Aada is a charming young woman, well liked by the people of Cinnabar, as is her brother. She is courteous and patient, kind and considerate. Like her brother, she has a great love of books and is often found studying whenever she has free time. Unlike her brother however, Aada is very much interested in the practical part of her education. Theory only goes so far. From a young age, Aada learned the games played at court, knowing who to flatter, who to trust and who to give a wide berth to if at all possible. Given her habitual presence at court, among the biggest players in the country, the young princess has learned how to play people to get what she wants. A gifted mage, more so than her brother although she would never admit it at court, Aada is somewhat envious of her brother. While she thinks that she is more suited to the throne, it smarts that her brother inherited simply because he was older.

History: Born as the second child, Aada was never destined for greatness. Not while Arim was alive anyhow. While her brother was groomed to be king, she was groomed to be a wife, an ornament on the arm of a powerful man. She was content with her freedoms until she realised the reason behind them. No one truly cared what the young princess did, so long as she didn't get hurt. The nannies often gave her her own way, so when she insisted on taking lessons with her brother, they acquiesced. It was then that the problems began between the siblings.

It became apparent to the tutors quite early on that Aada was a naturally gifted mage and had a keener mind than her brother. When Aada began to pick up on this, she envied her brother's treatment. He was the golden boy, the tutors were more lenient on him, demanding less. Their efforts did not matter, he would be king no matter what. But Aada had to fight to prove herself. She began studying away from her brother, her magic growing as she practiced. She found her abilities lay most with pyromancy, something she was reluctant to learn within the confines of the palace library.

When her father grew ill, Aada was largely apathetic. Unlike Arim, she had never spent much time with the man. She knew him as a King, not as a father. The few times she had spent time with her father, well, they weren't particularly pleasant. Where once she might have begged him to be a 'normal' father, she now no longer cared. His illness was hardly heartbreaking news for her. When he died, she went through the motions of public grieving; dressing in black, acting distraught, the usual. When her brother was crowned king, she was present. She couldn't not be, even though she was better suited to rule. Since then, Aada has supported her brother's rule, even if she does disapprove of some of his antics, particularly with the council.

Arim looked out of the window of the carriage, watching the Cinnabar countryside roll by. Families worked the fields and tended to cattle. As they moved further away from the cities, the scenery became more green, more wild. His homeland was beautiful. He had never understood his uncle's disdain for the land. While Arim would happily spend his days in Cinnabar and never leave, his uncle had left at the first chance with little explanation. Arim's father had never forgiven his brother.

Aada sat opposite him, wrapped in a heavy cloak, her nose stuck in a book, once again doing a wonderful job of ignoring his existence. It had been this way for years. As much as Arim wished they were closer, he did not know how to bridge the gap between himself and his sister simply because he didn't know what had caused it in the first place. Truly, he would move the heaven's for his sister if she asked, but she never asked anything of him. She remained a quiet, if staunch, supporter of his rule. More than once he had seen her engaged in heated conversation with a councillor who had tried to cross him. She did care. She just had an odd way of showing it.

"Be careful." Aada's voice pierced the quiet.

Arim started at the sound of his sister's voice. He raised an eyebrow, "We're miles from Khalidor, why would I need to be careful?"

Aada turned the page of her book, still not looking at her brother. "You were thinking. It's a very dangerous pastime to engage in."

Arim turned his body away from the window. "Are you implying I'm a fool dear sister?"

Aada lifted her eyes from the book before her. Mischief sparkled in her eyes and for a moment, Arim could almost believe the last five years hadn't happened. "Your Majesty must be mistaken. I would never dare imply such a thing about the High King of Cinnabar."

Arim smiled. "Thank you."

"I was stating a fact."

Aada returned to reading her book. Arim chuckled, returning his gaze to the scenery beyond the carriage. He could hear the horses moving along with the carriage. A token force had been sent along with the High King and Crown Princess. There were enough men to see off an ambush of bandits. Losing the High King would be awful. To lose the High King and the heir assumed? That would be catastrophic. A decoy carriage had been sent ahead on another path and two more had been sent elsewhere, each wih roughly the same amount of men. To Arim it seemed a little much, although Aada had soon talked him around. He still worried though. What if something happened to them?

A guard came by the carraige door, "We will be arriving in Khalidor soon Your Majesty."

Arim sat up a little straighter, "Thank you."

Aada closed her book and moved to sit by her brother. He looked at her, confused by her moving. "I've never seen Khalidor before. I don't want to be the last one. I can see Cinnabar anytime I choose," she answered, leaning towards the window. Aada smoothed out the skirt of her dress as the border between Cinnabar and Khalidor came closer.

"It will be a while before we approach Jodan, Aada."

Aada pursed her lips and nodded. "I know Arim." Aada leaned out of the window, "Captain? How long before we arrive in Jodan?"

"A few hours yet, Your Highness."

"Thank you Captain." Aada sat back. If Arim didn't know better, he would say his younger sister was sulking.

"How did you find your first glimpse of Khalidor?"

"Ask me again when we arrive in Jodan," she answered. "You are aware of all the dignitaries coming?"

Arim nodded, remembering the weeks Aada had been drilling names into his head, of who was related to who, of which nations would be valuable allies (most) and which would be dangerous enemies (again, most). "If I forget, I have no doubt that you will remind me."

Aada sighed. How was it her brother was her elder? "This is serious Arim. This is the first time you have been a representative of Cinnabar outside of its borders. This is the first chance the world will have to see the new High King and to measure him against their own. You can't be lackadaisical about this. This is our first chance to make an impression on a grander stage, we cannot afford to show any signs of weakness."

"Forgetting a name is hardly a sign of weakness Arabelle."

Aada dropped her head into her hands. "You might not think it is, but it would be highly offensive. There are going to be Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses here. We can't offend them. We must know what we're doing, or at least pretend we know, and play it neutrally. We can court allies but we can not set anything in stone, not yet."

"Aada." Arim's voice was calm. "I have been pretending to know what I'm doing since the day I was crowned. You need not worry about me so much, worry about the other men there."

"Believe me, I will be concerned about all the men there."

Zexen accompanied his father, Valen, on their journey to the Republic of Khaidor. They began their journey from the northern border of Valen Alus bordering Cinnabar and crossed a small portion of the Jade Ocean to the connecting peninsula connecting Cinnabar and The Republic of Khalidor. He was excited to visit Khalidor again. It had been a very long time since heā€™d been last. It was Khalidorā€™s wine that he loved most. He remembered meeting Arkaelus, the current King, upon his first visit. Arkaelus was younger at the time and Zexen still looked about the same, thinking about that fact made Zexen realize that this reunion may be a little awkward.

Valen noticed Zexenā€™s troubled expression, wondering why his son seemed bothered he inquired. ā€œZexen, what troubles you my son?ā€ Valen asked from across the carriage they sat in. ā€œYouā€™ve been quietly festering for the past hour.ā€

Zexen seemed shocked out of his train of thought. ā€œOh, umā€¦ sorry father. I was just thinking about the last time I met the king of Khalidor, Arkaelus. I think he was about 16 or 17 at the time. I looked exactly the same then as I do now. I know people in Valen Alus grow older around us all the time but they are used to that reality. It just seems like itā€™ll be different for foreigners. I guess Iā€™m just worried Iā€™d look like some odd man child.ā€ Zexen looked down to the floor his head heavy with worry.

Valen smiled sympathetically. He didnā€™t often see Zexen openly vulnerable anymore. Since his sonā€™s return from Athedale, Zexen usually presented himself as being heavily fortified, however in this moment his sons former timid and meek disposition was clearly visible. Valen was somewhat relieved. Valen leaned forward and reached out to his son, placing his hand under Zexenā€™s chin. He lifted his sons head up and looked him in the eyes. ā€œMy child, you have and will always be the envy of all others. Your longevity is something to be proud of. You, my boy, are the product of strength.ā€ Valen smiled proudly. Sitting back in his seat and folded his arms.

