Personality:
Francis Pendragon is an objective personality type. He generally appears as neutral in his approach to others. It is difficult to tell what or whose side he’s really on. The safest thing to assume with Francis is that he’s on his own side rather than anyone else’s. He is very personable, a trait that has served him well in the international trade business. He is very artistic, composing poems and music at his very whim. He likes to take things leisurely and not to stress over anything if he can help it.

He loves his wife and enjoys her tenacity. She’s highly energetic and her whims often spur him to action where otherwise he would take his time. He knows how to make money so it is nothing for him to give it away. He behaves like a king although he is merely a governor. He is equally respected as if he were a king by others internationally because of his successes as a trader and a trade liaison for others. Francis is always seen smiling, even when times were difficult; he was raised to always save face.

Quirks and Habits:
He and his wife are in an open relationship yet they are very much in love with each other.
He finds both women and men attractive and with sleep with either without hesitation. He and Vanessa openly welcome others into their bedroom

Land/Kingdom: Valyria
History:
Francis Pendragon was born into the noble Pendragon family of Drake city. An achieved family of politicians, scholars, artists, businessmen, as well as musicians, Francis was brought up as a jack of all trades. At his christening it was discovered that he had a natural talent for Bard magic and as a child a bard rune was affixed to him. He was classically trained in many musical formats and was expected to take his others non-artistic studies just as seriously. It was in Drake City’s universities that Francis met Moloch Markus. The two were classmates and swiftly became friends.
Image

Francis would soon spend time in Valyria where he would meet Vanessa the younger sister of soon to be Queen of Valyria, Caemryn. Francis fell for her beauty and her tenacity. Vanessa challenged him and loved him just as fiercely. Francis was never bored with her and he was crazy about her. Vanessa was betroth to marry a nobleman of another country and married him much to Francis’ despair. He during that time vowed never to love again.

Image

Vanessa murdered her husband and after threatening her parents into allowing her to marry whom she chose, Francis and Vanessa were wed. Francis permanently moved to Valyria and lived with his wife Vanessa. He misses Drake City often and travels there whenever he can to visit his family. He has mixed feelings about his Sister-in –law’s intentions regarding conquering Drake City and ending Moloch Markus. He would never do anything to intentionally harm his friend. However his family/ marriage oaths compel him to side with Valyria on political matters that may set him against Drake City.

Image

After his marriage to Vanessa and his relocation to Valyria, Francis would soon be promoted to Governor of Southern Valyria. He was responsible for drafting up a plan to increase in kingdom productivity so that the kingdom would become completely self-sufficient in all areas thus eliminating the necessity of trade for resources. Francis was grateful that the King and Queen trusted such a matter to him and that he did not disappoint them. Francis has become a trade consultant internationally and has amassed much wealth through his trade endeavors.

Vanessa and Peregrine both listened and watched Caemryn respond to Vanessa’s previous explanation of intent. "A Trip?" Caemryn said unbelievingly. "You've seen my husband, if I don't keep him in that damnable "laboratory" I won't have any people to rule...I can't leave him and I certainly can't take him anywhere..." She snapped, her breathing quick, but she sat back against her chair, drinking from her wine glass. "I never did tell you what happened the day we were engaged, did I?" She said, thrusting out her arm. "More Wine." she said without looking at the wine bearer.

Image

Vanessa looked on curiously, her head cocked to the side. ”No you never did
” she said in an apprehensive tone. Caemryn needed alcohol to tell this story so it was bound to have been REALLY bad, Vanessa thought. Peregrine sat quietly listening intently. Since what was about to be told all happened before he relocated to the kingdom of Valyria he was intrigued to hear this rare tale.

Caemryn continued, "I was young, as you remember when father brought me to meet the King of Valyria...I was excited, I just knew I would be Queen." She began, taking a swing of wine. "What I hadn't known was there were many girls, awaiting to become Queen. So when I arrived, I put it into my head that I would do anything to make him choose me." She said.

Image

Peregrine noted that the wine was beginning to take its effect on the queen, something he wasn’t used to seeing in regards to her. He knew that she was having a really vulnerable moment by recounting this experience. He was beginning to feel a little for her. She carried much weight on her shoulders yet she rarely ever let it show that it was quite the burden that it truly was. He looked over to Vanessa who seemed to sit bracing herself for the worst. Clearly Caemryn’s tale hadn’t reached its epitome yet it was already shocking Vanessa, another feat not easily met.

"We were all presented to the King, all at once. That's when I noticed something was off about him. He was handsome enough but he would warp his face, twitch every so often. It was odd, but I left it alone, twisted it into my head so that it seemed charming." She said, her lip twitched in disgust. "The whole day, we all danced and sang and laughed for no real reason, all to please him. Realizing that the usual tricks wouldn't work, I decided to learn him, find out what interested him and I did...You see, You were never meant to be Queen of anything, you weren't raised that way, but me, Our parents, our mother, she made sure I would be Queen, it was expected of me." She said, looking at her sister.

Image

Vanessa looked to the side in thought. She realized that Caemeryn brought up an interesting point. Thinking back on how their parents were, they never seemed to push her into marriage until the last minute. It was an afterthought when it concerned Vanessa. However Caemryn was always associated with social ladder climbing. Caemryn could never sit up straight enough or speak eloquently enough, whereas Vanessa was allowed to slouch or be informal in speech. Caemryn was introduced to a king as Vanessa was given to an older nobleman of good social standing. Vanessa snapped out of her own thoughts and continued to listen.

"So, when all was said in done, and we retired for the evening, I snuck my way into his chambers. I found him there, in bed, he wasn't sleeping, just laying there, face twitching. I moved to him, graceful and soft. I told him, how lovely I thought his eyes were, and how bright his teeth were, but that didn't seem to interest him, it wasn't until he noticed that my dress was red and told me that was his favorite, I asked him why and he told me...It reminded him a fire, but not fire itself, but what it did to the skin. That's when I knew, this man, or boy then, was insane....I didn't let it deter me though, because, I would be Queen, so I asked him to show me." She said, with a measured smile, "I let him hold my candle to my arm, and burn my skin. He held it there in just enough time for my skin to turn red. I didn't move, I just let it happen." She said and took another drink. "He likes to tell me, that was the day he fell in love with me..." She said disdainfully. "Anyway, I told him after that, how fascinating that was, but I feared he would not be able to show me any more things like that because I would have to leave, that he would have to marry one of the other girls, and she wouldn't like that but if we marry, I would become his, and his forever, and he could show me all the things he wanted to. " She said and her gaze drifted.

