The Gods predate man. Their reign powerful, eternal and revered. But since the dawn of the Gods, there have always been those sworn to end Olympus. The golden throne, the seat of the righteous, king of the Gods, Zeus. It is the core of their world. Many seek to destroy it, dethrone Zeus and end the reign of the Gods.

Camp Athens, a safe place for demigods, children of the Gods. A place for them to live, grow and train. That was the intent. The demigods were never supposed to be the warriors for the Gods. Their parents wanted them to grow up safe from the world that threatens to end them. But the ruler of the Underworld, Hades, sought after the golden throne for himself, the demigods had no choice but to fight.

The campers faced many trials that tested them on levels far greater than they ever imaged. It was but the first day of the summer, demigods flooding into the camp, when a minotaur stormed its way through. A distraction while a son of Zeus, Ajax, was stabbed by an Underworld blade and poisoned. When things seemed to die down, it was only the quiet before the storm. Ajax was later taken prisoner by Hades, only set free when his soul was taken from him in exchange for a daughter of Hecate.

And all the while, when some of the most powerful demigods were nowhere to be found, the rest of the campers had to band together to take down their toughest foe… A Hydra. Then there was death… at the hands of a God and at the hands of a daughter of Zeus. It seemed, when at their weakest, Hades attacked.

The war. Something the demigods had been preparing for, but never thought would come. Giants and minions flooded their way onto the grounds of camp. The Gods stood side by side with their children in a fight for Olympus. It tested them more than anything had before… And in the end, they succeeded. But not without great loss. Wounded, weak and broken, the demigods came together victorious.

It’s been a year since that war. New demigods have found their way to the camp. The heroes of the war found ways to cope with their losses and train harder. Although the war is over, no one can rest. Something lurks in the distance, like a storm on the horizon. They don’t know what it is or when it will come… But they must be ready.

WIPs will not be accepted x / / x WIP tends to lead to people assuming they do not have to complete CS. So, due to that I will not accept a character until the CS is completely finished. It helps us and you to have a fully flushed out character before you post.

Demigods x / / x There will only be two demigods per God. This keeps the number of characters at a balanced manageable level. Discussion could be made to potentially add another God, but we don't want to overload the RP. New characters can replace the deceased upon request. Their life and death had significance in the first year of Camp Athens, along with a few other characters who were important and will be mentioned like Alex and Ajax Valis, children of Zeus, who now reside in Olympus.

Reservations x / / x Reserving a character will be done through PMing mjolnir. Please feel free to message about availability. New characters will not be introduced until the next in game day due to this being a continuation of Camp Athens, just under a new GM. I request that you review that RP thoroughly before messaging about a role. I will gladly help you find a good starting point.

Character Guidelines x / / x A good mix of male and female roles would be appreciated. That doesn't necessarily mean each God has a male and female child, but that throughout an even amount would help the RP be balanced. Ideally, FCs should look close to the age of your character. Abilities shall be taken from the provided list. If you are wanting your character to have an ability not listed, please contact me and we shall discuss it.

Inactivity x / / x Inactivity and ghosting is a plague in RPG. It seems people cannot stick to RPs for the life of them. I get it, life happens... It happens to all of us. But, we all want RPs to succeed. So, that being said, if life happens please just contact us and let us know, we are very understanding. If you're MIA from OOC, posting or PMs without explanation or word, we do reserve the right to write past your character if it's keeping us in limbo. I'd rather you back out of the RP versus disappearing. There is zero tolerance for ghosting in this RP and characters will be removed if you disappear.

General Rules x / / x Violence, adult language and adult situations will happen so if you cannot handle that you may not want to join. I encourage romance, it’s fun and we all enjoy complicated romance stories. Kissing and what not is fine, but when this get handsy... or naked. Just fade to black, and have your characters imply it later or whatever. We have imaginations, plus site rules and stuff :p Don’t control someone else’s character without their ok, this includes their NPCs. Also this meant to be fun so please no OOC fighting. Any issues can be directed through me and I'll handle it :)

Iliana personally hated watching these duels and time after time, kept covering her eyes as she felt emotions run high throughout each. At least they weren’t overly negative, just intense. She hated feeling like such a coward. Still, her curiosity kept her watching. The duel between Posiden’s son and Andy was intense. Still, the new guy put up a good fight, even though he lost in the end. As nice as the guy was to her though, she was glad Andy won. She imagined her fight might be similar since she had elemental powers too. She had no hopes of winning since she couldn’t control them. At least from the sound of it, these fights wouldn’t result in actual physical harm. Still the dreaded, β€œWhat if” words swirled in her mind.

Next was Mason and Evelyn and that was another intense duel, even though the duel itself was vastly different from the previous one due to the abilities of both combatants. Every now and then, Iliana kept looking around the arena to see if she could spot the person with an orange token like hers. She was relieved she didn’t have to fight her brother or Ethan though. That would have torn her apart. The third duel was one that definitely got her attention. Sylas and Cherise. She hadn’t interacted with Cherise at all yesterday and did admit she missed her company. Sylas seemed to act like a perfect gentleman as he escorted her onto the field, but Iliana would be lying if she didn’t admit she feared the man and what he was capable of. She at least hoped that Cherise would at least be more aware of him now. Iliana herself was in no rush to interact with Sylas herself, but she would act cordially to him until he gave her a valid reason not to. The duel itself was fast.

Like everyone else, Iliana covered her eyes as the entire arena lit up instantly. Slowly opening her eyes, Iliana was a bit frazzled as she tried to recover. Who knew Cherise had that much power in her? Oh, she knew Apollo had such powers, but she only saw him use his healing powers. She recovered by the time Sylas grabbed hold of Cherise. In no time at all the girl surrendered. Why? All that Sylas did was hold her. He must have the ability to make her do something he wanted and that caused Iliana to shudder.

After that, Wes appeared in the Arena. Again, Iliana was relieved she didn’t have to fight someone she got along with and she did like Wesley. Maybe it was because he was the first camper she met and she knew he wasn’t a fighter. His opponent was someone she never saw before. Looks like new campers were still showing up. As the duel started, Iliana did hope Wes would win, despite the fact that the other duellist was proficient with fighting. Sadly, Wes did lose, but at least the winner was respectable and seemed nice. She did catch the girl’s name. Another Hera kid? Well this one seemed a lot better then the last two that were here. And she also caught the Irish accent. Still, Iliana was relieved to see Wes was okay.

The next duel wasn’t really a duel at all. It was Liam, and that new guy Lochlan. Iliana still wondered if Lochlan had anything to do with her voice returning. She couldn’t help but worry as Liam entered the arena, and she gasped when he effectively knocked out his opponent before the arena could even change. However, what happened next definitely put Iliana on edge as she watched Liam tower over Lochlan. She sighed in relief when he returned to the benches, sitting next to Sloane, no less.

After that it was Duke and Sloane. Watching the duel, Iliana couldn’t help but admire Sloane for persevering. It was admirable and Iliana hoped to be more like her in that aspect. Despite how brutal it got, Sloane came out on top.

Once Sylas left to his duel, the Daughter of Poseidon leaned forward; an elbow to a thigh and chin cupped in the palm. Fingers tip-tapped curiously at her chin and jawline. Cherise was the social butterfly of the group thus far – a cloying sweetheart that anyone would have to be a monster to beat down cruelly. Liv knew that the creature in the arena with the woman was a sly beast just looking for any opportunity to strike at someone. She wondered if Sylas hungered for it, too, like herself.

In the end, as Liv expected, Sylas spared the Daughter of Apollo. There was no need to squash her like the annoying little bug she was when it would be undeniably far too easy to do so. If he had done that, he might as well as sign away any chance he has at working his schemes through the camp. It was a good choice, and Liv admired his restraint when his opponent could have been humiliated a lot more than she was.

It might be a lot better to have Cherise on his side. For now.

It was her turn soon enough, and she wondered which unfortunate soul would end up in the arena constructed partly with Poseidon’s design. She hoped that they could swim – if not, oh well.

She stood, turned, and held the orange token in the air, "Who brought their bathing suit?" There was the hint of a dark knowing smirk that dashed across her lips. Liv was friendly, for the most part, but it seemed that it had changed. A series of events likely tipped her over into the more violent side of Poseidon, or maybe it was just a matter of time before she had to make that choice – to be good or bad.

Without another word, or even concern over who might stand, she turned her back on the group and headed for the arena.

Iliana heard Liv speak up and turned to look to see her holding up the other orange token. Apparently, Heath and Ethan saw it took. Iliana’s face turned white. Her brother and Ethan looked concerned too. They already got a taste of what an offspring of Poseidon could do when Nicholas and Andy dueled. Looks like this duel was going to be very similar to that one since both ladies had elemental powers, but since Iliana had very little control of her powers, this match would be extremely unpredictable. Iliana began shaking again, terrified of what she might do, but Ethan placed his hand on hers.

"It’ll be fine Iliana. No one can get seriously hurt in these duels, remember? Just do your best." he said.

Heath nodded in encouragement too. Taking a deep breath, Iliana got up and headed to the arena also.

When she reached it, she approached Liv and said, "Liv, I am going . . . . to apologize ahead of time if I hurt you badly . . . I have . . . . a hard time controlling . . . . my powers . . . because of my . . . emotions."

Her voice was still scratchy and it would take some time before it sounded normal again. At least she was making progress there though.

"Oh, little Mouse – you will be sorry, but not for the reasons you think," she warned her coldly.

Right then and there, the Arena began to mold to the powers and abilities of the two newest contestants. First, it shook and trembled, spires and steps of stone jutting forth. Then water flooded in between the crevices like a rushing river. Trees and fauna and flora entered; the flying of birds, the swish of marine life, and more. The child of the ocean and the one with command over nature and weather formed a space that was a fusion of the sea and a forest all in one. There were areas one could walk; with grass and trees sprouting from its surface. There were places where one could find themselves in the deepest of depths; swallowed by the sea and truly β€œswimming with the fishes”, as it were.

Liv was elevated by one of the jutting spires of stone, a far distance from her opponent. "Little Mouse – show me what you got." The smile that crossed her face was devious. It’s a good time to see what Iliana had up her sleeves. You know – for future reference.

Liv’s words confused Iliana a bit, but not before the space around and between them changed. She was not ready for it either and staggered as a pillar of stone pushed her into the air. Iliana was glad she wasn’t afraid of heights, but it was still unnerving. She looked around at the scenery. Under normal circumstances, she would have been comforted by it, even the water, but the situation was anything but normal. Even with her abilities, she knew that Liv had the upper hand for the demi-goddess was brimming with confidence. It made Iliana want to be more like that as far as wanting to control her own abilities. Once things settled and the arena was ready, Liv spoke out to her one last time. Even with the great gap between, Iliana could hear her.

"Very well. I’ll try," she responded, hopefully loud enough for Liv to hear her.

Thinking about what she could do first, Iliana went over her abilities. While she had killed using her agrokinesis ability, it was still her best skill, so she would try that first. Kneeling down, she placed her hand on the ground. The ground beneath Liv started to shake when suddenly multiple vines sprouted from the sides of the pillar and aimed right for Liv in an attempt to immobilize her.

The daughter of Poseidon leaped into action as soon as the ground began the quake. Quick on her feet, she managed to avoid a vine or two. Some of them swiped at her heels, waist, and other parts of her body until two eventually ensnared her. A tight feeling snaked around both her right wrist and waist, putting Liv to a dead stop.

A smirk curled across her lips; it was dark and amused but only for a split second. As the vine around her waist squeezed tighter and tighter, Liv put on a play of over-dramatics and started to give off desperation in her voice, "Iliana! You’re… you’re k-killing me! Aaaah!" She put on a very real display of struggling against Iliana’s power, "Iliana, control yourself!!!"

Iliana panicked the moment she heard and saw Liv struggle. The vines actually did squeeze tighter but stopped when Iliana snapped out of it. Not wanting to make the same mistake again, she actually did recall the lessons Heath’s aunts taught her, to always focus on her breath. Her need to not hurt anyone like that again overrides any other feeling for if she would have been paying attention to Liv’s feelings she would have not felt any pain prior to her shouting. The vines began to loosen around Liv as Iliana made sure she was placed on solid ground before vanishing back underground. Iliana was now torn on what to do so she decided to see what the demigoddess would do next.

Liv decided to waste no time. The instant her feet hit the ground, she smirked. That was very easy. Waiting would be Iliana’s downfall, or so that’s was the Demigoddess of the sea thought. She put her arms out to her sides and the sea water began to disappear from their pockets. A slight tremble of the Arena floor might suggest that it all slithered underground. When she rose her hands upward, the water erupted all around Iliana. She clapped her hands together, closing the jet streams, officially engulfing her opponent in a wall of sea. It would feel like Iliana was drowning, and drowning always caused panic. Liv liked to see people squirm a little bit - like Duke the other morning.

It would feel endless. The current was only strong enough to lift Iliana slightly off of her feet, but not enough to jet her upwards completely.

Iliana knew Liv had power over water like Nicholas did, but she still wasn’t expecting to be surrounded by water. Caught off guard, she soon realized her predicament. Iliana had closed her eyes when the water engulfed her, but when she tried opening them, the saltwater stung them instantly. Now she was in trouble and she began to fear what was going to happen. In her desperation, she tried swimming in any direction, but the current proved to be troublesome. She tried quieting her turbulent mind. As a result of her panicking, the weather outside started to change as the wind picked up. She knew she was running out of time and could feel her lungs starting to burn. Suddenly, an idea jumped into her head at the last minute. Thrusting her hand forward, vines bursted out beneath her and wrapping around her, it literally threw her out of the wall of water in her desperate attempt to get out of the situation. She landed hard on the ground though and groaned in pain as she tried regaining her breath, leaving her totally vulnerable to any other attack.

Liv was not one to give her opponents any openings or relief, so she was on the attack once again. Even though Iliana posed no threat at all, a quick elimination was in order. All of this manipulation over the water was a little tiring, after all. Those pillars of rushing sea still gushed from the ground, so the Daughter of Poseidon began to make hasty motions with her hands. Bolts of water came at Iliana from all directions in an attempt to just overwhelm her. Yes, it would also hurt as they collided with the girl, but that was not the end goal. Submission was the only thing Liv wanted, as the sky above was beginning to warp with Iliana’s emotions. That would be annoying.

Iliana wasn’t prepared for Liv’s next attack. The water hitting her felt like being hit by a freight train on multiple fronts. She tried to think of something, but she was exhausted by this point, mentally and physically. Not being able to take it anymore, she threw in the towel.

"I . . . . surrender . . . "

The instant she said that the attack stopped and the arena turned back to normal. It takes Iliana some time to catch her breath, but when she does, she manages to stand up and walk back to her seat, where she instantly collapses onto Heath, who allows her to lay her head on his lap.

Liv did not stick around for kind words, either. She went back to her seat with a mild disappointment that she didn't get to pull off something more... dangerous. Maybe next time.

Ethan felt bad for Iliana. He knew she didn't want to fight, but rules were rules. He saw her downtrodden look when she returned, orange token in hand. At least he didn't have to fight her or Heath. Looking at his green token, he wondered who he'd have to face. Well, he'd have to wait and see, won't he?

The first duel was between Nicholas and Andy. The duel was very intense, and Ethan couldn't but gap in awe at the two combatants. It seemed to be going back and forth until Andy finally came out on top. However, both she and Nicholas were exhausted. Even watching them tired him out. He knew with his own abilities; his duel wouldn't be as intense since he powers leaned more to supportive and defensive, rather than offensive.

He wouldn't worry about that yet for soon the next duel started and it was Mason and Evelyn. Now this duel definitely interests him more since he had more interaction with one of them, Evelyn. He genuinely like the redhead and hoped to get to know her better. So, it was hard to watch her duel with Mason, who was definitely intimidating. Evelyn did put up a good fight, but Mason did win in the end. Ethan was glad there seemed to be no permanent injuries at least. That was good. Of course, Nicholas did say there was to be none of that anyway, but Ethan wanted to be reassured of what he said was true.

The third duel was between Cherise and Sylas. Ethan watched as the man escorted the girl to the fighting area. Much like Evelyn, he also like Cherise, even though the girl and her friend, Rae, scared the crap out of him that one time when they pulled him in for a dance. Man, had it already been a few days ago? It felt like ages with all that had happened. Ethan didn't know what to expect from this fight, especially with Sylas involved. One thing he wasn't expecting though was to be blinded by an intense light. He covered his eyes much like every else when that happened. The duel didn't last long, even though it was very action pack. Ethan was pleasantly surprised to see just how efficient Cherise was with a quiver, but that's because she was Apollo's daughter right? Still once Sylas got a hold of her, it ended pretty quickly. Looking carefully, Ethan wondered if Sylas used some kind of mental power to make the girl submit. It had to be the case. Looking at Sylas, Ethan wondered if he was just 'playing it safe' for now considering what his trial revealed yesterday. The guy was obviously smart, so that wouldn't surprise him.

After their duel it was Wesley and some new girl. Wondering who she was, Ethan paid close attention to the action. The duel itself was surprising for Wesley had some good tricks up his sleeve, but even in the end even he lost. Still the fact he held out for that long gave him some hope for himself for he had NO fighting experience whatsoever. He couldn't figure out which God the new girl belongs to, but she was definitely cunning. At least the duel ended amicably. Ethan did hear the girl introduce herself as Hera's daughter though. Oh boy, another Hera child, but this one looked and acted decent at least. After the pair left, another new camper appeared. Ethan wondered just how many new campers would show up. He had seen Nicholas lay his head on some unknown girl's lap and he recalled that one bit of commentary this morning after the duel announcement. Not wanting to think of that moment again, his eyes looked at the new guy.

Seeing Liam join him definitely made Ethan nervous. Not even waiting for the arena to change, the Liam just hits the guy square in the fact in a quick knock out. Ethan winced, feeling bad for the guy. At least Liam left the arena without doing anything else. After that there was a very close match between Sloane and Duke, but Sloane managed to win, barely, but she won. It was times like this Ethan was glad the injuries people had would magically go away right after the fight.

His thoughts were interrupted when Liv spoke, and he saw her orange token. His gaze shifted to Iliana, who had turned white. Oh dear, this was not good. Iliana looked stricken and Ethan quickly placed his hand on top of her hand.

He said gently, ”It’ll be fine Iliana. No one can get seriously hurt in these duels, remember? Just do your best.”

He saw Heath nod in acknowledgement too. This seemed to calm Iliana down a bit as she took a deep breath and head for the arena herself. The two briefly interacted before the duel began. Much like the first one it did involve elemental abilities. Ethan winced at the beating Iliana took for Liv was much more aggressive than her brother. At least Iliana got one hit in before being defeated. When she returned, she pretty much collapsed on top of Heath and ended up laying her head on his lap. Heath himself didn't look happy and something seemed to be on his mind, but Ethan would wait to ask him what was up after the duels were done.

The longer the duels went on, the more uncertain Veronica could feel herself becoming; she wasn’t a fighter. Flighter most definitely, given how she’d rarely stuck out any meaningful confrontation in her life. Except when it came to her mother, she thought. The one and only time she could remember standing up for herself was to bemoan her very existence.

Glancing around the array of demigods she briefly caught the gaze of the girl who had recently beaten a guy who could only be her brother; the girl nodded towards the arena and gave her a smile of encouragement and a wink. The moment was fleeting, but it was a rare one of support since it was something she’d often lacked; even here other than Heath she mostly felt alone. Though, perhaps having a sibling might provide her with a sense of stability that her other family had so often failed to do; but she didn’t allow herself to dwell too much on such hopes.

Taking advantage of the lull following the previous duel, Veronica stood up and made her way over to the trio containing her opponent. Holding out her green token she smiled first at Heath then towards Ethan, perhaps a little more nervously than she’d hoped before speaking.

”Hey, I’m Veronica. I think I’m up against you. If you want to go next, maybe?” Her resolve was already beginning to flake as she wrapped her arms around herself tightly, the token tapping against her upper arm while she moved to take a shuffling step back.

Ethan was surprised to see someone come near them. Her words also drew Heath's attention too. Iliana had fallen asleep by this time.

"Oh, sure. I am Ethan, Hestia's son. After you."

Heath wished him luck. Waving at them, he followed Veronica down into the arena.

When Veronica stepped onto the sandy floor of the arena, she could feel the warm air trickling over her skin as it carried with it the sweet scents of her deepest desire that seemed to pull her from the moment into a reverie associated with each. Her attention was brought back as Ethan joined her, with his presence bringing about a more visible change to their surroundings to suit both of the combatants' needs. Greek pillars popped out of the ground and some structures. A table of weapons appeared also. Ethan approached it, but he had no idea what to pick since he had no weapon training whatsoever.

"You know it's a darn shame we can't play a simple game. I love playing dominos hehe," he said awkwardly, trying to make light of the situation. In the end he settled for a bō staff. He didn't know how to use it, but it was better than nothing and he wasn't bound to use a blade for obvious reasons.

The selection of weapons arrayed was impressive and, if she was being honest with herself, rather daunting. Obviously, she’d played pretend as much as any, and her years in drama had seen her make use of dozens of props and tools but that was a far cry from any of the incredibly deadly implements before her. After a failed attempt to lift some of the heavier weapons and sending a sword flying from her hands after a couple of practice swings, she instead settled on a rather plain pair of fighting sticks that she could at least wave around without falling over.

