"Am I a vigilante or an entrepreneur? Hmm... Maybe I'm both..."
Gideon generally does not trust anyone but himself to do his smuggling operations right. He usually gets paid in goods instead of money, if at all, but that is to be expected since most of his clients do not have much to begin with. Not that he minds, given he is conducting business most locals avoid. When he needs a little extra cash, though, Gideon will deal with small busniesses and even farms who wish their goods be transported safely to the market. The small firms profit from the goods that make it there, and he profits from making it all possible. Should any gangster try to take his clients' things (or even loved ones) they want safely delivered to their destination, the thieves, bandits and kidnappers all end up the same way: shot between the eyes.
When not on business, Gideon can usually be found at a coffee shop or in his modest little house. The women at the local speakeasies are attractive, but not exactly wife material. He usually goes for the more decent ladies close to his age. This can sometimes place him at odds with his smuggling profession.
Gideon carries two pistols, one he used to avenge a girl he came close to dating, the other he picked up from the corpse of the girl's killer. He cherishes both weapons because of the meaning behind them. They come in handy, too, whenever he encounters a guy looking for a fight.
Gideon's start was actually from his days not considering smuggling. There was a girl, named Ruth, who volunteered at church. Gideon is personally an agnostic, but he could not help but fantasize about her. Hey! A man can dream, can he? That same girl tried to convince him to try doing something for the betterment of the community instead of always gambling at a speakeasie. He came close to asking her out when a man with a gun intruded upon holy ground for the refugee who was given sanctuary after giving up on mafia. When Ruth refused to give up the refugee after citing Matthew 25:31-40, she was shot, and died right in Gideon's arms. This angered the young man more than anything else. Outraged and wanting revenge, he used the money he gained from gambling for the pistol which took the killer's life.
Since then, Gideon tried to honor Ruth's memory by using the skills he gained from his quest for revenge to help people who were less fortunate than him before the incident that changed his life forever. The method of doing so is not exactly how she would want him to do it, but hey! It works!
