Ever since fairytales came into existence, stories of underwater mermaids and sirens of the deep began to enchant the hears of eager listeners and continued to do so throughout history, each tale developing into theories and experiments as time went on. An entire culture came into being, centered around the love of these fantastical mythological creatures under the sea. XXX
But, of course, these stories are only stories, not truth - or so many believe. XX
Underneath the sea, these wondrous creatures do indeed exist, and not quite in the way one would expect. Hidden beneath powerful magic spells, there lie entire communities beneath the sea, just as advanced as human cities and each harboring their own individual cultures. The mer-creatures who reside in these communities are known as the Nareii, underwater mages of high skill. XX
While there are those who prefer to don their beautiful fish-like tails as a symbol of tradition, many of the Nareii choose to move about with human legs, their own individual gravity holding them down. Food is caught and created, all manner of crops are grown, furniture and homes built - all beneath a magical wall that keeps humans and unsavory sea creatures out of the city. XX
Our story begins with one particular Nareii community, right off the coast of a rural ocean village in Japan. This tribe is known among Nareii as the Kaiyō Senshi. Their ancestors were warriors who battled against other tribes, but now they are a peaceful people, with few remaining members to speak of. XX
The Prince of the Kaiyō Senshi tribe has always been the curious type, and one day, he decides to whisk away his boredom by visiting the surface world. There he finds that the surface isn't too different from his own home. He also finds that surface-world men are hot - or at least his new friend is. XX

Of one thing Raze could be certain -- the old Earth was much more intriguing than the current had proved to be. Perhaps because this old Earth had been told to have caused its own demise, that it was so tempting to indulge oneself in, to investigate, and to remember. There were many reasons to like "Old Earth", as Raze called it. Some of the inventions, whose use are no longer known, were likely much beyond normal human understand nowadays. Small instruments called "Kazoos" made such a strange noise by simply blowing into them, much like a flute or clarinet. There were also the cars, which, although the had long ago stopped functioning, littered every city in abundance, suggesting that just about everybody had used one to transport themselves one place or another. However, of all the wonderful and exciting things about that Old Earth he could think of, only one seemed to interest him a great deal more than all the others -- Culture.

The culture of Old Earth was vastly different than the culture he found himself in nowadays. Clothing was different, food was different, production was different. And, of course, so was music. Though they weren't easy to come by, it was possible to find and secure an old CD or MP3 player to listen to, filled with all the music its previous owner might have installed on it. With a working portable computer and a CD and right cord, it was even possible to download songs onto them that weren't there before. Old Earth sure was advanced.

And that was exactly what Raze had done. He had found an MP3 player, located a CD, and was able to borrow someone's PC for the sole purpose of downloading music from the CD onto his own player. The song he was currently listening to was "Get Low" by Lil' Jon. He wasn't entirely sure what these lyrics meant, however. On the surface, this song may have seemed to have dirty lyrics, but what if you looked inside? What if, say, "Get low" actually meant something deeper than what met the eye? It was very possible this song had hidden meaning, that it was beautiful.

Even I can't pretend like that's the case!

Well, there was good and bad things. Raze switched his MP3 to some other song as he walked up the beach he had been heading to. A tall tale spoke of how a man had once seen a woman appear from the water, only she had the upper half of a woman, and the bottom half was that of a fish. How absurd was that? Of course, nobody believed him and neither did Raze, but he figured he might as well come investigate. At least, currently, he had nothing better to do. Besides, it was nice to take a break and relax every once in a while. This beach was pretty quiet, from what he had heard and it was not as easy to get into as he would have liked, but the view was worth it. The sun was shining, the birds were singing... it seemed like a nice day to take a nap.

[s]*HUMMING INTENSIFIES*[/s]

...until he realized he wasn't alone. He wasn't sure if she had been there since before him, or after, though it didn't really matter, did it? Why was a girl dressed like her all the way out here?... Well maybe considering he was wearing this uniform, he shouldn't be asking that. Still... it was odd, just a bit. Did she hike all the way out here, maybe? She must be really optimistic, or she must know something great secret spot out here.

Or... she was just picking up shells. Disappointing, unless they some form of "super" shells? Unlikely. How upsetting. Well, if she was here and not panicking, then that was probably a good indicator that whatever being the stories mentioned weren't true. He would have preferred to look around a bit more before having this shoved in his face, but nothing to be done about it now.

Meh, why not screw around.

"Hey, you! You haven't happened to see anything out of the ordinary around here, right? Something a fisherman might tell their buddies at a bar just to spook them or impress them? That kind of thing? Cus if not... well, this hike sucks, ah ha." From his point of view, all he could see was her back, and at a distance too.

