My breast began to enlarge and was painful, odd for a man. I kind of thought I should lay off the weed for a bit. I had a dull ache in the lower abdomen, accompanied by the flu, but linger after the flu was gone. I didn't realize till we had that late night out by the lake, under the brilliant stars, on the plush blanket, that it hurt. After that night, I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with testicular cancer. You only need one...is what they tell me.
My only regret is that I never got to use either one, before I died.......

This West Coast boy is a natural brunette but highlights his hair golden blonde "the girls like it better that way...of course the soft waves and curls get them to swoon, as well." What seems to catch their attention the most is his lively dimpled smile and how he boyishly blushes. His eyes reflect the underneath of a pine branch, with its dark green needles. His tall, ripped, muscular built, turn heads on the beach, and he plays it up with the skimpiest of swimwear. He adores his hands with rings of varies styles and feel. His dress is quirky, yet casual, to formal and fun.

There was a whisper in the darkness. Then another. More followed, but even if one were to attempt to make them out, they would fail. The murmurs seemed to be no more than wind through dry leaves, but the shadowy figures they originated from were certainly not wind. Furthermore, they seemed to be communicating with these voiceless whispers, turning gleaming eyes on each other. At their feet, lay several bodies, seemingly unmoving. Possibly dead. No. One figure stirred slightly, and the figures all turned towards it, heads whipping viciously to stare at it. They did not stop until they were sure the person was not awake.

There was another sound. This one very clear; a snicker. More whispers followed, and then the figures all nodded in agreement. It was past due. Another game would be held. They glanced down to the ground once more. Yes, the group looked promising. More whispers ensued as the figures attempted to determine how to get them to play the game. Waking to the place they were in would a shock, but the figures could not stay to give them a warm welcome. On the other hand, if they simply left, the Lost Ones would be upon them in instants.

The figures settled on erecting a protective shield around the group. It would protect them from any wandering Lost Ones, at least until the figures wanted them unprotected. On the tree nearby, a message was scratched into the bark, large and impossible to miss. "YOU ARE DEAD" it declared helpfully, in incredibly large letters. Slightly smaller, beneath it, more words were etched. They read, "But you can change that." There was a smiley face, strangely enough, an insulting ":)" carved into the tree. The message continued. "Please remain calm and await the Protectors' return. We will find you shortly. In the meantime, grow acquainted with the people near you. These are the people who will help you regain your life. Or destroy any chances of that. Instructions will follow our return. Again. Please remain calm."

And that was it. A cryptic, incredibly unhelpful message left by shadowy figures that were likely not to be trusted. But around the group of fallen bodies, a large forest lie, stretching out as far the eye could see and frighteningly dark. The forest seemed to be in perpetual dusk, never brightening. A frail source of light came from above, in the form of a full moon. That never changed either. Combined with the rolling mist that coated the air around them, the entire space seemed like something straight from an eerie nightmare.

She could remember the air whipping around her as she fell but she couldn't remember the concrete. Every bone that snapped, every organ impaled, every dying signal flashing in her brain... So when Grace awoke, she expected something else entirely. A hospital bed? A couch? But not a waking nightmare. As her eyes fluttered open, all before her lay a twisted visage of horror. And she was not alone. There were others, equally stunned, waking to this strange place. She covered her mouth, stifling a scream. She just wanted to be home. Where was David?

As she looked for a familiar face, she noticed the words etched on the tree. It's announcement of her death caused a nervous laugh to erupt from her slender throat. It couldn't be. She had just gotten free. How could it all have just ended? Just like that? Her heart has beating like a wild drum in her head. Grace was frozen in panic, holding herself tightly. With short, terrified breaths, she read the rest of the message. With a titter, she said, "Calm? How are we supposed to remain calm?" She turned to the others in the crowd. Each one a stranger to her... Who would help her? She has spent a lifetime at the mercy of others... and she was expected to spend her afterlife doing the same? She felt so helplessly alone.