Peregrine looked composed yet he was astonished at the queen’s bravery and determination. To tell a psycho that you want them to show you more of their insane fantasy, even worse that you’d give yourself to them was crazy. The weak willed would never go that far. This was why Peregrine revered the queen as well as noted her as a threat. She was determined to the bitter end and didn’t scare easily. To make an enemy of her would be to make a grave mistake. He wanted to be as close to her as he could get. That was safer than being on the outskirts of her graces.

"With that, I gave him a kiss, on the forehead, and went to bed, and I knew I won him over....What I hadn't known, was what he would do next and what he did shocked me..." She said and looked at her sister. " You remember mother, her teachings, her lessons in blood magic, do I look easily shocked?"
She asked rhetorically. "What he did, shocked me." She said, her gaze drifting "I can still see them....All the girls, all of my competition, burning, screaming...and him, standing there, arms out wide, presenting me with my engagement gift and promising more to come when we marry....he has not gone back on the promise." She said, looked to her sister.

Vanessa recalled that time. “Wait
that was the truth behind the disappearance of all those noble women? I remember Francis said he heard whispers that it had something to do with the King and that he was trying to find out more. However his family immediately sent for him to return to Drake City at the time
Oh god
” Vanessa said as she placed a hand over her chest.

Caemeryn continued, "You want to socialize....with him about...that man, who, if given the chance, would burn the world to the ground if only to please me?" She said, "or worse, have me leave him, here, for more girls, to suffer his experiments...For what? Because you're bored and sick of the smell...?" She said and drank the rest of her wine. "The point of that tale is this, that man, needs handled, carefully, by me and only me, I cannot waste time, going anywhere, with or without him."

Vanessa looked at Caemryn and gave a quick smile. “Okay. Point made, point taken. Gee
I’m sure the Humanists have a field day brooding over Theomus’ abductions. Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were
preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” Vanessa wasn’t referring to the laboratory when she mentioned somewhere out of the way. She knew she was treading on thin ice but when had she even not done so when it concerned Theomus.

Peregrine tried not to grin. Oh how he would kiss the person that got rid of Theomus, if such an unlikely thing were to happen. However as it stood, as insane as Theomus was Caemryn still seemed to hold some capacity of love for him. Peregrine never envied royalty as it was a life of false freedoms. Being shackled in plain sight was not his idea of living. Given Caemryn’s predicament, she needed people who could carry out her will in places where she herself could not go, and when quill and parchment didn’t suffice. Peregrine, Vanessa, and Francis were often her go to people. ”Your Majesty you can always count on us to assist you in any way you deem fit. Travel may not be a luxury afforded to you at present, however I’m sure I speak for Lady Pendragon, Governor Francis Pendragon, and myself when I say that we would gladly carry your will wherever you so desire.”

Vanessa added, “Although Peregrine should never be as comfortable speaking for my husband or I, for that matter, I do agree with him.” She gave a quaint smile at the general. Stood to her feet and pecked him on the cheek. She then sat in the seat next to Caemryn and pulled it closer to her sister’s chair. Vanessa placed an arm around Caemryn’s shoulders to comfort her intoxicated sister. There now, you should get some rest. We’ll babysit Theomus if you’d like to lie down for a bit.”

Peregrine rose from his seat and bowed slightly. “I can escort your majesty to her chambers if need be.”

“Okay. Point made, point taken. Gee
I’m sure the Humanists have a field day brooding over Theomus’ abductions. Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were
preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” Vanessa said and Caemryn shot her a warning look. Most days, Theomus annoyed her, but...she was his and he was hers. She worked too damn hard for it. If she were honest with herself, she would even go as far as to say she cared about him, but since when was she ever honest with herself. ”Your Majesty you can always count on us to assist you in any way you deem fit. Travel may not be a luxury afforded to you at present, however I’m sure I speak for Lady Pendragon, Governor Francis Pendragon, and myself when I say that we would gladly carry your will wherever you so desire.” Caemryn rolled her eyes. Great, now they pitied her. She rose the glass to her lips only to find it empty. “Although Peregrine should never be as comfortable speaking for my husband or I, for that matter, I do agree with him.” Vanessa said and while she was about to call for more wine when Vanessa came over, pulled her over with an arm. There now, you should get some rest. We’ll babysit Theomus if you’d like to lie down for a bit.”
Caemyrn set her jaw. Peregrine rose and bowed. “I can escort your majesty to her chambers if need be.” He said and Caemryn shoved her sister off of her.

"Were you not paying attention!?" She spat. "You can not do a damned thing for Theomus, that's my job, I have to do it I-" She shot to her feet, but held on to the table as the world spun in her vision. She held her head. "Peregrine, make yourself useful." She ordered, and allow him to escort her to her chambers.

Oddly, as she leaned up against Peregrine, she felt warm in a way she hadn't in a long time, if very. She wanted for once, someone to care for her, look after her, bare the burden just a little bit.

"Peregrine..." She said, her voice soft as they entered her chambers. "Do you think I'm beautiful?" She asked, her fingers crawling up his shoulder. She smiled when he answered and posed her with a question of his own. "Because...you're sane...." She said, she grabbed ahold of his face, and pressed her lips firmly against his,

She just wanted to be held, loved even, but not with monstrous gifts, and grotesque offerings, she wanted something normal, even if it was Peregrine, even if she didn't particularly like him nor did she dislike him, or find him all that attractive. She wanted to know what it felt like.

After a moment, she realized that at any moment, that if her husband were to walk in here, and see her now, he would kill them both, unless she lied and said that Peregrine attacked her, made her or something. He would believe anything if she told it to him.

Peregrine, though, he would be killed in the most horrible of ways.

She shoved away from him. "Get out." She said, wiping her mouth, then interlocking her fingers. That was a dangerous mistake. " If my husband sees you, you will burn....Go, Now."she said more calmly now. If she were going to make that mistake, she would do it with someone that was actually useful.

