Welcome to Ferelden... a beautiful land it once was. Covered in beautiful green grass, tall oaks and pines. Flowers blooming on the sides of the roads and paths peopled walked. The Cities were full of life, full of laughter, and full of people. Now all you see are spikes with heads on them. Dismembered bodies, limbs thrown about. Blood covers the dirt, and ground. The trees are now full of death and decay. Buildings crumble, people are hiding in fear of the darkspawn hordes. The country itself seems to reek of death.

Other nations refused to come to Ferelden's aid in its darkest time. They gave up on the people, they let them die. They believed there was no hope for the Nation itself. They were wrong... there was hope... and still is... it's just about finding the right amount of people, and the right amount of faith where you go. And one elf, has found others...she has found the warden recruits she was looking for.

Image

So'Lina wandered around the small encampment that she had set up. They had to do the Joining tonight. She held the Chalice in one hand as she dropped the vials of Darkspawn blood in it, along with Lyrium. Setting the Chalice down gently she pulled out another vial. This vial had a darker color of blood than the previous ones. She could hear its voice in her head, just from the drop of blood. Closing her eyes she opened it, and poured it in the chalice. She wasn't eager to see the new recruits go through this ritual, but it was of some importance. She had hope for Ferelden... and so did these people who were with her.

Picking up the silver Chalice once more, she turned to face the three recruits. In her musical voice, sounding dark and grim she spoke the traditional words spoken before a Joining.
"Join us, brothers and sisters. Join us in the shadows where we stand vigilant. Join us as we carry the duty that can not be forsworn. And should you perish, know that your sacrifice will not be forgotten. And that one day we shall join you." Taking a deep breath she walked to Eddic, a human nobleman she had picked up along the roads, who helped her battle the darkspawn, only to see that he had been attacked the night before by darkspawn the taint almost killing him.

She had healed him, stopping the taint from growing... it was as if he were forced to become part of the Wardens. His Green eyes looked into hers, as she spoke. "Eddic, you were chosen to be a part of our ranks because you showed great valor in fighting and defending yourself against the darkspawn." She'd pause as she handed him the chalice, the scent of the darkspawn blood clear in her nose.

He took the chalice and drank. Taking the chalice back, she'd hand it to the next in line, she stand there and begin to speak, "Chionn you were chosen among-" She was cut off from the sounds of someone choking and shiverring. Looking over at Eddic she saw his emerald green eyes wern't there, he was on his knees, the whites of his eyes showing, the taint darkening his veins, suffocating him. That moment So'Lina's heart broke momentairly.

"I'm sorry Eddic... you were not strong enough." Taking out her dagger, she walked behind him, grabbing his hair, and holding his head against her stomach, to expose his throat. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and placed the dagger at his throat and sliced it open, letting him bleed out. Keeping her dagger out should the other two wardens not make it, she'd open her eyes and whisper, "I'm sorry brother."

Her crystal blue eyes turned upon the Last two Warden Recruits. Trying to lock eyes with Chionn, she mentally hoped he would make the Joining, along with the Dwarf, Thorgar. Her Mabari hound,Alistair, named after the Warden who sacrificed his life in the fifth blight, sat at her pallet his eyes full of knowledge, watching the whole Joining Ceremony, as if he knew about it, and the sacrifice that was made.