He woke with a start and with a quick glance at his surroundings, convinced himself he was in a dream. Nothing on earth could be so frightening, so unnerving as this place. It had to be drudged up from his subconscious, in the darkest corners of his mind. Others were there, perhaps figments of his imagination or aspects of his personality? He wracked his brain, pulling bits and pieces of his class in Jungian Psychology. What could the be? The little blond one, the girl who became hysterical, had to be an inner child. She was so fragile and helpless. As he judged the others, it was difficult to tell. The redhead was easy. She looked as if pulled from a magazine. She had to be his Anima. As for the rest, he would know in time.

It was then he noticed the tree. A message was written on the bark, announcing his death. So that was it. He remembered being shot. He was out with friends. He went outside alone and suddenly someone jumped him. It was over before it began. He remembered the horror in the man's face as the gun went off. He probably didn't even realize it was loaded. It wasn't enough for him to leave his wallet though. Then he was in the hospital, clinging to life. It was so obvious. He must be in a coma. He had heard of people having strange dreams in their comatose state but not quite like this.

As he finished the tree, he took a long breath, in and out. Remain calm... Easier said than done. He had known he would die someday as everyone does. He just didn't want it to be now. But was he really prepared to take this on? Whatever it was?

"I guess we should... introduce ourselves?" he said with a hesitancy in his voice. It seemed absurd but maybe if he knew what each represented to him, he'd be able to wake up and go on with his life. Or at least die trying.

Time Unknown || Location Unknown

Riley had been floating through the darkness for days. Unable to see, unable to hear, unable to feel, yet still there, living. The last thing he remembered was the steady beep of the heart monitor and the subtle, fading words of his parents. And then, he awoke. But not to the Hospital. Not to his parents, not to his doctors, not to the steady beeps of medical equipment or the smell of chemicals or the bright white Hospital walls.

No, instead he awoke to a forest.

At first he simply sat there. Is this heaven? That was the first thought. No, it couldn't be heaven, this was a forest. A creepy one at that. Sitting up, the first thing he noticed was that there were other people there. A blonde girl, a redheaded girl, a brunette guy. There were some other bodies on the ground around him. None that he recognized...wait. One he did recognize. Kai, one of his old college friends, was laying not three feet away.

Riley was scared. The six foot tall genius was scared. Scrambling over to where his friend lay, he realized they weren't awake. Kai had never liked being woken from a slumber so instead of waking them Riley turned to what the others were looking at. It appeared to be a tree. He didn't feel any more secure after reading the cryptic message carved into the bark, and the creepy smiley face made it all worse. Where in Gods name were they? Was this all some sort of cruel joke? Or was this Hell itself?

The redhead was the first to speak. How were they supposed to remain calm in this type of situation? It made no sense! Riley looked around to see if anyone else had woken up. None so far. Next to say something was the brunette guy, who said something about introducing themselves. It seemed someone was taking an initiative. Not that it seemed like it would help.

"W-well, if we're going to introduce ourselves...I guess I could start..."

Riley's voice stammered for the first time in several years. Added to that, his words were quiet, and he could already feel a blush flowing to his cheeks.

"My name's Riley, Riley Jenkins..."

The consistent beeps of the machines had become background music for Evan, reminding him he was alive. His pain was dulled by the morphine drip, resulting in euphoria state in his mind. Currently he was aboard a yellow submarine, with a huge sombrero and a psychedelic tutu, with no underwear. "Who needs underwear when you have nothing left to support."he kept singing to his shipmates. "Balls to the Walls Men!" Evans shouted, then took another sip from his tippy cup, as the submarine sped to 100% of its power and into the darkness.

An eerie snicker woke Evan, while his eyes attempted to accumulate to the darkness, he lay frozen in fear. The moist wetness offended his nose. "You are not in Kansas anymore." He was not alone; there were whispers, laughter, call outs, moans and gnashing of teeth. Evan panic; got up, started running, tripping over root and rocks. "I'm in hell. I'm in hell" then he ran into this tall willow man "My name's Riley, Riley Jenkins..." Sobbing, "Where am I? Riley pointed at the tree.

YOU ARE DEAD

The rest of the message read like the adults sounded in a Charlie Brown cartoon....blah blah blah, a higher pitched blah blah blah, then Evan realized the high pitch was him screaming.

Somewhere, in the back of Kai's mind, there was the steady honking of a horn. Two concentrated beams of bright lights danced before their eyes, and then reflected off a suspiciously shiny surface before them. Their eyes widened, hands gripping the steering wheel, jerking it to one side in a last ditch attempt to swerve out of danger. But it was too late.