Seeing Veronica picked out her own weapons, Ethan offered his hand and said, "Good luck and let's try to end this as painless as possible."

Veronica paused for a moment as she looked down at the outstretched hand, her eyes flickering to the own before she tucked one of her fighting sticks under the other arm so she could return the gesture, wondering if he’d waited till the most awkward moment to wish her the best. ”Um, yeah. Sure. You too.” She had her doubts she could do much to him, and she had no idea what she was in for especially after some of the spectacles she’d seen from the others.

After that, Ethan walked away from her and stood at a good distance. He wanted to try and think of what he could do before actually making a move. Instantly he went over his abilities and figured his best options were to use his ability to change structure, or he could try to use his serenity inducement to calm Veronica down to the point where she wouldn't want to fight. As he tried to figure things out, he eyed Veronica closely.

She hadn’t known what to do at first but singing softly to herself she’d begun to dance to the tune, her movements starting slowly and uncertainly but becoming more purposeful and driven as a smile spread upon her lips. While she could often struggle in more social situations the grace and majesty she could project on stage was returning as she faced off against her opponent, a warm calm that filled her with purpose. After all, what was the duel but simply a performance of her talents?

The moment Veronica started to dance, Ethan could instantly feel her power affect him and he knew he was dealing with another Aphrodite child. But lucky for him he also had the ability to influence other's emotions, so he had a bit more immunity, but it wouldn't last for long though. He instantly used his own serenity inducement on himself, he had to stay calm. But it was hard, for Veronica was very good with what she was doing. He had to think of something quick or he be done for. He had to prevent her from getting any closer to him. Suddenly it dawned on him on what he could do. As long as he had structures around him, he could manipulate them into any form her chose. This included the bō he held, he held it to the ground, causing it to change form and branch out into many forms, slowly creating a maze around them. It did it's intended purpose, it stopped Veronica from reaching him, but Ethan knew like all mazes, there would be a way to get to him.

Though she had been edging closer and closer to her foe, weaving an alluring figure as she swayed from foot to foot, she had felt the ground beneath her feet twisting as they reshaped to trip her. Rather than closing the gap between them to allow her to attempt to reduce her opponents resolve she could feel her plans unravelling as the arena around them was becoming a twisting nightmare that reminded her of something from Escher; already she was weapon-less having lost one then both as the arena’s maze had thrown her off-balance while it had formed.

Wherever Veronica was, Ethan had to seal all of her exits. First, he had to figure out where she was. Maybe he could change the material the maze was made out of. Thinking for a few minutes, he figured something out. Placing his hand on the wall in front of him, he changes the walls of the maze to become glass. Seeing Veronica, he saw her back was too him. Relieved to see she was okay physically. He changes the structure again so the glass connects to form one big dome around her, effectively trapping her inside. However, he did make sure there were breathing holes.

As she spun around trying to locate Ethan, what she’d at first thought was a hall of mirrors she instead realised was a glass dome that had rapidly formed around her and now seemed to be shrinking ever smaller with her inside. At first she’d tried to break her way free but her fists left no impact and neither did her shoes, so with no way out from her claustrophobic prison she’d had no alternative save but to surrender, curling tightly into a ball.

Once Veronica surrendered, the dome vanished completely. Instantly Ethan went to go check on her. "Hey are you okay? I am sorry if anything I did scared you. You actually did well, for I had to think on my feet there. Can I escort you back to your seat?"

Veronica lay on the smooth sand for a moment, her eyes closed as memories flashed behind her eyelids. It had been a long time since she’d felt trapped like that, and taking her a few shuddering breaths she regained some composure. It had only lasted a few heartbeats but it seemed to have stretched for hours. Uncurling from where she lay, she gingerly got to her feet and accompanied Ethan back up out of the arena.

”Thank you, I’m fine. Congrats on the win, that maze was neat; did you create it from memory or just in the heat of the moment? I don’t even think we β€˜fought’ like the others did, like neither of us met the other, you know?” she smiled at him wearily before detouring back to her seat when they joined the others.

It was all brawls and thrills, chases and pain, the way a good fight should be, but a few rang out with their more subtle/mental abilities. Involuntarily, her nose crinkled watching Wes and the other girl. Just cause there was a lot less punching and elbowing, slashing and stabbing than she'd like and a lot more close proximity and pressing against him than she cared for.

Wes even took a moment in the fight to glance at Trinity and flash a little smirk and wink, which while it fueled her with just a bit of pride and she could feel herself gush inside, she was more inclined to rise to her feet and point in the arena and shout for him to focus. It went on for a bit, Trinity nonetheless intrigued and judging her boyfriend's and the opponent's fight. But there had to be a winner and a loser, and Wes took the defeat. Trinity watched him travel all the way back to her, matching his smile then looked forward.

"Well, I used pheromones. Does that count?"

Trinity shook her head slowly with a slight smile but not in a disapproving way. More that she had painted such a stigma to herself that she was gonna grill his fighting style upon return. And really, he was on point about it. "I actually thought you did really well." She turned to him and smiled. Somewhere Trinity could even appreciate how much less effort it was to nestle into a guy and make him pass out rather than have to punch their lights out. And she didn't know the whole extent of Wes's powers and pheromones but again, less physical effort and an asset to the battlefield nonetheless.

Far less endearing was Liam, showing them how it’s done. Swift and to the point as ever although a certain suspense continued as he stood over his helpless victim. Rather than pummel him and break a bone or two-hundred and six, he chose to leave. But she should thank him for reminding her how much more satisfying it is to deck a moron.

A few more spars followed and then...well, why cause a lull? Trinity clapped a hand down on Wes’s knee before rising. "Black," she announced, making her way to the arena and holding it up.

Of all that remained, she got the daughter of Artemis. Trinity changed her stance to face the red-head side on as the arena shifted to cater for their needs. The women didn’t require much; a simple weapons rack and the vast open space of the gladiatorial floor.

Rae couldn’t remember if she had ever met Trinity, but the blonde looked unassuming. Yet, she’s also the Daughter of Ares, and after Liam’s less than spectacular but somehow still brutal performance with regards to Lochlan’s brief catnap, the Daughter of Artemis was not thrilled. At all. However, in the spirit of awesome girl power, she hoped to at least put on a show for their awaiting audience. She’d come out on the losing end, most likely, but she’d learn a thing or two. Rae didn’t believe in complete failures, just really hard - or in this case - painful lessons.

Not the kind to wait for the opponent to strike first or get the upper hand, Trinity struck out a kick for Rae’s legs followed by a combo of punches aiming high and low. She knew throwing any opponent off balance or on the defense straight away was useful but especially these Artemis spawns so the assault continued.

Rae was not a helpless girl, and she did know a thing or two about fighting. She held up her fists and forearms to her face, but Trinity’s blows were knocking back said appendages back into her face anyway. None of the blocking with either her legs, hands, or arms was going particularly well, and she was having a hard time staying on her feet. She could bound and duck and side-step, but only for so long. She was not about to win a bout of physical fighting with the Daughter of Ares.

In the flurry of assaults and defensive maneuvering, the panting redhead managed to somehow create some space. She couldn’t remember how only that she’s relieved to take a real breath and not hard panting and grunts. She know that Trinity wasn’t going all-in on her, or she’d have been floored like Lochlan already.

It was time. Rae’s eyes turned from their bright hazel to amber and very feline-like. The sounds that came from her body would be very audible - cracking of bones, shifting of organs, sprouting of hair, and the woman’s own throat crying out from all the pain. It was not easy to shift. From two-legged Demigod, she was now on all fours sporting a yellowish-brownish coat and a dark brown mane as the notorious king of the jungle - a lion. On all fours, the beast was a little over four feet and 500 pounds. It wasn’t amazing, but eh - it was the best she could do under all of the pressure. She roared loudly, then began to run at Trinity like prey. If the Ares child didn’t move out of the way quickly enough, she’d be pounced on, mauled, and bitten wherever Rae could sink the lion’s teeth and claws into.

It took Trinity a beat, somewhere between horrified and awe-struck to experience the transition up close, before she snatched up a sword from the rack to face the menacing roaring beast. She dove out of the way of the lion’s path, barely missing tooth and claw, heart-racing wildly. But it also excited her. It adrenalized her. She slashed at Rae being met with another display of large teeth that could easily rip her to shreds.

Humans were easier. Alert animals were harder to maneuver around and stab Trinity had come to learn quickly. Every plunge of the blade set for the large cat seemed to whiz by, merely trimming the mane, if anything, or the attack had to be withdrawn or diverted quickly to dodge her opponent's new array of natural weaponry. Still, Trinity couldn't do much else until she could obtain some range. However, trying to buy time became costly when Rae viciously swiped out and clawed her arm. Trinity instinctually lashed out in turn, hoping to inflict her own wound or at least slow the opponent in some form.

Trinity’s blade sliced open the lion’s shoulder, and there was a very cat-like yelping. If it could be called a yelp at all. It was a pained noise, nonetheless, with blood pebbling through its coat and quickly dripping to the sandy arena floor. But the lion was not too perturbed, as it was, after all - an animal. It saw Trinity as prey, even though it would find out soon enough that Trinity, was in fact, the predator. The animalistic brain did not realize that fast enough.

The crimson streaks drifting down from the blonde’s arm didn’t bother her in the slightest. And she wasn’t one to tend to injuries first. A new heat and love of battle could be seen flickering in her eyes, the first sign of ration leaving her. She spun away from the animal, sword twirling with her to threaten hot pursuit and with just enough space, raised her unarmed hand, palm upwards to conjure several weapons that would rain down on Rae if close enough. Not looking to control the conjured weapons, they plummeted downwards from where they temporarily spawned, whether serving as a piercing assault or distraction, Trinity swiftly rounded them and yanked the lion’s thick mane to the side to lower the head and avoid those teeth and threw a muscular leg over the broad shoulders.

The daughter of Ares was too strong for the lion. A few of the weapons that rained down pierced and maimed it. In a strange display, it attempted to buck Trinity off - but it was to no avail. Not that it meant the lion would submit just yet. There had to be a way to get this woman off of it, but damn if she wasn’t strong as hell. Much stronger than a mere beast.

The scene looked like a wicked though odd rodeo, Trinity trying to stay in position and wrestle control over Rae, who was in fact a large lion, onto her side and into submission. "Come on," she growled to herself. While trying to get the wild girl down, Trinity was also trying to juggle lion anatomy to know where the hell to attack to force forfeit.
"Fuck it. " Trinity grasped the jugular abruptly like her own hands were snakes, her fingertips the sharp fangs, her arms possessing the strength of a python and she held on with all her might.

The lion roared loudly and bucked back until it was on its two hind legs. The noise could have shaken the arena with its echo, but metaphorically so. It was loud. With Trinity still grappling it from behind, the creature’s back hit the ground pretty hard, eventually rolling onto its back.

Trinity didn’t cease her hold on the daughter of Artemis’s neck, it might’ve loosened but it wasn’t released until everything shifted to normal. No more weapon racks, no distortion of environment and no more lion. What she held onto became a naked red head causing Trinity to immediately release and shift away, flustered almost. "Sorry, " she said like she was somehow responsible for Rae’s exposure. "That was a pretty good fight." Because boy did it give her more respect for the raw power of wildlife. She lingered for a moment wondering about her responsibility with a very vulnerable ex-opponent in the ring.

When all was said and done, and the arena’s magic faded away, a nude Rae was left on the ground. Rae knew that she’d be too exposed for some of these PG-13 Demigods, but as she stood up and dusted her rear end off, the woman clearly had no shame. The secondhand embarrassment from Trinity, however, did make the redhead crack a smile. "Likewise, girlie. It was a real treat. I do love to see a strong woman in action," she gave the Ares child a wink. "Don’t worry. The human body isn’t all that great. Seen one, seen them all, they say."

Blair wasn't interested in these silly duels in the slightest. To her advantage whomever her partner was hasn't stepped up, which meant she got to sit there enjoying the sun and a pouty man-child on her lap. She had been mindlessly twirling a lock of Nick's hair while zoning out for who knows how long. But the less than subtle gasps and hoard of men pushing their way past caught her attention. When she looked up she was surprised to see a fiery redhead standing stark nude in the center of the arena. It seemed every person with a dick was pushing people out of their way for a better view, but no one was helping her.

She scoffed, rolling her eyes at the baseness of the male species, before giving Nick a gentle nudge so he'd sit up. "Duty calls," she informed him while grabbing her purse and stealing his towel.

At first, Blair tried shoving her way past the ogling boys but didn't seem to be making any progress. So rather than waste more time, her form shifted until it was as tangible as mist. She looked as though anyone could reach out and touch her, but their hands could pass through her visage as if she were a hallucination. With no one to stand in her way, she walked through the stand as if they were empty, passing through people like they didn’t exist.

She didn't ask permission to enter the arena. Blair simply ascended the stairs and dared anyone try to stop her. She met Rae in the middle of the battleground with a friendly smile. "Here you go, honey," she said while holding out her purse toward the redhead. "I always carry a spare outfit." Once free of her bag, she took the stolen towel and held it up so that it at least covered the parts that matter. Blair heard some groans of disappointment behind her, but it only made her snicker. It was girl code. Like giving a girl a tampon when she asks without question, or pretending to be her friend when creepy guys were bothering her. Like an unwritten rule.

Rae wasn’t surprised that someone came to help her out, as it was just girl code. Not that she’d be upset at Trinity for the lack of offering any clothing. It was Rae’s own fault that she was now standing here in the middle of the arena reaching out for the set of attire given to her by Blair. "Many thanks," she responded with a large and bright smile. She made sure to give Trinity one as well, so as to not leave her feeling any sort of way about this awkward situation.

She held up the clothing and tilted her head from side to side, "Fashionable choice. I’ll wash and bring it back to you later." That said, she just tugged everything on right there. No one at Camp should be very surprised by Rae’s shamelessness.

That simple smile gave Trinity some assurance that she'd be fine with the aid she now received and Trinity gave a nod to the amber-haired one and returned to the stands by Wes. She just wrestled a fucking lion. And it was terrifying and awesome. And now there was the tail-end of a peep show. Only in Camp Athens.

While Nicholas’ head rested in Blair’s lap, the towel overhead to both block the bright sun from shining an even brighter light on his shame, he just listened to the fights. If he were perfectly honest to himself, which he often was, he’d agree with everyone else that these were not best for training. The more likely outcome was that few Demigods would learn something about themselves, but the majority would just go through the motions and do what they do best.

His own fight, for instance, wasn’t really a spectacular display of his abilities. He already knew what he was capable of. The loss didn’t knock down his confidence, so much that he was briefly embarrassed that the Son of Poseidon was beaten by someone. Not a woman, just anyone at all. Gender was irrelevant. He didn’t know much about magic. He had the privilege of knowing a little bit about each deity, but that didn’t mean their offspring would inherit all of the same abilities or characteristics. He knew the most obvious culprits, like when he ended up close and personal with the Daughter of Aphrodite and his blood rushed down to his second brain.

It couldn’t be helped, but as the sparring dragged on, he found his eyes closing for a few moments. He was just going to close them, that was all. Just for a little while. However, between Blair twirling his hair and the exhaustion from exerting his powers, it was safe to say that he was actually pretty sleepy.

It wasn’t until Blair whisked the towel off of him and the back of his head hit the seat that he woke up. The little minx had gotten down the steps just in time for Nick to miss the full-frontal nudity. As nice as it would have been, Nicholas was certain that when you see one pair of tits, you’ve likely seen them all.

He stood up and yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and then stretching out a bit. When did he get so sore? He spared a glance toward Andromeda for a moment. If she met his gaze, he’d only give her his notorious finger guns in response. No flirting, just some friendly acknowledgment. Afterward, he looked around to see that no one else was getting up from their seats, so that much mean that the event was concluded. Finally. His stomach was feeling pretty empty.

After shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans, he walked down the stairs. After catching a certain enigmatic redhead in his peripheral, he walked backward two steps and cleared his throat. "So, well-rounded and mature - probably wish you didn’t give me that compliment." That was followed by an awkward chuckle because he wasn’t sure why he started to explain himself in a less than intellectual word vomit,

"But it was honestly not my fault!" He made various hand and arm movements to further illustrate his point, maybe. "It was that Aphrodite girl, I swear. She did something to me. Or the air around her did something to me. I like women - love them, but I’m more a romantic. Not that there’s anything wrong with one-night stands! Of course. I don’t discriminate against lifestyle choices and stuff like that." He just kept going, and going, likely not remembering to do much breathing between sentences.

In the end, he just blabbed, "She seduced me while I was still weak. I’m just a dumb man trapped in this body," He motioned over his own body with his hands, making himself now look arrogant and like a dog, "Yeah…"

He just blinked at her and decided it was probably better to just… go away. He had no idea what he was doing, so he just walked backward down a couple of steps. When he stumbled on one, he turned around to climb down normally.

After that was all said and done, he was down on the Arena floor to officially end the event. He hated this part because he just wanted to be a normal camp-goer, not the babysitter. He spared a moment to look at everyone and smile, attempting to bring a softness to his large and commanding presence. "Great fights. There’s not much to say other than… I’m ready to eat, so let’s get out of here." He didn’t want to waste anyone’s time.

When he was finished with the conclusion, he turned to walk out of the arena and head toward the main hall for some chow. He was starving. He charmed a couple of the ladies that make the food into providing something nice and hearty for a bunch of Demigods that just exhausted themselves. Given that he was the first on here, he helped himself to chicken, loaded potatoes, and asparagus. A lot of all of that. He’s a big boy and needed big meals. He’d wash it down with a tall glass of mostly ice water.

He ate quietly, keeping to himself for the most part. He’s a social creature but didn’t like the babysitter reputation. Nick wasn’t sure how he’d make friends if his sole purpose for being here was to β€œhold down the fort”. It was too much responsibility on the shoulders of a guy who may not be able to control a bunch of Demigods doing as they pleased. He didn’t even want to do that anyway.

There were only a few intriguing fights. Most of them were highly predictable due to the vastly contrasting abilities of the combatants. One of them, AKA Liam’s, was hardly eventful at all! As she watched, Liv found herself yawning from time to time and then checking her watch to see how many hours had passed by. As much as she enjoyed making someone cry, she’d prefer to do it in a less controlled environment.

Her brother, of course, just had to show off how spectacular a Daddy’s Boy could be. She was glad that Andromeda managed to knock him off of his pedestal. Not that it would matter much at all since he had a free ride to his father’s favor and kingdom. She scoffed at that thought. It must be nice to be the male spawn of a horribly sexist prick.

Sloane’s was mildly more interesting than others. Liv found herself at the edge of her seat wondering how much more the woman would be able to take. These were one of those battles where she could glean a little information. It seemed that Sloane was not as meek as she appeared. It wasn’t surprising. It’s the quiet ones you much watch out for, as the old proverb - or something, goes. Liv briefly glanced Sylas’ way, wondering what he thought of his sister’s perseverance. A painfully torturous one, at that.

Then she thought that Duke must be pretty brutal underneath all of that haughty goodness. To burn a woman like that, he had to have something in there that was highly disturbed. A light and devious laughter slipped from her lips at that thought, amused by it. Some Demigods were showing their true wicked capabilities without even realizing it.

Trinity and Rae were another pair that she watched. She hadn’t expected Rae to go full wildcat, but she went there. It was akin to some archaic man versus beast arena battle. There was blood and gore, and she was here for it. Both ladies displayed their various powers, but ultimately, the Daughter of Ares won. It was not an unexpected outcome. As great and powerful as a lion was, Trinity was far stronger, more durable, and capable.

After her Dear Brother’s great speech, she decided to vacate the arena.

Soon enough she was in the chow hall facing down her brother, who gorged himself with food like a pig. It grossed her out. How any woman could find that glutton attractive was lost upon her. A scoff left her lips, her eyes rolled, and she was soon out after grabbing an apple.

Nicholas didn’t bother giving her the time of day. He’d like to, but she was mean.

Poseidon’s daughter took a casual stroll down the pathway that wound and wound until her cabin was in view. Then it was decided that she didn’t want to be there, either. To the beach it is! She walked, and walked, and walked, tossing her apple core on the ground near a tree while she was at it. She stepped onto the beach sand and then into the sea, disappearing in the blink of an eye. When she reemerged it was on a series of rocks that jutted out suddenly from the ocean’s surface, and she leaned her back against it and crossed one leg over the other. It was almost like she had never been wet; the water just rolled off of her body and clothes.

She observed the sea in this pose like a queen watching her domain.

Heath watched the duels carefully. He was going to take full advantage of being a spectator and felt watching these duels could help him in his own. No duel was completely the same even though there had been similarities. Even before and after the duels, Heath watched the combatants' demeanors. He decided to not show any bias towards any of the duelists, until it was Iliana's duel. She had been terrified, but Ethan's words calmed her down. Knowing Liv and Nicholas were siblings, he already had an idea of what Iliana was up against. He listened carefully as Iliana interacted with Liv. He didn't like how the woman treated his sister and Iliana didn't seem to notice just how insulting Poseidon's daughter was. However she was telling her the truth too, that was until during the duel when Liv told Iliana was killing her. Iliana had been in perfect control until then. Heath mentally cursed. Liv was smart and used Iliana's fear to her advantage. After that, the duel got more brutal, but Iliana did surprise him in trying to get herself out of the precarious situation she was in. However in the end she did lose, which didn't surprise Heath, but he was still proud of her. Soon she returned to them and ended up laying her head on his lap and falling asleep, obviously exhausted. There seem to be a pause in between duels when Veronica suddenly appeared and addressed Ethan. This definitely caught Ethan off guard, probably because he wasn't expecting to be dueling a woman. Heath knew his friend had been raised to respect women due to his southern upbringing. So it was no surprised that Ethan escorted Veronica down into the arena. This duel was like the polar opposite of Iliana's duel. Ethan definitely went with his strengths. While Heath had seen Ethan use his abilities, he never saw him use them without careful planning. Seeing him think of a quick solution so quickly made Heath proud of him and just like what Ethan hoped, the duel did end without either party getting hurt. Heath had looked in Wesley's direction to see if he had figured out if Veronica was his sister. Even at a distance, Heath had felt her power affecting him even though it had been directed at Ethan.

