When you hear the name Romano. You should shake in your shoes. That's what his father wanted. To be the most feared name in the business, if not the world. He's on a killing spree lately, and that's thrown Mike off his usual monkey see monkey do trail behind his father. He admits it, he doesn't want to exactly be in the gang like his father has already set in the gang history books. Mike has a passion for writing, and he loves every part of it. He's started writing letters to Lynn, but one of his father's right hands caught him, and long story short, that's why he has that kinda new gash on his chest.

He wants to maybe even destroy his father's gang from the inside out if it were possible, but that'd mean joining Lynn's gang just to have someone to look out for him.

Lynn ran her fingers through her hair as she paced. Mikey was late. He was never late. Had something happened? Or had he just been unable to get away from his family? That had to be it. He was fine, Lynn was sure of it. She forced herself to sit down and open one of her textbooks, staring blankly at the pages. The university provided them with an excellent cover to meet- after all, it wasn't unusual for her to be spending time on campus. And there were plenty of unused rooms for them to meet in.

She flicked through the pages of her textbook, not taking anything in. She couldn't relax. They'd had one or two close calls before, but this was the worst. Things were so much easier before they'd met- but at the same time, she wouldn't give him up for the world. She just wished their circumstances would change so that they didn't have to look over their shoulders every time they were together and that they could be together in public. But for now, that wasn't going to happen. Things were too bad, and it didn't look like they were going to improve any time soon. So she just had to worry every single time she was late.

She took her knife out of her pocket and stared at it, watching the distorted reflection in the casing. It had become her security blanket- she didn't dare leave the house without it. But even that didn't help- it just reminded her even more of the constant danger they were in. She was going to kill him when he turned up.

He didn't believe his dad was human after what had just happened.

"Michael Romano, what the fuck are these?" Mikey's eyes stayed cold as he was drug into his father's office like one of his prisoners of war, thrown on his knees, even with his hands tied behind his back. He just smirked. "You know exactly what the fuck they are, unless you're just that stupid." His father's blood pressure rose, and his hand crumpled all the poems Mikey had written, and had been secretly excited to show his work to his beloved, since she was allowed to the University.

"What did you just say to me, boy?" His father rose, his 6'5 figure all too menacing to non-family members. Mike didn't flinch. "I said you must be as smart as that whip you're fixin' ta use on me." Mike's accent shone through now, of all the times to do so. His father's face was rock hard, and he had a hint of an evil smile appearing. "You're damn right I am." He growled, and Mike screamed as the whip snapped against his skin, his shirt ripping even.

"Fuck!" Mike growled, and was on the ground on his chest, his father's feet in front of him. "You'll listen to me, boy. And you'll learn how to run this gang from the back of your hand, or so help me God-" Mike spit on his father's shoes. "Get him out of my sight, before I kill Liza's boy." Mike shuddered at his mother's name, and had tears prick at the back of his eyes. It wasn't the first time this had happened, and most certainly won't be the last.

The guards threw him in the 'holding cell' which was really his own room. It had a cheap twin bed against the wall, no sheets, and a broken window right above it. After sliding his leather jacket on, he popped the glass out of the window, and slid easily out of the small hole left. He didn't care if his parents found him missing. Anything was better than that hellhole. Now, he just had to remember his way to the University. It was routine thing, and his body was rejecting his movements as he ran through the woods, and came up on the far side of the University, walking casually as he could to the room he knew Lynn might just kill him in.

Mike's form stood in the doorway, and he could see Lynn's thumbing through a really thick book. "H-hey.." He stuttered, and couldn't quite get the whole word out. "Sorry I'm so late. I had a.. mishap." He shuddered, and the event replayed in his head and sat just a little too quick down in one of the desks, and shut his eyes. "Agh." He groaned, and he felt the blood ooze through his badboy leather.

She looked up as somebody came in. For a millisecond, her brain tried to decide if it was relieved or angry- but decided on relief. She got to her feet and put the knife back in her pocket, grinning at him. But something was wrong- his speech was off. As she was about to ask what happened, he sat down a little too quickly in a desk and groaned. The grin slid from Lynn's face, and she was over to him straight away.