They awoke gasping, suddenly, and to darkness. A voice drifted out, strangely enough, it was familiar. "...ley. Riley Jenkins." Kai blinked. No, no. That was impossible. A friend of theirs from college, Kai had personally gone to visit him in the hospital. Their head turned towards the origin of the sound, but their eyes could still not penetrate the darkness. They waited a moment for their eyes to adjust.

Clearly, Kai was dreaming. Likely, they imagined, they probably had their forehead slammed against the steering wheel when the crash happened. Knocked out cold, they must've been. But they couldn't explain how it was that Riley would show up in a dream. Wait, hadn't they read that the unconscious don't dream? Something about REM sleep and theta waves or something or other. But then... where were they?

A scream interrupted their thoughts, pulled them back to reality. Or the dream. Whatever this plane of existence was. Cautiously pulling themselves to their feet, Kai moved towards Riley, now standing next to the screaming man. "Riley?" they whispered, eyes searching for a possible reason. But the screaming grew to be too much. Kai turned towards the wailing blonde, placing a hand on his shoulder, speaking in the firmest tone they could muster given the circumstances. "Hey. Calm down. Get a hold of yourself, you're not helping the situation." Any other day, any other moment, they'd have made an effort to be a tad more tactful, but fear was setting upon them too. Their eyes fell on the tree, the carved message, and they scanned it quickly. A breathy chuckle hauled itself from their throat.

"Dead," they recited from the bark, "we're dead." Another short, nervous laugh. "I don't think I have much of a choice but to believe that, so..." They swallowed, harsh in their throat, before turning to face the others who were standing. Their chest contracted, heavy breaths forcing their way into closed off lungs. Could they breath? They forced themselves to, closing their eyes for a short moment. "Ah, hello, I'm Kai, and I'm pretty sure this isn't a dream. I mean, none of us have those totems like in Inception, which would probably be useful right now, so I can't be completely sure, but..." They paused again, regrouping their thoughts. Shuffling slightly, they coughed once. "Uh, anyways. It's nice to meet all of you." An unsure, half-hearted attempt at a smile quirked their lips up slightly as their heart thudded wildly in their chest.

Current Thoughts || "What the hell...?"

Everything hurt. If the strawberry blonde beauty could move, she would address every injury her dear fiance caused. But everything was dark. She felt paralyzed. Her brain was working hard to understand exactly was going on, but from the moment her husband showed his precious soon to be bride the different knives she knew. She had to be dead. The woman remembers her body running cold as the blood drained from her and stained the Egyptian cotton sheets. She can remember thrashing around and pulling against the handcuffs. She could remember her perfectly sculpted husband, whispering how much her loved her and that this was the right thing to do. But then she remembered sirens. Heavy footsteps. Being freed. But that was all she could remember. Her brain stopped working for her after hands she didn't recognize reached her body. And now she was sure that she was dead. Darkness was caressing her and she could stay in it's arms for eternity. Hazel... She didn't know where the noise was coming from. But it was controlling the darkness. The gentle hold it had started to tighten. Pain. Something she was quite familiar with.

Hazel! The poor girl shot up and looked around. Again engulfed in darkness, but she could make out other people and trees. A forest? If this was supposed to be Hell then the Devil would have to do better. Hazel was created more Hell than whatever this was supposed to be. People were also just as confused as she was. Maybe even more so. Looking ahead she couldn't miss the giant bold phrase.

You Are Dead

Unlike some of them, Hazel wasn't really freaking out. Hazel already assumed she was dead, but as she continued to read on, there was more to this death. And there was a reason that there were other people here with her. Also dead. ...Riley Jenkins... Introductions? With other dead people. This was rather strange. And then a banshee like scream rang through out the forest. Hazel quickly covered her ears, praying to whatever demon put her here to make it stop. Finally it did and another dead person was dealing with the source who happened to be another freaked out dead person. Clearly he didn't think he was going to die. He must have been aware that he was alive before getting here. Or he was freaking out because of where they were. "Ah, hello, I'm Kai, and I'm pretty sure this isn't a dream. I mean, none of us have those totems like in Inception, which would probably be useful right now, so I can't be completely sure, but... She drowned him out after a while.

