Sitting in the highback chair beside her husband's throne. Queen Caemryn held the paper in her hand. "What is this?" She asked the man that stood before her. "An Invitation, Milady...A summit in Khalidor, they hav-"
Caemryn waved her hand. " I can read." She huffed impatiently, as she read over the paper. A trade summit. What in seven hells did Khalidor think they would accomplish with this? Vaylria didn't need anything from them, they were protected by two bodies of water, they had all the steel they needed as well the the man power.
Image

"We will not be attending." She said and tore the paper in half and then those halves in half. The herald swallowed. "Should we not present this to the King...Milady?"

"Is he here?" She asked, waving to the empty throne. "No, he is not, he is off, with his quandaries and curiosities....I am Queen Regent, and I say, that we are not going." She said and tossed the papers at the herald.

"Yes, Milady, Forgive me, Milady." He said, and Caemryn arched an eyebrow and he scurried off at the sight.

"That's enough for today." She said and her Kingsguard guided all the rest of the subjects out of the throne room.

Caemryn took a breath. She liked the power, she did, but she hated doing this alone. When she was married to the King, she thought things would be good, her family was always rich, she never wanted for anything, except attention. Her father spent his time making money and none with her, so when she was married to Theomus, she thought she would get that...but no. He was mad, always had been and always will be. He loved her, she figured but he didn't pay attention, he couldn't. She had to do nearly everything herself, while he presented her with burned bodies of his experiments.

She made her way to the his laboratory. where he spent most of his time with whatever oddity he'd found himself with.

She knocked on the door.

"Theomus?" She called through the door, carefully. She could only imagine what was going on behind that door, so she steadied her stomach for whatever it might bring. She could still smell the last gift in her nose.

Peregrine was on his way, in the central Palace of Valriya, to meet with the queen. He was to give her the annual report on border patrols and the like. Although he much thought that proper protocol would have him report such matters to the king. The king was rather daft and concerned with matters pertaining to more twisted and personal pursuits. Thus the queen was the one to handle much of the business of the kingdom. Peregrine didn’t mind that but it was out of the usual to him so it took some adjusting to. He was relatively new to the kingdom, only undertaking the role of Valriya Military General a few years ago.

A few feet outside of the Queen’s chambers he spotted a herald carrying the torn remains of a letter. Peregrine was curious as to what the letter concerned. Calm yet assertively Peregrine stopped the herald, “Halt, you there. What have you in hand?” With an arched eyebrow and head tilted downward he approached the now nervous herald. Peregrine noticed the man’s anxiety and decided to try not to spook him further. “I wish not to put you in a difficult position. Here take this for your trouble.” He gave the man a few gold pieces.

The herald smiled with a sense of relief and began to speak. “Our majesties have been invited to attend a trade summit hosted by the Republic of Khalidor. However the Queen has decided on not attending my lord.”

An immediate look of concern had shown on Peregrine’s face. He couldn’t fathom why the queen would pass up such a strategic opportunity. This would be a rare chance for them to observe the power holders of core nations in action. Peregrine knew that Vaylria needed not want for anything resource wise. However the intelligence to be gained by being present would be worth the trip. Peregrine asked the herald. “Is her majesty in her chambers at present?”

“N-no Lord Le Buque, I believe she left a few moments ago, in search of his majesty the king. Might I suggest the Laboratory.” The herald responded feeling proud to be assistance. Peregrine had a way of making subordinates feel trusting of him.

“Very good you’ve been very helpful. Oh, one more thing. Would you be so kind as to submit this written report into the royal archive? I must seek out her majesty immediately.” Peregrine requested with a kind smile. He was actually quite annoyed by the queen’s refusal to attend the summit. He would kill for the chance to exact his revenge on Zexen Tiberius Elen if he were to be present.

“Of course Lord Le Buque. Right away.” The herald responded as he was handed the document and scurried off to file it.

Peregrine’s smile faded and he immediately did an about face to head to the Laboratory. He didn’t really want to go there for many strange things took place there that made him rethink his initial decision to take up office in this kingdom. He let out a stress relieving sigh and made is way. Right outside the door to the Laboratory he spotted Queen Caemyrn.

“Your Majesty, good day to you.” Peregrine greeted with a polite bow. As he lifted his torso he locked eyes with her. “I was made aware that there is a trade summit in the Republic of Khalidor that you refused attendance. Your majesty this is a rather excellent opportunity to gather information that we would be wise not to pass up. Might you reconsider?” Peregrine’s tone was rather pleasant and calm. However inside he was eager for her to reconsider.

Fire was so beautiful, so perfect, it was the only thing that was constant, unwavering, loyal and trustworthy. Fire was the only thing he could trust. Well, he could trust Caemryn, his love, his queen, bubt even she was falliable, only in fire was so true of purpose.
Destruction.
His latest toy was demonstrating this perfectly.
He had been experimenting with alternative propellants and the effects they had on body parts and the burns they suffered. Each of the girls limbs had been lathered in a different flammable substance, her right arm in whale fat, her left in ground oil, distilled alcohol had been applied to her left leg and concentrated vegetable oil to her right. The ensuring fire dance was a spectacular conflagration of multicoloured fire of various patterns and speeds. Some of them combusted swiftly and burnt themselves out in a flash of heat, while others continued burning in a soft, low flame that danced and waved gloriously as the girl they walked upon writhed and screamed. He waited until the last flames died out, savouring the reek of burnt flesh and the pitiful whimpers of his toy. He stroke forward from where he stood at a safe distance, watching with glee, she was still alive, impressive, and he eagerly approached the girl.
"Your alive! That's impressive, tell me, which of your limbs is in the most agony?" Theomus asked excitedly, but was only greeted with feeble moans and tears, "Fine then, dont tell me, I will simply have to inspect the damage." He said, taking a pair of surgical tools and examining the closest arm to him, eliciting an initial cry of pain before they returned to the whimpers, his work going uninterrupted. Blood and fluid sprayed across his fine clothes but he didnt care, they were replaceable, in fact, he hardly noticed. The grisly work continuing until a sound unusual to his laboratory pervaded his concentration. His name.
"Theomus?" He heard his love, his wife, Caemryn ask from behind the door to his Laboratory. He was pleased with her not entering uninvited, he hated it when people went looking through his things without his consent, and hated it more when they did not do as they were told.
He left his surgical instruments buried in the unfortunate girls leg and made his way to the door but hesitated before opening it, there was a voice on the other side of the door that was not his wifes.
“I was made aware that there is a trade summit in the Republic of Khalidor that you refused attendance." The voice said, which Theomus immediately recognised as that of his most senior military advisor, Le Buque, "Your majesty this is a rather excellent opportunity to gather information that we would be wise not to pass up. Might you reconsider?”
Theomus didn't like Le Buque, he was too boring, too inquisitive, and asked Theomus far too many questions he didn't find interesting or relevant. However, Caemryn had pleaded the man be left be, that he was "useful".
Theomus opened the door before his wife had time to answer the question, "My wife has already given her answer, Le Buque!" he spat vehemently, glaring at the man and swiftly closing the door to his lab behind him, "Are you questioning the will of me and my Queen? Disobeying an order is tantamount to treason. Treason is punishable by death." He moved behind his wife, his still bloody hands grasping her shoulders protectively, oblivious to the fact he was ruining her dress.
"Are you disobeying me, Le Buque?"

