Blue

Green

As pale as snow

General Appearance:
Tawni is quite tall and she enjoys that, she also sports an almost too thin frame due to anorexic tendencies. Her hair is a dark blue and goes to the mid of her back. She keeps her bangs swept to one side, but her bangs generally stay tucked behind her ear to keep them out of her face. She exhibits heavy eye makeup, but it is the only type of makeup that she usually wears. Her attire is made up of a darker, more Gothic style. It is rare to see her in an actual color besides neutral colors of grey. She loves fishnets and garters and combat boots and basically any other type of accessory that fits her style.

Personality:
Vitane has become a very independent woman. After the loss of her parents when the freaks (as she calls them) started taking over, all she's had is her grandma. She is hotheaded and lashes out sometimes. She can come off as cocky but it's only a cover up from the trauma she's endured. She's grown to distaste most men after dealing with an abusive father and a lover. She trusts warily, but once you have gained her full trust she would die for her friends. Before the takeover, she was kind and giving and always put others first. But ever since everything happened she's been protective of her only living family member and cares only for herself and her grandma.

Vitane scrutinized Jason intently, taking in every eye and body movement that he presented. Her eyes narrowed as he seemed to stutter over his thoughts, not able to comprehend exactly where they had been.

Vitane's pulse rate rose as did her blood pressure. She was prone to panic attacks and sometimes even passing out, but she had never been diagnosed with anxiety either. As well, she had wound up fainting a couple of times because of her eating disorder. If she got too excited and her stomach was lacking for a long time, it caused her to fade out.

"I know I’m going to regret this. It was Dublin. Vitane's heart dropped. Maybe Lola had been right and it had been a mistake to be with him. Her brows furrowed, but her face read pain and anguish.

"Forrest and I were looking to move there after a mess in Paris, obviously that didn’t happen…” Her eyes were shut now as tears began spilling from her eyes. What she was hearing couldn't be real!

"Why? Because you burned the place to the ground!?"She shouted, finally meeting his eyes.
"In 2057, most of Dublin suffered from a massive fire. Majority of the population was wiped out of humans and a good amount of supernaturals as well...But...My parents were in one of the homes that burned down...That you burned!

She couldn't believe she was saying these words. More tears coursed down her hot cheeks. Through grit teeth she spat,
"You really are a monster! I was an idiot to trust you! I knew better! Why would I do something so naive?" The last question was directed more towards herself. She glared at Jason with hatred in her eyes, then whisked away to run to her room.

Lola pushed into the kiss more and ended up on Forrest's lap practically. One hand lay respectably on the small of her back while the other continued to embrace her cheek. She was like porcelain but Forrest could feel her fire as she kissed him. He so wished to pick her up and take her to the attic. His lips crushed against her in a rhythmatic motion and he never wanted to let her go.

Forrest sighed satisfyingly when she pulled away. He'd finally done it. He tried to force the staggering amount of over-thinking out of his mind and just focused on this moment. He chuckled at Lola when she apologized and Forrest expressed that it didn't bother him in the least. He enjoyed her posture as he was still able to stare at her in revere.

He placed a hand on her thigh now and used his left hand to pick up his fork and begin to cut into a bite of turkey.
Lola began recalling a memory and Forrest listened intently, keeping eye contact with her in between looking at his plate. He laughed with her at her joke and smiled long after he had finished.

"...maybe I’m just lucky..."
"I think I'm the one who's lucky." He stated, still smiling at her. This was it, he couldn't take it anymore.

Forrest picked Lola up easily and used a back door to avoid exiting near Vitane and Jason's little spiel. He carried her up flights of stairs, the two of them chatting casually as he went.
He pushed open the door to his room with his foot and lay her on the far side of the bed. He pulled his shirt off and lay next to her on the bed. He rolled on his side to look at her and just adored the sight of her in this moment. She was here. On his bed. He finally had her. He didn't even care if they just laid here and talked all night. He was happy with anything if it was with her.

"So this is my room..." He began, turning to wave a hand at everything surrounding them. An easel lay propped up in one corner, several pieces of worked on papers were scattered around it. The small fire place stayed lit and there lay a pile of wood next to it.

"Yeah, it's alright. I, uh, I chop my own wood. Don't wanna make anyone else do it for me." He turned back to her smiling. "I hope you like it."

Lola’s cheeks flushed when Forrest said “I think I’m the one who’s lucky.” Her arms were shaking, she wasn’t cold just in disbelief at this moment. It was so beautiful and he was so beautiful as they ate together and just chatted away. She giggled like a little school girl when he picked her up and scurried down several halls and up flights of stairs talking about nothing important, just general things that made them both laugh or ponder. She hadn’t felt safe in so long. In the arms of possibly one of the most dangerous men she’d ever met, she didn’t care if this didn’t last. She didn’t care if tomorrow he’d put on a face of rage to break her heart. She reflected on her comment to Vitane, she understood her awe. Sure Jason was an ass, but if he was anything like Forrest, it just made sense. She felt bad for putting her down. She could tell they had slept together through body language, a girl that can remember every detail of her life was bound to pick up on signals and motions, even in the most chaotic situations. But all Lola cared for was for right now, with him. She regretted the past week of avoidance, how could she have strayed so far from such a beautiful being.

When he plopped her on her bed she couldn’t help but admire his exquisite room. Part of her wanted to laugh, she half expected his room to look like a fiery dungeon. When he pulled off his shirt her eyes widened Well hello she thought with a huge grin appearing on her face Them muscles, I need to lick me some of that. She let out a small laugh at her thoughts but recomposed herself as she tried to focus on his words. “...you like it?” Lola blinked a couple times, she had missed everything he said. “I’m sorry darling, you pulled off your shirt and this” she waved her hand at his face “Just sounded like static. Holy shit you are ripped.”

She gawked at him as she played with a strand of her hair “I think I’m a little tired of talking” she said flirtatiously. She pushed him down and swung a leg over him. She pulled off her dress and tossed it to the ground. She sat in her underwear with her long hair cascading down covering the right side of her body. She bit her lower lip, she felt like her heart was ready to explode out of her chest. She shifted her legs and laid down on top of him, she traced his lips with her finger and she stared deeply into his eyes. Then, she just let herself melt into him as she leaned forward and pressed her lips against his.

Jason was taken back when Vitane exploded into a rant I knew I would regret this. He listened to every word whilst his mind filtered through countless images of everything she described. He suddenly remembered it like it was yesterday. He could see the flames as Dublin fell. He could sense his rage as day after day he set houses on fire. He was pissed. He didn’t care of the innocent, he had been in his kitsune form for weeks by that time. His humanity was all gone, he had no control as he burned and burned longing for death, longing for it to just all end. He was attacked countless times but for some god awful reason he couldn’t die! No one had the right weapon or technique. He tried burning himself to death but the pain felt good and he just ended up healing.

...that you burned!” There it was, she was right about everything. It was one of the worst massacres in history, Jason had taken oblitus to forget about it but the potion had clearly worn off as she described it. He met her gaze, tears were flooding down her face. This is why he didn’t get close to people. This is why he didn’t bother with humans, they never moved passed it. He contemplated just killing her, ending her misery and his so he wouldn’t have to hear her venomous words. The whole time his face had remained composed and calm, but inside he was raging how dare she talk to me like that!

"You really are a monster! I was an idiot to trust you! I knew better! Why would I do something so naive?" As she turned on her heel, Jason had enough. He got to his feet and gripped her arm “No, you don’t get to do that. Not in my castle. I’m sick of everyone storming off, Forrest fine, I’m okay with him doing that. He’s my brother so no matter, he’s always excused. But you, no not you. You don’t get to leave until I say so. Got it? Enough of this equality shit. Let me remind you of your place here. You are my slave. You do what I say and what I want when I want it. Your little bitch fests won’t fly with me. Now go get some fucking food in your system and go to bed. Fight me on it and you can sleep in the dungeon.” He let go of her arm, his face was hard. Without another word, he huffed air through his nostrils and stormed to the front doors. The guards opened them for him, the bright sunset shone through the castle. As the doors closed, all that could be seen was his silhouette fading off across the drawbridge.

Vitane's eyes widened when he grabbed her, but not from fear. From rage. She didn't care what title he'd appointed her with upon her arrival, she wasn't his slave. She had lost all respect for him now. She stayed turned around listened to his rant. She laughed out of her nose and shook her head at some of his words. If he hadn't been a freak she already would have decked him in the face.

"Now go get some fucking food in your system and go to bed. Fight me on it and you can sleep in the dungeon.” Vitane swiftly turned around on the ball of her foot and glared at him again. This man was not going to act all high and mighty to her. She'd never allowed it before, and she'd rather die than not stick up for herself.

"Then I'll gladly walk myself down there." She replied calmly and in a nonchalant voice. She turned away again and headed for the living room with the giant fire place, then to the library, then down to the dungeons as she had promised. She walked through the familiar cell doors, not bothering to close it, and rolled onto the wooden bed and sighed. She would rather sleep here than listen to anything else Jason had to tell her. Especially order her. She scoffed at the idea of someone forcing her to eat food. If her mother couldn't, no one else could. She brought her knees to her chest as she stared at the barred walls and without realizing it she had soon fallen asleep.

Forrest laughed at Lola for a few seconds. He brought a hand to his mouth as he did, laughing against his knuckles.
"I'm sorry sweetheart, I was just trying to get comfortable." He smiled at her.

“I think I’m a little tired of talking.” Lola announced and Forrest watched her intently. She moved to straddle him and removed her dress, causing Forrest to immediately look away as if he had done something wrong. He wanted to look at her, he did, but years of self doubt and self torture drove him to this shy man before her. After Evie he had blamed himself for the madness his demon soul had driven her to. What it would soon do to Lola if she stuck around much longer. He wanted to push her off at this thought, if she fell for him like Evie had, she too, could go mad. He had closed his eyes now scrunching his face at the memory. Then she kissed him.

Forrest let out short groans in between their mouths being connected. He'd forgotten all of his logical thinking. She was here with him. Now. He pulled her closer by grabbing both thighs and forcefully moving her up his body. His hands traced her legs up and down several times before squeezing her rear as they kissed. His moans were labored and came out choppy and breathy, as he threw his head back in pleasure.

Lola’s eyes fluttered wide open as the sun beamed through Forrest’s curtains. The amplifier potion had vanished, but oddly enough, her memories were still intact. She lifted a hand to her forehead and pressed it in surprise. I remember things! Oh my god! I need to...I need to make dispel so I can remember everything. She basically bolted out of bed but then immediately froze in place as she remembered her night with Forrest and realized that she was in his room. Her eyes widened as she scanned over to look at the bed and saw him sleeping there. Lo, what the fuck did you do. Oh shit oh shit oh shit. Then suddenly she realized that she was naked. Her thoughts grew louder OH SHIT OH SHIT. FUCK. FUCK. OH SHIT.

She slipped into her dress and gathered up the rest of her clothes as quietly as she could. She scrunched them up in her arms and made her way to the door. She gently closed the door behind her before she sprinted to her room. Her cheeks were flushed, she avoided eye contact with every maid as they greeted her good morning. She ran into her room and slammed the door behind her. “Lola!!! You didn’t” she groaned. She walked over to her bed and belly flopped “You fucking idiot. You’re playing their game...No!” She leaned up and turned to sit “No, calm down. This is not a game. No. Oh man. My mind was so full...I should have just went to bed...I should have-”

A knock intruded her thoughts, Lola’s head snapped in it’s direction “What if it’s him” she mumbled. The knock sounded again and Lola got to her feet, but she hesitated. Another knock, this time a little harder, Lola brushed a few fingers through hair her in a poor attempt to straighten up. She walked up to the door and opened it “hey---Jason?!”