Hazel was looking around at the people she was stuck with some time. She didn't know what to think. The strawberry blonde knew nothing about them. Not their strengths. Not their weaknesses. Not their fears. Nothing. She isn't used to being around people she hadn't yet figured out. After some silence after Kai spoke, she decided to make herself known. "I'm Hazel." Last names weren't necessary. "Besides whats clearly posted on the tree, does anyone understand what is going on?"

It was the sound of Evan screaming that stunned her to silence. It rattled in her brain, removing all sense and peeling away the panic that pounded in her chest. It was as if the sound had leeched away all her fear. Maybe it was because chaos was something she knew, something she understood. She was born walking on glass and learned quickly to do it with a smile on her face. Or maybe the panic had swelled and burst until all that was left was a cold numbness.

"Um... you...," she said timidly, taking a step towards Evan. "It's going to be okay," Her small voice broke. Even she knew it was a stupid thing to say. It was far from okay. But it wasn't hopeless. Whatever they were, wherever they were, they were standing. Maybe it would be okay? She placed a hand on his shoulder. He felt warm, as if alive, or maybe she was just cold in comparison. But it was comforting to know they were real.

She turned to the others. Already they were formulating ideas that would soon turn into plans. Grace was a fraud among them. She had no idea what to do. She had never been to a church. Her mother would probably burn before she made it to the door. Grace didn't know anything about religion. She had heard of limbo but not much more than what she had seen in movies and TV. When Hazel asked what was going on, Grace answered simply, "Well, we're dead," She bit her bottom lip, knowing the answer was stupid. She had meant to say they were in limbo but she didn't want to make herself look more idiotic. She didn't have a way with words. That was David and David was too far away.

Time Unknown || Location Unknown

Riley felt much more at ease when Kai spoke, indicating that they were awake and not stuck in a never ending coma like he had been in at the Hospital. Kai had been the only person to come visit him at the Hospital during his final days, save his parents, who refused to leave the room. They had been there for him when none of his other friends were, and it made Riley feel better to know that there was a friend with him in this creepy hellhole of a dream.

When Kai did speak, they calmed down the guy who was screaming in a manner that suggested experience with the situation. Or perhaps Kai was just a leaderly person. After the screaming male had been calmed down Kai introduced their self. Then, the redhead introduced herself, whose name was Hazel. Next came Grace, and lastly Julian, who spoke directly to Riley.

"Ah, hello, I'm Kai, and I'm pretty sure this isn't a dream. I mean, none of us have those totems like in Inception, which would probably be useful right now, so I can't be completely sure, but...uh, anyways. It's nice to meet all of you."

Kai was the first to make a statement, trying to explain the situation, even though the effort was futile.

"The tree or whatever will tell us what to do. We just have to wait."

Julian had the same idea as Kai. More or less, the two were both trying to do something, rather than screaming or standing there in shock. They would likely become the leaders of the group if this did indeed become more than just a really bad dream. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that. The Hunger Games, Maze Runner, all the movies of situations like this simply popped into Riley's head. All he could really do was hope that this was just a dream, and nothing more.

His panic burst into screams, leaving Evan oblivious they were welling up from within him. A timid, young girl try to console him It's going to be okay," He looked at her confused, briefly stopped, then his muddled mind force another series of screams.

The piercing shrieks struck a nerve with a girl with short dark hair, she firmly commanded him "Calm down. Get a hold of yourself, you're not helping the situation." Evan looked up into her kind green eyes and silence his wails to whimpers and attempt to calm his racing heart.

He sat in shock; rocking back and forth, hands in lap, eyes focused on something not there. The rambling incoherent voices around him, were disjointed and obscured. He quietly hummed "Juliet's Waltz" to himself.

Kai's eyes darted around the ragtag group people gathered around the tree. All of them had varying reactions to the news they were hit over the head with. The brunette with the relaxed shoulders, Julian, Kai had caught in their earlier haze, he seemed to be the calmest. The blonde beside them was still in shock, shaking, whimpering, but at least his screams were no longer piercing the night--did night exist here?-- sky. They breathed in deep. Someone had to help him. With a soft sigh, they knelt beside the whimpering figure, being sure not to touch him lest they cause more discomfort. Softly, in the most soothing voice they could muster, they tried to calm him. "You're okay, man, breathe in, breathe out." They tried to focus on positive reinforcement, recalling a health psych elective they had taken last year, and not telling him to do anything like calm down or get a hold of himself like they had so callously done a few moments ago. As they spoke, they continued to examine the people around them.

