h e i g h t x // x5'11"

w e i g h t x // x163 lbs

h a i r x // xbrown short and thick hair.

e y e s x // xhe classes them as a dark blue, and not like the deep blue sea, more like an onyx blue crossover, and some class that combination as green. But details...details...

o d d i t i e s x // xhe has a mean looking scar on his back and front where the spear went through his chest. Keith doesn't know how obtained it, he presumes some childhood accident. Keith also wears glasses.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xKeith isn't particularly intimidating or gods gift to women but he can be endearing in that dorky/dweeby way, and he does have a firm athletic build. He's not exactly bulky like some other gym junkies, but he's happy being him. Comfortable as he can be in his own skin anyway.
Daniel owns his skin on the other hand and is usually accompanied by some playful grin or smirk.

P O W E R S

w i t c h c r a f tx // x Witchcraft covers a great variety of magic and it is all ready for disposal at Daniel's fingertips. He excels in illusion casts.
c o n j u r a t i o n x // x Daniel can get a little inventive and crafty with this gift, mostly conjuring up horror icons and wicked beasties.
r e a l i t yxm a n i p u l a t i o n // x Daniel has never enjoyed a power or made more use of a power then sucking someone into a "vivid illusion."
m e d i u mx // x The dead mustn't like him because while he is supposed to possess such an ability to see dead people, he can't.

P R O F I C I E N C I E S

c h a r i s m a t i c x // x He doesn't know how he does it but he has a certain charm and energy that can attract people towards him or talk them into an essentially bad idea. If it's not via charisma, it's through cunning.
d a n c i n g x // x Music does amazing things to his soul and thankfully he is gifted in rhythm and movement and is often looking to get others off the wall and moving too.
c u n n i n g x // x Daniel's cunning is certainly undersold and the worse mistake people can make is not thinking it dangerous.

W E A K N E S S E S

e x e r t i o n x // x Between dark spells and casts, and casts that require a lot of focus and power, Daniel tries them anyway and may experience a severe drain in energy or karma.
p l a y f u l x // x It's not that he can't grasp severity of situations, it's that he wants to lighten to mood, and keep those grey clouds away from him if he can. Thus, more often than not, Daniel can be perceived as 'too playful.'
i n d u l g e n tx // x He doesn't see it as a weakness, more entertaining and leading a luxurious life. To others however, he may appear selfish and immature which apparently is a bit of a people repellent.

F E A R S

u n d e r a c h i e v e r x // x A key reason to Daniel attending camp is so he can advance on his powers and help amplify himself so he can assure when he goes down, it's in a blaze of glory. He wants to leave his mark at his milestones. But there is a fear within that presses he may die without much to show for in his lifetime.
c h a n g e x // x Daniel doesn't mind a little spicing up of the life, however, inner change, something that alters his identity or somebody that wants him to, can't be done. He likes who he is and he doesn't want to change.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
xxxxxxxx Playful xx Observant xx Sly xx Charismatic x

Daniel likes to think of himself as a fun, perky and humorous individual that looks on the short side of life. Even for a demigod that's attending camp and has a knack for some chaos and has probably made it to some mortals hunting list too, he prefers to make the history books going down as himself. Accompanying his tomb and the book would be his rather crude sense of humor, naturally mischievous/guilty and smug look and passion and enthusiasm for every action he executed. Life is much too short to live with regret and spend time standing against the wall. He understands that much more thoroughly now more than ever.

Being an adventurous soul and young boy at heart, Daniel has a pet peeve for dull days and often chooses to spice them up with a little illusion or conjuration. He tries not to push buttons excessively, and usually his attentive eye pays attention to when the line is being drawn and how sensitive his audience is. If he wants to cause some mischief and let it go off without a hitch and insulting anybody, he has to take note of his surroundings, the people and select his words like a devil dealer. Other times however, he just doesn’t care preferring the fun and thrill of the event. His mischievous self has the gift of wit, cunning, slyness and improvisation that has a way of allowing him to both escape trouble, and keep him seeking trouble so he can appease the side that enjoys more entertaining days. Plus, he sees his pesky powers as a service and helpful since any real enemy isn’t going to hold back.

In a lot of ways, Daniel could be considered an overgrown bored child with powers that shouldn't be in his hands, but make no mistake, his games will seem like child's play compared to when things get personal. If anyone accuses him of being bark over bite or takes him and his siblings as less important or significant or hurts them, he will be quick to commence plotting and correct that error in judgement, and he has a dangerously creative mind. Confidence in himself and powers has never been an area of hesitance.

For the upper hand on the playing field, Daniel can sometimes dumb down himself. Being underestimated does work out to be an advantage in the end game after all. However, if he's acting skills are called out; he feels no need to deny it though a lie lays on the tip of his tongue. Despite him seeing all trickster and “life is a game” motto, he does have an approachable side that adores his family unconditionally and can withhold a tame conversation that is open to almost anybody. But of course, him being him, he prefers the more eccentric and exciting topics.

xxxxxxxx Clever xx Reserved xx Kind xx Awkward x

Keith is a clever individual able to make quick work of puzzles and problems that need solving, mostly theoretical problems, not physical and confrontational. He doesn't like or do confrontation, his demeanor, his personality - none of it is meant to go toe to toe with someone. And to be honest, Keith is used to getting knocked around and bullied whereby his words are his only weapons to wield. More often than not though, they get him into more trouble. But he isn't afraid because he knows he has brains over their brawns and insecure pety minds.

Unsurprisingly, Keith doesn't have a great deal many friends. He supposes it's because he's too guarded, expecting the ugly in people and when somebody is kind to him, he gets socially awkward and doesn't really know how to respond and keep conversation flowing. The lack of experience to socializing and living has just kind of expanded to one mess of a man and it can make him seem pretentious when he's short with people or dismissive of an offer. It's not the real case as Keith is a major fan of treating others as you would like to be treated, but it's a common misconception that he's a bit of a snob.

Perhaps the largest barrier is that a large part of him struggles to relate to his peers entirely because he doesn't really know what he likes or if there's a clique or group or belonging for him and truthfully, it's like he doesn't even know himself some days. Something just feels off at his core. That's also why he keeps to his own company.

H I S T O R Y

Daniel is older brother to a mortal sister Delilah and another demigod he only met last year, Andromeda. Thankfully, Daniel was always a strapping young man that was quick on his toes so he felt and feels relatively equipped to handle young women with different personalities and hormones. Having Zane as a father, he always encouraged a light environment and an appreciation for wit and jokes in good taste. But also embedded Daniel with morals and values, hence he has a super soft spot for his sisters and a somewhat in tact moral compass.

Mainly Daniel grew up treating life as his playing field and people and his powers were a source of entertainment. Each day, he'd push the boundaries just a little bit further. This got him into a lot of trouble and made him feared among peers. There was no way folks believed in magic, but they did find Daniel as the common thread to the extraordinary. Through the commotion of powers, Zane persisted on sticking with him and keeping Daniel balanced. This in turn developed to a deep respect making Daniel not a total brat growing up.

Then along his introduction to camp.

Hecate's magic brought Daniel back to life, but not as his upbeat, fun loving self. When she revived him, she filled him with false memories and therefore a new identity to protect him from the trauma of his death. And so Keith Madden was born with a constant hole in his heart, like a piece of him is missing. The recollection of the war is hard to recall. He knows he was there last year, and there was a war but it has no meaning, no image and his life is full of gaps.

xxxxxPoseidon spent a majority of the trials in a stoic and speculative silence. He watched and waited. Not only did he observe the varying nightmares, fears and flashbacks laid out before him, but he also studied the crowd, their reactions and interactions. He wasn't as kind of a God as his brother pretended to be, but he wasn't an evil man. There was a lesson that needed to be learned and he took it upon himself to teach it. There was no room for softness with the demigods. They were placated far too long and that was at an end.

xxxxxMost of the demigods heeded his warning. A majority of the trials passed with little to no more outbursts and relative silence beyond the whispers amongst companions. While they behaved so did he. There was no need to instill more anger or fear into unless necessary, at least for the time being. And he didn't say a word for a long while until the trials hit a couple hitches towards the end. First, Andromeda Bolton didn't seem to come out of the illusion like the others. Under other circumstances he would have been content to let her dig at the dirt until she snapped out of it, but he had things to do and a realm he had been away from for too long. So instead, he had Hecate address her daughter so they could proceed.

xxxxxThen it was time for the final trial. Liam. Not necessarily the singular cause for Poseidon's arrival at the camp but a strong motivator. He kept his word and made the boy wait and watch as everyone else suffered through their illusions. And to no surprise, his trial only seemed to amplify the man's anger and rage. It painted him in a worse light, if possible. Then it ended, but the Gods could not regain their control fast enough.

xxxxx"I'm going to kill someone." Poseidon felt his rage and was on the move before the son of Ares charged. Him and the other Gods had the demigod restrained before he could do any harm.

xxxxx"Unfortunately, due to the danger that Liam presents, he will not be immediately returning to camp. We have a special place for animals like him." He motioned his hand towards Ares and Apollo who moved to either side of Liam, taking hold of his arms. "Liam O'Connor will be taken to Tartarus for a much needed attitude adjustment. He will return to camp once I believe he is no longer a danger to the rest of you."

xxxxxWith a nod of his head, the Gods that had joined Poseidon disappeared, taking Liam along with them. Poseidon remained behind to address the rest of them one final time. "I hope this was a lesson to you all. While fights are inevitable, murder is not. The death of Jennova Ambers and the near deaths of Sylas Astor and Andromeda Bolton will not stand. Tomorrow I will be sending my son to join you. With his arrival you shall recommence training. He will be my eyes and ears at camp. So know that just because I may not see it, doesn't mean I will not hear about it."

xxxxxPoseidon took one final look at all of the campers, even meeting their gaze if they managed to look up towards him. "Don't make me come back here again. I promise, I will not be so forgiving." He ran his hand back through his hair before slamming his trident down on the ground. "You're dismissed." With that, he disappeared leaving the demigods in the arena with one another in silence, absent the Gods.

The daughter of Poseidon was none too happy about anything that transpired. As her gaze held the trials with scrutinizing interest, she had made note of several things. There were certainly many points of weakness to be exploited in the Camp. If the god of the Sea thought that he would be making the Demigods come out of this with some new way of thinking, then he'd be wrong. Already, as her attention slipped side-eye toward Sylas, it was as though she could feel the wheels turning in his brain. They'd only had a brief encounter, but they both had some screwy cogs in their machines, so to speak.

One by one, the Demigods went in and then came out in a myriad of unstable emotions. These trials had made none of them a better man or woman, but worse off than they had been before. Individuals, friends, lovers - the group as a whole - felt like a piece of glass with webbed cracks just waiting to shatter at even the tiniest amount of pressure. This was probably the worst thing that could have been done to a group of young adults already bursting at the seams as they come to grips with themselves and their godly other halves.

Liam's power, as it coursed through the arena only a half a heartbeat after he was free from his own trial, was nauseating. She felt all that rage at the pit of her stomach, and it churned and churned until she was just about to vomit. Just when that point came, his power was immediately sapped and he was restrained, relieving the others from continuous exposure to his beastly fury. Trinity, his half-sister, had nearly lept across the entire space in tandem with Sloane's desperate shouting.

As all was said and done, she watched as everyone began to trickle out of the arena. People were broken. Secrets were exposed, memories lay bare when they were supposed to be held in secret by their host, and relationships lay in tatters on the arena floor - obliterated quicker than they had started.

Liv's blood boiled at the thought that he brother would end up being here. Of course, Poseidon couldn't wait to rub his daddy's boy in her face. She had met Nick briefly, and they were very different Demigods despite the fact that they came from the same bloodline. He was known as the Earth Shaker; his abilities more in line with the aggressive side of Poseidon. Yet, after a promise fulfilled - Liam going to Tartarus - Liv didn't feel it was her place to protest right now.

As she sat there in an arena devoid of gods and sprinkled with a light helping of a few leftover Demigods, she wondered what it would mean for her with the presence of her brother. Would people like him more? Was he better trained? Was she going to live under his shadow as the little sister? That all made her gut knot.

She stood up after a while and walked down the row. In the process, Liv slipped past Wes and Theo, only to catch the tail end of their little heart-to-heart. If you ask her, it was probably one-sided. While she didn't know Wes all that well, as she was best friends with no one in Camp Athens, the relationship of Wes and Trinity - to outside observers such as herself - seemed to tread on thin ice. There was the Aphrodite charm that couldn't be reeled in coupled with that fierce Ares attitude. And if you hadn't heard by now, the Ares children have a problem with relationships.

"Read the room, man," she practically snarled as she slipped by. Wes didn't ask her to step in and help him out, and she certainly wasn't going to stick around, but she felt like it was only common sense not to rub salt in someone's obviously gaping wound. As quickly as her words slipped through the thicket of tension building up between Wes and Theo, she was disappearing just as fast.

Liv did what she does best; stomped down the path to her cabin, slammed the door shut, and fall flat on her bed. She screamed in her pillow, gripping it tightly until her pale knuckles were whitening. She did this whole dramatic thing where she kicked at the mattress and screamed some more; irritated by the notion that Nicholas was on his way.

None of this was real, and Rae knew that. If she took emotion out of it, which she often did, she could look at the situation with a coldly logical eye and see the trials for what they were - a really bad scare tactic. After she straightened herself in her seat, wiped and shrugged away the physical burdens of her emotions, she was able to fall into her typical calm, cool, and collected demeanor.

None of this was real. The memories were certainly not fake, but even memories were prone to the error of the human brain as the finer details get pruned more and more the deeper they are stored. As time passes by, even memories become inaccurate and unreliable. Many Demigods had faced 'what-if' scenarios devoid of evidence that such things would only happen. The only foundations those trials had to stand on were the weaknesses of human emotion and insecurity; the fear of treading unknown territory as people that deem themselves unlovable enter the foreign realm of being genuinely cared for.

She finally stood up, adjusted her top, and dug her hands into the pockets of her sweats. When she got to Cherise (who, by this time, had made her own way toward Daniel) she smiled, "A great end to this day would be to Netflix and chill." She offered this suggestion rather than bring up the trials because it made little sense to her to be worried about things that weren't even real or presently transpiring. On that same note, she's opening herself up to accepting that the three of them could get along together, and that she's not worried about the potential for a Cherise and Daniel romance.

