"We don't know the origin of this pathogen, and we don't know what's yet to come. The people of the United States should advise themselves to find any hospital or to simply stay within their homes. As a result of the events that have occurred throughout the course of the past few days, the disease has proven to spread rapidly. I regret to tell you as of midnight on the 10th of December, over eighty percent of the world's population is reported and assumed dead. It is estimated that the death toll will continue to rise.

While the news is devastating not all hope is lost. Some of us are surviving, we have never been a speices that would go out quietly, we can be resilent and resourceful. So I task those of you still alive with one essential purpuse: Live. Survive. Thrive.

If you believe in a higher power, ask for guidence. If you don't, believe in your fellow man. You, the survivors, have the chances to start anew, to keep this world alive. I know, what I ask of you is not easy, for you all are the most unlikely survivors, but it is your duty. Do not give up, do not lose faith. The CDC is working very steadily on a vaccine. All we need to do is stay calm and avoid any sort of panic. Fear spreads faster than anything. It's that simple. God bless and goodnight."

-- President of the United States

Introduction/Plot:

The Virus spread. Billions died. The Ending began. We may have survived the apocalypse, but the Virus changed us. All of us.

When people started getting sick, they thought it was just the flu. Everyone got sick, no one was immune. You should have died--with the rest of the world--but you didn't. While you thought witnessing the human population almost disappear off the face of the earth was the craziest thing you'd ever experience, you were wrong. So very wrong.

The Virus changed everything. The world you knew is gone, and life is backwards. We've all had to start over. Most of us have been stripped of our homes, our dreams. Everyone is broken and changed. The aftermath of the Virus has stranded you. Now you must trust strangers, making sacrifices, kill -- you'll have to do anything to survive, because not everyone who survived is still sane. Fear and pain may be unavoidable, but you're strong...we're survivors. To continue surviving in this unfamiliar world plagued by Crazies and strange new abilities, we have to adapt. We have to evolve.

It started out as a simple flu, spreading quickly like H1N1 once had. Those who became sick fled to the hospital, the one place they thought their chances of survival would be best. They were so very wrong. The virus spread quickly through the hospital, building up the body count so high that the CDC had to step in a quarantine all of the hospitals. Nobody could leave, and nobody could come in. They were foolish. The body count rose because no one got the proper care they needed. Doctors and Nurses were the first to go.

In a short span of one week, the world crumbled and fell apart, all because of one virus. As the body count rose to the 50-thousands, people began to riot, trashing stores and cities. Everyone took to the streets and wrecked havoc. On Friday of that week, the Crazies made their first appearance. They had made it through the worse of the virus, they had someone managed to pull through, but the fever did something to them, it wrapped their minds. They killed and destroyed. Everything really did fall apart.

It's been two months since mankind crumbled and the last broadcast, promising hope, stopping airing. Now there are rumors of a colony in california, promising sane survivors a chance at the new world. It's your job to push through, from wherever you are, and make it there, so you can fulfil the presidents last wishes and help rebuild mankind.
You have survived The Ending, but what about After The Ending?

Rules

{ Reservations }

Please reserve characters in the OOC. I won't accept any random submissions, no matter how awesome they are. Also, this is not a first come, first serve role-play and you might have to compete for your spot should another person show interest. If you reserve a character, they will be chosen based on creativity, depth, length, and originality. The more creative and detailed your character sheet, the more likely you'll get accepted, I will not accept anyone with a seriously lacking character.

{ Literacy }

As far as Literacy goes, if you cannot make a proper sentence, please do not join this role-play. While I do not expect you to be an advanced literate role-player, I would expect you to know how to use spell-check and have basic grammar skills Not only will I be looking for detail in your character sheet, but proper grammar and spelling as well. This role-play is to be literate, meaning posts are to be kept at a minimum of 200+ words. I know we are not perfect but at least try to be semi-literate. As for reservations, What face claim are you going to use for your character? The code for reservations is your favorite quote and who said/wrote it, and find a way to tell me what your favorite color is without making it obvious. I want to see who reads the rules and who doesn't.

