"Humans! Where? Do they actually exist?!"

a character in “Discoveries at Maziah island!”, as played by The*Lucky*Teacup

Description

Image

Name:

Gilidian "Gil" Usophia
Image
Upperbody appearance

Age:

17

Gender:

Male

Appearance:

Gil is a strong bodied man. He has quite a muscly torso and is a strong swimmer, swift when moving with his glossy blue mermaid tail with little tints of green along it. Gil is a blonde haired beauty, really quite handsome -though compared to a lot of other mer-men, Gil wouldn't compare. He has big blue eyes with a green flare around the pupils and when Gil looks at you, you can see in his eyes that he's always listening, always concentrating. Gilidian's expressions are always kind, and are never mean. Even when sad, he doesn't look angry. Just soft and sad. The mark on his chest is the symbol of the Usophia family. It's simply a mark of who he is.

Sexuality:

Bisexual

Species:

Merman

Likes:

  • exploring
  • Coming as close to the shore of the beach as he can.
  • Making new friends
  • Shells, crustations, and small cute sea creatures.
  • The supernatural (things that are different and new to him e.g. Humans)

Dislikes:

  • Friends telling him not to go above the surface
  • Being told bad things about the humans
  • Being told he has to marry someone
  • The giant octopus'

Personality:

Gil is a very kind and sweet guy. He loves swimming around the watery world, playing about with others and having a laugh. He's a bit of a child when it comes to doing work, as he's lately being told that he needs to find a mermaid to marry and start a family with. He doesn't wish to do this, and loves to just swim around and find out new things. Lately he's been going up to the surface more often though. He doesn't go that close to the shore, but he loves the feel of the cool breeze above the waves and the sound of birds yacking away at each other. He's tried to get closer to the shore of the island a lot, as he's intregued by the stories of humans that live there. Gil is certainly very nosy and curious of the things he does not know. But, you know what they say. Curiosity killed the cat... Gil isn't one to complain and is very considerate to others, though is a little bit of a coward when it comes to things attacking. More often than not, Gil will simply try to make a speedy escape, not wanting to get involved in anything violent. He's not one to believe in that kind of thing.
Image
Tail Appearance

Strengths:

  • He's a swift swimmer -handy when swimming away from predators and creatures trying to hurt him
  • He's extremely kind - It's good for when he's communicating with others. It helps to get him more friends and less enemies.
  • Open minded - To things that are strange and bizzare, he won't reject them, but more adapt with them.

Weaknesses:

  • He's a bit of a coward - It makes sticking up for himself or others a bit of trouble as he can't get the guts to do anything.
  • Doesn't want to act mature - Problems can occur when he's dealt with a very tense situation.
  • He has a weak spot on the center of his back - If it's hit, extreme pain will shoot up and down his spine and he won't move unable to move or make very clear speech. It lasts for about thirty seconds. He calls it his 'danger point'.

History/Background:

Gil has always lived in his underwater city, living with a mother, father, and a younger pair of twin sisters. His family is quite a portion bigger, but they're all a lot older and have moved on, living with their own partners. Gilidian was raised, encouraged to live like the rest of his family. To grow up, to find a girlfriend, marry, have children and find work. It's something that hasn't always appealed to Gil. He's been asked on a date by many girls, and boys, and none have seemed to make him all that... in love. He soon went out one day after school, hearing a young dolphin squealing and swimming out to it, finding it stuck in a trapped left out for the merpeople who eat meat. Panicking, Gil released the dolphin and then watched it swim away. Being the curious boy he is, he swam out after the dolphin and found out where it was going. It was that day that Gil discovered a whole family of dolphins and went swimming with them. In that same day however, he accidentally went above the surface after jumping out of the water with them and felt all the things of the surface. The cool breeze, the sound of birds, the 'trees' that stood around the island, the island itself! Everything was amazing, and Gil was fascinated by it.

