Psychosis

//As I feel it is necessary to properly set the mood… these best describe the mood I want.

Psychosis Rule. Due to the Fact I’m certain everyone who joins will die at least once instead of dying you’ll enter a state of Psychosis and wake up X posts before and a state of Deja Vu and a mental ailment based off your character. If your mental state falls to low you will become and abomination and should you die in this state you will be dead for good.

Colony Aderon. System… Classified.

The dimly lit detainment rooms were freezing cold… or was that just the chills that came from the horrors of the tests… though one had to assume it was the blood curdling screams of other subjects who had been driven mad. The white suited soldiers seemed apathetic to the cries of the people they dragged down to the dark machine. One could only wish this horrid place was but a nightmare… a nightmare they may wake up from. Though in the end no amount of wishing or rambling… not even madness could save you. For the machine focused one’s natural ability to create… empowered it and attempted to materialize their deepest fears. Though more often then not it simply sent its victims into a coma filled with nightmares… that could kill… the heart giving out when the body thought itself dead. Now how ever… success is heard as the remaining prisoners hear the alarms sound… the horrid sound of metal breaking and flesh subsiding to claws. One must escape their cells and find a way out of the massive laboratory… they must survive a reality of a twisted mind… a nightmare made real… a reality devoid of reality.

At most one can remember their own name… and one must be careful in the flickering light or face eternal twilight. One best stick together… for the twisting subterranean laboratories are immense and one will become lost easily enough. Besides nightmares one must be weary of combat drones and the remaining marines attempting to leave no evidence of this crime against humanity, leave no trace by any means necessary that is their only order… their only rule. Survive as long as you can… ammo and food is scarce… take it when you can.

The Project

The Valens Project

Level Classification Level 0.
Restricted only to direct affiliated Employees. Information Leaks will result in removal from position.

The Valens project, the ability to materialize one’s nightmares… turn the mind into a true weapon capable of untold power. It focuses upon a single machine once one is strapped into it their arms fully apart and their legs straight down. Here one is connected to the machine by a chip implanted at the back of the neck. The horrors it inflict are great and numerous but the rewards are planned to be magnificent… the power to conquer entire worlds with out losing a soldier… the power to destroy and control… my fellows… with this we shall once more take back our former glory… Cydren shall live… and our enemies shall die.

The Project goes smoothly… the machine seems to be working wonders… on one individual. Subject ‘Raven’ she has earned this name due to our first… success if you will… using her mind we have materialized a Raven… an actually… living, breathing raven… this spells great success…

Discrepancies in power fluctuations have resulted in the death of several patients… several cases of a continued state of psychosis seems to be occurring even after we kill the feed… we will be shutting down all testing until further notice.

The board has informed me of the mishaps at Black and Red Projects… we have received heavy reinforcements to ensure no mishaps occur.

We have started our testing protocol again… the read outs are phenomenal… we believe whatever has happened has pushed our work forward many months… we hope to have success in a few weeks.

This… will be my last log everything is gone so wrong… so, horribly wrong. Everyone… is dead the machine won’t respond… the Hephaestus are online… and I’m four miles underground with a fucking colony above us… if we can’t contain this… billions will die. I have sustained heavy injury but I believe if I can initiate the self destruct sequence I can stop this from spreading… I can only hope that I can reach it in time.

Cydren Head of Research, Eric Michel

Secondary Projects

Project: Hanna

The testing of a specialized interrogation drug that induces a endless amount of unbearable pain that can be stopped on a dime with the injection of the antidote… live human subjects have been sued to test the formula… the antidote has yet to be successfully worked out.

Project White Cross

Development of a new weaponized substance related to Phosphorous and has begun testing affectivity on human subjects who have lost their minds due to the Valens Project. Its still in early development but its ability as a WMD are astounding.

Commanding Officers
1st in Command. Colonel George Allen- MIA, was overseeing Project Valens.
2ed in Command. Lieutenant Commander Matris.
3rd in Command. Head of Research Erich Michel, MIA, was overseeing Project Valens.

Image

Visage of Insanity.

Entities of madness conjured from the minds of madmen as they fell into abominations they are powerful in the sense they can think… learn… lead… and even use weapons that are not the primative weapons of their fellow nightmares. Do not underestimate these Nightmares… their mental abilities far out weight that of a human.
Image

These are the spawns of doubt… one can not be sure what lays beneath their shadowed helms… and one can’t help but doubt whether they stand a chance against these creatures.
Image

Suffocating Fear.

Monstrous skeletal creatures with four arms, they smell of rot and bring out bone chilling fear when present. While weak in physical strength they have a high levels of endurance and can not be killed unless the black orb is taken from their bodies… though be careful the longer your in their presence the harder it is to breath.//They do not have that face looking shoulder, so just ignore it.//
Image

Impassioned Hunger

Creature spawned by thoughts of passion… a hunger for lust… or all things desirable.
Image

Consumed

Once guards and subjects twisted into abomination by doubt… can they ever be saved… can we survive… will we join them. //created when a Consuming Doubt kills someone.

Disturbances in mental functions, these monsters were spawned, when one had a dream of being chased by attack dogs… since then the visages have been turned into these blood thirsty monsters.
Image

Blind Rage.
Monsters of insane anger, blind but still deadly they are nothing more then fire cocooned around a body of charcoal. Powerful against close combatants. Their fire consumes wood in seconds and metal in minuets.
Image

Corrupted Thought.

These visages are only half conceived nothing more then tattered images played on their robes… weak but capable of passing through any object besides doors, walls, ceilings, and floors. These are most numerous but also the most pathetic of nightmares… still be warned of attacking them when alone… they swarm.
Image

Protected by power armor and nearly invincible from the front, the only weak point being the separated plates to allow proper movement for their backs.
Image

Hephaestus.

These specialized combat drones are designed for purging viral outbreaks. They have become mass produced after the accidents at Red and Black Projects Colonies. They are armed with Plasma based ‘flame throwers’ and once activated with purge all life forms… and anything that moves. They are armed with a friend foe chip that prevents them from targeting another Hephaestus.
Image

The Blitz Axt.

Cydren’s Most exclusive and elite armed forces. Joining the Blitz Axt is an excruciating testing and augmentation period…the fatality rate is fifty nine percent and out of those who survive only two percent will ever earn their places in the Blitz Axt… the rest will become shock troopers. They are WMDs and are not to be taken lightly their bodies recover at rapid speeds recovering from concussive blasts that would kill most in minutes they are stronger and more agile then Shock Troopers as well as the most elite and renown group in Cydren. Many of them have severe mental trauma from their training and due to them being in charge of the hardest and most deadly assignment’s Cydren has. She walked up the spiraling metal staircase, perforated grey steel stained crimson in the center. Her shoulders felt heavy with guilt ten years of torment and hardship for some shoddy success with a bird… that was the best they had managed after all the lives that had been destroyed for this project. She sighed as she swiped her clearance card through the scanner and moved through the secure access door that separated the primary labs with the Floor 0, the door screeched open and once through the threshold they closed behind her with a noisy grinding noise. She moved down the large hallway passing by many of her subordinates. She walked past the armory, the Barracks, Cellblock F, E, D, C, B, A, she seemed a little off put by the thought of the hundreds of patients both new and old who resided inside the dark cells… why did the med labs have to have that screw up that left most of their stock mislabeled and requiring extensive reworking that left almost the entire security force with out the proper medicine… especially the Apathy Pill…

The Lights flickered momentarily before their light returned to the constant flow, she knew she had told maintenance to rewire those dam lights… it was hard enough to get around with out worrying about the lights dying out while your going down stairs or walking through crowded hallways… A cold shiver ran down her back when a scream echoed from the cell blocks one of pure agony and suffering… all she could do was move as fast as she could to the medical offices and await her dose… as well as fetch the colonel his. Though she could technically cut in line due to her command rank she preferred to allow a few men who came in after her to go ahead… whatever it took to delay having to back down into the hellish place called a laboratory.