"I think that actually sounds great," Cherise chimed, a sense of relief washing over her. There are many times when Rae's social awkwardness could really make a situation a thousand times worse, but in times like these, she's lowkey thankful that Rae was Rae - able to compartmentalize really well.

Rae gave the pair of them two thumbs up accompanied by her very best wide-lipped smile, "Sounds great. I will let the two of you converse about - well, whatever it is that is on your minds." She started to walk away, and when she got to the last row and she was well on her way out of their sights, she turned around, cupped her mouth like holding up a megaphone, and yelled up at them, "None of it was real!" With that, she waved at the two of them, pivoted on her sneakers, and dipped out.

Cherise was left with Daniel, if he hadn't decided that the trials were too much for him and he needed to get away, anyway. With a bright smile she looked down at him, hands on her hips and head tilted, "So, we didn't get a super slow day but you know, it's not half bad. Some things were seen that can probably not be unseen, but like Rae said - most of it isn't grounded in reality. We don't have to worry about these things."

She offered him a small hand, "You do know that I am not giving you much of a choice to come with me to Rae's place, right?" That amiable smile turned into a goofy little grin, "After all, if you're going to hang around me, you're going to have to deal with her at some point."

She nodded toward the exit and attempted to drag him along to Rae's cabin. If he was truly adamant about not tagging along, she'd leave him be. Otherwise, it's time to hang out with friends and enjoy whatever was left of the day.

Moments slipped by as Rae wandered slowly toward her cabin. The air felt thick with Demigods broken beyond what could possibly be repaired, and even worse - with whatever tomorrow was bringing that loomed over their current thoughts like some ominous shadow.

On the way to her place she walked past Sylas, and something about him just made her want to give him some space. It could have been the brutality of his trial or even Sloane's. In at least two trials, Sylas was the common denominator, and that was always a bad sign. Still, she gave him an easy smile because - let's face it, he was dangerously cute.

But no. Compose yourself, she thought, and by the time she looked over her shoulder, he had disappeared from her line of sight.

Then there was Trinity, and the scene would have been comical if the whole reason behind the Ares woman's steps weren't so profoundly fucked up. Rae didn't know whose cabin the blonde had disappeared into, but she decided to mind her own business. She didn't like to poke bears.

Soon enough she was at her cabin, and she decided to leave her door open for others to come join her. Unlike when she had Pete here, her place was actually cleaned and furnished decently. While awaiting the others, if there would be others, she got to making some snacks and bumping some awfully loud angry music from a Spotify playlist called “Burn it all Down”. While she sliced, chopped, and stirred away, she shook it like it's hot in her kitchen - sometimes using a butter knife as a microphone for her less than stellar voice.

Sloane was normally a composed and well-organized individual, but whatever part of her that was slipped away and was replaced with the trials. Over and over they played in her head. Every so often she blinked her eyes hard as if trying to wake up for a terrible nightmare or to erase the images from her head. She didn't fold her clothes but shoved them in the bag, wrinkles being the last thing on her mind. What had she gotten herself into? Where would she go? The questions plagued her mind, but no answers surfaced.

The sweet little puppy let out a soft whine before leaning against her bent knees. Sloane never understood how animals were so empathetic. Perhaps it was because her father never let her and Sylas have pets. Probably a good thing. She could only imagine the torment her brother would unleash on a sweet innocent animal. She sighed softly, letting her hand fall to Rocco's head, softly stroking his ears. She wanted to cry. Sloane could feel it welling up inside and constricting in her chest.

She took a deep breath trying to suppress... all of it. Sloane shoved the last bit of her clothes into the large duffle. It was so haphazardly packed, that sleeves and tights dangled out the opening. In a haze, she still tried to close the bag closed. Every few inches the zipper got caught on another piece of closing. She'd adjust. Try again. Adjust. Until she got fed up and let out a frustrated groan. Gods she was close to her breaking point. She could feel it in the pit of her stomach. Every frustration or sad expression from Rocco made her want to curl up into a ball on the ground and succumb to all of it. She wanted... someone but had no one. Her father was absent, mother demanding. Sylas was a monster and Liam didn't seem all that different at the moment. That was it. She had no one to blame but herself for being anti-social, but she never thought there would be a moment where she needed so desperately.

With a deep breath, Sloane pushed off the ground and moved to her feet. I can do this, she told herself. She reached down and grabbed the bag. It was nearly as big as she was and seemed to all but swallow her up when she hung it on her shoulder. "It's ok, Rocco," she said as she scooped up the pup into her shaky arms. "I'll figure this out." She nodded her head, more to herself, in reassurance. All the while the dog didn't have a single clue. He was happy to be held and go on an adventure. His tail wagged and whenever his face was close enough to Sloane's he gave her a big wet lick on the cheek.

Sloane wrote a quick note and left it on the counter for Liam. I took Rocco with me so he wasn't alone. I'll return him when you're back. She didn't sign her name nor muddy up the message with the tornado that was her own emotions. With nothing else holding her back, she slowly stepped out of the cabin, closing the door behind her.

Every step felt like she was trudging deeper into quicksand. She had no direction and no plan. Were there even empty cabins at camp? How in the hell would she know if she found one? All questions that she didn't bother herself with until she actually began searching. There was Trinity, but they talk all of twice? And while the girl would have most likely helped her, she wasn't the warmest... Which was only backed up when she saw the angry blonde storm across camp on a mission. So, that was a no. The only other idea that came to mind was Wes. He seemed nice enough. But she could only imagine the wrath she would incur from Trinity if she stayed with him. Another no.

There weren't many options. Sloane stopped in her tracks for a moment to adjust the bag on her shoulder. "The main hall wouldn't be so bad, right?" she asked softly, looking down at Rocco. The pup's ears perked up as the faint sound of music caught his attention. Before she could register what it was, her feet were already carrying her in that direction.

Slowly, she approached a cabin with loud, angry music blasting and the front door wide open. Sloane's brows furrowed slightly as she looked around for anyone who might have answered. But there was no one. Then briefly, through a window, she saw a tuft of red hair bobbing and dancing around the kitchen. Rae. She barely knew that girl either, not enough to impose. Yet, her feet carried her up the porch. Her body and mind were at war. Sloane wasn't the type of person to ask anyone for help, let alone someone she spoke to once. But her leg autonomously led her forward.

She slowly ascended the stairs and came to a halt in the entranceway. With her free hand, Sloane knocked on the door. But the sound fell on deaf ears, disappearing under the sound of the loud music. She didn't like entering people's homes uninvited but somehow found the strength to take a step through the threshold. She crossed the cabin until she finally stopped at the edge of the kitchen. Sloane was fine, strong until Rae turned and met her gaze. Then it was like one of those moments when you could be strong until someone asked you what was wrong and then it all came bubbling out. The tears built in her eyes, threatening to overflow as she spoke. "...I had nowhere else to go." Her eyes practically begged. Sloane looked and sounded desperate.

Sure, Rae seemed to have the outward emotional appearance of a slab of cold stone, but she could certainly pick up on someone else's. That's why, when she looked up mid note with the butterknife-mic near her lips, she didn't bother asking if something was wrong. While Rae considered herself quite the genius, it didn't take one to know what was going through the other woman's head.

She pressed pause on the music and gave Sloane a bright and welcoming smile, "Mi casa es su casa," she chimed in a bold and familiar Rae fashion. The phrase rolled easily off her tongue, and she made a gesture with her hand, still holding the butterknife, to the small hallway. "Fortunately for you, this cabin seems to have been made for dos amigas. Why don't you go settle your things down, make yourself comfortable, wash your pretty face, and I'll have some snacks for us?" She paused briefly, tapping the butterknife to her chin lightly, "Or maybe some ice cream. I have a tub of mint chocolate chip that is bound to cheer even the saddest person in the world up."

Sloane hadn't realized she was holding her breath but finally exhaled when Rae said she could stay. To be honest, she had no clue what she would have done if the daughter of Artemis turned her down. She was thankful she didn't have to think about it. With a soft sigh, Sloane started toward the hall but stopped a few feet short of disappearing from view. "Is he ok too?" she asked, slightly lifting the pup in her arms. Rocco wagged his tail happily before yawning. "He's Liam's... I couldn't leave him there alone while he was... gone." Her voice trailed off slightly.

Rae looked down at the dog, and she could feel that it was one happy pup. If she had a heart, she might have felt more sorry like other people. Alas, she felt like the canine was lucky - lucky that it didn't know what was going on and that he had someone else to take care of him. Someone that Rae could tell took decent care of him. After all, she didn't need to bring Rocco with her. He wasn't Sloane's responsibility, but he's lucky to have her in Liam's place. "How'd you know I was more of an animal person? They are tons better than people." She gave Sloane a wink, a smile, and a light bout of laughter at that.

Rae was proud that she was able to not touch on the very obvious subject at hand right away. She didn't know anything about the Sloane, Sylas, and Liam triangle. Nothing. She knew that Sloane had followed Liam house to house just yesterday morning and that there must be some kind of connection, but other than what had been shown at the Trials, Rae hadn't a real clue. It was plausible to assume that there was a deep emotional connection to the brutish man, but love and romance were hardly something that she could fully comprehend. Especially if it's one of those love at first sight things, which could also be possible!

There was nothing that Rae could do about Liam or Sylas, but she could take the two men off of Sloane's mind for a little while. Speaking of the brunette, she shouted from the kitchen, "Oh! We may have other guests over! Possibly Cherise and Daniel. Who knows? I gave the invite at least."

Sloane found her way to the vacant room. She let out a defeated sigh as she dropped her bag onto the ground beside the bed. "This is ok, right?" she said softly, looking down at Rocco. The pup barked happily as he jumped from her arms down onto the pillows and began to explore the room. The day had been exhausting. She was just happy to be somewhere she felt... safe. No, she didn't know Rae well, if at all. But so far, she had been the only person who seemed to be genuinely nice to her without an ulterior motive. It was nice.

She dug through her messy bag, searching for a change of clothes. Sloane decided to take Rae's advice and get comfortable. She didn't really know Daniel or Cherise, but she was beyond trying to impress people for the day. She opted for a comfy pair of pajamas. Once she was changed, she went to the bathroom to clean up. It took her a few minutes to build up the courage to look in the mirror. Seeing her reflection staring back at her only seemed to make the weight of the whole situation sink in. She wanted to cry but she quickly washed her face and took some deep breaths. No. No more tears.

Once she managed to compose herself, Sloane headed back down the hall towards the kitchen. Rocco excitedly ran past her and started to spring around the cabin, sniffing everything and eating any food Rae dropped on the floor. He occasionally ducked in and out of the opened front door, but mostly danced around their feet. Sloane made her way to the opposite side of the counter and gave Rae a faint but genuine smile. "Is there anything I can help with?"

By this time Rae had a produced two spoons and a bucket of mint chocolate chip ice cream, "Actually, yes - you can help me finish this, and we can watch something raunchy like Game of Thrones before Cherise and Daniel come over. Seen it?" Without waiting for the other woman, she went to the living room, plopped herself down on the couch, popped open the ice cream lid, turned on the television, and dug in. Life was better when you had the ability to turn off your emotions.

"Only parts," Sloane replied. She hesitated for a moment, before following Rae over to the living room. She took a seat on the couch beside the red head, tucking her legs beneath her. She gave her best smile. It was still sad, but there were hints of relief in it as well. She wasn't a bite into the ice cream before Rocco scurried his way into her lap and curled into a ball. Several scopes in, Sloane broke the comfortable silence for just a moment. "Thank you." She didn't linger on it or wait for a response. She dug her spoon into the ice cream and brought it to her lips as she relaxed back into the couch.

---------------------------------------------------

Trinity was up next and hers seemed to feature an exclusive utopia for the child of Ares. Then the shitstorm revealed itself when Theo and Wes stepped out and went for each other. Trinity was...all things considered pretty patient with them. But when she pinned Theo by impaling him, he knew she was done. Wes was next and met a grimmer fate and Trinity grieved.

Iliana was called. The little thing almost escaped his attention but the spotlight was on her now for them all to see. He doubted that what showed itself was a particular fear play by play but rather what she had been through. But none of it really moved him in one way or the other. Nor did Theo's...even when it had a cameo of him being overwhelmed by the enemy.

Then finally Andy was called. He felt sick. Sicker still to find a part of him interested to see what, of all the things she had been through, would be her worse torment. She appeared to be in the Underworld...of course...it's where she was tortured, it didn't exactly host the best memories. And in the Underworld, Hades resided naturally and menacingly. Seeing himself tied next to Ajax however while Andy had a chance to choose made Mason scowl. Whatever presented itself...whatever her dilemma...Mason hated being compared to the son of Zeus. Especially from Andy's point of view. He didn't want to watch but at the same time, that's all he could do. He sucked in a breath and prepared to face the truth along with others. Gods this would be humiliating.

What came of the results was something entirely different. Andy apologized to Ajax and pulled the lever and his body suddenly dropped. Andy leapt into action, and she struggled to keep him up, easing the strain before hacking the rope he was tied to. Mason didn't feel joy or pride, only guilt at how much she had changed to save him over Ajax. Mason side glanced at fellow demigods and how they'd read the situation, barely able to bring his eyes back on the scene. Yet he did, watching Andy dig at dirt and plea hopelessly.

When she came to, their eyes met. She was the first to look away and retreat towards the exit. Mason stared where his corpse had been. It was too surreal. Did she know what she was doing and really pick him over Ajax? He didn't have too much time to unpack it because Liam was called. Really what showed was nothing he didn't already know. Dude was a ball of raging testosterone and douchery only, Mason had really undersold it for the big guy.

Anyway, he didn't much care that Liam went for the hair model unbiasedly. He didn't much care or sympathize with anyone's trial beyond his own and whatever he saw in Andy's. He should have been glad or relieved at least witnessing Andy's but...he couldn't because...it made them both each other's weakness and meant...they cared a lot more than words could ever cover.

By then the arena was half empty. It was unlike Mason to be lost in thought. He supposed some congratulations was due to the gods. They had broken their own demi-beings.

He headed to his cabin and thankfully everyone had their own shit to deal with meaning he'd be left alone. He'd wager it was going to be a quiet and long remainder of the day. But that suited him. Everyone isolating in their own little area was like a dream. Although as he lifted his eyes he saw Andy sitting at his steps. He sighed out a little under his breath.

