D E C O R U S

h e i g h t x // x6' 2"

w e i g h t x // x185 lbs

h a i r x // xWes has short dirty blonde hair that is usually spiked in some sort of manor. On most occasions he has a 5 o'clock shadow, never being a fan of the clean shaved look or a full on beard.

e y e s x // xWes' eyes are what he's most known for. They're a brilliant green, like emeralds. Captivating and striking. Surprisingly enough, he got those from his father and not Aphrodite.

o d d i t i e s x // xBefore coming to the camp, it could be said that Wes was without flaw from head to toe. But his first year came with many curveballs. The worst claiming his right arm. He does also have a few scars from the bumps they encountered at the camp, but nothing more noticeable than the absence of his right arm. But unlike many who would receive this blow, Wes laughs in the face of his own disability and refuses to let it cripple him.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xWes is not what is expected of a son of Aphrodite. For some reasons everyone assumes it'll be some pretty boy with polos and coiffed hair. Wes is almost always in a leather jacket and jeans. He looks like the boy that all the father's warn their daughters about. Tall, well fit in every way with a smile that could kill. He doesn't have to try to look attractive or seduce, it's just part of his natural charm and aura. The boy next door with bad boy charisma. It's been said his attractiveness appeals to everyone in different ways, almost morphing slightly to appeal to each person in a unique way. The worst part being, he's oblivious to most of his appeal. His innocence and naivety making him that much more magnetic.

P E R S O N A L I T A T E
xxxxxxxxxxxxx compassionate xx cocky xx outgoing xx brave x

One thing that could be said about Wes is that he has a big heart. This wouldn’t have been muttered when he first came to camp a year ago. He was the textbook definition of a womanizing piece of shit. But between the friendships he made at camp, he went through a complete change of character. He is a big muscley teddy bear, that wears his heart on his sleeve. He goes out of his way to do for others. Being borderline too selfless for his own good. Maybe if he wasn’t he’d still have his arm… But he doesn’t resent it, because his loss helped in what little way he could.

But, he is a son of Aphrodite. Although he is much humbler now… Or, as humble as an Aphrodite kid can be. He knows he’s attractive, but doesn’t necessarily flaunt it. His cockiness comes more from a very strong sense of self-esteem. There are very few things that he can pride himself on, but that doesn’t mean he’ll still won’t talk like he’s the best. Confidence is key. Maybe one day of telling himself and everyone else that he can do something, eventually he’ll be able to.

Shyness is not an option for Wes… Ever. He is the life of the party. His bubbly, magnetic personality makes it easy for him to eb and flow with people. Socializing comes easy to him, even if it is a deep emotional topic or expressing his feelings, Wes doesn’t give a second though to expressing himself. Sometimes that’s not always a good thing, but he’s never been one to try to be anything than his true authentic self.

It’s pretty funny how brave Wes is, when the odds are always against him. He’s not much of a fighter, doesn’t know much combat… But that wouldn’t stop him from charging into battle to protect those he loves. He’s brave to a reckless degree. That’s how he lost his arm. Blind bravery. In most cases a trait like that can be a positive… Only when you have the power to back it up. If his stupidity can save lives, then head first he goes right into it.

H I S T O R I A R U M

Growing up in the 90210, Wesley always had whatever he could desire at the tips of his fingers. And to most that was always their dream to grow up with tons of money and parents who didn't seem to give 2 shits about what he did. Scratch that... parent. His father, Jacob Preston, was one of the most sought-after defense attorneys in the nation. Jacob could make serial killers come up as innocent in court. The made him a high demand lawyer, with a substantial amount of income. Being a lawyer, his dad was always very distant and cold towards Wes, leaving him to be raised by nannies and maids due to the absence of his mother.

Ever since he was little, Wes always had a knack for getting into trouble because it always seemed to be the only way to get his father's attention. On a regular basis he would skip classes to go meet up with girls or cause trouble throughout the town. By age 16 he had been arrested twice and every cop in the district knew his name. But Wes didn't mind the attention, in fact he loved it whenever all eyes were on him. His new bad boy reputation also made him begin to get even more affection from the ladies… Compared the large amount he was already getting when he still dressed in the expensive clothes his father bought him. Wesley would be rather wearing a leather jacket, and a pair of torn jeans, driving an old model car or motorcycle, instead of the $1000 suits and Mercedes his father tried to buy him.

Although Wesley was a very intelligent kid in school, he ended up flunking out due to his numerous absences and his lack of attention or discipline. When his father found out that Wes wasn't going to be able to go to Yale like he did, he was furious. He no longer wanted his son in his house hold let alone anywhere near him. So, Jacob finally decided to sit Wes done and tell him the true story about his mother. Obviously, Wesley did not believe a single thing his father said, until Aphrodite herself appeared in their living room.

She said that she had been trying since Wes was a kid to get his father to send him to the camp where he would be "safe." Since his father no longer wanted anything to do with him, Aphrodite took the opportunity when she could. It was apparent that his parents no longer got along, but as to the history that passed between them, Wesley would never find out. All he could tell was that his father had been keeping him from his mom all these years, and even though Wes felt a little old to be going to a camp. He accepted the opportunity to get away from his ungrateful dad and possibly one day get to know his mother better.

As if his life wasn’t already being flipped upside down, everything changed when he came to camp. For the first time in Wes’ life, it was just about him. He didn’t have to fight to get attention, because everyone there was special in their own way. He had friends… People always either wanted in his wallet or pants, never taking the chance to get to know the man beneath. He finally knew what it was like to be wanted somewhere… And it changed everything about him. His prerogative changed from selfish to selfless, and his narcissistic shell faded to a compassionate teddy bear. Fighting hydras, a hopeless crush and losing his arm… he never felt more at home.

She was about ready to move again, this time onto the sand where she could sit alone, away from the music and fire and meditate on the waves. But another bottle floated in her vision. She smiled taking the water from Wes and shuffled to a side of the log assuring plenty of room for him to sit. Him and company apparently. Trinity watched the exchange, the small girl revealing a tablet and him peering towards it.

“Yeah, I was just... upset,” he seemingly replied, causing Trinity to frown. He looked at her, making Trinity cant her head slightly. It took her a bit to realize he wasn't talking about today but yesterday's drama. She pursed her lips looking away. She didn't need any guilt setting in right now. Trinity had given her apology and meant every word.

“I'm sorry I was an ass. I don't get angry often and when I do... It kinda just implodes.”

“Join the club,” she commented. Trinity sipped on her water to keep herself quiet, looking away innocently. She didn't say it to be bitchy but point out that he knew how hard it was to keep anger caged.

Wes shifted away slightly motioning to her. “By the way, I don't know if you have met. But this is my...” Trinity perked up a little. She'd love to know what she was of his. But Wes seemed to have second thoughts with a laugh. “Trinity. Trinity, this is Iliana. I met her the other day when I befriended a rabbit.”

Trinity smirked and lowered her head. “Of course you did,” she muttered. She tried not to be too taunting in front of his new friend but couldn't help herself. “He's a modern-day Disney Princess. We actually met similarly. Post minotaur taming.” She smiled. Wes certainly had no story that started with a salad.

Trinity snapped herself out of her reflection and fondness for how they developed. She held out a hand to Iliana. The girl looked a bit breakable and timid and Trinity knew she didn't have the most friendly vibes, particularly next to Wes. “I promise I'll be gentle.” Trinity winked playfully gesturing to her hand.

Wes sat by her. “How have you been enjoying the party?” Trinity wasn't watching Wes but no doubt the question was directed towards Iliana as they had not long come out of the closet together. “Hoping to get your chance in the closet?”

She grunted but sat up straighter looking to Iliana. Majority of the camp wanted to get in the closet, and half of those attendees wanted it to be with her....Wes. Protective and territorial as she was, Iliana didn't seem like an Eve so she was at ease as she could be regarding the subject.

“So what's with the secret code messaging?” Trinity nodded to Iliana's tablet. “Are you sick?” she asked, without any snark or sarcasm. It wouldn't be a bad idea when somebody came down with a flu or laryngitis to type their messages to everyone.

“Which God or Goddess do you belong to by the way? As a warning, the minute I know, I'll start questioning how your powers can be used for war.” She laughed to herself while her company may find it less endearing and humourous. If that were to be the case, she'd ditch the water and return to the beers.

