Superpower: blind

The ability to make 'a power's creation' give off light

When an opponent tries to use a power against you it stops that person from going through with it by making that power give off a blinding light, which deters the other. The energy from the other person is what makes the blinding light effective. The only one immune to the blinding light is the one using this power.

The good:
Blindness is temporary-similar to effects of flash grenade.
You're unaffected by the light.

The bad:
Allies are also affected.
Useless without the other power being generated, cant just create a blinding light out of nothing

Superpower: Shielded

The power to generate a shield around oneself. Generates a shield around you based on the whatever effect is caused by your enemies power or ability.

Example

1. Telepathy - Mind scrambling shield.
2. A fire power - a fiery shield, etc.

The good:
Can be used defensive and offensive

The bad:
Useless without the other power.

Superpower: Uncontrollable

The ability to make a power uncontrollable. Makes the power used by an enemy against you, uncontrollable and thereby ineffectual

The good:
You're immune.

The bad:
Useless without the other power.

Superpower: Golden Flames

The ability to create and control flames that are anti-evil

These flames have the color of gold and can hurt beings like ordinary fire but deal more damage to anything that is evil and less to anything that is on the side of good. Those who are extremely virtuous could possibly be harmed by these flames.

The bad:
Not meant to be used against the virtuous

Ability: Society Improvement

The ability to cause the selected person(s) to advance intellectually and morally. The person who has this ability is not affected by it, and cannot use it on himself.

The good:
Everyone becomes wiser, smarter, and friendlier to each other.
World peace may eventually be achieved.
Is the counter to Society Degradation.

The bad:
They may advance so far you may never catch up to them, you could become even more of an outcast, for even your superpowers will be surpassed one day by the most ordinary being.

Weapons: None

History/Background:

Joshua Thomas had always been interested in the dark and arcane, including the occult and various other forbidden arts. By his mid 30's Joshua had become extremely wealthy, founder of a major telecommunications firm. His vast wealth allowed him to finally live out a life long dream of accumulating the most comprehensive collection of books on forbidden subjects. Joshua's interest was not a mere fascination or general desire to read about such topics, no, he wanted to perform some of the ancient rites for himself, to see if he could gain access to the higher planes of existence. He sought the ultimate knowledge. Then on his 32nd birthday Joshua performed one of the ancient rites that he had discovered in a volume on the mystical and magical practices of the 2nd century movement known as the Gnostic religion. These were a group of early Christians who were cast as heretics by the Church, hunted down and murdered-Most of their scriptures were confiscated and burned. It was rumored that the ancient Gnostic's held the secrets of the astral realms, they supposedly had direct contact with the divine. Such a task was not without its dangers, and Joshua Thomas would experience the wrath of the very powers and spiritual authorities he so desperately sought to contact.

Image

Joshua finally gained access to the furthest reaches of the cosmos, the countless years spent mastering the art of astral projection having finally paid off. Soon Joshua found himself traveling through great vistas of time/space on his way to the realm of the supreme god, his journey would come to an abrupt end when Joshua was confronted by the highest power in the universe, The Unfathomable One.

Image

Angered that this mortal dared to seek ultimate knowledge the supreme being cast Joshua back to the corporal plane, but not before granting the human his desire. The Unfathomable One put into Joshua's puny human brain the total sum of knowledge concerning the origins, meaning, and purpose of the concepts of good and evil.

This was far too much for a mere human mind to comprehend, this knowledge would alter the human physically, emotionally, and mentally. Joshua's consciosness had formed into two seoerate and distinct beings, one of pure light, the other of absolute darkness.

As the full knowledge suddenly sank into Joshua's mind he grabbed the sides of his head and screamed out into the void of space-No sound came forth. The humans mind pulsed as it began to glow with a tremendous spiritual blue light. From that point Joshua had lost all memory of what had happened to him, having simply awoken in his own bed-Completely normal.

So begins...

Music from the band Black Sabbath was blaring out of the speakers of Joshua's flat screen TV as he lay asleep on the couch in his living room. Ironically the song which was playing, was from a 1978 tour and was entitled 'Symptom of the Universe'.

Joshua was in the middle of another horrible dream, one which he has had many times, always the same, always ending abruptly, always causing him to awaken with screams and sweat.

The wealthy young man lived in a high-rise building overlooking Times Square-The 21st floor. Joshua had just awoken and was presently sitting on the edge of his couch, elbows resting upon his knees and his head in the palms of his upturned hands.

Instinctively, Joshua got up from the couch and walked over to the sliding glass door which led out to the balcony, which was situated directly above the spot where a large crowd of New Yorkers were meandering about.

