Time Unknown || Location Unknown

Slowly but surely, the others started sharing their deaths. Kai had been killed in a car accident. That made Riley feel bad, considering she was the last person he'd expect to be killed in a crash. Grace had fallen out of a window. Hazel...Hazel had been murdered. By her husband. That was definitely a cruel thing, but it also made Riley think harder about his own death. Was it really so bad? He could've been murdered instead...

At the moment, Riley felt cornered. Everyone was telling each other how they'd died and eventually the conversation would come to him. He still felt uneasy and embarrassed about how he'd died. Losing his speech, his sight, his movement...it had been hard for him. But murder still sounded worse. Falling out of a window accidentally sounded worse. Being killed by another car on a road sounded worse.

"I had ALS...Lou Gehrig's disease..."

Riley blurted it out. He wanted so bad to hide, to not let show how upset the thought made him. But there were worse things to think about right now than the way he'd died. What was going to happen? Were they really going to wait for whatever the tree said was coming? And if they did try to brave the forest on their own, who would lead them? How would they survive? At the moment only one person out of the seven had a working weapon.

"It is obvious we need a plan. First we need to realize we are not ghost but real living flesh."

Evan spoke up first, which was surprising considering the fact he'd been bawling his eyes out only a few minutes ago. Then, as if to prove the point he was making, he walked over to where Grace was standing and...kissed her. Riley personally thought it was an invasion of Grace's space and also harassment, but at the moment perhaps that wasn't what mattered. Evan was right.

"See, I felt that, she felt that. Look at yourselves. You have no wounds, blood or bruises from your deaths. In fact you don't even have scars. We have been whole and perfect again. Why in the hell are we waiting for someone else to decide our fate?"

Riley had nothing to say, so he didn't try to add anything to the conversation. He'd probably just make it awkward.

Current Thoughts||I will not be a sitting duck

"I apologize for my incredibly inappropriate behavior. I was just spooked. I think I saw a ghost. Or Six. I don't remember." Hazel couldn't help, but smile. The sarcasm was clear and thick. It was nice that someone could make her smile in a time like this. When he was feeling less hostile, she would have to go up to him and thank him for the giggle. But not right now. Right now they were trying to figure out what was going on. Besides the deaths. Besides the tragedy. Besides the waiting. What was the next move. "Okay, I say if this tree thing doesn't start directing us soon, we should come up with a plan. It's silly to just stand here... Does anyone else have any ideas?" One of them. Finally someone is starting to understand that waiting by the tree wasn't the perfect plan. They don't even know what is out there. Being sitting ducks wasn't going to ensure their safety. In all honesty, this could be where they all die. Again. Hazel wasn't really keen about the first time she died. "I wish we had marshmallows," The random comment interrupted Hazel's thoughts. "I'm allergic to marshmallows"

They make her throat swell up. Very dangerous stuff. But then another thought came to Hazel. While in limbo, is she allergic to anything. What terrible things did she have to avoid as a human that she could embrace now? She would love to try peanuts for the first time. Those also make her throat swell up. "It is obvious we need a plan. First we need to realize we are not ghost but real living flesh." All eyes were on the screamer. He was walking over to the blonde that mentioned marshmallows. And then he kissed her. Was this really the time for finding love? "See, I felt that, she felt that. Look at yourselves. You have no wounds, blood or bruises from your deaths. In fact you don't even have scars. We have been made whole and perfect again. Why in the hell are we waiting for someone else to decide our faith?" Hazel thought about that. He was right. No pain. No scars. No blood. It was like she wasn't even killed. Almost as if she woke up someone else. Now she was starting to like that one too. Took everyone long enough to see it her way.

Looking around, she saw no one was saying anything else. Hazel stood up and brushed her strawberry blonde hair over her shoulder. "I think we should give these "people" five more minutes to show up and then we venture out into the forest. Granted we don't know what's going on and I think it would be better if we go as a group than having one of us run off." Hazel said, loosely crossing her arms.

Sarcastic comments from the stick wielding man followed Kai's proclamation of the necessity of teamwork. Typical. They could only sigh in response, softly, under their breath. Their annoyance only increased at his sharpening of the stick he held. While they assumed weapons would be necessary in the long-run, any attempt to create some now, especially after his very public declaration of distrust, could only serve to strain the already frail tension. Taking a leadership class in college, the supposed, was easy. Dealing with the real thing was not. Especially if everyone was stressed. Or dead. Dead, they figured, was quite possibly worse than stressed.