{ Commitment }

I am aware that we all have lives outside of role-playing and our computer screens. Some of us either attend school or have a full-time job, sometimes both. All I ask is that you post at least twice a week. If, for any reason, you find yourself unable to post for x-amount of time, please notify me. I do not bite, I understand exams are around this time of the year (I have them myself) and that all of our schoolings end at different times, but at least try to stick around.

{ Growth & Fun }

This role-play is meant for you to grow as a role-player and hopefully expand your writing skills as well, and we also want this roleplay to grow, if things go as planned, if we finish this roleplay I will make a part two for it, so this kind of ties in with commitment, I might even go a RP before the world ended. Just have fun with this, okay guys? I want everyone to enjoy themselves, and I do NOT want the rules to stop any of you from joining, it may seem like a lot, but really, when you get down to it, it's not.

“Memory's are all that matter in the end.”

Diary Entry 1#

It's been so long since I've seen another Human. I can feel my social skills and mind slipping. It's been two months I think. I don't know, I stopped counting the days a long time ago. If someone had told me earlier that I would be one of the last few alive, I would have laughed in their face. The World was once so full, it seemed impossible that so many people would be gone so fast.

They had even ran out of room to bury the dead. The last hospital I went to - after the End - at first I was so confused, there was no one in there. No dead. Not in any of the rooms. The Voices told me they turned into Monsters. I knew they were lying. When I got to the court yard all of the bodies were piled up real high, almost to the top of the building.

We don't know who did it. The Voices are getting scared, but I'm not. No no no. I'll protect them, they can trust me.

There's a girl walking through my town. She's been here for a few hours. The Voices told me she was bad, so I trapped her in the cellar. They want me to kill her. I think I might. They say she's tainted, that she'll try to hurt us. I don't know what to do. I want a friend. Maybe she can be my friend.

In time.

- H. H

The sun would soon begin to peak above the horizon, signalling the start of a new - frigid - day. The wind whipped every which way, throwing around small snowflakes in different directions. The trees shook with the wind, making the forest seem like it was shivering from the cold. The only noise came from the wind.

The high way near the large cluster of trees was littered with unmoving cars and the occasional body that had been picked over by the wild life that has taken over recently, however, what lay within the cars was much worse than what was outside. The rotting bodies of the once sick were locked within. The deceased withering away.

The silence was deafening.

It's been two months since mankind crumbled and the last broadcast, promising hope, stopping airing. Two months since The Virus wrought the world and turned it inside out. Two months since billions died. Two months since the world seemingly ended. Two months. Two months and this is the world we were left with. Because none of them were strong enough to pull through it was now up to us to fix things - to rebuild and start over.

We were left with a rotting, death filled, crazy inhabited wasteland, and told that we had to keep going. It wasn't fair, but this was all we had left. This silence. Our story takes place here, lately, though there are few survivors, there have been rumors of a colony in California. This colony is accumulating survivors, keeping them safe and giving them a place to call home. They want to start over, to rebuild the world.

What we must do is simple. Survive, get to the colony in California, and take as many other survivors with us as we can. We are starting out in Milwaukee, Wisconsin we will make our way to California. Some of us are alone, some of us are not, some may be searching for lost loved ones.

It does not matter, we all must survive, and to do so we need each other.

Soon we will all be united together, a group of able bodies and strong minds. We will get to California, or we will die trying.

"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat determination and hard work."

Still...silent.

The usual sounds and sights of the ever busy world Vince had known were now distant, and almost nonexistent, memories, lost in the aftermath of the virus he had only just recently learned about. He knew of the bug going around, but when the correctional facility was placed on lock down, everyone was cut off from the vein of information that would spell out how serious the situation had become. He wasn't prepared for the world he had stepped out into less than a week ago, no one could have been prepared for this. Overnight, it seemed, the world had gone silent. Silent, and still, as calm as the four graves before him, now piled mounds due to the snow over the past few days.

