Brad Wilhelm

An assassin that became a warden to redeem himself.

0 · 235 views · located in Ferelden

a character in “Dragon Age: Finding Your Way In The Dark”, as played by Klause

Description

Name: Brad Wilhelm

Age: 31

Race: Human

Appearance:
Brad Wilhelm.

Brad's eyes are brown, and his hair is black and neatly comed back. He has a scar which goes from his left bone cheek across his face, across his lips and ending at the right side of his chin. His voice is low, and he keeps his face shaved and smooth. He stands the average height of an average human, his body is well toned, trained for endurance and not brute strength, and it carries two stab scars in his stomach and several long scars across his back, and his skin is lightly tanned by nature.
He prefers to wear black leather and only wears a cape when it comes to infiltrating areas, he's more than ready to bail out on it if it is comes between that choice and staying alive.

Personality:
Brad is socially, despite the stereotypical belief of how an assassin would be, though he sticks to a famous saying, "Ask specifically and be answered specifically." Meaning, he is willing to answer any question that is asked, however he won't answer what he would consider for vague questions.

Brad isn't exactly the most academically smartest person that you would ever find. He can read and write like a commoner however don't expect to find him reading overly thick books for pleasure. He is, on the other hand, street smart and cunning. His many years as a professional assassin has taught him many ways to extract information from society, individuals and 'friends'.

It is hard to see why Brad, of all the people whom could be chosen to become a Warden, became one. The answer which his mentor chose was logic and a thirst for redemption. Brad doesn't see the logic behind Darkspawn, nor does he see their purpose of existence, save for destroying the world of men and dwarves, and that is Brad finds illogical about the Darkspawns. Furthermore, Brand feels that he needs to redeem himself as an assassin as he did a radical act, which he would have seen as being illogical under normal circumstances, and now he has sworn that he would do whatever it takes to redeem himself, even if it means that he will die fighting Darkspawns.

Brad has woken up in the middle of the night due to the many horrors that he has witnessed as a Grey Warden. Not only the dreams that haunts him, but also the monsters that he has to face, and now and then the faces of his victims' relatives. Brad is never comfortable talking about his dreams and the only time he might admit any form of regret of his former life is when he has had a few cups of ale.

Equipment:
-Sword
-Two dagger (the one in the pic)
-Crossbow and bolts

History:
It is hard to get Brad to answer a question concerning his past before he became a Warden as he mostly sees the majority of questions as being too vague, and the few he does answer wouldn't make the biggest difference. He doesn't originate from Ferelden, that much is certain though if he is an old associate with the assassin organization Antivan Crows or if he is a member of another large organized guild of murderers and thieves, no-one but Brad knows.

Brad was eighteen when he made his first living in Ferelden. He was already experienced in the arts of killing and started his own personal business. Naturally humans hated each other and many richer merchants were willing to pay a nice sum for seeing their competitors suddenly go out of business or disappear. Gang rivalry was no different and they too payed enough for Brad to make a living, though Brad always aimed higher, for better contracts and more challenging targets.
Competition was fierce within the streets of Denerim, so Brad improvised and eavesdropped on the many different contracts men that he knew of and began to snatch targets from other assassins, outside the city. This soon proved to be both a highly profitable method and a quick way of gaining enemies.

Brad believed the main reason for why he killed was to make a living. There were never personal feelings involved and he began to believe that killing was nothing more than cold logic. It was never to be personal for him, just another way to make his way through life. How wrong he was.
After five years of adding enemy after enemy to a long list, it soon came crumbling down on him. In his belief of Logic of Assassins, he had started his own life with a woman he loved and was looking forward to start a family in a possibly peaceful manner; it was ruined as his house was stormed by his many enemies, his lover (and their child) were killed before his eyes, their home set ablaze, his money taken, and he was kidnapped, tortured, poisoned and then thrown in a river, left to drown.

As he was sinking deep into the waters of the river, carried away by its strong current he was saved by an unknown woman, taken to a hut where his wounds were treated and the poison that was injected into him was neutralized. When he had regained his strength the same woman gave him a long list of names. The names of those who had destroyed his life, Brad never asked where she knew the names nor did he care, his emotions had taken over and he was seeking revenge.

Name, after name, he crossed them out as they all met their deaths. Some proved to be more difficult to find, others were pure amateurs, but in the end they were all dead and gone from the surface of the earth. Brad returned to the woman with a sack of silver coins to thank her for what she had done, but she refused his money and asked him, "Now that they are dead, do you feel different than when you started?"
"No. I feel hallow. I feel dead. I broke my own code by taking revenge. How can I live with myself if I can't even acknowledge my own morals?"
"What do you plan on doing then? Return to your petty contract job?"
"I don't know."
"Join the Wardens then."

Though it took the woman some discussion to convince Brad that he had what it took to be a Warden, and after she explained how the Darkspawns didn't use anything else but illogical and radical, Brad agreed to fight them in order to redeem himself.
The woman who saved him and talked him into becoming a Warden turned out to be a Grey Warden herself. When Brad asked why she didn't tell him of the order before she answered his question with a question, "Would it be wise to ask a zealous templar if he ever considered a maleficar for a human?"

So begins...
