Raven stood away from the crowds in the rose garden of Decker's mansion - where the wedding reception was being held - with an untouched glass of champagne in her hands (she had just taken it to be polite. She had never touched a drop of alcohol and she wasn't about to start now.) Her domestic had styled her light blonde hair to fall in long, natural-looking waves around her face and dressed her in a sleeveless pale pink dress which came down to her knees, and had a round neckline and a thin black belt around the waist. Her makeup was done in a similar colour scheme: pale pink eyeshadow reaching up to her eyebrows and blending down into the smoky black which framed her eyes - which were still an ultra-vibrant blue, even in the dim light of the candles which were dotted around on various tables and attached in complicated patterns around the trees and multiple other fixtures that the garden held. Her domestic had left her face clear of any other makeup, stating that 'That blush gives your face all the colour it needs' and she was correct. Raven's cheeks were naturally flushed to match the colour of her dress and eyeshadow, due to the absolute terror and nervousness she felt looking around at these masses of people come to celebrate the Governor's new brides.
She redirected her gaze down, away from the crowd, to her hand and more specifically, her new wedding ring. A small, silver thing to fit her slim finger, with an ornate design of twisting vines embossed on the surface. It was beautiful...but meaningless. The shackle that bound her to this new life.

Decker watched as his lovely bride slowly smiled at him. He rose from his seat. His heart was pounding as he approached her. He hoped he had the right words to say. He was raised to be Governer, Speeches was his life but he didn't know what to say to a woman as beautiful as she was. She had an air about her he found haunting. He slipped a rose from the bouquet. "This is for you," He said watching her eyes and he bowed to kiss her hand. "I want to thank you for having me." He said with a nervous smile.

Lacey grabbed a glass of champagne and took a sip, then groaned in disgust. "Gross," she mumbled under her breath. She set the glass down on an empty table, hoping no one would notice. A few guests came up to her, and she smiled and chatted with them, showing them her ring and gushing along with them. She glanced over at her new husband handing another bride a rose, and a pang of jealousy struck her. Here they were, married, and she hadn't even said a word to the guy. She began walking toward the general direction of her new husband and, well, sister wife (for lack of a better word), hoping to make herself noticed.

Decker noticed his youngest wife approach him. He smiled at her largely. She was adorable, her large blue eyes filled with happiness and she seemed thrilled to be here. He handed her a rose and kissed her hand. "This is for you as well, I'd to thank you for having me." He said. "AndI want you to know. All of you acutally, that I would never force into anything you are not ready for." He said. Her age bothered him. He was an old soul. Even he was raised in a world where the young died young. He felt she was still too young.

Shelby Peters

Shelby was escorted to the reception area, but the ladies made it look like they were just asking her about her new life in Mr. Delaney's mansion. Shelby's mind burned with furious thoughts she wanted to scream out in frustration. Once they got to the reception hall the ladies seemed to disappear but she knew she was being watched, she could feel it. A couple approached her almost immediately and started rambling on about how lucky she was and how beautiful she looked. Then finally they asked her a question "Are you excited to be married off to such a wonderful man?" The couple had a cheesy smile plastered on their face and Shelby wanted to scream "NO I'M NOT EXCITED TO BE MARRIED TO A PERVERT, AND I'M EVEN LESS EXCITED THAT HE HAS MY SISTER AS COMPENSATION IN THIS TWIST OF EVENTS." but she put on the best smile she could muster, which isn't saying much, and nodded. "Yeah, I mean of course" the couple looked at her oddly and after a few moments of awkward silence, they left.

Again, Shelby was met by another woman. Then another man, a child, another couple, an older gentlemen, and so on. They all seemed to be so excited for her, but they looked at her like they pitied her. Like Decker Delaney did her a favor by pulling her off the streets and giving her the 'life of luxury'. She looked around until she found Decker. He was talking to two of his other brides and Shelby rolled her eyes. 'Trying to win his favor.' she thought. 'Well i'm sure as hell not going to show him any favor'

Raven took the rose between her fingers as she set her glass down on the edge of one of the many buffet tables.
"Thank you..." she said, keeping up the shy smile on her face, her voice barely above a soft whisper. Then, as an afterthought she added "Governor Decker..." She felt that, as her husband, she shouldn't address him by such a formal title, but he was still a stranger to her. This was the first time they'd spoken - apart from when he read out his vows and she nodded silently along - and any term of endearment she would have hoped to call a true, consensual husband would just feel wrong in this situation...
Her heavily made-up eyes widened ever so slightly as soon as he bent his head to kiss her hand, and as soon as his lips came into contact with her skin, she felt another rush of flutters in the pit of her stomach as well as the sudden pounding in her chest and the fire she felt in her cheeks.
She glanced at her sister wife when she approached and felt her smile fade and her heart sink. She was too young for this...Thinking about what she was actually doing here as a wife forced some of that earlier resentment for Decker to return, even though she was almost sure he had no real part in this...