"Okay so I get some of your power if I bring you back water from the lack outside." Helios said just to make sure.
"Yes. Sure. Absolutely." The spirit said back.
"Okay but I don't know what a spirit would want with water." He said as he picked up his back and spear. He walked outside the fade and walked out the dungeon. It was quiet in the woods. Maybe too quiet. Oh well. He didn't pay it no mind. He proceeded to the pond area when he heard a scream. "Ahhhhhh. Help me. Please help. Someone please." Cried a ladies voice.
Helios quickly hid behind the tree. 'Dang. I should have bout an arrow instead of these throwing knives." He thought as he stared at the knives. 'But these knives are cool. Okay Guess I'll just improvise.'
The Spirit warrior climbed up a tree to see the bandits clearly. 'Okay just increase speed to increase distance annnnd," He put some of his energy into the knife to throw it at one of the bandits. "Argh!!" He heard as the bandit fell holding his knee. He then threw another one at the bandit with the bow. This time hitting him in the arm. "Bulls-eye." He cheered at himself. He hopped off the tree and ran towards the men who didn't have long ranged weapons. He took out his spear then whacked one over the head with it. Then the second man came after him just in time for him to jab him in the arm. "Dang. Bandits sure are a stupid lot these days he said. "I'm Helios, and you are?" He asked as he went to help her up.
"Rion. Rion Tyl." She replied. She was beautiful. He wanted to stay but he had a job to do. He gathered the water and asked her, "Wheres the closest town from these woods?"
"Hmm. non really. Here in the wilds we just have villages but, if you think its worth the hike. You can go to Ostagar. Haven't been myself, but I do assure you, it is a city."
Helios pondered what she said. 'This lass ain't too bright is she. Well whatever. At least she has a cute face.' He thought. "Well thanks for the heads up Madame. Take care of yourself." He said while giving one last look at the bandits. He walked all the way back to the cave, through the dungeon and into the Fade. Of course the spirit was still waiting for him. "Did you bring is? Is it brought? Is it with you?" It said.
"Yeah yeah yeah. Here you go you spirit you." Helios said as he gave the spirit water. "Now where's my power?" He asked impatiently.
"Here. Have. Receive." The spirit said as he shined a light on the elf.
"Is that it? I don't even feel a thing."
"Patience, wait, stay still."
"Okay, but if I die I will come back and give you a good one, my friend" He said as he left the fade and the cave behind. "Hopefully I'll meet someone along the way. Could use the company of a beautiful woman. hehe." He chuckled to himself as he walked towards Ostagar.

Malyin shot the deer down with a point blank arrow to the heart. She hung it up using her spider form's thread, then started to prepare it. Whilst she gutted it, she remembered that it was this upcoming week that would be the week that she goes to Ostagar. Every three months, Malyin went to Ostagar to see if there was any fresh information on her parents. I should bring something in case I have to trade... She looked at the deer she was preparing and smiled.

After packing the parts of the deer that would most likely be traded, she packed some of her carvings as well, and made sure Saphira had a firm grip on the sack before shifting into a bear and setting off. Travelling as a bear was easiest for her, because she could travel fast and carry heavy loads at the same time. Not owning a horse yet, her best option is to shift to bear form. So, with the sack on her furry back, she set off to Ostagar on another attempt to find her parents.

At some point on her journey, she saw a young elf walking on the road. He was a dashing man that's for sure. He was carrying a spear and throwing knives. Malyin shifted back to elven form before he threw them at her. "Hey there! Where are you going?"

Helios was obviously lost. He couldn't believe that it would take such a long time to travel to a location pointed by a pretty woman's fingers. Obviously this was more than a hike. He had to eat frog legs for the past 2 nights just to get by without starving. Should he give up? No. That wasn't an option. He needed work and in order to find work you have to go to a city. This, Ostagar was the closest city so it was his duty as a hero for hire to go there. He thought about what his family would say if he quit. "Gods. I'm too tired to be thinking this much about a simple thing. If I walk straight I'm sure to find some type of place to work. City or not.

He then heard the sound of heavy footsteps. He stopped walking and surveyed the area with only his head and eyes. Was it a deer. Oh how he hoped it was. Would've been a more satisfying meal than the skinny legs of a frog. He then heard an unexpected voice.

"Hey there! Where are you going?" Came a woman's voice, ever so sweet it was, from the right of him. Right where he heard the sound. "My name is Helios Jiyani. I'm sort of lost at the moment, but I make my trails to the city of Ostagar. Never been there myself. Do you, pray tell, know where it is?" He said to the beautiful woman. She seemed to be an elf just like him so he was happy yo be in good company. Sure human women were beautiful too. He thought all women carried beauty. There was just something with the elfin women though. He pinpointed that it was the fact that seeing them was rare in his trials. She seemed to be carrying a load too so surly she was a traveler who knew her way around these parts. He prayed that she knew where the city was.