"Come on then." Mason unlocked the door and pushed it open before taking Andy’s arm and pulling her along with him. Nothing too forceful just a little guidance. Usually, one would offer the traumatized a blanket or nice warm drink but Mason was a minimalist and looking at her now he could only think what the hell he saw. "Did you...did you mean to pull that lever?" He wasn't rubbing salt on the wound, only getting his head straight about what he thought he saw. Mason fell and died anyway but Andy's choice was to save him.

Before he knew it, he pulled her into a hug for once. Whatever she chose, it had to be hell for her and she clearly cared for him. And Mason cared for her. Without Andy, Mason would probably bury himself in the Underworld and morph into a Hades junior. She really tethered him to his humanity. He turned his head towards hers and kissed her head unabashedly. "You can stay here as long as you want." And longer still, but he didn't say that. And deeper down, he wanted her to stay. For tonight at least.

ImageDaniel clucked his tongue. After that, absolute shitshow, that's all he could conjure. What a bunch of madness. Still, he smiled to Cherise before Rae joined them with some surprisingly wise words or a good recommendation at least. After some brief moments, Daniel opened his mouth to speak before the red head's words shouted down to them. "None of it was real!"

He knew. They knew that. But...there was a big but floating around that he didn't take great assurance in. Maybe because his was a little too close to home. Maybe because one of his greatest fears were shown to all of camp and kinda made him look mega shallow and would cause further misunderstanding than knowing him and a person's death should be...sacred? Somewhat private and not advertised. However, there was no denying Rae's logic. It was better to be in the present with a certain marvellous brunette standing over him laying down some future plans for the night. Definitely not asking.

Daniel smiled and took her hand and played puppy in love, following Cherise's lead. "I think I'm quickly learning what I signed up for," he confessed.

As they walked he was oddly happy. A misplaced mood given the recent happenings but he truly felt content to be walking hand in hand with the Daughter of Apollo. He'd squeeze and unsqueeze her hand, not because of anxiety or the sort, but simply because he could. And yeah they dawdled and he had nothing witty or charming or anything to say at all but, it wasn't an awkward silence. At least, he didn't feel it was. It just felt good to be out of that arena and oppressive atmosphere and see the world outside of hellish illusions again. "You know, I'm not sure why or how, but I expected it to be post-apocalyptic coming out of the arena. All burned up and full of debris. But it's good to see green again."

A boot through the open threshold and Daniel's nostrils were greeted by the scent of food. He didn't really expect Rae to be the hostiest hostess. Unless the girl had a mighty appetite and stress eating was a totally valid thing. The only sound of activity was the tv making Daniel turn to see two girls and one pooch on the couch with a tub of ice cream. Being concerned about Cherise's BFFL seemed lesser because honestly, what the hell did he say to Sloane? Glad to see your puppy isn't bleeding slaughtered? His gaze drifted back to Cherise to make the call and lead the charge. Whether they retreat and give the girls their time and space or shift the mood, join their binge watching, rule it as a girl's night, which he wouldn't take to heart. "Should I..." he gestured out the open door, speaking lowly. Honestly, he couldn't tell if the girls were awake or not, and even then, movie manners. "There will be plenty of opportunities for you to drag me over another day." It might have sounded a lot like an out, and usually Daniel was all about company and intruding. But girls needed to do their flock and hen things and stick together. Besides, Daniel knew when the ice cream was out things were getting real.

To be fair, Cherise was also not in the mood for anything dour. As she stood on the porch with Daniel and looked into Rae's cabin, she felt like it wouldn't be a great place for her. With Sloane being there, and after all that had transpired during the trials, it seemed that she'd also be out of place - not just Daniel.

With a bright and wide smile, as per usual, she spun around to face her companion and chimed, "On second thought, I am not sure that I feel much like a girly gossip." The brunette's head tilted from side to side as her thoughts raced. What to do? Then it hit her, "My cabin? Of course, you'll have to sleep on the couch." Since she and Rae arrived at the same time, their cabins were close to each other. Daniel and Cherise wouldn't have very far to walk at all.

While it seemed as though she was giving the guy a choice in where he would stay for the night, she kicked into a playful competitive mode. After biting her bottom lip and raising both of her brows, she pulled her hand out of his and started to walk backward. "Last one to my place is a sore loser!" Of course, she already gave herself a headstart.

She slowed down at the porch - whether she was first or not, it didn't matter at all. After she opened the door and the both of them slipped inside, she made quick work of setting a place for him to sleep. A few pillows and a blanket were tossed at him. It wasn't that she didn't want to sleep in the same bed as him, it was just that she's not that sort of girl. As tempting as it is. It also didn't feel like a good time.

A lot of things weren't feeling right tonight. At the very least, she could smile and put a little brightness at the end of a long dreary day. Once he had everything all settled, she rolled onto the tips of her toes, plopped an innocent kiss on his right cheek, smiled stupidly, and then fled to her room. She did not take a shower. She did not change. She just fell onto her bed with her eyes closed and already snoring. It was that kind of day.

* * *

Cherise tended to wake up a lot earlier than others. She's a... before the sun rises kind of gal. After her eyes opened she took a few moments to stretch out and greet the early day. She crawled out of her bed and dragged her feet to the closet so that she could pull out this morning's workout clothes. Every movement made was quiet and slow because she had a guest over, and it's unlikely that he was also awake. Not this early. Was the sun even starting to come out? No.

By the time she was ready to go the day was breaking. A quick stop is made in the kitchen area to jot down a note for Daniel when he woke. Out for a morning jog! I'll probably see you are breakfast. xoxo. Then she was out the door.

The air was nice and crisp; a cool early morning that was just shy of being warm. She stretched a little more on her porch and did some movements that would warm her body up, then she was off at a steady pace. She preferred the path that was already paved as it would cause her the least errs in step. There was nothing fun about tripping over roots, which she already has in this place.

A few Demigods were passed - Liam was one of them. He didn't look like someone that wanted to talk, and she really didn't want to poke a bear. She watched him slink off into his cabin and continued about her way. There was Sylas, and then shortly thereafter, Liv and some new face. It looked like they weren't on friendly terms, but the daughter of Poseidon seemed to have a lot of issues to work out.

Time passed by, as Cherise could probably run for days if given the opportunity. She was soon at the cliff that overlooked the beach, and a certain red-heads hair glinted in the bright sunlight. It wasn't even tanning time yet, but Rae didn't tan. It was far more likely that she was trying to get some peace and quiet, so Cherise wouldn't bother her. Not this time. They'd talk soon, but only when Rae was ready.

Just as she started to pivot, a man came out of the water. Had he been there the whole time? Was this the son of Poseidon? Not that it mattered. When he sat down next to Rae, Cherise thought that she must have been glad for it. She couldn't help but laugh, thinking that a man was something that Rae was probably wishing at the stars for. That would start her day off well.

With her friend in good hands (hopefully), she decided that it was that time for the main hall. Breakfast. Coffee. Gods know she needed some caffeine right about now. She half-hoped that Daniel would be around so she wouldn't have to randomly sit by someone else, but the other part thought that he deserved some extra sleep. After the brief jog to the chow hall, she paused at the entrance to assess the occupants. Evelyn slipped past her, in which Cherise would move aside, and there were several others inside. None that would interest her. One or two that make her a little on the uncertain side.

As she got the food she noted a lonely Mason. She probably shouldn't approach him, but then - would it be wrong to? She didn't know what the right answer was. With faux confidence, she approached him but keep the conversation rather light so that he could have an out if he needed it. It was also short, and with her intonation, sounded like she didn't intend to stick around for too long. "How are Andy's injuries?"

She'd have said good morning, but Mason didn't give off the small-talk vibe.

Daniel sat up, squinting all through the cabin. It wasn't his glorious cabin but Cherise's. That's right. Without sign of life though.

He shuffled around the cabin although he could guess by how dead quiet it was, she wasn't present. Confirming the thought process was a little note left for him bringing a smile to his lips. She was adorable even on paper. But he should probably blush about it some other time and tend to the day. Get back into his old skin and habits.

Daniel got dressed and roamed the grounds aimlessly looking for a playmate or somebody to force his illusions and tricks on. And then, floating through the air was music to his ears. Literal music. If that was Cherise's sing song voice and soul then she might just have to multi-task when Daniel smothered her in praise and affection. It didn't take much more convincing to alter his course and bee-line towards the training grounds. As he neared, the alluring music seized and disappointment grasped him and hurried his steps.

He saw a glimpse of movement in the hut, confusion and curiosity winning over. When he approached, he was met by Theo's back, deep in thought with chess-like pieces of camp. Daniel doubted the son of Artemis was in state for humming as he played out battle strategies. Still, Daniel cleared his throat to officially announce his presence if the wolf in him didn't already.
"Why Theo, I didn't know you could carry a tune so well." He cracked a grin and stepped inside, patting Theo's back once and looked at the pieces he had rearranged. To Daniel, that's all it was, little pieces randomly placed. He knew what it was meant to stand for and stuff, but when did war and battles ever work out as planned.

"Have you ate?" Daniel pulled lightly on Theo's shoulder, trying to prompt him out of the planning and anticipating state. It wasn't doing the guy any favors. Whether Theo followed his lead or not, Daniel left the hut and spotted Heath and a girl talking, guitar nearby. Now that made more sense.

They were a bit of a distance that Daniel couldn't make out her full features but she was...wow. Not Cherise kind of wow but...a wow nonetheless. "Theo. Come check this out." He wouldn't blame Theo if he thought this was some lame stunt. History said Daniel wasn't the most mature but this time all that was around the corner was a beautiful woman. And Heath. And yeah they looked to be in somewhat of a serious conversation but groups and meeting new people were an awesome distraction. Just what his brother in distress needed.

In one of the those rare moments, Nelly was caught off guard. One minute she was talking to the new camper, at least to her knowledge, and next thing she knew Julia was saying bye to her. What just happened? She had been nice to the girl and tried to be helpful. As she continue to eat, she pondered over it and was having a hard time coming up with something. Best not to dwell on it for now because she was only going to give herself a headache. At least Julia wasn't rude to her like Liv and Sylas, but then again she couldn't blame those two considering yesterday. Speaking of which, Nelly noticed how Liv left Sylas. No chance she was going to try and interact with him again. Nelly knew she wasn't the smartest person here, but she knew when not to push too far. She looked and saw that Cherise was eating with Mason. Mason was someone who always looked like he didn't want to be bothered, plus Cherise looked serious with whatever she was talking about. Wes was here by himself. Wasn't Ethan with him? Heath was definitely gone. Finishing her meal, instead of talking with Wes, Nelly figured she ought to explore the camp more while taking pictures. She still hadn't seen the whole camp yet. Decision made, Nelly got up, took her dirty dishes to the back and left.

Returning to her cabin, she grabbed her camera and headed out again. After walking for a bit she found herself near some cabins when she saw two people with suitcases walking about. Curiosity peaked, Nelly came closer. The first thing she noticed was the amount of luggage one of them had and it seamed to belong to the male since he was carrying it. Wow, did the man bring everything but the kitchen sink with him? She couldn't hide the surprise on her face before finally coming close enough to speak to the pair. Shaking her head, she put on a smile.

"Good morning, do you need any help? My name is Penelope, but I prefer Nelly. I take it you two are demigods? I am Hermes' daughter."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iliana had inadvertently fallen asleep in the tree she was in. So when Duke called out to her, she woke up so quickly, that she nearly fell out of the tree. But thankfully she had been laying on a thick branch and grabbed a hold of it instinctively. Looking down, she saw Duke just as he was finishing up his words. Her eyes widen a bit in surprise to see him. If Duke was back, then were Alex and Ajax back too? She contemplated going down the tree to ask Duke, but remembered she still couldn't talk. Plus she still didn't think it best to be around Duke either, no right now. Her heart was still pounding from the scare though. So she merely looked at Duke as he left her. She looked around and saw no sign of the Valises. What was she to do now? She wanted to avoid people, but she wanted to know if the Valises were back too. Then again, if Duke was able to find her, then that mean others could too. Plus, it might be best to just keep walking around. She didn't want to be caught off guard again.
Carefully, Iliana climbed down the tree and looked in the direction Duke went. Thinking it over, she wondered if it was best to go back to her cabin to grab her tablet. While she didn't want to talk to anyone, she also didn't want to come off as rude either by not being able to talk to them at all. At least with her tablet, she could tell others she wanted to be alone. The hard part was avoiding Heath, or even Ethan. So she would be very careful.
Iliana managed to luck out when she arrived back at her cabin. She hadn't seen either of her cabin mates, much to her relief. She was nervous entering the cabin. Looking around she saw that neither Heath nor Ethan were here. Deciding to be quick, Iliana grabbed her fully charged tablet and was out again within minutes. Walking outside, she headed for the area around the stables.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ethan, hands in his pockets, was roaming around aimlessly. He was really starting to get bored. He'd yet to find anyone to interact with. Maybe he ought to go back to his cabin and just work on his own designs more. He did miss college and since being here, he really wanted to get back to one of his favorite activities. He couldn't help but wonder when they would start training too since he knew that was a major reason his mother wanted him to come here. One ability he especially wanted to make use of more was his architectural alteration but he didn't know how that could be used training wise. When Ethan heard the word 'training' he thought of combat situations and Ethan was definitely not good at that. He didn't know the first thing about combat.

As he walked he neared some cabins and saw one of the cabin doors open. He would have passed by, but unintentionally heard someone say, “Now get out of my cabin.”

Hearing the anger and concerned of what may be happening, Ethan knocked on the wall of the cabin and called out, not wanting to enter the cabin without permission.