Zexen smiled feeling a little relieved. However his fatherā€™s comment on him being the product of strength only made him think of the secret Zexen knew his father closely guarded regarding his origins. ā€œSo are you willing to divulge any more information regarding my mother now?ā€ Zexen countered. He was never ready to put down the metaphorical blade when it came to the battle for information on his mother.

Valenā€™s smile swiftly dropped and cheerful eyes began to glare at Zexen. ā€œZexen donā€™t you start this right now.ā€ Valen replied in a tired exhale of a tone.

Zexenā€™s gaze became quite sharp. ā€œNo you were the one to start it. You started it years ago when you, for SOME reason, decided to lock away a piece of my origin that would mean the world to any child and swallow the key. I just want to be done with this constant wonderingā€¦ā€ Zexen forcefully plopped back into the cushion of his seat and placed his hand on his forehead in frustration.

Valen sat forward in his seat once more and grabbed Zexenā€™s hands, gripping them pleadingly. ā€œMy boy havenā€™t I made you happy, given you the world as best a parent could?ā€

Zexen sighed heavily and looked his father in the eyes. ā€œYes father youā€™ve made me happy. Youā€™ve given me everything I could ask forā€¦., except for my mother.ā€ Zexenā€™s eyes refused to break from his fatherā€™s.

Valen looked on in disbelief of how unrelenting Zexen was being. Zexen never pushed the subject this hard before. Valen shook his head and looked to the floor, something he often did when he was telling half-truths. ā€œI told you, youā€™re mother doesnā€™t exist.ā€

Zexen released his fatherā€™s grasp and folded his arms. ā€œOkay, you cling to your beloved secret. Iā€™ll find out the truth on my own. And when I do, youā€™re going to wish you had told me first.ā€

Valenā€™s eyes widened in shock at the threat spoken by his son. ā€œZEXEN!!ā€

Valenā€™s reply was cut short by the driver of the carriage. ā€œMy lords pardon my interruption. However we are at the nearing the kingdom line and our scouts report of another procession less than a half a mile ahead of us. The carriage seems to be of Cinnabarā€™s craftsmanship. They believe that it is carrying Noblemen. However our seers see that there are others of identical making on other routes bound for Khalidor.ā€

Valen flashed an upset look at his son before responding to the driver. ā€œThe others are decoys no doubt. I can sense a strong resolve in the air. The people protecting that carriage have hearts ready to die for a king not a double. Also Iā€™m sure they know we are here as well. Cinnabarā€™s scouts are thorough. Send greetings ahead to them and make haste to catch up to them. I am eager to chat with the neighboring King. Conversation with my son has grown quite unpleasant at the moment.

Zexen looked extremely irritated by Valenā€™s snipe at him.

Having reached the Cinnabar kings carriage with the okay from Cinnabar King Arimā€™s guardians. Valen and Zexenā€™s carriage rode alongside Arim and Aadaā€™s. Valen waved in a friendly manner to Arim. The two nations, Valen Alus and Cinnabar, have for a long time maintained a peaceful coexistence. They have had only the most minor of disputes in the past and were usually cleared up with diplomatic efforts.

ā€œAh greetings my good neighbor! It would seem the Khalidorā€™s neighboring territories are both in very little rush toward the summit. Foreigners to our region of the world seemed to have jumped at the chance to visitā€ Valen said with a chuckle. Valen had known Arimā€™s late father and respected him. He on occasion saw young Arim. Valen and Zexen were present at the funeral of the late King as well as Arimā€™s coronation ceremony.

Zexen looked out of the other Carriage window and spoke as well, ā€œHow are you King Arim and Princess Aada? It has been quite a while since we last met.ā€ Zexen was beginning to feel better now interacting with the Cinnabar Royals as opposed to interrogating and threatening his father. Thinking back on his actions he had begun to feel badly for speaking to his father the way he did. However it was way too late to turn back now. Valen never took lightly being threatened and Zexen knew this all too well.

The carriages were soon parading into Khalidor. Representatives from the large city began to approach. Several people rushed back and forth in an effort to coordinate a proper greeting for the Royalty of Cinnabar and Lords of Valen Alus. Zexen found it annoying that the King of Khalidor was not present personally to greet them however he quickly got over it as he knew omnipresence is an ability most rare. With that thought he smirked. Valen caught a glimpse of Zexenā€™s smirk and flashed a restrained smile of his own. Zexen tried to look away, attempting to keep up his brooding disposition longer.

Aada could feel her eyes growing heavy. The heavy velvet of her cloak was keeping her comfortably warm, making her wish for the warmth of her bed. Travelling always made her sleepy and bed would mean she could take this corset off. What she wouldn't give for that glorious moment to hurry up and arrive. Arim noticed his sister beginning to drop off when a guard galloped up by the window.


"Your Majesty, Lord Valen sends his greetings and wishes to journey to Jadon alongside our entourage."


"Lord Valen?" Arim asked. He looked to Aada who merely nodded. The kingdom of Valen Alus had long been allies of Cinnabar. Even in their great-grandfather's day, relations between Valen Alus and Cinnabar had been strong. If the agreements between the nations could withstand the siblings' father, they would no doubt remain strong for some time to come. Only an incompetent could ruin it. Valen's respect for the young king was clear since he had attended Arim's coronation.


"He's still king?" Arim asked Aada.


"Well, he is fae. They age slower and live longer than us mere mortals brother."


"His son must grow tired of waiting."


Aada stiffened. Not everyone would tire of having their father around. Arim didn't mean it that way though, of course he didn't. Aada wondered sometimes if her brother was capable of being cruel. She knew everyone was capable of good and bad, often to extremes, but Arim? She wasn't sure that he had that darkness in him. "Not everyone had a father like we did," she said eventually.


Arim closed his eyes. "He wasn't as awful as you make him to be."


"He's not the hero you make him out to be." Her voice lacked the bite it usually had when their father was the topic of conversation.


Arim sighed. Their father was clearly going to remain a touchy subject. He knew his sister well enough not to push it. This couldn't all come from him being the first-born though, he knew that. Before he could answer, Lord Valen's carriage rolled into view. Aada removed her cloak. It wouldn't do to look weary in front of Valen. The cool air hit her bare shoulders, making her a little more alert.


ā€œAh greetings my good neighbour! It would seem the Khalidorā€™s neighboring territories are both in very little rush toward the summit. Foreigners to our region of the world seemed to have jumped at the chance to visit."


Arim smiled. Valen's visits had been few and far between when Arim was growing up, but he had been privvy to meetings between his father and Valen. It was good to see him again. "I fear we have been ruined by familiarity Lord Valen. Perhaps haste would be our companion if the summit were happenng in the south. Although Aada seems to be eager to arrive."


"And finally see something beyond Cinnabar? Can't possibly imagine why I would be eager." Aada answered dryly.


Zexen leaned past his father. ā€œHow are you King Arim and Princess Aada? It has been quite a while since we last met.ā€Ā 


Aada took a moment to observe the prince of Valen Alus. He was handsome, as were most fae. He looked young, perhaps close in age to Arim and Aada, although she knew this was no true indication of his age. His face was familiar though, no doubt more so to Arim. If Valen had been at the coronation, it stood to reason that Zexen had been there too. "We're fairing well, my lords." Aada answered, her smile feeling more natural now that they had company.