"My name is Helios Jiyani. I'm sort of lost at the moment, but I make my trails to the city of Ostagar. Never been there myself. Do you, pray tell, know where it is?" The no longer stranger explained to Malyin. "Ah well I'm Malyin N'Powut, pleased to meet you. My route is set for Ostagar too!" She grinned at the stranger, seeing he was obviously in need of a travelling companion. "this is my Dormouse Saphira, she seems to take an interest in you!" Saphira had leapt off her shoulder and onto Helios's, nibbling at his ear in welcome. She chuckled, surprised that her pet had taken such a liking to this stranger. The stranger himself had no apparent reason to be avoided truth be told. He was quite handsome, and quite strong. His hair and eyes perfectly complimented each other, and his armor was lightweight but looked to be of strong material. His face was the face you'd expect to see on a warrior, which indeed he seemed to be. Malyin thought that this man could make a good friend and ally.

"Well isn't she just the cutest." He said about the dormouse. "Never seen a pet like this before. Seems to be energetic. Haha. Would you mind if I accompanied you there? I am in dire need of a good meal and haven't been to a city in a fortnight or two. Traveling light sure has its up but also its downs." He said while playing with the creature that nibbled on his ear. "Ah. If you wouldn't mind me asking. Are you a traveler too. I see you have some equipment. Must be pretty heavy having to hike it all around alone. I could help you if you like. Since I'll be traveling with you and I don't have much to carry." He said, stretching his arm out to receive whatever she was willing to let him carry. He didn't like having uneven amounts of loads when he traveled with someone. Male or female he thought that everything should be even between them.

When Helios offered to carry the load, she laughed and said "No it's fine! I'm a shapeshifter you see, and I travel as a bear so as I can carry greater loads. You can of course travel with me, it gets pretty lonely on these roads." She smiled and showed him her bear form so as he wouldn't accidentally kill her at some point in the future, thinking she was an enemy. "If you insist, you can carry the skin of this deer in my sack." She handed him the skin, which was in it's own little sack.

She lifted Saphira off his shoulder, and placed her back on her own. She scratched the little thing's ear and said softly "She's named after a dragon I once encountered in my dreams. It was a beautiful thing, not contaminated by the taint, and I found this Saphira the very moment I woke up. She was sitting on my window sill, a little child, and it seemed that she knew I was in need of a friend in those times." She sighed happily, remembering the very events she had talked about. "I come to Ostagar to trade items and information, and to possibly learn a thing or two. What about you Helios?" She grinned at him. She almost didn't, because she was afraid of making a new friend after past occurrences. She tried not to let it show, but she knew that a little bit of it did.

Helios was happy she asked. It wasn't often he got to explain his lifestyle. "I need to get some work. See, I'm what people call a spirit warrior. I don't quite yet know what that means for me but I go to the fade, help some spirits out and they grant me some power without telling me what it is. Almost like magic but far from it. Anyway, I have to take jobs in order to practice my abilities. Plus I get to help people which is nice because helping people is what I live for. The reason I decided to start training in the first place." He turned to her and smiled holding the bag of skin over his shoulder. "What answers are you looking for? I can ask people and town and we can cover more ground." He asked Malyin.

"What answers are you looking for? I can ask people in town and we can cover more ground." When he said this, Malyin was reluctant to answer, still sensitive about her parents. She took a deep breath and told him.

"Well, when I was younger, about 17, I woke up from being unconscious, and remembered nothing about my parents. I knew I had parents, but I didn't know who they were, only what they had taught me, and that they had cast a memory spell on me, so I would be safe." she sighed and continued on with her story. "My parents were in the bad books of the Templars, they never said anything about why. Maybe they did. I can't remember that's the thing. Ever since I've been looking for them, by picking up any info on them I can..." She turned away, hiding the single tear on her cheek. I mustn't cry, I mustn't cry...

"Anyway, we should head on the road. Want to ride on my bear form or walk?" She quickly wiped the tear away, smiling to cover it up.

