Personality:
Her most notable characteristic is definitely how energetic she is. As long as she is awake, she makes her presence known through her constant chatter and curious questions. She struggles to keep her attention centered on one thing and is known to jump from task to task, and even stop mid-sentence in a conversation if something new catches her attention. She would never go out of her way to insult or be mean to someone, but lacks a speech filter and tends to say things that she overheard and weren't intended to be repeated, or ask invasive, personal questions. She's naive, absentminded, inattentive and forgetful, but she rarely does any of this intentionally, and it's mostly related to her ADHD. It certainly gets annoying, especially when there are three other people living with her, but she usually fails to see any signs of people getting tired of her. She's a cheerful and optimistic person, who, for the most part, is always happy. If nothing else, she serves as a reminder to people that not everyone has malice intentions. She's one of the few people you'll meet who does most things with honest, innocent intentions.

One of her major faults is how dependent she is on other people. If it weren't for her sister, she most likely would already be dead by now. She is not intelligent book wise and the same goes for her street smarts. Not only does she struggle to read people, but like a child, she tends to trust everyone and expect them to be just as genuine as she is. Her naivety and overall delayed development is probably linked to her learning disabilities and drug damage done while she was in the womb, but the years of abuse probably play a role in it too. They caused her to become easily nervous, jumpy and emotionally unstable. Though she definitely struggles with learning and mental disabilities, and is probably in the mental age range of a ten to twelve year old, it's likely that they're all issues that could be worked through if she was ever able to receive proper treatment and therapy. It's possible, and even likely, that the happiness that she always possesses comes out of a "safe place", or something along those lines, for her. She refuses to process or acknowledge more serious and unfortunate things in the world, because she's already dealt with enough stress like that throughout her childhood.

Likes:
Candy, dogs, sunny days, nail polish, hot showers, socializing, gifts, attention, watching movies, her sister, her hair when its dyed red, macaroni and cheese, snow days, Beanie Babies, new clothes

Dislikes:
Arguments, school, being called stupid, rain, milk, coffee, isolation, silence, darkness, bugs, spicy food

Fears:
She has many "normal" fears, with spiders, clowns and rodents topping the list, but her biggest fear is probably school. She did so poorly throughout her academic career and it not only resulted in humiliation in the classroom, but physical abuse at home, so it's tied to painful memories for her.

Dreams:
Holly's dreams vary drastically depending on the moment, but they all share the similarity of being virtually unattainable. Between wanting a dog, a pool, meeting Zac Efron... they're just not going to happen. What would be most beneficial for her at this point would to get her high school diploma or GED and manage to get some sort of normal job and living situation on her own, where she isn't constantly depending on her sister to provide for her.

History:
Holly was born to a teen runaway mother and a teen father who was never present in Holly's life and probably never would been, even if had he known that he was her father. Her mother, Nancy, came from a family that was the epitome of the phrase "trailer park trash". Her father was an abusive addict who turned their tiny trailer into a meth lab, and her mother was too much of an alcoholic to care for her six children. Nancy dropped out of high school when she was fourteen with the intentions of helping to take care of her three younger siblings, but it was inevitable that she take a turn down the wrong path. Drugs and alcohol had always been such a common thing for her, and when she started a relationship with a twenty-two-year-old boy who lived a few trailers down from them, it became a part of her life. She started with alcohol and marijuana, and soon tested out heroin and crack. Using the drugs seems detrimental in itself, but things became even worse when Nancy found out that her older sister was also seeing the boy she was sleeping with. Even worse again, when she found out that she was pregnant with his child. It was an impulsive move, but she fled. She didn't tell her boyfriend or her parents that she was pregnant because she knew that they were going to tell her to get an abortion, or worse. Her family hadn't care for her when it was just her that they had to support, and another mouth to feed just wasn't going to be an option.

She was living in upstate New York at the time and boarded a train to New York City. She didn't know anyone there but was sure that a big city like that would have more resources to help her than any of the other poor, small towns in her area. The fifteen year old was desperate for help upon her arrival to New York, but was told that all of the shelters for teens and women had months-long waiting lists. Even pregnant, she was still addicted to drugs, with her drug of choice being cocaine, and rather than save the hundred dollars she fled with for food or a hotel, she sought out a dealer. It happened to be someone who worked for Rafael Barnes, one of the biggest drug lords in the Bronx. The dealer thought Nancy might be helpful in their distribution game, and brought her back to their house. A few months later, she had Holly. It's a miracle that Holly even survived the pregnancy with her mother's poor habits, but six months after conception, she was delivered in an emergency C-section. Had the hospital staff really took interest in the family, they may have been able to prevent the poor life that Holly would soon face. She could have been put into foster care or even adopted, but instead, once she had reached a stable point, she was brought home. Home for her first five years was Rafael's drug-ridden home. After a drug raid busted up their group and he, as well as many of the other men in the house were incarcerated, Nancy was forced back out on the streets. This time, however, she had more connections. She had secretly been sleeping with Clinton Wright, the leader of another drug group, and was welcomed into his home.

Her life here actually made her first home seem desirable. Not only was Clinton equally involved in drugs, but he and the men he lived with were abusive and possessive. He quickly claimed Nancy as his girlfriend - something that she probably didn't mind - but he made it clear that he hated the fact that she had a child with another man, despite him having a broad of his own with many women. Clinton never touched Holly, but his brother, George, who resided in the house did. It began as physical abuse. If Holly ever dared to cry in his presence, he'd take off his belt and beat her with it until she learned better. Whenever her mother cared enough to acknowledge how poorly Holly did in school, it would result in abuse as well. School had never been her strong point. She suffers from severe ADHD, learning disabilities, and dyslexia. At her peak, she could read at a third grade level, but after two years away from school, even that has probably become a stretch. She had no academic support at home, and it didn't help that she was attending a school in one of the most underfunded districts in the nation. The school didn't have the resources to help a child like her, so she couldn't be put into a special needs program, and instead, she was frequently held back, only managing to reach the fifth grade when she was fourteen.

The abuse she was receiving at home only made her more emotionally unstable and unable to focus in school. If the physical abuse wasn't bad enough though, George soon stepped it up a notch. The sexual abuse started when she was eight and continued until the day he was arrested, when she was thirteen. He was one of the many people taken during the police raid on their apartment, with two of the others including her mother and Clinton. They were charged with a multitude of drug related charges, as well as some armed robbery and attempted murder ones. Apparently, they had been tied up in more than just making drugs in the kitchen. Holly spent three weeks in a foster home before custody was given to Makayla. She's definitely doing a lot better with just Makayla, even if Makayla can't say the same about herself.

Despite the smile and the pleasant tone Cara used with him, Wes wasn't sure if he actually could stay for much longer in the blonde's apartment. Hanging out with Collin was fine, sure, and the invitation was surely tempting, that much was sure. Who really wanted to turn down the prospects of free food that he was pretty sure was going to be superb if Cara's reputation had anything to say about it? But considering the exchange between herself and Brooklyn, and just the simple fact that he wasn't exactly his most comfortable about the older Forrester sibling, Weston was pretty sure what he was not about to do and that was overstaying his welcome. Smiling at the blonde, he turned back to Collin with a pointed look. "I can accept it," he stated lowly so that only his friend could hear him. "I'm a punk, that was my cue to leave, and I'm pretty sure your sister doesn't like me, so I'm just gonna go, man."

And he would have left it at that. Wes was pretty much prepared to turn when, for some odd reason, Holly's conversation somehow included him and she was back in his orbit. Wes' face scrunched up momentarily at her inquiry, especially when it was followed by the scrutiny and he couldn't help but look up at Makayla a touch cluelessly. But he couldn't blame her for this one. Holly's mind, a fascinating thing to him, could go from a range of topics in under a minute. It was definitely troubling for her to randomly ask about his family, but Wes eventually smiled at her, albeit sheepishly before stating, "See, the only problem with that Holly, is that I'm pretty sure you don't want to go to a graveyard. Because...um, that's where my grandma is." His smile became a bit brighter at the memory of the older woman and he chuckled while adding, "Though you are right. She wouldn't like my jeans very much."

Internally, Brooklyn's eyes widened at Cara's display of courage in talking back to her. Maybe it was Brooklyn's ego speaking (it definitely was), but she hadn't expected Cara to do anything, other than maybe passively roll her eyes. She especially wasn't expecting any comment in return, once it was clear that Holly wasn't even taking the bait enough to cause a scene, so the retort left Brooklyn surprised. She wasn't going to allow her face to show that though, and rather than snap back at Cara with an underhanded comment of her own, she turned her head to the boy sitting next to her and pushed his shoulder in feigned offense. "Wow, Jude, you're just going to sit there and let her talk to me like that? Clearly, it's getting harder and harder to find loyal men these days!" she scoffed, not genuinely being offended by the stretch of a claim that she was making, but only wanting to make a bit of a scene. "Not to worry! It's not like I don't have a backup plan," she chirped a beat later, as she turned to peer in the other direction. Collin was still talking to Weston, but now that Holly was over there too, she assumed it would be easier to rope the blonde away. She still wasn't sure if she wanted to go through with the plan that she had suggested to Tony earlier, about sleeping with Collin as payback to Cara, but at least interacting with him now, would give her a sense of where she wanted to go later on in the night. "Collin! Would you come over here? I have a question for you!" Her tone had suddenly turned sweet as sugar, once she decided to call out to the blonde in a way that was probably unnecessary loud, given their proximity. It had to be loud, though, because the whole point of it was to be obnoxious. Even if it meant being childishly petty, to an extent that even she wanted to roll her eyes at, Brooklyn was going to make sure that Cara couldn't enjoy this dinner.