As the duo returned to Heath, Ethan answered Veronica's question.

"It was a spur of the moment. My dad is an architect and I want to be one too, so I am used to careful planning when it comes to my powers. But I remembered that I can create anything as long as something has form. I can't create something out of nothing like Andy, the one who battled Nicholas."

Once the two part ways, Ethan sat down next to Heath.

"Well done," Heath said before the two friends continued to watch another duel.

Trinity and Rae's duel reminded Ethan of a Rodeo Bull ride when he went to Texas once with his father. Only a lot more intense. It was no major surprise Trinity did end up on top. What was unexpected was that Rae went full frontal and apparently had no problem barring all. Both Ethan and Heath looked away out of respect, but not before getting an eyeful of her obvious beautiful figure. It was a relief when the camper with Nicholas gave Rae something to cover herself. Several guys complained but for two very conservative men, Heath and Ethan were relieved. And that last duel also seemed to be the last one for Nicholas appeared in the arena to mention that. Heath wondered why but saw how much time had passed. Maybe they would pick things up another time. Heath looked down at Iliana and gently shook her shoulder.

"Lia, the duels are done for today," he said.

Iliana eventually came to and was surprised to see she had actually fallen asleep. She did feel a bit better though. Slowly sitting up, she looked at her brother.

"Wha?" she asked, her voice a bit groggy.

Heath smiled when he replied, "The duels are done for now. We can leave. Do you want to get something to eat? The sun is going down."

Iliana nodded and the trio left the arena and headed for the Main hall. They were almost there when they saw Liv leave and headed in another direction. This reminded Heath of the Iliana's duel and he decided to tell Iliana what happened.

"Um, Iliana, Liv lied to you during your duel. You weren't killing her. She did it to get the upper hand on you. You actually were in complete control of your power."

This caused Iliana to pause. Her eyes widen and sudden she felt anger, but not towards Liv, towards herself. She kept getting duped. Liv was a smart person and Iliana did inadvertently told her one of her weaknesses. She knew Heath nor Ethan wouldn't be so easily tricked.

Taking a deep breath, Iliana looked at Heath and Ethan and said, "I guess I better stop being naive then. I need to get stronger and smarter. I just don't know how."

Both guys thought about it before Heath spoke up.

"Why not ask Nicholas or some of the other girls here for help? Ethan and I will always be here to help you, but we're not experienced when it comes to fighting. We definitely need help in that area for sure."

Ethan nodded and the trio finally entered the hall, only to see Nicholas eating. When Iliana saw him, she thought of what Ethan and Heath said and made a beeline for him.

"Um, hi, sorry for interrupting, but I just wanted to ask you a quick question. You're here to help us train better right? I need to become a smarter fighter. Can you help me in that area? If you can't it's fine, I'll ask someone else."

Ethan and Heath allowed Iliana her space and got something to eat and sat nearby so they were within earshot.

Nelly enjoyed all of the duels. Having perfect visual memory, she knew she would be remembering everything she saw today. For her the most entertaining part was watching Liam knocking out one guy cold before the duel could even begin. She couldn't help but laugh at that, even though she did feel bad for the other dude. She was genuinely surprised when she heard Iliana speak. Wasn't the girl mute? She would ask her what happened when she got the chance. It was very interesting to see new campers show up. Nelly would have tried initiating her own duel, but another one would start up almost instantly. When Rae and Trinity's duel started, she was determined to get up and find out who had the same color chip as she did. That duel was definitely one of Nelly's favorites and she found herself laughing again after the duel was over. Rae had shapeshifted into a lion during the duel and when she changed back, she was in her birthday suit. What made Nelly laughed was some of the guys' reactions, especially Heath and Ethan's. It was obvious that most of the guys were enjoying the view though. Soon another new camper appeared and gave Rae something to put on. It wasn't long after that that Nicholas said the duels were over.

"Well shoot! I wanted to have my duel. Oh well," she grumbled before standing up and going towards the arena.

Approaching Rae, Nelly smiled and said, "Wow, Rae, that shapeshifting skill of yours was so cool. You and Trinity are awesome. Say maybe one day we have an all girls night and go skinny dipping hehe."

Nelly had been raised to be proud of her female body and so wouldn't be shy about baring all either.

"I actually thought you did really well," Trinity replied with a smile.

Wes was beaming from ear to ear. It wasn't often he got a compliment in regards to anything combative, especially not front Trinity. She was often trying to get him to try harder, so hearing he did good made him elated. It was like being told someone was proud of him. He couldn't recall if anyone has ever said they were proud of him. Wes always struggled with feeling like he was never enough... But to her, he was.

Without another thought or second's hesitation, Wes wrapped his arm around Trinity's shoulders, pulling her in a bit closer so he could place a tender kiss atop her head. "I love you, blondie," he mumbled quietly into her hair so that only she could hear him.

Wes kept her close with his arm around her as they watched an unknown face enter the arena. It wasn't unusual for there to be an influx of new campers showing up out of the blue, but he was still surprised at the how many he had seen... 4... 5? The guy looked to be searching for someone. His emotions were strong enough that even Wes could feel them, although he wouldn't say anything. He just sat their quietly and watched as he raised a token and Liam answered the call. The son of Ares was barely in the arena when the newbie seemed to find what he was looking for. Wes sat too far away to hear what he said, but apparently Liam didn't care. The kid was out cold on the ground before the fight had even started.

Next was Duke and Sloane. If he was a betting man, Wes would put his money on Duke. He had no idea the capabilities Sloane possessed, but she was quiet and mousy. Her reluctance to use her powers or fight reminded him a bit of himself and the sad truth is, he'd never put money on himself either. Duke seemed well fought and smart, plus he was battle worn from the year before. Wes isn't a warrior and even he knows that it changes people. But to his surprise, Sloane somehow kept holding on. The entire fight she was barely able to keep up, but she was smart. And in the end she won, by the skin of her teeth. He didn't know her well, but even found himself a little proud of her perseverance.

In a similar fashion Liv and Iliana were next. And while Iliana was a kind girl, even with her trial put on display for everyone the day before, Wes had a hard time believing that girl was capable of hurting a fly. The daughter of Poseidon, on the other hand, she seemed like she was always out for blood and didn't care who got in her way. So it came as no surprise that she managed to take Iliana's fear of others and twist it to her advantage.

Wes didn't even pretend to understand the intricacies of sparring and combat, but he tried his best to pay attention. Maybe he could learn something. But the next duel left him confused. There was dancing... and singing... and a maze? He didn't have a clue. Wes never claimed to be a smart man, but he thought the point was to fight. Perhaps she was a child of Apollo. They had a special way with music... right? He had no idea. He had been there for over 2 years and still didn't have a clue when it came to demigod bull.

Then there was a gentle tap on his knee before Trinity rose to her feet. Wes gave her a reassuring smile as he watched her make her way to the arena. Unlike the trials, there wasn't a huge pit in his stomach this time. He knew she could kick ass. And that was how the fight started off. It seemed as though it was going to be over pretty quickly... Until Rae shifted into a fucking lion! Wes couldn't help himself, he jumped to his feet when the feline roared. He knew the arena was enchanted but now Trinity was facing something different entirely. He couldn't help but worry for her safety. Everything shifted from what felt like a spar to a gladiatorial contest.

It was hard for Wes to keep up, but eventually Trinity managed to wrangle the lion into submission. Fighting turned to writhing until the arena reset held a now naked redhead. Unable to help himself, Wes shouted out. "Yeah!" He clapped his hands but no one seemed to join in. He laughed nervously knowing he made a fool of himself. But he didn't care. "That's my girlfriend!" he announced proudly. Then after a moment, he smiled awkwardly while rubbing the back of his head. "The lion tamer... not the naked one," he corrected before sinking back into his seat.

Wes smiled proudly as Trinity returned to the stands beside him. "I knew you'd win."

Nick made his way back up to the arena to address everyone. Wes hadn't even noticed that the sun was starting to set. How long had they been out there? "Great fights. There’s not much to say other than… I’m ready to eat, so let’s get out of here."

Once everyone had started leaving Wes sighed softly. "Hungry?" He lightly patted Trinity's thigh. "We could go to the main hall or I could grab us something and we could have a picnic at the beach. Andy?" he offered, leaning forward to get a look at the quiet brunette who sat on the other side of Trinity.

She sat there, awaiting more pairings to take their place in the arena perhaps or be officially dismissed but a particularly awkward end came to the duels it seemed. Which was only a larger pity sitting there alone and still as stone when she couldn’t wait to leave. Even Evelyn began to look around for sign of movement to know something was happening. And just as she gave up, and glued her eyes back on the gladiator ring, a body moved by, paused and backtracked with a clearing of his throat. β€œSo, well-rounded and mature - probably wish you didn’t give me that compliment.” As he chuckled, Evelyn only tilted her head in something that was hard to disagree with.

Nonetheless, she gave him the courtesy of looking at him, offering a friendly smile and parting her lips to respond with assurance that no offence or harm had been caused by his actions. However, her words were apparently not meant to be as Nick avidly began to explain himself.

β€œBut it was honestly not my fault! It was that Aphrodite girl, I swear. She did something to me. Or the air around her did something to me. I like women - love them, but I’m more a romantic. Not that there’s anything wrong with one-night stands! Of course. I don’t discriminate against lifestyle choices and stuff like that.”

The likes of Evelyn wasn’t sure how to take onboard his…open and energetic explanation. Not to mention if the others weren't wrapped up in their own conversing, he'd draw some interesting attention. In fact, she came mighty close to just raising her hand and requesting he hush and breathe. β€œNick...”

Still, he carried on. β€œShe seduced me while I was still weak. I’m just a dumb man trapped in this body.” As he motioned over himself, Evelyn gave him a once over. Pretty, but maybe less brain capacity than anticipated. As boys did so well, he seemed exceptional at digging himself a hole. β€œYeah...”

Evelyn quirked up a brow as that was the epic conclusion. There was a brief silence that passed where the two seemed to look and await the other's move so she decided the best thing she could do was give a neutral agreeance/consent/forgiveness or whatever it was he was seeking. β€œOkay.” She nodded as if emphasis was needed that she understood all his babble and they were good.

Only when his back was to her did she finally release a giggle. Not at him tripping as such but because the bizarreness of it all finally caught up. Looking at him in the middle of arena again, she wondered what facade would be brought forward. An authoritative leader, a charismatic new guy, the slightly awkward one. It seemed the people person appeared.

Once dismissed, Evelyn left the gladiatorial arena without second thought. Truly she couldn’t get out there fast enough, but Evelyn kept her wits and adopted a steady pace. She had seen and learned enough about her peer’s combat abilities and how they responded to competition, and fair to say, most fought with something to prove whether that be with strength or mind-warping abilities.

Personally, she'd rather go up against neither. At least not until she obtained more power or could become further creative with her abilities to outsmart those who proved foe. While her stomach did call, practice had to take priority. She’d have a delayed dinner. Even feast at midnight if that's what it took. But right now she needed to be at a better level. As she had told the daughter of Hera once, she was playing in the big leagues. Evelyn diverted from the main path for the woods.

xTo say that Liam was impressed with Sloane’s capabilities would be a sore understatement. He had doubted her, as one would. He never did learn that whole β€œit’s the quiet ones you gotta watch out for” mantra, or whatever it was. At the same time, he wanted to take Duke and peel the flesh from his body for forcing her to go through that. At one point, whether someone was paying attention to him or not, his hands ran over his arms while the fight made him recount his trip down in good ol’ Tartarus. It was giving him PTSD, but he didn’t want to admit it. He’s a manly man, after all. They don’t think about their feelings and shit. While he might not outwardly show emotional signs of suppressed distress, he was clenching his jaw. That could be from watching Sloane get roasted, though, so no one would notice that he might be grappling with something deeper. No one probably thinks a man like him has deep thoughts or feelings, either.

Sloane sat there quietly, with her small hands pinned between her knees as her left leg bounced anxiously. It took all her focus to keep her eyes locked on the arena and the arena only. Every minute or so she was tempted to let her gaze sift the crowd until she saw him... No. As if camp hadn't been a rollercoaster already, the last thing she needed was digging up old heartache. She wanted to go up to him. Shove him and tell him to leave. Camp was supposed to be a place for her to move on and find herself. And now, just when she thought she might have found her footing, the earth turned to quicksand and started swallowing her whole.

It was natural for Liam to look, but only because his eyes were already on the arena. When Rae’s full body was finally exposed, he just sighed. Great. He could never catch a break. However, his attention moved on swiftly to Sloane, watching her knowing that she noticed he looked. It wasn’t like he could pry the eyes from his skull! Someone let him know how, and he would! He wanted to say something, but everything that came out of his mouth just fell out wrong. So, he said nothing. He looked back toward the arena with his arms over his chest just in time for Blair to run and cover the woman.

Spars flashed before her in the arena, but her mind couldn't be farther away. She caught glimpses... vines, water, a maze... a lion. But none of it really snapped her out of it until it seemed everyone in the arena was pointing and talking. Sloane blinked once, twice before she accepted that what she saw wasn't a hallucination. Rae, completely nude. While they weren't necessarily friends, she felt some secondhand embarrassment, even if the redhead didn't seem the slightest bit bothered. Forgetting subtly, Sloane looked over at Liam to see if he was looking... Of course he was looking.

And of course, she thought I was gawking, he thought, most likely at the same time she was having her own thoughts.

As quickly as she looked over, her gaze fell to her hands. What was this feeling? Was she jealous? Rae was a pretty girl. You'd have to be blind not to notice. All eyes were on her, and while some might have been objectifying her, there was more to it. No one ever looked at Sloane like that. They looked at her like she was a goddess with lust and desire. She didn't want to be fawned over, but everyone wanted to feel desired... just a little.

She only looked up when she heard the disappointing aw of the crowd. Sloane's brows furrowed as she saw Blair in the center of the arena helping Rae. As if it wasn't bad enough that Lochlan was there, she had to deal with the temptress as well. Blair had a reputation and it seemed it wasn't going to change at camp, now realizing the voice she heard over the P.A. was hers. How long had she been there? A day? One day and she had already slept with someone. How long then until her lecherous gaze wanted Liam? Sloane couldn't compete with her. The only reason she was able to date Lochlan was because he was the only guy Blair didn't want.

Sloane shifted uncomfortably in her seat as Nick started toward the arena. Maybe she was the daughter of Aphrodite... That could explain it. Although, if that were the case, no one at camp stood a chance against the pair of them. Her mind raced trying to figure out how she never knew the Carmichaels were demigods. Her thoughts might have continued running in circles if Nick hadn't broken through her mental flood. "Great fights. There’s not much to say other than… I’m ready to eat, so let’s get out of here."

The moment he excused them Sloane was on her feet. She nearly took a step forward without a second thought, wanting nothing more than to beeline to her shack of a cabin and disappear for the rest of the day. But she couldn't ignore Liam either. She sighed, running her fingers back through her hair. "We need to talk," she said as she took his hand and started toward the exit.

Dead leaves crunched underfoot as the pair walked in silence. Other campers went to and fro, chatting about the spars or whatever mundane drama made them happy, but they paid them no mind. Sloane wanted to be as far away from everyone else as possible, hoping to avoid two individuals in particular, but she also needed to say what was on her mind before the courage to speak left. Her feet carried them to Liam's cabin, she hardly noticed until they were there but her thoughts were trying to find the words, not where she was heading.

Sloane led him up onto the porch and inside without an invitation. It was then that she finally released his hand and closed the door behind them. She sighed before slowly turning to face him, still clenching the doorknob tight in her palm. It seemed she only managed to find her courage when the possibility of running from her feelings was at her fingertips. "I'm going to talk... And you're going to listen..." she said softly.

There was a long pause... possibly too long. But Sloane finally looked up to meet his gaze. "I'm sorry that I was here when you got back. Seeing your trial... It scared me." She closed her eyes tight as she tried to find the words. "My life has followed a pattern. I've always been dependent on different people... My father, my mother, Lochlan... Sylas." her voice cracked as thoughts and feelings she worked so hard to suppress started surfacing. "I just went from one to the next, each one worse for me than the last. And each one of them took a piece of me with them. Coming to camp... Being with you... I started finding myself again." She exhaled.

"But then seeing your trial... It frightened me. I'm scared of falling into my old patterns of clinging to people who just use me, break off a piece and leave me being... less. I didn't want to trade one monster for another." Sloane finally opened her eyes to look up at Liam. While her words might have been harsh, she owed him and herself honesty. Everything she knew was flipped on its head when she came to camp. She would have drowned if it wasn't for Liam. Her dependency on him was comforting, and terrifying, and gave her butterflies.

"But... while you were gone I also realized something. I blame everyone else... My mother, Sylas, you, without taking accountability for the biggest problem. Me." She swallowed, taking a deep breath. It was one thing having thoughts like that plague her mind, but something entirely different when she admitted it out loud. "This is all my fault. Sylas, the trials... you going to Tartarus... It never would have happened if it wasn't for me. I'm the daughter of chaos." Sloane laughed weakly, ironically, while shrugging her shoulders.

"You helped me find a piece of myself, but at what cost? I'm a tornado that leaves destruction in my wake. You don't deserve that. You didn't deserve to go to Tartarus." She sighed, having only one thing left to say. "I'm sorry for the chaos my presence has caused. I'm sorry that you were sent to Tartarus. I'm sorry I wasn't here when you got back." Sloane pivoted on her heels, with her hand still firm on the doorknob. "I'm so sorry," she whispered one final time before opening the door.

She didn't dare look back. Her feet carried her swiftly down the steps to his porch as her heart raced in her chest. While it felt like a weight was lifted from her shoulders, there was a pit in her stomach, a hollow aching pit. Sloane had tried so hard to be more than the daughter of Eris. But in the end, no matter how much she tried to be better, chaos still followed her. There was a reason why she distanced herself from others. She was an idiot to think it would be different at camp.

Wow, she didn’t even give him an opportunity to say anything at all. That was typical. He’s starting to get used to her talking and trying to wiggle her way out of the aftermath, and maybe that’s a woman thing. He’s not sure.

Liam sighed and hastily blew through the doorway and seized her wrist. He tried to be as gentle with his fingers as possible, not attempting to yank her back or accidentally dislocate her shoulder. As soon as his hand wrapped around her, he stepped forward right behind her, put his other hand at the small of her back, and slowly eased her into turning around to face him.

Did her heart sink or skip a beat when she heard hurry after her. Sloane tried to quicken her steps, but his damn long legs. Liam reached her before she got to the bottom of the steps. Her eyes closed and head fell as she sighed. She didn’t fight his hold and let him turn her around. She forced him to follow her and listen to her ramble on, the least she could do is listen to what he had to say in return. After all, wasn’t it every girls’ dream for the guy to chase after her… And there Liam was. He didn’t even let her get 20 feet away. There was still a small part of her that hoped he’d listen, heed her warnings and write her off as trouble.

But… he was a hard-headed son of Ares. Gods damn it.

It was time to put his serious face on, "I sent myself to Tartarus. All the choices I made so far are my own. I’m the son of Ares. I’d say I’m a bit chaotic, too." He lowered his head just a little to look her straight in her eyes, "If you weren’t staring at me, I’d have ground that little shrimp’s bones to dust."

He let her go and stepped back a little, then decided to pose a question, "What’s wrong with needing each other? What’s wrong with being scared about it? I am, too."

He cracked a small smile, "Let’s just… see what happens. Hmm?"

She couldn’t bring herself to look up at him. "And what if you get hurt?" she asked. "... I don’t know if I can protect you." Her voice was barely above a whisper, the fear evident in every word. Liam was someone who could take care of himself, but he saw her trial. That future wasn’t as impossible as others might think, not with her brother.

There was a soft sigh as his face returned to its more serious note, "No one can protect anyone all the time, Sloane. We aren’t gods, and we certainly aren’t very good at being half of that most of the time."

Sloane sighed softly. "It’d be easier if you hated me." She finally met his gaze with a sad sort of smile.

He laughed lightly and shrugged, "Probably. We are the kids of jackasses, so… life’s not simple." Then he urged her with a hopeful sort of questioning, but not really a question or demand, kind of statement, "So… your stuff… you… me…here…"

She let out a soft, more lighthearted laugh as she nodded her head. "Yeah… I’ll go get it." Sloane nodded her head in the general direction of the cabin she found as she descended the rest of the porch stairs. If anything, she needed a shower and a change of clothes. And while one of those could be remedied there, that did solve the clothes issue.

Of course, he would go with her! Liam was like a lost puppy - feed him once, he’ll follow you forever. Okay, maybe not like that, but whatever. But before he forgot, he jumped inside real quick and grabbed a jacket hanging near his open door. Can’t have every guy here sneaking a peak or Lochlan won’t be the only shrimp taking daytime naps.