The journey passed by amicably as the neighbours spoke with one another. Although Aada had not planned on allowing her brother to form any new alliances at the summit, there was little harm in him cementing the long standing one they had with Valen Alus.Ā 


As they rolled into Jadon, Aada's attention was focused on the new city. The people going about the normal everyday were fascinating. The buildings that they paid no attention to were as glorious as they were alien. Arim beamed as he watched his sister turn into a wonderous child once again, much like the sister he remembered in the lessons they had once shared. Her head turned and craned, trying to commit as much of the city to her memory as possible.


The carriages came to the palace and various dignitaries rushed, preparing a suitable welcome for the young royals and the fae. Aada wrapped her cloak around her shoulders again. Noticing the absence of Khalidor's king, Aada looked to Arim, who looked just as perplexed as Aada felt by the king's absence. Valen and Zexen's faces were unreadable, although Arim had the feeling that they knew more than they were letting on.

As Zexen and Valen exited their carriage Zexen took in the scenery. The city of Jordan was very large. Zexen admired the architecture of the structures. It had been many years since he had last visited Khalidor. He always noted it as being a land of stone. Valen Alus used a far different material for most of its structures. Sandstone was commonly utilized, many brick and clay structures could be seen in Valen Alus. However Khalidor was much different, stone paved streets and even the air was cold like stone. ā€œPerhaps I shall go on holiday here one day.ā€ Zexen said to his father Valen.

Valen smirked and replied, ā€œSo you can spend the entirety of the Holiday getting to the bottom of Khalidorā€™s wine vessels? Indeed.ā€ Valen chuckled. Zexen rolled his eyes and smiled at his fatherā€™s joke. Zexen wasnā€™t initially thinking about the wine but now that it was mentioned that simply sealed the deal as to him making plans.

The Royals were ushered into the palace where a lavish banquet awaited them. Valen, Zexen, and the Cinnabar Royals Arim and Aada had arrived there after those hailing from Anansai and Drake City. Upon entering the grand room, Valen stopped suddenly. He could feel powerful Miracle Based Faery Magic. This magic he had not encountered in a very long time. His eyes darted to and from scanning all present in the room and his heart felt as if and arrow had pierced it. He saw the Blue Faery for the first time in over a century. ā€œLuinā€¦ā€ he whispered to himself. Valen had not counted on anyone from Anansai being present at a human Trade Summit, however there stood Empress Tenanye and Prince Severyn alongside the very person he was afraid to face, The Blue Faery.

Valen also noted the presence of Moloch the King of Drake and his younger brother. Valen remembered the anxious and desperate nobles that assassinated the Drake kingā€™s parents. They came to Valen wanting to strike a deal for a way to kill the former King and Queen. Valen remembered conjuring a poison that was swift and merciless. Looking upon the Drake King now, Valen could see that he was strong of heart but it was not without its fair share of darkness. He wondered what his future with the Drake king would entail.

Zexen noticed his father stop cold as if he were staring at death itself. Looking on curiously, he addressed Valen. ā€œFather, are you alright?ā€

Valen quickly pulled himself together and flashed a quick smile. ā€œYes and no. I wasnā€™t expecting Anansai nobles to be present here. Seeing the young Empress and Prince brings back memories.ā€ Valenā€™s reply heavily omitted his biggest cause of anxiety, The Blue Faery.

Zexen was excited to see fae from Anansai. He didnā€™t often encounter his kind elsewhere in the world. He was already cooking up a plan to speak with every person from Anansai present to get information on his origins. Surely someone knew something, he thought. He then noticed the Blue Faery. He turned to his father as he spoke, ā€œIt is The Blue Faery. I didnā€™t think heā€™d be here.ā€

Valenā€™s eyes widened in shock at what he had just heard. ā€œHow do YOU know of him?ā€ Valen quickly inquired. His heart was racing. It was extremely rare when he felt nervous like this.

Zexen gave an arrogant smirk. ā€œWeā€™ve met before.ā€ Zexen, like a rebellious teenager, took a little pride in the fact that he got around a rule.

Valen frowned angrily. ā€œI had expressly forbidden anyone in Valen Alus to call upon Wishing Star Faeries. When did you,ā€œ Valen was interrupted by Zexen.

ā€œI didnā€™t call upon him in our kingdom. I was in Athedale at the time we met. I broke no law.ā€ Zexen replied smugly.

Valen discreetly grabbed Zexenā€™s arm and pulled him closer. ā€œWhat need had you of Father Superior?ā€ Valenā€™s tone was quiet and dark. He was not happy at all. However his anger would turn into concern with Zexenā€™s reply.

Zexenā€™s smug smile faded and was replaced with a melancholy stare. ā€œI tricked him into helping do something very dark. And I regret that I did such a heart blackening thing.ā€ Zexen lowered his eyes to the floor now feeling ashamed of his dark secret.

Valen worried about what his son had not told him. Something bad had happened that he was not aware of. However they had not the time to deal with it at the present moment. Valen placed a hand on Zexenā€™s shoulder reassuringly. ā€œMy son, whatever it is we will conquer it together. You neednā€™t worry anymore. Now letā€™s not be bad guests hm.ā€ Valen wanted to make sure his son was at peace so he set aside his anxiety. Zexen felt relieved and returned to a more normal disposition for himself.

Valen and Zexen approached the Nobles of Anansai. Valen bowed to the Empress. ā€œGreeting Empress Tenanye. It has been many years since weā€™ve last seen one another. I regret not being able to attend your coronation as Empress. Majesties and Luin appear to be well.ā€ Valen tried to hold it together and keep composed in front of Blue. It wasnā€™t very easy.

Blue was heavily flustered to see Valen. He wanted to shed tears but he held them at bay. However he couldnā€™t mask the look of longing on his face. ā€œValenā€¦ā€ Blue spoke quietly as he gazed upon his former lover. ā€œHow are you?ā€ Blue continued.

ā€œI am very well. Iā€™d like you all to meet my son. He informed me that you two have already met apparently.ā€ Valen replied. He had gained his fortitude back. He knew flaunting a son in front of Blue would make him assume that Valen had fallen in love with another and produced a child.

When Zexen had stepped forward and Father Superior saw him he remembered him and the event in which they met. ā€œI do indeed remember you child. I had no idea that Valen was your father.ā€ Father superior began to recall the vent in which they met.

{Flash back Scene 10 years prior}


It was a night bathe in blue moonlight. Much was quiet in the atmosphere of Athedale. Zexen had wandered out side into the nightā€™s forest. Zexen was desperate for a way to get his revenge on the commander for making him end his friendā€™s life. However the commander was slowly dying of a poisoned wound. Zexen knew he didnā€™t have much time left if he was going to make the commander Suffer the same feeling of loss he had. Zexen, needed to save the commander so that heā€™d have more time. Zexen sought out the Blue Star and called out ā€œLuin Elen, I call upon the Blue Faery.ā€ Father Superior had heard the call of his name, Luin Elen. He soon appeared before Zexen. Zexen looked in amazement. ā€œWow you really came.ā€ He said sounding in disbelief.

ā€œI know when Iā€™m needed.ā€ Father Superior replied as he, in pixie size, flew before Zexen. ā€œI can see child that you are not untouched by darkness. What is it that I can do for you young Fae?ā€ Father Superior asked. It was highly unusual for a Fae to ask for a wish from faeries. He knew that Zexen was definitely a Faery but lacked the feeling of one that dwelled in Anansai.

Zexen replied, ā€œI want to save my commander. Heā€™s been mortally poisoned and I donā€™t think there is a remedy to cure him of it and to save his life. Please help me save him. He canā€™t be allowed to die.ā€ Zexen was desperate. He needed to keep the commander alive so he could one day have his revenge. ā€œHe canā€™t die.ā€ He pleaded again.