There was a girl who had also spoken to the screamer earlier. She seemed scared. Logical enough, but given the circumstances, being easily frightened was not going to help. Kai would have to keep an eye her, make sure she didn't freak out. There was also a red-head, pretty, and clearly disgusted with the situation at hand. Strange reaction. Kai wondered if perhaps it hadn't sunk in yet. They'd have to admit that Hazel wouldn't be the only victim of this. Kai themself was sure that the only reason they were able to maintain such a cool exterior was because the reality of the situation. So they were dead. Sure. They wondered how much longer they could remain detached from what was happening. Perhaps that's the only reason any of them were calm.

Julian spoke, and Kai turned their attention back to the people. Apparently another one had woken up. Though he wasn't moving, merely lying still on the ground. Kai hoped they weren't injured or, worse, another screamer. They stood, brushing off their knees. "Julian's right. No point in freaking out about this. Besides," they made a gesture to the dark, haunting trees around them, "who knows what's out there. We'd be better off sticking together and staying in one place." Out of the corner of their eye, they examined Riley's lanky figure. They had to admit they were a little scared to talk to him. He was the only one there they recognized, and somewhere deep inside, they were frightened that speaking to him would shatter any kind of illusion this was, and perhaps awaken them to an even more horrifying one.

Adam took the few minutes he needed to recuperate mentally, then lolled his head to the side. Strangers, he saw. Not a single recognizable face. They had all grouped up slightly away from him. Too absorbed in his thoughts, he blocked out what they were saying. He figured they'd be distracted by their own devices. He could slip off into the woo-- No. No, that was crazy-talk. He KNEW he had just died. He KNEW he was in some un-earthly place. What the hell would he do alone? He took a deep, shaky breath and then looked to the other side of him. He saw before him a decent length branch from one of the trees above, and decided it would make a decent weapon in case anyone tried anything. Adam had learned in his time alive that people are far more likely to settle matters with their fists, not their words.

Adam pushed energy into his tired muscles and heaved himself to his feet, swiftly grabbing the stick in his hands and pushing his back up against a tree so he could have eyes on the whole group. He quickly tried to analyze the situation, and very soon found that no one seemed up for a fight. There was one guy on the ground in a pool of his own tears, one woman that looked remarkably disgusted by the man's weakness, and the rest just appeared confused. He counted them up. 7 total, including himself. Then he noticed the tree.

Image

Adam wasn't sure what to say. He had just attempted to hang himself, succeeded, then all of a sudden ended up in some... place with a bunch of strangers before a tree with a cryptic message on it. The message had sent shudders down his spine in a way even the most well-written novel never could have. Adam gripped the length of wood harder, his eyes jumping from person to person.

In that moment, he remembered. He remembered the photograph of his mother. He frantically patted his pockets to find it, and when he did he clutched it to his chest in relief, his eyes never leaving the others. As his mind wandered vainly trying to find an explanation, a logical deduction as to why this was happening, he realized that he was alone to fend for himself here. He would have to step up his game if he wanted to survive. It's now or never, and Adam took the initiative.

With a newfound courage, he spoke.

"Who the fuck are you people, and why am I here?"

Adam assured himself that if anyone approached, he'd brandish the branch to scare them off.

Adam swung a branch towards them and Julian immediately jumped to attention. Perhaps he should have seen it coming. Everyone was under a lot of stress. Eventually tempers would come to a head. No, no.. this was a dream. He wasn't dead. There was no way he could be dead. Yet as he held his hands up, he vaguely felt a sense of deja vu. Why was this so familiar? Oh that's right... That night... It began to swim in his mind. There was a man with a gun, demanding money. He had been so scattered and shaky. The gun had gone off and put him there. Funny thing was, Julian would have given him the money.

