Crash: The Beginning
A Prequel and the Third Installment of 'Crash'

Crash
Crash II: The Replacements

Bordeaux, France: April 19, 1455

When you hear the phrase 'witch trials', most think of the Salem Witch Trials where many women and men were accused of being witches and working with the devil. They had to admit to witchery, and if they didn't they were hanged, which was the most common. However, before this took place, some aren't aware that this happened many years before as well, across the Atlantic in Bordeaux, France.

In this French town, that was reasonably larger than most, there was a small group of people. They, unlike most people that lived here, had no specific religion. Although most of the witch trials across the world hadn't begun yet, this one town began to notice the behavior of this group. Since a majority of the townspeople were Puritan, they had a firm beleif that if a person wasn't going to church every Sunday and didn't pray, they were not a wholesome person. This group of people lived on the edge of town, all in a tight group of homes, somewhat secluded from the rest of the town. They almost seemed to be forming their own town, only going into town to get food and such.

Image

People of the town began to wonder about the group. They would be very quiet, and some townspeople reported that they would give them creepy looks and would mutter things to themselves. Once this news began to spread across the town, everyone knew. They would run away and refrain from making eye contact with any of the people that were called a witch. Soon enough after, some of the teenagers and a few of the adults began to claim things like seeing one of the witches over them in their nightmares chanting things to them. One woman even went to the lengths of saying that a woman went into her room at night and stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

Once the judge of the town heard of these, he began to convict any man or woman that a regular church goer claimed to be a witch. After all this was over, twelve people were convicted of witchcraft. The funny thing was, that these people were, somewhat, witches. The group was formed after two villagers who were brothers realized that they had unnatural powers. They could shapeshift. They soon realized that it was because of an adventure they had went on when they were six and seven. They had ventured into a dwelling in the woods near the town and had discovered a cave full of blue, shining crystals. When they were touched, you gained these powers and soon enough, if you continued to touch them, you received them for good.

Once the boys figured this out, they returned and took many of the crystals back to their home. When they grew up to men, they began a group of select individuals that they could trust, and soon enough they all shared the same powers, learning to control them and even shapeshift into humans within the village.

Now that the group is convicted, they are going to escape the town jail before they are hanged in front of the village for not admitting the practice of witchcraft. Once they are free, they will make their way to the shores where a small ship will be waiting to set sail to a better land. This is where the story begins. Where we finally understand who these people that have inhabited the mysterious island in the previous chapters of Crash.

You Need to Know...

If you haven't guessed already, there are other parts to this story. There is an original Crash(link above). This part followed a group of survivors of a plane crash that wash up on this mysterious island. They find many strange things about this island, and even are kidnapped by the tribe. This tribe of people are the descendents of the above group that we will be playing this time. Part two is about the same idea, just a second group of survivors. If you would like to see a summary of the first Crash to understand more, it's in the OOC section of the original "Crash". Luckily, this roleplay doesn't have any ties that are that important to the other rps, so you don't need to know much about the past two.

Characters

There are a few slots that are required to fill, but other than that, do whatever you like. If you are planning on creating a non-witch character, please PM me about it before you make the character. I need to approve of it before so it's not completely going against the idea of this roleplay.

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455: 11:34 pm

Duke and eleven others had been in this dark and damp jail for nearly a month collectively. Some of them had been here longer than others, which included Duke, Abel, Ariane and Evelyn. That was why they were together in this cell. This was helpful because they could speak about what they should do to escape. It had taken twenty days to finally have contact with anyone out of the group that hadn't been convicted of witchcraft, and once they finally spoke with Daniel, a younger member of the group, they now had the plan set to escape from this place and leave the town.

Daniel had been asked to go talk to Duke's wife, Celeste, and tell her to break them out at night on this very day. When Celeste breaks them out, the group would travel quickly to the ports of Bordeaux and then set off for a better land. It would be a matter of minutes before Celeste would arrive if Daniel had listened to the group. He seemed loyal, and Duke didn't have many doubts that this wouldn't work out.

"It should be soon everyone," Duke said to the rest of the group anxiously awaiting to break free. He had grown very weak from this month of little food and poor treatment. The air was so musty that many of them still had colds from the air in here. He could tell that the rest of this group was feeling the same way, and was desperately hoping that this would work for the sake of the group.

