Personality

Derek is a bit blank. He tries not to get close to people or show emotion due to his occupation. Being a reaper has taken it's toll on Derek, unfortunately. He is usually numb and unfeeling toward everyone, being quite formal. He speaks in the manner of old English, being that he's been around so long. However, if anyone gets past his shell, they will find an extremely caring man, surprisingly enough. He is a hopeless romantic, a man who still believes in chivalry and honoring a woman. He treats everyone with the utmost of respect, even when he himself is disrespected. The only real way to get him angry would be to harm the people that have managed to get close to him, otherwise, he remains calm.

Equipment

He has a scythe that he keeps somewhere with him, either in his car, home, or on his person.

History

Derek was created by the angel Ezekiel for one purpose, and one purpose only; to collect the souls of the dead. It is all he has ever known his entire life. He has moved all over the planet due to his job, though he tries to stay in one place for long periods of time. He currently presides in Clearwood. Few people have managed to get close to Derek, but some have actually managed to. But eventually they all died and he had to collect all of their souls. A terrible experience for him.

So begins...

Another day of work. I wonder what it is Ezekiel wants me to collect right this moment. Derek pondered to himself. He was walking through the woods of Clearwood. He had the sense that something nearby had died. Well, two things really, but it was in one spot. That way he could easily collect the souls. He wasn't donning the stereotypical black hooded robe that reapers wore in human's imaginations. He was wearing the clothes he wore each and every day, jeans and a t-shirt with some sneakers. Of course, he carried a rather large scythe that looked a bit dangerous. He absorbed the souls of the dead through this scythe. It was how he worked.

He made it to the site, a large, white dragon, dead on the floor of the forest. But it seemed he wasn't alone. There was a small white dog-human hybrid and a blond girl with grey-green eyes. He fixed his own eyes on the two with a blank stare. "I suppose that since the both of you are very much alive, I am not here to collect your souls. However, there's supposed to be another soul here with the dragon's." He stated I a voice that was very close to being monotone. With that, he gave a sigh and walked to the dragon, sticking the scythe into it's side, but leaving no cut. The scythe simply cut the soul from the body. "Work, work, work." He muttered. "Ever busy doing an angel's job."

Derek felt the soul of the dragon pass into the scythe, and for a moment, lived it's last moments.

What is this thing that keeps me here? Why can I not move? I want that meat. I'm not hungry, but I want it. I can smell it's blood. It smells wonderful. What is that little thing that is hitting me? It's rather annoying. If I weren't trapped, I'd play with him a bit. He smells delicious too. Wait, what is that thing he just-

And then it was over. Derek gave a small smirk, devoid of emotion. "A rather sadistic one, aren't we? The bloodlust captured you before you died. Ah, well." And with that, he was about to pull his scythe out when another soul slipped into his scythe.

What's Toko yelling about? I was trying to sleep. Whatever it is, can't it wait? I hate waking up in the mornings. Wait, was that-

Derek pulled the scythe out of the dragon. "Tut, tut, Mr. Dragon. It seems you indulged in a young man and interrupted his sleep." He then turned to the two who were in the woods with him and the Dragon's corpse. "Neither of you are the boy who slayed this dragon. Why are you here?"

Toko was about to respond to Alica before a brown haired young man with a giant scythe appeared from the woods. Toko's jaw dropped as he went speechless seeing what the male did. It is a rare sight seeing one of the grim reapers of Daughtris collecting souls from the dead. When the grim reaper asked a question, Toko shook his head to clear his head and looked straight at the soul collector.

"Collecting sou... I mean collecting materials from the dragon's corpse" Toko explained to the grim reaper and turned his head to Alica.

"Now that I'm here I would like to know who killed the beast as well." Alica said without missing a beat and staring holes into Toko's head. The reaper seemed to care little for anything but he was slightly interested to know who ended the dragon's life. If only Toko would snap out of his stupor long enough to tell them so Alica could have a, uh little talk with the sadistic boy who did this. No animal deserved to die like this one did.