Seems like too nice a dress to be wearing all the way out here.

Whether or not he got there first was still debateable, but judging by her reaction to his words, he was certain that he was the first to notice the other. He hadn't meant to frighten her, though. Oh well, such is the way of life. It did not seem to traumatize her, as she immediately regained her composure and answered his question with a question of her own. He figured that was some sort of inside joke to herself or something, though.

"Mizune, huh?" Raze reached into his pocket briefly and turned the MP3 that was still on to OFF. He had had the volume low enough to hear what was around him, but now that he was talking to someone, he thought it would be rude to keep it on. Besides, that song came up again. "Well, my name's Raze. I was looking for something interesting around here, something about people who are fish or something. Anything that weird?" he gave a laugh as if to suggest the idea was crazy to begin with, which is what he thought in the first place.

Having listened to her basically repeat what he was told earlier, he sighed in mild disappointment. He had hoped he would be wrong, but if all there was was rumors, then what could be done. "Yeah, that's what I heard. Fishpeople - err, well, mermaids, that is - have been spotted somewhere around here. It's obviously a tall tale, but I figured I would check nonetheless." he explained. Of course, he hadn't any way of knowing just what she was, and he was quite dense in certain regards to begin with. Unless she couldn't help but cackle, he probably wouldn't ever know if she was lying or not.

But while he couldn't tell she was fibbing, he did notice she was smiling a bit brighter. And now that his initial business was concluded, he couldn't help but finally realize that she was actually a fairly beautiful young woman. She gave off the air of nobility, almost. Maybe her dad was rich or something? Well, it wasn't as if that was bad or anything. This Mizune acted very polite in contrast to Raze himself, who was simply a frank individual. He almost felt like he was insulting her now that he thought about how he replied. Oh well. "So," he began, finally asking the most obvious question someone would ask after seeing her way out here. "What are you doing out here? Shell collecting? Have you found some sort of goldmine, possibly?"

These are some pretty, uh, interesting shells...

Of course he wasn't as interested in the actual seashells as he was just about everything else, and didn't bother to hide that either. He immediately recognized the jewelry that she suddenly began pulling out. Jewelry was more common back where he lived with his foster father, likely because there had once stood a jewelry store around there. He even recognized a small inscribing on a ring that she had shown him. It said "Jare 's", though he wasn't quite sure what the missing letter was. That same could be found back at his home, but anything else he had seen was worn out and never had that single letter.

Maybe that was the brand name?

He sat down in front of the pile and crossed his legs. "Thank you. I hope you don't mind me borrowing this for a minute, then." he said, grabbing the ring, though being very careful as he did so. He did not want to upset Mizune. "Hmm...." he looked at it for a moment, putting his finger and thumb to his chin as he inspected it, as if he were some kind of detective. Pictures of rings he had seen had told him that they looked differently now than they did back then, perhaps due to the stains of time and being worn down after being drowned. Still, as far as he was concerned, it didn't look horrible. "This doesn't look as bad as it could. That's a pretty lucky find, considering." he stated, placing the ring back in the pile it had come from. He looked over the assorted pile and smiled. "You aren't half-bad at finding relics of the past, you know?" he complimented, then adding, "Oh, and seashells too."

He continued to inspect items as carefully as he could. Though he didn't find anything he hadn't seen before, that didn't mean it wasn't nice to see some of this. All the different kinds of things you could find on a beach alone was impressive. Raze was holding currently holding a marble when Mizune spoke up. "What would I say? I'm not entirely sure. I'd probably want to see one for myself before believing that, though." he shrugged, assuming she was just asking a hypothetical question for the sake of it. "It's much more likely someone would have seen a shark with half a person in its mouth and mistaken it for a mermaid than for them to really exist though, right? Aahaha!"

Completely. Oblivious.

"I was actually planning on maybe trying to find evidence of these fishpeople again tomorrow, so certainly." Raze answered. He hadn't realized just how late it was getting and if he wanted to climb the rocks he had used to get here without difficulty, then he should probably be heading off himself too. Though it wasn't the most productive day, he didn't quite mind that. It wasn't as if he was against sitting down and talking. And it was not like this was a job or something, so there was no hurry. He was a free spirit, after all.

He watched as Mizune bowed to him, feeling a bit awkward as she did so. He was born in a very rural area where people were very frank and these kinds of gestures weren't common. She really did seem like she was born to a much higher class than him. "A-ah, well... thank you. You're not boring to hang around either, I guess." he wasn't sure how to word what he meant in this regard, so he simply went with what he said, giving a somewhat embarrassed smile. "Well, until tomorrow, then." he waved her goodbye as she departed before turning around and giving the area one final look.

Nope, no mermaids here.