"Mikey, what's wrong?" She asked as she reached him. But it was then that she caught a glimpse of the gash on his back. She walked around to get a better look at it. For a moment, she was stunned into silence. But then, both her words and her anger came back.

"Who did this, Mikey?" She asked quietly, her fingers hovering a few inches away from his back. "I'll fucking murder them," she muttered, half to herself and half to him. "Take off your jacket, let me have a better look at this," she instructed. She was furious. Had she been alone, she probably would have broken something by now- but she didn't know if that would exactly help. She just wanted to make whoever had done this pay.

But at the same time, if she did, then whoever it was would know that there was something between them. And then they'd both be in massive shit. So she couldn't actually do that. She sighed a little.

Mikey ashamedly peeled off his jacket, grimacing as it made his whole body cringe. "Lynnie.." He chuckled softly, and his jacket laid on the desk in front of him. "Don't blow a fuse, love. Look, I'm still alive, aren't I?" Mikey halfway smiled, and looked up at her.

"Don't let your emotions control you. That's what King does, and-" He stopped himself mid-sentence. He hated his father that much more in that moment because of what Mikey was forced to call him since he was born practically. The King."If you let your emotions control, then they'll find out about us.. and.. I may never see you again." His voice dropped low at that last part. He lived for these meetings. He couldn't wait 'til the end of the week to come see her, and just be himself.

"I wrote you some stuff, but he ripped'em up. I think.. I think I can 'member one." He looked around the room, grabbing a pen that was on the floor. "Gimme your hand, Lynn." He said. "C'mon, lemme see it." He took her hand once she held it out, and oh so gently wrote three little words.

I love you. Then curled her fingers up, so her hand was in a fist.

He then capped the pen, and stuck it in his back pocket, and sat on top of the desk. "Go on." He nodded towards her hand. "Open it." He ran a hand through his hair, and watched her eyes.

She examined his back and relaxed a little. It wasn't as bad as she'd originally thought. It was clean and narrow, and would probably heal easy enough. If he took it easy, which he wouldn't. But as he spoke, her hand curled into a fist on his back. It wasn't fair. Her own parents were bad, but not that bad. Never that bad.

As he asked for her hand, she sat in front of him, raising her eyebrow as she held out her hand. The pen against her skin tickled, but she managed not to pull away. And it didn't last particularly long, anyway. He curled her fingers back into a fist, sending shivers down her spine at the brief contact. Once she'd reclaimed her hand, she stayed looking at him, hoping for a little bit of an explanation. But she didn't get one, so she opened her hand and read the words. Despite herself, despite everything else, she smiled, staring at the words for a few seconds.

"You're such a fucking dork, Mikey," she said, slapping his arm a little. "C'mere," she said, kissing him. She wished that they could be like this all the time- that she could kiss him whenever she wanted, that he could write her poetry without having his dickhead of a father ripping it up, that they could be seen in public.

"I thought girls were supposed to be the soppy ones in relationships," she said, keeping her face in close proximity to his. Then her smirk broadened a little. "Then again, we've never been one for stereotypes, have we?" She said, laughing a little.

He laughed as she slapped him playfully, and the grin only grew when she kissed him, and he kissed her right back. "Still sweet as cherries, aren't ya?" Mikey chuckled, and let his fingertips run down the right side of her face."No m'am, we invent new boundaries." He sighed softly, and let his guard down finally relaxing to her.

He leaned towards her, his forehead resting on her shoulder, his nose in her collarbone."Do you like my accent, love?" He wondered, and lightly touched his nose to her neck, before planting ever so slight kisses along her baby soft skin. "You're beautiful, you know that." He mumbled, and end with a short kiss to her nose, closing his eyes and letting his hands pull her closer to him. His fingers looping in her belt loops. "Do me a favor, remind me to legally change my last name before we get too serious." He teased, his hands going up her back slowly.

He was chewing his lip ring, which he knew was an awful habit that he couldn't break. He was chewing it, and swallowed when he was starting to doze off on Lynn's shoulder. "Aye, I'm up, I'm up." He felt a lazy grin spread on his face as he looked up to Lynn.