Kai glanced in Stick Man's direction. As he sat, forcing the wood to chip off with each shove of the stone, they wondered if he was right. It was beginning to seem more and more as though they really some kind of caged animals. They turned their attention to Julian as he began to speak. Despite only having heard him speak a few times, Kai figured he was the most rational here. There were others that weren't screaming, weren't forging make-shift weapons, were, all in all, being very level-headed about the whole affair. But they weren't quite as rational. Hazel, the red-haired siren, seemed rash, eager to leave the only known spot of safety they had. Riley, they figured, was still dealing with the shock; he'd been mostly silent. And Grace, the small blonde one with the shy smile, didn't look as though she was used to taking control of the situation at all. Julian, on the other hand, was perfectly calm, and seemed to be just as internally calm as he was externally. And that was strange, because even Kai, who thought their brain was working as well as it could under those circumstances, was forcing the panic back down their throat every time it threatened to escape.

They realized he had stopped speaking by the time they had finished the examination of the other players. There was a second's beat, and then. "Okay, I say if this tree thing doesn't start directing us soon, we should come up with a plan. It's silly to just stand here... Does anyone else have any ideas?"

Resisting the urge to say "that's ridiculous", they paused, thinking on their options for a moment. "Yeah," they eventually chimed in, "I think we should stay here. Has anybody failed to notice that we're in a clearing? And look out there." They gestured with a hand to the vast expanse of forest that lay all around them. "It's dangerous. Any light the moon provides wouldn't matter because of the trees, there'd be a trillion things to trip over, and not to mention how much noise we'd be making. I say we wait here. At least here, if anything comes at us, we have a fighting chance. Plus," a mirthless laugh left their lips, "we're dead. We've got all the time in the world."

A few moments passed where they could only wait for their words to sink in. With any luck, they'd all heed them. And if not, Kai would stay behind alone if they had to. With nothing else to think on, they turned to Julian, and, after a second's pause, spoke in lowered voice, "Just out of... curiosity, where do you think we are? What do you think we are?" They couldn't shake the feeling that Julian was behaving irrationally calm for someone in their situation, and they intended to get to the bottom of it.

But there was commotion as the previous screamer--Evan-- began screaming once more. This time for a different reason entirely. Kai could only watch in befuddlement. Their jaw dropped slightly when he moved towards Grace, but they could only remain frozen as he kissed her. After he finished his mini-speech (which Kai couldn't help but recognize as true, though that hardly mattered), something inside them kicked into gear, and they stalked towards the two, anger etched on their face. "Hey!" Kai said forcefully once they were in range. There was even a small shove against Evan's shoulder. "I don't care if we're dead, we still follow laws that regulate basic human decency. And that includes sexual harassment." The law student in Kai wanted to take him to court. The person in them wanted to deck him. Obviously, they could do neither, and they settled for taking a step back to remove themselves from the situation, and returned to their seat near Riley. The last thing they needed was to lose their cool.

Adam raised his head as the guy with the puffy eyes started cheering about some nonsense. Adam muttered to himself.

"I'm gonna fucking kill him if he doesn't shut up. He's gonna get us all killed.

Again.
"

Adam was about to return to his work when the guy started talking about how they were all in one piece. This piqued his curiosity, so Adam rolled up his left sleeve and examined his pallor. His heart stuck in his throat as he gazed upon the totally clear canvas that was his forearm. Instead of being covered up and down with burns and cuts and bruises, it was clear. Tears welled up in his eyes briefly, before he fought them back down and returned to his logical state.

He listened intently to what the man had to say, all the way up until he took advantage of the cute girl and kissed her with no warning. Adam's gut stirred up and he got to his feet, prepared to give this loony a piece of his mind. He stopped when he saw the woman (man? She appeared as if she could pass for both.) storm towards the guy. He figured she had it all handled.

Adam cast his glance from person to person, remaining mostly silent. There was a lot of clashing ideas here. A few wanted to stay, and a few wanted to leave. Once everyone else had voiced their opinion, he spoke up, planning to set the whole mess straight. Adam gestured outwards to the consuming darkness and the unknown horrors it must have contained and said,

"You wanna leave this clearing? Now's your chance. But take a good look at that path, people. Oh, Don't see it? That's because there isn't one. We are LITERALLY in a different world. We're just hatchlings here, we can't leave the nest yet. For all we know, the entire ecosystem could be different. No berries to eat, no rabbits to catch. What're you gonna do when a giant carnivorous plant eats your head off? Nothin'. But if you wanna be brave, the option is right here. I won't stop you."

And with that, he lowered his weapon and awaited a response.