Vince had dug the graves himself after arriving at his mother and step-father's house. His mother...he had known she had become sick and had more than just a feeling that she had passed on. Haley was next to her, they did everything together and it was no real surprise when he found out she had gotten sick as well. Her visits to the correctional facility had dwindled and then ceased shortly before the lock down. Courtney filled the void as she began to show signs as well, too stubborn to abandon his family and go to the doctor to get herself looked at. But at the same time, smarter than Vincent to realize the hospitals were worse off than dying in the comfort of a home. The fourth grave was a curiosity, a man leaning dead against the fence in his parent's back-yard, snow up to his chest. It was too hard to say what killed him, but Vincent couldn't leave him there.

Noticing his hands had begun to turn a wicked shade of purple, Vince pushed himself from the ground to stand and walk to the house. The acrid smell of death still present in the air, it was no wonder he had chosen to stay in the shed over the passed day or so. He pulled up the thick scarf he had wrapped about his neck and covered his nose and mouth. He may have survived the virus, but that wasn't the only one present in the world, and he had overstayed his welcome. It was time he moved on.

Reaching into the thick coat pocket, he pulled the scrap of paper from his pocket with the address scribbled on it.

1170 W. 31St St.
Los Angeles, CA 90007
Apartment 12

It was Jamie's address for her school dorm. The letter he had found inside the house had been from her a few months before this had all started. His youngest sister had contracted the virus first out of their entire family. She had survived though. Courtney had told him that some people were naturally immune to viruses, so maybe his family would be lucky. The graves bounced into his mind once again as he remembered the words. Shaking his head to dispel the thoughts, he grabbed his stuff and headed toward the door. California was a long way, and he'd never get there by wishing things were different.

A look outside nearly made him second guess the trip, or at least delay it. Snow was still coming down, even if not as vehemently as the clouds suggested it would, and everything was layered with ice and sleet. His step-father's car was gone, where he had no idea. Hopefully the man had finally driven himself off the side of a cliff, or into a wall at least. Courtney's car was still in the driveway, but the little Accord was pointless in this weather, even if its battery wasn't as dead as the rest of the world. "What I wouldn't do for a helicopter right about now....." He said aloud, a bit amused at the thought. He had never flown a helicopter, but he had jumped from enough of them to watch the pilots and get the general gist of things. How hard could it be?

Even with the absence of any living creature that he was aware of, Vince still moved as if he was under constant observation, his military training pounding discipline into his every movement. It may have seemed a little silly to anyone who could see him considering the lack of anything at all left in his path, yet he would be justified if anyone could actually see him. Regardless, he needed supplies if he was to make the trip. The majority of everything would be improvised as he went, but one thing was needed before he set out.

The convenience store wasn't in the greatest shape, but that was unsurprising considering the state of things at the moment in the world. Looters had obviously been there at some point, but everything was still once more in his vision. Even still, he made a thorough check of the perimeter while being obscured from sight by the snow. Doubtful of there being anything of real use, he was still hopeful as he made his way to the door that he might find something edible to stock up on.

The glass on the door was already broken, as were most of the windows, and the place was in shambles. Slowly pulling the door open, he made one last check behind him as he prepared to walk in. At that moment, due to the ice and preexisting cracks in the glass, accelerated by the motion of the door, a large portion of the remaining glass came loose and tumbled to the hard floor beneath. The shattering was earsplitting in the dead silence of the world, even with the damper the weather provided. Cursing under his breath, he did the only thing he could do and moved into the store, knowing there was little reason to take the sound into concern, but instinctively letting his eyes and ears do their thing as he waited a moment to see what the sound might draw.

“The best way to not get your heart broken, is pretending you don't have one.”

