Merlin Waterby

Merlin does not carry weapons.
He is often protected by the others.
To outsiders, he may appear to project an aura of "definiteness", of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that start building at an early age. When it comes to his own areas of expertise -- and he can have several -- he will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not he can help you, and if so, how. He knows what he knows, and perhaps still more importantly, he knows what he doesn't know. He is a perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes his interest. What prevents him from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: He applies (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from his own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing him from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for his own sake.

He is known as the "Systems Builder" of most groups, perhaps in part because he possesses the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system he happens to be working on is for him the equivalent of a moral cause to another, both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as he can be unsparing of both himself and others on a project. Anyone considered to be "slacking," including superiors, will lose his respect -- and will generally be made aware of this; He has also been known to take it upon himself to implement critical decisions without consulting his supervisors. On the other hand, he does tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice. In the broadest terms, what he "does" tends to be what he "knows". Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the his Achilles heel. While he is capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and is willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that makes him so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead him in interpersonal situations.

This happens in part because he does not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, he tends to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, he is usually extremely private, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes him easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that he really wants people to make sense. This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, he will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.

Merlin is the most talented with fire magic, earth coming in second, wind third, and finally water. He is a great warlock, one both respected and hated by the magic population. His talents come... naturally to him, whereas most others must study magic and even then have a very hard time controlling it. For him though, it's just a flick of the wrist, or a soft spoken word. His eyes glow gold when doing magic.

Merlin is very much like his brother in the appearance department, they are twins after all. His hair is naturally a light blonde color, which he finds no need to change. Besides, he likes tricking people into thinking he's his brother, or the other way around. Along with his blonde hair he has gorgeous blue eyes, another thing he and his brother share. Merlin is even smaller than his sibling, being five four and a hundred and ten pounds. His magic causes him to be this way.