Derek tilted his head to the side as Toko began to speak. "Ah, good thing you corrected yourself, because I thought I was the one here collecting souls." He then directed his attention to the blond girl, his eyes blank and uninterested. "And I find it curious that you want to know the boy who slayer this dragon. Perhaps you were the sister of the boy who's soul I found in the dragon's belly? Did you want to thank the warrior for avenging his life and possibly many more?" Derek looked to the dragon with some distaste. "The thing was in a bit of a bloodlust and was no longer killing for hunger. Just creating more work for me. Tut, tut, tut." Derek shook his head at the dragon's corpse, as if reprimanding it. He then looked back to the girl and dog. "I suppose it would be common formality to tell you my name. I am Derek. And I believe it is obvious to you both that I am indeed a reaper, created to do the dirty work of a lazy angel." Derek sighed dramatically. "Oh well I suppose. If it weren't for his laziness! I would not be here. However, who is to say that it is good that I am here?" Derek shrugged. "But I am rambling, and have been told that to do so is rude, so please, someone else talk."

“It killed and ate a person?” Toko questioned in surprise “that’s a shame… I will have to investigate about the body to find out who he is and inform the closest relative…” he muttered before turning to Alica.

"But God Alica, I told you back at the house” Toko said frowning “I hired a hunter to stop this dragon from hunting in our neighborhood but I didn't expect him to kill it. I thought he would just break one of its horns so that it wouldn’t hunt anymore… but I guess ending this beast would probably be a good thing as it did become a bloodlust monster…”

Toko then turned back to the reaper “My name is Toko, the sheriff of a town nearby” Toko introduced himself and gestured at Alica “This is Alica” He introduced her. "I would ask you why you are here but I'm guess we all already know that"

Rosaria was perplexed. Her charm didn't work with her devilish grins. Had she not tried enough? Heh, the most she got was a job offer. Close enough, she thought, I'll wrap someone up by the end of the night. If was like drinking sickeningly sweet coffee, you like it and hate it at the same time.
Rosey made a shot out of the last of the whiskey and stood. She was sweating earlier, but she still looked decent, if not sexy. Plus, she would earn money tonight, which would be good. Other than her demonic talents, she didn't really have anything special to say about herself. She extended her hand towards the bartender. "Rose," she said, extending her free hand to her new partner, the black-haired, flower-tending woman beside her.

"No I am not his sister, I know nothing of him. This beast didn't deserve to die like this. Bloodlust or not. I want to talk with the hunter." Alica decided she did not like the reaper Derek. He was quite rude but pretended to act with manners. And he cared nothing for the beast or even the man eaten by him. Simply that someone was adding to his work load. He complained about someone being lazy. You seem to be a lazy one. Alica thought.
"Toko I dont care if he did good here by killing the dragon. It's the way he killed it. With no mercy. Killing to kill. Much like the dragon was doing. So I ask one more time who did you hire to hunt the dragon?" Alica said her last word with a threat in them. Toko knew her. She cared more for animals then people and she was sick of him just dancing around the subject. "It's not like I'm going to kill the boy who did this." Alica continued a bit more gently.

Derek watched the communication with slight amusement. It must be such a burden to feel things like anger and sadness and empathy. Derek remembered a time when he felt such things, but it was a mistake to do so and he shut the memory out. "Well, would you like to know something before you go looking for this boy?" Derek said, directing his attention to the girl with a smile that was, once again, devoid of emotion. "You see, dragons are beasts with a great sense of smell. They can identify creatures by their smell. And the dragon identified the boy as a werewolf. So, if you so choose to go after him, I would recommend being careful. Otherwise, your soul may be the next I collect. However, I know nothing of thus boy. It would be better to ask the sheriff if you would be in any danger." He turned to the small dog. "Well, sheriff? Is this hunter prone to violent outbursts as a werewolf that would endanger the young girl's life? It would be a shame to have to collect her soul so soon."

