Brink Orpheus

Brink closed his eyes tight when Alynna let go praying to some deity that she would not get hurt. When he opened his eyes again he found her on the net. Letting out a long shaky sigh Brink looked at her. "In trouble?" He said the words carefully trying not to break down into tears and yell at her. "Alynna... I'm not going to scold you... Just be more careful! How many times have I told everyone to be careful! I can't have anyone getting hurt! So! y-your not in trouble but if you ever scare me like that again! Il let Nixie give you the scolding of a life time!" Brink's voice cracked a little so he paused to take a few deep breaths. "Ash..." He looked over at the spider girl never in his life had he been happier to see a bunch of spiders. "Thank you..." He gave a weak smile before turned and leaving before he broke down. He still had Synthia to worry about... He just needed to keep it together for a little while longer just a little while... With those thoughts repeated in his mind Brink started walking back toward Derrick's tent all the while trying not to end up crying and running toward Nixie.

~ . ~

Nixie Blue

Nixie grinned. "It's no problem Callus you know I love taking care of everyone... Besides I have some face paint back in my caravan it's thicker then the stuff you use and better too so ha!" Nixie grabbed and dragged the boy out of the main tent toward her and Brink's caravan. She opened the door and pushed Callus in so he would have no choice in the matter. Once inside Nixie went to work on finding the face paint and soon she did. "Voila~" Opening the container Nixie made Callus sit down and soon she was painting his face a perfect ghostly shade of white. Humming to herself Nixie twitched her head wings to the little tune and gently continued applying the face paint being very careful around the scars and very precise around his jaw and nose as that spot was always a pain in her experience.

Julius' breath caught in his throat when she let go, falling down, down towards the floor of the big top below. But it wasn't a free fall of flailing and fear, no it was as controlled as any of her falls had been in her acts, in her normal practices when she hadn't had a near meltdown high above the ground, struggling to keep from losing her grip. He winced, actually winced, when her leg caught in the net Ash had hastily spun- and he had never been more pleased to have Ash's spiders on hand(while not an actual arachnophobe, seeing spiders that were larger than they had any right to be was still a little shocking, and this was coming from someone who snuggled with lions). And there she was now, dangling in quite a different position from earlier, now smiling sheepishly and swinging in front of his face like a pendulum. There was that nickname again, even if she did just catch herself.

As Ash brought the performer down from her web, Julius' face twisted from a sort of panicked look to a mix of concern and disappointment which, if anyone actually had seen his disappointed face before, was something akin to a kicked puppy. You didn't want it aimed at you.

"Are you all right, Alynna?" He finally asked, unsure if it was more because he wanted to know if she was all right or hoping she was all right so that he could tell her how utterly stupid she'd been, practicing alone- and she'd been wearing heels too! Honestly. She was lucky people had been nearby, that she hadn't dropped to the ground and broken her neck.

Moshe:

Giving a polite bow, he'd lift Synthia and put her on the table. Flicking his ears he'd nod once more, "I'll find it...." his voice was cool and somber as he'd turn on his heel, letting his tail playfully brush Synthia's cheek, before rushing out. As he got to the caravan of the snake charmer he'd avoid snooping, though the guy did seem curious to the cat.
No... bad Moshe... don't...

He'd stop himself as he saw the small kit, grabbing it he'd go back to Derrick and hand it to him. His eyes softened as he'd look at Synthia. "She's so adorable." He'd purr softly before rushing out going to the medical caravan to grab the towels, and a bucket of water. On his way back he was careful not to drop a single drop of water. Narrowly missing Brink's figure. "Oh... hi boss." He'd say before continuing walking back to Derrick and Synthia. As he entered the room he'd gently set the towels down on the girls chest and the water on the floor, it sloshing back and forth.

"What do you need me to do now?" He'd ask his voice in full seriousness, though it was hard for a half cat to look anything but serious. Anyone who knew cat body language would think he was agitated with the way his tail was twitching, and his ears flicking.

No one at the circus knew his true name, sometimes even he himself forgot it. After all, they had found the small fourteen year old seemingly dead on the side of a muddy dirt road- the stuff had been caked on him. His hair had originally been black, that was easy to see from how the cyan and white was dyed messily into it. And below his left eye was a icy blue tattoo, the same color as his eyes, and it was of a small spade. It was how he had gotten his name, since at the time he had refused to tell anyone what his true name was. To this day, he had not told a soul. Yet, he could not lose his name. If one were to enter his caravan, they would easily discover his name. The walls were bloody with it- literally, some things were written in a substance that looked scarily similar to blood. Thus why no one was allowed in there either.

The circus was a place where new things were being tested and done each day. Spade was often the one to test how dangerous or harmful things would be, since he was incapable of feeling pain and healed up quite quickly. When he wasn't being used for that, he often did tricks of his own that- big surprise -included cards. An ace of spades could almost always be found somewhere on his person. He was that mysterious guy that the girls in the crowd always drooled over. Attractive, quiet, uncaring, he didn't really see what about that made him desirable by them, but it didn't matter either way- he wasn't interested, ever. There were very few things that Spade actually took an interest in. His cards, himself, and his unknown past.

The tall man gave a short nod, "Correct." The fae almost seemed hesitant to use his stage name, perhaps even hesitant to say anything at all. He could see why, not many at the circus had actually spoken to him. Not that many wanted to, he was rather cold and not the best conversationalist. It almost even amused him to see her hesitant to use his stage name, as if unsure if he would permit it. Probably because most here just went by there actual name. After stepping back up, he sat himself down on the steps, quickly becoming bored again now that the danger was gone. Spade stood after awhile, giving a glance around before descending the stairs and exiting the tent.

