Amber Stilmyst

Human girl.

a character in “Carnes High: Monster School”, as played by Crystal Flamedance

Description

Amber is thin, yet somewhat athletic. She has waist-long bright red hair, and green eyes, and is about average height. She usually wears jeans and tank tops, and usually darker colors.

Personality

She usually keeps to herself, especially around others that aren't human, unless approached first. She can be defensive, quick to take offense, and quick to turn some of the most innocent statements into something mean. However, that's mostly just her "defense system" around strangers. She can be very talkative, and smiles often around friends. She is quick to trust some people as a friend, though sometimes too quick, though other times she will remain stubborn about someone. She has always much preferred the company of her pets to others, which is the easiest way to get her trust; anyone that can talk about pets for a long enough period is a friend to her. Despite wearing dark colors so often, she's really a much lighter person; she enjoys being outside, in the sun, preferably in the middle of some field, looking over flowers. And writing, always writing. She considers herself a writer, and will write often about nearly everything she sees, practicing descriptions. She can be very easily frightened (though that is usually hidden by her "defense system," often being mean and hoping it will go away), and is a little claustrophobic, and has a serious case of arachniphobia.

She no longer spends time practicing descriptions; rather, she had turned the notebook into something of a journal, keeping track of everything that has been going on around her. She has become much more open, too, and more willing to discuss things with others. She is more than willing to help others out, even if that means getting hurt herself. However, she would not give up another chance to see Aiden, who she is very close to.

Equipment

The only things she always carries around with her are a notebook, and a few pencils, usually carried around in her arms.

She has since started carrying her notebook around less, and now only takes it when she believes there will actually be something interesting happening. Also, Algernon, the spirit that Adelle gave her for Christmas, will often hang around, usually hanging around her shoulders, or above her head.

History

She grew up in a relatively small family; only herself, her parents, and older brother. She has always kept herself out of trouble, and away from a lot of people. She has become used to her older brother being overprotective, even to the point of following along whenever she went to hang out with her friends, even when he knew them well. Because of this, she usually hides behind her brother whenever something goes wrong, so she's not so sure what she's going to do at Carnes without him. She hadn't realized at first she was being sent to a demon school, and wasn't too fond of the idea. But she figured that, as long as she was there, she may as well get used to it. Now she only wonders how she'll manage to survive the year without being eaten, or killed, or something.

Soon after arriving at the school, she made a handful of friends, the closest of which was Aiden, who was pulled from school by his father very soon after discovering that she had some sort of control over Aiden's beast. Though she has lately had to put up with feeling like the awkward third wheel, she still tries to hang around with the rest of her friends at the school. She has recently started to allow Shad to drink her blood every now and then, and is starting to learn to ignore the light-headedness the loss of blood causes. She made a wish at the wishing spring that gave her an ability to see the true forms of monsters, even while they are in their human forms.

So begins...

Amber hesitated, looking up at the building. A new school. She was used to moving around, and changing schools, but that didn't make it any easier than the first time. She shook her head before continuing, but stopping when she saw someone else standing at the gate, and another person talking with him. She took a deep breath, as quietly as she could, and tried to slip by the pair, as unnoticed as possible, slightly tightening her grip on her notebook. She was never too fond of company she didn't know very well. She only glanced at them as she tried to pass, before looking around at everyone else. She paused after she had gotten past them, glancing down to make sure the pencil was still in the spiral, before walking towards the building.

Amber only barely recognized the fact that someone had smiled at her, but noticed the wave more readily. As soon as he started to head towards the other two, she continued on towards the building. She had to figure out where everything was, perhaps figure out the quickest ways to get there, and hopefully before class actually started. As she went, she kept looking around warily, which was normal for her; she didn't know anyone, and that certainy didn't help much. She sighed to herself, shaking her head. Why did she have to go to a different school so often? She hated this part of moving. She opened her notebook, making short notes as she walked towards the building, glancing up every now and then; working on descriptions of people. She'd have to come up with some personality later on that matched what the person looked like, and then see whether or not she was close. A meaningless little game she liked to play sometimes at new places. Not that she often finished it; she didn't usually talk with them enough to know whether or not she had been right. Still, it kept her busy enough, and was something she could do on her own for now. She paused when she reached the building, glancing back at her schedule to remind herself which class she had first; that would be her first "project." She walked inside, trying to find the room.