Raven watched Decker walk away with a frown still playing at her lips, and - what was that she felt deep in her chest, disappointment? And even a little tinge of jealousy when she saw him speaking to his third wife...Just a second ago, she was cursing him for taking such a young bride. Not even an hour in this man's company and she was already having conflicting feelings about him. She guessed that jealousy made a little sense, though...She wanted a husband who loved her. Exclusively. And in the very short time she was alone with Decker just then, he had treated her how she would expect a husband to treat his wife...
With a soft sight, she looked away from the two, shoving the thoughts of Decker from her mind, and took her seat at the table. She held Decker's rose out in front of her, looking down at its deep, too-vibrant petals. It seemed fake in comparison to the raw beauty of the roses growing all around her in this garden...Fake like this marriage she was in now, in comparison to the free non-forced love she once had the possibility of experiencing...
That's it. Whenever she feels any kind of affection or jealousy directed towards Decker or any of her sister wives, she would think of this rose, and the possibilities Decker Delaney robbed her of.

Lacey took a seat next to Raven, shoving down disappointment. She wished she could spend more time with the man she had just married, but supposed that was one of the many drawbacks to this polygamy. She decided to take this time to get to know one of her sister wives. She turned to Raven, smiling slightly. "Hi, I'm Lacey," she chirped happily. "I guess we'll be spending a lot of time together." She bit her lip, not sure what else to say.

Raven blinked, startled slightly by Lacey's voice, and redirected her gaze from Decker's rose to her younger sister wife.
"Raven..." she introduced herself with a small, anxious smile. She wouldn't say anymore for fear of the wrong words leaving her lips and leaving her humiliated in front of this girl who she would be spending the rest of her life living with.
There was something that bothered her about this young girl sat beside her, though. She was so happy, so chipper...As if she didn't understand what it was that was happening here. She'd been kidnapped and sold to a wealthy stranger for breeding purposes. She was quite a few years younger than Raven, yes, but surely she was old enough to understand just how sick this whole situation was...

Raven looked back down, her cheeks flushing once more. She was in no way used to compliments - quite the opposite, actually…Always expecting some form of vicious verbal abuse to be thrown at her - so in the rare events she heard them, she often questioned their sincerity. She had every reason to believe that her sister wife was trying to be a false-friend. In her eyes, Raven could be seen as an obstacle blocking her way to her husband that she was clearly already fond of…Or, on the other hand, she could simply be trying to create peace between the both of them, seeing as they would be living in such close quarters…And she couldn’t imagine this young girl being so manipulative. But still…
In the end, her own desire for a lack of conflict won over her uncertainty and she answered, redirecting her shy smile back to Lacey: “Thank you…You look beautiful too.”

"No...I haven't..." Raven answered quietly, her smile faltering slightly when she saw Lacey’s attention shift away from her. She looked back down and tried not to take it to heart, but that’s a hard thing to do when you feel like aren’t engaging enough to hold somebody’s attention. Raven knew she wasn’t engaging, or charismatic, or socially adept…But still, she felt that sting of embarrassment every time this was proven to her.
To ease the burning panic she felt in her chest, she also looked around at the many caterers carrying around foods she couldn’t even recognise on their platters, and thought that maybe she was reading too much into this. Some people are just easily distracted, it’s not that they’re bored or uninterested…She kept repeating that to herself in her mind until the panic faded.

Valentina stood towards the far end of the room, deep in conversation with a first generation couple. She held a glass of champagne in her hand, long and slim to match her figure, and was taking small, slow sips from it in every break in the conversation. She had been introduced to champagne at a young age, and had developed a taste for it over the years, so it didn't bother her too much.
Giving a small smile and running her hands through her hair as a passer-by complimented her dress, she glanced down at it and did a small twirl. The dress she was currently wearing was metallic black, figure-hugging and ended just before her knees, showing off the rest of her lower body. Strapless, of course, as those were the kind of dresses Valentina most approved of. Her domestic had dressed her in such an ensamble in order to show off what she perceived to be her best feature: her legs. Not that she minded...she looked pretty enough, and it didn't feel too exposing.
Her shoes were picked to match the dress, and were a matt black colour, with heels about four inches from the ground, and her hair was loosely curled and just left to hang as it was over her shoulders.
She knew she looked good on the outside, but...she didn't feel anywhere near as good on the inside.
It was all for show.
The smiles, the laughs, the whole image...it was all forced. And she hated it. Not that it mattered...she was stuck here now, and there was no going back.

