Echo

"I cannot just sit around here and do nothing!"

0 · 301 views · located in New York

a character in “Discovery at the Rendezvous”, as played by stormwolf321

Description

Name: Echo. Her real name is Faith Alista. She wants nothing to do with her real name and instead she named herself after the thing that most fascinates her. Echoes.

Age: 16

Place: 16-17. She teaches the kids what to know as they grow up into food and clothing gatherers.

Description: Image
Long blonde hair(Which is usually messy all the time) with hazel(Almost red) eyes. She wears ripped blue jeans, t-shirts, and a leather coat. She also has some head phones and a CD player which she usually gives to the kids to listen to.

Personality: She isn't to kindly to others. She is somewhat rude but only in an impatient way that can only tell you that she is very stressed. She isn't very polite around new people either usually rolling her eyes or yawning as they speak. Her mind was always set in the gutters and had never climbed free. Though most would probably think that she is selfish she is actually the most sacrificial in the group and would do anything to help the younger ones which btw are the only ones she is nice to along with the oldest. When it comes to those who have well lives she can be a snake against and will most likely ignore them occasionally getting into fights too. Echo is almost always the first to throw the punch.

Being patient has always been a challenge for Echo and sitting still isn't much of an option unless she is forced. This only adds on to the part about her being stressed. Because she is however, even though she can be around the older ones, she can still be pretty mean to. Even if they were her family, she never really intended for her to act the way she does. Echo can't help it because her life is dedicated to the society and because of her parents who she found weren't her real parents. She always imagined a world of abuse and savagery. Everything around her seems dark unless it has something to do with the society. She never sees things in true color. Only in shades of grey.(She isn't color blind) This has made her the way she was.

She also refuses to show any succumbing nature. Whether its love or friendship, she is always looking at her superiority(Again not selfish) because she doesn't want to seem weak or just like any other weak and low life girl. This has given her a somewhat stoic nature around the little kids, others like Kyle or Jinx though, might not notice because at times when she knows she isn't superior to them, she just lays low, acts emotionless but doesn't surrender to whatever they give her or anything in that matter. Echo is a very strong(Physically and mentally) determined person, having ample amounts of endurance. One thing Echo will never do is break a promise. Her parents have done that to her to many times. The feeling of deception finally closing in on her and she doesn't want the kids to feel like that ever.

History: Her mother was a teenager when she had gotten pregnant and the father had left her. To make sure her life doesn't fall into ruins like on the TV shows she gives her daughter up for adoption. Echo was soon adopted by what seemed like a loving family only to turn out as the worst one she had ever had. After about five years of nonstop arguing and beating, her step-parents drop her off on the streets.

Likes: Bugs, poverty society, the younger, Riley especially, Echoes, music, and chocolate.

Dislikes: People with good lives, racism, smoking, blood, crying(Whether its someone else or her, and no money.

*Other: Her fears include, she will never be loved, one day everyone will leave her, tight spaces, and elevators.

The girl refuses to shed a single tear ever again and has since then, has not ever cried.

So begins...

Nilas' eyes widened as the door slammed shut. To her surprise, the girl did not wake. She sighs, taking her phone before getting out and gently closing the door before walking over on the right side of the car. Without hesitation, she walked over to the sidewalk which to was blocked by the rubble. The building on the left had fallen though so the left side of the street was a lot cleaner. Most of the blocks were spread more instead of being in one massive pile. Suddenly startled by the new voice her head turned toward Joseph and recognized him from her school. "Ghosts of course!" She says excitably before turning to the wreckage.

Nila carefully stepped over or between the brick before heading onto the other side. One miss step and one could easily take a trip down meeting flesh with pavement and the sharp edges of concrete. Nila looked back at the others once before headings towards the building. At the side, you could see the shape of a small one person door most likely used for workers and employees. It wasn't made out of the strongest material though and could easily be torn down by a boy like Zavier especially how rusted the bolts must be.

