Shiro walked through the halls silently. She'd gotten so used to blocking out the stares, the whispering, the name calling, and the pain from everything was almost completely numb now.
It'd been like this for years, ever since she was 12, when both her best friend, and first (and last) boyfriend died... because of her. Because of her curse. Before that, she didn't even know she was cursed, or that her mom was an angel of death. After she found out the truth and the died, she closed herself off from other people and pushed anyone who tried to get close to her away. Nothing has gone well for her since then, but it doesn't matter as long as everyone around her is safe.
When she entered the classroom, things got quiet. She ignored the looks everyone was giving her and sat at her desk in the back corner of the room, staring out the window at the schoolyard below.
The class started talking again, and she pretended like she didn't hear any comments about herself that they obviously wanted her to hear.

Aiden watched Shiro as she entered the classroom and sat at her desk in the back, distant from the rest of them. "Just like always..." he sighed.
His friend gave him a weird look. "Of course it's "just like always". What did you expect? She's a stuck up freak who thinks she's better than everyone else. She won't talk to anyone, much less look at them."
He looked at his friend a bit annoyed, "Oh yeah, because I'd definitely want to talk to people who call me a freak. Get real, man. She's probably just really shy..."
His friend rolled his eyes, "You're crazy, dude, but whatever."
He kept hearing the comments from his classmates, and it just seemed to tick him off more. He was getting tired of hearing this crap everyday. Couldn't they all just get over themselves?

"Yeah, Aiden, he's right." said a girl sitting close to him. She glanced at Shiro, then back at Aiden with a smirk, "Watch this." and she motioned for two other girls to follow her. They walked over to Shiro's desk, arms crossed.

Shiro heard someone say, "Hey, Shiro, could I borrow your notes from yesterday?" She looked over at who spoke to see three girls staring at her with smug expressions. She didn't react to them and just look out the window again. A hand slammed on her desk, making her jump and look back at the girls. "I asked if I could borrow your notes."
"Ask someone else." she replied.
"Sorry, but I'm asking you," the two girls behind her grabbed Shiro's bag and dumped it on the floor. "Oops." and they all started laughing.
Shiro just stared at the girls, hand twitching.
The girls stopped laughing when they saw her level expression. "Look, b**ch, no one wants you here, so you should just disappear already."

Really pissed now, I ((changing to first person)) stood up, walked over, and put my hand on the girl's shoulder. "That's. Enough."
I looked at Shiro. Why the heck won't she defend herself? And even if they're right about her, doing things like this is wrong.

"Wha-!" The lead girl started to say, but Shiro interrupted.
"It's fine... They can do what they want, I... I don't really care..."
She glanced up at Aiden, then looked down, letting her hair fall in front of her face to make a wall between them.

"Ha!" the lead girl exclaimed. "See? What did we tell you, Aiden? The b**ch just blew you off! You're just wasting your time on an arrogant freak like her!" She was yelling by the end.

My hand tightened on the girl's shoulder, and she winced. I kept my eyes on Shiro, even as she hid behind her hair.
When I spoke, my voice was dangerously low, "I said. That's enough. Get it?"
She stuttered, "Y-y-yeah," before I let go of her and she hurried away, her friends following, giving me incredulous looks that I didn't even notice.

Shiro stood up, her chair falling back with her sudden movement. Still not looking at Aiden, her nails digging into the palm of her hands as she balled them into fists, she mimicked him, "And I said, it's fine. Get it?" Why the hell was this guy causing more trouble. Because of him, more people would pay attention to her. If more people paid attention to her, there would only be more problems for everyone.
She heard someone start to say, "W-why you ungrateful-" before bolting from the classroom, pushing through anyone in front of her. 'Idiot! That guy's an idiot!'

I watched, shocked, as the girl stood up, knocking her chair over. Everything in the room went silent. When she mimicked me, telling me again that "it's fine" I got very annoyed, and kind of angry, and then curiosity and confusion took hold as well when she bolted.
'It... It kind of looked like... she was about to cry...'
Before I knew it, my legs took me out of the classroom to follow her. When I looked down the hallway, she was already gone. "Damn... I really don't get her." I figured I may as well try to find her, after all, skipping class by yourself isn't all that fun...