"You're not overstaying man," Collin smirked light heartedly. "The party's only just getting started, and I'm being totally straight with you when I tell you that that's the nicest she's been to anyone in here, so I'm pretty sure that means you've gotta stay," he insisted, though he knew that Weston was ultimately going to have to leave. If Collin had it his way, he'd make his friend stay so that he would have someone to survive the night with, but when it came down to it, he couldn't blame Wes for wanting to be across the hall. Cara was one reason for that, yeah, but besides that, he knew that whatever Tony had cooked would be good, and he was sure that the vibes of their celebration would be more pleasant anyway. The only thing that didn't scream tension in their apartment, right now, was Holly, really. And speaking of her... there she was again, asking Weston about his grandmother, who apparently was actually dead. This, Collin thought, could be the basis of an amusing scene if he could get Holly to press the subject. It wasn't typical of Collin, at all, actually, to want to antagonize Holly, but he saw doing it tonight as a way of getting even with Weston. If he was going to have to put up with this all night, Weston could put up with it for ten minutes. However, he was caught off guard by Brooklyn yelling out to him. For an inexplicable reason, he felt his cheeks flush red when he glanced over his shoulder and realized that she really was talking to him. "You're lucky I'm scared of her or else I'd get this to keep you here all night," he whispered to Weston, again, probably speaking of Holly in a way that wasn't the nicest, but also figuring that he was being a nice friend regardless, by basically leaving Weston with that, as his ticket to leave now.

As he approached Brooklyn, he managed to place the pie from the Garcias on an empty counter space beforehand. "Uh, yeah, what's up?" he asked, his hand reaching for the back of his neck in a move that seemed to be synchronized with him feeling awkward or anxious. This was just unusual, it wasn't particularly stress-inducing. Though they lived together, Collin did his best to avoid Brooklyn. He had overheard one too many of her fights with her ex for him to think of her as being anything less than crazy and aggressive. She reminded him of "words of wisdom" that his dad had passed on to him years ago, about how the prettiest ones were always the craziest.

"Jude and I want you to eat with us. Here, sit," she said, speaking for the both of them as she pointed to the empty seat across from her. From what she knew, Jude got along with his roommate well enough that she didn't think she would be bothering him by inviting Collin over, and if she was... well, then Jude was going to have to get over it. When Collin sat down, albeit a bit reluctantly, Brooklyn realized that he hadn't gotten any food yet. If that wasn't a perfect opportunity for her to step it up, then she didn't know what was. "But wait, we can't have you going hungry, Collin. Let me make you a plate," she said, standing up before he could even reject the offer. It was peculiar, to offer to make a plate for someone you barely knew, but for Brooklyn, it felt all too familiar, since she would frequently do it for Nick when he was lazy lounging on the couch or she just felt like playing housewife for the evening. If she could do it for her old man, she could do it for her potential new-man too.

Jude had been actively avoiding this entire debacle. Noticing a lull in the business of the food table, he made his move. Jude worked quickly and sat back down before anyone could really really notice he had left the table. Jude liked almost all food anyway, so filling his plate up wasn't a hard task.

The poor brunette was unsure where to go from here. Knowing how Brooklyn worked, it suddenly clicked for him. Jude knew exactly what Brooklyn was doing. She was trying to get back at Cara by sleeping with her little brother. Jude loved Brooklyn dearly, he really did, and he was fiercely loyal to his closest friends... But he wasn't sure if he could let Brooklyn get away with this. Let us not forget that Collin was also Jude's friend and roommate. Also, this whole casual revenge sex was just kind of crazy to Jude.

So there he sat, stuffing his face and watching in (subtle) disgusted amazement. If he had a choice he wouldn't say anything at all and he would somehow get the message across to Collin in some magical nonverbal way. Actually, if he had a choice he would be at Deja's doing whatever the hell Deja deemed necessary for a Thanksgiving dinner. That way he wouldn't even have to think about this whole scheme. But instead Jude laughed and smiled at his cues, like the good little boy he was while his head spun around ideas of friendship and what was right and wrong.

He could not, and probably would not say anything to Collin. Brooklyn would surely find some way to make Jude's life miserable he messed this up for her. It was also his best friendly duty to support her in all endeavors, right? Jude was having a really hard time with this one.

With the social stress mounting Jude just stared at Collin as he sat down and Brooklyn got up to make him a plate. "Dude..." was all that Jude could stupidly muster up.

Tony beamed with pleasure at Sam's compliment. She didn't exactly cook every day and she definitely was nowhere near ready to compete on Chopped, but when she did cook, she aimed to please. More than that, she aimed to bring back a little of her mother, a feat she only deemed possible during the holidays when all she had were memories of watching how methodical her mom had been about each step and the recipes she had the foresight of writing down back then for Tony's sake. But despite how sentimental she would verbally deny that she was being, she did like knowing that she was doing her mother's cooking justice. Tony herself wouldn't be able to tell you anything other than what tastes good with what. Wouldn't be able to come up with anything. But she was at least good at following instructions and that, in and of itself, was enough to have her beaming. Albeit, she dramatically flipped her hair in faux arrogance.

"Awww, shucks babe," she exclaimed, smiling widening into a wicked grin. "Why kick him out when you could just move in with lil ol' me? You know I'd share all of my space with you." Giggling at the way her uncle tossed her a rather disturbed expression, Tony turned back to Dane, shrugging at his curiosity over Deja's cooking. "I mean, if you wanna eat, you gotta be big on it. Even a little," she reasoned aloud. She too would have never pegged Deja for a cooker, but the girl's excitement for the holiday - for sharing it with everyone - probably either had her researching or asking around for recipes. Which wasn't anything new. Tony had old acquaintances who asked for one of her aunts' numbers every year for the best way to cook a turkey or a ham, and for that one casserole recipe they didn't know how to recreate. She figured that the food at Deja's was probably going to be good since, when she did put her mind to it, Deja was good at stuff. "Now, you're really stuck, D. Go make yourself a plate and sit where you want. Wes is a big boy. He can deal with no assigned seating at home." To show that there needed to not be any hesitation, Tony headed into the kitchen, picked up two paper plates and dangled one in Dane's direction.

Nicest Cara had ever been or not, as soon as Collin pretty much willing (though really unwilling, but there seemingly wasn't much he could do now that the blonde had been summoned and by Brooklyn no less) to let him go, Wes ready to head back to his and Tony's apartment. For just a moment, he was obliged to feel guilty, but only a little. He had adhered to and respect Collin's invite to come over and even came with a gift. Not wanting to stay when he had actual family at his apartment was excuse enough to get back to it. Plus, Wes figured that he could always check on Collin later, see if his friend needed to use his apartment for the night to get away from whatever tension was present at Brooklyn and Cara's prolonged sharing of space. He couldn't really fathom how the hell the two girls managed to share an apartment when they obviously weren't fans of one another, but Weston also wasn't of the mind to stay for too long to figure out if the girls could manage at eating at the same table.

Turning back to Holly, Wes smiled again and said, "I'm headed home now, Holly. You should go enjoy Cara's food since it smells so good and I'll make sure to tell Tony to set you aside something if you want, okay?" If Collin really had wanted to, as he had said before jetting off to see whatever it was that Brooklyn wanted, he really could have used Holly to his advantage. Even if Wes would have been side-eyeing him for the rest of the night. Wes couldn't exactly explain it, but he really did like Holly. A lot more than he thought he would when they first met. But then again, it was something he and Tony agreed on. Something about Holly's energy could be contagious and she was...pure, for lack of a better word. He couldn't help but want to preserve that, indulge it. Even if that meant she occasionally had the skill of getting him to do what she wanted.

Out of all of the negative things that Holly had dealt with in her life, surprisingly, death had not been one of them. She knew people who were dead now. One of Makayla's father's friends who constantly came by their house years ago was shot in a neighboring apartment building when she was a child. An old man who owned the bodega on the corner nearest their old home disappeared from the lawn chair he sat on outside his shop every day, and never returned after having a heart attack. One of her mother's close friends overdosed while partying with her mother. They were all people that Holly knew and would recognize, and at one point or another, when asking about why they weren't around anymore, she was told that they died. She knew what death meant, and yet, none of those deaths were personal enough to her for her to actually feel any strong emotions about death. It wasn't something that was real to her, yet, so she could only frown when Weston said his grandmother was dead, and mostly for the selfish reason that she wanted to hang out with a grandma today. "Okay, I'll see you later!" she nodded when he explained that he had to get home. As she turned to return to what she was doing (which by then, she had actually forgotten about), she found Makayla already standing right behind her.