However, after going back to his parents and telling them of his day, he was scolded and told that there were humans that lived on that island who were mean and carried around sharp weapons called, 'Knives and forks' and also instead of having fish tails, they walked around on two fleshy tentacles called 'legs'. Although Gil should've been frightened, it just made him more intregued, and he wanted to find out more. He discovered more things about the ocean, collecting shells in a satchel and going to the surface more or less every day. There was one occasion when a bird thought he was just a really big fish and trie to attack him, which is how he's now got his danger point, but otherwise, no harm has ever been done. Every day, he's ventured closer and closer to the shore, wishing to spot one of these humans and see them through his own eyes. Gil doesn't realise what danger he could really be in, but it's one of the things he'd never seen as dangerous. It wasn't like they were trying to hurt him...

So begins...

Wave, after wave, after wave crashes onto the bank of the sandy shore, the gentle splashing and rippling surrounding the small island with the soothing noises of the ocean. The big blue beauty. The thing my bonny lies over. Although the surface may seem quiet and peaceful, it is far from it deep below. Go past the salty surface and it's misty window of rippling water, and dive way way down. At first it just seems like seaweed. Gentle crustaceans, shellfish and seaweed. Again, all seems peaceful, and calm. The depths of the waters seem safe and warm. Creatures begin to relax as small creatures watch a hermit crab wander along the seabed, about to let themselves relax, when suddenly, a school of fish scurry past, panicky and late for getting back to their anemone's as it begins to dawn on them that a great white whale could pass any second. Bubbles ripple upwards and around the speedy flapping of their fins and tails, their bulgy eyes seeming wider than normal.

The other creatures soon wake up too, hearing the squeaks and laughs of the happy dolphins arising to a new day. Suddenly, sea-horses, krill, plankton, rainbow fish, anything you could ever think of are rushing back to their homes, looking for somewhere to hide from the larger creatures of the deep. Great, jaw-dropping creatures, swimming and diving about here, there and everywhere. The smaller, prey of the waters, travel further and further, anxious about what lurks behind them, as if the jaws theme is running through their small heads, but then, their views change. Instead of endless hills of sandy mountains and blue water waves, they come upon a deeper underwater city. Homes made from the hardest materials they could find under the water and creating underwater homes from a race of sea creatures that stick together. This is the home of the merfolk. A place where everyone feels safe and civilized, much like any city above the surface. They swim around, gossiping, playing, laughing, chatting, and living. This is where they live, and where they populate.

A small seahorse entered the city and dove down, not even knowing where it was going. It was a child in a panic, having lost track of where it's parents were, it was making little noises as if crying. It looked around in a fluster, before two hands cupped around the gentle creature, trapping the seahorse within it's palms. "Gotcha!" said the voice, smiling as he peeked through his fingers. He hushed the panicking seahorse. "It's okay little fella, I'm not gonna hurt you." The blue eyed seventeen year old gently opened his hands so that the fish wouldn't be trapped in the darkness of his fingers, but kept his cupped hands to his chest as he swum towards where the school of fish were going, and opening his hands towards where the sea-horse's were travelling. "That's where you're meant to be. I'm sure you wouldn't want to live with us in our big scary home." The boy laughed gently, watching the seahorse cheerfully chase after the rest of it's kind, making small high-pitched neigh's of joy. The boy smiled gently at the schools of fish before falling backwards and floating on his back a little, long blue tail flapping gently behind him. "Gilidian Usophia, saviour of cute little fish... Doesn't exactly sound majestic, does it?" Gil mused to himself, before hearing the chirps and cheers of the dolphins nearby. Gil turned, grinning at the sight he saw. About 7 dolphins, all making their way to the surface to swim up and jump out of the water. The blonde grinned, his hair gently shifting with each gentle movement he made. He looked to the city of merfolk and then looked back up to the dolphins. "I wouldn't have been doing anything worthwhile anyway..." He commented, before darting up towards the dolphin's and the surface to actually enjoy himself and swim at the one place where he felt the exhilaration soak into his watery skin.

"REYYYYTOOON!"

Gil paused in his tracks at the loud yelling of a strange name he hadn't heard before. Reeeyyyytooon? That's a long name... Gilidian looked around curiously at the source of the noise, before seeing the dolphins seeming to retreat from the surface at the loudness of it. To him it wasn't exactly that loud, but he himself was far away from the source. Gil waited. And waited. And waited...