By the time Moshe had returned with the towels and water, Derrick had set out everything he needed and was just waiting to clean the blood off before he could take care of the wound. Through the whole time he had been talking softly to Synthia, no matter the annoyed look that currently occupied his face, it was perhaps the kindest he had ever spoken to anyone- besides Julius. It must have been strange, seeing the youngest boy in the circus take out scalpels, sutures, most any medical instrument you could think of from this box. Must have been even stranger to see him prepare to "operate"- as one would call it -on a girl older than him, with other adults around. Again, from the home schooling when he was younger. His parents raised him to one day be a doctor.

As he was cleaning off the wound with the water and a towel, he glanced up at Moshe. "I need you to keep her calm, this is likely going to hurt." The young boy took a bottle of liquid from his box, something strong enough to effectively disintegrate any bacteria in the wound. "Keep her still," he said, right before pouring the substance directly into the cut and all around it. Quickly he pressed a new towel against the knee, to keep it in and then to dry it. After a few more steps he took out the suture, again instructing Moshe to hold her while he stitched up the knee. At the end he simply wiped it again and then wrapped it up with medical tape, then setting himself to cleaning his instruments and putting them back away. "You should be alright now, Synthia. I suggest you take it easy on that leg. If the bandages get dirty just come to me and I'll replace them, and when it's time for the stitches to come out you can either pull them yourself or I will."

As soon as Brink entered the tent, Derrick went towards him. He didn't ask about Alynna, nothing, just pulled the bigger man into a hug and didn't let go. The man looked literally like he was about to cry, and he knew that he probably didn't want others to see that. "Moshe, help Synthia out of here." the boy demanded, only letting Brink go long enough to move them out of the way of the door so the two could get by. Once they were out, Derrick quickly shut the tent and pulled Brink over to the long bench with him, making the man sit before taking a seat directly next to him and once again pulling the man to him. "What happened?" he whispered, chewing on his lower lip. "Are you okay?"

Brink Orpheus

Brink barely registered where he was when he entered Derrick's tent. Actually he was trapped in a horrible place between thoughts of what if and trying not to cry so really he did not realize until he felt a pair of arms wrap around him. Brink snapped out of his daze and wide eyed looked down at Derrick who was hugging him voluntarily, most of the time Brink had to tackle Nixie and force her into a hug which never ended well. Brink was frozen in place staring at the younger boy.

Brink blinked and barely heard Derrick say something before ushering Synthia and Moshe out of the tent... Synthia was alright though she did not look like she'd be performing any time soon. Or at least not with Brink's consent she wasn't! Confused and still on the verge of crying Brink was grateful when he could sit. His legs were shaking and tears were trying there best to escape. He looked over at Derrick before grabbing and pulling the younger boy into his lap and into a hug so he could bury his face into his shoulder and cry silently. He often did this with Nixie but as his cousin was no where to be found at the moment Brink was relying on Derrick... "E-Everything is fine... Everything... has to be fine..." Brink's voice was muffled and horrid due to the odd mix of crying and his face being pressed into Derrick's neck and shoulder.

Brink was probably going to be shaky for a few days thanks to this incident... After he'd lost his eye and his own friend due to a lack of safety precautions he'd nearly gone over the edge Nixie came into his life soon after that and beat him back into his senses with a mix of allowing him to care for her but also a literal beating of the frying pan to make him realize giving up would mean the end of his friends memory as well... But if Brink lost someone else even if they did not like him he'd still loose it again and he wasn't sure any amount of Nixie's frying pan beating would snap him out of it.

Alynna:

She'd carefully climb out of the sac and stand up straight adjusting her cloak, making sure it didn't reveal her corset dress underneath. As she had seen Brink's face, she felt horrid, she really needed to make it up to him. Pulling her hair back into a ponytail, she'd reveal her flustered face, still shaking a bit. "I'm fine....." She'd whisper before looking down at her heels. They were thick enough... why... she'd give a bashfull look at Julius, "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to interrupt you." She'd bow to Ash and start chewing on her lip nervously. She was fine, and she seemed fine unharmed. "I should probably have someone watch me next time." She'd give an awkward laugh and shake her head.

Synthia shivered when she felt Moshe's tail on her cheek, it felt so soft on her cheek she responded to what Derrick was saying to her but she knew that he was annoyed. Watching him take out different things and special looking knives she wondered why he had them out, he said that all she needed was stitches. She looked at Moshe when he returned and blushed just a bit when he said that she was adorable, than looking at Derrick when he told Moshe to keep her calm. When he poured that liquid on her cut she clenched her jaw tensing her leg, it hurt so bad but she kept still grimacing. Biting her lip when he started stitching her up, it really hurt and her eyes watered just a bit and waited for it to be over. When it was over she nodded "okay I will, thank you and again sorry for making Brink run of to aid Alynna and ruining your alone time". Carefully she got off the table her leg hurt so bad, looking at Brink when he walked back into the tent her heart skipped a beat he looked like he was on the brink of tears.