After he closed the door he caught up to Sloane and tossed the coat over her shoulders; it was just an old leather dark brown thing. It smelled like him. It’s definitely been around a while. After that, he put his hands in his pockets and walked beside her, "I knocked your friend out. You two know each other?" He’s not jealous. Nope. Never.

Sloane glanced up at him as he placed the jacket over her shoulders. She couldn’t help but chuckle a little. And while it did seem to be a jacket that had seen better days, there was something comforting about the subtle scent of Liam on it. "Uh.. Yeah…" she finally replied with a nod. "He’s my ex, actually." She kept facing forward as she walked, but snuck small glances over at him from the corner of her eyes to gauge his reaction.

He did that thing where he sucks on the back of his front teeth while puckering his lips a bit. So, that was what it is - exes. Ugh. As if being at Camp wasn’t hard enough, now he has to deal with Sylas and the Shrimp. It was all going to be a massive headache for him.

So, he did what he had to do, as much as he thought it was dumb. He had never done this before. Normally he just hits and quits, but now he feels like a high school boy asking a girl out for the first time. "Let’s date. Officially." Okay, so it wasn't asking, but his voice wasn’t conclusive or demanding at all. It was more like… teasing the air. Testing the waters. An uncertain question and statement at the same time.

Sloane stopped dead in her tracks like a deer in headlights. If she were asked that morning how she thought the day would go… This wasn’t it. "Uh-what?" was all her stupid mouth could manage to make out. Her mind instantly began to race trying to piece together where this came from. It wasn’t entirely out of the blue, but they had kissed… What? Once. And it was a rash action on Liam’s part that was never talked about again. She couldn’t deny that she had feelings for him, but while she felt like they were on a path that could potentially lead in that direction, Liam just threw them on a train and said buckle up.

"Lochlan’s not a threat, " she finally answered with more than one word. Maybe it was because he mentioned it immediately after she said Lochlan was her ex, but she felt like it was Liam’s strange way of protecting her… or maybe, making sure he didn’t have competition. It seemed her mental confusion was starting to unfurl into words.

"I dumped him." She took a step forward, reaching out to gently grab his forearm, slowly turning him to face her. "He cheated on me. I don’t want him back." Sloane didn’t know what she was trying to prove. Maybe that he didn’t need to protect her from Lochlan. If his loquacious punch wasn’t enough to keep him away, then the simple fact that she wanted nothing to do with him would be plenty. Liam did more than what was ever necessary to keep her safe… He didn’t need to do more.

He sighed heavily. Completely rejected. He wasn’t really thinking that the timing was just inappropriate, but that maybe there was something wrong with him at the moment. He hadn’t meant to just chuck it on her because of Lochlan, and he certainly couldn’t figure out that it came out that way. He’s so confused.

"I don’t care about the Shrimp," he informed her as-a-matter-of-factly. "I care about you. But I get it."

"No… Iβ€”" Sloane sighed trying to figure out her words. She moved to stand in front of him so he didn’t walk off or Gods know what he’d do. "It’s just… sudden. You hated me this morning and now you want me to be your girlfriend?" She looked up at him with a sincere and slightly confused expression. "And only after I mention my ex?"

Liam rubbed the back of his neck, "I just got back from literal Hell," he reminded her. He didn’t want to say anything that would make her feel worse than she already did about it all, so he left the details out to spare her. "It was like… a day for you, but felt like years to me. I wasn’t mad at you, I was…" he trailed off, trying to figure out how to put feelings into words. Feelings that he didn’t exactly have before until now. But nothing could explain anything, it seemed. "I don’t know… It wasn’t hate. I just felt…" He tilted his head but looked beyond her for a moment. Abandoned. That’s what it was. "...tired. Exhausted. Worn down."

Sloane’s expression fell. He was lying… Or withholding. Something told her it was more than what he let on. Part of her wanted to know what happened while he was in Tartarus and what was going on in his head, but she also knew it wasn’t the time to ask. She didn’t know what to say at that moment. While Liam wasn’t always the smartest she had a tendency to overthink things or push others away. There was no subtle way she could get the answer she wanted… Not with him. So she had no other choice than to ask him outright. "Are you wanting to date me because you want to be with me?... Or are you wanting to date me so no one else can?"

He gave her a very pointed look and flatly said, "Do I look insecure to you?" He blinked a whole two times then spoke again, "I mean, really? Me worry about that Shrimp? Nah. I don’t think I can be any more clear here, Sloane."

Then he took a step forward and turned her around with him; a hand having pushed her gently on the small of her back, "Why don’t you just think about it, yeah? I’m cool with that." His demeanor changed from serious to goofy once again, "If you don’t think I noticed the way you were staring me down back in the arena, then you are mistaken. Don’t pretend like you didn’t, either. A man can feel a woman’s dagger-eyes as naturally as breathing."

Sloane let Liam guide her, but she kept a sideways glance on him. "I wasn’tβ€”" she started to argue. "Fine. Fine." She put her hands up in surrender with a playful roll of her eyes. With a nod of her head, she slowly let her feet start carrying her forward once again. She agreed to think about it… Although he was right, Liam might be the least insecure person at camp. It was only ironic that she somehow drew his attention. Something inside her said she already knew the answer, but she’d give herself some time. Time never hurt anyone.

With that, they just quietly walked to the nook in the woods where she managed to find an empty cabin earlier. He opened the door and stepped inside first, but only because he wanted to make sure there were no snakes and shrimp in there. Yes, he was jealous. However, he’d stand back and let Sloane get her things packed - if that even needed to happen. Naturally, Liam would carry her things because… it was just easy. Felt like nothing, honestly. He’d even forget he had anything at all!

Once Liam had given her cabin the all clear, she stepped past him. She began packing and it wasn’t until halfway through that she noticed a mysterious shoe box sized gift on the nightstand. Her brows furrowed as she stared at it in confusion while shoving some clothes in her bag. After a moment, while Liam was distracted she turned her body so that he couldn’t see the box as she examined the tag.

A gift from me to you. Use it well.
~ Mother

Sloane frowned, half turning back toward her packing, then froze. She grabbed the box and slid it under the bed. She’d come back for it… or not… or maybe she would. She shook her head, choosing not to focus on it as she hastily shoved the rest of her stuff in the bag.

Once all her stuff was gathered they retreated back to Liam’s cabin quietly, where he opened the door, walked inside, and tossed her stuff on the bed in his room. The couch wasn’t ideal for a man of his size, but he would tolerate it for a bit. He made a mental note to hoist the bed from the cabin they were just at over his shoulders to bring it here. That’d also be too easy.

"I’ll grab a bed from another cabin tomorrow. You know where the food is."

He was missing someone. It was Rocco. Liam poked his head out a window and saw the pup playing outside and enjoying himself, so he was also content. This place was mostly safe, so if Rocco wanted to explore, maybe he’d cheer up some otherwise emotional campers.

Sloane slowly followed after him, but lingered in the bedroom doorway after he dropped her bags. "Why don’t you rest?" she asked, motioning toward the bed. "You haven’t had a chance to since… You got back." Her voice was gentle, laced with concern. She wasn’t commanding him, but he said it himself, he was exhausted.

She slowly walked over to the bed and moved her bags to the ground in the corner. She then turned down the covers on the side that looked like the one he favored. "I have to shower. Then I’ll take Rocco for a walk." Sloane said as she dug through her things grabbing the first outfit she could find. She walked back over to him with her clothes bunched up in her folded arms. "Maybe I’ll even bring back something to eat." She smiled up at him before shifting up onto her tiptoes so she could place a kiss on his cheek. Ok… so she had to tug on his arm a little so he’d lean in a bit. The height difference was a lot.

"Sleep," she said with a little more force while pointing to the bed. Then without another word, she slipped out and headed to the bathroom.

Ah, Liam was at the mercy of the little woman. Wasn’t that true of so many men anyway? He gave her a lopsided grin and was left with little choice but to obey, "Yes, Ma’am." He tipped his invisible hat in a playful manner, then climbed on his side of the bed, which was surely indented. It honestly didn’t take but a minute or so for him to drift off, comfortable that things were settled for now.

A brow quirked at the final spectacle and the slightest smirk passed his lips. Mason made a note that he had to interact with that red head some more. She was always good-looking but…with more to see of the girl and less to hear it just made her even more attractive in that moment. She wasn’t exactly bashful either, she didn't have to be and Mason was glad for that. All this sitting around watching each other fight to have her body on display almost made it all worth it.

Then Andy entered his thoughts and he felt slightly bad for looking and enjoying the view. Even more so confused though because he was single and by all means free to look yet still felt bad somehow. The dilemma solved itself when a fellow girl clothed the daughter of Artemis. Nick took centre stage and dismissed them. Mason got to his feet but didn't dash for the exit, rather, he looked for the daughter of Hecate first to check her state. They were in foggy territory with each other, neither seeming to know how to be or what to be with the other one now. And Mason couldn’t stand it and had no intention of it carrying over to an extended amount of time.

He tried to catch Andy's eye and gestured for them to meet. He waited for everyone to file out because crowds were never his thing. Then with his hands in his pockets, he trickled out of the arena and headed to Andy's cabin using the shadows of sunset to go undisturbed. Whether she saw him gesture for her or not, the girl was likely to return to her sanctuary at some point and though patience wasn't in his set of skills, it'd be worth it and this was really only one of her sure points.

The mess hall seemed like a safe bet too sure but the amount of times he had to force Andy to eat something, and the number of people there...the off chance somebody decided to sit and talk or, even flirt with him or her just wouldn't help their current situation. Mason knew what he wanted and it was Andy. But the best place to meet and talk..., especially for a girl was in her own home for all the safety and assurance she needed.

He sat on her porch, hands together, hunkered forward and of all people, began to whistle a soft tune during the interval of waiting for her, head downward.

Sylas wasn't the type to let the opportunity to sit and observe others' battle strategies, techniques and abilities go to waste. He observed every duel like it was a lesson with something for him to learn. He leaned forward in his seat, elbows on his knees and hands clasped together under his chin. Whenever something unexpected or worthy or note happened, his brows furrowed slightly. But other than that he was an unmoving statue. There was nothing of note happening in the stands. Everything of value took place in the arena and that's where his gaze remained fixed.

Wes and some unknown red head's spar seemed fairly basic and straight forward, until the end. There was some kind of powers going on there for a girl of such a small stature to take down someone of Wes's size... Even if the one armed moron was barely capable of fighting off a rabbit. He was large and the absence of one arm only let the other grow in tone to compensate for the loss. Depending on who girl's parentage, Sylas might have been able to get a sense of what she did. But the stands stood a fair bit back from the arena and whatever magical barrier kept the mayhem inside probably kept anything from leaking out and from anything getting in. Barriers weren't selectively tangible.

He'd be lying if Liam's trial didn't peek his attention a bit more than those before him. Ares child were fairly straight forward hot heads, get any of the riled up and they would dig their own hole quick enough. There was enough evidence that Liam was no different. He nearly killed Sylas due to his lack of anger management, which lead to their trials and the dumb ox's stay in Tartarus. The idiot didn't need much persuasion to make a fool out of himself, but he was also in Sloane's pocket, which added a bit of a challenge. If she used her own abilities to shield him then all that's left was a fight of brawn... And he was the inferior party in that conundrum.

Sylas was so distracted with his thoughts and strategizing he nearly missed Liam's opponent... Lochlan. It was the only time during the entire training that he showed more than a sliver of a shift. For a brief moment, Sylas sat upright, confused, curious, intrigued and... where was Sloane? His gaze quickly darted from head to head in the crowd until she found a familiar mane of brunette hair. He couldn't see her face to judge her reaction. And before he had a chance to even consider joining to her add another proverbial nail in her coffin, he heard Lochlan begin to say her name. Sylas just barely managed to look back at the arena to see Liam pull back his fist and Lochlan hit the dirt. Looks like he lost the 'shortest duel award'.

He was disappointed. There was much he could gain from watching that spar, aside from the fact that Liam was a jealous and protective man that hated when anyone said Sloane's name. Obviously. The mindless muscle was already leashed as Sloane's personal lap dog, whether or Liam knew it or his sister acknowledged it. Sylas knew the easiest way to get at either one of them was to prod the other. But the sudden appearance of Lochlan definitely added another chess piece onto the board. He wasn't sure if he was anything more than a pawn, but even the smallest piece could unseat the King and Queen. And while he was a master at playing the game, Lochlan was never one of his players.

Sloane nearly missed her opportunity in the limelight. Her opponent was a rather forgettable camper. Sylas could barely remember Duke's name, far less anything else about him. He knew the man was wrapped so tight in the Valis coils that if their ship sank, he'd almost certainly go down with it. Who was his parent again?... Hypnos? Hermes? The duel commenced with nothing being held back. Even though Sylas was intrigued by his sister's own spar, he knew her lack in any skill even remotely close to combat meant she would lose, sooner or later. So, he watched, while his brain rattled off Gods one by one, none of them seeming quite right.

That was until he saw Duke shoot flames from his hands. Hephaestus! Well... it was apparent he got his looks from Daddy. But to Sylas's surprise, Sloane was still holding on. He would have bet that the flames would have taken her out in no time, but the shield he held had to be enchanted. He found himself becoming more and more invested in the fight as his sister seemed to keep prevailing. She even let herself get burned for the chance to flee. When Duke caught up and tackled her to the ground, it was certainly over... But to his surprise, Sloane was ready with a dagger to his chest. Sloane won... Sloane won. His posture sagged as he slumped back into his seat. Well, fuck.

Sylas was almost certain that Liv would win her duel with the quiet mousey girl... What was her name? He didn't know or care. The little mute was always surrounded by her suffocating brothers or whoever they were. She spoke, that was something he supposed. But even after seeing her trial he didn't believe for a second that she was worth an ounce of concern. It was apparent she thinks she's sooooo dangerous and a killer. But Liv just slammed her ass with a fucking tsunami. There was no competition. He could destroy a girl like her without breaking a sweat. She wasn't even worth the effort of seducing and deflowering. It'd be his luck that afterward the girl would be so clingy that the only way he could rid himself of her would be to kill her.

Surprise, surprise... Liv won. He watched the brunette as she made her way back into the crowd, nodding ever so slightly in her direction when their gazes met briefly.

Joy, more forgettable people. Sylas sighed as he ran a hand back through his hair. He knew the guy was one of the goodie-two-shoe trio, but the girl was another new face. He was social enough, but he usually only entertained himself with people who seemed... well... entertaining. The girl looked like she could be worth some of his time. That was until she started to sing... and dance. Sylas's face scrunched up in visible confusion. "What the fuck?" he muttered under his breath. He crossed his arms over his chest, watching in disbelief. Well, this was the most ridiculous thing he's ever seen. Luckily, the charade was cut short when the boy created a maze to entrap her. It then shifted to glass and before he knew it, she was on the ground in the fetal position and the... duel was over.

Sylas rolled his eyes disappointed and annoyed. Duels, sparring... They're fights not whatever bullshit theatrics that was. He was growing impatient and bored. He was hoping for entertaining fights, to gauge everyone's battle prowess but half of these 'fights' barely qualified as a duel. All it did was further prove who at camp was a worth ally or opponent, and who would be utterly useless in a battle. The number in the later category was startling. No wonder Poseidon was pissed. This was a useless bunch of demigods.

Thank the Gods the last spar was actually a fight and entertaining. It was like something out of an old gladiator arena, watching a warrior fight a lion. Sylas found himself rooting for the lion, although that have been due to the fact that Trinity was Liam's sister. But he wasn't surprised either when the daughter of Ares came out on top. If an Ares child didn't win... That'd be room for concern. And then, like the cherry on top of a mediocre cake, Rae was left stark nude in the center of the arena when the fight was done. He wasn't going to push past others for a better view, but he wasn't going to turn away bashfully either. Yes, Evelyn seemed to plague his thoughts more than he cared to admit but they weren't tethered to one another. And he did like redheads.

Then, rising from the hoard without a hair out of order, was a preppy brunette going to Rae's aid His eyes squinted slightly in intrigue. A small smirk grew as he realized the minx he heard over the intercom was none other than Blair. He knew those purrs anywhere. It seemed camp was getting more and more interesting with each passing day.

As the sun set they were dismissed and before Sylas could recognized what he was doing, he was on his feet and trailing behind Evelyn. She didn't want to speak to him. After his trial she moved to sit beside Sloane, which he felt only proved that she saw him as a monster and nothing more. He did try to warn her. But still... something kept his feet moving, following after her. He didn't rush to catch up to her, but kept a large amount of space between them as he walked leisurely with his hands in his pockets.

The red head followed the path for awhile before finally diverting to the woods. Sylas's feet came to a halt on the path where she changed course, but he didn't follow. He stood there, staring after her. It wasn't clear if she knew he was behind her. Evelyn's feelings toward him were still vastly unknown and unlike how he is with nearly everyone else, he didn't want to pry or force himself where he wasn't wanted. "You did good back there," he called after her, nodding his head in the general direction of the arena.

He'd hold her gaze if she bothered to look back at him. Only after a long silent pause, he'd clear his throat and nod his head. What else was there to say? He wasn't the groveling type, nor was he the type of person to give out compliments beyond the obligatory 'beautiful' comments. This was out of the norm for him. Evelyn did what she wanted... And for some strange reason he didn't want to make her do otherwise. So, without another word, he exhaled softly and continued down the path, letting her continue into the woods if she so chose.

Andy tried not to shiver as she pooled the towel tighter around her shoulders. While it helped, it didn't do much when her clothes were soaked. At that point, she was just counting down until she could go back to her cabin and take a warm shower. But considering she went first, she knew she was stuck in that state far longer than she wanted.

It seemed the duels were going in a voluntary fashion, so whenever someone had the balls to go next, or perhaps get it out of the way, they stood up and their partner unluckily had to follow. Andy was hoping for some fluff trials so she could just relax and maybe grill Trinity on whatever she said to Mason in the main hall. But it seemed Mason was in the party of getting his training done as soon as possible. She remained silent as she watched him make his way to the arena, followed by Evelyn. Andy didn't have much of a chance to interact with the girl until Daniel introduced them, but she seemed nice.

Andy knew nothing about the girl's abilities though. Hell, she couldn't even remember if she knew who Evelyn's parent was. But she did know how Mason fought. She saw more fights between him and Ajax than she could count, so all she could do was hope he didn't nearly murder the poor girl. Although, seeing him fight someone who wasn't a Valis was a nice change.

The fight went back and forth between the two. But nothing too terrible happened, at least not yet. Evelyn was lucky enough to get herself out of the fissure rather than plummet down it like Andy had not long before. What did surprise her was seeing Mason's hostility. While she could tell he was intentionally not trying to kill her, there was still darkness... in his eyes. It was like seeing something from a new perspective. Andy knew she saw a side of Mason that no one else really did, besides Trinity. But she hoped some of that darkness might have gone away with the absence of two Zeus kids.

Overall, the fight didn't seem to bother her too much. Andy watched calmly... until Mason cried out in pain. There was a pang in her chest as the sounds brought flashes of her trial to the forefront of her mind. She shut her eyes tight and turned her head away, not daring to look toward the arena. It was less than a day ago that she watched him die before her eyes and now hearing his cries felt like reopening a wound.

Andy couldn't bring herself to look back towards the arena until she heard a different voice break the silence and wish their opponent good luck. She opened her eyes to find Sylas and Cherise amidst their own duel. Then like a reflex, her gaze quickly scanned the crowd until she found Mason on the other side of the stands. Only then she was able to exhale a shaky breath. In a weird twisted way, Andy found it funny how she was sane for 18 years with ghosts for friends, but 2 years at camp and she's become riddled with PTSD and whatever other trauma. Ironic.

The rest of the spars continued to play out, some were intense while others were... weird. Andy supposed that everyone had their own ways of trying to win a fight with someone else, come conventional and some not so much. In the end, as long as you win, that's what really mattered. That and being able to think on your feet in the heat of battle. But no amount of training could prepare anyone for what it was like to truly be fighting for your life. She hoped that no one had to know what that was like, but life for demigods was rarely that kind.

Of course, Trinity won her duel. Andy expected no less of her best friend, and to be honest, if she lost Trinity would never hear the end of it. While she thought the most surprising part was going to be seeing Rae transform into a lion, what caused the most commotion was her transformation back. As anyone could guess, women's clothes don't really fit a wild animal, so what remained of them was shredded and scattered about the arena.

Rae's naked body caused quite the stir throughout the crowd. Some people turned away bashfully, while others gawked in amusement. Andy found herself giggling softly at the turn of events as she looked around at the other campers to gauge their reactions. But when her gaze fell on Mason expression fell. Her smile and laugh faded until she sat silent and stoic like she had not long before. There was no law saying he couldn't look. Everything about what was going on between them was far from conventional and there had yet to be any labels. Andy tried to rationalize it, but it still gave her a strange feeling in her gut. She never knew where Mason's mind was truly. It was a fortress that no one had entry to. While part of her wanted to know what happened between them was more than one night, she couldn't help but wonder if maybe it him... It wasn't. That her, Eve... Rae, were just women to pass time with.

