to leave and she did, but not before getting the last word in. She had felt the girl's fear, but there was another emotion she couldn't put her finger on. Well, the girl reaped what she sowed. She looked over at the dark hair guy, read his emotions and wrote down down something before showing it to him.

~Are you okay?~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So there was a beach party tonight? Well that was bound to be something, Ethan thought. However all thoughts about a party exited his mind as Andy stormed in, along with Trinity. Immediately he started using his serenity inducement, but Andy's anger was so big that he had no effect on her. This was surprising to him for it was his best skill. This wasn't a good sign. Maybe he needed to practice more.
The confrontation didn't last long and soon all participating parties left. Great, now what? Ethan looked back at Iliana and saw she was in shock. Well, better to be in shock then an emotional mess. He decided he would keep an eye on her for Heath, but also kept an eye on Sylas and one of the redheads in the room. He noticed a completely new face come into the hall, but she soon left herself. Ethan figured he'd meet her soon enough. He would tell Heath what happened soon enough. Hopefully though he was having better luck on his end.
"You’re not interrupting at all! Also, I am fine. I think maybe the stress of a new place is kind of getting to me, but I will be just great. We were just weighing our party options - campfire or movie night. I actually thought that a campfire would be nice if the weather is good for it. How about you?"
Heath wondered Cherise was going to be fine. She wasn't lying, but Heath was still a bit pessimistic. Then his thoughts drifted to the mention of a party. He didn't recall hearing about a party. He did sleep in late, so maybe it happened then?
"Was there an announcement this morning about a party? I accidentally slept in this morning so I don't remember hearing one."
He also wasn't sure which party option he would pick. He wasn't the type who went to these kinds of social interactions.
Then the other guy spoke up and Heath finally paid attention to him. Something about the guy seemed 'off'. He was definitely uncomfortable. It wasn't long before he asked Cherise to heal him. Normally Heath was a nonchalant person, but even he couldn't hide the shock from his eyes.
"Wow, it's a miracle you survived. Oh what's your name again? I am Heath by the way. I am new to this camp."
"Dude, you seriously need to get laid!" Alex chucked a pillow at him and Wes was barely able to grab it before it smacked him in the face. "And NO, I am not offering"
"I wasn't talking about me," he corrected, throwing the pillow back at her. "I don't think having all of us in a dark room together is the smartest idea. You forget, I can tell when someone is lusting after someone else... Or has unspoken feelings." Wes cupped his hands together and batted his eyelashes like a dewy-eyed school girl. "I'd rather not stumble upon campers getting down and dirty."
"And for the record... I'm saving myself." Wes couldn't help but chuckle slightly at his comment. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know that he was not a virgin. "I plan to remain chaste until she wants me... And if she never does?" He shrugged his shoulders. "And so my watch begins," he laughed, quoting Game of Thrones.
After Wes begged Alex to not dress like a stripper, she sat down at the foot of the bed and rested her head on his calf. "You would be too tempted to stare yourself more like..."
Wes shook his head. "I'm sure I could abstain. Stripper isn't really my type. You'll be shocked to know I find modesty attractive." He made a fake shocked expression on his face, even gasping and bringing his hand to his mouth.
"I won't dress like a stripper, though. I promise. Besides, I don't think they'll be interested in me anyway. I'm pretty sure that Pete is only being nice to me because he felt sorry for me, and I.. well, Duke was with some other girl after the trial. Which, is totally fine. I don't know her name... Liv, or something like that?"
"And men and women aren't allowed to be friends?" He asked, quirking a brow. Wes then sighed as he sat up right on the bed, preparing for a moment of serious talk. "Ok, so first of all, any guy would be crazy not to be into you." Even though he was head over heels for another girl, Wes wasn't blind and he knew Alex was a catch. She was just intimidating... Honestly like half of the damn girls at camp. The kind to murder you in their sleep if you broke their heart. Wes was lucky he hasn't woken up to Trinity holding a blade to his throat.
"Well, I don't know this Pete guy... But in a single day his name has been mentioned just as much as Duke's. And no matter how much you want to hide it, I can sense how you feel about Duke. Now I don't know his deal." Wes shrugged, patting his legs to a slight beat before continuing. "He could be into you and just... doesn't know how to show it. Or, he's an idiot and doesn't know he likes you yet. Or he's just an idiot." Wes laughed. "Regardless you're single and free to do whatever you want and that includes making some dumb guys realize that they are blind." He then shrugged with a smile. Sometimes guys needed a little push.
"I'll grab that shower." He gave her a thumbs up as she wondered off toward the bathroom.
Wes must have been a lot more tired than he originally thought. At some point when Alex went to get cleaned, he must have dozed off. He didn't hear her exit the bathroom and was startled awake when he heard her speak. "Ready for a mini fashion show?"
He inhaled deeply as he stretched and groaned. Wes looked over at her with squinty eyes and gave her a thumbs up once again. "Dazzle me."
With a yawn, he propped himself up on his bionic arm, watching as Alex gathered a bunch of outfits and laid them out on the bed before him. "Which one do you think says... sexy but cute, best?"
"Well," he said as he moved to his feet to get a better view. "The parties are always at the beach... and we're at camp. I'd say nix these three," he said as he pointed at the second, fourth and fifth outfits. "I think they might say you're trying a little hard. Plus, they're pretty formal for getting shit faced drunk and you'll be pissed you wore heels in the sand."
Wes's lips pursed slightly as he looked at the remaining outfits. "I like these two," he pointed at the first and last outfits. "They look like something you'd wear to a bonfire. They show some skin, but not too much... So, it leaves somethings up to the imagination. Definitely one of those outfits girls wear when they feel cute and don't realize how hot us guys think it is."
He smiled. "You might want to save it for the party... Element of surprise and all that." Wes wiggled his eyebrows playfully. "Now what should I wear?" He teased, spinning around and posing. "What says 'I'm an idiot but you like me anyway'?' He laughed as he flopped back down on her bed, dropping the act.
“Perhaps you should preserve a potential ally’s face and ego.” Sylas gave a soft chuckle and a shake of his head. Evelyn was set on the whole concept of Sylas and Eve. Two manipulators joining forces to piss off the entire camp. But see, the blonde had no style and tact was out the window. He could have gotten the same effects she had, but it wouldn't have come back to bite him in the ass. Subtly is your best friend in this particular situation and her sense of self preservation seems to be lacking. If Sylas wanted to get under someone's skin like Andy, he definitely wouldn't blatantly flirt with her boyfriend. Foolish. “Tell me again why Eve won't go to you for a taste of the darker side?”
"You are persistent." He tapped his index finger against the table. "Eve is someone who likes to be in control... The dominant type." Sylas slowly looked over at Evelyn, speaking softly. "Well, so am I." A small smirk curved upon his face. "Two dominants don't make good bedfellows. And her blatant disregard for self preservation or tact would ruin my style."
"Eve will either see me as a challenge... or give me a wide birth. Only time will tell which path she chooses. But the princess doesn't seem to take it lightly when someone gets the upper hand on her." He motioned his head toward the commotion that still continued behind him. Sylas couldn't help but laugh slightly when he heard Andy scream at Eve. He snuck a glance over his shoulder, seeing the dutiful boyfriend holding her back while the blonde all but skipped away. "I'd pay to see that cat fight unfold." Was he a sadist? Perhaps. But it was a new day and the Gods intervened before Trinity's fight in Olympus could get anywhere exciting.
Sylas watched Evelyn as she quickly connected the dots of what had happened to him... to some extent anyway. She raised her chin slightly, as if she pieced it together. “I see. And you did nothing to provoke this attack of course?”
No, he wasn't going to answer honestly. And Sylas isn't the type to admit he deserved it even if he did. "Would that change your opinion of me?" he asked, more rhetorically.
“As long as you're in one piece. I don't think I'd much like your neck broken before I can figure you out.” Sylas smiled slightly at the comment, nodding his head toward her in understanding. He never expected someone to warm up to him when he wasn't playing the part of someone other than himself. But, he also wasn't dumb and knew a lot of it stemmed from her own interest in who he was and what his intentions were. If he wasn't vague or mysterious, she might have already moved on.
“Now get something to eat or drink before your master performance begins.”
Sylas quirked a brow in almost a sinister expression as he stood up. "Yes ma'am."As he walked away, he let the tips of his fingers brush along Evelyn's shoulder.
It didn't take him long to scrounge up something, opting for a bowl of cereal and an apple, having a craving for one after Evelyn tempted him. He sent the red head a quick wink before he beelined for another table. Well, she did ask for a performance and he wasn't going to get anything done if he spent all his time with Evelyn. No matter how much he'd enjoy that. So, he made his way to a table with the brunette he saw Trinity fight with the day before and some unknown redhead.
"Wow! Now that was intense! You know, Mason told that Ajax has been with other girls, yet according to Eve, Ajax is the loyal one and Andy is the one who is having issues. Now I can already tell Mason doesn't like Ajax, so I am wondering in all of this mess, where does the truth lie? My mom is a journalist and that is always her ultimate goal, to find the truth while being as unbiased as possible."
He caught the tail end of a conversation as he approached, flashing them both a charming and a bit bashful smile. "Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt. I was just wondering if this seat was taken." He pointed to an available seat beside Liv. "I don't think we've been properly introduced," he said, addressing both women. "I'm Sylas."
"That's enough now," Ajax said toward her, quietly as his hand gently rested on the small of her back. Andy sighed softly, slowly calming down. She had almost forgotten how soothing Ajax's presence was to her. It had only been a day, maybe two that they were at odds and not speaking, but it felt longer. She hadn't realized how much she missed him until she was there beside him, with his hand upon her. "I need to talk to you."
Andy inhaled sharply. Why was it whenever your significant other needed to talk that it felt like the world was ending. But she didn't have time to respond or even react before a voice came from behind her. “Sorry, sorry. I just felt I needed to clear something up.” Andy slowly turned to face the blonde who was seriously testing her patience. Eve's presence even caused Ajax to sigh. The blonde motioned between the two of them before speaking. “You should know you have nothing to worry about. I might have been a little bit flirty, but he was not interested. He went all growly, and was like leave me alone, I’m a one woman kind of guy.”
Yeah, and I'm the Pope, Andy thought to herself. But she didn't say anything. She just waited. Eve was too happy... too calm to feel the need to back pedal, there was something she wanted to add. Her own knife to sink in. She was a caged animal, and it was only natural for her to retaliate to try and regain some semblance of honor. “Now that I think about it though, that must make you feel pretty crappy. Ajax is such perfect, loyal boyfriend to you, and you can’t even fake loyalty. Since we all know you're not a one man kind of gal.”
"Bitch!" Andy shouted at Eve, no doubt getting the attention of nearly everyone in the hall... Maybe even more. She went to lunge for the blonde. Andy had every intention to hurdle the table and beat Eve within an inch of her life. But Ajax was faster than she was. He took ahold of her before she could act and held her back.
"Don't.. don't let her get under your skin." He spoke calmly to her, as he gently pulled her toward him. Andy took a deep breath, turning away from Eve and staring at the wall over Ajax's shoulder.
“Sorry, just grabbing my food. Sex always makes me so hungry.”
"Choke on it," Andy said, not even sparing the girl a glance.
"Just leave," Ajax demanded and Andy could only assume Eve left, because she didn't hear another word from her. She finally looked up at Ajax when she felt him shift to glance down at her. "So, about that talk?"
Andy swallowed as she nodded her head. As he began to lead her out of the cafeteria, she couldn't help but over hear part of a conversation from some girl she never met sitting across from Liv. "You know, Mason told that Ajax has been with other girls, yet according to Eve, Ajax is the loyal one and Andy is the one who is having issues. Now I can already tell Mason doesn't like Ajax, so I am wondering in all of this mess, where does the truth lie?"
She had half a mind to tell the girl to mind her own damn business. But instead Andy just glared at the girl as Ajax lead her out of the room and took her to a private part of the hall she hadn't been to before. She was thankful of that. That's all they needed was more gossip and rumors about their private life spreading through the camp like wildfire.
Andy found herself holding her breath until Ajax spoke. There was a lump in her throat while her hands began to tremble. Was this it? Had he finally had enough of her bullshit? Her friendship with Mason?... all of it. But she stood there silent, her fingers tugging at the sleeves of her shirt as she waited.
"I know I haven't been the greatest boyfriend to you, and for that, I'm sorry. Maybe that's why you fell for him, for Mason. He was able to give you what I wasn't. He was there for you when I wasn't. If.... if you want to be with him, then... who am I to stop you? I can't force you to stay with me, even if I want to." Andy finally breathed, but it wasn't out of relief. It was almost like gasping for air when there wasn't any.