He began to twitch, twiddling his thumbs together to try and distract himself before he let out a distressed sigh. Oh Screw it! Gil cautiously lifted up higher and higher to the roof of the ocean, swallowing a gulp in slight fear before his eyes peered up out of the water, looking in the distance to see closer to the shore, there seemed to be a boy... with odd materials on his body. Does he realize how dangerous it is to be that close to the shore? Even I know that's pushing it... Gil lowered slightly, heading towards him, but then instead of seeing a tail below him, he saw... Gil's eyes widened and he fell back holding a hand to his mouth. "No... surely not... I must just be half-asleep still... that's all it is..." All the same, Gilidian hovered there, tail swaying side to side gently as he stared wide eyed at the boys two fleshy and rock hard tentacles. It was bizarre. Something he had never seen before. His stomach was twisting and turning. What if the stories about them are true? The thought merely made his interests grow.

Rey swam around, and at hearing her brother, dove deeper into the water. She swam up next to the dolphins, swimming around them, eyes wide open. She saw a flash of blonde, hiding behind some coral, and swam toward it. Then, she heard her name being screamed. She broke the surface, pulling herself up on one of the rocks out a bit further.

"There you are you little snot! Why did you swim past me this morning? I didn't even think you knew what 'before 9 am' was, Aly boy!" She joked, flipping her long, soaking wet hair over her shoulder. "Hey, do I look like Ariel from the little mermaid?" She asked at a seemingly perfect time as a wave crashed behind her.

"We should wake up Liam and Nora, there's something weird down here. The dolphins are being funny again. Like, staying in as shallow water as possible," Rey said, reaching back and fish tail braiding her hair quickly.

lThere's two?! Oh holy cod... he spotted the two legs that were facing the legs distantly and bit his lip. Were they... Were they actuall humans? It was simply a myth, wasn't it? Like everyone else believed, humans don't exist, just appear in fairytales. But this is no fairytale... They don't even have tails!

Gilidian turned and realised that the dolphins were staying quite close to him in a more shallower area of the water. The one human didn't seem to be harming them, so they must've met them before. "Why didn't you tell me this before?" Gil asked a dolphin that pressed its nose against his hand. It started making loud squeaking noises in response and Gil quickly held its mouth together, looking up to the humans but not wanting to take any chances. He began to swim further from the shore, a little bit, the dolphin's following quite close behind, but then Gil stopped and took another look at the human legs. "I must be dreaming..." some of the dolphins stayed next to him, but Gil's attention was stuck on the two legs in the water.

Rey swam to shore, running up to each of them. "Either Alex can be in two places at once or our government supply ship decided to send someone to play a little trick on us. I saw something in the water, I swear!" She said, looking at all three of them in turn. "Something....I don't know how to even say this without sounding completely crazy....something with a human torso and a tail," She looked at her friends, the people she had grown up with, and waited for them to mock her.

"Before you mock me, the dolphins were acting funny, again. They were following something, and I'm prepared to find out what. Join me if you want to," She lowered her voice in case on of the parents were awake. "I stole 4 of the breathing devices. They're inside my pillow. You guys really have to see this. I mean, I saw a ship on the horizon yesterday morning, but it was still way to far off to have gotten here today," She looked at them again.

"I'm not crazy," Rey said, looking back to the water. "Something is out there,"

Marina De la Costa

Swimming around, Marina looked down to see a red and strange looking seashell. She smiled picking it up, she always had a facination with shells. She started to swim again seeing a school a fish pass her. When she joined them. She could see the water getting lighter and lighter meaning she was getting closer to the surface. A fear of hers, the unknown she only went above the water once and somehow her parents found out getting her in trouble for a while. She went deeper as she saw the fish keep going. "Great." She looked around seeing someone under the water a little too close to the shore for her taste, it was quite far to any logical mermaid but Marina wasn't logical near the shore.