As his fingers ran down the side of her face, her smile only broadened. She'd never had anything like this with anybody- boys tended to be afraid of her, and she generally liked that. She didn't want to let anyone in. But Mikey, she didn't have to let him in. He understood why she was the way she was.

As his nose brushed her neck and he asked about his accent, she laughed a little. "Of course I do, love," she replied, running her fingers through his hair. As he started to kiss her neck, she closed her eyes, grinning when he kissed her nose. She allowed him to pull her closer. This was what she lived for. This is what got her through the days of missing him. Her own arms moved to wrapping around his neck, keeping him close. She craved the physical intimacy most of all. Not the kissing or the sweet words- the feeling of being close to somebody she loved and knowing that they loved her back.

She rested her head on him as he ran his hands up her back. She didn't care if he could feel the goosebumps or not- she just wanted to be as close to him as possible. It was only when he didn't move for a few seconds that she realised he'd been starting to doze off. She laughed, which was enough of a reaction to wake him. His grin was lazy and adorable as he looked back up at her. She kissed him gently again, still grinning.

Her grin slid right off of her face as the door opened. Her hand went straight to her pocket and wrapped around the knife. But as she took in who it was, she relaxed a little. It was one of the girls from her History class- not either of their families.

"Oh, shit, Lynn, sorry. Didn't realise this was... ah, occupied," the girl said, clearly awkward. "I was just looking for Mr. Fitz's class, I can never find it," she babbled on.

"Maria, it's fine. Just... do me a favour and don't say anything about this? To anyone. I'm serious, Maria, okay?" Lynn asked. Maria nodded, looking Mikey up and down. "Sure," the other girl agreed, before leaving. Lynn sighed heavily and rested her head against Mikey's shoulder. "That was too close," she exhaled, wrapping her arms around him.

"Nothing like a little anticipation to get your blood boiling." He murmured, due to his still half asleep state. "Hey, even if our folks did find out about us, then.. we'd be okay." Mikey leaned his head against hers, kissing the top of her head softly, his fingertips running up and down her back. "We'll make it, as long as you love me." He smiled, and hugged her to him, his arms on her shoulders, pulling her to his chest.

"I'd take you back to my place, but.. my parents are dicks." He grinned, and sighed softly. "And so are yours, so.. we have some dickhead in-laws going on." He lightheartedly teased, and breathed in her scent. "Maybe we could just get our own place out of the country or somethin'." He furrowed his eyebrows as he was investigating the idea further internally.

"It wouldn't be that bad, really. Just gotta get some cash from the ol' man, and I'm all yours, baby." He grinned, suddenly uplifted. "C'mon Lynn, we could get some cash and just roam the entire world. Just you and me." Mikey squished her cheeks with his hands as he kissed her sweet lips. "We'd be safe in France. King's got nothin' over there, and your folks aren't half of mine."He felt his face light up.

Even as her heart pounded, she smiled as he kissed the top of her head. His hands running up and down her back was oddly comforting, and she could already feel her heart rate slowing. "We'd get by," she agreed, mumbling a little. "We'll make it, She said, grinning up at him and kissing him on the cheek. She laughed gently at his comment. "That would be one awkward Christmas dinner," she remarked, laughing a little.

"Mm," she agreed as he suggested going to a different country. She didn't think he'd keep talking about it, though- but he did. She grinned at his enthusiasm, looking up at him. She laughed a little with surprise as he kissed her, squishing her cheeks. "Paris," she said. "The city of romance."

"Let's do it," she said, mimicking his enthusiasm. The thought of actually being able to be this physically close as much as she wanted, of being able to see him and kiss him whenever, was amazing. They could do it. They were adults, their parents had no legal power over him. "Let's run away."

Mikey almost couldn't believe his ears as her soft voice agreed with his crazy plan. "Wh-what?" He looked at her, and raised his eyebrow. "You really want to do this?" He grinned so much bigger, and couldn't for the life of him wipe it off. "Oh, Lynnie." He held her hips as he pulled her close and just kissed the hell out of her lips. "I'm gonna love you for the rest of my life." He murmured as he slowly broke the kiss, and then looked around the room excitedly.