Caemryn shoved her sister off of her. To which Vanessa was taken aback.

Peregrine took her hand gently and helped her maintain her balance. He was unused to the queen calling him by his first name. Unlike Vanessa, Caemryn and Theomus almost always referred to him by last name. It may have been because she was tipsy and lacking the energy for being overly formal thus Peregrine dismissed the thought process.

Vanessa folded her arms in minor frustration at her sister’s irritable disposition. She watched Peregrine gently escort Caemryn out of the room and down the hall. Having a second thought on her guarding the laboratory door in the event that Theomus emerged Vanessa cringed. ”I may need some help here
Theo relates to Francis much better than me.” Vanessa called for a messenger. ”Send word for my husband Governor Francis at once. Tell him his wife needs him urgently at the palace. Don’t dawdle.” she warned. Taking another drink, she sat back down and waited for Francis’ arrival.

Meanwhile in the hall, Peregrine assisted the queen to her chambers. A few court servants bowed humbly as the two passed them by. They scurried off out of sight once passed by the queen and general. "Peregrine..." Caemryn said, her voice soft as they entered her chambers. "Do you think I'm beautiful?" She asked, her fingers crawling up his shoulder.

Peregrine was a little slower than usual to register what was happening. ‘Is she coming on to me?’ he thought to himself. He gathered himself as best he could to respond. His usual placid demeanor was difficult to muster in this moment for some reason. His heart was pushing to answer honestly rather than strategically. He looked into Caemryn’s eyes and replied softly, ”Your majesty, you are a goddess amongst mortals. If the most vibrant of paintings were to attempt to portrait your beauty they would all surely fall short. I am fortunate to behold your image daily. But why ask such a thing of one such as I?”

She smiled when he answered and posed her with a question of his own. "Because...you're sane...." She said, she grabbed ahold of his face, and pressed her lips firmly against his. Peregrine was internally shocked but only for a mere moment. His heart seized the opportunity and he acted on raw emotion. Peregrine returned the intoxicated queen’s kiss with his own sudden passionate kiss. For a couple of split seconds he let his guard down and closed his eyes. This was the first romantic moment he’d had since his wife was alive.

Caemryn shoved away from him. "Get out." She said, wiping her mouth, then interlocking her fingers. They both realized they had made a dangerous mistake. " If my husband sees you, you will burn....Go, Now." she said more calmly now.

Peregrine stepped back reluctantly. It was as if a dream were abruptly ended. He placed his hand gently over his lips in an unconscious attempt to savor the feeling. Gathering his usual placid disposition he let out a heavy sigh, “Your majesty. I bid thee good day.” He bowed and turned to head down the hall. As he rounded the corner he leaned against the wall breathing heavily. ”My god man, what did you just do?!” he said to himself quietly yet frantically. He tried to steady his swiftly beating heart but it was not as easy as he had hoped. ”One little slip like that could cause your head to roll and your bowels to be removed and shown to you before execution. You have to be careful. You must live to avenge your son.” he said to himself in an attempt to pep talk himself. After gathering himself he proceeded towards his chambers.

An hour later, Francis had arrived at the palace. He was greeted cheerfully by everyone he encountered. He was well liked by the subjects of the kingdom. Most subjects viewed Francis and Caemryn as the ‘normal’ ones of the royal family. A few servants gladly showed him the way to Lady Vanessa. As he entered the room he held a little grin on his face. (OOC: Francis speaks in a French accent. I attribute it to some form of olden Drake City Dialect his family speaks in. He will often mispronounce “th” sounds with “Z” sounds. For ex. I don’t think I’m going to type out the mispronunciations so I ask you imagine a frenchaccent when reading his lines.) ”My love, you requested my presence?” he said with a bow.

Vanessa stood to her feet and hugged Francis. ”I’m so glad you’re here! Caemryn needs to rest and I can’t possibly look after Theomus alone lest I burn him with a fireball. He responds well to you.”

Francis’ smile faded slightly. ”Tis not my favorite pastime, but for you anything.” He replied, he followed by giving Vanessa a kiss on the cheek.

Vanessa replied, ”Also I have more bad news.” Francis braced himself. Vanessa continued. “Caemryn decided that Valyria would have no official representation at the Khalidor trade summit. We won’t be going
”

Francis shrugged and smiled casually. “Worry not my love. I have already made a large sum of money trading a few important goods to Khalidor. Besides we will get the opportunity to travel soon. If your sister cannot join us then you and I will adventure and do business abroad alone. What do you say to a trip soon? Will you go on my adventure?”

Vanessa smile brightly and in a sigh of a manner she replied, “Glady
”

For a moment, a brief moment, she thought he didn't believe her as he stared at her for the longest moment. Finally, he stepped up to her pulled her into him and held her. If she were honest with herself, it felt nice, to have him hold her like a normal sane man would hold his wife."I will" He told her and broke from her, causing her to stumbled gracelessly backward, she found her footing though, straightened herself and cleared her tears. She began searching for something to wear. There would be an execution this night. Image

It didn't take long for her husband to find the fool boy and had guards come to collect her.
"Your Grace, The King has requested your present in the throne room."

"'Of course he has." She said as she pulled a shaw over her shoulders. "My sister, her husband and Lord Peregrine, collect them as well. I want them all to see this." She said and of the two guards that had come for her ran off to get her sister and her husband.

Caemryn walked with the single guard and made her way to the throne room, passing the boy as she entered and took a seat at her throne beside her husband's.
Image
"Y-Your Grace....I-I..."
Caemryn rose her hand silencing the boy. "You've dishonored me....Do you think anyone here wants to hear you speak." She said and the defeated look in his eyes were not lost on her, but it didn't effect her. She told him, he wanted to continue to touch her, to linger, when she warned him to leave, so this was his own doing.

She turned her head. "My King, my Love, please" She said softly. "Return to me my honor...." She said.

"Your Grace, Please, Mercy!" He begged but Caemyrn would not hear any of it. Instead, she looked to Peregrine, warning in her eyes. This could be him if they aren't careful.