Joshua, being so far up was unable to see the crowd beneath, nor could the sounds of the mass assembly reach the great heights of his spacious apartment, something which caused Joshua to wonder why he felt the need to walk out onto the balcony at that particular moment.

Joshua stood there upon his balcony, as he had done so many times before-Starring and in deep contemplation.

Joshua had totally forgotten about the unveiling of the new power source scheduled for this morning. After all, he wasn't that involved with its production, having only gotten into the project as a favor to a friend. He was perfectly satisfied to serve as a silent partner-These business tycoon types never pay for their own crap.

Still, Joshua was happy to assist with some of the financing, receiving a few shares of stock, though his piece came out to a small fraction of the mega-bucks which the development company was about to rake in-Besides its not like he is hurting for money.

Hell, his monthly therapy bill was far more then what he had given to Stark Industries, to bad you can't write off psychological instability.

Rhys Grant was one of Joshua's best friends, though he never thought it a conflict of personal interest, he had given a considerable sum to Wayne Enterprises as well, business is business after all. Joshua stretched his arms out along the railing of the balcony, as his body lowered against the cold steal, his head hanging down.

"Holy shit!" Joshua exclaimed in a loud self deprecating tone.

"I need to get my damn head screwed on straight."

Yet another thing forgotten by Joshua was that he was suppose to meet a younger acquaintance at the unveiling, "Perhaps Eddie was still there." Rushing into the bedroom Joshua quickly donned an expansive suit and headed out of his apartment, and down the hall to the elevators.

Joshua stepped out into the hustle and bustle which overfilled the narrow streets just outside the old Ramsey high-rise. "Its going to be a hell of a task. How am I suppose to find anyone in this madness." Joshua drilled a path through the mass of onlookers.

"For fucks sake, its just a damn generator!" Joshua yelled out as the frustration of passing through the veritably gauntlet of sturdy bodies wore on his nerves.

Those people who stood close heard his outburst, looking at him strangely, though he had no idea why. He didn't say anything. Growing tired from the effort of pushing his way through the crowd Joshua gave up the search for Eddie.

Turning in defeat to watch the spectacle of the unveiling, of the 'simple generator' as the mysterious voice commented.

"For fuck's sake, it's just a damn generator!"

Eddie heard a voice that was just loud enough to surpass the crowd's chatter. He turned towards the area he heard the noise and began pushing his way towards it. He didn't find his buddy, though he did start getting frusterated.

"Where the hell could he be?" he mumbled as he came to a stop near some others. Giving up the search, he looked around, facepalming when he noticed who he was standing next to. "Josh?"

The bugati raced down the street and skidded to a stop in front of the crowd. Many of the people turned in awe of the car that was over a million dollars. The door opened and out stepped Samuel Colt, the 22 year old chairman and CEO of Wayne enterprises after the sudden and mysterious departure of the last remaining member of the Wayne family, Bruce Wayne. Samuel was adopted by Bruce Wayne a few years before he abondoned the company and left the country. To the public Samuel has proved to be a shrewd businessman as well as a forward thinking leader in New York and especially Gotham Island. While he continues his adoptive fathers charade of a carefree trillionaire playboy Sam plays a more concerned and hands on CEO than Bruce did. The cameras of the press bathed Colt in flashes from their cameras as they scrambled for a shot of the infamous CEO. Sam just smiled casually and gave them a calm wave as he entered the crowd.

"Mr. Colt! Mr. Colt! What does this new energy source mean for the people of New York City?"

"Mr. Colt! Do you have plans to use this technology to better the situation in Gotham?"

"Are Stark Industries and Wayne Enterprises merging?"

The reporters questions came flying at him but Sam took them in stride.

"This break through is a joint venture for the betterment of all mankind. The fusion of Stark Industries arc reactor technology and our own additons are just us rich kids attempt and doing something good for a change. We're just trying to keep the lights on with clean affordable energy for a change. If you boys and girls have anymore questions I'd be happy to answer them after the press conference. Enjoy the show."

He said cooly, finishing with a quick wink before making his way through the crowd to his compaines regional manager of the New York area. Rhys Grant was standing beside a particularily well known billionaire Joshua Thomas, a leader in the telecommunications field. The two were old friends and Sam was friendly enough with boht of them but like Bruce, he took care not to become too friendly and risk any slip ups. Sam maintained a friendly but proffesional relationship with both of them.

"Rhys, Joshua. Sorry I'm late."