When she walks up to the door the handle was completely rusted shut and wouldn't budge. However, the bolts looked cracked and easily bendable. If only those planks of wood weren't behind the door. The cheap wood was nailed behind the door sealing it shut. Nila though was smart enough to pull not push and the door slid open with ease. "Lord, who ever shut this place down had no idea what to do." She says jokingly before walking under the wood planks. Once inside, it was as scary as she imagined it to be. Cobwebs everywhere occasionally some with spiders, a mouse running across the floor, the creaking of wood- wait. The creaking of wood?

I must be imagining things... She thinks but she was wrong. She could hear the faint creaking sound of a door opening and just above their heads the floor of the level above them. Maybe this place is haunted or it may be just the wind playing tricks.

~~~~~~~~
(Yay people with poor characters may post.)
She heard them before she saw them. At first, she didn't believe it and she still didn't as she knelt down on my bedside to pray. The humming of an engine? No, impossible. Nobody has ever came or has wanted to come to this place for as long as she could remember. The girl with blonde hair disregarded this, the sound becoming fainter and fainter to her and to Riley? Well, there was no sound.
When both kids, along with 4 other younger ones or, ones the same age as Riley, were finished they proceeded to go to bed all except two who preferred to stay up until 1 a.m. playing, making jokes, or just chatting. The blonde had walked out of the room along with her best friend Riley who was right behind her. "Echo? Where we goin'?" He asks so innocently it melts her heart. The one named Echo replied. "Just to your favorite spot." She says with a rare smirk of hers making Riley smile with glee. He already knew where they were going and had run up ahead before stopping abruptly and trying to reach a string on the ceiling.
Echo rolled her eyes playfully, walking up and pulling the string down bringing out a ladder. "Do you need help-" She was interrupted. "Nah i got dis'!" He says confidently before weakly climbing up the stairs unbeknownst that Echo was helping him. Once he was up he gave her a thumbs up. "See I told you!" He laughs before running off at the end of the room. Echo too climbed up the ladder, ironically, weaker. "Hey don't run so fast! You might trip!" She says with furrowed eyebrows as she finally makes it in the room.
The Cellar was one of the places big kids like Echo and/or Kyle come up and relax looking at the sky from the window at the end of the room. The exact same thing Riley was doing. Echo gives an even rarer smile before walking up and climbing into the window seal pushing her feet up on the side to keep her balance. Riley had jumped up on her lap causing the girl to wince but rest when Riley also relaxes. "Is dat a shootin star!?" He says pointing to the blackness of the sky. Echo quickly looks up and sees nothing. "No Riley." She sighs making the kid look down in sadness. Echo immediately adds in. "But it could've been one. I mean honestly, do you really think I would have looked up in just enough time to see that thing zip across the sky?" She says while tickling his belly. "Hehe! I guess not!" The kid laughs some more. "Ssshhh! Riley your going to wake up the other kids!" She says while still tickling him. "I can't!" He says barely able to finish his sentence due to all the laughing.
When Echo thinks he has had enough, she stops ignoring the fact that they might have woken up a few kids giving the big kids and even harder time. Echo picked him up and rested him on his lap as she sat on the window seal still gazing at the stars unaware of the 'outsiders' below them. Right now she was in a moment of peace, something that happened rarely to the oldest.
Sunny's eyes flicked open, "That's Kezzy. Kezzy, Kezzy, that's Kezzy." she insisted as she shook her sister and pinched her.
Admittedly, Sunny was always being babied by her sister. Mostly, she didn't mind it, but she liked having Kezzy around. It was like being the big sister for once.
"Mom... stop... mom, I'm tired." Jynx groaned, half-asleep.
Sunny didn't seem discouraged. She continued to shake her sister until she got up. Jynx was suddenly aware of what she was saying. She felt guilty in that second, calling her mother. She always wanted to be enough for Sunny. But no matter what she tried, Jynx was no mother, only a sister.
"What is it, love?" Jynx asked, suddenly alert and smoothing out her sister's yellow-orange hair.
"Kezzy! I heard her say something and then make some noises. She's downstairs, downstairs!"
On the way downstairs, Jynx noticed the cellar open. She made her way upstairs only to find...
"Kezzy?" she asked, alarmed. The little girl, Riley, and Echo turned to look at her. She didn't want to worry them. Likely, it was an animal. "Oh, I- I'm sorry. Didn't mean to worry you. See you guys in the morning. Let's go, Sunny."
"But I heard the noise d-" Jynx put her hand over her sister's mouth before she could finish. Downstairs, yes, I know.
"G'night, guys."
The two sisters made their way downstairs. It was just her luck that the wind wasn't too harsh tonight and the stairs didn't creak enough to give hint of her presence. Luck. Funny how she'd been blessed with so much of that, and it still wasn't enough luck to be born into a family that loved her enough.
There were people! Likely, they didn't mean to intrude, and the prospect of meeting new people excited Jynx. She was sure they were just curious teens, but she saw the hints. The gold bracelets, the shine that hung off their ears, the expensive, clean clothing. The others wouldn't take well to this group. Jynx would have to lure them away as safely as possible. Maybe she could cause a commotion outside and lock the door again.
Sunny had other ideas in mind. The girl darted into the light, "Who're you? I'm Sunny. You people look different from us. My s-" us. That was too far. It gave them too many hints, and if they stuck around any longer, Kyle or Echo would come down and someone would get hurt.
Jynx darted down the stairs in the same fashion but remained in enough darkness to conceal her face and look like nothing but a shadow. She grabbed Sunny by the collar and tugged her back into the dark, at her side.
"I'm sorry." she said, sadly, not particularly wanting them to go, "You can't stay here. Go. Please. Before you get hurt."
Hopefully that was enough to scare them off. She hadn't seen their faces and they couldn't see hers- probably for the best. She and Sunny were already making their way back up the stairs and off into the hallway, lit by streaks of moonlight. She watched. It was likely that someone like Basilisk would come down and that was bad news. Some of her family had a temper with these people.
Echos head darted up eyes looking down at the little girl then at Jynx. Eyes in somewhat of a glare at Jynx she set Riley on the ground before whispering in his ear. "Play with Kezzy for a little while until I come back okay?" She says with a smile and the small boy nods walking over to Kezzy and sitting down in front of her. "So what do you wanna do!" He says playfully as Echo walks down the latter.
Echo knew something was up. It wasn't like Jinx to cover up her sisters mouth and leave in such a hurry. They usually stayed around to chat and Sunny would most likely want to play. walking through the moonlit hall she ran into Jinx. "Oh! Sorry." She says more directed towards Jinx in a somewhat negative way. "So what were you doing down there?" She asks with her arms crossed eyes glaring at the girl. Echo wasn't heartless. If one of the oldest was acting the slightest bit of suspicious to her she would do anything to figure out why.
She didn't tell on most of them either if they were doing something slightly bad. Sometimes she would handle it herself and let it slide with Kyle but sometimes she just had to inform him. She knew she shouldn't be trying to pry information out of the girls throat but it was to protect the family and protect the family only. That's all she ever believed in anyway, well, besides being with Riley, everything was to protect and make sure they deserved to live. Another reason why she hated outsiders...
~~~~~~~~