Caemyrn’s heart raced to see what was behind the door. She learned early on never to just walk in. Not only would it make him angry, but she found she didn’t quite have the stomach for his “experiments”. She let him do it, only because it was better that he did that, then bother her. Believe it or not, she used to love him. She remembered when she was first presented to him. 19 years old, bright eyed and bushy tailed, she thought he was handsome. That only lasted a moment, until he started to twitch. Then he spoke, he spoke about fire, and how the skin would brown slowly, then writhe into a thin film, and crumple and peel off. She smiled and nodded, pretended to be interested, if only so he didn’t burn her. He never did. She was fortunate, he was insane, and manic, and violent, but he never once turned it on her. She made sure she was never on his bad side. Regardless of this, she’s yet to bare him a child and honestly, it was hard to even fathom him touching her half of the time. She managed to get drunk enough on her wedding night to legalize the marriage and she wasn’t srue if she could ever get that drunk again.

“Your Majesty, good day to you.” Le Beque spoke, breaking her from her thoughts. She turned to him as he bowed while she folded her arms, cocking her head in mild disinterest. “Le Beque.” She said. “I was made aware that there is a trade summit in the Republic of Khalidor that you refused attendance."
“Indeed, I did, What of it?” She asked with measured impatience. "Your majesty this is a rather excellent opportunity to gather information that we would be wise not to pass up. Might you reconsider?”
Caemryn arched her brow, she opened her mouth to speak, but Theomus opened the door behind her. She could smell the unmistakable smell of burning skin, so she didn’t dare turn around. Instead, she held a proud look on her face. For all his faults, Theomus did just about anything to please her. She wanted to love him for that, but it was too exhausting to even fathom let alone attempt.
"My wife has already given her answer, Le Buque!" He spat, slamming the door behind him. Caemryn stiffened when the door slammed but that was it. She blew the foul air of burning flesh out of her nose, but remained quiet. It was best to let Theomus talk when he got this way. "Are you questioning the will of me and my Queen? Disobeying an order is tantamount to treason. Treason is punishable by death." He said, and placed his hands on her shoulders. She swallowed, she could feel the warm wetness of his hands soak into the cloth of her dress and knew immediately what the liquid was. This was why she wore red most of the time "Are you disobeying me, Le Buque?"
Her smile was measured. She knew she was the only thing standing in Theomus’s way of killing Le Beque in the most horribly of ways and that gave her a sense of pride. It was like behind the master of a wild beast, knowing that with only a word she could unleash it’s fury.
“I don’t believe he was, My love.” She said, looking at Le Beque but reaching back and placing a soft hand against Theomus’ cheek. “If anything he values his life.”

"My wife has already given her answer, Le Buque!" Theomus spat, slamming the door behind him. Peregrine cringed at the horrid smell that seemed to bolt out of the Laboratory as if dying for escape itself. For a brief moment he spotted the unfortunate girl that was the King’s current victim. Peregrine, not wanting to see such tragedy, averted his eyes downward until the doors were closed.

"Are you questioning the will of me and my Queen? Disobeying an order is tantamount to treason. Treason is punishable by death." Theomus continued, and placed his hands on his wife’s shoulders. Blood absorbed into her clothing and Peregrine found his eyes toggling between the queen’s shoulder and her eyes, his face remained relatively placid. Peregrine was very good at maintaining a placid disposition even when thoroughly upset. "Are you disobeying me, Le Buque?" Theomus concluded his rant finally.

The queen seemed to be enjoying this little scene. Peregrine knew he was making a risky move by questioning the queen but he was desperate for the chance to make a move towards his goal of vengeance. He thought serving this kingdom would more swiftly assist him in pursuing his vengeance but so far that as well was a miscalculation. In Peregrine’s eyes Theomus was a sick fool of a king that deserved to be put down like a rabid dog. The Queen Peregrine respected a considerable amount more however she was saddled to the grief her husband caused her which seriously annoyed him to watch.

“I don’t believe he was, My love.” Caemryn said, looking at Le Beque but reaching back and placing a soft hand against Theomus’ cheek. “If anything he values his life.”

The corners of Peregrine’s lips curled upward only slightly as the queen gave her response to the questions Theomus badgered him with. Peregrine wanted nothing more than to snap the Theomus’ neck but such an impulse would see to it that he’d never see justice for his son’s death. He gathered himself calmly and spoke, “My apologies your majesties for my poor judgment. My only wish was to be of good council for your majesty the queen. I was wrong in my pursuit.” Peregrine tilted slightly into a polite bow. Just then a herald announced the arrival of the queen’s sister.

“Your majesties and Sir Le Buque, Lady Vanessa Pendragon!” the herald’s voice bellowed through the hall.

Down sauntered Vanessa swiftly and full of energy. “My word what is that GHASTLY smell…? Theomus have you been burning flesh again? Theo you should REALLY find a better hobby…” She said in a cute and airy manner. She didn’t leave much time for a response before she continued on, not that she wanted to hear anything Theomus had to say anyway. “My husband just told me that Arkaelus, king of the Republic of Khalidor, recently sent him a personal telegram asking him to increase the trade of Valyrian wheat to Khalidor amongst other goods. There’s a summit there! Sister you wouldn’t be planning on leaving for Khalidor without me now would you?! Francis and I would be so sore if you did.”

Peregrine smirked a little, Vanessa’s goose-like energy was actually a relief at the present moment. He spoke “Actually Lady Pendragon, Majesties the Queen and King were just making their intentions clear that Valyria will have no official representation at the Trade Summit of Khalidor Republic.”

“Not WHA-,“ Vanessa’s response was cut short for realization of what she was just told. “Oh… oh dear. Whatever is the issue? Is it that Theomus is too busy with his… work…. to attend? I mean I’m sure he would much prefer to stay at home anyway. We could go you and I and Francis! It’ll be our own adventure! We haven’t had one I in too long! Peregrine could come along too, every adventure needs raw muscle.”

As much as Peregrine appreciated Lady Pendragon’s pleading with her sister to attend the Summit, he was pretty positive that it was all in futility. He knew that not even Vanessa’s sisterly charms would sway Caemryn when she set her mind on something. That woman was both as smooth and tough as marble. Peregrine actually fancied that about the queen. He found her attractive and he wouldn’t object if she were to find interest in him however he knew she cared very little for him so that was a fleeting fantasy at best. Besides she lacked the genuine sweetness the he cherished so in his late wife.

My apologies your majesties for my poor judgment. My only wish was to be of good council for your majesty the queen. I was wrong in my pursuit." Peregrine said and Caemryn merely tossed a hand, dismissing the matter. However no sooner did she, did a herald appear announcing what could honestly be the most annoying thing she could imagine for this particular moment.

Her sister....

My word what is that GHASTLY smell…? Theomus have you been burning flesh again? Theo you should REALLY find a better hobby…” She said cutely and Cameryn pursed her lips, setting her shoulders. She placed a hand on Theomus' bloodied one and smiled up at him. Gracing him with a kiss. If only to ease his temper...So long as she was touching him, she hoped, it would stop him from going off again.