He said with a casual smile as he shook their hands firmly.

Parker stretches a bit, yawning as her roommate bounced through their small apartment, pots and pans clanking together to make a wretched, horrifying noise.

"DARREN, PLEASE." Parker grumbles, sitting her, her hair tumbles around her shoulders and she rubs her eyes a bit.

"Wake up then you lazy ass." Her roommates' voices leap through the crack of the door. Parker cracks her neck to the left then the right, standing and stumbling over to her dresser and she throws on a pair of boy shorts and a tank top, throws her hair up into a loose ponytail and walks out of her room and into the kitchen.

Darren stares at her for a moment, his eyebrow pulling up, handing Parker a fresh cup of coffee.

"Well, good morning sleeping beauty," Darren says, sarcasm drips in his voice and Parker's head hits the counter top with a groan.

"It's too early for this shit." She says, her head lifts up to see Darren and he laughs a bit.

"Well," he rests his elbows on the table, and places a cupcake in front of her with a candle on it, Parker glares, "I know, I know, you don't like when people give you things on your birthday, but... Happy birthday, Parker."

Parker continues to glare.

"Hey, c'mon, it's your twentieth, you should be stoked!"

"Totally..." She says and sits up, taking a sip of her coffee.

He lights the candle and he pushes it towards her, "Make a wish."

Parker stares at it for a good moment. Wish... She had wished for a lot of things in her life, but they always seemed to turn out bad.

Maybe she should start wishing for bad things to happen, so the reverse would happen. Parker closes her eyes and then blows out the candle. She looks up at Darren with a smirk.

"Thanks, kid." She takes another drink of her coffee and places it down, "Well, that's the end of that, I should get ready for work."

Parker worked as an associate, basically an office girl for the big hot shot, Mr. Stark. Of course, she thought he was a bit over his head in many different ways, and a little out of his mind, but the job payed good money for her to get through college and get into Medical school.

She walks into her room and picks out a black pencil skirt and a white button up top. She clips her hair into a partial and then puts on make up. Grabbing her briefcase she heads out, calling down a taxi.

The traffic was terrible, and many people seemed to be loading up in the Square.

"Hang on..." She realized this had to do with the two companies merging. She pays the taxi driver and steps out of the car, the streets were bustling, people pushing.

She recognizes Mr. Colt as he steps out of a building and she tilts her head a bit as he walks towards her and greets two people she knew by name, but not personally, Joshua Thomas and Rhys Grant.

"I am happy to announce that I am going to turn on the generator NOW, and power ALL of New York!"

Joshua heard his childhood friend say, and then out of nowhere came an obscene display of hate and wanting destruction. Joshua was unable to move as he witnessed the glowing blue helix, there was something about that color that had overwhelmed his desire to escape from the carnage before him.

He was completely fixated on that color, not moving, not responding to the inherent danger of the situation. One of the baddies had misfired their weapon, striking the lip of the Hershey building.

A large portion of debris was sheered from the top of the structure, sending it tumbling to the street below, directly on the spot where Joshua stood-Fixated. Not moving.

Joshua and Rhys now lay on the famously filthy New York sidewalk, 'ol Ry was yelling at Josh, questioning him as to his state of mind. Joshua was never at a loos for funny little things to say in the midst of intense situations. "I'll ask my Pysc."

"I d.Don't know....Ry" Getting to his feet and then lending a hand of assistance to his savior, who was now also standing upright.

Both of them stood by the big piece of the old Hershey building. Joshua looked at the mass of rubble and then turned to his friend. "Damn, we just had this building constructed not that long ago, remember?"

Rhys knew enough about Joshua that whenever he started to talk about business in such situations it was his way of trying to get passed the fact that he had messed up again. Knowing that his friend would remember all the great things they've achieved and all the good times they have had as two young bachelors. Rhy understood.

As Stark announced that he was turning on the generator, Eddie stood in awe. The helix began to spin and had a bluish color that attracted his eyes. He ignored the mist, as it was probably part of the device. His eyes were stuck to the machine as the attack began and he didn't even notice until a huge piece of the Hershey building began to fall. He stumbled back and watched in horror and Joshua remained still, but was saved just in the nick of time by Rhys.

As he was scolded by Rhys, Joshua kept his normal composure, joking around. Eddie walked up to them, after walking around the debris and sighed.

"Shit man, you almost got yourself killed." he laughed an patted Josh on the back.

"Shut up." he laughed along with Josh. "So what are we-" his question was interrupted by an explosion. Following the explosion, a few false Iron-Men headed in the direction of them and Josh had pushed them into the dirty ground.