Jason practically fell in the room. He was covered in severe burns, cuts and blood as he stumbled forward. Lola grasped his shoulder to hold him “I got you, it’s okay. Oh my god...Jason.” She was flabbergasted. How he got home was a mystery to her, he must have teleported here, he must have tried to get into Vitane’s room but she probably ignored his knock. His wounds were deep, they weren’t healing and blood was gushing. He had a gash on his head, the wound was significant enough that any human would have been unconscious by it. He held his leather jacket covering his one arm, blood dripped from it by his feet. His shirt was shredded with cuts and scratches and there was one big gaping hole on the left side of his waist, it looked like a severe burn and it was spewing out blood. His hands were like charcoal, covered in what seemed to be ashes from flames all blooded up as well. How he was alive was rather impressive, his face was so pale from the loss of blood he looked like he was ready to vomit and faint. Lola bit her lower lip, she held him up uneasily, his weight and the blood pouring onto her was causing her to lose hold of him. She reached over awkwardly and grabbed his wrist, she spoke into his watch and they teleported to her alchemy lab. She set him down as gently as she could on the ground against a wall and began scurrying around the lab grabbing ingredients and mumbling a recipe to herself.

“Lola, just leave it” Jason groaned.
“If you wanted me to leave it you wouldn’t have teleported to my door” Lola snapped “Now hush, this elixir is tricky.”

A couple minutes passed before she had completed salutem a healing elixir. She bent down next to Jason and grabbed him by his hair to tilt his head back “Drink” she demanded. She poured the concoction down his throat and placed her blooded hand over his mouth, forcing him to swallow. He started to cough, his wounds began to heal almost immediately. Lola sat back on her legs and stared at him with furrowed brows.

He blinked a couple times and looked up at her “Thanks Ruby” he mumbled. Lola got to her feet and brushed the blood on her dress. She cringed, a designer dress perfectly ruined and no doubt the blood was in her hair by now too. She looked at him worriedly and gave her head a shake “I won’t ask, don’t tell.”
Jason and her exchanged a look and he gave her a nod. Without another word she turned on her heel and made her way back to her room. When she got there the blood stains that had covered her door and floor were gone, These maids are efficient...
She took a quick shower to freshen up. Her mind was racing with thoughts of last night and thoughts of everything that just happened. The water was red as it ran down the drain, Lola shivered, she hated blood. She tied her hair up into a ponytail, not bothering to dry it and put on a new outfit. She smiled at herself weakly in the mirror “Just another day” she stated and huffed, rolling her eyes.

She made her into the dining hall to find Jason already sitting at his place, he was clean and changed. He was reading news off his phone as he casually ate his breakfast, acting like nothing had happened. Lola bowed her head as she walked passed him and sat down at her seat “Where’s Vitane?” she asked.
Jason glanced up and looked at her empty seat, he shrugged “Probably off crying in the dungeon” he said halfheartedly.
Lola’s mouth dropped open “You’re incredible, you know that.” Jason shrugged again in response. She pushed herself out of her seat, letting out a small grunt of annoyance and made her way down to the dungeon. Her nostrils flared at the familiar and horrid stench. She walked over to Vitane and crouched in front of her “Vitane, wake up” she said gently and pressed a couple fingers to her cold cheek.

Vitane was pulled from her nightmare by freezing prodding. She scrunched up and swept her entire body to the head of the bed, huddling there in her tiny amount of mass.

"Don't touch me!" She shouted, her body almost shivering now. She was clearly scared, but seemed like she didn't want to let on. Her emotions were all over the place. She wanted to lash out again. To scream at Jason and attack him. She wanted to flee this place. But still, somewhere way below her surface, she still longed for Jason to be holding her cheek again. Her eyes finally slowly opened and Vitane scoot out of her position to the edge of the bed to envelop Lola in an unexpected hug.

"I'm sorry...I thought you were Jason." She looked up at Lola from her still sitting position and her expression changed from relief and gratitude to that of a weeping child. All over again it was like she was experiencing her mother's death. She knew now, the cause, and only in front of Lola could she manage to release her pent up emotions.

"He did it..." She blubbered, most likely not making much sense. "I can't believe after all this time....Jason....He killed my parents!" She looked up again at Lola, eyeliner and mascara now smearing underneath both eyes. She was finally accepting it. She threw her arms around Lola again and continued to cry.

When she finally pulled herself together, she wiped her hand under her runny nose and sniffled.
"I'm sorry to burden you with this." She said behind dead eyes. All emotion had left her now. She was starting to become numb all over again. She didn't look back up at Lola, she just stood and headed for the door.
"Thanks for coming to get me." She turned back to Lola and gave her a tiny smile before they both exited the dungeon.

Forrest breathed in slow and yawned. He stretched then finally opened his eyes to view the other side of his empty bed. He made a sort of disappointed face then turned to look behind him. Unlikely she would still be there, he just hoped to see her. He hadn't even gotten to enjoy waking up next to her. No matter, really. He thought as he slowly got out of bed. He was joyful. This was his first night's rest in what felt like months. Demon's never really needed sleep, but once in a while he would feel similar to what humans experienced as tired.

He went to get dressed and settled on an outfit before making his way downstairs towards the dining hall. Today had to be the day. He had to offer Lola her freedom. A sharp stab hit his heart and he stopped, mid-step. Why did it hurt like this to even think about letting her go. There was no way he could already...
He forced his mind from that thought and proceeded to his destination. He couldn't let his emotions get in the way again. He had seen the outcome of him being selfish. His mind flashed to the dome screen again, watching Evie happily take her own life. He grimaced and shook his head. Why must he live forever? Why did he have to be burdened with these memories. To live forever was to live alone. In your head. He sighed, his hand on the knob of the dining hall door. He needed to get out of his head now, though. He couldn't let it bring her down.

He stepped through the dining hall doors prepared to be chipper, but came face to face with only Jason. Any arrangements in his mind diminished and he kept an emotionless allure as he sat down to join him.

Morning."He called over, halfheartedly, not really expecting a reply.

Lola was startled and retracted her hand immediately as Vitane shouted. She stared at her pained face “Open your eyes dear” she said softly. When Vitane wrapped herself around Lola, she reciprocated and hugged her back tightly. Being with Vitane, holding her, always reminded her of her humanity, always brought her back down to earth amidst the chaos with their masters. It reminded her of the reasons why they needed to leave and why she couldn’t be with Forrest. They didn’t belong here and when Vitane said ...He killed my parents!” it just confirmed many of the reasons why.

Lola’s mouth fell open, she placed her hands on Vitane’s cheeks and wiped the mascara gently with her thumbs. “I’m so sorry V. I wish, I wish there was something I could do.” She hated seeing Vitane so hurt, she looked so frail and cold. “You’re not burderdening me, we’re in this together. You’re honestly the only other human I’ve ever been this close with aside from my mom. We have to look out for each other. And when Jason said you were in here, or at least he assumed, I had to get you. I’m not gonna let you rot. Come on, let's go to your room and get you some fresh clothes before breakfast. I know you probably don’t want to see him but you’re going to have to put on a brave face.” she urged.

They both exited the dungeon and made their way to Vitane’s room, avoiding the dining hall and taking their time as they did. When they arrived Lola shut the door behind her and crossed her arms “I owe you an apology” she said softly “I shouldn’t have called you out for sleeping with Jace...these men...these creatures, they’re something else. I can’t think straight when I’m around them. My emotions get out of whack and as much as part of me resents them, the other part is actually drawn and for some reason I give a damn. What I’m trying to say is...I fucked up too, I kinda had...I had...I slept with Forrest last night.” She bit her lower lip and grasped her ponytail with one hand pulling it out of frustration “I think he’s genuine, but...but in a way I think it’s the same as Jason. We need to get out of here.” A shiver went down her spine as the image of Jason’s blooded face and burned body pulsed in her memory. She couldn’t be responsible for these beasts, if he came home like that after a night of losing control, who knows how Forrest would look or the city. She shuttered at the thought, Vitane wasn’t the burden, they were.

Jason turned off the screen of his phone and glanced up at Forrest as he took his seat. A huge grin appeared on his face “I think you mean ‘good morning’ I haven’t seen you walk like that in a long time” he chuckled. He sat back in his chair and took a bite out of his eggs benedict. “She was here, in case you were wondering. She ran off to go find Vitane.”

Jason’s face became sorrowed, he was angry with himself. If he had just taken the time to explain to Vitane his actions in Dublin maybe she would have understood. He needed to do right by her, but yesterday had been too much. Too much anger and too many other emotions, he lost his temper and no doubt she hated him by now. Yes she was his slave, at least by definition in his mind, but she was different than the others. He cared for her a little too much and if he was going to make this work he needed to keep his cool. His mind was just too full, part of him resented the fact that he cared and the other part was overjoyed, she made him feel happy. Well, not overly, but enough that he had needed to make it home.

His night had been horrid, being that close to death had given him a wake up call. It didn’t matter how much he hated this world. He couldn’t lose control like that again or else he and Forrest would be forced to leave. He couldn’t do that to his brother, not this time. Not when he could sense how pleased he seemed lately, it didn’t matter how miserable he was, he needed to suck it up.

When a maid came by and handed Forrest his daily newspaper Jason scanned the cover from afar. He felt tense but when he saw there was no news outlining his night, he sighed in relief. He brushed a hand through his hair and he gave his head a shake You fucked up Jace, close call.

He took another bite out of his food and smiled as he pushed his thoughts aside. “So, any plans for today” he asked lightly.

Vitane was thrilled that Lola affirmed that the two were in this for the long haul. As much as she hated accepting help or handouts, she could admit that she did need Lola. They were the only humans around, as far as they knew, that weren't head over heels in loyalty for these freak brothers.

"You’re honestly the only other human I’ve ever been this close with aside from my mom."
"Me too," Vitane agreed. She smiled weakly at Lola. She really felt like she could trust this woman. Even with her life. And that was a comforting feeling Vitane hadn't felt since before she knew the darkness in her ex's heart.

Vitane grimaced at the idea of seeing Jason any time soon, but she accepted Lola's pep talk and headed with her to Vitane's room. She struggled with not getting giddy hearing about her and Forrest. She had been waiting to hear details and if it hadn't been for Jason's style and bad boy attitude, she would have fallen for Forrest first. Just the way he walked drew her in. They both did, and Lola was right. These guys were doing something to make them like them. Vitane nodded her head and agreed with Lola again. She, too, experienced out of whack emotions when next to Jason. Thoughts and feelings she'd never experienced and it exhilarated her. But as Lola pointed, it should scare her too.

She went to the closet and picked out an outfit then spun for Lola, finishing her footwork to view herself in the mirror. It was much easier to love herself with pretty clothes on. She smoothed the dress and sighed at the amount of space there was between her skin touching the fabric. And this was an extra small. She looked sadly over at Lola, almost a help me look, but she was so far in this hole, there was no way she was getting out. She could always use an extra inch off her waist. No!!! She told herself angrily . That's just the stupid voices! You know they're liars, Vitane. Get a grip!
"Ready for breakfast?" She asked listlessly. She stood in the doorway, turned away from Lola so that she couldn't see the tear twinkling as it fell down her pallor cheek.

