Luxara is a relatively short girl that has an eternally youthful disposition. Her hair is in a way that covers the clock-like left eye and can make her seem almost innocent, friendly. Charismatic in a way, one could say. She's somewhat curvy and attractive, but is also slim and walks with a non-threatening gait. Everything about the girl gives off an air of a slightly airheaded girl. She dresses in modest, fluffy, almost gothic clothing that makes her look formal in most occasions. Lux's small frame and deceptive looks make her quite the demon, wouldn't you say?

Power: Time Stop | Lux can freeze time, for as long as she wants, and things physically touching her also are movable with her. She can touch someone when time is frozen to let them unfreeze as well. She can keep it up for as long as she wants, though overuse leads to damage and eventually, death as it uses up her own energy.
Power: Gaming | Lux is amazing at video games. Does she have great reflexes or is it just her ability to stop time? One will never know.
Power: Time Reversion | Luxara can touch an object and turn it back through time to revert it to a younger state. This is primarily used to remain youthful. It can heal injuries easily but it can't bring someone back to life or be used to restore her own lifespan.
Power: Sister Telepathy | She and Xia have a permanent mental connection with one another, and also always know where the other is at all times.

Luxara is a deceiver and a manipulator. She's great at playing the harmless and loyal role only to hide her true trickery within. She loves to act and excels in it, and playing mind games with others is something she enjoys doing as well. If she knows your motivations and your fears, she'll have you dancing to her tune, making you believe in false realities and lies. However, this doesn't make her all that bad as Lux is also a caretaker and a protector, looking after her citizens as if they were her own family, only putting Xia first. She rewards loyalty with affection and does her best to rule kindly over Nox Astra. She's cunning and intelligent and has a great mind for military strategies, and can easily adapt to different situations. But first and foremost, Lux's love of tricks and games rules her mentality.

{☛ ⒽⒾⓈⓉⓄⓇⓎ ☚}
Luxara was born in Praetoria, one of the strongest nations of the time, ruled by Uralaiya, the Chariot. Lux's own parents were chief retainers for Uralaiya and often lead the armies to victory. At a young age it was decided that Lux would fight too, so she trained as a child and joined in on the battlefield once she was old enough, bringing victory and success, slaughtering humans and demons alike. Ever since she was young, Lux loved the battlefield and she quickly rose up in the ranks. Her life only improved when little Xia was born. Unlike Lux, however, Xia was a timid, shy demon, and she lacked the ability to fight all that well at all. When Lux's parents eventually died on the battlefield - one protecting the other and the other committing suicide to follow - Lux decided that she would be Xia's protector at all costs. She also befriended the flighty princess, Urayama and often they'd play and train for war.

It all changed when Uralaiya ordered that Xia be trained and eventually brought on the battlefield as well. Lux, now promoted to the second in command of Praetora, tried to protest, saying that Xia wasn't suited for war and Uralaiya then changed tactics, deciding the girl was better used as a political tool - essentially a trophy wife to pacify and eventually assassinate the leader of another city with little to no effort, saving on soldiers and resources. This was when Lux knew that in order to protect Xia and keep her close, she'd have to rebel. So in the shadows, Lux gathered support and allies and eventually attacked the capital of Praetoria, Artaran, and launched a long civil war that eventually (with help from an insane demon, completely by accident), Lux gained dominance, naming the city Nox Astra and forcing young Urara to flee to sanctuary.

Once in charge, Luxara ruled, gathering more allies and brokering trade deals with the smaller villages that now were sovereign once again. With clever manipulation and puppetry Luxara maintained Nox Astra's strength, specializing in tech, water, and especially transportation. Nox Astra quickly rose and eventually became pitted against the sister city of White City, which had appeared at roughly the same time as Nox Astra. A tense truce ensued but both Joshua and Luxara knew it was only a matter of time until tensions reached a tipping point, especially as rumors of Styx to the far east circulated, an incredibly powerful nation that was gathering power and steadily advancing...

Lux sat in the Lunar Citadel, in the meeting room where she met with the other councilors. Of course, Luxara held veto power over anything they tried to pull, but they still might have useful ideas. The public supported the idea of human councilors having influence after all - Lux didn't want to appear to be a dictator or anything. She'd listen to the voices of the people and do her best to make the city work. Of course, listening in was Xia, and Lux was relaying all the information directly to her dutiful little sister. The ruler of Nox Astra had a wry little smile as she listened to a particular Councilor Bailey make a suggestion.

"I was suggesting, since we have enough food and water to more than sustain our population, that we do something to promote birth and increase the amount of people we have for the future." He said earnestly, looking down at his notes carefully.

"Be careful, Sis." Xia urged from inside Luxara's head. "I don't trust him, he seems like he has a hidden agenda." It was hard for the ruler not to chuckle at the Princess's warning. Of course Councilor Bailey had something in mind, didn't they all? That was why Lux was here after all - to make sure nothing went wrong during these discussions. "I'm aware, Xia, good work. There's no way I trust Bailey to act in the good of the city. He's a shrewd little mouse..."

"I suggest we institute a Childbirth Fund." Bailey said with a friendly smile on his little face. "This way, more and more women will feel pressed to have children, due to a bursary being awarded per child. This should allow for Nox Astra to have more growth in the future. Luxara, what do you think?"

Luxara smiled amicably, eyes twinkling in delight. All eyes were on her, trained on her, and she rather enjoyed the little shiver of power she got, secure in her position. No one would go against her, no one would dare. And, after all, Lux did a good job keeping her citizens happy. Unlike what one would think of when imagining a demon, Luxara's rather generous for those who fall into line. Nox Astra is known far and wide for having the most equality in terms of policies, the best literacy rate, and the lowest unemployment throughout the desert. She would take the city to great heights - after all, a happy human is a more productive one.

"No." Lux said in a sweet tone, licking her lips salaciously. "Bailey, while I earnestly believe you had only the best of intentions, I'm not quite sure you truly understood the implications of such a bill." With a little twirl of a finger to explain this horribly obvious concept, she began. "Women will be working less as a result, due to finding having children to be a more suitable way to earn money. As such, eventually, production will stall with half of the work force out of commission. Then, women will be slowly denied the right to work as companies and businesses refuse to hire temporary workers, meaning more women will spend as much of their time pregnant as possible to ensure a large chunk of money every nine months. Without the ability to gain employment, women will become dependent on a man to make her pregnant in order to secure a salary, and then the city will slowly degenerate to one in which men control women, with near uncontrollable growth that we will not have enough food to sustain, thus causing famine and a breaking of our treaty with the City of White." Luxara smiled with sugar at the stunned Councilor Bailey who was forced into silence.

"...You didn't have to go so hard on him, sis." Xia murmured balefully. Lux merely chuckled internally. While she was here, dealing with administration, Xia was doing waitress work at a nearby - "Ah! Oh no, I broke another plate!"

"Yeah, why do you insist on working? You're the Princess of Nox Astra, isn't that unnecessary?" Lux declared the meeting adjourned and the Councilors went to leave. Lux let out a little sigh once the room was empty, stretching her legs out, bemoaning the new pile of paperwork.

"Well, um, I thought if I was employed, I could understand the humans better and get along with them more! That's okay, right?"

Ah, Xia. She was far too kind, too wanting to mingle with the humans. She was lucky everyone seemed to love her - or were afraid of Lux's wrath should anything happen to her. Not that anything would. She'd never, ever - "Okay, sis, focus on your work instead of obssessing over protecting me. I'm fine, promise! The owner already forgave me!"

"...Just don't cause too much trouble. I'll see you at home later, okay? Don't go sneaking off to swim in the lake again!"

Lux stared at the paper in front of her, grimacing. Well, it was time to deal with hell, wasn't it?

Sometimes, Xia really hated how clumsy she was. She tuned out the sounds of her sister`s grunts and complaints about the endless pile of paperwork - she had to, after all, focus on her job! Dressed in a waitress maid outfit, Xia accidentally dropped yet another plate of food, shattering the plate and scattering its contents on the floor. Why was she so bad at this? Why couldn't she be tall and graceful like the other waitresses? It also made her sad that no matter how many mistakes she made, everyone would just pat her head and forgive her. "It's okay, Xianata." Old man Crawley said with a kind smile, patting her head at yet another accident. "It's enough that you're willing to come and help out, don't take it so hard."

It was like everyone looked down on her, wanting her to just stay as an idle princess that didn't do anything. Xia didn't want that at all, she wanted to be able to help and contribute to the success of Nox Astra however she could. These were the people that sided with her when Uralaiya tried to have her married off to Charon, after all, so she wanted to pay back her debt. But everyone just seemed to treat her like they would a helpless little child. Isn't it normal to get annoyed from that?

”I'll try harder next time, I swear!" Xia vowed, making a determined expression. ”I won't break another plate."

Carrying another tray of food, Xia stepped out into the diner, listening to people casually making breakfast orders and the like. Food was something everyone needed, and something everyone seemed to enjoy. By helping people get their food, Xia was indirectly helping the citizens of Nox Astra have the fuel they needed to go about their days. She was, after all the Princess of Nox Astra. It was her duty to tend to the people, wasn't it? So when she tripped and fell over her own feet, why was it that one of the customers reached and caught her, petting her head with a little smile on his face?

”I wish people would take me more seriously, sis."

She could hear Lux's chuckle from the her head, warm and kind. "You are their beloved princess, Nata. I mean, almost everyone thinks of you as the collective daughter of the city. They all love you, isn't that fine?"

Xia still wanted to be able to help, but she had to admit that it was nice to hear that she was loved.

What Urara saw in front of her in this desert oasis was definitely a dog, even if she called herself a fox. What was a fox, anyways? Urara didn't know, she didn't care, but she knew she wanted a friend. The dog girl said something about leaving if she wanted to live - but that was silly, Ura couldn't die! She wasn't like her mother, she'd never let herself die, ever! It was a funny challenge, definitely. She really wanted this girl as her friend!

"Ura wants you, so Ura's gonna have you." Urara said with cheer, taking rope from her bag and holding it in front of her. The ruler of New Praetora always kept it on her in case there was something interesting to catch, and what could possibly be more interesting than this dog girl? "We can play a lot of games!"

The red haired girl held the rope and tapped it - sending it flying at bullet speed towards the dog so that the ends would go around her, tying her up and entangling her for Urara to claim. Ura wanted a friend, and if the dog didn't want to cooperate, Urara would just force her to be a friend! She wouldn't just let it go, who lets their friends leave? That's just silly.

"Ura will be your master." The girl declared with triumph.

Of course, Lux still had one stop to make before heading home and relaxing with Xia. Once she was finished with that stupid paperwork, the monarch of Nox Astra walked up the elevator to a higher floor of the Lunar Citadel - the strategy room. It was late, and her intelligence team was supposed to have gone home to sleep, but there was still that one young man who insisted on sticking around, always working harder than the rest despite his youth. Lux took a quick glance at his nametag before smiling graciously at him, making the young man seem stunned and almost afraid, as if Lux had some intimidating aura about her or something. ”Hello, Cartwright." Luxara said in greeting. ”Any news on Styx's movements? Do you know when they'll make their advance?"

Cartwright muttered something and spin around in his chair, glancing at the notes and reports from Nox Astra's expansive spy network. He glanced back at his boss, still seeming shy and nervous despite being taller than her, regarding her with a bad attempt at professionalism. "Um, Agent Leona thinks it'll take Styx a month or so before being able to make a significant advance." Cartwright informed her. "The west side of the desert is nearly unified now, so we should be careful."

”Styx, huh?" Xia's voice poked in her mind, an always welcome resident. ”He killed our peace messenger a few weeks ago. Xara, I'm a little... anxious. Can we survive if Charon decides to attack?"

Lux had a grim frown on her face. Styx was immensely powerful; it'd likely take more than just the might of Nox Astra to hold against the storm. ”If White and Satsuki are on our side, we might have a chance. But I swear, I won't let him hurt you, Nata." Lux felt minor annoyance from Xia about always being protected, which, unfortunately, Lux related to in a way. Still, she didn't want Xia to have to strain herself for anything, she wanted her sister to live a happy, carefree life while she dealt with keeping Nox afloat.

”Make an order to increase funding on our long ranged plasma weaponry research." Lux commanded, glancing at the notes herself. As much as she didn't want to have to prepare for war, it was an eventuality that would happen. The woman stared at her clock eye through the reflection on the screen, wondering how many more uses she had before her own life span vanished into nothingness. If she had to die, she'd at least make it a world where Xia could find a safe place to stay.

”Xara, we could save a lot of money if you just let me-"

”Absolutely not. I won't make you hurt yourself making rain for us. We have the lake, water's of no concern." Perhaps unfortunately, Xianata had the power of rain. Lux wanted to keep that as carefully hidden as possible, knowing many people who would try to snatch her up upon finding out the truth. Xia's value was great as water was a scarcity in the desert. Nox Astra didn't need an even bigger reason to be attacked. Lux felt Xia's mental sigh and was glad her little sister didn't press the issue further.

”Also, keep an eye on White's movements." Lux said, turning her back at Cartwright. ”I'm sure he'll try to buy out an independent water company at first chance - we'll have to search and assimilate all of them in the area. We can't afford to let the treaty break."

With that, Lux returned to the elevator, wondering what food Xia had prepared for her back at home, then realized it was some sort of seafood dish as Xia unintentionally streamed it to her. The ruler of Nox Astra smiled to herself, excited.

Someone who was even more excited than Lux of Nox Astra was Urara of New Praetora. Her new friend kept fighting back, kept resisting, like a good game of tag. It made her blood boil - she really wanted to play. There was no one around, no adults to stop her from having fun, no boring people to try and drag her to meetings and do sign a lot of papers that she didn't understand - most of which from Nox Astra, some sort of treaty thing or other that honestly, Ura didn't even know what half of it meant. She was a terrible ruler, a disappointment compared to the strength her mother once had. It was impossible for her to live up to that. But... she could at least dominate her friend and play with the dog girl, couldn't she?

If food wouldn't work, Urara would have to go to more drastic measures. As the dog girl Reyna started eating, sharing some with the stuffed animal, it suddenly became clear. With unseeable speed, Urara launched herself - nabbing the stuffed animal and holding it up as a prize. "Well, if Rey-Rey doesn't want to be friends, then Ura will just make this toy her friend instead!" Her eyes gleamed, ready for the dog girl to strike.