Amber held her schedule out in front of her, trying to memorize the room her first class was in. If she could, maybe she wouldn't have to look down so often later on. She started down the halls, trying to figure out the order the rooms were in; not so hard. At least, not so hard when she didn't have one number she was trying to keep in her head. She had to constantly look back at the rooms, then back at her schedule. She was going to get herself lost...which, actually, wasn't that hard for her. She could manage to forget where she was in her own house; that was particularly embarrassing when she had had frineds over. She blamed it on moving so often, though she couldn't say for sure. She paused, leaning against a wall, looking at her schedule again, trying again to remember the room her first class was in. She hoped she wouldn't end up being too late for class; there was already no doubt in her mind that she would at least be a little late, anyway.

Amber jumped a little when, suddenly, there was someone next to her. She glanced at him, then looked back at her schedule, thinking. She didn't like asking for help from people she didn't know very well...let along someone she didn't know at all. But, as she thought about it, she was likely to get herself even more lost if she refused. She shrugged with a little sigh. "I guess I could use the help..." She hesitantly showed her the schedule. "I'll only waste my time trying to get anywhere on my own, anyway..." She looked away quickly; what was she thinking, admitting that? This year was going to be no different than any other; she was only going to keep embarassing herself, keep making a fool of herself. Nothing new there.

Amber looked up curiously when he leaned agaist the wall. The curosity quickly turned into fear at the sight of fangs that had suddenly...just appeared. She was sure she hadn't seen them before. But, before there was anything she could do, she felt those fangs sinking into her neck. She was frozen in shock for a second, and then she was trying to push him away. And here she had thought it was some sort of sick joke at first! ...Or something like that, anyway. "Stop it!" Though, even as she did, it looked useless; what reason did he have to listen to her? Still... "Let go of me!"

Ambers hand went up, holding the wound she now had in her neck. She watched them talking, the vampire slamming the other into a wall, before walking off. She didn't know what she was supposed to do about that; a vampire had just attacked her, was pulled away by someone else...though what she had heard about vampires strength made that hard to believe. So was this one not human, either? Or were they both human, and that one was impossibly weird, or something? She looked back at the person who had pulled him off. "I would head to the nurses...but I was lost already...and I'd probably only get myself even more lost..." She hated that she had to ask for help...but, at the same time, she didn't care much. She really needed the help now; she just had someone claiming to be a vampire drinking her blood. It didn't make sense to her, and she didn't like not knowing what was going on.

Amber hesitated, taking a small half-step back. Trust him...after that? ...But then...what other choice did she have? Tell the nurse she was bitten by a vampire...and get sent to some mental institution? She thought for a second, trying to decide, then shrugged. "...I don't trust you. ...But. if I won't have to tell the nurse...then go on ahead." She wasn't fond of the idea...but she wasn't about to try to explain to anyone what had happened.

Amber hesitated, watching the tiny fairy-like creature. She glanced up as she healed her neck, confused. Clearly, he wasn't human, either; not to be able to summon whatever this was, or to be able to walk away from that without a scratch, or even so much as a bruise. She didn't bother to listen to the tiny creature; she already knew she might fall asleep in class from how much blood she had lost. She didn't need the reminder. She shook her head, looking back at the other that had approached her. "I suppose that is a good thing...I'm already lost..." And already making a fool of herself...again. She shoved that thought aside. "Probably should get going to class, though..." She glanced at her hand that she had used to cover the wound on her neck, and wiped the blood onto her pants; she could have tripped over something. That wasn't too unusual for her, either.

Amber paused, watching as he was suddenly gone, then looking down where he had said the classroom was. Monsters. Did that mean everyone else was...inhuman, too? Everyone but her, it seemed. She she shook her head, walking towards the classroom he had pointed out. Maybe she wouldn't talk to anyone...maybe she wouldn't stay. But, at the same time, her parents weren't going to believe her about something like this, and wouldn't approve of her deciding she wasn't going to go to school. She hesitated outside the door, then sighed and walked into the room. She glanced around, taking note of where they had sat down and sitting a ways away from them; close to the wall, towards the back. She didn't need someone she knew to be something of a danger sneaking up on her. But the fact that she had made herself look like a fool before...it didn't matter now, not compared to the fact that there was at least one vampire in the same room, and who knew what else. She started writing, glancing around the classroom every now and then uneasily. Who else did she need to watch out for? She only knew she had to try to avoid the vampire that had bitten her as best as she could. She wasn't able to write much, though; as soon as the shock and fear had started to fade, she started to feel tired. She wasn't used to losing so much blood. She folded her arms on the table, laying her head on them. Maybe she'd try to sneak a nap in before class actually started.