As she was awaiting her turn everything turned a shade of red as the emergency lights began to spin to show security forces the alarm was about to sound… which the warning was thankful as the alarm itself was a ear splitting screech that could pierce sleep, headphones, and even the most advanced ear protective devices… at least they didn’t have to deal with the shock of surprise first though. Jamie looked around awaiting an announcement of what was going on but the loud speakers remained dead… gun fire could be heard below though… the sound of discharging rifles filled the air below until it suddenly… stopped.

“Everyone tactical positions on the laboratory door… I don’t want it opened for any reason… anyone that tries to get through must be killed… there is a very good chance of bio hazardous spread and we can not allow it to further encroach on the facilities. I need to ensure all subjects are accounted for as those stupid elecronic locks like to fail after a power surge.” She moved swiftly to Cell Block A as several other officers began to check the other Cell Blocks. “Everyone remain calm we have everything under control… but we will be performing a head count. Guards please make sure all subjects are in their proper cell.

Eric Vance

A. Cell block A. Eric sat in his cell as he always did, staring at the outside and the cameras; staring at whoever was staring at him. They were always watching him ever sense they arrested him. Blackmail, bribery, and accessing forbidden files. Those were his crimes, and so he was sent to the labs. The machine didn't stare though, it made him do so. Repetition upon repetition, always the same sets of sights, and always the same fear. The dogs, the carnage, and those faces always looking at him no matter where he went. It was never very bright in the cells, but it was always consistent, so when a flicker came everyone who was conscious noticed. Then there was the scream, it wasn't very rare while inside but those prone to such behavior were subdued and gagged out here. Eric's body shivered as his eyes went from side to side, looking for any sign of movement.

"A. Apple. Allen. Argus... Apple?" He needed to make sure he wasn't in the machine again, it was always a surprise while in there as well. "They took me here... sometime ago." Next came the red hue, and he furiously rubbed his eyes. This happened on occasion, someone was getting uppity with the doctors, It was the same when I strangled that one old man. but there was no voice over the loud speakers. He placed his feet on the cold floor and walked closer to the entrance to his cell. He fell backwards and landed on his right arm when the sound of guns was sounded through the hall. It was painful to move it after that, but he wasn't sure if it was serious or not. The guns stopped just as abruptly as they had started, and then it was quiet again, except for this scraping sound. It came from everywhere!

He sat up beside his bed and curled his knees up to his chest. "I'm in the machine right now, they're laughing at this, it's hilarious!" He was trying to address the sound he was hearing off somewhere in the red glow, until it just continued. "Go away!" The only response was that he could now hear a low growl. He had liked dogs before being taken here, now they liked to chase him everywhere. He once smiled at every dog he saw and had to resist petting those belonging to strangers. They took that from him.

He heard the sound of boots in the hallway. Thankfully it drowned out the scraping and the growl, but it could always end up worse in here. So he stared where he had before, looking for anyone to give him some sign of relief for a time. "He...hello?" He was impatient for a sign.

Seth Kesler

Seth couldn't help but think that this place was slowly draining him of all happiness, not that pay wasn't top of the notch and many of the people nice but it was the feel of the place. The constant security, the experiments which caused random cries of pain, one of which he had heard this morning, and of course the Apathy Pill that was standard issue in this place. It was like he was slowly becoming dull to all of the horrors that a research facility such as this one contained, that made his happiness seem less... Happy, almost like if you ate your favorite food every day, it would make it less special, probably after awhile it would just cease to excite and that was what he felt like. These pills they gave out didn't help either, if you took them nothing affected you, your family could be slaughtered in front of you or something horrible, such as the things that happened on a daily basis here, and you felt nothing, not sad nor happy, not frightened or affected in any way by the things that happened around them. A useful tool no doubt but one that Seth tried to avoid as best he could, today would be no exception.

He had already received his pill for the day and pocketed it, now he was just leaning against the wall and staring off into nothingness. He would be on duty soon, his gear and weapons already on his person as he waited for his shift. It wasn't like he had to do anything on a regular basis, in fact although risk was high in this facility being a CCTU meant he was only called in when things really needed to be handled with efficiency and the situation wasn't so severe that more heavy geared units needed to be called in. He didn't mind the job itself though, the hours were decent, the pay was well above generous, and he was well equipped. It did have its downsides though, for one he spent all day and night in this place, they lived on location and sometimes that could get to you with all of the things that went on around here and the very small amount of fun to be had, it also caused problems for him because he didn't get to see his family often and for the life of him finding a woman in this place was not an easy task and with them living here there wasn't much time to find one anywhere else either, especially not a stable one seeing as the classification of the work was ridiculous.

Seth was snapped back from his idle daydreaming by the red light began to envelope the room from the security lights. He cursed quietly under his breath as he awaited the ear splitting screech of the alarm and of course it came, causing his face to wince slightly as it hit him, because even though he knew it was coming it was never pleasant. He waited, yet nothing, no announcement of a recorded protocol measure or from a person. As if that weren't disconcerting enough gunfire began to echo from below but soon stopped, everything falling silent and with no announcement still Seth was becoming uncomfortable. His hand moved to his revolver but he didn't draw it, instead he looked around, wondering who the highest ranking officer was, he hoped to god it wasn't him because while he was a decent combat leader getting people organized was not his thing.

Thankfully seconds after the gunfire stopped a voice was heard with orders telling people to get to tactical positions on the laboratory door, it was Jamie Matris, a Lieutenant Colonel, not that he knew her personally, she was just a commanding officer, though he wouldn't mind getting to know her better. He stopped himself there, wrong time, wrong place... She was apparently going to check on the Cell Blocks and other officers seemed to be doing the same. "Looks like I am officially on duty..." he muttered to himself, as he smirked and moved towards the laboratory door, of course he thought about going to check the Cell Blocks as many of the officers had done but he wasn't that high a rank to begin with and he would rather be on the front lines if something tried to break through. He quickly reached the doors and took his position a relatively long distance away from the door, a bit back from even the rear line of men positioned to combat whatever, if anything, came their way. He pulled his Hyperion N79 off of his back and looked through the scope at the door, if something came through he was ready. He just hoped they wouldn't have to engage, not just because he didn't want someone to be hurt but because if something breached from that side of the door it meant that most likely many of the people inside would he dead already, especially if all the gunfire from the security teams had already been quelled. The thought was slightly disturbing, of course it kept him on edge and focused, he would do what he had to do.

Bright and painfull. "Thats easy , Fire. Duh." Attractive but scary. "One of the female gaurds...that captain lady. Whats her name Jelly?...No , Jam!" I dont think this works too well , you know all the answers. "Well yeah-" Nick gave a huff through his mask , coughing lightly as he sat up on his bed and peered out at the empty dark room "-I guess it -is- kind of hard to play guessing games with your own mind."

Cracking his neck to each side he leaned forward , resting his elbows on his knees as he sat there , looking outwards towards the security door between him and freedom. "We could probably open it , the door panels are pretty easy to lock and unlock." Then what? We magicly beat up the well armed gaurds and just go about our merry way? Nick gave a crackled sigh as he stood up , falling forward and catching himself with his hands "Not like we have any -other- plans."

Humming a broken tune as he started absent mindedly doing push ups he looked back at the door and shook his head "Alright , gaurd comes to check on us , we knock him out , steal his uniform and weapons and try to stealth our way out of here." Good plan , except you look like a piece of beef jerkey with out the mask and you would need a reason for the gaurds to come in the cell alone , unprotected and unsuspecting.

Sitting back on his bed and giving a huff Nick slammed a palm against the side of his head "You are such a -downer-." and then quickly whipping his head up at the roof as he saw the red lights turns on "Awww crap." shaking his head Nick quickly pushed his palms against his ears as the blaring of the warning siren and gunshots filled the tiny cell. After a moment it died down and Nick stood up , poking at his door before giving it a shove and watching it swing open slowly "So...I believe the power is on the fritz again.....Should...should we -leave-? The doors just....open." Sure , lets just walk out in our little white gown and get shot for trying to escape.