She stifled a yawn behind her hand feeling the exhaustion catch up to her. She hadn't slept well last night. Even when she was about to retire for the night, she'd rather it not end so dull and with another speech (or letter) of how violence wasn't the answer. Trinity was tolerant of Liam because he was blood but this Iliana wasn't.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Yeah, I was just... upset," Wes replied.
Well that had been obvious, but Iliana wasn't bound to write anything like that. Instead she watch him glance to Trinity, whom she just now notice. The woman intimidated her and she automatically hid behind Wes before he turned back to her.
"I'm sorry I was an ass. I don't get angry often and when I do... It kinda just implodes."
Iliana nodded in understanding. While it was true she could get emotional, anger wasn't normally one of those emotions and it took a lot to anger her and when it did, sometimes the results were disastrous. In the murkiness of her memories of her torture, she did remember getting very angry for some reason and that was when she used her hunger moves and the regret she felt was nothing she ever felt. The memory of it made her shudder. Wes addressed her again and introduced her to Trinity. After comparing Wes to a Disney princess, Trinity got up and held out her hand in greeting.
Her nerves must have been showing for Trinity said, “I promise I'll be gentle.”
Slowly, Iliana placed her hand in hers and shakes it. Introductions out of the way, Wesley asked her how she was enjoying the party and if she wanted a chance in the closet. Writing down a response, she showed it to him while still standing up.
~It's been fine so far. I am concerned for a new friend of mine. As far as the closet goes, I have no expectations since I generally am not the party type.~
It was true about the closet. The only thing that concerned her about the closet was for Alex and Mason to be inside of it together. Well, and for Ethan to get picked. She hoped Sylas wouldn't pick him after he got out with Nelly. She hoped Nelly was okay too. Her thoughts were interrupted when Trinity spoke to her again.
“So what's with the secret code messaging?" she asked, pointing to her tablet and asked if she was sick.
Shaking her head, Iliana wrote her answer down.
~I can't speak so I have other ways of talking. I am hoping to find my voice again though at this camp.~
The idea of never speaking again did unnerve her, but she would trust in something Apollo once told her. Don't rush the healing process. You'll find your voice. He believed her lack of a voice was more due to mental trauma then physical trauma. Trinity then asked her who her divine parent was and warned her about using them for war.
~My mother is Demeter. I have a hard time controlling my powers since their linked to my emotions. I am hoping to learn to control them better. Maybe you can help me? You're Ares's daughter right? You mentioned it during the trial. I know I can be strong with my divine abilities, but I am still recovering from something over a year ago, so I am not emotionally stable yet.~
Of course Trinity could be a lose cannon herself after what Iliana had seen so far. Still she probably had better control of her abilities then Iliana.
ImageSylas was certain the bottle was favorable of the mindfullness of what he wanted. Normally Mason would have rubbed it off to crap but in camp where anything could happen...he couldn't. Still it was hard to fully believe. Slightly far fetched as far as bottles went and seven minutes in heaven.
"Currently my attentions have been focused on the murderer. She's so close to the edge. Just needs a little push."
Mason rubbed his head. "She's lived on the edge for a while now and nobody's blown her off." Nobody could see the monster he could. Not that Mason counted himself a saint or hero, but there was a huge denial around acknowledging Alex as one. That annoyed him more than anything.
"As for Captain Zeus..." Mason turned his gaze reluctantly to the uncharming site of Alex and Ajax coddled to each other as usual. "He looks more miserable than anything I could do. If I had to guess? There's trouble in paradise."
"Hm." Mason looked back to Andy dancing freely before sighing and running his hand through his hair. "Maybe. He's not all over her for once." That shouldn't have been an indication but sadly it was especially when contrasting the previous fire. He was literally all over her. Maybe he didn't fulfil her needs and she realized she'd always come second to Alex. It wasn't like him to be optimistic though so he didn't bother getting his hopes up, amusing as they were to think Ajax...insufficient and a bad performer.
Actually, Mason would say tension entered paradise after that night. Mason looked to his acquaintance and Sylas's eyes were still towards Alex and Ajax. He was wasting his time staring at them when there were better sights to see unless Sylas wanted to play the heartbreaker card. That'd be a shame as it'd make Mason nauseous of him for a while even when knowing it's an act.
Before he could comment, Penelope approached them and requested Sylas's presence in the closet without so much as flashing them a pretty smile. Then Sylas acted like it was a mix of pleasure and pain to be chosen for the bottle. Mason had faith that his buddy could survive the closet again.
Mason slipped on his jacket and sighed getting to his feet. He had a thought to check in on Andy and make sure she was coping but watching her with Evelyn, starting to spin the girl around suggested she was in fine enough spirits and Mason's company would only ruin that. The last exchange they had, he had the feeling she wanted nothing to do with him. Mason started looking for his troublesome blonde instead. Somebody, he could openly check out and admire without repercussions. If she wasn't in immediate sight, it was likely she was off tormenting that hair model again.
Apparently he had been standing there, drinking and looking into the fire for some time because when he spotted some movement it was Penelope and Sylas exiting the closet. Sylas shrugged causing Mason to smirk. Some bottle that knew what you wanted, hey?
Image Alex gave the death glare a break thankfully. Not that Andy seemed the least bit concerned by it but Daniel was.
"Maybe," Ajax replied in regards to leaving the camp in a state of vulnerability. Sounded like half denial to Daniel. "I trust that many of you will be able to keep the place in order while I'm gone, though, and It won't be for long. But I know for a fact who I'll leave in charge." Daniel quirked a brow and gave a drum roll for effect. "Trinity." Daniel stopped dead. Last time he checked Trinity had the strength and don't take shit attitude but that's where the "in charge" qualities ended. He even glanced to Alex questioningly to ask if her brother was fully sane and aware. "I'll ask her first, of course. I don't want to spring that responsibility onto her without giving her a choice."
Daniel nodded and laughed. Asking was a start. "A great choice if you want to have us earning our pulse every day."
"If not, then... Liam or you who are the next best options."
Daniel smirked and bowed his head grateful to be thought of no matter how deluded. "I would do the same. Six o'clock rise and shine time followed by a couple beastie conjurations. Then a small breakfast interval as reward for making it. In fact, I'll make a show of it." Daniel chuckled although the idea might have been tempting. Who didn't like a little money on the side and to play God. "Who's Liam?"
"Ya know, camp kinda sorta sucks now. Things were much simpler when it was just us around here," Daniel turned to Theo and smiled. Speaking of potential "in charge" people.
"I wouldn't say simpler."
Daniel stroked his imaginary moustache again. "Yes, you looked in a real predicament being drowned in lady companionship earlier." He chuckled but really, what was so wrong with the newer faces? He would have thought Theo joined the slightly grateful spectrum. More bodies did account for more drama and scheming though last year wasn't short of that. They should have been immune to the crap. "What does an unsucky camp even look like in the eyes of Mr. Smith?" Especially when Theo had come fresh out of being a literal stud. He had four women around him, including Cherise who Daniel stole away to the closet remorselessly. He wouldn't take it back either. Theo still had two red heads to seduce and a quiet blonde.
Since Ajax wasn't feeling chatty and fell back into doom and gloom mode, Daniel initiated conversation again. "We were previously discussing who would make a good second in command. If I had to be responsible I was thinking you," he gestured to Theo. "If I was being myself though, I'd vote for me." That was likely no surprise followed by his grin.
Then Slenderman approached, slinking in. "I believe it's your turn. Have fun," he told Alex followed by a twitch in his eye. Then he did them the great pleasure of walking away.
Daniel smiled at Alex encouragingly before looking back to Evelyn and Andy as they danced tirelessly. Daniel poked up his fingers silently counting how many people he had got to dance so far. "You know this is supposed to be a party. Why don't you fellas get off your butts and make some girl's night by asking her to dance? You too, Alex." Whatever their poor or selfish excuses, Daniel didn't care to hear that kind of negativity. 'I don't feel like it, boohoo. I'm too cool, therefore everybody else should be as bored out of their mind as I am.'
Ajax or Theo could easily have a little boogey with Alex after the closet because she was a party girl and she must have been bored to rant about a girl and guy she hardly knew and be stuck in her brother's company. Some other ginger was available and Eve, Wes, if that's who Alex preferred to dance with. There were options for the miserable sods.
Daniel made his way to Wes, Trinity and the quiet blonde. "Howdy folks. How we doing? Uh, question slash favor, Wesley." Yeah, he didn't particularly care how they were doing. There were things on his mind and the Valises hadn't given him answers. "One, I'm gonna need some love and or dating updates because I am super confused." He took his place beside Wes on the log. "Like, do Slenderman and red have a thing, do Alex and 'Pete' have a thing? I'm super behind in the goss. And, uh two, if I had to do a Freddy Krueger conjuration, who would fare better between these two lovely ladies?" He pointed between the two girls then nudged Trinity. "Hi, by the way. Good to see you too."
He chuckled then held up his hands in surrender, mostly for the girl he didn't yet know. "I would never do that. To a stranger. Probably."
Daniel smacked Wes's human shoulder. "But, look at you, do you feel like a bad ass? You look like one. Just get you some sunglasses, have you say 'I'll be back' and we have a terminator." He laughed again, then leaned towards Wes like revealing a secret. "I was going to borrow your girlfriend for a dance but I understand if you'd be intimidated. I'm no son of Aphrodite but the charm's there when we're dancing. If you don't go all Magic Mike in front of these girls, there's a chance somebody else will." It was unlikely Theo or Ajax would approach Trinity but there was a chance like he said. Daniel winked to urge Wes to make his move. Through all the taunting there were good intentions.
Both the girls looked like they needed something invigorating in their night again. Daniel patted the spot next to him for the young girl that remained standing with a smile.
Eve ignored Trinity’s rough man handling and threats, refusing to rise to the bait she even smiled politely as Trinity stole Wes away. Without her influencing magic she wasn’t batting too well, and there were better people to mess with anyway. You know people who didn’t possess the ability to put her in a shallow grave. As she watched them walk over the closet together she had the fleeting thought that those two crazy kids might just work out.
Eve considered going to bother Mason as that always seemed to put her in a good mood. One glance his way though and she changed her mind. Usually she’d find the idea of messing with him while he ogled Andy across the dance floor quite enjoyable, but not tonight. Watching it just made her annoyed.
Pouring herself another drink, Eve found herself with incredible timing as Liam presented the meek brunette that had barnacled herself to his side all night with a drink. Going so far as to proclaim it, “Sex on the beach.”
Putting down the bottle she was pouring from, she placed a hand on the table and used it to lean across to the duo. “God, I’d die for some,” She put on her best sultry voice making sure the innuendo was clear, Liam didn’t seem the he did well with subtle. Eve let her eyes wander over him, obviously checking him out. This was going to be a great test of this fledgling relationship, though considering Liam’s first words to Eve had been ‘nice tits’ she didn’t think luring him away was going to be tricky.
When Sloane coughed her way through a compliment about the drink, Eve swiped up a napkin and handed it over to her. She was about to delve into a story about the first time she’d ever had vodka, which ended with her vomiting in her step-mother’s handbag. However before she could begin, she caught Mason’s eye from where he stood by the fire. She turned back to Liam and Sloane, her eyes lingering on Liam’s body a moment longer than appropriate, a practiced move on her part. “I’ll catch you later maybe?”
She headed over to Mason with a fresh drink in hand. “You know you’re allowed to approach me first?” Eve seemed to be the one always instigating things, even now, he’d looked for her, but she’d been the one to come for him. It wasn’t like he was shy. “I was kidding about the getting attached thing.” She smirked over the rim of her drink before raising one shoulder in a half-hearted, playful shrug. “Mostly.”
After downing half her drink in one mouthful, she glanced over her shoulder where Andy still danced and sighed. A guy like Mason fawning over a girl like her, it was a cliché. With a grin, she ran a hand up on to Mason’s shoulder and rose onto her tippy toes so she could stage whisper, “I think you might be the one most in danger of trying to poke the bear.” It was an immature innuendo, but as Eve rocked back on her heels she had to fight to keep a laugh or grin bubbling out of her. Her eyes lit up in amusement. “Do you get it?”
Now it was time for question she’d woken up with this morning, not important enough to interrupt closet time, but now seemed like as good a time as any. “So, I have a question for you. With your dad,” She wrinkled up her nose and glanced over to where Alex was with her circle of friends, “you know. Do you have to go to the underworld to step in?”
“And then follow up question,” Eve wound a lock of her hair around her index finger, glancing up at Mason from under her lashes with a coy smile. Deliberately crossing the line from pleading girl to caricature of a pleading girl in the hopes of getting a laugh and winning him over just slightly. “Can I come with you?”
Pete with a lazy hand shoved into his pocket wandered on after Rae, letting her lead the way. He didn’t stop to give his farewells to anyone, he was fairly certain his presence wasn’t even noticed, let alone going to be missed. So used to his own company, and peaceful silence, he didn’t notice that they weren’t talking, or perhaps that they should be. Not until Rae took it upon herself to break it and speak out into the night. "So, did you tell me your name? Oh, and parentage. I'm new here, as you probably know, and I'm just a little bit curious to know. Not that you are required to tell me anything, of course."
It was dark, but Pete didn’t miss her curious gaze raking him over, which he responded to with a raised eyebrow. He had no idea what she was looking for with that uncertain look, she hadn’t seemed uncertain about anything else up to this point. Perhaps she was just checking that he definitely hadn’t miraculously turned into a 6’5 stud on the way up from the beach. He shrugged and squinted out into the darkness. “If I don’t want to say something, I won’t.” She should know that straight up, coercion doesn’t play well with him.
He was trying to remember what her original question was, but apparent he’d taken too long. "I'll start. I'm a daughter of Artemis. I'm pretty simple, I think. I don't like surprises, appreciate the blunt truth, and can't form secure and genuine attachments, which means less work and worry for you." Rae paused, and Pete opened his mouth to say something, the way normal conversations worked, but she just started up again. "But I love to cuddle, so if you stay the night then you're going to have to deal with that. I'm not sure why, but I am sure a lot of it has to do that men are just... warm. I'm always cold."
He nodded a few times, and blinked very slowly that was a lot to take in on a first… whatever this was. He could have attempted to take it all in, or even fill her in on the fact that she had just been flirting with her very own half-brother. Instead Pete just responded to the one thing he felt qualified to, “Blunt truth. I’m good at that.” They settled into silence again and Pete realised after what was probably too long, that he had even answered her original question, her little tirade had distracted him. “Pete. Hera is my,” He rubbed a hand through his hair, mother had never been the right word to describe the relationship. “Whatever.”
Eventually, with a little Artemis magic, Rae brought them up the steps of her cabin. He paused on the last step when a wooden raven caught his eye. He reached up and gently touched one of the moons encircling it, Rae had only arrived today and the first thing she thought to do was to put this up, that was telling. When he glanced up at the redhead she swinging the door open and motioning for him to go in first. "Welcome to my humble abode."
Pete raised an eyebrow with an accompanying smirk as she bolted the door closed behind her. “Locking me in already?” He asked. Then he turned to take in her cabin, which was entirely empty of possessions, and smelled slightly on cleaning products, strong ones. He wrinkled his nose, clearly she’d taken it upon herself to do some bonus cleaning, his cabin hadn’t smelt like this when he’d found it. He took off his jacket and draped it across the back of the couch as he followed Rae through to her bedroom.
He was hardly shocked to see the tangle of clothes strewn about. He’d shared rooms with Eve, and after that nothing about females had the power to shock him. Instead he leaned against the doorway with a smirk. “I thought you were prepared to bring some poor sod back home, the way you practically dragged me here.” He said, his voice holding a slight teasing tone, which was as playful as he really got. He enjoyed the view as she was bent over, kicking the bag under the bed. A nice, sweet guy would have offered to help.
From his place in the doorway, his eyes tracked Rae’s movement towards the bathroom. "Make yourself comfortable. I think I have sand in my unmentionables, so I'm hopping in the shower.” Pete bit his bottom lip and looked toward the open bathroom door, weighing up exactly how comfortable to make himself. Then her head and spiraling red hair popped back out for a quick moment, “Coming? Because it doesn't matter what you did on the beach - there is always sand in all the wrong places."
Pete gazed over at the bathroom for long enough that he heard the unmistakable hiss of hot water as she started up the shower. Unable to do anything but comply, Pete lazily wandered after Rae, striping off his shirt as he went. Once he made sure he got a good, long look at Rae, his pants and everything else would follow his shirt before he joined her in the steamy shower. If cuddly was the worst thing she got during the night, he’d stick around.
Liam didn't look thrilled at her comment. Sloane diverted her gaze to the drink she held. She felt like a burden to him. She obviously wasn't the type of person he usually spent his time with. And although she enjoyed her time with him... more than she'd care to admit. She didn't expect him to spend every moment with her.
"God, I’d die for some," Eve's voice broke the awkward silence. The blonde was leaning over the table toward both of them, but her comment wasn't for Sloane and she wasn't shy about checking out Liam.
Sloane could feel whatever part of her that had broken out of its shell curling in on itself. She was becoming invisible again like she was before, but this time it was different. This wasn't her choice but a clear neglect of her presence by others. Whatever kind of confidence or openness she might have shown with her posture dissipated. Her shoulders curved forward slightly as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Liam returned the favor of letting his gaze drink in all of Eve's appearance. The girl dressed revealing enough so it didn't take much imagination to guess how the rest of her looked. All the while, Sloane tried her best not to look as uncomfortable as she felt, even forcing herself to take another sip of the cocktail. Although whatever part of her that tried to like it in the beginning was gone, this second drink quickly began to turn her stomach.
"All you need to do is ask, you know," Liam replied. His voice was different, different than it ever was with her. It made Sloane tense. On the outside she looked calm and collected, but inside it took extreme focus to hide her thoughts... and disappointment.
But whatever facade she had up fell when Liam grabbed a handful of Eve's hair and pulled her closer. "I don't think you want to keep teasing me, minx. You might regret it later when I finally get tired of it and actually just do all of the things that I know you're wanting me to do." It was a whisper, but Sloane wasn't far enough away and she heard it all. She swallowed, trying to look away but she couldn't. The whole mating ritual unfolded in front of her as if the rest of camp... and herself, couldn't see it.
She felt like centuries passed before Liam released his hold on Eve. Sloane didn't realize until that moment that she was holding her breath, inhaling sharply. "I’ll catch you later maybe?"
And then the blonde left... And Liam watched her. That was until his gaze fell back on Sloane who stood silent and stoic where they had left her. Yes, she was still there. Funny how easily she could become invisible, even to those she thought might have cared. "I swear to god if she teases me one more time..." He broke the silence with a huff. If he was trying to back pedal, he failed.
Sloane had nothing to say. She only blamed herself. This is what she deserved for getting even a little attached to the only person who spared her more than a moment or two. Liam tip toed around her like she was made of porcelain when it was obvious he needed someone of iron. He remained around her out of obligation or perhaps hopes of getting her in bed. Either way, she betrayed her secluded nature with him and now she was paying the price.
She looked up at Liam letting her gaze linger for a moment. Then the corners of her mouth pulled into a tight smile. Not a friendly one, but the kind you give a coworker in passing out of politeness and nothing more. She gently set the glass down upon the table, still fairly full of the drink he made her. Then Sloane just walked away. She could have rejoined the party, taken a seat around the circle, but why? Who was she kidding? She had no friends. Just a horny body guard and an asshole brother. And she had enough of both of them for the day.
So, without looking back at anyone, not Liam and especially not her brother, Sloane left the party. She didn't waste her time walking on the trails back towards the cabins. But once Liam's place came into view, she temporarily froze where she stood, closing her eyes. Her mouth tensed as she tried to repress any thoughts or feelings she had and took a deep breath. Gods was she stupid. Sloane made a mental note that she had obviously out stayed her welcome and would need to find a new living arrangement in the morning. Her presence was only a hinderance.
Sloane made her way up the porch and opened the door, only to be greeted by the excited puppy. Rocco actually made her smile... just a little. No matter how upset anyone was, it always seemed that animals could bring out a little happiness. Plus, if she was going to leave, who knows the next time she'd see the little guy. She grabbed the dog's leash and hooked it to his collar. Then she took a seat on one of the steps, letting the puppy run around, playing with sticks and digging in the dirt. It was better than sitting in that cabin alone. And if Liam returned with a slutty blonde in tow, she'd have enough warning to disappear rather than deal with another awkward encounter.
Evelyn let them dance, for a time, in silence. But eventually that too came to an end. "So, aside from me of course, who would you prefer as your dancing partner tonight? You might need to use them." The red head then raised her brows. Well, they couldn't dance forever, Andy knew that and it seemed this particular dance was about to come to an end by the suggestion of her comment. "Alternatively, of course, you could use your imagination." Evelyn then smirked.
Andy sighed softly. That question caused far more internal dilemma than it should have. It should have been an easy answer. Ajax. They were on a break, yes. But to most people at camp they were still together. But she couldn't bring herself to say it... or anything, not for a long moment. She cleared her throat, running her fingers back through her hair as she diverted her gaze. "Someone I shouldn't dance with," was all she said, her tone slightly serious. But before too much could be made of her comment, she quickly followed it up. "My stupid brother," she joked with a playful laugh.
Then Evelyn nodded her head towards the water as a silent gesture to say she was leaving. Andy didn't stop her, instead raising her beer in a toast to a new friend before the girl left. On any other day, she would have been content dancing by herself. But, anytime alone meant time alone with her thoughts. So, she snatched up her sandals that she ditched some time ago and scanned what campers remained at the party.
Andy finished her drink and then slowly started toward the bonfire, rejoining the rest of the party. Her mind started to wonder slightly as her steps were slow, letting her toes drag and wiggle in the sand. She hadn't quite realized where they were leading her until she looked up and saw that she was walking straight toward Mason. Andy had no desire to talk to him. Or did she? Apparently her feet had another thought considering they carried her in his direction. But he didn't want to speak to her and if he did it'd only be more hurtful words and judgement. Either way, her gaze fell to the detestable blonde beside him, snapping her out of it. ANdy quickly looked away and diverted her path toward the first person she saw, Daniel.
"He's a modern-day Disney Princess. We actually met similarly. Post minotaur taming." Wes laughed at the comment while nodding his head in agreement. She wasn't wrong. Trinity then stood up and offered a hand toward Iliana in a friendly greeting, far friendlier than he was used to see from the daughter of Ares. His smile only grew at the sight. "I promise I'll be gentle," she added and winked playfully. Surprisingly, Iliana actually took Trinity's hand and shook it. A friendly proper introduction. How often did that happened at camp?
Then Iliana took her time, typing up a response to his question about the party before revealing what she wrote. "It's been fine so far. I am concerned for a new friend of mine. As far as the closet goes, I have no expectations since I generally am not the party type."
Wes's brows furrowed at her first comment as he gently crossed his arms over his chest. "I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as this friend isn't like a child of Aphrodite," he laughed at his own joke. "There is a good chance they can kick ass and hold their own. Fights are pretty common here, but it just lets people get it out of their system... Usually." Then he shrugged slightly. "As for the closet you can always just talk with whoever is in there. And if they try anything you don't want knock an S.O.S. on the door and I'll send Trinity in to kick their ass." He motioned toward the feisty blonde with his thumb, giving her a cheeky grin.
"So what's with the secret code messaging? Are you sick?" Trinity asked.
"I can't speak so I have other ways of talking. I am hoping to find my voice again though at this camp."
"Well, if I see a sketchy looking sea witch with a shell necklace on, I'll let you know," Wes jested, laughing at his own terrible joke.
Then Trinity asked about Iliana's parentage, a question that Wes wasn't even sure if he asked about or not. Maybe he did? Or didn't? Either way he didn't remember. "My mother is Demeter. I have a hard time controlling my powers since their linked to my emotions. I am hoping to learn to control them better. Maybe you can help me? You're Ares's daughter right? You mentioned it during the trial. I know I can be strong with my divine abilities, but I am still recovering from something over a year ago, so I am not emotionally stable yet."