Blue held his wand clasped in between his clasped hands and responded in a nurturing manner. ā€œIt is the way of the world young one.ā€

Zexen stepped a little closer. ā€œThere must be SOMETHING you can do.ā€ Zexen was nowhere near ready to give up. He was going to have his way one way or the other. Father Superior averted his gaze to the side and shook his head. Zexen knew that mannerism well. His father would do it when he wanted to refrain from divulging information and he couldnā€™t lie. ā€œYou know something donā€™t you? What arenā€™t you telling me?ā€ Zexen pushed the matter further.

Blue was couldnā€™t get around granting the wish as Zexen used his full name to summon him. Father Superior let out a heavy sigh and replied. ā€œI may be able to conjure a remedy that will save his life using magic that is forbidden to faeries in all but only the most dire of circumstances. You must promise to never tell anyone about this. No one must ever know.ā€

Zexen shook his head in compliance. ā€œYes anything!ā€ He responded eagerly.

Father Superior continued, ā€œTo save a life that is beyond salvation is to cheat death, one of the darkest of undertakings. Alas all magic comes with a price.ā€ Father Superior pointed his wand and a double sided candle began to hover in front of Zexen. It had white wax on one end and dark colored wax on the other. Zexen grabbed it and began examining it. ā€œThis candle will allow you to trade the life of one for another. You must hold the candle over the heart of the one you wish to sacrifice and whisper their name. Once the candle is lit that personā€™s life will be traded for the person you wish to save.ā€

Zexen replied, ā€œWait I have to choose who dies? What if I canā€™t do it?ā€

Father Superior looked Zexen in the eyes. ā€œThen the commander will die. However death is a part of the natural order of things. You shouldnā€™t interfere. You will darken your heart if you do this. I beg you not to use the candle.ā€

Zexen had an idea. This would essentially solve his problem. The sacrifice would be someone important to the commander, his son. Zexen held the candle close to him. ā€œI can do this and I will do this. Thank you for your help. I must go, I have a sacrifice to make.ā€ Zexen said, he then ran off with the candle leaving Father Superior with a heavy feeling of regret.

Arkaelus drank with the rest on Moloch's toast. The food had been brought out. Large servings of meats, potato, and wine were brought out to enjoy. He looked around at his guests. He was surprised by the turnout since many nations didn't take Khalidor seriously as it was not yet a military power. He was particularly interested in the fae of Anansai, even more so with his neighbor, Valen. His son looked strong, just as rumored. A strong, fit warrior. His cousin, Dorian, enjoyed meeting new challenges in his sparring matches.

"Zexen..." Arkaelus began, as the prince was closer to his chair. "I've heard that you're quite the warrior and I was wondering if you would hear out a request? My cousin Dorian is always looking for a good sparring partner and I think you would be just right. I don't believe you've met him, but he'll be here later. Anyway I'm sure that both of you could learn some new techniques from one another, after all it would be the best of Khalidor and the best of Valen Alus." Arkaelus did hope that Zexen would except. Sparring was one of the few things that Arkaelus knew Dorian could still do that truly made him happy, even if for a short while.

Dorian ordered his officers to search the city for the young prince. "If even a single hair on the princes head is harmed, decimation will be your last concern!" He shouted to the soldiers who then quickly hurried off to find the boy. "We'll find your brother soon." He said to the other princes. "I'm sure he'll be fine, hopefully he won't be part of the collateral."

After about ten minutes an officer came to him with the with news of the search. One soldier had found a tan boy. He also reported that they had found the merchant who caused the revolt, pointing to the prisoner near some of the soldiers. Dorian recognized that man. To his surprise it was one of senator Grido's men. "Bring the boy here." He told the officer in a grim voice. Then quietly added "Bring a cannonball and chain." So powerful rogue senator was conspiring against the republic. His day just kept getting worse by the moment.

Zexen was in awe of the Empress of Anansai. She was very beautiful and graceful. A funny little smile crept across his face as she nodded to him. He could see that there must have been some form of dynamics between her and his father. It was becoming really apparent that Valen had not left Anansai of his own accord. However what exactly happened to spark his departure and migration to present day Valen Alus?

Zexen thought back to the moment Valen and Father Superior greeted one another. He noted the odd exchange between the two. Zexen was beginning to see that the two had some form of complicated history. He knew that Father Superior seemed to make his father nervous seeing that Valen was aggressively against the summoning of wishing star faeries. But the real question was why. Zexenā€™s eyes toggled back and forth between the two and he noted, that they acted like separated ex-lovers. Zexenā€™s eyes narrowed. He tapped his father on the arm lightly, ā€œFather a word.ā€

ā€œYes.ā€ Valen replied as he was beginning to sit down.

Zexen took his seat next to his father, and made sure that Father Superior would sit on the other side of him. ā€œWhatā€™s the nature of your relation to Father Superior?ā€ He asked quietly.

Valen rolled his eyes slightly, his attempt at belittling the inquiry. ā€œLong and extremely complicated.ā€

Zexen smirked, ā€œI figured that would be your answer. Very well, I just wanted to get hear your response to the question before I asked him.ā€ Zexen immediately looked over toward Blue, who was getting settled in his seat. Just before Zexen could ask a question he saw a beautiful young fae woman enter the room. She caught the full attention of Empress Tenanye who immediately stood to her feet. Zexen felt that the Empress, in that moment, resembled his father when he was impatiently awaiting Zexenā€™s return from an excursion. The young man snickered a little looking at the event.

Tenanye rose then. "My Lord, Arkalus, In honor of our first venture out unto your world, and you, so graciously hosting us, We, The Fae of Anansai, have brought you the gift of our song." She announced, " With your blessing, once the other Lords and Ladies arrive, My sister, The Princess and the Finest Singer in Anansai, shall sing and dance it for you." She said and Xiao Jingshen, the young fae woman, shot to her feet. "My sister is much too kind, I shall do my best." She said, bowed and sat down again.

Zexen was much interested in seeing the young sister of the empress sing and dance. He wondered if the dances of Anansai were anything like the dances of Valen Alus. Moloch proposed a toast and everyone drank to it. Zexen couldnā€™t help but notice an exceptionally pleased look fall upon Valenā€™s face. He knew his father was interested in consulting for the Drake king. Zexen looked Moloch up and down in assessment. He had heard a lot about that man but had never before seen him in person. Zexen could tell that Moloch earned every bit of respect he commanded. The revelation only made Zexen begin to feel a bit in over his head.

Father Superior leaned a little closer toward Zexen. He spoke quietly, ā€œWith you always is a kingā€™s heart. Never lose faith in that strength dear. Itā€™ll carry you through the darkest of moments.ā€

Zexen felt like he saw a light at the end of a dark tunnel. He looked over to Blue and smiled. ā€œThank you Father Superior. I needed to hear that.ā€ Zexen took a moment and then spoke again, ā€œI also wanted to apologize to you for what I asked you to do before. You were right it was a heart darkening deed I set out upon and I regret having done what I did.ā€ Zexen took a big drink from his glass.

ā€œWorry not, you may have lost your way for a moment but you are back on the right path. No one is immune to darkness. I myself broke a rule doing what I did that day. You reminded me of a time when I could have held on to someone dear to me by breaking a rule and fighting for them. Instead I gave up on them, something I regret doing.ā€ Blue responded with a melancholy expression. Valen overheard the conversation and upon hearing Blueā€™s words he quietly closed his eyes to take it all in. Trying to keep up the appearance that he wasnā€™t listening he turned to look about the room.

Zexen replied, ā€œIā€™m sure you did the right thing back then. Youā€™re not head of the Nuns and Monks of Anansai for nothing.ā€ Zexen said with a chuckle. The wishing star faeries were known to be something akin to monks and nuns in the Anansai realm.

ā€œWell dear that is what I tell myself.ā€ Blue responded with a light smile.