Joshua stood gazing at length at the monitor before him. Displayed across the massive wall-sized device was a map of the Eastern Continent with a giant red blemish pulsating across the west. Styx. Joshua stared and thought all the while unbuttoning the soiled dress shirt he wore stained with Ronan’s blood. Great…just great. Nothing infuriated him more than seeing that angry red blotch spread across the land with such ease. That should be him. The fact that it was only accompanied by the arrogant blue glow of Faerun only added to his disquieting anxiety. He had waited long enough.

Joshua wadded up the soiled shirt and stuffed it down the silver column that was his disposal system. The device sealed up and a light blinked on as the shirt was incinerated, the ashes crushed and deposited elsewhere. Right about then Mouse finally had the nerve to appear. His hand glided over the Sofa as he walked in with the surefootedness of someone who had done such a motion countless times before. He stood a ways behind Joshua and waited for him to speak.

“Thank you for speaking to him for me. You did good. As a result I’ll allow you to visit him down there when I say you can. You seem to like him. Just know I can see and hear everything that goes on in this building. Especially in that room.” Joshua picked up the shirt he’d put out to change into and slipped it on, beginning to button it up. “Perhaps he’ll liven you up some.”

Joshua couldn’t help but notice the change Mouse had gone through with the loss of his eyes. For a while he’d decended into a catatonic state of shock, he stopped reacting to anything Joshua did to or with him. He didn’t speak and he made no efforts to learn how to get along without his eyes. Then, as if something switched back on he started to do things again, yet it felt somehow as if he were on autopilot. As if the real Mouse was hiding away. Something didn’t sit fair in Joshua’s heart. He had without a doubt succeeded in subduing Mouse completely yet it felt as if he were playing with a doll rather than a human. Joshua brushed the thought away as he fastened the last button. “Emperors don’t have regret.” He assured himself, under his breath.

“I have business to attend to Mouse, sort out dinner and find something for yourself.” He ordered as he switched the channel to a video call system. He had a lot to speak to Luxana about. Mouse gave a short bow and left the room.

It seemed that Luxana wasn’t at her office at that time of day, however he left her a short curt message. “Luxana, it is Joshua White of White City. I have much business to discuss with you concerning Styx and the state of our treaty of peace. Actions must be made based on the current events and I request a meeting with you and your council to discuss what we must do. I also have several business propositions of lesser importance. Contact me and we will make arrangements.”

Just as he ended the call a knock came at the door to his office. He glanced over, knowing who it would be. The door opened and a man in a maroon military uniform strode in.

“You asked to see me, Sir?”

“Yes, have a seat, General I’ll pour you a glass.” He gestured to the crystal bottle on his desk with a warm amber liquid inside it and poured a little bit of it into a shot glass for the General “We need to make motions and prepare for possible war. I am going to make as many efforts as I can to prevent it but training must double from now on and I’d like to start a recruitment regimen. I’ll need as many berserkers as you can afford trained up and given the packages I made 14 months ago. It should upgrade their rage state to a more suitable level and make them more compliant to orders. Triple production of arms and military vehicles and I’ll have rationing begin within the city to lower consumption rates in food and water. If things go south with Nox a famine and widespread thirst is highly possible in the future. I also want a special forces team on standby with our best undercover agent to execute my next order should I see fit need to execute it. Whatever happens, I need Nox. We need Nox.”

Luxara walked down the steps to the massive underground complex that resided under Nox Astra. Sure, on the surface, the city itself was smaller than White City and the enigmatic Faerun far to the west, but according to estimations, the subway system reached almost as far as Styx's own massive spread, stretching almost as far as Tigris Lake to the far south. The subway and rapid transit system was Nox Astra's pride and joy, already packed with people as they shuffled and out out of the many trains. This was Artemis Station, the central hub of the spiderweb like maze of the subways, where almost all the lines went to as they transported people two and from different districts of the city. Music played over the speakers, something happy and energetic that Nata had chosen early this morning to try and get people pepped up for the day. Of course, when in public, Lux kept her hair draped carefully over her clock eye, smiling with dissonant serenity as she paid her fare and stepped into the subway that took her to her home, at the eastern edge of the city that bordered Lake Xiana.

”Come home quick, Xara!" Xia said in a sing-song, clearly excited for Lux to try her cooking. The girl wasn't the best cook, but the owner of that diner seemed more than willing to offer her tips and tricks, as well as lessons in order to get better. It made Lux feel a little warm inside, that everyone was willing to be kind to her precious little sister. ”Don't take too long, or I'll eat it all!"

”Wait, no, no, don't! I'll get home as fast as I can, okay?"

What Lux didn't anticipate, however, was having a message forwarded to her from Cartwright, saying it was of high importance. Lux checked the message from the device she took from her pocket, inserting earphones so that no one else would hear it. Josh's succulent voice entered her ears again and Lux, naturally, relayed everything to Xia, keeping her in the loop. Talk about Styx, it seemed - that made Lux feel very relieved. She was very, very anxious that White might've chosen to try to annex Nox Astra in preparation for Styx's threat, and was glad he seemed willing to perform some kind of negotiation.

”Don't forget the business deals, Xara." Xia added sagely, sounding a little annoyed. ”He's definitely going to try to sneak it past you while you're focused on Styx,"

”I know. That's why I have you, to counter-act his abilities." Lux thought fondly, then focused on the business deal aspect. Was it about the water being sent to White City, or something else entirely? She was very aware of the man's habit of crushing small, independent businesses. There was this one person who was excavating rather close to her territory, the ruins of what used to be Praetora...

”Tapsis, that steel mill guy." Xia, helpful as ever. ”Or maybe Horloge Water Co, purified from cactus extract or something. They've been acting up as well. Do you want me to put in the order to buy them both?'

Lux said a no in her head, interested in seeing White's hand first. She'd have to message White back after enjoying Xia's seafood platter - something regarding Styx couldn't wait.

Urara was having fun taunting the dog girl with Mr. Mittens, which was apparently the name of the silly toy. Why was Rey-Rey so attached to such a thing, anyways? Ura didn't really understand, it was just a silly toy, after all! Didn't Rey-Rey want a living, breathing friend to play with? Wasn't that more fun? What adventures could you have with a toy - and for that matter, where the heck did Rey-Rey even find the toy? It looked like a relic of the old days, of human civilization years past. Urara shrugged, not all too concerned. She instead kept playing, keeping just out of the dog girl's reach with a tricky, crafty grin. This was fun! So much fun, Urara really liked it, she liked it lots!

It would be funner if Rey-Rey was having fun too, though. Urara always liked it better when her friends were having fun, and Rey-Rey was one of her friends now, wasn't she? "Ura wants Rey-Rey to have fun, too, though!" Urara complained after Rey-Rey finally agreed to be her friend. Urara gently and carefully tossed the toy back to Rey-Rey, this time going in for a friendly and playful hug. "What does Rey-Rey like to do for fun? I want to play a lot of fun things with you!"

Urara was hungry now, so she dug into her bag, finding two more chicken wings in a plastic container. She took one out, biting into it happily, then showed the other to Rey-Rey, grinning. "Sharing is caring. Does Rey-Rey want one?" There was still water, too, though Urara wasn't sure if Rey-Rey needed it, seeing as she lived in a secret water place hidden in the desert. "Rey-Rey can have some of my water, too!"

Joshua sighed. He’d taken the last few hours to for himself, enjoying a bit of the scotch he had on his desk and eyeing Mouse lewdly as he brought dinner out to him. Mouse could never see him doing this, obviously so Joshua felt no need at all to hold back, not that he would otherwise. His slimy gaze followed the boy’s groin and ass as he carefully placed a slab of seasoned pork on the desk in front of him wreathed in string beans and a dollop of fluffy white potato. The placement of each serving was perfect despite Mouse being completely blind. Mouse had taken great liberties in learning how to navigate without his sight. He could thread a needle perfectly if given the time. Mouse filled his glass of water and was about to go when Joshua wrung an arm around his waist pulling him back against his lap and making him spill a bunch of the water in his pitcher.

“Look at what you did. “Joshua growled grabbing at him roughly by the groin. He pressed his face against Mouse’s neck and inhaled, slowly. Mouse trembled slightly and moved to put the pitcher down but not a sound left his lips. He grimaced as the man’s hands went freely over him, clawing at the suit, now soaked in water. His heart drumming nothing but fear and panic in his chest.

Mouse didn’t get to clean the mess up until much later when Joshua got his fill. The man left him there, disheveled and pressing a towel against the carpet to soak up the water. His dress shirt was untucked, two of the buttons ripped off and his pants where draped over a chair and forgotten. Mouse waited until Joshua left the room, tugging his pants back up and muttering something about finding his good knife. Mouse trembled and curled up into a ball, burying his forehead against the cold damp carpet. He didn’t sob but his breath came in tremulous gasps as his head raced through feelings of despair. He couldn’t breathe. He clutched the carpet, wishing with all his heart that Ronan could be there to hold his hand again.

The sound of movement from a back room jolted Mouse back and his panic dissipated with worrying speed. He wanted to be done with it. Joshua would let him rest if he got the cleaning done, that’s how it was. Mouse busied himself and filled all his thoughts with a single goal. “Clean it…it’s a mess. Look what you did.” He muttered under his breath. “The carpet will get mold…”

Meanwhile Joshua was in a sort of high. He lit a cigarette and ruffled through the dressers in his room. There it is. The knife he had wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t a super multi-tool knife with 15 different unique functions or a terrifying skinner’s knife meant to flaying. It was a traditional survival knife with a curved blade and a perfectly honed point. Unlike some it didn’t come with a jagged spine. He took the knife and left for the express elevator to the lower levels. He was going to give Ronan a little visit.

Unlike his last visit Joshua entered without ceremony, his clothes where unkempt and he didn’t wear a tie or jacket. He merely unlocked the cage and descended on Ronan like a vulture injecting him in the neck with a sedative.

Ronan would awaken to find himself in a completely different room latched to a strange device that looked uncannily like x shaped cross used for torture in the medieval period. The primary difference was that instead of hanging completely by his arms and legs Ronan had small places to put his feet. They were still restrained to keep him from kicking using binding and small chains but once Ronan came to consciousness he would likely be forced to stand on his own strength. The room was still cold, as cold as the basement floor he came from and the metal device he was strapped to wouldn’t have helped in the slightest. His wrists where bound to either corner of the cross leaving him splayed like a starfish.

Joshua stood directly in front of him, slapping his face gently with his palm. “You awake? Up you get. This’ll be terribly boring if you sleep through it." The room they were in was small, cramped almost with each wall a pale awful sickly gray concrete and the floor eternally stained a rusty brown due to god knows what. The floor had a drain in it as well. Joshua turned his back to Ronan and examined his trays, most of which contained syringes full of unidentified liquids. Likely shots of adrenalin and the like. There were also scalpels and hooks and devices that wouldn’t look off on the set of an ER drama, but the one tool Joshua kept touching while he muttered and counted was a black steel knife. He picked it up and brought it to his face as if he were going to lick or bite it.

His gaze went to the bite wound already on Ronan’s shoulder, still raw red from the stitching. Joshua touched it gently and ran his finger along the seam. “I’m surprised it didn’t get infected. The human mouth has so much natural bacteria in it. Still time enough though, it hasn’t healed yet.”

Joshua had no preamble for his actions no long monologue explaining why or detailing why there isn’t a reason for Ronan’s situation. He simply dug his blade into Ronan’s abdomen right above the hip on his left side. He buried the tip of the blade in barely an inch, carefully carving a graceful arch up across his musculature to where the arch of his ribs was. It was astonishing how smooth and clinical the motion was and the wound itself barely cut all the way through the skin layer. He didn’t want to damage the muscle or organs beneath. He grinned. “Beautiful, like the arch on a Cello.” He smeared his hand across the oozing blood and attempted to pry the shallow wound open with his hand. “It’s amazing how adept the body is at keeping itself together. Don’t you see? The skin is attached to the muscle, I’d have to cut it away if I wanted to see what’s underneath. I won’t do that though. You’re not that kind of toy for me. That’s what I do to the ones who are already dying.”

For the next several hours Joshua turned Ronan into his piece of art. He cut this way and that, making smooth clear gashes across the skin being careful not to damage the tendon and muscle beneath. The only time he ever stopped was when a tone came from a speaker hidden somewhere in the room.

“Sir, there’s a call for you. Lux from Nox Astra.” The voice said in a bored tone that wouldn’t be out of place in an office building.

“Shit.” Joshua looked at his bloody hands. He couldn’t exactly answer like that. He grimaced and glanced up at Ronan. “You’re not going anywhere. Don’t move.”

Joshua moved with a swiftness down the basement halls. He tapped his earpiece with his pinky, hoping no blood smeared onto it. “Mouse. Get me a suit jacket and tie immediately and route that call to the General until I get there.”

He checked his shirt for blood smears and found only one on his side. How the hell did it get there?! The jacket will cover it. “I need to set up a secondary office down here so I don’t have to do all this shit.”

Urara was very pleased at the turn of events, though for some reason Rey-Rey didn't seem like she liked the hug, she struggled and tried to fight against it, but that was fine, Urara could teach her what love and friendship and happiness is. The dog girl must've been so lonely in the desert all by herself, with no one to talk to, so Ura decided that she would be the one to show Rey-Rey joy and companionship! That's what friends did, and that's what Urara wanted to do! When she decided on something, there's no way she'd ever regret it! "It's a hug, Rey-Rey!" Urara said. "It's what you do with someone you like!"

Urara considered doing something she rarely ever did. Her fun powers was definitely an option, and Rey-Rey didn't seem like she liked Ura yet. Was there something was with her? Wasn't she fun? When the dog girl asked how she knew her name, Urara felt like giggling. "You said earlier when I called you a dog that you were Reyna, remember?" Urara said with a happy smile, a bounce of her foot as she kicked against the sand. "You gave Ura your name, so that's why we're friends now!"

When Rey-Rey went to lap up water from the oasis, Urara suddenly had an idea. It might've been a silly idea, a weird idea, but she wanted to say it anyways. After all, she had a home, didn't she? And what if Rey-Rey was lonely here all by herself? Urara smiled at the drinking dog girl, keeping a respectful distance just in case she wasn't used to being a friend yet. "Rey-Rey, if you want, Ura has a place where you can eat and drink as much as you want. And we can go on adventures and explore the world together! There's this one city, White City, it's really big and full of rich people! Urara wants to visit it with you!" Her voice turned somewhat pleading near the end. She really wanted Rey-Rey to accept her as a friend.