"Excuse me, is everything okay?'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
”Th-Thank, you. Fortunate might not be my word for it, but I can’t really go back to relaxing since I’d be worried about you, and Lia.”
That definitely got Heath's attention. He definitely didn't mention Iliana's nickname to this woman. The only people who knew her nickname were Ethan, his family and himself. Well, that wasn't entirely true. Heath knew Iliana had interacted with a few people online in the past before her abduction. Was this Veronica one of those people? It was unlikely, but Heath couldn't think of any other reason. He wouldn't think about it right now for there were more important things to focus on, but he would ask her about it at some point.
Veronica offered her services in helping him find Iliana though and in return he could help her about camp.
"Um, sure. I've only been at camp for several days though, so I don't know how much help I can be."
He already knew he wouldn't tell her about all the drama that happened, but he would warn her of a few people if she asked. Heath was never one to gossip so he wasn't about to start now. He did wonder what Veronica wanted to know for there really wasn't much to say about camp.
He listened to Veronica when she mentioned she was Aphrodite's daughter. That made perfect sense. It annoyed him that he was having a hard time controlling himself. He imagined it was frustrating for Veronica too. It then occurred to Heath that Veronica was Wesley's sister, or half-sibling at least. Heath did wonder just how many half siblings he had. He knew his mother was picky when it came to men. Not wanting to think about that at the moment though, Heath turned back to Veronica.
"Thank you for telling me that Veronica. It really helps to know it's not just all me. I'll try my best to not get tongue-tied around you. I also appreciate you wanting to help me find my sister. Hopefully one of the other campers has spotted her. Shall we?"
Heath turned from her and saw two figures nearby. Squinting, Heath saw that it was Theo and Daniel. Maybe they had seen Iliana.
Turning towards Veronica, Heath asked, "Do you mind if I ask those guys about Iliana? I think those two were here last year, so they probably can tell you more about the camp then me. If you don't want to interact with them, it's fine. I'll be right back."
Veronica shook her head, indicating she wasn't going to follow. Nodding in acknowledgement, Heath headed straight for the two men.
"Morning, you two know my adopted sister, Iliana right? Have either of you seen her? She went off on her own this morning and I want make sure she's okay."
He was pretty sure they remembered her since she was one of the last ones to have a trial yesterday. Then again, they might not have paid attention to her trial either.
By the gods, was Nicholas secretly blessed by Aphrodite before being tossed into Camp Athens? He must’ve been because every time he turns around, another woman is running right into him— or he into her, depending on how one reads the situation.
Here he was just walking; hands in his pockets, a hum in his throat, thoughts in his mind about all that had transpired thus far in his short time here. The redhead, for whom he is cursing himself for not catching the name of… the Aphrodite girl that he had unintentionally insulted. Possibly. He thought to himself, it couldn’t get any worse. Right?. Or better? He placed an index finger on his chin as he wondered, Was it good or bad luck? His head went from side to side, as though weighing the thoughts in his head. Well, beautiful women running into you doesn’t happen every day. Then again... he frowned, Would the Aphrodite child tell everyone he’s a perv later? He made a disgusted look at no one in particular and judging by his motions, he was having a conversation in his own head anyway. I’m not a perv… it wasn’t my fault.
It was right in the middle of starting to ponder the redhead when his instincts kicked in and an arm dashed down to brace the back of Blair. A hand folded gently around her waist, and he brought her up and helped her regain her balance. What seemed like half a heartbeat, her fingers grasped his biceps and they were intimately close. Not that he’d complain much.
His internal voice asked, Am I the child of Poseidon and Aphrodite?
Since the woman seemed to revel in the close proximity, he made no real motion to create additional space between them. "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry," she apologized, but the way she smiled and giggled said otherwise. She’s not that sorry, if she is at all. "The outdoors and I aren't really simpatico. But I wouldn't mind being on a first-name basis with you."
Simpatico. Simpatico. What did that mean? It must be French, he thought. No one said he was the sharpest tool in the shed, just one of the sturdiest. He just chuckled at that and pretended he understood, but she could probably tell that his brain wasn’t all that intellectual. Not that it appeared she was looking for some profound conversation anyway. Not with the way she’s flirting and hanging onto him without any shame at all.
"I'm Blair," she introduced herself, and he took her hand and gave it a firm but still semi-gentle shake. She was a woman, after all. He was ungodly strong and had to mind himself.
"Nicholas, but you can just call me Nick," he responded as he finally stepped back. It just occurred to him that he should, at the very least, give the other demigods a warning before just summoning them to train out of the blue. That’d be starting out on the wrong foot with a lot of the others, and he may already end up in hot water with the guys depending on who all these hot women belonged to. They just had to belong to someone.
Nick wanted to stay and flirt a little, but he also had a job to do in Camp Athens. He looked at her and tilted his head in thought. You know what? He could do both. Ah, but typically he wasn’t the quickie sort of guy, even though she was certainly tempting. So tempting.
"Coming, Blair?" he inquired as he began to walk backward. He eventually turned around to head for the main office of the Camp, which was just past the chow hall. A short walk.
Blair quirked a brow at his offer. Well that didn’t take long. Perhaps it was she that was the daughter of Aphrodite. Then again, it was never women who struggled to find someone to warm their bed. Hell, what better way to christen camp than to have a little fun with Fabio. Sure, he didn’t seem like the smartest guy out there, but she wasn’t flirting with him for his brains. Dumb boys were always the easiest to get what she wanted from anyway. So, she said nothing but followed after him, wherever he led her.
They arrived at their destination; a small office that was empty save for the P.A. system. That’s what he needed. Once he shut the door, he turned toward the raven-haired woman and smirked. If she was looking for a dumb guy that would just easily hand over the reaffirmation that she could have any dumb guy she wanted - well, she certainly got it.
He’s going to blame the jacked-up hormones on the aftereffects of Aphrodite’s daughter for what happens next. He hooked his hands under her bottom, hoisted her up once she had her arms wrapped around his neck, and walked her toward the counter with the P.A. system, "I’m normally more of a romantic, but I had a run-in with the daughter of Aphrodite, and I am a bit… on edge." And that was hardly even the tip of the iceberg.
Blair’s coy act faded away when they were in the privacy of the office. She had already gotten him and she was far from coy. As Nick scooped her up, her legs instinctually wrapped around his waist. Her fingers snaked through his dark locks and gave them a playful tug. "Whatever you need to tell yourself, dollface."
He released her, moved between her legs as she settled on the counter, but he leaned off to the side and past her to press a button to turn the system on. His voice would echo through the entire camp - inside the facilities and outside.
"Good morning, Campers," he began then went on to introduce himself, "I’m Nicholas Bower, and as you’ve heard from Poseidon, I will be assisting in your training." He kept one of his hands on her thighs and as he continued to address the camp Blair’s hands trailed down his chest. They stopped when they found the top of his jeans. With a smirk, she began to unzip them. "It is now...," he paused and looked at the watch he clearly didn’t have on his right wrist, "...something o’clock, so be ready at the training arena at 4:30 pm sharp. This training is mandatory. Be dressed for the part, and everything else will be provided for you."
Being the sturdy, but not sharpest tool, in the shed - he forgot to turn the P.A. system off, "Why’d you have to wear pants?" He sighed at that, but it was playfully disappointed rather than actually disappointed. But lowkey… he was a little disappointed.
"I want you to work for your meal." In the confines of the small office, Blair quickly turned from prey to predator. She wasn’t some naive girl who didn’t know how boys were, but a woman who knew exactly what she wanted from a man. A minx. She grabbed a fist full of his shirt, pulling him close so their bodies pressed together. "And I’m not fast food," she purred, her lips so close to his that when she spoke they brushed ever so slightly.
Blair trailed her lips along his jaw and down his neck, stopping at his shirt collar when her gaze fell to his hand still holding the P.A. button. "Boys," she scoffed softly under her breath as she took his hand off the button and placed it upon her chest. "I hope you’re not expecting this to be over quickly."
Ah, she was a feisty one. Dominant, too. It’s a bit awkward for him, but it was also a blessing. Nicholas didn’t want to think about anything - if he even thought at all. In fact, he didn’t even notice that she removed his hand from the PA system button, only that it was now on her chest and he was happy about that. "We have a couple hours." He seized her hair at the back of her head and gently tugged it back to expose her neck, "I’ll try my best to leave you intact for training." It wasn’t a promise that he was likely to fulfill.
* * *
Only the gods know how much time was spent in the P.A. office, but it smelled like sex. Whatever was on the counter was on the floor to make room for two worn-out Demigods. Sleep after physical excursion was only logical.
Unlike Nick, who fell asleep shortly after finishing, Blair just laid on the table looking up at the ceiling. In her typical fashion, whenever she was faced with situations she had no control over or didn’t like, she’d backpedal into one of her vices, sex in particular. For her, it was a coping mechanism. She didn’t have control over her life, but she could have control when it came to her sex life. It wouldn’t make sense to many people, but it was the weird sort of fucked up way she functioned. And it worked.
Nick rolled over and ended up on the floor with a loud “bang”, which was followed by an audible groan. "Shi--...," he started to curse but let it trail off as he rubbed his face, rolled onto his back, and pulled himself up to his feet. When the haze of being tired eventually cleared up, he looked at the small clock mounted on the wall just above the P.A. system.
4:23 pm. "Ah, shit," he cursed while running a hand through his long messy hair, and began to dress. In the midst of all this, he would toss some items of clothing onto Blair. "We gotta go."
Blair was barely able to hop off the table before Nick started throwing clothes at her. She caught the first couple of pieces. "Alright, Jesus," she grumbled as she tried to juggle the clothes in her hands and catch whatever else he tossed. She managed to hook her bra on her finger, but things began to slip from her grasp. She set the pile down on the table as she started pulling on her undergarments. "I don’t think daddy is going to kill you for being a little late."
"Have you met Poseidon?" He’d wait for her, as it was only natural not to leave a woman cold after sex. Even women like Blair. Since she wasn’t adept on her feet, or so she claimed, he grabbed her wrist and pulled them both into a light jog toward the arena.
Blair had just barely pulled on her pants when he took her hand and dragged her out of the office. At the rate he was going, she just barely managed to scoop up her purse and cardigan. She definitely was not the running or jogging type and punctuality was not something she worried herself over. Blair was more of the fashionably late-type, not the rush to grab a taxi type. Halfway there she scoffed and jerked her arm free.
If Nick wanted to race to the arena like an idiot he could, but sex was enough physical excursion. Especially if he planned on her training. That was a whole other battle. So rather than wearing herself out any further, Blair freed herself of the meathead and took her own sweet time getting there. She saw what direction he headed in, so it was easy enough to follow while she adjusted her appearance to look a little more presentable… as much as possible anyway.
Nicholas made it to the arena with Blair not trailing too far behind. He had gotten dressed in everything but his shirt, but as a beach boy, he hardly cared. He had some scars and a large tattoo on his right side. Otherwise, he was a very typical musclehead - all brawn, and as Blair figured out, no brain. At least, no brain for intellectual stuff like books and shit. He didn’t need all that when he knew that his place would eventually be alongside his biological father.
Once Blair arrived, she made her way over to the stands and took a seat. And in typical snobby girl fashion, she put on her sunglasses and a resting bitch face. She crossed her right leg over her left as she sifted through her purse for a sucker. Strawberry, her favorite. She plucked the wrapper off the candy and then placed it between her lips. Perhaps giving Nick the best sex of his life and disappearing into the crowd would get her out of training. She could hope.
He tried to place himself in a place where he could be heard at all, which wasn’t hard because he could certainly bellow his voice to command attention. "As I stated before, I am Nicholas Bower, son of Poseidon. As you’ve heard, I will be assisting you all in your training. The gods have all agreed that Camp Athens has ventured away from its original purpose," he scratched the back of his neck as he parroted the words he was given to relay. "Before I get to training, I do have to update you all on the status of the Valis children. They won't be returning to camp. I wasn’t given any other info. Just relaying the deets… So there it is." He gave everyone his notorious finger guns gesture at that.
With that out of the way, he smirked, "With that out of the way, welcome to the training arena." He held his arms out to gesture to the massive structure. "It has magical properties that allow observers to be unaffected by powerful influences and/or abilities. So, you can go ham on each other in here." He shook his head from side to side, then jabbed an index finger toward them all, "No killing. No harm to life, limb, or eyesight. Yadda yadda. Healers will be on standby."
Nicholas paused to give everyone a moment to digest everything before he continued, "The arena’s unique property allows it to transform into an environment best suited for the pair of demigods. That means, unless a gladiatorial style arena best suits both of you, this empty space will not be your environment. All weapons, elements, and anything else both Demigods might need, will be provided for you. Though if you have your own weapons, you are welcome to bring them with you."
He stopped because he had to think about everything that he could possibly be missing. He pointed a finger up in the air, "We are going to see where you’re at in terms of Demigod skills, so our first training is a spar. To avoid favoritism, the pairings will be random. So, everyone come and grab a token." He produced a pouch (which he was honestly surprised he remembered), and shook it. He reached in and pulled a blue one, then handed it to the next Demigod for the drawing. "If you grab a blue one, you’ll join me in the arena for the first dual."
Blair scoffed, rolling her eyes as she moved to her feet. She held the lollipop in her mouth as she wormed her way past other campers to grab her token and be done with it. She didn’t bother with the pomp and circumstance of digging around to find what token spoke spoke to her. Her fingers tightened on the first piece she felt and pulled it out to find that she had silver. Well, at least she wasn’t first. Silver lining she supposed. Blair tucked the token into her pocket before returning to her seat.
Theo was locked in his trancelike state for some time. It didn't make sense, him not being able to see things clearly, him not being able to figure things out. The battlefield scenario before him was just a muddled mess in his mind. Being so focused on the war scene before him, Theo never heard Daniel enter the room or start speaking. It was a hand on the back of his shoulder that snapped him back to reality.
"Have you ate?"
Theo turned quickly, propping himself on the war table now behind him. Theo's first reaction was to brace himself for danger, probably a product of where his thoughts had been leading him while staring at the war table. He wasn't exactly used to or comfortable with letting an enemy this close to him. The tension in his muscles relaxed as he saw Daniel's concerned look.
"Dude, Daniel, you scared the hell out of me! You can't creep up on a guy like that."
Theo caught Daniel taking in the war table. For some reason, having someone know that he was replaying the trial made Theo feel even more insecure. He shifted over a bit to obscure Daniel's vision of the table.