And then there was a smack to Wes's shoulder. He pivoted slightly to be met by Keith? "Howdy folks. How we doing? Uh, question slash favor, Wesley." He raised his brows curious as to the nature of this favor. "One, I'm gonna need some love and or dating updates because I am super confused. Like, do Slenderman and red have a thing, do Alex and 'Pete' have a thing? I'm super behind in the goss. And, uh two, if I had to do a Freddy Krueger conjuration, who would fare better between these two lovely ladies?" He then nudged Trinity. "Hi, by the way. Good to see you too." Daniel then held up his hands in surrender. "I would never do that. To a stranger. Probably."
Wes's jaw dropped slightly in confusion. What was going on? Was this Daniel? Sure was acting like Daniel. But last time he checked he was some awkward nerdy dude called Keith. "Woah woah. Ok. Hold on just a minute. I'm confused," Wes interrupted the brunette's ramblings to try and get some sort of answers.
And like a saving grace, Andy arrived creating quite the group out of them, sneaking up to stand on the other side of Daniel. "I'm guessing he didn't tell you, that he's 'back,'" she said making air quotes with her fingers. She then patted her brother on the back giving a smug, slightly annoyed smile. "He's not very good at the whole easing people into letting them know it's him.
Wes nodded his head slightly showing some semblance of understanding at whatever in the hell was going on. Then Daniel went on talking again with another smack to his shoulder. "But, look at you, do you feel like a bad ass? You look like one. Just get you some sunglasses, have you say 'I'll be back' and we have a terminator." He laughed at his own joke, a thought that definitely crossed his mind. "I was going to borrow your girlfriend for a dance but I understand if you'd be intimidated. I'm no son of Aphrodite but the charm's there when we're dancing. If you don't go all Magic Mike in front of these girls, there's a chance somebody else will."
"Has anyone ever told you that you talk... a lot?" At Wes's comment Andy burst out in laughter. She quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth but he could still hear her muffled giggles. "And if you want to dance with Trinity, then ask her." He smiled as he spared Trinity a glance. He wasn't her keeper and he had no right to tell her what she could and couldn't do. If she wanted to dance with Daniel, then she was more than welcome to. "Yeah," he added with a shake of his head and a laugh. "There's only one person I'd strip for and that's a private show."
“I can't speak so I have other ways of talking. I am hoping to find my voice again though at this camp.”
“Like a military pledge?” she asked while Wes stuck to his true colours of Disney. Trinity chuckled at his comment. Finding your voice could be more than physical and literal. Likely the gentle Iliana meant it in a more metaphorical or symbolic way. Trinity wanted none of that quest and riddle nonsense, but good for her. “Here’s hoping you find it.”
The fragile thing wrote about her parentage and suggested Trinity could help her. If she was already emotionally unstable, help from an Ares kid is the last thing she needed. Trinity could give Iliana rage to smack a bitch but she wasn't patient or a trainer on helping others control their power. That was more Wes's field or Duke's...Ajax's.
Trinity picked up the beer again. Iliana didn’t expect Wes to become accompanied by a daughter of Ares and clearly she wasn’t the most comfortable, hiding behind Wes to avoid Trinity’s fiery gaze. She had half a mind to mention he wouldn’t be able to protect her from her, but a false sense of security is what people needed now and then. Not to mention she had so many concerns for somebody who can't speak. How were they to know when she was in trouble?
Not long after, Daniel or the guy like him approached. “Howdy folks. How we doing? Uh, question slash favor, Wesley.” God, this new guy is a douche.
“One, I'm gonna need some love and or dating updates because I am super confused.” He sat on the other side of Wes. Trinity frowned but turned towards Wes also willing to get the updates. More to see his powers in action and hear his love radar/opinions than actually care for who wanted to bang who. Genuine feelings rarely existed.“Like, do Slenderman and red have a thing, do Alex and 'Pete' have a thing? I'm super behind in the goss. And, uh two, if I had to do a Freddy Krueger conjuration, who would fare better between these two lovely ladies?”
Something switched on in Trinity then. It wasn't rage related either. “Hi, by the way. Good to see you too.” Daniel said followed by a nudge. He then tried to play half innocent with Iliana.
What the hell? Andy appeared by his side. “I'm guessing he didn't tell you, that he's 'back.' He's not very good at the whole easing people into letting them know it's him,” Andy said.
With the confirmation there, she pushed Daniel behind Wes's back, though her limbs struggled to make the distance, she was sure to get her shove in and use Wes as a brace to keep her balance. “You're an ass. You could have said something earlier.” She huffed out and shook her head. As per usual, she was the last to know shit.
He carried on without missing a beat talking to Wes about his arm. Trinity took the moment to look back to Iliana. “That's Hecate's son. We call him Daniel but gods know these days. He has a weird thing for conjuring horror icons or killer creatures just in case you hear any bumps in the night.”
Trinity then looked at Andy and smiled tightly. Call her crazy but she didn't seem 100% happy to have Dan back.
She had another sip when she overheard the boys. “I was going to borrow your girlfriend for a dance but I understand if you'd be intimidated. I'm no son of Aphrodite but the charm's there when we're dancing. If you don't go all Magic Mike in front of these girls, there's a chance somebody else will.”
They were literally one person away. Trinity rose a brow. “Has anyone ever told you that you talk... a lot?” Trinity smiled a little. Yeah, the guy was relentless but he probably just missed being a camp nuisance. “And if you want to dance with Trinity, then ask her.” Trinity returned his smile although the moment his eyes were elsewhere it dropped.
So Wes wouldn't dance with her? Trinity wasn't a dancer or the first to jump on the dancefloor or piece of sand or whatever but sometimes it really was the thought that counted. Which was absolutely fucking pathetic. Trinity knocked down her drink for even having the thought. “Yeah,” he continued with a laugh. “There's only one person I'd strip for and that's a private show.”
She drew the bottle away from her lips to drop off a comment of her own. “Iliana's a lucky girl.” Trinity took another swig with a smirk looking at Wes. “Since when have you turned all a private showman, anyway? You got nothing to hide.” Trinity tapped his abs that she had seen on an occasion or two. He was packing some good stuff under those clothes and never been shy about showing his body before. And if anyone were going to go all stripper in this joint, it'd be Wes.
The bottle automatically came to her lips. Again, she had to draw away for a breath. She swirled around the alcoholic content before looking to Daniel. “Not at the moment, Daniel, sorry,” she said in case he did actually ask to her face if she wanted to dance. “You know I'm just afraid we'll dance and I'll fall hard and fast for you.”
She got to her feet once more and stretched out which lifted her top slightly in turn as somebody decided to untuck her. She perched a foot on the log instead, leaning on her leg with her arms crossed over her knee looking at Wes expectantly. Trinity loved the potential of his powers but it didn't look like he wanted to play love doctor today or show pony.
“I saw you not long had a spin and it landed on Sylas. Was that fun for you? It must've been some meeting.”
Sylas being brought up then reminded Heath of something. Sylas and Evelyn had been speaking with each other when he arrived at the party that evening. Nelly had remembered that also. It was a good thing she had an excellent memory.
"It was interesting to say the least. He touched me at times, but I found it to be very ticklish. Heck I don't think I even played the game right because he then backed off. I know I am a talker, so maybe I talked too much. It wouldn't surprise me if I bored him though." Nelly replied, a look for hurt on her face.
She never wanted to be boring and the idea that she might have bored someone didn't sit well with her. Not wanting to dwell on it though, she turned back to Evelyn.
"He mentioned he was Nemesis's son though and implied that it wasn't luck that the bottle landed on him. Now whether or not he was lying is another question. I am very curious to find out what kind of person he's like because he's very secretive."
There she goes again, saying things at the top of her head in front of strangers. She was really bad at keeping her mouth shut, but she didn't show any reaction to her social blunder. However, these people seemed okay, especially if Heath was Athena's son.
Nelly's words had Ethan and Heath share a look. Heath knew one of the abilities Nemesis was good was casting blessings and curses. For some reason though, Heath couldn't picture Sylas being Nemesis's son, for one major reason- if the bottle had been cursed, it would have landed on someone people didn't like, but if it was blessed, it would add up to why it landed on people others were on good terms with. However, Nelly was a wild card, and a new arrival. Why she would want to spend time with Sylas, Heath just couldn't figure it out.
Soon Evelyn turned back to Ethan and says, “That makes you the odd one out. If you could choose, which demigod would you be stuck in your nightmare with? I would hunch either Heath here as you seem close. Or a child of Apollo to try to bring some light in there at least.”
That made Ethan think a bit.
"It would be less of a nightmare if the closet was bigger. Hmm, think if I asked Andy nicely, she'd allow me to expand her closet more? But to answer your question, Evelyn, yeah Heath or his adopted sister would be the most likely options since I know them the best. But I am like Nelly here too in the sense that I want to meet as many campers as possible. You have yet to be in the closet yourself, so I'd probably would want it to be you too since you haven't played yet. Or are you even interested in playing those kind of games?"
Ethan already thought Evelyn liked playing mind games, with what she had said to Heath prior to Nelly showing up. Heath had remember her words too and would eventually answer her question about his 'politeness'. She definitely had some intellect, especially when she asked what they valued. She was honest about valuing knowledge. Before he could answer though, Nelly spoke up.
"Oh! I value my independence the most. I hate feeling caged in."
Heath grinned at her before turning to Evelyn and replying, "If we're talking about tangible things, it be myself and my friends and family. Intangible, it's a tie between balance and the truth. Also, you mentioned I was either lying myself or being fake with my formalities. I hate lying so I didn't lie, but I was automatic in my delivery of saying 'nice to meet you'. You want my honest thoughts Evelyn? I personally don't like it when you accuse me of lying when you yourself lied about Hera being your mother. And I wonder why you did it to begin with. Was it to test if I had my mother's skills? While I do have my mother's skill for picking up lies, I am no where near as experienced as she is."
Wanting to help his friend out, Ethan spoke up too.
"Uh, Evelyn, I am to blame for Heath being polite. I was raised in the Southern US and manners have been drilled into me since I can remember so I've been trying to get Heath to be polite more. It never occurred to me that someone might find politeness offensive."
Nelly just watches their banter in fascination. She had seen that Sloane and the muscled guy she had been with leave. Well, so much for her original plan. She'd find out about Sylas sooner or later.
Wesley told her not to worry about her friend that much. Easier said then done. Looked like Cherise was right about one thing, Iliana did get concern about others too much. But that was one aspect of her she doubt would ever change because of the fact that she was empathetic. His SOS comment almost got a smile out of her, but her eyes did light up a bit. His next comment after she told Trinity about her muteness confused her a lot. Sea witch? It never occurred to her that he was referencing a Disney movie. People would be shocked to know that she never watched movies. She was too 'old fashion'. If she wasn't outside, she was either training or reading. She actually had a bit of a culture shock when she first went to college. Thankfully, Trinity telling her she hoped she found her voice though had Iliana turning back and nodding.
Before Trinity could say anything about her question, Keith shows up and started saying things that take Iliana aback. He was talking too fast for her to get everything, but the things he did say confused her as much as before when he talked with Heath. Then Andy showed up and seemed to explain things, at least to Trinity and Wesley for their feelings of confusion were soon replaced by others. Try as she might, she was still confused, so much so she didn't know she had been brought up a few times. How could 'Daniel' be back? Now she wished she knew how Daniel wasn't Keith anymore. Maybe she should ask Cherise to see if she knew since the two of them had been in the closet. She could always ask Heath to see if he found out anything. She could just ask the people here though. Wanting get some kind of answer before there was anymore dancing, she let out a shrill whistle to get the four people's attention, meaning Trinity, Wes, Daniel, and Andy. Seeing them looking at her, she wrote down her words quickly.
~Can someone please explain to me what the deal is with this Daniel here? I thought his name was Keith? Was that a lie? What do you mean he's back? I am sorry, I am just so confused right now and it's driving me nuts here.~
Image Daniel rose a brow waiting for an answer that never came. Apparently his questions though pretty straight forward confused the likes of Wes. Aphrodite's son had zero gossip to share. He needed a sister in camp.
"I'm guessing he didn't tell you, that he's 'back,'" Andy said. She patted his back and her smile accompanied so many messages. "He's not very good at the whole easing people into letting them know it's him."
Trinity reached around Wes and shoved him causing him to cackle.
As they all knew, he was a quick recoverer and keen to catch up with Wes. "Has anyone ever told you that you talk... a lot?" he replied. Andy laughed and Daniel smiled. "And if you want to dance with Trinity, then ask her." Daniel pursed his lips. He gave the guy a perfect opening to take the blonde away and woo her and he blew it. "Yeah," Wes added with a laugh. "There's only one person I'd strip for and that's a private show."
Daniel nodded rapidly. He completely believed that too.
“Iliana's a lucky girl.” Trinity beat him to a retort. “Since when have you turned all a private showman, anyway? You got nothing to hide.”
The woman had half a point. And was out drinking them all under a table. Just as he peered around to her, she answered. “Not at the moment, Daniel, sorry. You know I'm just afraid we'll dance and I'll fall hard and fast for you.”
He tapped over his heart and bowed his head forgivingly. "I understand." The whole heartbroken but soldier act let Daniel see Mason and the blonde he had met earlier. Even his buddy had a girlfriend now or hook up gal. Nobody thought that was different or worth explaining? Then again Andy didn't even tell him Ajax and she broke up. Theo was right, the camp sucked now. Nobody knew how to answer questions or endure a party it seemed.
Before he could question, again, what was going on, the quiet one released a shrill whistle. Can someone please explain to me what the deal is with this Daniel here? I thought his name was Keith? Was that a lie? What do you mean he's back? I am sorry, I am just so confused right now and it's driving me nuts here.
He sighed out. While a fair group of people were around he might as well have addressed the elephant on the beach but the brief version, no throwing rocks at people or Gods. "Think of it as a split personality. Keith was here, now he's not," he told her. Daniel looked at the seasoned campers and clapped his hands together. Still not a good enough explanation he was willing to bet. But he didn't want to talk death at a beach party. Why couldn't he just enjoy himself for a day?
"Forgive me for not wanting to waste time now I'm finally me again. I think as a rule...as hard and confusing as it is on all of you...until another identity is implanted in your minds, you don't talk about how I should behave. Or, how nuts it drives you guys." He smiled sarcastically. Daniel didn't doubt it was hard for Andy and confusing for others. But screw easing into his own skin again for his peers' benefit. How was he supposed to ease people into it anyway? Say he was Daniel 50 times and actually an extrovert?
That was as serious as Daniel was going to get on the topic for now. But Keith and Daniel, very different guys. If his fellow camp buddies were smarter or more adaptable, it wouldn't be a problem. Evelyn took it like a trooper, Cherise accepted it, Mason and Alex were even welcoming of it. Why couldn't the rest just be happy and live in the moment? Daniel rubbed his head and walked away from the group. "See you later," he mumbled as he left.
Wes laughed and gladly shifted forward for Trinity to reach around behind him and shove Daniel. His own hand held her frame slightly to help keep her balance as she struggled a bit to make her arm reach the distance. The personality shifting son of Hecate nodded his head quickly at his comment about only stripping for one person. And, of course, Trin had something to add. "Iliana's a lucky girl." The blonde smirked toward him. Wes rolled his eyes and shook his head with a smile. "Since when have you turned all a private showman, anyway? You got nothing to hide." His gaze fell slightly when she tapped his abdomen.
He gently took ahold of Trinity's finger with his real hand and chuckled. "You know who I meant," Wes corrected her with a slight smile. "And we both know you don't like to share. I think you'd smother me with clothes once I got past my shirt." His grin only grew at the comment, giving her a playful nudge with his shoulder.
"Not at the moment, Daniel, sorry. You know I'm just afraid we'll dance and I'll fall hard and fast for you," she then replied to Daniel's offer for a dance.
"I understand." Daniel tapped his heart and bowed his head.
Trinity then stood up and put her foot on the log where she was sitting. Her gaze was on him expectantly which caused him to raise a brow curiously. Wes adjusted how he sat slightly, letting his finger tips brush against her calf lightly. It was a brief touch. He couldn't help but smirk, looking up at her from the corner of his eyes. Before he could do it again a whistle cut through the noise of the small group. He jumped slightly, like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar, withdrawing his touch from Trin's leg.
Wes looked over in the direction the sound came from, surprised to see it was Iliana. He didn't know the girl was capable of any noise, let alone one that loud. "Can someone please explain to me what the deal is with this Daniel here? I thought his name was Keith? Was that a lie? What do you mean he's back? I am sorry, I am just so confused right now and it's driving me nuts here."
"Think of it as a split personality. Keith was here, now he's not," Daniel answered the question with a vague comment. Wes nodded his head in appreciation of the answer. But he felt someone curious like Iliana might not be satisfied with such a vague response. "Forgive me for not wanting to waste time now I'm finally me again. I think as a rule...as hard and confusing as it is on all of you...until another identity is implanted in your minds, you don't talk about how I should behave. Or, how nuts it drives you guys... See you later." He then turned and left the group.
Wes sighed, looking down. He didn't mean to upset Daniel, nor did he think anyone else did. But he didn't think he should be the one to chase after him. Luckily, as if she was on the same wavelength, Andy followed after Daniel. She was probably the safest bet to talk to him. That then left Wes with Trinity and Iliana once again. He tried his best to smile before looking between the girls.
"Does this camp ever have... normal days?" Wes asked rhetorically as he looked over at Trinity. He didn't whisper the question or anything but he directed it a little more toward Trin since she had been there even longer than himself. It probably didn't paint the best image for Iliana who had only been there a couple days. But it was a sad truth about the place.
At one point during the rapid fire conversation Andy caught a glimpse of Trinity who looked straight at her. The blonde gave a tight smile, like she knew that something was going on in her head even though she didn't say anything. Andy gave a similar smile in return but said nothing. Instead she remained more of a spectator as Trinity and Wes came to terms with Daniel being back.
Then there was a high pitch whistle that made Andy's face scrunch up. Was that necessary? She looked over at the culprit, like the rest of them, to be met by the screen of a tablet. "Can someone please explain to me what the deal is with this Daniel here? I thought his name was Keith? Was that a lie? What do you mean he's back? I am sorry, I am just so confused right now and it's driving me nuts here."
Andy didn't know why, but it seemed her patience with nosey campers was growing thin that night. Maybe it was her protectiveness over Daniel now that he was back. But she said nothing, instead chewing on the inside of her cheek quietly. "Forgive me for not wanting to waste time now I'm finally me again. I think as a rule...as hard and confusing as it is on all of you...until another identity is implanted in your minds, you don't talk about how I should behave. Or, how nuts it drives you guys... See you later." And then he left.
She sighed, raising her right hand to pinch the bridge of her nose. "Damn it," Andy huffed under her breath. She didn't mean to upset him or anything. She let Daniel head off a bit before she turned and followed after him. Her steps were quicker than his so it didn't take her long to catch up with him, gently placing her hand on his shoulder. "Daniel, wait." Andy wasn't going to force him to stop, but hoped he wouldn't fight her.
Once he slowed down, she walked around him until they were face to face. Thankfully, no one else followed after them. Andy wanted a moment with Daniel without others hovering around asking questions or whatever else. "Look... I'm sorry." She sighed, slowly dropping her hand from his shoulder. "I'm happy you're back. Truly. I just..." Her voice trailed off as she squinted her eyes trying to find the way to explain how she felt. "It's very overwhelming," she finally said with a weak laugh.
Andy shifted her weight from one foot to another. "Your death changed me. I don't know what mom told you... But I tried so hard to save you. I let her take you away, hoping that her being a God was your best chance at survival. And then she showed up the next day, telling me you were dead." She cleared her throat, looking down at the ground as she tried not to let her emotions get the better of her. "I never got to see you again. All I had was this." Her right hand tugged a chain around her neck, pulling off the locket that was hidden beneath her shirt. She then took Daniel's hand and placed the necklace in his palm.
After a long moment, she inhaled deeply through her nose before speaking once again. "If you want to know what happened while you were gone I'll tell you. All of it." Andy gently took his arm, giving it a gentle tug. She led them over to a farther end of the beach where no one would bug them or eaves drop. Then she told Daniel everything. Every single detail that happened over the past year, stuff he'd want to know... Some stuff he wouldn't, like her night with Ajax. Then there was the trials, the fights, the romances. But then her words started to falter when she focused more on her own life, in particular the past couple days.
"You're return just happened at a time where I am not even remotely emotionally stable." Andy laughed at her own misery. At least she had that going for her. She ran her hand back through her hair and scratched her head. "Ajax asked for a break... Because I am conflicted." She didn't know how else to word it, but her gaze drifted off in the direction of Mason in time to see him kiss Eve's neck. Andy inhaled sharply, quickly looking away as she clenched her jaw. She took a moment to calm herself before looking back toward her brother. "That's everything," she crossed her heart with her right index finger and smiled.
Then as if a large red target was painted on her back, Sylas seemed to miraculously appear, joining the two of them. Andy nearly cursed under her breath at his arrival. How much had he heard? That's all she needed was him taking her words and whispering them to Mason like a snake.
"Evening," Sylas said with a smile, raising his glass in a greeting toward Andy and Daniel. "I don't believe we've met. I'm Sylas," he said to Daniel, offering him his hand in a polite greeting. Honestly, he had no real meaning behind him crashing the sibling bonding moment... beyond perhaps ruffling Andy's feathers a bit. He liked to see what the feisty girl had up her sleeve and what about her drove Mason mad.
Before Daniel could reply she sighed and spoke up. "He's Mason's new friend... And broke my nose during capture the flag." She looked between her brother and himself, giving her best smile.
"Still upset about that? It looks like it healed up nicely. Perks of being at the demigod camp." Sylas smirked, raising his glass to his lips and took a drink, before looking back toward Daniel. "Daniel...? Keith...? I bet you have an interesting story."
Andy had no reason not to like Sylas, outright at least. She didn't hear everything Liam said, but whatever had happened between them pissed off the son of Ares unlike she had ever seen. Then there was her own encounters with him. It definitely was enough for her to not to want to be overly friendly with him. That and not wanting every single thing she does being used as fuel for Mason. She hadn't noticed that her stance had shifted slightly so that she was standing partially in front of her brother. "If you're that curious, ask Mason."
Sylas smirked, tapping the side of his glass with his finger. "My my. She is a protective one, isn't she?"
Theo felt the somber mood among the trio he had approached. Alex was upset about a boy, and, although that wasn't anything new, it was much better than her being upset about all the other crap she had dealt with recently. Ajax was as brooding as ever, bearing the weight of being the leader of the camp's band of misfit demigods. Daniel was Daniel, a good thing in Theo's opinion. That mischievous confidence was back behind Daniel's eyes, and Theo realized just how much he had missed the troublemaker at camp. The son of Hecate spoke up, and Theo turned to listen to him. "Yes, you looked in a real predicament being drowned in lady companionship earlier."
Theo couldn't help but crack a smile. Daniel was unmistakably back and already throwing playful barbs int he direction of the veteran camp members. "Oh yeah, it was dreadful. Too bad for them that I don't have the taste for one night stands any more," he stole a look over his shoulder towards Trinity and Wes as he spoke before cutting his gaze to the sand. Luckily, Daniel didn't pry and decided to turn the conversation to a more serious note.
"We were previously discussing who would make a good second in command. If I had to be responsible I was thinking you," Theo looked up at him to see if Daniel was sincere. It seemed as if he was. Theo simply shrugged as Daniel spoke again, trying to catch his drunk mind up with the idea of leading the camp, "If I was being myself though, I'd vote for me."
This drew a real laugh out of Theo, "Somethings never change. Good to have you back Daniel. Camp needs just your kind of spark. Maybe it should be you."
Almost as if on cue, Daniel shot up. He had never been one to sit still for long, and he was clearly ready to get back to the festivities."You know this is supposed to be a party. Why don't you fellas get off your butts and make some girl's night by asking her to dance? You too, Alex." Theo watched as Daniel walked off. As much as he wanted to follow him, he was making a bee line straight for the group Trinity was sitting with. Theo wanted no part of that. Theo figured there wasn't much else for him to do at the party. He had made his rounds, met some people, and he wasn't planning on hitting up the closet. He nodded to Ajax and Alex, "You guys come back safe. Catch you later."
With that Theo started the trek back to his cabin, taking one last quick look towards the party. For the night, even if he was a mess himself, camp was happy and peaceful... for the most part. The boy could smile at that.