Helios saw her turn away after she spoke and decided not to bring further development into the subject. He gave her a friendly pat on the shoulder and then disguised it saying, "I can't let you get stabbed by a bee. I heard some are poisonous." as he let a small laugh. He was good at breaking tension. At least he thought he was.

She asked if he wanted to ride on her or walk. "I'm fine with walking." He said. "A warrior has to make sure to never get lazy. At least that's what my uncle always told me." He then remembered his uncle saying allot of things. For some reason the subject of famous ruins came into his mind but he couldn't ponder why. He shook it off as just a random thought and continued talking. "Are you sure Ostagar is a famous city? I heard of it before, but never told as a city. I believe it was in a different type of conversation. I can't relay what type though." He thought as the two continued walking.

Urthemiel:

The dragon over looked his army of darkspawn, an evilish grin on his dragonlike face. That was when he felt it, a shock running through his body. He knew the Wardens were nearby. His white eyes searched for the wardens but seeing none he let out a ferocious roar. Get the Armies moving! I want everyone in this land to die. He'd command the darkspawn as he turned and blew out a jet of purple fire, his mighty wings flapping. Ferelden was going to regret the day that Urthemiel came back. That was, if they hadn't already. He turned his face where he felt the presence of the Grey Wardens, and gave an evil laugh, and another stream of purple fire, before turning and flying off into the distance.

The new Warden Recruits however, were there in spirit. It was their first encounter with the Archdemon. Urthemiel just couldn't see them, because they wern't there in body. Though the dragon isn't stupid however, he knew there were new warden recruits, but he was confident in his abliity to destroy the wardens once more.

So'Lina:

So'Lina wasn't too pleased with the fact that she had lost one Warden Recruit, but she was relieved that both the dwarf and the half-elf survived it. They were true warriors, if they could watch their first mate die because of the Joining, and still didn't back down. That was when she got the vision, the same vision the recruits would see. The Archdemon knew... she could feel his presence just as he could feel hers. After letting the vision pass, she'd slowly stand up, before turning and vomiting in the bushes.

Wiping her mouth she'd grimace, sometimes the visions make her sick, but it felt as if the Archdemon could see through her, to her very soul. Picking up the dagger she'd sigh once more cleaning Eddic's blood off her blade. Looking down at the two unconcious Wardens, she'd sigh and take the two vials she had in her pocket and fill them with Eddic's blood as well as a bit of the blood from the chalice. She made a mental note to collect more Archdemon blood for future Joining rituals.

Pacing around she impatiently waited for the Wardens to wake from consciousness. Her sensitive ears heard people approaching the ruined gates of Ostagar. Turning on her heel, she tightened her grip on the dagger she had. No one was going to interrupt the ending of the Joining Ritual. Not even stupid Darkspawn. Blending herself in with the shadows she'd continue listening, as the people got closer, her blue eyes shimmered, and she leapt out in front of them. Her blade close to the throat of what seemed another elf, a male, accompanying a bear. Not taking her eyes off of the elf or the bear she drew her other dagger and pre-paired to throw it at the creature.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?!" She'd hiss, narrowing her blue eyes, her blonde hair surrounding her like a storm. "Make any moves, and its your head on the dirt." Her voice was cold, but soft, almost like steel hidden under wool. Her gaze never broke with the elf, nor the bear, that had a backpack on its back... a brow raised, but nothing more was said.

"Make any moves and it's your head on the dirt." The elegant blonde elf interrupted their conversation, pointing a sword at Helios's throat. Malyin quickly shifted back to elven form and put her hands in the air and Helios did the same. "Woah woah woah!" Malyin exclaimed, being careful not to anger the lady elf any more. "We're just travelers! We come in peace!" Oh dear...

She took a step back from the elf, who was staring at them with a sort of furious look Malyin hadn't seen before. The elf had long blonde hair that shimmered in the light, giving her the effect that made it seem as if her head was surrounded by lightning. She wore the armour of an assassin, and her ice blue eyes would make anyone feel awkward when she stared at you. Knowing that this situation wasn't a good one, Malyin lay down her bow and her daggers on the ground, and put her bag in front of her.