She swam up to them seeing the blonde hair knowing exactly who it is. Gilidian, you are going to get in trouble. Will you just please come back to town with me? Before--" She looked and saw something in the water. She squented her eyes before hiding behind Gil. She looked at the feet and could feel herself shaking. Her parents said they were dangerous, all of them and she didn't want to meet them to find out if that was true. She dropped her shell. "This can't be real." She tried to talk but nothing came out. "Y--you see them too right?" She was hoping she was just imagining things for once. There's a first time for everything anyway, yup. She was going to hold on to that.

"Yeah... I see them..." Gil was still awe-strucked by the sight of human legs. He didn't even turn back to see who it was who had come to try and make him go back. He knew it was Marina anyway. Gil felt her trembles against his back and finally glanced back at her when he realised she was stuttering. He gently took her by the hand and lead her down behind a boulder, the dolphins that were still following coming not long after. "Look maybe if you're scared, you should go back to town." Gil commented, gently releasing her hand. "I really wanna see the humans. And besides, if they get too close, we'll just swim away. Surely they can't be as quick as us." he smiled at her a little, his tail stroking hers slightly. "But I can understand if you wanna go." he leant forwards and hugged her. "I would just go soon if you do though. We'll be in deep doo doo if they find home and follow you there." he pulled away and peeked around the rock, seeing the human legs enter again. The dolphins kept on circling the boulder so grey blubber got in the way every so often. But he could still see them.

"Yeah... I see them..." She exhaled. When Gil looked back at her and grabbed her hand, she could feel herself turning a bit red. She wasn't big on contact with others, but Gil was a friend. Why should it feel awkward? They went behind a boulder, where he let go of her hand. "Look maybe if you're scared, you should go back to town." She looked down. She started to think if she should and act like she didn't see anything. She swallowed a lump in her throat. "I really wanna see the humans. And besides, if they get too close, we'll just swim away. Surely they can't be as quick as us." He was always interested in the myth of humans and she wasn't about to make him disapointed by making him go back home. But, should she? "But I can understand if you wanna go." When he hugged her she out hr arms around him before letting go.

I would just go soon if you do though. We'll be in deep doo doo if they find home and follow you there." When he looked back around the rock. She exhaled knowing either way it was a bad idea. If she left him alone, what would happen to him? She didn't have any friends and she didn't want to loss one. "I am going to regert this. Fine, but i'm staying with you. But, keep in mind what our parents told us about them." She looked back at the feet and sarted to calm down. She looked back at Gil and smiled. "One sign of danger and we swim away, got it?"

"Psht, what our parents told us is a load of bull." Gil responded with a grin, looking to Marina with a smile in return. "Okay. Danger, swim away." he smiled at her warmly, letting out a small laugh at how he'd managed to convince her again, and then looked back over the rock, he could see one of the humans dive down and look seriously amazed. However, there was something else that was catching Gil's attention. "What's that thing in its mouth?" Gil asked Rina, making a gesture to the breather that excreted bubbles every so often. it looked like a black mouthpiece with two black air bags attached to the sides. He looked gob-smacked by it and looked to Rina. "Do you think that thing could actually be its mouth?" he asked, a little bit freaked out by it. "It looks like it's should be on a machine..."

Nora~

Nora could feel the water push against her. She closed her eyed for a long while, then slowly but surely removed the breather from her mouth. It felt uncomfortable. She had never liked the things, but had worn them only to satisfy her parents, and now Rey. But seeing that no one could see her under, she removed it, then contined to swim around a moment more, before rising to the top for air.

She always had a sad feeling when leaving the underwater world. It just felt so nice, so perfect. If mermaids did exist, she had decided long ago, that they were extremely lucky. Her eyes lay on the group now, looking for any sort of clue as to what to do next.

Marina looked around to make sure no one was around, her parents weren't.... fans of her hanging out with Gil or any of her other friends who seemed like troublemakers. She looked back at him and breathed in and out. "Psht, what our parents told us is a load of bull." She shruged, they wee wrong that there was no such thing as humans. What else could they be wrong about? "Okay. Danger, swim away." Yea, but danger to him and danger to her were two different things. Danger to her was them coming even an inch closer to her. "For some reason, I think we're going to do scale it on your danger scale and not mine."] When he looked over the rock she did th same and sqented her eyes.