Ajax gently took her face in his hands. The expression on his face killed her. Part of her just wanted to pull him closer and kiss him, kiss away his pain and worry. But this wasn't something they could kiss away and sweep under the rug. He deserved the truth... after the hell she's put him through. "I love you, Andy. I have loved you from the first moment I saw you, and I swear that I will do whatever it takes to be a better boyfriend, but if your hearts with him... then I have to let you go." She felt a tear run down her cheek as she held his gaze. "You deserve to be happy."
She took in a shakey breath. It was so hard to hold his gaze as he looked at her like that. What in the hell was she feeling? "I don't know what I want." It hurt her to say the words. Andy had been so focused on trying to keep everyone else happy over the past year that she had forgotten about herself. "I can't remember the last time I was happy," she sighed softly. She can barely remember her night with Ajax to know if she was truly happy then. She hopes she was. But she remembers the next morning and her panic also. Andy has been torn in two directions for so long, that she was losing herself in the middle of it all. Out of anyone, Ajax deserved that truth. She's been lying to herself and others by putting on a brave face and a forced smile.
"I'm not the girl I was a year ago," she added, shaking her head slightly. "I don't know if I'm capable of being happy anymore... or what would even make me happy." Andy sighed, trying to swallow the lump in her throat and stop the churning in her stomach. "You deserve happiness, more than I do," she concluded as her hand raised to wipe away a tear from her cheek.
Andy had hidden for so long from the truth, her burdens, confusion and sadness. It was no surprise that eventually others noticed. It killed her to stand before Ajax and say these things. But it was the truth. She was so lost that she was surprised she lasted as long as she did. He deserved someone who could treat him better than she could, who would support him.
Sloane had continued walking for several steps until she realized she didn't hear him trailing behind her. She slowed down and turned to face Liam finding him frozen where he stood. It seemed the second she looked at him, he turned his head away... like he was bashful or embarrassed. She regretted saying anything. Did she strike a nerve or offend him? Sloane took a step toward him and parted her lips to say something but froze once he decided to speak.
"I think the universe would owe you a great debt, Sloane," he responded even giving her a goofy grin.
She smiled slightly, but the concern still showed in her eyes and the way her brows tugged together. Sloane slowly walked up the stairs into her cabin. She stopped at the top and turned to face Liam, actually being at eye level or a little bit higher. "I don't have to." She said it plainly, so he didn't feel obligated to accept her help. If he didn't want it then she wouldn't impose. "I just wanted to offer something in return for what you did." That wasn't sex. But she didn't say it. Although Liam seemed to think with what was between his legs a fair bit, she had faith, at least, in somewhat serious conversations she wouldn't have to state that.
Sloane's gaze moved from Liam when she saw Rocco run inside the cabin, dragging his leash behind him. Without knowing what else to say, her fingers tugged at the sleeves of her cardigan as she spun around and headed inside. For a moment she hesitated in the doorway to her room. Everything, for the most part, still looked the same with only minor signs of a struggle. But that doesn't keep the images at bay. She sighed softly and finally entered.
Luckily, she hadn't unpacked that much. So, all she really had was a small suitcase and one other duffel bag. Sloane opened them and laid them out on her bed. Sloane couldn't help but notice how since they arrived, Liam barely stayed a few feet from her. Like he was worried any minute Sylas could come back. She tried not to think about it as she went over to her closet and took things from hangers, folded the clothes and placed them in the suitcase. All the while, Liam just dumped drawers of clothes into her other bag, surprisingly avoiding her underwear drawer.
"Why didn’t you tell anyone?"
Sloane's pace slowed as she placed the piece of clothing in her hands into the suitcase. By that point Rocco wondered his way into her room and was sniffing some of her things that managed to fall to the floor. She smiled slightly, picking him up and untangling his leash from the foot of her bed. She gave him a couple rubs on the ears before setting him on top of her pillows. Sloane wasn't avoiding the question, but part of her, even now, was worried that speaking ill of her brother would summon the devil himself. She took a blue ribbon from her bag and loosely tied it around Rocco's collar, sighing once she finished.
"I'm scared of him," she admitted as she started folding the clothes Liam haphazardly tossed into her bag. "Sylas... threatened to kill me if I ever spoke ill against him." Sloane didn't look over at Liam, although she could guess what his expression looked like. "He keeps his word." Although she never spoke out about her brother or told a soul, that wouldn't be how he saw it. Liam knew too much and in Sylas's mind, that was her fault. He'd find a moment when she was alone, that she didn't doubt. But instead of dwelling on future that awaited her, she tried to smile a little more and enjoy the freedom while she had it.
When Sloane finished folding the clothes Liam grabbed, she scooped up the duffle bag on her arm and carried it over to her dresser. She started taking the contents out of the drawer he didn't touch and toss them into the bag. "So... Why did you get involved?" She gave him an answer, so maybe she would get one in return. "You could have ignored it. Would have been safer for you."
She finished emptying the final drawer and zipped up her bag. On her dresser there sat a small little stuffed teddy that she couldn't even recall where she got it. Sloane scooped it up and tossed it onto the bed next to the puppy, who proceeded to sniff it curiously. Then he bit into it and shook his head all around. Funny how cute little animals always seemed to make things better. And as long as she was staying with Liam, there was a good chance that Rocco would be spoiled. After all, Sloane never had a pet, so she found herself already in love with the little guy.
Sloane gave a once over of her room. Nothing else there was of importance. She had what she needed. She put the strap from the duffle over her head, then lifted her suitcase from the bed. Thankfully it was on wheels so she could roll it. "That's everything." She couldn't help but wonder what other rumors would spread if someone saw her moving into Liam's cabin. She tried not to worry about that as she headed toward the door. "He can keep it," she said as she nodded her head and smiled toward Rocco who came trotting after them with the stuffed animal in his mouth. With one last glance over her shoulder at the cabin, she sighed and exited the cabin, for good.
"Wow! Now that was intense! You know, Mason told that Ajax has been with other girls, yet according to Eve, Ajax is the loyal one, and Andy is the one who is having issues. Now I can already tell Mason doesn't like Ajax, so I am wondering in all of this mess, where does the truth lie? My mom is a journalist, and that is always her ultimate goal, to find the truth while being as unbiased as possible," the new gal blurted out a little too excitedly for Liv. Despite the little brawl that transpired on Olympus, drama only left a trace of bitterness on her tongue. It was not a good feeling for her. She is the daughter of Poseidon. The Demigods might think that the Hades children have it worse off, and perhaps they do, but the god that holds dominion over the sea was anything but a kind and gentle deity. People forget that he was greedy and vengeful, that he left a man at sea and put him through the gauntlet of his monstrous children just because he blinded one of them. Hades was not the only one that made enemies - Poseidon did not have many friends in Olympus.
The blood of her father has been running hotly through her veins since Trinity and the trial. She tried to help them - both Alex and the Ares child, only to be met with a lot of flak. Trinity nearly beat her to death. She was aware that she had no tact in distributing her helpfulness, and that there could have been another way to do it - yet it did not erase the fact that everyone's emotional lip was unwarranted and misdirected. One demigod tried to kill her, and for that...
... Well, she could watch this whole camp burn to the ground and help no one. That was the insidious nature of her father snaking through her; a vengeful disease that corroded whatever hope she had for anything and anyone while she was here. It instantly burned all the bridges of any friends she made.
That meant that her sole purpose for being here now was to train - to grow, and she'd not be able to do that while neck deep in everyone's shit. So, she turns her gaze to Penelope and gets straight to business. "I'm only going to say this one time, dear. You will be better off staying out of their drama. These girls here, they don't want help. They want everyone to feel just as sorry for them as they do for themselves. They want all the boys here to revolve around them and their fragile little egos, and these silly boys are more than happy to oblige."
She leaned closer to the new girl, staring her straight in the eyes with the pointed look of a woman that had lost all care and concern. She glimmered with genuine hatred, a lack of empathy - like all of the emotion she could have had suddenly drained from them. "I say, let them consume each other's time with all their bullshit. Me, I have training to do - things that are more important than your quest for gossip. Because while all of you are busy playing high school, I will be busy exploring all the ways that my powers could make people pay for their slights." Sylas might have come in at the tail-end of their conversation, and the second that he aimed to sit down, she stood up.
"Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt. I was just wondering if this seat was taken. I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Sylas." She looked up at him and cocked her head to the side. A hand gestures to the general emptiness of the table she sat at, and she replied with a snappy, "Oh, sure - I must be saving a whole table for my horde of friends. I am Liv, Miss Popularity, after all." The sarcasm dripped from her lips, and her eyes rolls. If he was expecting sympathy from her, well - he was better off asking Mason.
"If you don't mind, I have things to do, clothing to choose - and all that other fun stuff." That said, she turned sharply and made for the exit. Once she was outside, her gaze landed on Trinity and Mason, but the exchange of looks would be fleeting at best, for she was soon on her way to some destination. Likely the beach, which is probably the only place that she could just... be left alone. No one ever went to the beach, and it was best to get there before the drama-mongers made the space unbearable.
She, for one, is glad that Keith managed to interject himself into the conversation. It wasn't that she just wanted to talk to Heath, but that she just happened to be looking at him, too.
"I'm a big fan of movies, but it's something we can do at any time really with a group of friends if we wish. Campfires are harder to get together so.." he shrugged, "I'm also voting for the fire, drinks, etcetera etcetera," he replied with a shrug. Cherise took a moment to look over at him, her smile warm and bright - as it is seemingly always. A couple of her fingers seize the ones of his that were tracing invisible lines along the bench, and it was a momentary touch.
"You know, I brought with me an old, old movie." She laughed at the thought of how nerdy she must be to have actually thought about towing this particular cinematic novelty with her when there are literally hundreds of other movies that were more entertaining. Now her attention was on Hecate's son, and the way she chuckles so softly might imply that she was feeling rather bashful about admitted that she had certain cinematic pleasures that were not normal in this generation. "I actually brought along a VHS without thinking that no one makes those anymore. One of my favorite movies is the 1922 Dracula movie Nosferatu." And because Keith seemed that that kind of guy that likely has an arsenal of movie knowledge in his head, she goes ahead and nods her head before he could say what she thinks he is... well thinking, "Yes, the silent movie. I know, I know - I am such a dork. But I do love to play around and do little voice-overs."
Now that they got her dirty secret out of the way, back to the real world. Her fingers had long since left his after she offered up a light squeeze, and she sighed. It was a content sigh.
"Was there an announcement this morning about a party? I accidentally slept in this morning, so I don't remember hearing one," Heath broke the silence, and she laughs a bit, "I am just a very early riser, but sleep is important."
Then, just as she thought she might steal Keith away for something silly, like a walk or whatever, he went ahead and created a more valid excuse. When he cleared his throat, as though requiring some sort of attention, she averted her gaze to him and tilted her head expectantly.
"Hey, could I ask a favor? Could you heal me?" And that was the second that she became perplexed because he did not give her context before that. Her brows furrowed a bit, and she waited for more information before proceeding with her own words. That was granted when he rolled up his shirt, and his bandaged stomach comes into view. "This is, uh, my own fault. I played with conjurations, and that never goes well. That's like advanced witchery."
Cherise sighed again, but this one was different. It accompanied the look she gave him - the one that said, I know that probably didn't happen this morning, and you had me last night... so... why, you dummy?. She didn't say anything for a short while; instead her fingers grab hold of his shirt to roll it back down gently. There was no reason why the wound should be displayed to the whole of Camp Athens.
Luckily, Heath was able to break the silence that had settled once again. Inside of her head, Cherise was choking Keith to death. However, her facial features were gentle, and a slight smile found her lips - a very thin one. "Wow, it's a miracle you survived. Oh what's your name again? I am Heath by the way. I am new to this camp."
She rose from the bench, her expression was kind yet also sorry when she peeled her attention away from Keith to Heath. "A pleasure to meet you, Heath. Maybe we can catch up at the party?" Then she turned back to Keith, "Well, it looks like you are going to conjure up a VHS player for me. Then later, you owe me coffee plus a date. Preferably a movie in which you get to play the voice actor of Count Orlok. Comically, because I think you'd be good at that, and I live to be entertained."
With that settled (if he considered that he probably didn't have much choice), Cherise was on the move toward her cabin already.