"We need something to keep us motivated.." He bit his lip, and was quickly searching through drawers when he found some paperclips, and straightened them completely out. He made a single circle with the band, and then with what was left over he twirled it around and around the single band, so it was a curly ring, that resembled a silver wedding band. "Here." He grabbed her hand and carefully slid it on her thumb. "Thumb rings aren't suspicious, and if anyone asks, you made it yourself." He grinned, and pecked her head. As he did the same thing to the other one, sliding it on his thumb, he thought about the plan forming in his head.

"Alright, we'll need a week max. Get as much money as you possibly can, and we'll keep it somewhere safe. Then, next Friday, we're getting the hell out of here. I swear on my life, Lynn. We're getting out of here. " He grinned, and just lovingly gazed at her beautiful eyes. "I'll never get tired of looking at those beautiful eyes of yours." He mumbled, and returned to his spot on the desk, nipping her nose with his teeth.

She watched as he searched through the desk, still grinning. The thought of being together like this all the time was making her a little giddy, and she couldn't wait to get away. Somewhere where her family couldn't have any power over her. Somewhere where they could just be themselves. No more looking over their shoulders.

She watched him making the ring, still grinning. The metal was warm from where he'd manipulated it into the shape. She nodded at his instructions, twisting it around her thumb. It was a little lose, but she didn't mind that. She could play with it that way.

She laughed as he told her the plan, nodding. They were getting away. They were finally getting away from everything that they hated and everything they feared.

"Shakespeare hasn't got anything on you," she teased, kissing him as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him a little closer. It was going to be a long week. It was so close, yet so far away at the same time. She pulled him as close as possible, one hand running through his hair. It was only when she remembered her impending lecture that she broke away and sighed. "Hold on," she muttered, retrieving her phone out of her pocket. She glanced at the time and groaned. "I'd better go, my lecture starts in ten and it's the other side of the building. "Same time, same place next week?" She asked, standing up. "And then we can run," she said, kissing him goodbye before she left. As she headed towards her lecture theatre, she played with the ring on her thumb. They'd make it. They'd be fine.

"Fuck no he doesn't." Mikey grinned, and squeezed his arms around her tiny waist, his hands in her jean pockets, and his lips crashing into hers. He was really getting into the kiss she started, and pouted as she verbally stopped him, and he narrowed his eyes. The groan that followed made his mood drop.

"What? Can't you skip it or something?" He groaned annoyingly, and sighed. "Fine, you better make it worth my while, you tease." He played a grin on his lips, and kissed her goodbye before sadly watching her walk out the door as he still leaned against one of the desks. He twirled his thumb ring, and ran a hand through his hair before shutting the door behind him, and sneaking off to the room he'd so obviously escaped from.

However, it wasn't exactly the way he left it. The window was still popped out, and Mikey climbed back through, but wished he could have back tracked when King was standing there, his arms crossed sternly, and his eyes had fire in them, he swore. Needless to say, Mikey couldn't sleep that night. Not from exhaustion, but from the fact that his back was peeled raw almost.

-Next Morning -

Mikey was forcefully awoken by the same guards that throw him around, and he sighed, but surprised that they didn't tie him up. "Alright. Where are we going?" The guard nodded, and took him to King's office, again. "Aye, can I at least get a bite to eat before you kill me?" Mikey seethed, and King grunted. "Why don't you treat your elder with some respect, and you might actually get fed?" He spit back. "You're not here to be whipped, but I can definitely change it, if you desire so, boy." Mikey shook his head, and King laughed.

" I need you to do an errand, boy." Mikey rolled his eyes. "I ain't going back to that Chinatown place. That joint was hell." King shook his head. "No, I need you to kill him." He pointed to a picture on his desk, of a man with a family... and... was that Lynn? Mikey looked at the picture closer. "Name's Sanford. They're my only competition, and I don't need any competition, friendly or not." King hissed.