He felt a hot pain in his chest at the thought of that night, as if the wound was opening wide. A sharp panic clutched his throat. No... he wasn't dead. This was a dream. This man only served to scare him. Julian retreated to the safety of his denial and concluded that this stranger had to be the Shadow. He had to represent all the darkness of Julian's own personality, including his own fear of his mortality. There was much to fear. Julian had barely started in life. He had all the ambition, idealism and passion held close to him like a rocket but he wore lead shoes. He intended to do something great but he never got around to it. This stranger couldn't stop him now.

"Hey, calm down!" he said louder than he had intended. "We're not here to hurt you. We're woke up, just like you. We all read the message on the tree," he tried to smile, hoping to lighten Adam's mood, make him feel safe. However, Adam didn't look like he wanted to be comforted. "You have every reason to be afraid. We are too but it's going to be okay," He took a step forward, arming himself mentally that any hurt or pain he experienced in his dream wasn't real. "If we work together, it'll be okay," He swallowed hard, unsure of what Adam's reaction would be.

Everyone was already coming up with plans, taking charge. Grace was surprised to find herself a little bored. Once she got past the nightmare landscape, it became a little dull. Like a camping trip. Her mind began to wander as they talked to each other. She began to fidget, shifting her weight between feet. Finally she sat next to Evan.

He was humming something. It sounded familiar, something David would have hummed. She brought her knees up to her chest and twiddled her toes. Finally she turned to Evan, watching him rock back and forth. "I fell out of a window...," Just hearing it out loud felt both terrifying and freeing. "I was trying to feed a bird... stupid I know," Even if he wasn't listening, at least it made her feel real.

"But we might get a second chance... That's more then a lot of people," she tried to sound comforting, to herself as well as Evan. She even smiled. It was the one gift she had. She could smile in the worst of circumstances. Things appeared to be calming down and then sudden Adam started a commotion.

She turned her head, wrapping her arms around her legs. As he brandished the branch and shouted, she looked towards the woods. If he started attacking people, her only option was the woods. She would all alone. It was a fate worse than death and she would know.

Time Unknown || Location Unknown

Everything seemed to just be getting worse and worse in Riley's eyes. One of the guys - who had somehow moved across the entire clearing without being noticed - was suddenly swinging a branch around at everyone, demanding to know who they were and what was happening. Julian tried talking the guy down, to get him from attacking the others or hurting himself or something.

Meanwhile, Grace had gotten into a one-sided sort of conversation with the guy who'd been screaming. He had calmed down quite considerably and had finally gotten around to reading the message on the tree. Hazel hadn't said anything in a while and Kai seemed to be simply observing, same as Riley was doing himself.

"Funny thing happened to me... on my way here.... in my submarine...um... I guess that's another story...I'm Evan."

Riley turned to see that the guy - Evan, apparently - had started talking to them and was obviously no longer freaked out. That definitely helped. It was hard enough to think about anything in this place, and the loud, high-pitched screaming didn't make it any easier. Based on his words Evan seemed to be an awkward kind of person, similar to Riley but a bit more...odd.

So far Riley hadn't been able to talk to any of the others directly, and although he could put names to faces he couldn't distinguish who would be the leader and who would be the fall. It was aggravating, and it made Riley severely uncomfortable to know that any one of them could be a possible menace.

Then Riley remembered Kai was there also. Turning he saw them off to the side, watching everyone with a keen eye. He made his way over to them and sat on the grass nearby, saying nothing, bringing his knees up to his chest to watch the events unfold as they surely would at some point.

Current Thoughts || I need to return to my Christopher

"Who the fuck are you people, and why am I here?" If only Hazel knew the answer to either of those questions. Everyone wanted to wait for something before decided what they should do. Hazel voted getting the hell away from the tree. Looking over to the man that was clearly upset, scared, and confused she rolled her eyes. They were all confused and there was no need to be all hostile about it. They all read the same tree. Woke up in the same place. And were waiting. So they were all in this together. If he couldn't understand that then maybe he should have just stayed on the floor. Julian seemed to have found it in himself to calm him down. Hazel didn't really want to do it. She didn't want to deal with anyone here. She just wanted answers. "If we work together, it'll be okay," Don't laugh. Don't laugh She repeated that to herself over and over again in her head until the will to laugh passed over. Work together. Hazel wasn't exactly a team player.