"Don't worry about that. Just trying to see things more clearly. And yes... I ate this morning." There was a slight shakiness to Theo's voice. He hoped Daniel couldn't pick up on it, but Theo knew Daniel was an observant guy.
Theo was more than relieved to leave the small hut and follow Daniel outside into the open air. "Theo, come check this out." Squinting, Theo's eyes adjusted to the bright late morning sun. He set his gaze in the same direction as Daniel. There was Heath, long hair and all, and then there was some girl Theo didn't recognize holding a guitar. She was attractive, to say the least. Theo felt a weird pull in her direction. He couldn't place it. He simply fell in line behind Daniel on his walk to meet the duo. It was odd having so many new faces at camp, but in light of recent events, maybe it was what a good thing. Theo could use some fresh friends.
Before they could reach the new girl, Heath stepped forward to intercept them. He looked worried about something, but Theo being Theo, he was more focused on the pretty girl in front of him. Still, he managed to hear what Heath had to say. "Morning, you two know my adopted sister, Iliana right? Have either of you seen her? She went off on her own this morning and I want make sure she's okay." Theo's protective instincts kicked in a bit. He finally turned his eyes to Heath. Theo was sure Iliana was fine, but he didn't want to take Heath's concern for granted. Flashing a soft, reassuring smile at Heath, Theo tried to calm him down. "Sorry, Heath, I haven't seen her yet today. I'm sure she's fine though. Probably still processing yesterday. I think we all are. Theo couldn't help but cut his gaze away. He hated anyone having a reason to think he was weak, but, to him, yesterday gave everyone just that. Theo shot his eyes back up and looked from Heath to Daniel for him to offer more reassurance.
During their mental debate to step forward and approach Heath and the new girl, the decision was made for them. Heath was heading for them, without his new friend tow. Daniel tried not to visibly pout or turn sulky, or blame Theo, but it was totally his fault.
"Morning, you two know my adopted sister, Iliana right? Have either of you seen her? She went off on her own this morning and I want make sure she's okay."
"Sorry, Heath, I haven't seen her yet today. I'm sure she's fine though. Probably still processing yesterday. I think we all are."
Daniel nodded once as it was well said from the son of Artemis. But then a sort of silence lingered and he caught Theo's eyes on him, seeming to prompt him to add more. Daniel cleared his throat. "How old is she?" Iliana did appear extremely youthful. Like around 15 but he guessed she was older and regardless of what teen year she was - she was a demigod and willingly went off on her own. That's why Daniel asked so Heath realized it, stating it out loud. "Most demigods here are decent, if she's in strife or pain, somebody will comfort her. The others? Ignore her and let her be. You're looking at a 2% chance of something actually bad happening to her. If things weren't turned upside down and there's no sign of struggle, she'll come back when she's ready." It wasn't the most assuring, but it was realistic.
He pursed his lips and stepped up to Heath. "I'm going to lay a pro tip on you. You're going to be divided one day, whether on your own or surrounded by people you can't trust so....branch out. Make friends in high places. That way, you don't have to worry about your sister every two seconds." Daniel understood the worry. When Andy came to camp, he could have developed a whole nervous itch no matter how well she could take care of herself. But quickly, she made friends that cared for her and would protect her, watch her back and have eyes on her. It was just...more comforting knowing she had a solid support system around her. And Heath might feel some relief if he made friends for himself and Iliana too.
"But Theo here, Theo's a wicked tracker." There it was. Some actual helpful advice. Plus it'd keep Theo out of his head, give him something to do if Heath and/or Theo was willing.
It was then some announcement came through the whole of camp. With a little bonus content that made Daniel arch a brow then wrinkle his nose. He worried for a second how far and suggestive things would get on the PA system but then came the blissful silence. Daniel audibly sighed out and relaxed not realizing how tense he was from second-hand embarrassment. Then he simply went about doing his own thing.
* * *
Daniel shuffled back into the training arena for mandatory exercise and a speech...there always had to be some speech. He'd throw popcorn at the guy if it wasn't the poor guy's job. Although he was sick to death of hearing how they were doing everything wrong and about their own camp grounds. "this purpose is wrong. Work, work , work - no play. Be mindless drones. This is what this place is capable of." Like Daniel and his conjurations hadn't put the camp through the rounds. But not everybody crash test-dummied the place he supposed.
He shuffled up for a token because that's what others were doing. It was pretty easy to follow the pattern. He drew a white one at random and returned to his seat, flipping it like a coin until the arena got ready to rumble. He tried to pay attention to who else drew the white one.
Iliana remembered the last time she'd been at the stables. It was the day when she first arrived, which seemed like a lifetime ago. So much had happened in such a brief time. Alex's trial, the party, and then there was yesterday's incidents. Not to mention all the little things that happened. Iliana didn't know what would happen next. All she knew for sure was she wasn't looking forward to it. So consumed in her own thoughts, she didn't realize that someone was following her.
Reaching the stables, she hesitated. She liked animals, but in her current state, she was afraid of what she would do. She learned animals could sense someone's feelings and could respond to that, especially with horses. One of Heath's relatives worked with horses and she got to see them a few times growing up. Never had the courage to ride one though. Heath did and did pretty well.
Suddenly the hairs on the back of Iliana's neck stirred and she turned around to see someone coming up to her. She didn't recognize him. Confused on what he wanted, Iliana gave the man her full attention.
"Hi there. I'm...I'm completely lost and confused. I've lost my bearings. Would you be able to help me out. I’m looking for the hall."
He didn't look confused, at least not to Iliana. She suppose she could lead him to the Hall, but that would mean running into more people, something she wanted to avoid. Still, she couldn't leave him hanging. She would show him the way, but then leave when she did. Decision made, she started typing her response on her iPad when the stranger spoke up again, talking about the horses before introducing himself as Lochlan, all the while holding his hand out. Iliana hesitated briefly, feeling compelled, placed her hand in his.
"And I think this is the part where you tell me your name."
All thought escaped her mind. She felt this intense pressure within her head. Without thinking about it, Iliana spoke for the first time in over a year.
"I . . . li. . . . na. Iliana," she said a scratchy and low voice.
Shocked, Iliana inadvertently dropped her iPad as she raised her now free hand to her mouth. She spoke. Lochlan could probably figure out she hadn't used it in awhile due to how rough it was. Iliana couldn't believe it. She remembered when Apollo had told her he healed her vocal chords. She had tried speaking then, but nothing came. It was like something was blocking her. Now for some reason she could speak. How did that happen? Totally forgetting about Lochlan, Iliana felt her eyes welling up.
"I . . . can . . . talk . . . . how?" she murmured to herself.
Suddenly a voice penetrated the silence as someone spoke.
"Good morning, Campers, I’m Nicholas Bower, and as you’ve heard from Poseidon, I will be assisting in your training. It is now something o’clock, so be ready at the training arena at 4:30 pm sharp. This training is mandatory. Be dressed for the part, and everything else will be provided for you."
Snapping out of it, Iliana quickly took her hand out of Lochlan's hand and picked up her iPad. It when she heard this Nicholas and some other female. What they said confused Iliana, and that confusion read easily on her face. Deciding to ignore it, Iliana thought about what Poseidon's son said. Training? A look of fear passed over Iliana's face. That was not good. She didn't think that be wise, but knew she couldn't avoid it either. Maybe when the time came she could show up and try to convince Nicholas to sit this one out. Feeling her anxiety rise though, she remembered Lochlan was still there. Looking at him, she tried talking again.
"The . . . hall . . . . . is that . . . way," she said, pointing in the direction of the Hall.
Wanting to be alone again, the blonde took off running, leaving Lochlan alone.
Theo was the first to answer Heath's question. He also noticed how the man didn't directly look at him at times, but seemed to be looking beyond them. Heath looked and saw him looking at Veronica. Knowing that she was Aphrodite's daughter, and his own initial reaction to her, Heath wasn't too surprised by Theo's reaction. But at least he gave him an answer. Then Daniel spoke up, but instead saying if he'd seen Iliana, he asked him her age.
"She's 19," he said simply, not understanding why Daniel would want to know that.
It wouldn't but the first time Daniel confused him though. Out of the campers Heath had met so far, Daniel was the most puzzling. At least he came off as a decent man, much like his sister. Before Heath could thank the two men for their time, Daniel spoke up again.
"I'm going to lay a pro tip on you. You're going to be divided one day, whether on your own or surrounded by people you can't trust so....branch out. Make friends in high places. That way, you don't have to worry about your sister every two seconds."
It was very sound advice and Daniel was probably right. He could probably relate to Heath since he had a sister and since both Daniel and Andy had been at camp last year, Heath knew he should follow good advice. Still, Heath's protective nature was never going to fully go ahead. Heath even before Iliana had come to live with him and his family, Heath could recall the times he tried protecting others. It was just innate for him to be that way, for better or worse. But Heath knew he'd would sleep better at night if he knew more people at camp would get along with Iliana. Her recalled Cherise being nice to Iliana, as well as Duke and Wes, at least from what Iliana told him. He also remembered Iliana had hanged around others more then he did. He would hope she would do that again, but first she had to get over the events of yesterday.
"Thank you. I will do my best to follow your advice,"
Daniel then mentioned that Theo was a great tracker. That got Heath's attention, but before he could say anything, an announcement was made. So Poseidon's son was here? Heath then caught Nicholas's voice again along with a female voice. Heath couldn't help but groan. He could piece together what was happening. Waiting a few more minutes, it sounded like the pair had turned off the speakers, much to Heath's relief. Focusing on what Nicholas said, it sounded like they were finally going to start training. He hoped Iliana showed up.
Looking at Theo and Daniel, Heath said, "Thanks for both of your help. If Iliana doesn't show up for training, I'll probably ask you for your assistance, Theo."
Bowing to them, Heath returned to Veronica.
"Looks like we're going to be training soon. I think I'll give Iliana the space she needs for now, so I'll go about my own way for now. Oh, I would recommend letting other guys know you're Aphrodite's daughter since we males might act like fools around you," Heath said with a small grin before continuing, "Thanks for your assistance. I'll see you later."
With that, Heath went on his way.
Ethan entered his cabin to see Heath already ready for training.
"Hey, any luck finding Iliana?{/color]
[color=#808000]"No, but did decide to stop looking for her right after that announcement,"
"Aw, well, I am going to get ready for training," Ethan said before heading for his private quarters.
It didn't take him too long for he dressed in workout clothes, the same way as Heath was. Ethan would have spoken up, but the front door opened and Iliana came in. The three stood in silence when Heath suddenly came forward and drew Iliana into a hug. Surprised, Iliana just stood there.
"You had me worried, Lia," Heath said.
"So . . . rry. . . ." Iliana said softly.
For the first time in his life, Heath was shocked. Did . . . did Iliana just speak? Gently, Heath held his sister back.
"What did you say?"
"I'm . . . sorry . . . I didn't . . . . mean to . . . make . . . you . . . worry."
Heath's jaw dropped and he found himself dropping to his knees. Concerned, Iliana dropped before him. Ethan hadn't heard Iliana speak, wanting to give siblings space, but he came forward and dropped next to his friend when he saw him drop to the floor.
"Hey, you okay? What happened?" he asked as he placed a hand on Heath's shoulder.
Tears appeared in Heath's eyes as he looked at Iliana. He honestly thought he would never hear Iliana speak ever again. Hearing her voice, as rough as it was, was miraculous. Overcome with emotion for the first time, Heath cried. Both Iliana and Ethan comforted him. Ethan was confused, while Iliana herself started crying.
Soon, Heath calmed down and looked at Iliana again.
"When . . when were you able to talk again?"
"This morning . . . when I met . . . a new camper . . . named Lochlan."
Now it was Ethan's turn to look surprised since he never heard Iliana talk before. When Heath heard Iliana mentioning someone new, he couldn't help but wonder if this Lochlan had anything to do with Iliana talking now. Well, with training coming up, now would be a good time to find out. Needing a goal to refocus, Heath decided to thinking about training, otherwise he wouldn't be able to recover from the shock he just received.
"Well, you can talk and I can't tell you how happy that makes me feel, Lia. Are you going to come with us to training, Lia? It be best if you did," Heath asked before getting to his feet.
Ethan and Iliana stood up too.
"I will come, but . . . I don't . . . want to . . . train. . . . Might hurt someone." Iliana said, slowly getting used to using her voice again.
"You might have no choice, Lia. Best get ready just in case. We'll see if we can convince this Nicholas to let you skip this session." Ethan said, trying to be encouraging.
Nodding, Iliana left to get changed. Alone once more, Heath decided to confide to Ethan.
"I still can't believe Lia can talk. I don't want her to train either, but I know our mothers want us to train. Mother even told me it's imperative for Iliana to master her powers at some point."
"Hey at least Lia can talk now. And maybe this training will help her."
"Iliana has been training since she was a kid though. I still don't know how being here will make a difference."
"Try to think a bit more positively, bro. Maybe training with other demigods will make a difference. I honestly don't know what to expect, but dwelling on the cons will not help us or Lia."
What Ethan didn't add was he wasn't looking forward to training either. He was not a fighter and knew he was severely lacking in practicing a few of his own skills.
Soon, Iliana came out of her room and the trio left for the training grounds.
Once there they saw others arriving, including Nelly. Nelly had a fine time taking pictures and was pleased the images she took. After lunch, she spent the next few hours at her cabin going through all the pictures. She already knew she would be making a scrapbook for her trip here. Her next plan of action was to get pictures of her fellow campers, but knew she'd have to get permission first. First rule in photography people was to ALWAYS get permission to avoid any legal trouble in the future. That was something her mother taught her. However, she knew she would never get pictures of them using their abilities. That was just asking for trouble and Nelly would never do anything that might put her and her fellow demigods in danger.
Once things were settled, a tall dark haired guy came forward and reintroduced himself as Nicholas. First thing he mentioned was how the Valises wouldn't be returning. This got Nelly and Iliana's attention. Nelly was curious for the reason why, but had a feeling she would never know why. Oh, well, at least she knew what happened to them. Iliana knew the Valises had gone to Olympus. Maybe what happened to them was too much for them to handle. She hoped they were going to be okay, especially Alex.
Nicholas then started talking about their training. When he was done, Heath and Ethan got up to get their tokens. Heath drew out a white token and Ethan drew a green one. Both were relieved their weren't sparring with each other. Turning back, they head for their seat. Nelly wanted to see what colors others drew before getting hers. She saw what colors Ethan and Heath drew, as well as a few others. She started heading up when Daniel head up, so she was able to spy his white token. Looks like he was going up against Heath. This should prove interesting. Daniel was Hecate's son right? So he was bound to use magic skills. Heath was Athena's son. She had no idea what his skills would be, but she imagined he would be pretty smart. Well she would wait and see. Coming up to Nicholas, she smiled and reached into the bag to pull out a pink token.