"What's that thing in its mouth?" She raised an eyebrow. The thing was strange. "Do you think that thing could actually be its mouth?"[/i] She looked at it a bit more before tiliting her head. "Maybe, It-- "It looks like it's should be on a machine..." She pointed a finger at him and grinned. Exactly, it-- Wait, no it's not their mouth that one just took it out." She said as she pointed to Nora before she went up.

Gilidian smiled a little, tilting his head at the girl who went up. "I wonder what that thing does..." He looked to Marina and then neared closer to her. "Hey, you realize we'd get in big trouble if our folks found us here." Gil said to her softly, tilting his head. It made him slightly curious, knowing she didn't like to upset people. Especially her parents and family. "This seems like a... huge jump for you." He nudged her gently, tail scraping past hers a little. He glanced back to the humans to see if they were doing anything of interest again, and when they weren't, he turned back to Marina. "Like you said, our danger scales are different. And right now, I bet your danger senses are going way over maximum level." He smiled gently to her, curious but comforting.

"I wonder what that thing does..." She started to think. "Hm, maybe it helps them talk to fish. You know to tell them that they're going to hurt them or something. No, I got it maybe they can't breathe underwater because my father told me they couldn't. Wierd creatures." She looked at them before feeling Gil move closer to her to tell her something. . "Hey, you realize we'd get in big trouble if our folks found us here." She looked at him and nodded. She knew what would happen if they got caught but honsetly if they did get in trouble and she left, Gil would take al of the punishment. That wasn't going to happen. "This seems like a... huge jump for you." She pushed him softly and rolled her eyes. "First time for everything right? Besides......what's life without risks?" She chuckled and peeked up a little more from the rock just letting her head and her hand that were set on the rock. "Like you said, our danger scales are different. And right now, I bet your danger senses are going way over maximum level." she shrugged not looking awa from the feet trying to see how many toes they had. "Nope, but it's close to it."

Gil shook his head, smiling slightly at the way Marina had said 'weird creatures' and shrugged. "They're probably not all that keen on you either." He teased, sticking his tongue out at her and then leaned up on the rock a little more, looking at the legs in wonder. "First time for everything right? Besides......what's life without risks?" Gil grinned at this and looked over to her. "Glad you're coming around Rina. Things get a whole lot more fun when you take some risks." Gil smiled and then tilted his head at her a little. "Nope, but it's close to it." he frowned a little and then looked back over the rock. "Well, tell me when you feel antsy and we'll go." He told her before turning his attention back to the humans. "I'm sure this won't be the last time we see humans. He said positively, folding his arms together and leaning on them.

Rey swam toward the dolphins, on of them swimming under her. She grabbed his fin, and he pulled her deep, down into the water where it got colder. Rey giggled with excitement as the dolphin played with her. She looked up, seeing the reef. He had pulled her far past it, where they weren't supposed to swim, but she didn't mind. She looked up, and as she did she saw the oddly colored fin of a fish she didn't recognize.

Nora would love to draw them... She thought, smiling to herself. The dolphin swam off toward them, and Rey followed quietly. She swam to the side of the bolder opposite these bright new fish, and attempted to spy them. She couldn't find where they were. They kept moving, dodging her. She wondered if her father, with all his high tech equipment, had seen them yet.

As she swam closer, she waved to Nora, a few yards away from her, to join her by these new fish. Her friend saw her, and she hoped Nora would join her in the discovery.

Gilidian's breath was caught at how close they had come and hid on the opposite side of the bolder the human was. He bit his lip, not sure whether they should try swimming away or not. Gil looked to Marina and leant into her ear. "We should swim away." He whispered, glancing around the bolder to make sure the human wasn't still trying to circle the bolder. He looked up towards the dolphin's and thought for a moment. If they swam amongst the dolphins, it's possible that they could get away quickly with the humans unable to identify them properly.