The thought of Alynna dying played through her head, but she doubted that Brink would even come back to Derricks tent if Alynna had died she bowed her head and without Moshe's help she left the tent eyes still watering from the pain of her leg. She was also sad that Derrick had so harshly kicked her out of his tent, she had to steady herself but kept walking. Shaking slightly she felt even more dizzy from the lack of blood from the amount that bled from her leg sighing she felt upset about it. She didn't want to go back to the lions den to see if Julius went back there instead she grimaced as she walked, ending up by the lake she just sat down on the banks and fell back looking up at the stars. Knowing that she was not allowed to preform and knowing Brink wouldn't let her with her injured leg.

Moshe:
He'd listen to Derrick, and keep his glowing green eyes on Syn, his tail wiggling to distract her as his fingers would occasionaly brush against her cheek and play with her hair. "Soft." He'd purr, as long as he was keeping her calm he'd do whatever it took. When Derrick was done he'd go to help Synthia up, but it seemed she didn't need her help. She'd already rushed out of the tent, though Derrick seemed to kick them out anyway. He'd give a breif nod to Brink, before meowing he'd run after Syn, letting Brink and Derrick have their alone time.

Finally he'd catch up to Synthia, his face softened as he saw her sitting by herself. He'd approach her as silently as a cat, and sit next to her giving a sigh. "I won't perform until you can." He'd mumble to her, his tail wiggling slowly wrapping around her petite waist. He'd give her a nuzzle and purr in her ear.

"You were really brave." He'd whisper in her ear.

"Probably?" Julius quirked an eyebrow skeptically, arms crossed across his chest. "You definitely should. We were all worried about you. Just... try to be more careful, all right?" He sighed a little shakily, uncrossing his arms and running a hand through his curly locks. He didn't have it in him to scold her right now, to tell her that she was lucky there were people around, lucky Ash came to help, lucky the worst hadn't come to pass. No, all of that could wait until after tonight's show when, hopefully, his nerves had calmed down enough. He might put his life in danger every day, might watch his friends do the same thing, but that just made moments like this- when it was out of everyone's control- all the more terrifying.

But this wasn't about him and his feelings. Things hardly were. No, this was about Alynna's life being in danger and, now that that particular scene had played out, there were other things to be concerned about. For instance, Brink, who had retreated from the tent with an expression that had betrayed the fact that tears would soon follow, once he was out of sight. As ringmaster of the Cirque du Soir, especially a young ringmaster with plenty to prove, there was enough stress and worries on Brink's plate without the addition of someone almost dying in a very preventable accident. He was always so busy checking on everyone else, a fact often hidden by his calm and reserved exterior, well, why shouldn't Julius return the favor?

"Look, I'm going to check on Brink. You just..." He trailed off, grasping for something to say. "Don't practice anymore? Take a break or something. And, Ash. Thank you. You really saved the day." The thanks was filled with honest and clear emotion, a warm smile twitching on his lips. With that, he turned around and exited the tent.

The question now was where had their young ring master gotten to? Well, yes, he could have run off to find Nixie- it's what Julius would have done in his shoes, run off to someone closest to him. Then again, maybe he was all right after all and had gone back to Derrick where they were presumably working on tonight's act, only a short while away. It was a bit of a stretch, even in Julius' mind, but the snake tamer's tent was on the way to the food tent where Nixie presumably was, so he might as well stop in there, just to be sure.

The circus was coming to life, more and more people awake and inside their own tents, preparing for the nightly entertainment. The moon had risen even further, lighting the sky with aid from the bright stars above that had just begun to sparkle to life. The walk to Derrick's tent was short, Julius' pace brisk in an unusual deviation from his normal slow, almost lazy way of walking.

"Hey, Derrick, have you seen Brink-?" It hadn't crossed his mind to just peek in, to give some warning before throwing open the tent flap. Now, he really wish that he had because apparently Brink was here, sobbing desperately into Derrick's shoulder, the younger boy held in a tight hug in their ring master's lap. Julius' face colored brightly, eyes darting to the ground. All right, not what he'd expected to find but that was fine. Well, maybe it wasn't fine. That feeling for earlier, the horrible nausea and knot in his stomach feeling, had returned ten-fold, almost cripplingly so, and he really couldn't bring himself to tamp it down. Ohh, God, he was a horrible person, wasn't he? An absolute horrible, awful, terrible person because it was just comfort, and here he was feeling jealous. He was jealous wasn't he? But he didn't need to be at all, and, really, even if he was jealous, it wasn't intimate, but, then again, it did look awfully intimate and-

"Sorry, sorry. I'll just," He blurted out, spinning on his heel before he looked even more like an idiot and exiting quickly, almost tripping over the tent flap as he fled, embarrassment and just the slightest bit of distress on his face. Okay, time to go now. Exit stage left, go find lions and get them ready, pretend this never happened.

There was absolutely no doubt in his mind when he said he loved Julius. Not that the young boy had ever actually said it out loud, of course. Just in his mind. But that was enough, wasn't it? Julius should know by now, the way that Derrick touched him, the way he acted so differently around the older man. All of it seemed to go right over his friend's head, no matter how much effort he put into flirting with him, or being with him. And even though Julius let him hold his hand, kiss his cheek, or the way he threw him over his shoulder when he was being angry, none of it was seen as any more than a joke.

Should he just move on?

