Alex was sitting behind the Hades dorm reading like she normally did right before breakfast. Alex had only arrived at Camp Half-Blood about a month ago, much later in life than most of the other demigods. And their power showed it. Her skill level was absolutely laughable compared to these kids.

Since she came to camp Alex had been training as much as she could, trying to fill the power gap between her and the other campers quickly. Although she improved a lot already she could still be considered a joke to her peers. She was still just a small girl with minimal training in fighting and no social graces. This wasn't exactly the perfect mixture for making friends with demigods. So far she only had limited conversation with the others and when opportunity struck to be social she chickened out and shadow traveled away before anyone could see her. Ah, got to love shadow travel. It makes running away from problems at least five times easier.

Alex's train of thought was interrupted by the centaurs voice rilling the campers for breakfast. She got up and slowly made her way to the and sat herself down at the Hades table, she didn't have any siblings at the camp so she ate her meals solo. Not that it really bothered Alex, she was content with people watching.

((OCC: sorry if its kind of a lame start I just wanted to give you an opening to work with.))

Joe woke up around 6 am to the sound of his alarm. He sat up and looked out his bunk. He saw his other sibling snoring softly in their bunks as he stretched. He was always the first one up he took it upon himself to be at the forge early so that he could fire it up and have a head start on his projects early and so when his siblings or anyone else for that matter got there the forge would be hot and ready to go. He grabbed his jacket and stepped outside into the chilly morning air.

He walked across the large field that separated the cabins from the forge and he began the rather slow process of getting the forge hot and ready. After about an hour he stood at his station his tool-belt wrapped around his waste buckled tightly. It was a gift from his father the belt would give him any tool he needed as needed. As he pounded away the metal he was shaping into a small dagger for a friend of his in Athena cabin he reached in and grabbed a hunk of metal to add to the sword. Finally around 8 am Joe had finished the blade portion of the sword and saw the rest of his cabin heading towards the breakfast pavilion.

Joe put the sword in a safe that was secured with an eye lock, a hand-print lock, and finally a voice lock. This made it so that no children of hermes could break in and steal what he was working on. He washed his hands quickly in the sink and ran toward the pavilion where he ran into Chiron. "oh hey chiron sorry I'm late I was just working in the forge" he said. The Centaur nodded "joe I actually was hoping you could do me a favor" He said

"of course anything Chiron" Joe said. "Well I need you to sit with Alex at the Hades table for breakfast today and get her outfitted with a weapon, we have capture the flag tonight its ares cabin and Hephaestus cabin for team captains tonight so I thought she could fight with you guys." he said

Joe nodded I can do that no problem Chiron" joe said as he walked to the table and grabbed a plate filling it up and finally burned part of it for his father. He then walked over to Alex and sat down across from her " hi there alex" he said with a smile.

Alex was absentmindedly rolling a grape around of her plate with her fork when she heard a voice next to her. She looked up and saw the son of Hephaestus smiling at her. "Oh! Uh..hey Joe.." She replied, a light blush coming to her face as brushed a lock of black hair behind her ear.

Alex had only talked to Joe a few times before during training or around the forge. He pretty popular around Camp Half-Blood and as far as she knew he seemed like a nice guy. "Um...did you need something?" As soon as the words her mouth she realized they sound much colder than she had intended. 'Aw crap' She thought. This always tended to happen when she tried to be part of a conversation. She really didn't mean it but coming across as friendly just didn't seem like like something children of Hades excelled at.

Joe smiled and stabbed his for into some eggs and took a bite. "well I don't need anything, you're gonna need something for tonight." JOe said "chiron wants me to get you outfitted for capture the flag tonight because you are on team Hephaestus" He said. "so as soon as we're done eating we'lll head down to the forge and get you set up and get some basic dtraining in" He said as picked up his empty goblet "milk please" he said to it and it filled up with milk.

Joe finished his plate "do you have any idea what kind of weapon you might want or what kind of armor you're gonna need?" Joe asked as he eyed her up and down thinking about what kind of weapon might be too light, or too heavy. Overall trying to get a read on what kind of armor or weapon to make her.