Duke stood up slowly and walked over to the barred wall that looked out to the rest of the jail. The gaurd was ofcourse asleep, like usual. The night gaurd always fell asleep once it was ten at night. It was pretty sad, but Duke thought it to be a lot better. Once Celeste got down here it'd be so easy to take the keys that she wouldn't even need to shift. It was the gaurds in front of the building that would be hard to get past.

((I know it's short. I'll have longer posts when I have more to post about.))

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455: 11:37 pm

William had been executed. That was the only thing happening in Ariane's mind. The man she had given up everything for, a home, her brother, her mother's life... and now he is dead. Well, there was no way to know for sure, but just last night, a guard had grabbed him from his cell. Ariane heard the screams, distant screams, from somewhere. But he never returned to his cell. William. Dead. Ariane couldn't even make herself cry. But she knew she wouldn't die with him. These people in her cell, they had given her shelter at times, before she had been imprisoned here, they accepted her as part of the group, although she was native from Dijon. So she would stick with these people, Duke, Daniel and the others. But her heart would mourn.

You are still young. You may still find a suitor.

But those words were incredibly bitter. Ariane wanted to sleep now, but it hurt to move her body. After William had been taken, Ariane was also taken, for another round of torture, among other things. She remembered the hot steel rod they pressed into her back. And the whips. And the tweezers that pulled her nails. And the crusher that squeezed the toes after the nails had been pulled. Then, the men enjoyed her. She was catatonic when they brought her back, and threw her into the cell with the others. She could somewhat hear Duke telling them something, but it didn't occur in her mind.

I can't even blame the Anglo-Saxon people for ruining my life, either. William is one. And I love him.

How would they escape, anyway? And would they bring her? Ariane's arm is broken, her left one, after that terrible beating she had two weeks ago. Maybe they wouldn't bring her. Leave her here, to die. With an arm that doesn't function, and being younger than the rest of the 'witches', she figured she wouldn't be much help unless her arm miraculously healed. But more than that, she wished she had an opportunity to take William with her.

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455 11:40 pm

Abel sat next to his brother trying to decide whether he should tell him the truth or continue to keep it hidden. His minds eye traveled back to when he lay naked with the mayor's daughter. Under silk white sheets they rolled together giggling and laughing. Finger tips gliding along bare flesh, warm lips pressing against each other. His face of course was not his own, but that of her husband who was away on business in the city of Clermont-Ferrand. He merely acted the part, something he was able to do well. She pulled away from him, just enough to gaze into his eyes. She placed soft palm on the side of his face.

"I love you my dear, Alphonse." she said her voice just above a whisper. Abel only smiled for an instant before her loving expression crumbled into one of sheer terror and confusion. "Who are you?" she cried pushing him away from her as if she was being pursued by a monster. Abel knew she must have realized that he wasn't who he'd appeared to be. He was fine with that.

The young woman kicked away from him, falling off of the bed in a frenzy and rolling onto the floor. Abel was on top of her before she could climb to her feet. He pulled her up, locking her in his arms tightly. Tears streamed down her cheeks, as his teeth brushed against the tendons in her neck. "You think it's fine to pass judgement on others. To look down from your podium of superiority and pass judgement on others simply because youre beloved old crone is in a seat of power. You and your father will learn that there are more powerful forces that exist in this world.. more powerful than you could possibly imagine." He released her letting her fall to the floor. Then disappeared from her home.

It was one of a few instances in which he tormented the higher class and all those who mistreated members of his faction. In his consciensce he was justified for tormenting them. The way her family and the other nobles treated his people was disgusting, but here he was reaping the fruit from his own rotten garden. Death, pain and the sound of rattling chains filled the air. Perhaps in an instant she'd seen his true face and recognised him from town because a few days later they came for them. Abel was brought back to the present by the irritating banter of a couple arguing nearby.

He rolled his eyes.

"Duke, it's nearly time." Celested would be arriving shortly to free them. Jessica would be assisting her. Her brother had been taken away hours ago. The guards had gotten rid of his belongings. Abel knew he was dead. He mourned silently. He'd make sure to look after the young lady once he was freed.

Lefebvre Household: April 19, 1455 11:58 pm

Celeste sighed as she rose from the chair that she had placed before the hearth, the crisp smell of wood smoke and the sharp crackling of well seasoned wood filled the small front room of the Lefebvre household with the striking feeling of a home well lived in. She began to pace in the small circle of flickering light, agitation clear in her disposition. She knew the time was near, stooping before the fire she banked back the flames heavily as though she were just going to sleep.