(Note: Francis speaks in a French accent. I didn’t feel like typing his dialogue in a French accent so I ask if you all would imagine the accent as you read his dialogue. I attribute the accent to some olden dialect of Drake City common tongue. He is originally from Drake City.)

Night had come, Francis and Vanessa were about to leave the palace after an uneventful afternoon of keeping tabs on King Theomus. Really Francis did the interacting with Theomus as the King and Vanessa seldom got on well with one another. If anyone was to look stand about Theomus’ Laboratory door, Theomus didn’t mind Francis so much. Theo had finished his experimenting for the night so Francis and Vanessa had bid him goodnight and were headed home. Just as their carriage was ready to pull off from the palace a guard came rushing up screaming for the carriage to be halted.

“DRIVER PLEASE STOP THE CARRIAGE, BY ORDER OF THE QUEEN. The carriage came to an abrupt stop, which made Vanessa look to Francis in serious annoyance.

Francis sighed heavily. He looked to Vanessa pleadingly. He knew his wife was not easy to quell when angered. Accordingly, Vanessa remained silent and allowed Francis to deal with the situation. Francis drew back the curtain of the carriage window and looked at the messenger who’d trotted up to the window out of breath. “Whatever may be the issue? Does my dear sister in law require something from my wife and I? If it is not urgent we would like to return home. And of course, always give her our best regards.” Francis said to the messenger with a smile.

The messenger replied in huffs and puffs having still not quite caught his breath. ”Your grace Governor Francis and Lady Pendragon, I regret having to present you with an imposition; however his Majesty the King has issued an order for an execution tonight. Her Majesty the Queen has requested your grace’s presence. Would your grace please be so kind as to return to the palace?”

Vanessa, with a shocked expression, turned to Francis and gasped, “An EXECUTION?! What on earth happened?” She wondered what would have set Theomus off to hold a public execution. He killed people daily, yes. However those deaths were the result of experimentation in his lab. There were not made tobe public spectacles. Before Francis could reply Vanessa did. ”Right away.” She then called out to the driver. ”Driver, about face. We’re heading back inside. I shan’t miss this.”

Francis shook his head slightly saddened by the news of an execution. They were escorted down the halls and towards the throne room. Peregrine also had just arrived at the doors to the throne room. Francis was glad to see the general. He immediately greeted him and inquired as to what was going on. “General Le Buque what has happened? Who is to be executed and heavens why?”

Peregrine stood with a slightly uneasy look upon his face. He replied stoically, “A young, and certainly foolish, man has been accused of dishonoring the Queen. The King has ordered his death.”

Francis shook his head in pity. ”What an unfortunate happening. Is the Queen alright?” Francis asked.

Peregrine replied looking straight ahead. ”Unfortunately I cannot confirm her emotional state right now. I can only imagine that she must be quite upset in more than one way.” Peregrine chose his words carefully. He made his expressions strategically. He knew exactly what this situation was about. Only a few hours earlier it was him who was embracing the Queen. This young man was filler, cannon fodder, attractive and expendable. Caemyrn used him to pick up what she started with Peregrine. This was consensual, and the queen no doubt wanted a sexual encounter just as much as that young man was willing to provide it. However apparently the fool was not careful and the King found out. Peregrine somewhat felt responsible for what was about to happen.

Vanessa commented, ”I suppose that you will be performing the execution?”

Peregrine slowly turned his head and replied grimly, ”No. I will not. His Majesty would like to restore his wife’s honor personally.”

Vanessa listened and having grown tired of standing outside of the throne room doors she decided to enter. With the swing of her hand in the air, the heavy double doors swung open magically. ”Let’s not dawdle.” She said shortly and she began to swiftly enter the room taking Francis by the hand guiding him forward. Inside Caemyrn and Theomus sat on their thrones.

"Y-Your Grace....I-I..." The young man begged. Francis felt sorry for him. He honestly wished this wasn’t happening, at least not in front of him. He definitely didn’t want to question the integrity of his sister in law but he also wasn’t a fan of executions.

"My King, my Love, please softly. "Return to me my honor...." She said.

"Your Grace, Please, Mercy!" He begged but Caemyrn would not hear any of it. Instead, she looked to Peregrine, warning in her eyes. This could be him if they aren't careful.

Peregrine stared back at Caemyrn trying to decide if fooling around with Caemyrn was worth the risk. If he were ever to get caught, god forbid, there would be no way he’d allow Theomus to execute him without a serious fight. Peregrine would die trying to survive. Unlike Peregrine however, this young man lacked the skill and strength to accomplish such a feat to survive a fight for his life. He was doomed to death. It was clear that Caemyrn would not look out for him or anyone for that matter. She was a survivor plan and simple. Fortunately for Peregrine, so was he.

Peregrine looked toward Theomus, whose eyes seemed fixed on the young man awaiting execution. His eyes then trailed over towards Vanessa. Remembering what she had said earlier, ” Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were
preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” he placed more thought on Vanessa’s words. Honestly Theomus could easily be looked upon as a hindrance to his own kingdom’s longevity. He was most always preoccupied with his personal pursuits leaving Caemyrn to handle most all of the Kingdoms affairs. However usurping the throne was nowhere near any desire of Peregrine’s.

Vanessa looked upon the young man, ”It’s a pity you want him dead. He’s quite handsome. How about an eye for an eye? You could give the boy to Francis and I. He violated you so he could spend the rest of his existence being passed around and violated. Wouldn’t that be fitting?” She said to her sister rather casually.

Francis replied, ”My dear, Caemyrn is a queen and thus such a crime committed against her is only punishable by death usually.” He stepped forward and addressed the King and Queen. ”Your Majesties, I would be honored to handle this task for you. I could pluck out his heart and crush it. We can all go about our way. Her Majesty would have swift restoration of her honor.” Francis wanted to end this fiasco swiftly. He knew that death by Theomus’ hand would be horrid, torturous and long lasting.

Caemryn watched as her brother by law and sister entered the hall. Peregrine looking back at her, seeing her words in her eyes.
”It’s a pity you want him dead. He’s quite handsome. How about an eye for an eye? You could give the boy to Francis and I. Why her sister was so insipid she would never know.