"Excuse me. But I can hold my own alright? So don't try to coddle me Mr. Reaper. Just back off, do your job and if you can tell me where to find the werewolf then please do so." Alica said before Toko would step up and try to "protect" her. He had known her a long time but he sometimes seemed to forget that she was a big girl now. She didn't need a knight in shining armor to save her. She was no damsel in distress. All she wanted was to find the werewolf and tell him what's what.

“You really need to learn to have patience, Alica” Toko advised “This attitude of yours may cost you your life someday, just like Mr. Derek said earlier”. He paused to think and a few second later, he spoke “you shouldn’t chase after every single hunter that kills a creature. Besides, if this dragon was spared, it probably would kill some more”. Toko stopped to catch his breathe.

Toko was worried problem would rise between him and Aiden if Alica was to chase after his hunter friend. Friendship would be jeopardised and life would probably be lost so he would prefer to handle things peacefully for a change rather than have more killings and dying.

A sigh was released before Toko and spoke “but if you really need to give the hunter a piece of your mind, I’ll contact him with my phone and you can do that through the phone” He paused and continued “For now, I don’t think we can cut this dragon for materials. We need to perform an autopsy on this dragon and the dead person in it. I’ll call some people to help”

He turned to Derek “Mr. Derek, thank you for informing us about the deceased person. We would have never found out if you didn’t. If you need any assistance for anything, you can find me in the town of Tutelia not far from here”

"I'm don't chase after every hunter, in case you have forgotten I hunt. What upsets me is when someone puts an animal through unjust pain and suffering just for sport." Alica explained. "I would like to meet him in person, so you can give me his number or have him call me, thank you Toko." Alica continued.
All of her attention was currently on Toko. On the outside she seemed to have forgotten what the reaper had said but that was not the case. She would simply deal with one thing at a time. For now the more important problem was dealing with the person who had sadistically killed this beautiful creature.
"Go on call your people, after seeing how the poor beast was killed I don't want to collect anything from it. The dragon deserved better." Alica said.

Derek was further amused by the girl in front of him. He began to walk in a circle around her. "Ah, and you claim to know what people and creatures deserve? You have the right to deem some worthy of one thing while others aren't? You are quite rude to me, and intends on being rude to the man, all for a dragon of which you never saw the life span of. You, nor I, know what this dragon deserves, nor what that boy deserves. You obviously do not know him at all, and therefore, how do you know he deserves to be treated with such disrespect, to be yelled at for a task that is, quite frankly, none of your business? For all you know, this boy couldn't he suicidal and your yelling g could push him over the edge." Derek stopped and flashed his white teeth in a wide grin. "My, wouldn't that be a turn of events?" He said and gave an empty chuckle. "Do you not think of anything but your strong beliefs? Do you let your thoughts cloud rationality?" Derek paused a moment, thoughtfully. "My, it must be such a bother to harbor emotions. Always going from one end to another, letting the emotions cloud rational thought process." Derek turned to Toko. "Oh,I do hope you'll give her the boy's number. I wish to be around when all of this ensues."

"I don't claim to know who deserves what and when. But tell me what animal should be brutally tormented before it is killed? Though you are right in the way that I never knew this animal but I do not let my beliefs cloud my judgment at all. I think before I speak and before I act. I use rational thought and fair judgment. So sir you are being quite rude as well as making assumptions where you have but little to no room to say anything about me and my choices. You might be well spoken yes, but the undertone of your words are asking for you to be slapped. If I may inform you." Alica said with a sickeningly sweet smile plastered on her face.
"I won't cause the werewolf harm and if he is suicidal I won't let him take his own life whilst I am with him.
Also who says you will be around to see what unfolds when I speak to him?" Alica retorted, ready to land her fist right on that pretty mouthed, smooth talking, rude face of his. Though if she did Toko would have to arrest her which she didn't have to time for today. Unfortunately the reaper seemed to have a knack for pushing her buttons.
"There is only one thing that you have said that I agree with." Alica said moving to face Toko and get the reaper a step farther away for her person. "Simply give me his number. I'll call him and tell him what I think, then let him have his say and I'm sure that is where it will end Toko. So tell me what the digits are and let this all be over." Alica said. If Toko danced around this again she might just have to swipe his phone to get it herself.