Heath and Ethan payed close attention to Evelyn and Nelly's conversation since they were talking about Sylas.
“You could always reapproach him for more talking and...touching.”
Well there was an idea, Nelly thought. Looking in his direction though, she saw him addressing Andy and another guy. Sadly if she did that now, she probably be interrupting them. If there was one thing Nelly was trying to improve on, it was her timing skills when it came to conversations. She knew she'd never be perfect, but she knew she could be better. As far as touching went, at this point she didn't care now. She was never a touchy person to begin with. She just merely thought touching was part of the game, but the game was over now so there was no bother.
After Ethan made his comment about who he'd spend this closet time with, Evelyn replied, “I appreciate the pity inclusion. There are other games I'm typically more invested in, but this one has managed to hold my attention. Add the right partner, I'm very interested in these kind of games.”
Ethan frowned at the "pity comment".
"I wasn't taking pity on you Evelyn. I just wanted to include you. Should I have a reason to pity you?"
Soon though Heath made his comment and things soon ended with Evelyn leaving them.
"She sure is something isn't she?" Ethan asked Heath once she was out of earshot.
Heath smiled and said, "It's because she likes to make you think. Definitely a complex person. You interested in her?"
"I don't know actually. I am pretty simple guy. She might suit you better though."
"Who knows, I am not looking for anyone special. Plus I don't trust Evelyn at the moment. Still it would be best to stay on her good side."
Nelly, not like being left out, soon interjected, "Hello, I am still here."
Both turned back to her and Ethan replied, "Oh dear, sorry Nelly. Heath and I are just so use to talking with each other, it's hard to remember sometimes when others are present."
"I'll say. So what is your story anyway? How do ya'll know each other? You two are definitely from different places."
"Oh that's simple. I wanted to study abroad and ended up staying with Heath after Athena's recommendation since my mother asked around."
"Cool! I love traveling myself and am a freelance photographer."
"Really? Where have you traveled to?"
"Before you two get into it, Ethan, I am going to check on Iliana."
Plus he wanted to check on a few other things, he just didn't want to leave Ethan alone. At least with Nelly here, he would be preoccupied.
"Sure thing Heath"
Nodding, Heath left to the two gingers to talk.
Iliana wasn't going to apologize for the whistle. At the same time, she wasn't intending to upset anyone either. Daniel seemed worn out though after saying, "Think of it as a split personality. Keith was here, now he's not."
Split personality? Wait, there could be another reason- amnesia. That would also explain things. Did Daniel suffer some sort of trauma for him to end up that way? Iliana could relate to that. Her current condition was a perfect example of that. Daniel's next words got her attention.
"Forgive me for not wanting to waste time now I'm finally me again. I think as a rule...as hard and confusing as it is on all of you...until another identity is implanted in your minds, you don't talk about how I should behave. Or, how nuts it drives you guys."
Oh, she knew exactly how he felt. She was totally different from who she was over a year ago. Heck, one could say she was different since her father's death. Before she could do anything else, Daniel left with Andy quickly following. She picked up Andy's anger at her and she felt awful for some reason. Sighing, Iliana turned when Wes spoke up.
"Does this camp ever have... normal days?"
The question had been directed at Trinity, so Iliana looked back at Daniel and Andy, only to see Sylas greet them. Immediately Iliana tensed up and hid behind Trinity this time. Seeing what she did, she ended up writing on her pad showed it to Trinity and Wes.
~Sylas scares me for some reason. He's hard to read.~
She couldn't say Wes didn't know her well because he did and he made her laugh, calling her out on her greed and protectiveness for him. The same thing went for how he got away with touching her calf lightly without a broken hand and just a watchful eye and sly smile from Trinity.
Iliana was the one to bring some settle to the group with a high-pitched whistle, making Trinity press her ear to her shoulder. Iliana demanded to know what the deal was with Daniel. Somewhere in her, she had the same burning question.
“Think of it as a split personality. Keith was here, now he's not,” he answered simply. Trinity awaited more. They could think of it that way sure but it didn't answer anything. Not really. “Forgive me for not wanting to waste time now I'm finally me again. I think as a rule...as hard and confusing as it is on all of you...until another identity is implanted in your minds, you don't talk about how I should behave. Or, how nuts it drives you guys.”
Trinity averted her gaze guiltily. That was the first time she saw Daniel get his back up about something and it was fair. Daniel looked a little agitated and restless then dismissed himself from the group. It wasn't long until Andy followed suit. Trinity's eyes fell on the remaining two, matching Wes's smile.
“Does this camp ever have... normal days?” Wes said more directed towards her. She smiled and shrugged innocently. He'd been there for a year now, he knew what to expect of camp.
“You know this is actually a pretty good normal day margin. Considering the other days we've had.” Trinity looked to Iliana when she noticed the girl shifting behind her. Usually the comforting was best left to Wes but why not slip in some assurance. Iliana already came to Wes asking if he was still mad or upset, obviously, she was quite the sensitive soul. “Daniel will be fine and if he holds some grudge, he'll just conjure a killer in your cabin to get even.” Well, at least that was an assurance to Trinity. No bad blood; she hurt his feelings so he hurt her. All was square.
That was when the pad came forth again. Sylas scares me for some reason. He's hard to read.
She looked at Wes for help. Trinity's opinion and solution were a little too instinctual so she let the voice of reason step in. For a bit anyway. She never was the kind to bite her tongue. Trinity grabbed Iliana's arm to have her undivided attention. “Do not let him see your fear. That douche is a leech, nothing more. Don't give him an inch of satisfaction. You can crush him under your heel.”
She cleared her throat and decided on a new topic. Something slightly calmer. “You said you were Demeter's kid and your powers were linked to your emotions. So when you're sad or angry they just come out?” A lack of control obviously wasn't ideal but at least Trinity knew when they needed Iliana's powers, she could give the girl some rage for motivation. “Demeter's pretty nature-based right?”
Somehow, she didn't think talking about using Iliana's mother's gifts for battle or torture would go over well and Trinity quit while she was ahead. It almost sounded like some normal questions and general curiosity. But Wes probably knew better.
Rae quickly cleared any confusion he might have had about her intentions and only added to it. "Yes, the drying out of my lady-parts is really depending on this conversation right here and right now. I am going to get a little fussy if I don't have a man or two to keep me satisfied while I am stuck here. I find this one rather cute, but I can come back later."
Her frankness was unique and it left Duke and Alex speechless. If he weren't mistaken it left Alex with a bitter taste in her mouth. "Sure you will..." was all she said before spinning on her heel and marching off leaving Duke alone yet again.
His arms hung there lost and confused as everybody parted like the red sea from him. Eventually, when concluding there was nothing he could do, he took a stroll. It was a long enough walk, his thoughts seemingly nowhere and everywhere at once that by the time he returned a few campers had called it quits for the night
It was Alex's turn for the closet, and even though she honestly wanted to enjoy the party, part of her at this point just couldn't stop thinking about how much she blamed Andy, and much she disliked her nowadays. There were times when both of them used to get along, but since Mason came along, it all changed. Her brother told her their decision was made, and mutual, but she knew him better. He only did things to please her, so she thought, but Ajax truly wanted Andy to be happy this time.
The bottle soon landed on Duke.
Thank the gods. She would have no doubt passed it onto someone else if the bottle had landed on Sylas or Mason.
A few steps on the beach and he found the bottle pointing in his direction then looked up at Alex. There were things he'd rather be doing than wedging himself into a closet with somebody but this was apparently a definition of fun.
Alex stood up, dusting herself off before she wandered over to the closet, and once inside with those doors closed to the outside world, she felt peace for a little while until Duke joined her not long after. The closet was actually more spacious than she had imagined but still shuffled up to give him some space.
Duke crossed his arms keeping as much personal space as he could muster between them. For the moment he wasn't feeling very receptive towards the one that made him look a fool then thought she could take him away from the present company...even if the redhead was a little too expecting of Duke. In the meantime he could only stare at her, desperate to cut the present tension and clear some air but he couldn't even identify why these uneasy feelings existed between the two or what he owed her.
ImageThey both stood in silence for what seemed like the longest seconds of their lives until finally, it was broken. "Why did you do that?" she asked with a frown. He wouldn't have a clue what she meant if she left it at that, so she carried on with her words. "Why did you have to shut me down like that in front of that girl who was... Talking to you?" she held back from calling it anything else. "You've never done that to me."
Duke's eyes narrowed. "I didn't see it as shutting you out. We were talking, Alex, and the last I saw of you, you had your tongue down Pete's throat. You're better than that. So why did you do it?" Of course that was more rhetorical than him actually wanting an answer about how attractive Pete was or because she could. He didn't really care for any bratty responses and there were no good responses to give.
She looked down. Maybe he was right. Mixing with a guy like that who came off as one of the bad boys, but she just wanted to live on the edge a little, to feel something from someone else like she was more than just Ajax's little unhinged sister that had lost her way.
His hesitant hand that stroked her cheek was something she didn't expect, yet she didn't once flinch or draw away from him.
His lips pressed into a firm line, the mix of emotions she evoked in him made him contradicting. He wanted her to have fun and be herself, but he wished so desperately she didn't kiss Pete out of the blue either. Hesitantly a hand came up to stroke her cheek. She was a wild spirit, he knew that, but somewhere inside there was far more to her.
Image His touch calmed her, like a raging storm against an unsettled ocean as her eyes looked up and met his. The silence fell between them again, and before she knew it, he had stepped back letting her have her freedom.
She would never be tamable or change and that was reality.
Though with the right man, one that she could grow with and learn from... well, she would be his for as long as he wanted her.
A storm was always going to need its freedom, but once in a while, even storms settle.
"Duke, I... I'm sorry. I just..." Her head was a tornado of thoughts, her heart a blaze of warmth that still managed to stay lit within her towards those she cared about in her life, but the coldness of the dark still clung to her skin like ice, crawling its way through her veins which only her loved ones could thaw. But how could they if she just constantly pushed them away? things needed to change, or there was going to be no way of her turning back.
It was obvious that the trial hadn't fixed her completely. She needed more time to return to that girl she once was last year.
"I'll do better. I promise." she told him, hoping that he trusted her still. She was hesitant about the next choice of words, merely because she had always wanted to be able to stand on her own two feet, but everyone needs help from time to time. Even when we don't like to admit it. "Will you help me? I don't think I can do this on my own."
Looking Alex over Duke could only nod. Of course change had taken place in her and the reality was it had left a scar. He lowered his eyes. He knew Alex didn't mean to disappoint or harm others and he didn't want her being too hard on herself. "It's not about doing better Alex, I think you're incredible and have amazing potential. Everybody does but...especially you." Those kind of compliments didn't come lightly from Duke's mouth, he meant it wholeheartedly.
The corners of her lips began to lift up as she heard his words. That definitely meant a lot coming from him. Especially like that.
"I'll go to Olympus with you and Ajax, and Zeus, if he doesn't mind." Duke cracked a tight smile. It wasn't like the whole tension was completely alleviated between them but it was the beginning of getting back on track. She had asked for help and he'd try his best.
Duke allowed Alex to exit the closet first then holding the bottle around the neck, Duke approached Iliana who looked in the middle of a pep talk with Trinity and Wes. "Sorry to interrupt guys, but I believe one of you are yet to go in the closet and deserve to be included in a dreadful party game." Duke smiled holding out the bottle to Iliana.
7 minutes in heaven wasn't all awful in his kiss but typically it wasn't his game and it was meant for drama, gossip, deceit.
There was no way in the world Sloane would have been able to fall asleep, even if she wanted to. Her mind was racing with so many things. To say that her life was a whirlwind in the last 24 hours was an understatement. She took it all with a grain of salt and found herself able to breathe. But she didn't realize the new vulnerabilities that came with letting new people into her life. Liam in particular.
She didn't blame him, nor was she mad at him. Sloane had zero claim on the man and from what she had seen of him before crossing paths, he wasn't leading the race for Prince Charming. So, she shouldn't have expected any less. Regardless of what was or was not there between them, having someone she felt like she could rely on... maybe even trust was nice. She just obviously misinterpreted many things. Although Liam didn't make it any clearer when he kissed her a moment earlier.
Sloane sighed, rolling over onto her back and pinched the bridge of her nose. What in the hell was she going to do? She had no where to stay and sure as hell had zero desire to return to her brother's cabin. But before she could dwell at that fact too long, the sound of Liam's bedroom door opening caught her attention. The abrupt sound in the silence made her heart skip a beat. She pushed off the couch, lifting her torso enough so that she could peek over the back toward his door. Her body quickly sunk back into the cushions when she saw the giant lumber over toward her.
Before she had a chance to lift her feet to make room for him, Liam took ahold of her ankles gently, sitting where they once laid. Sloane had planned to withdraw her legs in toward herself, that was until he let them rest upon his lap. It was like he was trying his best not to disturb her anymore than he already had. And although there was silence between them, it wasn't awkward per se, but it wasn't exactly comfortable like their silences before were.
"You don't have to go, Sloane," he said. Liam's words sliced through the silence like butter. She found herself looking down the long couch toward him, directly into his eyes that seemed much heavier than they had previously. "I just - I can't read minds. I can't read women or hints or anything like that. I can do a lot of things, but I can't do those. I can't get my thoughts out straight or tell you how I feel, but I can try. Not that it will come out right, but I do try."
Liam's arms rested across her calves, while his leg began to bounce. But she didn't speak, afraid her own words would divert his thoughts. "You told me to mingle, but if mingling means I can't hit on other women, then you should tell me. I don't need other women."
Sloane inhaled sharply as her gaze fell to where his arms met her legs. Her own fingers tugger at the hem of her skirt as she searched for words. Why couldn't she say it? Liam sat her all but vomiting his feelings on her, yet she was silent. Her eyes closed when she finally forced words out. "You can do whatever you want, Liam... And hit on whomever you want. I just... didn't want to be a burden, or in the way." It was partly the truth anyway. She couldn't bring herself to admit she didn't like seeing him flirt with someone else. Not when she clutched his hand not a moment before. But those words didn't leave her lips.
"All you have to do is tell me what you want, Sloane. You seemed... happy since you left your brother, and that's what I want for you. You should be able to feel like you can be yourself, trust yourself, be open without fear. I'm not saying you need to do all of those things with me, but I was kind of hoping that we were headed in that direction."
"I am happier." Sloane felt the need to clarify that. No matter what happened between her and Liam, she was happy getting the brief glimpse of freedom she got, regardless of the end result. "And I... We were," she confirmed.
"I don't want to be just this man that follows you around so that your brother will stay away from you, is what I am trying to say. Judging from the party incident, maybe you don't want me to be, either." He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. It was only when he looked away that Sloane let herself look over at him. "I don't know what this is, but... If you go, Rocco would be very sad. He'd mope. Do you want to be responsible for a moping puppy?"
She smiled. It was brief and it faded as quickly as her gaze fell back to her hands that rested in her lap. "No... I don't want you to be my body guard." Sloane's words were quiet, nearly a whisper. It was only several moments after the words left her lips that she manage to meet his gaze. It was in that moment that she became very aware of her legs in his lap. She nearly pulled them from him and in toward herself. But she stopped herself. They just spoke of trusting and not being scared. Withdrawing into herself was a cowards move... a safe move. So, she forced herself to remain where she sat. Another small step forward.
"I do appreciate everything you've done for me, Liam... truly. And... I don't want to leave." Her voice trailed off, but she managed to keep her gaze on Liam. "But, I don't want to be in your way. I have no right to be... uncomfortable about what you do with other women. And if you want me to go... I'll go."
Sloane didn't move, but internally she prepared... Prepared to hear the words that he did want her to leave. Maybe he was trying to soften the blow. Regardless, whatever he wanted, she'd listen. This was his place and her life all but bombarded his own. She has no right to a spot in his cabin or being jealous of him flirting with someone else, although she wouldn't admit that it was jealousy. Now it was her turn for her leg to become slightly restless. Her toes twitched occasionally before her left leg began to bounce. Just rip off the bandaid.
"You know this is actually a pretty good normal day margin. Considering the other days we've had." Wes nodded his head at Trinity's words but had nothing to add. "Daniel will be fine and if he holds some grudge, he'll just conjure a killer in your cabin to get even."
He let out a genuine laugh at the comment, raising his mechanical arm to rub his temples while shaking his head. Wes smiled toward Trinity, but it quickly faded when he realized how serious a comment like that could be taken. He held out his other hand toward Iliana in a reassuring manner. "Not seriously. Ok, well seriously, but he has no reason to do that to you. He'd reserve stuff like that for Trinity or Andy... Or someone who genuinely annoyed him." He smiled weakly. Yeah, that wasn't going to be helpful at all.
Then it seemed Iliana had other thoughts on her mind. "Sylas scares me for some reason. He's hard to read."
Trinity looked towards him for help. Wes sighed, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees. He rubbed the back of his neck before speaking. "The same thing could be said about other people here as well. Personally, I'd worry about Eve." He shrugged his shoulders like he was brushing the thought off before it could fully leave his lips. "But that's just me."
"Do not let him see your fear. That douche is a leech, nothing more. Don't give him an inch of satisfaction. You can crush him under your heel." Trinity's fire always made Wes smile. Although he didn't know if he completely agree with the 'crushing him under your heel' portion. Iliana seemed to be the type to be afraid of her own shadow before standing up to someone else. But maybe he was wrong.
"You said you were Demeter's kid and your powers were linked to your emotions. So when you're sad or angry they just come out? Demeter's pretty nature-based right?"
"Trinity has a mind for battle strategy," he said, smiling as he looked over at the blonde. "She's probably trying to figure out how your abilities could be useful in a fight." Wes lightly nudged Trin with his elbow before he continued. "She's been trying to convince me to use my abilities more often since I can't fight for shit." He laughed, shaking his head at his jabs at himself. After all, it was the truth.
"Don't we all? Call me either. I have a twin, but we're never at the same place at the same time."
Sylas actually chuckled at the comment. It wasn't particularly a good joke but the added fact that he himself had his own twin made it resonate with him. He nodded his head, taking a sip from his drink before he spoke. "If only we all were that lucky. Although it would appear that she is no longer here," he added as his gaze scanned the party. He hadn't notice her depart but it seemed the lumbering idiot was also no where to be seen. An unfortunate side effect. He made a mental note to continue chipping away at Liam in the morning. He wouldn't dare miss the rest of the proceedings in the closet.
"A little bit." Andy's nose scrunched up as Sylas joked like they were all old friends catching up. She let out a sigh as Daniel moved out from behind her. She crossed her arms over her chest, but didn't look away from either one of them. After only some of the things she's encountered and heard, she was not a fan of leaving her brother alone in his presence.
"Speaking of interesting Slendy, what's the story with the neck?" Her brows furrowed slightly as she looked between her brother and the marks on Sylas's neck. Andy hadn't noticed them earlier. Perhaps her mind was too busy with other thoughts to care, but it made her wonder if that had to do with the conversation that happened between Liam and Trinity. Instinctually, she looked around at the remaining people at the party hoping she could find Liam towering over everyone else. But he was no where to be found.
Sylas inhaled sharply after another sip of his drink. His right index finger raised to trace along the bruises while he shrugged in a nonchalant manner. "Demigods are a lot... rougher than mortals. Not that I'm complaining." He smirked in a mischievous way before he downed the remaining contents of his drink. He was more than aware of some of the glares Daniel gave him while he spent time with Evelyn. Although he didn't explicitly say the redhead was the culprit of said markings, he wasn't going to stop the son of Hecate from thinking otherwise.
"You know I just got to say it is good to officially meet you, Sylas. To put a name to the face."
He shrugged and smirked slightly. "Happy to oblige." Sylas slid his left hand into his pocket while the other motioned towards Andy. "I'm sure you're thrilled to have your brother 'back'." His gaze drifted over toward Daniel as he continued. "It seems that your sister here has a habit of being at the epicenter of drama here."
Andy took a slight step back, furrowing her brows. "The hell does that mean?"
"Nothing," he replied. "Just that it might be nice to have someone in your corner. We could always use someone on our side." With his last word, Sylas placed his hand on Andy's shoulder. Before she could recoil he let subtle suggestions flow forth into her. At first he had every intention to give her feelings of guilt. But their touch enlightened him in that... she already was heavily weighed down with these thoughts. That and a juggle between Ajax and Mason.
So instead, he eased some of the guilt. Not much, just enough that Andy would have a nudge to act on impulse rather than worry about her effect on everyone else. The girl didn't know what she wanted. But maybe with one of her walls down, she'd let herself be drawn to Mason like she wanted to be deep down. He could see it in her eyes. And if Mason had Andy... Well, it'd only benefit Sylas in the long term. After all, what goes around comes around. Good karma and all that.
Andy shrugged her shoulder free from Sylas's grasp and took another step back so she was out of arm's reach. "Maybe you should listen to your own advice," she said with a sharp bite to her words.
"I have Mason. Last I checked that was more than you."
Before Sylas could say anything else, Andy pivoted on her heels and walked off. Daniel was more than capable of dealing with that snake's bullshit and just hearing Mason's name set something off in her. She didn't need to linger around and listen to his passive aggressive crap. Instead of joining any of the groups that lingered around the fire eagerly waiting for their chance in the closet, she wondered off toward the refreshment table. She scooped up the nearest shot and downed it, without even checking to see what it was. Just before she went to grab another, her gaze drifted toward the closet as the recent pair exited.
Alex walked out followed by Duke, looking far too content. It wasn't particularly a secret the crush she harbored for the son of Hephaestus. Her gaze met Alex's briefly. Andy groaned and rolled her eyes before turning her back toward the pissy brunette. "For fuck's sake," she muttered under her breath. Maybe it was time for her to leave this damn party and hermetically seal herself in her cabin for the next... decade at least.
Wesley was the first to speak up about Sylas saying, "The same thing could be said about other people here as well. Personally, I'd worry about Eve. But that's just me."
Trinity looked at Wes like he said something completely unbelievable. Personally, the man that could charm the mane off of a lion, was worried about Eve. That wasn't good and she doubted he was joking. While she expected and wanted more to Wes's new revelation, Iliana required their attention.
Iliana would have responded to that but Trinity suddenly grabbed her arm, causing Iliana to freeze.
“Do not let him see your fear. That douche is a leech, nothing more. Don't give him an inch of satisfaction. You can crush him under your heel.”
Well she was scared now, but not of Sylas. She nodded her head vigorously, hoping Trinity would let her go. She finally did and in a calmer voice asked her something.
"You said you were Demeter's kid and your powers were linked to your emotions. So when you're sad or angry they just come out? Demeter's pretty nature-based right?"
The sudden change in subject caused Iliana to raise an eyebrow. Maybe it was best to not worry about Sylas at the moment. Wesley soon added his own bit about Trinity wanting to find out how she'd be useful in a fight. His self-deprecation though brought a frown to Iliana's face. He probably had better control of his abilities more than her though. Deciding to answer Trinity's question, she took her notepad and wrote on it before showing it to her.
~I can help plants grow and other earth stuff and I can make it rain. The ones I struggle the most with are my wind magic and induce hunger. I'd rather never use induce hunger again though.~
Trinity pressed her tongue to her cheek to hide a smile but nodded. Wesley knew her well and she had been very persistent in trying to get Wes to sway his enemies or convert them to easy prey. It seemed Iliana might just have the same stubbornness about limiting herself. The nature of the demigods before her didn't allow such violence and domination.
Iliana thought of her induce hunger ability and it almost made her cry too as she remembered the last time she used it. She almost killed someone and even though she had been tortured horrendously, she still felt like a monster for using it. Her eyes turn dark, and she would have started crying then and there, but Duke suddenly showed up and handed the bottle to her. This jolted Iliana out of her dark thoughts. It took her a few minutes to realize it was her turn. Not knowing what to expect, she took the bottle out a bit and spun it. Having been churned up a bit though, she caused the bottle to spin into the air and it propelled itself like a helicopter and flew around, finding it's intended target. Iliana had still wanted to talk about Sylas, but also deep down wanted to know how she could be useful in battle and so the bottle landed at Trinity's feet.
