Welcome to Ferelden... a beautiful land it once was. Covered in beautiful green grass, tall oaks and pines. Flowers blooming on the sides of the roads and paths peopled walked. The Cities were full of life, full of laughter, and full of people. Now all you see are spikes with heads on them. Dismembered bodies, limbs thrown about. Blood covers the dirt, and ground. The trees are now full of death and decay. Buildings crumble, people are hiding in fear of the darkspawn hordes. The country itself seems to reek of death.

Other nations refused to come to Ferelden's aid in its darkest time. They gave up on the people, they let them die. They believed there was no hope for the Nation itself. They were wrong... there was hope... and still is... it's just about finding the right amount of people, and the right amount of faith where you go. And one elf, has found others...she has found the warden recruits she was looking for.

So'Lina wandered around the small encampment that she had set up. They had to do the Joining tonight. She held the Chalice in one hand as she dropped the vials of Darkspawn blood in it, along with Lyrium. Setting the Chalice down gently she pulled out another vial. This vial had a darker color of blood than the previous ones. She could hear its voice in her head, just from the drop of blood. Closing her eyes she opened it, and poured it in the chalice. She wasn't eager to see the new recruits go through this ritual, but it was of some importance. She had hope for Ferelden... and so did these people who were with her.

Picking up the silver Chalice once more, she turned to face the three recruits. In her musical voice, sounding dark and grim she spoke the traditional words spoken before a Joining.
"Join us, brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant. Join us as we carry the duty that can not be forsworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten. And that one day we shall join you." Taking a deep breath she walked to Eddic, a human nobleman she had picked up along the roads, who helped her battle the darkspawn, only to see that he had been attacked the night before by darkspawn the taint almost killing him.

She had healed him, stopping the taint from growing... it was as if he were forced to become part of the Wardens. His Green eyes looked into hers, as she spoke. "Eddic, you were chosen to be a part of our ranks because you showed great valor in fighting and defending yourself against the darkspawn." She'd pause as she handed him the chalice, the scent of the darkspawn blood clear in her nose.

He took the chalice and drank. Taking the chalice back, she'd hand it to the next in line, she stand there and begin to speak, "Chionn you were chosen among-" She was cut off from the sounds of someone choking and shiverring. Looking over at Eddic she saw his emerald green eyes wern't there, he was on his knees, the whites of his eyes showing, the taint darkening his veins, suffocating him. That moment So'Lina's heart broke momentairly.

"I'm sorry Eddic... you were not strong enough." Taking out her dagger, she walked behind him, grabbing his hair, and holding his head against her stomach, to expose his throat. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and placed the dagger at his throat and sliced it open, letting him bleed out. Keeping her dagger out should the other two wardens not make it, she'd open her eyes and whisper, "I'm sorry brother."

Her crystal blue eyes turned upon the Last two Warden Recruits. Trying to lock eyes with Chionn, she mentally hoped he would make the Joining, along with the Dwarf, Thorgar. Her Mabari hound,Alistair, named after the Warden who sacrificed his life in the fifth blight, sat at her pallet his eyes full of knowledge, watching the whole Joining Ceremony, as if he knew about it, and the sacrifice that was made.

When So'Lina caught his blue greens with her own crystal blue gaze, and the scent of the Darkspawn ichor danced in his nostrils, Chionn felt a dizziness wash over him, threatening to topple him. Something steadied him however, and he almost felt the steadying paw of Leighton upon his shoulder. But of course that was just a fleeting memory. The Bear was two years gone at this point. The Fox took a deep breath and silently watched Eddic be put to blade. What had to be, had to be. Chionn hadn't really gotten to know the noble all that well, but wasn't entirely surprised at his passing, though he regretted it. Then it was his turn.

Before he brought the Chalice to his lips for his own taste of the savage brew, Chionn took a few moments to contemplate the events leading up to this pivotal moment, using the red-black blood as a backdrop to his mental machinations.

It wasn't long after he returned to Gwaren, dragging Leighton's body behind himself and Telum (the Mabari hound that had imprinted upon him after the battle in the Korcari Wilds) in a makeshift sled, So'Lina the Grey Warden arrived on the day of his twin's funeral. It was mostly uneventful, though as The Bear's body burned beneath the Vhenadahl and the Elder asked Falon'Din to receive the spirit, So'Lina asked the Fox to join her in the search for more recruits. Naturally, he accepted, and they departed the very next day. Before they left, however, Chionn's father the Teyrn gave him quite a sum of gold and his blessing. Even despite the current Blight, the port was still quite wealthy, and could well handle this miserly sum. For Chionn, though, it was quite a feeling to finally be recognised by his father as a noble son. So, with rising hopes and Ton's shield and longsword with him, they ventured forth into Ferelden.

For the most part, he remained a little removed from So'Lina, though he wished to get to know her better during their travels. The one thing he did know about her was that she could fight with the best of warriors, and scarcely could be matched. The Fox certainly dreaded the day that they might have to cross blades! It had become apparent not long into their journey, when they came across a noble whom was being accosted by a dozen or so Darkspawn. They dispatched them with quite a fight, and thus Eddic joined their party.