Nila looked closely at the girl, astounded at how real she looked. Could she be a ghost? Or was she real? She gasps when the girl was suddenly pulled into the darkness followed by a haunting voice before she saw a shadowy movement then it was gone. "Crap! Why didn't I catch on camera! Now they won't believe me!" She mentally curses herself before looking at the way the supposed spirit went before going the same way .

"Hey, hey, hey, keep it down you two. Some people are trying to sleep and some people are trying to get the little ones to sleep, speaking of which. Kezzy, Riley what are you two doing still up? It's already passed 1 o'clock, you guys needs to get to sleep already, and I don't want you falling asleep in here again Riley. We don't need you two getting sick because you're too tired to make it back to bed," Kyle said sternly, suddenly appearing on the ladder leading up to where they were.

The ability to get around the hotel without making so much as a single creak in the floorboards was a skill that had been developed by the older kids with practice, and it came in handy when sneaking up on the younger ones or listening in when the younger ones were up to no good. If he were to ever put any thought in it though he would realise that he was probably the only one that used it subconsciously. Instead he kept up his stren stare for a few seconds before letting out a tired sigh and shaking his head and running his hand through his hair. "Come on, how about I tuck you both in before I check to see if the entrences are all shut tight. Does that sound fair to you guys?" he asked giving them a soft smile as he held his hands out to them.