Reflexes being on her side, the daughter of Ares took a swift step back to save herself so the bottle didn't land on her feet and shot Iliana a glare.
Iliana was horrified at what she did though and quickly wrote an apology. ~I AM SO SORRY!! I didn't mean any harm!~
It took her a few minutes to calm down, but seeing how she would be in the closet with Trinity, she quickly fled to the closet and waited for her fellow blonde.
Trinity stayed back for a minute more so as to appear not to be hunting down Iliana for revenge for endangering her boots. She sighed out and glanced to Wes. "I'm trying not to sound and appear like I'm a monster. Are you sure you can't use your abilities if only to calm Iliana down a bit?" She pat Wes's shoulder with a smile. "I’ll still listen out for…watermelon."
Trinity stepped into the closet for the second time to face the deer in the dark and held her hands together tightly. “So...who's scarier, Sylas or me?” That wasn't the best ice breaker but she was trying.
Iliana looked at Trinity. It must have been obvious that she was scared of Trinity. Did she fear her right at this moment? No, but she was on edge. By all appearances Trinity was an emotional lot too. Iliana thought about her answer and was honest with her reply.
~I honestly don't know, but at least with you, you're upfront with your feelings. Sylas . . . he's more cunning by all appearances. I wish I could read him better.~
With the illumination of Iliana's pad, Trinity gave the internal works of the closet a once over unsure how to fill the 7 minutes with the daughter of Demeter. She said something about having no expectations of the game or who'd she want to be stuck in there with. Trinity imagined it must have been a colossal disappointment to have landed on her. “I'm sorry the bottle landed on me. You could be getting the real experience with almost anyone else.”
~Um, actually, I am glad it landed on you. I could have ended up with Sylas after all. You seem to hate the guy. Do you know what he is capable of so I can be more wary of him? If I might ask, has he done something already? I just want to be able to protect my brother and other friend. As how I am right now, I am more of a threat to others then an asset.
It was true, she was terrified of hurting Ethan and Heath.
The blonde blinked at the pad. “Oh. Well, we all have the potential to be threats. One person and their abilities may just turn the tide of battle. For instance, your ability to induce hunger could really distract an opponent at the least.” She shuffled foot to foot. “Your wind magic, with a bit of exercise...keep their weapons away or you could help an accident happen.” Trinity shot her a wink before instantly feeling a pang of regret. Her intention was specifically not to sound like a bloodthirsty creature and there she was saying 'make gale force winds so the enemy stabs themself'. “Really, you could manipulate the environment of the battlefield. Rain, wind, plant growth...” Iliana could really put the ball in her court. So could Sylas if he was as dangerous as Liam made out but Iliana didn't need to hear that.
That never occurred to use her abilities to distract. Before her abduction, her training had been used for her to be like 2nd line offensive, 1st line if need be, but she wasn't physically strong, so 2nd line would be best.
Without such powers, of course, Trinity didn't know the exact applications of them. She went to reach for Iliana but remembered the last grip she had on her, wasn't the kindest and startled the daughter of Demeter. “Just tell me if it comes down to you and an opponent, you'll use your powers.”
Iliana had tried to use her powers to help free herself, but she had failed and became broken by the time her mother, Athena, and Hermes saved her. Her memories were very patchy, but even she remember her mother's rage. It was the only time she feared her mother. Her thoughts were interrupted when Trinity moved.
Trinity reached into her pocket and pulled out a dagger for inspiration. “Move it. Or I do and you gotta be quick.” The alcohol probably wasn't helping Trinity make the best decisions. But she laid it out with an open palm prompting Iliana to use her magic.
What was Trinity doing? Iliana looked at her in confusion. However she was very concerned right now. She tried picking up on Trinity's emotions, but the knife pointed at her was the only thing she was concentrating on right now.
The child of Ares waited, but patience wasn't up her alley. She gave Iliana the opportunity to sink or swim and she chose to sink. Trinity plunged the blade by Iliana's head. “I hate a lot of people, so Sylas isn't special. I don't know what he's capable of but nothing good. Maybe its best to stay alert around him and out of arms reach.” Since he had a thing for hitting the weak and Iliana didn't seem ready and willing to defend herself.
Iliana didn't have time to even breath when Trinity suddenly came at her and nearly got her with the blade in her hand. Her words didn't even register in her head because she was terrified.
The talk and test of powers brought their session to an end. Trinity dislodged her dagger from the closet and rejoined the fire to offload the bottle. She didn't think twice before handing it to Mason. Oh yeah, she was doing him a favour, separating him and the freakin' succubus.
By the time Iliana recovered and remembered where she was, Trinity had left the closet. What just happened? Her mind scrambled to remember. Slowly she recalled that Trinity lunged at her and said something, but she couldn't remember. Was she . . testing her? Wes did say Trinity was known to test people. Now Iliana felt like a fool. It seemed their time was up though. She existed the closet in time to see Mason with the bottle. She couldn't help but groan. Why did Trinity give the bottle to him? Looks like she was going to have to be extra watchful of Trinity because Mason was another person Iliana was wary of due to his intense hatred of the Valis's. Well she had enough for one night, so Iliana decided to go find her brother and Ethan.
Evelyn traced stray patterns in the damp sand deciding to spare fellow campers from interrogation and jumping through the mental hoops. She tilted her head back and closed her eyes sighing out to herself.
She had potentially met one of the nicest guys on camp and chose to test him and Heath instead. Even if a normal conversation was bland and dull, it was better than engaging in debate about the value of truth verse manners. Evelyn glanced in the direction of the fire and observed the odd mix of leftovers. The quiet blonde and Trinity, interesting. She wondered if the smaller one would come out unscathed. Then the bottle was passed into Mason's hands. She ended up closing her eyes and trying to relax, or let go of that habit to observe everything and everyone around her anyway. That was until she heard a rumble in the sky. Then she saw Alex pacing up to the closet and ripping Andy out of there followed by a punch. She was so shocked that only the next crash of thunder reminded her she could be indirectly a target of Zeus's wrath. She quickly withdrew her feet from the water and jumped up only to be drowned in rain. Yet like many of her peers, she could only watch in amazement: amazement that the two girls could hold so much rage and violence towards one another and didn't care they were the spectacle of impulse.
Just as the dispute appeared to reach a conclusion, Alex yelled to the skies and sent lightning out at Andy. Evelyn jumped. It was only then Ajax decided to intervene. Evelyn hugged herself becoming transfixed on Andy's motionless body. There was no sign of obvious breaths from her distance and through the rain. When Mason picked the brunette up, Evelyn's eyes darted to the Valises. She thought about offering them words of advice but in total truth, she didn't want to approach them. They wouldn't listen. After being deemed not guilty in the trial via the effects of a curse, Alex thought she was off probation and could endanger another life? It didn't make sense.
Evelyn's eyes scanned the last of the demigods on the beach gauging their response. The party was well and truly over and it wasn't safe with all the voltage coursing through the air. She didn't need enhanced senses to pick up on such a shift in the environment on its many levels. Without any more to do and nothing to say, Evelyn headed for the path, her soaked red hair plastered to her pale skin.
Of course, how could 7 minutes in heaven not end dramatically?
Trinity all but sipped on her drink when shit hit the fan. She rushed forward to see Alex and Andy trading blows and rolling about the sand for the upper hand. Her jaw set and fists clenched, edging closer to the fight but she couldn’t interfere as long as the odds were even. As much as the girls were out to kill each other, they played fair. And the rage in them needed to be released.
That was until Andy got barbequed by lightning. Mason hurried in the direction of Andy as Alex raved on and on at him. She watched him pick her up and have words said through his teeth with Ajax, then disappear. Trinity marched up to the Valises and shoved Ajax, trying to part the siblings. “Let her go Ajax, she could go another round!” she demanded, locking her fiery gaze on Alex, challenging and provoking her. “I tried to sympathise with you! You have no damn excuse for touching Andy.” Her nostrils flared and steam could emanate from her own body she was so mad.
She looked at Ajax next and jabbed a finger at him. “And you, people expect better of you. You're supposed to be a leader, but all you see and care about is your sister who frankly, puts the camp more at threat than helps it! You're both out of fucking control.” Her chest heaved as she had finally let it out. She sure didn't trust Alex and now she was losing faith in Ajax. Couldn't he have diverted the lightning or something? She thought he was the more powerful out of the two but he did nothing and continued to do nothing except hold Alex. “Wake up, Ajax! Your sister isn't the only one who needs you!” Trinity pushed Alex. She really was the golden girl, but not to Trinity and if she wasn't all bruised and battered already, Trinity would have swung. Even if Alex didn't deserve better. But the moment Alex broke free of Ajax and had a go, Trinity would retaliate and that's what she hoped for.
It took her a little off guard that when she finished speaking, Liam seemed to nearly smirk to himself. Sloane couldn't help but replay everything she said in her head over and over on repeat wondering what she could have said that would warrant that response. Nothing came up, but it still puzzled her. But she didn't let on that it did, instead remaining quiet and patient for him to speak up in response.
"You're happy, I'm happy. I think maybe we're both making progress here," he finally spoke breaking the silence. When Sloane looked up to meet Liam's gaze, she could see the exhaustion that tugged at his eyelids and threatened to carry him off into a deep slumber. "You want to be here, I want you to be here. The world is simple, Sloane." She let out a quiet chuckle as he patted her leg as if it really was that simple. Nothing was, she knew that and he knew that. But in that moment, that particular night she would humor him with a subtle head nod. It was simple, for now.
Liam took a moment to let the silence sink in or perhaps his words. He didn't seem to be in a rush to move from where he sat, rather letting himself sink further back into the couch using her shins as arm rests. "I'm just..." He began to speak, but his eyes closed. Sloane figured it was a matter of time before his eyes closed for good, and would not open until morning. "I'm just glad we can all agree you'll stay. We got a lot of work to do, Sloane. A lot of work. Bright and early in the morning - you, me, and training. What do you say?"
Before Sloane had a chance to answer, Liam's head got heavy resting against the back of the couch while his breathing grew deeper. She had no intentions in arguing his point, but even if she did it would fall on deaf ears. She found herself smiling slightly as she let out a soft sigh and relaxed back into the sofa. For a brief moment she contemplated slipping her legs out from under him and helping the giant into a laying position, but she doubted she'd be able to get free, let alone adjust him in any fashion.
She grabbed a blanket that was draped over the armrest and covered them both with it. Sloane wasn't even fully settled when Rocco trotted out into the living room and pawed at her hand. With a little help, the puppy climbed up onto her lap and found a small spot to curl up in between herself and his sleeping owner. Just as she began to doze off, the sound of thunder rumbling overhead followed by a loud crack of lightning startled not only herself by the small dog. Sloane gently petted Rocco's head trying to calm him as her brows furrowed. She couldn't explain it but something about the sudden storm caused her stomach to churn. And for some reason the only thought that came to mind... was Sylas.
***
Well, it turned out bright and early was indeed bright as the sunlight poured in from the windows waking Sloane from her slumber. But it wasn't all that early. It seemed that the alcohol took a heavy toll on Liam. As she stretched, Rocco waddled up to her, tail waging, and greeted her with a few slobbery morning kisses. When she finally went to sit up she noticed that at some point during the night Liam shifted to be more on the couch while she used his legs as pillows.
Sloane cleared her throat as she quickly stood up. She spared the son of Ares a glance over her shoulder who remained asleep on the couch. So, rather than wake him up, she stretched once more and then headed toward the door. Rocco slept through the evening but she doubted he could hold it much longer. And since Liam had a strong possibility of a hangover whenever he woke up, she took it upon herself to let him sleep as long as he needed. Once at the door she grabbed Rocco's leash and hooked it to the pup's collar. The little guy sprinted outside the second the door was opened, Sloane slowly following after him. She descended a few of the stairs before taking a seat on the edge of the porch.
Sylas didn't move from where he stood as Alex stormed off in the direction of the closet. He was happy to stand there, a spectator, and watch as the following events unfold. If the circumstances were different, he might have taken more credit for the daughter of Zeus's unwinding. But he only gave the girl a nudge in a direction she was already heading down.
Unfortunately for him, the fight seemed to end quicker than he would have liked. It would have been far more interesting if people would have intervened. Luckily Liam and his sister were long gone, both of whom would have tried to intersect him before he even got to Alex in the first place. It wasn't much, but it was a start. Although the end of the fight concluded far more climactically than he would have expected with a large bolt of lightning throwing the daughter of Hecate along the beach.
It seemed that during all the commotion of the storm and fighting, the quiet one started up her own whirlwind. He squinted his eyes in her direction briefly, trying not to show too much curiosity or irritation. Was she trying to defuse the fight or draw attention to herself? It seemed the mousey blonde was as unstable as the rest of the campers, but she didn't need his help in going over the deep end. It didn't quite match up in his mind though. Why would she react in such a way? Either way, the events had quickly brought a party to an end.
Sylas slipped out while everyone else was wrapped up in the aftermath and started down the path toward the cabins. Several steps in front of him, he noticed a particular red head going in a similar direction. Given the circumstances, he decided to remain back although the temptation to approach her was definitely there. Once the paths diverted, he looked towards the back of Evelyn's head a final time before he headed toward his own cabin.
Wes kept to himself, sitting there quietly as Trinity wondered off into the closet with Iliana. And then before he knew it the bottle was passed off to Mason, which got Andy a second go at the tight quarters. It seemed as though the evening was winding down as people disappeared off into the woods towards the cabins. With a soft sigh, Wes pushed off his seat and made his way over to Trinity. He gently placed his hand on her back to get her attention. "I think I'm going to—"
Before he could finish what he was saying the sky above began to go grey and rumble in a way that only a child of Zeus could have conjured. Wes's gazed scanned the crowd and only found Alex the moment she ripped open the door to the closest and took Andy by the hair, throwing her into the sand. The sky's opened up and quickly covered the beach in a deluge of rain. Wes was on Trinity's heels as she hurried forward to get a better view of the fight.
It was an unsettling sight... Watching his best friend and her best friend going for blood in the sand before them. No one dared get in the middle of it. Both girls were deadly in terrifying ways, Alex with sheer power and strength, while Andy had whatever her mind could conjure up. Some blows were so hard and powerful he found himself flinching. At one point he even considered using his own powers to calm everyone down, but in the end he decided it wasn't his place. Sometimes it seemed that the only way to put a vendetta to rest was to let a little blood be spilled.
The fight felt like it went on for ages and neither of them seemed to lose steam. Finally, it seemed to seize... But, Andy had one final word as she walked away. Murderer was all he heard before the beach illuminated as lightning slammed into the daughter of Hecate. It seemed as though everyone else was quick into action while Wes remained frozen in place, falling quickly to the background. He watched as campers were at each other's throats. Mason looked like he was about to murder the Valises while Ajax tried his best to hold back Alex.
Wes didn't step forward until he saw Trinity bee line for Ajax, giving him a good shove. "Let her go Ajax, she could go another round! I tried to sympathize with you! You have no damn excuse for touching Andy."
"Right... That's rich coming from the one who can't keep her own hands to herself." Wes remained there, a few feet behind Trinity but remained removed. Deep down he hoped that another fight didn't break out. He didn't want to think of Trinity and Alex throwing punches next. He simply remained quiet and vigilant watching as the remaining events unfold.
"And you, people expect better of you." Trinity directed her anger at Ajax next. "You're supposed to be a leader, but all you see and care about is your sister who frankly, puts the camp more at threat than helps it! You're both out of fucking control. Wake up, Ajax! Your sister isn't the only one who needs you!” Things started getting physical as Trinity shoved Alex.
"Shut your damn mouth!" Alex pushed Trinity back, using all of her strength. Wes didn't know if it was lucky or not that he stood behind Trinity. She stumbled back into his chest where he stabled her, keeping the daughter of Ares from falling over. Wes's hands kept ahold of her upper arms, not in a way to hold her back or stop her, because he knew damn well not to get in her way when she was angry, but to just be there. Through their physical touch he could feel her emotions and knew that a lot of it stemmed from her concern for Andy. She was worried.
"Push me again.. I dare you!"
Wes was about to speak up, maybe try to defuse the situation but Duke showed up first, putting himself between them. "Take it easy. Everybody needs to simmer down."
"Hasn't anyone told you that telling people to calm down doesn't help anything?" Wes gave a sad attempt at a smile and chuckle. He wasn't very good at helping keep the peace. But this time, was one of the few times he used his powers. Not much, but enough to sooth everyone. Nothing more.
"I think you two should go," he said toward Ajax and Alex. Then he looked back toward Trinity, even though his words seemed to be geared toward everyone who remained on the beach. "I think we should all retire for the night."
Wes didn't pay much attention to what Duke said. He knew the guy meant well and was doing more than anyone else when it came to ending the fights, but the whole thing was delicate. He slowed moved in front of Trinity, keeping his hands resting gently on her shoulders. "I'm sure Mason has already gotten Andy to the infirmary. If anyone can help her, they can." He let his grip slowly slip from her arms and took her right hand in his left.
There was nothing else he could say, so instead he said nothing. Wes guided her slowly off the beach and through the woods towards the cabins. He remained quiet so she could yell, complain or worry however she wanted and he would listen. When they reached the path that diverted between his cabin and hers, he gave Trinity's hand a gentle squeeze. "If you don't want to be alone, you're more than welcome to stay with me. I can sleep on the couch. And first thing in the morning we can go check on Andy... If anything changes before then I'm sure Mason would tell you."
He then took a step forward, placing a tender kiss on her forehead. "Whatever you need, I'm here." It was a strange place, being in his shoes at that moment. Wes was Switzerland in the middle of a war between people he cared about. For the first time he could see the fragile place Andy has been for over a year now. But regardless of him not choosing sides, he would still be there for Trinity, no matter what.
Her eyes were only on one thing, burning fiercely through Alex as she was pushed back. She barely paid attention to the demigod behind her, holding the top of her arms.
“Push me again.. I dare you!”
She took one step forward to obey the invitation but then Duke was there, being peacemaker and Mr. High Ground. Trinity didn't move until the Valises took off, glaring daggers at them. Then Wes came into view. Only then did she let her eyes soften a little and body relax from fight stance to just tense and drowned. “I'm sure Mason has already gotten Andy to the infirmary. If anyone can help her, they can.”
She looked at their hands, a thousand thoughts swirling in her mind but none that she could express or say. She let herself be led by Wes away from the beach, trying to sort her thoughts and feelings. Had there been an opportunity for things to escalate, Trinity would have aimed to put Alex in a worse condition than Andy.... then where would she be? And she all but ripped faith in Ajax apart.
Wes pulled her to reality again with a gentle squeeze on her hand. “If you don't want to be alone, you're more than welcome to stay with me. I can sleep on the couch. And first thing in the morning we can go check on Andy... If anything changes before then I'm sure Mason would tell you.”
She frowned, not at what he said, not even thinking of Andy's current state, but because she realised the source of her uneasiness and disturbance. “Yeah, that sounds good,” she replied softly.
He stepped forward and placed a kiss on her forehead, forcing Trinity to close her eyes and sigh gently. “Whatever you need, I'm here.” He was being nothing but sweet, but it was like rubbing salt on the wound because of his constant care. Something she was undeserving of.
“I think I’d prefer to be with you otherwise I’ll drive myself crazy,” she admitted with a sad smile. Though they both probably knew that.
Arriving at Wes’s cabin, Trinity tried to ring out her hair so as not to leave big puddles dripping on his floor. Although it was a vain effort. Following Wes's lead, Trinity stopped in the middle of his cabin. “Oh, I actually forgot to tell you I shotgun the couch. Otherwise, we could be bed buds. That's my condition for sleepovers.” She wasn't having Wes sleep on the couch in his own cabin. She shrugged since she wouldn't be budged.
Wes kept her calm and closer was better in this instance. Even if she wasn't accustomed to sharing, and usually liked her time and space alone, tonight wasn't the night. She didn't like being caught up in too much reflection, it proved unhealthy and only stirred feelings of rage. “Can we share the bed? Just for tonight.” Again her voice was soft and hesitant, not used to making such a request.
Once organised and appropriately dried, Trinity climbed into one side of his bed, a bed she would admire the comfort of if her mind wasn't so preoccupied.
Trinity turned on her side facing Wes, looking him over. He really was something special. She took his hand keeping it between them. “Wes, I'm sorry. For...you know, putting you in tough situations. Being so quick for violence and wanting to fight Alex.” To list only a few but there it was. Her guilty conscience partly released.
* xxx * xxx * xxx * xxx *
At some stage she must have fallen asleep. She rolled over and groaned longing to find comfort and sleep again but the sunlight peeking through the room wouldn't permit such a thing, along with her unsettled stomach joining the cause not to sleep in. She sat up with effort, her hair a wild mess, heavy eyes scrutinizing the room and hand over her stomach.
Trinity was in dire need of a shower. She needed to get up and see Andy, treat herself to some breakfast and not hit or push people. Okay, move now, she told her muscles, managing to shift her legs off the edge of the bed, only to fall back in defeat. What was she going to do with herself?
Liam naturally greeted his dog. Rocco made him smile genuinely, and just as Sloane raced to snatch the items of clothing he had been holding outstretched, the pup hopped into his arms. He tried not to laugh at the fact that both of the ladies on his front porch were bright red because he hadn't thought anything sexual about the outfit. Well, that was a lie - he did believe that Sloane would look good in it. And you know, confidence was key to any success in life. He really felt like he was doing her a solid. She'd thank him when she's not ugly sweating through pants and a t-shirt.
That left Iliana, of whom he obviously makes unnerved. He tilted his head a bit, wondering if she was going to say something or do something - uncertain if it was socially acceptable for him to leave her be. Then she stepped forward and offered him a sneak peek of her notebook, ~Good morning, I am sorry for interrupting. I was just looking for the infirmary. My name is Iliana and can't talk so this is how I communicate. I'll leave you two to your business.~
"Ah, sorry sweet-cheeks, but I don't have a damn clue where anything is right now," he started to turn around and let her be off on her way. Before they could both part ways entirely, he shouted out to her, "But if you figure it out, maybe let me know! May need it later. You know... training!" Then he let her leave him in peace since it seemed like she probably had wanted to run away from him the whole time. He gets it - he's intimidating.
With that said and done, he let Rocco down so that he could do his business, then both of them retreated into the cabin. Then they settled on the couch, Rocco on his lap, legs spread, sunken deep into the furniture like the lazy piece of shit he was.
He was just about to close his eyes when Sloane emerged. There was a battle inside of him - the one where he had to pit one brain against the other in order to not look her over like a drooling hound. Not that he isn't a drooling hound, but he's trying to keep this one around a bit longer. That meant she needed his respect. As hard as it was to go against the grain of his deeply seated piggish personality, he was at the very least - trying.
In that moment, the one where he was trying to keep his eyes trained on the wall behind her - but it looked like he was staring at her, he had an epiphany.
He wasn't the right person to train her. Gods know he couldn't actually hit her. If she cried? Hell, he'd probably die. No one prepared him for this weakness in life. No one. Now he is just staring at her, as Sloane is very much used to, formulating some kind of tactful approach to how this was going to go down.
He stared and he stared, and maybe she tried talking to him - maybe she didn't. Who cares? He had to solve this very significant issue that he had failed to foresee. Two names come to mind: Trinity and Wes.
Liam didn't know much about Trinity and Wes, but at least his half-sister would be a less biased party. He would help Sloane in other ways - working out, strength training, maybe even helping her figure out how to use her unique ability to her advantage in a physical fight.
Maybe it would help that Trinity is a woman. Was that wrong to assume? Sloane has been horribly abused by her brother, or so he believes, for a long time. The last person she'd need to be put up against would be a man. It didn't feel right to him. Not yet. He knew that she would be able to in time, but right now he wanted to work on her confidence.