”My dear, Caemyrn is a queen and thus such a crime committed against her is only punishable by death usually.” Her husband replied and Caemryn was surprised by his response. Oh what it must be like to have a sane husband. ”Your Majesties, I would be honored to handle this task for you. I could pluck out his heart and crush it. We can all go about our way. Her Majesty would have swift restoration of her honor.”

"No." Caemryn said. "I am my husbands, he dishonored not only me, but trespassed against him as well, My husband will do it as is his right." She said and it was then that yet another herald made an appearance.

"What is it now?" Caemryn asked with clear annoyance. "Forgive me your grace, but there is a man here to see you. He addressed you by name."The herald looked afraid. He knew what was happening here and didn't want to be apart of it.

"Well, who is it?"

"Haviier Kabuk."

Caemryn took a breath. "Send him. Let him see Valryian Justice." She said before allowing her husband to let the boy burn.

Haviir waited for sometime before the herald returned. The guards were looking at his party with such curiosity. It was clear that they had not been far outside of their country, for Volantian dress was incredibly similar to that of Ashkaran or even Avalon of old. Still he allowed them to look over his guards. When the herald returned he guided Haviir up to the queen. He wished she was closer to the entrance, for he was still tired from the long ride. As the herald opened the doors to the queen, Haviir entered.

"Ah Queen Caemryn, it's good to see you again and in such good health too. I haven't seen you since your father's funeral, bless his soul. Alas I have not come here to indulge in past memories, but to speak on behalf of business." He said, pulling up a seat to rest his weary legs. "I find time to be invaluable so I'll be blunt. I would you to consider giving me a loan. One million ducats would suffice. As for payment, I think you'd like what I have to offer." Haviir said. It was a ludicrous amount of money for the first loan, especially given his country's financial problems, but his payment on that loan would be too lucrative to pss up.

Caemryn decided to receive the Volanti in the Hall of the small council while her husband did his worst. She was seated at the head of the long table as he entered. His wariness was not lost on her, she just simply didn't care. It was late hour as it was. He should have waited til morning.

Caemryn grabbed the cup of wine that sat in front of her, knowing she'll need it.

"the payment is irrelevant at the moment, Haviir, what is so much money for?" She said, not one to be played for a fool. "What are re you planning because I have a sneaking suspicious that it'll be less the favorable for Valyria."

"What are re you planning because I have a sneaking suspicious that it'll be less the favorable for Valyria." Haviir smirked. Of course she skipped straight to the point.

"The Markus brothers are currently two oceans from their kingdom at Khalidor's summit. My spies had caught word of intentions to invade my country as a means to make up for our defaulted debt. So I've amassed the largest army Volanti had ever seen with the means of taking Drake City." He pulled out a map, placing it on the table.

"The money is meant to pay for the intial front of the invasion. My armies will march from the west to take Ithaca and siege Drake city, all the while my navy blockades their ports. I can muster fifteen legions to send in the first wave of the invasion, then another five for reinforcements. I request that you send your forces to put pressure on Drake's eastern borders. I'll send you a Janissary corp to assist your forces in taking Bellona's Spear." He took out a stick of charcoal and cut Drake in half.

"The new border will be split. Drake City and everything to its west goes to Volanti. In exchange for future financial backings and assistance in the war, the rest goes to Valyria. I predict that with our combined strength and their lack of leadership, the war should be over by the time Moloch comes back." His gaze met hers with confident eyes. The numbers weren't exaggerated. His armies were vast, but they were also poorly equipped and poorly trained for pitched battles. If the invasion were to go off without a hitch, he would need her full support.

Caemryn frowned. He has defaulted debt from another country, and some how he actually had the hubris to ask for a loan? She looked at him with amusement in her eyes as he pulled out a map and unfurled it on her table.

I predict that with our combined strength and their lack of leadership, the war should be over by the time Moloch comes back."

Caemyrn cocked her head. "So what you want, it not only money, but an army equipped with Valyrian steel?" She asked. "I imagine with those numbers an invasion would do fine....it's not the men on the ground, it's the steel in their hands." She said. Valyrian steel, able to cut through other weapons like butter.
Image
"How about adding to that, Anansai silk." came a woman voice from behind her. Caemryn shot from her chair and turned, a woman with long white hair, pink eyes, and a dangerous smile, shrouded in white cloth stood before her now. "What sorcery is this? Who are you and how did you get in here?" Caemyrn said, there were no doors in this room besides the one she'd entered in with, with Haviir. "Did you bring her?" She asked him with a hiss.

"No, He didn't bring me, in fact, I'm sure I gave him just as much as a start as you," the woman said, her voice smooth as silk. She moved around to Caemryn and took a seat at her right.

"Who are you?" Caemryn hissed. "What are you?"

"Sophinia." She said. "Queen of the UnSeelie Fae, and let us just say, I have an interest in the welfare of your country." She said, and with a wave of her hand, Caemyrn's seat, slid out. "Sit, let us all speak." She said, and Caemyrn took a breath but sat.

"What do you want."

"Many things, but the ones that concern you, and him are simple." She said and Caemyrn swallowed. "And they are?"

"I want you, to kill Tenanye Ananse." She said, and then looked to Haviir, "and you can have your invasion of the Drake." She said.

"Kill...How....She is Queen of he---

"No!" Sophinia lost all of her charm, as she shouted, her voice echoing not only in the room, but in their heads as well, enough to make them dizzy.
Image

She cleared her throat and smiled. " No, I am Queen, she is a whelp, who does not have the right to be called Empress...." She said. "An Insect, that can be crushed beneath my foot." She said, and sat down. "I will provide you with all you need to kill her and once that is finished, you will have all the distraction you need to mount your invasion." She said, with eyes toward Haviir.

"I never said, I would help."

"No, not with words..."

"What do I get in return?" Caemyrn asked.

"You...You're heart's desire, I'll heal your husbands broken mind...."

Caemyrn looked at her in shock. "You can do that?"
Image

"I am Fae, I can do many things." She said and Caemryn looked away. It was the one thing she wanted taht she with all of her magic and charm could not achieve. She would know what it was like to have a sane husband, she wouldn't have to do all of this herself. She could feel the love she knew he had for her.

"All you have to do is say yes" Sophinia said and Caemryn looked at Haviir. "You'll have your coin, and the soliders, all armed with Valryian Steel" She said and Sophinia smiled.