Valen took a moment to approach Moloch. ā€œMoloch Markus, King of the magnificent Drake City. May I express my sincere desire to one day serve as a consultant to your cause whatever it may be. The magic of Valen Alus may be of service to you. You remind me of your parents, strong of both heart and will. I owe a debt to them, I would like to repay that debt by assisting you. If you decide on it, let me know.ā€ Valen soon returned to his table.

"Zexen..." Arkaelus began, as the prince was closer to his chair. Zexen was a bit surprised to be called. He turned to address the voice and it was of the King of Khalidor himself Arkaelus. He looked far more mature and had much more presence since he last saw him years ago.

Zexen responded somewhat shyly, ā€œYes your majesty.ā€ Zexen knew he wasnā€™t technically royalty like many of the others being kings, empresses and the like. His father simply claimed to be the Lord of his nation and Zexen was a young lord, a noble in their kingdom. Zexen tried to make sure he addressed people properly and in a way befitting his status.

The Khalidor King continued, "I've heard that you're quite the warrior and I was wondering if you would hear out a request? My cousin Dorian is always looking for a good sparring partner and I think you would be just right. I don't believe you've met him, but he'll be here later. Anyway I'm sure that both of you could learn some new techniques from one another, after all it would be the best of Khalidor and the best of Valen Alus."

Zexen felt flattered to be called the best warrior in his country especially from a foreigner. It was true that he rarely lost a match with some of the best warriors in Valen Alus. He was excellently trained by Peregrine Le Buque. Zexen was unaware that he had a reputation of combat prowess abroad. He hoped that he wasnā€™t blushing. ā€œI am most honored by your request your majesty. I accept. I can only hope that I am a challenge for Sir Dorian. I look forward to meeting him. I also wanted to express how much I admire the architecture here in your kingdom. It is very regal. I would like to visit here on holiday sometime soon.ā€ Zexen took another drink from his cup.

Valen was most proud of his son. He gave a glance toward Father Superior who quietly watched Zexen with a smile. Valen couldnā€™t help but wonder how much, if anything, did Father Superior actually know about Zexen. Given Blueā€™s rule as the Superior sage of wishing star faeries he had a connection to a higher powered entity in Anansai that gave him insight on certain things that others didnā€™t have. However Valen seemed sure that Father Superior had no knowledge of the truth behind his secret.

Valen took this moment to present his gift to Arkaelus. ā€œKing Arkaelus, Zexen and I would like to present you with a gift for your invitation to this summit, and for being a kind host to us.ā€ Valen then presented the ring. ā€œThis, my lord, is a magic ring most rare. It is called Binding Agreement. When wearing this ring any deals you make become binding when you and the other party shake hands. The party who breaks their end of the bargain with suffer an unfortunate happening as punishment. May your future deals be honest and true.ā€ Valen handed the ring box over to Valen with a relaxed smile.

Father Superior cringed a little, ā€œI see some things seldom change with time.ā€ He said quietly as he folded his arms. He decided that he no longer wished to watch Valen back in his old habit of dangling darkness in front of mortals. He stepped over to the royals of Cinnabar. He bowed, ā€œGreeting your majesties. Iā€™m Father Superior of the wishing star faeries of Anansai. I wanted to express to you that your people are quite the dreamers. The wishes that come from the citizens of Cinnabar are so full of hope and pure intention. That is a sign of a gentle leader. I felt that was something you should know, to cherish and to nurture within your kingdom.ā€

Arim looked around the room. Nearly every major power was represented. He felt a gnawing in his gut. Aada's hand rested on his arm, "Relax brother," she said quietly, "everything will work out as it will. There is no need to be anxious."

Despite himself, Arim chuckled, "You were always better suited to the court Aada," he took a moment to look at Aada. She was wearing a dress he hadn't seen before. It was red for the most part, although the skirt seemed to shift in colour as Aada moved, panels of material flickered like a..."A flame?"

Aada looked down at her dress, "That was why I chose this particular material. Fire is my strongest suit of magic after all."

"Oh, really? I would never have guessed that," Arim said, remembering all too often the times he had walked in on Aada manipulating the fires in the hearth. Once, when they were children, he had seen her coax a dying ember into a roaring fire. Fire had never been his strong suit. The air was where his strengths lay when it came to magic.

"Yes, it came as quite the surprise to everyone," Aada lowered her voice as the Fae girl began her performance, "Mother most of all."

"It's beautiful, Aada."

Aada smiled at her brother's unexpected compliment. She murmured a quiet thanks, before returning her attention to Empress Tenanye's sister. Arim watched, too, as the girl moved with a grace beyond any mortal man or woman. As her performance came to a close, the Funar siblings politely clapped. Aada leaned over to Arim, "The man Valen is speaking with is King Arkaleus, our host."

"I know who he is," Arim answered, trying, and failing, to keep the tension from his voice.

Aada looked up at her brother. "Of course." Aada saw Valen present something to Arkaleus, but from this distance, she couldn't hear what was being said. They would have to be careful, as much as Cinnabar and Valen Alus were allies, Fae magic had a habit of biting people when they least expected it. Aada forced her features into a more neutral expression when she saw one of Empress Tenanye's party heading towards them.

ā€œGreeting your majesties. Iā€™m Father Superior of the wishing star faeries of Anansai. I wanted to express to you that your people are quite the dreamers. The wishes that come from the citizens of Cinnabar are so full of hope and pure intention. That is a sign of a gentle leader. I felt that was something you should know, to cherish and to nurture within your kingdom.ā€

Depends on who you believe the leader to be, Aada thought, silently willing her brother to say something. He was, technically speaking, the leader of Cinnabar. Their just and noble King Arim.

"Thank you for your kind words, Father. I hope that my people are content, it's all a King can truly wish for. An angry populace makes for uncertain times, something we could all do without." Arim answered, surprising Aada with how smoothly he spoke. He had made it through an entire exchange without making himself look like an idiot. Perhaps this was a sign that he was finally learning.

Moloch was surprised to find that he felt a certain amount of sadness as he saw the brief look of distrust on Empress Tenanye's before she returned his toast and offered a gift of song and dance to their host. He did not feel any malice towards the Fae. He simply couldn't afford to leave himself or his people vulnerable. Still, wariness on the part of one's peers was good, Moloch reminded himself. It meant that there was respect there and with respect came fear, unfortunately, but fear was necessary. If that lunatic in Valyria did not fear Moloch, then his people would be in danger.

As they moved to leave, Kallias opened his mouth to say something to his new Fae twin, but words failed him, particularly as the singing and dancing began. He felt something grab hold of his heart as his mind turned to memories of simpler times. A gentle laugh, a strong grip on his shoulder, the gentle teasing of a voice before it lost its innocence and laughter... He felt a single tear run down his cheek, but he did not move to wipe it away. He looked upon the Fae with a new appreciation. Even his brother looked impressed, though he still maintained a regal expression, never forgetting that he was a king. Again, Kallias felt something clench his heart, but there was no pleasure in it this time. Could Moloch ever really let down his guard.

The sound of clapping interrupted his thoughts.

"Remarkable, simply remarkable. The Fae are, as always, beyond this world," Cyrus mused, clapping his old hands together. Kallias looked at his old tutor in surprise.

"Have you encountered them before?"

"Oh, a few times. Each was more magical than the others," Cyrus stated with a small smile. Kallias opened his mouth to say that that didn't make any sense whatsoever, but the old man waved him away.

"Later, my prince, later..."

Kallias nodded, but was surprised to find that a man had approached his brother without him noticing. He shivered. Kallias wasn't sure he liked the man.

Moloch looked thoughtful and very suspicious, but Kallias knew that he would speak to him later. It wasn't like him to pass over a new ally without a thought. Cyrus had frowned. That magi obviously did not think much of the man.

