It didnât take Ambrose long to get home; he was more so rushing to get out of Hunt territory than rushing to get back to his family, knowing if they knew where he was there would be many questions and he wasnât sure how exactly he would answer them. His sister didnât say much over the phone besides bringing up the Hunt family, so he was a bit intrigued about all that was going on, especially with the recent actions of his sister against the Huntâs eldest son. Along his ride home, his sister texted him about where he was and what was taking him so long, Brody quickly replied with a message talking about traffic, but he only was a few minutes out now.
Brody pulled his motorcycle in the garage and closed the door behind him, leaving his helmet on the shelf before walking inside. After quickly entering, he could hear the conversation about the Hunts had already started with his family, mostly yelling between his sister and their parents. âAre you kidding me? Talks about peace?! We should be out there taking what is ours, not playing fiddle with them.â Brody heard his sister yelling out, pounding a fist on the table. âIt is just talking. No concrete deals.â His father retorted just as he turned from the hallway. âWait wait wait, peace? With the Hunts?â Ambrose asked, confused about all that is going on. Over the next few hours the Maione family discussed what was going on and their plan. Ambrose and Maddy actually agreeing on something for once.
They got everything situated and began heading to the abandoned trainyard, the meeting spot for this meeting. The Huntâs were always the type to try to outshine and show they are better than everyone with their professional fancy suits, while Maioneâs did show a care for fashion, during their âworkâ they knew suits were not the right thing to wear as they easily got damaged and dirty. Each of them wearing their more signature look to the meeting. Ambrose with a simple leather jacket over a shirt and a bandana covering the lower half of his mouth, something he wore often during his familyâs work, though people could still read his expressions through his eyes. Maddy wore her studded jacket she wore everywhere, adn their parents wearing similar outfits. Also under them all were a bullet proof vest that they had recently acquired from the shipyard.
While they traveled together, the family didn't all take the same vehicle to the location, in the off chance it was a trap they would have options for getting away. The majority of their guard traveled in an SUV leading the convoy, a second SUV behind them held Brodyâs parents, his sister drove herself in her Bentley, and Brody followed behind riding his motorcycle. As they pulled into the trainyard, the two SUVâs split apart, with Maddy parking on the right behind their parents and Brody circling around a bit as Maddy and the parents got out and started walking towards the others. It wasnât until Brodyâs father raised his hand that he pulled his motorcycle up next to his sister and got off of it, running his hand through his hair and making sure his mask was positioned on his face.
When he looked around he noted the number of men the Hunts had brought, and two things caught his attention. The eldest son was here, which surprised him a bit after what Maddy told him, and the second was that the youngest son was also at the meeting. He hadnât seen him much involved in the business, and now he knew why. It was Eli.

He resisted the temptation to just shove his hands in his pockets and mimicked his brotherâs stance as the Maiones approached. They never seemed to have the same finesse that the Hunts liked to display, instead trying to come across as intimidating by looking like every pop culture gang ever, down to the girlâs ridiculous and over the top studded jacket. One of them even had a bandana over his face. Eliâs eyes skimmed over each of them in term, reading them. The younger members of the family seemed to be unimpressed and not likely to co-operate. He wasnât convinced any of them were really here for peace.
His eyes flicked back to the man with the bandana again. There was something almost familiar about him, a feeling that made Eli uneasy. The man seemed off, like something had rattled him though, and Eli wondered if they could use that to their advantage. He made a mental note to watch him particularly closely throughout the meeting. His own father stepped forward and began to speak, saying how both sides were suffering heavy losses and how a peace treaty would benefit them both. Eli watched the other family carefully, reading every reaction.

It didnât take long for the meeting between the two families to start. Ambrose stood off next to his sister, not talking much to the other family., letting his parents do most of the talking to the Hunts. Even though he was next in line, Brody tended to stay out of the spotlight, Gerard, the next in line for the Hunt family took more control than Amrbose ever would during these meetings. Maddy threw out a few snarky remarks here and there, and every time Ambrose would just tell her to be quiet, which made her roll her eyes. It wasnât until Gerard retorted, calling her a little whore that finally brought words out of Brodyâs mouth. âHey! Donât talk to her that way. Unlike her, I wonât miss the shot.â He shouted from beneath his bandana.
âAmbrose. No need for threats.â His father quickly, trying to shut down anything before things escalated. âThat wasnât a threat father, it-â Brody started talking, but a glare from his father shut him down quickly. âHoney, go take a breather.â His mother quickly said to him. This was one of their many codewords the Maioneâs had set up, his mother didnât actually want Brody to take a breather, but to step away and do some scouting around, in this scenario, see if the Hunts set up any sort of trap. He faked an eye roll and an out loud sigh of a deep breath and walked off to the side and quickly out of sight between some train cars.
Brody stayed light on his feet as he snuck around, not wanting to be caught too far away from his family. He expected their rivals to send someone to look for the missing Maione child, and would be a bit disappointed if they didnât if he were to be honest, and dumb on their part. But he wasnât worried, right now he just cared about gathering some information and any possible threats that may be coming their way. While his parents were content with speaking about peace and a possible truce, Brody and Maddy werenât as optimistic, both expecting a sort of scuffle going on.
There wasnât anything out of the ordinary around the trainyard, it was starting to seem like the other family didnât bring any tricks up their sleeves or ambush plans, even though they got to the location first and this particular location was their idea. As Brody climbed down a ladder off of a train car, he heard the sound of a can getting kicked and quickly turned with his gun towards the sound. He froze for a second seeing it was Eli, subconsciously lowering his weapon a bit, not saying anything.