"Wonderful! The stupid tire already went flat! Great, just GREAT!.". Kris said as the Mountain Bike that slowed down in the middle of the road. His voiced echoed through the soundless streets of the town, as nothing but the chirps of birds and crickets could be heard. Not a single human soul in sight, besides the mindless insane beings who appeared from time to time. It was amazing that how a bustling city could instantly go silent in what seemed like no time at all. Kris got off and dropped the now worthless bike onto the ground, hearing it clang against the pavement of the road. The pavement was covered in a slick sheet of ice and it was a miracle that he was able to ride the bike for what seemed to be a mile before the bike slipped and he fell hard on the ice.

Walking on foot was the last thing that Kristopher wanted to do but it was his only choice now. All the cars and stations have been siphoned of the gas that they contained, and his sorry excuse for a Mountain Bike wasn't doing him much good. He also had no real clue about were he was, as disaster seemed to strike while he was away from home. For two months he just went with his gut feeling and wandered aimlessly around, looking for any familiar landmarks that give him an idea of were he was. It was around that time he found the bike, and after fixing and pumping the tires was able to finally get somewhere. So he is now. Stuck in the middle of the icy road while snow continuously pelted him, were no sense of direction. Kris let out a heavy sigh as he bent down to pick up the bike once more and walked down the road.

When he reached what seemed to be a reasonable place for resting he was covered in snow from head to toe. He laid the bike against the wall and sat down on tile floor of the convenient store he found. He had already searched through what he could and found next to nothing remaining. Kris knew he wouldn't last longer in this town and with the little supplies that he had he would have to get moving again soon. He just wished that it would stop snowing soon enough, and that his bike wasn't a useless piece of trash right now.

A dull, lifeless town filled with nothing but emptiness and silence was where Jade and her older brother, Victor were traveling through. It was a small town, only had about 50 people lived in it. It was early, around 9:00am and the sky was grey with dark clouds about to drop more heavy snow over the two. Jade sighed as she looked up watching the grey clouds slowly move about the grey sky. She couldn't remember the last time she heard any other persons voice other than her brothers. Speaking about her brother, Victor walked ahead of Jade grabbing onto the straps of his backpack as he did. He was silent, didn't say a word since last night. The only thing he occasionally did was make a small tornado of snow in his hand before freezing it and turning it into a beautiful spiral cone that he just casually threw onto the ice covered pavement to shatter.

To Jade though the shattering was amplified by her enhanced senses which made her cringe her teeth. The young woman had the enhanced eyesight down but she was still a bit of a novice with her other enhanced senses. " You hungry? There's a convenience store up ahead." Victor was the one to break the silence that filled the air so thick. " Starving, but are you sure they might have food?" Jade answered back as she pulled up her black scarf over her lips muffling her words. " Don't know, but were gonna find out."

The two carefully made their way across the slippery, icy street before Jade took her routine position to check if any crazies were inside or nearby. The huntress kneeled down and closed her eyes for a second, focusing on any unusual groans or high pitched, deranged screaming but nothing was heard inside the store or a good 3 miles away, only the birds chirping. Opening her eyes, Jade got up and gave her brother a nod. " All clear!" she shouted as her brother came out from behind an abandoned car ready to shoot a frost blast at anything or anyone that Jade could hear or see.

" Alright, let's go inside." with that the two made their way inside, Jade making a face as she passed the broken, blood stained glass of the front window of the convenience store. Upon entering the place itself was in bad condition, it had been ransacked but it wasn't a surprise to the two since it was the only convenience store in the town. Victor stepped over broken bottles and empty potato chip bags as he looked around for any sign of food. Jade did the same but she actually had some luck. From behind the counter she pulled out a bag of beef jerky and a can of storebrand soup. " Score! Hey Vic, look what I found." By this time Victor had disappeared into the back and Jade grew a bit worried when she didn't hear him respond back. Hopping over the counter, Jade tip toed down an aisle, her heart racing as her breathing quickened a bit. " Victor? " As she rounded the corner of a shelf all she saw was a flash of royal blue which was victors coat as he jumped out holding a freshly killed rabbit by the ears with a huge grin on his face. " Heheh, look what I just found!"