Two short wraps at the front door signaled that it was time to move, the signal was meant to signify that all was clear and that there were no soldiers in the vicinity of the house, but Celeste had misgivings, although she could harbor little ill will and mistrust towards the boy, Daniel, she worried over the influence that older members of the God fearing community of Bordeaux would have on him.

Removing her unlit lantern from the kitchen counter she moved swiftly to the back door, glancing out into the darkness through the small window next to the door she swiftly shouldered the three small leather satchels that sat beneath the window and pushed the door open, the faint tapping of her shoes masked by the light swishing of her skirts as they trailed behind erasing any and all footprints she might leave behind the wind made rushing noises as it filtered through the leaves of the forest.

As she neared the town she moved out of the woods and onto the road, swiftly lighting her lantern as she did she pulled two small vials of dust from one of the bags and held them tightly in her hand, it all hinged on this, she had to be successful in breaking them out of the jail.

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455 12:10 am

As she neared the jail she felt her heart begin to race. Placing the bags in an ally just beyond the jail she moved in closer to the guards, the lamps that hung beside the doors burned dim, nearing the end of their wicks, she stumbled feigning dizziness.
"Miss! Are you all right?" called one of the more alert guards " I-I can't breathe.." she said in a high wispy voice managing to right herself and then swooning again, all the time moving closer to the entrance of the jail.
The guard rose from his seat, as he stepped forward to offer assistance she collapsed her hand still clasped tightly around the vials the lantern in her other going out in the wind.
"Oh lord! I think she's feinted!" said the guard, who could hardly have been more than 20 years old, in a high panicky voice. "And she's pregnant!" his voice rose another octave.
"C-captain, Captain! We should bring her in out of the cold." he said waking the other man from his sleep,
"wha-- Yes, Yes bring her in and sit her down at once!".
A thin smile flickered over Celeste's lips for a split second , her plan was working!
Once inside, she exaggerated slightly taking a shaky shallow breath her eyes flickering open for a split second.
"I think she's waking!" cried the young guard, she heard one of the other guards move in closer. At that instant, with a sharp cough she jerked her head back and away throwing the small vials at the stone floor. She heard them break, followed by a loud explosion and flash, the guards yelled but fell to the ground stunned and blinded by the brilliant flash. It had worked, she wasn't sure if it would but it worked!
Grabbing the keys from the hook in the office she ran towards the cells. Swiftly she unlocked the jail cell holding her loved ones. Throwing her arms around Duke she held him tight for a few moments, then stepping back she said,
"hurry we must flee quickly!"

Ports of Bordeaux: April 19, 1455: 11:45

Daniel quickly and stealthly ran down the long, cobblestone road. He was nearly alone of the streets, so it didn't really matter, but anyone could be watching him, and he didn't want to risk being caught. He could see the dark, calm ocean ahead of him blocked by the tall masts of the many ships docked for the night at the ports of Bordeaux. He had been asked to find a smaller ship that had a hold that could fit the whole group of about 20.

Some of these ships would have people sleeping in them, and Daniel had to be sure to not bother them. If that happened, this would just be ten times harder. When Daniel finally made it to the ports, he looked down the long line of ships. Although he desperately wanted to take one of the big ships just for the fun of it, he'd have to be more practical than that and just choose a smaller, quieter ship.

After looking them over, he spotted a smaller sloop that seemed to be big enough to hold all of them. Daniel ran over to it and looked it over. It was perfect. He then turned around and suddenly remembered Jessica was with him(right?). He needed the help to get all of the supplies on the ship that they'd need for the long journey.

"Jessica, start getting the food and supplies. Remember, it's hidden at the edge of the docks," he said. Then Daniel turned to the ship. "I'll check if anyone's on here." He ran up the ramp and on to the main deck. Nobody there. Nobody in the lookout. He turned to the door to the hold down under and pulled out his knife just in case. Daniel slowly opened the door and walked in.

"Where is my brother?" Jessica questioned. "I don't see him!" Her strong elegant fingers reached out grab Duke's arm, but her hand was snatched away by the other Lefebvre brother.

"Jessica, there isn't much time." Abel nodded to let his brother know that he had things under control. He didn't relinquish her wrist, but dragged her along with him down the docks.