.

It took about an hour or so, but he finally got back to civilization. A small fishing village sat nearby and it was the same one he had heard the rumors from, so of course he would head back to talk to the men who had told him about it. They commonly hung out around the remains of an older bar that was refashioned into... a new bar. The thing about this place that had originally attracted Raze's interest, however, was that it was somewhat like a museum as well, having things from the past on display around. The bar had a musket, which sat perched on a shelf behind the counter. There were a few bison skulls and a saddle as well. He learned that before the flooding had occurred, this was called a "country bar". Though how one could fit an entire country in here was beyond him.

"Liar." was the first thing to come out of Raze's mouth when he saw the man.

The man, Danny, knew exactly what had happened. "So you went all the way out there, eh? Sure as shit, I saw it the other day. You musta not been lookin' very hard, I tell ya." he replied. Danny had a medium height and a big gut, and was missing a few teeth from a fight he got into "quite some time ago", as he had mentioned. One of many. But even then, the man didn't seem like a mean person, though these kinds of tall tales apparently came from Danny all the time. Honestly, Raze had just followed the rumor as a means of entertaining himself.

"Really? Because the only girl I saw had two and both belonged to a human."

"A gal all the way out there? And nothin' strange about her?" he asked.

"Nothing at all."

"Hrm... maybe the sun was in yer eyes? Probably it, I say."

Realizing that this conversation was going to get nowhere, Raze sighed. "So what other tall tales have you got for me?" he might as well see if he could check out anything else tomorrow, besides the mermaids. Unfortunately, Danny had no tales to speak of that were able to be investigated. Some he mentioned were of things that happen in a specific month, while others only happened on a full moon.

Hmm, maybe I'd best just stick to mermaids, then?

Raze's morning consisted of him waking up in the inn he paid for, taking a quick shower, and then heading over to Danny's house, as he had been invited to eat breakfast. He was told there would be strawberry pancakes.

As far as how things went, well, Raze enjoyed the breakfast while talking to Danny. He jokingly brought up the mermaid story a few times, and then they spoke about other things. Apparently, Danny had been a fisher his entire life (he was somewhere in his late 40's at least), but had to retire when an incident on a boat led to an injury in his hip.

"Good luck to ya, friend."

When they had finished eating and speaking, Raze bid Danny farewell. He promised to let Danny know if anything happened that was worthwhile. He was also lucky enough to snag lunch, in the form of a few tuna sandwiches. Finally, Raze had departed for the beach where he met Mizune yesterday. Hopefully, they would end up seeing a mermaid this time, unlikely as that was. Plus, she said she had books that weren't destroyed, which also interested him. It was possible that some book could bring insight on certain memes that had become forgotten over the years. Though he wasn't the biggest bookworm, well, he wouldn't mind learning a thing or two.

Raze had walked a good hour or so before reaching the beach. Having stocked up on some water and even a few sandwiches, he was ready for what they day had in store."I descend!" Raze declared as he gave a hearty laugh and quickly climbed down the rock wall. He could both see and hear Mizune now that he didn't have an MP3 in his ear to distract him as much. Luckily, he hadn't come too early, as he really didn't care much for waiting if it was avoidable. From the looks of it, she had been here for at least a little while. "Kept you waiting, huh?"

Code: Select all

Raze seemed a bit relieved. "That's good, then." his eyes followed Mizune as she relocated to a pile of books, presumably the ones she mentioned bringing over yesterday as she had left. "Even if the stories aren't true, they still should be fun." he smiled as he commented, taking notice of the book she had opened. He soon joined her side and read along with her, laughing at what she said about mermaids.

"If what these books said was true, then would I have ever heard about this story from a man who had supposedly seen one?" he didn't seem to believe that one bit, if only because Danny wouldn't have forgotten to mention singing or terrifying looks if that were the case. "Or maybe he just got lucky? They weren't hungry at the time?" he mused jokingly. Well, the books didn't specifically say anything other than that the men were led to their deaths, so they could be doing it for fun or another reason besides eating. Raze thought about if this was the case and could only assume they might have been territorial, if they didn't eat their victims. Well, these were all just legends and fables, so it wasn't like he actually had to think very hard on the matter.

After some time reading, Raze looked over to Mizune as she brought up how lacking the books seemed to be. Mizune had seemed very entertained while she was reading these books, and Raze couldn't help but notice her smile widen every so often, particularly when reading something about the mermaids. He was almost jealous at how much fun she seemed to be having. However, he himself was not bored in the least. "You're really enjoying these books, aren't you?" he commented with a laugh. "You know, I remember seeing a case of a video that was apparently about a mermaid princess who wanted to visit the surface." he began, oblivious to how scarily true that actually was in her situation. "Maybe merpeople live under a monarchy or something? I wonder if they have little crab friends, too?"