Andy missed the part where they were excused, quickly getting lost in her own overthinking. It was until she heard Wes say her name that she snapped out of it. "Huh?" She shook her head, trying to clear her mind and put on a smile. "Oh, no. It's ok. I'm dying to get out of these wet clothes... and into a hot shower," she added with a bit of longing in her voice. It seemed she hasn't been able to get warm since she fell into the water during her spar. "Maybe later we can make s'mores at the beach? Or watch a movie?"

She stood up, holding her towel tight around her shoulders. "Good job in there," Andy said to Trinity. "You too, Wes. That arm trick was great." She gave them both a small wave, before making her way down the stands and exited the arena.

While her destination was her cabin, Andy wasn't in a rush. She took her time walking the paths, letting demigods hurry past in every direction. When she reached the deep part of the woods towards the end of the camp grounds she started to hear a feint whistle. It wasn't until her own cabin, nestled back in the trees, came into view that she noticed that sound came from Mason. He sat on her porch... Waiting. Andy slowly approached. She didn't say anything, just climbed the steps and opened the door to the cabin. But she didn't shut herself in. She stepped aside while holding open the door and nodded her head, motioning for him to come in.

She waited for him to enter before closing the door behind him. Andy then made her way over to her dresser and started sifting through her clothes, pulling out something fresh to wear. "I uh..." She started as she brushed loose hair behind her ears. She closed one drawer and opened another. "I didn't see the end of your fight. I assume you won?" Andy asked as she picked out some clothes and tossed them on her bed. She wasn't good at small talk, but it was better than awkward silence.

She was sure she had substantial space around her, so hearing a simple "You did good back there," made her freeze on the spot like an involuntary command. It was more who it came from than the praise itself, although both paired together were fairly disarming. Evelyn risked a glance over her shoulder, uncertain if he was even addressing her, however, somewhere in her she was betting he was. Sure enough, not many others were around and Sylas was looking right at her.

Evelyn flickered up a smile, lost in conflict. It was kind of him to bother to say, whether he meant it or not, but he didn't warrant a smile and there was always room for improvement. Yet, she couldn't shake the hint of pride and happiness for her efforts to be acknowledged and maybe, to have the spider's attention still. β€œI thought only results would matter to you,” she remarked.

A beat or two might've drifted by, Evelyn's comment perhaps seen as dismissive and non-conversational. Sylas cleared his throat and sighed continuing to walk down the path. Evelyn tilted her head slightly watching him go. β€œSylas,” she called before he drifted out of earshot. β€œI could use some company. Could you?” It wasn't meant as a proposition for sex, merely keeping him around her a little longer before he ventured off to his other toys.

She waited for some signal or invitation to join him. Or perhaps for him to double back and join her. Either or. Evelyn could never assume to predict Sylas so refusal may well have been on the plate too. β€œAnd thank you,” she added, delayed in regards to his compliment. What she should have appropriately responded with to begin.

With his okay, Evelyn walked to his side like an invisible tether were there pulling her to him. She was a mix of cautious but relieved, a fascinating blend as ever. She matched her strides with his, all the while feeling a nagging compulsion to explain herself; how he could go from the most intriguing person to her to some demonic plague she wanted to avoid but Sylas was, firstly, smart enough and present in the cabin conversation, secondly, inquired no such thing, and he was owed no such thing. The need quickly subsided with some good logic. Best she focus on the present and not 101 thoughts anyway, especially with the son of Eris. β€œYou were merciful to her. Cherise,” she clarified. She could only imagine how much mercy those were truly at to those that bent wills. A man of Sylas's psyche could have inflicted major damage, psychologically and physically if he so chose.

Truly, Evelyn would settle for small talk on their spars and anything else to keep from their trials. Which was unlike her. But how could he justify such a thing? Nothing would be comforting nor more eye-opening than what she saw and there really was nothing he could say. Evelyn imagined most demigods would struggle to discuss their trials which is why it was probably best to be a universal avoided topic.

No one taking his advice was nothing new. Daniel huffed out and watched the duels roll on. It was entertaining but tedious at the same time. His fellow demigods offered a variety of skills and power flexes, and some duos were pretty on par with each other but there was only so much gladiator a guy could watch with interest. He sat there with his arms crossed. Cherise and Sylas got a peak, given it was Cherise and she also light bombed the whole arena causing Daniel to turn away and squint back when it was safe. Evelyn's slenderman was slippery and he was just stuck on the notion he was an ass, although he'd personally done Daniel no wrong. And all things considered, when Cherise was forced to give in, he was gentle with her.

Liam and the new guy managed to get a small chuckle, though Daniel probably wouldn't fare much better. But he'd at least pay attention to the raging bull of a man and try to wrap him in illusions and conjurations. The son of Ares was a hard man to miss after all. It's not like stealth was on his side.

The singing and dancing of one hypnotic child also caught his attention. The girl he saw earlier with Theo and tried to wingman but she ducked them all. He lent forward and listened intently, watching her seem to grow more comfortable and confident in her maneuvers but also become trapped like in her own world. Though he might've jinxed that as Ethan quickly turned that around to a more literal metaphor.

Trinity and Rae's demanded his attention, what with an intimidating roar and feline in the battlefield. They hit it real archaic style and he could dig it. Rae was smart to shapeshift into an animal with such bulk and natural weaponry because as a girl, Trinity would have been a minute behind her brother's record. Trinity wrestled the lion down into a forfeit until she was near straddled on a naked red head girl. Daniel blinked unable to help the thought of with a few modifications it'd be every man's dream...maybe teenage boy more accurately but still it wasn't bad.

Rae's nudity caused some to rise from their seats and clamber around for the best view. Which thankfully obstructed his view because..yeah she was okay, beautiful really and a demigoddess but....she was Cherise's friend. Daniel scoffed at the basic primates. "Ever heard of the internet?" he muttered. Breasts and the rest lived there. Not to discredit the red head's body of course but...he was more ashamed of his peers.

Daniel rose from his seat to conjure a trenchcoat or something more fashionable for the girl, but by that time a series of retorts and "awws" seemed to echo around the arena and they all fell into their seats again. Daniel was the delayed one standing to find another girl in the middle of the arena had done what he was going to do. Crap. He quickly sat down. Now he looked like another keen ogler. Ah this was so bad. Daniel rubbed his face in frustration.

Then at last, at last..Nick rose again to draw an end to the day. Except Daniel watched him stop and backtrack in line to Evelyn's aisle instead. He was out of earshot but the conversation looked like some misunderstanding had gone down very...one-sidedly. Although Evelyn was naturally composed. Theeen Nick dismissed them.

Daniel flew out of the arena like it was a race and headed for the hills. As much as a hurry he was in to be alone, once he reached the destination he simply sat cross-legged to a decent overlook and conjured himself some popcorn. Rather quickly he came to find he was too lonely. Save a bird perched nearby. "I got this," he said shovelling popcorn in his mouth and holding a finger up to the bird. "I've got this," he assured watching people that looked like ants go about their merry day. "Sylas, is like Hopper, he even kinda looks like him a bit. We're all smaller than him and he's gotta play big bad Eris. Wesley...has got to be Belle, multilingual, a bit smart, sensitive and sensible, would save a beast from being killed. I get serious CruelleDeVille vibes from Sloane, like you don't know what she's up to or what she's about until she announces 'hey, I wanna skin all your puppies and wear dead animals'. Trinity's kinda got a Meg thing going on but...I see her and I think Maleficent. Like she'll pretend to be civil then she's mean and there's a dragon lurking underneath the surface. Gwen, Ar..." he stopped himself. Viviene was always Ariel to him even if Gwen wore it better. Who was now also gone. "Mason's got the Prince Eric look, but based on mentality, Dr. Facilier. And you know, Evelyn's got a little Ursula behind her eyes," he observed, unsure if he really wanted to lock that one in. He moved on to the others. "Rae's like the barbied Pochantos. Theo is prince Eric. Cherise is Snow White with a heart of gold and could probably make animals sing. Ajax, Simba, no question about it. Iliana..." he narrowed his eyes in thought, "Thumbelina."

Andy appeared relatively soon, but without word and strode past him to her door. Mason glanced back at her over his shoulder expecting the door to shut behind her but she waited and he took that as..some kind of good sign. He rose and took her invitation in.

He opened his mouth to begin but Andy went past him and to her draws by the sounds of it. With her seeking some fresh clothes, Mason took the time to try formulate his words. But there was nothing just blank after blank and did he address it as an issue or would that be insulting?

"I uh... I didn't see the end of your fight. I assume you won?" she asked, while Mason remained in the same place.

Now should he be insulted by that? Mason quickly ignored it, regarding it as nothing and scratched his jaw with a nod. "Yeah, only just. I must admit I wasn’t expecting much which was on me. Did you win yours?" He surprised even himself with that, convinced he was over to place nice, not sassy and sarcastic.

Mason sighed out. Since he spoiled the goal already, tact could be damned. "Andy, I care for you. More than I ever want to admit and more than you could possibly know. And I know that’s not always been shown but it’s been hard watching you settle for less than you deserve with…Ajax, and at the same time, I’m not sure I’m much better for you. As a friend or…otherwise." Mason headed towards Andy's direction slowly, not caring if she was indecent, half dressed or fully clothed by now. This was coming out and he wanted to look at her during the tell-all even if was through a reflection. "Since the minotaur I knew you were something special and amazing. And then -" a Zeus kid picked you up, of all people and it crushed me, but he didn't want to make it a bitch session or bring hostility into it. Not this time. Besides, a bit of her heart could have still belonged to him.

He crept closer and closer, keeping it slow so she could tell him to stop if she wished. "I was afraid. I wasn't ready." With a father like Hades and abilities like his, having loved ones was costly and tended to work out for the worst. "But I know what I want now. It's you." By then, he had stepped up behind her. Again, the goal wasn't to start a fight and go in guns blazing or kiss and touch her how he felt, but she was far too attractive to him. He probably should have stopped himself before he got too close but Mason had been waiting the longest time to just be able to hold her and kiss her. He carefully coiled his arms around the beautiful brunette. He kissed her cheek, keeping his eyes on her reflection. "I love you Andromeda Bolton. The ball's in your court." Mason lowered his head, his nose brushing along her cheek then gave her neck a feather light kiss before releasing her and shuffling a few steps back.

Should he get rejected, well...at least that was the last time he got to kiss her and hold her. Tender and affectionate as opposed to the closet encounter. Although being as gentle as he was now took some serious restraint.

Her return was to a beaming proud Wes. Not that he was being subtle about it, because even though she was in her battle trance til Rae shifted back to a woman, she heard his cheer of support. "I knew you'd win," he said.

Trinity smiled because she'd never had faith and pride placed in her before. At least maybe not so transparently. But it was a good feeling and Wes was contagious. β€œThank you. Imagine how rich you’d be if you only placed a bet,” she jested.

Nick wrapped it up with a little bow and the crowd in the arena started to disperse. Before Trinity could get up to join the mindless shuffle, Wes tapped her thigh. β€œHungry? We could go to the main hall or I could grab us something and we could have a picnic at the beach. Andy?”

Oh boy could Trinity eat, and on the beach sounded like the cherry on top but she didn't want to sound too keen and risk her friend feeling..outcasted or outvoted or anything unwelcome like that. She turned her head and awaited Andy's reply too. β€œHuh?” Her friend seemed in her own world. β€œOh, no. It's ok. I'm dying to get out of these wet clothes... and into a hot shower. Maybe later we can make s'mores at the beach? Or watch a movie?” she suggested instead.

Trinity glanced at Wes briefly with pursed lips. It wasn't outright refusal and it wasn't like it was a bad suggestion either but Andy seemed a little clammy. She departed with praise of their fights and Trinity flashed her a smile and nodded respectfully. β€œYou too.” She sighed out knowing if the witch wanted to share what was bugging her she would. There were no hards, she just wanted Andy to catch a break.

She drummed her fingers on Wes's leg. β€œWell I guess we'll waddle to the main hall for now and save the beach date for marshmallows and Andy.” She sprang from her seat and headed out of the arena. Even Trinity found herself hoping they wouldn't return for another mandatory practice so soon in there again. She wanted her training area back and for it to be exclusive.

Trinity was almost skipping, there was a pep in her step and she had energy to spare, snapping her fingers as she walked a foot in front of Wes. Then she halted and held up a hand to stop Wes. β€œDo you suppose if you had more weapon training you could have bested her?” Trinity thought on it for a bit. He fought smart, he had the muscle on the newer demigod but to pinpoint what went wrong was hard in other people's fights. Then again this was Wes and he didn't seem to be too discouraged by a loss. He took it on the chin like a top bloke. β€œI'm not judging or picking on your fight style,” she added. β€œYou honestly did good. I'm just asking what do you reckon?”

She continued to walk to the hall, and once in, she didn't waste time lining up for a good meal. Maybe she shouldn't have bothered playing what ifs, but battle wise, it was one of her favourite games as Wes had probably come to know. And really she just wanted him to win against any and all opponents as he also well knew. On the other hand, maybe if he upped the pheromones and seduction it also could have proven advantageous. She crinkled her nose at the thought. It wouldn't be an easy sight but his odds of winning would go up.

Trinity stepped away with a loaded plate of the rainbow not even realizing how much she was dumping on there. Meat and the variety of veggies. She huffed out at herself and waited for Wes to serve himself. β€œWhere to, Captain?” Better to leave him in charge of table selection and dining location.

Trinity followed wherever he led and once they found a nice little spot, she smiled at him. She took a few bites of her meal, and somewhere during the interval of food consumption, Trinity watched him, an elephant topic suddenly coming to mind. Trinity made sure to chew and finish what was in her mouth before addressing the son of Aphrodite. β€œCan I ask you something? Non-combat related,” she disclaimed and smiled a little. β€œAlex.” Okay, that wasn't really a question. She didn't think specifics, just that Wes was missing a friend and a pretty big and close friend at that. β€œAre you.... okay with it, I guess?” She thought that's what she wanted to ask. Something like is he okay with her vanishing off the face of the earth with no return in sight and a stranger had to tell him it.

Wes could also feel something a little off with Andy, but they were just friendly with each other, probably for the sake of Trinity. Other than that, they didn't talk much. Not that they had a problem with each other, but her being close with Mason and himself with Alex made things complicated for a friendship to build beyond pleasant greetings. He was glad that Trinity had a good friend in her though, because while they didn't run in the same circles, she seemed like a good person. And everyone needs a friend that isn't their boyfriend or girlfriend.

"Well I guess we'll waddle to the main hall for now and save the beach date for marshmallows and Andy," Trinity said as she tapped her fingers along his leg.

He smiled and nodded his head in agreement. Wes got up and followed behind Trinity, allowing her to lead the way. It wasn't much different than most days to be honest. He'd follow her around anywhere, like the lovesick puppy he was. He couldn't help but smile watching her skip and snap. Trin seemed in a good mood, and while she was cute doing just about anything, there was something about her lightness and pep in her step. He was so lost watching her that he missed her hand reaching out and that he didn't register she had stopped until he bumped right into. "Shit," he mumbled under his breath, quickly reaching out to hold her and steady them both so they didn't stumble over. "Sorry," he laughed with a guilty smile.

"Do you suppose if you had more weapon training you could have bested her?" Wes wasn't surprised by the question, after all she was a daughter of Ares. Even though he wasn't much of a fighter, she did always try to push him to better himself. He knew part of it was because she thought he was capable of more, but also because she wanted him to be able to protect himself... It'd keep him safe, or safer. And while he didn't like fighting, he was genuinely trying, not for himself but for her. If there was another war or who knows, Trinity would do anything to keep him safe. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if she died to protect him.

"I'm not judging or picking on your fight style. You honestly did good. I'm just asking what do you reckon?" she added.

"Hmm," he hummed as he tried to think of an answer. As they both started walking once again, he draped his arm across her shoulders. "Maybe?" Wes wasn't the most knowledgeable about the ways to win a fight, but he supposed if he was better with his spear he might have won. "In a weird silver lining's kind of way, losing my arm wasn't such a bad thing. My left started compensating for the loss and got stronger. Then Duke gave me this," Wes raised his bionic hand off of Trinity's shoulder slightly to wiggle the fingers. "I'm probably one of the strongest people at camp now... Ya know, besides you and your brother." He laughed.

Wes wasn't trying to brag, he wasn't the type to gloat about his physical prowess, because, honestly, there wasn't much of it. But it had crossed his mind a couple times when he was around the other campers that he could probably best a fair bit of them in an arm wrestle... Ignoring Ares's kids. They were always stronger. "If we were boxing I might of won," he added with a playful chuckle. "Why? Are you wanting to train me?" He raised a brow, looking down at her curiously.

It wasn't long before they reached the hall and lined up for some food. It seemed a fair bit of the campers had a similar idea after spending all day out at the arena. Wes let Trinity go first and followed behind her. He imagined wrestling a lion took a lot more energy than dealing with a redheaded spider monkey that half climbed his tall ass to put him in a choke hold. For the most part he just lumbered around and then fell on his face. When it was his turn he grabbed a bit of this and that, which quickly turned into a large plate, but still not quite the mound that Trinity had.

"Where to, Captain?"

Wes skimmed the hall, a lot of the tables already looked full. But luckily toward the back he found an empty one. He didn't know if he was up for squeezing into a crowd. He helped Trin into her seat, before taking his own across the table from her. There was a bit of silence as they both started eating before she spoke up. "Can I ask you something? Non-combat related." Unable to answer because of a full mouth, he nodded his head and motioned for her to proceed. "Alex." Wes swallowed, his face scrunching in a bit of confusion as he waited for the actual question. "Are you.... okay with it, I guess?"

He took a deep breath as he slouched back in his seat, trying to find the words... Or even his answer. Wes scooted food around on his plate with a fork as he tried to figure out his feelings. The Valises just sort of disappeared and it seemed to be easier to pretend like they were never there than focus on it. "I don't know how I feel about it," he admitted with a sad smile.

Wes sighed. "I never was ok with what she did to Jennova. It was still murder, but I feel like everyone deserves a second chance. If I was judged solely based on how I was when I came to camp... I don't think we'd be where we are now," he said softly, looking up to meet Trinity's gaze. Before camp Wes was the definition of a womanizing piece of shit after having his heart broken. He was shallow and arrogant and everything else, but camp was like a reset button. If he could change, so could others.

"She seemed sorry for it, or at least I thought she was," Wes continued. "But then she nearly killed Andy. I don't know all of what happened to cause Alex to go after her, but... That's just not ok." He sighed and tapped his fork on his plate. "I'm mad she left without taking accountability. And I think it's unfair that a daughter of Zeus can murder and nearly do it again, and get what? A slap on the wrist and a trip to Olympus? While Liam went to Tartarus for a day."

He exhaled, finally taking another bite of his food. After another moment or two of quiet eating, Wes let out a pathetic laugh. "Apparently I just need more friends." He slowly leaned forward, gently holding her forearm and stroking her skin with his thumb. "You're all I need... But I'm pretty sure you'd murder me if I just followed you around all the time," he joked. He took her hand and brought her knuckles to his lips, placing a tender kiss upon them, before he let her continue eating.

After he had finished eating, Wes looked over at Trinity and posed his own question. "What about Theo? How do you feel about that?" He didn't mean it in a jealous way. Yes, Theo pissed off the other day, but the guy also picked the worst possible time to concede on Trinity. He knew the guy liked her, but she was his. Wes trusted her without question. "He seems to come and go a lot without a word... And is gone more than he's around."

Evelyn smiled. It was the first time she looked at him with a warm expression since the trials. Sylas would be only fooling himself if he didn't acknowledge the slight flutter he felt in his chest, but he didn't let hit show externally. Instead he met her smile with a smirk, so small that anyone else aside from her might have missed it. "I thought only results would matter to you," she said in response.

Sylas nodded his head. He understood how she would assume that, and in most situations she was correct. Truthfully... It seemed in every situation aside from her that's exactly how he felt. He judged every fight in the arena with a fine toothed comb, yet there he stood praising her, not Mason. She clouded his judgement, he acknowledged that. Yet, he still found himself seeking her out and wandering further into the mist.

"A child of Hades isn't an easy opponent for any demigod. I don't know what you did to him, but not just anyone could make someone like Mason scream out like that. That's power," he praised her again.

The conversation was a start. Sylas was happy to know that doorway hadn't closed forever. He was going to push his luck and force his presence on Evelyn. He made the first move in mending... whatever they had. Did they have anything? He didn't know. He wasn't even the type of person to mend fences, bridges, or any other broken structures that tear down relationships, but something in him couldn't leave things where they were. Perhaps he needed to hear her call him a monster, put the final nail in the coffin. Or maybe... maybe he wanted her to be the one person that told him he wasn't.

Just as he began to continue onward, Evelyn called out to him. "Sylas?" He stopped. He remained facing forward but turned his head to look in her direction. "I could use some company. Could you?"

If it were two days, Sylas would have offered her his hand or arm in a gentlemanly gesture with his snakelike charm. But this was unstable ground. He was tiptoeing along sand with unsure footing, not knowing if his next step would be solid or slowly sink and swallow him whole. So rather than taking a leap of faith like many idiots, he prefers to just test the ground before every movement forward. He kept his hands in his pockets but slowly pivoted on his heels and made his way toward her. In this silent gesture he handed the wheel over to Evelyn, letting her steer them in whatever direction she desired.

"And thank you," Evelyn said as she drifted to his side, matching his stride as they continued down the path she lead them down.