Suffice to say, Xia wasn't exactly skilled at cooking, either. She knew not to try too much, but Lux was expecting a big, amazing dish and instead all there was was a few little burnt fish crisps and burnt rice, with some kind of sauce that made the whole thing taste really, really sour. She looked at the bag of scallops she bought from Babylon a few days ago, and placed it back in the fridge, not trusting her cooking abilities enough to be able to make use of them. Xia was sad - she wanted to be useful. She wanted to be able to do something to help improve the lives of everyone around her, and yet she was always so useless. She didn't have any talents, not really. She wasn't really good at anything at all.

”Nata, seriously, don't worry about it, okay?" Lux urged from inside her head. ”It's okay, I'll eat whatever you make me. With enough practice, I know you'll succeed."

That wasn't what Xia really wanted, though. She wanted someone to criticize her, to tell her what she did wrong so she could improve. If everyone just kept saying that she didn't need to be good, then she would never improve, and never be of use to anyone. Xia really didn't want that kind of fate.

”I'll try harder next time, sis." Xia thought, somewhat sad. The food really was a disaster, it was horrible. It made Xia upset that she still never managed to repay Lux for all of the times she saved her, for preventing her from having to marry Charon and leave behind everything she knew. Then Xia got a message from Satsuki from Babylon, something about Origin and Aretha coming to visit? That made Xia happy, really happy! While Lux dealed with White, Xia would be glad to entertain the guests. They were probably on bounty hunting busienss, or maybe Satsuki just wanted some time to think without Aretha being restless, but whatever it was, there was plenty of fun to have in Nox Astra. Xia already had a day planned out.

”I'll be waiting for them!" Xia told Satsuki in an excited tone over her device. ”You can count on me, Satsuki!"

When Lux finally arrived, Xia ran to hug her favorite big sister - her only big sister, really. The two were inseparable, and spent each day always thinking of one another. It was inevitable, really - the two had an ever present telepathic link to each other. Wherever they were, they'd always have someone with them. It was a perfect, unbreakable bond. Not even horribly burnt fish could ruin what they had.

”You'll get there, Xia. Don't push yourself, okay?"

Xia wanted to push herself, but she accepted the head rub from her sister. She always liked receiving them from her, even when they were children, back in the days of Praetora. Xia hoped that forever and always, Xianata would be her primary and top priority. Was that bad? Was it possessive? Maybe, but it was what she felt, and she'd be honest to those feelings. They were, after all, sisters. Xia was happily humming to herself, scheduling times and appointments for various arcades and karaoke places and a nice fancy restaurant while Lux went to make a call to Joshua White.

The screen blinked on and the General quickly adjusted his uniform to make it seem as if he hadn't rushed to set up his office for a council call.
"Ah, Lux. I deeply apologize on behalf of Joshua White he will connect as soon as possible." As he spoke his bushy mustache trembled and wiggled like a furry caterpillar stuck to his upper lip. He was dressed in the official maroon of White City looking a bit like an over-ripe cranberry with bronze buttons and badges glistening on his chest.

”No worries, I understand that Mr. White is likely a busy man, after all." The ruler of Nox Astra said pleasantly, waving off the apology. Her head tilted slightly - an indicator that she received a message from her younger sister, Xia, and her featured softened just the slightest tad. Xia seemed excited about the arrival of Aretha and Origin, and Luxara happily told her to enjoy herself if possible. There was barely a sign of this, however, for anyone watching the screen. ”Hopefully he won't take too long, however, General."

Joshua, at the moment, was occupied in the bathroom scrubbing blood from under his fingernails with a sponge as he cursed under his breath about foul timing and wondering if it was somehow a plot to undo him. He calmed however moments later when the last of the blood dissipated in queer foggy pink strands of fluid down the drain droplets clinging to the marble of the expensive sink. He sighed heavily his mind clouded with imagery of Ronan hanging luringly, dripping with blood"MOUSE!" He yelled, his voice harsh and angry. Mouse hurried from the office, clutching a feather duster to his thin chest"You go down there and make sure he doesn't die on me. Bind him up if you have to but DON'T YOU DARE let him free. You know what will happen to you if you even think of it."

Mouse trembled like a leaf at the mere consideration of the possibility and nodded quickly. Joshua flicked a hand to dismiss him and dried himself with a towel wiping his face to make sure no signs of stress showed in beads of sweat. A quiet beep sounded from seemingly nowhere and an announcement came to him in the sound of a slightly stressed officer's voice.

"Sir, we have a problem in security. The Financial district-"

"I don't want to hear it!" Joshua shouted. "Shut up and deal with it until I finish my council meeting. Alright? What do I train you for?"

Joshua let out a long hissing sigh and left the bathroom grabbing the dress jacket left for him by Mouse. He took a long careful breath and opened his line to communication. He flashed his trademark smile at the camera and greeted Lux his usual way.

"Lux, my dear southern neighbor, how are you this evening?"

”I'm fairly well, thank you." Luxara said in her room, surrounded by her many stuffed animals, not caring too much about things such as formality. She was home, after all, and she didn't feel like going back to the Lunar Citadel. A bed could be considered an office-type chair if you squinted, right? She grinned pleasantly at Joshua, her northern neighbor. ”How have you been, friend?"

Joshua found himself making quiet judgments as their correspondence began, noting her usual informality and taking that as a sign of novice leadership. ’Of course’ he thought absently, [i] ‘She was never really meant to rule was she?’[i/] He laughed openly however carelessly waving a hand. "You know how it is. Though it's mostly peaceful not much more than a drunken brawl to contend with here, there's a lot of business to handle here. This place is a booming metropolis after all. Moreover, I didn't really come to speak to you about that. My concern right now is Styx. He's advancing rather boldly and I feel we need to address it somehow, as a common trade alliance at the very least."

Lux nodded, face becoming more serious, a sort of dissonance between the toys and the ruler. The advances of Styx were always something to worry about, a begrudging thorn at everyone's side as their eventual arrival to the east would change everything if they weren't careful. There was something first, though, that she felt like bringing up. ”Before we deal with that, I heard there was a skirmish near your borders a few hours ago? Involving a mass abduction plot?" The woman's eyes seemed to glow with concern, though her clock eye was carefully hidden under the locks of night-colored hair. ”I figured your scouts would have heard of it, but I mentioned in just in case." She then brought up the latest spy reports from Styxian territory, with markings for predicted army movements and invasion dates, wiring them over to the leader of White City.

Joshua made a well-practiced pause at the mention of the abductions, taking care not to betray any worry in his gaze. "Abductions?" He said pointedly raising the tone of his voice in surprise. One of his officers listening in on the conversation as he'd been instructed to in every council call made quick motions to investigate anything related to abductions that could have been on its way to White's desk. "It seems....one of your caravans..." He spoke through a private channel in an earpiece, giving very little detail. Joshua made no reaction to the news. "Right well we'll see to that...I won't have suspicious activity in my territory." He murmured. He brought up the predictions on his screen and observed them. "What are your plans?"

”He seems to be pressing the villages nearest to your borders first." Lux muttered, still somewhat off put by the estimated strength of the western army. ”By razing your farmlands, I'd imagine he'd try starving out our armies. We could attempt to form an initiative and prevent Styx's advance altogether with what we currently have, though that would give us less time to prepare for the attack. He might not predict this, though it is risky for us." She paused, glancing, then marking an X somewhat near White City but also not too far from Nox Astra, close to a mountain range and as such naturally defensible. ”We could also allow Charon to take the outer farmlands, relocate your farmers inward and try to funnel his army into this location, giving us more time to organize and prepare. Admittedly, Charon might be able to foresee this course of action... Thoughts?" Xia mentioned something about Babylon at that time, saying they might want to help if they could. Lux saw no reason to bring it up as of yet, though, wanting to gauge Joshua's reaction before making a judgment.

Joshua took a moment, sitting back in his chair in thought. He really didn't know what sort of fighters Lux had but he knew his fighters where best on the offensive and when the opponent least expected them. Right now would be perfect but the effect wouldn't last after all Styx only had his raiding parties out. His real offensive hadn't even warmed up for battle yet. They'd wipe out the raiders then promptly get pounded by Charon's vanguard. "We have to bring them in. Charon might expect an attack but that might be to our advantage if we plan right. He'll bring his vanguard right toward us without knowing what arsenal we have."

Though Nox Astra's forces were very well equipped for wars of attrition, taking minimal losses while dealing damage thanks to a certain ability, Lux knew she needed to preserve that trump card for emergencies. If anyone, including her ally-for-now, Joshua, ever found out, it would mean they could prepare for it somehow. So Josh's words of the second option, luring in the raiding parties and the vanguard in order to deal a more decisive strike seemed much more beneficial for her in every way except for the likelihood that food would be a problem during the rebuilding process. "We could do that..." Lux said, voice carefully neutral.

"However..." Josh began again"Once we do that he'll know what we have to work with and neither of us have the personnel or smarts to defeat the entire Styx army alone."

Styx's numbers were terrifyingly massive. Even with the best strategies and tactics, the two of Nox and White weren't enough to last the full brunt. "About that." Luxara said, after briefly listening to a little tidbit of information Xia sent her way. "I've heard rumors of a... place in the west where the remnants of the faeries hide. If we could contact them and bring them into the Anti-Styx coalition, perhaps we'd stand more of a chance." A reluctant frown was on her face. ...Or if need be, use them as scapegoats for Charon to focus on while we strike him from the rear. As a last resort, of course..."

Joshua frowned slightly. "I heard that place was a myth. We ought to send a caravan, joint made to see if we can actually make contact before we make official plans to involve such a queer place. I'll not have rumors of fae magic ruin the fate of my city."

Luxara then smiled, full of sugar and sweetness. "What matters most is that Styx believes they exist, not if they do. With a potential enemy to the south of his own, he'd hesitate, allowing us to gain the advantage if we so wished."

"A theoretical threat only lasts so long as the enemy believes in it; I'd like contact with this....fae haven to make solid plans that actually do damage." Joshua said stoutly, waving off the sweetness with spite.

"Then shall we feign an opening in the valley I marked in the map for the time being as we prepare an.. anonymous caravan to seek out the fae haven?"

"That sounds reasonable. I'd like a catalogue of your military strengths before I send my people to aid you. I can send you my own in return. If we're working together we ought to know our armies to better strategize. I can tell you right off my berzerkers would make best for an ambush weapon. They can decimate anything that approaches that valley."

Luxara pressed a few buttons, sending the requested info which had no mention whatsoever of her time abilities - though Xia instantly scolded her for being too trusting, it was too late. Lux tilted her head just a tad, thinking. "Perhaps a joint force of my Fear Choppers and your Berserkers could attack in ambushes." Luxara proposed, voice inviting. "Our air force excels in speed, mobility, and guerilla warfare. They can easily disrupt enemy lines to create an opening for your berserkers to make thei mark." The Fear Choppers were the staple of Nox Astra's might, consisting of squadrons of helicopters with medium armor, armed with mounted railguns to demolish heavy armored targets, as well as a speaker that sent a signal that amplified the fear sectors of the human brain. The ground forces consisted of light vehicles that could move quickly and efficiently, with ranged laser weaponry, good for anti-infantry movements, as well as some heavier (though still small) tanks that could soak damage and deal quite a bit as well. These also had the ability to send out a rocket that emitted an electro-magnetic-pulse that could temporarily disable all enemy electric or laser based technology, though could only be sparingly used, and effective for a short period of time. Speed and mobility was the key here.

"Perfect." Joshua muttered, he sent her a detailed catalogue of his forces including diagrams showing the weapons involved but leaving out the part involving his brainwashing methods. Joshua officially had the best melee force in the country and a very mediocre tank and jeep set with unimpressive ranged weapons. His berserkers came up as the most threatening feature and showed up on her screen as wild looking men in formidable body armor with light weapons such as battle axes, hatchets, swords and other melee weapons lined in bright hot neon blades that had the ability to cut into untreated steel like butter. His more secretive forces where tanks, as in highly armored fighters with similar melee weapons as the berserkers but heavier and with stronger light blades that can cut through typical vehicular armor. Both were noted to have no concept of fear and very little response to physical pain. Detailed strategical movements were challenging as they attacked everything labeled as -enemy- with no concept of high priority or low priority. They wouldn't be well off in a hunt for generals and commanders in open battle.

Lux grinned warmly as she reviewed the data, glad to be able to work in conjunction with an army that seemed to compliment her own quite well. Perhaps the balance would be able to hold firm against Styx long enough for them to come up with another course of action. If all went well, that would be how it was. "Closer to the battle, we should convene again." Lux said with a friendly tone. "Is there anything else you wished to discuss, Joshua?"

Joshua's eyes lit up as he remembered his secondary request. He sat back casually, taking a sip of water from a glass and waved his hand dismissively. "Ah, nothing so important, just a little something about a steel mill on your border. You see he expressed interest in doing business with me and I figured you wouldn't mind if I bought his land off him." He grinned charismatically and spread his arms open handed in a friendly gesture.

Xia's words were sharp and snapped Lux out of the slight reverie she wasn't even aware she was in. No matter how casual Josh acted, Xia made sure Lux remembered that he was an intelligent and cunning businessman, rather than a war strategist. Lux's eyes focused and Xia muttered the name Tapsis into her head. "There is bandit activity in the area, is there not?" Lux's voice was soft, full of worry, though her clock eye was sharp. "I wouldn't want you to have to send your forces so far just for a steel mill, that wouldn't be right at all! I could simply place the man under my protection, couldn't I?"

Josh's charismatic grin dropped slightly, "Bandits? You think something as little as that could be a burden to White City and co? We can handle it!" Josh was never real clear on how she did that. It seemed she snapped out of her own will to obey every time he tried to pull the wool over her eyes. It wasn't right. It wasn't natural. He sighed impatiently and chuckled lightly, "Alright then. You can't help a friendly neighbor from suggesting, right? Perhaps after this Styx business you'll reconcider."

"We'll see, Mr. White." Lux offered Josh her best dazzling smile, seeming more like a cheery teenager than a ruler of Nox Astra. "It was kind of you to offer! I know how you care for small business owners in this cruel world, after all!"