Why....why now, did she make her appearance. She knew her sister never held much love to Theomus, and she'd never learned the grace with which was needed to handle him as his lacking sanity. Most days, she just ended up setting him off which meant more burning flesh.
Caemryn huffed. "Out of the fire...." she thought, with a bit of irony given her husband's “Actually Lady Pendragon, Majesties the Queen and King were just making their intentions clear that Valyria will have no official representation at the Trade Summit of Khalidor Republic.”
Image
“Not WHA-,“ Vanessa gasped and Caemryn cocked her head, arching her brow distainfully. “Oh… oh dear. Whatever is the issue? Is it that Theomus is too busy with his… work…. to attend? I mean I’m sure he would much prefer to stay at home anyway. We could go you and I and Francis! It’ll be our own adventure! We haven’t had one I in too long! Peregrine could come along too, every adventure needs raw muscle.” She said and Caemryn clicked her teeth.

"Stop talking, Vanessa" She said, shortly and took her husband's bloody hands. "Go on, my Love, finish with your studies, if you like, I'll take my sister and Le Bugue so we can discuss why my sister decided to appear today." She said and lead them into the council chambers were she took a seat at the head of the table. She was Queen Regent after all. Once they were all seated. Caemryn eyed her sister.

"What in seven hells would we possible want in Khalidor? Hmm? We have all that we need, and the only thing we need to worry about is, Drake, which...if a certain someone had behaved herself whilst she were there, then we would have been in good standing with them...." She said with a knowing look. Her sister was half as crazy as her husband, she just failed to see it. She had a love of stealing hearts, or atleast the essence of one. "Even if Drake wanted to mount an attack, we would see it coming, and can defend it, but it's a trade summit, not a war committee, it's irrelevant." She said before snapping her hand at a cupbearer that was properly waiting. He came rushing over and poured her a glass.
Image

"Why would we travel all the way to the cold hell of the North for? Furs?" She said with a chuckle at the mere absurdity of it all. "Or perhaps we trade with the Faeries?" She said. "We have our own magic, there's nothing we need from anyone else. As far as I'm concerns, everyone but us are the enemy."

"Stop talking, Vanessa" Caemryn said to Le Buque, before turning to him and taking his hand, which he now only realised was covered in blood. He didn't like Vanessa, she didnt respect him, she didnt respect his queen, "Go on, my Love, finish with your studies, if you like, I'll take my sister and Le Bugue so we can discuss why my sister decided to appear today."
He looked between Caemyrn, Vanessa and Le Buque, unsure of how to act. He hated being unsure, looking weak and like she didn't know what he was doing. He was King, no matter what he was doing it was the right thing. He hardened his features and nodded to his queen, trying to look assertive, before silently returning to his laboratory. Caemryn could handle this, she was good at these things, the boring things, the things he didnt like.
"Now my dear," He said, returning to the girl on the table, "Where were we?..."

"Stop talking, Vanessa" Caemryn said, shortly and took her husband's bloody hands. Vanessa was halted and looked slightly surprised at her sister’s stifling her. She folded her arms and shifted her weight to her left side and then threw an upward glance at Peregrine. He looked over to her and offered a short and polite smile, his blue eyes holding her attention a few moments longer so that he could mouth out the words ‘Thank you’.

"Go on, my Love, finish with your studies, if you like, I'll take my sister and Le Buque so we can discuss why my sister decided to appear today." Caemryn finished and lead them into the council chambers were she took a seat at the head of the table. Once they were all seated. Caemryn eyed her sister.

Vanessa and Peregrine both took seats after Peregrine assisted Vanessa. Vanessa returned her sister’s stare and broke the moment of silence with an abrupt “What?”

"What in seven hells would we possibly want in Khalidor? Hmm? We have all that we need, and the only thing we need to worry about is, Drake, which...if a certain someone had behaved herself whilst she were there, then we would have been in good standing with them...." She said with a knowing look.

Vanessa rolled her eyes and proceeded to remove her black gloves. “Oh please Moloch is such a grouch… I was only trying to show Prince Kallias how to pull a heart out. It’s not like I was going to crush it or anything. I apologized that should have been more than enough. Kallias is adorable but a total baby.” Vanessa thought back to the look of terror on Prince Kallias’ face when she ripped his enchanted heart out from his chest. He was mortified as she stood holding the glowing red heart in front of him. She could still see Moloch’s face turn blood red to this day. “God I’ve never heard a man yell so angrily before then… I still can’t figure how Moloch and Francis became friends.” She said in a pondering manner.

Caemryn continued, "Even if Drake wanted to mount an attack, we would see it coming, and can defend it, but it's a trade summit, not a war committee, it's irrelevant." she said before snapping her hand at a cupbearer that was properly waiting. He came rushing over and poured her a glass.

Vanessa looked slightly annoyed with her elder sister, but she quickly re-chambered and responded. “Oh my dear sister you’ve mistaken my intentions. Heavens I don’t want to go there for trade. GOD NO… that’s Francis’ thing.” She said in an exhale of a manner. “I want to socialize, to sight see, both scenery and men. A fur would be nice too, now that you mention it. And I’m quite curious to lay eyes on Arkaelus again. Last time I saw him he was pretty attractive. I need to add him to my list.” Vanessa motioned for the wine bearer to pour her a glass as well as one for the general.

Peregrine took the cup, thanked the servant, and turned to Vanessa after taking a sip from his cup. “So My Lady, what was your reason for the sudden visit today?”

Vanessa flash Peregrine a quick smile then turned toward Caemryn, ”I came here because I thought we would be going on a trip together. I was even beginning to warm up to the thought of your dear obscure husband being present. However since Khalidor is out, what do we do in its place? We’ve been cooped up in the kingdom for too long. Please tell me you’ve something planned, because frankly I don’t see how you stay around this castle that, by the hour, smells like burning flesh.”

GOD NO… that’s Francis’ thing.” Vanessa huffed. “I want to socialize, to sight see, both scenery and men. A fur would be nice too, now that you mention it. And I’m quite curious to lay eyes on Arkaelus again. Last time I saw him he was pretty attractive. I need to add him to my list.” Caemyrn rolled her eyes. "Socialize..." She muttered.
“So My Lady, what was your reason for the sudden visit today?” Peregrine asked, diplomatic as always. Vanessa, grinned a mad grin but spoke in sister to Caemryn. ”I came here because I thought we would be going on a trip together.

"A Trip?" Caemryn couldn't believe the words. "You've seen my husband, if I don't keep him in that damnable "laboratory" I won't have any people to rule...I can't leave him and I certainly can't take him anywhere..." She snapped, her breathing quick, but she sat back against her chair, drinking from her wine glass. "I never did tell you what happened the day we were engaged, did I?" She said, thrusting out her arm. "More Wine." she said without looking at the wine bearer.

"I was young, as you remember when father brought me to meet the King of Valyria...I was excited, I just knew I would be Queen." She began, taking a swing of wine. "What I hadn't known was there were many girls, awaiting to become Queen. So when I arrived, I put it into my head that I would do anything to make him choose me." She said, the wine doing it's job finally.
"We were all presented to the King, all at once. That's when I noticed something was off about him. He was handsome enough but he would warp his face, twitch every so often. It was odd, but I left it alone, twisted it into my head so that it seemed charming." She said, her lip twitched in disgust. "The whole day, we all danced and sang and laughed for no real reason, all to please him.Realizing that the usual tricks wouldn't work, I decided to learn him, find out what interested him and I did...You see, You were never meant to be Queen of anything, you weren't raised that way, but me, Our parents, our mother, she made sure I would be Queen, it was expected of me."She said, looking at her sister.