"Where is my brother, Abel, where?!" she demanded, snatching her wrist away from him. "Don't tell me you abandoned him in that place!"

He made eye contact with her briefly before kneeling down by the edge of the dock retrieving the supplies. He passed some of it along to her. She took it in her arms without protest, but continued to glare at him with eyes that demanded an answer.

'Abel Lefebvre!" she said louder.

He shushed her. "Are you mad, woman? Would you have us spotted and executed on the spot?!"

"Answer me."

He grabbed the last of the supplies under his arm and climbed back up. With regretful eyes he placed a palm on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, but he's dead."

Her eyes acted as a window. First their windows displayed surprise, then sorrow and finally fury. Burning tears streamed down her cheeks as the supplies she held dropped down on to the wooden boards. Her hands balled into fist that began pounding on the youngest Lefebvre's brother's chest. "Don't lie to me! Don't lie to me!" Her wailings turned to sobs. Abel grabbed her by the arm curtly.

"Calm yourself. We'll mourn him properly. Just not here." He retrieved the fallen supplies from the ground quickly tucking it under his arms and pulling her along with him. "Now, we must escape or his death will mean nothing." She protested the entire time he dragged her to the ship where he'd departed from Duke. bBy the time they reached the ship, she'd become quieter. Her skin was as pale as corpse's.

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455: 11:40 PM

As Evelyn waited for the plan her new friends had hypothesized to begin, she paced around the cell.

"What had he meant of 'a better land'?" she asked herself. The whole plan she felt hesitant about. It seemed so radical and the chances of success were slim. However she understood, anything would be better then staying in Bordeaux. The whole escape plan that was concocted seemed to revolve around Celeste, which was another inmate's wife, Duke, escaping and infiltrating the jail and breaking them out. He must of had a lot of hope in her if he thought she could do such a thing. Evelyn began to feel dizzy and sat down against the damp walls. It was the dark of night; drips of cold water slithered down the side of the wall under the window. She began to drift off, but not completely...

"What? Is this true, uncle?" Evelyn subtly cried in sight of the homicidal man.

"He asked for it. Your father would of wanted the same thing." her uncle said frailly, with eyes darting across the room. He quickly walked across the room away from Evelyn and took a seat in the rocking chair. Evelyn stood there with her arms crossed, listening to the creaking against the stale wood in sight of the dead body of her neighbor in the middle of the room.

"Who the hell are you?" Evelyn turned away. The man was insane. It was more then a disorder. He was filled with pure insanity and disregard for life itself. She shut her eyes and her heart fell sick.

"Listen, girl!" The silent uncle jumped up from the chair.

"He threatened me! He threatened our family! He has reasons to die!" He stuttered in hopes of justifying the murder of William Giselle.

"He did nothing to you," Eveleyn whispered. Her uncle stood and stared at her with a mad glare, and after a hesitation, walked quickly out of the room. Evelyn sat down in the rocking chair and began to cry. She looked at the dead body.

Who can I trust anymore?

She quickly regained consciousness and realized she was sweating; in the damp and cold tavernly dungeons of Bordeaux. She had come here for good reason; but not for the right ones.

Bordeaux Town Jail: April 19, 1455: 11:47 PM

The entire escape, Ariane couldn't remember a single thing. Ariane lived in a sick, putrid haze of pain. Cuts. Cuts all over her body. The torturer sure had his fun with her. He had ben gleeful in his cuts and slashes he dealt to her body, just as gleeful as if he were a little boy with a birthday cake. As if that were everything he ever wanted. Nearly everyone in the cells was afraid of him. Too terrified to even learn his name. His squeal of delight as he slowly, forcefully pulled her arm back until the eventual snap. His demented laughter as he caught her toenails one by one in the tweezers, and pulled them out slowly, tanalizingly. Ariane figured he was a true psychopath, with no remorse for his actions. But that was irrelevant now, as Ariane was mostly shuffled along by nameless people itching for freedom.

The witches. The march of the witches.

Ariane smirked a little, a small grim, sad, and bitter smirk. They would be off to some random island, pretty soon. Away form everyone and everything. She had wanted to patch things up with her last family member, Pierre, but that was hopeless. He had either moved on or died, and he never came to visit her, not even once. Because his hatred for the Anglo people would probably never die out. And that meant William. Ariane wished that Pierre could have been okay after the war, wished that he could have been the happy boy she grew up with, but Pierre had seen his twin identical brother blown to smithereens in his fac, in literally the final battle of the Hundred Years War that lasted even longer than a century.