It was an appealing thought, especially with Brink so close to him. After they had sat down, the man had pulled him into his lap, making Derrick turn red and get awfully shy. The need to pull away was there, but he knew that right now the ring master needed him, and he wasn't going to let him down. Perhaps he should just try and get over Julius, maybe Alynna and him would make a better pair. So far he had only seen Julius express feelings towards females, so why should he think he even had a chance? Thoughts of what it would be like with Brink filled his mind, and none of them were bad either. It seemed Brink and him were in the same situation, not that he wanted to be big-headed or anything, but he thought that Princey just might have had a crush on him. Just like how Derrick was, nice for Julius and mean to everyone else, was just like how Brink was, except with Derrick. It was crazy that he had never noticed it before.

Wrapping his arms around Brink, he allowed the man to cry- even if he was a bit upset about him getting Julius's shirt wet. No matter, right now his friend needed him, and he had no intentions of letting him down. "Shh, it's okay," he whispered, fingers trailing softly through the others hair. "Don't worry." He pulled back, a single digit resting under the others chin to tilt his face up and make him look up at Derrick. "You're okay Princey." The younger boy offered a small smile before pulling Brink back to him, again wrapping his small arms around the larger man and letting him cry into his shoulder.

It was about then when Derrick felt the cold air against his back, and lifted his face from where it was hidden in Brink's hair to see... Julius. The boy was too shocked to do anything, say anything, try and make some excuse for the position he had been found in. Not that he truly needed to, it wasn't like they were dating, it shouldn't matter. But Julius's reaction... it had to mean something. Still, he couldn't think that Julius may like him, he couldn't. The disappointment of finding out otherwise would be too much. Instead his thoughts immediately went towards Brink; did Julius like the ring master? That had to be it, there was no other reason for him to be acting this way. Surely Julius had seen Derrick snuggle up with enough guys before, so he certainly wasn't a homo-phob or anything.

Slowly, he disentangled himself from Brink. "B-Brink... I h-have... I'm sorry." Throwing an apologetic look at the ring master, he hugged him once more and kissed his cheek before running out of the tent in a hurry. Immediately he began towards the lions den, figuring Julius would have headed in that direction. When he saw the back of his friend his pace quickened, and he realized then that there was tears running down his cheeks. Reaching out when close enough, he grabbed onto Julius's wrist and pulled hard, wanting him to stop and turn around to face him.

"Why!" he demanded, hands in fists at his sides. "Why do you like Brink but you won't like me!" One fist was raised as if he wanted to hit Julius, but it fell back to his side as the young boy stomped his foot, like a child. Both hands were still clenched, and he raised his arm to swipe at both eyes, a pathetic attempt to clear his tears as he whispered yet another pathetic, "Why?"

Brink Orpheus

Brink was a crying mess so really most of Derrick's words were muffled in his head. But the comfort he was getting from the younger boy was helping... He was like Nixie upset about being held yet still there to help. When Brink saw Julius he barely registered the blonde man's presence not until it was too late. He could hear the countless hours of Nixie coaching him on how to explain things and stuff going to waste. But it really was to late and Derrick was now upset. Blinking confused Brink let go of Derrick easily... He knew the younger boy had a crush on Julius and he might have just messed that up. "Stupid..." He stood slowly and moved his hair to cover his blind eye. He needed to get to Nixie and plead with her to take his place as ring master just for today... He did not think he could do it without messing something up...

Quickly exiting the tent Brink bolted off in the opposite direction of which Derrick went after Julius... He'd messed up enough he'd just go around and find Nixie... Yeah that keep him out of harms way. While running as fast as he could toward his caravan Brink failed to notice two things... One was Spade and two was that both of his eyes were clearly visible. And due to that fact Brink ended up running full blown into Spade and falling on top of the man... With tears streaming down his face and both of his eyes plainly visible large and wide like a lost puppy desperately in need of... Well Nixie and her take charge optimism. Brink stared down at Spade and retreated away from the man muttering apologies and trying to dry his eyes. They were close to his caravan at least...

He was really getting too predictable, Julius mentally chastised himself as he realized where his feet were taking him halfway to his destination. The tent leading to the Lion's Den was looming ever closer, a safe haven for him to retreat to, to get away from everything. He could hide there for a good while, until it was time for the show, until he felt like he no longer wanted to vomit or, alternatively, shatter into a thousand pieces. He could just sit there amidst his lions, his confidants, and pretend like none of this had happened and that he hadn't made a right idiot of himself, bursting in on that emotional, private moment and then running off with as much grace as a seal on land.

He nearly made it too before a hand wrapped itself around his wrist, yanking him forcefully to a stop. He must have been really out of it, so absorbed in his thoughts that he hadn't even notice someone approach. He turned around and caught sight of Derrick. Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, he was crying. An apology fought to fall off of his lips, even if he wasn't sure what he was apologizing for because he hardly knew why he was upset, let alone Derrick. But all thoughts of apologies melted away when Derrick spoke through his tears, voice angry, fists clinched as if he'd like nothing more than to punch Julius.

His words didn't make much sense at first, but as he continued, Julius' racing mind began to put the pieces together, or at least how he understood them. Derrick- Derrick thought that he was jealous because he liked Brink and- and he was upset. He was upset because Julius didn't like him? But that didn't make sense because- because- and that's when the revelation that he was jealous of Brink because of Derrick shot through his mind. That's why earlier, and now, and so many times before, just seeing them together, so companionably had torn him up on the inside. But Derrick shouldn't care- he'd just been flirting with him. Everyone at the circus flirted, he remembered that lesson quite vividly from Lydia all those years ago. The flirtation meant nothing, so why was Derrick...? And now Derrick assumed, just because he cared about Brink that-! His mind was short-circuiting, thoughts traveling too fast to make sense. His mouth was moving now, really just gaping like a fish gasping for water on land, before he even had the presence of mind to say anything.