"Truly it is they who suffer the most in this.... dismal desert." He crooned dramatically"Anyhow it was good to speak to you, I'll send you a few of my people for the journey to the Fae and begin the withdrawal of my farmers to that valley of yours. A heavy squad of berserkers and some tanks just in case as well to be stationed with your copters."

Luxara nodded, a bubbly aura emanating off of her as she clapped her hands. "I'll prepare similarly! Thank you for the call, Joshua, it really was a pleasure! I hope to hear of you later when the war with Styx becomes more imminent!" With a little wave, the display cut off.

Joshua let out a slow exhale willing himself not to throw the empty glass of water across the room. He touched the earpiece aggressively and spat angrily at the poor operator at the other end"MY CARAVAN?! WHAT THE FUCK happened to it?!" He shouted slamming the glass down as he got to his feet. The operator whom had all but fallen asleep on the other end jumped, nearly knocking his headpiece to the floor. "And what is happening in financial?!"

"S-sir! I...." There was a ruffling of papers as the operator fought to organize himself. "It seems that...someone attacked several shops in financial district, practically put the place to ruins. Millions in damages....and...the caravan, we're still waiting on details for that. It happened out in the desert so.....it's not as if we have scouts everywhere out there...our resources..."

"Well FIND OUT!" Spit flew from Joshua's lips as he shouted. The operator winced as another message appeared on his log.

"A-....also...sir....it seems...."

"Spit it out before I send someone up there to wring your neck!" Joshua snarled.

"One of your clients was murdered...."

At that point Josh promptly cut out as he had crushed the earpiece beneath his heel.

Urara really loved relaxing in the hot springs and she made a delighted sound when Rey-Rey entered, too! Ura wasn't sure Rey knew how to use one, since she was always in the desert and everything, but it seemed the dog girl was pleased with the warmth, though the dirt and grime was still sticking to her skin. Ura wanted Rey to look and feel pretty and awesome, so she knew she'd have to find an excuse to do a little scrubbing - but nothing too much or else Rey-Rey might get uncomfortable. Ura wanted her friend to like her, so she knew she'd have to be careful! Maybe as careful as Joshie was about sticks, though the girl still had no idea what was so intimidating about the tiny things. Joshie was silly, up in that tower. What fun could there be, anyways?

"This is a hot spring!" Urara exclaimed with excitement and joy, answering Rey-Rey's question happily. "It's water we can go into if we want to relax and feel warm and good! Does Reyna like it?" The young ruler of New Praetora's eyes seemed to shimmer with hope, hoping her best friend liked it as much as she did. "Ura hopes you like it, Ura wants Rey-Rey to be happy and be rewarded for being such a good girl against those bad people before!"

Urara placed her hands on Rey-Rey's shoulders with a wide smile, subtly rubbing, scrubbing with her hands to try and cleanse her pet., occasionally adding an ear scritch and a belly rub to the mix. "Rey-Rey's really pretty! Ura loves you so much!" Warm feelings from her chest and from the water seemed to flood the young girl with emotions. "Can we be friends forever and ever? Maybe one day bring Mr. Mittens to visit, too?"

After the meeting with Joshua, Lux knew that there was work to do. She carefully read over the reports of White City's military might, pondering, pondering. The berserkers were likely going to be a linchpin in the plan against Styx once they approached with the raiding parties and possibly even the vanguard. Fighting in a place with only one entrance from the west was their best hope of winning. The problem were the rumors of these monstrous tanks that apparently could never fall, no matter what. Hopefully the lasers and electricity would be enough to deal damage, though Lux desperately wanted to perfect plasma technology and try mounting that on her helicopters to be able to literally melt through any kind of armor.

”Thank you for your help. That ability of his really is a bother, I'm sorry if it took up your time, Nata." Lux thought as she took the subway back to the Lunar Citadel. Honestly, even though she lived with Xia near the lake, almost all of her time was spent at the Lunar Citadel, wasn't it? It was much easier, much more natural to get work done when it was dark out, and the moon was shining over Nox Astra. She had a message waiting for her, after all - something about prototype plasma rifles being ready for use? Luxara was excited to try them out!

”Sis, it's no problem!" Xia's voice was high and chipper; she was clearly looking forward to spending time with her friends from Babylon. ”I love being able to help out! Thank you for letting me!" Sometimes, Lux really just wanted to pat her sister's head because of how cute and adorable she was. Xia was a precious little thing, and nothing would ever change that. Lux wouldn't let anyone corrupt her.

The ruler of Nox Astra eventually reached the weapons testing room, gladly picking up the two plasma rifles. They were still prototypes, of course, so there was always risk of them malfunctioning in some way. It wasn't tested enough for widespread use, but at least she could have these two as personal weapons for when the war began, right? Lux entered the testing room as robotic enemies floated in through the vents. She dodged a burst of electricity and returned fire - one round of plasma disintegrating one drone and sending the molten chunks into the one behind it, causing a small explosion with others in the blast. This was unbelievably fun! This was exhilarating! A wide grin splayed across her face as she danced across the fake battlefield with ballerina-like grace and agility.

When the testing was over, Lux placed the rifles into the compartment for more upgrades, tweaks, improvements. ”They could do with more accuracy, a better coolant system for more shots fired at once, something to increase the range and lower the weight, as well. We should also consider making larger versions of the rifles in order to mount on our air forces." She quickly scribbled a few schematics for her scientists to look at, an incredibly happy look on her face. There wasn't many things quite as fun as fighting, was there?

With Lux being fed and the meeting with White completed, Xia decided she would ride around the subways, primarily the entertainment district which would be where Aretha and Origin would most likely want to spend time in. Nox Astra was famous for it's vibrant night life, full of... adult entertainment in one particularly famous district known as Elysium was particularly notorious. Unfortunately it was also seedy and dark, and no matter how many times big sis Xara tried to shut down the brothels, they'd always prop up somewhere else in the district. Xia did try entering once but apparently there were express orders from Lux to absolutely not let Xara anywhere near Elysium. Honestly, though, Xia was curious, how bad could it be? What if Aretha and Origin wanted to visi-

”No! Absolutely not, Nata, that's completely out of the question!" Lux's voice rang sternly in Xia's mind, making the younger girl sigh as she walked through a different district, also for entertainment but of a more family friendly variety. This was one of the main population nexuses of Nox Astra, known as the Azuria District. This was where you went for popular merchandise of Nox Astra's many idols, or shows, or even video games, if you so wished! Lux designed it after the mythological "Akihabara" from the human city of Tokyo before civilization's fall, and it seemed just as popular in this time period as well. ”Is Elysium really that bad, Xara?"

Xia could almost hear Lux's shudder. ”You're never allowed, never ever! I forbid you, Xia!" Xia whined, something about being a grown up and being allowed to make her own decisions but Lux quickly shut her down with ruthless ferocity .”You'll never enter, and that's final! Understood, Xianata?" Whenever Lux used her full name, it meant that she was serious. Xia sent a surrender and mentally promised to not visit for the time being.

It was easy to smile when Xia realized that there was a con for some sort of show that Origin might enjoy. Xia marked it down in her notes, making sure to bring it up with her friends from Babylon when they arrived. People greeted her as she passed them, and the girl felt a little warm but also slightly uncomfortable that she was so well loved. It was nice, of course, but she didn't feel like she really deserved any of it. The girl rarely did anything to help anyone, and she didn't understand why she'd be almost worshiped by the entire city.

Later, Xia went to work a night shift at Old Man Crawley's diner, the Crawlhaven. He welcomed her with a bright expression, looking a little confused - Xia usually only worked for the breakfast shift, after all. ”I want to help contribute to making the city great! I'm sorry if I'm a bother!" Xia explained after putting on the maid uniform. She smiled happily at her boss, who just shrugged helplessly. "You're always welcome, Xianata. We're glad to have you."

With her optimism, Xia almost didn't notice as one foot tangled into another and she tumbled merely minutes into her shift, a plate full of warm food being launched, in an arc formation, landing on an unassuming man's head, ruining his nice fancy clothes. Before anything could happen, the Princess of Nox Astra got up and kneeled in front of the man several times, desperately. ”I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, mister, I didn't - I didn't mean to, I'm so clumsy! I'll reimburse you extra for the cleaning costs, I swear! I'm just so stupid!'

As clumsy as she was, Xia had trouble figuring out why everyone seemed to like her so much. How could someone so loved make such a dumb mistake?

Urara woke up with a little smile on her face, sun shining through the window. Today was going to be a good day, wasn't it? She yawned and stretched, a satisfied grin on her face. Yes, this was definitely going to be a good day. With a new best friend, she wouldn't have be lonely now. She'd have someone to stand beside her and make her feel like she mattered to someone for who she was, instead of just for some stupid job like ruling a city. Ura would never admit it but sometimes she cried because she felt no one really cared. But with Rey-Rey here, everything was good! Yes, yes it definitely was! It-

Then Urara realized that Reyna was in the bed with her. And that she had somehow grabbed Reyna in her sleep and was hugging her like a pillow. Ura remembered that Reyna didn't look like she liked stuff like that so she muttered an apology and let go, climbing out of the bed. Her heart thumped as she looked at the fox girl, cheeks reddening. What was this strange reaction? Urara gave Rey-Rey one last ear scritch and left the room to get breakfast early. The sooner the better, so she could take Rey and escape the city for a new adventure!

"Urara's so happy with Rey-R" That was when her wrist was grabbed roughly by Minister Riordan, who looked at her with a stern expression. She couldn't escape! She was pinned down, what was happening? What horrible torture lecture was about to happen? "You're not getting anywhere!" Riordan barked. "Mistress, after the slavers incident, you need to address certain things in the city, you need to build an actual military and start developing weapons and conducting trade with Nox Astra and White City to get more weapons and -"

"But Urara wants to play with Rey-"

"No! This is your duty as a ruler, so you're coming with me, young lady!" So as Urara yelled and cried and struggled, she was dragged into the meeting room, chained into her seat to work on filling out paperwork and talking to people who used big fancy words she didn't even almost understand. This wasn't fun at all!

Xia stroked the black bird appreciatively, eyes wide with awe and wonder. What was this strange man, why was he so cool? Xia never had something like this before - she was always loved by the city, but it was always at a distance, as if they were afraid Luxara would come and kill them if they got too close! It was nice that she was protected and safe but Xia wanted some kind of freedom, she didn't want to be restrained all the time! She wanted to be able to make friends and interact with people and get to know them on a more personal level, like with this Tommy! She shrunk away a little at the mention of the words bandit and pirate, knowing some bandits who tried looting the food caravans sent from White City before they arrived, as well as pirates generally not being nice people.

”Parties are good!" Xia said agreeably, but frowned slightly, eyes as wide as saucers, tilting her head up to look at the tall man. ”But, um, if you're a bandit, please don't hurt good people! Be a nice bandit, okay?" When Tommy, her new friend (if he was a friend) mentioned the fantastic secret place, her face lit up in excitement. Yes, she would, she definitely would! She nodded vigorously as Tommy spread his wings - they looked really fluffy and she wanted to touch them - and then her friend too flight, almost making a race challenge. The crow soon followed, so Xia knew what she had to do.

”I'll get there first!" The girl shouted, activating her powers and feeling the blissful weightlessness as she lifted up off of the ground. Lux always told her to not use her powers too often, to not have it be well known but what was the harm of flying and swimming powers, anyways? What did it matter if anyone knew? Xia didn't know, but she did very well know the map of the air currents in the skies of Nox Astra. She shot high up into one, feeling the wind sending her faster, giving her the boost she needed to get ahead of Tommy, sticking a tongue out at him. ”I'm faster than you!" She teased, then focused on speed. It was hard to ignore the beautiful sprawling view of the city from above, the maze-like streets and buildings that stretched out very far, as well as the sparkling lake not too far out. She then pointed to her home with Lux on the lake - small, quaint, and almost well hidden. ”That's my house! I want to take you swimming over the lake, though, where it's so foggy and nice and there's no one around!" The princess giggled cheerfully, doing her best to keep ahead with her demon powers.

”Nox Astra is so pretty at night, Tommy! One night we should fly over it together, maybe?"

And then Xia's heart caught in her throat and childish guilt burst through her chest, forcing her to momentarily stop her flight.

”Xianata, what do you think you're doing?!"

When Luxara woke up, she had a bad feeling that something was wrong, mostly because she noticed that her door was open and that Xia must have snuck in to do something or other. The girl was usually good and obedient, rarely ever rebelling, but she was getting to the age where kids tended to act up. Lux groaned, wondering if she would have to revert Xia's body to that of a younger age to keep her innocent and pure. Would that work, would it maintain their ephemeral happiness of the present time? Lux felt conflicted, unsure. She wanted Xia happy, she wanted to make sure nothing bad ever happened to her. Lux made a few orders to her officials to start setting up a caravan to explore the Fae haven and then turned her attention to her top priority.

”Xianata, what do you think you're doing?!"

Within seconds Lux was bombarded with Xia accidentally streaming the meeting. Innocent sweet Xia had - she entered Elysium, entered a brothel, what the hell were the police thinking letting a little girl in? They should have made sure this didn't happen, this stupid degenerate perverted man had her sister and she -

”Sis, please! Tommy's fun, he's cool, I like him, please don't get mad! I just wanted a friend!" Xia's voice was rushed, urgent, and Lux then realized that her sister was flying - the one place where Lux couldn't easily reach. She had a plan though, of course she had a plan, she wasn't just going to let sweet little Xia be defiled by this horrible man -”Defiled? What does that even mean?! Sis, what are you saying, it's just fun, I promise!"

Luxara scowled and grabbed her communicator. ”General Caridan, fly your helicopter over, I need to use it for something important!"

Within moments Lux was hovering over Lake Xiana, ready to shoot down the disgusting winged man as Xia screamed and begged inside of her mind to stop being so silly, to just let her have fun.

”There! I told him what you're doing so we're just going fo fly somewhere else! I don't like it when you're liks this, Xara!"

It was then that Lux decided to take pursuit and rescue her sister from the clutches of the biggest threat yet to Nox Astra's peace - a bandit named Tommy.

Tom glanced back at the vehicle on their tail, rotors vibrating the air. "Who on earth is that?!"