As Alica thought, Toko did dance on making his decision for a while before responding.

“How about we just let it end here for now. No need to call anyone” He suggested and continued before Alica could disagree “I’ll be heading back now, if you don’t mind. I’ll be seeing you around, Mr. Derek”

Quickly, Toko spat a ball of fire to a nearby tree, branding it with a teleportation sigil so that later, he could teleport back there easy. Then, he casted a semi-transparent red barrier around the dead dragon to prevent any creature from disturbing it before teleporting away, leaving Alica behind alone with the angel reaper.

The sky was getting bright. The sun is rising.

Derek chuckled at the girl who seemed to be part elf. "An angry one, are we? I seem to just frustrate you to no end." He chuckled once more. "Well, to answer all of your questions, even the ones that I didn't get the chance t answer when they were asked." Derek took a deep breath and began to speak in a slightly rushed tone. "I believe you would say that a serial murderer would deserve to be tortured. Someone who tortured others. I believe it's call karma, dharma, the threefolds law, golden rule, whatever your religion entails. Is this not true?" He paused for a moment and gave a wicked grin, then disappeared in a puff of black smoke, only to appear directly behind Alica again and whispered in her ear. "This is how I intend to be there when everything unfolds." He leaned away from her and took a step back once more to get in a distance that was more comfortable. "And at the moment, no. While people do die every second, there are many other reapers, not to mention the Grim Reaper himself, and there is also the angel Ezekiel, whenever he wishes to get off of his lazy backside. Therefore, we reapers do not have to be collecting souls every second of every day."

Derek leaned against a tree in a casual manner and he gave a slight smirk. "And you argue that humans are not animals? Even though it has been proven to be scientifically true? I don't think you to be that religious. Though, I could be wrong in that assumption." Derek whirled his scythe in a circle in front of him, like the propellers of a helicopter. "And if I had to work every second, then you wouldn't be having such a joyous time with me." He said sarcastically. "Though, usually in my off time I work as a mechanic. Then there is the fact that I do have to take care of this body of mine. I do indulge in sleep sparingly as well, though my work usually prevents it." He whistled a bit, an oddly cheery tune to be coming from the lips of a reaper.

Derek stood straight and looked the girl in the eye with a completely serious face. "Now, I know for a fact that these 'beasts' as you call them are capable of rational thought. Maybe they are more tinged with instinct than ours, but then again, isn't what drives all of our thoughts based on survival of the individual and survival of the race? I hear the last thoughts of each and every dying thing." He pointed to the dragon, raising his voice. "That creature was in no pain. The only thing it suffered from was the blood lust that it was captured by. It's last thoughts were of toying with the hunter before he killed him. So do not tell me, a reaper who hears the last thoughts of every creature that dies, that 'beasts' are incapable of rational thought." While he was not angry, he felt determined to open this girl's eyes. He was not sure what drove him to do so, but he felt a justice needed to be payed to all the creatures she had just pretty much insulted in his mind. Each creatures suffering that he had to go through. He remembered that in the beginning it was agony. It tore him apart to his very core until he couldn't feel no more. And then there would be that special person every few millennia that made him feel again. This was both the best and worst times of his life. Then, since they were mortal, he had to eventually collect their souls and each time it happened it cut deeper and deeper and then he would lapse into the sanctuary of numbness.