He shook his head immediately, dismissing the thought. What he was thinking of was likely just another fabrication for entertainment. "Well, that would be something." Raze took a moment to stand up and stretch. He wasn't used to sitting for long periods of time. As he finished, he looked down to Mizune. "Are you hungry, by chance? I have a few tuna sandwiches I brought along." He offered, reaching to his side and retrieving a small pouch that had carried them. He had been making sure he didn't crush them since he had left, so he hoped they would be in perfect shape, still.

"Ahaha, well, that would actually be the guy who told me about the mermaids, Danny. He invited me over for breakfast, as well as sending me along with these sandwiches too." he admitted, scratching the back of his head. "Though you are right. These are pretty good." Raze took a bite out of one as he said so. He would have to compliment Danny next time he saw the man.

"Oh, I've actually read part of this one." his eyes almost lit up when he saw the next book. Unfortunately, the only copy he had was partially destroyed, so he only ever got a quarter of the way through. It seemed pretty interesting, however, and when they had finished reading about it, he could say that it was indeed a great story. Mizune seemed to have her own opinion on the book that made him think she'd fancied this book a great deal.

As though on cue, something in Raze's head began to click. "So... you sure happen to know a lot about mermaids. Are you sure you haven't seen anything?" he asked accusingly in a joking manner.

Raze pondered the question in his head for a few moments. It wasn't one he could answer with absolute certainty, so he just said what he felt might be the case. "It truly depends on the person. Someone could be thinking of capturing the mermaid, while another might want to eat it. Your guess is just as good as mine when it comes to these things." he told her, shrugging his shoulders. Honestly, if he had actually come upon a mermaid, he didn't even know what he himself would do in that situation.

Mizune seemed a bit down afterwards, at least compared to her brighter, energetic self of earlier. However, he was a bit dense and couldn't relate her mood to anything. He did not like seeing her like this, but soon enough, she seemed to cheer up as they talked more and more about different things. Raze ended up laughing and smiling along with her. He could definitely say he was having fun. But, unfortunately, time seemed to fly when you were enjoying yourself. It had started getting later in the day, much to Raze's dismay. He hadn't had so much fun with another person in a while.

He took the book he was handed with a confused look on his face. "Ah, is that so? Well, there was no need to thank me." though she didn't look like she was going to let him decline. "I enjoyed myself as well. See you later, then." he waved as she left. He didn't find a mermaid, but he did find a friend. Well, he could ride Danny's ass for lying to him for fun, now. With this as his new objective for the day, Raze began to head back.

Perhaps he... really should've thought more about things before he did them. You see, Raze was a very competitive person at heart. If he was bet he couldn't do something, then he would show someone that they were wrong, and he always strived to win things when he could. He was very sportsmanlike, sure, but he loved winning as well. That is why, when Danny bet him he couldn't outdrink his cousin, Raze made the mistake of saying "I'll bet you I can!" with the intent of doing just that. Raze was a healthy human being who  had never really drank before this time. Maybe once or twice, just to try it, but he always had a child's taste buds and didn't care much for it. So... well, it wasn't hard to guess how the contest went.

Raze awoke with a small headache. This was apparently known as a hangover, and he had nothing to show for this. He realized he was prone to making rash decisions when provoked, and figured he should remedy this in the future by putting thought into his actions. But it was too late to do anything now. At the very least, he had drank a lot of water before falling asleep, so it was nowhere near as bad as it could have been. He probably wouldn't be doing that anytime soon, though. "Hmm.... uh.... ?" something felt very wrong. It was noticeably brighter than it should have been. What time was it---

"Oh, shit...!" if he was intending to meet Mizune again, then he was already late. He should probably hurry. He wouldn't want her to feel like he intentionally ditched her or anything. Raze ate a quick breakfast that the inn provided and hurried outside. It was there that he noticed a lot of people heading off towards the docks. He ended up being swept up by a crowd and almost dragged there himself. What was everyone so interested in? He would just make sure it wasn't anything crazy and then meet Mizune, hopefully she would understand if she was even still there.

Oh hey, there she is now. Good, now I don't have to expl----wait, what?

A fishing boat had docked and was now unloading its passengers, with Mizune herself being part of the crew. She appeared to be restrained and it was obvious she wasn't enjoying herself. What had these men done?! Pushing his way through the crowd, he arrived at the front of the townspeople, who were all just as confused as he was. Of course, he couldn't see why they would be restraining a kind girl like Mizune, so Raze alone was also a bit pissed. "Hey!" he stepped out in front of the group, addressing the people. "What is the meaning of this? Why is she restrained?" he demanded to know. It wasn't just him who wanted to know, but also the people who had gathered around.