Something about this didn't feel right to him, one of the older ones should have been with them, Echo most likely since she was almost always with Riley. The rope was high enough so that the younger ones couldn't reach so they couldn't get up unless they asked one of the older ones and he made it a rule to that the little ones were not to be left alone up here so that they can't accidentally hurt themselves. The only reason that they should be left alone was in the case of emergency or intruders, which he was getting an uneasy feeling that one of the two had happened, but these two needed to be taken care of first. However, like a good leader he didn't let any of his uneasyness show on his face.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ghosts? Well what a coincidense, so am I. In fact I've heard one a few times, but it always vanishes whenever I get close to it, you have to be very quiet if you want to get close though, it's very skittish," Joseph informed them, giving them a smirk looking as though he was teasing them again but still had an air of seriousness. He easily followed behind Nila when she opened up the same entrence that he'd found earlier and since had aways used. He took note of how she hadn't screamed at the creaking of the floorboards or the cobwebs or mice and internally commended her for it. He'd always thought that she was hot before, but this just made her even more so and he then decided that when they were done with this that he would finally ask her out, like he'd been meaning to for a while now.

When he heard a voice ahead of him, he looked up in amazement as he saw a young girl briefly before she disappeared. After that he was startled when Nila suddenly spoke then began to quickly walk ahead of them. She was about to leave them all behind when he grabbed her hand, forcing her to stop. "Hey, no need to be so eager, calm down, you might scare them away," he whispered to her, but it was obvious that he was just as excited by the ghost and wanted to get going as well but was holding himself back.

Kezzy climbed up the latter and then hear Sunny say her name and saw her and her older sister come over "Sunny!!.." but just as soon as they came they left. Kezzy shrugged then looked to Echo and Riley "wat yews two doins awakes?" she asked right as Echo went to follow Jynx and Sunny, she smiled as Riley sat down next to her and asked her what she wanted to play. She leaned closer into Riley and whispered "wells I gots woken up by noises downstairs, dis yews hears dems? I fink we should go and see wat de noises ares? It could be fun, we culd be likes spys peoples? and maybe Sunny wulds likes to..." Kezzy stopped as she heard Kyle start talking, she wondered how long he has been standing there "Hai Kyles! She looked up with sad looking eyes she gave these eyes to the older kids, and sometimes it did work for her. She then poked her horsey, Benny, up to Kyle "Even Bennys wants to play!"

It was Echo she was worried about. Kyle, yes, was unfriendly enough to outsiders, but he wasn't exactly as violent. Basilisk was violent, but he wasn't one of the older kids.

She did have to tell her. She was 16 now, and not particularly stupid, but she didn't fight. She just taught kids.

"Don't freak out, Echo. I understand your wariness but don't hurt anyone, alright?" she paused for a moment, thinking. Echo was strong-willed but the kids were her priority, "No violence tonight. No getting others involved. Promise me that and I'll tell you. Do it for Sunny, okay?"

She would tell them anyway. Jynx wasn't violent but it was all a balancing act- Echo balanced out how passive Jynx was.

"No violence." she held out her pinky, hoping for a promise returned, as a slash of moonlight ran down her face.

"No violins." Sunny chimed, wrongly, holding out her pinky as well.

Nobody would have been in danger of being hurt if these strangers just didn't show up in the first place. Jynx worried for them. It didn't matter. The two girls would get these strangers away before the kids even knew they were there and the issue would be done with. She refused this commotion to get out of hand.

"Perfect." Jynx smiled. No violence- the one thing Jynx couldn't stand and Echo had promised against it. Echo wasn't just wary towards outsiders, she could be rather wary towards Jynx, too. Funny how she filled that roll. It didn't matter much, though; At the very least, she could know Sunny would be safe. Their methods were wrong, but her family was nothing if not protective. Another funny thing; Jynx was technically a leader, but she didn't go around attacking anybody who came near their home. Echo didn't seem to think of her as much of a leader because of it.

"How come no violins, Jynx?" Sunny asked her sister, but Jynx shushed her sister softly and soothingly.