"What? How could you-? You idiot, I'm not jealous because I like Brink! I- I'm jealous of Brink! I like you." With that, he suddenly leaned down and kissed Derrick. It wasn't a perfect kiss, a little clumsy due to the suddenness of it, and imperfect given Julius didn't exactly have much experience with kissing, but it was filled with raw emotion- the only thing that Julius was feeling right now.

He stayed like that for a few moments before, just as suddenly as he'd given the kiss, he pulled back, a look of dawning surprise and horror on his face. He'd just kissed Derrick. He'd just kissed him. He wasn't even sure if Derrick liked him- it's not like he'd outright said it, and he'd made this mistake before and now he was making it again, confessing to someone who'd just been playing around and not even understanding the emotions going into it yet. It was all so sudden and he was so confused and-

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," He was probably babbling now, backing away. "I am so, so sorry." And with that last apology, he took off to safety, to think, to try to ignore the fact that he'd probably just ruined one of the best friendships of his life on an emotional impulse. In a few short seconds, he disappeared into the lion's tent, shaking like a leaf.

Synthia looked up at Moshe, quickly wiping her eyes when he sat down next to her sitting up she looked at him "you don't have to" she did not want him to give up his performance because of her. She would just watch the shows or watch the stars in the sky, since she didn't really have any friends in the circus people were just nice to her sometimes. "If you do though don't forget to tell Julius you wont be in his act tonight" looking at him as she felt his tail around her waist as he nuzzled her. Looking down "I wasn't brave, I just didn't know what to do, so I decided to run to Brink and tell him I was just scared for Alynna. There was even a panther there" she wondered how Alynna was and if she is alright, if she got down alright she hoped she did.

She brang her injured knee up and wrapped her arms around her knee being careful not to hurt her leg, or to squish Moshe's tail. She was so skinny anyways so it would not have squished his tail anyways, grabbing a small rock she threw it at the water at an angle and watched it skip across the surface of the water before splashing into the water. It was a dull splash and she untied Brinks shirt from her leg and folded it, looking at the cut on her leg it stung a lot she bite her lower lip and reached down and carefully trailed her finger along it. Wincing when she felt the contact.

Alice looked around, confused in her own little world. 'What's going on? Is someone hurt?' She climbed up a tree and sat at the very top, looking up at the sky. She counted the clouds that floated by, still waiting for Moshe to come back and play with her. 'I wanna play, but he seems busy right now...'

She continued to stay up in the tree until a sudden drowsiness came over her. 'Nyaa~... I'm just gonna take a small cat nap up here then...' As soon as she had finished that thought, she closed her eyes and fell into a quiet sleep.

Calais Lochley

The sudden lack of sun was enough to pull Calais from his fragmented sleep, and he awoke with a start, nearly knocking himself to the ground— which, admittedly, would have been painful, given that he'd fallen asleep in a Y-shaped crook in a tree branch. His legs, long and spindly, hung over one edge, and his arms hung over the other looking just the same. He scrabbled to find some sort of hold before he slipped. His body was at an odd angle, and it was only a matter of time, now.

For all the effort, though, it really wasn't worth it. What little sleep he had gotten in the past hour hadn't done much to push away the headache throbbing in his temples, and whoever it was who had woken him was in for an earful. Locked in the blind, sleepless rage he knew too well for comfort, Calais' green eyes skimmed his surroundings for the perpetrator. When none was found, all there was left to do was pause and think. He'd felt a sudden burst of cold, heard a slight scrabbling, and then the light was bright in his eyes, again. Hardly pleasant and hardly distinctive. Calais peeled himself off the tree, yawned, and stretched a bit. Perhaps he'd unearth his bed and bury himself in his tent, again, where no noise would find him to wake him up. He needed the sleep. The nightmares had been getting worse, lately, and sooner or later he knew he'd end up sleepwalking again.

And he knew how the last time that had happened had worked out.

He bit the inside of his cheek and stared up at the sky, willing his eyes to wake his mind up. Puffy clouds, the only kind he'd ever seen back on the plains, hung heavy in the sky. They were so nauseatingly bright on his pinpoint pupils.

But there was something else that wasn't nauseatingly bright, and that served to sicken him even more. His stomach twisted with annoyance when he caught the silhouette out of the corner of his eye: a small, girlish figure slumped in the tree above him. So she had been the shadow. Calais had half a mind to go bother the sleeping girl and get on her case about her waking him up, but he decided against it, eventually just tossing at her a handful of pebbles in the hopes of annoying the tiny, catlike creature above. He stalked off in silent fumes through the fairgrounds like a member of the walking dead, passing by a parade of dolls and their blonde, elfin leader somewhere along his stumbled journey. He nodded in greeting and didn't much care when she only shied away. It wasn't as though he cared. Not really.

Calais thrust the canvas flap covering the entrance to his tent aside and crouched inside it, reveling in the shade but calm at heart with the way it let pinpricks of light just through enough to allow him to rest in surety that he was alone in the dark. Not bothering to unearth the cot, he fell asleep on the floor in a pile of colorful cloths. The light bouncing through the glass prisms scattered around his nest cast scintillating colors over his face. It was calm, here.

Well, it was for now. He really hoped nothing needed fixing before the performances. If it did, someone always ran to get him. Someone always had to wake him up. He might as well sleep while he could.