Luckily for him, he was too worried about Mizune to remember he had a headache.

"The hell are you talking about! She's not a merma......" Raze had begun yelling back at the men, only to find himself speechless as Mizune's legs seemed to have disappeared in favor of a tail. He wasn't really capable of instantly processing what had happened, silently staring at her as everything seemed to slow down. He had spoken to her for the past two days and she did not have a tail. She was a normal human being back then, wasn't she? Hell, they were even talking about mermaids as if they were a myth! Maybe.... he should have noticed it back then.

Raze's expression differed from the majority of the crowd's. Most people were terrified at the sight, perhaps believing the stories that they lured people to their deaths. But Raze's face was uncharacteristically lacking any real emotion, likely due to the mixture of feeling betrayed and confused. He really thought that they were becoming friends, too.

He felt an arm on his shoulder, snapping him away from his funk.

"She ain't look like no terrifying beast o' the seas, I think." Danny stated, his eyes on the trembling Mizune, who had tried to stand on her own but failed miserably. It wasn't a pretty sight. "Ya said you met a girl when you went looking for myths, did ya not?" Danny looked down at Raze. "I don't see no myths. I see a frightened girl."

"....You're absolutely right."

Raze shook his head. What was he thinking? Just because she may have a tail, that doesn't mean she's any less human than he was. Just from the two days he'd known her, he saw she loved reading books, collecting random things, and humming. There was no reason to catch her and scare her to death, like these fisherman had done. "Thanks, Danny. But now I can't say I told you so." Raze smirked at the man, before taking off towards the group of Mizune's captors.

He had an objective, but... well, he really didn't have a plan. He realized that these men wouldn't let go of Mizune just because he asked, and... he was an explorer, not a fighter. But Mizune was nice and he didn't believe she deserved whatever kind of treatment she was going to get in their hands, be it locked up or worse. Mizune was... his friend. And he didn't let people fuck with his friends.

"You can stop this right now! What do you intend on doing? Eating her? We all see what you've caught, now let her go!" The guys being between Raze and her did not really give him the chance to just grab her and run, so he would just have to stall or hope that something good could happen here. If he had to take a few punches or a beatdown to help a new friend, then so be it. He would have no regrets. [s]#yolo[/s]

Yeah, I said something, now I just gotta... er...

Well, there was a reason he was called "Raze". Ruining the mood of a wedding because he ran in, exclaiming how happy he was he found an old speaker system wasn't the most sensitive thing to do. He did tend to do things without thinking them through which often led to destructive outcomes, this seemed to be no different. He stared down the bigger, obviously stronger fisherman and continued.

"All I see is---"

*Flash*

Nothing! I can't see anything!

Unfortunately, this blinding light resulted in a little friendly fire. Raze was incapable of seeing anything, rubbing his eyes with one hand and finding himself tugged away by his other. He was confused at first, but the hand felt small and gentle enough to for him to say that it was probably Mizune. Well, unless the fisherman had very girly hands, that is. It took him a bit to recover his sight, but by the time he did, they weren't near the crowd or fishermen any longer.

By the time he could get Mizune to stop running, they had ended up in a the cove. He was grateful for the fact that he was in decent shape before he fell to the ground, on his back. This woman must have some serious stamina to do that so casually! Like his friend, Raze took a moment to regain his breath before he finally spoke up. "I think I should be thanking you for helping me help you, you know." he gave a tired laugh. "I should apologize for hesitating, honestly."

Would he have still gone to her aid if it weren't for Danny snapping him out of that confusion? Now that he thought about it.... yeah, he probably would have. It just would've taken longer. Still, he was very grateful to Danny for helping him. One day, he might repay the favor.

"Honestly, you're probably right." Raze agreed, nodding his head as he looked out towards the ocean. "If you had never come up here, then you wouldn't have gotten caught by those fishermen, and I wouldn't have had to argue with them. The village would've never caught a glimpse of a mermaid and everything would be proceeding as usual." he turned down to look at Mizune. "And, of course, I would've probably never come back to this place after my first day. I wouldn't know who you are, and I wouldn't be sitting her, speaking with you right now." he smiled. "But an explorer should never dwell on "what if", I think. I'm thankful you did, anyways."

"Good, good!"Raze was genuinely pleased she had brightened up, if only a little bit. He wasn't the kind of guy who enjoyed when people were upset or otherwise unhappy. He did not benefit from stuff like that. "Well, perhaps---" Raze never finished that line. Instead, he found himself being pulled up by someone that had snuck in behind him. Much like how he had missed Mizune the first time they had met, he was too busy to actually pay attention to his surroundings. He should probably work on that.