"Aww, phooey, pink? I was hoping for turquoise, navy, or orange," she complained since those were her fav colors.
Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbled, she suppose. Shrugging, she returned to her seat.
Iliana deliberately waited for everyone else to get their token before taking a deep breath and approaching Nicholas.
With desperation in her eyes, she quietly asked, "Do I really . . . . have to . . . train? . . . . I can't . . . control my powers . . . . I've killed before . . . "
She started crying again, thinking about the past once more. Once again, it started drizzling. Looking at Nicholas and seeing he wasn't going to let her be excused, Iliana sighed and grabbed the last token before going to sit down.
Rae couldn't help but chuckle at his response, "I also wouldn't be against the creation of some, as long as it's on the more fun and entertaining side and not the hazing and abusive side." He seemed to change his tune by placing the shoe of the hazed on another foot, "But if I weren't on the receiving end I wouldn't be opposed to the latter." Unfortunately, or not, for Vincent - Rae was not the bullying kind of gal. Sure, she had serious sexual addictions that may or may not have anything to do with voids that may or may not exist, but she was still a decent woman.
Her feet kicked a bit in the air; a simple idle animation that was otherwise meaningless. "Do I sense that I have a bad boy on my hands?" She masked the serious inquiry underneath the playfulness of her tone. Not that she'd mind. Hell, her first and last good lay here in Athens seemed like a troublemaker. Maybe she just attracted those types of guys.
If there were any emotions scrawled either on his features or in his body language, she didn't seem to pick up on them easily. Vincent didn't seem bothered, however, or she figured he might have left by now. Any man that didn't enjoy an extremely forward woman would have run for the hills. Maybe even just drowned themselves in the ocean. Her personality didn't mesh with very many people, especially those in the heavy testosterone department. Yet, Vincent appeared to respond to her with just as much flirtation, so she felt okay to proceed. Not that she wouldn't have if she knew he was uncomfortable. The gods did give him two working legs to get away.
I would say a solid seven, I'm much better with tea. I've never heard any complaints from those I've entertained or served but maybe they were satisfied with the other aspects of my 'hospitality'." By this time, he had unabashedly gotten right into her personal space. Hell, her intimate space. For a second there she had a momentary lapse in character and seemed surprised. She blinked once or twice too rapidly. Usually, she's the first one to get this close, but here he was - breaking rules.
"You are quite devious, aren't you?" She spared a moment to boldly reach out and run a finger or two across his chest; her eyes following the motion. It was then that the P.A. system could be heard far too loudly, disrupting the mood. Rae was getting there, too.
After he stood, as did she. Since he offered his jacket, and it was getting a bit nipply, she took it. "Seems like you won't have much more time to tan and it's getting a little chilly." She watched him gather the rest of his belongings, looking very much like a sad puppy. "I haven't had the pleasure of receiving your name. Are you going to tell me or wait until I finally ask you directly?"
With the daunting task of training being on the horizon, she hardly thought it was appropriate to ask Vincent to his cabin. Whatever was going to happen, she had no desire to be sore for it. "The gods are cruel," she mused in a disappointed sing-songy voice as she tugged the jacket over her shoulders.
Since he was adamant about getting her name, she finally entertained him with an introduction, "Rae, daughter of Artemis. A point that seems to be of interest to most of the Demigods here. Parentage. Do with that what you will," she shrugged once and started to head away from the beach and toward the cabins. She'd need to shower and get dressed.
She allowed herself to walk with him for only a short while before she stopped abruptly and turned toward him, "My cabin's the one with the raven knick-knack surrounded by the lunar cycle hanging on the door." She even pointed in that general direction, "If you want the jacket back, you'll have to come to get it." She smirked, twirled back around, and made off toward her cabin.
The moment her back turned away from him, all notes of friendliness faded from her features. Training. Rae didn't want to do anything like that right now. Sure, she did well enough with her abilities, but she didn't exactly have many things to do that didn't support others. Maybe she'd get lucky and it would be a team-building exercise. Then again...
... she already got lucky being blessed by a half-naked man on the beach, so there was likely no more luck to be had.
* * *
Of course, when she finally made it to the arena she would note that her luck did, in fact, run out. It was a sparring event. Not exactly anything original. It was made worse by the fact that the pairings would be made at random by drawing a token. The redhead brushed some hair behind an ear, her eyes venturing about to seek out which meathead she could possibly be paired up with. Even a gal as comfortable and confident as she had her own self-doubt when it came to certain things. Sex? Sure. Advice about life? Great! Need a gal pal or a wing woman? She's right there. Put her in an arena with anyone here, and she might be put on her ass. Or worse - someone was going to ruin her precious face and body.
When it was her turn to take a token, she reached into the bag and snatched up a black one. She didn't even want to know who else had it. She sat down and went over the logistics of the arena and its magical property; running various scenarios through her head about how it might change for her. How much it might change for her opponent.
"Yeah, they’re healing up nicely," Mason responded in a way that might offend most people, but Cherise could understand that he didn't exactly want to open up and stare at her or anything. Hey, a wall is as good as anything... she supposed.
It was around then that Andy took her seat and responded in a more social fashion, which certainly complimented the brooding asocial Demigod of Hades. "Still a little sore. But mostly just bruises. Thanks again for your help. I'm sure Daniel is grateful I'm not dead. I'm glad he has you for a friend." This got a bright smile from Cherise - as if it was that hard to get the sun child to brighten up anyway.
She gave off a little wave toward Trinity, but she didn't recall ever meeting the woman.
"Help yourself if you want," Mason's invitation surprised her a bit, as he seemed more content with the wall than an actual living being trying to talk to him.
Regardless, Cherise waved one of her hands toward him in a motion to decline his offer to join them. "Oh, I had no intention to join. I was just checking up, is all." Despite Mason's awkward nature, she still smiled his way, "I am going to eat outside."
With a swift departing wave toward the party of three, she turned and did just that - took some time to eat outside and enjoy the morning air. Until the announcement of training chimed over the loudspeakers anyway. She finished up her food, took back her empty dishware, and traveled back to her cabin with a nice leisurely stroll.
Along the way, Cherise saw a few people here and there, but she mostly minded her own business. She'd likely spend the rest of her remaining time figuring out what to wear, especially since the details on this training event left... much to be desired.
* * *
Cherise went with something sporty casual. It was an outfit that wouldn't get in the way, but she also wouldn't mind if it got ruined. In all likelihood, she was going to be destroyed depending on the type of training it was. She didn't bring anything else but herself since it was stated that everything else will be provided. On second thought, she should have brought her bow.
She ended up at the arena around the same time Rae had. Luckily, the redhead was close to Daniel so she could be near them both at once. Cherise didn't want there to be any sort of awkwardness between the three of them. Daniel is the guy she's interested in, but Rae is her bestie. There isn't a cute rhyming scheme like "bros before hos" for women, but the rule still applied.
When Nicholas explained the mechanics of the training, she sighed. Rae and Cherise seemed to look at each other at the same time, and they likely had the same thought about the matter. After the moon child got her black token, Cherise plucked out her own. Gold. Not black. At least she won't be pit against her best friend!
Ah, but anyone here could pulverize her.
After she sat back down, she was practically lifting her bum all the way out of her seat to sneak a peek at Daniel's own token. She's probably fall over if she leaned forward even just an inch more!
Veronica watched as Heath questioned the other two campers about his missing sister, her eyes slowly moving between the two of them. She was trying to see if she could work out who their parents were, though she’d easily admit that Heath didn’t jump out as what she’d have expected from a child of Athena anymore than she did as one of Aphrodite.
She’d hung back slightly to allow Heath to approach them but as he started speaking she’d gingerly moved closer; so she was standing far enough to be apart but close enough that she could just about make out most of what they were saying. It did help that the voice of the second guy carried easier than the first, who’d seemed a little distant when Heath was speaking to him. And then she realised he kept glancing over Heath’s shoulder towards her, almost stealing glances since he kept looking away a moment later. It made her feel somewhat self-conscious but at the same time she felt the shiver of excitement as the gooseflesh rippled across her skin. She rubbed her hands up and down her arms to try and soften them again.
The second guy, who thus far seemed to have directed all of his attention towards Heath, seemed to have started onto some kid of speech that sounded like it was bordering on a lecture. The snippets she caught made her smile a little to herself since by the sounds of it, Heath was perhaps a little over-protective of his sister. She had to turn away slightly to hide her expression, just in case he turned around and thought she was making fun of him, which would be terrible given that so far, he’s the nearest thing to a friend she’s got so far. She glanced back over at Theo at mention that he was a tracker, which seemed an odd thing to bring up before she remembered that they were meant to be looking for Heath’s sister so that actually made perfect sense now that she thought it over.
The exchange in front of her was interrupted by the sound of a somewhat familiar voice that she couldn’t quite place echoing throughout the camp. Though it wasn’t until she heard his tone change to something more seductive, or at least a little teasing that she realised it was the boy she’d met earlier. As his interaction with another girl started to get a little heated over the intercom, Veronica had to almost stuff her hand into her mouth as she burst out into a fit of giggles, almost doubling over as the awkward conversation continued. When everything went back to silence it took her a few moments to calm down and be able to breathe properly without laughing.
She saw Heath walking towards her, and nodded when he suggested she warn these two who she was in case they had a similar reaction to either Heath or Nicholas. She was a little surprised by Heath’s sudden departure but he clearly wanted to be alone after the other boy had given him a bit of a dressing down. So taking a deep breath she walked over to the two campers and did her best to introduce herself.
”um, hey. Not sure if you heard Heath, but yeah, I’m the daughter of Aphrodite. Names Veronica, and as I told him if I had any friends they’d call me Vi. What’re your names?” Her tone varied throughout her introduction, mumbling a little to start before barging straight into self-deprecating humour as she gave her hand a wave towards the two in introduction. Though, one of them had simply turned and walked away before she’d started speaking in earnest and she wondered if the other boy had simply not heard her, but she definitely had the impression that he was ignoring her on purpose. Giving him a curious momentary glance, she returned her focus back to the other boy instead.
Veronica hadn’t really known what to do with herself during the gap between the announcement and their gathering at the arena, nor did she really know what she’d do during the actual training itself. After grabbing a little bit of food from the camps canteen, doing her best to avoid anyone else around she filled a water bottle before returning to the arena to wait. She’d kept her guitar with her since it would at least give her something to occupy her time with, so she'd simply lain back and gently strummed a tune while she waited for the rest of camp to filter in.
Nicholas, the great son of Poseidon she’d encountered earlier took centre stage and began to run through some details of what they were going to be doing, and what she presumed was an update on other demigods who weren’t returning to camp. That part piqued her interest, though since she’d literally arrived that morning she had no idea what drama had been going on before. The thought of going into the arena to fight didn’t exactly appeal to Veronica, but honestly what choice did she have. She was glad to finally know the name of the boy she’d sent running into the woods, even if when he’d first announced it over the intercom. She still needed to apologise to him for that as it kind of made her feel a little sorry for him, especially since he was doing his best to be authoritative. Though that had probably went straight out of the window when he’d broadcast his “extracurricular activities” all over the camp earlier.
Leaving her guitar leading against the stand she’d been sitting on she sauntered down to the front and picked up a green token from the bag. Turning it over in her fingers she slowly made her way back to her seat, while glancing around to find the token she’d spotted someone taking just before, and settling on a boy sitting next to Heath. The girl next to them must be his sister, but she looked rather uncomfortable and flighty as if she was about to make a break for it. There was definitely something familiar about her but Veronica still couldn’t quite place it, so it might be worth trying to speak with her later on. And as she watched the girl almost have a breakdown as she went up for her own token, she decided later was probably best. Definitely later.
This was going to be a rough afternoon as far as Veronica was concerned.
For some time, Daniel had tried to train himself not to worry for his little sister. Not only was she capable of handling herself in the melee department but she could make full use of her powers too. But none of that helped or mattered. Seeing his sister go up against a child of Poseidon that was all buff and tall and handsome and authoritative kinda freaked him out. Andy had fallen for that trap before. Not to mention he could probably kick her little ass.
Daniel risked a glance around, finding Cherise and Rae behind him. He was initially checking their reactions to the new fresh meat of camp. Drooling was 100% expected, but he hoped the lady he was carrying the torch for made an effort to hide it at least. Instead, he found Cherise leaning over curiously to get a peek at his token. He beamed, tilting his head back amused and wondering when their eyes would meet. He opened up his palm to reveal his white token then reached back touching her arm. "Yours? He tugged her arm playfully just giving her a balance check then chuckled. "Hold on, I'm coming up," he whispered. And sure as anything, Daniel straddled the row of seats awkwardly then swung the other leg over the park beside Cherise. Daniel did have a thought to pull her down with him but Rae probably wouldn't appreciate that. Sisterhood and all.
He cleared his throat, shuffling a little closer and rested his arm around the back of Cherise's seating. Only then did the uncomfortableness of another male subside for investment in the fight. And boy, did Andy make him that Nick work. It was anyone's duel, but he was proud and relieved when Andy ended up on top. What's more is the guy he was intimidated by, thinking Nick such a panty dropper, sulked all the way over to another girl. That came as double relief.
Mason got up the second, maybe even before, the other fighters settled holding his token for all to see. When he was abrupt like that it generally wasn't good news. His opponent rose and met him in the arena. Daniel rubbed his forehead. This was turning into stress central for him. The red head wasn't violent and probably couldn't handle the wrath of a Hades son. She just wasn't one you saw in a fight, and he worried enough for Andy. He looked at Andy seeing if she could pick up on his pissiness too then his eyes went right back to the arena.
Hopefully, it was over quickly, mercifully and non-brutally. And once that imaginary bell went off, Mason was on the attack. He kinda played sick child torturing his pet for a while. As somebody pro Mason, he made it hard to stand in his corner and defend him sometimes so Daniel grew anxious just praying for Mason to stop and end it. But then she struck back. What developed was an aggressor and a defender with a serious backbone. And the result: Both friends collapsed. While Mason seemed to be in physical pain, Evelyn was growing paler and had more laboured breath and looked weaker by the second.