Despite his surprise, Tom looked more excited than afraid. He sped up his flight speed and tipped his wings weaving this way and that in the air. He slowed until He was flying right next to the copter. "HEY! Out for a fly?"

Anger and rage built up in Lux's mind as she stared at the winged man, completely ignoring the fact that they were, in fact, creating a scene. This wasn't allowed, someone like him who would visit such an indecent establishment wasn't allowed anywhere near her sister! Luxara maneuvered the controls, spinning the vehicle to aim the mounted railgun directly at the winged man who was obviously trying to seduce the cute and innocent Xia! "Okay, it's kinda weird when you think of me like - also no! No, don't hurt him, we're just trying to have fun! Lux transmitted anger through the telepathy and then pressed a button, barrel whirring, ready to fire.

Thomas tucked his wings and summersaulted till he plummeted from the air. He spread his wings again once he was below the copter's level and glided straight for it. He caught the rail just barely, misjudging the trajectory and swung like a monkey from the bottom. "H-hey! Are you trying to kill me?! Listen, we should talk about it I don't know what I stole from you but....um....I could make up for it!"

When Lux attacked and Tommy flew closer, Xia felt fear pounding in her chest. Why was it happening like this? "Um, that's my sister..." The girl explained with a helpless shrug, trying to block out the raging that was being streamed into her mind. "She's... um, protective..."

"Oh!" Tommy said over the thundering of the rotors. Then he muttered under his breath. "That explains it."

Thomas clambered carefully up the side of the copter even as it swayed and bucked. He clutched the door and tried to shake the door open. "HEY! Can you unlock this I wanna chat! We'd probably get along if you didn't just shoot at my face." He yelled through the glass. He pounded on the window and shook the door handle.

"Please!" Xia urged, trying to break Luxara down. However, and perhaps this scared the princess more than her rage, was an overly calm smile suddenly appearing on her big sister's face. Luxara undid the lock, then the hidden eye started to glow, freezing time despite Xia's warnings to not use her ability haphazardly. She was meant to save it for emergencies, and well... this counted as an emergency, didn't it? Xia's safety and chastity was of utmost importance! So she opened the door, ignoring the slight feeling of pressure in her skull, grabbed the birdman -while also freeing him from being frozen in time - and shut it. Before he could do anything the girl shot him a smile full of sugar and bubbles while simultaneously aiming one of her new babies - the plasma rifle - in his face. "Okay, let's make very good friends." She said cheerfully. "What could be more intimate than seeing your insides splattered in my helicopter?'

Tommy blinked, shock clear in his eyes as he glanced around him. "W-what the hell-...." He decided not to dwell on it for a moment and kept his hands up baring his palms. "Listen, I have no intention of doing anything....improper with her or anything. She's too young and I'm not that kind of pervert. I-in fact I did her a favor leading her out of there, she could have just stuck around and saw more crap, right?"

The hands in her left eye were spinning madly as she stared at the pervert at the end of her gun's barrel. While his words were valid... she was angry! And whoever he was, he was probably unimportant anyways! Right? Probably? "Oh, so you're saying she's not cute enough for you?" A venomous type of sugar laced her words now. "What defines your standards? Would a pervert like you want to... d-do... things with me, then? Was that your goal all along?" She subtly pulled the safety on the rifle.

Thomas was very very very aware of the trap she'd laid him and not once in his life did he feel more in danger than now. He was very conscious about what his body was doing, his posture, the way his heart pounded and precisely where his eyes where pointed. He felt uncomfortable even looking at her, her eyes furious and judging of his every move, yet he knew if he looked away she'd take that as a lie. "N-now see here. That's unfair I didn't even know you two where sisters how could I plot something like that?" He purposefully avoided questions about her appearance and his level of attraction towards her knowing there was no good answer to that one. "H-honestly all my sexual needs are....I mean.....I just wanted to fly, is that so bad?"

Then the ruler of Nox Astra relaxed, though her face remained sweetly grinning at the man. With a deep breath and now a painful stabbing sensation in her skull she lowered her gun. "Oh, is that all?" She paused for a second. "...Was that what you expected me to say?" With as much force as she could muster she grabbed the winged man's wrist and placed it on her chest - ignoring the sudden flushing of her cheeks - and stared directly at a certain part of the man's body to test his reaction. "What does a brothel have to do with flying, anyways?!"

"AAH! What are you doing?!" He cried out and attempted to take his hand back, his face turning an instant red. He tried, tried his hardest NOT to think about how soft it was there and tried his damned hardest to fight the instinct to squeeze. There was no winning this sort of battle and he quickly covered himself with his spare hand feeling her eyes go to that specific point. "H-HEY! "

"You're allowed to squeeze whenever you like..." A wink and a cheeky smile. "Very few get this chance, you know..."

For a split second Thomas felt his mind almost give his hand the command. However at the last point Thomas snapped to, "W-yeah because you shoot them with miniguns before they get the chance! I know a trap when I see one don't take me for an idiot! Let me go! I'd rather keep my nads in one piece!"

Seeing the pervert resist, she released the hand, sighing heavily. She wanted to just open the door and let him drop to his death but... well, he had wings, and Xia would rescue him even if she cut his wings off and sold them to Joshua White as a rare bounty. Though she was still oh so very tempted to do just that. "I still don't see why you have to fly with my cute, adorable little sister!" Her eyes were furious but her mind felt like it was being ripped in half, breaths quickening. "A pervert like you... how can you be trusted!?"

Thomas rubbed his wrist, avoiding her eyes. "It's not like I forced her to come. She wanted to fly too. What did you expect me to do take her innocence mid air? Strike her down like a vulture? I'm a thief I steal things not people. In fact I went to a brothel because it's their job to do stuff like that. They don't mind. In fact everyone had a mighty good time while I was there. I never understand people like you who try to stop it."

Maybe it was because she knew she couldn't keep up the time stop for much longer, or because she felt a similar power from this man as she did from Josh - though it was also somewhat different in a way she couldn't quite place. Or perhaps it was the... mighty good time... but Lux's cheeks went bright red and she let out a strange noise that she'd never ever make again. Which, of course, made her angrier. "It-it... it-'s indecent! It's... inappropriate! It-'s - it's a bad influence on Xia and - you're a degenerate.... thing! Why shouldn't I just kill you?"

A smile appeared on Thomas's face after she made that sound, promptly after the brief look of surprise. "Kill me? For having a good time? For flying with Xia? I did no wrong here missy and you know it. So kill me if you want but you'd be killing an innocent man."

He'd taken a few steps toward her as he spoke and stood arms crossed in front of him, daring her to shoot him."If you kill me your little sister would cry and be upset. I doubt many people can fly with her way up here without noisy vehicles like this."

Unfortunately, everything he said was correct. Which meant she couldn't kill him in good conscience, no matter how much she oh so dearly wanted to. Lux grabbed his wrist again, a scowl on her face as she kicked the door open for his freedom and escape. "I'm not buying it. Hope you said your goodbyes." She then fired a plasma round at him - and released time on both Tom and the round at the same time - then with time still stopped she nudged Tommy out of the way and released time altogether, the shot harmlessly going right next to his ear. The big sister then tossed her other plasma rifle at Xia after leaning out the door. "Nata! That's a taser you can use on him if he even tries touching you, understood?" Without another word she flew off, too angry to want to think more, feeling tired and dizzy from the use of her powers.

Xia knew that there was something she missed in the whole conversation and flew over to catch the taser that looked like a big gun before turning her attention to her winged friend. "Um... I hope she didn't hurt you or anything! Are you okay? Are we still friends?"

It took Thomas a moment to snap out of it. He plummeted backwards through the air till he flipped and came back up on his wings. "Goodness, not at all. It's dawned on me that I have been stealing the wrong things all my life." He smiled wistfully.

"Of course we're still friends. Who else can challenge you at flying?"

The princess smiled brightly at the news that they were still friends and she held the gun awkwardly, not knowing how to use it in the slightest. She never handled a weapon before, and she fumbled with it, trying to make it comfortable in her arms - accidentally firing a round far too close to Tommy. She stared for a moment, confused, frowning, then squealed, apologizing fervently. "Uh, y-you can have it! I... I don't want it! I trust you won't do weird things like that to me!" Afraid her friend might get the wrong idea of her big sister, Xia's saucer-like eyes widened in earnest, knowing she had to try and smooth things over. "Please don't hate Lux! It's just, we're all each other has left ever since our parents died, and she doesn't want me to get hurt! I promise she's really a nice person once you get to know her!"

Thomas chuckled, his eyes softening. "She cares about you a lot, I can see that. Here, let's land a while and I can teach you how to hold this properly, maybe I can get on your sister's good books, huh?" He chuckled lightheartedly "I know you won't shoot me with this unless I do something that makes you feel unsafe and, honestly I give you permission to do just that. I don't plan on hurting you or her for no good reason."

The girl's face brightened even more, a smile as dazzling as the sun, and she knew she could trust Tommy. Now she had a friend in the city, someone who survived Luxara's.... initiation! This was great, this was wonderful! She lead the way to the ground, landing softly in a patch of grass at the lake's edge, watching the fog roll over the mountains. Xia wasn't exactly a fan of fighting or war, but she liked the idea of learning new things! It was always a good idea to learn more, wasn't it? She regarded her new friend and awkwardly held the rifle, trying not to accidentally make it fire again. "Thank you for understanding her!" She chirped. "I'm excited to learn how to use this!"

Thomas landed gracefully a few seconds after she did and strode forward, his wings folding against his back, tucked neatly so as not to get in the way of his natural movement. "Alright let's see, we'll aim for that tree over there for practice, it should make singe marks to show where you hit. Now, stand naturally in a secure position like you normally would when about to fight. Being unsteady will mess up your aim and the first thing you'll want to learn is where the safety is."

Thomas leaned close, careful not to touch her inappropriately. He had no clue how Lux had found out or found where they were last time but he wasn't taking any chances on incurring her omnipotent wrath again. He motioned to take the gun and showed her the switch for the safety on the side of it. "See here? This will let you fire. This position will fire lots of shots automatically and this position will make it impossible to fire. Keep it on safety when you're not using it so you don't accidentally fire into your own foot or something."

He then held the gun in a ready position, looking rather natural with it, he lifted it to aim for the tree. "See the way I'm holding it, I don't have my finger on the trigger though, don't put it on the trigger unless you mean to shoot. That's the most safe way and have the butt of the gun rest here so that the recoil doesn't fling it out of your hands." He gestured to the spot where his shoulder met his chest. "You try and hold it, but don't shoot."

Xia stared with wonder as Tommy taught her the ropes, making sure to remember everything, soaking up each word like a sponge would water. She heard Lux's voice ringing in her head, telling her to accidentally shoot him but she had a feeling that that wouldn't be a good way to keep him as a friend. So, somewhat nervously, Xia took the gun in her arms, the weight and length quite awkward and uncomfortable but did her best to stand in the position he showed her, taking great care not to touch the trigger at all. It was heavy, though, and her arms were shaking slightly as she tried to aim it at the tree. "Um, am I doing okay?" She asked shyly.

"You're doing just fine, Xia. It's heavy isn't it." He looked at her curiously. "Most weapons are heavier than they look. You'll get used to it if you hold it enough times."

"Usually I wouldn't teach you how to fire until you got used to it but your sister wants you to feel safe around me. Look down the sights, can you see the little screen there with the cross at the center?"

The girl nodded, staring down at the screen, eyes trained on the cross. The princess clumsily adjusted her grip, making the cross line up with the tree she was supposed to be aiming at.

"Now, the kickback isn't nearly as forceful as with a ballistics weapon, a plasma is a little easier to fire but it still might surprise you since you're not used to weapons. Don't hold your breath when you pull the trigger, exhale and squeeze."

Xia closed one eye, holding her breath in as she listened to the warning, then stopped it, making a little laugh out of guilt and self deprecation. Her heart was racing, and her finger tensed on the-

"Hold on, Xia. Keep both your eyes open, you need them both to judge distance and aim straight." Thomas said suddenly, "Fire when ready."

"Gah, I'm sorry!" She squealed in surprise, almost dropping the gun altogether, hand accidentally flicking off the safety as the girl recovered from the fumble. Now with both eyes open and a deep inhale, she flipped the safety on, intending to take it off, and adjusted her aim. Exhaling, she pressed the trigger.... and absolutely nothing happened. Xia stared in confusion, almost disappointed. "...Um, what did I do wrong?" Her shoulders slumped helplessly and she glanced at her mentor for advice.

"Hold on a minute, give me that." He mumbled, confused as to why it was jamming like that. "Plasma's really shouldn't jam."
He aimed for the tree as Xia had, exhaled and pulled the trigger.

"I even made the safety thing on off... I think..." Xia mumbled sadly when yet again nothing happened. "I'm sorry, I probably did something bad or something...!"

Thomas fumbled around with the gun for a bit before noticing the safety switch. "Oh....wow....there's our problem. You had it all backwards. The safety's on." He chuckled and switched it back off before taking a test fire. The shot went off as it was meant to. Thomas smiled and handed the rifle back to Xia.

With the weapon back in her hand and a blush at making such a silly mistake, Xia aimed, still feeling some discomfort with the size and weight of the thing. Lux was oddly silent in her mind - maybe to not startle her all of a sudden? Xia felt a... calming emotion being transmitted, soothing and encouraging and it relaxed the girl's nerves as she held the rifle. With a serious expression, she aimed it at the tree, trying to copy Tommy's posture as best as she could. Deep breath, exhale, and she pulled the trigger - the sudden jerk of the weapon surprised her and she jumped, falling backwards in surprise, yelping and giggling at the same time, completely not noticing how the shot hit nearly exactly where she was aiming. ”Ah that was so embarrassing!"
She said with a little smile at Tommy, getting back to her feet and ignoring the laughter from Lux's end, cheeks burning with shame.

Thomas laughed heartily and helped her to her feet. "Your steadiness needs a little work but you're a real good shot, I'll tell you that. Now at least you can protect yourself with that thing." Thomas stretched and sighed peering up at the sky. "So, your sister, she doesn't have anyone special besides you, huh. No guys or galls in her future?" He asked innocently.