Mikey shook his head. "The Sanfords? King, that family hasn't done anything to us." King furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you questioning my tactics?" Mikey bit his lip nervously. "They've helped our family before, is all'm sayin'. They're allies." King shook his head, and handed Mikey a handheld gun with a single bullet loaded. "Do it, or so help me God, I'll make sure you don't have a chance to." He threatened, and Mikey holstered the weapon in the back of his pants, his shirt covering the gun.

King dismissed him, and Mikey started to go into a state of panic. "I can't kill him.. I need to find Lynn.." He mumbled, and thought for a minute. Would she be at the University?

Lynn stared at the twisted paper clip ring, rolling it between her fingers. She'd forgotten to take it off before going to bed, so it was a little bent out of shape in places. But it still fit, and she was still going to wear it until it fell off. A sudden knock at the door startled her out of her thoughts, and she tucked it under the edge of her notebook. "Come in," she called, turning around to face the door. Her father stood at the door, as impeccably dressed as ever. She couldn't help but mentally compare him to King. It was like comparing fire to water. King was cruel, verging on evil. She'd heard stories, both from Mikey and other people, about the atrocities he'd committed while trying to make himself as powerful as possible. She'd never seen or heard of her father doing anything similar. And even if he did- he'd never whipped her for daring to express herself. Even the nose piercing had simply resulted in a scolding.

"Lynn, we need to talk," he said. Those few words were enough for her stomach to twist uncomfortably. Had he found out? Did he know about her and Mikey? He came in and sat on the edge of her bed, his hands knitted together.

"You know how relations have been between us and the Romanos," he said. That wasn't a question- Lynn had been at every meeting since the age of sixteen. If anyone knew what things were like, it was her. She nodded. The relations between the two families had been up and down for years. When the Romanos needed an ally, they were best friends with the Sanfords- but when the Romanos wanted land, they were at each other's throats.

"Well, things have gotten worse. They haven't been this bad since you were born. King believes that he is entitled to some of our land, and he isn't happy that we told him where to go with it. And we believe that things are about to get... messy. I know you're well able to protect yourself but-"

Lynn knew exactly what was coming and cut him off. "No. I'm not having bodyguards tail me around."

"Lynn, it's for your own safety."

"I'll just double up the amount of weapons I carry then. I'll work on my aim with a gun. But I'm not having guards follow me around. It's hard enough to get a seat in Ancient History without having to also find seats for two bodyguards as well," she joked, but he didn't grin.

"Lynn, you need to think about this."

"I could give them the slip when I was sixteen, and I'm still able to."

He sighed heavily. She knew he only wanted to keep her safe, but bodyguards would mean she couldn't meet Mikey. And that wasn't an option.

"I want you to carry a gun, then. And work on your aim so you don't end up shooting yourself or the person standing beside you," He relented. Lynn nodded. He stood up and left, leaving Lynn to her reading and her musings.

Having gotten the essay finished, she was leaning back in her chair, stretching, when the knocking at the window came. Her hand was around the knife in her pocket and she was on her feet before she had really taken in what had happened. She rolled her eyes as she saw Mikey there.

"Are you insane or just stupid? My father was here literally like half an hour ago," she hissed as she opened the window, grabbing his hands to help him climb in. "You're going to get yourself shot," she muttered, looking him up and down. But underneath her complaints, her stomach was twisting. Between her father saying that things were getting worse and now Mikey turning up at her window, she was getting the feeling that something was really wrong.

"What's wrong?" She asked, finally allowing some of her concern to show through. "Is it King? What the fuck did he do this time?"

Mikey climbed in, and kissed her cheek after they stood for a minute. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, and sitting on the edge of her bed. "King.. has done so many things to me, and I've put up with it forever. But.. he's not just doing it to me now. " He cringed, and wouldn't look at Lynn.

"He wants me to kill your father, Lynn. He's declaring gang war against your father." He sighed annoyingly. "We all need to leave right now." He pulled out the handheld King had given him. "It has one bullet in it. It's meant for your father, but I'm not doing it. " He handed the gun to Lynn.