Nick sat back down on his bed , tkaing a deep breath of filtered air through his mask before scratching at his chin , his goggled eyes looking out at the open hall way as he just sat there and waited , arms still resting against his knees "You dont have to be sarcastic you know."

#, as written by Hydrall
Lein Reznoph

There wasn't much to do at Cryden in your off time, besides stew in your own thoughts or watch the experiments. There was a gym, and a few lounges that had televisions. Of course, the TVs only showed Cryden's approved channels, but for a bored soldier that didn't seem so bad.

This was why, when the alert came, the off-duty Lein Reznoph was not in a position to assist or help- He was busy watching the tube.

Lein was a big man, made bigger by the combat steroids and drugs pumped into his system. His face was covered in a patchwork of scars and old tattoos, and his eyes were, instead of normal, human ones, black lenses that covered the entire socket, almost like a pair of sunglasses attached to his face. They were slightly reflective, and showed nothing of his expression. The rest of him was clothed in the black, scaly exoskeleton used to connect with his Shock Armor. Stretched out on a couch, the first warning he'd gotten was the television switching to a black screen with the universal alert symbol-an exclamation point, in other words- in the center.

Lein picked himself up, raising one eyebrow. "Hah? What is this?"

The red lightning he hardly noticed- His eyes weren't too good with colors, sometimes. But the screech- HELLS, that noise...

Lein fell off the couch as he tried to stand up too fast, scrambling upright as the gunfire started. What is- Why is there shooting? Who has ruined my break?

The soldier, well aware of his vulnerability, glanced out into the hall. He was, unfortunately, far away from the barracks or the armory, unarmed and completely alone.

"Eh, hells," he grunted, glancing back at the TV. It remained on the alert symbol. There hadn't been anything good on anyways.

Leon consulted his mental map. The cellblocks were nearby, and there were sure to be guards there- But naturally the alert would be caused by a general revolt. He knew the armory was on the other side of the 'blocks, so getting there would be interesting. Might be better to just wait it out in the lounge.

Of course, he'd be screwed if they caught him there, and though Lein Reznoph was many things suicidal was not among them. He'd simply have to take a detour- either through the R&D or residential area.

Deciding that trespassing in the scientists' rooms was a better idea than going in there, he set out.

Mira Gray

Mira walked down the dim halls towards the medical office, she hated this place, it wasn't anything good, everything about it made her uneasy, from the dimly lit halls to what she knew was going on here. She was a Blitz Axt though and she was not supposed to show any weakness, that was exactly why she was going to get one of the Apathy Pills at the moment, not that she couldn't hide it well enough but she had some mental scars from all she had been through and sometimes she just had to take her dose. She didn't know if today would be one of those days but she would have the pill on her nonetheless. Of course it didn't help her that as she walked down the hall towards the medical office she heard a scream of agony from somewhere, though it happened so often even without the pill she didn't flinch any more, she didn't even turn her head, instead she continued walking and ignored it, seeing as it was an everyday occurrence. As she walked down the hall though the lights flickered above her and she had to keep herself from going for her gun, a trained reaction to any kind of movement, though most people would only look and not draw a weapon over it, her training had conditioned her otherwise though, always be ready to fight.

She soon arrived at the medical office, the people inside turning and looking, while Blitz Axt were only soldiers many people viewed them as some kind of god or monster, their skills in battle and the rarity of a person making it through the training made her different in their eyes. She didn't mind though, in fact even when people stared she just walked on by, not even bothering to look at them. This was not a special case, as people looked at her she just walked over and took the front of the line, grabbing the pill and pocketing it quickly, saving it for when she needed it, if she did, which could be any time, in fact when she was in training for the Blitz Axt many of them men she had met weren't able to handle it and took multiple of the small pills a day, being in a constant state of dulled senses. The training was tough though and although she didn't do or agree with such a thing she could see why they would do it. With the pill now obtained she looked around, there was nobody she knew, most of the people she had conversations with were Blitz Axt and the occasional Shock Trooper, though speaking with shock troopers was usually awkward whether she knew them or not seeing as they hadn't made it into the Blitz Axt. It didn't matter though, she was not here to socialize, she was here in case something serious happened, in fact because of what had happened at others sites security here had been increased more than ever.

Mira stopped in her tracks when she noticed the red light begin to tinge everything in its foreboding hue, her eyes narrowing as the screeching of the alarm began to sound and her hand immediately went and pulled the gun off of her back. She just waited though, an announcement with some sort of information on just what was going on should be echoing soon. That never came though, instead the sound of gunfire came from somewhere in the facility, more than likely below them from the sounds of it, though this place deceived the mind at times. Soon the firing stopped though, her ears listening intently for that announcement she still expected, saying everything was under control, maybe explaining what was happening but it never came, instead a female officer began shouting out for people to get to position and headed towards the Cell Blocks. The woman whom had issued the orders was a Lieutenant Colonel and was the highest rank she had seen around. That meant her word was law, at least until an announcement was made.

Mira didn't hesitate as she headed towards the laboratory door and noticed many of the men already in position, many of them too close for efficient firing if something were to burst through. She noticed one man a bit back, his Hyperion aimed steadily in the direction of the door, "That's the right idea..." she mumbled to herself before shouldering her own sub machine gun and pointing it in the direction of the door, if something came through she wanted to have room and distance enough to fire and be far enough away to make a steady retreat to the commanding officer, which as she had thought when she noticed the Lieutenant Colonel, she was it until Mira saw otherwise. Not that she believed others to be dead but no announcement was not a good thing, by any form of protocol there should have been one, especially after an alarm and apparent gunfire. If things went to shit, which was a constant worry because of here harsh training for her, she wanted to defend their CO and what better way to do that than being able to stay alive and be able to get back to her. Of course she didn't know anything yet, it was just how she was to think that the worst could happen and to be ready in case it did, and in this place the worst was unimaginable even for her and the training she went through to become what she was. She just hoped it wouldn't come to that, hoped it was just a minor problem, she was pretty sure that wasn't the case with all that was going on, needless to say it wasn't a good feeling...

Kim Stewart

Kim sat on her bench in cell block F as she always did. She never moved from that spot, not once unless tested on. Then they would drag her there, for she would go limp and refuse to move herself. She sat there, her legs dangling off the bench, her eyes staring mindlessly at the bars, lost in daydream. Like this, she never moved, there for, she never haft to worry about things reacting to her. If she stayed perfectly still, as if she was dead. She be safe, at least that is what she thought. She got good at it too, the guards would haft to check to see if she was alive time to time. They always have the entrance block, she never once thought of escaping when they checked her. In fact she would begin to hyperventilate if here cell was opened to long. Scared about what could get inside.

She sat there as always, thinking about sheep, so she go to sleep. Then, the lights went red. She snapped out of her daydream, tilting her head up only so little to see what was happening. Nothing. Her heart began to race, this never happened before, she though she had the pattern figured out. Then the alarm went off. She covered her ears as much as she could screaming at the top of her lungs hoping it would stop. Finally it did, she slowly took her hands off her ears, in hope, that the monster didn't have anything to do with this. She gripped her clothes, they were standard clothing for a subject. White, with the letter of what cell she lived in on the back. In the front close to the bottom of it, was small numbers. She never understood what they were there for. She then heard gunshots, once again she covered her ears and closed her eyes till they stopped. 'Maybe they killed it, it's dead now. Your safe.' she thought to herself.

With a sigh of relief, she hopped off her bench. Stood there for a moment, no sign of anything. Though, being on the bench for so long, she still felt like there was something wrong. She was out of place. It felt like her whole life was that bench, that monster, that machine. Now, there was red lights, high pitched noises, gunshots, and now she heard someones voice. It was not far down, the cell blocks, but either way she heard it clearly as if it was right next to her. She scrambled for to the bench, hopped back on it, holding her legs with her arms, shaking scared, staring outside her cell.