"My name is Malyin N'Powut, I come here to trade and gather information! This is Helios Jiyani, he's travelling with me, tell her why you're here Helios!" She looked at Helios, pleading with her eyes for him not to anger the elf.

Helios was surprised. He only showed it in his eyebrows. The woman was threatening but she was also beautiful. He took a moment to register how he should approach her before he spoke. 'Why this is my lucky day. Two beautiful woman of my own heritage. Definitely worth the hike.' He thought. I can't believe she actually sneaked up on me. She is truly a blissful assassin. She probably gets complimented allot. Hmm. I should distort the mood a little.' He did just that and said the most interesting thing he could think to say at a moment like this. "I have come to meet a woman who is as fair as her blade." He said. He slowly made his right hand into a fist that had only his fore finger standing up. He made sure to keep his other hand up as to not cause any alarm. He slowly proceeded to wipe the blade with his finger.

"You are obviously not her because you are more fairer than any blade I've seen." He said slowly lowering his hands. "We mean no harm, her or I." He said in order to calm her even more. He had to be charming during his travels. It wasn't the first time someone tried to kill him for walking in the wrong direction. His sense wasn't very firm in that department. He made sure not to have a flirtatious tone in his voice because he was just trying to inadvertently call her beautiful. He also didn't want her mad. Some girls don't like being hit on. He instead had a calm and friendly tone. Tricksters don't usually dressed as he dressed so he thought that all those elements would have her feeling safer about him. He hoped at the least. The last thing he did was give a light smile. 'Who kills a unarmed man while he's smiling.' He thought. He knew the answer but sure she wasn't a fiend of some sort.

It was sudden. That was for sure. Unexpected? No. He could tell the male elf had been angry by the look on his face. He took a punch that sent him on his behind and listened to what he had to say. "You had better watch your tone, outsider, you address one of the last Grey Wardens of Ferelden. If you know what's good for you, you'll change your tact immediately. Or I might just have to hit you even harder. Maybe then would the message get through your thick skull..." He slowly sat himself up still thinking that it would be a bad idea to fight. He just did as he normally did and spoke his mind in the most polite of tones. "I apologize if I offend. It was certainly not my intention. However, I have heard stories about the wardens and in these stories I have never heard of them picking on the innocent." He said, not in a mocking tone but in a preaching tone. "Surely if you are tied with them you wouldn't spoil there name by doing such a thing as attacking innocent people who seem to just be traveling minding there own business. I understand the indirect contact as holding a sword to a suspicious person, but to lash out in anger isn't what I'd expect from the legends I've heard so much about. These do seem to be different times however and you both are quite young, so I'll just take it as you being inexperienced in how to deal with people." He rubbed his jaw. "Good punch by the way. Your swiftness and speed are noted to me. You threat however isn't. I've done nothing to threaten you and neither has my companion. So I think it only right to leave us be." He said.

In his mind, good people weren't targets. Even if he was to fight with a warden he wouldn't be able to go all out. He still can't control the most of his abilities. He did believe that they were as they say. How else would the man in front of him know he was a spirit warrior. He wore the attire of a regular one. Surly these people were experienced in battle.

Malyin sighed, and put her face in her hands. Helios was screwing it all up, and if he wasn't careful he would get them killed. She quickly slapped him in the face. "You IDIOT! You'll get us both killed!" She scowled at him and put her hands on her hips. She turned to the wardens, and made an apologetic face. "I'm sorry, both of you, he's being really STUPID." With that last word she turned to him and glowered again.

Malyin picked up her bag and her weapons, and said "Now fair wardens, I want to apologise again for that IDIOT'S behaviour. Can I go now? I want to find some merchants to see if they have the information I'm looking for." She glowered at Helios again. "And I won't be needing HIM but don't kill him please." She then crossed her arms and turned away from the idiot of a warrior she was stuck with.