Forrest scoffed at Jason and fixed himself a plate of eggs and bacon. As much as he had hoped not to hear anything about it, Jason knew him better than anyone, and he would have noticed from a mile away.

He began cutting off bites of egg and eating them, followed by a piece of bacon.

He looked up at Jason when he mentioned Lola. His brows somewhat lowered at his tone when he mentioned Vitane.
"Something happen between you two?" He asked earnestly. He may have blown Jason off at his first comment, but he cared about Jason nonetheless. He could tell something was wrong, but not exactly what.

He was nearly done with his breakfast when the girls came in. Without thinking, he stood abruptly to show respect, but he had done it so quickly his huge mass had pushed the table back a few inches. He blushed and averted his eyes from the women until they say down and he awkwardly took his seat.

"I didn't have anything in particular planned. How about a girl's day? You two go shopping with Nathan or maybe go to the sauna. It's a floor under us." He was hoping to maybe have a moment alone with his brother so they could really talk and he figured the ladies would want a moment alone for once too.

Lola sat on the bed twirling her thumbs as Vitane got ready. She wasn’t prepared to see Forrest again, she just wanted to hide out in her room all day. She needed to figure out his effect on her, sure he was charming, good looking and a demon dressed as a fucking prince, but this wasn’t worth it to her. She needed to keep her head clear and fight whatever spell he had.

Lola smiled and nodded at Vitane’s outfit, she wasn’t really into the dark punk attire but Vitane pulled it off well. She looked rather thin in the outfit which was concerning but Lola knew that wasn’t her business. She got to her feet and followed behind Vitane as they made their way into the dining hall. Lola avoid looking at either of the boys, she just wanted her food and wanted to get out.

Jason grimaced, he didn’t like questions but Forrest was always an exception, he felt obligated to reply. He brushed a hand through his hair and sighed irritably “Let’s just say Dublin happened.” He gave Forrest a look that said Fuck me right? Their past always burdened them and lately it just seemed like these girls were a little too connected to it.

When the girls walked in Jason eyed Vitane as she took her seat, a million things came to mind. He wanted to talk, he wanted to explain and apologize. He shivered at the idea, he hated saying sorry and he hated caring for any human. But she looked so beautiful, he felt butterflies creep in. He glanced down at his almost empty plate in annoyance, I hate feeling he thought bitterly.

“...girl’s day...”
Lola and Jason both snapped their heads in Forrest’s direction. Jason gave him a look and Lola exchanged one with Vitane before she blurted out “shopping, we’ll go shopping.” There was a tinge of nervousness in her voice but she wanted nothing more than to get the hell out of here, even if it was only for a few hours. Being in Forrest's presence gave her a feeling of awe and irritation. He looked amazing today, she just wanted to grab his face, kiss him and do last night all over again.
“You don’t have enough clothes?” Jason sarcastically stated.
Lola glared at him “You haven’t burned enough houses?”
“Wow.” Jason replied flatly.
Lola immediately dropped her gaze, her eyes went wide as she stared at her plate. What the fuck Lola. She tensed up preparing to be yelled at.
A huge grin appeared on Jason’s face he glanced over at Forrest, then Lola and chuckled “That bad huh?”
Lola slowly looked up at him and lifted a brow. The way he looked at Forrest made her groan and her cheeks flushed. “Oh fuck me”
“Couldn’t get enough?” Jason immediately shot back.
Lola took a big bite out of her food and with her mouth full she said “Oh shut it Jace.”

Jason chuckled again and took a final bite out of this food. He then looked over a Vitane, his face became pained in discomfort and annoyance. He brushed a hand through his hair and finally mustered the courage to say “I’m really sorry about yesterday.”
Lola couldn’t resist and she burst out laughing “That bad huh?”
This time Jason’s cheeks actually turned red, he looked over at her and dropped his face in his palm. “Okay, please just go shopping.”

Lola walked closely next to Vitane as they passed store after store. They hadn’t gone into a single one, it was evident that neither of them wanted to be here. Lola wanted to plan their escape but Nathan, the imp, was following close behind. It was discomforting, Lola glanced back at him and gave him a look “Forever in prison” she mumbled. She hooked arms with Vitane and let out a small sigh "It's nice to be out of the castle and get some fresh air, wish I could go see my mom though."

Jason sat on the ledge of a platform in the grand fireplace living room. He sat with his face in his palm as he waited for Forrest to explain why he let the girls go. “Soooo, why did you send them shopping?” he asked. He would have much rather spent the day with Vitane to make up for his actions, but he didn't bother arguing when Forrest had offered to let them spend the day out. Maybe he had found out about Jason's night and was ready to tear him a part, maybe he wanted to kill the girls, or maybe they had some kind of mission to fulfill. No matter, Jason's thoughts were flooded as he waited patiently for a reply.

Vitane clutched to Lola like she was a life preserver. The middle of Paris was overrun with Supernaturals by now and they were everywhere. Because of Jason now she hated them ever more than she did before being captured. She scowled nearly the entire trip until Lola spoke to her. Her face turned over and she smiled at her.

"It's definitely nice. Beautiful cloudy day, just how I like it."

She saw a store she was actually interested in and entered the doorway. The smell of werewolves was overwhelming and Vitane turned away. She didn't want to see anymore of these damned creatures! Where was a store that was ran by actual humans?

She turned to look at Lola and wished they were close enough to speak through facial expressions. She slipped her phone from the waistband of her tights and typed out a message then handed it to Lola.

"Look what Jason messaged me!" She giggled enthusiastically, putting on a good show. The Imp paid them no mind and continued eyeing the crowd ahead of them.

So obviously we need to get out of here.
Are there any potions you could make that could turn us invisible?
I can stop time but not very well.
Maybe we can beat them.

She eyed Lola quickly deleting the characters from the text and she smirked. Since they weren't actually exchanging messages, it couldn't be tracked.

The banter between his brother and Lola started irking him to no end. Despite anything of either past, they both deserved respect or none at all and that meant dungeon time.
"Enough." He said in a stern but calm voice. Lola'd had the last word, but it still bothered him to no end. He never let anyone live that disrespected his brother, so this was a first.

He nodded and grunted in agreeance to Jason's request for them to disperse.

. . .

"So, Dublin, eh?" He asked as he walked into the grand fireplace room. Since there was only a single armchair in the room, Jason took his usual spot on the mantle. It suited him anyway, he was the fire king after all. After so long, Forrest swore to never use fire again. It caused too much destruction. But he had broken that pact the other night to save Lola.

"I sent them away because I needed to speak with you." He said smoothly, taking his time to get to his seat.
He sat down and crossed his right leg over his knee and folded his hands together.
"The Hunters have contacted us."
He gave Jason a moment to let that sink in. The Hunters had been a constant thorn in their side for at least a hundred years, now they had found their location.
He held up a tiny piece of paper that scrawled out,
"The flames in the night burn on,
war approaches you at dawn."

Forrest looked up from the note to Jason and sighed. They were either going to fight or run again. And they were both sick of running.

Lola frowned at Vitane’s message and shook her head. “I told you he’d come around” she said lightly. She pulled out her own phone and typed out a message as stealthily as possible. She bit her lower lip as she showed it to Vitane “Forrest always checks up on me too, I actually find it really sweet.”

I can easily make one, but we’re chipped remember.

She shrugged and shoved her phone back into her purse and sighed irritably “Might be worth a try though” she said in response to her message. She glanced back at the imp who eyed her curiously “This shop” she said and nodded towards a clothing boutique. Lola turned in, casually walking in, she stopped near the entrance as she glanced around.

Lola? she heard a voice call out.
Lola looked over to find the face of that familiar voice “Mila!” Lola exclaimed and ran over to give the Mermaid a hug. “I see you’re out on land today.”
The girl smiled I’m almost out of that potion you gave me, but I just needed a break from the waters. Say, where have you been? Everyone’s been asking about you, it’s unlike you to not be at the cafe on Tuesdays and you weren’t at Calv’s party on Saturday.”
Lola peeked over her shoulder at the imp before she glanced back at Mila “I’ve just been really busy.”
She heard the imp grunt impatiently, Lola’s heart started to race. She knew she shouldn’t be talking to anyone and she knew that Forrest would probably hear about it later. But seeing this friend was too much of a coincidence for her and an idea came to mind. “say do you have any of cinis left? You know after you got in that predicament…”
The girl nodded “Yea of course dear, I haven’t had to use it since.”
“Mind if I take some? I lost the recipe but I can always mimic if I have a sample. Forrest, this guy I’m seeing, has this awesome alchemy lab at his place so I’ve been conjuring like crazy.”
The mermaid smiled and nodded “So that’s why you said no to Tristan, here, you can have the rest of it, so long as I get some ambulemus next time I see you.
The mermaid handed Lola a small vial, she placed it into her purse and smiled “Of course, anyways, I should go. Vitane hates dresses.” She gave her friend a small hug and made her way out of the store.
Lola glanced around anxiously and gave Vitane a look. “I need a break, my heels are killing me” she grumbled. She walked over to an alleyway entrance and leaned against the wall. The imp floated next to her with his arms crossed as he waited impatiently.
“Staring me down won’t make my heels feel better. I know you’re going to tell Forrest. The imp grunted at her and stuck his hand out Potion he hissed.
Lola grimaced “I just wanted it for a sample”
Potion
Lola let out an irritated sigh. As she pulled the vial out of her purse she tossed the liquid at the imp’s face and he turned into ash. Lola’s eyes were wide at the pile “I’m not sure if he can regenerate but we better go.”

Jason ran a hand through his hair “Yup, her parents were some of the innocent.” His mind flashed to images of all the screaming faces and the flames. He searched, trying to see if he could find Vitane’s house, but there were hundreds. He felt tense not being able to remember even though that was probably a good thing. Part of him felt like he needed to find the house in his memory so he could share in Vitane’s pain when in reality he would find it amusing.

When Forrest changed the topic Jason’s mind refocused on his brother. “I don’t really want to talk about the girls. It’s been messy and clearly I’m a huge factor in their misery and I’d rather-”
“The Hunters have contacted us”
Jason fell silent and his eyes went wide. He reached into his leather jacket and pulled out a cigarette. He ignited it with his thumb and eyed his brother “What do they want?”
“The flames in the night burn on, war approaches you at dawn”

Jason let out a large huff of smoke, his heart skipped a beat and his palms began to sweat. He brushed a hand through his hair again “I have to tell you something” he said slowly “I almost died this morning, if it wasn’t for Lola...I wouldn’t be here right now.” He took another drag and got to his feet, he began to pace and shook his head “It’s been bad Forrest, I need to get rid of Vitane. Since she’s gotten here I’ve gotten worse. I’ve been fucking up the town almost every night. Yesterday I thought of mom again, after all that heat I just needed to escape...I can’t do this anymore. This immortality, this hell” He closed his fist and punched a nearby the wall, it crumbled causing a small dent “I set a big one on fire, I lost control and as I was fading...they found me. Thank god for Eli and Zack, they came to my rescue and help me fight them off enough so I could escape…I don't know what has gotten into me. This darkness is taking over.”

He sat back down on the mantle and rubbed the back of his neck. He glanced up at Forrest with furrowed brows and said “What are gonna do this time?”

Vitane gathered the phone and her face brightened at the fact that it was possible to create such a potion, but she was reminded of the chip in her hip. Her hand intuitively went to the place that it was inserted. How could they deactivate it? Maybe she could stop time randomly throughout the day and find the location of the box that could deactivate the chips.