He pushed himself up and off of the couch, moved into the kitchen, and grabbed a pack of quick-oats and a bowl in which he poured some milk. He ripped open the packet, poured it into the bowl, popped it into the microwave and waited for two minutes. He pulled it out, grabbed a spoon and plopped it in, and pushed it toward Sloane. "Food first. Never skip breakfast. I can't have you passing out on me. Hmmm?"
He fixed up a bowl of oats for himself, but a much larger serving and mixed grossly with a few raw eggs and a spoon full of peanut butter. And yes, it probably tasted how it smelled, but he didn't care. "We're going to find where Trinity and Wes are in this place, too. I was thinking that Trinity would be a good place for you to start. You know... because..." he trailed off because he wasn't sure if giving her his reasoning was wise. "She knows woman things." Yeah, that was totally better.
After the pair eat, he pats Rocco and they both head out.
On their way toward the gym, he stops by a multitude of cabins. He has no shame - knocking on one door and then another, sometimes no answer - sometimes an answer. Even Rae answered the door in a towel, to which he looked quickly at Sloane and backed away, almost tripping over himself to abort this situation quite quickly - nearing a run. This left the redhead confused, probably. That just left Sloane there, probably red-faced. Again.
Oh, he was not going to get in trouble again. No, Sir.
Eventually, they ended up at Wes' cabin, but he didn't know whether or not this was the one. At least he knew whose cabins to avoid now.
He knocked loudly a few times, half turned away just in case anyone is coming out of the shower.
She smiled when his arm came around her waist and he kissed her arm. “We can stay here and ignore the world for as long as you want. Or we can head straight to the infirmary.”
Staying in Wes’s cabin sounded like the blissful and the easiest option. No responsibilities, minimum room for error but also selfish and for that, she nudged him when he sat up beside her. “Don’t tempt me.” Although her bump ended up with her staying there, leaning against him. She sighed out softly.
“You're more than welcome to borrow a shirt or the shower.” She leaned away to look at him, but it only got better. “I don't really know what I have in the realm of food, or I'd offer to make you breakfast.”
Her mouth dropped open. “So you’re telling me this isn’t a five star hotel?” Trinity chuckled then guided his face to hers and kissed him. She met his lips hastily, apparently unable to do anything with full tenderness and patience. She let out a soft laugh again, stroking the nape of his neck. “Sorry, sorry.” He always eased her mind and she appreciated him , was grateful to him and adored him beyond belief. Yet she was always attacking him, even in affection. The poor son of Aphrodite.
“Now, are my choices between a shirt or shower or is it way too bizarre to have both?” She grinned, unable to help herself from teasing him. Trinity stood up finally and awaited instructions to a lend worthy top then hopped in his shower.
The water streaming from the showerhead worked like a soothing massage, making her tilt her head back and close her eyes for a moment, relieving the tension in her muscles. The cleansing it gave her body was overdue and so rewarding. Although the time for luxury was short-lived. She was too rough for the son of Aphrodite's cabin, too unrefined, plus it wasn't her resource to use. The thought of Wes waiting about moved her along promptly. No time to daydream, no time to experiment with body washes, just wash herself until she didn't smell too beachy.
It was all going along great until the water stopped. She forgot to grab one missing piece of the post-shower puzzle. “Wesleeey? Could you grab a towel, please?” she called. She positioned herself behind the bathroom door for cover. Even then, Trinity instinctively covered her chest with one arm and crossed her legs self-consciously. Not that she didn't trust Wes, it was more the state of being a vulnerable naked idiot in the first place.
When her towel arrived she peeked around the door and extended a hand out to make the exchange. “Thank you.”
A brief dry, oversized top, she was living the life. She was about to burst out of the bathroom and ambush Wes because she of all people really couldn't help herself. However, a couple steps out from the mark, there was a knock on his door that made her freeze. It could be anyone coming to Wes's cabin, none of them with a bearable face. She was in two minds: to flee or stay in view when the front door opened. Trinity chose the latter, awaiting the identity of the knocker, imagining she had to hold her head a little higher in triumph that she got to sleep at Wes's cabin and borrow the son of Aphrodite's top.
The moment she caught a glimpse of the male profile, she leapt out of view. Those Bane bulging muscles had to belong to Ares‘s son. Only she had to wonder what Liam was doing at Wesley’s cabin in the first place and why she, in a dress sized top, felt embarrassed. People wore worse for fun, this was a big baggy dress and she hadn’t done anything wrong.
Finally, when she regained her reason with a side of courage, she emerged for a second attempt. She rested a palm on Wes’s back to let him know she was behind him and glanced between Wes and Liam, then found Sloane in…workout clothes. Trinity’s eyes narrowed. This reserved girl, that chose her books and solitude on the odd occasion Trinity did even see her, was in a crop top. Something was up. Trinity offered Sloane a tight smile and wave, though maybe pleasantries were best left to Wes and she was best listening for now.
“This probably requires appropriate clothes,” she muttered under her breath. Whatever this was exactly. “I can meet up with you guys in a minute.”
She headed back in Wes's cabin and could be heard slamming a few of his draws in haste. She stepped into his shorts and pinched them at her waist height so they didn't fall. Trinity gathered her clothes from last night in her free hand then rushed to her own cabin. Not before popping a quick kiss on Wes's cheek though. “Thank you,” she told her superb host, and flashed another smile to Sloane and Liam.
If either Liam or Sloane needed a training partner or help then she was there. Especially after the shit Sloane took from her brother. As promised, Trinity was prompt on getting into training gear and regrouping with them. “How do we wanna do this, chief?” Trinity finished tying what was supposed to be a bun and glanced towards Liam before fixing her gaze on Sloane.
She was keen to find out what the brunette was made of and if it wasn't much, well, working with her half brother would change that. But Sloane...and even Wes in a sense were alien specimens to her. Trinity couldn't understand not making a stand for yourself and fighting back, it's all she knew. “Have you hit someone before, Sloane?” Evidently, she wasn't much for warm-ups and getting Sloane some muscle as much as she was interested in her fighting history and combat. Maybe she was jumping the gun and maybe the boys would disapprove of her lack of subtlety but for now, it was just a question and Trinity only cared for Sloane's reply.
To say that Sloane felt self conscious when she stepped out of the bathroom was an understatement. She couldn't remember the last time she wore clothing that revealed this much skin, nor could she recall the last time she did anything physical after leaving her private school to come to camp. It didn't help that Liam seemed to be staring, not that he didn't have a habit of doing that already. But it was longer, with a silence that grew heavier by the minute. She found herself tugging at the hem of her shorts and regretting her choice to wear those clothes. While his gaze remained firmly on her, hers flitted about the room as her cheeks grew warm.
Finally, Liam managed to move to his feet and go over to the kitchen. He quickly prepared some basic breakfast meal of some sort and place the bowl on the counter, pushing it in her direction. "Food first. Never skip breakfast. I can't have you passing out on me. Hmmm?"
Sloane gave Rocco a quick pet as she walked past him and took a seat at the counter in front of the bowl. She slowly began to eat the contents while sneering at whatever concoction Liam mixed up for himself. She was thankful for her plain oats. "We're going to find where Trinity and Wes are in this place, too. I was thinking that Trinity would be a good place for you to start. You know... because..." Her hand freezes a few inches from her mouth with a spoonful of food as she waited for him to finish his statement. "She knows woman things."
The scoff came out before she could keep it in. It wasn't at the thought of Trinity knowing... 'woman' things. Obviously she did, she was a woman. But that that was the reasoning that Liam decided to speak. Sloane didn't question, instead focusing on her bowl of oats making sure she ate it all so her socially tact body guard wouldn't harp on her. Then following his lead, she gave Rocco a good bye pet, even squatting down to his level to place a kiss on the pup's head before following him out of the cabin.
It seemed there was a slight hitch in Liam's plan when it became quickly evident that he had no idea which cabin was Wes's. To be fair, neither did she. But watching him go from porch to porch, knocking and disturbing the sleeping campers was a bit amusing. Rather than following him up onto every porch, Sloane lingered a few feet away from the stairs, close enough that she could see who answered the door but also far enough that she didn't look quite as ridiculous knocking on all the doors.
When the door opened revealing Wes, she caught a brief glance of someone else ducking out of view. Trinity perhaps. Either way it wasn't Sloane's place to judge. After all, for the past couple of nights she has been staying in the company of another male. Plus, from what it looked like Trinity and Wes were a couple so there was no crime there. Instead of eaves dropping, she paced around on the trail outside Wes's cabin, twiddling her fingers. At one point the blonde even waved toward her with a tight smile, which she returned in kind.
It wasn't long before the four of them found an open clearing someone on the camp grounds. Sloane could almost guarantee that she wouldn't be able to find her way back to the cabins alone if she had to. But luckily, she wasn't alone. She felt like a mouse, the way she stood behind Liam slightly and kept looking over her shoulder like Sylas might show up at any moment.
“How do we wanna do this, chief?” Trinity asked Liam, but then her gaze drifted over toward Sloane. She tensed slightly, standing more straight. “Have you hit someone before, Sloane?”
Sloane looked over to Liam then back to Trinity. She inhaled softly before parting her lips to reply. "No." She nearly left it there but it seemed that in present company, now might be the time to admit things she wouldn't normally. That is, if she wanted to improve at all. And deep down, she did. Sloane didn't want to be dependent on others. "But I've made one person hit another," replied frankly as if stating a fact rather than divulging a glimpse at what her powers could do.
So, the cat and mouse played. Of course, Sylas had been trying, for awhile now, to seduce Evelyn. He didn't deny it nor did he hide it. He wasn't a bashful flirt. But, something deeper inside him was a bit surprised. Not that he would admit that to anyone. To some extent he thought cracking her would take more work and time, lots of time. This wasn't to say he was now privy to all her deepest darkest secrets. But he had her, in the most primal way one person could have another. And while some say that sex complicates things, it also is a window into someone that most don't get to experience, yet he did.
And she was ravenous.
Their little game of cat and mouse, seeing who could outsmart one another was like prolonged foreplay that only seemed to wind her up more. He could almost say he was happy he was there when she finally had to let it out. Sylas was a proud man, but a woman has not perplexed him nor played him quite like Evelyn did... and it made him just as ravenous.
For the first time in... he didn't know how long, Sylas wasn't rushing his recent escapade out the door. Instead he laid there, breathing heavily, entangled with the stunning red head as her fingers ran through his hair. In that moment, he was content. Odd.
“Seems you can hold your word when you want,” she spoke softly in his ear, breaking the silence. Then her satin lips found their way to his earlobe, giving it a tender kiss. Was that a thank you? Sylas had to keep himself from smirking, but to say he wasn't pleased with himself would be a lie. Hearing you're as good as your word would boost anyone's ego.
In that moment, he was tempted to pull her closer, perhaps even take her one more time. But just as he began to move, Evelyn climbed out of the bed. As she began to find her clothes and put them back on, Sylas rolled onto his back in the bed, making sure, at least, his lower half was still covered by a sheet. All the while, his gaze scanned her bare back, her waist or a brief glimpse of the curve of her breast until her clothes concealed her once more. His brow quirked slightly as she flicked her hair out from the collar of her shirt. It was something small that most wouldn't notice, but for some reason, laying there in bed, watching her... it was immensely attractive.
“Thank you for the coffee it was....” Sylas crossed his arms under his head and even smirked a little waiting for her choice of words. “Flavourful.”
Sylas hummed softly to himself before finally speaking up himself. "Most... delicious cup I've ever had."
“Could I use your bathroom?” she asked after finishing getting dressed.
"Of course," he replied as he motioned in the direction of the bathroom. As she left him, Sylas slowly sat up in bed, stretching and running his fingers back through his hair. With a sigh, he dragged himself to the edge of the mattress and pulled on his boxers. He then rested his elbows on his knees as he waited for her to return.
“I can show myself out if you like,” Evelyn said as she exited the bathroom.
"If that is what you want." His voice was soft, in a way that not many people saw. Sylas slowly looked up at her as he extended his right hand toward her. His index fingered hooked around the belt loop of her jeans and tugged her a bit closer. "And what if I said... I wanted you to stay." He continued to gently guide her toward him, not forcefully though. If she desired to be free of him, she could with ease.
Once she stood between his knees his other hand took a hold of her waist. His thumb just barely under her shirt so that his skin could lightly brush her own. "Plus," he said softly as his other hand slowly caressed her thigh coming to rest below her backside. "You still have a question to cash in."
“So you’re telling me this isn’t a five star hotel?” Wes was going to reply with an equally sarcastic remark, but before he could get out a word, Trinity took a hold of his face and pulled him towards her. The action surprised him, but he didn't fight it. He let her guide him straight to her lips and lingered there in that moment until she pulled herself from him. She then laughed and stroked the back of his neck. “Sorry, sorry.”
"No need to apologize." Wes smiled, placing a final kiss upon her forehead. Unlike her hasty kiss, his was soft and tender.
“Now, are my choices between a shirt or shower or is it way too bizarre to have both?” Trinity grinned which only made his own smile grow. Gods did he love her smile.
"Well, you said it yourself, this isn't a five star hotel," he teased in return. Wes then pointed toward the bathroom. "It's all yours. I'll find you something to wear."
Once Trinity disappeared into the bathroom, Wes was slow to his feet, yawning and stretching. After a moment or two, he finally shuffled across the room toward his dresser. He sifted through his belongings trying to find one of his smaller shirts that might fit her best. Just as he grabbed it, he heard her call from the other room. “Wesleeey? Could you grab a towel, please?”
Wes cursed himself under his breath, forgetting that there must not have been clean towels in the bathroom. To some it might have seemed like some sort of ruse to get Trinity naked, but he wouldn't have done that to her. Maybe in the past, before camp, before Trinity, he would have been shallow like that. But now, he tried so hard not to put a toe out of line. He grabbed a clean towel and a shirt before making his way over to the bathroom door. He held up his free hand to shield his eyes, even keeping his head turned away as handed her what she requested. "Sorry about that."
“Thank you,” Trin said as she took the towel and shirt. With a smile, he nodded his head being sure to not accidentally see what he shouldn't.
Then, there was a knock on the door. It took Wes by surprise. Who could possibly be at his door? Instantly, something inside of him began to worry. Worry that it was something to do with Andy. He glanced over his shoulder just in time to see Trinity exit the bathroom wearing his shirt like a dress and whatever worries he had, melted away for a moment. She looked content for a moment. She was beautiful, but whatever moment they might have shared there was ruined by the guest at the door.
Wes sighed and walked over to the door, opening it to find Liam with Sloane lingering down by the path, dressed for training. Behind him, he heard Trin nearly dive out of view of the door which made his heart sink a little. But, this wasn't the time for him to dwell on that. He sighed knowing what those clothes meant, which meant he was probably here for her. "I'm guessing you're here for Trinity."
Then just as he said her name, he felt Trin's hand softly touch his back to alert him of her presence behind him. She didn't address her brother, but waved toward Sloane as she waited. “This probably requires appropriate clothes. I can meet up with you guys in a minute.”
He nodded his head as she disappeared into his cabin. Wes winced with a soft laugh as he heard her slamming drawers. In a moment or two she returned in his shorts with her clothes bundled in her arms. She gave him a farewell kiss on the cheek saying, “Thank you," and then heading off towards her cabin.
Which left Wes standing there with the less than talkative pair. He stood there for a moment, then tapped his fingers on the doorframe. "Let me change real quick." He left the door open incase either one of them wanted to come in while he got dressed. It didn't take him terribly long and he made sure to also grab enough bottles of water for the four of them before heading back out. He tossed one to Liam and Sloane, then motioned toward the son of Ares to proceed and he'd follow.
It didn't take long for Trinity to rejoin them ready for training like an child of Ares would be. “How do we wanna do this, chief?” Wes didn't try to partake in these conversations. He wouldn't be surprised if they tried to rope him into training as well. But until he was called upon, he'd stand on the sidelines like a good water boy.
“Have you hit someone before, Sloane?” A typical Trinity question if there ever was one. Wes had been on the receiving end of some of those questions. A natural warrior, she always needs to know the extent of people's skills and usefulness. For over a year now she's been trying to convince him to use his powers. He's used to the questions.
"No... But I've made one person hit another." When the shy, quiet girl spoke up, it got Wes's attention. No doubt that response already had the wheels spinning in Trinity's mind. He looked between Liam and Trin curiously before finding a log to sit on and watch.
After Andy admitted to not regretting their time together in the closet, let out, what she gathered to be a sigh of relief. She watched him, with a slight smile as he looked down at their intertwined hands. "I'm glad," he replied. Two simple words that made herself also sigh a bit in relief. This didn't solve a lot of their problems. If anything this might have caused more. But for the first time, in who know's how long, Mason and her were being completely honest with each other. And given all the other drama, it helped relieve some of the weight from her shoulders.
When her gaze drifted away, Andy was caught off guard when his hand clutched her own a little tighter. A small gesture that made her smile faintly and give her courage for the words she spoke. He didn't say anything, but nodded in acknowledgement. This was new territory that they were both tiptoeing into. They both had discourse in their hearts but at least right then in that moment they were content and would figure it out, together.
After a few moments in silence, something that stirred in Mason's mind brought a smile to his face. Andy found herself smiling at the sight. Her hand squeezed his and gave it a playful tug. "What are you thinking about?"
"Question, and it's going to seem a little off topic but, way back when you first came to camp, why'd you go for the minotaur? You were new, you had no obligation or expectation to protect others or fight."
Her eyes squinted slightly as she thought back to that day. Gods did it feel like forever ago. It was odd to think of one event that was a snowball for so many things. Without that minotaur her and Mason might never have become friends. "Part of it was to keep it from harming anyone. If you haven't realized by now, self preservation isn't my strong suit." Andy chuckled softly as she looked down at their hands. "But honestly, I think I did it for the minotaur. It was some poor creature doing what was in it's primal nature. Maybe someone let it loose in camp or maybe it wondered into camp. Either way, that didn't mean it deserved to die."
She exhaled softly as she tapped her thumb against his hand. "Just because something appears evil doesn't mean they are... even people," Andy concluded looking up to meet his gaze. Her words carried a second meaning. Nothing that she hadn't told Mason one hundred times before. But regardless of what he said he was or anyone else, Andy knew he was a good person. Right then at that moment he was showing it, even if it was for only her eyes. That was enough.
It was then that Mason released her hand leaving her own where it rested partially open for a moment before she finally closed it. He picked up the medicine that Iliana had brought her and examined it. "Can you even apply this?"
"Why? Are you offering?" she teased, even managing a laugh. Of course, with sore and broken ribs it didn't feel too pleasant but it was nice to laugh. The joke was probably in poor taste, but she knew, if anything, it'd get a smile out of him.
"What is it?" She leaned forward to get a better look, seeing that it was aloe. "I don't know if I have any burns." Andy took hold of the blanket's hem and raised it a few inches to look down at her legs. "Unless Cherise healed those?" She rested back into the bed with a sigh. "I don't know if I could... Maybe?" Although that probably wasn't the answer he was looking for.
"Honestly, on a scale of one to ten, where's your pain at the moment?"
Andy had never seen Mason so worried, definitely never about herself. He freed her from his father, but she never saw his concern first hand. But now, sitting here, he worried just as much as she would if the tables were turned. It a strange sort of way it was comforting knowing, that even through all his bitterness he cared for well being as much as she cared for his.
She stretched and moved her arms, then ran her fingers along her ribs to try and gauge how it felt. "My arms and legs are sore, like after a long day of physical activity. If anything hurts, it'd be my ribs." But Andy couldn't get away with that as her answer. So before Mason asked her again she sighed. "I don't know... 5, maybe a 6. I'll be ok." She knew her words wouldn't reassure him much. They were both good at brushing off their own issues and this was no different. Andy didn't want him to worry about her. But telling each other not to worry was never successful.
"Do you want something to eat? I can get you some food, fresh clothes."
Andy hadn't thought about her stomach until that moment. It seemed at the mere mention of food, her stomach growled with protest. She hated asking anyone to do something for her. She could have tried to conjure something up. But if she used her powers who knew how much weaker that would make her... Or pissed Mason would be at her for trying. She sighed. "I would love something to eat and something to wear that isn't an itchy hospital gown. Even if it was just a t-shirt." Her eyes closed as she spoke, grimacing as she had to ask for help. "I hate being useless," she confessed.
"You have to stay here a little longer, okay?" Andy let out a deep sigh as she nodded her head. She knew. She didn't like it but, she knew. If she even tried to get out of bed Mason, Daniel and Trinity would get her ass back in bed so fast she'd probably have whiplash. It was like he could tell how much being stuck in be infuriated her. As she sat there nearly pouting, Mason's hand gently brushed her hair back from her face. Her gaze slowly raised to meet his trying to give a slight smile. "A few more hours of observation, I'll get you whatever you want, then I'll get you out of here if you're well enough."
As he spoke, his hand came to rest upon her, gently caressing Andy's head. It stayed there for a moment, until Mason realized it and shit his hand to rest beside her head. "Alright. Just... make sure you get food for yourself. Ok?"
Image Standing in the bathroom in front of the mirror, toothbrush in hand, she thought about the night before. The pair had spent over an hour talking, or at least Alex did. Duke just listened. "It's okay if you don't want to stay... I'll understand if you even end up hating me like everyone else."
Duke had shaken his head, and with a weak smile, he squeezed her hand and said, "I'm staying." even though she knew he wasn't the type of person to allow others opinions to affect his own, she didn't expect him to stay. After all, she had promised him that she'd be herself again, but that promise had been broken the second she laid her hands on Andy.
With the thought of the days ahead, Alex closed her eyes for a second, took a deep breath, and let all her anxiety float away with the exhale of air before brushing her teeth.
It wasn't too long before she was ready, fully dressed, and heading down the stairs. The lounge was empty as Duke wasn't on the couch anymore, but his pillow and quilt were there, stacked neatly into a pile. He hadn't had time to get back to his own cabin yet by the looks of things, and given what time it was in the morning, the camp would be breathing life.
She slipped on her shoes that lay on the carpet by the door and headed out. She'd just missed her brother when she made her way over to Wes.
Image "Hey... I... can I talk to you for a moment? I need some advice and... well, that's not the only reason I want to talk to you. Please." she said, her brows furrowing as she gently pleaded to be heard. She looked passed him for a quick moment, her eyes landing on Trinity and that hulk brother of hers before she looked back at Wes. Once he gave her some indication that it was alright for her to talk, Alex got started. "A part of you probably hates me right now, and I don't blame you, but... I just want to say that I and Ajax are leaving soon and I couldn't leave without saying goodbye to you. I'm going to miss you, cupid."
hopefully, that sudden nickname for him didn't sound cliche or lame. "I hope, one day, you'll forgive me." she smiled a little. "I also feel like I should apologize to Andy, but... I don't think it will make any difference with how much she hates me." Alex also didn't blame Andy for that, or Trinity. Even Alex hated herself.
Heath and Ethan were still jogging as the path they took went into a wooded area.
"You'd think a place as nice as this wouldn't have such drama," Ethan commented.
"It just goes to show just how much looks can be deceiving. I hope there will come a day here that things aren't so tense."
"Still I am glad we came. I love your place, Heath, but I was getting tired of being cooped up in your place."
Ethan knew he could be completely honest with Heath. He was an extrovert, he could never stay inside for too long. Heath grinned at his friend, grateful for his assistance. He had started seeing the anxiety of staying inside, trying to help his sister, was starting to take its toll. It was a good thing their mothers told them to go to the camp when they did because he could tell that Ethan had been slowly going nuts.
As the two continued to jog, they soon started hearing voices. Finally, they came upon the source of those voices. It was Cherise and Rae. Ethan couldn't help but suppress a groan. While both girls were nice, they did freak him out last night when they dragged him on the dance floor. Heath saw his friend's face, but seeing how the two ladies already noticed them, he was the first to greet them.
"Morning ladies. Getting some archery in? We were just getting some jogging in before getting some breakfast."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I like this girl. She's beautiful and sweet and...owns a crossbow or two but, she's nice. Except when I met her I was different, and I'm not sure entirely how to explain that to her without her thinking I'm a liar or she's the butt of the joke."