"I'm scared of him," she began, and he could already feel his jaw tense. There were so many familiar emotions rushing through him. He kept his gaze elsewhere for the time being and allowed her to continue, "Sylas... threatened to kill me if I ever spoke ill against him. He keeps his word." And that was all that needed to be said. There was nothing that he could offer her that he hadn't already. Liam could say so many things about it, but he didn't want to pour salt in her wound. The only thing he could do for her now was to make sure that she had nothing more to fear. Maybe it sounded as silly to others as it does in his own mind, but she had him. No one messed with him. It was true that he would not always be able to have eyes on her, but someone will now that she is no longer forced to be alone with that monster. He hoped that maybe this small sense of freedom would build up to something bigger. Maybe even confidence in her own self. Maybe the willpower to fight back in some way.
"So... Why did you get involved? You could have ignored it. Would have been safer for you," she posed the question as she went through the drawer that he surprisingly left untouched. He didn't answer her. Not yet. He wasn't sure what to tell her other than... he just knew that he could. How does he put that into words without sounding like an arrogant ass? Furthermore, why was he so concerned about not coming off like the arrogant ass he knows he is?
The duo stepped out of the cabin, and Sloane takes a good look at the walls that had once held her hostage with her brother each night. He couldn't imagine what it must have been like, and what it felt like to take that deep sigh one often took when there was a light on the horizon, and maybe the sun was finally rising.
Rocco would be fine with just the leash for now, as there was no one else really around to disturb them. Most of the demigods have made their way to the cafeteria, and it was still early. Yesterday had been long for everyone, so it was expected that there would be a lot of late risers. The pup happily paraded his new toy around like he just conquered something; shaking it, throwing it up in the air only to chase after it, pawing it - all those cloyingly sweet things dogs do.
Just as Sloane thought her last inquiry would go unanswered forever, Liam stepped up to her. His hard, lumbering physique came in intimate proximity to her petite soft one. His chest pressed against hers, and he brought a warm palm to the mid of her back. He was significantly taller, which put her face somewhere at his shoulder. If she looked up at him at this very second, she would catch a glimpse of the underside of his chin. His head dipped forward, mouth narrowingly missing her ear. Right when she thought that maybe, just maybe he was going to pull off something sly...
... he reaches for the strap of her duffle bag and pulls it over her head and off of her shoulder. He wasn't going to make her carry it, but he will be damned if he will be caught dead pulling a rolling suitcase like someone that had inferior strength. That would look silly.
He did stay there for a moment or two, in that closeness. However, his hand had removed itself from her back since she had made it a point to remind him that she's not that type of girl, and he didn't want to invite the suspicion that he could touch her as he pleases. He looked down at her and shrugged, "Because you needed me, and I was there. You can't honestly tell me that you were standing there, taking his wrath, and not hoping that I would still be there to see it. I was, and I did something because you needed help. You were scared, and I could see it. You shouldn't have to be scared of anyone. If you leave it at that, Sloane, then it's simple. I did what any man should do."
Then it was time to begin walking back to his cabin, and it was his turn to question her once more. "Do you regret me stepping in?" He had wondered if things would be made worse by his interference, but never thought to ask her how she felt about the whole thing. Maybe he had only thought of himself, in some way, that he was making up for his own errs against his mother by rescuing this one woman. Maybe it was true, but that didn't discount the woman that would be staying with him now. If she had fears or regrets, then he wanted to know them. It was one thing to keep her safe from physical harm, but it was another to protect her from everything else - herself or whatever power her brother could hold over her.
Pete had noticed her using the notebook before so he wasn’t shocked when she pulled it out and started scrawling. When she turned it to show him the note she’d written, he took the notebook without asking, leaning back in his seat to peruse her scrawl. My name is Iliana. What is yours? He didn’t spare her a glance up as he mumbled, “Pete” in response and continued reading. And I don't know the exact reason why I can't talk because my memory is all foggy and fractured. All I can tell you is that I was hurt . . . by humans last year and it left me traumatized.
Pete’s response was a low whistle as he tossed the notebook back onto the table for her to snatch back, that seemed a sordid tale indeed. He didn’t have time for any other follow up questions though as the bodyguards/brothers/boyfriends? swooped into the main hall. They sat and ate like men on a mission as Iliana spoke to them through her notebook. Pete for his part slouched back sipping his coffee. He’d make an escape but there was hardly any better choices in the hall.
Eventually they rose to leave, but not before Heath leaned over towards him actually acknowledging Pete’s presence at the table. “And you, next time you tell my sister to run, I suggest you warn us next time. Excuse us now."
“You’re excused,” Pete mumbled to himself as the blonde and redhead left. Noting to himself that he definitely hadn’t promised any sort of warning system. With that he put down his coffee and looked back at Iliana with a raised eyebrow. “You’ve got those two wrapped around your finger, my sister would be impressed. And jealous.” Speaking of the devil herself, Pete’s attention was snapped away by a commotion on the other side of the room. Eve, naturally, at the centre of it. It wasn’t until he saw the flash of a blade though that his whole body became alert, ready to jump to his sister’s rescue the moment things went too far. He wasn’t a fool, he knew whatever was going down, Eve had instigated, but his body was running on the instinct to protect its other half.
Luckily it never got that far, and Eve pranced out of the room like nothing has happened. Of course, he could see she was a little rattled but no one else would. It wasn’t until a notebook was basically prodded at him that his focussed snapped back to Iliana in front of him. Are you okay?.
“What?” He had to the read the note twice more before he realised what she was getting at. He was half out of his seat, he relaxed back into his seat and uncurled his right fist to see that he’d scraped a nail into his palm and drawn blood. Black poisonous blood. Ready for a fight. He looked at it for a minute before wiping his palm clean on his thigh. He scowled darkly at Iliana across the table. “No, not really.”
He’d answered honestly. He wasn’t okay, he was feeling murderous, at his sister for being an idiot, and at himself for jumping up to get himself killed alongside her. “I’m getting the fuck out of here.” He mumbled to Iliana, his version of a politely excusing himself. As he snatched up his coffee and book, prowling out of the main hall.
Heading nowhere in particular, the moment he was far enough away from the crowd he pulled out a cigarette and lighter. Now was the time for a smoke if ever there was one, it was only their second day here and Eve was getting threatened by a knife. Apparently he couldn’t take her anywhere. Taking a long drag he looked out towards the shoreline, “I’m going to fucking kill her.” His threat to no one was sinister and dark even if he had no intention of carrying it out.
His only intention in leaving main hall had been to get away from people, but apparently he’d failed at that as he looked up and saw a brunette only a few feet behind him. Liv something he recalled from the trial. No doubt she’d heard him cursing out Eve and was about to run off and cry murder. “I didn’t-“ He sighed and ran a hand through his already messy hair trying to figure out how to explain it without actually having to say anything. “Sister.” He figured that was the simplest way of explaining it, after all anyone with a sister had threatened to kill them at one time or another.
It was pretty evident that Nelly put her foot in her mouth again after a few reactions from Liv and even Andy. She saw Hecate's daughter look at her and instantly felt regret. Nelly knew one of her biggest flaws was to say what she was thinking and that often rubbed people the wrong way. She wasn't going to apologize for it, but she would apologize if it hurt someone. Seeing the couple leave, she made a mental note to apologize later. It wasn't long before Liv spoke to her though.
"I'm only going to say this one time, dear. You will be better off staying out of their drama. These girls here, they don't want help. They want everyone to feel just as sorry for them as they do for themselves. They want all the boys here to revolve around them and their fragile little egos, and these silly boys are more than happy to oblige."
~A little late for that, staying out of trouble at least.~ Nelly thought.
Also, Liv seemed to be jumping to quick conclusions here. She sounded so sure here. Also she wasn't making much sense either. What do these girls not want help with? Nelly couldn't help but look a little perplexed at Liv's statement there.
"I say, let them consume each other's time with all their bullshit. Me, I have training to do - things that are more important than your quest for gossip. Because while all of you are busy playing high school, I will be busy exploring all the ways that my powers could make people pay for their slights."
Ooh, that really burned, but Nelly wouldn't let it get to her. Liv was definitely someone to be aware of. Her being a child of Poseidon meant she was more powerful then her. She would make sure to stay on her good side. And being a gossip wasn't something Nelly tried to be, it just happened at times. Her father was definitely a talker himself. Her thoughts became jarred when someone showed up.
"Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt. I was just wondering if this seat was taken. I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Sylas."
Liv was quick to introduce herself before leaving. Nelly kept her eyes on the new guy though. Even though she had her normal 'nice smile' in place, if there was one person she'd been told to be wary of, it was this guy. Her father told her Sylas was a Child of Eris when she inquired about him. Hermes knew how bad Eris could be. This was the person who was ultimately the reason for the Great Trojan war so Hermes never pulled pranks on her like he had with others, even Hades. Nelly then noticed that Sylas was bruised in some areas.
"Hi there Sylas, my name is Penelope, but most call my Nelly. And as you can see it's just me here now and I wasn't waiting for anyone. I actually got in last night from another trip. Now I hope I am not being a bother here, but are you okay?" she asked, pointing to his bruises.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pete's answer to her question scared Iliana. Yes he was definitely not fine. He was furious, but unlike Andy's temper, his was more like a volcano about to erupt rather then a storm, and those kinds of tempers could be more dangerous. He suddenly left and Iliana thought about him for a bit. She could tell he wanted to ask her more about her ordeal and in all honesty, she wasn't ready to talk about it. His statement about Ethan and Heath though had caught her off guard. It also made her think. It never occurred to her, but Pete was right, those two did do everything she asked them to. She had gotten use to Heath's attentions even growing up for he always wanted to protect her. He always been that way, especially after what happened to her recently. And Ethan had taken a break from college just to help her. Was she being selfish? Had she come to rely so heavily on Ethan and Heath so much that they didn't have their own lives to live anymore?

"Now that's a serious face. Care to share Lia?"

Ethan's sudden appearance caused Iliana to gasp in surprised.

"Oops, sorry Lia. I should have realized you were deep in thought."

Ethan saw Pete leave and figured he would check on Iliana. Iliana soon calmed down before answering his question. Ethan saw Iliana's serious face again as she handed him her notebook.

~Do I take up too much of your free time?~

"Where did this come Lia? Ethan asked, confused.

~Pete, the guy that was here. He mentioned something and it made me wonder if I demand too much of your and Heath's time. You two are always with me and rarely do anything for yourselves. Ethan I know you took a hiatus from college to help me. I don't want you and Heath to be around me so much if it means it's taking away from you enjoying your lives. I am sorry for being selfish.~

This gave Ethan pause. True, much of his currently life did revolve around helping Iliana, but he had made that choice. He knew how dangerous humans were and it was his choice to help Heath and Iliana. Heath had even told him how grateful he was to Ethan once and it made him feel wonderful to feel useful. Heath wasn't one to dish out compliments, so when he did give one, he always meant it.

"Listen to me Lia. You've been through hell and back in your life and I wanted to help. I think you're one of the strongest people I know and you've made great strides from the tragedies you've been through. You're also one of the most selfless people I know too and I've known a lot of people because you always are trying to help others. You're not forcing me to do something I don't want to do. I want to help. I know there will be plenty of times at this camp when I'll get to do my own thing. For now I am just content to hang out with you two since I am more comfortable with ya'll. Believe me though, I do want to meet everyone in this camp, even the more complicated ones."

Iliana listened and nodded. It was a lot to think of. One thing she knew she was going to do though, try to spend more time away from Heath and Ethan. She didn't have to meet everyone in this camp, or least get to know them, but there was no hurry either. That's when she remembered this morning's announcement.

~We're suppose to vote for a movie night or a campfire party night by the way. I don't care either way honestly, but I think I would prefer the campfire since there be more space so I can be alone if I want to, or leave early. I am going to go walk by myself for now. Can you tell Heath I will see you two later?~

Ethan nodded before Iliana got up, took her dirty dishes away and left. He soon left himself.

After Iliana walked out of the Main hall, she spotted Mason and another blonde. Her name was Trinity right? She remembered her from the trial. She didn't see anyone else though and not knowing what to do, just walked wherever her feet guided her. She ended up coming upon some cabins and saw the state of one of them. It had seen better days. Horrified, Iliana ended up approaching it before seeing two people exit it, one being a huge guy who look capable of damaging the cabin and the other was a dark haired woman. She had yet to meet these campers. They also appeared to be talking with each other. Not wanting to interrupt them, she started heading in another direction. Still the state of that cabin haunted her thoughts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heath saw he was being a third wheel when he saw Cherise look at the other young man.
"Thanks for the information Cherise and yes, I'll see you two later.
He started heading back to the main hall when he saw Ethan coming towards him. Where was Iliana? He didn't have to wait long because Ethan took initiative.