Amber glanced up as he walked over to her, thinking through what he had said. It didn't matter, though. They could tease her like other humans would, but even that would be better than whatever worse these monsters could do. She watched him, somewhat confused when she noticed he was watching her. "Amber," she mumbled, too tired at that point to do anything else. Or to point out that she hadn't said her name in the first place. She forced herself to sit up, leaning back in the seat, watching him to try to keep herself alert; she didn't want to be caught off-guard again. "I see no reason not to seclude myself; only the first day, and I've already been bit, and I don't know what else anyone is capable of. Makes more sense to me to avoid them altogether, and keep myself out of trouble."

Amber looked away. Proud of killing someone? But at least she knew he was a vampire, too. She shook her head, turning back to him. "That's part of the problem. I don't know who can control themelves, and who could kill me so quickly. If I say something on accident to upset a human, I might get a bruise or cut. Someone here, though..." She glanced around the room, then back at him. "I'm not to big on risking my life, okay?" Even though that seemed to be what she would be doing by attending this school. She didn't like that he had gotten so close, or physical contact at all, and telling her how fast she could be dead certainly didn't help, but she wasn't stupid enough to lose her temper and try to fight; three seconds would be all it took, anyway. She looked around the room again. "Besides, I've always avoided people at school. I haven't been shoved in a locker yet." Though, if she thought about it, that might have been because her brother had hung around as often as he could, and wasn't as reserved as she was, especially about a fight.

Amber had no comment to make on taking risks. Sure she was in the room...but mainly because she knew her parents would be upset if she wasn't. Not so much a risk as being forced to. When he jumped up she started writing again, but stopped when she heard his voice coming from the front of the room, much louder. She looked up, somewhat surprised. She folded her arms on the table and put her head back onto her arms, face down in her arms. He was going to be hard to ignore, she was sure. And a headache, the way he was yelling...the cigarette smoke was going to cause problems for her, too, she was sure. She silently wished the day would hurry up and end...that the year would hurry up and end. Then she might be able to talk her parents into a transfer.

Amber looked up when she heard someone next to her, but, if she thought about it, it was only another monster. But then again, she didn't seem intent on talking too much. That much she could live with. She looked up towards the front as she started talking to him, shaking her head as balance suddenly got harder; something to do with what the girl had whispered? She laid her head back down again, but was forced to look up when someone else was talking to her. She looked over the small glass tube he had set on her desk, then watched him walk out of the room, past what she assumed to be the teacher. She looked down at the glass tube. "Little late if he meant that to prevent everything," she mumbled to herself, still a little shaky about the vampire bite. Still, she took it and slid it into the spiral of her notebook. It might have some use later on, anyway.

Amber glanced at the girl, wondering briefly how she knew her name, but remembered she was probably the only human there. Roommates? ...At least she seemed nice enough. But she heard someone else, a female, from the voice, complainging she was stuck with a human. No, with the human; with her. Maybe it would be easier with Arabella, but it would definitely be harder with the other demon; she didn't seem so fond of the idea. She shook her head when she said something about co-ed rooms. that would be a disaster, especially if she was stuck with someone like the vampire that had bit her. She could already tell this year was going to cause problems.

Amber didn't glance up. Obviously she was talking about her, but what was she supposed to say? Anything could be taken the wrong way, and she could manage to find herself dead real fast. She picked her head up a little, glancing at the one who had been so rude talking about her, then stared absently at the desk. "...I'm not afraid of you...more of what you can do. I'd just rather not find myself dead too soon..." Hopefully this class wasn't too long. She was ready to be out of there; to try to find some place on her own. Just for a little while. Just long enough to try to keep herself in check; to keep her from going into a panic. It was bad enough she would have to sit through the year as the only human, but being talked about like that because she was human...she put her head back on the table. Sneaking a nap in sounded like a better idea now.

amber looked up, somewhat confused, when he asked about borrowing her. She glanced at him curiously before pushing herself off the desk to stand up and head towards the door. She glanced back when the other one that had been called didn't move other than to lift his head, and then put it back down. Deciding that wasn't her business, she walked out the door, glancing hesitantly at the one that had called her out, then at the floor. What would she possibly be called out for? It was only the first day. ...Unless he somehow already knew about her being bit on the first day. She doubted that; the only ones that knew were the two that had helped her, and the vampire himself. So what would he possibly want?