"Come, now, my king. This isn't the time to ask the Darkness what favors it might grant you," the old magi half-teased, half-warned, "Instead, take a look towards the Light. That must be the Princess Aada of Cinnabar. She has created quite a stir, even among the Circle of Magi."

Reluctantly, Moloch felt his gaze shift from the Dark Faery and over on to the Royalty of Cinnabar. His gaze fell upon the princess, as Cyrus had intended. She was quite beautiful, he noted, and he dress was designed to accentuate the beauty, giving her the appearance of a flame. He felt himself raise an eyebrow during the course of her and her brother's conversation with Father Superior. Her expression matched her appearance if only a for a moment. It was like a fire trying to break free from its confines and one need only look to her side to find what those confines might be. He found it intriguing.

"Kallias, you seem subdued. Go, enjoy the celebration..."

"But, oh, yes, of course, brother," Kallias murmured, attempting to reach the Fae. He wanted to see if Severyn enjoyed the same type of wine he did anyway.

Cyrus smiled mischievously and Moloch gave his old tutor a look. Nonetheless, they both rose to meet the Royals of Cinnabar. The magi chuckled.

"Believe me, you do not want to face an angry mob, Your Grace. One can be more dangerous than a hundred knights. May I present King Moloch Markus of Drake."

"It is a pleasure," Moloch greeted, his eyes still favoring Princess Aada, though he took a moment to take the measure of King Arim. He looked the part of the king, but was he really one in spirit as well as fact? He bowed his head respectfully.

"Your fire is most delightful," he told the princess, "Though, I confess, I know little of Cinnabar."

Nemu approached the gates of the castle in which the trade summit was taking place, her duel pairs of bodyguards in their dark cowls obscuring her and guarding her from prying eyes. The guards who stood at attention to their approach eyed them suspiciously, clearly unwilling to allow the darkly clad strangers entrance to a summit of royals.
"Beat it you lot, only royalty and their representatives are permitted access to the summit, take yourselves elsewhere." Their leader said, a burly man in a slightly more ostentatious version of the guards apparel.
"I am here representing my master." Nemu said, coming to a stop before the growing crowd of guards, her four mammoth attendants dwarfing even the largest of the cities watchmen.
"Oh yeah, and who would that be darling, your pimp?" One of them said, eliciting a scattered mutter of laughter amongst the group.
Nemu waited for the noise to die down before answering, her voice toneless, "I serve my master, Tsarvin Sphex, lord of the Wyrmspire and Master of the Wastes."
There was a collective paling of faces and mutters of disbelief, the name was a byword for terror and agony, her masters unnaturally long life allowing plenty of time for the cultivation of rumour, of myth, of nightmares.
"I am to believe the summit is open to all rulers? My Master is indisposed, and has sent me in his stead. I assume there is no problem with this?" Nemu said, oblivious to the effect she was having.
"How Do I know you're telling the truth?" The guardsman said, rattled but not shaken from his duty.
Nemu reached up and removed her cowl, causing a collected gasp of horror and a few gags of lost stomachs. Beneath her cowl, her face was its usual appearance, but above that, six, four inch long glass capsules stood in duel lines down her shaven skull. Each one was two inches in diameter, and contained a virulent green fluid with swirls of red blood, but it was what floated within each capsule that horrified the guards. Inside each glass container, floating in the green fluid, was a chunk of brain matter, connected up to various tubes and sinewy strands of organic matter that lead down into her skull. The horrific pieces of neuro-synaptic tissue twitching occasionally. A last minute addition to her body from Sphex, he had deemed that when working on her own, She would require the extra grey matter to assist in understanding and adapting to changing intellectual discussion.
He would remove it once she returned. The heightened mental capacity was not something she needed on a permanent bases.
"I trust this will suffice as proof of whom I serve?" Nemu said, her head cocking to the side.
"Ye-... uh, Yes, Yes, please, enter, the rest of the delegations have almost all arrived."
Nemu replaced her cowl, much to the thanks of the green city guard, "Thank you." Without another word she strode past the guards and into the castle, her accelerated brain capacity whirring as she took in the unnatural stimuli from her secondary brain segments, processing feelings and emotions she had not encountered in an age. She did not like it. She wished for the simplicity of her purpose, when there was only the master, only he that mattered. It was alright, he would relieve her of them once her task was complete. Maybe he would even reward her.
Against all of psycho-conditioning she had been subjected too, the influence of her secondary brains influenced her muscular movements.
She smiled.
Her movements were unimpeded as she and her cohort moved towards the hall where a mortified servant had told her the royal dignitaries were meeting, only being stopped in a chamber before the hall, where a number of palace guards tentatively stopped her. Once her own guards were given the order to remain outside, and she had been checked for any OBVIOUS signs of armament, she was permitted to enter.
The doors swung open and she was led in by man in fine robes who announced her arrival, as no doubt he had done all the dignitaries before him, "The uhh... The Lady Nemu, representing the interests of her master... Tsarvin Sphex..." He finished with a half terrified, half disgusted look upon his face. Sphex was a creature of nightmares, a monster children were warned of, some did not believe he even existed.
"Greetings, my lords and ladies," Nemu said, stepping forward with short, jerky steps, her elbows bent and hands clasped before her, stiff and artificial, "I am here so I may convey the will of my master." She bent and gave a jerky, stiff curtsey, which inadvertently pulled back her hood to reveal the grisly augmentation along her scalp, "It is a honour."

After the Prince and Princess of Cinnabar arrived, and began to speak among the others. Xiao Jingshen rose to begin her dance. Her heart racing at the prospect. Tenanye had confidence in her but regardless, she would do her best as she said. She moved to the front of the room. A few faeries following her, a lute player and a sitar player. As the music began to play,Xiao Jingshen began to sway softly to the music. Finally, when she began to sing, magic softly touching her words.

Xiao Jingshen let the note linger on until finally bowing. She rose her head, hearing clapping and applause. She smiled bashfully, watching her sisterā€™s proud gaze as she gave a simple nod that spoke volumes.
It was then the door opened and Xiao Jingshen froze hooded female appeared with the two fined robed men. "The uhh... The Lady Nemu, representing the interests of her master... Tsarvin Sphex..." Said the herald and Xiao Jingshen gasped. As the girl stepped forward, her movements odd and strange.
"Greetings, my lords and ladies," said the girl. "I am here so I may convey the will of my master." The girl bent, pulling back the hood she wore revealing a horrible disfigurement. "It is a honour." She said and Xiao Jingshen gasped. ā€œBy the Mother!ā€ She rushed to her sisterā€™s side, clinging to her while Tenanye held her tight, shushing her softly. Her sister looked to their host then at the girl. Xiao Jingshen hid her face for her fear. ā€œGreetings, Lady Nemu,ā€ She said, ā€œYou say, your master sent you? Tsarvin...? Who is that?ā€ She asked, her tone even, and unwavering, though Xiao Jingshen could feel her sister body go completely still.

"Thank you for your kind words, Father. I hope that my people are content, it's all a King can truly wish for. An angry populace makes for uncertain times, something we could all do without." Arim responded as he and Aada spoke with Father Superior. Blue had high hopes for the Kingdom of Cinnabar.

Father Superior turned to acknowledge the King of Drake as he and the older magi approached. ā€œMay I present King Moloch Markus of Drake." Cyrus introduced Moloch. Father Superior looked upon the magi curiously. They had met once before a very long time ago. Neither party seemed to let on that theyā€™d ever encountered one another before.

"It is a pleasure," Moloch greeted, his eyes seemingly favoring Princess Aada, though he took a moment to take the measure of King Arim. He bowed his head respectfully.