"You need to stop it. We're going home if you don't chill out," Makayla said in a hushed tone, though the way that she placed one hand on her sister's shoulder and gave it a squeeze signified that she wasn't joking. She didn't want to embarrass Holly or make a scene, but this was why social gatherings were very stressful for Makayla. There was no time to relax or even make a plate of food when her sister was running around disturbing people, and Makayla knew that people would object, and maybe say that she was simply too overbearing over what her sister was doing, but that wasn't the case. Not quite, at least. She didn't mind Holly socializing and having a good time. She wanted her sister to have normal relationships with people, and fit into society in a more natural way, but she also knew that most of the time, that simply wasn't what was happening. While Holly wasn't good at reading social cues, Makayla was perceptive, and she could tell that Weston was ready to go, whether that was because of Holly or not. She wasn't going to let her sister continue to barrage him with questions, just so that he was forced to stay to answer them out of pity.

"I am chilled out. I was just asking Weston something bec-"

"No, no, no. No more running around and asking people things that are going to make them uncomfortable. We're here to eat, right? I need you to sit down and eat, or else Cara's going to ask us to leave, because you aren't being a good guest." Makayla genuinely was trying to be patient and kind and not condescending, but this was how she had to talk to Holly a lot of the time. She had to be blunt and spell things out letter by letter, or else the younger girl just wouldn't comprehend what she was saying. It stressed Makayla out more than other people could understand, because whether it was warranted or not, she constantly felt like the people around her were judging and scrutinizing her. Being so young herself, she was already probably a target for judgement by people who wondered how someone her age thought they could take care of a teenager on their own. She was young and broke and barely mentally stable enough to survive on her own, so often times, she felt like people would be right to judge her, but at the same time, she knew that she was Holly's best option right now. No one cared about her the way that Makayla did, and she found it hard to believe that strangers in the foster care system would do any better either.

The wine that she had poured and sitting on the counter next to one of the barely-made plates she had started on wasn't going to be enough to get her through this night, she quickly realized. She didn't want to get hammered, but she needed something to relax her, and she didn't think that alcohol was going to be the answer. What she knew would do the trick, was the Xanax she had back in her bedroom. Makayla had only taken the pills a few times in her life, mostly because it was a lot cheaper for her to obtain marijuana, but Nick had recently gifted her with some, and now seemed like the perfect time to pop one. She knew that you weren't supposed to take Xanax while drinking, but Makayla brushed that off as an unnecessary precaution that most medications warned against doing. She assumed that if anything, it would harm her liver, and not give her any weird reactions, and at this point, she couldn't care less about the health of her organs. She just needed to silence the ringing and tension in her head.

"Can I watch the dog show while I eat? Cara always says it's fine if I eat on the couch!" Holly responded with. She hadn't really absorbed Makayla criticizing her skills as a guest, and was back on the thought of the dog show that Cara had recorded for her to watch, since they had missed watching it live.

At this point, Makayla just wanted Holly to sit somewhere, so she nodded reluctantly. "If Cara is okay with it, then that's fine. Just go sit down and I'll bring you your food in a second," she said, giving the redhead a nudge away from the door, and heading back to where she had left the plates. She filled up Holly's with a small amount of food, assuming that she probably wouldn't eat much anyway, and helped herself to an average sized portion, though she knew that she could probably eat twice as much as she had plated, if she didn't feel weird about taking that much. She filled up a glass of lemonade, and carried that and Holly's plate over to where the girl sat. "You need to eat all of this or else Cara's going to feel bad, okay?" she said, her voice lacking the normal energy it usually had, because she really was feeling more and more drained by the minute. She needed that pill, because she needed her stress levels to drop significantly before her head exploded. So, rather than going back to obtain her own plate, she headed over towards Cara and said, "Hey, Cara, I have to grab something from my apartment. I'll be right back," before heading out the door without waiting for much of a response.

Across the hallway, she found their apartment door to be unlocked, and as she slipped inside, she saw that Deja's Thanksgiving seemed just as vibrant and happy and she expected it would. Her roommate was wearing a hat that looked like a turkey, and had a giddy look on her face that the other guests seemed to mirror. Thomas and Olivielle and Theo were there, and though Makayla offered them a silent wave, she continued into her bedroom fairly quickly. She wasn't here to socialize, just to get the high she was looking for. She paused for a moment after retrieving one of the pills from her underwear drawer. Nick had mentioned how she really was lucky to have him as a dealer, because he was hooking her up with the high dosage stuff for free. She didn't know quite how high the dosage was, or if it was even mildly appropriate for someone of her size, but then again, did she really care? As she popped the pill into her mouth, and washed it down with the remnants of a cheap bottle of vodka that she had hidden in that drawer, she knew the answer to that was no.

Jesse eventually sat down across from Cara at the table, and wasted no time in digging into his food. To no surprise, it was all very good, and he had no regrets about leaving his mother's celebration to come here instead. An authentic friendship between him and Cara might have seemed odd to some people, but it worked for them. Jesse already had Brooklyn, a blonde to lust over, and Tony, a hot chick with a little bit of an attitude to have fun with in bed. He didn't need Cara for either of those positions, so a platonic relationship worked best for them. Besides, despite what many people liked to think, Jesse wasn't only focused on sex. He liked people for their personalities too, and even if Cara's wasn't well-known for being likable, he found it to be. If she was such a bad person, there was no way that she would host a meal like this for people who she wasn't family with. Or, who he was now watching call over Collin, who she didn't even like. Why Brooklyn was here was still confusing to Jesse, but hey, he wasn't complaining. His taste and smell senses were satisfied from this meal, and now his vision sense would be satisfied too, by having some nice eye candy to look at while he ate. "Your brother better not be trying to move in on my woman," Jesse warned half-heartedly in a hushed tone. There was an empty chair separating him and Jude, but the distance definitely wasn't so great that the other boy wouldn't be able to overhear their conversation.

Cara didn't answer Jesse, though she, too, was not a fan of what was playing out. She set her fork down on her plate, unable to even multitask something as simple as eating with her focus on watching Brooklyn. Her eyes followed Collin as he came over to the table, and then, they followed Brooklyn as she made a very weird offer to make him a plate. "She's up to something, and I don't like it," Cara eventually replied with, though her eyes remained on Brooklyn, and only diverted away from her when she was caught off guard by Makayla's voice. "Okay, no problem," she said, somewhat distractedly as Makayla said something about running across the hall. Her eyes glanced towards the television that Holly was sitting in front of, and then back to Brooklyn. She felt the need to watch Brooklyn more closely, because she was certain that the girl was up to something that Cara wasn't going to like, but she also had a need that was nearly innate, to look after Holly. Even though the teenager appeared to be content and taken care of with her plate in front of the television, Cara felt like she needed to make sure. She picked up her own plate and glass of wine, and stood up, looking down at Jesse to say, "Make sure your woman behaves herself," in a voice that was quiet, though probably loud enough for the other two boys at the table to hear. She felt like glaring in Collin's direction, to prove some point that even she couldn't put a name to, but didn't even want to go there right now, and instead, left in a more subtle manner and headed towards the couch.

"Hey Holly," she said, her voice hosting a cheeriness that was a stark difference than how she had been speaking a moment before. She sat down next to the girl and pulled the coffee table closer to them so that she could set her plate and glass down there. "Do you like the food? And we wanted to watch the dog show, right?" Cara remembered that she had mentioned to Holly that she would try to DVR the animal show, because Holly wasn't going to be home to watch it, but she had forgotten to do so this morning. She grabbed the remote and skimmed through the channels, only to see that the re-run of it wouldn't start for another hour. "It looks like we're a little early. It won't come on again for another hour, but I recorded all of the episodes of that other dog show you like. 'Too Cute', is what it's called, right? Wanna watch that for now?" she said, already turning one of the episodes on. When it came to the television, Cara knew that it wasn't too hard to appease Holly, especially if you could find something dog or cartoon related.

Holly had only taken a few bites out of the buttered roll on her plate, but she was content with the way that that tasted, so she wasn't lying when she nodded her head to acknowledge that she thought the food was good. She did want to try the rest of the food on her plate, and did intend to at least take a few bites out of it, but she was a creature of habit when it came to food. She was usually at least a little resistant in trying new things, and even though the turkey on her plate looked plain, and similar enough to chicken, her mind was now processing the comment about blood that Brooklyn had made, and it was freaking her out just a bit. "That sounds good!" she chimed in, after washing down her mouthful of bread with some of the lemonade that Makayla had left her. Though she still wanted to watch the dog show, mostly so she could remind everyone in the room that every dog deserved a medal, and that the judges were mean for not doing so, she did like "Too Cute!", the other show that Cara was talking about. The show featured baby animals of all different types, and though Holly's favorites were (obviously) the puppies, she never turned down the episodes involving kittens or piglets, or any of the other animals, either.