Jessica had starting wailing and shrieking into Abel Lefebvre’s face. Her brother, dead. Ariane remembered it, somewhat. They had both been sent to the torture chambers, Ariane and the brother of Jessica. However, only one of the made it out that day. The guards had wanted to play around, and take two prisoners and torture them both until one died. A cruel, sadistic game, but she supposed that in Bordeaux, she could be nothing but a pawn. And that's how the world works.

But the plan orchestrated by Celeste had worked. She hoped so, at least. Better to die trying to make it, then die in the torture chamber, although a part of her will always still be in there, hearing the screams, her screams, his screams, but then his screams would die out. But in truth? As shaken up as she was, she was glad that he had died, and not her. Glad that she made it through. But she'd never say this out loud. She looked to Duke, and decided to confess. Warn him that in her condition, she wouldn't be apt to do anything to help. She grabbed his arm gingerly.

"I am injured, Mr. Lefebvre." She told him respectfully. "It hurts a lot. I'm sorry that I cannot be of much help."

As Daniel walked in the hold, he looked around quickly yet quietly. However, he couldn't see anything. He tried to adjust his eyes and finally could make out four hammocks hanging on each side of the hold. Luckily, he couldn't see anyone. After taking a second look over the room as well as he could, Daniel left the room, relieved that nobody was there. Suddenly, when Daniel walked out the door, he bumped into a man directly in front of the door. Out of instinct Daniel stepped back and held out his knife, until he realized it was Duke Lefebvre, now glaring down at him with a disappointed and somewhat suprised facial expression.

"What in god's name are you doing!? Put that away," ordered Duke, backing up.

Daniel looked down at his feet, and put the knife back on his belt loop. "Sorry Duke, I didn't know it was you."

"Nevermind," said Duke pushing the whole situation to the side. "We need a lookout and we need to head out soon. You head up there and call out if you see anyone coming near us while we load up the ship. I'm guessing there was nobody down there?" Daniel nodded and then ran over to the mid-sail and climbed all the way up to the nest, happy he had the fun job of sitting up in the lookout's spot.

Duke turned around and headed down to the crates that held their food and supplies. Many of the group were already pulling large crates up to the ship, except for Ariane who was looking down on herself and holding her arm. Duke moved over to her and she confessed, ""I am injured, Mr. Lefebvre." She told him respectfully. "It hurts a lot. I'm sorry that I cannot be of much help." Duke looked at her arm and shook his head.

"That's alright dear," he said smiling. "Just get up to the ship and wait for us to depart." Duke gave a quick smile and then moved on to help bring up the rest of the supplies. He was hoping they would leave soon. They didn't have much time until someone saw them doing this and would for sure tell someone.

Mr. Gustav Fortesque and his wife Josephine moved along with the escaping witches. Mr. Fortesque dragged his wife along with him who had begun on a long tirade of pointless ranting and nagging since they fled the prison and were now boarding the ship blended in the crowd of the others hidden in the cover of the night.

"Let go of me!" Mrs. Fortesque finally snapped, releasing herself from her husbands grip, locking her feet in place and crossing her arms to show him she wasn't moving any further. "Where in God's name are you taking me? We've escaped the prison already. I don't want anything else to do with these people anymore. Gustav, they're witches!"

Mr. Fortesque's eyes lit with fire as he stepped threateningly towards her. "Hush your mouth, woman." His eyes darted around suspiciously, to see if they're dispute had caught the attention of any onlookers. "Do you want us caught?!" he spat in a harsh whisper.

"But I don't want to go with them!"

"Then don't. Stay here and end back up in the jail...alone. Because I'm not staying. I'm fleeing this place and I don't have to take you with me." he turned to leave her.

Panic started to settle in. "You can't be serious!"

He twisted around. "I said hush your damned mouth, Josephine! We're wanted in the entire southwestern region of France. Our trial was so famous that our faces have been plastered on every wall from here to Paris. We'd have to scrounge for food and hide out during the day. At least this way both supplies, food and have already been provided." He gave up trying to reason. "I'm wasting my words on you." He boarded the ship without his wife.

"Gustav! You can't leave me here! Gustav!" she looked over her shoulder into the darkness that consumed the port and ship like a curtain of darkness. "Damn it to hell." she followed her husband onto the ship.