"Iliana wanted to walk alone and wanted me to tell you that. Oh and a lot just happened after you left." he said before telling Heath everything that happened between Ajax, Alex, and Eve. He then talked about his talk with Iliana. Heath sighed.
"I'll be honest Ethan. I am always terrified that something will happen to Iliana when I am not with her. But my practical helps keep me sane because I know Demeter is even more protective of her daughter. So much so she told me she'll always have something watching her, even at this camp."
"Like what exactly?"
"Like tree nymphs or her own personal servants. Being the Greek equivalent of Mother Nature, Demeter does have a LOT of connections. Only Poseidon would have more since water covers more of the Earth then land."
"So what do you want to do now? Oh, there's an vote we have to do. We need to decide if we want a movie night or campfire party."
"Really? I'd rather stay in my room and read or work on my latest book. But then again the party idea might be best because then I can keep an eye on other campers. I still don't trust Mason when it comes to Alex. And we still need to find out what happened to Sylas."
"How about this then? I've been wanting to find time to work on some architecture ideas so why don't we head back to our cabin so you can work on your book and I can do that. Well we can do that after voting. Then this evening we can do the party. I was going to vote for partying anyway because I've been wanting to meet the rest of the campers anyway."
"Good idea. Oh, thanks for everything Ethan. You've been a great help, and I know you didn't have to be."
"Anytime man! I am just happy that Iliana is trying to do more things on her own."
This caused Heath to smile and the two headed off to make that vote.
"I'm... out of practice.."
Wes chuckled slightly. "Well, it's not hard. Most guys are just dumb." He scratched his head trying to think of the flirty things he liked. But then again, he was in love with a girl who'd rather threaten his life rather than bat her eye lashes at him. "Laugh at his jokes, find a reason to touch his arm... Just give him a reason to not look at anyone else. That can't be too hard." To be honest, Wes didn't know. He didn't have to try until he met Trinity, and everything with her was backwards. So his knowledge was useless at this point.
"I honestly didn't think I mentioned Pete that much."
"You didn't," Wes said. "But you did mention him, that's the difference. The only male names I ever hear you mention are mine, Duke's, your brother's and Mason's. It's not too hard to connect the dots at least a little." It wasn't his place to judge. Alex was free to like whomever she wanted. As long as they made her happy. Or whatever else she wanted.
"I don't know what he thinks, or feels, but... to be fair... I'm not exactly sure how I feel either at the moment." His brows raised slightly as he nodded his head in understanding. "Lets... let's forget about relationships for now, yeah? We got a party to get ready for."
Wes nodded his head and held up his hands in surrender. "Yes ma'am."
"Maybe you can go grab your stuff and get ready here? that way we can arrive there together. If you want?" He slowly stood up from the bed as she chose an outfit and started towards the bathroom. "Won't be long."
He gave a wave of his hand before heading out of her room and exited the Valis cabin. Wes didn't hurry to his cabin, knowing full well how long it took girls to get ready. He'd be lucky if Alex was even a tenth of the way done by the time he returned. Part of him hoped he'd run into Trinity on his way, but it didn't seem like luck was on his side. He made his way inside and decided to give Alex a little thrill and let her pick his outfit as well. Who knows, maybe she'd pick something that would make Trin look twice at him. He grabbed a couple pieces and tossed them into a bag, along with some shoes and his cologne before heading out again.
When Wes returned to Alex's cabin, she was still in her bathroom doing lord knows what women do when they get ready. He took his time laying out what he brought it what he thought were decent outfits, although it wouldn't surprise him if Alex mixed up everything he thought worked. Wes didn't have much in the realm of options but still, a woman's advice might be helpful. He laid down perpendicular on the bed on top of the pillows with his feet sticking out off the side. He let himself doze off as he waited on her to finish getting ready.
Whenever Alex emerged, he finally stirred and groaned where he laid. He squinted as he opened an eye to look over at her. He gave Alex a thumbs up and a smile. "Good choice." He then motioned his mechanical hand at the presented clothing. "Your turn to choose."
Once Alex decided upon his clothes for the day, Wes scooped up the outfit and disappeared into the bathroom. Luckily, it didn't take him nearly as long to get ready as she did. He already shaved in the morning, and his hair was too short to do much of anything with it. So he ran his hands through it with a little bit of water, before he came back out. Wes's hands slid into the front pockets of his jeans as he approached her with a shrug. "So?" He spun around playfully. "It's weird, having two arms again." He laughed. "I just managed to figure out tying my shoes one handed... kind of."
He moved over to the door, nodding toward the exit. "Are you ready to go?" Wes opened the door for her, giving Alex a smile before motioning in the general direction of the party.
"It's definitely harder for us at this camp, and.. I can't force you to stay with me if that's not what you want. I think..." Andy looked up at him as he paused mid sentence. She watched him shove his hands into his pockets. He couldn't look at her. Her chin quivered. She closed her eyes taking a deep breath, preparing for whatever he was going to say.
"Andy... maybe we should have a break? That way, you can then decide on what you want, and who makes you happier. I'm not going to compare myself from Mason to make myself look like the better choice. You need to decide that on your own, baby."
Andy took a step back, shaking her head slightly as she tried to fight the tears. He wasn't wrong. She felt it coming, but it didn't hurt any less. She raised her hand to cover her mouth as she looked up at him, while her leg bounced anxiously. And somehow, no matter it all, Ajax smiled. But she couldn't match it.
"Come here," Ajax said as she motioned for her to come closer. But Andy couldn't make her feet move, she was cemented where she stood. But he didn't wait and closed the distance to her. He wrapped his arounds around her and kissed her forehead. Once in his arms, Andy let out a shaky breath. A soft whimper escaped her lips as her arms wrapped around him, her hands grasping at his shirt. "I just want to say... thank you for putting up with me for this long at least."
She let out a weak laugh that was muffed as she buried her face into the crook of his neck. Andy managed to hold him tighter. Why did this feel like the end? It terrified her and she couldn't help but feel like it was all her fault. "I do love you, Ajax," she whispered into his shoulder. She had to say it. No matter what happened, he had to know.
"Everything will be okay. I promise." How could he be so calm? Andy felt like everything she knew was crumbling around her, yet he could be so strong. He was doing this for her, yet she knew it was killing him and it killed her too. But how could she ever be the person he wanted or needed? Not when she was a mess like she was. Part of her wanted him to wait for her, that it was a phase she'd get past. But that was selfish. He just needed to be happy... Even if that meant moving on without her.
But for as long as Ajax would let her, she'd stay there in his arms.
Andy lost track of how long her and Ajax just stood there in silence. It took all the strength left in her to finally walk away. The rest of the day felt like a haze, where she couldn't remember half of the things she did. She went through the actions with an empty gaze and her mind was somewhere else. She somehow found her way to her cabin. Part of her wanted to be with someone... But who would she go to? Mason was half of the reason she was in this predicament and they weren't talking. Trinity? Andy vaguely remembers walking past her as she exited the hall. She was with Mason and they weren't stupid. It was only a matter of time before Trinity found her and asked what happened, or Mason came to gloat.
She wished Daniel was there. But he wasn't. So, she opted for solitude. Andy let herself sink into a hot bath, putting in earbuds so she couldn't be bothered. It seemed as though every song, one after the other only made it worse until eventually she threw her phone across the room. She groaned at the sound of her screen cracking before slipping beneath the steaming water. When Andy came back up for air, she brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her shins. Silent tears rolled down her cheeks as she sat there until the water long turned cold.
Pruney was an understatement when it came to her fingers and toes by the time Andy got out of the bath. She wrapped herself in a towel and managed to make it out to her bedroom where she then sat down on her bed. Why did it always seem to be the camp's answer for everything to throw a party. Just the thought of alcohol made her nauseous. Maybe she could stay inside and not go? Who would expect her there now? Not Ajax. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself," she scolded herself.
Andy managed to get herself ready, but it took nearly an hour just to get up and put the few pieces of clothing on. It took even more coaxing to manage making her hair look nice. Then it took three tries to put make up on, the first two times she started crying at the thought of seeing Ajax there but not being with him. She actually had to yell at her own reflection to get the hell over it and not mess it up a third time. She was determined to not look like she just went through a temporary split up with her boyfriend, even if it killed her on the inside.
Once she was presentable and ready, Andy walked out of her cabin. She slowly stepped out onto her porch and closed the door behind her. Then froze. She stood there with her back to the world, facing the door with the handle in her hand. Let go and go to the party. Just let go.
Sloane walked along the dirt path, slowly trailing behind Liam. He hadn't answered her question, which made her wonder if he was searching for a reason as to why. Or maybe because it was a simple reason, that she already shut down. She tried not to overthink it, instead of looking toward the puppy as he trotted along with his new prize. Occasionally, the leash caught on a twig or rock, stopping Rocco's moment. Sloane smiled a little, using her toe to untangle it each time and would toss the teddy ahead for him.
After one throw, Liam turned and moved toward her. Her eyes widened when he stopped well within what was considered personal space. His chest was pressed to hers, with her gaze hidden someone in his upper torso. She felt his hand move to the middle of her back, causing her to inhale sharply as she tensed under his warm touch. Sloane tried to spare a subtle glance up at him only to be met by the underside of his jaw, instead focusing her gaze on the fabric of his shirt.
Liam's head began to lower, which caused Sloane's heart to about break through her ribcage. No doubt he could feel it against his chest. She tried to keep herself calm, but she had no idea what he was doing. His breath was hot on the side of her neck and she could have swore his lips nearly grazed her ear. Then his hand took hold of the strap to her duffle bag and pulled it over her head. Sloane finally let out a deep breath. She hadn't noticed she was holding it in until that moment. "Thanks," she said quietly as she still tried to steady her breathing. No doubt her cheeks were flushed and she did her best to avoid eye contact. The spot on his shirt was doing well at holding her attention.
But when Sloane thought the interaction was done, Liam remained... close. He didn't withdraw or take a step back. His chest was still against hers. She could feel it caving and rising with each breath as he began to speak. If someone stumbled upon them it might have looked odd, the way this giant was so close to her and had to look down at her like he was staring at his shoes. All the while Sloane's hand craned backwards so that she might catch a glimpse of his face. Why was he so close?
"Because you needed me, and I was there. You can't honestly tell me that you were standing there, taking his wrath, and not hoping that I would still be there to see it. I was, and I did something because you needed help. You were scared, and I could see it. You shouldn't have to be scared of anyone. If you leave it at that, Sloane, then it's simple. I did what any man should do."
Liam finally broke the close contact and headed for his cabin. Sloane stood there in stunned silence, watching him walk away for a good couple of seconds before she let herself relax and followed after him. "Do you regret me stepping in?"
"No," she replied simply. Her thumbs tapped against the handle of her suitcase as she walked. Sloane chewed on her bottom lip slightly trying to think of more of an explanation or an answer than a single word. "You woke the bear," she added with a slight smile. But it wasn't happy, more sympathetic, maybe even worried. "I think... I accepted his wrath because I thought, if I carried the weight of it, then everyone else would be safe from him."
"I don’t give a fuck about what I woke, Sloane. He isn’t a bear - he’s a snake. If I were you, I’d be more worried that he woke a bear." He turned and gestured to his chest with two thumbs, comically and with a grin. Sloane chuckled slightly while shaking her head. "That would be me. I’m the bear, and if he isn't careful, I will crush his little head under my big foot." He mumbled something under his breath that was likely an expletive directed at Sylas - some derogatory name or some such. He turned back around and continued walking.
They finally reached his cabin and Sloane's pace slowed. She pushed down the handle of her suitcase, then grabbed the one on the side so she could lift it up the stairs. She made it to the porch and set down her bag. After a moment, Sloane looked back at him. "He'll be coming after us both now. I'm not sure how long we'll be able to keep each other safe." She raised her hand to rub the back of her neck. "Just don't do something stupid to protect me, ok?... Promise?"
He waited for her to go inside, and when she made her request as he turned to close the door, he sighed. "Doing stupid things for pretty girls is in my nature. I can’t promise you that.' At least he was honest and not making promises that he can’t keep.
Sloane sighed softly and nodded her head slightly. She hated that she was his burden now, regardless if he saw it that way or not. But no matter what she said it wouldn't keep him from doing what he set his mind to. She set her stuff down beside the couch, then made her way over to Liam to take her duffel back from him. She shifted to her tip toes to grab the strap and slip the bag from his shoulder. Liam helped her with it, of course. "I'll stay on the couch. I can't impose in your home and take your bed... Plus I'm short," she added with a slight smile.