Her next comment would seem random to most people, and it was random, but it wasn't a comment that was made with no connection. Holly's mind had jumped to a thousand places in between leaving Weston and this moment, but a commercial on the television before Cara switched it off featured a boy wearing jeans, and somehow that very common feature was enough to link the actor to Weston, whose jeans were still on Holly's mind. That brought her to the other part of their conversation, about his deceased grandmother, which she then connected to Cara, because the question that was on the tip of her tongue was, "If you have a family, why are you and Collin not with them on a holiday?". In a surprising move, she managed to think before opening her mouth with that one, because she knew that Cara wasn't with part of her family for a reason. Her mom was dead. It was something that had come up soon after Holly had met Cara, and given that nothing was off limits for Holly, questioning Cara on her parents wasn't too absurd. Cara had informed her that her father was alive and lived in another area of Manhattan, but her mother passed away when she was a little girl. It was unclear, even to Holly, if she was saying it to merely inform Cara, or as if it would be of some sort of comfort, but before taking another bite out of her roll she said, "Cara, Weston's grandma is dead like your mom."

Leave it to Holly to bring up something completely random and unrelated to their current conversation, in a way that could only catch Cara off guard. "That's too bad," she said, offering a sympathetically sad look as she wondered whether the Garcias' grandmother's passing was recent enough to be news, and elicit Cara having to send them flowers out of politeness, or if this was just Holly being random.

"Do you think they're buried in the same cemetery?"

"I don't think so," Cara said, smiling, though she shook her head as well. It felt strange to be talking about this with Holly, even if it wasn't the first time that it had come up. Her conversations with the teenager were usually filled with more positive things, and conversations like that were obviously preferable. Then again, it was expected, to some degree, that more awkward subjects would sometimes come up because of how curious and unfiltered Holly was. If she was thinking something or had a question, you were going to hear it and be expected to come up with an answer, right then on the spot. Luckily for Cara, talking about her mother wasn't something that upset her at all, really. She had been a child when her mother had passed away, and though she had been old enough to understand that her mother was dead, she hadn't spent that much time with her, where her absence put Cara into a depression that she would never grow out of. Lacking a maternal figure definitely shaped who Cara became, as a young adult, but not in ways that she really was able to recognize.

"Why not? They could be neighbors!"

Cara could have just let it go then, and tell Holly that she was right, and that it was possible that her mother was buried in the same cemetery as Weston's grandmother. Maybe it was because she was already a few glasses of wine in that she didn't think to just nod and agree, instead of being honest. Especially with Holly, it seemed like there was a fine line between lying, and protecting her innocence. In this case, Cara probably could have gotten away with a white lie, but at the same time, she didn't think explaining her mother's death was going to scar Holly in any way. If anything, maybe it would serve as a small history lesson. "Do you remember what I said about how my mom died?"

"Yes, you said that she died on 9/11 when a plane crashed into the building she was working in."

"Right, good memory," Cara said, offering her a smile out of praise as she paused to chew on a bite of turkey before continuing. "So when the building fell apart, there was a lot of debris, and a lot of fire, and it was just a pretty messy scene, and they never found my mom's body in all of the rubble, so she wasn't buried in a cemetery."

"Where did she go, then?"

Cara thought she had explained that well enough, but at the same time, she understood Holly's question because a lot of things with Holly were black and white. If the rescue crews didn't recover a body, it must have only made sense to Holly that her mother must have somehow left the scene. She couldn't have just disappeared. She didn't want to say straight out that her mother's body was probably smashed and squashed and charred into a million unidentifiable pieces, in all its gory detail, because even though Cara was fairly emotionally unattached from the loss of her mother, thinking about that in depth was even too much for her. Now that she was actually trying to explain it aloud to someone, she realized just how dreadful the circumstances of her mother's death really was. Like many of the other victims of the attack, there was nothing left of her after it. She went from being a living and breathing person one minute, and in what Cara hoped was no longer than a minute of agony, turned into tiny fragments of dust and bones and debris that would never be identified. "Honestly, I'm not really sure, Holly," Cara eventually said. Thinking about this made her feel grim, for the first time in a very long time, and now she truly wasn't even sure how to answer that question. "You know how if something gets set on fire, like a tree or a house, and it just turns into a pile of ashes after a while? I guess that's what happened." How somber was that? Noticing her own change in attitude, she took a nice sized sip of her wine and put on a smile, even if it was a weak one. "Maybe she's neighbors with Weston's grandmother in heaven, though. I bet my mom has a nice house up there." Cara finally started the show then (and purposely turned the volume up high so that Holly would notice too), but she couldn't help to wonder when Makayla would be back, now.

"I hope that when me and you die, they don't bury our bodies but turn us into mannequins in a store instead." Holly didn't quite know how to what Cara said, because she still wasn't completely comprehending that Cara's mother's body had been damaged to such a degree that it simply didn't exist anymore. Holly wouldn't have been Holly to not have some sort of an answer though, and she didn't fail to come up with her own interesting response this time.

"Mannequins aren't made out of dead bodies, though," Cara answered, confusion evident in her expression and voice as she glanced towards Holly curiously. Only this child... she thought, before adding, "That would be scary."

"We could be back-up mannequins in case they ever run out of regular ones!"

"People wouldn't want to look at dead bodies when they're shopping. You wouldn't want to see that, would you?"

"They only wouldn't want to see it if they were ugly dead bodies. Like when Jesse dies, no one would want him to be a mannequin, but me, and you, and Weston... we would be fine!"

"What about your sister?"

"She's probably too short. And mannequins don't have tattoos."

"Isn't she a little bit taller than you?"

"Not in my opinion!" The television show had started a minute before, featuring a litter of puppies that lived on a farm, but now, they had introduced a baby goat that lived on the same farm, and it was too much for Holly to handle while maintaining the conversation that they were having. Her attention switched over to the show fully, as she rested her fork on the plate on her lap in order to clasp her hands together in excitement. "Oh my gosh, did you see that? It's a little baby goat, and it's so cute, and her name is Pipsqueak!"

"Aw, it is cute," Cara agreed, smiling, though she was barely paying attention to the television show. Coming off of that odd conversation, she had turned her focus back to her food (and also her drink...), and in a move that probably wasn't all that deserved, she silently commended herself for putting together such a great meal. Maybe she wasn't the one to actually create such nice dishes, but that wasn't the point. She had done more than anyone else here (and yes, she was including Collin in that), so she decided that she could give herself as much credit as she wanted to.

"Don't you wish you lived on a farm with baby goats?"

"Not really." Not at all was actually the more appropriate answer. Cara had lived in the city her entire life, and though she was used to spending a few months at a time in quieter areas, like the Hamptons, she didn't think that she would ever survive in a rural setting, nonetheless one that included dirty farm animals.

"Do you think we're allowed to have goats in this building? Because they're not technically pets, so it's not breaking that rule." Although Holly was talking to Cara, her eyes remained glued on the television screen, and the way that she laughed in between sentences made it apparent that her mind was more tuned in to the television show, than it was to their conversation.

"I don't think management would like that very much. Have you ever been to the zoo?"

"Yes! When I was in third grade we went on a field trip to the Bronx Zoo with my school, and when we were there I really wanted to see the butterflies but that wasn't part of what we were going there to see, so I left the group to go see the butterflies by myself anyway but only because the butterflies really wanted to see me, and then I got in trouble, and I wasn't allowed to go on another field trip unless my mom volunteered to be a chaperone because on the trip before that, we went to a museum, and I left the group during that one too, so my teachers were mad at me for doing it twice, but then my mom didn't want to come on any field trips because she was so busy, so I didn't get to go on any of the field trips ever again! But I did get to see the butterflies that one time, so I didn't even care."

It was a longer answer than Cara was really looking for, but again, this was Holly, so she was used to, and even expecting, something like that. The content of her response wasn't all that surprising either, and Cara could only imagine that if Holly seemed like a handful now, ten or so years ago when she was even more young, energetic, and naive, she had to be all the more difficult to look after. Something in her couldn't blame that school for not wanting to be liable for a kid who had a tendency to run off whenever they left campus. "Maybe one day next week we can go to the Central Park Zoo. I bet they have goats there that you can feed, or at least look at."

"Ooooooh! That would be so fun! And I bet they have giraffes there, and maybe we could bring Deja with us too, and they would probably try to steal you and Deja because they would think you were their sisters since you guys are too tall to be people!" Although a lot of the guys on their floor were even taller than Cara and Deja, it seemed normal for guys to be tall, so Holly wouldn't have considered them to fall into the realm of being giraffe-like. Cara and Deja just seemed exceptionally tall, and maybe, too, it was because she spent more time with them, and felt like since she liked them, they should be similar to her, which meant being short. Because they weren't, they seemed all the more extraordinary, certainly warranting the giraffe comparison.