Eddie coughed. "So what are we going to do?" Eddie asked somewhat annoyed.

"Ill never understand the human propensity for hate and violence. This is Obscene." Joshua called out amidst a barrage of repulsar blasts and gunfire.

The three friends of Joshua, Eddie and Rhys still stood within the doorway of the Hershey building, thinking it a safe place to hide during the terrible onslaught (pun intended). It wasn't long before they all realized just how wrong they were, as they discovered themselves in the line of fire between Iron-Men, the unfamiliar and strange terrorist group, and what few proper authorities there was around.

A man dressed rather oddly, at leaset Joshua thought, had just somersaulted passed the covered entrance to the Hershey building, he seemed to be in desperate need to avoid something.

That's when Joshua saw the glowing blue light again.

Eddie turned to Joshua and starred at him as his friends eyes pulsated with the same deep blue color.

In the shock of the moment Eddie had mistakenly taken a step closer to the device which was on the verge of being vaporized in a Holocaust of flame and metal-debris. An explosion was imminent and Joshua sensing its coming acted upon the premonition.

Without thinking Joshua grabbed Rhys-Standing slightly to his left-By his shoulder, while simultaneously whipping Eddie around in front of him and away from the explosion. Joshua was completly exposed, standing with his back to the source of the carnage that was surly to come.

Then came the powerful blast of flame and white-hot projectiles.

Within a nano-second of the explosion there came a giant flame-bubble which cast itself over the three huddled civilians. The bursting flames and flying debris created by the unexpected explosion seemed to glide off the dome-barrier.

But how could flame bounce off of flame?

After the flames had dispersed Eddie and Rhys found themselves starring at the dome, looking at a multitude of solid patches that were formed as one with the fluttering and flickering shield-Bits of steel merged with flame.

And then, as suddenly and unexpectedly as it had appeared, the flame-shield was gone.

"I'll never understand the human propensity for hate and violence. This is Obscene." Joshua called out amidst a barrage of repulsar blasts and gunfire.

"It's all testosterone!" he joked in a shout over all the commotion.

It was beginning to get clear that they had chosen the wrong place to take shelter as multiple Iron-Men, terrorists and the odd cop were all engaged in a fight that didn't really look organized. It appeared to just be one big cluster fuck of repulsor blasts, gunshots and even the occasional grenade. How they weren't already dead was beyond Eddie, but as he looked into Josh's eyes, he noticed a familiar blue color and he unknowingly took a step back, closing a bit of distance between him and the machine that was probably the cause for all this fighting.

In a blur of motion, Josh had thrown Eddie in front of Rhys and out of the way of an explosion. He looked up, to find a dome of flame protecting them from the blast. Eddie's jaw dropped open, signaling that he was dumbfounded at the turn of events. He sat there with the same look on his face until the dome disappeared without a trace.

"What just happened?" he said with a lump in his throat.

#, as written by Brock10
Rhys Grant looked in horror at the world around him, as it descended into madness. People lie dead or injured, and ash was everywhere following the immediate vaporization of a large amount of people. He looked at his friends, Josh and Eddie, and felt the amazement of the fire shield. As the Symbiotes and Kevlar moved into battle, he began to panic. So much had happened in the last half hour, he had no idea what to do. First thing in his mind was to get out of the area. He saw a car, a nice, sports one, with a pretty Red paint-job.

"Josh, Eddie, I'm gonna go drive that car. We get to Wayne Manor, be safe there. I'll drive it, be ready to hop in guys!"

With that he charged into the Square, towards the car on the opposite side. A White Symbiote charged up to him, and he narrowly ducked its swipe, realizing the danger he was in. However, it soon engaged another enemy. As he sprinted the final leg towards the car, an Iron Man landed in front of him, Green paint scratched heavily, and he noticed the Insignia of the LVA, the Latverian Vengeance Army. He stopped, waiting for the armored threat to talk.

"Stop. Your coming with me. Come quietly, I might not hurt you and you might remain conscious."

As he began to advance towards Rhys, he thought of ways out of it. He began to dart past the Iron-Man, and it fired a repulsor blast, narrowly missing Rhys.

"To hell with this" he shouted before punching the metal man...

and sending it flying.

And then he realized what he had done. Then, blue energy pulsated through his arms, and he followed up the punch with a blue blast of energy, throwing the man into a skyscraper. Rather than dwelling on the revelation, he got into the car, drove it towards his friends, and shouted out the window

"GET IN! WE NEED TO GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE! NOW!!!"