"So, when all was said in done, and we retired for the evening, I snuck my way into his chambers. I found him there, in bed, he wasn't sleeping, just laying there, face twitching. I moved to him, graceful and soft. I told him, how lovely I thought his eyes were, and how bright his teeth were, but that didn't seem to interest him, it wasn't until he noticed that my dress was red and told me that was his favorite, I asked him why and he told me...It reminded him a fire, but not fire itself, but what it did to the skin. That's when I knew, this man, or boy then, was insane....I didn't let it deter me though, because, I would be Queen, so I asked him to show me." She said, with a measured smile, "I let him hold my candle to my arm, and burn my skin. He held it there in just enough time for my skin to turn red. I didn't move, I just let it happen." She said and took another drink. "He likes to tell me, that was the day he fell in love with me..." She said disdainfully. "Anyway, I told him after that, how fascinating that was, but I feared he would not be able to show me any more things like that because I would have to leave, that he would have to marry one of the other girls, and she wouldn't like that but if we marry, I would become his, and his forever, and he could show me all the things he wanted to. " She said and her gaze drifted. "With that, I gave him a kiss, on the forehead, and went to bed, and I knew I won him over....What I hadn't known, was what he would do next and what he did shocked me..." She said and looked at her sister. " You remember mother, her teachings, her lessons in blood magic, do I look easily shocked?"
She asked rhetorically. "What he did, shocked me." She said, her gaze drifting "I can still see them....All the girls, all of my competition, burning, screaming...and him, standing there, arms out wide, presenting me with my engagement gift and promising more to come when we marry....he has not gone back on the promise." She said, looked to her sister.

"You want to socialize....with him about...that man, who, if given the chance, would burn the world to the ground if only to please me?" She said, "or worse, have me leave him, here, for more girls, to suffer his experiments...For what? Because you're bored and sick of the smell...?" She said and drank the rest of her wine.

"The point of that tale is this, that man, needs handled, carefully, by me and only me, I can not waste time, going anywhere, with or without him."

Vanessa and Peregrine both listened and watched Caemryn respond to Vanessa’s previous explanation of intent. "A Trip?" Caemryn said unbelievingly.

Vanessa looked on curiously, her head cocked to the side. ”No you never did…” she said in an apprehensive tone. Caemryn needed alcohol to tell this story so it was bound to have been REALLY bad, Vanessa thought. Peregrine sat quietly listening intently. Since what was about to be told all happened before he relocated to the kingdom of Valyria he was intrigued to hear this rare tale.

Caemryn continued, "I was young, as you remember when father brought me to meet the King of Valyria...I was excited, I just knew I would be Queen." She began, taking a swing of wine. "What I hadn't known was there were many girls, awaiting to become Queen. So when I arrived, I put it into my head that I would do anything to make him choose me." She said.

Peregrine noted that the wine was beginning to take its effect on the queen, something he wasn’t used to seeing in regards to her. He knew that she was having a really vulnerable moment by recounting this experience. He was beginning to feel a little for her. She carried much weight on her shoulders yet she rarely ever let it show that it was quite the burden that it truly was. He looked over to Vanessa who seemed to sit bracing herself for the worst. Clearly Caemryn’s tale hadn’t reached its epitome yet it was already shocking Vanessa, another feat not easily met.

"We were all presented to the King, all at once. That's when I noticed something was off about him. He was handsome enough but he would warp his face, twitch every so often. It was odd, but I left it alone, twisted it into my head so that it seemed charming." She said, her lip twitched in disgust. "The whole day, we all danced and sang and laughed for no real reason, all to please him. She said, looking at her sister.

Vanessa looked to the side in thought. She realized that Caemeryn brought up an interesting point. Thinking back on how their parents were, they never seemed to push her into marriage until the last minute. It was an afterthought when it concerned Vanessa. However Caemryn was always associated with social ladder climbing. Caemryn could never sit up straight enough or speak eloquently enough, whereas Vanessa was allowed to slouch or be informal in speech. Caemryn was introduced to a king as Vanessa was given to an older nobleman of good social standing. Vanessa snapped out of her own thoughts and continued to listen.

Peregrine looked composed yet he was astonished at the queen’s bravery and determination. To tell a psycho that you want them to show you more of their insane fantasy, even worse that you’d give yourself to them was crazy. The weak willed would never go that far. This was why Peregrine revered the queen as well as noted her as a threat. She was determined to the bitter end and didn’t scare easily. To make an enemy of her would be to make a grave mistake. He wanted to be as close to her as he could get. That was safer than being on the outskirts of her graces.

Vanessa recalled that time. “Wait… that was the truth behind the disappearance of all those noble women? I remember Francis said he heard whispers that it had something to do with the King and that he was trying to find out more. However his family immediately sent for him to return to Drake City at the time… Oh god…” Vanessa said as she placed a hand over her chest.

Caemeryn continued, "You want to socialize....with him about...that man, who, if given the chance, would burn the world to the ground if only to please me?" She said, "or worse, have me leave him, here, for more girls, to suffer his experiments...For what? Because you're bored and sick of the smell...?" She said and drank the rest of her wine. "The point of that tale is this, that man, needs handled, carefully, by me and only me, I cannot waste time, going anywhere, with or without him."

Vanessa looked at Caemryn and gave a quick smile. “Okay. Point made, point taken. Gee…I’m sure the Humanists have a field day brooding over Theomus’ abductions. Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were… preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” Vanessa wasn’t referring to the laboratory when she mentioned somewhere out of the way. She knew she was treading on thin ice but when had she even not done so when it concerned Theomus.

Peregrine tried not to grin. Oh how he would kiss the person that got rid of Theomus, if such an unlikely thing were to happen. However as it stood, as insane as Theomus was Caemryn still seemed to hold some capacity of love for him. Peregrine never envied royalty as it was a life of false freedoms. Being shackled in plain sight was not his idea of living. Given Caemryn’s predicament, she needed people who could carry out her will in places where she herself could not go, and when quill and parchment didn’t suffice. Peregrine, Vanessa, and Francis were often her go to people. ”Your Majesty you can always count on us to assist you in any way you deem fit. Travel may not be a luxury afforded to you at present, however I’m sure I speak for Lady Pendragon, Governor Francis Pendragon, and myself when I say that we would gladly carry your will wherever you so desire.”

Vanessa added, “Although Peregrine should never be as comfortable speaking for my husband or I, for that matter, I do agree with him.” She gave a quaint smile at the general. Stood to her feet and pecked him on the cheek. She then sat in the seat next to Caemryn and pulled it closer to her sister’s chair. Vanessa placed an arm around Caemryn’s shoulders to comfort her intoxicated sister. There now, you should get some rest. We’ll babysit Theomus if you’d like to lie down for a bit.”

Peregrine rose from his seat and bowed slightly. “I can escort your majesty to her chambers if need be.”

