a character in “Civilisations”, as played by TheThirteenth

Description

Name: Neredeskiova Tribe

Continent: Europe

Surroundings: Hilly region filled with rivers, and a few mountains. An abundance of surface minerals lies at the water and edges of hills, which led to the quick progression in metalworking.

Personality: The general spirit of the people is to work hard, and never lose sight of what's important. A lot of the people are friendly to each other, with the leader himself friends with some of the children. Ideas are quickly spread throughout the tribe, and morale is usually high.

Beliefs: That everything, whether it be trees or animals, has a spirit of its own. However, to contact these spirits, meditation must be undertaken (usually by the older members of the tribe).

So begins...

The European tribe begins to expand throughout the hills, with huts being built on top of hills as primitive watchtowers, spearmen spending long hours on top of those hills. Meanwhile, food is beginning to become limited to fish and rabbit as fruit stops coming through and hunting methods not devised for larger game.

The Neredeskiova, after spotting a group of foreign scouts, consider sending out a small party to see what the intentions might be of these people. Also, with food becoming low, the leaders and the smarter minds of the tribe come together to see what they could use as an alternative to rabbit and fish. Someone suggests trying to grow the fruits and animals in a guarded area of some sort. As rabbits and such can be easily caught, everyone agrees and celebrates this breakthrough. Large trenches filled with water are used for the fish, and shallow holes with tall sticks surrounding them are created for rabbits.

The exploration party, armed only with basic spears (a long stick with a sharpened stone attached with twine to one end) see some strangers coming from the watch tower towards them. The leader goes forward with two guards on either side and offers them the food basket. At the village, the stone huts have been finished and they are now putting all of their effort in making more bows and arrows, as at the moment only a few have been made.

The three that met the new party consider their position, deciding that an attack would be less helpful in the long term, and plant their sharp wooden spears into the ground, quickly devising a way to offer peace; leaving their weapons in the ground and taking the food basket, walking away silently but respectfully. Should the newcomers attack, this would be considered a despicable act of cowardice, and if they make no inquiry or objection, the men decide this is a peace offering.
Meanwhile, at the village, the new animal farming is going splendidly, with huge squares of dirt being used for this purpose. A few think the animals should be made at home, in case the gods would be angry as well as their pity for the animals. Many think the fish and rabbits are simple-minded creatures, and no change is made despite tensions rising slightly.

They made no objections or inquires, and let the strangers walk off. They wait for them to come back.
The people at the village, having made almost 50 bows and more than 500 arrows, are now training with them to shoot more accurately. They want to organise an army, in case there's a war, and so 50 bowmen and 50 spearmen are now training everyday. However, some of the elders of the village say that they should never go to war, and not prepare for it either.

Hate between those who pity animals and those who don't rises a little more, and twenty people leave the village angrily. Meanwhile, the Mind Council (a collection of the most influential and smartest people of the village) decides that the tribe's leader should have a personal, handpicked bodyguard of the finest warriors. The craftsmen get to work, trying to find out how to make stronger weapons, while young men are given the choice to sign up for the bodyguard applications, a rigorous although rudimentary training course being constructed.

(I am really sorry guys, I didn't think you had posted)

The tribe puts together a small parade for the newly appointed bodyguards. The population of the village grows to 290, and there are much more farmers trying to feed their families as well as the rest of the tribe. Agricultural output goes up slightly.
Meanwhile, along with their spears, the soldiers are given short stone sticks that are sharp at the end, and trained to use their spears for throwing so they can use these instead. Nobody spots any scouts outside the village.

The exploration party has given up and are now on their way back. What the leader doesn't know however, it that the youngest one has decided to stay back and infiltrate the other tribe's village. Meanwhile, the people at the main village have decide to begin building wooden houses, and the first stilt houses are being constructed. The village now has a northern area of about 100 stone huts, an eastern area with a small forest and the new stilt houses, and a south-eastern area of farmland.

The guards, having spotted the infiltrator, proceed with standard reaction rather than a smart plan; they throw their long spears at him and then hurry down the rudimentary walls to charge at him with short-spears.
Meanwhile, the parade slowly finishes and the general happiness of people rises. A slightly extra rise in population occurs.