Jade huffed angrily that her brother just scared the living daylights out of her but a smile soon crossed her lips as she rolled her eyes before laughing . " Damn you, you almost gave me a heart attack! Now lets cook that sucker up! " Victor nodded with that grin still plastered on his face as he placed the rabbit on the counter and headed out the door. " I'll be right back, you know the routine, block up all the windows with what you can find and look for anything else we can use, 15 minutes this time okay? If i'm not back by then pack up and leave." with a simple nod Jade hugged her brother tightly before watching him go. In this world right now, every time you stepped outside it was life and death and there was always a chance that when Victor stepped out that door, that Jade would never get to see him again.

5 minutes in and the young woman managed to push two shelves over to the big front windows, covering the broken window too. Letting out a yawn Jade began to look around again and to her surprise found 2 lonely cans of beer and a bottle of water sitting in the fridge section of the store. " Hell yeah! Thank you whoever is up there! " Jade quickly swiped the three beverages and set them on the counter. 10 minutes into it and Jade had found a half roll of duct tape, Half pack of cigarettes and an a mini bottle of mouth wash. " Well it's not much but it's still better than what we found last time." she said to herself as she began to skin the rabbit with her hunting knife.

Victor crossed the icy street looking back a few times to see his sister watching. Giving a small smile he headed into the forest that was literally right across the street from the store. As Victor walked threw the forest looking for firewood he took this time to take in the wonderful snowy scene in front of him. The trees were beautifully covered in white powder and enchanting icicles hung off the branches, glittering as the sun hit it. He breathed in getting nothing but the crisp, piney smell of the forest and all thats in it making him relaxed.

Victor needed some relaxation right now since these 3 weeks have been hell. Him and his sister couldn't find any food and lived off of the winter berries, edible plants and bugs. He was use to it since he had training like this in the military but when it came to bugs his sister was squeamish even though she's a hunter herself, just like him. Their mother taught them a lot like how if they get lost in the wilderness, bugs and plants become your new best friends and showed them what bugs are safe to eat and which wern't just like the plants. Oh how he missed them...how he missed everyone. A stray tear trickled down his face as he quickly wiped it away and snapped back into reality focusing on the task at hand. 10 minutes went by and Victor finally found some good, decent sized dry wood to bring back.

It only took him 3 minutes to get back to the store where he lugged in the wood and set it in the middle of the room. He was greeted by the warm smile of his sister that reassured him that he wasn't alone in this quiet world. " You skinned him? " he asked but as soon as he finished Jade picked up the skinned and cleaned rabbit from the counter. " Yup, all done." she set it back down pulling her gloves off with her teeth. " Oh and look what else I found." she almost sung as she placed her gloves on the counter and reached behind the counter pulling out everything she had found. " Shit! Is that beer? " Victor quickly perked up rather quickly as he reached out and grabbed a can from her hands. " Oh gods, I love you Tala!"

A half hour later Jade and Victor sat on trash cans that were turn upside down so they sat on the bottoms. A nice sized fire was in the middle where the rabbit was impaled and hung over the fire getting cooked. Victor reached in and took the rabbit off taking a piece of plastic and laying it on there as him and his sister stripped away the meat from it's once furry body. When the two had finished Jade already had her coat off and her black v-neck sweater was revealed. She handed one of the beers to Victor who popped the cap and chugged half of it down. Jade did the same but instead of chugging she took a few gulps savoring the gold liquid. " Ah~ we were so lucky today brother." Jade's irish accent was a bit stronger as she spoke and relaxed back into her coat that laid on the floor behind her.

The two always waited till night to begin to move around because of Jade's night vision it was a stealthier and safer way for them to travel, they thought so anyway. Rolling onto her side Jade was quickly out like a light even though it was only 11 in the morning. Victor looked over to his sister and pulled his coat off covering her with it, it's not like he needed it anyway. The only reason he worse clothes was to keep up appearance in front of other humans because he didn't feel the cold even though his body temperature is cool like ice, literally. The young man laid back onto the broken, dirty tiled floor also and began to drift off, the last thing he saw was the warm orange glow that reflected off the ceiling from the fire before he was out for the day.