“Okay. Point made, point taken. Gee…I’m sure the Humanists have a field day brooding over Theomus’ abductions. Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were… preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” Vanessa said and Caemryn shot her a warning look. Most days, Theomus annoyed her, but...she was his and he was hers. She worked too damn hard for it. If she were honest with herself, she would even go as far as to say she cared about him, but since when was she ever honest with herself. ”Your Majesty you can always count on us to assist you in any way you deem fit. Travel may not be a luxury afforded to you at present, however I’m sure I speak for Lady Pendragon, Governor Francis Pendragon, and myself when I say that we would gladly carry your will wherever you so desire.” Caemryn rolled her eyes. Great, now they pitied her. She rose the glass to her lips only to find it empty. “Although Peregrine should never be as comfortable speaking for my husband or I, for that matter, I do agree with him.” Vanessa said and while she was about to call for more wine when Vanessa came over, pulled her over with an arm. There now, you should get some rest. We’ll babysit Theomus if you’d like to lie down for a bit.”
Caemyrn set her jaw. Peregrine rose and bowed. “I can escort your majesty to her chambers if need be.” He said and Caemryn shoved her sister off of her.

"Were you not paying attention!?" She spat. "You can not do a damned thing for Theomus, that's my job, I have to do it I-" She shot to her feet, but held on to the table as the world spun in her vision. She held her head. "Peregrine, make yourself useful." She ordered, and allow him to escort her to her chambers.

Oddly, as she leaned up against Peregrine, she felt warm in a way she hadn't in a long time, if very. She wanted for once, someone to care for her, look after her, bare the burden just a little bit.

"Peregrine..." She said, her voice soft as they entered her chambers. "Do you think I'm beautiful?" She asked, her fingers crawling up his shoulder. She smiled when he answered and posed her with a question of his own. "Because...you're sane...." She said, she grabbed ahold of his face, and pressed her lips firmly against his,

She just wanted to be held, loved even, but not with monstrous gifts, and grotesque offerings, she wanted something normal, even if it was Peregrine, even if she didn't particularly like him nor did she dislike him, or find him all that attractive. She wanted to know what it felt like.

After a moment, she realized that at any moment, that if her husband were to walk in here, and see her now, he would kill them both, unless she lied and said that Peregrine attacked her, made her or something. He would believe anything if she told it to him.

Peregrine, though, he would be killed in the most horrible of ways.

She shoved away from him. "Get out." She said, wiping her mouth, then interlocking her fingers. That was a dangerous mistake. " If my husband sees you, you will burn....Go, Now."she said more calmly now. If she were going to make that mistake, she would do it with someone that was actually useful.

Caemryn shoved her sister off of her. To which Vanessa was taken aback.

Peregrine took her hand gently and helped her maintain her balance. He was unused to the queen calling him by his first name. Unlike Vanessa, Caemryn and Theomus almost always referred to him by last name. It may have been because she was tipsy and lacking the energy for being overly formal thus Peregrine dismissed the thought process.

Vanessa folded her arms in minor frustration at her sister’s irritable disposition. She watched Peregrine gently escort Caemryn out of the room and down the hall. Having a second thought on her guarding the laboratory door in the event that Theomus emerged Vanessa cringed. ”I may need some help here… Theo relates to Francis much better than me.” Vanessa called for a messenger. ”Send word for my husband Governor Francis at once. Tell him his wife needs him urgently at the palace. Don’t dawdle.” she warned. Taking another drink, she sat back down and waited for Francis’ arrival.

Meanwhile in the hall, Peregrine assisted the queen to her chambers. A few court servants bowed humbly as the two passed them by. They scurried off out of sight once passed by the queen and general. "Peregrine..." Caemryn said, her voice soft as they entered her chambers. "Do you think I'm beautiful?" She asked, her fingers crawling up his shoulder.

Peregrine was a little slower than usual to register what was happening. ‘Is she coming on to me?’ he thought to himself. He gathered himself as best he could to respond. His usual placid demeanor was difficult to muster in this moment for some reason. His heart was pushing to answer honestly rather than strategically. He looked into Caemryn’s eyes and replied softly, ”Your majesty, you are a goddess amongst mortals. If the most vibrant of paintings were to attempt to portrait your beauty they would all surely fall short. I am fortunate to behold your image daily. But why ask such a thing of one such as I?”

She smiled when he answered and posed her with a question of his own. "Because...you're sane...." She said, she grabbed ahold of his face, and pressed her lips firmly against his. Peregrine was internally shocked but only for a mere moment. His heart seized the opportunity and he acted on raw emotion. Peregrine returned the intoxicated queen’s kiss with his own sudden passionate kiss. For a couple of split seconds he let his guard down and closed his eyes. This was the first romantic moment he’d had since his wife was alive.

Caemryn shoved away from him. "Get out." She said, wiping her mouth, then interlocking her fingers. They both realized they had made a dangerous mistake. " If my husband sees you, you will burn....Go, Now." she said more calmly now.

Peregrine stepped back reluctantly. It was as if a dream were abruptly ended. He placed his hand gently over his lips in an unconscious attempt to savor the feeling. Gathering his usual placid disposition he let out a heavy sigh, “Your majesty. I bid thee good day.” He bowed and turned to head down the hall. As he rounded the corner he leaned against the wall breathing heavily. ”My god man, what did you just do?!” he said to himself quietly yet frantically. He tried to steady his swiftly beating heart but it was not as easy as he had hoped. ”One little slip like that could cause your head to roll and your bowels to be removed and shown to you before execution. You have to be careful. You must live to avenge your son.” he said to himself in an attempt to pep talk himself. After gathering himself he proceeded towards his chambers.

An hour later, Francis had arrived at the palace. He was greeted cheerfully by everyone he encountered. He was well liked by the subjects of the kingdom. Most subjects viewed Francis and Caemryn as the ‘normal’ ones of the royal family. A few servants gladly showed him the way to Lady Vanessa. As he entered the room he held a little grin on his face. (OOC: Francis speaks in a French accent. I attribute it to some form of olden Drake City Dialect his family speaks in. He will often mispronounce “th” sounds with “Z” sounds. For ex. I don’t think I’m going to type out the mispronunciations so I ask you imagine a frenchaccent when reading his lines.) ”My love, you requested my presence?” he said with a bow.

Vanessa stood to her feet and hugged Francis. ”I’m so glad you’re here! Caemryn needs to rest and I can’t possibly look after Theomus alone lest I burn him with a fireball. He responds well to you.”

Francis’ smile faded slightly. ”Tis not my favorite pastime, but for you anything.” He replied, he followed by giving Vanessa a kiss on the cheek.

Vanessa replied, ”Also I have more bad news.” Francis braced himself. Vanessa continued. “Caemryn decided that Valyria would have no official representation at the Khalidor trade summit. We won’t be going…”

Francis shrugged and smiled casually. “Worry not my love. I have already made a large sum of money trading a few important goods to Khalidor. Besides we will get the opportunity to travel soon. If your sister cannot join us then you and I will adventure and do business abroad alone. What do you say to a trip soon? Will you go on my adventure?”