What the actual hell was going on? His eyes darted between the two, anxiety creeping up in his chest convinced neither would surrender and both would blackout. Then mercy, as Mason rose the arena transformed back to its original state.
Daniel blew out his lips like he was suffocating in there with them. "Jesus," he muttered. "Don't you go down there so soon."
No one taking his advice was nothing new. Daniel huffed out and watched the duels roll on. It was entertaining but tedious at the same time. His fellow demigods offered a variety of skills and power flexes, and some duos were pretty on par with each other but there was only so much gladiator a guy could watch with interest. He sat there with his arms crossed. Cherise and Sylas got a peak, given it was Cherise and she also light bombed the whole arena causing Daniel to turn away and squint back when it was safe. Evelyn's slenderman was slippery and he was just stuck on the notion he was an ass, although he'd personally done Daniel no wrong. And all things considered, when Cherise was forced to give in, he was gentle with her.
Liam and the new guy managed to get a small chuckle, though Daniel probably wouldn't fare much better. But he'd at least pay attention to the raging bull of a man and try to wrap him in illusions and conjurations. The son of Ares was a hard man to miss after all. It's not like stealth was on his side.
The singing and dancing of one hypnotic child also caught his attention. The girl he saw earlier with Theo and tried to wingman but she ducked them all. He lent forward and listened intently, watching her seem to grow more comfortable and confident in her maneuvers but also become trapped like in her own world. Though he might've jinxed that as Ethan quickly turned that around to a more literal metaphor.
Trinity and Rae's demanded his attention, what with an intimidating roar and feline in the battlefield. They hit it real archaic style and he could dig it. Rae was smart to shapeshift into an animal with such bulk and natural weaponry because as a girl, Trinity would have been a minute behind her brother's record. Trinity wrestled the lion down into a forfeit until she was near straddled on a naked red head girl. Daniel blinked unable to help the thought of with a few modifications it'd be every man's dream...maybe teenage boy more accurately but still it wasn't bad.
Rae's nudity caused some to rise from their seats and clamber around for the best view. Which thankfully obstructed his view because..yeah she was okay, beautiful really and a demigoddess but....she was Cherise's friend. Daniel scoffed at the basic primates. "Ever heard of the internet?" he muttered. Breasts and the rest lived there. Not to discredit the red head's body of course but...he was more ashamed of his peers.
Daniel rose from his seat to conjure a trenchcoat or something more fashionable for the girl, but by that time a series of retorts and "awws" seemed to echo around the arena and they all fell into their seats again. Daniel was the delayed one standing to find another girl in the middle of the arena had done what he was going to do. Crap. He quickly sat down. Now he looked like another keen ogler. Ah this was so bad. Daniel rubbed his face in frustration.
Then at last, at last..Nick rose again to draw an end to the day. Except Daniel watched him stop and backtrack in line to Evelyn's aisle instead. He was out of earshot but the conversation looked like some misunderstanding had gone down very...one-sidedly. Although Evelyn was naturally composed. Theeen Nick dismissed them.
Daniel flew out of the arena like it was a race and headed for the hills. As much as a hurry he was in to be alone, once he reached the destination he simply sat cross-legged to a decent overlook and conjured himself some popcorn. Rather quickly he came to find he was too lonely. Save a bird perched nearby. "I got this," he said shovelling popcorn in his mouth and holding a finger up to the bird. "I've got this," he assured watching people that looked like ants go about their merry day. "Sylas, is like Hopper, he even kinda looks like him a bit. We're all smaller than him and he's gotta play big bad Eris. Wesley...has got to be Belle, multilingual, a bit smart, sensitive and sensible, would save a beast from being killed. I get serious CruelleDeVille vibes from Sloane, like you don't know what she's up to or what she's about until she announces 'hey, I wanna skin all your puppies and wear dead animals'. Trinity's kinda got a Meg thing going on but...I see her and I think Maleficent. Like she'll pretend to be civil then she's mean and there's a dragon lurking underneath the surface. Gwen, Ar..." he stopped himself. Viviene was always Ariel to him even if Gwen wore it better. Who was now also gone. "Mason's got the Prince Eric look, but based on mentality, Dr. Facilier. And you know, Evelyn's got a little Ursula behind her eyes," he observed, unsure if he really wanted to lock that one in. He moved on to the others. "Rae's like the barbied Pochantos. Theo is prince Eric. Cherise is Snow White with a heart of gold and could probably make animals sing. Ajax, Simba, no question about it. Iliana..." he narrowed his eyes in thought, "Thumbelina."
Andy appeared relatively soon, but without word and strode past him to her door. Mason glanced back at her over his shoulder expecting the door to shut behind her but she waited and he took that as..some kind of good sign. He rose and took her invitation in.
He opened his mouth to begin but Andy went past him and to her draws by the sounds of it. With her seeking some fresh clothes, Mason took the time to try formulate his words. But there was nothing just blank after blank and did he address it as an issue or would that be insulting?
"I uh... I didn't see the end of your fight. I assume you won?" she asked, while Mason remained in the same place.
Now should he be insulted by that? Mason quickly ignored it, regarding it as nothing and scratched his jaw with a nod. "Yeah, only just. I must admit I wasn’t expecting much which was on me. Did you win yours?" He surprised even himself with that, convinced he was over to place nice, not sassy and sarcastic.
Mason sighed out. Since he spoiled the goal already, tact could be damned. "Andy, I care for you. More than I ever want to admit and more than you could possibly know. And I know that’s not always been shown but it’s been hard watching you settle for less than you deserve with…Ajax, and at the same time, I’m not sure I’m much better for you. As a friend or…otherwise." Mason headed towards Andy's direction slowly, not caring if she was indecent, half dressed or fully clothed by now. This was coming out and he wanted to look at her during the tell-all even if was through a reflection. "Since the minotaur I knew you were something special and amazing. And then -" a Zeus kid picked you up, of all people and it crushed me, but he didn't want to make it a bitch session or bring hostility into it. Not this time. Besides, a bit of her heart could have still belonged to him.
He crept closer and closer, keeping it slow so she could tell him to stop if she wished. "I was afraid. I wasn't ready." With a father like Hades and abilities like his, having loved ones was costly and tended to work out for the worst. "But I know what I want now. It's you." By then, he had stepped up behind her. Again, the goal wasn't to start a fight and go in guns blazing or kiss and touch her how he felt, but she was far too attractive to him. He probably should have stopped himself before he got too close but Mason had been waiting the longest time to just be able to hold her and kiss her. He carefully coiled his arms around the beautiful brunette. He kissed her cheek, keeping his eyes on her reflection. "I love you Andromeda Bolton. The ball's in your court." Mason lowered his head, his nose brushing along her cheek then gave her neck a feather light kiss before releasing her and shuffling a few steps back.
Should he get rejected, well...at least that was the last time he got to kiss her and hold her. Tender and affectionate as opposed to the closet encounter. Although being as gentle as he was now took some serious restraint.
Liam had been extremely tired, but that didn't mean he could sleep. From the moment his head hit the bed until this moment, he tossed and turned and fought the urge to open his eyes. He wasn't sure that he was actually asleep at all, to be honest. His body felt heavy, as did his eyes, but the horror movie playing at the back of his eyelids felt like reality. It had been a reality not too long ago.
After about two hours of struggling to find true sleep, he woke up. He stared into the tall mirror as he sat there. He looked miserable. A hand rubbed at the shadow of stubble forming along his jawline, and he clenched his teeth in irritation. His eyes began to look red. When Sloane got here, she'd know instantly that he hadn't had a very good sleep at all. If he even slept at all.
He stared at himself for an unknown amount of time but eventually pulled himself out of bed. Everything was a hot mess from all the tossing and turning, including the sheets separating from the mattress at some point. He scratched the back of his neck and wondered if it was safe to share a bed with anyone at this point. He fixed what he could, but that one stupid corner popped off. It always popped off. He just threw the covers over everything haphazardly, fixed the pillows, and moved to the shower.
A shower would definitely wake him up.
... But then he just stood under the hot water with his forehead pressed against the shower wall. His eyes were closed. Eyelids heavy. The whole bathroom steamed within minutes, the water searing hot but painless against his skin. Hell was more painful than this.
After a brisk cleaning, he shaved his face. He would have knicked himself several times if he didn't have such durable skin. He scoffed. Why bother? It'd grow back in like - five minutes. He threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then collapsed facefirst on his bed. Again.
He strongly felt that he wouldn't get any real sleep anytime soon. An Ares kid without rest was not going to be good for anyone.
Aafter leaving Rae and Blair to torture Duke, Cherise decided to check and see where Daniel might have gone. She thought she had seen him wander off into the woods, but that wasn't saying much. The forestry here was massive, and so many Demigods were doing things only they could do.
"You're archery skills are amazing, Cherise. That's definitely something I wouldn't mind learning myself. So what do you want to do now? Want to find Daniel?" The woman's head was blank, and Penny's words didn't reach her ears as quickly as they were spoken. She blinked and looked over at the redhead, "I thought that, actually. Not sure where he went. You can tag along if you want."
Cherise tucked her hands into her pockets and walked... and walked... and walked. There were various demigods out and about. She caught Sloane going to what she assumed was her own cabin. There was an unusual sight with her - a puppy. Of course, Rocco was not really a hidden thing. It was just that Liam walked him at the buttcrack of dawn, so no one has really ever seen the little pup unless they were up that early.
A few more steps and there was Nicholas - his pace was casual, and she raised her hand as if to begin to say "hello" and wave only for his attention to swiftly shift elsewhere. He turned quickly before it was halfway up. She sighed, put the hand back into her pocket, and continued.
For a social butterfly like Cherise, being at Camp Athens was significantly harder than she thought it would be. There seemed to be two types of people here - buttheads and... people that she couldn't put her finger on. Enigmas. Like the two that were together, Sylas and Evelyn, in a little spot in the woods. She barely gave them much attention because something told her it wasn't a good idea. Maybe even that Sylas wasn't a good idea at all. Then she laughed at that thought as she pressed forward. He had been so gentle with her. Yet...
His trials. It made no sense.
Enough about that. Enough dwelling about her duel with Sylas. As far as she was concerned, he didn't hurt her, which was probably a mercy.
It was around this time that she almost bumped right into Iliana. She stopped short of doing so and smiled brightly, "I guess everyone is spending time out here today." Then she looked the girl over and just passed her shoulders as if expecting someone else, "Where are Ethan and Heath?" Not that she meant Iliana had to have guardians all day, only that it was unusual for them not to be around.
Mount Olympus turned out far more beautiful than she could imagine, especially the gardens that occupied the realm in which Aphrodite had the pleasure to rule for herself. So many people tended the gardens for the Goddess in order to honor the beauty, love, passion, and kindness she had shown them over the centuries. Alex made her way inside a dome-roofed temple. "While your brother finishes his King training for the day, I want you to write letters." The Goddess began to explain the second Alex had arrived. Only it wasn't Aphrodite, it was Hecate. Alex's brows furrowed. "I want you to write everything about what has made you smile, laugh, cry, scared. Everything you can think of, even what you are grateful for."
"Okay, but... how will this help me to--"
"--Trust me. Just burn the letter of negatives. Every single one of them. I then want you to place the positive ones into a bottle before setting it into the water. I shall return shortly." without another word she walks away, leaving Zeus' daughter kneeling at the beautiful central water fountain. Around its base blooming in all colors, were sweet-scented flora, and the amber warm glow from the candles scattered around the room. Alex smiled as she closed her eyes and took a slow deep breath, relaxing her shoulders, before opening her eyes. Sitting at the base of the fountain on a flat gray stone were blank parchments and a quill. Alex unraveled the first one and took ahold of the quill in her dominant right hand while searching for the ink pot. Her brows furrowed for the second time as she brought the Quills nib up to eye level. It began to sparkle with golden specs. Of course, it was magical.
"Okay, so... negativity first." She swallowed firmly, already not wanting to revisit that section of her memories, but with Hecate involved, surely it would work out in the end. There was no other witch like her, and if her Father trusted her, then Alex could too. Alex pressed the quill's nib down, the golden ink etching into the parchment as she wrote. She did her best to write everything down that she could remember, before holding the corner of the paper to one of the flames of the candles, and carefully tossing it onto the stone where it burned away.
"Now one more task." Hacate waved her hand, causing purple smoke to collect the burnt pieces, which were then placed into the fountain. Hecate sat reading a letter she had received from Zeus while Alex began the next task.
She was just placing the positivity letter into the bottle when Hecate had finished reading. "Good, now place it into the fountain water."
Alex follows her orders. She watched as it bobbed gently for a few seconds before a golden glow like the quill's swirled around the bottle, its light reflecting back into her eyes.
"I knew what cure you needed for that anger of yours..." Alex turned her gaze toward the Goddess. "sadly it doesn't work on Gods." There were a few in mind she could think of who needed it - Zeus, Ares, Poseidon, and Hades for starters. Even herself at times.
Alex rose to her feet. "...Thank you."
Hecate smiled. "You're quite welcome, though it wasn't entirely your fault. You might still lose your temper from time to time, that's only natural for mortals, but you will have better control. You could have killed so many, Alex. Now, drink." Hecate motioned her head toward the bottle that remained floating in mid air.
Alex took a hold of the bottle, swallowing the liquid that felt warm against her throat.
It had only been a couple of days or so at camp, but oddly, time moved differently in Mount Olympus. It had been at least a month or two, but it felt like years. "Did... did father consider my wish?"
Hecate nodded. "He did... and he's agreed to let you both go back. Are you absolutely sure you want to?" Alex nodded "Alright. Go and fetch your brother then, and good luck." With a huge excited grin, Alex raced off towards the main hall.
Image Alex came running into the hall, causing Ajax to stand up from where he was sitting with Ares and Zeus. "Everything okay?" she couldn't be harmed here which had given him a break from being big brother, but part of him was always still ready just in case.
While slightly out of breath, she nodded briefly toward her brother before she turned to speak to their father. "Is it true? are you giving us permission to go back?"
Ajax turned his head to also look at their father who nodded from where he was sitting beside Ares. Alex almost squealed with the excitement she felt. Ajax, however, remained stoic. He was in two minds with himself - part of him wanted to go back, but the other part was unwilling to, knowing that Andy would now be official with Mason. It had been months for the Valises, but seeing those two together, knowing that he had failed her, bugged him. She would have made a remarkable Queen. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, but the question should be, Are you?"