"I fell out of a window...I was trying to feed a bird... stupid I know So the blonde wasn't the brightest light bulb in the lighthouse. Falling out of a window. Hazel couldn't imagine falling. Probably being pushed out. Or thrown. But accidently falling out? Not likely. "But we might get a second chance... That's more than a lot of people." A smile came to the strawberry blondes face. A second chance. A chance to reunite with her Christopher and do to him what he did to her. That sounded like the chance of a lifetime. Now she was liking the idea of not going to hell. "Funny thing happened to me... on my way here.... in my submarine.....um... I guess that's another story...... I'm Evan. He was clearly shy. Didn't like attention.

Well since they were explaining how they died might as well tell them how the unstoppable Hazel Von Pellum was stopped. "My husband cut me and let me bleed out to death." She was wondering if there were scars on her body. "I really hope this is a second chance." she added.

A lot happened before Kai could even really blink. First, the man who had been simply lying where he was finally stood. And promptly began freaking out. They sighed a little at the sight. Had their words gone entirely unheard? Possibly. He could've been in some kind of a fugue state for all they knew. Julian went to calm the man down, and Kai decided to let him fully take the reigns. He seemed to have it under control anyways, and it would do them good to observe how he handled a situation like that anyways. Thus far, he seemed to be the calmest, the most logical, most capable. Kai wondered what his secret was. You don't just wake up in a strange place, get told you're dead, and still manage to keep your wits about you. Even Kai was panicking. Internally, of course, but their mind was still racing, chest still constricting. The physical manifestation of their panic was their nails incessantly tapping against their knuckles.

Then the sweet girl, the quiet one, took a seat next to the screamer--no longer the screamer, so they'd have to learn his name soon-- and told him her tale of woe. Falling out a window. Terrible way to go. The humming stopped, and Kai turned their head to see the previous screamer reading the tree once more. Or perhaps for the first time. Kai could see how it may have been difficult to get past the first sentence. Ah, so Evan was his name. They liked him a lot better now that he wasn't piercing their ear drums.

Following his introduction, the redheaded girl who had seemed the most against following the instructions laid out for them--Hazel, they recalled-- followed the quiet one's lead, also stating her cause of death. As she did, Riley moved over, sitting near them. Kai's eyes followed him the whole way there. They broke their gaze to glance at Hazel. Gory. They wondered if she had done anything to drive him to that point, or she really had the horrible misfortune to marry a flat out psychopath.

Their eyes turned once more to Riley. "It was a car crash for me. Rainy night. Probably drunk off his ass driver." They spoke loudly, ensuring the people around heard, but they continued to maintain eye contact with Riley, as though they intended the message for him. Kai knew how he had died, it was fairly obvious, but they were sure he must've been curious as to how they ended up in the same boat.

There was a beat of silence from them as they couldn't help but return to moment of their death. The horns reverberated in their head, their heart pace quickened as they recalled the panic they felt as they tried and failed to swerve out of the way of the towering pole they had been forced into path of. Pulling in a shaky breath, they turned to face the man still warily holding the branch in front of his torso. "Exactly. Working together, that's the only way we're going to get out of this nightmare."

Adam's eyes locked with those of the man approaching him as the stranger pleaded with him to cease and desist. Adam pressed his heel into the dirt and gritted his teeth as the others began speaking up about their deaths out loud. Adam's eyes never stopped flicking from person to person as they procured the means of their deaths. Everyone that spoke appeared to have an emotional trial when it came to speaking of their own passing. Falling from a window, A drunk driver, and surely more to come. All except for one woman. She spoke of it as if it was an inconvenience. Like someone would speak of an accident blocking traffic on their way to work.

Stabbed? By her HUSBAND? Fuck. That doesn't just HAPPEN. She must have done something to provoke him. A girl with her looks... And stature. She'd have the very cream of the crop. There's no way she had married a psychopath. OR maybe she did. You never know now-a-days. She appeared to Adam as one of the antagonists from a bad Lifetime Network movie. He's have to keep an eye on her especially.

Adam steeled himself. He would never let slip the cause of his death. No matter how badly he would want to vent, he would never let it out. If they found out he had attempted suicide, they would be on him in an instant. They would see him for the weak being he truly was. Adam turned back to the man approaching him, growling a response as he put the weapon between them.