"Hello?" she mumbled quietly, in hope, that her guard would come and check on her, or anyone for that matter. She needed to know that voice was not who she thought it was. Finally, the door opened and the guards began to check the cells, she stared at the guard who only looked at her then turned away to another guard, who she could not see because of the cell walls. This guard was not the guard that checked her every once in a while, he was slimmer, and seemed on edge. She remembered the gunshots, there was in fact something wrong because the red lights still glowed. Her idea about the monster dead was wrong. She closed her eyes tightly and began to sit still on her bench, begging in her mind that things would go back to normal.

Argus Fletch

Argus had pocketed his apathy pill. He liked to save them for special occasions, like when the screaming was especially bad. Sure it meant he had to put up with actually caring about what went on in the facility, and that made him uncomfortable at the best of times, but he was a specialist in the CCTU. He was the Pointman, first man into any unknown situation. If he wanted to be comfortable, he wouldn't be in any form of military or paramilitary work, and he sure as hell would not be wearing this armor. But that was all fine, the discomfort kept him on edge, and that was how one stayed alive in combat. After fifteen years of assorted combat postings, Argus knew how to stay alive. He was in the armory cleaning his riot shotgun when he heard another horrible scream, not unusual here, and the red light went off. Here we go again, he thought to himself. As the earsplitting siren went off, he put the shotgun back together, and loaded an extra round in the chamber. Sure, some people complained that keeping a round in the chamber was unsafe, if he accidentally pulled the trigger without the safety he might kill someone. What a load of bull, every time he pulled the trigger he meant kill someone. Accidental discharges were rookie mistakes, and he was no rookie. One round meant the difference between life and death, this practice had saved his life and ended another's more than once. As he heard gunshots, the Lieutenant Colonel's voice echoed over the loudspeaker giving everyone orders to take up tactical positions around the laboratory. Show time. He grabbed his Smith and Wesson, holstered it and tucked the butt of his shotgun into his shoulder. He beat it double time to the lab door.

As Argus made his way to the lab, he couldn't help remembering his posting prior to the CCTU. When he was twenty seven, had been with the Cydren 501st security team for one year. His superiors noticed his astounding reflexes and combat skills and booted him up to CCTU school. At that time, the 501st had been slated for re-assignment to the mysterious "Project Black." There had been a hell of a going away party. Everyone was drinking and laughing and having a good time. He never saw any of them again. Not more than a few weeks ago, he got word that the Project Black site had been wiped out by some sort of accident, the 501st had been wiped out. That was when his CCTU team was sent to reinforce the Valens Project. Argus did not believe in coincidences, something far worse than a simple accident had happened at the Project Black site. As his mind came back to the present, he hoped the same thing was not about to happen here. One of his new superiors had recommended him for Blitz Axt training. Of course he had heard the stories, the mortality rates and such, but he still thought he had a good chance of making the cut. He didn't want to get wiped out by some "accident" before reaching this next pinnacle of fighting men. As he reached the lab door, he saw a number of security forces had taken up positions near the door. Fine with him, he would let them take the brunt of whatever made its way through that door. He took position in a doorway on the left side of the hallway between the front group of men and a CCTU lieutenant and... a female Blitz Axt? That's hardcore, he thought to himself, impressed despite the situation. He made sure he was out of their immediate line of fire, friendly fire was a hell of a way to go. He mounted his shot gun against his right shoulder, leaning slightly against the wall to his left and out into the hallway, exposing only the part of his frame necessary to fire at whatever might come through the door. "This one's for the five-oh-first," he muttered to himself.

Gabriel Daniels

Gabriel frowned under his white surgical mask as he stared down at his patient’s spine and carefully operated the clunky controls of the out-dated medical laser. He was in a small 6 by 6 foot sectioned off area of a storage room near the back of the Medical Office, the only thing separating his operating “room” from the shelves of drugs being a few curtains. As he worked efficiently as he could, he noticed the sirens and red lights. Never dreaming of stopping an operation until it was finished, he continued unaffected and after the siren stopped he put it out of his mind. The higher ups had said that a more permanent operating facility was being set up somewhere else in the facility, but that had been quite a while ago.

He should be sitting in a separate viewing room, looking at the site of incision through high-definition monitors from at least five different angles and operating with state of the art robotic medical technology. Right now all he had was a poor excuse for a sterile environment, a shoddy and decrepit looking surgical laser, a few flood lights, an IV drip, and an old EKG. Christ, not only did he not have any assistants, he had even used a scalpel for the initial incision. A fucking scalpel! He couldn’t even remember the last time he had even seen someone use a scalpel. Those cold hearted bastards were probably perfectly content with a success rate in the upper seventies, especially if it meant that they didn’t have to shell out the extra cash.

Most of what he saw was a sort of paralysis, something about what they were doing to these people messed with their nervous system and it always occurred in the same place near the top of the spinal column. The synapses that transmitted motor commands were overloaded in that area, which Gabriel treated by splicing in new connections around or through affected nervous tissue. Though it was not the most elegant way of fixing the problem, but he doubted that Cydren would be up for buying graft-able nervous tissue for their subjects. However, every once and a while they brought in some vegetable that Gabriel had no hope of treating with the available equipment. So every time one was brought in he cursed himself for his inability.

When he had finished the procedure and had made sure the patient was stabilized, he stood back, disposed of his gloves and mask, then removed his medical jacket. Looking down at the sleeping man, he wondered what good he was doing him. Sure, he had momentarily saved the man’s life, but only so that he could be carted back for more experiments. “What a weak piece of work am I.” he muttered to himself as he felt the creeping depression of his inability sink back in.

Instinctively his right hand went to his shirt pocket as he whipped out his Zippo, but he found nothing and sighed. That was right, he decided to leave his cigarettes outside. He could not allow himself, even in this shitty setup, to smoke in the same room as a patient. As he stuffed the lighter back into his pocket, he walked through the curtains and into the main room. As he made his way through the storage room he passed quite a few shelves. Boxes upon boxes of drugs littered the shelves and the room was kept a relatively cool temperature.

As Gabriel reached the door he found a box lying in the floor with the lid open and little bottles spread across the floor. It must have been knocked off when those grunts had wheeled in his patient. As he cleared up the mess he noticed the little bottles were labeled AP. “Apathy pills.” he muttered , he abandoned his attempt at civilized cleanup to simply throw the box out of the way. Gabriel loathed the little wonder drug, he would never let himself discard his humanity.

Stepping out into the main section of the Medical Office, Gabriel retrieved his pack of cigarettes from the small table that stood next to the entrance to the storage room. Taking one out, he stuffed the pack back into his button up shirt’s pocket and lit the cigarette he now held in his mouth. After taking a few breaths of the smoke he looked around the Office. Gabriel frowned. Usually there was at least one of the resident pharmacists or a researcher hanging out in here even on off hours, as a lounge full of grunts didn’t do much for them. However right now, something was wrong, from what he could tell the Office was empty except for himself.

Quickly remembering the red alert, he went over the events following it. As he put his lighter back into his pocket, he realized that there had not been a follow up statement. “Must’ve gone to see what the commotion was about.” he guessed as he sat down in a chair that stood with the table next to the door to the storage room. Resting his elbow in the small table, Gabriel calmly proceeded to finish his smoke break.

As the soldiers took position the door trembled as something smashed into it. “Everyone take aim!” One of the officers shouted. The door quaked again several bolts buckled before flying off. A third hit issued caused the metal to buckle and with the fourth strike on the door shattered the hinges and set the metal door hurtling into the armed crowd. A large ‘man’ stepped forward his flesh burned until pitch black… every movement caused his bare flesh to ripple with powerful muscles and his head was absent only a column of black mist and a orb of pure shadows. The hallway seemed to freeze over with fear as it moved slowly across the floor before standing in front of one of the shock troopers. “ Eric Valdin…” The words came from no where and yet echoed from every orifice of the wall. “You have denied your true nature… hide away your crimes. Rape… Murder… Brutalize and Tormenting your kindred.” Everyone behind the Shock Trooper was sprayed with blood as the blackened flesh pierced his armor and body. “Your Death is assured…” The Creature lifted the massive man into the air with his single arm. The creature hurled the now lifeless form into the crowd as bullets and bolts of energy filled the air but creature seemed relatively unaffected.