"Ah....well, I agree I'm not the smartest man...ahaha." Raze thought long and hard using his detective-like deduction abilities to discern that the guy grabbing him was probably not the happiest, most pleasant man around. Or... it was his common sense. Either way, Raze didn't think it would be very bright to upset the man who, by the looks of it, was Mizune's father, any further than he'd already done by being an "idiot human". The young human felt a bit relieved that Mizune had come to his help, partially lying to save Raze's skin. He hadn't really done anything productive, he thought. The real credit to surviving that situation was solely meant for her and whatever that trick was she did that partially blinded him and everyone else. Maybe he could learn it? Well, that wasn't too important right now.

"Y-you're giving me too much credit, you know...?Ha..."

Landing on his rear as Mizune's father let go of him and abruptly, non-verbally told him to die, Raze scratched the back of his head as they began to leave into the ocean, a bit confused as to what had really just happened. He felt too exhausted to wave back, but watched Mizune until she had disappeared into the sea.

He honestly felt like he was that delinquent who fooled around with someone's daughter, only barely getting off because his charms were enough to swoon said daughter into convincing the scary dad not to murder him. Actually, that was exactly what just happened. Except mermaids.

Ah... she's actually a mermaid... and they were too.... what is even going on anymore?

Raze sat and pondered life for a few minutes before deciding to sneak back into town to get his belongings. The man who befriended a mermaid was unlikely to be let back into that town, at least not without consequence from those fishermen. And so, he ended up camping out just a bit away from the spot where he met Mizune, in a tent he had for just such an occasion where he wasn't able to sleep in a hotel or the sort.

Boy, he never expected to actually meet a mermaid, though. Let alone receive glares from a mermaid's parents. Life was certainly funny, sometimes.

But what Mizune wouldn't know. No, rather, what she "couldn't" know, was that he had never left the beach since she had left. In fact, he was standing in the very same spot he was in when she was retrieved by her parents. He wore a very empty expression as she approached, and didn't seem to be moving from his spot. There were scratches and bruises along his arms and a moderate cut on his leg, with a very poor bandage across it. Aside from the obvious noise of the ocean behind her, Mizune wouldn't hear anything as the are was very quiet despite this. One could even say it was devoid of life. That is, until "it" started playing.

Suddenly, music starting playing from a pair of portable speakers he had owned that were connected to his MP3, and Raze sprung into action, taking various poses along with the rhythm of the song. He hadn't seemed to notice the girl just yet, having not his lesson from the last two times, so he continued dancing. Each pose he took was very exaggerated and rather amusing to watch and he had the most determined look on his face. Anybody looking at just his face at this moment might have truly believed he was fighting for what he truly believed in, that he couldn't afford to lose this battle, and that assumption was entirely correct. For you see, this was a challenge plaguing him the last two days that he must overcome, and he would never quit until he did just that. However, as the song began to reach its climax, he started to faulter, eventually ending with his leg giving out as he did a flamboyant roundhouse. Immediately, he reached down to his injured leg and cried out in irritated pain. It was likely unwise to be moving about too much on it, but it seemed he was being rather stubborn.

"Ugh, it's always this second damned jumpkick!" he complained. It was then that he looked up to notice that an upset-looking Mizune had appeared. "Oh, you were watching that...." Raze wasn't quite sure how to respond. He did not seem particularly embarrassed, but realized this wasn't the most normal thing to walk in on. "Look, I can explain..."

Raze had hoped he used that saying correctly, but as he'd only seen it in books, he could have been wrong. Oh well. "Y-yeah, it sure is dancing." he tried to play it cool, but was not very good at hiding how confusing it was that she was impressed rather than distressed, even if it was a blessing. "I'm mainly just learning it from a video I have and am still practicing myself. I guess if you want to practice with me, that is acceptable." Maybe it would be easier with a partner to help him with the fighting scenes he was doing by himself. Although those ones were the hardest, besides that last jumpkick he had to do.

"H-heal...?" he was not sure what she meant by that. Was she insulting his excellent patchjob!? Well, it hurt when he put pressure on it so he didn't really do as well as he could've, but that was a little harsh, wasn't it? Wait, a spell? Fish can use magic!? He raised an eyebrow in suspicion, both because she had claimed to be capable of spells, and also because she was oddly ecstatic the moment she saw his injury. That didn't give him the most pleasant vibes. Good thing he was secretly a hard M shh. "Ah.... uh, I mean you can go ahead and try if you think it'll work..." He thought that maybe, just maybe, that she was actually talking about medicine or something. Plus, he wasn't capable of declining such a request. Her smile was pretty bright and nice to see. Also it was getting very, very close and if she got any close there could be problems.