Helios was having a good day. That is until he was threatened which he tried to blow over. Then he was punched. Minor setback. Being slapped however might have been the thing to ruin his day. He couldn't bare to yell at a lady though. He'd never seen his father yell at his mom and his uncle taught him to always compliment them and respect them. After being called an idiot he rubbed his stinging face and listened as the elf assassin spoke. Her words seemed true enough. He wouldn't mind fighting soulless beast but then again he didn't want to actually become part of the fad in which he traveled. He just let out a sigh.

He was however, relieved to know that the woman wasn't as juvenile as her counterpart. She was obviously in charge. His mom was in charge of his household so he knew that woman were good leaders. They kept everything clean and even though they reacted on emotions they had their reasons. He put his hands on Malyin's shoulder and said, "I forgive you my lady. I know your actions are just in their own light." He then turned to the other elves and stuck out his hand. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot. I am Helios Jiyani. I travel this land in search of work so I can feed my hungering stomach and sleep in a nice place once and a while. Most of all, I like helping people so I think we should be okay to each other. Maybe not friends but I prefer we not be enemies either. Good people shouldn't fight each other." He said with a smile. He had respect for these people. Even though they were a little rough he knew as wardens they want to help as much as he does. This world needs more people who want to help in anyway they can and less people who want to harm others. That's at least what he believed. "I believe I didn't quite catch your names." He said, waiting for a reply.

Malyin addressed the group, feeling ashamed for her actions, she had just been so stressed after the Korcari Wildes. "I'm sorry, I'm just stressed right now." She smiled at Helios, apologising with her facial expressions. "I'd like to reintroduce myself too. I'm Malyin N'Powut, and I'm a shapeshifter from the Brecilian Forest. I come here every few months to see if any merchants are gutsy enough to camp here. Usually the gutsy ones have more information, and I can't exactly travel to the capital seeing as it's a bit far away." Malyin apologetically smiled. "Once again I'm sorry for my rash actions."

Malyin picked up her bow and daggers and faced the wardens. "I think you are right Helios, we got off on the wrong foot. You wardens seem very nice, and I was hoping to know your names so as I might get back to my journey, and make peace with you." She looked at the strong figures before her, looking for any hints as to their reactions as to this previous awkward conversation. Saphira looked at them too, munching on a nut she'd brought.

The darkness had been a good cover for the Ex-crow as he maneuvered his way between the ranks of a scouting party of darkspawn, his daggers finding chinks in the armor of a few of the Hurlocks, while just completely beheading the three genlocks. "six darkspawn.." He mumbled to himself wiping blood from his face. and sheathing his daggers, drawing his bow and letting loose one quickly notched arrow into the base of the skull, of a retreating genlock. "Seven..." He said that with a smirk. Ryuu had been making his way through the wilds, on a quest of his own to help protect a small town just north of the wilds, needless to say one elf wasn't going to stem the entire tide of the horde, but at least it gave a few of the villagers some peace of mind knowing he was out here decimating scouting parties and the like.

He had currently wandered quite a ways south; having been tailing that scouting party for the better half of a day, having moved so far south that the only sign of anything that wasn't darkspawn were ruins of old towers and such, though he had spotted hound tracks, amongst other things, which in itself was a good sign that he wasn't alone out here with the darkspawn. "It's getting late.. those tracks are my best option to find a place to lay low for the remainder of the night.." He thought to himself out loud, as he jogged into the wilds following the tracks of hounds, and humans. He forced his way through the thick of the wilds, dodging camps of chasind and such; knowing the tracks weren't their's considering they weren't careless like this. It wasn't long before he moved out into a more open area; near a giant set of ruins, which he had heard about in taverns and such during his travels; Ostagar. Though he never truly paid attention to current events figuring he had played enough of his hand in causing the fall of kingdoms and such, to actual care about any possible offense against the darkspawn horde; it seemed that Fate had led him here; and regardless of his desires to not be here, it was obvious that his gut had led him after that scouting party.

"Alright, I suppose I can look around here, keep to the shadows, mind my own business and get out of things get way to dangerous for me." He thought to himself spotting the outlines of a couple of people near the entrance to the ruins. He made his way quietly towards them deciding if he was going to find out anything about the plan for the horde was, it would be to silently observe, without getting caught hopefully.