Gil looked to Rina and gently took her hand. "Come on. I wanted to see them, but... Uh... this might be a bit too much." He whispered softly into her ear constantly looking around the bolder incase this human was still feeling like coming closer and chase their tails apparently. It seemed more interested in Rina's tail. Wasn't surpring, in Gil's opinion. Rina's was more colorful, having a long blue tail and then pink fins hanging from it. Whereas his was more blue all over with green tints here and there. He clung onto Rina's hand more when he saw the girl inviting over another human. Okay, this was possibly getting too much... "Do you think they actually eat fish and underwater mammals?" He whispered to Rina quietly.

Alex reluctantly took one of the breathing devices, too excited to argue otherwise, and he followed after his sister. Unlike her, he went underwater unaided, camera in hand. He shot a couple pictures of the marine life, just to make sure the camera was still functioning well.

He noticed that Rey had ventured further than they were supposed to, and he held back. He began to wonder if she was just trying to get him into trouble. Dragging him into the deep end, then promptly abandoning him to go tell their mom seemed viable. Curiosity tugged at him, though, and he tread his feet underwater, unsure what decision to make in this dilemma.

Finally, he came upon a solution. Holding the camera up to his face, he zoomed in to where Rey was. It was a good thing he still had his telephoto lens in. Even though he was several yards away, the view on the camera matched what it would have been if he was right next to his sister. Grinning behind the breathing apparatus, he ventured just a little closer, floating in between what was permissible and what wasn't. He snapped a couple embarrassing pictures of his sister before moving the camera around, trying to get a better look of what he was seeing. Suddenly, he saw a flash of bright color. He snapped a picture and drew back. It was a tail...an unusual tail. Biggest fish tail he had ever seen. Hey, maybe if it wasn't mermaids, perhaps they'd discover a new fish! That was rewarding enough, and he returned his eye to the lens, keeping his camera locked on the tail as he went trigger happy with the capture button.

Marina looked at Gilidian as he teased her. "They're probably not all that keen on you either." When he stuck his tounge out at her she rolled her eyes before looking back at them. "They probably have never seen a mermaid before or a merman for that example." Looking at the feet, she wondered how they worked. Did they grow from a fin into feet or were they born with the strange things with the tiny little fingers sticking out? So many question, that she shouldn't be asking. "Glad you're coming around Rina. Things get a whole lot more fun when you take some risks." Fun? This was fun? No, this was crazy yet, interesting. "Yea,yea yea. You and everybody else, what am I really that big of a killjoy? Oh no,i'm turning into my parents." "Well, tell me when you feel antsy and we'll go." She smiled at him and nodded. Believe it or not but Gil was a lot nicer than Marina once you got to know the both of them, you would agree.

After a minute Rina could feel her becoming, her normal self once she saw a human swimming closer and closer to the pair. She hid her head from above the rock and let out a small squech. Before going back up to see if they were gone, they weren't. "We should swim away." She nodded and closed her eyes. "Please go away. Please go away." When he took her hand she opened her eyes and looked at him. "Come on. I wanted to see them, but... Uh... this might be a bit too much." She looked over the side for a minute and covered her mouth. "It's going to touch my tail isn't it?" She said in a whisper through her hands. The human was looking at her tail and that was Marina's frist thought. She thought she was going to touch it,that would have made her just swim away faster than a sailfish. When she waved over another human, Marina looked at Gil. "Do you think they actually eat fish and underwater mammals?" She nodded letting go of her mouth. Probably. That's it. We are going to die. She whispered quickly seeing a few more humans joining the girl one with a camera. She shooked her head. She moved her tail quickly from where they couldn't see it. It was an uncomfortable position but she didn't want pictures taken of her colorful tail.

Damn. The tail moved away.

He pulled the camera down and glared at his sister. No doubt they were scaring the fish away. Stealth wasn't exactly their forte.

He wanted to yell at her to back up, but at the this distance she wouldn't have even noticed a wave. They need to invent breathers that allow you to talk... he thought sorely.