"I.. I love you too much to hurt someone you obviously love and care for."

Lynn sat down beside him as he spoke, not saying anything. She just took the gun and stared at it. Thoughts ran through her mind- she could take on King herself, but she could end up dead, and her family would still be in danger. She could warn her father- but she could only see things ending badly that way. Their only choice was to run. King couldn't get either of them then. Staying wasn't an option- King would probably kill or seriously injure Mikey that way, and then turn on Lynn's family and probably Lynn herself."

"Meet me at our usual spot in half an hour," she whispered to him, not daring to say it aloud. "We're leaving. Staying here would only mean putting more people in danger. But if we go, then we can't be used against our families, our families can't be used against us, and we'll be together," she said, kissing his cheek gently. "Go home and get anything that you need to get, and meet me in the usual spot. I love you," she said, turning his face towards her and leaning up to kiss him. It felt surreal- him being here in her bedroom. But it was also dangerous, and he needed to go as quickly as possible.

"Go. I'll see you soon," She said, pushing him towards the window. She pulled out the duffel bag that her parents had gotten her last year for a trip to Rome with some of her friends from university and started shoving clothes into it. Practical stuff- jeans, jumpers, t-shirts, runners... And then, of course, some pretty things. Once she had her bag packed with essentials and a few extras, she turned to her desk and started scribbling her parents a letter. Explaining that it was too dangerous for her to stay around, that she was going with somebody she loved, and that she'd call as soon as she was safe.

And then she climbed out the window for what felt like the last time.

"Usual Spot. Got it." He nodded in return, and kissed her lips for what felt like only a second. When she pushed him towards the window, he went out, carefully making sure no one saw him leave, and then booked it back to his own home. Unfortunately, nothing would ever go smoothly.

King, being the tough guy he was, was unusually quiet. "I see you've returned." Mikey stopped in his tracks, his hand clutching a duffel bag. "You can't make me kill anyone. So.. So, I'm leaving." King shrugged. "Great. One less mouth to feed." Mikey sneered, making sure he had enough to last him for awhile. "Well, I'm leaving, and there's nothing you can do to destroy me now, you filthy bastard." King sneered at his words, and Mikey left, glancing at the clock. Just enough time to get to the University.

He made it with a minute or so to spare. Lynn was in his sights, and he couldn't be happier. "I.. I managed to get some cash from my mum, ya know, trying to turn over a new leaf, get past all this gang stuff." He patted his bag, and grinned towards her. "You're finally mine." He kissed her head sweetly, and turned to where he'd just come from, and saw it.

"Lynn! Lynn, du-"

It was too late. King had a man follow him, and just like that his dreams were fading in his arms. "Lynn, it's ok, you'll be ok." He kissed her head needing to know she'd pull through for him. He searched her pockets, finding her phone. "Thank god." He mumbled, calling 911. All of his future was laying there, blood on his hands.

The man had vanished, and everything next was just a blur. The ambulance had arrived, and Mikey held on to Lynn's belongings as well as his, riding in the ambulance with her, holding her hand, with a distant look in his eyes. Then, he was in a waiting room for hours upon hours, he couldn't believe this is how they started their new life together.

Finally, finally, a man approached him, but it wasn't a doctor. It was a deputy. "Mr. Romano, please stand up and put your hands on your head. You're under arrest for the attempted murder of {Insert first name} Sanford. " Mikey's grew huge. "But, I didn't do nothin', I swear, I gave the gun away, I-I.." His eyes went cold.

King's name was written all over this.

She grinned as she saw him, speeding up a little bit. This was it. She was finally getting away from everything. "Yeah, I got-" She started to say, but then she saw the look on his face and started to turn before the warning had even started to leave his mouth. But it came too late. The shot came milliseconds before the pain exploded in her side. Her feet crumpled from underneath her and she hit the ground, unable to make a sound, hardly able to breathe.