"Outsiders. I don't know why they're here..." Jynx led Sunny and Echo back, down the hall to the top of the stairs. No moonlight shone here, it was too dark to see their presence, and Jynx and Echo moved silently so long as Sunny didn't make a noise or Riley and Kezzy didn't come.

"I was just going to throw a rock outside and lock the door behind them." Which would have worked if Sunny hadn't spoken to them.

They should have just left. It was obvious they were wealthy- years of stealing and conning taught a person how to read others in seconds. And they weren't just wealthier than Jynx's family because, in all honesty, who wasn't? These kids were the real kind of rich. They should have stayed in their car and driven to some expensive boutique instead of an abandoned building.

Don't you know? People like you could get hurt out here.... be careful... she thought.

"So we're going to get them out of here and there's not going to be any blood."

The 3 faces peered down the stairs.

Sunny's eyes began to drift, she was getting sleepy and Jynx could tell. She struggled hard to stay awake though. It made Jynx give that warm smile to the darkness.

They stared. Watching.

Ease trickled across Jynx's face and she let her self grin, wide.

Thank God.

It was all they could hope to do in the passive route, and her family had not failed her. Ideally, nothing would happen and they would go away and never come back, but she knew how these things worked.

Jynx was a light sleeper: her childhood taught her to be. Basilisk was trustworthy to deal with their safety at night- more than trustworthy. She didn't like his methods, but he kept them safe and was probably their lifeline when everyone else was sleeping. And no doubt he had dealt with more strangers or threats than anyone was awake to realize. But occasionally, in her life in the building, she would awaken before Basilisk dealt with outsiders. Well, her methods were a tad... sneakier. And a touch more fun, in her opinion. "Haunting" was a deterrent to some; it worked more times than it did not, but now and then there would be someone who was too brave or too proud to go.

If someone got hurt, though she prayed that they wouldn't, at least she could say that she had done as much as was in her power to keep Sunny from seeing violence. Those her age were highly protective of the children, but they didn't think often on the effects it might have to see violence used so easily. Not all the children experienced abuse. They were gentle now, of course, but Jynx didn't want them all growing up thinking a sucker punch to the throat would solve the world's problems.

Jynx looked down to see the girl silently rubbing her eyes. Her mind wandered easily.

I wonder what Kezzy and Riley are doing. Sunny thought, idly.

It's done.
I'll find you a better life, kiddo. We'll all find one.
At the same time, Jynx was smoothing out her sister's always tangled hair.

"Let's put the kids to bed." she mouthed to Echo.

A sudden voice penetrated the silence making Nila shudder as what seemed to be a males voice, boomed throughout the tiny room they were in. Nila smiled excitedly, phone in hand and looking back at the others just as they were coming in. "You guys would never believe what me and Joseph saw." She half whispers half talks before looking around the room trying to see where that one ghost had gone.