A bit bummed at the setback, he decided to browse through the pictures he had already taken. Those tails were really odd...was it really a fish? They way the fins were positioned led him to believe that the fish--if it really was one--actually swam like a dolphin, with up-and-down motions, versus side-to-side. Then again, perhaps it was the distortion of the water, or just the way he took the picture.

As he switched to the next picture, something caught his eye and he squinted, his nose almost touching the screen. His eyes widened and he zoomed in further, perplexed.

Were those fingers??

But...whose? It couldn't be Rey...he zoomed out of the picture just to verify. Rey was too far away, as was Nora. Was there another human there? No...they'd probably approach them. Maybe a pair of dismembered fingers? That was just creepy...

His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed the scenery underneath his feet had changed. Looking up, he realized he had unknowingly drifted sideways and farther out, floating above a sand bank rather than the reef from before. A slight inconvenience, he was about to swim back when he noticed an ominous shape in the water. When he realized what it was, he froze, eyes wide, almost dropping his camera.

There was a large tiger shark coming straight for him!

Gil looked down to her tail when she sucked it closer to her body and then looked up, seeing a couple of extremely bright flashes coming from behind the bolder. He flinched back and then cringed, face crinkling up in pain as he began rubbing at his eyes and his vision got very blurry. He'd seen a lot of bright things in his life under the water, but nothing as bright as that. He opened his eyes as another bright light flashed and involuntarily let out a grunt, his eyes seriously straining and hurting now. However, he started to hear Marina's worried words and felt her move shakily. "That's it. We are going to die." Gilidian's eyes widened at once at this and he squeezed her hand, shaking his head and rubbing his eyes quickly. Although things were still a little blurry, he saw the dolphins swimming above them and clung onto Rina's small delicate hand. He was determined that Rina wouldn't get harmed. She was only here because of him anyway. If she got hurt, it was his fault. Oh why did he have to be so needy about seeing these god damned humans? "We're not gonna die." Gil replied to her, pulling back a little, pressing himself against the bolder before swimming up towards the dolphins, clinging onto Rina's hand and bringing her among them so that they were surrounded by grey blubber. He looked back to the humans and then looked to Rina. "I'd like to see it flash that thingamabob at us while we're in here..." He murmured, before pulling her along, glancing back to the humans.

He paused as he noticed the one with the flashing object seeming to go tense and then noticed the shape approaching him. He for some reason became frozen in his tracks and bit down on his lip. "Rina." He said, still looking down at the human and going tense. Sure, the thing probably wanted to eat him, but... well, did he really want it to get eaten by a giant tiger fish? Of course not. "Rina, he's gonna get himself hurt..." He glanced over to her, a sign of asking for help and a word of advice crossing his face. Advice on what however? Whether or not he should try and help the strange creature which was about to get struck by a fish which, even he, wouldn't be able to stop, but maybe distract...

Gilidian panicked, eyes going wide as he shook violently. How to distract a shark, or any sea creature in fact. Tug hard on its tail. Without really thinking about it, Gil dived down, tail flapping violently as he went straight to the tail and as hard as he could, tugged at the sharks tail. "Come on you big lug, leave them alone." He said to the overgrown fish, tugging at its tail and then swimming forwards and flicking the sharks fin. The shark spun around quickly, looking to Gil and showing off its sharp white teeth. Gil's face dropped and he simply clung onto its tail. He laughed a little nervously, before being spun around by the shark chasing its own tail, trying to shake him off. Gil sucked in a breath, hands slipping from the tail and he closed his eyes, thinking a moment before his eyes opened and he jumped forwards and held his hand over the sharks sides, just where his gills were. He gathered that cutting off his breathing point slightly would calm the shark down, and it did exactly that.

Eventually, Gilidian was holding onto a calmly breathing shark and he pulled his hands away, gently rubbing the top of his head. "Sorry..." He mumbled to the creature quietly, his tail swaying side to side slightly as he tried to apologize to the sleepy shark. Gil slowly lowered from the sharks back to it's eyes. It was such a beautiful creature. He sincerely wished that he didn't have to be so brutal to it. "I-I really am sorry... I guess it's just defenses." He told the creature, before glancing up to where Rina was, hoping she was okay among the dolphins. He was a little shaky and tired after that, and he had gone significantly paler from the fright of it all. He rubbed at his eyes and then rubbed at the sharks skin again.