________________________________
As seven o'clock rolled around, Cara was relieved that dinner was over, and a success in itself, and that now, all that was left was dessert. Like with dinner, she laid the options out on the island counter and allowed people to pick from them as they pleased. Unlike what she was used to back at home, today's meal wasn't a fancy multi-course meal where you were served certain dishes at certain times. It was more casual and easy, and though she wasn't quite sure if she liked that better or not, overall, she was content with how the night was going. Nothing bad had happened, and she could only say that so far, since the way that Brooklyn and Collin were socializing was still getting on her nerves. She knew that Brooklyn was up to something. She just didn't know what. Maybe the way that she had to divide some of her attention to keep an eye on her and her brother played a role in how eventually, Cara forgot that Makayla had left her apartment and never returned. Maybe part of it was the wine. Likely, though, a major part of it came from the fact that Cara was so used to Holly being over on her own. Whenever Makayla had to work at night, Cara would keep an eye on Holly over here, and though she was never hosting a group of people like she was tonight, the rest of what she did with Holly was pretty similar. They would eat dinner, be it at the apartment, or at a restaurant, and then they would watch television or a movie, or Cara would help Holly with school work, or they would run some errands. It was something that she was used to by now, so in her tipsy state of mind, where she wasn't paying complete attention to Holly, it felt normal to have the girl sitting beside her on the couch with Makayla no where in sight.

When Jesse called out to her, she only then realized that Makayla was actually supposed to be there with them. She tried to recall what Makayla had said on her way out, but even then, Cara had only been half listening as she glared across the kitchen table at her brother. Did she say that she was going out to do something specific, in which case maybe it was understandable that she was still gone? Or did she say she was just running across the hall, in which case she definitely should have been back by now? Cara couldn't remember, and she wasn't exactly worried, but just confused, so before answering Jesse, she sent a quick text message to the missing girl, blaming her curiosity on Holly, even if it wasn't true.

To: Makayla
Hey! I completely forgot where you said you were going, but Holly was just asking for you, so I told her I would ask you when you would be back

Thinking of Holly, she turned to the girl, who still seemed to be mesmerized by the next episode of Too Cute that was playing on the screen. "I'll be back in a second. Want me to get you any more desserts while I'm up?" she inquired. After she received a distracted shake of the head as a 'no', Cara approached the kitchen table where Jesse was, only now, processing what he had actually said. "I don't have ping pong balls, beer pong isn't really my thing," she explained. "...Which is why, you're probably better off being your own teammate. I'll only weigh you down, and I'm keeping an eye on Holly right now anyway, since Makayla disappeared."

As the night moved on, Brooklyn slowly came to the conclusion that she needed to go through with this tonight. She would sleep with Collin, not only to hurt Cara, but to determine whether hurting Cara was what she needed to heal. If not, she would have to cope with her feelings in a different manner, but she would never know if healthier alternatives were necessary if she didn't go through with the more immature and cattier one first. Those thoughts were what initially had her leading Collin to her bedroom when Jude had conveniently left the main area of the apartment to use the bathroom, but once they were in her bedroom, she knew that here and now wasn't the time. She didn't need Cara barging in or banging on the door, and as much as she didn't want to admit it or face it herself, she couldn't imagine sleeping with any guy other than Nick in her bed. There were still too many emotions there, and having sex with someone new in a place that was sacred to her and Nick for so long just felt too raw and emotional. It was something that Brooklyn wasn't ready to deal with, so she rationed that for more reasons than one, she would have to force Tony or Dane to let her use one of their apartments later on in the night. Of course, it wasn't like sleeping with Collin was actually a plan set in stone.

Though Brooklyn had been flirting with him throughout the night, it seemed like it was only within the last fifteen or twenty minutes that he had become receptive to it. It was probably the alcohol in his drink finally kicking in, and she was well aware of that, but she didn't care. All that she cared about was that things were slowly falling into place, and she wasn't going to rush it by getting into bed with him right then and there. So, she continued with the original story about why she wanted him to come to her room with her - so that he could show her some stupid little trailer for a Broadway show that he was raving about, on her computer. She had no interest in the show, because to put it simply, Brooklyn could think of a million and one better things to spend one hundred dollars on, than a ticket to see a play, but she did a good job at pretending to think it was cool as Collin showed her. Luckily, once the clip ended, Jesse called out from the main area of the apartment, as if on cue, and though she rolled her eyes, she headed towards the door and nodded for Collin to follow.

Brooklyn's thoughts were right, and it probably was only the alcohol in his body that was allowing him to be courageous enough to even humor this attention that Brooklyn was giving him. The words that Jude had said still rung true in his mind, but now, they were ringing true in the back of his mind. Where he was happy to silence them for a little while, if it meant having a pretty girl fawn over him. "Cara sucks at beer pong. You should fill in for her, if you wanna play," he found himself blurting out immediately, as they headed down the short hallway towards the kitchen and living room. He could have told Jesse that he didn't want to play, if he really wanted to spend more time hanging out solely with Brooklyn, but he knew that Jesse had a big mouth, and if he said no to him, the guy would make a big scene out of it... or at least a bigger scene than he had already been making, about Collin being by Brooklyn's side. Then, he would not only have to hear it from Jesse, but his sister too, and that just seemed like too much of a headache to deal with. So, he knew that he had to suck it up and play a round or two of the game, but his alcohol-impaired mind felt that it was imperative to try and include Brooklyn somehow.

"And have to kick your ass?" Brooklyn responded smoothly, a small smirk forming on her face as she allowed her hand to fall to her side, before sliding it just close enough to Collin's that her fingertips danced across his skin momentarily. "Come on, Collin; I'm trying to butter you up. Crushing your manhood right now won't be good for what I plan on doing to it later tonight," she said, sporting a coquettish smile as she offered him a wink, before pulling her hand away from his as they reached the more public area. Though Brooklyn was well aware that she had not been secretive in her flirtatious behavior with Collin throughout the night, this was the first time that she was outright admitting that there actually was some sort of real intention all of that behavior. "You go play your silly game and find me when you're done. I have someone to chat with until then," she said, nodding her head then, towards the couch that was now only occupied by Holly.

Collin simply nodded, but mostly because he didn't have much time to get a response in before Brooklyn was already heading towards Holly. At the mention of ping pong balls, Collin headed into his bedroom, only to reappear a few seconds later with two white balls in his hand. In the kitchen, he rolled them across the table to the other side, where Jesse stood. "Let's hope you're better at beer pong than you are at 'winning it all' in real life," Collin said, half-playfully, though the mere fact that he was even challenging Jesse in partial seriousness signified that he was definitely under at least a little bit of influence of the alcohol, now.

The television was a magic cure to Holly's ADHD, it seemed, and though Brooklyn would normally savor every bit of silence that was offered when Holly was around, now she was bored, so surprisingly, she found herself wanting to interrupt this. "We're not watching this boring animal shit, Holly. Let's put on something good," she said, situating herself next to Holly on the couch, and helping herself to one of the cookies on the plate of dessert that Cara must have brought over for Holly a little while earlier. She grabbed the remote from the table and began to skim the channels, until she found the movie Elf on one of them. It seemed like overkill to not even wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start playing Christmas movies, but in this case, Brooklyn wasn't complaining. Elf was a pretty good movie, and she could deal with it for now. Once she was seated and comfortable (only growing slightly uncomfortable at the realization that her glass was nearly empty now, and she was too lazy to get up to refill it), she texted Dane back, and texted Tony as well.

To: Dane
If I invited you, there would be less free stuff for me

To: Tony
Are you going to be a good friend and leave your door unlocked, or do I have to sucker Dane into letting me use his place?

Holly normally would have been vocal about her objections to Brooklyn changing the channel when she was in the middle of watching something that she liked, but Jude's departure distracted her, and by the time she refocused on Brooklyn, that was what she felt the need to comment on. "You shouldn't let strangers kiss you. Not even if they're just trying to be friendly. Makayla said so," she said, matter-of-fact-ly. After she had finished picking at her dinner, her energy levels had steadily declined, and probably noticeably so, since she had not left the couch since then. Being occupied by the television played a role in that, but additionally, she was growing tired. Seven o'clock was early for even her to fall asleep, but in her defense, she had been awake since around six o'clock this morning, and had walked nearly seven miles throughout the day with her sister. The few cookies that she had eaten, and the two cupcakes that she had expertly licked all of the vanilla frosting off of gave her enough sugar-induced energy to keep her awake for the time being, however.

"He's not a stranger. He's a friend," Brooklyn justified. Even if he was a friend, though, Brooklyn couldn't say that she liked Jude touching her. Being touched at all was something that made her feel very uncomfortable, even if it was being done in a playful manner. Usually, it was the quickest way to piss her off, so Jude was definitely lucky that she was in a decent mood tonight, or else he would have received a strong punch in the arm as a rebuttal for that.