Valentina looked down at the rose as Decker handed it to her, studying it slightly in her fingers. It was beautiful, there was no denying it...and it showed he'd tried, which was more than some of the Governors would do, as her mother had told her about. But at the same time...this was the man who'd had her kidnapped and brought here, wasn't it? And, although he seemed sincere and kind at first glance...was he any different underneath all of that? He had to be. It must be an act, like the one she was putting on herself.
But still, Valentina put on a believable smile and held the rose, glancing down as Decker kissed her hand, before giving a small curtsey herself.
"Thankyou, Governor Delaney..." She said quietly, making her voice slightly slower and at a lower volume. "And the pleasure is all mine."

Valentina made her way over to the table where her sister brides were sitting, a small smile on her face, still carrying the rose and her glass of champagne. She had to admit, she missed her life back home, but...she was looking forward to meeting the other girls she would be living with from now on. As long as they were pleasant, that is.
When she reached the table, Valentina gave a warm smile to each of her sister wives in turn, first Lacey, then Shelby, and finally, Raven. Her eyes lingered on Raven for a small moment, and she hesitated...before pulling a chair out and taking her seat across the table from her. This was the one. She knew that from that moment. This was the sister wife she would bond with most...she could sense it. She seemed so shy, so quiet...
So refreshing.

Raven lifted her head for a moment when the chair across from her was pulled back, and noticed that it was another of her sister wives occupying it. She gave her a small, nervous smile - barely meeting her eyes - before dropping her gaze again. The first wife she'd spoken to - Lacey - had seemed friendly, though she still wasn't a hundred percent sure of her motives, but she had no idea what to expect from this other bride. She looked so comfortable in this situation, with all of the stares she was receiving, with these clothes they had given her (whereas Raven fidgeted uncomfortable in them every so often) and she was so much more beautiful and graceful than her...It was already clear that between Lacey's giggly confidence, this bride's grace and her third sister wife's hard-to-get attitude, she would be the wife to fade into the background. Maybe that was a good thing...It would mean Decker would expect less from her in the way of children...but she still felt that sting of sadness at being that unloved wife who sat alone in the manor while her husband was somewhere else with one of his other brides...
There. She felt it. That jealousy...She looked back down at her hands under the table, where she was still holding the rose. Fake. Just like this marriage. she repeated to herself in her head, as Decker gave his speech.

Valentina glanced at Decker as he spoke, taking in each of the words and giving a small nod at the end of his speech. She appreciated that he wasn't trying to push her or any of the other wives...although she couldn't be sure whether that simply implied the little one - Lacey, she thought her Domestic had called her - or was genuine. Or if it was being done to keep up appearances among the other guests. With this thought, she realised that she wasn't out of the woods yet. She still had to be careful.
Pulling herself from her thoughts, Valentina then looked back at Raven, a soft smile still on her face.
"...You're very beautiful," She said quietly to her, resting her chin on her hand as she put her elbow onto the table. "Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
She liked this girl. She may be quiet, and seemingly nervous of her, but all that would change. She just needed to show Raven that she was in no way a threat.

Valentina smiled warmly.
"Raven, isn't it?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly. "I must say...you're putting every other woman in this room to shame tonight..."
She wasn't lying, at all. Deep down, looking at Raven, she felt that even she should be jealous of her...despite all of the compliments she had gotten earlier in the night from guests, and a little bit of attention from Decker Delaney himself...but for some reason, she wasn't jealous. She just felt like she wanted to know her. Something very rare for Valentina Black.

Putting on a brave face when she heard Decker's words, Valentina forced a smile, looking away from Raven and flicked her hair over her shoulder.
"Well...for me, there's not much to tell, honestly...my parents are first generations, so...I suppose that's something...I was raised by them until I was seventeen, and, now...well...here I am..."
A part of her was almost certain that he must know how each of his brides had gotten here...but another small part of her thought otherwise, so for her safety, she decided she would stay quiet about how she'd actually got here. Plus, if he did know...she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of her repeating it.