He didn’t know what it was about what she proposed that made him feel uneasy. Was it that she would sleep on the couch, and he, a man, would be on a bed? Or was it that she would be closer to the door, and he hoped he’d be a buffer in case Sylas came storming in? Maybe it was both, but he looked at her and realized that she was probably going to insist and be stubborn. Why are women so stubborn? He grumbled his discontent, again, under his breath and flailed his arms in retreat of offering any form of protest. The woman is always right, and life was easier for a man that way.
"Okay, okay. But just so you know - I am keeping my door open. Rocco is just a pup, so don’t expect him to notice when something’s going on that isn’t normal. By the end of the day, if you really feel like you want the couch - then okay. But I’m going to insist again - just one more time, before bed," he forewarned her. Sure, he was an ass most of the time, but he wasn’t in the business of telling lies. She’d know the truth always, however irritating or unwanted they are.
***
Sloane didn't dare unpack any of her things. She still felt like she was a burden and imposing. She figured it was only a matter of time before he got tired of her and kicked her out, then she'd have to find her own way. So, instead she kept her bags neat in a corner, out of the way. She spent the rest of the day playing with Rocco and trying to be out of the way as much as possible. At some point or another she dozed off, curled up in the corner of the couch.
Liam had taken to getting some strength training in with the adjustable dumbbell set he brought with him. While he tried to get through his workout, he realized that he was running on nothing. The pair forgot to go get breakfast, so he’d have to scrounge through the scant food collection he had. Which, if he were honest with himself, was tasteless and solely for maintaining his figure. He didn’t think Sloane would take to it. He’d have to steal things that she might eat from the cafeteria later.
He couldn’t keep going running on empty, so he just fell onto his bed and fell asleep. The cabin was quiet for most of the day, and Rocco was happy to cuddle up with Sloane. He woke up long before the announcement, however, to make some food.
She had no idea how long she managed to stay asleep. She might have remained there until the next morning if it weren't for some obnoxious announcement confirming a beach bonfire party that would start in an hour at sunset. Sloane rubbed her eyes with the sleeve of her cardigan, groaning softly as she stretched. She smiled as she woke to Rocco curled up in her lap in the little pocket her body made between her chest and thighs. She sniffed, catching scent of cooking food and stretched her neck to look over the back of the couch toward the smell.
Liam was in the kitchen wearing his best “Kiss the Chef” apron and in his lipstick print boxers. He’s a guy - what should she expect? He couldn’t change his life completely. He wasn’t going to ease her into an adjustment period. She’d know how he liked to roam, and was lucky that he thought to put on boxers at all. He was bopping around, cooking some oats on the stove and stirring in some brown sugar for taste. Not for him - he could eat them barely boiled and plain, but for the sake of not murdering Sloane’s taste buds while she stayed with him. There was fruit and bread, yogurt and some other things that it looked like he must have retrieved from the cafeteria sometime while she was sleeping. Thankfully, he took really good care of his body, which made him a great cook. She’d not be displeased with his food, and if she was, then he’d have to rethink his future in the restaurant business.
"Are you going to go?" She slowly sat up, crossed her arms against the back of the couch. Her chin rested on her hands as she made another comment. "I don't think I'll go, if you don't."
He turned to look over his shoulder. He was going to answer, but then she does that thing where she cuts him off before he can reply. Again. He stared at her expectantly, wondering when Sloane would allow him to speak before she goes on the defense.
Sloane stood up awkwardly, quickly trying to back track what she said. "I just mean I wouldn't feel safe. I don't expect you to be like next to me the whole time or anything." Her face scrunched up slightly as she turned her back to him and made her way to her things in the corner.
As she knelt down and began to sift through her bags, looking for something to wear that would still hide her bruises, Liam quickly interjects before she scampered off, "Yeah, I think we should go. It sounds like fun, and you need to start living your life. If you don’t like the crowd, we can steal a couple of beers and take a walk on the beach. If you’re into that sort of thing. Whatever you want, we can do it. I am not looking to get laid tonight anyway. I don’t think the girls here are going to be into an Ares child. You lot are too smart for that."
Sloane grabbed the first thing she found that would do the job. She looked back toward Liam briefly, nodding her head as she brushed her hair behind her ears in acknowledgement. Whatever she wanted? No one ever cared what she wanted. Sloane tried not to let her overthinking appear on her face as she made her way to the bathroom before she could stumble over her tongue more.
He watched her walk away because it was a good sight. Even better when she’s flustered. Can one blame him? He has been good about not doing it for a while. He smirked to himself and kept on cooking so that she had something to eat when she came out. A small gal like her needed food or she was going to take a sip of beer and fall over herself.
She didn't spend too terribly long getting ready. After all, who was she trying to impress? If anything, Sloane hoped she could go back to being fairly invisible and get through the night without issue. She did take a little bit of time doing her make up, doing her best to mask her split lip with red lipstick. But she didn't bother trying to do her hair, instead leaving it down and wavy like it had been for the remainder of the day.
Once she was finished, she emerged from the bathroom with her dirty clothes in her arms, held to her chest. Sloane lingered in the doorway to the living room, leaning against the door frame. "Do you think you could teach me self defense? I don't think I'll ever be a fighter..." She glanced down at her bare feet, before she pushed off the wall and headed over to her things. "But, it could be useful." Sloane folded the dirty clothes and placed them aside in their own neat pile so that she could clean them later.
Liam sat on one of two barstools at the counter to eat, and gestured over the pot of oats and various fruits he had spread out. She’d have to go into the fridge for milk or orange juice, or whatever she drank. He wasn’t sure so he had grabbed a bunch of crap. He was drinking water. He didn’t answer her right away, partly because he was chewing but mostly because he wanted to take a second to drink her figure in. Gods, she was beautiful, but he couldn’t bring himself to admit it out loud. He looked back down at his bowl to shovel a few more bites into his mouth before he’d reply. "I thought about that already, and I was going to ask a bit later. A woman should be able to defend herself, and I will be glad to help train you as much as I can. Maybe I can have Trinity help you out, too. I’m not in the woman hitting business." Not that training against any Ares child was fair at all. He’d have to scope out the other demigods and see who he could recruit to help out.
He was finished eating, so he stood up and pulled off his apron to hang it up someplace. "Eat good because I don’t want to have to carry you back to the cabin after one beer." With that, he left to get into the shower. He threw on a casual outfit - a pair of loose sweats and a black t-shirt. It was hard for him to fit into suits and long sleeves unless he was made of money, which he was not.
Sloane made her way to the kitchen and made a plate of whatever Liam made. At this point she didn't care what it was. They had completely neglected to eat all day and the smell made her famished. She got herself a glass of water and yogurt, placing what she gathered on the counter before one of the stools. With the help of the little step on the stool she took a seat and wasted no time before digging in. Mid-bite, she shifted in her seat glance over her shoulder toward Liam when he exited his room. He wasn't particularly dressed for a party but neither was she to be honest. And someone of his stature probably has the worst luck shopping. Before he noticed, Sloane turned back to her meal, crossing her left leg over her right.
He looked down at Rocco, of whom came running up to him as soon as he stepped out of his room. He bent down and plucked the pup off the floor and rubbed his face against its face, and it probably looked ridiculous. Ridiculously cute. "You gotta stay here, buddy. I’ll put the TV on for you." He totally did - YouTube videos of barking dogs. That would keep Rocco entertained for hours. After checking its food and water, he was ready to head out. "Let’s get going, Sloane," he insisted while he walked toward the door.
She nodded her head as she took one last bite. Sloane then slid off the stool. Instead of heading straight to the door, she beelined for Rocco. She leaned down over the back of the couch to rub his ears and accepted a lick or two. She couldn't deny that seeing the way Liam was around the dog was heart warming. Not to mention she was already obsessed with the little guy. It made her envy anyone who got to grow up with a pet. She caught Liam watching her and instantly got awkward as she tended to do. "What? Can't I say bye too?"
Before they were about to exit, Sloane moved in front of Liam to stop him stepped out of the cabin. He peered down at her curiously. Did she change her mind? "Wait," she said as she held up her hands slightly. "I uh... My powers should have worn off by now. Which means you're susceptible to Sylas's... or Eve's influence." She sighed, her brows furrowing slightly as she tried to find the words. "I said I wouldn't use my abilities on you without your permission. And I won't."
This peering became, as it had so many times before, long and quiet. It seemed that something about this woman caused internal conflict that left him not knowing what to say or do. Was she implying that he might be dangerous? Was her brother that powerful? It didn’t matter because he didn’t know anything about any of this. There was no crash course about being a Demigod and all that it entailed. There was just being thrown into it, and just like she had to trust that he’d protect her, he had to trust that she would keep him from being the one that could be used against her in any way. He had to confess internally that even he would be at risk here, and even worse, a risk for others if he was going to be some weapon used in a vengeance scheme.
She glanced down slightly as she extended her right hand toward him, with her palm up. It was a silent offering. There wasn't much she was able to do to keep him safe, nothing remotely close to what he was doing for her. And Sloane knew what she was offering was a big pill to swallow. Liam didn't have to accept her offer. Maybe she was still strong enough to negate her brother's powers if he tried, but she couldn't be sure. But as she looked back up at him, she knew what she was asking. It was more than asking Liam to let her help him, but it was also a question of trust.
He didn’t think that she’d do anything to harm him, even with her unfamiliar power. So, he reached his own hand out and gently, for a big strong man, grasped her small fingers even softer. It was almost like he was hesitant to touch her, but not for the reasons that might go through her head. He could already feel himself taking to her, and that was a very dangerous game to play. He didn’t want to worsen it, but he did at the same time. Oh, the conflict. Given that he hadn’t felt it the last time, much less noticed at all, he braced himself against the simple skin-to-skin contact. Women always had such cool soft hands, and his was a stark contrast; a touch more than warm and roughly calloused. It was oddly pleasing to take the time to actually notice it.
Sloane's gaze fell to their hands as his palm fell into hers. The heat of his skin against hers was almost like sticking her hand in a hot bath, at first alarming then made her skin tingle. She took a slight step toward him and began to raise her other hand, but froze momentarily in a silent question as if to make sure it was ok. He could stop her. Contact through his hand should be enough, but it always seemed the more contact she had along with actually speaking the words out loud made the hold stronger. With his permission, she shifted to her tip toes as her other palm rested on his forehead.
Sloane swallowed as she held his gaze, before finally speaking. "Your mind is your own. No one can influence you. Your thoughts, actions and feelings are yours and yours alone." Each word she said she infused with her abilities. There could be no grey area, or loose ends that someone could manage to snake around. It came out forceful and powerful, such a stark comparison to her usually shy nature. But she made sure each word held, no matter what. Sloane was more powerful than Sylas but only when she put everything into what she did. This had to hold. The thought of what Sylas could do with an untethered Liam would frighten anyone. But the thought of seeing someone who helped her be molded like putty terrified her more.
She held her hands in place for a few moments longer before she let herself breath. Sloane stumbled backwards slightly when she lowered her hand and shifted back to flat feet. She grasped Liam's hand to keep herself steady, while her other hand held her head for a moment. Sloane didn't use her powers often if at all, but when she did everything went into it, which usually left her temporarily weak. "I'm ok," she said softly. "It just takes a lot. Fresh air will help." Her gaze fell to their hands and she quickly released her hold and took a deep breath. "That should keep you safe for the evening. But if someone like Eve or Sylas is around you and you feel like a weird... Tickling or scratchy feeling in the back of your neck, just let me know." Gods she hoped it would be enough. Luckily there was strength in numbers, right?
Liam felt that familiar sensation he did back then - like his mind was trying to tell him something without actually saying it. It was a strange sensation -to have this wall, and intuitive knowledge that stemmed from power. Honestly, it was hard to describe. There were hardly enough words to paint a picture of it. Regardless, he just nodded, stepped to her side and placed his palm at the small of her back - for leading, not to be all up in her personal space (but he did enjoy it). He’d lead them both out, shut the door, and the pair was off to the beach.
They’d arrive there in one piece, too.
It seemed as though the moment Sylas arrived, the one girl he intended to sit next to stood up. "Oh, sure - I must be saving a whole table for my horde of friends. I am Liv, Miss Popularity, after all."
Sylas held up his hands in surrender. "Easy tiger. I was just wanting a place to sit and thought here would be better than sitting alone."
"If you don't mind, I have things to do, clothing to choose - and all that other fun stuff." Liv didn't wait for either them to say anything else before she headed for the door. Sylas took a step back out of the way to allow her to pass. Well she was just a big bag of anger and who knows what else. He made a mental note to tackle a conversation with her again in the future. It was always the emotional or temperamental ones that were the easiest to manipulate. But he couldn't very well tail after her with a bowl of cereal and fake apologies for interrupting.