Xia looked at her friend curiously. It was an innocent question, but it was also odd, wasn't it? While Xia was a very good diplomat when it came to political matters, this was somewhat out of her jurisdiction. But she did hear Lux's internal groan and informed Xia of exactly what Tommy was trying to get at. Was he really the type, though? Was Tommy maybe one of those weird people that liked danger and risk? Xia giggled a little, thinking it'd be cool if big sis Luxara could fall in love with - and yup, Lux started yelling in her head that Xia was all she needed, as predicted. The girl decided to play innocent for the time being. ”Well, um.... with worrying about me all the time and having to take care of a city, I don't think she gets to meet a lot of people in her spare time." Xia answered, setting the gun down, pleased at the compliments of her shot. ”If you're brave enough, maybe you could try talking to her more? I'm sure she would love a friend!"

"Hmmmmh" Thomas scratched his hairless chin thoughtfully. If only Lux had a window to his mind surely he'd never hear the end of her rage. 'Hard working woman in charge of a whole city, fiery personality with the protectiveness of a mother hen viking. She's magnificent' His eyes gleamed suspiciously. "Well I do make a good friend if I may say so myself. I make lots of friends all across the desert. I could show the both of you some pretty amazing things."

Xia's eyes seemed to sparkle light the lake's water. ”Amazing thi-" Then all of a sudden, for the briefest second, Xia had the mental image of something very inappropriate enter her head and Lux's endless apologizing and self hatred within seconds. The girl turned red as a tomato, trying and failing a few times to speak. After she calmed herself a little, Xia wriggled a little. ”...Um... I... normal amazing things, right? Right? Not like... last night party amazing?"

Thomas blinked a moment and chuckled. "I mean places! There are some amazing places out there. Ruins like metal graves a testiment to our history, sweet little farming villages and risky bandit towns I've even heard a rumor of a magic city where islands float high up into the sky. Imagine flying up to see those. I plan to get a boat made there someday."

At hearing about the magic city, the princess snapped to attention, beaming with excitement. For an entirely different reason, Luxara was also listening raptly, as this might just be the same myth that was the Fae haven. At hearing this, the girl knew what she had to do. ”That magic city, do you think the fae people might live there?" She asked eagerly, excitedly. ”I've always wondered what fae people look like, I've never seen one before! Could you maybe take me there?"

"Heheheh probably. I'd like to but I don't know where it is exactly. In fact I came here to find some partners to help me find it and join my crew. I've decided to upgrade from common bandit to pirate of the skies! The first of his kind!" Thomas stood much like a super hero, perching a foot on a rock and staring off into the distance his wings outstretched. "You could even join if your sis says it's ok."

The idea of being free, of going on an adventure to some rumored place and being able to see what the world had to offer was something that really excited her. Not to mention, she could act as the diplomat to try and talk the fae people (if they existed) to join the cause against Styx, right? That could happen, she could be actually useful for once! Everything about this made Xia feel giddy, as if it was what she was looking for for so long now. Even as Luxara protested in her mind, Xia knew she wanted to do it. She trusted Tommy, after all. And if she ever needed it, she did have that gun, but Xia really didn't expect to ever need it! He liked Lux after all! (Probably?)

”Let me ask her right now!" The girl said, too excited to remember that he likely had no idea about the powers and that they were best kept a secret. There was quite some back and forth - Lux being protective and worrisome, Xia wanting to be able to spread her metaphorical wings and see the wonders of the world...

”She says she'll make your life so painful you'll wish you were never born, but very reluctantly agreed!" Xia clapped her hands... then blinked. And then she realized. ”Um! Um, don't tell anyone about that, about - about our connection! It's super top secret, it's our, um, Lux says it's our trump card! Don't tell anyone, okay? Please?"

"I promise on my honour as a man and a future sky pirate. Should I tell a soul your sister can do as she wishes to my future corpse." Thomas said, putting a hand over his heart, he then said quietly under his breath. "And yet I would probably enjoy it, if it's by her hands."

"Together you and I and Lux if she wishes can look for the great mystery of the fae. I will have to do some "research" on my own around the city however. Myths are hard to find without information."

And then the inner businesswoman in Xia was triggered. ”Well, we have an amazing inn that would gladly take you in! I'll even put in a good word so that I can pay it for you, and you owe me later once you get super rich from being a pirate! It's got a penthouse available, and you can do a nosedive from the top from super high and it's so fun!" Xia grabbed at Tommy's hands with enthusiasm. ”Please enjoy your stay at the Penthisilea Hotel! They'll be happy to have you! I won't even charge too much interest!"

Thomas laughed heartily at the mention of interest. "You are a true business woman, I underestimated you. Your sister truly has a gold gem at her side. I will take you up on that. The thought of settling in a nice warm bath sounds like a dream right now.:"

"Ura will be good, so don't hurt Rey-Rey, okay?"

Rey was biting the cuffs, being the best friend ever but the people weren't so nice, Minister Riordan whacking her friend on the head, even! Why? Why did he do that, that was mean, Reyna deserved better! Urara was miserable, she hated this, she wanted to be free but she didn't like how the Minister was bullying poor Rey-Rey! Someone was talking about a pile of sticks or something, about White City and a team up and it hurt Urara's head, she didn't like it one bit, why was this fun? This wasn't even almost fun, this was just dumb and stupid! But if her men stopped being mean to Rey-Rey, then she'd put up with it. So she signed another paper that she didn't read and continued struggling against the cuffs.

Then they started scritching Rey's ears and Ura hated it, only she was allowed to do that, why did - why did the world hate her? Urara wasn't happy, not even almost, she just wanted to run away and have fun and be with Rey-Rey and stuff! But it seemed Rey was strong, she resisted the power of the evil scritch and went back to biting and gnawing, Ura's right hand becoming free. And then Rey bit through the other three and Urara could finally move again! The leader of New Praetora stuck her tongue out at the stupid old men. "Loooser! This isn't fun at all, no way!"

Rey bounded out the door first before looking back and falling on something, tail tangled in a man's belt. No way, Urara would never leave behind a friend, that wasn't ever going to happen! The girl shot herself like a bullet at the wall, grabbing her Adventure Pack, and slung it over her shoulder after retrieving her laser knife. With it she cut the belt, freeing Reyna and scritched the dog's ears fondly. "Thank you so much! Rey-Rey is such a good girl, Rey saved Ura! Ura loves you, she super loves you!" Ura hugged her best friend tightly and then shot the two away, out of New Praetora, out into the desert, and all the way back to the Oasis of -

Wait, what?

"...This isn't the oasis!" Ura exclaimed in shock, staring at the endless sand in every direction. "Rey-Rey, what - I'm sure I took us back! We were supposed to visit Mr. Mittenn!" Then Urara saw something even stranger - a strange man that she accidentally brought along for the bullet speed jumps. A strange, very strange man with stitches everywhere in his skin. Urara stared at the man curiously, not sure what to make of it.

"Rey-Rey... who is this? What do we do?"

Back in the Lunar Citadel, Lux and Xia sat, the sisters given a brief break from all the phone calls and reports and organizing and administration. With the morning work dealt with, Luxara knew she wanted some time to speak to Xia about what had happened earlier. Xia herself seemed a little uncomfortable - she was happy to help with work of course, but Luxara sensed that her unease was due to the winged man earlier.

”...It's not that I don't want you to be happy, Xia." Luxara snapped, voice sharp. ”But you can never know who to trust. I didn't want him to hurt you!"

Xia nodded with a sage expression, unhappy but understanding. ”I know, Xara." She said glumly. ”But I never had a friend in so long, and I don't think Urara even likes me anymore, after our betrayal. I just wanted to have someone else be important to me." The little girl was avoiding her big sister's gaze. ”I think the more important people we have, the better life is. And Tommy can fly with me, not many others can. I was a little lonely, and you're always working, and..."

The ruler of Nox Astra sighed heavily. ”You're allowed to be friends for now, Nata." She said, still hating the words coming from her mouth. ”As for important people, the less the better. With the world as it is, treasured people will always be taken from you if you aren't careful. I can't let that happen, you have to understand. You're all I have, Xia."

”And you'll always be most important to me, sis!" Xia giggled innocently. ”We're sisters, so of course we'll always look out for each other!" She jumped from her chair, floating, and then wrapped Lux in an embrace, tender and loving. ”I'm sorry you have to give up for my sake so much, Lux. I'll pay you back one day!"

However, Lux herself had a different expression. And within seconds, Xia reverted to an infant, oblivious and happily giggling in a bundle of her own clothes. After all, Lux couldn't risk Xia finding out about this research project. She gave Xia a bottle with a sleeping agent mixed with the milk, then stepped into the elevator, heading down deep below the depths of the Lunar Citadel. Once she was at the bottom, Lux stepped out and was greeted by one of her scientists who had a grim expression. He saluted and lead Lux to Subject X05, a young child, female, with long disheveled brown hair, attached to some big complicated machine.

”How is X05?" Lux asked, staring emotionlessly in front of her. The scientist looked a little uneasy but went into a progress report. She absorbed the information, thinking. ”Up the dose, then run another test. See what happens."

"B-but, Queen Luxara, she's in severe pain and might not survive. This child is the closest we've had to success, we can't just-"

”Do it, Sterling." Lux smiled sweetly at the scientist and he walked off, panicked. Lux sighed, feeling pity and misery for this - sure, she was a child of one of the first politician to suggest selling Xia to Charon, all those years ago, but the child herself didn't deserve any of this. But it was necessary, now that she's gotten this far. After all, the girl, despite being human, hasn't aged a day over nine, ever since she was first captured by Lux during the revolution.

Lux didn't care what it took, she would find a way to keep Xia young and safe from the world's darkness forever. Even if she hated herself, even if she regretted starting the project and subjecting the child to this fate, if it worked, if the project succeeded, then Xia would never again be corrupted.

Hours later, Luxara returned to Xia, still asleep, and returned her to her rightful age, carefully bundling her into her chair. When the princess's eyes fluttered open, Lux forced all thought of the project from her mind, deluding herself into believing the lie wholeheartedly. ”Ah, I'm sorry the work is so boring for you, Xia." Lux said - and she already fooled herself into believing it. ”You can go and play if you'd like, there's no need to stay and help."

Xia shook her head, rubbing at her eyes apologetically. ”Why was I - ah, I'm sorry, sis! I'll do better! C'mon me, don't pass out!" And thus, administration for Nox Astra begun yet again.

After Xia left to go to the Penthisilea Hotel, Lux received a strange report that she didn't expect in the least. Well, two reports, though the first one was rather expected, in all honesty. The diplomacy meeting with Urara was a failure and apparently Reyna, the fox that helped fight the old Praetora was siding with the little runt of a ruler. Lux had an entertained little grin on her face as Xia sent her the mental image of Urara's belligerent face, zooming across the desert in a huff.

”She was always kinda weird, huh?" Xia's voice rang in Luxara's mind, an amused tone. ”I bet she's having fun somehow, even now..." Lux sensed a feeling of guilt that both sisters shared. Urara was an innocent through and through - she didn't deserve to have her life ruined. Honestly, the Queen of Nox Astra was half a mind to invite Ura as a noble and absorb New Praetora but she knew very well that the brat would never agree to cooperate. ”Fun is all she knows, isn't it?" So the sisters of the City of Night shared a little laugh and Luxara informed her diplomat to not worry about gaining New Praetora's assistance for the war against Styx for now. Honestly, Urara wasn't likely to be able to contribute all that much, anyways.

What was more concerning was the spy reports of a Styx raid on White City. This didn't even make the slightest amount of sense, and Xia agreed with her conclusion. Joshua was far too careful to just let someone from Styx into the city, and with his strange powers of voice, it was unlikely anyone in the city would even be able to try to rebel. This didn't make sense - so it had to be a lie, but of what, Luxara had no idea. She didn't want to call Josh and alert him of her suspicions, however.

Lux then turned to status reports of the Styx threat to the west. They were getting closer and closer, and it didn't seem as if Xia and that winged pervert were going to be able to head to the Fae haven yet - not with the amount of information they had. ”I'll go and talk to him, maybe we can form a kind of plan?" Luxara reluctantly agreed.

There was also the matter of the slavers - she didn't want anyone to have to suffer horrible lives just because they had the misfortune of being caught. So with a wry smile, Lux contacted her top generals on their radio channels. After all, they needed practice for the upcoming war. ”Alpha and Delta Squads, mobilize! We're going to hunt slavers at the Dustbowl Valley! All Squads on patrol duty, widen your range! We won't let them prey on innocents any longer!"

Now that Lux was at the Lunar Citadel, she had access to her own private Fear Chopper. Taking the elevator to the hangar, Lux entered the vehicle and revved the engine, an excited grin on her face.

”Don't use your time powers too much, okay?" Xia warned as she soared through the sky, heading towards the tall building in the Araghast District where the Penthisilea Hotel was, where her good friend Tommy was. With Lux heading off for battle, Xia was worried - her big sister had a tendency to use her powers and it costed her life for each use. Xia didn't like it, she wanted Lux to live as long as possible. But she knew that Xara had the right to live how she wanted, to choose her own path.

”Don't worry, Nata. It's just slavers, I doubt we'll have any trouble." That calmed Xia's worried heart as she flew, enjoying the currents and the breeze. If Luxara were ever to die... ”Oy, don't count me out so easily! We'll be a team for a long time, alright?"

”I hope so, Lux! Please don't ever leave me alone, okay?" The idea of being left alone as Lux died was a horrible one. It sent horrifying waves of sadness and misery through Xia's body just thinking about it. If Lux ever died and Xia was forced to be alone... the girl shivered, forcing the tears away.

Once at the hotel, Xia almost immediately slipped on a newly cleaned bit of floor in the incredibly fancy and opulent building, crashing onto her butt and moaning in pain. Why did this always happen, why was she always so clumsy? A staff member smiled warmly at her as Lux laughed madly in her head, and Xia - face red from embarrassment - got up and thanked the staff member before slipping again, dragging him down with her, sliding across the floor and smacking into the elevator.

Xia was incredibly graceful in the water, in the air. But on land she was basically useless trash. Tears brimmed in her eyes as Luxara sent her soothing emotions to try and ease the shame. Hopefully Tommy wouldn't see her like this. He would definitely laugh at her!

Having her legs nestled by Rey felt really nice, so Urara hugged her pet, her best friend as tightly as she could. "Ura has Rey-Rey!" Urara cheerfully chirped, ruffling her best friend's hair with a happy expression. They didn't need Mittens if Mittens wouldn't let them in to the oasis! Who needed Mittens when they had each other, anyways? Urara was happy with Rey and hopefully Reyna was just as happy in return! Ignoring the weird stitched man for the time being, Urara rubbed her face against Reyna's, making happy little mewling noises. She reached into her Adventure Pack when suddenly, Mr. Stitches spoke.