For a moment, Alex's dark eyes lit up. "Really? I'm...on your team?" She asked with a soft, half smile coming to her face. It would be the first time she'd ever be a part of capture the flag and she'd be lying if she said it wasn't exciting. Even better, she was going to play and the Hephaestus team instead of with the Ares kids. The children of the God of war weren't exactly the friendliest bunch. She had heard all about their camp "initiations" but luckily for her she had been spared. Never before had she been so grateful for being practically invisible to people. Oh, and being able to shadow travel away from unnecessarily violent situations also helped.

The spark in her eyes flicker out just as quickly as it arouse when she realized something. 'Wait...That means I'm going to be against the Ares kids!?' A feeling of nervousness hit her gut like someone threw a punch at her. Children of Ares might not be pretty but they were strong. Even though she was the daughter of one of the big three and supposed to be one of strongest demigods, at this point she was pretty much sure even a few of the Aphrodite kids could kick her ass. But this time she couldn't just shadow travel away from a fight. This time she would have a team counting on her even if they didn't expect much. 'Its okay..' She tried to reassure herself. 'Its just a game . You can do this! Its time to prove your place here!'

Alex was so deep in thought thinking of Joe's question that she didn't even notice him looking at her. "A...a sword I think...? Or maybe a shield?" She said with a tad of uncertainty. So far, swords were about the only weapons that felt right to her. And, well, shields were always good for not getting speared rival campers. She looked up at him with a determined expression. "I do whatever the team needs me too."

"great don't worry too much we have athena team planning for us and the hermes kids as scouts" Joe said as he moved his plate to the side. "great a shield and sword" he said "I can do those in my sleep now what kind of armor, heavy?, medium or light?" he asked
"I wear heavy you'll want that if you're gonna fight in the thick of the action and if you carry a heavy weapon. Medium works good for fighting 1 on 1 it lets you maneuver well, and light is for going rogue with small weapons lets you move much faster and move silently." Joe said as he explained the different kinds of armor.

Joe thought to what things he could to customize the armor and the sword makiing it more her own he would talk about that later when he got what kind of armor. "do you know how to use you powers?" he asked

"Light armor!" She answered immediately. Even without using her powers lurking in the shadows was like second nature to her. She could pass right by someone and they wouldn't even know she was there. That ability had its positives and negatives but this time it would come in handy. Alex couldn't help but remember how back in kindergarden she was a hide and seek master. Capture the flag would be kind of like that...except with deadly weapons and super powerful opponents.

Alex hesitated a bit before answering his next question. "Um,yeah, of course." Well, that was partially true. She a child of Hades, she was able to communicate with the dead and raise corpses and use them to her will but so far she has only tried it on dead animals. Shadow travel and manipulation came easy to her, although she normally uses it defensively. As far as her she geokinesis skills, she could levitate rocks stuff but that was about it at the moment. But Alex figured she didn't need to worry him with details. She'd figure it out on the way.

Joe nodded "well then if you're done eating lets head to the forge I can get some armor started for you quickly heck I can get you started and I'll show you how to make it makes it so much cooler" he said as he grabbed his plate and walked it up to the dish bin and put my plates in, and I walk over back to you table. "ready to go?" he said as he grabbed the toolbelt he had taken off when he came in and put it back on.

"Yeah...sure." Alex hoped the blush she felt coming on didn't she but with her pale skin any hint of color was pretty obvious. She put her head down and let her hair hide some of her face as she followed him towards the forge. A small smile crept onto her face. Its not like it was a big deal or anything but it was the first time hanging out with someone in a longtime. Besides, she always thought it was cool to watch the Hephaestus kid's working.

Joe smiled and walked with her across the grassy lawn and showed her the forge. "welcome to the forge" Joe said as he waved his hand showing off the place he felt most at home. "I'll get you started on making making some light armor and the lightest stuff we have here would be leather armor and its fairly simple to make." he said as he reached into a nearby drawer and pulled out a long sheet of leather. Joe reached towards his toolbelt and said "tape mesure"and it sprung up and he measured her from her hips to her neck. "mind if I measure around you waist?" he asked kindly. He didnt want to measure with out asking for fear of making her feel uncomfortable.