Sylas hadn't a clue where they were heading, nor did he care. He walked slowly alongside Evelyn. Every once in awhile when she was looking elsewhere he might have stolen a sideways glance, but he never let it be obvious. She wasn't an easy woman to read, but he could tell she was lost in thought, no doubt pertaining to him. She probably wondered about what to say or do, if she should leave or stay, or a thousand other possibilities. And while some might ask what was going on her head, he'd wait patiently for her to speak... Or not speak. She was an intriguing mystery. She wasn't easy to read like a book, but more like hieroglyphs. Each time they spoke he got a small piece to her cypher and maybe one day he'd be lucky enough to decode her.

"You were merciful to her. Cherise," she commented.

It wasn't a question, so it didn't require an answer. Sylas could have left that conversation at that, with a nod of his head and nothing more. If someone else had made the comment he might have said something about there being no need to go beyond winning the fight. Maybe even that he was gentle and didn't believe in unwarranted pain or violence. But something about Evelyn made him not want to deceive her. He would never been the most forthcoming man, nor would he tell her all his dirty little secrets. She always got the truth from him, even if it wasn't always black and white.

"I like to hold my cards close to my chest," he replied, looking over at her. While it was a vague answer, it was also truthful. He had no doubt that Evelyn was a smart woman and could figure out his intent. Such a simple sentence that had numerous meanings. Simply, the spars and camp itself is a game of poker. He could have shown a royal flush and destroyed Cherise from the inside out without breaking a sweat, but then everyone would know his hand. Instead he played the long game, calling and never raising, bluffing through every win and loss so no one knew what he really had. He didn't want anyone to see what he was truly capable of.

But that also spoke to who he was as a person. Sylas was never the type to let someone in. He was a method actor, always in the role. He never let anyone see who he really was, because to everyone else he was who he portrayed himself to be. But with her it was different. He could lie to her... He should. He should stay in the game and treat her like everyone else he came across in that shit hole. But he didn't. It was a mistake. Somehow this would come back to bite him in the ass, yet he didn't leave.

The path they walked had led them to a small clearing in the woods. There was taller grass, wildflowers and soft sunlight that cascaded to the ground between leaves that hung overhead. Without a word, Sylas made his way to the center of the tiny little field and took a seat. He lightly wrapped his arms around his bent knees casually. He studied her for a long moment wandering why she hadn't mentioned the trial. He knew it affected her in someway, yet she said nothing. Perhaps, he was tired of the cat and mouse game. Or maybe, while they were alone in the woods, there felt no need to be elusive. But after the prolonged silence, he looked up into her eyes and asked plainly, "Why haven't you asked me about it?" He blinked, pausing for a moment. "Do I frighten you?"

"Yeah, only just. I must admit I wasn’t expecting much which was on me. Did you win yours?"

Andy should have known when she asked the question that she was only going to be met with his own cynic sarcasm. She sighed, throwing whatever piece of clothing she had in her hand back into the drawer. "I don't want to fight," she said sadly under her breath. Yes, part of her was bitter about the way he look at Rae, even jealous, but that didn't mean she wanted them to start snipping at each other.

"I couldn't watch... Not after," she admitted without looking toward him. Her asking about his spar wasn't mean to be a jab or anything else, just an attempt to make conversation. A shitty attempt apparently.

Mason sighed and Andy let out her own exhale before she continued rummaging through her drawers. "Andy, I care for you." She froze, as if any movement she made he'd stop talking and recoil back into his shell. "More than I ever want to admit and more than you could possibly know. And I know that’s not always been shown but it’s been hard watching you settle for less than you deserve with…Ajax, and at the same time, I’m not sure I’m much better for you. As a friend or…otherwise."

Her hands were lost between piles of folded clothes as she dared not to move. Andy only looked up when she saw something move in the reflection of the mirror in front of her. She watched as Mason slowly moved through her cabin toward her. Once her gaze met his, she couldn't bring herself to look away.

"Since the minotaur I knew you were something special and amazing. And then -" Mason didn't finish what he was saying. He didn't have to. And then Ajax happened. There were countless times for him to say something, but he never did. Andy and Mason were at each other's throats half of the time. It'd be easy for anyone to think they there was nothing but animosity there.

Slowly, Mason kept moving closer, step by step. "I was afraid. I wasn't ready."

Ready for what? She wanted to ask, but the words were stuck and wouldn't come out. Andy couldn't bring herself to speak. She wanted Mason to finish. She'd never forgive herself if one stupid word muttered from her lips deterred him. While someone else might have seen where this conversation was going she couldn't. On one hand she thought... hoped that he was going to say what deep down she thought she knew for so long. But another part of her was holding her breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop... For Mason to say whatever they felt didn't matter because he was wrong for her. Because in the end that was always the reason.

"But I know what I want now. It's you." The Mason was there, standing behind her, holding her gaze through the reflection in the mirror. Her hands slowly withdrew from the drawer, but stopped at the edge of the dresser. His arms slowly snaked around her waist, tugging her closer so that her back was pressed to his chest. His never shifted from hers as he placed a tender kiss on her cheek. "I love you Andromeda Bolton." Andy's heart skipped a beat, her breath hitching in her throat at his words. "The ball's in your court."

The tip of Mason's nose ran across her cheek to the nape of her neck, leaving gooseflesh in its wake. The tender kiss made Andy's heart race. She flushed knowing he must have felt it through the sensitive skin of his lips. Then, as if rousing from a dream, he began to pull away, his hands slipping from her sides. Like a subconscious instinct, her hand grabbed his before he was able to be free from her. He couldn't tell her something like that then retreat.

His confession left her scrambling for words or what to do. Something in Andy knew... For awhile, that he felt something for her. Perhaps it was wishful thinking as she denied her own feelings, but now it was true. She knew Mason better than anyone at camp, but she felt like for the first time she was really seeing him. Before she was so sure footed around him, honest and open, like it was them against the world. But now everything was new uncharted territory. She found herself nervous around him... And scared.

"I... I love you too," she finally said beneath shaky breaths. Andy had said it once before and it seemed everything quickly unraveled afterward. Love is terrifying. No one ever mentions that when they talk about it. They both had been in love once before. Andy's slowly chipped away at her as she gave more than she got back until she was a ghost of who she used to be, and Mason's curse took his love from him. They were both broken, but somehow managed to only see the best in each other. They weren't looking for it, and Gods know they both fought it. But now that they had it there was a horrifying fear of losing it all.

Finally, Andy slowly spun around to face him. Her left hand slowly raised to cup his cheek gently in her palm. She was no stranger to how handsome he was, but it wasn't really until that moment that she was able to take it all it... Take in everything that was Mason. He always used to be shrouded in darkness, but there, standing chest to chest with her, he was glowing. His blue eyes sparkled with a light she had never seen and his commanding presence wasn't hard and callus, but tender and warm. Her thumb lightly ran along the dip in his chin and along his jaw.

Andy's hand slowly slid behind his neck, guiding his head forward as she raised herself up onto her tiptoes. The tip of her nose lightly brushed his cheek as she leaned in. She stopped for just a moment, the space between them immeasurable. Their faces were so close she could feel the warmth of his breath on her skin. With every inhale their lips would brush, just barely. All the while she never looked away from him until she closed the gap and pressed her lips against his.

"Yes, Ma’am," was Liam's only response.

Good. Sloane gave him a nod and smile, before slipping out of the bedroom. She didn't want to have to argue with him to get some sleep. With him out, that gave her at least an hour to get cleaned up and go back to the other cabin to figure out what to do with the package that was left for her. She gave Rocco some food, before wandering off toward the bathroom to take a quick shower and change. Usually she might have spent a bit longer getting cleaned or doing her hair, but a quick wash and comb would suffice. She didn't know how long Liam would stay asleep for, so she didn't want to waste any time. With damp hair and clean clothes, she grabbed Rocco's leash and headed out of the cabin.

The pup seemed happier then ever to gallop his large paws down the paths, trying to attack any insect or leaf that dares to fly anywhere near him. Sloane let him play and wander about, but kept walking at a decent pace toward the small abandoned cabins. It didn't take her long to reach the one she claim as her own, even though she never got a chance to stay in it. She paused for a moment to make sure no one was around before she went inside.

After closing the door, she let Rocco run free. There might not have been much room, but he could at least run in circles around her or jump on the bed. Sloane knelt down on the ground and reached under the bed for the box. Once she retrieved it, she got up and sat on the mattress. She remained still, holding the gift for a long moment, reading the tag over and over, trying to make sense of it. "A gift from me to you. Use it well." A present from Eris was never something good, or simple. There was a meaning to it, but Sloane had no idea what it meant.

She debated back and forth for the better part of ten minutes trying to decide if she should open it or not, but curiosity eventually won. With a sigh, Sloane gently grasped the lid and started to lift it. Rocco barked and jumped on the bed abruptly, startling her before she could open it. "What is it, boy?" she asked. He continued to bark and growl at the box until she released the lid. Then he was back to playing and wagging his tail as if nothing happened.

"You don't have to tell me twice," Sloane muttered to herself as she scooped up the box and Rocco's leash. The pair left as quickly as they had arrived. While her original plan was to go to the main hall, she had to make a detour. She didn't know what the gift was but whatever it was, it wasn't something she could hide under a bed and expect it to never be found. All she knew was she wanted nothing to do with it and needed to be rid of it... Fast. She had an idea... A bad, horrible idea, but it was the only one she had.

Soon enough her brother's cabin appeared down the path. This really was the worst plan. Whatever was in that present wasn't good and she was willing putting it in her brother's grasp. It was worse than the worst plan ever. But all she could hope was, whatever it did, it blew up in Sylas's face and everyone saw him for the monster he was. Gods don't let him hurt anyone with it. Sloane looked around nervously, double and triple checking that no one saw her as she approached the cabin. She hurried up the steps as fast as she could while still remaining quiet and placed the box perfectly centered on his welcome mat, making sure nothing was out of order. She then scooped up Rocco and ran into the woods before anyone could spot her.

Once out of sight of anyone that could be walking on the paths, Sloane stopped to catch her breath, setting Rocco back down. "Sorry boy." The dog didn't seem bothered in the slightest. He looked like he though they were playing a game and he was ready to do the running himself this time. She smiled and nodded her head. "Alright. Let's go get your dad some food." Rocco happily lead them through the woods until they popped out in the field that stretched out in front of the main hall. Sloane didn't actually know if dogs were allowed on camp or in the main hall... She never saw one before. But if the campers could turn into lions, what damage would one puppy do?

β€œI like to hold my cards close to my chest,” was all she received. She smiled slightly to herself at that typical Sylas response, like they had never missed a beat in their dynamic. Indeed, Evelyn was well and truly aware of how close he liked to hold his cards. Even so, she thought the spars they recently witnessed would make a withstanding topic and prove particularly entertaining to Sylas given it was a showdown of the demigods in a sense and fights. But he didn't bite for long, or even at all really, meanwhile, Evelyn had other matters chewing her up.

They found a small opening among the woods, and Sylas decided it was the place to be as he took himself to the centre of it and sat there with a casual demeanor, as Evelyn drifted back. Even in such beautiful scenery, there was something daunting about Sylas among flecks of sunlight and shadows, and it felt briefly like she was little red riding hood and he was the wolf. Yet, he remained magnetic. As Evelyn moseyed over to join him, Sylas spoke, looking up at her as she stood over him. β€œWhy haven’t you asked me about it?” Her heart jumped. Sylas was far too cluey to the subjects and inner dilemmas she wanted to avoid. β€œDo I frighten you?”

She stared at him for some time. Not in contemplation because she knew her answer, but to watch him and study his reactions. β€œDo you want me to be frightened of you?” Evelyn looked him over, praying not.

More to the point, she didn’t answer his questions and he likely wouldn’t let it slide unless she outright refused. Rather, she sighed. Evelyn didn't bother to lie to him out of respect for his intelligence and he always answered her queries. β€œI’m not above curiosity killed the cat, you know that. But the trials...” she shook her head to herself, looking past him, β€œblew me away. I could barely digest my own then,” involuntarily a hand gestured to him before she could help it, β€œothers came up. So I guess I'm just a bit overwhelmed with the backlog of information and what to do with it more than anything.” Evelyn's eyes came to rest back on him. She wasn't afraid of what she admitted and speaking her mind. The trials were a lot for even the toughest demigods.

She was certainly interested to have Sylas's take on the trials or reactions at the mention of the forsaken task. However, Sylas wasn't much for heart on his sleeve, sharing what's on his mind and talking unprompted. And Evelyn wasn't going to pose any questions outright about the trial because it seemed in poor taste. She'd also be a fool to expect Sylas to reply with anything she could actually gauge. Unsatisfied with her own true but previous substituted statement, she cut the painted words. β€œI suppose there’s no good answer you could give,” she said. The blunt answer encompassed all; how there were no seeable avenues for a smooth explanation on his trial, how there was no wriggle room once she asked and she didn’t want to hear more about his darkness, how thrilling it might have felt, how defeated she was in this particular matter. Evelyn already felt an idiot. Though she had tried to convince herself to stay away from him and had outstanding evidence of his unfavourable nature, she couldn't tune him out. His trial and his spar, the son of Eris himself, Evelyn paid special mind to it all.

Finally, she knelt on the earth beside him and shifted her legs to the side with one arm braced on the ground. She supposed she didn’t technically answer whether she was afraid or frightened by him either. But her previously seeking him out and now getting down to his level in a vulnerable position might've shown better. He was difficult to place and trust. That's largely what fear was about. A lot of beings feared the unknown. However, Evelyn had demonstrated she was willing to explore the aspects of Sylas and get somewhat familiar. But the fact he didn't fit neatly into a pecking order or wear a title as Evelyn could often organise people into made him an unknown and possible treacherous land; something to be cautious of. β€œI'm wary of you.” The aloud observation came out managing to be void of judgement and nastiness. It was just.... an observation and her feelings. β€œI should be afraid, stay away, but...I don't entirely want to.”

For all the bad and untrustworthy she conveyed him in, she found herself reaching for him tentatively, hand slipping along the ground and closer to his body with her eyes forward. She pulled up just short of touching him because she wasn't sure if she was allowed or should indulge her attraction to the spider.

"Of course," Blair replied with a smile and nonchalant shrug. "You have a great body, but the boys at this camp should have to work for it... At least a little." She smirked.

Blair stood there patiently holding up the towel as the redhead sifted through her bag to find the extra clothes. "Just because it's a spare outfit doesn't mean it should be an ugly one," she jested with a smile.

Once the girl was presentable, Blair tossed the towel back to Nick after he excused everyone for the day. She flashed him a wink and suggestive smile before he disappeared to get some food. Before she got the chance to introduce herself to the lion girl, a brunette entered the arena and walked straight up to the redhead. "Wow, Rae, that shapeshifting skill of yours was so cool. You and Trinity are awesome. Say maybe one day we have an all-girls night and go skinny dipping." Then she giggled.

It took a lot of self-control for Blair to not burst out in laughter. There definitely would have been a snort. Instead, her brows scrunched up in a strange curious, yet confused expression. "Can't say I've ever heard 'skinny dipping' and 'girls night' used in the same sentence before." She spared a playful look towards Rae before looking back at the brunette. "You should at least buy her dinner before trying to get her naked... Don't you think?" She cocked her head to the side while raising a brow.

"I mean, I don’t know if you want to go skinny-dipping here. You might catch the attention of certain Demi goddesses and find yourself… mmm… How should I put this?" She looked toward Blair for a bit of help on that. Rae had been going somewhere, but she lost the direction.

"Besides, skinny-dipping is no fun when all the men aren’t interested." She sighed at that. It was the truth. The guy she got along with very well when she first got here was gone. A shame. He was handsome and very good in bed.

Cherise was going to go to Rae, but she watched the interaction between her best friend and Blair for some time. There were many days in these last few years where the gentler soul thought that the fiery redhead would finally meet her match in friends. She smiled lightly, knowing that it was hard for the daughter of Artemis to attract other women to her.

Her mind was quickly drawn to Sylas, whenever she caught him in the corner of her eyes. The girl was so confused about the fight. There were so many questions in her head. Had there been a real reason for her to submit? She could have sworn that she had the upper hand, but somehow… she did not.

If Daniel, or anyone at all, had been talking to her, it went in one ear and out of the other. It wasn’t too long before she realized that she had been staring at Sylas in a daydreaming state. Cherise’s head shook as if she had to wake herself up from her thoughts and come back to reality.

Maybe it was nothing. She stood, rubbed the back of her neck, and then moved down the steps.

While Rae was tugging on the clothes, she managed to be half pulling up a pair of cute shorts and also grabbing her friend as she tried to sneak on by, "This is Cherise, Apollo’s daughter. We’re almost like - midlife crisis besties if midlife were the teenage years."

Cherise obviously turned her attention to Blair and smiled, as she was one of the most friendly Demigods around Camp Athens. There was no reason to be rude. She might not be feisty or swiftly witty like her gal pal, Rae, but she didn’t like to assume anything about anyone without reason. For now, Rae’s friends could easily be her friends, so long as all tolerated each other. "Hi! You didn’t get to fight, did you?" She scoffed a bit, "Lucky you. Wish the gods would be a little more creative with their β€˜training’."

"Trust me, that is not a fight anyone wants to see. I’d hit the ground faster than my dear brother." Blair laughed toward Cherise as she joined them. "Well, it’s nice to meet you Cherise… and Rae," she added with a smirk and a nod toward Rae. The skinny dipper tipped her off to the lioness’s name, so there was no need for her to introduce herself. She was smart enough to put two and two together. "I’m Blair.. The knight with a shining purse." She chuckled at her own corny joke.

Rae had finished putting everything on and looked back at Cherise, "You did great out there, girlie. I honestly thought you almost had him. Whatever happened?"

Cherise shrugged, "Not sure… I’m a bit bothered by it, but I don’t want to drive myself crazy." She started to walk backward a few steps, "I’ll let you three catch up, though!"

Rae’s brows furrowed slightly as Cherise turned her back from them to depart. There was a slight look of concern on her face, and she dragged that look all the way to Sylas. If he managed to catch her, she’d just wink at him.

Blair couldn’t help but notice Cherise’s lingering gazes on Sylas. Was that who she sparred with? It was hard to keep them all straight. "She fought Sylas?" She decided to ask rather than skim the recesses of her memory for vague glimpses of fights she didn’t care about. "I wasn’t paying much attention, to be honest. But he’s always been an enigma for as long as I’ve known him." She glanced over at the tall drink of water with a quirk of her brow. "He’s great in bed though," she added with a playful smirk toward Rae.

Rae threw her hands up defensively, "Do you think he’d appreciate the fun that comes in pairs?" It was playful but flirty at the same time. No one said that straight women can’t flirt with other women!

"What man wouldn’t?" Blair mused. As if any man would turn down the offer of two women in his bed. Especially women that were as enticing as themselves. "If you’re half the tomcat in bed as you are in person, I’d imagine no man stands a chance."

Rae tilted her head and placed a hand on her hip in thought, "I wonder if being too much of a tomcat is what drove the first and last man I had in bed here out of camp." The redhead laughed, but on the inside - it was a shame. Drake? Drake. Drake was totally not her type, but he was shaggy and on the quieter side. It was kind of hot.

"That’s impressive," Blair mused with a curious tilt of her head. "I can’t deny that it’s fun to give some men a little scare, but if he never returned it’s definitely his loss." She surveyed the leaving campers, pursing her lips in a pensive expression. "There looks to be a couple decent options left… Nick wasn’t a terrible lay," she added, motioning her head toward the retreating son of Poseidon. "Not the most giving, but he got the job done, and isn’t bad on the eyes." She smirked with an innocent shrug.

Blair knew the entirety of camp heard a bit of their tumble earlier. She wasn’t a bashful woman and she had nothing to be ashamed of. Once everyone saw her arrive at training with Nick, whatever questions they might have had were quickly answered. She doubted he was going to be the only man that found his way into her bed, and with how flirtatious he seemed, she wouldn’t be surprised if he got a few other ladies himself. Although, from what little she saw of Rae, the woman would make a slave out of him in no time.

Rae spared a glance elsewhere and noticed a lone soul wandering off. Her predatory eyes locked on Duke, "You know… I haven’t properly met that one. He’s cute." She pointed in his general direction. Then she unabashedly hooked her arm in with Blair’s own, "Shall we?"

Not one to turn down a little bit of fun, Blair let the redhead drag her along. "We shall."

The two gals would catch up with Duke, and Rae stepped in front of him. With her head cocked to the side she grinned, "Long time no see, Handsome."

Blair smirked, cocking her head to the side in a playful manner. "I’m Blair… A name I’m sure you won’t soon forget," she introduced herself while holding out her right hand.

Wes seemed to evaluate her hypothetical spar question and answer truthfully. And it was true that now he had an arm possessing the strength of a terminator he might have had the increased odds of one-upping his opponents. For Trinity, and Wes she imagined, it was a blessing and a curse, or at least Wes liked to be more bright side about it whereas even Trinity saw it as half a reminder of what he lost. But she was grateful Duke cooked up an enhanced arm for the son of Aphrodite overall.

"If we were boxing I might of won," he said with a chuckle. "Why? Are you wanting to train me?"

Trinity grinned and waved down a hand. β€œEasy, Rocky. You gotta earn the privilege to be trained by a star athlete,” she joked. Besides, more realistically he had seen what the Ares siblings were like when training others. Eg. Sloane.