"And Tenanye Ananse will die." She said and she knew just the person to send.

Haviir pursed his lips as Caemryn made a demeaning expression. Surely she knew that after Volanti was conquered, Drake would be powerful enough to expand into her kingdom? Then that woman entered the room, with a voice as sweet as the dew around an oasis. He watched as she explained herself. He had only really heard of fae in story tales, but she had kind of spell in her voice, perhaps a enchantment, that was convincing the queen to join him. Just to assassinate a woman?

"You'll have your coin, and the soliders, all armed with Valryian Steel"

Haviir smiled in approval to her answer. "Good. I will send my riders to notify my forces. I'm glad that you have agreed. The steel can wait until we take Ithica, my Janissary corps have enough dragon armor to defend itself. The'll prepare for the blockade and the invasion immediately. I'd say that a week after the message arrives they'll be able to get to Ithica. After Drake has mobilized the west, sent some ships with the steel to my western flank, to the blockade. I'm positive that we can play cat and mouse with them once they come out of their little den." He told her confidently. He couldn't wait for the time to equip each one of his conscripts with silk and steel. Those could be for the Janissaries.

Francis’ attempt at allowing the young man to die a quick death failed with the sounding of Caemryn’s response.

"No." Caemryn said. "I am my husbands, he dishonored not only me, but trespassed against him as well, My husband will do it as is his right." She said.

Francis bowed politely to his sister in law and replied, “I understand your Grace.”

Vanessa continued to eye the young man as she listened. ”Hmph, still such a pity and a waste of a young man.” She said casually. Then another herald made an appearance.

"What is it now?" Caemryn asked with clear annoyance. "Forgive me your grace, but there is a man here to see you. He addressed you by name." The herald looked afraid. He knew what was happening here and didn't want to be a part of it.

Peregrine couldn’t help but notice the herald’s fear and he didn’t blame the man. He himself could honestly admit that he felt frightened at the thought of having his life ended by the likes of Theomus. He wasn’t really worried about dying so much as by who’s hand, the dishonor left on his name. That’s what plagued him more.

"Well, who is it?" Caemryn fussed in reply to the herald. Vanessa chuckled a bit. To Vanessa, her sister’s impatience was oftentimes amusing when not being directed at her.

"Haviier Kabuk." the herald replied. Francis and Peregrine both looked to each other in serious intrigue at the announcement of this guest. They had both heard of this leader. They locked eyes both wondering what would bring him here of all places, and at such a time.

Caemryn took a breath. "Send him. Let him see Valryian Justice." She said before allowing her husband to let the boy burn. Francis closed his eyes as the young man’s body was ignited. Vanessa always loved the sight of flames dancing. She gazed on with a smug and satisfied smile. Vanessa didn’t seem to care much about the announced visitor, where he was from or what he wanted. She and Theomus, for once, seemed to be enjoying the same activity, watching flames destroy.

At Caemryn’s decision the Volanti were received in the Hall of the small council. All the while Theomus did his worst. Vanessa became quickly disenchanted by the execution as the room began smell of burning flesh and the scene grew less appealing to her. Vanessa had seen enough and followed Francis and Peregrine as they followed the Queen. Caemryn was seated at the head of the long table as Haviier entered. Vanessa, Francis sat down on either side of Caemeryn, while Peregrine stood keeping close watch of the situation. He didn’t trust their new guest, not that the man was untrustworthy but Peregrine needed to protect the Queen.

“Ah Queen Caemryn, it's good to see you again and in such good health too. I haven't seen you since your father's funeral, bless his soul. Alas I have not come here to indulge in past memories, but to speak on behalf of business." He said as he took a seat, and Caemryn gave him an impatient sideways glance. "Yes, yes, blessed, get on with it..."

Francis refrained from speaking. He simply perpetuated a pleasant smile as he listened intently. He wanted to know what this man wanted just as much as Caemryn did. However, unlike the Queen or his wife Vanessa, Francis had far more patience and care to keep up a false sense of pleasantness. He firmly believes in killing with kindness.

"I find time to be invaluable so I'll be blunt. I would you to consider giving me a loan. One million ducats would suffice. As for payment, I think you'd like what I have to offer." Haviier continued.

Caemryn grabbed the cup of wine that sat in front of her, knowing she'll need it.

Francis finally spoke, When money was involved Francis was the perfect person to have around. He was practically one of the kingdom’s best accountants. ”That is a very hefty sum of money, good sir.” Francis added.

"The payment is irrelevant at the moment, Haviir, what is so much money for?" Caemryn said quickly, not one to be played for a fool. "What are you planning because I have a sneaking suspicious that it'll be less the favorable for Valyria."

Vanessa joked, “Oh and please tell me we are charging interest for every moment he’s bored us with this nonsense.”

Haviir skipped straight to the point. ”The Markus brothers are currently two oceans from their kingdom at Khalidor's summit. My spies had caught word of intentions to invade my country as a means to make up for our defaulted debt. So I've amassed the largest army Volanti had ever seen with the means of taking Drake City.”

At the mention of taking over Drake City Francis grew very concerned. Actually he was concerned at the mention of Moloch Markus, his close friend and former king. Vanessa looked over to Francis as discreetly as she could knowing that Francis would want to protect Moloch. Francis began to pick a few grapes from the platter sitting on the table as he listened.

Haviir contined, "The money is meant to pay for the initial front of the invasion. My armies will march from the west to take Ithaca and siege Drake city, all the while my navy blockades their ports. I can muster fifteen legions to send in the first wave of the invasion, then another five for reinforcements. I request that you send your forces to put pressure on Drake's eastern borders. I predict that with our combined strength and their lack of leadership, the war should be over by the time Moloch comes back."

Peregrine gave a tired expression after hearing the plan. He commented, ”Pardon my intrusion. However, what glory or honor do you gain by taking Drake while it’s king is gone? It’s a cowards victory. You’ll gain no respect from the remnants of Drake’s people or from other nations should you conquer in a coward’s manner.”