From behind the creature flowed a mass of black cloaked figures that began to cover the floor in front of the door as they met with the hail of fire until most of the soldiers had to reload… it was now that the nightmares began to overrun the white uniformed security forces in a wave of pitch blackness.

Jamie heard the radio chatter that spelled the demise of many of her men. “Release the patients…” She said calmly if anything they might buy enough time to save her own soldier’s lives and maybe some of the patients would survive too. With her order all the Cells slid open allowing the patients to go out. “Remain calm and prepare to evacuate. “

Argus Fletch

As some unseen force smashed against the door repeatedly, Argus knew this was going to get ugly. The door was actually bending towards them. Nothing was that strong, it was impossible, there was no way that door could bend like that. Then it was smashed off its hinges, crushing several security guards in the process. But then some thing stepped through the door. "What the hell..." Argus muttered under his breath. Nobody moved, no one knew how to react to this dark warrior. It spouted off some sort of judgement about the shocktrooper Erick Vance before impaling him with its arm and throwing all two tons of shocktrooper and crushing another group of guards. That was when Argus knew the situation was way past ugly. As people started shooting, the creature seeming unconcerned by the shots, a mass of black cloaked flying things that matched what he had always thought wraiths would look like came flooding through the door. The bullets seemed to work on the wraith things, but they just kept coming and coming. Yea, this situation passed ugly way back, they were square in the middle of fuckville now. The way everyone had backed off from the door, they were blocking him from even taking a shot at these things, not that it mattered, two clips wouldn't quell the tide here. Everything about this situation was untenable, time to fall back. He made sure he wasn't in the line of fire and took off from the doorway, heading towards the cell block area. He saw a number of soldiers ahead of him, they needed to fall back and set up a more solid defensive perimeter. He heard Lieutenant Colonel Jamie order the cells opened and to prepare for evacuation. Prisoners started trickling out into the hallway, and Argus started beating his way through them. This was not good at all. Time to meet up with the LC and get defenses set up.

Seth Kesler

Seth's hands were steady and both eyes open, one looking into the scope and the other watching the others around him as they all just stood, ready for whatever was to come their way, or so they thought. A loud resounding thud echoed as the door was apparently being assaulted from the other side, his first though that nothing was getting through there with brute force. Of course as the order came to aim he just stayed as he was, already prepared to fire as whatever presented itself. Then came the next two hits, bolts flying off and the door bending in their direction, that was when he wondered if they really were ready for what was coming through that door, he remained calm though, in his opinion panicking was useless, no matter what the situation it didn't help, though sometimes it was hard to put that belief to practice. Finally a third hit came and the door flew inwards and a large 'man' stepped inside and walked over to a shock trooper, firstly calling him by his name followed by “You have denied your true nature… hide away your crimes. Rape… Murder… Brutalize and Tormenting your kindred.” Seth couldn't help but wonder how his name and these apparent crimes were known but as he watched as flesh went through the shock troopers heavy armor and killed him instantly, followed by the man being thrown into the crowd with apparent ease. Seth was taken aback, as were a few near the man who had died, now covered in the blood of their comrade, and probably wishing they had taken the apathy pill about now. Even more horrifying was the fact that when the bullets began to fly the creature didn't even budge, little effect from the usually deadly weapons and that gave Seth pause, what the hell was he supposed to do if all of the other soldiers ahead couldn't do anything?

That wasn't the end of it though, creatures of some sort, like nothing Seth had ever seen, began to flood in the area, overrunning the security like they were nothing. Luckily he was snapped out of his confusion by their Lieutenant Colonel as she issued the release of the prisoners and the evacuation of the base. Argus, a point man from the CCTU he had spoken two once or twice before turned and took off and Seth had to agree that was a good idea, turning as well and following the man, though taking a different approach and weaving in between those in his way, while Argus just pushed through. Of course it didn't matter, they were both headed the same way and both making it there. He had to get to the commanding officer, see just what the hell was going on and what the counter plan was for whatever it was still happening behind him, he for one wasn't about to turn around and look just yet. He just hoped when he reached the Lieutenant Colonel and whoever else was with her that they had some ideas about what to do next, because he for one had no idea what to do, his mind racing but no answers coming to mind, the only thing he could think of right now was survival and first step in that plan was to regroup with her and whoever else was fortunate enough to escape the massacre, or what he assumed to be one, behind him.

Mira Gray

Mira didn't quite know what was on the other side of that door, though knowing this place it wasn't anything pretty, they didn't have so much security for nothing and they most certainly wouldn't delay an announcement in this situation, her mind still focused on the lack of knowledge they had about what was going on. A sound at the huge metal door told her whatever it was would be coming soon though and she for one was going to be ready for it, or at least ready for whatever happened. As another few hits sounded at the door she adjusted her gun on her shoulder and waited, a smirk on her face as she could feel a disturbing level of excitement from all of this, the suspense killing her. She didn't wait long as, for a fourth time the door was hit, only this time it shot off its hinges into the crowd of people laying in wait. Nobody moved though, their training telling them to remain motionless and stay prepared. None of them could have been prepared for what walked through that door though, a large muscular humanoid came through, speaking the name of a shock trooper. She was confused about how it knew his name but more surprised when the heavy armor of the shock trooper was pierced like butter with the blackened flesh, leaving the man dead. As he was thrown into the crowd people started shooting, knowing that this was surely no mere man and that it certainly meant them hard. Mira was conservative though, watching as the bullets seemed to do nothing to the creature and she had serious doubts that she would fare much better even with her superior firepower. She waited though, wanting to see what happened, but what came next just increased her doubts of this being an easily resolvable situation as creatures poured out from the doors and began to overwhelm the defending troops.

Soon she heard the voice of the CO again and she listened deciding to make her decision based upon what was said, of course when she heard the patients were to be released she knew what to do, retreat. There was no point in sticking around when an obvious distraction had just been made for all of them, who would find themselves in horrible situations if they stuck around, sharing the fate of those who had already fallen to these... Monstrosities. Mira turned around, watching as the two CCTU men next to her turned and left as well, she smirked, "Smart decision..." she muttered to herself, following them but quickly passing them up as she moved almost effortlessly through the crowd of patients filling the halls. She made her way to the CO, she would make sure that woman was kept safe as well as to get further instructions, because while she was a damn good soldier she was not a commander and she had no idea how to be one. She just hoped that the CO was still in cell block A or out in the open near that area, if not it would suck having to find her with all of the chaos that was going on around her.

Kim Stewart

As the cell doors opened Kim jump a little. She got off the bench knowing that she was no longer safe in the cell. The two guards turned there back on her, focusing on the gun shots coming from the hallway close to cell block A and B. The other cellmate began to run for the hallway only to be swarmed by the black clocked monsters that flooded in the cell block. Kim ran out of her cell, staying behind the two guards as they soon took out there EVO 2000s and began to fire at the cloaked monsters. Kim began to scream as she backed up to the wall only able to watch as the cloaked monsters were killed while the others began to rip apart the unarmed subjects. She was lucky; her cell was at the very end. Well in her mind she was unlucky for she was the last to go.

The cloaked monsters then swooped after the two guards and Kim. The guard on the left, reloading his weapon yelled out, "There coming man there coming!" The one on the right just running out on his clip threw down his weapon and ran into Kim's cell screaming, "Fuck it! Were fucked! Run man!"