Vitane entered the store warily. All spring clothes, summer dresses, and clearanced winter clothes. She stayed close to Lola, but was in her own head so she didn't hear the conversation she was involved in. She was thinking about Jason of all people. For some reason she was wondering why he would need to burn all of Dublin in the first place. What had happened that made him go so ballistic? She scolded herself quickly. Who cares?! He killed your mom and there was no taking that back, no matter the excuse.

She watched the fish girl hand something to Lola in secret, but saw the Imp had seen as well. Vitane's brows lowered in defeat. There was no way they could manage an escape. With creatures around like these that saw everything and heard everything, how could they keep that secret?

Vitane nodded when Lola excused herself and waited by the nearest store, leaning against the brick of the entryway side.

She waited for a moment. She admired her shoes, picked threads off of her clothes, then looked up into the crowd. She spotted a tall male with black hair that was shaggy. He was a good looking man, but he couldn't even compare to Jason or Forrest and their beauty and charisma. Vitane instantly became anxious and she looked around desperately for Lola or Nathan.

She ran down the alley, impressively making running in heels look easy. She breathed hard in front of Lola then looked to the ground. A large pile of ash was steaming and her eyes widened. She looked up to Lola then out of the alley. He was standing there, in the middle of the alley, staring right at her.

"Hide me!" She breathed hysterically.

Forrest listened to Jason's story of his night and his feelings. He agreed, these women were somehow pulling something out of them that they hadn't felt in what felt like eons.

He grunted when he mentioned getting rid of Vitane. It was like Jason was in his mind. He worried for the girls and he worried for themselves. Would there really be a war on their doorstep? If that was the case then they needed to ready any fighting worthy servant they had. And they needed to get the girls out.

“What are gonna do this time?”
"I think we need to get them out of here. Then get everyone ready, He replied.

Lola stared at the pile of ash feeling anxious, the brothers had eyes on everything, no doubt they would soon find out. She glanced up when Vitane came running. “What’s wrong” she asked feeling her panic. She watched Vitane’s face and turned her attention when a male figure appeared in the alley. Lola felt her heart skip a beat as he stared down Vitane. She took a hold of Vitane’s hand when she said “Hide me!”

Lola pulled Vitane out from the other side of the alley and began running with their fingers intertwined. She ran into her favorite modern cafe and leaned up against the wall to catch her breath “Who was that?” she asked brushing her hand through her hair “Are you okay?”

LOLA! Usual today? Lola’s head snapped to the barista’s direction. She smiled weakly, too many people knew her here. “Okay, I know at least a dozen people here” she said in a low voice “Wait. Maybe this is a good thing” she contemplated. “Let's sit. We need to discuss an action plan and you need to tell me who that was.”

She pulled Vitane to her favorite spot, a loveseat with a coffee table in front. She sat closely to Vitane with their knees and hips touching, she felt like all eyes were on them. “You’re my cousin” Lola instructed “They don’t like humans but they respect me, so just act as normal as you can.” The barista, a fairy, came by and placed two cappuccinos on the table. Good to see you Ruby, we missed you on Tuesday
“Awe that’s sweet Drew, I wasn’t feeling well and I’ve just been so busy.”
The barista gave her a smile but Vitane an odd look before he floated back to the counter. Lola turned her body towards Vitane and she frowned. “I don’t know how much time we have” she stated worriedly.

Jason grimaced at the idea of actually letting Vitane go. He didn’t want to lose her but he didn’t want to have her here all in the same. With the threat from The Hunters he needed to put his complex feelings aside and just tap into the moment. He finished half of his cigarette and extinguished it on the mantle. He stood up again and placed his hands in his leather jacket and began to pace. “By your tone, you’re saying you want to set them free.” He shook his head “I don’t know Demon, I don’t like that idea. Honestly, I’d rather just kill them. Makes our lives easier but I know you’re too soft for that.” He was being somewhat sarcastic, killing was always the answer in his mind. It got rid of problems despite generating new ones, he’d rather deal with the new ones and just have the girls out of their hair permanently. “I mean who knows what they’ll do if we set them free, is Lola that worth it to you?”

He knew the answer, but he didn’t want to hear it. Vitane was that worth it to him. He knew that if the opportunity came he wouldn't be able to actually do it, to see her fall cold and to lose someone like that again. He hadn’t felt this frustrated sensation of love since Sapphire. He could see her face like it was yesterday, they were both so young and innocent, he shuddered.

He turned his thoughts to the room and leaned against a windowsill. “Okay, I have an idea but you’re probably not going to like it. We can take on these guys, I mean if three of us can fight them off enough to survive last night then you and I can do it. We may just need one thing, an amplifier. I know Lola can make one, I saw the recipe when I was in the lab. With that we’ll be twice or three times as strong, we can-”

Jason’s phone began to buzz causing him to lose his train of thought. He pulled it out and glanced at the notification. He looked back up at Forrest with a bitter expression “Nathan’s chip has been fried. For fucksakes. Fuck.” He blew air out of his nose ready to rage “Your call Demon, want to teleport them back?”

Vitane gratefully took Lola's hand and she led them to cafe. Vitane ignored the Supernaturals around her, she just wanted to sit down and be away from the windows.

Lola led them to a seat and Vitane slid in and sat close to Lola. She was shaking. She had hoped to never see Kris again, but there he was, of course. The one day they decided to go into town, he just had to be out. And what was he doing in France?

Vitane's head was swimming. Lola's words continued to repeat in her mind. “Who was that?”
Now was the time...She had to let her past out. At least to someone. And she was happy that someone could be Lola.

She sighed heavily and her head fell.
"He's my ex," She admitted. "He's been...looking for me." She looked away for the next part. "He would...rape me and...beat me if I refused. I finally got away after three years and he's been looking for me ever since. A couple of tears escaped and slid down her face. She shut her eyes tight and sniffled. "He was so cruel to me...Just like my father..." She looked over at Lola with a tearful smile. "I mean they do say you look for guys like your dad, right?"

She thanked the fairy and sipped her cappuccino. She didn't look up again after that. She didn't see the man standing outside the cafe, looking through the window.

Forrest stood now and crossed his arms in front of the fireplace. He hated all of this. They searched for weeks to find the girls, then another few months to actually locate them and bring them back. He sighed gloomily, but when Jason mentioned that he was soft, it hit a nerve. His head was low but his eyes watched him under furrowed brows.

He blew hot steam from his nose and his voice changed slightly. "I'm not soft and you of all people know that." His voice was aggressive, but it wasn't as if he was trying to intimidate Jason. He was trying to get his point across.

Forrest held his head in his hands when he questioned if Lola was worth it. He wanted to say yes. Of course she is! He screamed in his head. He removed his hands and sighed again.
"She is comparable to Evie..." He turned away from Jason, hoping he wouldn't give him shit. They were having a deep and serious moment.
"That's why I need to get her out of here as soon as possible. Especially if The Hunters are coming."

Jason suggested a plan to take on The Hunters and Forrest wasn't enthused. Three people? They had creatures that could tear even them up. Older monsters than they were, and more powerful to boot. He did like the idea, however, of using a booster potion. It was brilliant. The few times they ever needed an alchemist here, and they were stocked.

Forrest groaned loudly at the new news of Nathan. His favorite butler. How did this happen? Were the girls trying to escape?
"I feel like we should go to them and see what the problem is."

Hearing Vitane talk, Lola wanted to throw up. How could someone have been so cruel to this beautiful person? She shuddered at the horror and squeezed Vitane’s hand. “He makes Jason and Forrest sound like angels.” She blew air out of her nose and her mind shifted to their lives in the castle. Lola had lived an enjoyable life prior but maybe this arrangement was exactly what Vitane needed.

“I mean they do say you look for guys like your dad, right?”
Lola frowned and shook her head “Don’t talk like that, you can’t blame yourself. It’s not like you wanted to stick around right?” She glanced over to the windows and saw him peering in and she sighed irritably “This castle, this life...you need it don’t you?” she asked softly. Her mind hated the thought. She knew that if Vitane were to stay at the castle should have too as well, no way Forrest would let her go and Lola couldn’t just abandon her there.

She took a sip of her cappuccino and shook her head, she wanted to cry. Soon the brothers would come looking for them and they would find them easily no doubt. She wanted to run but now there was this man outside the cafe, he was a barrier, they were trapped. “I miss my teleporter” Lola mumbled.

Lola stared at Vitane’s face, part of her just wanted to go back to the castle and hide out all day. She wanted to just go back to last night where everything was like a fairy-tale and forget this real world bullshit.

Suddenly, the cafe door rang open announcing the arrival of a new customer. Lo!
Lola glanced over to see her best friend Riley at the door. “Sorry, I’ll be right back”
She got to her feet and made her way over “Hey Riley” she said lightly. He took her arm and pulled her in and gave her a big hug, he held on tightly as he spoke Where the hell have you been, I’ve been worried sick”
Lola pulled away but kept their hands intertwined. “Sorry sweety I’ve just-”
At first I thought you were in New York with your mom, but then she called me and she’s freaking out. Is you phone dead, I even stopped by at your house yesterday, it looked like you hadn’t been home in days”
Lola grimace “I’m sorry to leave you in the dark, I’ve just been-wait-my mom’s in New York?”
Riley gave her a weird look and nodded I need to figure out a spell or we need to come up with a potion, your memories are getting really bad Ruby. Yeah, she went to go find your dad. You were pissed about it for weeks.
Lola squeezed his hand, she finally remembered what she was doing before she was captured. She had a fight with her mom, she begged her not to pursue the excursion but it was no use. She stormed away and was captured on her way home.

Jason glanced over at Forrest in surprise when he mentioned Evie “Shit.” he mumbled and sighed heavily. He knew how much Evie had meant to Forrest, and this made him worry. He couldn't see his brother go through something like that again, it was too much of a close call and both of them being miserable did this world no favors. Their love and her falling into madness was a dark time, he shuddered at the memory.

Jason agreed when he mentioned teleporting over to the girls. He had to let Vitane go, never had he set a slave free before but he knew that it was probably for the best. He hoped it would be easy but the thought of something having happened to Nathan gave him a pit in his stomach They were trying to escape he concluded. He walked up to Forrest, he placed his hand on his shoulder and spoke into his watch “Take me to Vitane” he commanded. They were transported to the outside of a cafe. Jason looked up at the sign “I’m not surprised” he mumbled. He glanced over to see Kris standing next the cafe window and they exchanged a look, something about him made Jason feel uneasy.

They made their way inside the cafe and Jason winced “Fond memories of this place” he stated sarcastically. He glanced around until he spotted Vitane sitting alone on one of the loveseats. As he made his way over to her, he and Lola exchanged a look. Lola’s face fell immediately “Digging a grave” he stated in a low voice as he walked by.
Lola grabbed Jason’s hand and tugged him towards her “It’s not you.” Jason gave her a perplexed look as she dropped his hand, and she nodded towards Vitane. A feeling of relief washed over him but he felt tense when he could see that she was upset. He shook his head and shoved his hands in his leather jacket as he walked over to Vitane.

Jason plopped down next to her and placed his hand up on the back of the sofa. “Having fun?” he stated unenthusiastically. He analyzed her face, she seemed rather uncomfortable. He glanced back over at Lola who was busy conversing with a friend and he felt himself clue in a little at what she was saying. He dropped his hand to her knee “What’s going on?” he asked softly.

