Setting

A small farm sat within some remote hills, far from any civilization. Beyond the borders of the farm are nothing but thick and hazardous woodland, that's sometimes used for training missions.

The place itself is quite pleasant. It has a farmhouse, a barn, and a yard with targets and training dummies set up there.

The farm is largely self-sufficient, with some crops, some chickens, some pigs, and a cow, as well a a small herd of sheep. They're rarely short of food there.

The pail of milk hit the doorstep with a clatter, sending the white liquid all over the step, the door, the ground, and the shoes of the person bringing in the milk. Akasha Fairfax cursed quietly under her breath, scooping up the wooden bucket again and shaking the milk out of her sleeve. There was still a little bit in the bottom...but probably not enough to make the porridge. It was a training day, and Sir Fairfax wanted to ensure that the trainees had plenty to eat to set them up...and he didn't want them wasting their energy. So it fell to Akasha to get up, get the eggs and make the bread for the breakfast. She resented it rather a lot, but had to earn her keep to some degree.

She was around the same age of the Eclipse Children about three months older...but her lifestyle was rather different. She didn't train with them, instead she tended to deal with the more mundane parts of the farm when the others were busy. It was her condition for staying there. Condition...what a laugh..if anything her grandfather owed her...not the other way around.

She carried what was left of the milk in, dropping it in a cast iron cooking pot and lighting the stove as she began cracking the eggs.

"Breakfast!" she called upstairs, hoping to draw people down.
"....bunch of overprivileged little..."

"Granddad said you're apparently not supposed to do any yard work on training days." Akasha muttered, glancing around as she caught sight of two of the Eclipse children arriving downstairs, though her focus had to remain on the cooking, as she was doing most of it one-handed.
"Well, any work at all..."

She began scooping the bubbling porrige out into bowls and placing them down on the table.

Akasha hurried over to the oven, to try and save the bread that was emitting some ominous smoke. She cursed as she pulled it free, a large stripe of carbonized black across the top.
"...ugh..not again...by the gods that oven seems to have been built to burn the damn bread!" she snarled, carrying it over to the worktop and depositing it on the table.

"Well, someone has to keep the farm running." Arthur replied, setting the wood down by the stove.

"I thought we'd do a bit of an expedition into the woods today, caught sight of a bunch of goblis hiding up by the waterfall yesterday, thought we'd chase them off before they start stealing our chickens." he replied.

Nel meanwhile appeared in the doorway, running her eyes and yawning. She'd had arather terrible night...some awful dreams that she didn't exactly understand. She hadn;t gotten asleep until the small hours. In honest it worried her, cryptic dreams of rats running from the barn, crows taking flight from the forest, and blood running across the field and river, the thought of it made her shudder.

"Akasha can handle that Carabella." Arthur replied, turning to head to the door.

"Oh yeah of course...becuase Akasha seems to have gone from family member to resident servant!" Akasha growled as she grabbed hold of the bowls.
"My grandfather is obviously too damn cheap to hire a maid so he just decided to use orphaned family members instead...."
