ImageBasics

Full Name Thomas Gallagher

Age 72 in human years but appears to be in his late teens

Gender Male Image

Species Born Warlock Image

Magic White Image, though his fire magic could fall into the category of grey magic.

Appearance

Appearance He is black haired and brown eyed, his face angular and jaw sharp. He's a bit short at 5'8 and is of a healthy weight for his lithe, medium frame. Like other white warlocks, a faint glow surrounds his body. Thomas is often found in black clothing, as though he were in constant mourning, ranging from casual jeans and jacket to a black suit. During his performances, he wears only pants in order to demonstrate his confidence with fire.

Debt
Years 56 / 150
Souls 9,213 / 21,659
Wish To be rid of his powers Image
Effect of Soul Collection It was easier in the beginning, when he was still a child and thought only of himself. He was automatic in his work, dangerously so, thinking little of his effect on others. Out of sight, out of mind was the way he lived and for some time, it worked. Maturity changed his perspective, grounded him, and the realization of his actions hit him all at once, decreasing down his weekly quota to a near halt. As if to recompense for his naivity, Thomas acted as judge, persecuting those he deemed less worthy to live. Even so, he finds it difficult to swallow his actions as he brands one after another, particularly with the appearance of his new love. She serves as a constant reminder of the loved ones that still wait for the souls he has stolen. Questions that he has never considered have begun to plague his mind, tempting him with ideas of rebellion and escape.

Skills and Role
Job
Fire performer Image
Thomas performs acts such as body burning, fire breathing and fire eating. He also entertains by walking on coals and sometimes performs with a fire meteor (a long chain with small bowls of liquid fuel on the ends), though he lacks confidence in the act.

Healer Image
Aware of many a healing spell, Thomas acts as a sort of doctor to the circus performers. Any injuries are often mended by the young warlock and for an extra price (more souls than any monetary amount), he'll add a few defensive spells from his large repetoire.

Most used Power
Fire manipulation

Fighting Skills
Fire - His primary skill involves scorching hot flames that emit from his hands, though they can also form a protective, fire shield around his body.
Defense - Aside from healing, Thomas is also knowledgeable in defensive spells and wards, though this is a secondary skill and less developed than his first.

Weapon of Choice Image
Rings, one on the middle finger of each hand. To keep these in place, they're linked to thin chains that lead to and wrap around his wrist to create bracelets.

Personality
Though he is seen as the patient, selfless healer, Thomas is in essense selfish, but his denial prevents him from this realization. A few of the circus performers sense this of course, for they all share the trait to some degree. How else would they find themselves here, indebted to a demon? He tends to keep to himself and only interacting with others when necessary. Women tend to make for better company than men, as he's uncomfortable around the latter though he relates little with the former. With men, he's usually more cold and indifferent, keeping to shorter responses and less eye contact. With women, he could almost be called charming, though it's not intended to woo and court but to keep them happy for he fears losing their company. Thomas is slow to trust others, having experienced betrayal in his past. Though once his loyalty has been earned, he makes for a faithful friend. However, he can be very emotionally reliant on his companions, which is seen as burdensome and clingy to most. He's a worrier; and finds it hard to relax, taking up smoking as one of his compulsive behaviours. The others include excessive cleaning of his body and the need for symmetry. For instance, if he is touched on the left hand, he will have to touch his right hand in the same place.

When performing, he's confident, perhaps more so then than any other time. He's grown adept at manipulating fire, controlling his temperamental outburts, and it shows in his act. When playing as the doctor, he's calm and a soothing presence to be around, but he rarely lets others get too comfortable. Better they all stay on their guard, that way, he won't feel so alone.