Kim sat in the corner covering her body the best she could as the swarm of dark cloaked monsters grabbed the guard's arms and legs digging there claws into him and began to pull. The guard screamed dropping his weapon as some more scratched at his body ripping though his armor. Finally the monsters managed to rip his limbs apart tossing them in the air. Blood smeared on the ground and the walls, some landing at Kim's feet. She screamed as loud as she could see the awful sight, her mind forever remembering the sight.

The monsters turned to her only to be shot at by the guard who had corners himself in her cell. he had nothing more but his handgun, he knew he was done. They ignored Kim and swarmed in after the guard giving Kim her chance to run. She got up stepping on the dead guards body only to hear the other guard scram in pain. No doubt dead. She ran though the crowed of subjects being torn and ripped at by the monsters. Being the smallest one there, most of the monster didn't notice her and the once who did were to busy ripping at there prey. She got out to the hallway, her mind boggled and her breathing out of control. She turned to her right, seeing the back of a large man with out a head only blackness. Then turned to her left, seeing the door closest to her. She ran to the door only to smash into it in a hurry. She found herself falling backwards to the ground dazed a bit.

She quickly sat up, her face in pain as she began to tear up. She leaned on the hallway wall, staring down as the Black coated monsters continued to swarm the cell blocks and the hallway down. She looked to her left, a dead guard, his armor torn open and scratches coated in red were all over his body. His helmet was still on but it was clear he was dead. She looked in his hand of an odd stick buzzing in electricity at one end. It stressed her, her mind begging her to find something to protect herself, anything to make her breathing go down. She took the thin metal baton from the lifeless body, stood up and stared down the hallway thinking where to run to next, tears running down her eyes, she wiped them away.

Eric Vance

When the cell door opened, he was expecting the guards to come in and take him away somewhere, again. What he got could arguably be worse, the guards were focused on fending off a swarm of dark cloaks ripping them apart. "Fall back, I'll cover yo-" Eric, hid near the doorway and waited until he began hearing other people screaming, most likely under the claws of the shades. When he heard that he assumed that he would be able to avoid any threat by simply moving behind people. He peered around the doorway to see the shadows swooping around and tearing people apart. They always took me right. Doctors are to the right. Go left. He looked in the other direction and saw that there were at least less of the monsters and more amble bodies. "Spin the top."

He quickly weaved through the crowd with the occasional, hard bump from a larger patient or from one who was understandably scared beyond belief. He moved toward what he thought would be the exit, only to continue to find more of these shadows and now a man whose head was covered in darkness. Amongst the bodies of the dead and still dying were a few guards here and there, in the loosening grip of one he found one of their batons, which kind he didn't know but it didn't necessarily matter at this point. What he chose was maybe two or three feet long and rather heavy set for its size, but it was very helpful for pushing through other patients in his hope to reach one of the open cells. At this point and in such confusion, Eric had no idea if he was still even going in his original direction.

Inside the cell were the bodies of a patient and a guard, who unfortunately had no weapons on him. At least there was nothing else in there and so he waited by the doorway as he had done at the beginning. It looked like the exit was right there, not fifteen feet from him, but at this moment it was blocked by the heavily muscled body without a face and the outward attacks of cloaked monsters. Prisoners tried getting out through there anyway, only to be thrown aside with enough force to shatter their bones or simple run through with the bodies powerful hands. He had no chance of getting through at this point. "The top won't stop."

Gabriel Daniels

Before Gabriel could get halfway through his cigarette, he thought he heard a raucous mix of gunfire and shouting in the distance. Taking the cigarette from his mouth, he raised an eyebrow in surprise as he listened closer to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. As his ears reconfirmed the noise he sighed slightly, stuffing the unfinished cigarette into the ash tray on the table. As he stood up from the chair, his mind worked quickly on how to respond to the new occurrence.

Gabriel knew that something was defiantly wrong, the gunshots in the distance coupled with the unanswered red alert earlier were definite proof of that. The question was, what was going wrong? Perhaps the government had finally found out what Cydren was dong here, and they were busting up the party. No, he noted that the battle sounds were not coming from the entrance. If the government was trying to take the facility, then they would be coming from the stairs. The noises were coming from direction of the cell blocks. Perhaps some of subjects had broken out and were rioting.

Well whatever was going on, Gabriel still had a patient in the other room so he had to stay in Medical Office. However, he had to stay proactive. Even if the subjects were rioting, many of them had violent tendencies due to the experimentation and they could be a danger to both his patient and himself. Also, many of the Cydren grunts where sadistic bustards and might just kill him for fun in the confusion. If he wanted to hold down the Medical Office, his best chance was to surprise or bluff off any attackers.

By the time Gabriel was fully on his feet he had developed a makeshift plan. Moving quickly, he reentered the storage room and grabbed a two of the five flood lights that were illuminating his work area. Before he left, he stuffed a scalpel into his pocket. Taking the two lights back to the main section of the office, he pointed them at the top half of the door and turned them on. He then positioned a chair so that the back was lying a few in front of the entrance to the office. Finally, he turned off the regular lighting and the room went black except for the flood lights and crouched off to the side of the room. Anyone who entered would have a hard time seeing anything but the blinding flood lights in contrast to the dark room.

If the door opened, he would yell “Hold your fire!” while facing to the back of the room. Then he immediately follow it up with “Don’t move!” towards the door. Hopefully, this would give the illusion that there was more than one individual in the room and they all had firearms trained on the door. If they stopped he would get a good look at them in the flood lights and respond according. If the intruder called the bluff and kept advancing, they would most likely trip over the chair and Gabriel would have the element of surprise. Gabriel pulled out the scalpel from his pocket and held it firmly in his right hand, readying himself as the noises of battle drew closer.

We should go , right now Nick. RIGHT. NOW. Nick shook his head and looked out at the hallway as he heared the buzz and clicks. The unmistakable sound of -all- the patient doors opening at once "What? Why!? They're letting us -out-! No more machine , no more strapped chairs , no more running from living fire!" Why would they let us out Nick? We want to kill them all , we would give anything to gut just one gaurd and they are LETTING US ALL GO!?

Nick shook his head again and got up , running in too the hall and looking around. He was in probably the only cell section that had not been hit yet , unaware patients were wandering the hall. Some mad and attacking others , some rambling to themselves and some still sane enough to start moving for the exit. "BIohazard , electrical intefierence , station wide fire?" These people make us get ripped apart by fire every day , you really think they would let us out just because we're in -danger-? Nick ran down the hall , his steps were heavy and he was shoving his way through , trying to get ahead of the pack.

"Okay , so what? Whats happened?" Something bad , they think we're more value free then locked up....distractions maby? The base could be under attack. "Who would be stupid enough to -attack- this place!?" Nick froze in his steps , sliding a couple feet as his shoeless feet slid across a crimson slick surface. His glassed over eyes froze on a torn apart body , no that wasn't it. Why would he stop for a body? Pointless. It was the thing on top of it , black , figureless...almost beautifull in a wierd way.

As it screeched at Nick he panicked , grabbing a near by rambling patient and throwing him at it instead "We're hallucinating right!?" Nick- "I mean , those things can't ACTUALLY exist! The machine just puts them in our head!" NICK- "Jesus , It's -eating- him." NICK , GRAB THE GUYS BELT AND RUN! Nick finnaly snapped out of his stupor , grabbing the dead gaurds utility belt and pulling it away from the mangled corpse before he ran again. The pistol was missing but the extra clip was there , baton , few ripped open pockets and a empty one. Maby something else , small , medicine maby? No time to check.

Nick ran down the hall in a huff , clipping the belt over his white patient grade pants and only stopping when he saw Jamie. Slamming a blood splattered hand on a wall near her and leaning over , breathing deeply. Taking a few deep breaths before looking up at her , his mask made his face distorted but it was clear he was staring at her with something resembling rage , the fact that his burns made him almost look like something monsterouse just made it worse "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU GUYS DO!?" Nice Nick. Maby we should yell at every gaurd- "Shut up! This isin't the time for jokes! Jesus , I just saw a gaurd getting ripped apart by a -shadow-." Nick breathed in deeply again , tracing his hand along the wall and rubbing the blood further in to the metal panels that were cold to the touch "Uhg....what do you want us to do?"