Lenka Paris: Lightgiver

The tiny homunculus was in grave need of care, and Lenka was all too quick to jump to her feet in the rush to provide him with it. She'd ignored Spade, absorbed in the woes of the tiny creature as it creaked in pain. Did it understand pain? Perhaps not, but it certainly felt it. She could feel it, even in the basest parts of her mind, and the doll, animated with that tiny fragment of her soul, could feel it all the same. Its cries grew ever more helpless. Already on her feet, she was in her performance tent quickly enough, though her legs were hardly built for running and she'd grown tired after only a few moments. Her hands pinched the gash in the doll's head shut to keep the stuffing from falling out.

There was no way she was going to lose the creature she'd trained for so long fade away here because of a tear.

Lenka re-animated the crumpled performers, who lined up behind her like ducklings, following her brisk steps across the grounds with their own tottering runs. Their footsteps were quiet over the grass, and they hardly made a sound even in passing the man that had so kindly created their joint systems for them. On arriving at Lenka's tent, the three performance dolls waited outside while Lenka herself stepped in, eyes skimming its inside for her sewing supplies. There was cloth and a half-finished dress, a doll, and a costume, none of which were even remotely the two basic materials she sought.

The sack creature had quieted its cries, and in this, Lenka found herself somewhat cheered up. At least it had manners. She'd taught it well. Perhaps, someday, it would be a tiny man of its own, but for now it was just as much mortal, hanging over death, as it was robotic and detached from the soul that had given its life. Now wasn't the time to worry about the distinction between humanity and life.

All she needed was a damn needle and some thread.

Ash blushed a bit and rubbed the back of her head in slight embarassment. "I-it was nothing. Just happy to help out is all." She said, rubbing her front legs together. She was always modest when it came to helping out around the circus. Weither it be helping clean up or even a situation like this, she didn't like having all the praise for something other people had a hand in. She climbed back onto the web, the spiders that had gathered seeming to come other to see if she was alright. The two biggest spider climbing off the web, one of them following Julius as if to see what was going on and the other going into the stand to explore.

She sat with her legs curled up under her watching as all the smaller spiders started to spread out and go back to what they had been doing before. "At least you're okay alynna. Last thing we want is for you to fall and no one know about it." She said as she started to pick at the net with her hands.

Two things had just recently happened to Spade that had never before happened. One, someone didn't notice him. Strange, that that would have never happened before. But it was true. Now he wasn't exactly the tallest person, being only five foot and about six inches, and he was pretty skinny, but white hair and icy eyes? It definitely attracted attention. No one had ever failed to notice the white-haired boy, and they definitely made sure to stay away from him. Two, someone knocked him over. Spade was extremely quick, completely balanced on his feet and constantly alert. Honestly, it was near impossible to catch him off guard. So the fact that the ring master had not only run straight into him, but also knocked him right on his back? The young man was certainly surprised, left staring up at the other on top of him.

The ring master seemed quick to back away, and Spade rose to his feet as graceful as ever. "You're such an idiot," he said flatly, pulling the other man to his feet. "Where is your caravan?" Though he posed it as a question, it was obvious that he wasn't going to accept any other answer than the one he was looking for. Brink may have been the same age as him, and taller than him, but he was babbling like a child and Spade wasn't going to make himself responsible for it.

That was really just like him, to do something just because it benefited him. Now, Spade wasn't a completely terrible person, he just didn't know how to be anything other than who he was. He was soulless. Never could he remember feeling any emotion, pain, happiness. Sometimes he wished he could, but only had to take a look around him to realize how foolish that was. Why would he want to feel like these fools?

He had perhaps just ruined the greatest thing in his life. Why? Because he was just too goddamn selfish and obsessed with a boy that he just couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer. It wasn't fair, not when he was the one forced to feel jealous. Derrick never had to feel jealous, he got just about anything he wanted. Except for Julius. Maybe that was why he was always so insistent with the boy, always pushing others away from his friend so he had him all to himself. There had never been anything he had had to fight for, there was never anything that he wanted to fight for. Until stupid Julius came along.

Derrick was calling himself an idiot repeatedly in his head, actually quite ironic since he acted as if he was much more intelligent than everyone else. But he supposed this made him an idiot, a babbling, crying idiot that wanted nothing more than the man in front of him to say that maybe he felt the same way- maybe Julius could like him. It wasn't that he had directly said that he liked him, that would have made him even more embarrassed and upset with himself, especially if his friend did admit to liking Julius. But it was quite obvious that he did like Julius, unfortunately. Even that seemed to go over his head though.

His eyes went wide when he heard those words he had been searching for for such a long time, I like you. And he didn't have time to recover either, because in the next few seconds Julius was kissing him. It was the most clumsy kiss he had ever had, sudden and quick, obviously Julius didn't go around kissing whomever like Derrick had at one point. His eyes stayed wide open throughout it, and he fell back a few steps when Julius suddenly pulled away from him, looking horrified. He made a point of reaching out to him, trying to pull him back but his friend was already apologizing, quickly retreating into the lion's tent. It wasn't his place to go after him, a seemingly straight man had just kissed a fifteen year old and looked completely confused about it, he thought it was best to leave him be for awhile.

Would they still be friends? It seemed almost impossible now for any sort of friendship to continue, since Derrick had found out Julius liked him, and now it was quite obvious that Derrick's flirting meant more than just... flirting. Though the ideas of having a relationship with him pranced(yes, pranced, problem?) throughout his mind, he knew that was even more unlikely than being able to be friends with him.