Her father had been right. He'd predicted this- but even bodyguards couldn't have stopped this. Because to meet Mikey, she would have given them the slip and come here, and the exact same thing would have happened. She was vaguely aware of Mikey talking, but she didn't know if it was to her or to someone else. Her hand pressed against the wound, but it wasn't much good. The pain wasn't fading at all. Then an ambulance arrived. Her vision was blurry, and all she was aware of was the yellow jackets of the paramedics and the pressure of Mikey's hand in hers.

But when they got to the hospital, even that was pulled away from her as they rushed her to surgery. She wanted to call out to him, but didn't have the strength. It was gone. Their happy ending was gone, just like that. Because now everyone would know, everyone would ask why she was with the Romano boy and everything would change.

She wasn't particularly aware of the preparation for surgery- the only thing she was really aware of was the anaesthetist leaning over her and speaking to her. He had a friendly face, and she was glad that was the last thing she saw before finally, finally giving into the sleep that had been calling her name.

When she woke up, the pain was numbed, almost gone. Her throat was dry, though, and she still felt tired. She was alone. Where was Mikey? Maybe he'd just left the room for a bit. She fell back asleep, thinking that that was all that was wrong.

But when she woke up again, it was her mother by her bedside, not Mikey. "Mom?" She forced out, the pain increasing for a minute. "Lynn! Oh, thank god you're okay. You had us all terrified for a bit there. Your father knew this was happening, he called it..." She said. "Where's..." Lynn started, but then had to stop. Her mom finished the sentence, albeit incorrectly. "Your father? At the police station, love. He's fine, he's fine, it's just some Romano got into his office and... well, yes, he's talking to them now. But, Lynn, love..." Her mother's voice quietened as she reached over to stroke Lynn's hair.

"The nurses said you came in with some boy... who was then arrested. They said he looked an awful lot like King Romano," she said, sarcasm seeping in at the mention of the Romano patriarch. "What happened, Lynn?"

"Mikey was arrested?" Lynn said in disbelief, but her voice cracked. Her mother handed her a glass of water, and Lynn took a sip out of it. "Is that his name? Mikey?" Her mother asked. She wasn't angry. She was concerned. Lynn nodded. "Lynn, was he with you when this happened? Is he who you were going to run away with?" She asked. Lynn couldn't answer. This was it. She was admitting it to her mother.

"Lynn, I won't be angry. You can't help who you fall in love with. I just need to know. Because if you love him and he didn't do anything wrong, then I will do my damn best to get him out of trouble." She smiled. "If only to spite King." Lynn grinned and nodded. Of course her mother would understand. "He's nothing like King, though... King punishes him for stupid things, like writing poetry. I'll speak to the police if I have to," she said. Her mother smiled.

"That's my girl. I think they want to speak to you anyway, if only about the person who shot you. Don't worry, your uncle is working on tracking that bastard down. I better tell the nurses you're awake- and then I'm going to bring in the police and we can talk to them together, okay?"

Lynn nodded and relaxed. When the nurse came in, it was like a weight was gone from Lynn's shoulders. The policeman who came in was lovely- he listened to the both of them, and took everything on board.

"Miss Sanford, your story ties in with what my colleagues have heard from Mr. Romano. You may very well get him off. Thank you both, and I'll tell my boss this immediately."

Lynn grinned, leaning back as the nurse came in to deliver her painkillers. She'd done it.

"Alright son, looks like you're clear. Sorry about the confusion." The man came from Lynn's room, and uncuffed him finally as he stood by the squad car outside. "Thanks a million, sir. Terribly sorry." The man tipped his head, and his car left the parking lot without another word.

Mikey, having reclaimed his and Lynn's things, rushed back inside. "Where is she?" The nurse pointed down the hall, and opened the door quietly, unaware of her mother in the room. "Lynn, baby?" He almost whispered, and a huge grin was on his face as he saw her awake, and then it faded a little as he saw her mother. "Um.. How are you, Mrs. Sanford? I'm awfully sorry about the trouble King's causing lately. I hope you understand." He looked down as he sat on the other side of the bed, and took Lynn's hand, his fingers entwined with hers, and kissing her skin softly.

"I'm so glad you're okay, I would've killed him if he killed you. I might still kill'm." He mumbled, but closed his eyes, and held her hand to his nose, kissing it. "You still got your ring on." He said with a sense of shock, he thought she'd think it was stupid or too much. Something along those lines.