"How about adding to that, Anansai silk." came a woman’s voice from behind. Caemryn shot from her chair and turned, a woman with long white hair, pink eyes, and a dangerous smile, shrouded in white cloth stood before her now. Peregrine immediately unsheathe his sword. Something was familiar about this woman. Not that Peregrine had met her before, but that she was not human, she was unearthly like someone else he’d met before. She mentioned Anansai, Peregrine remembered the Blue Faery. This woman was a Faery like the Blue Faery he’d met the night his son died. His eyes narrowed angrily on the woman.

"What sorcery is this? Who are you and how did you get in here?" Caemyrn said, there were no doors in this room besides the one they'd entered in with, with Haviir. "Did you bring her?" She asked him with a hiss. Vanessa raised a hand and ignited a fireball. She stood waiting for an excuse to hurl it.

"No, He didn't bring me, in fact, I'm sure I gave him just as much as a start as you said, her voice smooth as silk. She moved around to Caemryn and took a seat at her right, moving Francis aside. He assisted her in pushing in her chair. Francis was always the gentleman.

Vanessa grew a little nervous seeing Caemryn a bit uneasy. Caemryn usually kept her composure but it was minimally shaken this time. Vanessa and Francis sat down as well. Peregrine still stood on guard.

"What do you want."

"Many things, but the ones that concern you, and him are simple." She said and Caemyrn swallowed. "And they are?"

"I want you, to kill Tenanye Ananse." She said, and then looked to Haviir, "and you can have your invasion of the Drake." She said.

"Kill...How....She is Queen of he--- Caemryn began to reply.

"No!" Sophinia lost all of her charm, as she shouted, her voice echoing not only in the room, but in their heads as well, enough to make them dizzy. She cleared her throat and smiled. "No, I am Queen, she is a whelp, who does not have the right to be called Empress...." She said. ]b]"An Insect, that can be crushed beneath my foot sat down. "I never said, I would help."

"No, not with words..."

"What do I get in return?" Caemyrn asked.

"You...You're heart's desire, I'll heal your husbands broken mind...."

Vanessa huffed in amusement. ”So this Tenanye woman dies so that Theomus can be sane? Golly does she really get the short end of the stick here.”

Caemyrn looked at Sophinia in shock. "You can do that?"

Francis was grateful that this would serve as a distraction to invading Drake. It gave him a tiny bit of time to warn Moloch somehow.

"I am Fae, I can do many things." She said and Caemryn looked away.

"All you have to do is say yes" Sophinia said and Caemryn looked at Haviir. "You'll have your coin, and the soliders, all armed with Valryian Steel" She said and Sophinia smiled. Francis cringed. He was hoping that Caemryn would send the man away as it seemed she was disinterested in making a deal with him. But that was not to be the case.

"And Tenanye Ananse will die." She said.

”Well this will be fascinating.” Vanessa comented.

Francis knew he needed to send warning to Moloch as soon as possible. However the Drake king was far too distant to reach swiftly by any known conventional means. He pondered for a moment. He had an idea finally, one he was not proud of but it was his only hope, The Blue Faery. Francis knew a bit about Wishing Star Faery lore. He was always fascinated with stories of the faeries as a child. He knew enough to know that the Blue Faery was capable of appearing anywhere when summoned. Francis needed to use the Blue Faery as his messenger. Now all he needed was a way to call upon him.

Francis stood gracefully from his seat and took his wife’s hand, gently assisting her to her feet. “Well now that our business has concluded, My wife and I shall return home for the evening as it is very late. We bid you all a good evening.” He and Vanessa left the small council room and summoned for their carriage to be made ready for departure.

As the two walked toward the palace gates Vanessa inquired. “Francis what are you planning love?” She knew better than anyone that her husband would die to protect his best friend Moloch. Francis had not yet answered before Vanessa continued, “If you’re considering sending word to Moloch about the plans discussed here, I’m sure I needn’t remind you that said course of action would be considered treason.” she made sure to speak quietly enough for only the two of them to hear.

Image

Francis replied calmly while looking ahead. ”And if I am?” He didn’t what his wife caught up in his web of possibly death warrant signing affairs. If he was to warn Moloch it meant betraying his In-laws.

Image

Vanessa replied casually, ”Well I guess that makes us both guilty of committing treason now doesn’t it. You didn’t think for a second that I wouldn’t follow your course of action? Darling where you go I go. If you decided to embark the road to hell, well, to hell and back if necessary.” She said with a mischievous smile.

Francis looked relieved, he kissed Vanessa sweetly. ”Thank you my love.” he whispered. The carriage was prepped and the two set off for their home in Southern Valyria. Once home Francis explained his plan. ”Moloch is indeed too far for us to send word to him by letter or any conventional messenger thus I figured I’d have to use more imagination when pondering a method. Then it occurred to me to call upon the Blue Faery. When Sophinia arrived that’s when it occurred to me. We can have the Blue Faery send warning to Moloch in Khalidor. Wishing Star Faeries can travel the globe faster than most anyone, or so I’ve read.”

Vanessa replied, “Brilliant. I’ve always wanted to meet him. I’ve heard that he’s handsome. Now how do we gain an audience with the Blue Faery, doesn’t he appear to those of pure intentions and hearts? Darling making a wish that is ultimately an act of treason isn’t exactly my definition of a pure hearted wish.”

Francis smiled playfully and responded, “However, a desire to save a friend and his nation is a pure wish.” Wasting no time he exited their large home and wandered into the nearby woods. Francis wanted no witnesses, other than Vanessa. Francis, holding a lantern in his hand, looked up to the starry night’s sky and called out ”Luin Elen, I wish upon the Blue Star! I need your assistance.”

As the two of them stood waiting Vanessa folded her arms in impatience. ”I feel really bright standing in the middle of the woods at night shouting at the stars.” Francis simply embraced Vanessa and kissed her upon the lips. She began to feel better as she thought of their current situation as if they were on a secret date.

Father Superior was busy healing those that were injured in Khalidor. He suddenly heard that he was summoned. The Blue Star in the sky shined brightly he was needed elsewhere however there were still many injured here that needed tending to. Father Superior flew about the sized people to find Niven. He and Zexen were sitting with a recovering Valen in the infirmary. I must go as I have been summoned. I will be back shortly. There are still many that need help here so I will call upon the Star Faeries to descend down from the skies of Anansai and assist the recovery efforts here. Remember, keep the book of Cosmos safe.