Rey opened her eyes, opening her mouth and yelling. Of course, she was underwater and her breather fell out and she inhaled water. A mermaid! A mermaid saved her from a shark!

As that thought crossed her mind, she tried to kick toward the surface, but she was to far. Her vision started to blur, and she kicked violently, trying to propel herself to the surface. Finally, her vision went black, and she felt herself sinking. She felt herself hit the sand bar, and the last thing she remembered was landing on the breather, grasping it.

Gil jumped back a little as he heard the sound of bubbles flowing out of somewhere and his eyes immediately darted towards the human. She was... laying... on the sand... underwater. Taking a nap by the looks of it... He scarcely swum towards her a little -swum back... Swum forwards again... until he was finger distance to the girl. He shook and trembled slightly at the human, reaching a hand forwards and poking her, before violently pulling back and blinking a couple of times. "Uh... Bad place to take a nap... Human..." Gil said, but it seemed like she wasn't giving any response... He thought for a moment, before Rina's words played through his ears again. Maybe they can't breathe underwater because my father told me they couldn't. "Uhm... human... are you dying?" Gil asked, poking it again and getting no response again. "Oh... scallops..."

He bit his lip, grabbing the breather and putting it in her mouth... but that didn't do anything, did it. "Why don't you humans breathe down here?" He asked her pointlessly, before awkwardly trying to find a way to pick her up. He couldn't get it any other way, and ended up holding her under her pits. But that didn't really work either. In the end, he'd gone to holding her torso in one arm, and resting her legs over the other arm. Typical fireman style, but he'd never really done it before. "Uh, human... You should probably wake up... Oh man, I'm dead when I get home..." Gil was still tired and huffed out a breath before heading up towards the shore, coming to higher up land and then laying Reyton on the sandbank, her body rested on the shore. Gil was still mainly in the water, but his torso poked out of the surface, and he tilted his head curiously. He couldn't understand. Was she breathing yet? All she needed was air... right? That's the message he got... Gilidian poked a little more out of the surface, tail slightly on show. "Uhm... Human... This is getting a little awkward... Are you dead?" He didn't quite know what to expect. He was scared out of his wits, but there was that dangerous side of him that wanted to make sure everything was okay before retreating back into safety and letting it all out there...

She was out of the water she could feel that. She forced herself to breathe, but ended up coughing up salt water. She reached out, grabbed whoever saved her by the shoulder, and pulled herself into a seated position. She spat up salt water for a few seconds. Opening her eyes, she looked at him. "Umm....yes? I think I'm alive. Possibly. You're a mermaid," She told him, eyes widen jaw slack in amazement. "Oh my God, you're a mermaid! And you saved my life...I'm Reyton," She said, trying to act as cool as she could.

"You should get back under water, before the others see you. I don't think I'm even supposed to be seeing you! Holy crap I'm talking to a mermaid!" She pinched herself, flinching. "Okay, I'm alive, you're a mermaid, and this is freaky..."

Alex reached the beachfront in record speed. That shark was wayyyyy too close for comfort! He had never had such a close call in years.

He scrambled to the sand, ending up on his knees as he breathed hard, both from exhaustion and the fear he had felt. When he calmed down, he turned around.

For a second he panicked. Where was Rey?? Had she been attacked by the shark? However, his eyes quickly found her on the beach. Relieved, he ran towards her. Someone was with her...Liam? No, this guy had blond hair...who was he and what was with that swimsuit...

Wait a minute.

That wasn't a swimsuit. It was a tail!

Alex halted, eyes wide and mouth open.

There. Was. A. Merman. On. The. Beach. Right. In. Front. Of. Him. Oh. My. God.

The camera was in his hands in no time. A second later he had pressed the shutter. Snap!

That was the sound of eternal fame right there.