Their bags by his feet, he yawned, and kinda laid his head on his arm, which was propped on the bed, on her good side. "Don't you ever fucking scare me again, Lynn Sanford. Ever." He said lightly.

Her mother just laughed at the awkward greeting. "It's fine, love. And while I don't understand, I most certainly can't blame you. I better go explain things to your father before he freaks out on finding a Romano in our daughter's hospital room. Oh, by the way, she's just had her pain meds, so she'll probably be a little out of it for a bit," her mother explained on her way out the door.

"Mom, I'm fine!" Lynn insisted, before turning her attention to Mikey. She chuckled at his comment about killing him. "You'll have to race the majority of my family to it. Apparently there's already at least one uncle on the case," she remarked. She glanced down at the ring as he pointed out. She'd forgotten it to be honest, and she was surprised they hadn't taken it off before surgery. Maybe they'd missed it.

She stroked his hair gently as he laid his head down on the bed. "I'll try. My father probably won't let me leave the house without two heavily armed guards from now on, so I don't think you need to worry too much," she teased. "Anyway, I have you to look after me, don't I? Even if we can't go to France. My family knows now, and I dare bet King has an idea now. We just might have to wear bulletproof vests in public now," she remarked. The pain meds weren't quite knocking her out of it, but she was definitely more relaxed than usual. But she didn't mind that- she could relax for now.

Mikey grinned at Lynn, and sat back up for just a second and peppered kisses on her nose and cheeks, before landing on her lips for a solid kiss. "You know I love you, don't you?" He said softly, and his hand brushed her cheek, tucking hair behind her ear. "If we can't leave yet, then maybe I can get you something a little sturdier than paper clips with that money." He smiled, and investigated her ring, bending a little so it wasn't quite so oval-shaped.

"Of course I'll look after you. You aren't gonna whip me if I write you poetry, are you?" He sighed, and kissed her hand, before returning his head to it's laying position.

She grinned and let him kiss her, kissing him back as he came to her lips. "Of course I do," she replied, taking his hand as he tucked her hair behind her ear. She kissed his forehead as he played with her ring, pushing it back into shape. Her drug-hazed mind didn't take in exactly what he meant by buying her a proper ring, but she just liked the idea of having something concrete from him, something that wasn't a paperclip ring or something she could pass off as being from one of her friends.

"Of course not," she said as his head returned to where it had been and she returned to stroking his hair. "Those days are behind you now. My father can be a scary person, but he trusts my mom. My mom has the greatest intuition in the world, so if she trusts you, he'll trust you too. He just might threaten you with what will happen if you hurt me," she said, laughing a little.

"I still want to go to Paris though," she mused. "Even just on a holiday. Will you bring me to Paris someday, Mikey?" She asked. The stronger painkillers were really starting to take effect now- she could feel them erasing the last few traces of her pain and starting to scatter her thoughts.

"I'll take you wherever you wish, milady." He grinned contently, and sighed as she ran her hands through his hair. "I'll even grow my hair out if you want me to, I'll do anything you want, Lynn, I love you so much." He exhaled, and kissed the palm of her hand, resting his hand on top of hers as it rested on his cheek.

"I'm sorry you're stuck with me forever, love." He grinned, and had the perfect idea for her ring.

She laughed at his comment about his hair, and let him kiss her hand. "Don't grow out your hair, you'll have to put up with me trying out weird, random hairstyles on you," she said. "And besides, I love you exactly as you are. Dorky poetry and all," she teased gently.

"You're stuck with me forever as well," she said. "Mood swings and bad cooking and all," she teased, stroking his cheek with her thumb from where it was pressed against his cheek. She didn't know if she really meant forever- but it meant for a while into the future, at least, and really, wasn't that enough?

"I still can't believe that we can actually do this and not be looking over our shoulders," she remarked. "I just can't wait to get out of here and actually hang out together in public," she said, still stroking his cheek. "But only a day or two to wait," she said. "Only a day or two."