The strange collection of people became an almost-support group of the dead. Soon everyone discussed how they died except for a few. A grin was threatening to form. She had never influenced anyone before. Not that it mattered. In the end, someone would take charge and she would gladly follow. Grace was uncomfortable in a position of power. Evan mentioned his past as a conductor at a university. Of course he was smart. She had such a weakness for intelligence. Maybe because she never had much of her own.

Then Evan suddenly became interested in his testicles. She couldn't help but giggle. It was silly. They WERE whole somehow. She had fallen out of a window yet she could feel her heart beat. He was excited by the prospect of being well but Grace couldn't help but wonder when the other foot was going to drop.

Suddenly, he pulled her into his arms. She suspected nothing until he pressed his lips against hers. The physical act rattled in her brain. She was dead and yet, her blood was still pumping and his lips were still soft. Suddenly she remembered David, the man she left behind, and her face broke into blush. She stumbled back, nearly losing her footing. "I... I definitely felt something," she squeaked.

Kai was not impressed by Evan's grand gesture. They were of the serious type, she could already tell. Then they began discussing the boring details. Will they, won't they... dangers, fears, and so on. What did it matter, she wondered, if they were dead? She would never have a chance to come back, so what was there to fear? She raised her hand timidly. "I will go into the forest. If I come back, it's safe... if not... then it's not safe..." It wasn't the grand speech she would have wanted.

Grace stepped towards the forest. She held out a hand to the darkness. It was pulling her as well as pushing her. She turned back and saw Evan's face, lit up with renewed hope. Then she did something she never had the guts to do when she was alive. She broke into a run, through the trees, striking against branches. She laughed as she did so, closing her eyes against the hidden terrors within

As Hazel suggested they wait five minutes, he nodded. "She's right. Sticking together will increase our chances, whatever we do," He could almost laugh at himself. He had never been in charge of anything in his life. He either did things on his own or let others believe they were in charge. Being dead had brought things to life in him.

Kai turned to him, asking him where he thought he was. He took a moment to really consider the options. He believed he was in a dream but so often people in dreams didn't know they were in dreams... so... no... He was overthinking. Did it matter whether Kai knew? They wouldn't believe him... would they? Finally he muttered, "Uh... I don't know... Hell, maybe? What am I supposed to think?" He breathed a sigh of relief when Evan began his loud declaration of his testicles and their number. At least it let him off the hook. As irrational as it was, he felt that saying it was a dream out loud might break the spell. What spell it was, he couldn't say.

Then Adam went off again. For someone who was dead, he was incredibly focused on survival. Julian hadn't even considered berries or rabbits, or shelter. Or hell, a man-eating plant... Did they really need to worry about that? Would they simply return back to the clearing? "I don't think we can get killed twice," he said. But before he could come up with a solution, Grace acted like an idiot and sprinted into the woods.

"Damn it, no!" he shouted, watching the little blonde sprite disappear into the trees. He cringed, wondering of her fate. He wanted to look away but was compelled to watch. Maybe she'd be okay? Maybe she was already gone...

Funny thing happens when one sobs and screams for endless hours upon hours.....you gain perspective. You grieve for what you've lost, you forgive yourself for your sins, You toss regrets to the side, and you remember how to live, then your mind is clear enough to think about your current situation. This is exactly where Evan's mind-set was now.

Rules from their past didn't apply anymore here, yet not everyone realized that. Case in point, the short hair imp that shoved Evan to prove her point, "I don't care if we're dead, we still follow laws that regulate basic human decency. And that includes sexual harassment." She didn't know it …..yet. And the guy sharpening his spear “ No berries to eat, no rabbits to catch. What're you gonna do when a giant carnivorous plant eats your head off? Nothin'. He was so worried about survival, that he hadn't realize that known of them had been hungry or thirsty or even used the bathroom or at least that was the observation, Evan made. He didn't know it..... yet either. Each and every person here were still living IN their past lives, except for maybe the little blonde running aimless in the woods

Evan was pacing back and forth, while mindlessly collecting different lengths of twigs. The long held speech he had replayed over and over in his mind, started spilling out like a pot boiling over with water. "We all come from diverse backgrounds; with different life experiences, and varying education. With all those differences we do have two things in common......WE ARE DEAD and we are here together. WE may never have picked each other as friends, but now our choices are limited. I won't pretend to know what our next move should be, but I do know this...we are stronger together, than apart. Right now one of us in those woods, pointing in the direction of the woods,Image
one of us needs to get her." At this point, Evan held out his closed fist, with twigs peeking above in even lengths." I think we ought to draw straws or twigs in this case, Evan gives a short jovial laugh, and sees who gets her." Evan held his fist out for Kai to pick first.