Father Superior pointed his wand towards the open window and a shining blast of blue light shot out into the night’s sky and erupted like fireworks. Moments later many colored orbs of light descended from the sky. The many wishing star faeries flew down to Khalidor, it looked as if the stars themselves were fluttering down to earth. About twenty-five star faeries fluttered about gathering around Father Superior. Faeries the people of Khalidor have suffered a great tragedy. There are many injurned and in need of healing. Tend to them. Those that are suffering from magic loss mainly need time to recover, focus you attention on tending to those with physical injuries. Use faery dust sparingly as humans should only have minimal contact with it. Also avoid iron as you know the consequences. If anyone gives you trouble about your unannounced precense inform them that you are here upon request of the Blue Faery Arch Bishop in Anansai. I will return as soon as I can.” with that, the Blue Faery flew off towards the night sky bound for Valyria.

Moments later his blue light could be seen through the trees of the woods Francis and Vanessa waited in. Francis took notice and smiled as if he were a young child upon the sight of the pixie sided faery. The Blue Faery flew close ”Greetings you who have called out to the Blue Star, how my I help you?”

Francis replied after bowing, ”I wish to warn my friend of impending danger. It is out of concern for his life and my former nation that I called you.”

”Please deliver this message to King Moloch Markus of Drake City. He is currently located in Khalidor.” Francis said as he held a neatly written and bound letter in his hand.

”I’m not a courier Lord Francis. Please send your letters the conventional way as I have pressing matters to attend to. Not to mention that there are limits as to how involved I am allowed to be with human realm skirmishes.” Blue replied.

Francis replied, ”I figured you’d say something like that. So I have something else that might persuade you that this matter is as much of a concern to you as it is to us.”

”I’m listening.” Father Superior replied as he clasped his hands together.

Francis continued, ”Sophinia of Anansai has requested that our Queen kill Empress Tenanye in return for Anansai Silk and King Theomus’ returned sanity. Caemryn will aid in Haviir Kabuk’s invasion of Drake City. Caemryn has agreed to murder your Empress and Sophinia has promised to give her the means to do so. Anansai is just as much in danger as Drake City is I’d imagine.”

Vanessa interrupted, ”Now do we have your help or not? This matter is beyond your pious principles.”

Father Superior nodded reluctantly in agreement. ”Crudely stated but I agree. You will have my aid. I will see to it that Moloch is warned. Please take great care when dealing with Sophinia. I cannot stress how dangerous she is. Trust that her intentions are in no way good for anyone but herself. I must go, I see time is of the essence. Farewell.” Father Superior took the note after minimizing it down to size and flew toward the sky.

The Blue Faery had made it back to Khalidor as swiftly as he could. He wanted more than anything to warn Empress Tenanye however he had no knowledge of where she was yet alone if she was injured at all due to the Mana bomb. He decided he would have to locate her after speaking with King Moloch. In pixie size among full sized humans, Father Superior flew about in search of the Drake king. As he passed by people they looked on in awe and some thought they were imagining things. One man shouted the he must have been still feeling the effects of the bomb, to which Father Superior found slightly amusing.

Having little luck locating Moloch, Father Superior decided to use a locator spell. He could tell that the atmosphere was still slightly effected by the mana-bomb. Spells would work but with a minor static-like interference. A floating trail of faery dust floated about the air leading Father Superior to the room Moloch was currently. There was a guard standing by as expected. As the blue glow of the faery bishop approached, the guard was alerted and stood in front of the door.

“What business do you have here faery? I cannot permit you to enter.” The tall and broad warrior stated as he towered above the floating pixie sized Blue Faery.

Blue smiled and then calmly replied, “I am the Blue Faery, Arch Bishop of Anansai. I have come with a very important message for King Moloch of Drake City. It is of the utmost urgency that I speak with him.” Father Superior could have simply put the guard to sleep using a sleeping spell but that would not have been very diplomatic. Better to be safe than sorry, he thought.

The guard, took a moment to size the pixie up and consider the request. Ultimately he decided to ask the king. He turned around and entered room, closing the door behind him. ”Sire, The Blue Faery, Arch Bishop of Anansai is here. He says that he must speak with your highness. He claims it is a matter of great importance. Shall I grant him passage my lord?” The gurned kneeled down on one knee as he spoke to his king.

After a few moments the Guard returned from the room and opened the door for the Blue Faery to enter. Father Superior thanked the guard for considering his request and flew into the room. There sat King Moloch with the old Mage Cyrus, Father Superior had recognized Cyrus from the past. The two had encountered one another however neither of them alluded to this happening other than a subtle knowing glance exchanged between the two. Father Superior bowed to Moloch.

”Your Majesty, King Moloch, I have come with a matter most pressing and urgent. I was asked to deliver a letter for you. It hails from Sir Francis Pendragon and Lady Vanessa of Valyria. He has taken drastic measures to ensure this reaches your attention as swiftly as possible. Drake City is in grave danger. The details are provided in this letter written by Sir Francis.” Father Superior pointed his wand forward delicately and with a faint blue flash the letter appeared before the Drake King. It floated in the air, returned to normal size.

{The letter read as follows:}

”Beloved Friend, Moloch,

I am writing you this letter in great haste as it is regarding a matter of the utmost urgency. I have received confirmation that Haviir Kabuk of the Volantian Confederacy is conspiring with the queen of Valyria to wage war on Drake City in your absence. I have included a list of task coordinates on the back of this letter. My wife and I wanted to warn you for your sake and that of your nation. A great fae sorceress has also offered assistance with the matter. Our queen has been tempted by the fae witch to assist with this invasion as well as assassinate the Empress of Anansai.

I have asked the Blue Faery to deliver this message to you since I cannot be at your side. Vanessa and I are in your corner. I will do what I can to assist you. However I must tread carefully, my wife and I have technically committed treason in forewarning you. You, my dearest friend, and Drake, my home, are always in my heart. Fare thee well Moloch, and please return home as soon as possible. Your people need their King.

Sincerely Your Friend,
Governor Francis Pendragon"

Father Superior floated in the air, his dragonfly like wings beating against the air, as Moloch read the letter. He hoped that Empress Tenanye was alright.