This caused Iliana to think. She had only seen him with 2 girls so far, one was a redhead, and the other was Cherise. And when she first met Daniel, he had been someone else and had been with Cherise during the trial. So maybe it was her? Plus Cherise was the daughter of Apollo, whom she knew was into Archery.

~You're talking about Cherise right? I remember you two were in the closet together. Maybe if you start at the beginning on how you became a different person to begin with, that might help? And it looks like your sister, Trinity, and Wesley know what happened to you, so maybe one of them could help? My brother has told me that having those who can back up your statements can be an asset.~

Iliana might not be as smart as her brother, but she was still an observant person. And Daniel was definitely troubled by the idea of Cherise not liking him. Cherise had been in a much better mood after leaving the closet, so she was hopeful things would be fine between the two of them.

Soon those Daniel asked her a pretty personal question. Instead of answering, Iliana avoided it and got her breakfast before returning. His sudden question left her without thought and she tried coming up with an answer. Her attention was diverted when she saw Mason come in quickly before leaving. She was tempted to ask him how Andy was was, but with him in a hurry to leave, she felt it best to let him be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nelly watched as the young woman composed herself and greeted her. She giggled when the woman's stomach growled.
"So how long have you been at this camp? I know I'm a few days late, so I hope I haven't missed anything big."
"I just got here myself the other day, so I was late too. And you've missed a few big things. I've missed some big things here, and not just the past few days. Seems a lot of stuff happened last summer because some campers were here last year and what happened then is affecting events now. So what do you want first? The good, the bad, or the ugly? I can only tell you what I know, which isn't a whole lot unfortunately. Oh before I forget, what's your name and who is your divine parent? Mine is Hermes."
The girl then asked where the food was and Nelly was glad she knew where it was from here. Suddenly Mason showed up and told them where to go. Always wanting to have the last word, Nelly called after him.
"I know where it is, but thank you DADDY!" she yelled with a laugh.
Looking at the new girl, she said, "That's Mason, he seems to think I need a babysister. You best keep an eye on him, he's definitely part of the drama here. Still I don't know what to make of him."
Leading the other demigoddess to the main hall, she saw that Iliana was there with the guy who was with Cherise in the closet. Waving at them both, she led the new girl to the food.
Iliana waved to Nelly as she came in with another new face. She finally came up with an answer for Daniel when suddenly Ajax came in and sat by himself. His angry energy was easy to read and Iliana trembled in fear, trying her best to ignore it, but his angry energy seeped into her pours, making her nauseous. Suddenly a crash was heard and it startled both Iliana and Nelly as they watched Ajax leave the main hall. Iliana didn't want to admit it, but she was relieved when Ajax left because she was about to get sick. Taking deep breaths, she tried calming herself down. This had to stop. There had to be something she could do to help Ajax and Alex. What is was, she didn't know yet. Maybe walking around would help her? Decision made, she turned back to Daniel to finally answer his question and wrote in her notebook.
~Sorry, I wouldn't know who to kiss, I haven't even met everyone yet. Besides, it seems like all the boys I've met here so far are interested in someone and I would never want to step onto any toes. It was nice talking with you, but I am going to go for now. I wish you the best of luck with Cherise.~
With a bow she was soon out the door.
Nelly saw Iliana leave and looked to the guy she had been sitting next to. Looked like he could use some company. Turning to her companion though, she said, "Hey, sorry you had to see that. Things got intense last night. That there was Ajax, and I think he's Zeus's son. Feel free to get your breakfast. I am starved myself."
With that she got her own food and sat across from Daniel.
"Hi there, I don't think we've formally met yet. My name is Penelope Givens, but I prefer Nelly. My dad is Hermes. I saw you were enjoying yourself last night." she said with a grin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Iliana was nervous and took slow steps, but then relief filled her when she saw other campers, one of them being Alex. Next to her was Wesley. Trinity was with the other huge demigod and Sylas's sister. Deciding to talk to Alex, the blonde walked toward her and Wes and saw instantly felt her emotions. Guilt, so much guilt. Holding back her own emotions, Iliana quickly addressed both her and Wesley. Going on instinct, she wrote something done.

