Description

Image
Name: Caustic Orchid
Chinese Name: ‘Minh Xia-Ying’, or Nu Xia-Bei
Role:Ex Zi Princess
Age:19
Fighting Style:An individual style heavily based on Northern Shaolin Kung Fu.
Weapon: (8in)24cm long Butterfly ‘swords’(usually used one at a time or not at all) called “Thorns of Retribution”- A play on Xia-Ying’s flower title, as Orchid’s are usually delicate and hard to grow. She explains the name like this: “This orchid got tired of being pushed around. Thinking, ‘The rose has thorns, so why can’t I?’, it grew thorns of its own with which to pay back every injury inflicted upon it.”
Appearance: Xia-Ying stands at about 5’6” with a slender, yet muscular build. Her eyes are a gray brown color and her face is a soft round shape. Her once pale skin now has a slight tan from outdoor training.
Clothing examples- one two three four five five
Rumors: (as far as others know)
-there is a rumor that her family was affiliated with the Nu Family
-The few that know she carries the Thorns doubt her ability to use them, because she usually opts to fight without blades

Personality

Personality:
Xia-Ying comes off as kind, well mannered, and patient for the most part. Being on her own for so long has tempered her out of the quietness expected of a typical woman, though she is by no means chatty. Injustice and arrogance greatly angers her. Her glare is usually enough to shut someone up, and if it isn't, a swift display of intimidation will usually do the trick. She is a creative person, as shown in how she pays for her lifestyle. She rarely shows her true feelings to people, save for when she's angry, and does her best to show that she does not need a man to provide for her, nor does she ever intend on letting anyone rule her.

History

History:Xia-Bei was born as the 1st child of Emperor Nu Ying and Empress Nu Rixuan, with a daughter and two sons following after. Her life as a princess was fairly happy, considering that, as the first child, her parents had hoped for a son. She was well looked after, and she enjoyed the pass-times typical of a princes including music and poetry.

By the time the Huang threat became real, she was about the only child old enough to grasp what was going on without an explanation from the adults. The guard was stepped up, and they hardly saw their father for the meetings he went to. In the end, despite the preparation, the audacity of the Huang Dynasty overcame them. The Huang army made a beeline for the capital city with such speed, escape was impossible. Xia-Bei’s father was killed while leading the Zi forces against those of the Huang. She heard the screams of her mother as she attempted to protect her youngest brother. She, her sister, and her remaining brother were swept away by their special guards as the palace was burned. Before they could get out, the three were separated. She learned of her brother’s death early the next morning, and though what happened to her sister was a mystery, neither her, nor guardian were ever seen again.

The Zi lands were absorbed into the Huang Kingdom, along with Xia-Bei’s life and identity. Her guardian, Minh Caihuo, maintained his job, as her protector. He took her in as his daughter and settled down in a small farming village so as to keep her out of sight of others. He taught her to protect herself using the knowledge of kung-fu that got him his job as her protector, and she became quite taken with the practice. Even when he stopped teaching her, for fear of fueling any ideas of revenge, she continued to practice, thus giving her own spin on the Shaolin forms he taught her.

Had life remained as it was, ‘Xia-Ying’ may have grown up to be a normal woman, married off into a normal family. Unfortunately, the remnants of her old life caught up with her during her 14th year. A traveler named Fan Le passed through, and asked for shelter from the rain. Xia-Ying let him in against the directions given to her by Caihuo because he did not look well. He was sick, of course, and Xia-Ying convinced her guardian to let her nurse him back to health before kicking him out by saying he could help out on the farm for a few days to pay him back.

The young man, unbeknownst to her, was a bounty hunter who’d come this way because of a rumor he’d heard that one of Nu family’s elite soldiers had retired here when the kingdom fell. He stayed a couple of weeks longer than necessary to ‘help work the fields’, enamored with the mystery behind this man’s daughter. In actuality, he was staying to investigate, for the week of his recovery had sparked suspicions in him. And Xia-Ying fell for it.

Le found proof of Xia-Ying’s identity while snooping in Caihuo’s belongings. After this, he killed Caihuo with a poison blade while Xia-Ying was out (doing self training) and set the house on fire, and then went out to confront and capture her when she would return to investigate. He met surprising resistance, and was defeated when Xia-Ying took his blade and killed him with it.

Carrying only Fan Le’s knives and the jewels he’d found as proof of her bloodline, and some coins that survived the fire, she moved on. Over the next two years, she traveled from village to village, making money as a bard of sorts. Her poetry and skill with a lute paid for her traveling lifestyle, and her skill in self-defense kept her safe. In her third year of this, when she was 17, she played for some Huang army officers and recognized one as one of those who had terrorized her family. That night, she snuck into his room and killed him as he slept. Ever since then, she’s used her songs as a cover for a sort of vigilantism. She not only slays those who killed her family, but punishes those who do wrong in a community with a swift beating.

For the past two years, she’s focused in and around the area of the Huang capital, holding back her knives (newly bought since the days of her first travels) so that she can get closer to the real source of her family’s decline- the Huang Emperor.

So begins...