After that, and a little while longer, they found themselves in Orzammar, where the Darkspawn were very nearly at the gates of the great city. And again, they drove off the scouting party with nary a hitch. There, they found Thorgar, a dispossessed third son of a noble, whom joined eagerly. That was the extent of the events, more or less, with a good amount of detail missing...

Coming back to the present, Chionn realised he had paused for longer than he had wished, the expectant stares of So'Lina and Thorgar boring into him. A bit of redness crept up from his neck and stretched to his slightly pointed ears.

"Right then, no time like now to be through with this," he muttered, bringing the Chalice to his lips. Taking three respectable gulps, he spluttered a bit, but managed to get it down. A wry smirk danced on his now-bloody lips as he handed the Chalice to Thorgar. "There, now that wasn't so diffi-..."

Chionn's sarcastic comment was cut short as the Taint took him, unconsciousness striking him rather quickly...

Urthemiel:

The dragon over looked his army of darkspawn, an evilish grin on his dragonlike face. That was when he felt it, a shock running through his body. He knew the Wardens were nearby. His white eyes searched for the wardens but seeing none he let out a ferocious roar. Get the Armies moving! I want everyone in this land to die. He'd command the darkspawn as he turned and blew out a jet of purple fire, his mighty wings flapping. Ferelden was going to regret the day that Urthemiel came back. That was, if they hadn't already. He turned his face where he felt the presence of the Grey Wardens, and gave an evil laugh, and another stream of purple fire, before turning and flying off into the distance.

The new Warden Recruits however, were there in spirit. It was their first encounter with the Archdemon. Urthemiel just couldn't see them, because they wern't there in body. Though the dragon isn't stupid however, he knew there were new warden recruits, but he was confident in his abliity to destroy the wardens once more.

So'Lina:

So'Lina wasn't too pleased with the fact that she had lost one Warden Recruit, but she was relieved that both the dwarf and the half-elf survived it. They were true warriors, if they could watch their first mate die because of the Joining, and still didn't back down. That was when she got the vision, the same vision the recruits would see. The Archdemon knew... she could feel his presence just as he could feel hers. After letting the vision pass, she'd slowly stand up, before turning and vomiting in the bushes.

Wiping her mouth she'd grimace, sometimes the visions make her sick, but it felt as if the Archdemon could see through her, to her very soul. Picking up the dagger she'd sigh once more cleaning Eddic's blood off her blade. Looking down at the two unconcious Wardens, she'd sigh and take the two vials she had in her pocket and fill them with Eddic's blood as well as a bit of the blood from the chalice. She made a mental note to collect more Archdemon blood for future Joining rituals.

Pacing around she impatiently waited for the Wardens to wake from consciousness. Her sensitive ears heard people approaching the ruined gates of Ostagar. Turning on her heel, she tightened her grip on the dagger she had. No one was going to interrupt the ending of the Joining Ritual. Not even stupid Darkspawn. Blending herself in with the shadows she'd continue listening, as the people got closer, her blue eyes shimmered, and she leapt out in front of them. Her blade close to the throat of what seemed another elf, a male, accompanying a bear. Not taking her eyes off of the elf or the bear she drew her other dagger and pre-paired to throw it at the creature.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?!" She'd hiss, narrowing her blue eyes, her blonde hair surrounding her like a storm. "Make any moves, and its your head on the dirt." Her voice was cold, but soft, almost like steel hidden under wool. Her gaze never broke with the elf, nor the bear, that had a backpack on its back... a brow raised, but nothing more was said.

It was sudden. That was for sure. Unexpected? No. He could tell the male elf had been angry by the look on his face. He took a punch that sent him on his behind and listened to what he had to say. "You had better watch your tone, outsider, you address one of the last Grey Wardens of Ferelden. If you know what's good for you, you'll change your tact immediately. Or I might just have to hit you even harder. Maybe then would the message get through your thick skull..." He slowly sat himself up still thinking that it would be a bad idea to fight. He just did as he normally did and spoke his mind in the most polite of tones. "I apologize if I offend. It was certainly not my intention. However, I have heard stories about the wardens and in these stories I have never heard of them picking on the innocent." He said, not in a mocking tone but in a preaching tone. "Surely if you are tied with them you wouldn't spoil there name by doing such a thing as attacking innocent people who seem to just be traveling minding there own business. I understand the indirect contact as holding a sword to a suspicious person, but to lash out in anger isn't what I'd expect from the legends I've heard so much about. These do seem to be different times however and you both are quite young, so I'll just take it as you being inexperienced in how to deal with people." He rubbed his jaw. "Good punch by the way. Your swiftness and speed are noted to me. You threat however isn't. I've done nothing to threaten you and neither has my companion. So I think it only right to leave us be." He said.

In his mind, good people weren't targets. Even if he was to fight with a warden he wouldn't be able to go all out. He still can't control the most of his abilities. He did believe that they were as they say. How else would the man in front of him know he was a spirit warrior. He wore the attire of a regular one. Surly these people were experienced in battle.