”Who was that?” Riley asked.
Lola looked up at Riley and shook her head “I’m sorry to leave you in the dark like this, but I should go”
He lifted a hand to her cheek and furrowed his brows "Ruby, what’s going on with you. Are you okay?”
Lola could feel tears filtering behind her eyes, she gave him a weak smile and stood on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek. “I’m sorry Kingsley, I’ll call you when I can, okay…”
She glanced over nervously at Forrest and dropped Riley’s hand. Riley's eyes were locked on her face with worry “What do you want me to tell you mom?” he asked as she started to walk away.
She peeked over her shoulder “Just cover me, like that time at Bellamy’s she chuckled.

She walked up to Forrest and stood next to him “Hey” she greeted in a small voice.

Vitane looked up from her staring contest with her coffee. Her eyes met the blue ones of her perpetrator. Her own green orbs widened and her jaw unhinged. He had definitely seen her standing next to the alley. She shuddered and looked down again quickly, hoping that he was a figment of her imagination. Lola's words. Need the boys? That was sort of an understatement. The only reason she wanted to escape in the first place was to get back to her grandma.

Vitane nodded like a robot when Lola excused herself, but soon the booth was refilled with another. Jason. She still didn't look up. She didn't want to see either of them, but she would gladly take Jason over Kristopher any day of the week any year of her life.

“Having fun?” Vitane allowed a sarcastic laugh to escape her dry throat. She took another swig of her cappuccino which didn't help at all. When Jason touched her knee she jumped. All from just seeing him again. Her brows creased together in an apologetic look, but she didn't meet Jason's eyes. It was as if Kris had a hold on her. It was like she needed to worry about sitting next to Jason because she didn't want to meet punishment from Kris later. She swept her mind of these thoughts. He was out of her life. He needed to know that. But right now she couldn't get the gall to stand and approach him.

Jason asked another question and Vitane gave him a sort of lifeless shrug. Just then the bell attached to the door rang and in he walked. Vitane clutched hard onto Jason's arm and she began shaking again, keeping her head down and eyes even lower.

Forrest happily enveloped Lola into a hug when she approached him. He held her for a while and breathed a sigh of relief from his nostrils. Thank goodness she was okay. Maybe someone had come up on them and the girls had escaped. At least Vitane portrayed a terrified emotion. He was trying to piece it together, but let go of Lola and looked from Vitane back down to Lola.

"Hey, yourself." He said gently, crooking an arm around her shoulders. He turned them away from the table that Vitane and now Jason sat at.

"Is everything okay?" He asked, peering over to the door. A man had entered with dark long hair and a leather jacket similar to Jason's. He watched this man close, but offered Lola sympathetic looks in between. The man strut right up to Vitane and Jason and thankfully he had amazing hearing because he heard every word even over the hustle and bustle of the cafe.

"I've been looking for you. Come on, it's time to go." Forrest's eyes turned into slits and he spun the two of them back around. He stealthily grabbed a couple of sandwiches from a tray passing him by, causing the lycan girl that held it to turn on heel and say, "Hey!" He turned and winked which caused her to sort of stand there in shock and she didn't press further.

The two casually approached the table and he sat down the two sandwiches in front of the couple then looked over at Kris and eyed him curiously.

"Can I help you?" Forrest asked in a low tone.
"No man, you're good!" Kris said, smiling over at Forrest, but when he looked back to Vitane his eyes shot daggers at her.
"I was just taking Vitane back to her grandma. You see, she's very worried about you. Would seriously hate to worry her, she's prone to heart attacks. He said this in an all too chipper voice and he set Forrest on edge with his words.

Lola hugged Forrest back, wrapping her arms loosely around his waist, she felt uneasy and her palms were sweating. She needed to leave immediately. She leaned away from Forrest slightly as he said “Hey yourself.” She glanced back over at Riley who was eyeing her worriedly as he ordered his usually Dark Roast coffee and sat at the bar chatting up a storm with some mutual friends. Her heart sunk, she missed him dearly and she missed her life. She had known Riley since they were kids, he had taught her everything she knew about alchemy and he always had her best interest at heart.

Riley took a sip of his coffee and mouthed What’s going on?
Lola rolled her eyes Leave it she mouthed back with a plea in her eyes. His eyebrows furrowed and he shrugged at her.

Lola dropped her gaze to the ground, she avoided eye contact with Forrest as well. She felt slightly relieved however that he seemed concerned rather than pissed. As he glanced back and forth between her and Vitane, her mind was racing. She wanted to pull away and just run but as he rested his arm around her shoulder she felt herself ease up a bit and melted into him, she grimaced Damn lack of control.

“Is everything okay?” Lola glanced over at the door to see Kris walking over to Vitane, she tensed up “God dammit” she mumbled. She finally met Forrest’s gaze “No” she simply stated.

When Forrest redirected them to Vitane and Jason, Lola walked with caution and her eyes locked on Vitane. She sat down on an adjacent loveseat and leaned close to Vitane having the front of their knees touch. She intertwined her fingers with Forrest, gripping tightly enough to make her knuckles turn white. Just analyzing Vitane's face made her long for an escape Please just teleport us out Lola thought desperately.

Jason furrowed his brows at her, his mind began shouting anxiously at a million things he could have done wrong. He shook his head and remembered Lola’s words It’s not you. He was startled when Vitane gripped his arm tightly as the cafe door sounded. He glanced over at the door and back at Vitane as the stranger approached “Who is this guy?” he asked. He brushed a hand through his hair and sat up straight with a hard expression on his face.

“I’ve been looking for you. Come on it’s time to go”
Jason gave Kris a look and then back at Vitane. He casually moved her grip from his arm to intertwine their fingers. He sensed the threat and his eyebrows furrowed but he took a deep breath to remain calm, he didn’t know the situation after all. He tried his best to make light of it “She’s on a date” he replied smoothly.

He exchanged a look with Forrest when they joined them "I was just taking Vitane back to her grandma. You see, she's very worried about you. Would seriously hate to worry her, she's prone to heart attacks.”
Jason eyed him carefully and lifted a brow “You seem awfully merry considering the situation”
“That’s none of your concern”
“Well it is my concern, I’m sure if Vitane wanted to see her grandma she would have mentioned it by now” he snapped.
“She did, to me! Lola interjected. She gave Jason a look before she refocused her attention to Vitane. “Sorry to ruin the surprise V” she smiled “She actually wanted to introduce you to her, you know, since you guys are getting so serious.”
Jason gave Vitane’s hand a light squeeze “Then it’s settled, we’ll go see her after coffee”
“Probably not a good idea, Vitane’s grandma is very frail and not fond of newcomers.”
Jason let out an exasperated sigh, this guy wasn’t going to fuck off easily. He glared at Kris and bluntly stated “You seem to know a lot, how about you let Vitane talk for herself or you could just fuck off since you so rudely interrupted us.”

Vitane didn't answer when Jason asked who Kris was. It was like she had forgotten how to speak. Her voice was caught in her throat.
"Come on it's time to go." Vitane didn't move, but Jason moved her hand for her to rest on his knee. She gripped it with a force that was even noticeable to a demon. She was terrified. Yes, she was terrified of these demons too, but she and Kris had a past and there was a reason for her fear.

At the mention of her grandma, Vitane's eyes shot up to finally meet Kris's. Her emotions were overflowing. Anger, fear, regret, anxiety. It was overwhelming her. But now it sounded like he was threatening her. All over again. Well she wasn't going to take it this time. She got out for a reason.

Vitane stood abruptly, surprising the entire group. She still stood behind the table but her intentions were for Kris alone.

"I don't know where the fuck you get off thinking that you can just waltz in here and make demands." If Vitane had been a demon, her eyes would have been black. The rage she felt towards Kristopher now was unbearable. It was starting to sink in that he might have her grandma hidden away. What if she was tied up? The image infuriated her and she slammed a fist hard onto the table making the dishes clatter nosily.

Kristopher's face lit up with a grin at her outburst. This was amusing to him. He chuckled lightly then simply replied,
"Well, there's no need for that. I simply ask that you come with me if you want to see your grandmother alive." His eyes lit up from the words he spilled to them.

Vitane instantly leaped from her seat and over Jason. She had Kristopher by the collar of his jacket and she had tears stinging her eyes from anger.
"You tell me where she is, you bastard!" Kristopher only silently smiled as he watched Vitane's tantrum.
"You tell me right now!" She let him go and slapped him hard against his cheek. The cafe quieted down and everyone focused on the couple standing.
Kristopher's smile never disappeared and he now grabbed Vitane's arm making her squirm.
"How about you come with me instead?"

Forrest stood from his seat the second he saw Kris's hand grasp Vitane's forearm. His teeth were gripped together with incredible force. He was holding himself back from exploding out of this human facade.

"I suggest you let her go. Immediately." Kris followed instructions only because he was completely amused by this guy. He faced Forrest now and smirked.

"What do you even want with Vitane?"
"Well that's for me to know and you dot dot dot."

Jason got to his feet and gently moved Vitane behind him as he took a protective stance. “I think you should go before anyone one gets hurt”
Kris glanced over at Jason and grinned “Now where is the fun in that?”
Jason scoffed and ran a hand through his hair, he rubbed his chin with his thumb. He was trying his best to stay calm but this guy was hitting a nerve and his hands were vibrating with fury. He shook his head and took hold of Vitane's hand “Lets just go” he mumbled.
As he stepped forward Kris placed a hand on Jason’s torso and without thought Jason punched the guy square in the jaw.

Kris stumbled back a couple steps and chuckled as he wiped the blood from his mouth “Nice punch.”
Jason lifted a brow, Kris’ eyes flashed devilishly as he took a quick step forward and returned the favor. Jason’s head jolted back as he rubbed his cheek in surprise. His hit had been inhumane and now Jason was pissed. His breath became low, he wanted to maintain control but he struggled as his kitsune fangs slowly formed and his eyes turned completely white. He bellowed at Kris and charged at him, pinning him to the ground. He threw a couple punches at his face until Kris grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and threw him off. Jason rolled himself up and Kris was also on his feet. Jason took a stride forward and uppercut Kris in the chin. Kris flew back and smashed his head to the ground. He gave his head a quick shake before he jumped to his feet. He dodged another punch from Jason and grabbed Jason by the neck and dangled him in the air for a moment before he launched him onto the table. The dishes shattered beneath Jason’s body and fell to the ground.

Lola let out a small scream as Jason’s body flung right in front of her. She stared at him with wide and terrified eyes, he was transforming. She pressed herself back against the booth unable to catch her breath, she was feeling herself going into panic.