"Hi there Sylas, my name is Penelope, but most call my Nelly. And as you can see it's just me here now and I wasn't waiting for anyone. I actually got in last night from another trip. Now I hope I am not being a bother here, but are you okay?"
The girl pointed his bruises after he spoke, causing Sylas to quirk a brow. He wasn't expecting her to be so direct. Although maybe he should have when he heard her excitement at the drama unfolding at camp. Maybe she was the type to thrive off of it. He had already committed to this table and he'd only appear rude if he decided to leave at that point. So, Sylas faked a smile and took up Liv's abandoned seat. He proceeded to eat some of his food before finally speaking up. "Oh, I'm peachy."
He grinned, the type of smile and sarcasm someone used when they were hiding something without a doubt. "You've come to camp at an interesting time," he added as he pointed at her with his spoon. "I'd say choose your friends wisely. And it's usually a safe bet to avoid familiarity with Ares kids... I'd hate to see that pretty face of yours at their mercy."
Sylas finished the last little bit of his food and moved to his feet. "Thanks for the company Nelly. You've been a delight. I do hope I'll see you at the party." He grabbed his dishes and flashed his present company a wink before he walked away. He made quick work of putting what remained from his breakfast in a bin or whatever was required. Sylas even risked a glance toward Evelyn with a sly smirk before he disappeared out the exit.
He caught a glimpse of Mason in the company of Trinity outside the hall. Sylas hadn't the faintest idea that they were friends, but they seemed as such at that moment. Some of the friendships at this camp were peculiar to say the least. He also saw blur of blonde hair in the distance which he could only assume was Eve, but he had no intention of approaching her. Part of him wished to know about the conversation taking place between Ajax and Andy, but they were well hidden away from everyone else. There was no chance of him getting anything done when they were so secluded. With a sigh, he decided to head back to his cabin and reserve his energy for the party later that day.
***
He couldn't handle the state the cabin was in any longer. So, for the remaining part of the day Sylas cleaned up the mess the lumbering oaf made of the door and the living area. At one point he considered going into Sloane's room to see if anything needed to be picked up in there... and that's when he noticed it. Her room was picked bare. There was nothing left behind save for a few objects that he had given her at one point or another.
Whatever composure he might have left, vanished. And in the blink of an eye he was unhinged. At some point he blacked out... Sylas was unsure how much time passed. Eventually he came to, sitting in the middle of a destroyed bedroom that used to be Sloane's. For years, their relationship had been what it was. She feared him, resented him... but listened. Obeyed. Then this fucking Liam, big fucking idiot, waddles his way into camp and everything flipped on its head.
Sylas took a deep breath before he got up and exited his room. And rather than deal with his demons or the destruction of what he had come accustomed to as his life, he locked the door to Sloane's room and erased it from his mind. With a sigh, he got himself into the shower, relying on the hot water to help wash away whatever feelings he was having. It didn't take him long to finish getting ready and make his way to the beach. He contemplated diverting to Evelyn's cabin, or maybe even someone else's. But he didn't care about arriving with a date or not, he had enough fun plans to keep the entertainment thriving.
He was one of the first people there, not that he minded. Sylas was always the punctual type. He made his way over to the refreshments and grabbed himself a beer. For what he had in mind, he needed a bottle. So, bottoms up. He was about halfway into his drink when a particular redhead arrived at the party. Sylas couldn't help but smirk as he made his way over to her, tipping his bottle in her direction. "Looking lovely as ever." He leaned down and gave her a flirty kiss upon her cheek. After all, why not.
"I have a favor to ask of you, my dear," he said as he pointed his index finger at her. Sylas raised his beer to his lips and downed the remaining contents. He then held out the newly emptied bottle toward her. "Would you be able to charm this?" He asked as he wiggled the fingers of his free hand near the object. "I was thinking a game would be far more interesting if it landed on the person you really wanted it to... Unless, that's tiptoeing too close to the dark side for you." Sylas raised a brow in a silent challenge.
"I’m going to fucking kill her," someone stated behind her in that flustered kind of way that only extreme annoyance can bring about. The woman stops in her tracks and pivotted sharply to face the aggravated soul because they were emotionally alike right about now. She tilted her head at him as he stumbled through trying to defend his dark choice of words, "I didn't -" Then he moved on from trying to justify himself to admitted defeat. "Sister."
Well, that said everything, didn't it? Siblings get on everyone's nerves, and with a sister like Eve, poor Pete was probably catching some of the heat. She placed her hand upon his shoulder and rolled to the tips of her toes to look over one of his shoulders and into the building. Once the heels of her feet settled back onto the ground, she gave him a somewhat sympathetic smile. "I don't blame you. If it makes you feel better, I am having murderous thoughts of my own. Maybe we can share grievances while you walk me to my cabin?" It didn't really sound like she was asking him, for as soon as the suggestion left her lips and turned around and began to walk.
She tossed a glance over her right shoulder at him for a brief moment, "On a scale of 1 to ten, how badly would you like to murder your sister? Also, would you consider me a partner in crime for future conspiracies against our peers?" This all sounded like a jest because no one would seriously talk murder out loud. Even the daughter of Poseidon knew how to plot in secret, and not to divulge the fact that she did actually want to kill someone now. She knew that these emotions were fleeting, however, so she just lets the seething process commence all while poking fun at her volatile self every so often.
You see, she didn't have many friends. Pete didn't seem like the type of guy that put up with a whole lot of people or vice versa. The loners, AKA, social outcasts - are attracted to each other. They always tended to have the same reclusive interest - books, intelligence, and various levels of emotional disturbances. Whether they liked to admit it or not, they needed someone. Not that two like-minds always make a good pair. Still, with all that may come in the future, it would be good to have a friend or two that isn't crazy about the drama that reeled its ugly heads like some sort of hydra - cut off one drama, another pops up.
Once they make it to her cabin, she strolled up the steps and then hung around the porch for a second. She leaned her body against the closed and locked door, crossed her arms, and looked over at him. "So, bonfire. What time will you come by to pick me up so that we can go together?" It was probably an odd request if one could call it that. It sounded more like a question stealthily disguised as a demand of sorts. Even two loners could go to a bonfire and be okay, so long as they were not somehow caught up in the realm of everyone's attention.
* * *
She had spent most of her day reading and sleeping and sometimes doing less nerdy things. When she finally got around to talking herself into going to the bonfire, she decided on something casual. She really didn't have much in the way of an actual date, and while she was pretty, she didn't feel like it was worth it to look her best. She threw on some natural make-up, tugged on a coat, and felt content to let her hair stay down and be as mismanaged as it wished to be.
She expected Pete to show up, so she removed herself from the comfortable confines of her own living space and put herself into his inevitable path. Just in case he had changed his mind about going with her.
"I don't blame you. If it makes you feel better, I am having murderous thoughts of my own. Maybe we can share grievances while you walk me to my cabin?" She released his shoulder and began the trek back to the cabins.
He watched her walk away as he took one last drag of cigarette, before crushing the butt under his heel and following along behind her. It might have sounded a lot like a question, but he knew a command when he heard one. “Murderous thoughts? The catfight up in Olympus I suppose?” He shoved his hands into his pocket as he kept pace with her. Even a loner like him knew about the fight between Trinity and Liv, no idea what it was about, but he didn’t really care. “No doubt my sister had a hand in that.” He mumbled the words to himself, but apparently Liv had picked up on them anyway.
"On a scale of 1 to ten, how badly would you like to murder your sister? Also, would you consider me a partner in crime for future conspiracies against our peers?" She spoke with a light hearted tone, and caused a slight chuckle to tumble out of Pete. He was a good read of character and could tell there was a ghost of truth behind her words, which ignited his curiosity.
“Ten.” He answered confidently before shaking his head and answering more truthfully. “Or Zero. See, it’s complicated.” He wanted to wring Eve’s neck, but the idea of anyone else doing the same made him see red.
Shaking it off, he looked over at Liv with a smirk, eyeing her up for a moment. “As for partner? Well, taking on an Ares bird is pretty badass.” They arrived at her cabin, and as she rose up the stairs he clucked his tongue. “Not sure you’d be wise to trust me though.” With a smirk he headed off to his own cabin.
"So, bonfire. What time will you come by to pick me up so that we can go together?" She asked causing Pete’s eyebrows to raise, he hadn’t expected to actually want to go let alone ask for a pick. Well, she wasn’t really asking.
Which meant he couldn’t really say no either. “6.”
.:. .::. .:.
“Why are you here?” Pete scowled across the room to where Eve was sitting in front of his mirror doing her makeup. She’d arrived two hours ago with a bottle of vodka and had refused to leave, insisting on catching him up on all the camp gossip. Even when he’d pointedly ignored her by sticking his nose in a book.
With a mascara wand paused in mid-air she flashed him a grin. “I’m not going to be one of those sad girls who gets ready for a party alone.” She swivelled her head back to the mirror, no doubt unable to go long without looking at her own reflection, and continued on her makeup.
"You could try making a friend." He suggested sarcastically, she'd have to be nice to someone for that to happen. He left the room to get ready and returned to find Eve pouring out two shots. “I’m not touching that. You’ve probably poisoned it.” He said barely sparing her a glance as he headed for the door. She shrugged, did both shots than followed after him, grabbing his elbow to take him to the beach.
He pulled out of her talons and started off in the other direction, towards Liv’s cabin. “You go. I’ll meet you there.” He tried to keep it vague but he couldn’t lie. And not just for moral reasons, this was his sister, she’d smell a lie on him a mile off.
Eve responded with smirk large enough that it almost seemed like a sneer. “Aww, Little Petey’s got a date?” Pete didn’t respond that it wasn’t a date, there was no point, and instead he stayed quiet. And Eve knew him better than to expect a response. He felt her eyes assessing him. “Who?” He remained quiet, but she continued to hound him. His scowl grew darker and darker, he was pretty much glowering by the time the siblings arrived at Liv’s, where she was leaving her cabin. “Her?” Eve stated quietly for his ears only, she sounded like she was holding back laughter. “Of course you’d go for the camp pariah.” Liv was approaching them now, so Eve only had time for one last barb. “She’ll bore someone like you.”
“Hey Liv, hope you don’t mine me tagging along on your little date.” Eve said with a chipper smile, without a hint of malice, resting an arm on his shoulder. Pete had to admit she was a good actress, but he refused to play along as he didn’t bother to hide his own scowl. He nodded to Liv, figuring she was smart enough to realise she wasn’t the cause of his dark mood. “You look great by the way Liv. Pete took ages getting ready, he was so nervous.” He rolled his eyes, but didn’t bother denying it, it wasn’t worth the effort, and he’d learnt early on with his sister not to play her game. You were better off not engaging. “Well, let’s rock and roll.” Eve said leading the way down to the beach.
“Yeah, if we don’t hurry up we’ll miss all the good songs,” Pete replied darkly, flashing Liv a smirk. At least she was like him, a natural loner. They arrived at the party, and Pete knew his sister was going to take off. Go bother someone more interesting. But just in case she needed the prodding, he spotted Mason dancing. “Looks like lover boy found someone new.” Of course, Eve had spent the better part of the evening filling him in on everything she’d been up to. Enough to make his ears bleed really.
Pete turned to Liv speaking only to her, “Drink?” He really needed one. So he led the way, scooping up a beer and cracking it open. He spotted Alex not far off chatting with Wes, was she ever without him or Duke? When he caught her eye he made a point of eyeing her outfit, what little of it there was. Raising his eyebrows with a smirk, he took a long mouthful of his beer. Unlike him and Liv, Alex seemed custom built to enjoy a party.
Looking Liv he gave his a small, bashful smile. “Sorry.” He mumbled, he didn’t really feel he needed to explain what the apology was for. He figured the idea of asking him to pick her up was to avoid attention and having to talk to people, which Eve had ruined.
Eve had to restrain herself from glaring at her brother. She’d gone round to his cabin with good intentions, hoping a good dose of gossip would snap him out of his moody funk. All she received for her efforts were his scowls. Pete nodded across the dancefloor, ”Looks like lover boy found someone new.” Eve’s eyes followed his and saw Mason starting to dance with Iliana, her eyebrow spiked upwards at the bizarre pairing.
She looked back at her brother with a coy smile. “So you were listening today.” She decided that she just had to investigate further so she gave a half salute to Pete and Liv, “Laters. Enjoy being all sulky you two.” Then she delved into the party, heading towards the dancing pair, getting there in time to catch Mason’s smirk towards Heath. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what the smirk was about and Eve was almost proud to see him pushing someone else’s buttons.