"I guess we'll see."
Zeus stood up, Ares following his lead. "I am always here when you need me." He hugs them both. "Now go, before I change my mind." both of his children smiled before they left the hall.
"They'll be fine this year. You'll see." Ares was hopeful, even if his king felt less.
"I truly hope so.." He stood there as he watched them both stand at the edge of the clouds. Ajax took his little sister's hand, both smiling together before they took a dive towards Earth.
The air whistled passed their ears as they fell more than a hundred feet at lightning speed, and soon enough their feet landed safely and firmly on the ground, right in front of their cabin. "I can't believe that we're actually back... it feels like it's been years, And.. and the camp... it looks no different. I can't wait until everyone sees us. I feel like going down there and just--"
"--Alright calm down, and slow down." He chuckled. No doubt she'd be bouncing off the trees if she could. "I'm guessing they'll be heading to bed soon anyway, so that gives us enough time to settle back in before tomorrow."
Alex squealed. "Oh my god it's going to be AWESOME! the look on their faces, all of them... especially Mason's." Alex chuckled, then joined her brother who placed himself down on the hill overlooking the rest of the camp. The dining hall was still open by the looks of it since the lights were on. "You're worried, aren't you?"
Ajax chewed the inside of his cheek and nodded.
Image
"It'll be fine.. you got me at least. You know, your most favorite person in the world."
"I wouldn't go that far."
"HEY! rude.." she playfully nudged into him, throwing her shoulder at him, causing him to laugh.
"Alright, let's call it a night for now." Ajax stood up first and helped his little sister up before she followed him into the cabin.
The creature was the least caring companion and listener out, chirping over him at times, other times hopping around with his back to Daniel. He wasn't sure if being treated as such a lack of threat was insulting or a compliment, but he wasn't going to tolerate rudeness. Not beyond what he already had anyway. As he got up, he saw something plummet from the skies...no the shadows looked to be diving, in control of their journey. Daniel stood to attention wondering briefly if the shapes were friend or foe, while typically friends came from above and enemies below, Daniel didn't like to be small-minded about things. And dying really put a spin on a couple of matters.
Daniel raised a hand, "ευρίσκω" he said. He forfeited his peak and hurried down, damning the paths for the directest route of these visitors' landing. His legs started to burn and chest heave as he raced through the wilderness and green of camp, leaping over vegetation and otherwise pushing it out of his way to get there ASAP. And in the final brush past the treeline in the clearing...there was a cabin and two demigods arm-in-arm approaching the front door. Daniel immediately had two options: one was an outburst. A whole "what the hell guys, you were just gone then we all thought you weren't coming back", the other, a nice little prank welcome back. Which they were deserving of. Daniel waved a hand over his face, giving himself some facial hair, but kept it neat and maintained. Next, he aimed at the cabin, making it littered in dust and cobwebs, with assortments scattered like it had been abandoned and scouted long ago. He even gave the door a little jar feeling for untended hinges.
He thought about getting a walking stick and turning himself grey, but he knew that'd be a bit too far out the realm of believability for the Zeus kids. Once the Valises saw the scene and had a little time to gasp and 'wtf' at their new conditioned cabin, Daniel approached slipping through the front door then knocked on the nearest wall to announce himself. "Hi guys. Long time no see." Daniel kept his signature beam.
Daniel looked around the dirty cabin like he was seeing it for the first time- technically he was seeing his own handy work from the inside for the first time with them, making minimal acting required. It was just less shock factor to him. "Like I said, its been a while," he said while resuming to study the cabin as he slid a finger along the dusty table making one clear mark. He brushed his fingers together to rid the mess and feeling on his index, mentally patting himself on the back for his thorough illusion and conjuration blend. "A year or two? Anyway camp's been through hell since you left. Not many things are the same. Stables are gone, Wesley married, not Trinity though, had a couple of wars, the beach is guarded by an unkillable creature that's impervious to powers and sword. Annd...yeah." he shrugged.
It was possible during their time in Olympus they missed that much, they nearly did in reality just not the certain events Daniel rattled off. At the moment it was important the message got across all the same that they missed things. Life events and preventable things that they really should have stuck with like everyone else.
"Time really does travel differently in Mount Olympus, huh? They're slower, guess that's why they're gods and stay youthful, and can oversee so much. While we're just...a speed track." Saying anything with enough confidence and conviction could cause a few head scratches. Hecate did say it's possible for a big time difference between the worlds once to him.
"But!" he clapped his hands together. "I should let you two settle in for bed. It's been a big journey no doubt. It's good to have you both back."
Daniel left the siblings, and only once down the stairs, did he literally snap his fingers for things to return to normal. His slightly aged face, the cabin's pristine condition. His work was done as long as the pair had a little think. Which they might not, in which case, as long as they felt mild discomfort with their cabin.
Their feet had just crossed the threshold when Ajax paused in the hallway. Alex had almost walked into the back of him. She followed his gaze and looked at what he was looking at. "What the..." they hadn't been gone that long, so why did it look like it had been left for years. "It was spotless!"
"Hi guys. Long time no see."
Ajax's shoulder's dropped with a sigh as he playfully rolled his eyes and turned around to greet the familiar voice. Now it made sense.
He took a glance at his sister. She was beaming with excitement. "Like I said, it's been a while. A year or two? Anyway, camp's been through hell since you left. Not many things are the same. Stables are gone, Wesley married, not Trinity though, had a couple of wars, the beach is guarded by an unkillable creature that's impervious to powers and sword. Annd...yeah." he shrugged.
"You're kidding, right?" Ajax never knew when to take him seriously at times. There was no way in hell that Wes would ever marry someone else other than the blonde warrior. Those two were inseparable. His head began to drift off towards Andy, which he quickly deflected. "Because I--"
"Yes, he is." Alex chuckled.
Ajax sighed with relief.
"I should let you two settle in for bed. It's been a big journey no doubt. It's good to have you both back."
"Thanks. It means a lot to the both of us that you came to welcome us back. I don't know how many others will do the same. And um..." He pointed his thumb back to the cabin. "please," he laughed. "I really don't fancy cleaning that mess up before bed, so..." but Daniel was heading off already. "Da--I...okay." he nodded a couple of times, raising his thumb in the air while he wandered inside. Thankfully Daniel fixed it up before Ajax got started with the dusting.
"Wait! Daniel!" Alex called out to him, Quickly catching up. She stood there for a second until she flung her arms around him, and buried her face into his shoulder as she just held him in silence for a moment. She stepped back a little, her hands holding the tops of his arms, looking him over. "You look..." good. You look good. - Is what she wanted to say. "different. In a good way, of course. I... I didn't expect you to be the first to show up. But I'm glad you did."
He was happy she understood the reason he had to end the entangled little spell of physical affection. She was always understanding and patient, maybe more than he deserved. But they were going in the right direction...
"I planned on showering," she said as far as plans for the rest of the night went. She even gave herself a once over, causing Mason to smile a little. No matter how greasy or dirty she felt, he still admired her. It was bizarre that now even his own feelings to himself were more open and less repressed.
"Other than that, I have no plans. What about you?"
Mason shrugged looking out of the cabin with nonchalance. "I don't know. Likely nothing. Though I ate a bit of dirt today so should probably add a shower to my schedule too." The duel he was involved in did bring him to the ground. And it wouldn't hurt to be clean in honesty.
"You can stay... If you want." Andy offered eventually, making Mason smile again.
His thumb stroked over her hand. "Was it really that hard to muster up the courage?" But maybe now wasn't the time to mock since confused feelings and inner battles were all too valid in the territory they were walking. "I really want to," he answered instead. "As long as you're absolutely fine with it." He scanned her face for signs of hesitance or backtracking. It'd hurt but like her, he'd try to understand.
Too afraid to miss an opportunity or prompt an out, Mason didn't want to leave to do something as simple as shower in his own cabin. "Okay, how about...you have a shower first. Ladies first and all plus your own cabin...then I'll have one after you. Then we can talk a little more if you want and cuddle. Or I can sit all the way over there." He gestured to the couch, obviously dramatising the distance between the couch and bed but truthfully he didn't mind where he ended up sleeping. Andy's cabin itself was a bonus.
He shifted out the way for Andy to get up and head to the bathroom.
It might not have been that long since sitting in the room alone and it was something he was used to but time felt slow. He could hear the water going and it kept running with no end in sight, seeming to increasingly tempt Mason to make a bold move and join her. Mason wanted to...gods how he wanted to, but he had to summon strength to be patient and wait where he was. Not be sexually aggressive. He knew that scared some people or brought about questions in the relationship and he wasn't risking it with Andy. At least it was better not to, he thought. But images flashed in his mind of the water caressing her bare body and- he wasn't doing any favors for himself. Mason tried to fight thinking about what was happening on the other side of a wall.
As it got increasingly difficult, the water finally shut off. Andy eventually emerged and Mason rose to his feet and smiled, walking by her, needing a quick escape. "I'm dying for one," he tried to justify as they swapped rooms. He breathed a sigh of relief then peeled his clothes off leaving them in a pile for now before turning on the water and stepping under the stream. With it hopefully it washed away the stress and temptation of this new scenario he was in with Andy. At least he liked to imagine it did.
While needed and refreshing, giving him a second wind of energy he was aware it wasn't his resource to use. He kept the shower brief, shut off the water then dried himself off quickly. It didn't take long to realize he had no fresh clothes. His old ones weren't too dirty but it felt a little weird. He wrapped the towel around his waist and came out of the bathroom. "You awake still? I've got to do a streak across camp. Unless you sleep nude and am okay with me doing the same?" Mason smirked, doubting it. "No one's between our cabins anyway." It wasn't ideal still but the odds of being caught between their cabins when no one resided there was slim. Especially since he could slink into shadows.
He leaned over Andy, hesitated on where he wanted to kiss her for a moment then kissed her head.
Alex called out halting him. Maybe this could be it? The realization. She hurried to catch up to him and simply stood in front of him. Then her arms attacked, and he was pulled into an embrace. "Jeezus" His arms came around her slowly, hugging her back lightly compared to her grip on him.
She stepped back when she was ready, still holding him as she looked him over. A look he didn't like all too much. He felt like he should be more buff or seriously developed or changed when he hadn't at all...not that he noticed anyway. Sure enough, that's what began to come out of her mouth "You look..." here it comes "different. In a good way, of course. I... I didn't expect you to be the first to show up. But I'm glad you did."
"Oh," slipped out. That wasn't as bad as he thought, but he wasn't sure what she meant. As long as it was good different he supposed. Then it was kind of open to interpretation of not being the first person she expected to show up. He shrugged it off. "Well I mean I was on the cliff just talking to myself and a bird but he didn't listen cause...not Artemis's kid you know? Then I saw you two coming down and thought I'd check it out. Didn't know if you were friend or foe or another trial for us."
With the word said it became apparent what he did had essentially no weight or meaning to the Valises. Did he have to spell it out for them? Daniel glanced at Ajax's cabin, hoping he'd come out too because their leader...or ex-leader, was the one that needed to receive the news. He didn't want them going in blind. Camp was rocky and hostile enough and lots of people felt cheated or done wrong by the Valises, indirectly or otherwise. He gestured for a walk leading them to Alex's cabin."I'm happy to see you both again. I am. But camp's been through a lot." He took a seat on one her steps. "It hasn't been as long as I said obviously but...things have changed. People might've changed. We were told you weren't returning and we've been pushed to the limit in the past 48 hours, exposing our very souls and fears to everyone. Mom made the gateway for that of course..." he laughed humorlessly. "Anyway I just don't want you to expect to be greeted back with open arms. You both left without a word. You missed out on the many tests the gods put us through while you were on vacation." Daniel immediately held up his hands. "Maybe not the exact case, but we don't know that. All we know is the golden demigods of camp weren't there for it or the spars. Even I get sick of it Alex," he confessed softly.
It wasn't the welcome back Daniel ever envisioned himself giving anyone in his timeline, or what Alex might've deserved. Like maybe he could've given her the night to settle in at least, but sometimes she was an early bird. It was better him now than someone else in the morning telling her how they really felt.
"Anyway, I'm glad you're not aliens come to probe us or kill us." He bumped her playfully with a smile then rose to his feet. Before he left though he popped up a finger. "Who did you think was going to show up first? Because...I host all the amazing parties so if anyone was going to walk by to highjack or ransack your cabins, it'd be me." Then again he could see the likes of Duke walking by to see the odds of return or pay memory to the Valises in a way when he was feeling solemn. Or maybe he'd walk by to try figure out what to do with all the timber and wasted resources.
Either way, no matter what she hoped or expected, he was the first to show up realistically. "Sleep well. I've got a lady of Apollo to catch." He twiddled his fingers and left.
Daniel's casual walk did turn into a bit of a pace in hopes of finding someone. It felt too early to turn in but it appeared most demigods had already packed up for the night or were off the main path already trailing to their cabins or last activity of the day. Come on he wanted to find someone...anyone...preferably brunette, gorgeous, gentle featured, a warm and winning contagious smile. At last, three females were in sight, otherwise men that needed to consider haircuts and shape was a slight concern. Daniel broke into a jog. "Hey, wait up." Luckily, the people he did end up overtaking to see who they were was no other than Cherise. With Nelly and Iliana.
"Hi," he stated with a puff of relief. "I've been looking for you. How-" his eyes shot briefly to Nelly and Iliana. "how are you?" For some reason he managed not to facepalm or throw his head into the nearest tree. "I haven't seen you since Sylas. The duel-battle token-y thing I mean." He dug through his pocket to pull out his unused one, as if they could forget what battle he referred to.
Daniel nodded to Nelly next. "You weren't my meant to be opponent were you? I kind of miss flexing my powers."
On point Daniel, focus! Enough tip-toeing! He only wished the others weren't flanking Cherise which could make this ten times more humiliating. "Did you want a sleep over? I've got popcorn, Netflix, we could make it a girls night." Why was he reducing himself to the stereotype of a gay best friend!? And yes, he just invited the daughter of Hermes and daughter of Demeter, making it a group thing. Subconsciously as far as his brain worked, it'd soften the rejection blow if he made it a group thing rather than one embarrassing no from the daughter of Apollo. It wasn't his intention but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a mini sleep over and make Iliana and Nelly included in a social event/sleep over if they wanted. Get them out of their own cabins...free food and entertainment.
All that stemmed and evolved from just wanting to be close and cuddle Cherise.