As he slowly made his way back to his tent, he realized that he had managed to ruin two friendships that night. Brink probably hated him for abandoning him when he was needed. To be honest, he half expected the man to still be curled up on the bench crying. But he wasn't, and the only thing left of it was a memory. Making his way to the back of the tent, he wiped his eyes of the tears and slid inside the back door. After sitting down, Ian and a few others came closer, only Ian actually coming close enough to wrap himself around Derrick's arm again.

Were they still going swimming tonight?

Waking up from her nap, Alice looked down from her perch. She looked at a figure starting to walk away, thinking to herself, 'It's quite rude to throw pebbles at someone who's taking a nap...' Jumping down and landing softly in her hands and feet, she walked into the larger tent.

Looking around, Alice searched for both the figure and Moshe. Calling out in a soft voice, she softly said, "Moshe! Can we play now?"

Moshe:

Chuckling he'd unravel himself and hold up one hand. "Syn... don't be scared." He'd whisper, even as his body shimmered and shifted, bones cracking and stretching, fur sprouting all over his body. He'd fall to the ground, and look up at her, he was in his panther form. The form he had used to scare Alynna. The form he had used to get help. He'd lay down in front of her and give a playful meow he wanted his belly rubbed. He'd remember that him and Alice were supposed to be playing right now, though he really wanted to help Synthia, and cheer her up. His ears flicked as he gave her a playful look. He was going to cheer her up whether it was him staying out of his act or being completely adorable.

Alynna:

Sighing she'd bow to Ash, she needed to find Brink. She felt horrible, and mostly guilty. First, she'd go to her caravan... she needed to actually do something...she'd need to see something. Before she knew it she was halfway to the caravan, the familiar smell of Jasmine and roses started to relax her. Opening her caravan she'd quickly run to her bed leaving the door slightly ajar. Hidden underneath the bed was a small jewellery box was her mother's necklace. Lifting it gently out of its velvet case, she'd remove her current necklace and gently place it around her neck. Sniffing she'd reach over and grab the small photograph she had of them and held it close to her.
I wish my parents could see me now....

She'd think to herself tears falling down her cheeks. How she missed them so...

Brink Orpheus

Brink snapped back to the present at Spade's question. "It's right here..." Brink pointed over to a well decorated caravan. "I... Have to get Nixie... She's going to take my place today... I think I just need a break." Brink sighed he knew he'd have to negotiate his way with this one... Yeah that was going to be difficult. Drying his eyes and grabbing onto Spade for support and because he wasn't yet done apologizing to the white haired boy he marched toward the caravan and bravely knocked. Various noises of things being moved and the door opened revealing a very annoyed looking Nixie with white face paint on her fingers and in the background Callus with his face painted perfectly. Brink blinked trying not to go full on older brother panic mode at the sight of Nixie with a guy... This was Callus after all just Callus right? He wasn't going to do anything to sweet Nixie... Or at least he better not.

Stepping inside Brink grabbed Callus and set him outside. "Nixie is taking my place today... Also..." Brink did a quick I'm watching you sign to Callus his way of remaining friends but warning the horned man that he was now going to be supervising him and Nixie's interactions... Closely. Nixie on the other was freaking out saying stuff about how she was in no way going to be ring master for the day of course that only ended in Brink closing the door and arguing with her quite loudly until he forcibly tackled her to the ground, begged her to agree and got what he wanted...

~ . ~

Nixie Blue

Nixie had just finished painting Callus's face when there was a knock at the door. Peeping out had revealed to her... Her cousin looking like he'd been crying and Spade looking like he'd just made friends with the ground. Nixie tried closing the door not really wanting to know what the equation Spade + Ground + Brink + Crying equaled, but Brink had already stepped inside plopped Callus outside announced she'd be taking over and then not even giving her the chance to disagree.

About a minute later after arguing and her agreeing Nixie found herself stepping out the caravan in an outfit Brink had made for her if ever she took his duty. She was seething with anger having been forced out of her comfortable clothes and into a pair of thigh high stalkings poofy shorts a white dress shirt with a vest and tie and finally a tiny top hat. "Brink... You will suffer for this you know that..." Brink was sitting inside the door frame in his comfortable sweater and nodded knowing this would indeed not come with an easy price. Nixie sighed and poked Callus. "Let's go... Guess I have to figure how I'm going to do this..."

~ . ~

Brink Orpheus

Brink waited until Nixie had walked off annoyed with poor Callus who was getting dragged everywhere, before he looked over at Spade. "Seriously... Sorry for running into you... I'm having a backwards day... Hence why I got Nixie to do my job... I think it would calm everyone down... She has that effect on people... You know when she's now seething mad..." He smiled gently and dusted Spade off and even fixed his hair as it was his impulse to do so. When he was done he blinked at Spade. "Sometimes I envy you Spade... But other times I feel like you need a hug... Days like today are when I envy you... And days when you try to nearly kill yourself because it would not matter I feel like you need a big hug and probably... A slap for worrying me to death... All the time..." Brink sighed and smiled gently slowly recuperating from his crying.