Suddenly thick blue smoke began to form around her, her head snapped up in Riley’s direction and she shouted “Riley don’t!”
A moment later the smoke cleared and Lola found herself standing in her bedroom with Riley by her side.
She fell to her knees and began pressing her skin in horror “RILEY THEY CHIPPED ME!! You have to take me back!” she panicked.
Riley crouched in front of her “Lola it’s okay, it’s okay. You’re safe here”
Tears began pouring down Lola’s face “Riley!! I’m chipped I might explode right now!!”
“You would have already done so by now if that was the case.”
"Fuck! I don't know how much time I have, please Riley please!!"
"Lola relax, you're okay, really you are. The chip would have killed you before we got here if that was the case..."
Through a waterfall of tears, she slowly looked up at him and gawked “That’s comforting” she said with slight amusement in her voice. Riley grinned "Relax dear, you're okay." He stood up and reached forward to pull her onto her feet as well. He brushed a thumb across her cheeks to wipe away the tears. His eyebrows creased “Lola, you’ve been missing for more than a week, what is going on. Who were those guys.”
“You have to take me back Ri!”
Riley shook his head “Not when you’re like this. Talk to me, you tell me everything, what is going on. Where have you been?”
Lola took a step back and began to pace around her room. She was panicking, her mind was screaming and she couldn’t calm down. She sat on the edge of her bed and stared at her zebra carpet as she attempted to regain control of her breath. Her body was shaking, she was free and she was intact. An overwhelming feeling encompassed her as she placed a hand over her racing heart “They are the Carson brothers” she said slowly.
Riley’s mouth fell slightly open “You were on their list?”
Lola met his hard gaze and nodded “You know of them?” Riley walked over and sat down next to her, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder “Of course I know of them, they’re fucking terrifying...rogue supernaturals.”
“Then you know why you have to take me back. Riley you taking me like this puts you in danger. I had a plan, I was going to escape I swear!”
Riley lifted a brow and shook his head “No you weren’t. You can believe that all you want Ruby but the moment that guy put his arm around you, I saw your face.”
Lola pulled away and stared at him with an insulted expression on her face “I still would have escaped Ri!"
"With all due respect Lo, as my best friend, you would not, you were all googly eyes."
"Well, that's not fair, you can't just say that. I mean sure he’s sweet and gave me a fucking alchemy lab and he’s not bad in the sack-”
“You slept with him!”
Lola shrugged “We were having a moment” she argued.
Riley lifted his brows and scoffed “A moment?! Tell me Lola, what creature has given you stockholm syndrome?
“STOCKHOLM? I don’t have stockholm syndrome” she protested.
Riley removed his arm from her and leaned away glaring. "You may be fucking terrified but there is a gleam in your eye. You have stockholm.
“No I just, I don't! Riley, you have to take me back, he’s a 300 year old demon he’ll crush you in an instant”
“A demon? Okay for one that’s sick, second there is no way I’m taking you back to some guy who has a reserved seat in hell and third I can protect you!”
Lola got to her feet, she was raging “Drop the cocky attitude Ri, he would crush you in a second and I’m not some damsel! I can get out, just give me like, give me a week.”
Riley rolled his eyes “So what you can get seven more nights with him”
Lola frowned, she wanted to slap him but she knew everything he was saying made sense, the chip hadn’t gone off. She was fine, she was free, why couldn’t she just accept it? She blew air out of her nostrils and shook her head “I can’t go like this, not with you in the middle. Please understand.”
"I can't do that. Lola you're free"
"Riley, I love you but please trust me when I say he'll find you. You'll get killed over this. You have to send me back please, please, please trust me!"
"I do but this is insanity, I'm a wizard. I can protect you."
"You're 26, he's 300, he's been around much longer. I promise you he's faced a wizard before. Riley please don't do this, please. You have to send me back."
Riley couldn’t understand it, the girl he grew up with, the one who always put herself above all others and out of harm's way wanted to get back to the fire. He rubbed his chin as he pondered with their eyes locked on each other. Finally he nodded “Fine, I don't know why I'm agreeing but I trust your judgement. I'm not giving you a week, you have three days then I’m coming to get you. But I’m not taking you back to the cafe. They can meet you at their home. Just imagine it as I teleport you, okay.” His eyes filled with tears as he stood up and pulled her into him. They held onto each other tightly for several minutes. Riley kissed her on the forehead “I’m going to regret this”
Lola nodded “Probably” she flatly stated. Riley grimaced as he let go of her. He took off the black gold bracelet she had given him when they were younger and slid it onto her wrist. "You know how much this means to me, whatever happens in there, at some point, you'll have to give it back." Lolas eyes filled with tears and she hugged him again. She wiped her face as she took a couple steps back and exhaled deeply. She gave him a weak smile “Just three days”

As Riley was about to conjure his transportation spell, black smoke appeared between the two of them and a hooded creature appeared in its place. Lola’s mouth fell open “The Hunters” she mumbled.
All that could be seen from the hood was razor sharp teeth smiling at her. Hello Lola he hissed.
The color from Lola’s cheeks vanished as she stood there petrified I hear you found yourself in a new dungeon. Well, before you return, we have a message for the brothers”
“Lola run” Riley sternly demanded. Lola turned on her heel and ran out of her bedroom door and into the hall but it was no use. On the other side of the hall stood another hooded creature with a bow and arrow aimed right at her. She had no time to react, the arrow was launched and pinned her in her right shoulder. She stumbled to the ground and stared at the smokey arrow in horror. Her arm turned completely black and the shadow was slowly enveloping the rest of her body. She felt woozy when thick blue smoke formed around her. She was transported back to her room in the castle. She wanted to scream but she was too petrified and she felt lighthead. She tapped the arrow with her finger and it dissipated but the blackness kept crawling down her body “The shadow of death” she mumbled before she fainted.

Jason gave his head a shake to regain control in order to avoid transforming. His eyes returned to their icy blue state and his teeth retracted. He jumped to his feet and let out a small grunt, his nostrils flaring. As Kris was charging at him again he conjured a ball of flame in his hand and tossed it. It hit Kris in the stomach burning through his shirt and part of his skin, but to Jason’s surprise the gash healed fairly quickly. “You’re no human” Jason stated in a low voice “Fair enough.”

The two met in the middle throwing punch after hard punch. Blood spewed from each of their mouths. Jason leg swept him and Kris fell on his back. He bent forward and grabbed Kris by the collar of his jacket, the bastard was still smiling through a blooded grit. Jason let out a low growl and threw Kris against the wall. He slid to the ground and Jason walked up to him and grabbed him by the neck. He pinned him up against the wall and let his claws grow into his skin, Kris’ blood began spewing at his fingertips. “Get Vitane out of here” he demanded.

Kris’ smile had finally vanished as he jolted at the pain but it wasn’t over. He reached up and twisted Jason’s hand out of his neck with great force, it sliced his skin but the healing was rapid, he was not phased. Jason’s hand was practically crushed as Kris pushed him off with is other causing Jason to stumble to the ground. Jason did not hesitate to get back on the ball of his feet, part of him was starting to enjoy this fight, finally a worthy opponent. He kicked Kris in the torso and Kris jolted back against the wall. Kris then lunged himself at Jason and pinned him to the floor of the cafe. He wrapped his hand firmly around Jason’s neck, Jason struggled to breath but only for a moment. He conjured a spit of lava from his throat and it hit Kris in between his eyes. Kris fell back in agony, holding his face. Jason rearranged himself on his knees and leaned forward. He wrapped his hand around his neck once more and this time he was burning through Kris’ skin, with fire in his eyes, he was ready to end it.

Vitane was lightly pushed to one side and her eyes rose to see Jason coming to her aide. Her heart wanted to skip a beat. This man that knew nothing of her past or who she really was was eager to protect her. She made a small smile and sat back in the booth. Vitane eagerly took Jason's hand when he offered to leave but Kris stopped them and before she knew it, fists were flying. Vitane cowered in the corner of the booth, trying to get as far from the action as possible. Her head snapped over toward Lola and her eyes widened, as she watched her only friend become enveloped in smoke. She reached out to her but where their hands should have touched, there was only air there and her image disappeared.

Her jaw quivered in fright and she tried to control her body, but it was convulsing too. She started to slink underneath the booth to have a little more protection but a large hand reached down to her and encouraged her to get up. She accepted and rose with Forrest's help. He grabbed her face in either of his hands, he looked so worried and lost.

"What happened to Lola?" He asked her. She shook her head and shrugged, tears streaming down her face.
"I don't know, I don't know!" She cried desperately. Another crash from behind them sent Vitane into Forrest's arms for protection. He held her and carried her outside of the cafe. The two watched the fight through the window. Forrest wasn't about to get involved, he knew Jason would have gotten angry if he made things unfair by joining. That's just how they were. Stay in your fight, I'll stay in mine. At least most of the time.

Inside the diner Kristopher was being burned around the neck by Jason. He squirmed some under the pain, but through it all, he let out a little laugh and smirked.

"Wonder if.....you're flammable.....too..." He said through gasps before snapping his fingers. An explosion emitted that second, the windows were blown out and the door swung off its hinges. By now everyone that had occupied the diner had scattered and only Vitane and Forrest felt the heat and pressure from the explosion. Shards of glass flew past them and Forrest threw himself around Vitane to protect her.

When the two looked up and saw the wreckage, Vitane shrieked in fear of losing Jason. Smoke billowed out of the windows and there were a few small fires lit inside the diner. Vitane fidgeted against Forrest's grasp and he allowed her out. She shot through the doorway and scanned the area quickly. Kristopher was gone, but Jason was there, on his back. He had taken most of the blow and Vitane dropped to her knees, weeping next to him. Seeing his charred body. It hurt. It also reminded her how much she cared for this man. She scooped his head up gently and rested it in her lap. She smoothed off the bits of soot and wiped away the blood on his face then brushed his hair back out of his eyes.

"Please get up." She begged through tears.

Her mind was spinning, her heart racing, she could feel the darkness taking over. By now the shadow from the arrow had engulfed at least half of her body. She felt as though her soul was being ripped from her. Her eyes became black as thick liquid settled in, the castle walls of her bedroom had vanished, she couldn’t see anything anymore. “Blackness, darkness, my fate. A touch of fairy dust, the nail of vampire, the lava of demon’s tongue, a witch’s hair and shit ton of holy water…” she recited this over and over again, it was the recipe for delens tenebris. She knew it well though she had never needed to create it. She mumbled the potion to herself until her voice became drowned out by the shadows.

Goosebumps rose on her arms, she felt as though someone was crushing her heart. She couldn’t breathe and soon enough, she fainted again.

Lola’s mind entered a shadow world. She stood in a field surrounded by black lilies. The sky above was violet with smoky clouds lingering across a bright full moon with stars twinkling by the millions. Far behind her was an eerie looking forest, the trees were black and the ground was foggy. In the distance, ahead of her, she could see a beach, the waves were easily six times her sizes as they crashed on the shore. It was an interestingly calm day despite the chaotic waves in the distance, no breeze in the air and the atmosphere was fairly warm.

Lola stood in a dress, as she always did, a symbol of pure bliss. She dangled the bracelet she had given to Riley, she found it odd that it was on her. She then observed her arms, they were painted in Forrest's tattoos, she traced them with her finger curious as to why she possessed them. She bit her lower lip and let out a small sigh. She brushed some hair behind ear and then admired her settings. Why was she here and why was it so familiar?

Then came by her side a dark figure at least seven feet tall. He wore a long raggy robe with a hood covering a dark unseen face and he wore a black gold crown of thorns. He had black angelic wings, his feathers looked metallic as they reflected slightly off the moonlight. The beast held a scythe in one of it’s boney hands and it placed its other on Lola’s shoulder. She looked up at the creature with saddened eyes “How long until you decide?”
The creature pointed at the moon, it had transformed into a clock, it was five and a half minutes until midnight. “Third time's a charm” she said in deep sorrow. She glanced up at Death and spoke in worry “Tell me old friend, is Riley okay?”
The creature nodded slowly, a small smile appeared on Lola’s face.

She watched as the minutes ticked by on the moon and with every second she felt evermore weightless.

His skin pulsed, it was a sensation as if he was trying to heal but why did he need to? Everything was black, he saw nothing and his ears were ringing. His mind, for once, was so quiet. Where had his intrusive thoughts gone, where had his mind wandered off to?

He felt numb and he felt lost. A void of emptiness that he couldn’t make sense of. Minutes passed, how long had he been lying here and why couldn't he open his eyes? Suddenly he felt like his head had been propped up, he felt fingers gently brushing his face and then, there it was. A wave of sudden agony exploded through is body, he began to shake and let out a tormented cry. What burned so bad? Why couldn’t he see it? He felt his body convulse, he needed to break free and shed this skin of torture.