"Pierre, it is not what you think..."

Her brother was fuming. He looked completely out of control when she got back. He had seen her go into the prison of Bordeaux, and he had been watching when she left. He offered to drie her home, and Ariane didn't think to object. Now she wishes that she had. He had found out about William.

"You are a besmirched… You are the devil!" Pierre sputtered, looking at his younger sister with nothing less than hatred. Ariane sighed, heartbroken, having to choose between two people that she loved.

"What is so wrong?" She pressed. "Please. Why-"

"He is a filthy English-man." Pierre spat, uttering the last part, as if it were the gravest insult in the world. "An English-man took away my brother and father, Ariane. My fiancé was raped. When she found out she was pregnant with an English child, she killed herself. And my sister, you're still young... and you're marrying such garbage!"

"I'm not so young." Ariane shot back, anger rising in her cheeks. "Girls like me marry young before we lose our fertility."

But Pierre didn't look at her anymore, but his shoulders were shaking, like a broken bow across his back, as if he had just made a choice that he wishes he didn't have to make. Ariane wanted to ask him if he wanted to talk, but she made herself stay put, and keep her mouth shut. Pierre was choosing between honor and family.

Ariane knew he would choose honor.

Nodding thanks to Mr. Lefebvre, Ariane entered the rickety boat, holding her broken arm gingerly. She hoped they would make it. She curled into a little ball in a corner, pulled her hood up to hide her eyes, and slept.

Evelyn sat in the corner of the cell, prepared to escape the horrible cell with her inmates. She dozed off and it seemed the rest of the group was getting impatient. But then a figure appeared along the walls. She was tired - very tired. Exhausted, even. She had not slept in hours, if days. However out of the blurred vision she could a figure who from the context of her opening the cell door; was Celeste Lefebvre. Everyone got up, some slower then others and followed her outside. Evelyn simply stood up, as if sleepwalking and followed the group like a sheep. Her vision was blurred and her head was dizzy. She fell over onto another person, who seemed to recognize the problem she was having. She couldn't really tell who it was - but they held her arm and made sure she came with them.

Evelyn had no idea if no one was talking or if her hearing was also jacked up, as well. They trekked up a flight of stairs and made it to the ground level where they continued in winding hallways until they found the door. They exited and she breathed in the chilly French air of the night. A foggy moon glossed the sky with bright white light. The night time torches of the corrupt city de Bordeaux lit the ground. She held onto the man's arm who held her hand tight. The group seemed to be moving fast. Then things began to become a bit more recognizable. They approached another man who had most likely gotten the ship ready. They had made it to the docks of Bordeaux.

They traveled alongside the creaky wooden marina, in search of their boat. They went to the very end where a boat that seemed fairly small for their group size was waiting for them. After a bit of faded discussion, they proceeded onto the vessel, one by one. Celeste was near the back of the group. She held close to her dark robe to keep herself warm. She nearly tripped and fell in the water. And finally the last of the few came onto the boat. Celeste placed herself on the boat in a comfortable location in the back. She saw a pile of blankets in the corner. She grabbed one and laid down to rest. She needed it badly.

Ports of Bordeaux: April 19, 1455: 12:10 am
The flight to the docks had been a silent blur, they had stepped carefully and easily over the crumpled forms of the guards in the antechamber.Duke shot Celeste an inquisitive look as they passed the four unconscious men, shaking her head slightly she motioned towards door knowing they had little time left. As they stepped up to street level she noticed each of the individuals in her party take a deep thankful breath of the crisp April air, Celeste smiled warmly glad that she could make a difference. They continued down the street leaving their lanterns unlit. Retrieving the three satchels from the alley where she hid them Celeste handed one to Duke and Abel respectively. As they continued towards the ports at just shy of a run members of the group peeled off to collect the cleverly hidden supplies that they had staged along their escape route, rejoining the back of the small unit.