"If he's a friend then why was he was talking to you like he was your mom?"

She had to roll her eyes now. She had caught Holly's attention, which was a feat in itself when she had the television to compare with, but she had also caught Holly's attention when she wasn't in her incredibly-extra, happy-go-lucky moods, and she knew that that would be interesting. "How was he talking to me like he was my mom?"

"He told you what to do." Requesting that Brooklyn "be good" wasn't really as much of a demand as Holly was spinning it to be, but she still felt like it was necessary to inform Brooklyn that Jude probably thought he was in charge of her.

"Do you think I should go find him and tell him to fuck off?" Brooklyn pressed.

"No, that would be really dramatic," she said, shaking her head as she scrunched her face up in distaste.

"Should I go find him and tell him that you think he should fuck off?" It spoke to how bored she was, or at least how much she liked trouble, in how she was purposely pushing Holly to see how far she could take this, until she got an amusing reaction out of her. It would have been quite easy to leave the girl alone, and let her relax and surprisingly remain off of everyone else's radar, but Brooklyn never liked it when things were that easy.

"Should I go find Nick and tell him that you were kissing other boys?" Seriously, Holly did not even mean for the comment to be as much of a low-blow as it probably came out to be. She didn't understand disses on that level to realize that she had just made a good comeback towards Brooklyn's antagonizing behavior. However, she knew what she was saying enough to an extent where it seemed like a comparable threat to Brooklyn telling Jude that she had said something she had not. She didn't say that she thought Jude should fuck off, just like she knew that Brooklyn wasn't really kissing other boys. Additionally, she was aware that Nick was no longer Brooklyn's boyfriend, but it would take more than a few weeks for Holly to actually let go of the image of them being a couple, since for as long as she had known them, they were one.

Ooooh, someone's feeling bold today. That remark definitely caught Brooklyn off guard, and even though she doubted that Holly truly meant it in such a stinging manner, it was the unexpectedness of the comment that made the surprise of it all the more solid. She raised an eyebrow, somewhat impressed by the girl, even if the quip was made at her expense. Now how the hell was she supposed to respond to that? She could have suddenly switched sides, and chided Holly on how that wasn't funny, but Brooklyn knew that would be too hypocritical. She could take what she dished, especially if it was only coming from Holly. "You definitely should. If I give you my metro card and his address, will you go tell him for me, or were you just talking big and you won't really do it?"

"I'm too tired today."

"I knew you were all talk, Holly. Go ask Cara to call him, and you can tell him from her phone." Because I'm sure that bitch has him on speed dial.

Holly wasn't even trying to avoid the conversation when she switched it up and with a frown, said, "You ate my last cookie." She had caught a glance at the plate that had slowly went from having a few things left on it, to being empty, and with her mind wandering, it was what she wanted to focus on now.

"There's a million more in the kitchen." A million was an overstatement, but she was barely being dramatic at just how much food was currently in the kitchen. It was baffling that Cara thought she would somehow need ten different pies for a small dinner, but at this point, Brooklyn knew better than to waste her time questioning the girl's frivolous ways.

"But Cara picked that one out just for me." Her voice neared a whine, and especially considering that realistically, she wasn't even hungry enough to eat another cookie, it was a signal that she wasn't even lying when she said that she was beginning to get overtired.

"Oh my God, even you aren't fun tonight Holly," she groaned, tossing her head backwards onto the soft pillows of the couch. She looked across the room, towards the kitchen, in hopes that Collin might be by the drinks, but he wasn't. She wasn't necessarily against calling out to him anyway, and asking that he bring her another drink, but given his distance, she knew it was quite possible that Jesse would insist on doing it himself, and she really wasn't in the mood for him right now. The easy solution would have been for Brooklyn to get up and do it herself, but she wasn't in the mood to do that, even more.

"I'm tired." Her attention had drifted back to the movie now, as she kicked off her shoes so that she could pull her legs up onto the couch to get more comfortable.

"Fine," Brooklyn shrugged, as if she were giving up on her quest of antagonizing the girl, but not without nonchalantly adding, "But I hope when you fall asleep tonight, the Terrorizing Turkey of Thanksgiving pecks your eyes out."

"What's that?" she inquired, now looking away from the television once again, as her expression changed to one of confusion, skepticism, and even a bit of fear.

"You've never heard of it? Well, you've never eaten turkey before, right? So before now, you had nothing to worry about, but The Terrorizing Turkey of Thanksgiving is an evil turkey who hunters have been trying to kill for years and years. He's so big, that his meat would feed an entire city if someone could kill him. But no one can, because before anyone can even get close enough to kill him, he kills them first. Rumor has it, that he comes after people when people fall asleep after eating their first turkey dinner, as a way of warning people that they should stop eating turkeys like him. I heard that he starts by pecking your eyes out until yours eyes are nothing but holes in your face. Your whole face will be dripping with blood, and then he'll move on to your--"

"You're making that up!" she interrupted, partially to silence Brooklyn, because she didn't want to hear anymore of that, and also in an attempt to convince herself that Brooklyn was making that up. Even Holly could recognize that that sounded too fantastical to be real, but Brooklyn's voice had sounded serious and Holly was known to be naive, so there was definitely still a part of her that was nervous that she was telling the truth.

"Why would I make something like that up?"

When Brooklyn refused to offer the reassurance that Holly needed, that what she had said was just a made up story, Holly jumped off of the couch and hurried towards the kitchen. "Cara! Brooklyn said when I fall asleep tonight, a giant turkey is going to come and peck my eyes out until I die!" It had taken longer than she intended, but at least now, Brooklyn could smirk to herself and feel like her job was done, as she now turned her attention to the television. All she needed now was her drink, and still feeling lazy, she opted to pull out her phone to get that done.

To: Collin
Bring me a drink, my love?

To: Tony
Leave me some condoms too, but make sure you poke holes in them first. You know those child support payments would be worth it

Initially, Jesse was ready to protest when Cara claimed that she wasn't interested in playing, but then Jude bailed, and it was only him and Collin left. Jesse was completely content; happy, even, with Jude leaving, because it meant that he had one less person to compete with. While he was always interested in pursuing Brooklyn, it definitely was worth noting that his thirstiness was dramatized tonight because of the competition. If he had Brooklyn alone, he would have felt a lot less of a need to crush any other guy in the area, but his competitive nature was taking a hold of him, and was telling him that Jude and Collin were making a mockery out of his name by trying to run him out of the "game" like this. Jesse was normally pretty relaxed, but he didn't take well to being challenged, especially in a manner that he didn't find to be playful, and especially when he had alcohol in his body. That was why, it took a bit of restraint for him to not come for Collin after his smart remark, and he opted instead to say, with a deadpan glare, as if it were nothing short of a promise, "Forrester, I'll kick your ass in beer pong, in 'winning it all' and right here and now in 'real life', if that's what you want. I'll destroy you on any one of those courts. Just say the fucking word, my man."

He was irritable now, and he found himself kicking back a rum and coke faster in just a few seconds worth of time, as Holly came bounding into the kitchen with a complaint about Brooklyn. "Would you get her out of here now, Cara? Shit, I thought this was going to be a party, not a daycare center." Why he had become irritated to this degree so quickly, was hard to really say. Collin and Jude definitely had something to do with it, especially now that he felt like Jude had disrespected and dismissed him by leaving, and his sexual frustration probably had something to do with it to an even greater extent. "Send her home. Makayla plays you like a fucking fiddle to get you to deal with her 'special' sister for free. You've gotta know your worth better than that, Cara. You're not her little bitch. Prove it. Get rid of her so we can actually have fun tonight." Even though now he was sure that no one would want to play with him, he busied himself while talking with filling each of the cups on the table with beer. If Collin wanted to back out because he was offended, Jesse would certainly use it as a reason for why Collin was an even bigger bitch than he thought him to be at that moment.

Cara and Jesse's friendship wasn't one that many people would assume right away. She had a reputation for only associating with people of a higher class, and at least in her mind, all that she needed to know about him was that he was a garbageman, to decide that he certainly wasn't at that level. They were different, and because she adhered to social standards so strictly, their friendship was unlikely, but it was real. Ninety-nine percent of the time, Jesse was very pleasant to be around. He always kept it real with her, but he was funny, and a good listener, and always able to make conversation about just about anything. Though she saw him in a strictly platonic light, he had a personality that often had her thinking that even her dad would like him, because he even had that much charm in him. In fact, Cara had only seen Jesse in one of his more hostile moods on one other occasion besides this one, and it had barely even counted, because it only involved her passing him in the hallway as he drunkenly yelled obscenities at whoever was on the other side of the phone call he was making. It had alarmed her, yeah, but it was easy to laugh about the next day, because it didn't really affect her. To be standing here now, dealing with him threatening her brother, and more importantly, absolutely tearing into Holly for no reason whatsoever, was completely inappropriate and it disgusted her. "Get out," she stated immediately, walking over to where he stood by the kitchen table. For now, she had to ignore Holly, because dealing with Jesse seemed like a more urgent matter over reassuring Holly that there was no monster-turkey, or that what Jesse said wasn't true. When Jesse wasn't moving fast enough for her, she placed a hand on his chest and gave him a light push towards the door. "Get out, get out, get out. You just crossed a line, so now you can leave," she demanded, pushing harder until he was walking backwards towards the door.