Of course her man had found them a vacant table with ease, navigating through the other bodies to find a decent spot for the pair. And similarly, of course, she worried briefly her early dinner discussion had dampened his spirit when he sighed and slouched back in his chair. "I don't know how I feel about it," he answered.

She matched his sad smile briefly, before averting her gave, pursing her lips and forking around her own food.

"I never was ok with what she did to Jennova. It was still murder, but I feel like everyone deserves a second chance. If I was judged solely based on how I was when I came to camp... I don't think we'd be where we are now." The statement made her lift her gaze back on him, meeting his eyes.

β€œSuppose not,” she muttered under her breath. More to herself than him. She was glad for his turn around and to have him. It'd be a whole alternate universe if Wes stayed the way he first was, to the point they wouldn't even be sitting together and he would have bedded most the camp already. But even so, he wasn't on par with Alex's stunt. And it took...a lot not to argue that. They were completely different people.

"She seemed sorry for it, or at least I thought she was. But then she nearly killed Andy. I don't know all of what happened to cause Alex to go after her, but... That's just not ok," he followed on with. It was good at least he wasn't blinded by the godly ladder and status quo, acknowledging her royal screw-ups. "I'm mad she left without taking accountability. And I think it's unfair that a daughter of Zeus can murder and nearly do it again, and get what? A slap on the wrist and a trip to Olympus? While Liam went to Tartarus for a day."

Trinity raised her brows at his own admittance. Now that it had been verbally highlighted it sounded incredibly ridiculous and unfair. Everyone knew it but now just....wow. She stabbed some food on her fork and popped it in her mouth to stop any nasty comments, gestures or looks. They wouldn't be meant or directed at Wesley, but the circumstances her brother had to face compared to little miss sun shines out of her arse. She might've thrown in a joke how Tartarus was like the strict school that reformed gods in other circumstances, but she couldn't because that was her blood that copped the punishment without trial, no chance, no warning and he got sent to the worst place in existence.

Wes laughed lightly out of the blue. "Apparently I just need more friends." Was his epic conclusion. A little burn-y personally but... At the same time, he reached for her slowly and began softly stroking her forearm. "You're all I need... But I'm pretty sure you'd murder me if I just followed you around all the time."

He drew a smile out of her. Wes seemed to read her mind by seeing the other side of discussions and potential misinterpretations and insults. He even placed a sweet assuring kiss on her knuckles making her eyes light up with further admiration for him. She mockingly cheekily shrugged in response with a smirk. β€œMaybe. Maybe not.”

She returned to what remained of her food. A table nearby had Iliana awkwardly lingering over Nick for some counsel probably. Guess she'd see just what the son of Poseidon's duty was here. "What about Theo? How do you feel about that?" Even through all the talking, Wes managed to beat her to an empty plate. Trinity nodded finishing the last mouthful and wiping her mouth with a napkin. "He seems to come and go a lot without a word... And is gone more than he's around."

β€œGreat question. Um....the guy's a ghost,” Trinity put simply. β€œDon't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for him, and he has a lot of other consuming duties and... it's a shame but it's reality. There are times where I think we could use his expertise more and camp should be the priority but...you know we don't really owe each other anything?” Trinity squinted hoping that made sense. Theo had no obligation to tell her his schedule and though it sucked, it was just the way the cookie crumbled. Trinity didn't take it personally. And had roles been reversed she was sure he wouldn't take it personally either.

β€œSpeaking of ghosts,” Trinity reached forward this time for Wes's hands. β€œIf I do go missing without a word it's probably not by choice. It's probably...” she paused to contemplate the scenarios β€œreally bad. Or like a mega important emergency. I just want you to know I wouldn’t leave you without…anything.” She never felt the need to justify herself before but Wes was important to her and she didn’t want him thinking she’d just up and vanish on him if she could help it. If it was some sort of abduction even for instance, she’d leave one hell of a struggle.

With all laid out on the table, at least the buzzing topics, Trinity sat back. In their silence, though probably peaceful to Wes, Trinity’s mind was quick to draw to his mechanical arm. Even though it was one of those things now and Wes had adapted well, it was an elephant at the same time, no one else had an arm or limb like that and…. She had to wonder how much he missed being full flesh. Trinity pursed her lips. They had talked plenty about it and if she kept bringing it up, Wes would probably think she had a problem with it but one big query did enter. β€œDoes any of your family know about the accident?” she pointed with her fork to the prosthetic briefly and almost felt guilty for daring to ask, afraid for the answer. She knew his family and him didn't have the tightest relationship but....if your kid loses an arm in war...- well she just thought that was a bit note-worthy at the least. Maybe Aphrodite would have popped down, checked his well-being, seen what she could do about the arm herself rather than a son of Hephaestus. The current circumstances pretty much painted a picture, either way, it being quite ugly.

Trinity sighed. β€œSorry. Blondie question.” She tried a weak smile at him before scooping up the dishes. β€œAll done? Wanna head back to the cabins?”

She put away their dishes for cleaning and regrouped to head for her cabin. Wesley's was nicer but she always felt a little out of place, like her rough nature was enough alone to ruin his whole home or break stuff.

Nick had been minding his own business, feeding his voracious and seemingly neverending appetite.

"Um, hi, sorry for interrupting, but I just wanted to ask you a quick question. You're here to help us train better right? I need to become a smarter fighter. Can you help me in that area? If you can't it's fine, I'll ask someone else." It was the voice of a female, which intrigued him. Obviously. When he glanced up, he sort of cocked his head to the side and gave her a studious glance over.

A light smile touched his lips because he’s a friendly guy. There was no need to be rude. As imposing as he might appear, Nicholas was a down-to-earth sweetheart – intercom oopsies aside. He picked up a plump red apple, planted an elbow on the tabletop, and took a crunchy bite out of it. It was a bit juicier than he imagined, so a bit of it ran down the corner of his mouth and dribbled down his jawline.

Smooth. Real smooth.

He was letting Iliana soak in her own question for a bit as he formulated his own opinion. Being the son of Poseidon, he supposed it was only fair that someone comes to him. He was the child of one of the three greatest gods. Supposedly, anyway.

"A smarter fighter," he parroted while his head nodded a few times and he took another bite of the apple. He glanced over her shoulder for a moment to spare a look at Ethan and Heath but paid them no mind for now. It seemed that the girl had come here of her own volition. He gestured toward the seat in front of him.

Nicholas, while he was many things that might make him appear untrustworthy, didn’t have an ounce of malicious intent in his bones. "Do you need to be a smarter fighter or a confident one? I’m not that smart, so I can’t give you the smart fighter playbook." He tapped the side of his head to make a point. "Don’t answer that. You already know. You’ve got to have confidence."

He finished up the apple while letting her stew in his words for a few minutes. There was no rush. As far as he was concerned, the girl seemed legitimately in need of some kind of guidance. He didn’t know anything about the Demigods here, so her wasn’t going to pretend to have knowledge that he didn’t possess. What he could offer was his view of her spar, which he watched closely, even if his head was planted in another person’s lap.

It was a nice lap… His thoughts drifted for a moment.

He blinked and was back to the matter at hand. He sighed deeply and let it out slowly, "The truth is that you will most likely never know your opponent. Unless you’re a super genius or maybe it’s your arch-enemy. You just need to know yourself and your own abilities. You don’t even have the basic skills to begin fighting β€œsmartly”."

As he started to list off a few things, he lifted his hands and pointed to one finger for each item, "Confidence– first and most importantly. You don’t know your strengths, weaknesses, and the depths and limitations of your abilities." It might have sounded cruel or judgemental, but it wouldn’t serve anyone well to be dishonest about things. These things might be hard to hear, but they were necessary.

He crossed both of his arms over the table and leaned forward, "I’m not sure anyone can help you with those things. You have to find those on your own. Until you know all of that, no one can teach you how to fight." He looked her in the eyes, "But that doesn’t mean we can’t try."

He slapped the table top and gave her a wide and goofy smile, "But it’s going to cost you! You’ll need to be up at 5 am ready to learn. I’ll need a couple of hours of your time, too. It’s not an easy task, but I’m confident that you’ll get there eventually."

He pulled himself up and took a couple of steps forward. He gave her a light pat on the shoulder, "See you before the sun’s up tomorrow," he reminded her while getting on his way.

When he was on the way out, he slipped past Sloane and Rocco. "Cute pup," he mentioned in passing. He stopped for a moment and took a step back, "Good fight, too." Nick gave her a wink, tucked his hands into his pockets, and resumed his forward motion to the next destination. Wherever that was. He’s not sure. Sometimes he just wanders…

After some time he had stumbled upon a glint of red hair in the distance. Evelyn. Not that he knew her name. He could have gotten his jacket from her at that time, but with a single step forward, Sylas’ figure slipped into his field of vision. Shame.

It was probably better that way. While he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed already, he was dullest when around beautiful women.

He turned to head in another direction, not about to intrude on someone else’s conversation. He didn’t care anyway.

Eventually, Nick found his way to a cliff, and in the longest distance, his sister was in the middle of the ocean looking like an evil Little Mermaid. He stood there with his arms crossed over his chest and wondered how much longer they would have to play this game. Nicholas didn’t want what his father forcefully bestowed upon him. If he could just hand it off to his wanting sister, he would do it in a heartbeat. He didn’t blame her for how she was beginning to turn out. It was not easy being the daughter of Poseidon – a misogynistic piece of work. She would be better suited than him. He wanted to be free of burdens but was overwhelmed by them.

It was just a shame. All that potential was slipping into the dark. He was supposed to be here for everyone, but he couldn’t help but feel drawn to trying to lift his sister up. She loathed him, but he didn’t hate her. He was sorry that he was her brother… and that being his sister, even if she was stronger or more willing… she was automatically beneath him because of that.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. What could he do, though?

"You should at least buy her dinner before trying to get her naked... Don't you think?"

It took Nelly a minute to figure out what the new girl was saying. When she did, she burst out in laughter.

"Good point, but I doubt it'll happen with a girl at least. I am pretty straight. Still I will freely admit I am clueless when it comes to attracting guys. Never had time for it due to traveling a lot and my mother was more focused on her job. Heck she rarely dated herself and said the only reason she hooked up with my dad for one night was because he had this 'aura' about him that attracted her. She had no idea he was a God though. Oh my dad is Hermes. Anyway, my name is Penelope, but I go by Nelly."

The conversation flowed around her, Cherise showed up and Rae introduced the new girl to her. Even though Nelly was a talkative person, this time around she decided to just listen in before responding to anything. The new girl finally introduced herself as Blair, and Nelly couldn't help but wonder who her divine parent was. Her thoughts stayed focused on the three though as Rae commented on Cherise's duel. Yeah, it certainly did seem that Cherise did have the upper hand. She too wondered what happened. After Cherise finished speaking, Nelly decided to speak up.

"I am bummed out I didn't get to duel. While I know I don't have fighting skills like you two, I do wish I could have had the opportunity to test out my skills. Maybe we'll pick up again tomorrow?"

That was when Blair spoke up and it sounded like she knew Sylas. Hearing she had slept with the man caused Nelly to sigh.

"You three really are good with guys. I seriously don't have any game at all. Maybe one of you could give me some tips. I was playing 7 Minutes in Heaven with Sylas for company and nothing came out of it. I think I annoyed the guy honestly."

The other three continued to talk and Nelly was enjoying their banter, even though Rae and Blair did most of the talking. She was a bit envious honestly, but she wouldn't let it get to her too much.

"You know… I haven’t properly met that one. He’s cute."

Nelly looked in the direction that Rae was looking and saw Duke. She never talked to the guy either. Before she knew it both Rae and Blair headed in his direction. Wishing the two luck, she turned to Cherise.