Blue bowed to the Drake King respectfully, ā€œYour Majesty, it is an honor.ā€ he said to Moloch. Blue could tell that the king of Drake City was taken by the Cinnabar Princess. He smiled kindly. ā€œIf youā€™ll excuse me please.ā€ he said politely as he shifted to his pixie size in a blue flash. He bowed once more as he hovered in the air and then flew towards Zexen, Tenanye, Xiao, Valen and Arkaelus. Blue felt he had been human size long enough and wanted to return to what was more comfortable.

Soon the door to the grand room opened up and another guest was about to be introduced. Father Superior could immediately feel a rush of darkness flood into the room. It was as if this cloaked person carried the energy of hell itself on their presence. He hadnā€™t felt this sort of dark energy in quite a long time, not since the before the Wastes were closed off to the rest of the world.

Zexen looked over toward the floating Blue Faery that hovered about shoulder height and asked, ā€œFather Superior whatā€™s wrong?ā€

Father Superior kept his eyes fixed on the figure and its entourage as he replied to Zexen. He materialized his wand into his hand and readied himself for the worst. ā€œDear child something VERY dark has come into our presence, hailing from a land long since closed off to the world.ā€

The Khalidoran man dressed in fine robes nervously announced the cloaked guest. "The uhh... The Lady Nemu, representing the interests of her master... Tsarvin Sphex..." He finished with a half terrified, half disgusted look upon his face.

Valenā€™s face couldnā€™t avoid displaying the shock he felt in the pit of his stomach upon hearing the name Tsarvin Sphex. That was an entity that freaked even him out. The presence of a representative of Sphex meant that the Wastes were no longer in an isolated state. The world would once again see a new form of horror that it had long since almost forgotten. Valen hoped that the invitation sent to Tsarvin Sphex was in error. However at this point it mattered very little.

Zexen looked on curiously. ā€œIsnā€™t Tsarvin Sphex some scary story adults tell children about to keep them from getting out of bed in the middle of the night and go wondering around? But thatā€™s just a scary fable.ā€ He said to blue.

Father Superior replied quickly with an unusual hit of nervousness in his voice. ā€œOhā€¦ dear you donā€™t know what youā€™re saying. Tsarvin Sphex is a scary reality that I had hoped the world had seen the last of. Unfortunately I was wrong.ā€

Zexen seemed a bit more concerned than he was previously. Realizing that the beautiful and talented Fae Xiao was still relatively close to this feared entity he grew protectively concerned. Zexen took a few steps forward in an effort to reach Xiao. He felt compelled to safeguard the young woman. After the cloaked figure made a few obscure movements toward Xiao she stopped and spoke.

"Greetings, my lords and ladies," said the lady presented as Nemu. "I am here so I may convey the will of my master." Nemu bent, pulling back the hood she wore revealing a horrible disfigurement. "It is a honour." She said.

Xiao Jingshen gasped. ā€œBy the Mother!ā€ She rushed to her sisterā€™s side, clinging to her while Tenanye held her tight, shushing her softly. Her sister looked to their host then at the girl. Xiao Jingshen hid her face for her fear. Zexen was relieved that Xiao got away from Nemu. However he honestly felt sick looking at the disgusting state of Nemuā€™s body. He tried to be tough and keep eyes on the tortured physical form that was Nemu but he could no longer manage it and averted his gaze.

ā€œGreetings, Lady Nemu,ā€ Tenanye said, ā€œYou say, your master sent you? Tsarvin...? Who is that?ā€ She asked, her tone even, and unwavering.

Blue realized that the young Empress of Anansai had never before encountered the likes of Tsarvin Sphex. Blue remembered a time when the warring was strong in the Wastes and cries and prayers went up into the skies for days. The torment the souls there endured was immeasurable. The darkness enveloping those lands repelled any chance of the faeries to help. That realm was beyond salvation.

Valen stepped beside his son and the hovering pixie sized Father Superior and added on to Empress Tenanyeā€™s inquiry. ā€œAnd what intentions does your master wish for you to convey? What possibly would a representative of the Wastes desire to give and gain from a trade summit?ā€

"My Master is the Alchemancer, Tsarvin Sphex," Nemu said in response to the two faeries questions, "Due to historical embargoes on my Masters realm, we have shrunk from the eye of the other nations, but we are still very much... alive." Nemu strode towards the gathered nobles who stood in attendance, particuarly the small group of various Faeries, who fascinated her greatly. Sphex had procured few Fae specimens in her time, and each time coveted them as a rare resource, as were their magical items.
"My Masters reasons for sending myself to represent him, are the same as yours. We seek trade. As you may know, Father Superior, the land that my Master controls is of little agricultural worth, and as a result of this and said... embargoes, we have had to adapt to survive. But Merely surviving is something We would wish to move on from. Despite the Wastes lack of useable lands, there is much we have to trade." She looked around at the arrayed nobles, eyeing each carefully, "Assuming you are not as squeamish as your vassal, Queen Tenanye."
Her scan of the nobles complete, her gaze jerked back to the Fae, her mouth forming a mechanical approximation of a smile, "But such discussions should be held for the summit."

There was something omnious about this creature, twisted and broken. "Assuming you are not as squeamish as your vassal, Queen Tenanye."
"Hardly." Was Tenanye's response.
"But such discussions should be held for the summit."

Xiao Jingshen rose up some, nearing Tenanye's ear. "She scares me, Meimei." She whispered, and Tenanye, never taking her cold eyes from Nemu.

"Be at peace, Little Sparrow, We are spiders." She told her. Her House saying, hoping to instill some family pride and strength to the girl. Severyn, seated beside Tenanye, eyed the creature as well. "Did your master, make you this way, Lady Nemu?" He asked, calmly but Tenanye could see the tension in his body. "Did you choose this?"

Severyn was always quick, and sometimes his intuition was frighteningly accurate. She didn't know how he came to this conclusion, perhaps the term "Master" but it was clear that Severyn was under the impression that this "Lady" was in fact, a slave of some fashion.

There was not much that surprised Moloch, but the appearance of this "Lady" from the Wastes threw him off balance. Even not taking her appearance in account, he felt something sinister in her very essence. Moloch resisted the urge to shiver. He was no true magi, but the dragonblood in his veins made him sensitive to certain things.

If Moloch was uncomfortable, Cyrus was furious. Moloch could see the old man practically shaking, his usual amused expression wiped away, replaced with a grim frown and eyes as hard as daggers made of dragonbone. Cyrus stood up to reach his full height and recited bitterly,

"Oh Avalon, Avalon! Land of lush meadows and crystal streams.
Who among the living remembers your bountiful yields,
The creatures in your heart,
Or the people you took to your bosom?
Oh, Avalon, Avalon!
If I cease to sing of your memory,
Let my right hand no longer remember its strength,
Or my mind heart, mine own children!"

The old man sighed and looked upon the woman with some pity. Yet his tone broke no argument as he spoke once again.

"What can your Master offer but blasphemy, distortion, and destruction?"

The feast had been going so well until the interruption of some pest. Sphex had sent his tool to dirty the grand palace. Arkaelus thought that the madman was supposed to meet with Dorian over the possibilities of a contract. That creature was a smart man, he wouldn't send his minion to make business in front of everyone. No it must have been to prove a point.

The other leaders were not at all happy to see the servant or for it to utter it's master's name. Even Moloch seemed surprised. Arkaelus was well aware of the monsters of the wastes, his grandfather had even bought some to clear out the native people attacking some of the colonies. Yet the wastes were far from Khalidor, but so close to Drake. Perhaps it was time to end this charade.

"Its master can offer us nothing." Arkaelus spoke calmly. "Sphex makes only weapons of war, tools of destruction for those desperate enough to use them. Begone monster and return to that wretch of man you serve!" He held is hand in the air, ready to signal the guards in the room to shoot Nemu. This, of course, was just a spectacle if anything.