As the matriarch sent him away, Eli already knew what his order would be. He slipped away as quietly as he could, going to follow him. He knew how this worked now. He was to go and follow them, and make sure they werenât setting up any sort of trap. Eli was the best for going undetected, knowing how to stick to the shadows and how to go undetected.
But the familiarity of the other man had rattled Eli ever so slightly, and he was a little off form. As he watched the Maione climb down from a train car, Eliâs foot nudged a can and sent it rolling away from him. He swore silently to himself, going for his own gun. But the Maione didnât shoot for some reason, and so Eli didnât either, keeping the gun pointed squarely at the manâs head.
âCome on, then. Youâve got me all alone, why the hesitation? You too afraid?â Eli said, knowing that provoking this man was probably the best way to get him angry and throw him off.

Eli was the last person Ambrose wanted to find on the outskirts of the meeting. Why couldnât he just stay with his family? He spoke to himself inside of his head, sighing out loud. He listened as Eli spoke, taunting him, trying to tempt him into attacking. âIâm not afraid of you. Youâre just your brotherâs and fatherâs lackey, hence why I haven't seen you out and about. You barely do any family business.â Brody responded harshly. He wasnât exactly trying to get on his nerves, but he just spoke what came to his mind. He didnât appreciate being called scared, especially when he knew this Hunt wasnât as involved as he was. âSo the real question is, are you afraid?â
Brody wasnât worried about Eli. From the vibes he felt during their time together, and from not seeing him with the rest of the Huntâs he didnât expect him to just shoot him right then and there. Plus, a gunshot would raise suspicion and probably derail things at the meeting. But right now he just had to worry about keeping his composure, keeping the secret that Brody was the one who spent the night with Elliot. Brody spoke again, not giving room for a reply after his rhetorical question. âRegardless whether you're scared or not boy, you arenât going to do anything about it. Your family cares more about this than mine, therefore youâre probably told to behave.â A smirk followed Ambroseâs words, and while the bottom half of his face was covered, his eyes gave away the wicked expression. He quickly and smoothly in one motion lowered and holstered his gun, then fixing his jacket and tugging on the collar.
âNow. Donât follow me, wouldnât want to rough up that pretty face of yours.â Ambrose spoke and followed with wink before he turned his back to him. He wanted up keep up the facade of just being a Maione family member, and not deal with whatever would follow Eli finding out the truth. He took a step forward, to return to his task he had before being interrupted, he still wasnât 100% the Huntâs didn't set up an ambush, and it gave him more time away from the meeting and Elliot.
But as Brody began walking around he felt a grip on his shoulder stopping him, and more so out of reflex, he turned around quickly throwing the arm off of his shoulder and pushing the man back. He shoved a bit more rougher than he intended to, but he didn't appreciate how Eli was being. Why couldnât he just understand Brody is trying to not hurt him. âYou donât want to do this Eli.â

But there was something almost disturbingly familiar about the other man, and Eli couldn't put his finger on it. It unsettled him greatly, though, and he didn't like it. It was something about the man's eyes, though. Eli didn't quite know what he was thinking when he reached out to grab the other man as he went to walk away, but it was almost a reflex. He wasn't sure what he was expecting and wasn't surprised when his hand was roughly shoved away, but that thought was quickly pushed away as the other man called him Eli. And suddenly, with a sinking, nauseating feeling in his stomach, he realised why the man was so familiar. Ambrose. Brody.
"Brody?" He asked, his voice barely louder than a whisper. He didn't wait for an answer, instead taking a step backwards. "Oh my fucking god." His voice. Those eyes. His mannerisms. Eli didn't need to wait for an answer. Instead he turned and began walking back towards where his family was, back towards the meeting, away from Brody. He felt vaguely sick at what had happened. Because he'd really liked Brody, and for he'd felt somewhat optimistic about things maybe working out. But if he was a Maione, all of that was impossible. Completely impossible.