~Morning. Sorry to interrupt you, but I wanted to talk to you Alex. I don't know if you remember me, we only met briefly before the trial. My name is Iliana and I just wanted you to know that I have problems controlling my powers when my emotions are all over the place. I hope you don't mind me asking this, but do you remember what you were doing before you lost control of yourself? My mother use to tell me that if I knew the cause of what sets me off, I could try to find a way to prevent it from happening.~

Internally, she wasn't sure if this was a true solution. She knew intense emotions set her off, but she still struggled to control her own reactions to them.

Liam noticed that Trinity lept out of view via a sudden dash of blond hair behind one of Wes' shoulders. The man just sort of sucked on his teeth for a second and swept his attention to Wes. "Wes, my dude!" he greeted unabashedly, giving poor Wes an all-too hard punch to the shoulder that was meant to be more of a tap, but wasn't.

"I'm guessing you're here for Trinity," Wes assumed with a sigh, and Liam didn't blame him. If that little dash of blond meant anything, it was that Liam is ruining what is probably a lovely morning for the couple. On a normal day, he wouldn't dream of doing something like this, but Sloane was kind of a priority at the moment. Sylas was haunting his mind - especially after Trinity made him feel about one inch tall for not killing the asshole when he should have. He knows something is coming. He can feel it in his gut. Maybe it is his prowess for combat tactic or just some new pervasive fear, but Sylas wasn't going to stay away for very long.

Then Trinity finally emerged. Just to make a dramatic flair of it all, he put a hand against his chest and feigned surprise, "Oh, shit - didn't see you there!" Then he added insult to injury and gave her a really dumb grin, "Nice dress." It was clearly in jest, but Trinity was well within her rights to hate him. Now that he knows that she's his sister, he is also well within his rights to be a dumbass brother. Liam was in no short supply of dumbass.

"This probably requires appropriate clothes. I can meet up with you guys in a minute.” He gave her a thumbs up and then looked at Wes, "She hates me." Yet, it didn't sound like something he was disappointed by. In general, people hate him.

He glanced over Wes' shoulders and kind of winced a time or two as the woman abused the drawers in his room. Then she re-emerged, and he wasn't going to make further jokes about her clothes. Trinity was here to help, and he's more than grateful for that. Teaching women how to fight was not his domain. Teaching anyone how to do anything but pump some iron was not his domain. He could help Sloane with a lot of things, but fighting dirty is a woman deal. He's pretty sure of that, anyway.

“How do we wanna do this, chief?" Trinity questioned, but then she looked over at Sloane.

"I have some thoughts but figure you've been here longer and I don't know shit about this god stuff."As Wes tossed the water bottle, he caught it, popped off the lid, and just about sucked the entire bottle into his mouth. The plastic crinkled, and it didn't appear he took a breath at all. He crushed what wasn't already flattened and started the walk. He let the ladies take the lead and hung around the rear, but still within hearing distance.

"Have you hit someone before, Sloane?" That inquiry seemed to draw Sloane's gaze back to him, and while he wasn't particularly skilled at trying to help one's confidence, he tried. He gave her a thumbs up and a quick encouraging smile. "No, but I've made one person hit another."

He leaned closer to Wes and dropped his tone, "What does it mean when you hit on a woman and the woman you are with is upset by it, but she is still saying that I should do my thing? On a scale of 1-10 - if I stared at another woman's boobs and told her that I would do bad things to her in front of said other woman, how much trouble am I actually in? And should I stay away from other women for the rest of my life?" Whenever Sloane would look back at him, he would just smile at her and pretend like he's not trying to figure her out by talking to someone else.

After a bit of guy talk, Trinity and Sloane seemed to stop and Liam was following their lead. He had intently allowed the two to chat amongst themselves before he approached. "My thought was that we teach her how to defend herself," he advised, looking between Trinity and Sloane. He held both of his hands up, palm out in defense of himself before any questioning begins, "All she has to do is get her hand on someone, right?" he looked to Sloane for confirmation. It all sounded rather simple when she sort of explained it earlier before the party. "We just have to train her to utilize quick defensive movements - brushing a hand away, whatever it may be - to allow her to use her own power to do the fighting for her. I mean, think about it."

Oh, this was going to come out all kinds of discombobulated, but he meant really well. He took a few steps back to avoid the wrath of his own sister, and maybe even a scathing eye from Sloane. "We're on a different playing field. Even in the normal world, people train for years to learn how to fight. We are not going to train Sloane in a day or even a week. She's small, so right there she's disadvantaged against at least more than half of the camp. But she knows her powers, so she just needs to learn how to use them to do the fighting for her. But her power is control over another person. It's no small power. It has... endless uses in a fight. You probably know the folks around here better than me. I think I dropped out of school before I learned anything about mythology. You're more experienced in this area..."

Just as it seemed that he might turn away and let the girls do what they do, Liam slowly turned around. He stared at Trinity for a few quiet minutes. It was really just a couple of seconds, but it felt like a long time. His hands clenched and unclenched as he tried to find a soft way to put this. "She just needs to stop being afraid to do what she has to do. She has no confidence. You can teach someone to fight... but that won't mean anything if... you know..."

He kind of just gave Sloane this cautious sideglance. There really wasn't another way to ease into that. Sloane was meek and gentle, and he wasn't sure that would translate well when it comes down to Sylas. There was no if with Sylas. It was a matter of when, and that could happen anytime. He stepped over to her and gently grasped her right shoulder, "Just tell yourself that today is the day you're not going to take any more shit. You got this," he released her and gave that same shoulder a much more gentle pat than he had Wes earlier.

That said, he turned away and made for that log to plop his ass down.

“No,” she answered. Bummer. Trinity’s lips pursed to the side but then Sloane added in. “But I’ve made someone else hit someone.”

Trinity visibly perked up at that. It wasn’t what she was expecting but it was a start. “Well, that's something. How'd you feel afterwards?” Oh, who was she kidding, she was no therapist. Whether they deserved it or not or how Sloane felt was irrelevant to what Trinity really wanted to get to.

“I was actually going to suggest you hit me.” She instantly became aware how much that could have sounded like an excuse for herself to hit something rather than Sloane's benefit. “Or any other person or object. I just think you must be furious about being in your circumstances.” Then again Trinity's go-to emotion was anger and that's what she understood best. Others coped and felt differently. Still, if Sloane wanted to swing, Trinity popped her hands up.

“My thought was that we teach her how to defend herself,” Liam approached. Whether in relation to Trinity's method or it was always his own master plan, Trinity guiltily lowered her hands. “All she has to do is get her hand on someone, right? We just have to train her to utilize quick defensive movements - brushing a hand away, whatever it may be - to allow her to use her own power to do the fighting for her. I mean, think about it.”

She arched a brow and looked back at Sloane to see how it was sitting with her but let Liam carry on in one piece. Along his speech, Trinity's eyes narrowed, particularly at the point of saying Sloane was small and therefore disadvantaged. Buuut he had his points. Obviously, they couldn't train her to be an instant professional fighting machine and defensive gestures to execute her powers seemed the most doable but...there were so many buts. Trinity took in a breath. For one, she was also a high school dropout and maybe she knew more about mythology than him but that was still minimal. Two, wasn't Sloane's parasite brother her biggest threat? Demigods with the same or similar powers often ended up being ineffective against each other.

“Liam..” she began, to fire her uncertainties at him.

He turned back to her. He looked like he had something to say so she found herself waiting. “She just needs to stop being afraid to do what she has to do. She has no confidence. You can teach someone to fight... but that won't mean anything if... you know...”

Again, he had a point but she was right near them. “She needs confidence so I'm going to say this to you and not to her.” Trinity was almost insulted for her, staring at Liam at his audacity then checked on Sloane. Her brother meant well, so did she, but their communication about nine times out of ten needed work. “Right,” Trinity answered.

Then he did thankfully address the lean brunette. It wasn't a big exchange because soon enough he headed for the log again. Trinity stepped up beside Sloane, arms crossed. She had one burning counter-point to let off her chest. “Size doesn't matter,” she told her lowly. It didn't help if you didn't know what you were doing, but, it wasn't as big a disadvantage as people made it. Her boyf-..Wesley's build was fit for fighting yet he hadn't thrown a fist or shoved anyone that she'd seen. All the while, she was quite short and knew how to get in range of her target.

“I guess I'll be guinea pig then.” She clapped her hands stepping in front of the girl now. “Some of us have reflexive powers, but I need to know you're in control of yours.” She wasn't getting voodoo'd for trying to help a girl with her confidence and combat. Unawares anyway.

In the event of accidental power usage, she supposed there was Wes to subdue some nasty effects. When she looked to him, he was busy in conversation with Alex and Iliana. There goes the cavalry. She couldn't look there too long anyway because she wanted to hurt Alex. Very badly for what she did to Andy.

Trinity glanced at Sloane then struck out her hand to clasp Sloane's shoulder seeing the brunette's reflexes and instinct to being grabbed suddenly. People weren't attacked with warning.

Trinity didn't hold her too long. At least she didn't think she did before letting go. From there, Trinity pulled back on her blows so they never made contact giving Sloane ample opportunity to counter or defend as habit, or perhaps as Liam's commentary lead. This continued for some time until Sloane got in a rhythm of hitting Trinity's wrist away. “Perfect.”

She upped the pace and ditched the 'almost contact'. But even Trinity knew the difference between training, a spar, and an enemy battle. She never struck Sloane with an Ares blow. Growing tired of the same riff-raff, Trinity drew Sloane in with the typical pulled punch, set a leg behind hers and threw her hip and shoulder into the girl to put her off balance. She then swiftly spun behind Sloane and wrapped her arm around her neck. Not too tight but she did want to keep the trainee on her toes and aware she had slipped into a vulnerable position. Maybe she should startle the fellow demigod more and tighten her grip...see how she reacted with panic.

“Do you trust him?” she whispered while they were close and released her promptly, stepping away.

“Liam, your turn.” Trinity would play ref for whatever it was worth. She found herself glancing around for Wes. He could probably help with powers and all matters of self-control. Or she could try to train him and convince him to use his powers against demigods for once too.