Synthia looked at him when his bones started cracking, watching with wonder as he turned into a black panther it looked familiar. Exactly like the one that scared Alynna, mesmerized by the fact that he had changed into a black panther "y-you pretended to want to eat Alynna? was it because you knew she would scream and cry for help?". Leaning over she stretched her arm out rubbing his stomach, his fur was so soft, she wondered how many people got to pet a panther and live other than Julius of course the man was a genius with wild cats or even tame cats. She moved a little closer to him, rubbing his stomach more it just felt so soft and comforting.

"If that is why you did that, than you are a good person Moshe" she whispered, loud enough for him to just barely hear her words, rubbing his stomach more. She had a small smile on her face, just barely noticeable she wasn't scared since she knew it was Moshe and not a wild panther. the more she thought about it it seemed to make more sense now. The panther, she meant Moshe didn't seem to even want to harm anyone else and his eyes were the same, in every form she had seen him in he had those shining green eyes.

Suddenly feeling very stupid about being petrified earlier she bowed her head wondering why she hadn't noticed the eyes were the same as his eye in human form and cat form.

Spade allowed Brink to use him for support, even going as far to allow the man to take him over to his caravan. Once he had knocked on the door and a girl came out, he began to move away, seeing this as his time to hand the child over to another. Instead he found himself being told to stay put and then Brink and Nixie disappeared, leaving the white haired man alone outside with, was his name Callus? It didn't matter. Looking over to the horned man he only offered a shrug, not even making an attempt at smoothing down his clothing or anything. The fall had left his clothing dirty and it stuck out at odd angles, and his hair looked more like it did that first day they'd found him, dirty. Though he didn't really care, it wasn't like he was here to try and "woo" someone or anything, appearances weren't all that important.

Nixie emerged a bit later looking different than before, actually she looked like the female version of Brink when he was up on stage. The girl walked off with the horned man and Spade stood there for a moment, for once unsure what he was supposed to do. He wouldn't admit to being sympathetic, but he wasn't going to leave Brink until he was sure the man was okay. Just because he was soulless, it didn't mean that he lacked a brain too. Spade had been in charge of Brink, and now he was again. Stepping inside the caravan, he found Brink sitting against the wall in different clothing than before. Spade continued standing, waiting for Brink to rise instead. When he did and then began brushing him off, he managed to stay still, keeping a blank face as his clothing was put back in place for him.

Though when the man moved his hand up to touch his hair, Spade gently stopped his hand and moved it away before releasing him. No one touched his hair, for reasons unknown. Actually, no one really touched him at all, it was uncommon for anyone to even speak to him. It was a surprise that he'd let him around him this long. "You know I can't feel pain," he said, voice flat. "I don't know why it worries you so much. I'm not yours to worry about."

Moshe:

Purring slightly he'd roll over and shift back before anyone said anything. "No one has seen my panther form... well... Julius knew about it... hence why he didn't go into his giant cat tamer mode." He'd chuckle and rub the back of his head awkwardly. "I knew that my roaring, and Alynna screaming would draw attention..." He'd sigh and shake his head his green eyes looking at her. Chuckling he held up his hand, "I have few forms i'm working on now, one a white tiger, one a lion, one a panther, and the kitten I pass for when around Alynna. A smirk came across his lips. "She has no idea that the kitten is me. He gave a catlike yawn before laying on his back as he looked up at her. "Sucks I'm going to miss your performance tonight...but like I said, I'll not perform until you do." His voice was serious as he said this. His tail wiggled below him as his ears flicked back and forth. He was enjoying just relaxing and being himself.

Synthia pulled her hand back when he changed back to his human form, she was curious about it now nodding remembering that Julius didn't seem effected by him when she saw him. She smiled and laughed lightly, he was pretty smart in those types of situations thinking quickly and making quick decisions like that to help someone. She wondered if that was why she had never seen him transform in front of Alynna but changed the second that she had left that morning. "Cool that you are expanding your skill at transforming, does it hurt when you transform?" looking down at him when he laid down.

"really? you were going to watch it? and okay, like I said make sure that Julius knows that you are going to" she wondered if he was going to tell Julius why he was going to skip out in the performance. Or just not show up, she laid next to him looking up at the stars, she crossed her legs at the ankles over her boots looking at the different constellations she knew about. Like Orion's belt, the big dipper and little dipper sitting bolt up right when she was a shooting star streak across the sky "quick wish for something, anything". Closing her eyes she wished that everyone was alright and that performances that night were going to go off without a hitch.

Of course she didn't say out loud what her wish was or else it was never going to come true, that was the international wish law. To speak your wish it meant that it could do the opposite of what you wished for or nothing was going to happen. She wanted her wish to come true badly, because people deserved to be happy all the time, life was just to short for anything else.

Callus didn't feel affected by her saying her face paint was better, he just found it amusing that she would brag about make-up, but he didn't show it. He didn't resist when he was dragged to the tent.

He wondered what design she would use, but he decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. He listened to the door being knocked on and sharpened his senses, his natural instincts telling him to fight. He calmed down his body and let the adrenaline slowly lessen. He wondered what was wrong with Brink, but he couldn't exactly ask, and he didn't want to. He hated questions, and he knew that people needed their privacy. He wouldn't spread rumors or anything like that. He hated getting things wrong and gossip. He smiled when he saw the costume Nixie was forced to wear, forcing himself to not let out uncontrolled laughter. He follow Nixie calmly, having managed to suppress his laughter. He noticed Spade, but didn't pay much heed. He had much more amusing things to take care of. "Do you need my help?" He asked, not really caring what her answer was. He could help or he couldn't, either way was fine.