Arim turned his attention away from the Father Superior to the two men who had now joined them. One was an older man who carried the wisdom of his years about him, the other a much younger looking man, no doubt King Moloch. He felt Aada's hand tighten on his arm. The change was slight but noticeable enough. Don't mess up, it said, for the umpteenth time on their journey. Creator help her children with all her fretting. Aada's hand left his arm as she dipped in a curtsy. Arim inclined his head.

"It is a pleasure," Moloch greeted them.

"An honour, Your Majesty," he said as Moloch's eyes flickered over him and onto Aada.

"Your fire is most delightful," he said to Aada, "Though, I confess, I know little of Cinnabar."

Arim looked between his sister and Moloch. Surely she wouldn't...

Aada took a moment to look at Moloch. It was rare that someone paid attention to her when her brother was also in the room. Well, they certainly looked, but they saw an instrument, a means to end of getting into Arim's good books, or getting a woman in their bed. She was rarely their sole intention. And here was Moloch, King of a great nation, ignoring her brother and looking to her instead. She wasn't about to spurn him, no matter what her brother might think of the men at this place.

"Then I apparently have you at a disadvantage Your Majesty. Drake is a land that has held much of my curiosity since I was a child. The Circle of Magi particularly, though what we hear of The Circle in Cinnabar is little more than whispers."

Apparently she would, Arim thought. What happened to worrying about the men? Or was this different because Moloch was 'handsome'? It couldn't have been the power he wielded, Aada was a Crown Princess, she was yet to be seduced by power. Aada's intentions might have been innocent, but Arim was certain that Moloch's were not so innocent.

The doors swung open and a woman was lead in. "The uhh... The Lady Nemu, representing the interests of her master... Tsarvin Sphex..."

"Greetings, my lords and ladies," the woman, Lady Nemu, said, in a voice that sounded near unnatural. Combined with her jerking movements, there was something truly unsettling about the woman. "I am here so I may convey the will of my master." Nemu curtsied, or at least tried to, the motion pulling her hood from her head, revealing a grizzly addition to her scalp. "It is a honour."

Aada watched Nemu. There was something about the woman, a perverse darkness that Aada didn't trust. Apparently, neither did anyone else in the room. The Fae seemed the most unsettled. She reached for her brother's hand, the way she had done when they were children. Before her fingers could brush against Arim's hand, Aada dropped her hand away. He had been little use to her then, she doubted he'd be much better now.

Empress Tenanye was the first to speak to their new arrival. ā€œGreetings, Lady Nemu,ā€ Tenanye said, ā€œYou say, your master sent you? Tsarvin...? Who is that?ā€

ā€œAnd what intentions does your master wish for you to convey? What possibly would a representative of the Wastes desire to give and gain from a trade summit?ā€ Valen added.

Aada had heard stories of the Wastes. Dark, horrifying tales that 'young ladies shouldn't hear'. But that was all she dismissed them as. Mere fairy tales meant to scare children into being good and fanciful tales to pass among friends. It had never occurred to her that there might be some truth to those stories. Looking at Lady Nemu, evidently there was something deeply wrong happening there. She felt Arim's hand on her shoulder, pulling her back as he stepped forward to shield her. A stupid thing to do, since she was the stronger mage, but she wasn't about to start arguing about it now. A single look at his face told her that he could feel it too. Even though his magic was weaker than Aada's, he could feel the darkness that moved within her. And it scared him. Aada had seen Arim be many things; elated, shamed, desperate, content, grief-stricken; but never afraid, not like this. And that worried her more than anything.

As you may know, Father Superior, the land that my Master controls is of little agricultural worth, and as a result of this and said... embargoes, we have had to adapt to survive. But Merely surviving is something We would wish to move on from. Despite the Wastes lack of usable lands, there is much we have to trade." Nemu looked around the room, slowly taking in each of them. He nodded. "Are you alright?"

Nemu cocked her head at King Arkaelus, the man who had summoned them all there that day, her look inquisitive.
"My lord Arkaelus, it is true that my master is skilled in the creation of the tools of war, but they are far from his only skills. My master through the ages has discovered poultices and potions, elixirs and tonics that can heal the body, strengthen the mind and enhance the senses. War is not my masters goal, Lord Arkaelus, only enlightenment."
Nemu turned back to Tenanye and her entourage, and responded to the males question, his name not present in her memories, "In answer to your question, Faeling, my will is my masters will, what he desires, I desire. I serve him willingly, and my body his his to fashion."
She turned back to Arkaelus, whom still had is arms raised, ready to call down his guards should they be needed, "My lord, would you turn away those who come with the offer or peaceful trade, because of child-hood stories of monsters and demons?"
She turned and walked towards the door slowly, deliberately mocking the ensemble of lords and ladies, "Such actions are belittling of a king."

Nemu seemed uninterested in this but still moved to the door.

The poor creature said and Severyn frowned, casting a gaze back at Tenanye. "His to fashion...?" He said and Tenanye only shook her head. "Leave it, we can not help the slave who loves her chains." She said as she watched Nemu speak to Arkaelus. "My lord, would you turn away those who come with the offer or peaceful trade, because of child-hood stories of monsters and demons?" She said. "Such actions are belittling of a king."
Tenanye stood then, Xiao Jingshen clinging to Severyn now as Tenanye rounded the table.
"If that were true, Nemu...." She said, allowing her irises to disperse within her eyes, like an drop of ink on parchment. She wouldn't show the fullness of her true form, but close enough. "We Fae would not be here. We are the creatures of childhood nightmare and dreams...we too come in peace, however." Tenanye said, her fingers elongating, the tips turning black and shining at the nails, that dripping with acidic poison. "We do not mock those we come to make peace with...." She said, her voice an eerie calm, like the static before a storm. "You should know this, if you intended any progress with your masters so called peaceful trade." She said, then shrugged,. "But you are only a slave, how could you know anything beyond what he tells you?" She said and with that she slide back on her Fae Glamour. She tossed her hand and took a seat. "All the same, I believe you were asked to leave."

Nemu seemed uninterested in this but still moved to the door.

Father Superior, Zexen and Valen watched the happening. Father Superior was surprised to see the empress resort to showing a portion of her true form however she was proving an important point. Zexen was beginning to feel a little bad. He knew that Nemu was not being given a fair chance. He wasnā€™t fond of her demeanor nor her appearance, nor tales of her malicious master but that didnā€™t mean she should be turned away unfairly. One of the guards, nervous and frightened by the happenings, accidentally pulled the trigger of his rifle causing the other riflemen to fire their rounds. Zexen yelled ā€œSTOP!!!ā€ aloud.

Father Superior quickly flew forward and pointed his blue wand at the bullets and a blue aura surrounded them. The bullets halted in the air and soon fell to the ground. He turned to look towards the riflemen with a heavy exhale. He held no faith in anything or anyone from the Wastes yet he knew right was right and that Nemu deserved to be treated fairly. Zexen was right.

Zexen stepped forward as he said, ā€œThis is not the way.ā€ Valen looked upon his son at a loss for words. The pixie sized Father Superior hovered not too far from the rifle bullets that lay upon the floor. Zexen walked towards Nemu and as he reach her he kneeled down before her. ā€I believe that you have been mistreated. Even if no one else agrees to listen to your masterā€™s propositions, I, as a representative of Valen Alus, will agree to hear you out. You have my word, although I cannot promise that we will reach an agreement.ā€ He then turned to look upon the faces of all other rulers present after standing. ā€I urge you all to follow suite. Although I am but a lowly ambassador and not a ruler, I beseech you to be fair to all present here. For is it not the general premise of our gathering and negotiations?ā€

Blue flew beside him and Nemu. ā€The young fae is right. We should exhibit fairness at such a time. For there may come a day when we regret having not listened to each other when we had fair chance.ā€