“Alright everyone move to towards the stairs up… if we don’t get off this level soon the Hephaestus will be burning us to a crisp!” Jamie called as she started to move towards the stairs that lead to the upper floor. Though as many patients started up the cloaked figures began to grabbed at them and drag them towards the origin point… the laboratory. Though now their were bigger problems then just phantom like creatures… now one could see the burnt fleshed dogs with burning salvia taking down their prey with expertise those running beside their victims would never notice their friends slowly vanishing until they too vanished onto the body paved floor. Several four armed beasts rose behind the black fleshed humanoid. Their bodies made of bone with an aura that slowly infiltrated the lungs and made breathing harder… and harder… until it was impossible to breathe at all

As these monstrosities came forward along with the black fleshed one the four were consumed by a brilliant light while the Denial staggered back its‘ body covered in oily black ichor. “Everyone move your asses… your not on Holiday! I want to see some hustle retreat was sounded for Pete’s sake!” Luscious Herald Fromme Von Prutz shouted ejecting the spent cartridge from his Zone Type 200. Once he placed it calmly on his shoulder her drew a plasma edged combat knife in each hand and cut down the tattered cloaked monsters as they flew by. “Frederick get those turrets online! We won’t make it down the hall with this many bastards.”

“Arschloch! I am going as fast as I can… their aim radicals were verdorben auf den kern.” Frederick shouted back in a mix of English and German. “Wir sind so Verschraubt!” he hit the consol before typing out several strings of coding. “There! The containment filled is up… best I can do because of that power surge.” The sound of the field sounded at the mouth of the laboratory stairs which followed by the sound of sizzling as something collided with it. “Jetzt laufen! Das wird nicht ewig halten.” With that the scientist was off as his brother covered the rear with an ECR 42 he had grabbed off the body of a dead security agent.

“If your still alive follow the Lieutenant Corporal… well if your alive and wish to continue to be so!” Luscious shouted now that Jamie was at the stairs up it was about time he started falling back as well.

As Jamie reached the stairs she did not go up them, rather she took out her ID card and approached a fire alarm switch. She slid the card through a crease and soon the wall slid open. “Their will be a welcoming party just like ours on that staircase… we have a chance if we take the maintenance shafts… they are dangerous but no more so then a wall of Cydren soldiers are.” She started to make her way down the hall… she had been through her once… which was more then anyone else had. Only officers and engineer drones had access… and only the top five in command knew about it… she sure hoped the engineering and security officers were alright. With their help this out break might be contained.

Lein Reznoph

The shooting had gone from organized volleys to scattered echoes in only a few minutes. Whoever was attacking was doing one hell of a job. Lein kept to side corridors whenever he could, but he knew eventually he'd have to enter the main one.

Every so often he'd hear shouts and screams, but none of them seemed nearby ever. In fact, the whole place seemed empty. Every time he heard gunshots he ducked into a cranny or pressed against the wall, but no expected bullets came his way... Nor, he was beginning to realize, was there any answering fire. Plenty of people were shooting, but no one was shooting back. Maybe he was too used to the detached computerized interface of his armor.

Pft. Yeah, and maybe he was a fish. Someone was winning and not letting anyone return fire. If the guards were the ones shooting, then the prisoners must have been slaughtered already, or at least beaten badly. But if the prisoners had taken the armory...

No time for that. Lein would have to-

A trooper came backing into his hallway from a side passage, and he reached instinctively for a handgun that wasn't there. She had her riot shotgun trained at something farther down the corridor she'd arrived from, and was mouthing words without saying anything. Tears streaked her face and her eyes darted around, looking at nothing. Reznoph was reminded of a rabbit he'd once seen while scavenging for food, half-mad with fear and paranoia and jumping at everything. He kept silent, hoping she wouldn't turn that gun on him.

Something slamming against a wall or floor nearby, clattering like a dropped fork. The trooper howled like an injured animal and pumped the trigger furiously. The shotgun fired once, but in her terror she forgot to pump it again for the second shot. Something furred and armored came charging out of the turn and Reznoph caught a glimpse of a horned helmet. The creature slammed her against the wall. Reznoph remained silent and watching as it lifted her up with one hand and chopped her in half at the waist with a massive hunk of scrap metal that could charitably be called a sword.

Then it turned to face him. Reznoph steeled himself, but he felt sweat on his brow. Whatever now faced him looked human- How could it not? There wasn't anything else. But it wore a helmet of bones and chitin that even in the harsh lighting of the hallways obscured its face save for two burning orange eyes. Its arms were oversized and long, the muscles on them flexing as it lifted the enormous blade.

Reznoph was a Shock Trooper. He'd been on steroids and stims his entire career here, and would have comfortably outsized most professional football players by a long shot. He could tear trees out of the ground if he had a good start at it.

This thing made him feel like a midget, puny, weak. Reznoph felt a flare of anger, but it was extinguished by the size of the thing. He wasn't even armed. How...

The trooper's riot shotgun lay discarded on the floor.

Lein looked down at it, then back up at the monster. As it began to slowly step his way, he charged. He was counting on the narrower corridor to prevent it from hitting him, but it didn't seem to have gotten the memo. With a tremendous sound of tearing, screeching metal the blade or the strength behind it tore straight through the wall. He dove, rolling under the sword and past the creature, came up running to dive again for the shotgun. While the monster ponderously turned to face him, he raised it, pumped, and fired. The bullet sparked briefly on the armor and hit a wall somewhere nearby. He tried again, but the gun refused to fire. Jammed, maybe, or out of ammo after whatever running fight had brought it here.

"Aw, son of a bi-"

Lein was able to roll as the sword came down, but the force of the blow tore the floor and roof below. It collapsed, sending Reznoph falling. He struck hard concrete and felt blood fill his mouth from the impact while his vision erupted in stars.

Overhead, the Consuming Doubt looked down. Its head tilted to one side as it regarded the fallen Shock Trooper. Then it turned away and moved farther into the hall, towards whatever it could find.

Its victim lay on hard concrete, blurrily trying to think and failing. He knew that below was... What was below? Cells, right? He was in the cellblocks? Or maybe the labs. He couldn't be sure.

Reznoph risked speech. "Is anyone there?" he rasped, wishing it was lighter. He hated the dark.

Kim Stewart

Kim stood in the corner now holding onto her only protection, the stun baton from the dead soldier's corpse. She began to wonder where his gun may of been, seeing as all the guards down here usually had a side arm and a rife of some sort. Only able to glimpse at there weapons from her time in the cell, and a few times when she was dragged for testing, she only thought it was pulling the trigger. Seeing on how those two guard only killed a few before being ripped to shreds she was doubtful about the guns and more secure that she had the sparking stick of light.

She stayed in the corner as a few soldiers ran past her opening the door she had slammed into and running into two other doors one going upstairs. She knew this was her chance, hesitant, she just about went though the open door till the lights went out. Dark... It got silent, she saw that it was only the cell blocks and the hallway that the lights went out. Still... Her heart raced, her eyes darting around to the sounds of things moving. She saw a spark from the baton giving her a small flash of light to see. She began to cry, "Please... Please light. No more dark..."

She gripped the baton and shook it making more sparks. It was like a camera with a small flash. Seeing only images of the hallway. She heard more screams down the hall that still had light and the sound of beasts, not like the the other monsters she saw. The image reappeared in her mind of the guard being ripped apart and scratched at. She whimpered and whined, swinging the baton like a torch to gain more flashes of small light. Soon she was there in the dark, in silence, her fears rising of what could see her and she could not. Then she heard a loud smash and a thump by the near cell block, she screamed swinging the baton only noticing tiny rocks of cement rolling into the hall. Hearing a voice saying, "Is anyone there?" She gulped slowly tiptoeing, one hand on the wall till she felt the entrance to the cell bock. She shivered, wiping more tears from her eyes.