Daniel and Jessica had found a schooner that would hold their whole group and they were rapidly filling it with the supplies they would need. Hearing the conversation that passed between Duke and one of the other members of the group Celeste knew that this would be her time to take action. The young girl, Ariane, was looking very pale and was beginning to shake with fatigue, she was favoring her arm and Celeste suspected that it was broken. Silently making eye contact with Duke she slipped a motherly had around Araine's shoulder "Let's go to the boat" she whispered, raising her voice only loud enough to be herd over the gentle lapping of the ocean against the docks. Gently turning the girl, they walked over to the boat and up the gangplank.
The deck was cluttered with loose line and crates of produce and supplies filched from other ships holds and quietly purchased over a long period of time.
"Why don't you head down to the cabin's and choose which hammock you would like, also, if you can manage, it would be best if you changed out of that dress and into men's trousers, what with the taboo's of women on boats. I will be down in a few minutes to join you and to do the same." She gave the hollow looking girl a warm smile hoping she could see that Celeste really did care about her welfare and happiness. Turning swiftly to the crates as the girl retreated in to the hold she began to efficiently stack and store the heavy crates and boxes and assorted mismatched paraphernalia.

Daniel crouched up on the ledge of the crow's nest, making sure to keep a good eye on the city. He didn't want to disappoint his group anymore. He was somewhat the screw up of the group. The shady one that nobody ever seemed to be able to trust. He pretended like he didn't care, but deep down he did. He's never been completely trusted by anyone, no matter how hard he tried. This group were the closest people to him and he wanted them to accept him. He took out the spyglass from his pocket and quickly looked over the town. It seemed dead, but with the noise some of them were making, there was no telling how long this would take. Hopefully they could get done soon and head off before daylight.

Duke helped slide up one of the larger crates full of fruit and vegetables. Once they were completely done, Duke, with the help of Abel, rallied the group together. "Alright, since some of us haven't seen each other in a long time, we must go over our plans," stated Duke. "We are leaving France, and will never return again. If you are uncomfortable with leaving, go home now. Otherwise, we will depart shortly." He looked over at the helm of the ship, remembering they needed a person to steer.

"We need a person to steer the ship. All you need to know is that we're headed west. Any takers?" Duke waited for a response, hoping for a quick answer so they could leave quickly. Daniel hadn't said anything though, so he guessed there was nobody coming near them. Just to be sure, though, he moved over and took the plank off with the help of another man. "Also there are only about eight hammocks and twenty three of us. That means, children sleep together or with parents, and there will be quilts set on the ground when the hammocks are filled."

Ports of Bordeaux: April 19, 1455: 12:21 am

The pregnant woman was being kind to the useless girl with the broken arm. Had spoken to her kindly, consolingly, soothingly. Like her mother did, before news of dear brother Louis's death. Before Pierre's descent into hatred and bitterness. Life was terrible. But her only family left, wasn't family at all. Unreachable. And she hadn't seen him in years, anyways. She couldn't wait for the sunny days, in whatever land they end up in. The weeks, possibly months on this boat would be terrible. And she hadn't even entertained the idea of changing out of her dress into trousers and boots.

It will hurt a lot. I may need help. But please, not in front of a man.

She could vaguely remember things the torturer had done to her, while he had her at his utter mercy and every whim. Terrible things... traumatic... but Ariane would never tell anyone. Not that it mattered, of course.

Duke and Abel. The Brothers. And pregnant wife Celeste. They were the ringleaders. They were the ones who mattered. Ariane wondered dimly if they would leave her and the others behind if they had to.

Can I trust them?

But anything was better than going back to the Bordeaux Prison. Even possible death at see. So she nodded when the question was put out, if they wanted to come. Ariane said yes. She had nothing to lose but her life, and that was not worth much, anyways. She bitterly smiled at Duke, not wanting to offend him, but she was doubting that this would really amount to much. Most likely death by sea. She almost pointed that out to them, but her arm send another throb of pain. Ariane turned to Celeste tiredly, not noticing how pale and thin she was.

"Would you mind helping me change?" She asked quietly, but with a hard edge. "It hurts, and I cannot take off my corset."

"I'll man this ship, brother." Abel piped up. He was always doing what he could for his people because he cared for them just as much as his brother did, but in trying to take retribution for them his actions resulted in their outcast. If his actions had brought them this far from their lives, then it would only be right that he would lead them to a new one. "I still have some experience from when I was working as a fisherman a couple of years ago. It shouldn't be too difficult." he nodded at his brother and start barking orders in a harsh whisper. "Evelyn, you're closest. Untie us from port. Anyone who is able, assist her." He rounded the deck. "You two help me raise the mast. Someone bring me a compass. We've spent far too much time here as it is. We need to at least get a drift in the harbor before we're spotted."