Doesn't she realize he's a guy? That's not kind. Well, if he thought about all those guys dancing, nothing could faze him. That's right! Dancing needed to be on his mind, nothing else! If he let those poses beat him, even with a hurt leg, he wouldn't ever forgive himself.

He was certainly very skeptical of magic up until this point, but sure enough, he looked down to find his leg in tip-top shape, the only evidence of the injury being the small tear in his pants where it had once been. "Woah...!" Raze definitely found himself entertained and impressed by such a display.

"That's really handy. Thank you, Mizune!" he smiled as he thanked her, patting his leg. Now he wouldn't have to worry about pain in his leg for a while. As an adventurer, this truly was a blessing. He often found himself climbing, crawling, or walking for extended periods of time and that would complicate things.

To be honest, there was not a whole bunch of things to do around here, at least that he saw on the map, aside from the beach. There was a forest, but he wasn't sure how safe it was, or if people frequented it. He was about to mention it when he noticed that Mizune had already spotted the trail and, as if on cue, she happily stated that she wanted to try it out. Raze was never intending to visit it, as forests did not seem very likely to hold any artifacts of the past, but he didn't necessarily mind it either. Especially since he had someone to walk with, that was always nice.

"Hey! Calm down a bit, I'm an injured ma--...err, well, I guess I'm not anymore." Raze stopped himself mid sentence as he was pulled to his feet by his hand. He was still getting used to the fact that it just kinda disappeared, but nevertheless followed the girl as they set off onto the trail.

.......

....

...

.

A problem had soon become very apparent to the young man after spending some time informing Mizune of whatever flower or plant she had retrieved (or some of them, he wasn't that good with plants and only knew ones that would be fairly obvious to anyone who lived on the surface). Why were they still holding hands? At first, he didn't mind in the least. Honestly, unless a girl was up in his face or otherwise exposing herself, Raze's male blood didn't threaten to boil or anything. Yet, from the moment he noticed, he began to slowly feel less and less calm about the action as time went on. Eventually, he started to show visible signs of his state; he had begun to sweat just a tad bit, his cheeks were slightly flushed, and well....

"Oh... uh... err, well that is a... sunflower--- I mean, I think it's called a dandelion or something..." Raze managed to get out. He had clearly begun to overthink things as he had begun to get more and more nervous, which wasn't like him at all. He definitely thought about removing the problem - that is, stopping the hand-holding, but then he thought about what if it upset her or made him seem angry or something?

Maybe that was her species way of... something important...! And to suddenly break it off would cause a barrier between us as friends! Or what if she needed to hold hands to survive away from water for long periods of time! Or what if he breaking the hand-holding off meant we would have to get married in some bizarre twist or thats maybe howshehaskidsorevenwhatifshediedorororororororororor!!!!

Luckily, Raze never claimed to have been very good with anything but exploring.

It had seemed he was overreacting for nothing, as Mizune had released his hand with a smile and continued ahead of him, leading the way. His hand began to feel a bit cold and lonely now, however.

Following right behind the girl as she hummed, Raze took a quick look around the area. It had begun to brighten up a little, making it both easier to see and less horror story-like. Now, he could see the beauty of nature in all its glory, though he could only admire this so much. A forest was not something he hadn't witnessed before, so he wasn't surprised nor excited very much by it - he could only appreciate it.

As they entered what he would describe as a natural garden, Raze stopped. His reaction to the flowers was much the same as the rest of the forest. He seemed more interested in just how much fun Mizune seemed to be having, rather than the field itself, so he remained standing and watching her act much like a hyper energetic child, smirking as he did so. Honestly, he was known to act very similar, although his passion came from discovering something "new" from the olden times, so he couldn't blame the girl. If anything, it was cute.

"Are you having fun?" Raze asked her as he accepted the crown, donning it without shame.

Unfortunately, Raze wasn't capable of matching the energetic Mizune in a contest of pure excitement, nor could he provide too many people he would honestly consider a friend, due to his nature of drifting away from one place after just a little while in the past year or so. He simply shrugged during some things she asked before answering with his best guess or a concrete answer, though he had to hesitate when she asked him about where babies came from, as well... that was a bit awkward to answer in general. Still, she seemed to be having the most fun a girl could have in this situation, so he didn't mind it at all. There was a small moment where Mizune had appeared to be looking for something, but after a quick check, she returned to normal. Yes, everything was perfectly fine. After all, who would chase them all the way out here?