The guards shout and insult the fleeing scout angrily, keeping a firm line as a few began to pick up the food again. A few villagers, stunned by what they have witnessed, began to tell others about the scout that tried to steal food. An atmosphere of mistrust and anger starts to arise, targeted towards the Mesopotamians. The Mind Council, somewhat pressured by the crowds demanding war and punishment, begin to calculate a decision. The guards are put on high alert.

The Mind Council comes to a conclusion. They will not declare war on the other tribe, but decide to prepare in case of a misunderstanding that would lead to conflict. The civilians eagerly prepare throwing spears for the soldiers, and someone suggests wrapping dry grass into thin squares that they could tie to the end of spears for a touch of fire. The civilians test it out, and see that despite some problems, the fire lasts long enough for fighting.

While this happens, a strange insect is found eating away at the crops of farmers, but the farmers merely locate the nests and carefully smoke their breeding grounds out, and cut the infected crops before throwing them away. The insects are very small, however, and may return.

As the three scouts (of the Tadshoan) do not respond, the four remaining members of the exploration party decide to finally return to the main village. While returning, the see the dead body of the other member and hurry on to tell the main village that they may have made an enemy. At the village, the roads have been finished and now they simply decide to build more houses. They are still waiting for the exploration party, which has been gone for some time (maybe months, maybe years). The village population, which increases mostly because of many babies being born but also due to a lot of wanderers deciding to settle down there.

With a prepared army, the town gets to naval exploration; the first early type of boat has appeared, leather over a wooden frame, and small groups of these set out on the closest river, catching fish along the way.
Meanwhile, the first pickaxe, made of stone and a wood handle, is created. However, nobody knows what to use rocks, other than regular stone, for. This leads to a great emphasis on mining.
Finally, the Council has come to a conclusion; to be battle-ready, and have all troops ready to attack within five minutes of an alert.

The exploration party returns after two years. They have with news of two other distant tribes. The scouts, since they have seen a lot and been to many places, are given a place among the village elders. The people also decide they could use the help of animals for farming, and so the taming of various animals has begun.

After finding bronze, and managing to use it to their purposes, the tribe prepare a settler party for a second tribe, which will be escorted by forty men. Arable and pastoral farming booms, especially with the new fish. Due to a feeling of security and being well-fed, the populace booms. With no problems concerning the people, the Council gets to focusing on metal industry. They decide that what metal can be found will be converted into shields for infantry or used, in the case of the elite infantry, for psychological touches to armour; decoration and shaping would change the metal to appear as if the soldiers have such large muscles it causes strain. Another detail would be making the helmets into masks that could potentially scare the enemy. Thus, all metal goes into this, and hope for no war spreads throughout the civilization...

Due to the peacefulness, nothing really happens other than the settler party leaving for another location. Farming goes along smoothly, and community within the people is closely-knit. However, that's taking quite a wide view. There is the issue of economy, and equality. Some troops threaten shopkeepers, due to arrogance spurred by the status of the military, and that there is no currency used yet. So, the Council decide to start an economy based on stone discs that would be given out as payment for work or to be used in buying things. As well as that, they invent a code of honour- 'serce ลผoล‚nierza' that would put troops back in line.

The second settlers finally find a nearby stream, surrounded by patches of woods and small hills. As this is considered ideal, they settle down to form a second village. Back at the main village, a young soldier decides to see if he can establish a strong connection between the two tribes; he thinks this could turn the tribes into a war machine capable of conquering the world, or perhaps just humble friends. And so, he sets off for the second village.

Farming in general is staying at an average, but someone proposes a more efficient way of storing food; a granary. That way, food won't have to go out at the first notice, and could be stored conveniently. Of course, it'd have to be guarded. So, construction is made for the granary, but this brings up another idea; a general stockpile for materials could be useful. The latter is also started.

While the granary and the stockpile start nearing the end of construction, something very peculiar shows up in the copper mines; a red, shiny, transparent stone. It appears to be useless for metal-working or construction, as it is both rare and too hard to be worked, but it does have a strange attractiveness to it. The people decide this is a sign, and leave it to the Council. The stone is deemed a 'Spirit-Rock' that will bring great fortune.

Meanwhile, a new but horrifying weapon is created- a fume shell. The smiths found a way to combine and hold certain gases to create one lethal mixture, which causes damage to the victims. These shells are kept in secure copper-stone crates in a hidden location. After testing it on various animals, it is discovered that the fumes inside the shells cause breathing problems and vomiting (the animals, out of pity, were killed).