Then, it was like angel spoke as he heard weeping “Please get up." He wanted to, he needed to reach this angel and this beauty. He needed to kiss her and hold her and he needed to be with her. His misery didn’t matter, he needed to see her face at least one more time. He felt as though his skin was trying to pull together. He creased his brows as he concentrated Heal, heal, heal but it was useless and everything went silent again.

Forrest had taken Vitane and Jason to the hospital, he was admitted immediately and went under intensive care. The procedure was brutal. Every touch and every drop of liquid felt like lava kissing his wounds. He hadn’t felt this level of pain since his attempted suicide in the year 2068. It felt like worms and snakes crawling across his body, the gashes would spill with his dark blood as they worked hard to heal. Would this misery ever end?

Finally, it felt like all the pain was lifted. His breathing seemed to return to normal, he could feel himself again. His ears had stopped ringing and all that could be heard was slow breathing and the beeping of a monitor. How long has it been? Where am I? What happened? A searing pain shot through his head, he slowly lifted a hand and pressed his temple as he gasped. “Fuck.” he mumbled. He rubbed his eyes and took a deep breath as he slowly opened them. The light was bright, for a moment he could have sworn he was in heaven especially looking upon the beautiful face that appeared before him. He lifted his hand to Vitane’s cheek and furrowed his eyebrows “Are you okay” he asked gently, completely disregarding his slightly crippled state, he was healing after all.

Vitane encouraged Forrest to do something, desperate to bring Jason back to consciousness. Her tears and blubbering were ignored and the brutish man threw Jason over his shoulder without a word before transporting them to the hospital using his watch.

. . .

She lost count of how many terrible tv shows passed on the small screened television in the waiting room. Her mind couldn't focus on anything other than how Jason was doing and when she would be able to see him next. She obsessively would return to the receptionist just to be reminded that she would be told as soon as they knew something. Yeah, right.

Forrest hadn't waited around long, only long enough to get a time frame of when to return for Jason. He left his phone number at the front desk and without saying anything to Vitane, he disappeared again. He was so worried about Lola, he must have gone to look for her. Lola. Her mind finally focused on someone else and for what felt like the hundredth time today, her red eyes stung at the corners as she tried to hold in the tears. She grit her teeth as drops began to fall. If she was hurt she would do anything and everything in her power to avenge her. Then the receptionist interrupted her thoughts and closed in on Vitane who swiftly stood before she reached her.

"Right this way, ma'am." Vitane followed in step with the nurse and they turned down several hallways before she welcomed her into Jason's room. He was still unconscious, but Vitane was just happy to see him without the significant amount of burns or ash all over him.

She ran to him and threw her arms over him and just cried. She was so happy to see him okay. The nurse held out a hand to try and stop Vitane, but she froze for a second and sighed. There was no point now.
"Just use that remote on the bed to alert us if you need anything." She whispered, then closed the door for them.

. . .

After what felt like forever and a day, he began stirring. Vitane shot up out of her seat and held onto the bars on the side of the bed. She flinched when he gasped and wanted so badly to take away all of his pain. She waited there in silence to see if he was about to actually wake up. He rubbed his eyes and a sigh of relief expelled from her lungs. She held his cheek and brushed it with her thumb, looking down at him with teardrops still raining from her eyes, but at a slower pace now.

“Are you okay” Her tears were suddenly blocked off and her brows wrinkled slightly. She wiped away her tears with a hand that slid across her face then narrowed her eyes at him again. Had she heard him right? Was he aware they were in a fucking hospital? She wasn't sure whether to get irritated or to laugh.

She stifled a chuckle, "Oh, yeah, ya know, I'm in super critical condition. They're not sure if I'm gonna make it." Without hesitating she lowered the railing on one side and slid onto the bed with him taking extra precaution to not disturb him or hurt him in any way. She giggled to herself and gently rested her head on his chest. She wasn't sure how these feelings for him had grown and developed to something she never even imagined. Now she was totally encompassed and there seemed to be no turning back. And she was totally fine with that.

After dropping Vitane and Jason at the hospital, Forrest quickly left. His mind was buzzing with so many thoughts and emotions that he didn't teleport exactly where he had intended. He looked up to the large metal doors that were twenty feet taller than he was. He didn't want to waste a single moment so he closed his eyes and focused. Large dark shadows formed at his feet and grew to double his size. When he opened his eyes he was in a shadow realm. It was much like viewing the real world through dark glasses but everything around him seemed to ooze and move in waves. Everything was dark but items and people were outlined in a purple that oozed even brighter. He crossed through walls and floors before reaching the top floor. He expelled the shadows and the world turned back to normal for him.

He had guided the shadows to a room that was a sort of headquarters for the castle and also served as a command center. One wall to the right was home to what seemed like a hundred different screens, all showing different rooms of the castle. The wall directly next to it on the left had a large supercomputer with a control panel beneath it. Two servants sat in front of the computer, several others were monitoring the screens to stay aware of break ins or disturbances.

One servant that sat in front of the computer rose to greet Forrest, but Forrest wasn't in the nicest mood.
"Where is Lord Jason, sir?
"Have you seen her?!" He bellowed, clicking through the surveillance videos.
"Miss Lola, your Grace?"
"Of course! Who else would I be talking about?" He turned to shout at the servant. His emotions were getting the best of him. He sighed and held his head in his hands, unmoving for what seemed like a long time. None of the servants moved or spoke either, in fear of him.
"Nathan is dead." He finally said aloud. A few gasps sounded and some whispers started up between the other servants.
"And I don't even know how or why yet...But I need to find Lola."
She's here! A servant said off to the side. Forrest picked up his head quickly and his hands instantaneously dropped to his sides. He peered at the monitor that the servant had stopped on and he came to realization that she was actually in her own room.

He closed his eyes and again went to the shadow realm. A few frightened servants moved away from him.

He was in Lola's room in less than a minute. His eyes enlarged at the site of her. She was almost completely covered by a strange shadow, but not one he recognized. He was next to her in two strides and he swiftly removed the arrow. He hurriedly removed his shirt to hold to her wound in case there was a good amount of bleeding. He created a tourniquet out of it in case, then swung his arm under her legs to pick her up. He carried her straight to the doctor they had at the castle. He examined her closely for what seemed like forever to Forrest. He impatiently paced back and forth in the office, sometimes folding his arms in front of him, sometimes clasping his hands behind his back. He was clearly a nervous wreck.

"Sir, there's no need to worry anymore, I have her well taken care of." The doctor assured. Forrest's eyes glared at him and he wanted to retort but he saw that Lola really did look much better and he refrained. The doctor had concocted a potion and propped open Lola's mouth to force her to swallow it.

"She will be fine soon, I assure you." He promised while wiping his hands on a rag. The doctor exited and left the two alone and Forrest waited beside her loyally.

The hands on the clock ticked by, Lola bowed her head as a minute remained. “This is the closest I’ve ever gotten” she sighed. “You must be excited to finally take me.” Death did not respond but she could sense the truth behind her words. This realm had become all too familiar. She had stood here twice before and the closest she had ever gotten to death was a minute and a half.

Her life began to flicker before her eyes and all the good things surfaced. She saw her mom embracing her face, telling her how much she loved her. She saw the day she met Riley, his eyes gleaming as they played on the swingset. She saw a sunset, it took her breath away like it had the day she saw it. The colors were a mixture of purple, pink and orange and it was fading over the ocean liner, it had lasted for several minutes and she wished she could sit through it again. She saw silly things like the day she grew breasts, the first time she got drunk and the first time she got high. She saw her first dance, her first perfected potion and her first kiss. She saw it all and then, she saw Forrest. The memory lingered for a long moment, she lay next to him on his bed. Her hand resting on his chest, she felt so small next to him and yet like a perfect puzzle piece. Her eyes were locked onto his beautiful golden ones. He looked so at peace as he gazed upon her. Why did this man bring her such joy and fear all in one and why was he significant enough to appear?

The memories faded, a single tear rolled down her cheek, this was it. Tubular bells sounded, the clock boomed announcing the last ten seconds. Lola held her breath as she watched with wide eyes, the end was here. The wind began to pick up and the waves in the distance grew more fierce. She felt cold and she felt scared. She wasn’t ready, she didn’t want to be taken but with every chime her heart dropped.

Suddenly, dark liquid began to drip from her mouth. She creased her brows and lifted her hand to wipe it. “Delens tenebris” she mumbled as she recognized the substance. The tubular bells had stopped with one second to spare, she glanced up at Death feeling perplexed. She opened her mouth to speak but it was like she was flung back into reality.

Lola bolted upright in the bed breathing heavily with sweat droplets on her forehead. She placed a hand over her racing heart and stared at her legs with wide eyes as black tears poured. “Oh my God.” She swallowed hard and dug the palms of her hands into the mattress, she squeezed her eyes shut and took a couple breaths to calm herself. She began counting from ten and when she reached one she slowly opened her eyes again.

She looked over at Forrest and a grateful smile appeared on her flushed face. He was so calm and there was worry in his eyes. He looked so beautiful, she wanted to kiss him but she felt a lump in her throat. She vaguely remembered how she got back to the castle. Her mind shifted to thoughts of Riley and The Hunters, she shuddered, Riley must have transported her here.

She shifted her eyes from Forrest’s face and stared at her bare feet. She twinkled her toes in slight disbelief, she was alive and she was here. She began sobbing and dropped her face in her hands “Thank god” she cried. Her lip quivered and goosebumps rose on her arms, she was overjoyed. She wiped the tears and looked over at Forrest again “I just wanted to go home” she simply stated through saddened eyes. She touched her skin where the arrow had punctured, the wound was bruised. That’s when she also noticed the bracelet from Riley; she began tracing it with her finger and her heart pulsed. His words rang repeatedly in her mind Three days, three days, three days.
She took a breath, bit her lip and rolled her eyes “I’m so fucked” she mumbled.

"Oh, yeah, ya know, I'm in supercritical condition. They're not sure if I'm gonna make it."
Jason dropped his hand from Vitane’s cheek as he became aware of his surroundings. Her pierced eyes of confusion had triggered a memory filling the void. The fight replayed in his head and he recalled an explosion. Frustration settled in as he couldn’t comprehend how he lost. He was so sure of his opponent but even after two hundred and fifty years this world never ceased to surprise him. He glanced down at his body, he was nearly healed minus a big gash on his leg that struggled. Great, another scar. He looked pretty good considering but irritation clouded his mind, was he truly immortal? He had just endured the most brutal blast and part of him knew that even without the help from the medics he would have healed eventually.

His thoughts shifted to his previous visit at this hospital. His friend Eli had found him in the woods by chance, he was in equally horrid condition. Jason winced at the memory and brushed his suicidal thoughts aside, no need for dark thoughts at a time like this, especially when she was here. Looking upon her beautiful face he recalled his urgency to return to her. When she got into the bed with him he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her in closely. Fear in his eyes, he was sure that he had lost her and he would need to thank his brother later.

He brushed his hand along her arm as he rested his cheek against her head. Why was she still here? She had every opportunity to flee and he would have let her, that was supposed to be the plan right? He had so many questions but none were worth ruining this moment. He never wanted to let her go as he felt her breath and nothing could ever compare. He gently lifted her up closer to him and placed a finger under her chin. He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips, butterflies fluttered, this is all he wanted. He breathed into her and brushed some hair from her face. He pulled away and gazed upon her beautiful green eyes “I’m ready to go home” he said softly.