Amber hesitated, but followed Kalen. She wasn't entirely sure what this was about. ...Okay, she had absolutely no clue what it was about. But she would find out eventually...right? She hoped so. She wasn't really fond of being so confused...of being left in the dark. But why the council room? Why would she be brought there? She shook her head, trying to come up with something. And she hadn't even brought her notebook with her to write, to try to help her think. She would have to do without for a little while.

Amber hesitated, but found herself a seat, still confused. She watched the pair, mostly from a lack of something to do, but turned her attention to the other who came back with tea. Only as human as she was...in body? She tried not to look too confused; she probably wsn't going to understand much aside from the normal lessons. Was she supposed to have found out what she was surrounded by so soon? Probably not the way she did, anyway; she doubted they intended her to be attacked the first day.

Amber winced a little, and looked at the ground. "Amber," she mumbled in response. But at least he had asked what she had wanted to ask. Maybe she would get an answer after all. She looked back up at the one that had asked why she was there, and then at the other that had called her there. Then she looked back down. She shook her head, and looked up again, watching for anything that might happen; for anything to come at her. Even if he had been the one to pull the vampire off...he wasn't being so friendly now.

Amber looked up as she heard the commotion, too. She watched him rush out, and stood up, poking her head out curiously to watch. Apparently it was more than the usual school fight. She looked up as she heard someone giving orders to help him, and found the same one that had attacked her before. She blanched, and pulled herself back inside the room. She was going to avoid him as much as possible after what he had done. She didn't need to be attacked again.

Amber glanced at Kalen, and hesitated. "...I kind of want to...but I won't go anywhere near him..." She shook her head. It was safer if she stayed there, as far from him as possible. Yes...it was much safer there. She was going to try to keep herself from being attacked again. Staying there was safe enough. She'd go and get her stuff later, and then find somewhere else to hide. She hadn't ever really tried to hide from anyone, let alone a vampire, but that had bothered her, scared her more than she would admit.

Amber shook her head. That was right; human representative. ...Why? Wasn't she the only human in the school? Well...aside from the one that was now dead...and being controlled by something else. She tried to ignore that part, glancing back at the werewolf, then away. It was only self-defense, from the sounds of it...but she couldn't be sure. This demon business was messing with her head a bit. She had never thought they even existed. ...And then to get bitten. She shook her head again. She turned her attention to the floor, not really looking up, but paying enough attention to listen to whatever they were saying.

Amber paused, but nodded, heading out of the room. She paused shortly outside, though, and glanced back at Kalen. "...I get lost easy, though..." she admitted, quietly. Much as she would have liked to start heading there, whether she followed or not, she was not going to be leading the way. She waited patiently for her; she had only said to help, not do it by herself, anyway, so she would come along then...right? Hopefully these demons weren't too different from what she was used to.

Amber paused, but nodded. "I have enough experience, I guess..." she mumbled. A few years of choir was all she needed to know how to manage that. She almost felt like she was back in choir, but shrugged it off. She plugged the cords into the podium, and looked around for the sound board. She hurried over to it, only glancing at Desmond as he entered.

Amber waited until she was sure the others were gone before putting the cords back where she had gotten them from...and everything else, too. She wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to do now; wander around lost until she found her next class? Or were they not going to clsses because of the hunters? It seemed odd that these monsters would end up worrying about anything that seemed human...but what did she know? Maybe there really was something dangerous to them. ...Were they possibly dangerous to her, too? Too many questions for her. She didn't like not knowing anything. Not knowing this was a school of onsters was one thing...but not knowing how dnagerous the hunters might be was different. Because she did have an idea of what they might be capable of. They had all thought he was a human student, though. So maybe there was supposed to be another human student, too? Another question...this was going to get annoying. She shook her head, heading back out to the classroom she had left her stuff in. At the very least, she needed her notebook to distract herself.
