“I can’t understand this…why is she still here, again?!”
Personality: Kivan is, if possible, less talkative than his sister. He prefers to glare down others, rather than talk his way through things. He can be a bit better around friends, but otherwise he feels he only has one purpose in attending the school: keeping Amber as far as possible from the monsters. He barely trusts other humans, let alone those monsters; he barely tolerates the fact that she’s so close to a group, especially the werewolf. He isn’t one to run from a fight, but won’t lose his head in a fight. If he’s in a fight, he’s guaranteed himself that he’s going to win…although he’s a little hesitant about the monsters.
The only things he fears at this point is something happening to Amber, and her friends. They seem to get her into too much trouble, he figures. He can’t stand the idea that there is someone that could beat him in a fight, and still doesn’t accept that fact. Judging from the way he acts, it doesn’t seem like he actually likes much, and he would never admit to liking anything other than a good fight. However, what he won’t say is that he actually likes having peace and quiet, and time to himself, often to read history books.
Equipment: Kivan doesn’t keep much on him. He has his textbooks, spare paper, and pencils and pens; the normal stuff a human carries in their backpack. However, he also keeps a small knife on him, just in case…not that it would really do him any good.
Kivan has had practice in fist fighting, mostly on his own, or making up his own reasons to fight someone away from his sister. That, and being unusually perceptive, gained mostly from keeping an eye on anyone that even looks at his sister.
History: Kivan grew up with his parents and younger sister. Most of his time growing up was spent watching over his younger sister, and looking up to his father, who was in the military, but is now retired. For the most part, the only trouble he ever got into growing up was getting into fights, usually caused by others teasing Amber when they were little.
He never seemed to grow out of keeping an eye on her, even when he had his own life to live; his own friends to hang out with. This changed when she was sent to Carnes, instead of the high school he had been going to, like he had thought. He quickly became paranoid about her safety, and soon picked up a habit of calling every month…then every week…and soon enough, every day, despite her annoyance.
He didn’t understand anything until the summer after, when she suddenly seemed to be interested in camping on her own. While their parents did trust her on her own, they didn’t trust others, and thought she needed someone to watch over her. He quickly found that she wasn’t actually camping alone, and had thought about telling their parents when he got the chance; he hardly thought camping with some boy she wasn’t related to was appropriate. But, as he found out, the boy she was out camping with, Aiden, was a werewolf.
Amber did her best to explain everything she could, and made him promise not to tell their parents, but that didn’t mean he trusted him. As soon as he could, he talked his parents into transferring him into her school, instead. This way, he could keep a better eye on everything, especially his sister. Who knew what trouble she was going to get into? His main concern, however, isn’t all the other monsters; no, the biggest problem he has is the worry that one day she won’t be able to control the beast. And what happens then? He didn’t even want to think about it! Now he only hopes to separate the two…or, if at all possible, separate her from all the monsters she’s been going to school with.