In the back of his mind, Jesse knew that Cara was right, and he had crossed a line in being so abrasive and verbally aggressive (at least with Holly standing right there), but right now, he didn't want to consider that. He wanted to be angry and outraged, as if he was being wronged for no good reason at all. Even though he was clearly pissed off, he could still think clearly enough to remind himself that one: Cara was a girl, and two: Cara was his friend. Those were the only reasons that had him allowing her to literally push him out the door. He didn't walk without trying to vouch for himself further, all while probably digging his grave even deeper, though. "Are you fucking kidding me, Cara? You're really gonna play me like that, for speaking the truth? Woooooow, okay. Whatever. Just make sure your bro knows I'll kick his ass tomorrow, if he still wants to talk big." He was overreacting, because nothing that Collin said was even comparable to the things that came out of his own mouth, but again, that wasn't something that his brain was considering right now.

Cara was tempted to not say another word to him at all, because there were no words for how he was acting. It was like something snapped in his head, or maybe one too many drinks hit his system, and suddenly he went from being fun to being some aggressive macho-man who wanted to rip everyone to shreds. When they reached the door, and she gave him one final push into the hallway, she said, "You're really disgusting when you get like this. I hope you can realize that after you sober up or calm down or whatever is wrong with you."

"I'm not even drunk," he said, shaking his head and looking at her like she was brain-dead. "You need to learn how to take a fucking joke, but whatever. Don't say I never tried to help you avoid your bro fucking the girl who wants you dead." His quest to sleep with Brooklyn wasn't necessarily being done to save Cara from the aftermath of Collin sleeping with her, but he could add the noble spin on to it for now, since it fit his narrative.

"Goodnight, Jesse," she said, unimpressed and un-bothered, though once she slammed the door shut, her tone began to show that she clearly was bothered. "And on that note, everyone else is free to leave as well. The party is over, so other than Holly, unless the two of you plan on cleaning this apartment, you can see yourselves out or into your rooms until I'm done cleaning." She didn't know who deserved to hold her gaze more at her next remark, so she looked from Brooklyn to Collin as she added, "And I hope you're glad that you ruined the entire night. I'm sure that was your plan all along, so just know that you accomplished it. All I wanted to do was put together a nice dinner and just have a relaxing night, and you two had to destroy it in every possible way."

If there was anything that Brooklyn could agree on with Cara tonight, it was that what Jesse said was uncalled for and inappropriate. Even she was surprised by the sudden switch in his demeanor, but as she turned her head to watch what was going down in the kitchen, from the safety of the living room couch, she assumed that he wasn't suddenly going bipolar, or something, but was just acting abrasively out of frustration. She was sure that the lack of attention she was giving him had something to do with it, but even Brooklyn wasn't conceited enough to think that her actions had that much power over anyone. Maybe he really just was very intolerant of Holly, even if her cry for Cara's reassurance had nothing to do with him. Maybe he was intoxicated, in which case she would have to roll her eyes at how much of a lightweight he must be. Maybe, however, there was something more behind it. Spending Thanksgiving with a bunch of friends who weren't that close to you, meant that you didn't have many (or any) other enticing traditional family offers. While Brooklyn had come to terms with her own situation long ago, she knew that not everyone else was as cold as her. People couldn't turn their emotions on and off like a light switch, so maybe Jesse was stressed out, or frustrated, or upset, even, that this was where he was on a holiday that was based around being thankful for family and all. It didn't excuse his behavior and it definitely didn't make him seem any more attractive, especially as he kept up with it as Cara pushed him out of the apartment, but Brooklyn wasn't going to crucify him for not being the relaxed and go-with-the-flow guy that even she could admit he normally seemed to be.

Since technically, it had been her fault for sending Holly over there, Brooklyn felt obliged to get up now and enter the scene that she might have caused. It seemed like something she was morally obligated to do, but also, Collin had not read her text yet, and she didn't feel like waiting any longer for a drink. "Boys are stupid, Holly. They don't know anything. Never believe a single thing that a boy tells you, ever," she said in a certain tone, as she busied herself with refilling her glass in the kitchen. She completely brushed over Cara's direct complaint towards her because she definitely hadn't done anything to ruin the night. As far as she felt, she was actually well-behaved given the circumstances. This was just one more instance of Cara trying to act like she was the victim in a situation where she had not been wronged at all, and Brooklyn didn't even want to humor it.

Holly had come into the kitchen in search of reassurance that what Brooklyn had told her was nothing more than a myth, only to find herself at the center of an unexpected verbal assault by Jesse. The fact that it was so unexpected was probably a good thing, because combined with her tired state of mind, and how she was still focusing on what Brooklyn said, it was harder for Holly to process every word that came out of Jesse's mouth. She knew that he was being mean to her, but the cursing and some of the insults didn't resonate as much as they would have, had this occurred a few hours ago. She was confused about it all, and her expression reflected that as she watched Cara force Jesse out of the apartment, before coming back to announce that the night was over and ruined, and that Collin and Brooklyn needed to leave. Brooklyn seemed to act like she had not even heard Cara, though, confusing Holly a bit more, and addressed her instead. Even though Holly didn't think that Brooklyn's blanket statement over boys was completely true, she nodded, only to make herself feel better. A few hours ago, she would have countered the claim to say that Weston was a boy, and he wasn't stupid, but she was too tired to do so right now. "Is Makayla ever coming back?" she said then, only now realizing that her sister had been gone for quite some time. She wanted her sister to return not only to make her feel safer, but because by now, she was actually ready to go to bed. It was still quite early, even on Holly-time, but the events of today left her feeling more lethargic than normal days.

"Get your shoes and we'll go see what's taking her so long." Brooklyn was still planning on going through with her plan involving Collin, and she sent him a sultry smile from across the room to signal that he wretched sister had not ruined her vibe, but she could put that on hold for a little while. She would act like she was helping Holly because she had a heart, but really, it was because she didn't want Cara to think that she was the philanthropist in all of this for taking care of Holly for the rest of the night. She didn't need the other blonde giving herself any more pats on the back than she already did. She didn't want Cara to jump in and insist that Holly stay put, so she was glad that Holly moved surprisingly swiftly in meeting her by the door a few seconds later. With her refilled drink in hand, Brooklyn was content with changing the course of her plans for the moment, but once she opened the door, had only wished that they had moved a bit slower, because Jesse was still outside the door. Roman was there too, which was reassuring for more than one reason. For one, Brooklyn hoped that Jesse was more likely to act cooled off around his roommate, and secondly, Brooklyn was just happy to see Roman after it had taken him hours to answer her text message earlier. She had assumed he was sleeping, and was probably right about that, but still, she was just glad that he was alive and awake now, even if it was a little too late. "I told Collin that you were probably coming over to get food," she lied to him, ignoring Jesse entirely. "Holly and I are just going to see what Makayla's up to, but I'll be back in a minute if you wanna go in and make a plate or something," she said to Roman as she passed by them. Because she was with Holly, and didn't want to even risk Jesse opening up his mouth again, she didn't give Roman much time to answer as she headed a few doors down, to the one that Holly and Makayla lived behind. Since she was with Holly, she felt no need to knock, and opened it with little caution as she gently pushed Holly to enter first. Inside, she found Jude, Olivielle, Deja and Thomas. "Is her sister here?" she asked, placing a hand on Holly's shoulder, as she looked mostly towards Jude, since she was the one she knew best.

Jesse was annoyed when Cara closed the door in his face, but he wasn't about to slam on the door and demand to be let in again. While he was pissed off, he wasn't angry -- at least not by Jesse's standards. An angry Jesse only usually emerged when he was very intoxicated, and it was a form of him that was easily identifiable, because it usually involved him throwing punches at anyone who looked at him the wrong way. It wasn't a common side of him at all, and he didn't think that anyone in the building had ever even seen him in a state like that, but it was certainly one that existed somewhere deep inside of him still. This Jesse was one that wasn't anywhere near that point yet, and since he hadn't drank much, there was still time for him to recover. He could still have a good night, or at least that was what he told himself. He still had Deja's as an option for tonight, and Tony's as well, since he didn't know that she was getting ready to head over to Deja's as well. Besides, if things got really bad, Jesse wasn't opposed to having a few blocks over to one of the many bars that he was sure would be open, even tonight on a holiday. Being dismissed in the way that Cara and her brood had done to him had definitely put a damper on his evening, since he didn't want to admit any fault in it happening, but he wasn't going to let it ruin his evening entirely.