"Hmm? Yes, I'm Ura!" She made a peace sign at the man who decided to wake up. Her eyes ran up and down his body and Urara reached to pull one of the threads, giggling because it was funny and weird. "Your name is Mr. Stitches! Reyna, say hi to Mr. Stitches!' Seeing the man was probably thirsty, Urara dug a water bottle out of her pack and offered it to the man, before dangling a cookie in front of Reyna's face. "Reyna, you're such a good girl! Urara really loves you!" After scritching behind her fluffy ears, Urara gave her best friend the cookie.

Then Urara saw three helicopters flying overhead. She stared at it with anger burning in her eyes. She recognized that symbol, the moon and the lake. It was Nox Astra. Hatred burned in the child's eyes as she watched the helicopters fly past them.

Luxara was in the air in her own helicopter, scouring the desert. Behind her was the Alpha and Delta squads of helicopters, with her own vehicle at the lead. Nothing was quite so fun as hunting slavers who threatened the innocent people, the weak people, those evil scum! Latest reports placed their current base to be in the valley where she and White would eventually coordinate a counter-attack against Charon, so clearing it out for the time being was for the best, anyways. With the other squads widening their range, hopefully the slavers and bandits would be taken care of.

”Remember, don't get carried away!" Xia warned from the Penthisilea Hotel. ”Sis, you're amazing at war, but just be careful, okay? You can never be too careful!" Lux nodded, though her princess couldn't see it. ”Of course I'll be careful, Nata. Just have fun, okay?"

Xia knew better than to try to maintain a conversation during a battle, so Luxara sent encouraging, exciting emotions her way, still a little uneasy about her going to see Thomas, but knowing it was probably for the best, no matter how grudgingly she had to admit it. Already reports of battle were coming into the radio from some of the patrol squads - the slavers being easy picking from the air. One caravan of refugees fleeing from the outer villages saved and was currently being shipped to safety centers within Nox Astra for housing and security.

”Alpha, Delta, I'll take the lead!" Luxara increased the speed on her machine when she saw the Dustbowl on the radar and out the windows. She flew her copter low to the sand, whipping up dust around the rotors as she flew, Alpha and Delta providing support from above. Now that she was close enough to the ground to jump and land, Luxara opened the door upon the first of the slavers exiting from their base and opening fire. Lux did a flip and jumped out, pressing a button on a remote controller for her helicopter to enter automatic-fire mode, charging up electric bolts and demolishing the trucks - some with slavers inside as they tried to escape.

”You won't hurt any more innocents, ever again!" Luxara exclaimed as she dashed into battle, dual-wielding plasma rifles and dodging enemy fire left and right, returning fire, killing one here, another there, all with her sweetest smile on her face, eyes twinkling in delight. After a few minutes, the slavers were completely wiped out, and Lux giggled cheerfully to herself, pressing a button for her helicopter to return to the ground for her to climb back into. She had received one bullet wound due to carelessness, but it was of no consequence. Lux pulled out a knife and happily fished the shell out of her arm before reverting her body back by a few hours, the wound disappearing completely. The Queen of Nox Astra reached into her pocket, retrieving her radio and listened to other reports. Finally, she was satisfied. ”Mission complete!" She announced triumphantly. ”No casualties!"

The worst part was when Tommy came out of the opened elevator and looked almost amused at her sprawled body on the ground, with the staff member looking completely bewildered and slightly irritated. Tommy extended a hand after asking what she was doing there, and Xia's face burned with embarrassment. ”...I fell..." She admitted shyly, turning her face away, though she gladly took the hand to stand up. ”D-don't laugh! I really didn't mean to!" She fidgeted a little, unsure of how to really act with a friend, afraid her weirdness might turn him off. ”Um, I.. came to visit. Because I wanted to see you!" She didn't mind the water splashing onto her - water was second nature to her, after all.

When Tommy announced his plans to go to the pool, Xia's face brightened up, almost forgetting about the horrible way to greet her new friend. ”I'm always ready to swim!" The girl said happily, pulling the shoulder of her sweater down by a fraction to reveal the strap of her frilly bubble-themed bikini. She was a little nervous - Lux always said her body was childish and not yet developed, and usually Xia swam alone in the isolation of Lake Xiana. This would be the first time she ever showed her swimsuit to someone! But it was also a little exciting, even as Lux grumbled in the back of her mind.

”Hang on a moment, I need to pay for the day." Xia scampered her way to the front booth, pulling out her ID card. The woman at the desk nodded and added it to Lux's tab. With that dealt with, Xia dashed back to her winged friend, cheeks slightly red from the idea of him seeing her. ”U-um, do you have a swimsu - um, shorts, yet?"

Then her face reddened further as she yammered on awkwardly. ”I - um, I'm sorry I'm still not fully grown yet, Tommy! I'm not super pr-pretty or anything, but I - I hope I'm still fun to sw-swim with? Maybe? I -" Knowing she was only making it worse, Xia sighed, taking a deep breath. ”...I'm sorry. I'm weird, aren't I?"

Urara watched as the helicopters flew to what was probably a battle somewhere, teeth clenched in anger, eyes glowing just the slightest bit. Luxara ruined her life, ruined her entire family, and for what? What did she do to deserve this? Ura was sure that if she tried hard enough, if she kept trying to convince her mom, that if she kept begging and pleading, that she could've convinced her to change her mind and let Xia stay with everyone. Xia acted tough, acted like she was fine with the betrothal, but Ura and Lux both saw how scared she was, how much she cried when she thought she was alone. If Lux gave Ura more time, then maybe - no, definitely, she could've changed her mother's mind!

But Luxara attacked before she got the chance and Urayama's whole family was killed. She scritched Reyna's head gently, tearing her gaze away from wherever the helicopters were flying. "Thank you, Rey-Rey." Ura said softly. "But not yet. One day, we will fight the birds of Nox Astra, but for now, let's just have fun, okay?" She really loved her best friend, super much! Reyna made Ura feel super happy inside! "Because you're such a good girl, Ura has plenty more cookies back at home!"

She then turned her attention to Mr. Stitches who decided to speak again. When he decided to pledge his life to her, Urara grinned cheerfully. See? She would get victory, definitely! It'd just take... some time before she could actually get what she needed, but see? Because she was so fun, Urara would definitely win in the end. "Ura is happy that Stitches wants to join the team!" She was overflowing with happiness.

When Stitches said he wanted a place to wash up, Urara had to think for a moment. Right now, it was too dangerous to to simply return to New Praetora where the mean people lived. But White City was too expensive and Urara didn't feel like paying all of that money. But there was still Lake Xiana always readily available, even if it was super close to evil evil Nox Astra. So she leaned in, beckoning for Rey and Stitches to pay close attention. "We're going on a super secret spy mission in the place of evilness! The hated Nox Asra!" Urara puffed her chest out in triumph. "Yes! Stitches, there's a lake there where we can get you all cleaned up! Just close your eyes!" The child ruler then with her left hand touched Reyna's head, and her right hand on Stitches's face, she used her powers, eyes glowing, sending all three of them through the desert to the edge of the walled off lake, heavily guarded.

Urara stared at the wall in confusion. "...So, uh... Any plans? How do we sneak in?"

"Make... it stop...."

X05 sat in a room of pure white all around her, twitching uncontrollably and unknowingly as doctors watched from the glass window above. She was strapped and seated on a strange large machine that made loud, terrifying noises that meant the roaring and the pain was going to start again. Right now it was silent, though, so she was safe. She was safe for now, wasn't she? The machine was stuck into her spine, and had been there for so long that her skin regrew around the stabbing thing, and every time she moved she could feel the skin on her back threatening to rip and tear.

The last time Queen Luxara visited she did something weird to X05's body, making her rapidly grow and shrink and chopped off bits of her for them to come back and did it again and again and again
and again and over again and again and again and again and again even more. When her body stopped coming back Queen Lux said something about upping a dose and changed her body back by a few hours and did the whole thing over and over again.

X05 missed the old days before all of this. X05 missed playing with that swimming flying girl from ages past, that fiery girl that went super fast and always had fun. That was a strange time, a different time and X05 wondered why she still remembered it, why it was there, if it was ever even a thing, if there was a time without the roaring machine. That was impossible though, wasn't it? Wasn't it?

Always after each visit, Queen Luxara would cry and touch her cheek and be sad and full of regret and misery and self hatred. ”I'm sorry." Queen Luxara would say in a broken, weak voice. ”Subject X05, if there was any other way..."

X05 didn't want to forget the good time, the happier days. Before she was X05, before when she had a name. So every time Queen Luxara's visit was over X05 would make sure to say something.

"My... name is... Luna."

Every time it made Queen Luxara even sadder, crying harder and worse and X05 knew that for another long while, she still would not forget her name. X05 would hold onto that name, so she would never ever forget.

Mr. Scritches was weird, Reyna thought. Her tail was swishing as he sniffed him, he was standing now, having drained the water bottle and pledged his life to Master Urara. Reyna growled at this, "Reyna is Ura's, Ura doesn't need Mr. Scritches!" She didn't like the idea of someone else tagging along with them, but Urara seemed fine by his presence. She promised Reyna another cookie too, which calmed the fox girl down. Urara didn't think there was any need to eat the birds now either and since Master was calm, Reyna was calm. Her tail still swished though, she loved being praised. Yes, Reyna was a good girl! Reyna was a very good girl!

"Secret mission?" Reyna asked, getting to her feet. "Reyna is very good at those!" She sat back down, an ear flopping over adorably. "Reyna wants to know what a super secret spy mission is." There was no answer though, Ura took her hand, making Reyna stands on twos and shot them off in a new direction. They were shot off quickly, a giant lake before them. When Reyna let go of Urara's hand, Reyna fell onto her behind. "Reyna is dizzy," her head was spinning and she tried to make it stop by putting both hands on her head, but that didn't work. When her head ceased its back flipping, Reyna stood on fours once more, sniffing around the area. "Reyna says it's safe Master," she came bounding back over to Urara, looking for praise.

Reyna was a good girl, yes she was. It wasn't the same when she praised herself though. She wanted Urara to praise her again, it felt good when Urara said she was a good girl. Reyna looked into the lake, seeing her reflection. She jumped, yipping, and hit her reflection with her hands, getting her clothes wet. Her reflection rippled and she howled in delight. On the oasis, water was her main source of entertainment. "Master come! Reyna wants to show Urara a game!" Reyna ran back to Urara, wriggling in anticipation, the bell on her collar ringing with each step she took.

Urara stared at the wide open lake with the walls surrounding it. She'd bulleted them over the walls and into the lake area itself, enjoying the sound of the water and the swirl of the fog in the far distance. At her side was Reyna, being super awesome and adorable and the best thing ever - though it'd be nice if she wanted to be friends with Stitches, too! Stitches was an official member of the glorious New Praetorian army, of course! Reyna would be one of her top generals and Stitches would be too, maybe? The child ruler sensed strangeness from Stitches but couldn't determine exactly what it was other than being part demon. She shrugged, not caring too much - because it was super secret spy time! The guard stationed at the walls were facing outwards so they were probably safe since they were already inside, right?

”A super spy mission is when we sneak into a place and get information and have cool music in the background to make us cooler!" Urara exclaimed excitedly, petting her best friend's head. ”And and if we kill someone we get to have a cool line! Like, like, 'This is Ra. Urara.' and bonk their hearts out! Doesn't that sound fun?!" Then Reyna walked to the lake's shore, seemingly interested, mentioning something about a game. Games were fun! Urara really liked the idea of playing a game. First, however, was getting Stitches cleaned up, so Urara kicked him into the lake. ”Wash up!" She said cheerfully then followed Reyna, excitement glowing in her eyes. ”You're such a good girl, Rey-Rey!" The child ruler giggled. ”Can you show Ura the game? Is it super fun? It is, right? Right?"

Reyna mewled in delight, her body quivering in pleasure, tail wagging as Urara scritched behind her ears. It was a feeling she couldn't resist and made the fox practically melt into a pile of delight. She was hardly listening to Urara's explanation of a super spy, she was too busy focusing on the scritches. "Yes, Reyna is a very good girl!" She agreed, practically purring. "Reyna would like to kill," she had heard that part. It had been years since she had stabbed someone, hearing their cries of pain and begs for mercy. She remembered tearing down cities, how people would flee in every direction, avoiding Reyna completely. Cowards, it's like they were afraid to get scratched or bitten. "Reyna admits it's tempting." She replied, ears twitching as she suddenly sneezed. Then Urara wanted to see the game.

"This way Master!" Reyna beckoned her over to the lake and looked inside of it. "Master looks at her image and then, she jumps!" Reyna showed it to Urara. How you looked for your reflection and then jumped on it, waiting for the water to cease its rippling before take another leap. "Is Master having fun!" Reyna asked, bounding up to the girl after a few minutes, stepping on both of their reflections.

Watching Reyna jump into the water, splattering her own reflection everywhere made Urara giggle gleefully. Sure, she understood the whole thing and didn't reaally see how it was super fun, but the expression and the joy on the Fox's face made it so that it was fun anyways! Urara stared at her own reflection, faintly wondering if her mother looked the same, years ago, and if she was just as weak as she was now. Thoughts of if she could meet her mother's legacy and make Praetora super big and strong again, but also doubts because she was so weak compared to Nox and White and stuff and then she decided that thinking about this stuff made her head hurt and was boring, so the red haired girl hopped into the water, letting out a yelp as the water was much, much colder than she expected it to be, and, surprisingly, it actually was fun! Urara splashed her way to the dog girl and hugged her closely. ”This is super fun!" Urara squealed. ”How did Rey-Rey discover this? Rey's such a good girl, a smart girl, aren't you? Yes you are, here, have a coo-"

Oh, she forgot to take off her Adventure Pack and now her cookies were ruined. Well, that was sad and dumb! Urara stared at it wistfully then shot the Adventure Pack away then scritched Reyna's hair again. ”Have a cookie once we get back home after this super secret mission!"