When she spotted the door, she gestured slightly for the others to follow as she walked over and slowly, quietly, opening the door. The voice and the three banging sounds would indeed scare most but as you could tell, Nila wasn't easily scared. When she opened the door there was a small hallway and at the end were stairs. Not wanting to be leading them somewhere they didn't want to go, she glanced back at the others as to see who was staying here or going with her.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"Go away." Followed by three bangs. She could tell the voice belonged to Basilisk.
This made Echo tense up. So, Jinx wasn't lying when she said there were outsiders. Eyes flicking up to the ceiling for a small second she wondered if these people were friendly or not. This is what scared her the most. people who would usually get tempted in coming in a building like this were usually gangs or drug addicts with no life. She had come across a few and most of the time she found them, they usually wish they hadn't come here.
Basilisk though was someone everyone could count on. The kids, their lives, including the older ones, depended on Basilisk to keep them safe sometimes. She had seen him fight and knew that he was perfect for guarding the building. His methods of keeping kids away were either harsh or brilliant to Echo. Right now it seemed he was playing the ghost act, something we get normally around here and to Echo, he was doing and excellent job. He could also be very passive aggressive. Echo just didn't seem to have any patience what so ever to give anybody a second chance.
After a while of standing there looking for the outsiders, feet tired, whole body tired, Echo began to get a bit impatient. Patience was her enemy of course.
When Jinx had mouth that it was time to put the kids to bed, Echo thanked the lord before she walked back up to the Cellar ladder only to stop when she saw Kyle. Great. How was she going to explain her being gone and leaving Riley behind. Jinx will have to tell him since of course she was the one who had told her.
"Kyle." She says lowly before walking up to the ladder and getting Riley down. "B-but I don' wanna..." He whines wanting to stay up even more to look at the stars. "I know you don't want to but you have to go to sleep..." She says tiredly as she picked him up and put him on the ground brushing off the dirt on his white shirt. Right now, Riley didn't have his hat on because it interfered usually covering up his eyes but he still wore it all the time.
Head turning up to the Cellar again. "Kezzy, time to go to bed..." She says softly trying to coax the girl down.
"Sunny, go with Echo." Jynx said, prodding the girl towards her as they returned to the attic ladder.
"I don't wanna sleep! Kezzy and Riley aren't even tired. I'm older than them and I'm not ti-"
"I know you're tired, don't tell me you're not. All 3 of you are going to sleep."
Her tone was not harsh- it never was. But there was a certain finality in it that made Sunny stop arguing. The fiesty, bright-haired girl went with Echo and Riley and waited for Kezzy.
If Echo was going to take the kids away, now was as good a time as any. Jynx pulled Kyle aside as Echo was convincing the kids to go to bed. She took a deep breathe and spoke in a hushed tone. Kyle didn't treat outsiders with the utmost friendliness, but he wasn't the type to rush headlong into a situation.
"Okay, Kyle, now I know you don't really freak out but if you want to get mad y'have to wait until I'm done explaining, okay?" she waited for a moment and then continued, "There were some outsiders here. They don't look like they wanna hurt us so we're not going to hurt them- that's fair, right? So Basilisk and I pretended to be ghosts," by now her words were starting to rush the tiniest bit, "and now they'll go away forever. So you can go check them out at the top of the stairs and then we'll all put the kids to bed and wake up and we'll forget everything, okay?"
"I know," was all Kyle said when he heard Echo say his name as he pulled Kezzy up into his arms, it meant that he wasn't going to get after her for leaving them alone and that he'd already gathered from the children that something was up. "Take Kezzy to my room please, I promised her that she could sleep there tonight. Be good Kezzy," he requested as he carefully made his way down the ladder while carrying her then put her down when they reached the bottom.
From the banging that he'd heard, he could conclude that there were intruders and that whoever had spotted them first was putting up the ghost act, something that was thought up by one of the more passive kids he couldn't remember who. Kyle allowed himself to be pulled aside by Jinx and listened calmly to what she had to say as she confirmed his suspicions. He thought carefully on how to proceed, from what he now knows it seems as though the intruders had yet to leave and it looked like they would have to kick things up a notch if they were to keep everyone from getting hurt like she obviously wanted.
"Make the floorboards creak randomly around them and throw a small rock at them occasionally but stay out of sight. I'm going to go find Basilisk, we'll be back in fifteen minutes tops, hopefully they're gone by then by if not then we'll just have to make an appearence. Don't worry we won't touch them unless we're forced to," he whispered reassuingly to her as he patted her shoulder before he took off in seach of Basilisk.