Thomas is cynical and sometimes critical of others, though he knows when to hold his tongue and keep silent. There is much anger suppressed; anger at himself and at others for the abuse he's experienced. The anger at the self manifests as his tendency to put himself in high risk situations, from his presence at the carnival to his fire performances. His anger toward others is seen in his passive aggressive behaviour and shooting down others' opinions while offering no alternative. When this anger builds to the breaking point, Thomas reaches a state of hopelessness and will often remain holed up in his living quarters for weeks on end. During this time, his usual nightmares of being chased, choked or stabbed increase in frequency. Naturally, it was one of these moments that the original deal with De'Seil was made.

History
Found on the doorstep of one rundown orphanage, young Thomas was brought in and raised alongside other abandoned children. His early childhood has been forgotten to him, though he distinctly remembers the smell of lead paint of the play room walls. He hated that smell, and rarely played with the other children as a result of avoiding the room. Around 8 years of age, the nearby church paid a visit to the orphanage to donate what they could, and it was during this visit that a minister noticed the handsome boy. The older man took a liking - rather obsession - with the boy, visiting often under the pretense of donation. A few weeks of this passed before he could wait no more and adopted Thomas. Naturally, the boy was excited to be away from the orphanage, which he held little sentiment for. The church quickly became his new home, but he was oblivious to the intentions of his new guardian. The minister began slow, and introduced Thomas to the church as a prospective altar boy and taught him of the religion. The boy clung to the teachings and saw it as a sort of escape from his dreary life, but his union with God was short lived. One night, the man he called father crawled into bed with him and stole his innocence.

This continued for six years, with many in the church suspecting but remaining silent of the affair. The minister was pleased that Thomas remained as youthful as the first day he plucked him from the orphanage. Near the end of it, Thomas began to feel anger toward the minister but suppressed it in fear of the threats on his life. One night however, the man began touching him while they were sitting on the pews, just moments after a shared prayer. It was sacrilegious and horrifying, sparking his anger in the form of deadly flames. The minister was burned from the inside out, his screams alerting those in the church. Despite this, Thomas was unmoving for some time, simply staring down at the darkened body as the others shrieked in terror. It was not until one altar boy called him the devil that he was jolted from his reverie, eyes darkening in retaliation. He shouted something incoherent, a defense of some sort, but the memory escapes him. All that he knows is that the church became ashes that night and his body became covered in their soot. Image

He wandered for some time, alone, with his seemingly new powers at hand. Fueled by anger, Thomas made for a dangerous creature, often burning those who stood in his way. He lived in a stolen apartment for some time, masquerading as the child of the couple that owned the place. He was found out by a janitor that worked and lived in the apartment, but before he could get rid of her, she promised him that she would keep silent of his deed. And surprisingly, he believed her. Later, she often asked to come over to cook and clean for the boy. It took some time before he trusted the woman, but in time, he could almost call her a friend. She seemed to never age, remaining as spritely as ever as she cleaned, always while whistling the same, catchy tune. With his acceptance of her company, Thomas grew curious and sometimes asked to go over to her place, but she always claimed it was too messy. Still, he persisted, managing to sneak into the apartment when she was off visiting family. Inside, he found few pieces of furniture with only one desk that seemed to be used. He rifled through her books, reading them quickly, his eyes narrowing in indignation. The woman was a witch, and he a warlock, and she never thought to suggest the possibility to him! In retrospect, Thomas realized she must have known and simply refrained from informing him for whatever reason. He proceeded to learn about his race and the realm where most of his kind hails, Azure. While she was away, the boy continued to learn as much as he could, practising in the living room at controlling his powers. He didn't want to hurt others anymore, as his friendship with the witch made him realize, and so he devoted the rest of his time on healing and defensive spells. Thomas wanted to do some good in the world, even if he thought his God had given up on him, he didn't want to give up his God.