Shiro sat on the edge of the stage in the empty school auditorium, swinging her legs as she looked down at the carpeted ground floor. Her eyes were wide as she was putting herself in a trance by thinking over and over again,

"Calm down. Don't cry. Calm down."

Sure kids were mean to her, but she was fine wit that. It... It's what she wanted! If they hate she they won't get hurt... she can't accidentally kill them... But people persistent like that guy, like Aiden, make it so stupidly difficult. If he's even the slightest bit nice, it hurts more because she knows it's gonna end. Any good feelings will disappear.

"But it's okay. It's fine. I-I want him to hate me..." lie.

For the past week, she thought it had been strange. That Aiden guy's attitude had been different towards her, kind of maybe nice, so she'd been extra cold to him! So why the heck did the idiot do what he did in the classroom? Being nice only hurts her more because she'll have to hurt the other person, even if it means being cruel. Can't he just leave her alone like everyone else? Okay, from now on, no matter what he did, she wouldn't react. From this moment forward, the guy named Aiden was a nonexistence.

She nodded to herself. Now all she needed to do was calm down so she could get back to class... Or maybe she'd just go home today.

I walked through the hallways, annoyance rising with every step.
Where the heck did that girl disappear to!? I came out right after her, so why can't I find her!?
I stopped walking, and sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose as I tried to kill the anger. It was difficult. I wasn't use to getting angry or annoyed or anything, so I wasn't really sure how to handle it. I glanced to the side, and had to do a double take. I could see her through the little window of the far door leading into the auditorium. She was just sitting there, kicking her feet of the stage.
I straightened up, and opened the auditorium door, walking up towards her. Why the heck was I so annoyed? Why should I care if she wants to get bullied? Why should I care if she didn't want me to help? Why should I..?
I froze where I was, eyes widening. All thoughts and feeling of anger and annoyance towards this girl disappeared in an instance. I could see the tears glistening on her cheeks. My heart twisted in my chest. She... Shiro was crying... And I had absolutely no idea what to do.

Shiro didn't notice as Aiden walked into the auditorium and approached her. Not until she gave a big sigh, wiped her eyes and cheeks, and looked up as she jumped down from the stage.

When her eyes met his, they widened with shock and panic before she got control. She stood, staring at him with a cold gaze. What was with his expression? She didn't know, and though she herself appeared calm and collected, inside she was completely freaking out. Why was he here? What the heck did he think he was doing appearing like this? She knew he must have seen her in her moment of weakness, and that made her want to get out of there and away from him as soon as possible.

She looked past him, and walked forward, barley brushing his sleeve as she passed by him on the narrow isle way. Ignoring him and keeping a cold outward mask was difficult, but she was managing.

Aiden saw her emotional moment end almost as soon as their eyes met. He watched her face slacken of emotions, and the look she was giving him could make hell freeze over. Then she looked past him, as if he didn't exist, and brushed by him in much the same manner. Before he knew what he was doing, he shot a hand out, latching it onto one of her arms.

"Hold up!" He felt his emotions become how they were before: confuse, annoyed, and aggravated. "Why do you keep doing that, huh? You were hurt. Why do you let them do that? Why do you always try to hide?" He shook his head, actually feeling a little desperate, "And then you run away when someone tries to help you. I don't get it."

Shiro made sure not to look back at him. She kept her eyes trained on the door. She tried twisting her wrist, but the guy had a good grip on her. Why does he keep bothering her?

"You don't have to get it because it doesn't involve you." Ice laced her voice. She needed him to hate her, just like everyone else. "You're only being annoying. Can't you just leave me alone from now on?"

"Annoying? It doesn't involve me!?" I took some deep breaths to try and calm myself, and when I was sure my voice would come out cool and even like it should, I said, "I'm the one who tried to help you, so, yeah, it does involve me." I noticed her trying to twist out of my grip and let go of her arm. Seriously, though, what was wrong with this girl?

"Look, I helped you, so just tell me. Why do you LET them bully you without even TRYING to defend yourself?" He really hoped to get an answer out of her. None of this made any sense. With how vehemently she told him NOT to help her, he was 100% sure she could stand up for herself if she wanted to, so why didn't she?