Finding the guy was no easy task, because if he wanted to stay hidden then he stayed hidden. There were a few times though (very few and far between that they may be) that he was able to find Basilisk, he was just glad that this was one of those times. "Come on Basilisk, I have an idea that I think that you're going to like," was all Kyle whispered by way of explination as he began to make his way to the lobby.
This was getting exciting, so far whenever he'd come here alone nothing had ever really happened. Now that he was with a small group of people it seemed to really stir up the ghosts that haunted this place. They sounded like they really wanted them gone, but at the same time he was just too eager to see another apperation to leave. Joseph couldn't believe that he hadn't thought of this sooner... then he remembered why he'd never brought anyone with him, everyone would think that he'd gone crazy and start avoiding him like the plague. That thought put a bit of a damper on his high, but it wasn't enough to make much of a difference as he continued to follow Nila, since she seemed to want to lead the way and he was more than happy to let her so long as she didn't try rushing off without them. Delilah on the other hand didn't seem to be taking the spooks too well, if her clinging to their presence was any indication. Zavier though seemed to be doing better, but he was also looking more than a little creeped out by all of this. None of this deterred him though, the night that he'd been waiting for had finally arrived and he wasn't going to miss a chance to catch sight of the ghost that he'd been trying to track down for a while now. With that resolve in mind he pulled out his cell with the camera feature ready to snap a shot of any other ghosts that might appear.
Kezzy sighs when Echo says she couldn't play the ghost game with Basi. She dropped her shoulders and went with Echo, Riley and Sunny. When they first stopped at Jynx's room to drop off Sunny she went over to Sunny and gave her a hug "ni ni Sunny" then went with Echo and Riley to Kyles room and climbed up on the bed and smiled to Echo and Riley "ni ni Echo and Riley, Benny says ni ni toos" she watched as they left the room and Kezzy sat on the bed looking at the door then down to Benny "Benny do you think Ky-Ky will be long?" she smiled and nodded "i hope he won't be" she then leans back on the bed cuddling Benny and plops her thumb into her mouth, the older kids have been trying to get her out of that habit but when she was alone she still did it, and tries to keep her eyes open.
Jynx sighed again, but too quietly to hear. She heard them mention the rock, or something pertaining to it. If the circumstances had been any different... This was one of the few things Jynx disliked about her life, that wasn't about the safety or wellbeing of her family. There were so many opportunities taken from her because of the damned family she was born into- opportunities like friends. Her efforts were useless. These people... they were persistent. She could only hope they were not also volatile.
A light flickered on. A.... cell phone? Flash light? Were they anticipating seeing Jynx tonight? Lucky, she was too quick, and the light blinded the strangers to everything but what it shone on, while Jynx could see everything. She concentrated on the strangers. On Riley, Echo, Kyle, Basilisk, Kezzy, anyone. Sunny. Sunny, sunny. Anything to distract her and stop memories from resurfacing.
Part of her thought it would be nice for them to find the truth. Admittedly, Jynx's attempts did not have all of her heart in them. Logically, she needed these strangers away. In honesty, though, she wanted nothing more than to meet these new faces and smile and laugh with them. See, Sunny? The world outside our little family isn't half so bad... she imagined herself saying, these people are good. It was just dad that wasn't. Just dad.
The memories started coming back. But she couldn't freeze up. Not here. Then she wouldn't be able to control her actions. And they'd definitely find her. She concentrated. Sunny's laughter. The way Kezzy talks. Riley's hat. Kyle and Echo always looking out for the kids. Basilisk. Protecting. Every night, he protected. It calmed her down. She'd be fine. She bit her lip and hoped Kyle and Basilisk would drive them off.
I just want to forget this mess.
"Good nights, Ke-!" Sunny said, too loudly, and then readjusted her tone, "Good night, Kezzy!" she continued in a shouting sort of whisper as she hugged her friend.
Echo put Sunny to sleep. It wasn't what she was used to, but it was nice. Sunny began drifting off. "Good ni... nigh...." she was too sleepy to finish her sentence.
Sunny didn't particularly want to sleep, but she couldn't find it in her to stay up.
Luca
Luca panted as he removed the last protruding nail from its crevice. "Well, my work here is done." He says as he stuffs the old nail in his pocket and making his way upstairs only to abruptly stop as he hears a faint, yet audible, voice coming from the hallway. "Ah, It seems the little ones are awake..." He pauses a moment. "Or...Some of them at least." He finishes before continueing upstairs.
"Hmm, yes...What a fun day this will be indeed..." Unlike most kids who damper on the extremity of things, Luca tries to make the best of things. This isn't just because he's insane, it's mostly got to do with the seclusion of him and others. No one to actually discuss any of the dire topics to him.