She then jumped out swinging the baton as hard as she could making a large spark burst out and seeing the large suit of armor to the side and big soldier noting she had ever seen before. Not as scary as the monster but all the same, him lying there, she felt nervous but a little less off edge. Seeing the big hole in the ceiling letting more light threw than the hallway, she was attracted to it like a moth and stepped closer towards the shock trooper. She replied to him saying, "M... Me... I- I'm here."

Lein Reznoph

Lein felt his head pounding as he tried to sit up. He raised a hand to check his head for injuries, and felt slick blood in his hair. Ow. If he'd had his armor on, the fall'd have been harmless... Of course, if he'd had his armor on he probably could have arm wrestled that monster to death.

He remembered how its sword, despite looking like a blunt piece of scrap metal, had torn straight through the wall. Hm. Maybe not that. But as soon as I can, that bastard had better watch out. He's got balls, going in against armed guards with a sword. Already he was forgetting how inhuman the thing had been, replacing it with comforting, logical thought. It must have been some subject, that's all, probably given some kind of crazy combat drug or power armor. Dumbass eggheads, they'd do it, too.

"M... Me... I- I'm here."

The Shock Trooper turned his head and stared. He'd been prepared for raging subjects, insane scientists, horrible lab experiments gone wrong, even his own comrades opening fire on him... But the sight of a little girl in a white dress carrying a stun baton threw him for a loop. How could someone respond to that?

"Er..." He shook his head, feeling his brain rattle. This was impossible. Obviously he'd accidentally OD'd on stims or something. Obviously.

Except that the stims were made and distributed so you couldn't overdose unless they wanted you to, and Reznoph couldn't recall stealing any extras recently. Darn.

"You... You're one of the subbies, aren't you?" he asked, finally pulling himself upright in a seated position while watching the stun baton warily. "Do you have any idea what the hell's going on?"

Kim Stewart

Kim stood the nervous of the large man as he got up to sitting position and began to speak. She thought of the situation logically. he was hurt, she had a weapon, easily taken care of. On the other hand, monster almost as scary as hers roaming stronger than them both... She needed him. She gripped the stun baton and took a step back so she had time to evade in case her attacked.

"Monsters... There, killing, ones in black with claws... And I think I heard a doggy too." she replied as the baton crackled.

Her fear of the unknown was set aside in determination of protection from this man. She also did not know the way around the place so he was in fact her life line. He seemed to be off guard by here presence, calling her a subbies. She pondered the slang word. Subject. Yes, she was, it offended her a little. Little time to have feelings hurt though. So she turned around to show her letter of the cell block on the back of her shirt. She could not remember what cell block they were in now. It was silent, very little gunshots left, the monsters were winning.

She shivered turning back around, "Are... you all right?" she asked still keeping her self at the ready, her fear increasing as well as her blood pressure.

Lein Reznoph

"Monsters... There, killing, ones in black with claws... And I think I heard a doggy too."

There went any hope for a normal explanation. If the girl was serious, then the monster Lein had seen was probably not the only one. But how did all this even happen?

The Shock Trooper forced his eyes to focus, catching sight of the letter. Cellblock F? Isn't that where the nutters go? I never learned the system... That would have been useful information now.

The girl then asking if he was alright once again seemed oddly surprising. "Alright." He chuckled and looked her way. The slabs of black metal that made up his eyes glinted. "Been better, but I've had worse."

To Lein's artificial eyes, the world was a lot less colorful. To get the kind of vision a human actually had, they processed a combination of sound and visual data, like a bat what got glasses. The result was a world that looked like it had a mesh draped over it and colored in. They focused on whatever he was focusing on, and could interface with his power armor to make things easier. He preferred it to nothing, and they were superior in some areas. he never got eyestrain, he never had to blink, and they could track motion and such as well as a computer. This did mean he could see a little in the dark, a vague impression of walls and corners.

He checked his head again. Bleeding had stopped, good. Hopefully he didn't have a concussion or something.

"You're lucky you found me instead of some security or something. If I can make it to the armory, I've got a Power Armor set in there that'd make leaving a breeze." Not that intended on helping a subbie, of course. If she happened to tag along, that was her luck. And he needed that stun baton. More importantly, he would prefer it in his own hands as opposed to hers. "But at the moment I'm unarmed." After a moment of hesitation he continued. "Give me the stun baton, and I'll help you reach safety."

Kim Stewart

"You're lucky you found me instead of some security or something. If I can make it to the armory, I've got a Power Armor set in there that'd make leaving a breeze."

Kim smiled at his words for once feeling a little more relieved out of this whole survival situation. Power armor with a big guy like him, and the little side kick, they be unstoppable! Kim pictured the fantasy in her head and sighed. She was beginning to think things were getting a bit better for her. After all, living in a cell, then monsters, and now a big guy that matched Kim in height just when he was sitting down and her standing up. She was just abut to ask where the armory may be until he said.

"But at the moment I'm unarmed."

She just wanted to flat out scream, but instead she stood the clenching the baton and her free hand knowing what he meant. She gave him a dirty look as he continued.

"Give me the stun baton, and I'll help you reach safety."

She was fallen a pon a chose, give him her only weapon, her only source of light... 'No... The dark, it has the monster... He's waiting...' she thought hearing sudden monstrous breathing from behind her. The sound she heard the first time in the machine, when every dark thought swarmed inside her innocence and dragged it and tore it in haft. She stood completely still, like she did in the cell. Dead still, her eyes going in a day dream, and she stared right at the man's eyes. It felt long and nearly endless that the breathing of the monster, hidden in darkness, waiting for her to move, finally her fear died down, it left her. She gasped out falling to her knees and dropping the baton, rolling to the man.

She whined out, "Please... Just don't leave me alone... You can have it, I'll be good, just don't leave me alone..."

Her mind began to return to a logical state, her only fear was being left alone. The monster, she had hallucinated with the large breathing as if it was behind her, lurking... It was all too real to her. Yet nothing was there that whole time, just dead silence. Nutters... Would in fact describe cell block F. They all saw there version of evil, fear, doubt, and it stayed with them, as a reminded that there life would always be suffering. She was completely unaware whether the man could hear the breathing. Being that it was in her head, well, her only plea could get difficult.

"Don't let it get me..." she mumbled.

Lein Reznoph

Lein watched as the little girl seemed to collapse at his words, sobbing about something out to get her and begging him not to leave her. It unnerved him- Reminded him too much of scared rabbits. He was an old dog, and he'd hunted rabbits long enough to know when one was, metaphorically, off their marbles.

And then, at the edge of hearing despite never passing his ears, he thought he could hear the sound of ragged, monstrous breathing. But he didn't want to think about that.

The hell's down here? Is there some kind of boogeyman in these halls?

He reached down and took the baton, frowning at the sparking light it gave off. It's damaged, I bet. Only good as a flashlight now, probably. Better than nothing, he supposed.

"I don't like the dark any more than you do, kid," he said, "And I owe you for the baton. I won't leave you behind if you can keep up." The soldier fell silent, not usually one to speak for long. Armory's... Damn, where is it? He looked up and down the corridor- His fall had blocked the path behind, as the collapsing floor had broken up. No way of getting through that. Upwards, save for the occasional flickering light, it was dark. The silence only occasionally broke with a clatter, scream or shot.

I could try to pull the debris aside, but anything could catch us then... Reznoph tried to call to mind a map of the cellblock level- You could get to the armory via the medical labs, right?

He strongly suspected the girl wouldn't like that, then reminded himself that he didn't care. As far as Reznoph was concerned, she was little more than an inefficient meat shield; Or, worse, a magnet for these monsters. But the part of him that still called itself Lein wasn't so sure.

He started down the hall, baton held up to illuminate the way, walking fast but, unconsciously, making sure the girl kept up.