Continuing their talk, Raze relieved just a small bit about himself to her. "Well, ever since I left my home a year ago, I really haven't made any serious friends. I prefer to stay a day or three then move on to the next place, unless something special catches my fancy. I think that you might take the cake in terms of people I've befriended over the past year, that's for sure." he smiled and gave a playful wink before adding, "Actually, cake sounds kinda good right now, not gunna lie."

"So, I hope..." Raze had been looking the direction that the fishermen appeared from, so he simply let the sentence die out while he attempted to figure out what was going on? Did people REALLY follow them all the way out here? That was not good at all. They probably weren't looking for a friendly conversation, if that was the case. The young man looked down towards his mermaid companion, only to find she had already gotten up and darted behind him. She saved him some trouble in doing so, and with her behind him they had to make their move at him first, which, while probably painful, would at least mean he could delay them long enough, if their intentions were purely hostile (which is exactly what he was assuming they would be). These men, these horrible fishermen... he wouldn't let them do anything to harm this nice girl he had met and had fun with!

That being said.... he was in the same position he was last time he had to deal with them, and well... the same trick probably would not work twice. It didn't help that there were more now than there were before. It was blatantly clear that if a fight broke out, Raze would certainly not leave it without a copious amount of beating being handed to him. Still, he was determined to show he wouldn't back down when a friend was in need, especially when she had done nothing wrong!

"You're not here to look at the daisies, I assume?" Raze snapped towards the man who spoke, his expression twisted in precautionary anger at them. "You guys can just leave us alone, everything will be okay if you do." unfortunately, he wasn't the most intimidating figure with an oversized crown made of flowers around his neck. In fact, he looked a little bit silly.

And I really, really hate fighting, too...!

Raze didn't really need to be reminded that he was unintimidating with a flower crown sitting upon his head. He gave a quiet sigh, but the determination of a man willing to protect his friend was still very clear in his eyes.

"That's true and all... but what happens to you after we follow them?" he was more worried about her being exploited or otherwise harmed than himself. And there was no reason she should be put through any difficulties just because she was part fish! He had seen how nice and kind of a person she was, how she had a bit of an explorer's spirit, just like himself. It had been quite some time since he had ever truly found a friend, so he wasn't about to let this one go without a fight. Or, well, the hot-blooded protagonist spirit within him wouldn't. But being inclined towards pacifism for the most part meant he wasn't about to single-handedly take out this entire group of fishermen, and he was well aware of that.

Raze looked to Mizune and gave her a nod. He was going to be stubborn and get his ass kicked before he let them take off with her. He looked at the man he figured was the leader, wearing now a cocky grin, as if he thought them unworthy of taking seriously. It should be noted that he simply wanted to piss these guys off as much as possible, because he was mentally preparing to eat quite a bit of dirty very soon. At least he wasn't blindly optimistic, otherwise his hopes would be crushed when reality came knocking.

"Kid? Well... if that's how you see me, then I think you'll blush pretty-pink when I kick your ass!" he taunted the group.

Pissing them off even more was only going to lead to a more severe beating, but.... well, screw them.

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Fear not, I have posted!

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Its no big deal, I've been preoccupied with All Pain, No Gain as well so it wasn't life-crushing to wait a little bit~

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Took me longer than usual because some new things came out and I was procrastinating and forgot it was my turn. Sorry about that, but if it makes you feel better, uh *INSERT SUBJECT HERE*.

Yeah I got nothing except a post for ya. :C

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Thanks for the heads up! And I can't really say I'm in the same boat, since I'm homeschooled and don't have much homework, but I do know what it's like to be overwhelmed by school at times.

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

School isn't fun, I think. I've been a bit busy with it and haven't posted, and that might not change today. Expect a post tomorrow at the very latest, however!

Just letting you know I'm alive. C:

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Maybe we could try that out later on in the story?

EDIT: Sorry I didn't post as quickly as I usually do, I had Writer's Block, and couldn't get anything out for a bit.

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Good, good! That was the idea.

But if that didn't happen, I would've probably written out an awkward fight between Raze and the fisherman than ended up in him getting extremely lucky. T

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I also thought it'd be nice if we could finally have Mizune protect herself and her friend~

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Oh old fisherman NPC whom has no last name, you truly are a bro.

Also Raze is in shounen protag mode. Whether or not this will payoff, I don't know.

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Copy that, I shall be awaiting your post with great excitement~

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

I can't think of anything I would want to have added. Sounds good enough to me~!

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

We'll go with that then~ Anything else you'd like to add to it before the situation is set into motion?

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

Sounds fine to me. :3

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

It looks like that might be the most interesting way to reveal her then. Sound good to you?

Re: Deep Beneath The Sea

He probably would not be happy to see people catching other people. And then when he realized she was not a normal people, he'd definitely be confused at first, maybe even in denial! XD