"You're archery skills are amazing, Cherise. That's definitely something I wouldn't mind learning myself. So what do you want to do now? Want to find Daniel?" she asked that last question with a wink.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iliana listened carefully as Nick spoke to her. It never occurred to her that what she was lacking was confidence. Thinking back, whenever she saw both Heath and Ethan use their powers, most of the time they had no issues. They did have their fears of course, and with Heath he was scarred of one his own abilities, or not being able to perform it correctly. She wondered if that was connected to being confident in some way.
Finally Nick said, "I’m not sure anyone can help you with those things. You have to find those on your own. Until you know all of that, no one can teach you how to fight. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try."
It was then he offered to start working with her at 5 am tomorrow. Iliana's eyes lit up and she smiled nodding in excitement. Getting up early was never an issue, even though she tended to get up around 6 am to do some gardening.
"Thank you! I really appreciate it," she said before he left.
She watched him as he greeted Sloane and then leave. Suddenly her stomach grumbled and she realized she hadn't ate yet. Getting some food, she returned to Ethan and Heath.
"So how'd it go? Ethan asked.
"He said he'd help me, but I have to be up by 5 am. He didn't tell me where to meet though."
"Probably at the arena since that seems to the area for training. That's my best guess though. Do you want us to go with you?"
"No, this is something I must do for myself."
The trio stopped talking and finished eating. After they finished up, Ethan spoke up again.
"Well we still got time to do stuff. Do either of you plan on doing something?"
"I am going to head back to the cabin. I need to email my father since I promised him I email him once a week. Plus I am sure he'll want to know that Iliana can speak again. Then I think I'll work on my writing a bit since I've been neglecting it."
"Oh, can you tell father I said hi, Heath. I plan on finding either Lochlan or Cherise. I wanted to check on both of them to see if they were okay, plus I miss interacting with Cherise."
"You might find either of them near the arena since that was the last area we were at. Whelp, I am going to go.
I'll take your plates."
Heath said before taking the dirty dishes to the back and then leaving.
Once he left, Ethan and Iliana sat a bit longer before leaving themselves, both going in different directions.
Son of Hephaestus | HEX: #780707 | Outfit
Image As the spars rolled on, Duke watched with attentiveness to see what his peers were made of and how much fire and competition consumed them when faced with a challenge. Not many got carried away as he might have thought, if anyone at all, and everyone showed surprising restraint, not even showboating. Even Liv though her approach was manipulative and petty for his liking. But especially even the Ares kids. Little known to the eyes of the son of Poseidon, Duke would count what was displayed by everyone as progress and he was somewhat proud and glad, sure that would avert the eyes of the Gods and their need for messengers and spies for a while at least.
The finale however, raised a few brows, and Duke was among them, not immune to the spectacle before having the sense to look away clearing his throat. Even if it seemed Rae didn't mind in the slightest it still felt wrong with a bunch of hounds drooling over her. Nick concluded the exercise and the demigods dispersed, Duke being the kind to take his time and let others rush off if they wished, but he didn't lounge around either.
Apparently, his pace tinted with patience earned him a nice intercept from the previously raw red head. She had a brunette friend hooked to her arm, one he hadn't seen until today. He looked between them knowing this could only be trouble, rounded up by minxes. "Long time no see, Handsome."
He smiled tightly at the familiar female. Not because it was a nuisance but because he wasn’t used to women’s persistent and assertive advances. "Hi."
"I’m Blair… A name I’m sure you won’t soon forget." The other introduced. Perhaps he should have added straight forward to that list of what he wasn’t used to by women.
That tight formed smile remained in place. "Duke," he introduced simply and held out his hand for a shake. If he was more of the Casanova he would’ve kissed the girls’ hands but that wasn’t him. Down and dirty and to the point was more his speed. Duke nodded to them as he looked between them. "Ladies." He tried to slide past them as respectfully as possible but they formed an effective barricade with their petiteness and cute looks. Anyone else might be considered lucky to have two beautiful girls hit on them…then again…Duke hunched it mightn’t have been an exact privilege with these two. He backed up a bit to keep the predatory girls in view. Now if he just diverted the conversation from any means of suggestion.
"It’s a shame we didn’t get to see you in the spars but also good. Means people can’t figure you out in a real battle," Duke offered to Blair. And looking back at Rae well…it was hard not to visualize her naked now. His eyes darted away from her guiltily. "And you did a really good job, especially fairing against an offspring of Ares. I thought you almost had her."
Talking tactics and battle strategies probably wasn't going to stimulate the girls and they'd probably find him a bore for being so evaluative when in the face of beauties who weren't looking for feedback or tips. He wasn't throwing them any kind of bone. But what else did he have to do in such a hurry? Duke inhaled deeply and probably against better judgement spoke. "Did youse wanna grab a bite at the hall?"
He gave them a moment for decision then whether they were in tow or not, he proceeded onwards where food called. It was indisputable that they were attractive but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to remember either of them for high praise in sexual performance and even then which one would it be anyway? Duke shook himself out of it, jumping a few buildings ahead. It was wrong to be presumptive and normally his mind was on a much higher and clearer path. Although.... it had been a while...
"You're both satisfied with your cabins? If you ever need anything, any maintenance or the kind, I have the abilities of Hephaestus." Seemed to be the more he talked, the less he thought about being with one of them. He'd grasp at straws if he must.
Trinity listened patiently as he answered her question. Alex was a bit of a sore subject, but either way, there was nothing he could do about it. The Valises left and that was the end of it. They went to live out the Zeus kid dream in Olympus while the rest of them remained at camp. It wasn't fair, but it wouldn't be the first time they received favoritism because of their father. He tried not to dwell on it.
Luckily, Trinity to smile at his joke about his lack of friends. "Maybe. Maybe not," she replied. Maybe a small part of Trinity liked when he followed her around like a puppy. But she had other friends, and he knew not everyone, like Mason, would be thrilled if Wes tagged along constantly. He'd make some new friends eventually. Maybe Duke, the dude did make him an arm after all.
The shift in conversation to Theo didn't seem to bother Trinity, thankfully. "Great question. Um....the guy's a ghost. Don't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for him, and he has a lot of other consuming duties and... it's a shame but it's reality. There are times where I think we could use his expertise more and camp should be the priority but...you know we don't really owe each other anything?"
Wes nodded his head. "Makes sense. I just wondered if it bothered you. His friendship is obviously important enough to you for him to pop up in your trial." He then held up his hand in playful manner. "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I don't have to see him drool over you everyday," He laughed softly. "But I don't wish anything bad on the guy. He seems nice enough. I don't know if I'm in a rush to be his friend, but..." He shrugged. "He means a lot to you."
"Speaking of ghosts," Trinity started before reaching out and taking his hands. "If I do go missing without a word it's probably not by choice. It's probably..." While she paused, Wes's eyes widened. Was she about to drop some major bombshell on him? He instantly began to panic wondering what she meant. "Really bad. Or like a mega important emergency. I just want you to know I wouldn’t leave you without…anything."
Wes let out a very audible sigh of relief. "Jesus christ woman, you know how to give me a heart attack." He laughed weakly as he tried to calm down realizing the conversation was more hypothetical than her life was actually in danger or something. He slowly leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. His thumbs gently stroked the tops of her hands. "I know," he replied quietly with a smile. "I highly doubt there will ever be a reason I need to leave camp... probably kidnapping. Which I'd be sure to leave the best breadcrumb trail ever." He flashed a cheeky grin, hoping his stupid joke would bring a small smile to her face.
When their conversation had grown silent, while Wes was comfortable in the silence, Trinity's face showed that the wheels were firing on all cylinders. He took that moment to get to his feet and grab them both something to sweet to finish their meal with. After a couple minutes, he return to their table with two ice cream cones in hand. "Does any of your family know about the accident?"
He froze for a second at the abrupt question. Wes handed her one of the ice creams before sitting back down. He sighed heavily, puffing out his lips in the process. He rubbed his brow in thought before finally answering. "I'm sure my mother knows... I mean she is a Goddess," he said with a jokingly sarcastic tone. "But I never told my dad, if that's what you mean." He shrugged and took a large bite of ice cream.
"I uh... Don't even think he'd answer the phone if I called." His lips pulled back into a tight smile. It wasn't a subject Wes liked talking about. Hell, he usually forgot his father existed, if that said anything. But this was Trinity... She was the only person at camp he could share anything with. She already knew some of his shitty past, why not add some more. "I was flunking out of school and when my dad realized I wasn't going to Yale like him, he wanted nothing to do with me... So I was sent here." He shrugged and took another bite. "He'd probably just add it to a running list of how 'I'm a failure and not deserving of the Preston name,'" he mocked his dad with a grumpy expression, moving his mechanical hand in a blah blah blah manner.
Trinity sighed. "Sorry. Blondie question. All done?"
Wes smiled, finishing up his cone. "You're fine, sweetheart. I honestly hadn't thought about it." He stands up and helps her start gathering their plates and trash. "Camp... you are more family than he's ever been. The only person I worry about telling everything to is you." He smiled before placing a tender kiss on top of her head.
"Wanna head back to the cabins?" Trinity asked.
He nodded his head in agreement. Once they were free of their dishes, Wes moved to walk alongside her, draping his arm across her shoulders. He didn't mind whose cabin they went to, either was fine with him. "You mentioned wanting to keep some clothes in my cabin, I could make some room in my closet if you'd like. Or, I could grab some clothes for your place?" Instantly realizing how that might sound, he laughed nervously and began rambling. "Only if you want. We don't have to. I just might start running out of basketball shorts." He scratched his head. "Not that I'm assuming you'd stay the night again or whatever."
Wes's face scrunched up as he grew embarrassed at his own ridiculous rambling and gave up. He sighed, running his hand back through his hair. "Sorry... I just, don't want to mess this up," he said softly as he looked down at her.
Evelyn was silent when he posed the all important question. It didn't take a genius to know that a trial as dark as his would be prying at her every thought. While they played this cat and mouse game well, Sylas would rather her just ask or say whatever she needed, to clear the air. While he was an enigma to most, she got glimpses no one else had. Part of him wanted to rip off the bandaid so he could know, once and for all, if she was truly done with him or if there might still be something worth salvaging.
"Do you want me to be frightened of you?" She replied with a question of her own, looking over at him.
Sylas plucked a small dandelion and twisted the stem mindlessly between his index finger and thumb. "No," he replied plainly, without looking up to meet her gaze. Funny, how a single word could carry more weight and truth in it than thousands. He always played the long deceptive game, but in that moment he might have given her the most straightforward answer yet. In fairness, he never seeks out to frighten anyone. While being feared is a sensation like none other, he isn't playing his role right if people are openly frightened by him. Deception is his game, not intimidation... Not unless given no other choice. "Although you should be," he added, slowly looking up into her eyes.
Evelyn sighed, deciding to address his first question. "I’m not above curiosity killed the cat, you know that. But the trials... blew me away. I could barely digest my own then," she motioned towards him. "others came up. So I guess I'm just a bit overwhelmed with the backlog of information and what to do with it more than anything."
He nodded his head in acknowledgement. While she spoke about the trials, Evelyn didn't answer his question, not really. What could he say in response to that? Sylas would be an idiot if he didn't think everyone left that arena shaken... In more ways than one. Not only were they forced to face their darkest demons that festered in their souls, but they also had to watch themselves play the monster in other trials or witness the darker truths of the people they thought they knew. The trials were going to linger around camp for sometime. Avoiding the questions would only postpone the inevitable.
"I suppose there’s no good answer you could give," Evelyn admitted. No flowery words or talking each other in circles, just the simple truth.
He couldn't argue. He nodded his head slowly before tossing the flower off into the field. While a different man might beg to explain his trial, to show he isn't the monster that was portrayed, he did no such thing. Sylas was not the begging type. People saw him however they saw him and far be it for him to try and convince them otherwise. He knew who he was. Evelyn had a glimpse past the curtains, which was more than others could say. She didn't admit to being frightened, but she didn't give him reason to think otherwise.
Surprisingly, while Sylas expected her to turn and leave when he did not argue her point, Evelyn stepped forward and lowered herself to ground beside him. "I'm wary of you." As you should be. "I should be afraid, stay away, but...I don't entirely want to."
Sylas couldn't help but look over at her as her last words rung in his ears. Evelyn looked nothing short of a goddess in the speckled sunlight that illuminated her from beyond the leaves. The redheaded beauty was the light, while Liv was the darkness. He belonged with someone like Liv who thrived in the darkness and didn't expect anything from him beyond who he was. She fed into his worse habits and helped them thrive. Yet Evelyn... She was like a magnet. This beautiful creature that should be as far from him as possible. But no, she was there, her hand slowly inching across the grass closer to his own.
It took a fair bit of self control for Sylas not to close the distance between them. He had Evelyn once before, and her presence was quickly becoming more and more intoxicating. But, as he also said, he keeps his cards close to his chest. While a thousand impulsive thoughts could cross his mind in a day, he rarely acted on them... No matter how tempting. He sat there, silent, watching her hand move closer and just when he thought she might touch him, she withdrew.
Before he could think through his actions, or she could fully pull away, Sylas's hand jumped forward the few inches and gently pinned her hand to the ground between them. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in your own trial." Out of everyone's trials that played out in the arena, Evelyn's was the one he couldn't quite figure out. Perhaps that was because she was the one person at camp that was a mystery. An unsolved puzzle kept drawing him back. People were usually so predictable, but not her. He always wanted to know more... much like she did with him.
After a long moment of silence, Sylas's gaze slowly trailed up her porcelain arm until it met her own. "I would tell you, if you asked." His voice was the smallest bit softer, in a way that most might not have noticed. He kept his gaze there, locked with hers, for what might have felt like an eternity. He gave her the opening, all she had to do was cross the threshold and bite. Then as quickly as it opened, the door began to close. He slowly started to turn away as his fingers slipped from her hand.
"Duke," he replied. Well isn't he chatty. He formed some sort of tight, bordering on constipated smile as a greeting. If it were a different circumstance Blair might have even commented on it. Perhaps pull the line men love to pull on women. 'You should smile more.' But no, instead she smiled all the brighter as she took his hand and shook it.
It seemed the girls' presence made him uncomfortable, not surprising. Shortly after introductions, Duke wasted no time trying to worm his way out of their conversation. How cute. Like he thought he could slip away so easily. Blair wasn't holding Rae's arm tight like keeping the boy there in that conversation was the end of the world, but she wasn't stepping out of his way when he tried escaping either. Who wouldn't want to talk to such lovely creatures as themselves? Of course, if they bored him, Blair would be better off wasting her time on someone like Nick who could, at least, keep up with her.
It didn't take long for Duke to except his fate and try to converse with them for a moment... Even if it was the most boring of topics. "It’s a shame we didn’t get to see you in the spars but also good. Means people can’t figure you out in a real battle."
Blair laughed. "Not much to figure out there, I'm afraid." She shrugged her shoulders. "I have a mind for battle, but there's always a disconnect between theory and execution." While others might have been ashamed at their lack of combat knowledge, it didn't bother her. She wasn't the fighting type. It'd ruin her clothes and she could break a nail. There weren't many situations she couldn't talk her way out of and if she did find herself in the middle of a fight, she could get others to fight those battles for her. She was thankful she didn't have to spar. She would have just gotten dirty and looked stupid.
Duke then gave Rae a much deserved compliment. Blair didn't watch the entirety of the fight, because... Well, she didn't much care for spars and what not. But she saw enough of it. Although she didn't know that the girl went against a child of Ares. So, if anything, that makes her spar even more impressive.
If he was trying to bore them, it worked, for Blair at least. Then, as if knowing she wasn't thrilled by the conversation, he inhaled deeply and asked, "Did youse wanna grab a bite at the hall?"
Blair's eyes lit up just a bit before she playfully squeezed Rae's arm. "Starving!"
She let Duke lead the way to the hall because Blair hadn't a clue where it was located. Plus, it gave her a chance to stare at his butt whenever he wasn't paying attention. There's no harm in looking. It wasn't until the mention of food that her stomach really started to scream. She arrived at camp hungry and got... sidetracked before she got a chance to eat. She might act ladylike in most situations, but that wasn't going to stop her from getting way too much food and stuffing her face. She did burn a lot of calories earlier.
"You're both satisfied with your cabins?" Duke continued the conversation as they walked. "If you ever need anything, any maintenance or the kind, I have the abilities of Hephaestus."
Blair's brow quirked in curiosity. "Oh, he's a handy man," she commented more toward Rae with a playful smile. She then met his gaze with a suggestive smirk. "I'm sure I could think of a couple uses for those hands." She wasn't a bashful woman, nor did she beat around the bush. While some find her a bit too forward, it usually worked in her favor. And when it didn't? Well, she got a good chuckle at how nervous they got.
On their way into the main hall, they passed a couple on their way out. The girl was the blonde that Rae had fought against in training and the guy? Blair can't say she noticed him before, but boy did she wish she had. Even though she was flirting with Duke, something about this other guy was almost magnetic. He was, without a doubt, the hottest guy she had seen at camp so far. Before she knew what came over her, she reached out her free hand and got a quick feel of his tight ass.
Wes jumped, turning around surprised and wide eyed. "What the hell!?"
She pivoted on her heels to face him, shrugging innocently. "Sorry, handsome. Just enjoying fine craftsmanship." Blair winked at Wes, before turning around and heading into the hall without missing a beat.
The smell of the food hit Blair like a tsunami. "Gods I didn't realize how hungry I was." She looked over at Duke with a sweet smile. "Be a gentleman and find us a table?" Without waiting for his response Blair was off toward the food with Rae in tow.
Once they were out of ear shot of Duke, she groaned playfully with a roll of her eyes. "He's cute," she commented as she grabbed a plate and started filling it. "But he's about as interesting as a wet blanket. Is he always like that? Or does he just need his cork popped?" she asked before grabbing an apple and taking a bite out of it.
At the handy-man comment, Rae's eyes narrowed in tandem with her really, really wide red-lipped grin. He walked right into it! With Alex gone, they were no longer going to be disturbed and rudely frightened off, so Duke was going to have to get used to fending off women on his own. It couldn't be helped that he seemed to be damned innocent, which was kind of cute in itself.
She went ahead and added her own suggestive comment, "I do have some rather leaky pipes that could use some work." The two gals were going to have their fun, whether or not Duke wanted to. He was free to dismiss himself of course, as there were many other men to climb onto, but he was only going to avoid them for so long. They were not just feisty minxes, but also highly dominant women that didn't mind giving the chase. Forwardness seemed to be their greatest gift, and perhaps, others' inconvenience. The camp needed more outward women, though. You know - to break the metaphorical ice.
Everything was going well until they hit the main hall. Sometimes things were just meant to go wrong. Just as Blair felt it, Rae did as well - the automatic pull of the Aphrodite charm. It was like a drug, and it couldn't be helped. Unfortunately for them all. When Wes' figure emerged, the redhead was instantly gratified.
However, there is this woman named Trinity. The daughter of Ares had an air around her. One of fear. One that almost repelled the son of Aphrodite's undeniable and powerful charm as soon as one locked eyes with her. Blair didn't know that they were dating, so the pheromone repellent did not work on him, but it quickly snapped Rae out of it. She rubbed the side of her neck, as there was nothing like remembering how Trinity practically almost tore it off her shoulders during their spar, to make Rae realize that... Wes was cute, but she had tastier options. He's not her time, she remembered all of a sudden.
Unfortunately for Blair, Rae never got the chance to say anything before she committed a highly dangerous error. As if Rae was not pale enough, she felt the blood rush from her face down to her toes. After taking a step back, she waited for a few moments to judge what was to come. She didn't believe that Trinity was a cruel woman by any means, but that - if she was anything like Liam - a slight like this could warrant serious injury to Blair's person.
"What the hell!?" Wes exclaimed.
She didn't miss a beat after that, smiling warmly at both Trinity and Wes. "Apologies, you two. Blair is new, and I will kindly remind her that we operate on the woman code here at Camp Athens. We don't touch other people's significant others. I'm sure it will be the end of that."
She made a sweeping motion of her hands that indicated all of Wes, "It's simply the Aphrodite pheromones making her do crazy things. She doesn't have the fierce and beautiful Wes-Repellent yet," She then indicated Trinity with the motion of one hand. "You two have a lovely evening. Okay?" After tossing them another reassuring smile, she gave Trinity a gentle pat on the shoulder on the way past her into the main hall.
She caught up with Blair, "His girlfriend almost ripped my head off in the arena while I was a 500-pound lion. I suggest that you somehow find a way to channel those intoxicating pheromones into this thing we, at Camp Athens, call fear." Rae was pleasant about it, of course, just delivering information that could save her life. Of course, it wasn't fair to Trinity that she already had to deal with Wes being the child of Aphrodite. She just didn't want to say that because things for the two of them seemed to be working out, and she'd hate to diminish Trinity's clear work in getting above all of that petty stuff.
Rae then shifted the topic back to Duke and watched him go to find a table, "Not sure. When I first got here I was rudely interrupted by the daughter of Zeus. She's not here anymore, so I don't know why he's being all shy. Maybe he needs a little help operating off of a leash." She quickly shrugged, "He seems responsible. Those types mean we get to chase a little more. That's fun."
She peeled a banana while waiting for Duke and then took a bite. Slowly, especially if he dared to make eye contact.
Gosh, she really missed that shaggy-haired guy. That's what she thought of while shoving a banana into her mouth. Whatever happened to him? A shame. She had a feeling that they would have had an excellent relationship. In the bedroom.
Sylas's hand came over her own indecisive flesh. Rather than assurance and indulgence as it might've typically prompted between anyone else, it struck a brief panic chord in her. The children of Eris's abilities seemed magnified at a touch, and they possessed heavy manipulation-based powers but she didn't try to move her hand either. Trust was risky business. β€œI'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in your own trial.”
Evelyn nodded. She found it somewhat comforting it wasn't a one way investment between them. She tucked some stray strands of hair behind her ear with her free hand. β€œIt's interesting to me too. The boy - man was a piece of my past and I would never guess him to be a criminal. But him knowing me and my inhibitions, calling me out, I didn't like that shift of power and it felt, for a moment at least, like I'd do anything to make him stop talking. Just talking. Not even while he had the gun to me.” It was certainly a frightening experience, someone else having her life in their hands, and that may have caused the initial shift of the upper hand being physical first but, when he started to spout things- her inner demons, and tarnish her reputation, that was really a building moment and tornado of emotions. Most would find threatening a life more cause worthy than admitting secrets.
Nobody's perfect and they all had an id but... Evelyn wanted to be better and rise above common temptations. She wanted to be above the seduction of power and godly egos and complexes.
Among a common temptation was Sylas. Not every person wanted him, but he was almost an epitome of that bad toxic guy that the girl wanted. He had the charm and suave plus the enigma to keep her hooked. She could probably translate her whole trial as a metaphor for how over her head she was getting with Sylas. And by explaining her trial now, she had willingly surrendered more knowledge to him.
Before she could get in a huff and begin to scold herself some more, she met his gaze. β€œI would tell you, if you asked.” The way he offered it wasn't bait for their usual tantalizing banter, instead it seemed like raw honesty. She studied him. Stunned. Amazed. Confused. He began to withdraw his hand and body, and with it, his offer would inevitably go.
In a moment's decision, Evelyn grasped his hand tightly, halting him. β€œThen tell me about yours.” She looked between his eyes, urging him to continue this spree of the truth, riddle free. Yet her grip said it best. She had no intentions of letting him go without his own due explanation and he'd feel that if he went to pull away. But if he complied, it was nothing more than a pressing touch. He could always try to explain.
As if he might've needed more of a nudge, Evelyn spoke. β€œMaybe we don’t know what we want exactly. I don’t think many of us do to be fair, we’re still young and there’s a lot of trial and error and experience to come and shape us yet but… I’m not going to hold it against you.” What was showcased in the trials was perhaps a margin of present fear and desire, and while Sylas’s particularly was hard to bear, she wouldn’t hang it over his head, it wasn't a fate or future, nor could it really be classed as desire and fear set in stone. The god's magic buried deep to exploit them but it wasn't necessarily true or concrete. Or maybe she was downright helping to cushion the blow for herself.
Holding a dreadful knot in her stomach, sure their avenues would burn while looking him over, it was as if she'd lose him after he bared all with the trials, or if he shut down and refused to give her anything. So before she could think better of it, almost like she was entranced, a hand slowly came up to cup his neck, slipping behind to the nape of the neck and guiding him to her while leaning forward, placing her lips on his. She kissed him a little longer than the intended humble peck, but that's what he did to her: inject her with a drug crave-worthy, driving her for more and more. Evelyn drew away slowly, shifting her gaze from his mouth to his eyes. β€œI had to. I'm sorry,” she told him softly while she remained close. β€œPlease, go on.” She let her hands fall to her lap, ready as she could be to listen.
Liam had been extremely tired, but that didn't mean he could sleep. From the moment his head hit the bed until this moment, he tossed and turned and fought the urge to open his eyes. He wasn't sure that he was actually asleep at all, to be honest. His body felt heavy, as did his eyes, but the horror movie playing at the back of his eyelids felt like reality. It had been a reality not too long ago.
After about two hours of struggling to find true sleep, he woke up. He stared into the tall mirror as he sat there. He looked miserable. A hand rubbed at the shadow of stubble forming along his jawline, and he clenched his teeth in irritation. His eyes began to look red. When Sloane got here, she'd know instantly that he hadn't had a very good sleep at all. If he even slept at all.
He stared at himself for an unknown amount of time but eventually pulled himself out of bed. Everything was a hot mess from all the tossing and turning, including the sheets separating from the mattress at some point. He scratched the back of his neck and wondered if it was safe to share a bed with anyone at this point. He fixed what he could, but that one stupid corner popped off. It always popped off. He just threw the covers over everything haphazardly, fixed the pillows, and moved to the shower.
A shower would definitely wake him up.
... But then he just stood under the hot water with his forehead pressed against the shower wall. His eyes were closed. Eyelids heavy. The whole bathroom steamed within minutes, the water searing hot but painless against his skin. Hell was more painful than this.
After a brisk cleaning, he shaved his face. He would have knicked himself several times if he didn't have such durable skin. He scoffed. Why bother? It'd grow back in like - five minutes. He threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then collapsed facefirst on his bed. Again.
He strongly felt that he wouldn't get any real sleep anytime soon. An Ares kid without rest was not going to be good for anyone.
Aafter leaving Rae and Blair to torture Duke, Cherise decided to check and see where Daniel might have gone. She thought she had seen him wander off into the woods, but that wasn't saying much. The forestry here was massive, and so many Demigods were doing things only they could do.
"You're archery skills are amazing, Cherise. That's definitely something I wouldn't mind learning myself. So what do you want to do now? Want to find Daniel?" The woman's head was blank, and Penny's words didn't reach her ears as quickly as they were spoken. She blinked and looked over at the redhead, "I thought that, actually. Not sure where he went. You can tag along if you want."
Cherise tucked her hands into her pockets and walked... and walked... and walked. There were various demigods out and about. She caught Sloane going to what she assumed was her own cabin. There was an unusual sight with her - a puppy. Of course, Rocco was not really a hidden thing. It was just that Liam walked him at the buttcrack of dawn, so no one has really ever seen the little pup unless they were up that early.
A few more steps and there was Nicholas - his pace was casual, and she raised her hand as if to begin to say "hello" and wave only for his attention to swiftly shift elsewhere. He turned quickly before it was halfway up. She sighed, put the hand back into her pocket, and continued.
For a social butterfly like Cherise, being at Camp Athens was significantly harder than she thought it would be. There seemed to be two types of people here - buttheads and... people that she couldn't put her finger on. Enigmas. Like the two that were together, Sylas and Evelyn, in a little spot in the woods. She barely gave them much attention because something told her it wasn't a good idea. Maybe even that Sylas wasn't a good idea at all. Then she laughed at that thought as she pressed forward. He had been so gentle with her. Yet...
His trials. It made no sense.
Enough about that. Enough dwelling about her duel with Sylas. As far as she was concerned, he didn't hurt her, which was probably a mercy.
It was around this time that she almost bumped right into Iliana. She stopped short of doing so and smiled brightly, "I guess everyone is spending time out here today." Then she looked the girl over and just passed her shoulders as if expecting someone else, "Where are Ethan and Heath?" Not that she meant Iliana had to have guardians all day, only that it was unusual for them not to be around.
Everyone seemed to snicker at him or roll their eyes, the weak new fool of the grounds. The rest of it all blurred together. There was duel after duel and everyone else seemed to put up a fight or at least give a show with their weaponry skills, water, fire, allurance. What he gave was the first impression of every guy’s nightmare.
Proving harder to miss was the naked girl but even then, Lochlan’s eyes didn’t light up as they usually would, no scanning head to toe, no smirk formed on his face but somewhere in him he appreciated her body and her unabashed attitude to match it. He’d pocket the red head for later. For now…bigger fish to fry and all that or at least make sense of this whole new world he stepped into. But perhaps he should look at it as advantageous. The only one that had a clue of his power was the small doe-eyed girl and while he didn’t know what the others possessed exactly either, he had an idea now and a super smart sister to confer with if needed.
The arena had been near vacated by the time he snapped out of his own thoughts. He gave a quick glance around and left it behind him, choosing to roam and think more. Lochlan typically wasn't one to stew and waste time thinking so much, especially off path, but this environment called for more precautious measures. A bit more tact while prowling. Although Sloane....she was a massive speed bump. He hadn't seen her for years, and to see her here of all places and the way it just ended so coldly. Almost as if his thoughts spawned her, she came into existence yet again, appearing in the clearing in front of the main hall as he did from another direction. Or his own blind wandering mind and feet took him there at one hell of a time. But she didn't even come from the path...why would she, that'd be too easy of her. Lochlan sighed and headed for her because liked or not, he was getting closure about one of the many mysteries of this damn place and his life that were all hitting at once. Lochlan buried his hands in his pockets to seem more at ease, less like he was beelining her and appear less threatening, because he could blow up about the absolute mind fuck of a breakup and what the hell she was doing here.
"Sloane, I need to speak with you." He called. As he got closer, he realized the small pooch hanging around her. His brows pinched together slightly not taking the Astor siblings for pet people. Sloane could be but Sylas wasn't going to invest in or care for anything that didn't benefit himself. Maybe a punching bag. He shook it off and lifted his eyes back to her and stopped a couple feet away. Lochlan actually lagged standing before her with so many confused thoughts and feelings racing to be heard. Did he bother with civility and asking how she's been, what's with the dog, or go for the root of the problem. "What happened? I mean with us, and you. You never told me you were a god. You just left me and decided to hate me and vanish off the face of the earth. And now you're here." Lochlan and his rattled brain jumped between Sloane related issues. That she left him like they were nothing and she was a demigod. Lochlan wasn't delirious, he was sure they fell for each other genuinely and to leave like that and not tell him of her blood was uncharacteristically cruel. So yeah he was frazzled and confused to see her again in these circumstances. "I tried to reach out to you. You could've called or wrote or...send a pigeon or something at least." Lochlan threw his hands out in exasperation. That's all there really was to say, that he deserved better and he wanted to know why.