With her cheeks coated in dry tears, Jessica jogged over to help Evelyn with untying the ropes that kept the ship at dock. They were thick and there were four different ones along the railing, the girl wouldn't be able to get them all alone. She caught view of an elderly couple she'd never seen before, standing around arguing with one another. "Excuse me, but if the two of you are finished alerting our pursuers to our location with your loud bickering then i suggest you assist us." She said coldly.

Mrs. Fortesque huffed and puffed preparing to blow the girl to pieces with insults, but she was stopped by her husband. "Just do it, Josephine." With much disdain Mrs. Fortesque thew her nose in the air and began untying the ropes.

As the ship began to move away from the ports, Duke thought of what he was leaving. Even though he didn't care for many of the vile people that lived here, he still had grown up here all his life with his younger brother. They would run around town getting into trouble and roaming through the woods. His parents were both dead, and so were many of his cousins. There wasn't much family he was leaving, since Abel, and his wife were on the ship with him. They were headed off to a better land, where they could live freely and not be afraid to shift. Hopefully it would all work for the best.

He turned around and headed to the inside of the ship to make sure everyone was doing okay with the sleeping arrangements. He didn't even realize that he had just passed the Fortesque couple, who were most definitely not of their group. It was so dark, he could barely make out the faces of anyone in the pitch black of night. Duke opened the door and looked through the long cabin of many hammocks, and now many people. They were all getting situated either on the hammocks or on the floor. Everything seemed to be good.

Duke had already decided that he wouldn't be sleeping tonight. He'd stay up with Abel as he steered the ship. It would only be a few hours till sunrise anyways and he didn't feel too tired. Duke looked back to the town but he could now see almost none of it. Just a small amount of faint lights from a few building near the ports. They were really gone, and there was no going back. Good riddance.

((Sorry if it's full of crap. I didn't have much to write about.))

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Omg! I'm sooo sorry I've been MIA for so long, life has just been super hectic for me lately and I hope you will have me, as I come back to roleplaying with my tail between my legs( figuratively of course) and my head hung in shame, because I would love to dive back into the stories that I left behind.
Thanks and apologies,
Mistsong
P.S. is anyone else doing Nanowrimo?

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Well, we'll build our tribe while we discover things about the island, like the weird things that happen on it. Idk we can make up stuff.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

A couple of days sounds fine. Hey so what did you hae in mind for whats supposed to happen on the island?

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

maybe a few days on the boat. So we can make character dialogue and get to know eachother!!! ,333

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

How quickly does everyone want to crash on the island? We could spend some time on the ship or we could just skip to the night where we crash. Up to you guys

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

I was going to wait for everyone to post before I posted again, but I guess I can post tonight or tomorrow.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

I was going to post, but then I realized, I still needed Celeste to reply to mine. *shrug* So I can't really post.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

People haven't posted in a while. What's up?

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

I don't think it should be too long. I was planning on the main story to be on the island, where we start up our new lives.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Question, how long do you plan for the boat to stay on the open seas?

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

How about somewhere more in the direction to where we could get sent off course. The island is supposed to be father out in sea, so maybe England or Ireland? Was there an Ireland in the 1400's? Idk, but somewhere farther away.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Hmm. How about somewhere in the Holy Roman Empire? Like, Magdeburg, except we're going by sea, going north of France, and East to near the Southern reaches of then Denmark, and get to Magdeburg. Because it's not safe to try and get through French lands to get to safety. I'll mention it in my post, if you agree, Jay.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Just to be clear, we aren't headed for the island, we accidentally crash onto it during a storm. We were actually just headed for any land away from France. Also, make sure to use the locations when you post.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

I'm about to post. I sometimes forget to check an Rp if the OOC isn't active.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

I'll post tonight! sorry, the time jump had me a bit confused but I think I have it now :)

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Extreme writer's block on this. I don't know why. I can write in others but I'm in a weird menta funk when I try. I have tried, trust me. :S Ahh. Sorry. I could throw up a random post but it'll be terrible.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Sorry guys but I don't have time to post bc I have work till ten. I'll try and post afterwards if I can.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

Pardon for not posting yet! I wasn't available the whole weekend and I'll get to it tomorrow.

Re: [OOC] Crash: The Beginning

That was good. i was curious about how you were going to go about it. lol And I think you mean Jessica. Yeah, I'll just have her getting the boat ready at the docks.