She decided pretty quickly to help and sidled up to Heath and the guy he was a talking to, hearing the end of Heath’s comment about watching Iliana dance. She smiled up at both of them then flicked her eyes to dancing couple with a smirk “I get to see Mason dancing? Is it my birthday?” She eyed up Heath, flicking her eyes from him to Iliana and back a few times. Deliberately making herself look concerned as she leaned towards him. “You know, I’m super impressed with you. I thought you’d be over there all growly and ripping the two of them apart.”
She placed a hand on his arm using it to influence his thoughts, Be protective of Iliana. Keep her away from Mason. She didn’t say the words out loud, not wanting to give the game away, so her magic would be less binding. But if he was already feeling a little protective or conflicted, her magic would seep in and mould his thoughts like putty.
Dropping her hand she shifted her attention to the brunette with Heath. She eyed him over, he looked familiar, but surely she would have noted a good looking guy like him, not to mention she’d be aware if Mason had a friend. She didn’t count Andy. “And you,” She chucked a thumb towards where Mason was off dancing. “I would have bet serious money on that guy having no friends.” She laughed running her hands through her hair and lowering her voice to a false whisper. “Between you and me, I think he fancies himself as some kind of big scary wolf.” She flashed him a playful grin, to show that she meant no harm. Playing the friendly card until she knew what kind of guy she was dealing with. “I’m Eve.”
Andy was about turn the handle and go back inside when she heard music just about blare behind her. Her face scrunched up slightly at the sheer volume of the party. She never remembered it being that loud. Who in the hell was in control of the volume? Maybe it was her subconscious telling her to just go inside or was it telling her to go to the party?
"It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life. For me. And I'm feeling good."
Andy's heart skipped a beat when she heard Daniel's—Keith's voice. What in the hell was he doing? She slowly spun around on her heels, glancing over her shoulder in the direction of the music. "Keith?"
He did some showy moves, flipping the microphone and kicking in beat with the song. "Oh freedom is mine, and I know how I feel." Andy's brows furrowed in confusion. Maybe it was everything that's been going on but nothing was sinking in. Was this some cruel prank that Keith thought would be funny? Was this Daniel? Had she officially lost her mind and was hallucinating?
"Andy, if you don't go to the party, who's gonna control your brother?" Daniel then extended his arms toward her expectantly.
"Daniel?!" her voice cracked. Andy ran toward him, jumping over the steps down from her porch. She practically leaped into his arms, nearly knocking him over when she collided into him. She held him so tight, that he'd probably complain about not being able to breathe but she didn't care.
"Hi, sis," he said quietly as he held her.
"How are you here? You died!" Tears fell from her eyes, ruining her makeup... again. But she couldn't care less. Gods did she miss him. "I can't believe you're here. I've missed you so much," she whispered.
"Now come on, things to do, people to see. 50 dollars says I can get 90% of camp's population to dance."
Daniel tried to pull her away and hold her at an arm's length. But Andy quickly wrapped her arms back around him, shaking her head. "Just one more minute, please?" She practically begged. Andy had no idea how time passed for him or what it was like. But for her, it was an eternity. Over a year without her brother. He could spare another moment or two before they went to the party. Gods knew she needed it.
Andy sighed as she finally let him free from her grasp, almost scared that if she let go of him, he'd vanish. Like it all was an illusion in her head. "Did you need to complete that outfit with a big long fluffy coat?"
She managed to actually laugh as she ran her fingers under her eyes, trying her best to fix her makeup. "It's not like I'm wearing a sequin jumpsuit," she quipped in response. Gods how long had it been since she had a normal lighthearted conversation? It felt nice. As Andy and Daniel walked side by side to the party, it almost felt like some of the weight had been lifted from her shoulders. For a brief moment she could breathe. But unfortunately, that didn't last long.
Andy's paced slowed when they reached the party as her brother quickly made his way toward Mason. On any other day she would have been right beside him but they still weren't talking. And if she smelled Eve's perfume on him it'd make her nauseous. She stood there awkwardly at the edge of the tree line scanning the people who had arrived. But before she saw anyone of worth a red head popped up right in front of her with a smile. She remembered the girl from earlier, gossiping about Andy's personal life like it was some trash TV. Suffice it to say, she did not return the smile.
"Hey. My name is Penelope, but you can call me Nelly." Andy didn't care. Maybe under different circumstances she would have been her old bubbly self. But not now. It was hard enough for Andy to bite her tongue the first time. "Um . . I am sorry if what I said earlier this morning hurt your feelings. I am known to say what I am thinking and it's gotten me into plenty of trouble. Just know that whatever my actions are in the future, I would never intentionally hurt anyone. So yeah sorry."
"Just leave my personal life out of it," Andy said before she felt an arm drape across her shoulder. Some of her tension faded away when she saw it was Trinity, even managing a soft smile.
"Look who decided to show." Andy rolled her eyes playfully at the comment. Like Trinity would have let her stay locked up in her cabin. "Hey Nelly, I'm Trinity." She gave Nelly a firm handshake, which Andy could only imagine was far more aggressive than it looked. She had to resist the urge to laugh. Trin wasn't the subtle type, one of the many reasons they were friends.
Trinity turned her attention to Andy. "Did you want to get a drink, Ando?" She was doing what any good best friend would do, getting her out of an awkward encounter. In time she'd forget Nelly's comments, but it was still fresh and she was in no mood to fake friendly. Trin's head then leaned toward hers as she spoke lowly, "You good?"
Andy held her friend's gaze and gave such a minor shake of her head, anyone else might have missed it. But it didn't seem Trinity was good either. The arrival of Wes caused the blonde to instantly tense. "I know that look," Andy said quietly.
But before she was able to tug Trinity away toward the drinks table, or just far enough away from a private conversation, Nelly had more to say. "Hello, Trinity. Nice evening huh? I got in last night so that's why I am late. I am still learning the ropes here so if you have any recommendations, I'll gladly take them. Is this ya'll's first year here or have both of you been here before?"
Andy's arm wrapped around the middle of Trinity's back, her hand gently grasping her friend's side. "Sorry, not to be rude." Although she kind of did. "But we need a moment in private."
Without anything else to add to the present conversation, she led Trin away, slowly walking them toward the drinks. Which, coincidentally, was where Wes was. "Do you think maybe you're being a little hard on him?" Andy asked, nodding her head toward Wes who's back was toward them. "He never questions you about your male friends." She saw the look Trinity made when she saw him with Alex. She understood her jealously, it was natural. But Wes had better tastes than Alex. "I doubt he has a dishonest bone in his body. He's arguably one of the nicest guys at camp. He's crazy about you... And he makes you happy." With her final words, Andy slowed them both to a stop, turning to face Trinity.
"Don't be dumb like me and ruin a good thing." She gave Trin's arm a reassuring squeeze with a smile. "I'm going to go take a shot... or like five," Andy joked. "But you should go talk to him. 5 bucks says, he's already forgiven you." Not that Trinity was in the wrong, she was entitled to her own feelings. But if she tried to apologize, Wes was already over it. He was too infatuated with her to stay mad.
Andy retreated, walking backwards towards the refreshments. She motioned her thumb toward Wes's back and gave Trinity a wink. She then spun around and went to the far end of the drinks table, giving Wes and, in particular, Alex, a wide birth. Have a good time. Don't think about it and don't get too drunk. Easy. Then it seemed the second that all went through her head, it went out the window. Andy took two shots of whatever was out, then grabbed a bear. No more.
She started toward the bonfire and almost froze when she saw the back of Ajax. Andy took a deep breath, not wanting to divert her path. She felt like that would be obvious and someone would notice, someone like Mason. But he wasn't dumb and probably could tell without anything being said. Andy slowly approached and took a seat on a different log than the one he and Duke sat on that was a couple feet away. After taking a couple sips of her beer, she sparred a glance toward Ajax as he stood up to follow after his friend. When she caught his gaze, Andy gave him a slight wave of her fingers and a brief smile before he left. It was weird. They were so close but felt miles apart. Any other party she'd be right there beside him, maybe even sitting in his lap if he had his way. But, now they were like strangers.
Evelyn did not seem pleased about Sylas asking her for a favor. And here he thought she'd love the opportunity to have the upper hand, a moment to revel in the fact that he came to her for help. Regardless of how minor his ask was. After a moment she took the bottle. "I would but you didn't even say please." Her smug expression made Sylas chuckle. "In fact, you should be begging me for this small little favor of yours. Or at least make your case of why I should help you," she added as she hid the bottle behind her back.
Sylas took the bait stepping forward to close a little bit of the distance between them. "Please, Evelyn, would you satisfy the demon in me by charming that little bottle?" His brow raised while the rest of his face remained fairly serious. He leaned his head in so that his lips were near her ear as he spoke softly. "I'll make a fair trade for your services." Sylas pulled his head back just enough so he could hold her gaze. "I'll give you one question," he said as he held up his index finger. "Any question and I'll answer it, honestly. No lies, omissions or ambiguity."
After a moment or so, Evelyn withdrew the bottle from behind her back and held it out to him. "Our little secret."
"My lips are sealed," he grinned as he took the bottle from her delicate fingers.
"Don't get too excited. Really wanting somebody varies on intention." Sylas nodded his head and gave her a silent salute with the top of the bottle to his forehead. "I look forward to seeing who you're after. Good luck."
Sylas might have added a comment about how he didn't need luck, or something else around those lines. Instead he gave her a wink and headed toward the bonfire where he planned to announce his fun activity. But then he saw the big idiot arrive with none other than his sister, which temporarily diverted his attention.
The fresh air from their walk to the beach cleared Sloane's head. Being lightheaded and dizzy was not an ideal condition while drinking. Not that she was the drinking type. She stopped just outside the tree line, taking everything in. Nothing too crazy was going on yet, some dancing and drinking, but fairly calm. Maybe she'd be lucky enough to wonder about for an hour then disappear back to Liam's cabin, away from everyone. She was about to take a step forward in the general direction of the bonfire when she caught sight of her brother beelining straight for them. "He's coming this way," Sloane said under her breath toward Liam, but didn't divert her eyes from her brother's fiery and direct gaze.
Before Sloane could even try to grab Liam's arm and divert them in a different direction, Sylas was there. "Sloane. Liam." He gave his best fake smile as he grabbed Liam's shoulder. "How's the new roomie situation going?" he asked with a grin and a tight squeeze of the brute's deltoid. While they were still in physical contact, Sylas let his powers flow into Liam. Kick her out. You don't want Sloane. She's a burden. Pathetic. After a moment when nothing happened, he moved his hand from Liam to point at his sister. "You used your powers on him... didn't you?"
Sloane shifted where she stood, her fingers twiddling and tugging at the sleeves of her shirt. She didn't say anything, just sideways glanced up at Liam before looking back to her brother. Sylas shook his finger as he laughed smugly. "She's a smart one isn't she?... Makes me wonder what she sees in a big idiot like you?"
Sloane quickly spun on her heels, moving between the two. She turned her back to Sylas as she pressed her hands to Liam's abdomen, trying to stop him from lashing out. "Don't. He's just trying to get under your skin. If you to hit him first, you'll look like the bad guy," She said quietly as she looked up at him. Sloane wouldn't be able to stop Liam if he was set on murdering Sylas in front of everyone. But she hoped he'd listen to her rather than her brother.
"Yes, tame your beast. It's only a matter of time before your control over him fades. And then what, dear sister?"
"I don't control him," Sloane replied coldly, before looking over her shoulder toward her brother. "I'm not you."
"How adorable. You asked his permission didn't you?" Sylas shook his head, laughing softly as he tossed the bottle in his hand. "She's obviously taking advantage of you big boy. You fought her battles, give up your home... even let her worm her way into your mind willingly. Is she that good in bed?"
Sloane's jaw clenched as her gaze moved to the ground and her hands fell from Liam's chest. Her cheeks began to flush, getting so red it nearly outshined her lipstick. "Who are we kidding? Sloane here is a prude." Sylas raised his hand to stroke his sister's cheek with his index finger. "I doubt she's ever been kissed." He chuckles before wrapping his arm around Sloane's shoulders. "Let's change that, shall we?"
Her eyes went wide as Sylas tugged her away from Liam. Although his face was friendly and he appeared to be walking with her amiably, his grip on her arm was strong, almost challenging her to struggle against him. She was barely able to keep up with his long strides, frequently glancing over her shoulder toward Liam. She didn't want him to start a fight, not here in front of everyone. That'd give her brother what he wanted. He was going to continue to push Liam and herself until one of them caved.