Nearing the end of his temporary stay, Thomas tried to recreate the mess of papers on her desk, though he didn't care much in concealing his presence. In fact, he hoped she would question him, for he too had many questions for her. In his clumsiness, the boy knocked over a music box from the desk, its tune paralyzing his movements to retrieve it. It was the same tune she always sung, but sounding much more sinister. He continued to listen as he examined the box, fingers tracing the runes as began comparing them to her grimoire. He checked it over and over again, but he found the same result each time. It was a spell to leech life and power from those who heard it. Thomas had heard it for months now, and even hummed it in the presence of his neighbour's baby boy. His knuckles whitened, but he did nothing. Despite himself, Thomas still cared for her and so before she returned, he left. With him, a grimoire was taken.

There was one place he knew he could go, one he learned from the notes clipped within the stolen book.

After years of searching, Thomas managed to track down the Wish Master. Since then, he's been with the carnival.

In recent years, he's met a girl, one that used to visit the circus frequently. Naturally, he's warned her and demanded she stay away from the carnival, but she refuses, sneaking to his quarters to meet him in the middle of the night. At the very least, she has stopped watching the show, though Thomas fears that one day she will be branded, forever lost to him.

It was too early in the morning for there to be so much noise. It filtered into her sleeping mind like a jackhammer, jerking her awake. Granted, it was mid-morning and with a performance in the evening, most of the circus members were busy setting up the grounds for the audience.

Still, it was too early for Aaina, especially as she had spent the last night hunting and killing a man. Cracking open an eye to see the grey sky, she growled and tried to turn herself over and go back to sleep. It was too late though, she was already awake, and sluggishly she sat on her haunches. Her mind felt foggy and she shook her head in an attempt to clear it. No good. If anything, she felt worse. Stretching herself lightly, she gave her black coat a quick groom, pausing only when she reached her right shoulder.

The blood on it had dried, matting the dark hairs surrounding the wound. Testing it with a roll, she hissed softly at the pain--while more of an annoyance than anything else, it was bound to get in her way this evening. She couldn't perform as either animal or human with this hindering her. If only she hadn't broken though that window...

Gently, she licked the area around the wound, using the pad of her tongue to clear the blood and feel for glass shards. Fortunately it felt clear--she must have managed to pull them out properly last night then. Standing now, she applied her weight to her right foreleg and was pleasantly surprised to find she could still use it.

Somewhat. She growled when her body dipped slightly as she tried to walk.

There was no point in putting it off--she'd have to find Thomas and have him fix her. Just as she was about to leave her room, she remembered Mr. Seil's order and with a huff, she grabbed the bag holding her clothes with her jaw. Why people were so worried about her clothes, she'd never understand. They only provided minimal protection.

And in the circus, it was even worse. As she sauntered through the grounds, she snorted at the impractical outfits she spied. The long capes, the bagging shirts, the ballooning pants. So easy to rip and tear and pierce through. So easy to trap a person, to slow them down. No, there was no sense to any of this and she had long ago given up on it.

Sniffing the air several times as she moved, she managed to finally catch his scent properly. It led to his room, as usual, and she snorted again. Without fail, he was almost always here. He'd probably never leave the room if it weren't for the performances and soul collecting. Though she had no idea how Thomas managed the latter.

He was a creature of habit. Easy prey. Perhaps one day she should tell him that. Not now though. Using her claws, she scratched the door for his attention.

Oh wait, she wasn't supposed to do that. Dropping her bag, she shifted back to human, the black fur on her body melting into the warm chocolate of her skin. Her claws shrank, her canines shortened--all that strength, all that power disappearing into the ordinary human limbs she possessed. She could feel her muscles shift, her veins and arteries changing to match her new physiology, a process of diminishing and she couldn't stop frowning throughout the process.

Her wish would fix this.

Pulling herself together, she reoriented herself to her new dimensions, slowly getting to her feet and knocking on the door properly this time. Then she reached into her bag and pulled out the bright orange shorts and lime green tank top. The bare minimum to be considered 'covered'. For some reason her circus mates really liked this combo, their faces always brightening when they spotted her.

She dressed slowly, waiting for Thomas to open his door. "My shoulder hurts," she said as she pulled on the shorts. He probably could hear that through his door.

Probably.