Vanessa smile brightly and in a sigh of a manner she replied, “Glady…”

Later that evening, Caemyrn caught her breath, while-- Well she couldn't remember his name, but he tried to reach up and kiss her but she held her hand over his mouth. "Don't..."She said and he looked hurt but smiled. "That was amazing." He said and she rolled her eyes. "I'm sure it was." She said and climbed out of bed, pulling her night clothes over her pale body. "Was it not good for you, Your Grace?" He asked, taking his time getting dressed. "Would you just get dressed and stop asking questions?" She said as she walked over to the table and grabbed a cup of wine. "Your Grace, if there's something you want--"
"I want you to get dressed and then out." She said, without looking at him. "Quickly." She said and he hurried up then scurried out. It was at the moment that a waft of burning flesh came flooding in, which meant her husband. She poured herself another drink.
That fool, he just got himself killed.

She turned to see Theomus, looking far from pleased. "My love, It is nice to see you before I sleep." She said and then frowned. "What is it? What's the matter?" She said walking up to him, taking his hands. "Did one of your subjects parish too soon, I told you you should try man, a strong one, they tend last longer." She said, feigning diplomacy. "That's not it, what's wrong?"

Theomus felt uneasy, the events of that afternoon leaving him angry and confused. Why was Caemryn the one who was asked first? Why had he not been told of some far off Khalidoran summit? He probably would have deferred the decision to her in any case, but that was not the point. The point, was he was King. This was his Kingdom. His people. THEY BELONGED TO HIM! HIM AND NO ONE ELSE!
He moved through the castle like a ghoul, making no sound as his cadaverous, bloodstained visage strode along the corridors of his realm. He was going to speak to Caemryn, ensure that she understood that she may be his wife, but he was her king and she would treat him as such.
The girl he had held in his laboratory had not lasted much longer, her body being disposed of like all the others had. So far, he had yielded no conclusive results.
There was a noise ahead and Theomus paused, he was almost at his queens chambers now, such a noise could have only come from there. He slunk back into the shadows, watching, waiting for whomever it was who had left his queens abode. A young man walked past, out of breath and sweaty, his clothes rumpled and only half on him. Theomus remembered his face. He would be questioned, and punished, later. For now he had to speak with his wife.
He left the shadows and rounded the corner to where the Queens door sat slightly ajar. He pressed it open gently and stepped inside, where Caemryn, dressed in her night clothes, stood with a glass of wine in hand.
"My love, It is nice to see you before I sleep." She said and then frowned. "What is it? What's the matter?" She said walking up to him, taking his hands. "Did one of your subjects parish too soon, I told you you should try man, a strong one, they tend last longer." She said, feigning ignorance. "That's not it, what's wrong?"
He watched her face, her eyes, not wanting to believe that she had betrayed him in this way.
"There was a man outside." He said, in an even measured tone, "He appeared to have just left your chambers. he was sweaty with exertion and only half dressed. Tell me. What was he doing here?"

Image "There was a man outside." Themous said, he almost sounded sane. "He appeared to have just left your chambers. He was sweaty with exertion and only half dressed. Tell me. What was he doing here?"
Caemyrn, without wasting a moment, held her hand over her mouth. "I thought I felt someone watching, I just assumed I was tired and imagining things." She said, allowing tears to gloss her eyes. She was a skilled liar, she wouldn't have gotten this far if she wasn't. She tugged her clothes at her shoulders, as if she were suddenly uncomfortable."I'd just finished bathing. Oh Gods, My love, do you think he was watching me...?" She said, holding her chest as if her heart was racing as she sat on the bed. "This is why you need to be here with me at night, they would have never done such a thing had you been here.... Do you know who it was? I want his head." She said, blinking back her tears as if she were trying to appear strong. "Find him, Theo...Oh Gods." She said and shivered. She told the little idiot to run, he didn't, this is what happens when someone doesn't listen.

"Find him, Theo...Oh Gods." Caemryn said, tears welling and her body shivver as she clutched herself.
Theomus stood and watched her blankly, staring into her eyes. Silent for what must have been the longest second. He stepped forward and embraced his love firmly, protectively encircling her. One hand ran through her golden hair, and he kissed the top of her head to comfort her.
"I will."
He broke from the embrace suddenly and marched off out the door, he had work to do.
"SEAL THE GATES!" He screamed, as he strode back down along the corridor, "NO ONE LEAVES THE CASTLE ON PAIN OF DEATH! GUARDS TO ME, YOUR KING CALLS YOU!"
A call began, solitary at first but swiftly growing in clamour and frequency. Calls to seal the gates, calls to attend the king. Swiftly men descended upon Theomus's position, the whole castle awakening at his indignation.
"Sir what is your will?" One of the guards asked Theomus as he took a knee before his king.
"There is an intruder in the castle," Themus said, not even breaking stride, "He has defiled my queens quarters and her dignity. Bring him to me alive. No one on the gates leaves their post on pain of death. No one leaves the castle or I will have every guard on the wall executed. Find every man in the castle and bring him before me. I know his face. I will await there. You two, see to my wife and bring her to the throne room. She will want to see justice done. You, bring oil and pitch to the throneroom. I will punish the insolent cur myself. GO!"

For a moment, a brief moment, she thought he didn't believe her as he stared at her for the longest moment. Finally, he stepped up to her pulled her into him and held her. If she were honest with herself, it felt nice, to have him hold her like a normal sane man would hold his wife."I will" He told her and broke from her, causing her to stumbled gracelessly backward, she found her footing though, straightened herself and cleared her tears. She began searching for something to wear. There would be an execution this night. Image

It didn't take long for her husband to find the fool boy and had guards come to collect her.
"Your Grace, The King has requested your present in the throne room."

"'Of course he has." She said as she pulled a shaw over her shoulders. "My sister, her husband and Lord Peregrine, collect them as well. I want them all to see this." She said and of the two guards that had come for her ran off to get her sister and her husband.

Caemryn walked with the single guard and made her way to the throne room, passing the boy as she entered and took a seat at her throne beside her husband's.
Image
"Y-Your Grace....I-I..."
Caemryn rose her hand silencing the boy. "You've dishonored me....Do you think anyone here wants to hear you speak." She said and the defeated look in his eyes were not lost on her, but it didn't effect her. She told him, he wanted to continue to touch her, to linger, when she warned him to leave, so this was his own doing.

She turned her head. "My King, my Love, please" She said softly. "Return to me my honor...." She said.

"Your Grace, Please, Mercy!" He begged but Caemyrn would not hear any of it. Instead, she looked to Peregrine, warning in her eyes. This could be him if they aren't careful.

(Note: Francis speaks in a French accent. I didn’t feel like typing his dialogue in a French accent so I ask if you all would imagine the accent as you read his dialogue. I attribute the accent to some olden dialect of Drake City common tongue. He is originally from Drake City.)

Night had come, Francis and Vanessa were about to leave the palace after an uneventful afternoon of keeping tabs on King Theomus. Really Francis did the interacting with Theomus as the King and Vanessa seldom got on well with one another. If anyone was to look stand about Theomus’ Laboratory door, Theomus didn’t mind Francis so much. Theo had finished his experimenting for the night so Francis and Vanessa had bid him goodnight and were headed home. Just as their carriage was ready to pull off from the palace a guard came rushing up screaming for the carriage to be halted.

“DRIVER PLEASE STOP THE CARRIAGE, BY ORDER OF THE QUEEN. The carriage came to an abrupt stop, which made Vanessa look to Francis in serious annoyance.