Malyin sighed, and put her face in her hands. Helios was screwing it all up, and if he wasn't careful he would get them killed. She quickly slapped him in the face. "You IDIOT! You'll get us both killed!" She scowled at him and put her hands on her hips. She turned to the wardens, and made an apologetic face. "I'm sorry, both of you, he's being really STUPID." With that last word she turned to him and glowered again.

Malyin picked up her bag and her weapons, and said "Now fair wardens, I want to apologise again for that IDIOT'S behaviour. Can I go now? I want to find some merchants to see if they have the information I'm looking for." She glowered at Helios again. "And I won't be needing HIM but don't kill him please." She then crossed her arms and turned away from the idiot of a warrior she was stuck with.

Helios was having a good day. That is until he was threatened which he tried to blow over. Then he was punched. Minor setback. Being slapped however might have been the thing to ruin his day. He couldn't bare to yell at a lady though. He'd never seen his father yell at his mom and his uncle taught him to always compliment them and respect them. After being called an idiot he rubbed his stinging face and listened as the elf assassin spoke. Her words seemed true enough. He wouldn't mind fighting soulless beast but then again he didn't want to actually become part of the fad in which he traveled. He just let out a sigh.

He was however, relieved to know that the woman wasn't as juvenile as her counterpart. She was obviously in charge. His mom was in charge of his household so he knew that woman were good leaders. They kept everything clean and even though they reacted on emotions they had their reasons. He put his hands on Malyin's shoulder and said, "I forgive you my lady. I know your actions are just in their own light." He then turned to the other elves and stuck out his hand. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot. I am Helios Jiyani. I travel this land in search of work so I can feed my hungering stomach and sleep in a nice place once and a while. Most of all, I like helping people so I think we should be okay to each other. Maybe not friends but I prefer we not be enemies either. Good people shouldn't fight each other." He said with a smile. He had respect for these people. Even though they were a little rough he knew as wardens they want to help as much as he does. This world needs more people who want to help in anyway they can and less people who want to harm others. That's at least what he believed. "I believe I didn't quite catch your names." He said, waiting for a reply.

Malyin addressed the group, feeling ashamed for her actions, she had just been so stressed after the Korcari Wildes. "I'm sorry, I'm just stressed right now." She smiled at Helios, apologising with her facial expressions. "I'd like to reintroduce myself too. I'm Malyin N'Powut, and I'm a shapeshifter from the Brecilian Forest. I come here every few months to see if any merchants are gutsy enough to camp here. Usually the gutsy ones have more information, and I can't exactly travel to the capital seeing as it's a bit far away." Malyin apologetically smiled. "Once again I'm sorry for my rash actions."

Malyin picked up her bow and daggers and faced the wardens. "I think you are right Helios, we got off on the wrong foot. You wardens seem very nice, and I was hoping to know your names so as I might get back to my journey, and make peace with you." She looked at the strong figures before her, looking for any hints as to their reactions as to this previous awkward conversation. Saphira looked at them too, munching on a nut she'd brought.

The darkness had been a good cover for the Ex-crow as he maneuvered his way between the ranks of a scouting party of darkspawn, his daggers finding chinks in the armor of a few of the Hurlocks, while just completely beheading the three genlocks. "six darkspawn.." He mumbled to himself wiping blood from his face. and sheathing his daggers, drawing his bow and letting loose one quickly notched arrow into the base of the skull, of a retreating genlock. "Seven..." He said that with a smirk. Ryuu had been making his way through the wilds, on a quest of his own to help protect a small town just north of the wilds, needless to say one elf wasn't going to stem the entire tide of the horde, but at least it gave a few of the villagers some peace of mind knowing he was out here decimating scouting parties and the like.

He had currently wandered quite a ways south; having been tailing that scouting party for the better half of a day, having moved so far south that the only sign of anything that wasn't darkspawn were ruins of old towers and such, though he had spotted hound tracks, amongst other things, which in itself was a good sign that he wasn't alone out here with the darkspawn. "It's getting late.. those tracks are my best option to find a place to lay low for the remainder of the night.." He thought to himself out loud, as he jogged into the wilds following the tracks of hounds, and humans. He forced his way through the thick of the wilds, dodging camps of chasind and such; knowing the tracks weren't their's considering they weren't careless like this. It wasn't long before he moved out into a more open area; near a giant set of ruins, which he had heard about in taverns and such during his travels; Ostagar. Though he never truly paid attention to current events figuring he had played enough of his hand in causing the fall of kingdoms and such, to actual care about any possible offense against the darkspawn horde; it seemed that Fate had led him here; and regardless of his desires to not be here, it was obvious that his gut had led him after that scouting party.

"Alright, I suppose I can look around here, keep to the shadows, mind my own business and get out of things get way to dangerous for me." He thought to himself spotting the outlines of a couple of people near the entrance to the ruins. He made his way quietly towards them deciding if he was going to find out anything about the plan for the horde was, it would be to silently observe, without getting caught hopefully.
