Description
The DMD is not an old military force. However, it spawned into existence soon after the discovery of necromancy, a magic to be used with extreme discretion and with significant rest periods between each cast. Of course, the scholars and the military were the first to get their hands on this magic, as well as their respective casters, offering them a position of their own in return for wealth. Those who refused could not refuse for long, as threats and talk of forced enlistment weaved their away around public gossip, possibilities that were all too real. Some were placed on duty within towns while others worked out in the field, bringing recovered bodies back to life, ones who had fulfilled their contract prior to enlistment. There had been rumors that people had been forced into the DMD against their will and without consent to any such contract, but they were not allowed to speak of such things. Not when they were watching. These were the Enforcers, who did not participate in battle but instead made sure that the Deadmen did as they were instructed. Objection to their rule was out of the question. Deadmen take the jobs deemed too treacherous or even suicidal in terms of danger, and alternatively doubling as forward scouts, sent out for cases in which certain areas had not been explored or identified clearly.