Francis sighed heavily. He looked to Vanessa pleadingly. He knew his wife was not easy to quell when angered. Accordingly, Vanessa remained silent and allowed Francis to deal with the situation. Francis drew back the curtain of the carriage window and looked at the messenger who’d trotted up to the window out of breath. “Whatever may be the issue? Does my dear sister in law require something from my wife and I? If it is not urgent we would like to return home. And of course, always give her our best regards.” Francis said to the messenger with a smile.

The messenger replied in huffs and puffs having still not quite caught his breath. ”Your grace Governor Francis and Lady Pendragon, I regret having to present you with an imposition; however his Majesty the King has issued an order for an execution tonight. Her Majesty the Queen has requested your grace’s presence. Would your grace please be so kind as to return to the palace?”

Vanessa, with a shocked expression, turned to Francis and gasped, “An EXECUTION?! What on earth happened?” She wondered what would have set Theomus off to hold a public execution. He killed people daily, yes. However those deaths were the result of experimentation in his lab. There were not made tobe public spectacles. Before Francis could reply Vanessa did. ”Right away.” She then called out to the driver. ”Driver, about face. We’re heading back inside. I shan’t miss this.”

Francis shook his head slightly saddened by the news of an execution. They were escorted down the halls and towards the throne room. Peregrine also had just arrived at the doors to the throne room. Francis was glad to see the general. He immediately greeted him and inquired as to what was going on. “General Le Buque what has happened? Who is to be executed and heavens why?”

Peregrine stood with a slightly uneasy look upon his face. He replied stoically, “A young, and certainly foolish, man has been accused of dishonoring the Queen. The King has ordered his death.”

Francis shook his head in pity. ”What an unfortunate happening. Is the Queen alright?” Francis asked.

Peregrine replied looking straight ahead. ”Unfortunately I cannot confirm her emotional state right now. I can only imagine that she must be quite upset in more than one way.” Peregrine chose his words carefully. He made his expressions strategically. He knew exactly what this situation was about. Only a few hours earlier it was him who was embracing the Queen. This young man was filler, cannon fodder, attractive and expendable. Caemyrn used him to pick up what she started with Peregrine. This was consensual, and the queen no doubt wanted a sexual encounter just as much as that young man was willing to provide it. However apparently the fool was not careful and the King found out. Peregrine somewhat felt responsible for what was about to happen.

Vanessa commented, ”I suppose that you will be performing the execution?”

Peregrine slowly turned his head and replied grimly, ”No. I will not. His Majesty would like to restore his wife’s honor personally.”

Vanessa listened and having grown tired of standing outside of the throne room doors she decided to enter. With the swing of her hand in the air, the heavy double doors swung open magically. ”Let’s not dawdle.” She said shortly and she began to swiftly enter the room taking Francis by the hand guiding him forward. Inside Caemyrn and Theomus sat on their thrones.

"Y-Your Grace....I-I..." The young man begged. Francis felt sorry for him. He honestly wished this wasn’t happening, at least not in front of him. He definitely didn’t want to question the integrity of his sister in law but he also wasn’t a fan of executions.

"My King, my Love, please softly. "Return to me my honor...." She said.

"Your Grace, Please, Mercy!" He begged but Caemyrn would not hear any of it. Instead, she looked to Peregrine, warning in her eyes. This could be him if they aren't careful.

Peregrine stared back at Caemyrn trying to decide if fooling around with Caemyrn was worth the risk. If he were ever to get caught, god forbid, there would be no way he’d allow Theomus to execute him without a serious fight. Peregrine would die trying to survive. Unlike Peregrine however, this young man lacked the skill and strength to accomplish such a feat to survive a fight for his life. He was doomed to death. It was clear that Caemyrn would not look out for him or anyone for that matter. She was a survivor plan and simple. Fortunately for Peregrine, so was he.

Peregrine looked toward Theomus, whose eyes seemed fixed on the young man awaiting execution. His eyes then trailed over towards Vanessa. Remembering what she had said earlier, ” Caemryn things would be so much simpler for you if Theo were… preoccupied, somewhere out of the way.” he placed more thought on Vanessa’s words. Honestly Theomus could easily be looked upon as a hindrance to his own kingdom’s longevity. He was most always preoccupied with his personal pursuits leaving Caemyrn to handle most all of the Kingdoms affairs. However usurping the throne was nowhere near any desire of Peregrine’s.

Vanessa looked upon the young man, ”It’s a pity you want him dead. He’s quite handsome. How about an eye for an eye? You could give the boy to Francis and I. He violated you so he could spend the rest of his existence being passed around and violated. Wouldn’t that be fitting?” She said to her sister rather casually.

Francis replied, ”My dear, Caemyrn is a queen and thus such a crime committed against her is only punishable by death usually.” He stepped forward and addressed the King and Queen. ”Your Majesties, I would be honored to handle this task for you. I could pluck out his heart and crush it. We can all go about our way. Her Majesty would have swift restoration of her honor.” Francis wanted to end this fiasco swiftly. He knew that death by Theomus’ hand would be horrid, torturous and long lasting.

Guarded by several Janissaries, Haviir's horse slowly approached the front gate of Valyria's palace. It had taken quite sometime to travel there and his guards was tired. They had left Volanti months ago with thirty ships, which were left in a coastal city at the moment. His guard consisted of fifty Janissaries and ten Spahi. Although, he didn't expect anything to happen there that would endanger him, Valyria was a mildly calm country.

"Who are you and state your business!" The palace guards shouted. Haviir dismounted before speaking. " I am the Lord of Volanti, here to speak to your Queen. The matter is none of your concern." The guards glanced between themselves and then to the Janissary corps in front of them. One of them realized that no average man brought that kind of protection, so he ran off to send to report to the queen.

As Haviir stood, he gazed at the beautiful buildings around him. Much of the countryside seemed prosperous, unlike his own kingdom. Volanti had been known as the "sick man of the south" for quite some time. As the insult suggested, its territories were slowly crumbling away to its neighbors and the only thing that held it together was an incredibly expensive budget. That was in fact the reason behind his trip to see the Valyrian queen. Volanti had defaulted its loans to Drake and desperately needed more cash to maintain itself. In exchange for a loan, Haviir had a lucrative proposal to ask of Queen Caemryn.

Caemryn watched as her brother by law and sister entered the hall. Peregrine looking back at her, seeing her words in her eyes.
”It’s a pity you want him dead. He’s quite handsome. How about an eye for an eye? You could give the boy to Francis and I. He violated you so he could spend the rest of his existence being passed around and violated. Wouldn’t that be fitting?” Vanessa said Caemryn sighed. Why her sister was so insipid she would never know.

”My dear, Caemyrn is a queen and thus such a crime committed against her is only punishable by death usually.” Her husband replied and Caemryn was surprised by his response. Oh what it must be like to have a sane husband. ”Your Majesties, I would be honored to handle this task for you. I could pluck out his heart and crush it. We can all go about our way. Her Majesty would have swift restoration of her honor.”

"No." Caemryn said. "I am my husbands, he dishonored not only me, but trespassed against him as well, My husband will do it as is his right." She said and it was then that yet another herald made an appearance.