As he walks down the hall, he sees Kezzy already awake knocking on what looked like Sunny and that girl Jinx's door. "Good morning Miss." he says kindly in a somewhat British accent as he passes the small girl.
Echo and Riley
Riley was the first to wake up and dash out of bed as he hears the others waking up. As he passes out through the door he makes sure to grab his 'lucky' hat from a hook to the right of the door.
He bolts out through the door sliding as he turns to the hallway. Riley was more of a morning person than any one else, of course, all little kids were. Riley stops as he sees Kezzy and he guesses...Luca. "Hi Kezzy!" He says happily with a wave before turning to the door. "Hey Sunny! Hurry! We might miss the morning prayer at breakfast!" He says as he too starts knocking at the door.
~
Echo groans as Riley bolts out of bed and to the hallway. It takes her a few minutes to get up and make her way through the door and down the hallway. This was her morning ritual.
Wake up.
Head to the storage room and start rationing the right amount for everyone.
Pass the food around at the big food court.
Say morning prayer. Head back to her and Riley's room to finish their meal.
It was practically law around here to eat in everyone's room in fear of stealing. The food courts indeed was a huge place and for the longest of times they used that to eat in until they found out some of the kids were stealing other kids food right under their noses.
Echo sighed as she heard the echoing of the kids and the murmurs coming from all the other rooms. Just another day.
Nila
As the sun shone through the window, the ray of light stopped over Nila's eyes. The teen groans as she grabs her pillow and pulls it over her head. The small chirp of birds coming from the window calmed her as she tried to fall back asleep only to tense up at the sound of small kids playing downstairs. Nila sat upright. The sound was coming closer. "Oh Lord." She breathes out before jumping out of bed, wrapping her hand around the pristine door knob and closing the door just in time for the little kids to stop. Sarika had forgotten that her little cousins, Lila, Knight, Sean, and Cody were staying here for the entire week.
"We know your awake Nila!" The kids shouted from behind the door as they tried in their best efforts to open the door. Nila tried her very best to keep the door closed but it slowly started to crack open and just when she was about to lose the battle, her moms voice could be heard from downstairs quickly followed by little kid groans and whines before it went completely silent.
Nila kept the door closed for a moment or two before a small little knocking could be heard. "Nila? It alright. It me Cody." Cody. The only one of her cousins she actually loves with all of her soul. Unlike all the rest of them, Cody was almost like Nila in a way. He had the same black hair, blue eyes, and almost pale looking skin. The only differences is gender, the way he dresses, and a little bit of personality. Cody was shy and unsocial most of the times yet he still loved to go outside to places like Walmart or just a simple Cafe.
Nila opens the door slowly and smiles at her little cousin. "Hey Cody." She says softly. "What's mom cooking for dinner hmm?" She asks the small kid. He rubs his eyes and yawns. "Uh, she cookin...oatmeal I think." he says. Nila just thinks for a moment. Mom's oatmeal was...alright. Good enough to distract the kids while her and Cody go somewhere else to eat. "Alright then. Let me get dressed and we'll go somewhere else." She says as she invites the kid in and heads for her walk in closet.
After a few minutes of putting on clothes, brushing and ironing her hair, and putting on a small amount of make up, she heads out of the closet and sticks a note on her door saying her and Cody went to get something to eat. She grabs her keys and walks out of the door quickly followed by Cody. As Nila approached her car, a thought appeared in mind. It was about Joseph and the place he was talking about.
Have lunch there eh...? She thinks with a smile. Hmm let us see who gets to the hotel first this morning. Like her, Cody wasn't afraide of just about anything. Taking him to the hotel might be a little risky but she knew he would enjoy it.
Once again morning arrived and the building came alive again, Basilisk could hear movement from the food court, despite spending all night watching he thought that it would appropriate go there even if he doesn't have the intention of eating this day.
Despite that the overall performance from the last night was good for him personally it was a failure, not only the eldest learned that were intruders but even the little ones, he had been very slow on this occasion, the fact that the intruders were teenagers, very different from addicts or vagrants, make him doubt and that doubt made the whole building to find out. Even Luca, Basilisk hear his maniacal laughter when the intruders were leaving and the sound of his hammer indicated him that he wasn't the only one to spend the night awake.
When he get to the food court he heard that they were talking about going to the town, "I'll go..." said from the door, thinking that at least he could ensure that nothing will happen to people who leave the building, "Good morning" he said after look at his family, family that he was going to protect without a shred of mercy the next time.