Valentina sighed silently under her breath, taking another small sip of champagne.
"Well..." She began, glancing around. "I like makeup, and I like the colour purple. I like people who can easily keep up an interesting conversation, and people who're quiet and reserved...because they're usually the most interesting kind of person to get to know." With that she glanced at Raven, before looking back at Decker. "I like reading, I like keeping healthy...I like having someone kiss me and mean it. I like fireworks, and summer, and pretty earrings and other types of jewellery. I like quiet, one-on-one conversation, and I like people who are sincere. I like men who respect women and don't treat them like slabs of meat. I like dressing up, I like water, and I like people to tell me I'm pretty." She gave a slight smile as she named the different things from the top of her head. "The last one makes me sound conceited, but I don't mean it in that way. Is that enough information?"

Valentina watched Decker, Raven, Lacey and Shelby, a small smile on her face, just simply staying quiet and enjoying the conversation. Funnily enough, it felt like...
Like they were all some sort of family...
She guessed that, in some sense, they were...but, in that moment, things didn't seem so bad.
They'd probably get worse, but...right now, they were okay, and none of them seemed to hate her. Which was a good thing.

Valentina looked at Shelby, her expression slightly confused. She knew this girl was trying to hide something, but she had absolutely no idea what.
Looking back at Decker, she huffed quietly. She wished she'd never made the comment about liking being called pretty. Now, he would think that was all she cared about.
Frankly, it was nothing compared to some of the other things that were important to her. And for yet another time that night, Valentina glanced over at Raven.
See, that was a girl who wanted affection. That was a girl who needed a man to cherish and respect her. To love her.
Looking back at Lacey, she saw a young girl who didn't want marriage, per say...just the ability to have fun and make friends. And Shelby...well...she suspected that Shelby just hated Decker's guts.
Not wanting to make a huge fuss over what Decker was completely overlooking, she would stay quiet. But she desperately hoped things would start looking up for the shy little thing sitting opposite her. And fast.

Raven looked back down with the smile still on her face when Decker had finished talking to her. When he mentioned taking her out to see his garden, she felt a small rush of excitement, but also nausea. The rose. The rose. Think of the rose. she repeated in her head, gently twisting the stem of it between her fingers. She probably knew it was all futile, though...Because whenever she didn't force herself to think back to that fake beauty, she became caught up in the romance; in the idea of being loved and cherished by this wealthy, good-looking, kind man...But it would never be love, would it? How could it be? He has three other brides, each more beautiful and confident than her. Granted, one of them was a child. But still...If he were to love any of them, really love, she would definitely not be his final choice. She doubted she'd even cross his mind.
She lifted her eyes occasionally to the other brides that were speaking, but she was too lost in her own mind to register most of what they were saying, but her head lifted entirely when Shelby left the table. Maybe she'd be the one he falls for...Men always seem to chase after the challenge, don't they? But she truly seemed to hate him, so if he did, that love would be unrequited.
No, the one he'd most likely be happy with is Valentina. She was beautiful beyond words, with poise and confidence. Any man would fall for her...And she doesn't have that level of hatred for Decker as Shelby has, so of course it'll be her.
With an inaudible sigh, Raven dropped her gaze back down to her lap.

((Okay, I'm back. Let's do this. :D ))

Raven quickly looked up at Decker when she felt his touch, an involuntary bright-pink flush rising to her cheeks yet again.
"Y-yeah..." she stuttered quietly, giving her trademark smile to her husband. "I'm just...not that comfortable with crowds..." she explained. A half-truth. She wasn't comfortable with crowds. Masses of people terrified her beyond words, and that was half of the reason for her nerves...But she would never say the other half of the reason out loud, to anyone. Especially not Decker.

Valentina looked at Raven and Decker, the smile on her face slowly returning, and slowly stood up.
"Well...I'm terribly sorry to disappoint you all, but...right now, I'm feeling a little under the weather...just slightly flushed. So...I think I'm just going to go freshen up in the ladies room, and then take a little walk around the garden to clear my head." She said softly, gently picking up the rose Decker had given her and holding it down at her side. Decker and Raven seemed to be having a little bit of a moment, and...she was in no mood to stick around and prevent it from happening. "Please, continue your conversations, and I shouldn't be too long."
The last part was a lie, but it was a lie told for a beneficial reason. So...it couldn't be particularly harmful.