Sylas came to a halt near the bonfire, but didn't release his hold on Sloane, instead leading them both to step up on a log. He raised his free hand to his lips letting out a loud whistle. Once he had everyone's attention, he gave a charming smile before speaking. "I don't know about all of you, but my sister and I think that what this party really needs... Is a game!" He holds up the bottle, wiggling it slightly.
He jumps down from the log, leaving Sloane to slowly step down on her own while he walks around the fire. "I'm sure you've all heard of 7 minutes in heaven." Sylas smirked. "I was content with a simple game of spin the bottle, but Sloane's itching for something a little more exciting." He slowed his pace until he was standing before Andy. "Andy, would you mind conjuring up something a little more... private?"
Andy slowly sat up right, tapping her fingers against her beer. She didn't want to be a part of this game, but Sylas didn't look like he was going to let anyone get away with sitting out. She sighed, before extending her left hand with her palm up. As her hand raised, a closet rose up from the ground on a farther edge of the beach, a hundred or so feet away.
Sylas smiled as he turned back around to face the rest of the campers. "I'm sure you all are familiar with the rules." He tapped the brim of the bottle to his bottom lip as he scanned everyone. "Now who should go first?" At one point he slowed down before Sloane. "It'd be unfair to give it to you first. After all, this was your idea... You'll just have to wait your turn." He grinned looking between her and Liam.
But then he spun around and walked directly up to a particular blonde, that he was very interested to learn more about. Eve. Sylas flipped the bottle in his hand, before holding it out to her. "The honor is yours."
Sloane crossed her arms over her chest. She hated when he did stuff like this, spun things around on her. He made it seem like this was her master plan, so if she left... Well, she couldn't. With a sigh, she took a seat on a log as far from her brother as possible. This was going to be a long night.
"You've never allowed one arm to get you down, though, which is pretty damn awesome if you ask me."
Wes chuckled softly. "Well, thank you. I couldn't very well bitch about something that was my own fault, now could I?"
Alex hooked her arm in his as they headed through the woods toward the party. She seemed happy at the little decorations of lights leading to the beach and the prospect of a party. It did always seem to lighten moods for most of the campers. Wes just hoped that it might be an opportunity for him and Trinity to... move forward maybe. If that was still an option. He hated it that she was mad at him for something he didn't do. Or maybe he did and he was just too much of an idiot to realize it. Wes just hoped, whatever it was, he could fix it.
"Let's make this a night to remember."
He smiled toward her, then quickly ducked away when she tried to tickle him. "Woah, none of that." He laughed, holding his index finger up in contradiction.
Wes slowly trailed after Alex toward the concession table, where there was an ample amount of food and a variety of drinks available. He hadn't quite realized how completely famished he was until he smelled the food. He wasted no time fixing up a burger and snagging a beer to drink along with it. He barely ate all day with his stomach in constant knots. Now with food in front of him, he had to fight to urge to shove it down in a single bite.
"If there's any dancing... you going to ask Trinity?"
He froze with the burger held to his lips. "I want to... I just... I don't know if she'd agree."
Wes took a large bite out of his food as he turned around to observe the party. He froze, mouth full, when he saw Trinity standing a few feet in front of him. He stood there... awkwardly as he tried to quickly chew and swallow the the food. "Trinity... You look gorgeous." Wes looked awkwardly between his burger, beer and then Trinity. He quickly set what he held onto the table and dusted his hands off on his pants. "Can I get you a drink?"
Shortly after he asked, Sylas made a loud show beckoning everyone to join in on a game. Wes didn't know how he felt about partaking. He didn't need another reason for her to be mad at him. He slowly took a step toward Trinity, motioning toward the bonfire. "Did you want to join? I wouldn't kiss anyone... just stand there awkwardly for 7 minutes." He quickly continued adding another comment. "I mean, you can kiss whoever you want though... Or we could just walk around. Or I could leave you alone. I just want you to enjoy yourself... to be happy."
Gods was he putting his foot in his mouth. Wes awkwardly chewed on his bottom lip. He didn't know how to fill the silence, so instead he grabbed another beer. He popped it open, then held it out toward her, almost like a silent peace offering. He was content to wait until she decided his fate for the evening.
7 minutes in heaven
1. The person who receives the bottle, spins it and it will land on whomever they want. Doesn't have to be for romantic reasons, just whomever they desire.
2. They are locked in the closet for 7 minutes.
3. Afterwards the person who the bottle landed on (not who spun it) picks who goes next.
disclaimer: I suggest writing a collab between the two characters going into the closet, so that it isn't a bunch of back and forth posts and so it doesn't take forever for one round. It could be easy enough to include the spinning of the bottle, time in the closet and choosing the next person in a single collab.
Any questions, let me know :)
Liv did not bother to make much in the way of conversation with Eve. If Pete wasn’t going to play the game, and the little blonde minx wasn’t implanting suggestions, then there was no reason to stir the pot. She just offered her a thin sarcastic smile and looked over her outfit. The daughter of Poseidon really overdressed for this occasion. Though, she supposed it was just the girl’s attention seeking style. Not that it was wrong. It was cute attire and very much in the spirit of a bonfire at the beach.
“Yeah, if we don’t hurry up we’ll miss all the good songs,” Pete had said, and Liv didn’t reply because she felt he was more or less trying to urge them on before Eve embarrassed him more. Though, when he turned to smirk at her, she couldn’t help but cast her eyes to the ground and suppress what could have been a chuckle.
As they arrived at the party, she noted that he was all too eager to get his sister away from him. Pete taunted Eve with the thought that Mason was getting along with another woman. One that was not her. “Looks like lover boy found someone new.” After that, the vixen took off to bother other people, and thankfully so. Liv was tired of it already, and women like Eve were not her type of friend or acquaintance. She wasn't about to talk bad about his sister to his face, as that was a job for him alone. So, she let the topic of Eve flutter away like the woman herself.
“Drink?” He inquired, already headed for the booze just seconds after relief from his sister. She couldn't blame him and was partly glad that she didn't have a brother here. It meant that she could keep to herself and only venture out when necessary - training or, in this case, mandatory fun nights. If she had holed herself up in her cabin, someone would have probably come and dragged her out. There was nothing fun about mandatory fun nights, but maybe she'd catch a break from the nuances of trying to socialize with the camp's typically drama-mongers with Pete. "Don't mind if I do," she replied finally whilst snatching not one, but two from the cooler.
She strolled with Pete for a bit until they could find a spot that wasn't occupied by anyone, and she plopped her rear-end on the sand. She didn't care if he was opposed to it and sat on one of the logs, but she rather enjoyed the sand. Understandably, a lot of people did not. Liv had watched his gaze fall onto Alex, and her attention flitted from one demigod to the other. "I guess I should have dressed down for this party," she noted, mostly to herself, but he'd be able to hear it without a problem.
Her head cocked to the side, and she glanced back and over at him when he offered an apology without any actual context, “Sorry.” She assumed as she does often, that it had to do with Eve and the fact that she was a loquacious little thing that had spoken a little too much for both their comfort. Luckily for him, Liv was relatively easy-going in good company, and Pete is just about the sanest person around.
She offered him a small shrug, taking a long sip from her beer. "It's fine. I'm used to it by now. I think I am learning that the less I respond, the more people leave me alone. The more I can train, and the less they do while they are all wrapped up in their ridiculous bullshit." A sigh fell from her lips and she found herself looking over at the darkened beach and the moonlight that scattered over the catspaws of calm waters. "Have you ever been to the beach this late at night and actually get in the water? Not just drink and do dumb things like-" The announcement from Sylas came about, and she jerked a thumb toward him to wordlessly complete her sentence. "The gods are probably looking down at us trying to figure out why we would stuff two people in a closet when there are perfectly good cabins to make out in." She laughed at that.
She looked back at him to see if she could get a little something out, "Which gal would you go into a closet with?" She gestured to the various women with her beer hand while leaning back and bracing her torso against an arm.
"He's coming this way," she warned. The son of Ares knew that his night was not going to be easy. So, when Sylas caught his prey in those predatorial eyes, he wasn't surprised at all. Part of him understood that he'd be roped into playing these games, into being made to look like an Ares kid hellbent on beating up kids in floral blouses. Not that a kid wearing that shirt was undeserving of a beat down.
For a second there, the arm closest to Sloane instinctively reached out, as if it would have wrapped around her so that they could withdraw from this situation. It just so happened that it was at the same time she thought about grabbing it herself. But the snake had rapidly slithered over, and he didn't want the other campers to take note of the fact that she needed protecting.
"Sloane. Liam," the serpent practically hissed as he grabbed Liam's shoulder. At that second, the beastly man's jaw set noticeably - he could snap at any time now. All of the muscles in his head were tense; they even pulsed to the clenching of his teeth. It was his infamous tell that all the blood in his veins was beginning to run hot. His fingers curled into white-knuckled fists. He was gearing up for tearing Sloane's brother apart in front of everyone.
"How's the new roomie situation going?" He continued to taunt him like the obvious idiot he was. Yet beneath those words were something else, something that made the hair at the back of his neck bristle. It was unsettling. He rubbed that spot for a second, having long since forgotten that Sloane told him to tell her when he felt this. Right now, he wasn't remembering much of anything save for how much he is really wishing he would have killed this guy.
Sylas' attention withdrew from Liam and fixated upon his own sister, "You used your powers on him... didn't you? She's a smart one isn't she?... Makes me wonder what she sees in a big idiot like you?" Liam hadn't spoken at all. There was no reply - no retort, only a deathly stare pinned to Sylas. He was watching. Waiting. Any second now, and he'd have the perfect excuse to knock his head off of his little ass neck, and he didn't care if anyone saw it.
Just when he thought he was going to do it, Sloane stepped in between him. Her fingers pressed against his stomach, which was tense like every other muscle in his body. It was like he was all coiled up and poised to strike. "Don't. He's just trying to get under your skin. If you hit him first, you'll look like the bad guy."
He wanted to tell her that he was a bad guy. Liam was good in Sloane's eyes because that's the only part of him she had witnessed thus far. He peered down at her as she looked up at him, and there was not a kind expression on his face. Something about his posture, the glare of red in his eyes, and his silence was all in warning. Sloane had stepped between the son of Ares, of whom was approaching the apex of his patience for the guy just right behind her. All he needed to do was go through her, and if it weren't for the simple fact that he was in control of himself, he would. Had it been any other woman, he would have pushed her aside without a second thought. She tethered him to his own self-control, and he didn't even know it was actually happening. Without him even realizing it, he was gripping her fingers in his. Palms that tightened and tightened without any sign of letting up. However, when she likely began to feel discomfort, he released her slowly.
He seethed as the sibling pair continued to bicker, "I don't control him. I'm not you."
Still, Sylas continued on his way, knowing full well that the only thing that would hold Liam back, for today was Sloane. Deep down, he knew that was because they were in view of an audience, and he wasn't going to embarrass her. "How adorable. You asked his permission didn't you? She's obviously taking advantage of you big boy. You fought her battles, give up your home... even let her worm her way into your mind willingly. Is she that good in bed?"
Liam then drew from the well of all his comebacks, knowing full well what Sylas was looking for. With all the rumors that would circulate from her staying in his cabin, he really wasn't saying something that others weren't thinking. It would probably shut Sylas up. Liam looked him deadpan, visibly relaxed himself, and smirked, "She's great in bed, actually. It must be really hard to watch your sister get laid while you're still trying to woo that sweet little redhead over there. Look, she's with another guy. You really must have a small dick, dick." he even goes as far as looking over at Evelyn. "I wonder if you’ll have to beat her up to get her to sleep with you, since you’re such a fucking coward.”
Whatever Sylas said next went in one ear and out the other. He didn't care. Soon enough, they were headed toward the bonfire. The fact that he latched onto his sister and led her out ahead of him wasn't a real concern. The little fucking coward won't do shit, but it still irked the fuck out of him.
Neither Sloane nor Liam were going to play this game in front of everyone right now. As much as it bothered him to sit back and let Sylas command them, there was no other option. Sure, Liam was strong, but that didn't mean that other Demigods couldn't beat him. Given Sylas' tenacity for persuasion, he didn't want to risk it.
Sylas thought he was a dumb idiot, but Liam is a strategic man and this is slowly starting to become a battlefield. After the Trial, and with all of the drama coming - with Hades carted away - the hammer was going to fall eventually. When it does, he didn’t want himself and Sloane to be caught on the wrong side of things. He didn’t need the campers thinking that he was the bad guy in this story.
Everyone began to sit, and Liam did, too. Only it was not next to Sloane, it was across and slightly to the right of her. She knew he was close, and he knew that Sylas was a smart man, too.