And as he waited for his friends, he realized.

I've got superpowers.

The situation was getting way out of hand, hundreds dead and strange blue waves passing through an atmosphere of absolute carnage and mayhem. Joshua remained in the same position where he had first hid himself at the beginning of the civil war.

Rhys and Eddie had long since ran for a safer hiding place, leaving Joshua on his own, standing and starring at the bluwaves as they traveled through the air. Joshua knew that color, but from where, and when.

Then came the bursts of agonizing pain which he would later come to accept as part of his transformation, a change which would turn Joshua Thomas into a being of the astral realms beyond the earth.

Joshua instinctively knew that to transform into this other form without a means to protect the world around him would be disastrous, eventually the pain had grown too intense for Joshua and so with his hands clasped over his forehead he ran into his building and deep down into the basement of the sky-scraper.

Joshua barely managed to make it to the door leading to the basement, with one hand over his forehead he would hold himself up with the other by placing it against the wall as he stumbled toward the door. Joshua never made it to the basement, having passed out in the hallway on the lowest level of the Hershey building.

Upon awaking Joshua came to find himself in a small room with no means of egress, thinking he had succeeded, though not sure exactly how, Joshua's examined what he thought to be the bowls of his building. This was no basement, the walls were a solid off-white color as was the floor, but of some unrecognizable and alien material-It was then that the words "safe-room" flooded into Joshua's mind-But was this for his safety or the safety of others.

There was nothing behind Joshua when he first appeared within this odd room, but now behind him he finds a black outfit, these too seemed to be made up of the same material as the room in which he stood-Now more confused then ever. A cowl of some metallic-sort was part of the outfit, much like what one would wear as part of a spacesuit, with fasteners-Apparently used to hold some kind of helmet attachment to form an air-tight seal around the wearers head and shoulders.

Joshua was certain that someone or something was controlling the situation within the tight space, there were no secret compartments in the walls that might be used to deliver certain objects to the person concealed within, and still strange items were being slipped to him.

Turning around to face the position he had originally seen upon his awakening Joshua discovered yet another outfit-This one apparently meant to be worn over the first uniform-A space suit, or compression suit of strange construction. Caught up in the mysterious goings-on within the small white room Joshua had forgotten about the pains in his head, only to return once more.

Joshua screamed in pain and fell to his knees-Holding the sides of his head. Joshua's vision was suddenly overcome by that strange blue light, the same color that he had seen glowing within the Helix device-Now glowing within his own head and shinning out through his burning eyes.

Soon his entire head and face were engulfed by that blue luminosity-A spectral light which cannot be detected in any known spectrum of color or shading. It was then that he remembered his encounter with the Unfathomable One within the astral plane-And though Joshua had never heard this being utter a word he instinctively knew everything that the Incomprehensible One might want Joshua to know about his condition.

He knew that he was the guardian of the holy flame of Azure, the spiritual light of the gods, the source of the knowledge of good.

But as to its opposite, that knowledge Joshua had not received as a gift from the Unfathomable One.

Joshua would eventually come to the realization that the power which had been bestowed upon him, was only half of this so-called gift-A gift which would turn out to be more of a curse.

Now fully transformed Joshua Thomas had become "Astral Spectre"

Suddenly as Rhys and Eddie stood by the front door of Wayne Manor the security system went haywire, buzzing and blinking on and off, and acting out in other peculiar ways. Those within the mansion were free from any knowledge of the coming phenomenon-The two weary and confused visitors were completely exposed to the intense flickering dome of Bluwaves which pulsated and then quickly dissipated before their astonished eyes, leaving in its wake a stunned and confused Joshua Thomas.

Turning their heads to the left side of the mansion Eddie and Rhys discover their friend, who seemed physically drained, with one hand on his forehead and the other pressed against the building to hold himself up.

Stumbling toward them.

Joshua's eyes slowly adapted to the far more familiar spectrum of light, so vastly different was the shinning terrestrial sun to that of the mysterious Bluwaves which had momentarily engulfed him-Though necessary were those Bluwaves to the transformation of Joshua Thomas into the Astral Spectre, as he would eventually discover.

Joshua had no idea how he wound up at Wayne Manon, nor did he remember the small glowing enclosure from whence he came. Joshua staggered toward his two friends with his hands clasped over his face, as the last remnants of the Bluwaves drained from his eyes. Now looking directly at his two companions as they too witnessed the bluish tinge fade away-Joshua now fully and strangely back to normal as if nothing had happened.

"How the hell did I get here?"

With that the front door of Wayne Manor opened.