Derek was taken slightly aback when he saw the attitude of the girl completely change, then she took a step toward him. He took a step back, throwing his walls back up. He would not allow himself to be that way again. He would not be clouded by emotions once again only to have him hurt further. "Yes, well, it is only the reaper's job to do such things. Really, it is just a mere drawback if the scythe itself. But we reapers were created for this simple purpose, and it is the only thing we are around for." Derek kept telling himself that in his head. He was only here on this mundane world to collect souls, and nothing more.

Derek smirked a bit when she spoke. "Well, I am not 'people's in the technical term. But I have become accustomed to speaking with people in a somewhat proper manner whislt keeping my wits about me at all times." Derek snapped his fingers, summoning the scythe to it's place in his room. "That thing does get a bit heavy sometimes. It is rather burdening." Derek sighed and leaned against a tree once again. He glanced at her extended hand, debating whether or not he should shake it. He knew that his flesh would only be cold and clammy to her, so why she would want to touch him was a mystery to him. He finally decided to shake the girl's hand. It was soft and warm. "Well, I would say it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, but you greeted me with much anger." He smirked once again. "I'm not sure people take pleasure in that."

Alica was shocked at how cold his hands were and it made her flush ever so slightly. But at the same time his touch was calming, and seemed to cool her all over. She had noted his hesitation and reluctance to touch her and though she wondered at it she said nothing. "I seem to be out of habit with keeping my temper, manners and, words in check." Alica said sheepishly. "I truly am sorry for the way I treated you, I had no right to be so rude to you, and I don't really expect you to suffer my annoying and rude attitude much longer. Toko loves to tell me how I should stop being such a pain in his neck, and other places he's mentioned." Alica continued bashful and blushing quite embarrassed at her own actions toward the man.

Derek shrugged his shoulders and removed his hand from Alica's, fairly nonchalant about the whole situation that had passed. "I feel no annoyance, I was merely telling you how you were acting. I have no like or dislike toward the way you conduct yourself." He said to her in a rather blank voice. He was determined to not grow close with any mortal again, he would simply not allow it. He let go of her hand seemingly unfeeling yet again. It was as if he was trying to keep himself contained or trying to keep his walls up, or rather her out. Though what would cause him to feel he must do those things Alica had no clue in the slightest.
Now he was trying to see if she would want spend more time with him. He was interesting and had some views she would like to hear more about so she decided she would offer to make them something to eat considering she was hungry and he might be as well, but he was quite confusing sending mixed messages with every word he spoke.
"Well I haven't eaten since last night, and I don't mean to brag or anything but I am not a bad cook." Alica said joking slightly. "Depending on what you like I might have to stop at a store on the way, if you don't mind." Alica went on, part of her hoping he would come along, and part of her not sure what to think of Derek.

Derek shrugged once more at her proposition. "Any food is good for me, I have no real preference." He said to her, studying her looks closely. Something about her had a familiar quality. It seemed the air she gave off was familiar, like he had seen something, or someone, similar before. "You are free to lead the way." "Well in that case, sir let's go, because I'm hungry." Alica said turning around so as to face the way to her home. Alica was mentally going over all her weapons and where the were in her home, just in case. She isn't one to take obviously stupid risks without the proper assistance. She didn't know Derek well enough to trust him in her home alone without something to defend herself. Though from the time she had spent with him alone she highly doubted her need for self defense. He had had plently of time to hurt her, but one couldn't be to careful with ones own safety. "So are you in the mood for anything in particular?" Alica asked so she could start planing breakfast.

As the girl started walking, Derek walked to her side easily, offering his arm like an old English gentleman did centuries ago. Derek was old fashioned, in him, chivalry was not dead. He felt a twinge of hope that she would not just ignore his arm, and he tried to squash that. But itnwas nagging at him a bit. "I have nothing in particular in mind, if you crave anything certain, you may make that and I'll eat it. As I said, I'm not in the mood for anything in particular." He said to her, then realized that he had not said that. "Er- I mean that I said I had no real preference." He corrected.