"We're all just caged animals. You know what caged animals do? Survival of the fittest. Who's to say you won't cave my skull in with a stone the moment I trust you out of my sight?"

Adam scanned the rest of the group again. Very few eyes lay upon him, while a majority seemed weary. Tired. Apathetically surrendered to whatever fate may be laid upon them. At least at this very moment they were. They had all suffered death. That would leave one weary, Adam noted. One man with puffy red eyes spoke something about a submarine. He was muttering, so Adam couldn't make much of it out, but he could tell he was vainly attempting to communicate. Possibly diffuse the situation? With that, Adam realized that no one seemed to care about him or his hostility. He swallowed again as a woman (?) spoke to him from across the clearing. Teamwork, she says. Trust, they say.

Adam finally gave in to the fact that no one cared about his outburst, and that he hadn't scared anyone. If they wanted to attack him, they would have done it without a second thought. Defeated, Adam lowered the weapon.

"Fine. Fine. Just... Piss off, okay? Leave me be. I won't fuck with you if you don't fuck with me. Okay?"

He spat, addressing the man approaching him. It was going to take a long while to trust anyone here. These were dire circumstances.

Adam added sarcastically, addressing the rest of the group.

"I apologize for my incredibly inappropriate behavior. I was just spooked. I think I saw a ghost. Or Six. I don't remember."

Adam huffed and sat against the tree, scrounging for a stone around it's base. He started scraping bits away from the end of his club, turning it into a crude spear.

"A submarine? Are you a sailor?" she asked. Grace felt more at ease, knowing the others had stories of their own. Every one once had a beating heart. She wondered if hers would ever beat again. But how could she ever win? She wasn't strong. She wasn't smart. No matter what she did, she'd have to deal with the reality that her life was over. Suddenly her eyes began to water. Grace looked at her feet.

Then Hazel began to speak of her own story. The tragedy of their circumstances became all the more horrifying. She hoped Hazel got her chance. She hoped they would all get their chance. But how this opportunity was to present itself, was still a mystery? They couldn't just sit there and roast marshmallows... She dragged her naked toe on the ground and absentmindedly said, "I wish we had marshmallows,"

Grace wondered if they could even eat in their state. Whatever their state was. From the corner of her eye, she watched Adam sharpen a spear. She wondered who could even get killed out here. With a skip, she meandered over to the tree. Her fingers stroked the bark. "Maybe we should ask it what to do?" It was silly but what could it hurt? She leaned close to the tree, and whispered, "What should we do?" She glanced back at the others and her face flushed to a bright red.

The atmosphere was melancholy and bleak; yet slowly the group started sharing their stories, communicating, interacting or at least something that resembled that. Evan observed people, and to him this meant progress. In the life before, Evan was loved by everyone. He was sincere, amusing, generous and charming. His drug of choice was interacting with people. This made him an outstanding and beloved professor.

To everyone, yet to no one specific. "I am.... I mean... I was not a sailor. I was a music conductor at Syracuse University. The submarine was a delightful diversion from my extraordinary medical condition. I mean who the hell gets testicular cancer?" As Evan looked at the blank faces, it occurred to him everyone was normal looking. No blood, no open wounds, no bruises, it was at that moment a crazy thought came into his head. Evan turned his back on everyone and reached down and felt his package. To self,"Um... one, two" Hollering and jumping up and down like a child on a pogo stick, " I'M BACK.... I'M BACK, IT'S THERE I HAVE TWO!!"

Wiping his tears, the realization that he hollered that out loud sunk in; although he was clearly embarrassed, he could not contained his smile. Apparently his excitement was overwhelming for the others. The guy who was sharpening his spear, seemed rather annoyed. The others looked at him like they did the first time....... in complete silence.

"It is obvious we need a plan. First we need to realize we are not ghost but real living flesh." To prove his point Evan strolled over to Grace, took her slender shape in his arms, lightly caressed her face with his hand, tilled his head and gently kissed her sweet lips. Pulling away, "See, I felt that, she felt that. Look at yourselves. You have no wounds, blood or bruises from your deaths. In fact you don't even have scars. We have been made whole and perfect again. Why in the hell are we waiting for someone else to decide our faith?"