"I have been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better shape."

― Charles Dickens

The smoke coming from under the car's hood wasn't a good sign. "Oh, no. Please, don't do this."Katherine all but begged the truck as if it would actually help, as the car started to jerk, then stop all at once. She leaned against the steering wheel with a sigh. "This is just my luck." There was a yip coming from the back seat from the black Labrador, Loki, who seemed to be agreeing to her statement. She had found him in a small apartment, few towns over. The poor thing had been left alone, his owner probably died in a hospital since there were no signs of anybody dieing inside. Luckily, Loki wasn't starving since the cabinet where the dry dog food was kept had been left open. He was about one year old and well trained, from what Katherine could tell, and since she was a dog lover leaving him there was out of the question.

There was nothing she could do; the car engine was dead. She took her backpack from the passenger seat and got out of the car, then opened the door to let Loki out, too. "Come on, boy. We are going to have to walk." Loki jumped out and stretched, before he run to sniff around. Katherine fastened the backpack on her back, and took a woolen hat from her jacket pocket and put it on. She also had matching gloves, but apparently they weren't fire proof and since at that time she wasn't in that much of a control of her new found ability, she had accidental burned them. Since then she stared practicing how to control it and she found out that if she concentrated to warm her hand up just a bit she didn't even need them anymore. After Loki relived himself he came back to Katherine's side and patiently waited for her to start walking toward the town.

Oh how Katherine used to love snow. As kids, she and Keaton would be outside all day making snowman and having snowball fights with the neighborhood kids. They didn't mind that their cheeks and noses were red from the cold, it was like it didn't even bother them. Their mother could only lure them inside with hot cocoa and freshly baked cookies, but even that didn't last long, they would shortly go back outside with their tummies full. But now the snow didn't bring up those happy feelings it once did. The cold seemed to seep deep into Katherine's bones, the wind howled and moaned as if it was mourning the people that had once lived in this new ghost town. The snow covered streets that were not that long ago full of people stood empty; it was so eerie that Katherine expected some kind of a monster to jump out from one of the back alleys.

Aside from the wind, her own footsteps and the occasional bark from Loki, everything was silent. She kept looking around, feeling as if eyes were following her every movement, which was probably just her imagination. At least she hoped, she wasn't looking forward walking into crazies or worse, those guys. After all it wasn't that long ago that she had escaped the group of looters that had attacked her. About three weeks ago, she had woken up in a warehouse of sorts after she had been knocked out by one of them when they sneaked up on her. When they tried to have their way with her, the panic and anger that she was feeling somehow triggered something in her. One moment she was trying to push away the face of the guy that was towering over her, and the next he howled in pain when her palm connected with his face. It was hard to tell who was more surprised by her new found ability, her or the guy who now has a burned hand print on his face. In the confusion she managed to steal their car and escape, but there was no telling when they will find her after all they didn't really look like the forgiving and forgetting kind of guys.

Next to her, Loki whined and nudged her right hand before licking it. "I know, buddy. I'm hungry, too."Katherine scratched him behind his ear, than looked around searching for a store. It had been about a day since they ate the last remains of their food supply, which wasn't much to begin with, and even though she kind of got used to very small amounts of food in these two months, she still needed to have more energy to walk since now she doesn't have a car anymore. "Let's go check that store out. Maybe we'll find something for you at least" The store wasn't in a very good condition. The door and the windows were broken and there was glass and trash all over the floor. Some of the shelves were turned over, and it was obvious that looters had been in here, if the empty shelves for alcohol beverages were any indication. Loki was one lucky dog, since it seemed that since the world went to hell, nobody seemed to bother to stock up with dog food. Katherine took a couple of cans of some kind of stews and and two smaller bags of dried dog food, since the bigger bags would've been way heavier for her to carry. She finished putting them in her backpack when suddenly there was a sound of glass shattering from the front of the store. Katherine ducked behind one of the shelves just as Loki started to growl, alerting her that they had company.