Reyna was having so much fun with Urara. "Reyna is very glad tha Urara is happy!" Reyna sing songed and continued puddle jumping. "Reyna will do the secret mission with Urara, as long as Urara gives Reyna lots of scritches!" She was still hopping around in the water, distracted by her reflection. Her clothes were soaked, but Reyna didn't seem to care. "Um, Reyna wants to know what is the super secret mission?'

The child ruler bent down to scritch Reyna more and more with a wide smile on her face. Reyna really was her best friend, the reason she felt so happy the last two days! It was so lucky that they met, wasn't it? It was awesome that they met, right? ”As many scritches as Rey-Rey wants!" Urara giggled, splashing around in the water herself, waving her hand in the water to spray Reyna with water, a playful shine in her eyes. But, of course, it couldn't all be fun and games, right? ”So! The super secret spy mission!" Details formed in the girl's mind when-

”Super secret spy mission, hmm? In my city?" All of a sudden two things happened at once - a helicopter manifested right beside them, bearing that hated insignia of a moon and a lake, and worst of all was Lux, the traitor, the betrayer, standing behind Ura, Rey, and Stitches with two plasma rifles in hand, a pleasant smile on her face belying her true disgusting nature. Hatred flared up in Urara's chest and she stared at the enemy, the one who ruined her life and destroyed everything. This was the perfect opportunity for revenge, wasn't it? This was - this was the day she was waiting for, right? Urara placed a hand on Reyna's shoulder.

”This is the super secret mission!" Urara shouted, eyes glowing uncontrollably. ”We kill her!" Ignoring the widening grin on Luxara's face, Urara shot Reyna towards her with the power of a bullet.

Reyna was practically bouncing in anticipation of what the mission could be. When Urara scratched her ears though, she seemed to calm, her tail swishing eagerly. Reyna loved scritches, it was most likely her weakness. A terrible sound came from overhead, reminding Reyna of the brewing of sand storms, how the wind would whistle and whip around, strong enough to cut through skin like deadly knives. When the helicopter landed and the new threat appeared, Reyna growled. "Can Reyna eat the birds now?" She asked, looking up at Urara. "Reyna will eat them!" She bent into what almost looked like the beginning of a runner's stance. Urara had given Reyna permission to kill and she was excited.

She waited for it, the shooting, when it came, she turned into a deadly weapon of claws and teeth, spinning in the air, shooting right at their enemy. A grin was spread wide on her face, she could hardly wait to bite, to taste flesh and blood and crush bone with her teeth like she had to the slavers.

Lux's eyes seemed to shine with recognition and her clock eye started spinning, time stopping - and it was a good thing she did, as Reyna was literally inches away from her. A moment later and she would have definitely died. Wasn't this the same fox as the one from years ago? And... why hadn't she aged at all? Luxara easily stepped to the side, behind the fox girl, a grin on her face. She then grabbed the girl's arms, bringing Reyna into the time stop and pinned her arms behind her in a choke hold, where hopefully the fox would be immobilized. ”How very intriguing!" Luxara smirked coldly. ”It's been a while, hasn't it? So, tell me - why do you still look the same as years ago, when you destroyed Praetora?"

Reyna didn't understand, one minute she had been flying, about to tear the woman's face off, the next she was being spun around, suddenly unable to breathe. Reyna tried to scratch the woman, but she was holding the fox in a position where she was nearly immobile, only her feet able to kick. "Reyna has no idea what you're talking about!" She hissed, trying to use her teeth to bite. It wasn't any fun if the enemy didn't leave with at least a few broken bones. "Reyna has been with Mr. Mittens until Urara found her!" Reyna mewled in frustration, her ears twitching madly as she tried to wriggle out.

Luxara sighed, knowing it probably wasn't going to be this easy to figure out a way to stop Xia from aging for all eternity. So, with time still stopped, she moved with her struggling hostage closer to the lake, then shoved the fox's head into the water, holding it there for a short while. Once she deemed it was enough she released the fox with a pleasant giggle and a laugh. ”Okay, I'm going to ask you again." She said, gleaming. ”Why do you still look the same? What did you do, Reyna? You see, this is something I must know." Her grip tightened and she showed Reyna to the water again. ”So please, I don't want to have to hurt you!"

Reyna continued in her struggle while Luxara carried her over to the lake. "Let go of Reyna!" She screamed as suddenly her head was plunged beneath the water. Reyna bubbled, choking as water went up her nose and into her mouth. Her limbs would have been flailing had Lux not been holding them down. Then she was up again, coughing up water and whatever else she had swallowed. "Reyna doesn't understand!" She growled, "Reyna has been with Mr. Mittens!"

While Lux really wanted to continue the interrogation - she needed this information, after all - she couldn't keep up the timestop for much longer. With a reluctant sigh she dropped the fox at her feet, aiming her gun in front of her, at the child ruler that seemed to have something or other planned. Was a war beginning between New Praetora and Nox Astra? Was Urara really that idiotic to try? She returned time to normal, aiming a kick into the Fox's side as Urara blinked, confused, trying to figure out exactly what happened and why things were like that. Then Urara's eyes glowed in fury as she saw her best friend being hurt. She shot herself at Lux, knife out, only for Lux to disappear and reappear behind her, slamming her gun down on the back of Urara's head, making her feel dizzy and weak and pained. ”I'll kill you!" Urara hissed, eyes glowing again. ”You hurt Rey-Rey, and you killed my family! I hate you! I'll never forgive you!"

Luxara gave her an amused little smile, as if entertained, easily avoiding another bullet knife attack using time stop, whacking Urara hard with her gun, making the girl collapse to her knees from the pain. ”Wow, you really are weak!" Luxara said pleasantly. ”So weak compared to your mother, you can't even protect your dear friend!" The child ruler glanced at Reyna, tearing up and she shot herself at her, hugging her closely. ”D-don't hurt her! Rey-Rey is my best friend! She's a good girl, so don't touch her!"

When time unfroze, her head was spinning. Lux ddropped her, threatening Urara. Reyna spluttered as the rest of the water exited her lungs when suddenly a kick to the side sent her flying into a tree, the girl curling up on her side, tail no longer swishing. She was breathing hard, one eye open, the other closed as she tried to focus. "D.... Don't h-hurt," she stopped to take in a breath, "Master!" Reyna got to her feet, her legs all wobbly. She was about to attack Lux again when Urara shot herself over, hugging Reyna tightly and praising her. "Reyna will protect Master," Reyna growled at the woman, wanting to get another shot at killing her.

"Reyna will kill anyone who threatens Master Ura!" If not for Urara's hug, Reyna would have been trying to slash Lux to ribbons.

Luxara rolled her eyes, doing her best to ignore the mounting headache, but ready to freeze time again just in case. It seemed Urara was too tired to keep fighting, though, and she was holding the Fox down quite well, wasn't she? ”I could easily kill you both." The Queen of Nox said brightly, gesturing at her gun. ”But, there are more important things. There's an extremely powerful enemy approaching from the West, you see." Her eyes seemed to glow as Urara shivered and hugged the fox, whispering apologies for being such a bad master. ”Why not work together to defeat Charon? And after that, if you still want revenge, I'll let you try again."

The child ruler was angry, she was super angry, but she didn't want Rey-Rey to keep being hurt, and she knew she was too weak to help, to try and do anything. ”Urara will never team up with you, you traitor!" She shot herself into the lake, retrieving Mr. Stitches and shot her knife at Lux before grabbing Reyna and taking the three of them far, far away, super far away until they were somewhere else, anywhere else - a strange giant fortress city sitting on top of a lake. The city of super technology! They were at Babylon. Urara fell to her knees and hugged Rey-Rey harder, crying and sniveling. ”Ura is sorry, Ura's such a bad master! I'll try harder, I'll be better, please forgive me, Rey-Rey..."

Reyna wanted to kill the woman, but Urara wouldn't let her. She was itching for a fight, balystic at the fact that she wasn't allowed to kill the woman. "Reyna will hurt anyone who tries to hurt Master!" She growled, fur on ends as they were suddenly shot to somewhere else. Reyna was confused by the crying, was this something people did? "Ura, Reyna is worried. There is water coming from Master's eyes," She whimpered, tail curling around her sitting form as Urara hugged her. Reyna hesitated, gently patting Urara's head. "Master is a good girl," she smiled, already forgetting about the incident.

Urara wiped at her eyes, releasing Reyna from the hug, sniffling. ”Ura's sorry, um. This is when, when Urara is sad she cries, and she's sad because you got hurt! I'm the master, I should have kept you safe!" Urara took a deep breath, forcing herself to feel better and feel stronger, standing up to her full miniature height. ”Thank you for staying with me, Rey-Rey!" She enjoyed being called a good girl, it made her feel strange things, whispers of a mother long past echoing in her mind. She called her that, ages ago, didn't she? ”Ura will do better! We'll be a super strong team, and we'll kill her together!" Then her belly rumbled. Urara was hungry! ”Let's find something to eat! There's - there's a whole lotta fun stuff in Babylon! Does Rey-Rey like fish? Bablyon has lots of fish stuff!"

She was excited to show her best friend the sights of the other lake city, to distract her mind from failing to get revenge on the traitor that ruined everything!

And just like that, Urara, Reyna, and that strange man with the stitches disappeared, and Lux heard a sigh from her little sister in her head, admonishing her for fighting in the first place. ”They weren't a threat, not really...!" Xia insisted, sounding unhappy. ”Next time, let me talk to Ura, okay?" Lux was mildly impressed that the red-haired girl had the mental capacity for something other than fun for once, though was still sad about Reyna escaping, though she already deluded herself into forgetting exactly why she needed the fox girl so badly so Xia couldn't use her telepathy to figure out about X05.

”I don't think she'll listen to you, either, Nata." Queen Luxara thought, somewhat regretting her honesty when she felt Xia's disappointment and sadness leak through. The two were friends before everything went horrible, after all, so it made sense. It was also probably the only reason Lux didn't actually kill them for trespassing. It was silly for Xianata to worry about such things, however - she did have a new... a new friend to entertain. Why exactly did Lux even allow Xia to have such a... revealing...

”I don't... mind if he looks..." Was Xia's meek thought and the elder sister felt a plethora of emotions rush through her chest, none of them pleasant. Xia was too cute to be seen in such a state, to have so much of her skin exposed for that lecherous bird freak that happily went to such in-in-indecent places such as a br-brothel! ”You're far too young to be falling in love, Nata! And he's much too old for someone like you! You don't need romance, they'll just-"

Then Lux sensed hesitation from her little sister, so she fell silent with her thoughts, though an ill omen was growing within. ”Xara, I'm... not a little kid anymore! I can... I bet other girls are falling in love at my age too!" Was this Xia's rebellious stage? Lux's grip tightened on her plasma rifle, teeth clenching. ”A-a-and he called me beautiful s-so - I'm growing up, okay, stop being so overprotective!"

Luxara didn't have any good response to that, but the guard captain of the lake was sprinting towards her, so she didn't have time to continue the argument. Forcing emotion out of her mind, Luxara began the stern but forgiving lecture on the lax security around the lake as the guard captain kneeled and apologized with desperation. The whole mess with Urara didn't bother her anymore - there was a much larger, winged threat that she didn't even have the mercy of killing.

With Lux temporarily forced to handle city affairs, Xia knew she'd have some peace for the time being, though it wouldn't last. What was happening, though, the princess wondered. Never before had she really... rebelled against Lux - or really, rebelled against anyone for that matter. Even in terms of Charon, Xia merely accepted her duties, knowing she was simply a political pawn and that her sacrifice would save many lives. How many people risked their lives for her sake? How many people died for her sake?

She blushed heavily at Tommy's compliment and watched him in the pool as she sat at the edge dealing with her silly big sister. Tommy, someone cool and friendly and old and handsome like Tommy called her beautiful? Even though she was only - well, she had time to grow! Yeah, Xia definitely could become truly pretty, maybe even voluptuous and curvy like those other women! That idea appealed to her greatly and she was more than ready to grow out of her childlike body. The wings really did look awkward as he swam, though, and Xia wondered if maybe Tom felt a little uncomfortable? Did he prefer flying?

Xia dove into the water, legs flapping together like a tail to catch up to her new friend. ”I-I'm... not a kid, right?" Xia asked in a quiet, mumbling voice. ”It's okay for me to... want to grow up? Right, Tommy?" The girl sighed a little, then ducked under the water and did a little flip before resurfacing, loving the exhilaration of absorbing oxygen through her skin. ”Is it... is it selfish to want things of my own when I still owe others a lot?" The girl looked troubled, conflicted. She wanted to be free and to do as she wanted, but she also felt responsibility, a desire to live her life for those who helped her in the past, and both ideals were struggling with one another, neither stronger.

”U-uhm... sorry for the... weird question.." Xia turned her face away, cheeks red again. ”So, uh, are you having fun? Do you want anything to drink?"

Aretha and Origin seemed to be enjoying themselves, so Xia turned her attention back to Tommy, wanting to know more about how to become an adult, how to grow up. Thomas was cool and he seemed to know a lot of things she still didn't, like a wellspring of wisdom that flew into her lap. She nodded at appropriate times, listening carefully to her avian friend's words. His eyes seemed to glow joyously as he spoke of his dream, of becoming a pirate and flying the skies with an airship.

”No, you can't go and be a pirate." Lux's voice was sharp in her head, full of disapproval. ”Nata, he's bad news, seriously. We've almost starved because of bandits before. Not good people, don't be fooled."

Xia tried to picture Tommy hurting people, raiding and stealing and killing innocent civilians and children but she had trouble imagining it. Tommy was so nice to her, so gentle to her, how could he possibly hurt anyone? But then Xia remembered the shooting lesson with the gun - he did know how to use it, after all. Could it be that Tommy did hurt people? ”But he's so nice to me." She replied mentally, and her big sister once again transmitted disapproval and annoyance.

”Ask him, then. Ask if he hurts and steals from people who work hard for what they get in order to survive. Then you'll see."

The Princess relayed the information gathered of the Fae back to Lux who seemingly filed it into the document that had all the known details and rumors concerning the mysterious nation, grateful to Tommy for telling her but also wondering if he did hurt people. Xia was particularly impressed by the floating island magic springs - they would certainly be a sight to see!

”Tommy, if you're a bandit, does that mean you steal food from people who are starving?" She asked inquisitively, hoping he would give her a good answer. ”You're a good bandit, right? Not a bad one?"