"What is it now?" Caemryn asked with clear annoyance. "Forgive me your grace, but there is a man here to see you. He addressed you by name."The herald looked afraid. He knew what was happening here and didn't want to be apart of it.

"Well, who is it?"

"Haviier Kabuk."

Caemryn took a breath. "Send him. Let him see Valryian Justice." She said before allowing her husband to let the boy burn.

Haviir waited for sometime before the herald returned. The guards were looking at his party with such curiosity. It was clear that they had not been far outside of their country, for Volantian dress was incredibly similar to that of Ashkaran or even Avalon of old. Still he allowed them to look over his guards. When the herald returned he guided Haviir up to the queen. He wished she was closer to the entrance, for he was still tired from the long ride. As the herald opened the doors to the queen, Haviir entered.

"Ah Queen Caemryn, it's good to see you again and in such good health too. I haven't seen you since your father's funeral, bless his soul. Alas I have not come here to indulge in past memories, but to speak on behalf of business." He said, pulling up a seat to rest his weary legs. "I find time to be invaluable so I'll be blunt. I would you to consider giving me a loan. One million ducats would suffice. As for payment, I think you'd like what I have to offer." Haviir said. It was a ludicrous amount of money for the first loan, especially given his country's financial problems, but his payment on that loan would be too lucrative to pss up.

Caemryn decided to receive the Volanti in the Hall of the small council while her husband did his worst. She was seated at the head of the long table as he entered. His wariness was not lost on her, she just simply didn't care. It was late hour as it was. He should have waited til morning.

"Yes, yes, blessed, get on with it..."

"I find time to be invaluable so I'll be blunt. I would you to consider giving me a loan. One million ducats would suffice. As for payment, I think you'd like what I have to offer."

Caemryn grabbed the cup of wine that sat in front of her, knowing she'll need it.

"the payment is irrelevant at the moment, Haviir, what is so much money for?" She said, not one to be played for a fool. "What are re you planning because I have a sneaking suspicious that it'll be less the favorable for Valyria."

"What are re you planning because I have a sneaking suspicious that it'll be less the favorable for Valyria." Haviir smirked. Of course she skipped straight to the point.

"The Markus brothers are currently two oceans from their kingdom at Khalidor's summit. My spies had caught word of intentions to invade my country as a means to make up for our defaulted debt. So I've amassed the largest army Volanti had ever seen with the means of taking Drake City." He pulled out a map, placing it on the table.

"The money is meant to pay for the intial front of the invasion. My armies will march from the west to take Ithaca and siege Drake city, all the while my navy blockades their ports. I can muster fifteen legions to send in the first wave of the invasion, then another five for reinforcements. I request that you send your forces to put pressure on Drake's eastern borders. I'll send you a Janissary corp to assist your forces in taking Bellona's Spear." He took out a stick of charcoal and cut Drake in half.

"The new border will be split. Drake City and everything to its west goes to Volanti. In exchange for future financial backings and assistance in the war, the rest goes to Valyria. I predict that with our combined strength and their lack of leadership, the war should be over by the time Moloch comes back." His gaze met hers with confident eyes. The numbers weren't exaggerated. His armies were vast, but they were also poorly equipped and poorly trained for pitched battles. If the invasion were to go off without a hitch, he would need her full support.

Caemryn frowned. He has defaulted debt from another country, and some how he actually had the hubris to ask for a loan? She looked at him with amusement in her eyes as he pulled out a map and unfurled it on her table.

"The new border will be split. Drake City and everything to its west goes to Volanti. In exchange for future financial backings and assistance in the war, the rest goes to Valyria. I predict that with our combined strength and their lack of leadership, the war should be over by the time Moloch comes back."

Caemyrn cocked her head. "So what you want, it not only money, but an army equipped with Valyrian steel?" She asked. "I imagine with those numbers an invasion would do fine....it's not the men on the ground, it's the steel in their hands." She said. Valyrian steel, able to cut through other weapons like butter.

"How about adding to that, Anansai silk." came a woman voice from behind her. Caemryn shot from her chair and turned, a woman with long white hair, pink eyes, and a dangerous smile, shrouded in white cloth stood before her now. "What sorcery is this? Who are you and how did you get in here?" Caemyrn said, there were no doors in this room besides the one she'd entered in with, with Haviir. "Did you bring her?" She asked him with a hiss.

"No, He didn't bring me, in fact, I'm sure I gave him just as much as a start as you," the woman said, her voice smooth as silk. She moved around to Caemryn and took a seat at her right.

"Who are you?" Caemryn hissed. "What are you?"

"Sophinia." She said. "Queen of the UnSeelie Fae, and let us just say, I have an interest in the welfare of your country." She said, and with a wave of her hand, Caemyrn's seat, slid out. "Sit, let us all speak." She said, and Caemyrn took a breath but sat.

"What do you want."

"Many things, but the ones that concern you, and him are simple." She said and Caemyrn swallowed. "And they are?"

"I want you, to kill Tenanye Ananse." She said, and then looked to Haviir, "and you can have your invasion of the Drake." She said.

"Kill...How....She is Queen of he---

"No!" Sophinia lost all of her charm, as she shouted, her voice echoing not only in the room, but in their heads as well, enough to make them dizzy.
Image

She cleared her throat and smiled. " No, I am Queen, she is a whelp, who does not have the right to be called Empress...." She said. "An Insect, that can be crushed beneath my foot." She said, and sat down. "I will provide you with all you need to kill her and once that is finished, you will have all the distraction you need to mount your invasion." She said, with eyes toward Haviir.

"I never said, I would help."

"No, not with words..."

"What do I get in return?" Caemyrn asked.

"You...You're heart's desire, I'll heal your husbands broken mind...."

Caemyrn looked at her in shock. "You can do that?"
Image

"I am Fae, I can do many things." She said and Caemryn looked away. It was the one thing she wanted taht she with all of her magic and charm could not achieve. She would know what it was like to have a sane husband, she wouldn't have to do all of this herself. She could feel the love she knew he had for her.

"All you have to do is say yes" Sophinia said and Caemryn looked at Haviir. "You'll have your coin, and the soliders, all armed with Valryian Steel" She said and Sophinia smiled.

"And Tenanye Ananse will die." She said and she knew just the person to send.

Haviir pursed his lips as Caemryn made a demeaning expression. Surely she knew that after Volanti was conquered, Drake would be powerful enough to expand into her kingdom? Then that woman entered the room, with a voice as sweet as the dew around an oasis. He watched as she explained herself. He had only really heard of fae in story tales, but she had kind of spell in her voice, perhaps a enchantment, that was convincing the queen to join him. Just to assassinate a woman?

"You'll have your coin, and the soliders, all armed with Valryian Steel"

Haviir smiled in approval to her answer. "Good. I will send my riders to notify my forces. I'm glad that you have agreed. The steel can wait until we take Ithica, my Janissary corps have enough dragon armor to defend itself. The'll prepare for the blockade and the invasion immediately. I'd say that a week after the message arrives they'll be able to get to Ithica. After Drake has mobilized the west, sent some ships with the steel to my western flank, to the blockade. I'm positive that we can play cat and mouse with them once they come out of their little den." He told her confidently. He couldn't wait for the time to equip each one of his conscripts with silk and steel. Those could be for the Janissaries.