Roman's appearance caught Jesse by surprise, slightly, but mostly only because he hadn't seen Roman all day, and had actually assumed that he had slept overnight somewhere else. It wasn't really uncommon for them not to cross paths, even being roommates. Roman worked a lot, and seemed to be out a lot at night, and asleep during the day, and Jesse worked full time during the day, and did his best to be social and out-and-about on his free time. Regardless of not frequently actually hanging out with Roman, he found him to be a compatible roommate, if only because he was never problematic. "I'd say you've got a point one percent chance," he offered, releasing a sigh in an attempt to mellow himself out. "Cara's in one of her moods. Just told me to leave for basically telling her brother that Brooklyn's way out of his league. You'd think she'd thank me for doing her a favor, but I'm over it, man. It's always the hot chicks who are the crazy ones." He was going to continue and explain that he was heading to Deja's next, and extend the invitation to Roman then, when Cara's door opened. He assumed that it was going to be someone answering Roman's knock, but instead, Brooklyn and Holly emerged, and quickly, in passing, Brooklyn explained to Roman that he could go inside to get food, and that she and Holly were going to find Makayla. "I still think she's going to bite your head off if you try and go in there right now, but that food was worth the risk. It was a good fucking meal, and she has enough leftovers to feed the tri-state area for the next month," he offered, though he still doubted that anyone going in there would be a good idea. In his mind, if Cara was so serious tonight, to an extent where she would lash out on him, there had to be something majorly wrong with her that was making her act like she had a stick up her ass.

Before Brooke opened the door, Roman listened quietly to Jesse's venting. He was mostly reactionless except towards the end when he couldn't help but raise a slight brow to himself at the notion of 'hot chicks.' He wasn't sure if he was referring to Cara or Brooklyn and quickly ran through a dialogue in his mind that he pressed silent on. Roman wasn't stupid. He knew both girls were pretty, and since he didn't particularly care about Cara, it didn't mean much of anything when other guys declared it. With Brooke, it was mostly the same and he wasn't going to punch anyone who called her pretty, but because she was close enough to a sister to him, he also didn't exactly enjoy those declarations either. Still, though, he wasn't overprotective in the physical sense and the most he ever gave in terms of a reaction was a small look, if that.

As if on cue, Brooklyn and Holly emerged into the hallway before just as quickly disappearing. He turned back to Jesse and shrugged some as he grabbed the door knob. "Even better for the both of us. No need to stay for twenty minutes out of politeness," he said. Jesse was probably right that as soon as he walked in he'd hear something for it, but he'd already made it this far and by this point, a simple sandwich just didn't sound appetizing when a full course meal was just feet away from. Before he got the chance to go inside, he heard Tony's voice. At her question, he thought for a second, decided he'd had more than enough conversation for the evening and that he really just wanted to get something to eat. So instead of offering Tony the truth, hoping to keep things short, he answered with a short, "Nope," and disappeared into the apartment.

When Roman was gone, Jesse looked to Tony then. Part of him wanted to give as simple of a response as "nope" too, but he was also closer to Tony than that, so he knew that he had to give some explanation for why he probably looked annoyed. "Your friend Brooklyn's been stirring the pot all night, and somehow Cara found a way to blame me for it. You gotta learn how to keep your girl on a leash, Tones, and while you're at it, make sure she's got my number too, alright?" He smiled, trying to prove to her that he wasn't as tense as he probably seemed, and to himself as well. "Time for Deja's?"

Sam didn't know either of the boys that well, so when her and Tony encountered them, she just grinned and waved a little with her free hand. "Hey, boys," she said. When Tony told her to head on in, she nodded. "Sure thing. I'll try to save some for you," she called, before heading into the apartment.

"Guys, I'm here, we can finally get this party started!" Sam called. When she spotted Holly, though, she was a little taken aback. Mostly by the fact that she was accompanied by Brooklyn, not Makayla. She'd never thought Brooklyn to be the type to look after Holly. Or anyone but herself, for that matter. But Brooklyn had always struck Sam as the type of person who'd be more likely to yell at Holly over small stuff than, you know, actually look after her.

"Hey, Holly! Did you have a good time? Cara cooked for you guys, right?" She asked, putting the jug on the counter and leaning against it. "You here for the party, Brooklyn?" She added, keeping her tone light. If Brooklyn was going to be sticking around, Sam was going to need to drink a lot more alcohol to get through the night. She grabbed a cup and poured herself some of Tony's jungle juice, taking a sip out of it. The way she liked it- strong, yet still tasted somewhat good.

Olivielle looked up as she heard the door open. Two new arrivals, Holly and Brooklyn.

β€œOh, Hiya guys.” Live said with a smile.

"Is her sister here?" Brooklyn asked

β€œOh…ah I think she--” Olivielle started to speak when suddenly the door opened again .

"Guys, I'm here, we can finally get this party started!" Sam said as she entered the apartment. Olivielle gave her a small wave before turning her attention back to Brooklyn.

β€œSorry…I think she went back to her room. She ah… was a bit…wobbly” Liv said trying to hint without outright saying that Makayla was beyond lit. She didn’t know the extends of Makayla and Holly’s sisterly bond but if Holly where Liv’s little sister she wouldn’t want Holly to see Liv as messed up as Makayla was.

"Hey, Holly! Did you have a good time? Cara cooked for you guys, right? You here for the party, Brooklyn?" Sam asked.

β€œI’ll set up some music” She said lamely as an excuse to step out of the way. She made her way to the kitchen to pour herself a drink.

Too many people. Liv tended to get somewhat anxious around crowds, possibly it was a case of claustrophobia? She wasn’t sure, but when there was too much going on she tended to feel awkward and constantly in the way. She poured herself a bit of vodka and orange juice before fleeing again to the living area. She found the closest window and opened it to let out some of the heat. She turned Pandora on her phone. She set it at a low volume so conversation was still possible. Lady Gaga’s John Wayne came on and she grinned. She loved this song.

β€œ3 am, mustang speedin'
Two lovers, headed for a dead end
Too fast, hold tight, he laughs
Runnin' through the red lights
Hollerin' over, rubber spinnin'
Big swig, toss another beer can
Too lit, tonight, prayin'
On the moonlight”
Liv sang to herself as she swayed to the music and sipped her mixed drink.

She would just have to occupy herself while they figured out what was going on with Holly sine they couldn’t very well play strip poker with a child in the room. She watched everyone with a amiable smile, not sure what to do with herself.

________________________________
Brooklyn was very tempted to look Sam up and down once or twice and let her know that this crew definitely wasn't the type of people that she partied with, but she held her tongue. She disliked Sam for personal reasons, and though most days she was civil towards her (only because they rarely saw each other), there were other times when Brooklyn didn't care to be anything other than raw and honest... which usually meant being unnecessarily bitchy. Now wasn't the time for that, though. She had to figure out this situation with Holly, which, according to what Olivielle said, was probably going to be more complicated than Brooklyn had expected, and then she had to link back up with Collin. She also knew that she needed to make sure that Cara didn't sever Roman's head off for walking into their apartment with no real invitation from the hostess of the Thanksgiving meal, but that was the last thing on her to-do list. Since her own interests were barely involved in that, it was the thing that she cared about the least, even if Roman was one of her few true friends. "No," she eventually answered Sam curtly, though she pushed Holly towards her just a bit, before looking at the redhead and holding up her hand while saying, "Stay," sternly, as if she were a dog. What Olivielle had said had given Brooklyn some idea as to why Makayla had uncharacteristically disappeared from the party, and even she wasn't cold enough to want to just throw Holly into whatever was going on in Makayla's room, without at least checking it out on her own first.

She was tempted to chide Jude for leaving the party, since his departure coincidentally occurred right when everything blew up, but she was attempting to be on good behavior for the moment, so she kept her mouth closed as she left Holly in the kitchen and made her way down the hallway where the bedrooms were. She had been over to this apartment only a handful of times, and always (usually against her own will) with Holly, so she remembered which door was her and Makayla's. Without knocking, she walked in, only to find Makayla in bed smoking a joint. The window was open, and the room was cold, but the scent of weed was still evident in the air, especially since Makayla didn't seem concerned with where she was blowing the smoke. The sight of this, in itself, signaled that something was wrong, but also made Brooklyn roll her eyes. As much as Brooklyn liked to trash talk Makayla, it was hard to seriously deny that she was extremely responsible for someone her age. Makayla was a couple years younger than Brooklyn was, and yet she was raising a kid that wasn't even hers (and as far as Brooklyn knew, wasn't biologically related to her at all), while that kid definitely had some special needs, and doing that all while supporting both of them, with little help from anyone else. Brooklyn's youth wasn't picture perfect either, but at Makayla's age, and even to this day, Brooklyn had a bad tendency of partying too often, especially given her line of work, and just generally being irresponsible sometimes. This was the first time that Brooklyn had ever caught Makayla slipping, and that said something. Because it was so unusual though, it was also more difficult for Brooklyn to even think about how to deal with it. After sizing Makayla up one more time, Brooklyn closed the door behind herself and said, "You look comfy. Where's Holly?"