With the remote at his bedside he called upon a nurse. Jason let go of Vitane so she could do a final check up to discharge him. He no longer had a shirt and his leather jacket was ruined, he grimaced, his jacket meant the world to him. His pants were in decent condition so he slipped them on and tucked the jacket under his arm. He took hold of Vitane’s hand and they made their way to reception, he signed out on the patient sheet and told them not to worry about calling Forrest. They made their way to the front doors and nearby were two teleportation devices. He stepped on one and held Vitane close and they teleported into his room. He let go of Vitane and dropped his jacket by his feet. He plopped down on the edge of his bed and brushed a hand through his hair, two close calls in one day, he sighed. He analyzed his torso, thank goodness for all his tattoos as they hid his scars so well.

He looked up at Vitane his face calm and blank but his mind wandering, why did he feel this way? He felt like she needed to understand him and to know more about him, the desire was resentful but this woman suddenly meant everything to him. “I’m sorry I killed you parents” he said slowly “Truthfully I don’t remember much about my Dublin.” He dropped his gaze and stared at his hands as he spoke “That was the first time in about a hundred years that I longed to heal. I’ve tried killing myself probably about three times your age. Immortality is a curse and you shouldn’t endure my misery. I don’t know why you came to my side or frankly why you care. I know I should but I don’t ever want to let you go.” His eyes became clouded with tears as he finally looked upon her face “But you have every right to leave Vitane, the door is yours and you may go.”

Laying against him was all the comfort Vitane needed. She sighed happily into his chest but was surprised when he kissed her. She broke the kiss of early, looking away from him. She may have been happy he was alive, but right now she just enjoyed him holding her. And after everything she wasn't sure if she could kiss him happily again.

She nodded to him and rose from the bed when he said he wanted to go home. She, too, was eager to get out of this hospital. She could use a cigarette.

Soon they were in Jason's room and Vitane silently observed the change of scenery. She was swept up in viewing the art on his walls when his voice broke through her shallow thoughts. Her hand dropped from where it had grazed the edge of a frame. She remained turned away and motionless as he spoke. Her heart sank. She couldn't even fathom living that many lifetimes. In the short one she had experienced she suffered from masochism herself, so to attempt several times, it didn't surprise her in the slightest.

"I know I should but I don’t ever want to let you go.”
She turned on her heel and Jason could see the tears that had welled up in her eyes too. Even though it hurt to think of losing her mother, she had gone through that grief already. But to imagine a life without Jason now seemed preposterous.

She closed the gap between them and hugged him to her tightly as tears streamed down her cheeks. She pulled away from the hug but just long enough so that their lips could press together. She wasn't sure why she was so eager to forgive him in this moment. She kissed him over and over as the tears slowly began to dry. She sniffed and sat up, wiping her face with the back of her hand. She reached down to hold his face but her hand moved in slow motion. She could feel the pulse of her slowing heartbeat. It's echo reverberated in her ears as she fell in slow motion and crashed against the ground. Then the world went black.

Forrest shot upright out of his seat the second Lola sat up. It hadn't taken very long for the doctor's potion to hit her, but it had been significant enough that Forrest felt the time drip by slower than he had ever experienced before. He didn't want to crowd or overwhelm her so he refrained from throwing his arms around her in relief.

He watched her intently, astonished by the black drops flowing from her eyes and he grew angry although his face hid it. This had to be another warning from The Hunters. He squeezed his eyes tight for several reasons. He didn't want angry tears pouring out, he didn't want Lola to see his eyes change, and he didn't want to see her in such a fragile state. His jaw quivered from rage. He slowly breathed out of his nose and when he opened his eyes, there was no way to recognize any amount of animosity on his features.

She was here and she was alive. That's what he needed to remember. He could be irate later. His eyes dropped as Lola began weeping. He forced himself not to get emotional as well. Their eyes soon met again.
"I just wanted to go home.”

He briskly turned away from the bed to face the opposite wall. For the first time upon her arrival, he felt angry towards Lola. Had he not been a worthy prospect? Was all of this a waste of time? Clearly she was confessing to him. He sighed, infuriated, and ran a hand over his short hair. He wasn't sure what to do about this. He didn't look at her as a slave so he would never punish her as one. But she had admitted to killing Nathan, he was almost positive, and that hurt.

"You want to leave that bad then go ahead and go. I'll deactivate your chip." The words had sounded calm as they always did when he spoke to her, but you could feel the emotion behind them nonetheless. Without looking at her he exited the room and did just that. He lingered in the control room after and he watched the screens to see her still in the Doctor's office. He grunted then left and went to his room where he began to pace.

Lola couldn’t believe his words. She felt astonished that he had finally agreed to let her go and her body began to shake. She stared wide at the room in front of her as he left without saying another word. Wait, that’s it? She had longed to hear those words but something about it didn’t feel right. Her chip how now been deactivated and she was free. She could run home and call her mom, she could go hug Riley and celebrate with a fat joint, she could party tonight and sleep in her own bed and yet suddenly she didn’t want any of it. All this effort and frustration and he just agreed, what the fuck is up with that?

She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and slipped into her highheels. Her mind was racing Who the fuck does he think he is? She stormed into his room, she wasn’t thinking straight. First with waking up next to him naked, then Jason’s whole bloody ordeal then getting stabbed by a fucking Hunter and now she was free?!

“So what the fuck?” she snapped slamming the door behind her. She stared at him with raged eyes of confusion “That’s it then? You’ll just let me go? Tell me Forrest do enjoy torturing me because I’m feeling woozy as shit right now and I have no idea what’s happening. First you rob me from my life, threaten me, force me to live in this fucking castle saying I’ll never get to leave, treat me like a princess and then you just agree? Fuck. I just saw death again for the third time in my life today! I’ve had a day that I can’t even explain where the fuck I’ve been. You don’t even talk to me or tell me why but you’re just finally agreeing to let me go despite the fact that you swore you wouldn’t. Why am I so pissed at you? So what, are you just telling me I can walk away so I come crawling back? No. Just no. That’s not how this works. If I’m leaving it’s because I say so and I’m just-” Lola broke off and stared out of his bedroom window feeling completely perplexed. She blew some hair out of her face and crossed her arms, she felt like a child and couldn’t comprehend why she was so furious. She took a deep breath and then lifted a brow as she met his gaze. She couldn’t help but roll her eyes “I’ve been avoiding it this whole time but fuck you, you know that? You’re just unbelievable and unpredictable. I can usually figure anyone out within seconds, but you, no I can’t figure you out.”

She gave her head a shake and wiped her face out of exhaustion. Her mind was clearing but butterflies lingered in her stomach, she couldn’t believe what she was feeling and the words just flowed out of her so innocently. “Why does you setting me free, make me fall in love with you even more?”

Jason pulled Vitane into him, he wanted to tear her clothes off but then the mood shifted. It happened so quickly, he was so exhausted from his day that he hadn’t been able to catch her as she crashed to the ground. “Holy shit” he jumped from his bed and knelt down next to her. “Vitane!” He pressed a couple fingers to her neck to feel her pulse, her heart was barely beating. His heart dropped and he scooped her in his arms and rested her on his bed. Panic began to set in, would this misery ever end? He hurried over to his leather jacket and pulled out his phone. The device was significantly damaged from the explosion. Fuck. He smashed it against the wall and it shattered into several pieces. Why had she fallen? Did he do something wrong? His head began to pulse in a frenzy.

He made his way into his ensuite bathroom and grabbed a cloth from beneath the vanity. He rinsed it under warm water and rang it out. He made his way back into the room and leaned over Vitane to place the cloth on her head. He then walked over to his computer and called the doctor through his Skype app “My room now” he demanded and hung up. He began to pace impatiently, his eyes fixated on Vitane.

He couldn’t handle this. The thought of losing her was unbearable. Today had been too much and this was the cherry on top. He wanted to burn something and he could barely control himself. I can’t do this again, I can’t lose her too. I just...FUCK! He punched a nearby wall and it grumbled beneath his fist creating a hole about five times its size. He needed to calm down, he didn't know what was wrong and it was too early to blame himself but she looked so frail.

He took a breath, he had worked so hard to suppress his temper and he couldn't let that discipline go to waste. He needed to be logical and he needed answers. He walked over next to Vitane again and took a hold of her hand as he sank to the ground next to her. "What is happening..." he mumbled his eyes filled with sorrow "Wake up, please come back to me" .

The medic came running in and began doing some check-ups on Vitane. Jason watched with an empty gaze, he felt hollow and he couldn’t bare this.
She’s breathing but she’s really cold sir.
“Just do whatever it takes” he stated lifelessly.

Thud...thud. Vitane was rigid with pain. Her heart hurt and it felt like it was trying to push out of her chest. She wanted to grasp her rib cage out of agony. She didn't want to experience this again. This was the worst part of her disease, the long term affects. The voice in her head had pushed and pushed; shave off a few more calories, throw up that last meal. And she was suffering because of it. Her heart was failing her.

She wanted to reach out to Jason, his voice droned in her ears and it pained her to feel his emotions. He didn't need to worry, she had chosen this path anyway.

Thud..........thud. Her blood pressure and heart rhythm had already decreased significantly. It felt like her organs were twisting around each other in a murderous dance in her chest cavity.

She could feel herself being lifted from the ground, but her body was lifeless and wouldn't allow her to stop him. She didn't need to be taken care of. She had chosen this after all.

Thud.................thud. Her mind was dizzy now and it was hard to place voices and who they belonged to. She felt cold patches being pressed to various parts of her body and soon the melancholy repetition of a heart monitor began, showing just how slow her pulse had become. Frantic hands worked over her now, trying to bring her worthless body back so she could do it all over again. She was tired of fighting the voice in her head, tired of staring at food as if looking was eating but without the calories. She was sick of worried glances or the pain and lightheaded feeling she endured. It no longer brought her joy to successfully skip another day's worth of meals, but torture. However, she would never deny the voice in her head, as if it held a gun to her temple, she wouldn't hesitate to listen.

Her awareness was fading, the sound of the heart monitor slowed and her mind grew ever heavy before she lost total consciousness.

Forrest wasn't able to pace long. Lola barged into his room and upon her arrival Forrest wanted her to get out of his sight, but he listened while keeping his eyes averted and brows knit together.

At first they had both been mad, although he wasn't sure why she could possibly be upset, she had gotten what she wanted.
Her words didn't make much sense to him. She seemed to be a little hysterical. She repeated everything that had happened between them and Forrest was slightly pained to hear that she still felt like a prisoner here.

"but fuck you, you know that?
He still didn't look at her. It didn't matter what she said, as soon as this conversation was over she would leave anyway. Was she just doing this in spite of him? He had let her go and now she wanted to unleash the crazy?
“Why does you setting me free, make me fall in love with you even more?”
He wheeled around, confused now and his eyes squint to look at her. Was she serious right now? He closed the gap between them and searched her eyes only to be staring into the truth of her words. His face changed immediately. He no longer housed anger or annoyance or confusion but a blank face of thought. Then he picked her up and wrapped her legs around his waist as he pressed her into the wall close behind her. His lips crushed into hers and his hands traced up her legs to grab her butt and he squeezed her gently. He had forgotten how much he had missed her. A soft groan emitted from behind his lips as they trailed down from her lips to her neck where he kissed and nibbled at her nape. Just to feel her skin so close to his again was enough to push him overboard.
"I love you." He whispered against her.
